Shell Recharge Comments & Reviews 2026

Great Experience!. I always wonder why people have negative reviews to where you’ll see like 1-2 stars, then those people who give 5 stars. Don’t know the answer. I’ve had a great experience with the app and the charging. No issues this far. Super inexpensive in my area. I also live in SoCal so that could be why it appears seamless. No issues with logging in, charging, or disconnecting.

Keeps signing me out. I have to use this app every day at work, and every couple of days I have to sign back in. There are many other reasons this is just a bad app, such as the error message I get nearly every time I start a charge saying there was an error (even though there wasn’t m), but the signing out bug is driving me crazy. The most frustrating part is that I know they don’t care at all about how awful the app is and will never fix it. It’s not like you have a choice whether or not to use this app if you need to use one of their chargers.

Shamefully bad, Shell. For as large of a company as Shell is, this should be a much better app. Get the RFID card if possible, it solves a lot of the app and charger screen issues. Chargers and app availability rarely sync, chargers are regularly out of order, customer service offers minimal on-site assistance, app notifications for charging don’t always push, and ultimately if this charger wasn’t closest to home (when it’s actually working) I wouldn’t use it and currently make every effort to charge elsewhere when I can.

Un-reliable. - The charging stations are offline , and stay so, for weeks with no maintenance. - The app logs you off often, and at the moment of writing, it has failed to login me in on multiple times. I called them and the response was that they were aware and working on it. It’s been a week. - Remote start charge fails often. I have tried to initiate charge from the app and it hasn’t worked in weeks. I even tried using other EV charging apps that work together with Shell Recharge, same thing. The initiating charge fails with errors. - when I asked them how people are supposed to charge, they told me to get an RFID card to be able to initiate charging without using the app. Problem is, you can only apply for the card if you are logged in, which I am unable to do. EV charging requires some level of reliability, this doesn’t have it. I can give it zero star, but hey they are trying.

Unreliable. Have shell recharge stations outside my office, which I thought was convenient...but only when the app works and only when the charging station is "online" - sometimes it says it's busy but no one is there. The other day I plugged in to charge and instead of charging, it drained 30 miles off my battery in less than 5 hours. Sometimes it looks like the charge started and then it will disconnect by itself and say error...or I won't even know it stopped charging and it will charge me a $5 fee for parking. That spot sits empty every day except when I want to charge so your "parking fee" is just a scam...but adds insult when I get charged because your app or your equipment is faulty.

Great updates and functionality. Love the function of being able to turn your phone’s flashlight on right from the app so you can easily read or scan the station information!

The stations are often broken, the Reps are, too. We have a few fast chargers in town. Three. They’re broken, at a minimum, 60% of the time. That’s charitable. More realistically they’re broken 70%, or maybe even 80% of the time. Sometimes they’re all broken at once, like they are, today. Sometimes calling in leads to a Representative who is capable. That’s a very good day when that happens! The few capable representatives that slipped through a hiring process one imagines meant to screen them out are able to restart the stations. Sometimes restarting works, most of the time, >50% of the time, restarting doesn’t work, yet sometimes it does! It’s a very great day when it works. Today was a typical day, though. The Representative didn’t understand anything, couldn’t comprehend numbers, didn’t know how many digits were in the station IDs, kept asking to try and transfer to someone else who could help, and placing the call on hold. After forty minutes the Representative asked if it wouldn’t be a bother to hang up, wait 20 more minutes, to call back in, as then maybe someone else could try and assist. This is run by Shell. Shell has an interest to make this experience as awful as possible. One wonders if they have tried hard to do so, or not at all. Either way, with effort, or without, the leadership of Shell, or whichever underpaid peons they assigned this task to have succeeded in releasing a service as awful as the petrochemicals they so callously pollute this planet with

Shell working with the Hawaiian government to provide electric cars, no conflict of interest here.. I regret to share my disappointing experience with the Shell Recharge app, particularly in the context of Shell Gas Company’s collaboration with the Hawaiian government to provide charging infrastructure for electric cars. Firstly, the charging stations associated with the app have proven to be consistently unreliable. On numerous occasions throughout the week, I have encountered instances where the chargers were either down or malfunctioning, leading to frustrating delays and inconveniences. This unreliability undermines the very essence of a service designed to support electric vehicle users. Furthermore, the concern arises when considering the collaboration between Shell Gas Company and the Hawaiian government. While the intention to support electric vehicles is commendable, the apparent conflict of interest raises questions about the neutrality and fairness of the service. It seems counterintuitive for a gas company to be involved in promoting electric vehicle charging, potentially impacting the credibility and transparency of the entire initiative. The Shell Recharge app, unfortunately, has failed to live up to expectations, and the broader implications of a gas company’s involvement in promoting electric vehicle charging are unsettling. I hope these issues can be addressed promptly to ensure a more reliable and impartial service for electric vehicle users in Hawaii.

So far so good. This one just got installed and turned on a few months ago. So far, no problems whatsoever- oh, it did go down once for an hour but that’s it. It’s just around the corner from my apartment building so it’s changed my life for the better- very much so!

Only First Time, but Effortless. While planning a trip, I needed an alternative to my “usual” EA station, and I found a Shell Recharge facility not far away. Downloaded the App, and I was charging in about three minutes, and receiving 170kw..can’t ask for much more ✌️David

Less than one star. It’s ridiculous that I can’t just pay at the WV charger and that I am forced to get this awful app. To add insult to injury is that you must prepay in $10 increments. Why can’t I just pay for what I use? Likely because they just want to overcharge. I can’t wait for my car to finish charging so I can take this terrible app off my phone. Btw the app isn’t any better than the service. It’s stuck saying my car isn’t charging even though i see that it is.

What other option do you have?. I’ve had to call shell directly as many times if not more than this app actually did its job. At least half those times, it didn’t work anyway. The charging stations are poorly maintained and it’ll eat your money for no reason. It makes you wonder how a multi-billion dollar company can enter a new phase of an industry in which they’ve had decades of experience, full of nothing but some of the smartest people making it, then managing to flunk it up so wonderfully. There are no excuses for such a ubiquitous app to be so bad. But if you have an electric car, what other options are there? None.

In a word…SUCKS!. There are no words in the English language to describe the crappiness of this entire network. I’ve had an account with this company for the last four years. Out of maybe 50 attempts to charge, possibly 25 have been successful. In the last two months I have probably a 90% failure rate trying to charge. When I call it in, they are very friendly and try to help, but, they say they can’t fix it because it shows busy on their end. I wish I could express somehow just how much I hate this entire system so that I could at least get it off my chest to feel better!

Simply put - it doesn’t work.. I can count on one hand how many successful charges I’ve had using this app, and even that came with the struggle of having to uninstall and reinstall it. I’ve contacted customer service in every way possible, submitted feedback/reported issues through the app, signed out and in, etc. and it still never works consistently. Currently waiting on my balance refund so I can delete my account and the app for good.

Moronically bad. Let alone the poor usability of the app (in 2022!), the system is just … broken. Follow the prompts on the console? Well no, that just leads to frustration: plug in, then use the app to pay. Download the app, finally set it up, then: charger is offline - except the console shows the opposite, and has locked the hose to the car. Manage to reboot the console (secure! gives one great confidence, no?), unlock the hose and remove it. Go to app, select the location (again), but oh, there’s no payment. Mind you, no option to enter payment, you need to go to settings and find it, and then enter completely manually. No option to use apple or Google pay or Paypal - and with the crappy security in the app, I don’t feel any confidence that my credit card details are safe. Go and search for the charging station again (because why would the app remember this, after all, it was the previous action…), select the location and put through payment. Nothing shows on the app. Plug the hose in anyway. Restart the app, search again blah blah blah, retry and your payment is in there. Try to initiate charging, can’t do it. Start the whole fricken process from scratch, and finally you can start charging. 12 minutes. 12 MINUTES. That’s how long it took. Using Chargepoint or any of the others, even including app download and setup, you’re charging within 5 (max).

Something went sideways. I use this app when I started working with EV‘s and everything seem to work fine I will go to my nearby charging stations load up my Shell Recharge charge the car and go on with my day as a recent the recharge would fail and shall put a $60 hold on my account I tried multiple times at the same location on the same day and at separate stations and all that would happen is shell would hold $60 on my account but I would never get a charge. What’s worse is they would hold that $60 for over a week when the typical credit card hold is only two to three days. I have stopped using the app and I have avoided the troubled charging stations as they also fail with the direct app as well so it’s probably an issue with EVgo, but I moved onto Electrify America which isn’t part of this app. This app is supposed to be an aggregation app, but I strongly discouraged the use of this app until they improve on their API performance getting the interconnectivity between all the different partners.

Basic functions is there. All others not very good. When you put it on a charger and activate - fast and works well. The monitoring of how much charge you got lags and it’s a 50-50 when it actually does work. This could be 5 stars if it fixes the small issues. Maybe line 3-5 more updates to perfect this. Let’s work them fingers and fix them bugs guys. Yall could do it! Update: I used to use the app to connect 3 times a week for the past 2 months, no issues. The day after I write this review the remote start charging stopped working. I’m sorry. Please make the app work again! 5 stars!

She’ll Recharge is no Greenlots. Ever since Shell purchased Greenlots they have taken the charging experience to new lows. Their apps is always have network issues, the chargers are down exponentially more. Hate to say this but we need a government non-profit entity to operate these charging stations. Shell is just after the money and will be a horrible steward of such a vital infra structure such as the electric charging stations. They want electric to fail so they can continue with the old system. Wish the government would take over the charging system in the future, these companies in the fossil fuel realm will not change.

Buggy App Great Charge. Overall the app is a little buggy with respect to app navigation and the app overall UX could be better but the overall experience was good. The charging station connected to the car and started charging immediately after commencing charge from the app.

Unreliable. I stopped at a location that showed up as “active” on the map, but when I pulled up and plugged my car in it kept showing a “failed charged attempt”. I called the customer service number on the machine, the lady helping me was very sweet, and after multiple attempts it still wouldn’t work. She said that there must be a connectivity issue or the terminal isn’t working… Well, then don’t mark it as active?! Luckily, I was still at 50% but the freezing weather will eat that battery life up in a pinch. Thankfully, I found a ChargePoint station 20 minutes away. They never fail to accept a charge at their stations and will continue to get my support. Please fix you bum machine before someone is seriously stranded at one of your terminals and all they will from your support line is a “I’m sorry - I can’t help you… Have a great day!”. Unbelievable.

Great when it works, but too frequently inaccurate. When chargers on the map reflect their actual statuses the app is great and makes charging easy and convenient. It is my go-to for public charging. If there is a charger by another company but it’s available through Shell, I opt to use it through Shell. Sometimes though, the app will decline remote starts or show a charger is offline or busy when it is actually functional and/or available. Sometimes it fixes in seconds by closing and reopening the app, but sometimes I’ve had to log out and log back in to be able to start a charge at all. Most of the time it works, but the former has happened frequently enough that it has somewhat impacted my life experience using it. Also, the $60 credit card hold is excessive. You’ll never use that much at a charger without blowing up your battery. Mine charges 0-100 for about twelve bucks typically.

Unable to Start a Session Using App. The App seems to function correctly on my phone, however every time I have wanted to start a charging session it has failed to start and I had to swipe a credit card to begin. This leads to no data being saved in the app as to how much energy was delivered or what the cost was per kWh. Very frustrating to use this app to remotely start the unit and keep track of usage.

Is it bad on purpose?. One gets the feeling that Shell resents putting these stations up to begin with which is why the app and the network fail most of the time. I couldn’t do anything on this app. I signed successfully maybe one time total, but had to call to register my CC and remote charge. Beware though as their phone support stops after 7p central on weekends! Plan your trips around avoiding Shell Recharge whenever possible.

My advice is: don’t trust them.. Their service is lousy. Stations are listed as in operation, but when you get there, it turns out there’s a problem. Customer service is useless - they’ve sent me to stations that are NOT open to the public more than once. This company is not trustworthy.

Great experience. I just charged on one of their chargers and it was a great experience. I had almost 50 kW the entire time as advertised and the app worked perfectly. I look forward to continuing using this charger regularly.

DOES NOT WORK IN FRANCE. I would leave a 0-star review if I could. We were encouraged to use this app by Hertz after picking up an electric rental car in Paris. The app REFUSED to locate me throughout our trip in the French countryside. It would only pull up results for England and would not allow me to manually enter the desired destination - would only show an error message and ask me to refresh. I tried for hours at various locations to no avail. Additionally, we ended up going through the Shell Recharge website to find a location and were consistently led to machines that did not work, were out of service, or refused to take the Shell Recharge RFID fob despite being listed as in working order on their website. I have never left a review for an app before but this extremely frustrating experience has left me incensed. If encouraged by your rental company to use them app, I would use extreme caution as the majority of their data appears to be bogus. 0/10, would not recommend.

Errors. I have not gone one time without having an issue with this app. Takes forever to load, then when it does there’s always an error with something and I waste so much time waiting for it to stop acting up. I added money to the wallet so it would stop charging me $60 everytime I charged for like $2. And everytime it still says there’s an error with my payment. I call customer service and sit on hold for 15+ minutes until I give up and after refreshing the app and waiting it’ll work after numerous tries.

Do not install these at your school or institution. This company should not be in the EV business. Their chargers and this app do not work most if the time.I had my car plugged in for 3 1/2 hours today and actually lost 2 miles. It did not charge. It shut off after two minutes with no explanation or alert. I really really hate them. There’s no way to contact them if you have a problem. If shell/ greenlots wants to install chargers at your school, please reject them and go with a better company whose equipment actually works like ChargePoint or Sima. If you ever have a problem at a ChargePoint station you call them and a human actually answers the phone and helps you. With shell there is no way to contact them and if you send them an email it’s just going to trash. No one will ever reply you. I don’t think there is an actual human working in this company anywhere.

The worst charging network. I live in a condo building that happens to have a Shell Recharge station. The station hardware seems to be fine for the most part but it is frequently unusable because the software is so bad. Frequent outages mean when I go to plug in my car its a coin toss whether the app will work or whether it will give me a generic error like “error, something isn’t working” and not charge my car. When I call the support staff they are never aware of any problems even though there’s clearly some kind of outage preventing iOS users or all users in general from using the app. Sometimes the phone rep can start the charge remotely after waiting on hold for 30 minutes and other times they can’t. Sometimes the charge rep says they have no idea anything is broken then it mysteriously starts working while I’m on the phone (meaning something is probably getting rebooted on Shell’s side without the rep telling me the details). Overall inconsistent service means you never know when you can charge your car. I wish we had ChargePoint instead.

Decent App. I use it at one charge station only so far. Works OK 50% of the time. It’s hit and miss if you have to enter your credentials. If it’s baking or raining it is very frystrating. I would like to see face recognition. I’ve also experienced that you get the confirmation that charging has started, but when you get to the vehicle, it hadn’t been charged.

Awful in every way. Shame on Shell. Got to the charging station. Saw that it had changed from ChargePoint to Shell Know what’s good for your sodium. Downloaded the app. Everything went downhill from there. Could not charge my car. Tried support. First they hung up on me. Second time the man said oh that charging station isn’t working. but there’s no indication on the charging station that it’s completely broken but rather it just says it doesn’t know what state it’s in. Overall wasted a half hour of my life. Didn’t charge my car. Have absolutely no use for this awful app. The developers and staff should be ashamed of themselves.

Really, really terrible. The app and the charging station instructions are amazingly bad. The instructions seem to be written by engineers for people who know exactly how to use the system; they should be clearer and more appropriate for people who have never seen the system before. The app is horrid. The signup is clunky, it requires a minimum of $10, the balance of which is locked up, so if you only need to use it once (as in a car rental) you can miss that money goodbye — Shell has stolen your money. Further, if a transaction fails or is interrupted, the app will charge another $10 to restart. Icing on the cake: after my charge-up, I was unable to login to the app again, and the “forgot password” process never sent me a password reset email, so now I can r use the app again. For all the money Shell makes you think they could afford an app that works.

Unreliable service. The CCS charger in Elk Grove did not work even after multiple attempts even though it showed on the app as available. As we were traveling at the time, this caused us to be stranded and added a couple hours to our journey home as we had to look for another charger which was inconvenient for us as there were none nearby. Would give 0/5 stars if possible, would stay away at all costs!!

$60 hold after loading $10 prepaid, $2 charge. I downloaded and used this while on a „ road trip. USE ANY OTHER CHARGING COMPANY IF POSSIBLE. We use 3-4 of the common charging companies when traveling longer distances, and all apps have been pain-free after setup. You will have to pre-pay a minimum $10. They will also put a $60 hold on your credit card. Then they will have a charger that is slower than competitors so you give up after $2 worth of charging. Just go to any other charger, I would have driven further off the highway to not bother with this app if I knew it was such a mess.

Price. I first would like to mention that taking $60 as a hold fee is way too much money. Then it takes way too long for that money to return to my account. If it were to take out $20, then I will understand, however taking a lot of money out of somebody’s account and taking very long time to put it back into their account, it’s not the way to go. Also, I don’t know why but sometimes when it shows that a charger station is nearby, then you go to the charger station and it’s not there. I have noticed that quite a few is on the map and is no longer there or it’s not working, I think Shell needs to reconsider their whole operation system because you can’t charge people a lot of money in not show them the correct station on the map. If I had option to give out zero stars, then I would.

App filter broken. I have adjusted the map filters to only show CCS charging stations. However, the map doesn’t filter out anything (a spinning wheel shows up in the top right but nothing happens) and still shows all of the L2 stations which isn’t helpful when I’m on a road trip. The filter toggles also reset every time I close and open the app which isn’t ideal.

Terrible service, app okay. Despite network, app and stations promising and claiming 24 hr support, this is completely false. Instead you only have CS reps who can’t do anything more than remotely restarting stations, and giving absurd terrible advice like calling tow trucks via electric car roadside assistance! Electric car got held hostage by a bad faulty station that did not release current to allow the lock to disengage; since it was just after business hours on a Friday, repeated calls were useless since they could not get an actual technician to respond and they talked about waiting until Monday! Only after telling them that the broken trickle charge could trigger a battery explosion if left for that many days did finally someone get dispatched— though they didn’t even know nor had contact with the person since they claimed it was only going to be fixed hours later at the end of day but traveling back to my abandoned car showed someone did reset and manually shut down the power sometime earlier after I reached out to Seattle City Light directly (which Greenlots refused to provide). Complained to Seattle City Light about this experience and Greenlots lies already.

Works great!. Other than requiring a credit card and a $10 balance to use the app (charges for paid stations) it works great for me. I normally just use a free one near my grocery store. I can see how much my car charges and can go when my time is up.

Works fine in the limited use I have for it. New to electric vehicles and charging. The app has worked fine for me in the few weeks I’ve been using it. I have NOT been searching for locations, just charging at a known bank of them. March of 23, no issues here. (SF Bay Area)

Reliably unreliable. The app is horrible. I am constantly being asked to log in. The app takes a few minutes to update and even then is not accurate. The one CCS adapter in my area is down constantly. This latest one has been down for over a week with the same error. I have reported it in app and I called there support line 5 times. First 4 times the hold message was someone talking in the background. The last time the person was very nice but unable to help with the station.

App always have network issues. The app always have network issues. Most of the time it doesn’t show accurate status of the charging stations. There are times it would show a station free on the map even though I’ve been using the station. Not much useful function in the app. Wish they could incorporate how many minutes the station will be free till the next user have to wait for the next station. Especially here in Hawaii there’s only a handful of EV stations.

Worst charging app. Do your research. If it takes Shell Recharge find another station. Went to a charging station with 4 chargers. While there attempting unsuccessfully for 1/2 hour to start a charge 4 other people came and went. None of the stations would take Apple Pay or a physical card so a fellow EVer said he could only get it to work with this, the Shell Charge App. It took multiple tries and failures but until someone downloaded the App anew we couldn’t charge. A frustrating experience. Unfortunately if you are using PlugShare the only way you can see if it requires Shell Charge is by scrolling to payment and reading the details of who is collecting . I hope never to have to use app again and my companion is completely turned off about getting an EV.

DO NOT GET THIS APP!. Horrible! Rate this a -5 if possible. This app has NEVER worked for charging here in Hawaii. When I call the number on the station they are no help whatsoever; they have to connect you with tech support who is never available but they “will call you back as soon as possible”. Guess what?? Never got a call back after at least 8-10 calls to them. Never. Unfortunately they are the only level 3 listed BUT are also listed as “Hawaiian Electric Company”. I am going to call Hawaiian Electric Company tomorrow and inform them of these issues. Hopefully they can get a contract with someone else. DO NOT get this app!! They do not care

Meh. I only use Greenlots to charge for free for an hour a week at one location, but if it wasn’t free I wouldn’t use it at all. ChargePoint is much easier and user friendly. For instance, ChargePoint sends RFID cards for free - GreenLots charges $5. ChargePoint also allows use of wallet card on iOS to quickly tap to charge. Greenlots you have to go through the cumbersome app or pay $5 for an RFID.

Steep learning curve. Glad it exists. Wish it didn’t need the app.. Steep learning curve, frustrating to use at the beginning but it gets easy afterwards. Sometimes the chargers are down where I live, but they generally get fixed in a reasonable amount of time. I like the free level 2 charging these stations provide.

Not working as well anymore. I’ve had to lower my rating to 2 Stars. Otherwise the app without great in regards to its basic functions such as remote starting the chargers and monitoring them. One main problem is the app’s convenience when it comes to signing in. It also signs out way too often… More often than would be considered necessary for a security precaution. In fact, it signs out in the middle of doing basic functions. They have no way to automatically sign in security features on the phone you have to type out every time to sign in. It also has trouble with the Internet connection and you cannot locate stations to start a charge or to check in on your current charge. Since this is also usually the discount service through power, companies, and other. Charging options options as far as amounts, and the ability to vary the amount of the dollar amount you want to upload. I understand having a which of the $5 not $10. But only allowing increments of 10 causes more problems. Most of the other features were great. And if they would resolve some of the most annoying errors. The app should have a five star rating. But my guess is she always more interested in making an acquisition and providing a functional app.

It’s good when I get the right charger. Cons: There’s two things that bug me about these chargers. They are on the front row of a big cinemark movie theatre and ppl that don’t even drive EV’s park there. The second thing is it’s a gamble for which charger is working that day and you just pray you get a good one or can switch. Pros: It’s free!!! If you go at random times when the theatre isn’t busy you can normally find a charger You can also check the app to see if someone’s using it. Even tho there’s only two. I really appreciate it. I really like how chill the token people are about me just sitting in the foyer area and doing work until my car is charged. That’s Awesome! Thank you Shell Recharge and Cinemark for making this possible.

Rarely Works!. This app has worked only ONCE in 8 charges. I have to call customer service each time to get the charge started. And now it won’t even allow me to add funds to my account with a perfectly good credit card, which I’ve used on this app previously. It gets better- the help line for this issue is open M-F 9-5 ONLY. This app is worse than useless- it sets you up to be stranded without a charge.

Build a better app. This is the worst app I’ve ever used. Can’t remember my subscriptions so it charges me, won’t remember card info so I have to fill it out all the time, can’t remember my login so it’ll kick me out sometimes, doesn’t update to show how much charge my car has gotten, won’t tell me if a charge has initiated or failed; I could go on but I think Shell is intentionally making electric car charging difficult to stall widespread adoption.

Total waste of time. Shell is a perfect example of a poorly designed system. An out of the way station. No signage for the chargers. Had to hunt around the station to find them. Practically no instruction at the charger. Entered the data for two different credit cards which are current and valid. App reported an error with both when trying to initiate charge. Bottom line is Shell took our money but did not provide the service. Not hard to imagine a gas company trying to dissuade the use of EVs. This is to be avoided at all costs if you value your time and sanity.

Unable to load balance after update. Unable to load balance after recent update, need to call customer support to activate charger every time. Issue exists across all shell recharge accounts/users. Ridiculous. Why should we even need to use an app in the first place? I should be able to tap/activate the machine with a debit card the same as if I’m filling air in my tires. No instead I have to call and wait on hold for somebody to remotely activate the station. No excuse for such a large and established organization to screw this up this hard

Absolutely useless. The app is pretty bad. The app doesn’t reflect the actual stations. I have been avoiding a close by station for the longest time before this app said it was offline. Guess what it was completely inaccurate. Loading the app every single time it takes 30-60 to load the map and starts at the zoomed out view of North America. Why? It tries also to load “offline data” every single time I open the app and go to the map. If this was actually true it would have cached the data for offline mode the first time I loaded it.

Please allow plug and charge like Tesla app. I don’t want to reload wallets I don’t even want to open your app or use some I don’t want to use some 1990s looking screen on your ugly chargers I want simplicity and for my charging experience to be as quick as plugging in and leaving. Please just direct bill my cc ; no more reload or auto reloads. I will pay what i use - this isn’t Starbucks

Billing only in US dollars. Since the app was redesigned payment only show US dollars. This is NOT helpful in Canada.

$15 for a card. The app worked fine for me so it gets an extra star for that but Shell’s prices are awful. On top of charging you 50c per kWh to use their CHAdeMO stations (already outrageous when most of BC Hydro’s are free) they won’t add anything to your balance you buy the $15 card, unlike BC Hydro’s app which will add the $10 you pay and ChargePoint which will give you your first card for free.

Impossible to use. Reset my password 4 times now. It lets me log in fine on web but not on the app. The phone number provided to ask for help doesn’t work. When setting up a new password, you can’t use a password manager as it doesn’t allow you to paste when confirming your password so you can’t use one that’s extremely secure. It’s almost like Shell want to make it as frustrating as possible to use an EV! Complete waste of time and unusable

Broken. Just broken.. - Lost password functionality doesn’t work. Email never arrives, not even in spam folder. Thankfully I managed to remember it. - Can’t process payment. I’ve tried multiple cards. I’ve tried every possible configuration of the card data - it seems to accept it but then never lets me load a balance to the app saying payment details refused every....single....time. It’s a good thing the card reader at least works on the unit I charge at regularly, but the app is hopeless.

App blanked. Just download your latest 3.2.5 version and app gone blank. Come on.

Buggy and very expensive for 50kw. Buggy and very expensive for 50kw

Epic fail. The app doesn’t sync with the car or the terminal, forget about tapping credit card although it gives u the choice, nothing works!

Rarely works. The chargers are plagued with connectivity issues.

Rate the app not the charger infrastructure. Overall the app works well. My complaint is that the chargers can be spotty.

Terrible. Just an awful app. Wouldn’t work properly with the charging station. Doesn’t allow for Canadian postal codes when signing up. Crashes or times out. Fails every time I try to stop the charge unless I manually pull the plug out. Incredible frustrating and takes forever.

Useless app, broken machines. Was forced to use a shell charge station instead of an Electrify America and the difference in quality is clear. Nothing about the app works, charged my wallet, and the app just glitches out, and so does the machines. Spent an hour trying to get a hold of customer support. If you can try avoiding charging with shell then please do until they actually take their app tech more seriously.

Unreliable App. Keeps crashing. Doesn’t allow Canadian input for zip code information

Not getting any better. I had hoped that this app would improve after Shell bought the company, but it is still terrible. I have reported the same bug in many versions over the past nine months and they have still not fixed it. You would think it would be simple to verify that distances are calculated correctly, but there must be zero quality control and zero bug tracking by whoever manages development of this disaster.

Worst charging experience. Shell is laying to the customer showing 180 kWh and charging 50 kWh or sometime 65 kWh After 80% it’s slowing down and take more time to get more money from customers

Solution. I needed to download this app the charge in Vernon. After reading reviews I was a bit nervous. Upon initial setup I had to enter a fake Zipcode, and then register for Canada. App opened up fine. Once the app was open, I went into settings and edited my profile. There it allows you to enter your entire address, along with a Postal Code. So far, so good! I hope this helps.

Shell ain’t worth it. As an Uber driver I already have 2 apps. Why would I want both shell and the daily one added to my phone screen? Anyways, this morning I drove to 4750 Kingsway. Know what I find? A giant ugly mall that been under construction for 10 yrs. NO SHELL PLUG IN!! No signs, maps. I take a right on Willingdon and drive to Tesla supercharger at Brentwood. Uber Canada tries hard, but they pick the wrong partners; FLO, GM, SHELL. Should’ve went with ChargePoint & Tesla. I went Boundary and Marine Dr in Vancouver because my car was at 3km left. They have installed these giant sized charging plugs. They’re super heavy, ugly and both sizes DO NOT FIT THE TESLA ADAPTER. When Big Oil greenwashing this is the result. Who wants to wait four hours at a level 2 charging station? She’ll sucks

$11.40 / hour. Don’t waste your time with the station in Midhurst (county of simcoe museum)

Absolute trash. After spending more then 15min setting up login information and payment details for a free charging station, the only information offered was request rejected.

Pretty reliable and informative. I must have a dozen apps for high speed charging including bc hydro and a bunch for us states. The shell app connects reliably and gives correct charging info, which is not a lot to expect but sadly many of the apps don’t. Charged with 21kW through a Tesla Chademo adapter.

Finally!. Finally optimized for iPhone X screen sizes! It’s long overdue, but happy it’s here. Now the app deserves 5 stars

Zip code for Canada???. I can’t even sign up for this app because every time I enter in my country as Canada, it still only asks for a ZIP CODE and doesn’t allow me to enter anything but NUMBERS! PLEASE FIX THIS!! I’d kind of like to be able to charge my car!! This is for the iPhone version.

Charging info. App doesn’t show what’s going on while charging. Zeros across the board. Power: 0 energy added: 0 charge time: p

In Canada call the support number. They will set up an account for you over the phone as it asks for a zip code

Never work! I rented a car in Barcelona spoiled vacation. It spoiled my vacation, it never work, can not show shell charge stations. It is a s scam. I saw Tesla charging

Can’t use this app in Europe. Renting a car in Europe. The rental company recommends to use Shell recharge app to recharge car. This version of the app is just good for North America!

Total piece of crap. Why even bother launching an app that doesn't work?

Shell is not trustworthy but seems corrupt. Shell bought this company to try to remain relevant but their past has shown that they support corruption in governments around the world and supported apartheid. This app does not function well either and takes several minutes to start a charge if you can get one.

Worked great. Arrived at a charger, had the app installed and charging my car within 3 minutes. The 150kW charger actually delivered 150kW too, so that’s a nice bonus.

Application not working in Germany. Needed the application in Germany for a rental car. The application didn’t work for Europe at the time of downloading. Add to use google map to find the chargers…

Aweful Experience. App is useless and doesn’t load 99% of the time. Use flow app instead but even then their chargers are often not responding and outrageously expensive.

Not working. Apps faulty, not working. Also reading the other reviews, I’d not dare to charge here :)

Stuck processing. Last two attempts the app was stuck “processing “ as I tried to start a charger. Needs to respond faster than many minutes. Good 5g network connection both times.

Useless in Europe. This App is useless in Europe. Impossible to find recharge location.

Terrible app, website and system. Multiple days and attempts at trying to sign up have resulted in no account or registration. I spoke on the phone with a rep and even she couldn’t help. Could not enter my Canadian postal code in the app. Too USA centred. Terrible customer support. How have they stayed in business and I hope She’ll oil didn’t pay more than $150 for this outfit. What a complete waste of my time.

Bad bad bad …. Charged twice for 60 dollars when set up account .. how is it possible? I need my money back !

Faulty app. It seems like those third party Flimsy cab companies app seems like some university student designed it, it doesn’t work don’t waste your time

What the f download speed. I wait like 10 minutes now

Does not work. Can’t log in. Keep resetting password and getting error messages.

Can’t be used outside America. This app only tells you American charging stations. If you are travelling abroad it’s a different app that is region locked. This doesn’t help if your hiring an EV any where else in the world. The only way to find the complete list of EV charges is via the web page. Hope this help any one else wonder what this issue is. Shell you need to focus on showing all charging stations and making this global.

Not working. Just put numbers on the station. Its a basic thing.

Ouch. Headache to use

Canadians blocked??. Even when I indicated I am in Canada, there was no postal code option and it won’t proceed without a zip code. How do I use this app in Canada? There must be a way since I’m in Canada and there’s a Greenlots charge station.

shell has the Worst EV Charging Stations ever !!!!. Constantly disconnects for no reason and charges you a $2.50 connection fee. To get a full charge it has disconnected up to 3 times per charge and that is $5.00 + tax extra I am paying every single time, basically rips you off. I have had this Shell app take $60 out of my bank account unauthorized and had to have my bank dispute and investigate. Steer clear of Shell Charging EV stations they are the absolute worst I have ever dealt with

AMA Charging station. Thanks AMA. Worked perfectly.

“GREENlots” logo Red. Wait, Wut?!. So, we all know the app has no QC team, but is it so bad that no one noticed that red might not be a great choice for a company with “green” in the title?!?!

👉 Are you looking for an Adsense alternative advertising platform?

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

Poor software quality. The app isn’t great. The chargers are worse. One near us is perpetually broken. Customer support rebooted it to see if that’d help. The reboot revealed the unit running an ancient version of Windows 7 Embedded, an operating system that went end of life at the start of 2020. She’ll needs to step up its work if it wants to participate in the EV charging space.

Doesn’t work, use other charging service. Made me sign up with my personal info, only for it to not even work properly at the station of my choosing. I want to delete my account, but it won’t even let me do that and the website’s guide on how to delete account is invalid. If you can help it, charge elsewhere…

Login unsuccessful or session expired. Waited over 10 minutes on the phone and no answer. Very upset with the app for I was attempting to charge at a charging station mid trip. After 30 minutes trying to figure it out for the first time, I was not able to charge due to “session time out” or unable to login due to invalid login, reset password 2 times and reloaded with $25. Wasted time and money.

App wouldn’t accept credit card -couldn’t start charging session. Very frustrating to arrive at my hotel only to struggle with the app and customer service for 30 min because the app wouldn’t allow a payment method to be entered. I bailed and went to a supercharger 12 miles away. What’s the point of having chargers at a hotel if the app is problematic?

Whoever programmed this app should be shot.. Every single time I pick up this app, which I have to use to start 1 of 5 fast charge stations available to me (usually 3 of which are not working at any given time), it has to update, which takes up to several minutes. I’m often at station before the app has updated to show me if it’s working or not. How can you do something so badly???

Worst app I have used. $10 minimum to load. Doesn’t take apple pay. Doesn’t scan credit card. I was hoping for a quick top off while I was away from home. Instead I spend 7 minutes on a horrible experience. Go slam your arm in your car door, it will be a better overall experience.

Slow and doesn’t work well. The app is very slow and it doesn’t work well. Trying to report an issue with a station just leads to an internal server error, which is fitting. The stations aren’t up front with the cost, and can be ridiculously expensive, like $1/kWh. You don’t find this out till after the fact.

Service + App is so bad. The fact it is 2024 and this app does not support Apple Wallet in app card selection is gross. Literally made it so difficult to use station because ofcourse my card issuer rejects random charge everytime I go to use debit. Plus if a charge per KWH is $.16 in my area WHY would i possibly want to upload my money to this app by increments of $10?!Let me choose how much to upload.

The worst, so bad it must be on purpose. Not only is the app terrible, and demands unnecessary personal information, it’s tied to pumps that don’t work. You have to give them money first to use their system then the system didn’t work so I will be paying shell to never use their system again.

Worse than Volta app (Apple Pay). Since volta is part of your company and they have same app layout, only one thing is missing as payment option is Apple Pay is missing. I dk not want to add credit cards info, i just want through Apple Pay.

Network Issues. The app is fine but the network for starting the stations is really bad! I can never get a station to start. I’m thankful Electrify America is everywhere once I leave my town, otherwise I would be in a real jam. I had to order the RFID tag for Shell. I really hope it works. I don’t always need local superchargers but it would be nice if they worked when I do.

Unbearable. Standing outdoors trying to charge a car and creating an account here is so hard. It takes hours, fill out the full billing address, name, answer useless questions, enter a credit card by hand digit by digit… the time it takes to get setup makes it not worth to charge a car. A tesla supercharger would have charged a tesla in the time it takes to sign up in this app.

Don’t add a lot of money!. For a big company like Shell, this app is terrible. It has only worked for me once in 6 months and doesn’t link up to the chargers to allow you to charge even though I have plenty of funds in my account. Don’t make the same mistake as me—you’ll never be able to use them!

Uninstall this app.. Do not install this app. We went to a charger once and used this app to pay. It said the payment failed. It should have cost about 25 cents. Instead, the app won’t let me do anything, it just keeps bringing up the charging session that failed over and over and over. Checking my card this morning, it charged me $60 to charge. For 1.7kWh.

Absolute worst company I’ve worked with.. Their website listed a station that was undergoing servicing as available which led to me needing to get a tow. When costumer service was made aware of my situation they offered me 5 dollars for my trouble… which actually never appeared in my account. This company is horrendous and my entire family and friends will now not ever be using shell in the future.

Incredibly expensive charging network. Have to buy in $10 increments. Bought $10, said card declined. Tried again, worked, but the declined charge also went through. Steep charging fees and god forbid you leave your car idle there when it’s done charging. $6/hr, despite all the other stations being open for use.

Maui Hawaii charging stations. For over 2 years I have had continuous problems with the station by Bank of Hawaii in Pukalani. The APP doesn’t work. I always end up calling in and it takes customer service at least 15 minutes just to remotely turn on the charging station. I have the same negative experience at there other locations.

Unnecessary. Not sure why Shell needs as much of my information as possible and to store my own money in a wallet just to use a free charger. Even then, the app is telling me down to the second how long I’ve been charging, but it shows that I’m charging at 0 kW (I’m actually charging, but I have no idea how fast). Poor customer experience and poorly executed.

Inexcusably bad. You’d think for a system that fails more than it actually works the dev team would put some decent error messages in. Feels like 4/5 times I use this app to charge my car here in Seattle I get some obtuse failure message along the lines of “did not work”. Why not? Probably because this app is inexcusably poor quality.

Renting car from Europcar, app doesn’t work in Europe. Shell Recharge is supposed to be the official charging partner of Europcar, but the app doesn’t work in Europe. No charge points are displayed on the map. I downloaded the app via the link from the Europcar site, but it doesn’t work. Doesn’t make sense… Maybe Shell created different versions of the app for different countries. If that’s the case, then that makes no sense. Doesn’t shell know that the dominant use case for renting cars is travel? And for EV rentals to work for customers, they need to support the travel use case? Lots of mistakes happening here.

don't bother. I was forced to download this app ( not easy to use) in order to use the only charge station - theirs-I could locate near where I was. They force you to add money (minimum $10) to the app. The charge station I used was SO slow it was a waste of time. I gave up after spending .85 cents and no way to get the additional money back. I would recommend avoiding these charge stations and this app

Too difficult to setup or use. I tried using this app three times, it would let me paste my card information into the payment section, I was forced to type it in since I don’t carry the physical cards I wanted to use. The machine I did use was outdated and a generic drop in. I was asked to input the station number it was attached to. It was the only station that system supported. Directly paying with a different card was much easier than using the app. So what’s the point of the app. I’m now using a different app to find charging stations and am one pointless app lighter on my phone.

New app is fast and responsive. The new app not only looks better but is fast and responsive. Love the new map view.

Straight garbage. Even if you do manage to find a charging station that isn’t stuck in busy or faulted status half the time the app just gives you a random error - if you call customer care usually they can’t even remotely start the charging station and they put in a ticket that usually takes 3-4 weeks to be addressed - straight garbage

Zero stars, terrible chargers. The App almost never works. Very buggy, crashes all the time. The almost chargers never work. If the app works the charger doesn’t. If the charger works the app doesn’t but there is no local bypass so you are still out of luck. Not something you can rely on, which is terrible in a product you have to rely on. Customer service is rude and doesn’t care.

Can’t add payment. Junk.. First time user of the app, with an EV for a few days. Can’t pay directly at the station? No worries, I’ll get the app. Can’t add to the wallet via Apple Pay? Frustrating but sure. So I go to add a credit card, enter the info, and get stuck because THERES NO BUTTON TO PUSH PAYMENT INFO FORWARD. literally a dead end on the app. Product management 101. Moronic stuff.

Charger doesn’t even work. I’m low on battery and the charger doesn’t even work this is crazy I’ve never experienced this now I have to wait for a refund please don’t use these charging stations I called and he did nothing for me why do you have chargers if they don’t even work what do I do now tow my car?

App has gotten worse over time. Updates are very rare, and the most recent one actually caused a whole host of issues. From map stability to not recognizing completed charging sessions, this is barely functional. I have the choice to use this charger or another company within the same half-mile of each other and I just can’t count on this one to be reliable.

Frustrating login and payment. I created a login this morning. Apparently it forgot that existed. I created another one and added my payment. The app makes you think you have to put credits on your account but apparently it can charge your card directly. Finally the app didn’t update at all during the charging process. In fact it logged me out instead!

Great when it works. At least 20% of the time the fast charger simply won’t connect. There’s some kind of error. I have never had any problem with the slow chargers, though

Responsive. The app is quick to start and stop charging.

Constantly not working. The app is very hit or miss when it comes to charging. Incredibly unreliable and shows working charging stations as unavailable etc. costumer service is hard to connect with and when you do get someone unless it’s for a remote charge stop they’re unhelpful

Terrible Loading Speed. I could cook a meal for a family four while waiting for this app to work. God forbid you press a button or try to look around the map, it’ll just freeze and load until you’re questioning wether getting an ev was a good idea in the first place. Plenty of other charging apps that actually work. EVgo or plug share are great examples if the developers need any inspiration.

DONT DO IT. Parked my car, wanted to charge it. Scanned the charger, was told I needed the app. Downloaded the app. Had to give it my info. Had to agree for my info to be shared. Had to feed money into an account. ONLY THEN did it tell me the charger was offline and not available to take payments. But they got my money! My bad. Don’t make the same mistake.

Buggy and unintuitive, sometimes works. Old Volta app was much better. Now we have to use this app which logs you out and stops your charging session randomly. Sometimes wouldn’t even start a session even after entering your payment

Pretty good but logs me out every couple of days. The app works well except for the fact that couple of days it logs me out. Minor issue but annoying to have to login every so often, especially considering the app doesn’t have FaceID.

Garbage app, garbage service. I am a Shell employee- yes the company that owns and operates Shell Recharge - and yet again I find myself today unable to use any of the chargers in our Shell office garages of my Houston office. Cryptic error messages, system seems to be down in general - refusal of service. No way to report problems. This is so very bad as it happens way too often. Worst app and service amongst ALL apps and services I am using in my daily life.

Avoid!. It just doesn’t work. I tried multiple chargers at different locations and was not able to charge at any of them. Each attempt put a $60 hold on my card. The instructions do not even match the process you use. I will be avoiding any chargers from Shell Recharge in the future.

Bad app. This app is very frustrating. It doesn’t communicate well when money has been uploaded to the wallet, so it is easy to do multiple uploads and end up spending much more money than intended. It also only connects to our local charging machines about half the time. Do better.

So far so good. I see the other reviews, but I’ve had no problems so far, and in fact, it got me out of a bind. So I highly rate 5 stars.

Requires payment for free chargers. For a chargers that are free that you used to simply plug into you in charge. You now need to log into the app initiate the charge with the charger and even though it’s free, you have to have money in the wallet meaning I have to give my credit card information to this company as well as tie up real money for free charging. I can’t think of anything stupider. I simply won’t use these chargers.

Bad sign up and slow performance. The sign up process was terrible. It kept saying I was logged out while trying to enter in my credit card info. Had to restart the app multiple times during the process. Once I was finally in and trying to add funds, the app screen didn’t update so I ended up adding funds twice.

Useless. Shell Stations are numerous where I live, but the app is only able to connect to a small number of them and without any consistency. It regularly gets stuck on the steps prior to charging. I would estimate that only about 10% of my attempts to charge are successful, and none on the first try.

OK. Overall the app works. Finding functional public charging is annoying. I think services that use a card reader that’s linked to your account is the easiest.

Terrible first impression. The app is deceptively designed to make you prepay before use. It is not clear that you are actually able to pay with a credit card directly instead of prepaying. The app offers very few features, yet is somehow still overly cumbersome to use. The Shell charging network is unreliable. The charging stations do not work when paying through the app nor when using a credit card at the station itself. I recommend avoiding the Shell recharge network all together. Find an alternative in your area.

Notifications Broken. Don’t bother with this app. They charge idle fees of $10/hr and the notifications of charging complete don’t work. Support is nice but don’t do anything. They’ve stung me for over $100 in fees on top of charging over the last few months. They’re actually incentivized not to fix their issues. Probably the worst charging network in the US.

Truly awful. It makes sense that an oil giant would take the time to make this experience as terrible as possible. Between the poor customer service reps who’s only job is to make the process worse with vague answers and lack of training and the chargers that only work on sunday’s after church. Better off buying solar panels because that would ultimately be faster than this.

The new version looks great!!. I regularly use Greenlots chargers. The app looks great and performs much better than the previous version. Great job!!👍
