Why did we build 'Read by QxMD'?

Health care professionals need to stay up to date on the latest medical research and topic reviews to provide optimal care. Unfortunately, the process of content discovery is broken with research artificially compartmentalized by publishers and hidden behind countless institutional pay walls.

At QxMD, we believe that knowledge translation– the process by which new knowledge is incorporated into clinical practice – is an important and unsolved challenge for our health care system. We hope that ‘Read by QxMD’ will be a part of the solution.

Seamless 1-tap access available at thousands of institutions.

Buggy. I have confirmed my sign up in my email and had it re-sent several times and it still prompts me to verify my subscription. Also my saved keywords get deleted almost instantly and the app doesn’t save them - I have to re-enter my search tearms constantly. If you could name your keyword search something else so a long string of search terms wouldn’t take up the whole page, that would be useful. Otherwise, this seems like a great idea for an app, love the connection to my library holdings

Intrusive Data Collection. This is a solid database, and the customized alerts option is great. However, there's no need for them to be helping themselves to so much of my data! The privacy agreement's ridiculous. Three stars is generous for that reason alone.

Login broken again. The most recent update broke the connection between my institution’s library/authentication and the app. Used to be my go to app that I would refer my students to.

Revolutionary, but.... If I had to point to one issue that I’d love to see fixed, it would be the ability to swipe to dismiss articles on the Featured Feed that I’m not interested in.

Can’t login. So the app states that they’ve joined forces with Medscape & is asking me to login. Whenever I enter my credentials, I just get a spinning circle. Nothing. Please fix!

You cannot share articles in the journal. You cannot share journal articles. You can only share links to QXMD or non-hyperlinked PMIDs. It’s ery frustrating to have to copy the PMID, put it into Google, then find that link and share that. What a useless app for sharing! I only use it now to discover new articles. I would never support paying for this company or giving them any kind of compensation.

Must have for physicians. I don’t know how I functioned before having this app. The only request I have...there are some journals I know that I should have access to with institutional login but I can never access them. Can this be fixed?

Feature request for a five star app!. I like the new layout, faster pdf link detection compared to the previous versions, however I miss a key feature, the ability to swipe between abstracts. I have to close an abstract to be able to read the next one, it would be nice to be able navigate by swiping between them. Also would be nice to have the collage view in the My journal. While I read abstracts from one journal, I do not want to see the list of journals, it is distracting, and uses valuable screen space. Thank you however for the great app.

PTC. Thank you so much for free knowledge sharing. We can study and know recent advances .

Great. I really like this application it makes me stay UpToDate on new papers.

Good overview of what colleagues are reading. This app is a good overview of articles that colleagues are reading and it links to a med but would be much more powerful if it could link to our individual subscription to the journal.

Doesnt work. Used to work perfectly years ago, now I am unable to access any articles as the page is forever stuck “authenticating” my institutional subscription.

Great app. Please bring back the badges for new articles in the My Journals section. Long time user, love the app.

More filter functions. The app is pretty great for exploring articles and keywords of interest. However, I wish it had more filtering functions. For example, under the Keywords page I could also filter for my journals of interest. This could be applied to the other tabs as well. If it’s already integrated then I wish it was made more obvious or easier to access.

Very Useful. Very useful. Helps to find the articles and let you know of them. Wish there were more resources to get the actual articles.

Continues to be the best. I’ve used Read for about 5 or 6 years and continue to be impressed. Once linked with library holdings there is no easier way to get and organize scientific literature in full text pdf form. On top of everything it’s still free. The only thing missing is a polished non-mobile platform (ie for my laptop). It’s there but there is definitely a stylistic and functional gap btw that and the iOS version. Still 5 star and highly recommended. Source: CT Anesthesiology Fellow at large academic institution/hospital setting.

No longer working. Since the newest update of the app, i an having terrible downloading articles. This is disappointing.

Solid app. Integrates extremely well with institutional access. Much better UI/ease of use over ClinicalKey app which is what I was using previously.

Login screen has dead fields. Password Login field is not clickable with new update. Cannot login from app. Works find online. Unusable since update.

Indispensable. There’s only one way to keep up with the literature in topics that interest me: have somebody else do it for me. And since I can’t afford somebody else, Read does it for me. And it whines a lot less plus I don’t have to buy it a Christmas present. Of course, I am writing a letter of recommendation for it, so maybe that’s a wash. But it doesn’t whine.

Best app ever. Exceeding expectations! The only app you will ever need. A must for all medical professionals.

Great.. must have for all physicians. I wish library integration was stronger even a built in VPN .. but better than anything else

Review. This app is my portable library. I come from the age of Index Medicus when articles were retrieved manually. I don’t know how I could keep up without this type of service.

Great app to track and push research interested papers. In addition, this app can link well to other apps, so you can use this one to track papers, and use other apps to manage papers.

Very good. I have this app most educative.

Love the learning, great app and 2 requests. The overall access to content is awesome. The notifications and areas of interest are great tools to keep up to date on the latest research. I have 1 reasonable request and 1 pipe dream. Could the articles be searchable for your keyword so that it is highlighted and indexed? Could technical words be linked to a definition?

Stop working after last update. As said above, program stop working after last update. All link from QMDx emails can not be open - some kind of “API error”

Trouble gaining access. I have been trying to set up an account to no avail. I input all the requested data and once I reach the end of the form, create and account quickly flashes at the bottom of the screen and then disappears. Also, Social Work is an option the specialties for Social Work aren’t broad enough. I hope you take my concerns serious enough to discuss amongst your team. Good Day.

Excellent addition to a physician’s toolbox. I don’t see myself as particularly well read and actively up to date all the time with current literature but this app helps me cheat a bit

Great APP. It is a nice app. Really helpful to better use time. By the way, it would be great if there’s place to make notes for personal.

Great When It Works. The idea of an app that uses your institutional login to navigate pubmed and seamlessly pulls article PDFs is brilliant. Unfortunately, it seems to be able to pull the PDF less than half the time when you’re not searching NEJM or JAMA. The lack of reliability makes me unable to recommend the app.

Wonderful update. This is the most useful app,it made it easier to discover articles that interest me, also with the new UI this app is perfect Now, great job,Thank you very much.

Fantastic app. This is an amazing app and a must have for any medical professional. This app makes it easy to keep up with the latest advancements in academia and research and brings it all to you

Frequent time outs. The app has great potential but it repeatedly gives time outs on my iPhone XS Max with a broadband internet connection. I’m hoping that the problem will be corrected soon. The time outs occur when saving an article to a collection.

Crucial app. Crucial app to stay updated with the latest evidence with great options to follow keywords and create collections Very easy to use and navigate

Awful now, used to be a great app. The app started to work out great, had all the features that you need to be updated with all the latest articles. Now however, the app does not update any journals. I have to delete the app and reinstall it to make its basic function work.

Recommended. Great app, fast, easy to use and unlimited topics to found to . I recommend it

Great app except of most recent update. Great app here and I use it frequently. Unfortunately the most recent update didn’t do much to change the app expect now you have to login EVERY TIME you use the app. Please fix this. It makes checking out articles on the fly between patients extremely tedious.

CEO/ President. I rely on this app to keep me as current as possible on new trends, studies, and research in critical care. Thanks

Few things to improve. This is a great app. Amazing. Few things to improve . 1) Of late, app doesn’t seem to refresh. There might be a bug somewhere 2). Institutional access list doesn’t seem to be comprehensive. Inclusion of HINARI & Research4Life access is important. Edit: The force refresh option is still not working consistently on ios15. This is very much troubling

3/5 Stars because.... Great idea, but many journals are missing...journals of pharmacy for example that have many useful studies. The impact factor is certainly not the same as NEJM; however, much information about therapy can be gleaned including many good review articles. Furthermore, I think having filters for types of articles/studies, RCT, retrospective, review, etc is very useful to eliminate alert/information fatigue. Awesome idea, needs more work, many thanks! Will update review if these features are introduced.

The ONE feature I need is bugged. Can’t log into my institution. The page just loads forever. Would give this five stars otherwise.

Can’t get it to work. I’ve used the app for years. It was really great. But a month or so ago I stopped being able to use it because I was not able to enter a password to login as the keyboard didn’t open. I could enter an email to login; just not a password. Hope this gets read by developers. I will remove 1 star immediately once I can login. I have iPhone SE.

Happy with this app, slight tweak suggestions. I use this app all the time if I need to find an abstract or article; it’s a lot easier than pulling up Pubmed on my phone or iPad. The only area for improvement I can see is support of Dark Mode, both for the app overall and for the screen that comes up when you save a PDF. Also for the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed that my badge count stays at 1 even if I’ve looked over all of the ‘new’ abstracts in my feed and subscriptions.

App update. I updated the app and then could not login. Password reset did not work after multiple attempts. I logged in with Medscape pw and list all my collections, preferences etc. Customer support never answered my email.

Not as good as before update. I have used Read by QxMD for better than 5 years to try to keep up with medical literature. Before the update 3-4 months ago, I could get article searches on several different subjects. However that option has been removed. I sent an email asking for either it to be returned or an explanation but only got a routine response that never addressed my issue. I tried again but no response in several weeks. Apparently it is no longer available . The app is still useful but much less. I am looking for an alternative.

Great app. Great app! Great support for the higher resolution XS and pro devices. We did notice an recurring issue with newer arcticles, likely those published ahead of print. The issue results in a PDF of an unrelated article in a different language being downloaded. This does not correct a month later if it already downloaded the incorrect article. We love the app. Can you fix this bug though?

Great for surveying articles, prohibitively slow to open, & only basic reader functionality. S

An essential app. Definitely one of my go to apps. Like all updates I cleared cache, rebooted and let it re index. This update give me just about everything I had been asking for. Native share sheets, can copy PMID if you have to go somewhere else to download full text. No longer matters what orientation you have it when trying to share. Better sharing to collections. I did have to log back into my library but that was no problem. Still one of my primary go to apps

Love it. This app is perfect and I love the emails that send newly published articles. The only thing I’d change is the ability to easily search through your own saved articles as it doesn’t seem Iike you can do so. You have to physically scroll through collections to look for the specific paper. Otherwise, the app is fantastic and I use it regularly!

Under appreciated gem. This app performs reliably, and has become a wonderful complement to my continuing professional education. I am VERY grateful to the developers for their innovation.

Great time-saving app. This is brilliant & so easy to set-up and use. Good work!

Uptodate. Great application! Love the notifications on the latest papers to my interest. Should be made more accessible to hospital and universities.

Great. One of the best medical apps.

Looks great. Should be very useful

QxMD. Wonderful innovation, very helpful and time saving

Awesome app!. What a great way to keep up to date!

Best daily journal. What a discovery! This gem of a journal that you collate from your favorite worldwide sources is very impressive in its range of useful features. Try it today. You couldn't possibly keep up to date without it!

Quick and thorough overview. Like a good current affairs magazine with special columns and sections which can be customised a good option to stay in touch with research.

Great app. Very impressive app - in particular the ability to access papers through the library subscription I have through the college

Super. For any time poor medical professional this is fantastic to keep up to date with what is important to you

App review. An excellent app that provides quick and easy access to your favourite medical topics. Simply select your area of interest then sit back while you are overwhelmed with information.

Highly recommend. As a health professional actively practising in family medicine I find the journals really useful to keep me updated as it lead me straight to the abstract. As I'm using my iPad, I can filter international journals/resources that I'm interested in and it gives me access either to PDF, pubmed or proxy (through uni). I'd certainly recommend this to my colleagues.

Perfect for trainees. This is the perfect application for trainees of any specialty. As a trainee in Paediatric Surgery I can stay up to date with all the relevant journals, while also easily searching for articles I need in other journals. The ability to read the PDFs (via proxy) without leaving the app and having to log in to every website is a phenomenal time saver. The support team are also extremely responsive and fixed a problem I had with the app in under 2 hours (a simple issue with proxy compatibility that needed to be fixed at their end). Superb app.

Handy app. This is such a great app!! Highlights important studies and allows me to download the pdf and save it to evernote.

Excellent but.... Would be five stars if I could "open in" the PDFs.

Gold. This app is gold. Easily allows me to read papers from my selected journals, download PDFs directly via my college library's proxy, and export files directly into my Papers3 library to easily rate and re-read later. I've got it on my phone and iPad and it's just perfect for unused moments between cases in theatre.

Great app! Very useful.. Very useful for abstract reviews and quick searches on scientific data

Pragmatic and efficient. Well done. A succinct means to access relevant user-defined journals of scientific research.

Excellent aggregator, reader needs tweaking. If your institution is supported , this is an excellent app for browsing most high-impact journals. Unfortunately the PDF reader has some issues; namely not being able to copy text or export to your own collection (Dropbox, papers, etc) Because some older articles make it into "recommended" (appropriately in terms of importance which is amazing/nice) you can easily miss the publication date. (Reviewed on iPhone)

Best rss journal app I've used. At a somewhat tedious apple ed event, this gem was mentioned. I'd put it in the same must have class as Evernote et al.

Fantastic. Access to the latest journals with easy links to full papers. A wonderful app!

It's medicine friendly, but not for research user.. Just need more custom options for filters.

Very useful. This was a recommended to me by a student I was instructing. I hope that I was able to be as useful as this app has already been. I need to see if my institutional library can assist me with logins as the included list of organisations is very US focussed. This could be an area of improvement. The next steps may be to include database (e.g. PubMed and Ovid) searching directly in the app and then and ability to sync / transfer to another terrific app called Papers.

Excellent. I use this app regularly. Easy way to browse subject and I can usually access the full article through the app. Fantastic!

Great app. Grt idea. I was waiting for such app which can integrate search features with automated login.

Best in it's space.. This app is amazing. It's a must have for ANY doctor or scientist. Thankyou for this app. I nice tweak would be to include the author names with the article previews. Would be wonderful to have the option to view a clickable Table of Contents for journals of interest.

Need to solve independent institution access. Great app if you have an adjunct or similar that lets you in through a library, very easy to use and search, thanks

Great app. Great app for med professionals. Keep you updated and save heaps of time!

Must have for medicos. The best app I've seen for quick and easy access for the latest and most important articles relevant to your specialty, all in the palm of your hand. Heaps of gateways supported for full text journals in many countries.

QxMD app wants to track you. To use this app, you need to give it open slather access to track you, what you read, your contacts etc. Unacceptable.

Great stuff!. Exactly what I needed. Move over uptodate!!

Excellent resource for EBP. I manage to access most of my readings through this app, the format makes it easy to choose favourite journals and terms to focus search results. I have linked my University library access as a proxy and can immediately download article, thanks for a great product

Read. This App is easy to use. Once set up it pushes your selections seamlessly It makes it easy to keep up your CME

A must have for every doctor.. This is quality.

Outstanding. Love this app! I work as a professor of emergency Med, and the fact that I’m sent feed without any effort is great. Would recommend it to any health care professional

Full of bugs and not integrating with Twitter. The app just keeps crashing each time you try share with Twitter . No help from the email support either

Excellent app. Excellent app to updated on journals and specialties of interest. Even better if your institution is supported as you can directly access the PDF article. The PDF viewer is a bit dated in terms of function (on the iPhone anyway). It would be great if you could auto rotate to view the PDF in landscape mode and export to other PDF support apps such as goodreader or iBooks.

Excellent app for easy perusal of literature. Heartily recommend this app for doctors, great with a library proxy login to download the full text. Would be nice to directly save a copy in iBooks but the labelling system does work well. Great range of journal available to follow

Great app. Access to a huge number of quality up to date journals and articles. May log in through an institution. Articles are viewable in pdf format. Ability to customise favourites to keep up to date with the latest in your area of interest.

Great app. Needs some improvement.. Really great idea. Things that would make the iPhone app better are: 1. Landscape view support to read documents. 2. An "open in" option. I would like to be able to open PDFs in other apps such as file managing apps or pdf editor apps for annotation and editing. 3, iCloud / Dropbox / other cloud storage system support. 4. More accurate editing of specialities / topics to follow. I hope these features will be added to future releases. Despite all this - a great app!

Fantastic. Easy to use

Very helpful. Very helpful to stay current with the recent publications.

Best way to keep up to date. By far the easiest and most efficient way I have found to keep up to date with the recent literature in clinical toxicology. A few keywords and the relevant journals then sit back and let QxMD tell me when something new has been published. I like that it looks at the articles accepted but not yet in print as well. Highly recommended.

Must have.. An extremely well thought out and executed app that greatly enhances clinical practise. A must have for both the experienced clinician and the junior doctor starting out in his/her career

One app to rule them all. What a great idea. This app will forever change the way you read journals. Seamless one click PDF downloads through institutional access.

A dream. No doctor or scientist can be without this.

High quality. An excellent app around which I now base all my reading of the medical literature. It integrates well with my university library access to pull the full text articles. On my wish list for this app would be the ability to open PDF in Dropbox or Goodreader. At the moment the only way to extract the PDF is to email it to myself. The randomly assigned file names are sometimes rejected as spam

Excellent. Brilliant app. You won't regret downloading it. Keeping up to date has never been so easy!

Essential. Read by QXMD is one of the most useful applications on my iDevices. This app simplifies the process of accessing the library of academia, and has incredible potential. In medical practice, Read is my first port of call when researching new topics and it does not fail to disappoint. One of the most useful features is the 'Most Popular' email that arrives every week. This update is usually fairly good at highlighting the most important new research in any given area. Would love to see a desktop port of this application.

Essential for all physicians. This is a great app that essential for all physicians or physicians in training. With so many articles coming out at once. It's great to have a single source with all the important papers.

Incredible. Must have app!!

QxMD. This was extraordinarily useful in preparation for a recent seminar. Super- highly recommended

Very useful. Very handy and useful app for med professionals

Improved my reading habits. This is an app that I downloaded few months ago, it’s ow connected to my institution access and present me with different articles options on daily daily basis. The app has a nice outlay and I can navigate easily using it. I highly recommend it.

Wonderful. Even if it does not give you the full article, at least it keeps you aware of the new articles released at your selected areas. You can then review it using your academic institute access. Loved it and I have been using it now since 2013

MD. Excellent on the go reference.

Excellent early version. Allowing the non-techie crowd to access the literature without mucking around with VPNs or proxies is a Great idea! QxMed hits it long with a great design and ease of use. It will get a full 5 stars with 3rd party integration with the following apps: Evernote Papers Instapaper & Pocket I imagine others would appreciate integration Endnote/Refworks/Zotero etc. This would help complete the academic workflow. A desktop version would be awesome too!

Poor database management. This app fails the fundamental task of being able to access articles easily and bookmark and organize quickly. There are always api or app error alerts and it has become unusable because it’s not functional.

authentication bugs not addressed. Was previously a great app. Since takeover by medscape, institutional authentication no longer works for my institution, rendering the app useless. Multiple open tickets to address this issue have not been addressed over a several month period with no contact from customer support. Disappointing as I really found this app useful in the past.

Best app for doctors on the App Store. Unbelievable!. I would give this app 10 stars.

Great tool. It’s a great way to daily scan important research

Love it!!. Wonderful app. Makes reading relevant papers so much easier!

Great!!!. I can't stop reading!!!!

Great source. It gives you great access to needed papers and updates, thank you

Suggestion. This app would be way more useful if the abstract was included when we click on a title.

Amazing app for any medical professinal. The app is excellently designed. Creating a proxy was simple and quick. Having a "Flipboard"-like interface with journal and specialty customization is something I was looking for, and it has not been properly done until now. Well done! Best regards from a medical student fan.

Great App for keeping up to date. I have found this app decent for tracking interesting papers in the journals I follow. Good layout, interesting design. Although I have only had it a short time I have found it to be quite useful. My only complaint is that I wish the downloaded PDF versions of the papers I wish to read could be imported into other apps (which is not possible in this version).

Wow! Doctor's MUST!. Are you one of the so many doctors who would love to spend a little hour here and there to read the main titles of the dozen journals of medicine you (wish) to follow ... but unfortunately don't for all the good reasons? Well here's the bridge to just doing that! A definite must for every M.Ds out there!

Phishing for your personal data. The app asks for very sensitive information like licensing number etc. There is absolutely no need for them to know all of that other than selling your data.

Excellent medical app. I really love this app. I love that it finds papers for me in my specialty. I love that I don't need to mess around with passwords and firewalls and library cards and log-ins. The latest version (March 6th) has finally incorporated annotations! Now I can add a note, draw freehand, highlight and underline right on the paper, then save it to my library. I love that I can add my own labels to the papers I save, to help organize my library. The number of journals and references available is just amazing. I am so pleased to have such a useful professional app, now if I can just convince my boss buy me an iPad for work use! This is a very useful app.

Great app. Fantastic speed to download and great usability. Best integrated reader on mobile so far. Would be 5 stars with annotations.

QxMd. Highly useful. Very large coverage of clinical tools in a wide variety of disciplines. User interface excellent.

Excellent app for clinicians on the go. If you need a compact app to bring updates from your favourite journals together in one place, look no further.

No longer works. This was my favourite app on my phone, super useful and very easy to use. Now I am no longer able to login. I’ve opened a few tickets but have yet to hear back from the support team.

Great. Very useful app. Highly recommended

Awesome app for reading papers!. It just works like magic and helps me keep up to date! Finally I can easily use my university's subscriptions to access the papers and PDFs I want to without fumbling with VPNs and proxy servers on my computer. An amazing app... And best of all it's free and free of ads. A must get!

Excellent app. Just a finger tip away from awesome articles

Keeps crashing. Loved the app but now since the updates it just keep crashing. Hoping for a fix soon!

Excellent app for staying on top of literature. This app is excellent for solving the problem of having to painfully manage many e-tocs in your email. Now I can add my list of journals and in one app check out all the new papers in my field. The authors were responsive in my request to add additional journals. This app is a game-changer for scientists.

Awesome. If only they can have more filters and save the setting for filter. But overall, it's pretty good!

Previously great. Used to work really well. Since latest updates/Medscape takeover it is barely usable. Difficult to log in. Then once in really really tough to get authentication with institution to open papers

In short, the holy grail as far as I am concerned!. You've done it right. Add the ability to click on the links in the references of a paper one is reading would truly put this over the top!

.... Amazing ...

Great!. Very good and productive. Thank you for a great job.

Needs dark mode. This app has many great features, such as push notifications about new articles, being able to create your own folders and the ability to follow specific topics/ journals. However... there’s two major oversights that should be addressed and a few minor suggestions. The first, there’s no dark mode... I find I’m using this app less and less because of this. I do a lot of my reading at night and even after adjusting my phones brightness settings the interface of the app is just too bright. Secondly, there’s no option to sort articles in your feeds. It seems rather intuitive that someone using this app would want to sort and filter articles in their feeds, yet unfortunately the developers did find such a feature necessary. Lastly, it would be really awesome if this app could link to or Conner with your Research Gate profile, or alternatively, have a better user profile interface in the app. Overall, the app is great but I don’t think the people designing the app are actually using it or else we’d see some better updates regarding design and ease of use.

Good app when it works. Support does not exist. I enjoy the app when it works. Lately it has not. I emailed earlier for assistance. No one replies. I am not sure why. Usually my issue improves after a negative review. I wish I didn’t have to do it again yet here we are!

Incredible!. This is amazing! It makes finding relevant and great quality papers so easy. This is truly a game changer. Than you for your great work! I've recommended it to my friends and they love it too.

Great app. Got it today and easily found new papers with it. Very useful

Changed my life. Amazing

Revolutionary. I never write reviews for apps but this app is so wonderful that I had to! So easy to use and makes keeping up to date with the medical literature a breeze.

Stellar. The future of medical literature review. I am amazed. Utterly amazed at the quality, the finish and scope of this application. This could be the best application to stay up-to-date in medicine since, well, UptoDate. And UptoDate is around $500 a year. This is free. Incredible. Job well done QxMD. Extremely well done.

.dhkfs. Sigh

Unbelievable!. This is an incredible app! It helps me stay on top of all the best literature. Highly recommended!

QxMD is fantastic!. Where have you been all my life, Qx?

Great app. One of my favourites - but recent update crashes on iPhone 11. Please fix!

Great app. Very happy with this app. Loads easily. Forwards PDFs easily.

Amazing app!. An awesome app. Love it!

Very helpful. I really like the app and think it can be an asset for most physicians who like to stay current. One thing I would like to see is an option to initiate the PDF download manually rather that the current automatic download while you are reading the abstract.

The app has been a useful addition to my ability to update my knowledge and an excellent alternative to flipping through multiple journals to read up on most recent studies and articles. With my institutional ID I am able to use my academic credentials to obtain the full articles to read and send to myself to print. These features have resulted in time savings and has increased the probability that I will read more, especially in my spare time instead of perusing Facebook as I am waiting and away from my library.

Poor support. Hard to get any response . CME process was disrupted ? after merger with Medscape.

Lit Updates You Want All the Time. This is even better than my ongoing searches, the auto ones in Endnote etc, because it comes to my phone where I'm likely to read them in free spare moments and the app has caught more things I'm interested in based on categories and other peoples' collections. Very happy, recommending to all other vets I know. Would be awesome to get more vet journals--a few exotic animal medicine ones aren't included yet from what I can tell.

One of the best apps ever! Clean, sleek and hassle free!!. This app has been wonderful. I have used it for eight months. It has been invaluable in helping me keep up with the latest literature in my field of interest. It is something I can't do without when preparing to write a paper or update a lecture. The Read QxMD setup was easy. There has been a smooth integration of the application into my workflow, with its regular delivery of reference titles to my email from either journals I follow or keywords I have selected. The Read QxMD application makes it easy to download references into my PDF reference manager. After a simple setup of Read QxMD, I have been able the tap into Pub Med and a myriad of other databases or into directly into my university library account to research articles. Read QxMD lets me see selected references and pull their PDFs directly into my computer or mobile device. This is a must have app for anyone in academia or academically inclined. By the way it plays nice with Papers, a great PDF manager.

Must have. Best app on the store

Most useful tool for staying up to date. This app single handedly made my iPad purchase worth it. It makes keeping up to date with many journals so easy. This is especially true when you'd do not have an individual subscription to the journal but an institutional subscription to many journals. Read also makes downloading PDFs very easy and it is indeed a one tap process as advertised. I had trouble accessing journals initially and brought it to the developers' attention. It was rectified promptly. Sharing is extremely useful via uploading and emailing options through their reader. Recent support was added for direct upload it google drive and Dropbox. If there was one thing I would like to add it would be a dedicated offline reading function for abstracts with a download it later feature when you are able to reconnect to the internet. This is a small qualm when read has really single handedly facilitated my interest in reading a set of journals as they update. Two thumbs up.

Awesome. I NEVER leave reviews but this app is by far the best medical article reading app I've discovered. It's even better on the iPad. If only they'd find a way to address the fact that sometimes it says that they can't access an article I can access via pubmed without making me re-enter the info it would be AMAZING. Also it'd be nice if we could add accounts for multiple facilities for those of us who work at multiple hospitals.

Well done!. I was a little skeptical to use this app, but use Qx Calculate all the time so I gave it a whirl. As a Mendeley, Dropbox user for my med lit needs I didn't think this would measure up. However, I was pleasantly surprised! The institutional login process works perfectly and download speeds are fast. The search results are great too with highly relevant hits. The recent integration of sources from Qx Calculate and Read was nice too. Might need to add highlighting or other editing features for PDFs. Also ability to export to Mendeley, Dropbox or CiteULike.

Phenomenal. I was scrambling to find articles for presentations, and ran across this app. As long as you have a login to an institution with access to journals you can get them quickly and easily. The only thing I dislike is if I want to share the article with somebody it won't let them access the whole thing, however, that's probably some lawyer crap. The organization abilities are great. I feel like I need to make sub categories within my categories at times. Great job!

Convenient & useful. I’d been getting emails without access to the full articles after accessing a related app. I finally signed up & allowed access to my institution’s biomedical library. A great way to keep up with interests without multiple logins. It’s terrific! For important articles, you can immediately file the .pdf in your .pdf library. A great way to keep up and very useful, especially in the academic setting.

Medical Journals made easy. I didn't realize how easy looking up articles can be on my mobile devices. Plus you can organize into folders, follow your own journals or others' collections (folders), subscribe to emails of updates, and more. My library access works with one touch - a key feature that I have not found elsewhere - so that I can view full text instantly as I am browsing titles and abstracts. If you do not have an online library access, this app could still let you navigate and organize abstracts of articles -- like you can with PubMed. (Many hospitals and organizations have online subscriptions; if you email an article request to the hospital librarian, you can obtain the full article.). Of course, some articles on this app or PubMed website are available full text.

Outstanding work. User interface is very efficient making use of the ipad wide real estate screen with smooth transitions between its many features. I am surprised by its ability to pull articles from lots of sources, and ease of sharing documents and links. Developers are reliable and reply promptly to software requests. Looking forward to many updates. Looks like this is a keeper, especially if you're looking for modern way to search and keep up to day in research and science.

It's okay with one major flaw. The article viewer and markup capabilities are really awesome and intuitive. The major issue is that the article searching function is terrible. Unless you type in exactly the title of the paper, it won't be found. You can't search for articles by keyword either. I end up having to google the keywords to find the exact title of the paper (forget searching for new papers in the field) then copying the title into this apps search bar. Sometimes that even doesn't return the proper result. Makes it really annoying when I can download the pdf online faster than I can find it here.

Essential app. I make use of this app on a daily basis, to stay up to date with new literature in my field. More importantly I use it to easily download articles and store them in such a way that I have quick access to them at a later time by tagging them. Also excellent annotation options. Points of improvement: 1. Search bar in the Favorites section to avoid having to manually scroll through the whole list 2. Annotated PDFs ideally would sync between different devices

QxMD read is the bomb. QxMD is hands down the best tool to retrieve and organize papers on the app store. It also lets you share papers basically however you want, create lists of favorite papers you can share and subscribe to other people's favorite lists. The automatic proxy server sign in is a game changer (although its sometimes spotty on whether it decides to work or not). The fact that it automatically downloads pdf papers to your app to read offline is great too. All around a great app.

Great source to centralize all your up to date journal needs. This is a fantastic app and I'm so grateful they made it! Reading multiple journals can be challenging on different sites, clicking through different menus, etc and this app makes that so much easier. I love that you can pick what journals/subjects to subscribe to and I love making different folders for different paper topics. Also fun to follow other peoples collections! Caveat: the app is more useful if you have institutional access so you can get full texts, but you can at least read abstracts and bookmark papers of interest

A game-changer for clinicians and scientists. This is the first app I've ever felt the need to review. It is simply amazing. It's like having a copy of the latest issue of (fill in whatever journal you like as long as your institution has access) on your iPhone or iPad at all times. It keeps you updated about new articles in your "favorite" journals or articles in any journal that mention your "keywords." The user interface is clean, modern and easy to read. The proxy server works well so that all the logging in is done in the background (and you avoid having to navigate multiple screens just to get to an article). MINOR suggestions: 1. Option to have the first or last author appear in the preview (currently it's only one screen away). 2. Option to change the default screen. 3. Option to have articles "dated" by their issue as opposed to the date they were electronically posted. Wonderful app!

Impressive. I was skeptical about how functional this could be considering the restrictions imposed on viewing full pubmed articles....but was very surprised as to how easy it was to enter my information for logging in through my university service....(it is easier than doing it on my computer!) Am recommending this to all students, graduate assistants, and researchers that want to keep up to dae with current literature. This app was well thought out and works very well. I would like to see however the issue of annotations addressed by having the ability for it to be opened in apps such as notability. Besides that, this is a great app.

Outstanding. This is an extraordinary tool. I can breeze through the literature on topics in my field and areas of interest nearly effortlessly. Actually I never thought I was the kind of a guy who would ever write a letter like this. At first, I was pretty skeptical. Then something amazing started to happen. People started to notice me more. Someone, well actually it was the new director in personnel who seemed to be making eye contact with me. Diana. She seemed to go out of her way to make small talk. At first I thought this is a woman who is really into current events and weather. I was caught completely off guard. I went out of my way to talk to her too. It really passed the day. She was cute and smart and interesting. The days flew by like so many uncomfortable, irresistible seconds. ext thing I know it's Christmas and the company Christmas party. She was simply breathtaking. And so was her older sister who was came with her. Read by QxMD is a state-of-the-art app that puts the information I want right in my inbox.

Great summary. I have very little time on a daily basis to review pertinent literature and i've found the features of this program to be a great help. the ability to rapidly go through abstracts and download the full text pdfs of pertinent articles is a huge help as is the tagging feature allowing you to categorize things based on projects, topics, journals etc. I think this is a great app if you want to stay abreast of new developments in a medical specialty and do so in a timely fashion.

Extremely useful!. One of the best applications I have ever used. Being in the medical field this one application has made it simple for all of us. It helps bring all of the important journal articles into one specific place so that it can be easily be accessible to everyone in the field. Please do not stop development on this one application it has brought many great articles to like where us busy professionals are unable to get to every day. Best application ever.

Solves a long standing problem, and does it well. The fact that this program so fluidly obtains papers after having saved my institutional login is phenomenal. The barrier to sitting around and reading papers when I had a free moment has always been setting up a VPN or logging in through my institution’s website and clawing myself to the periodical of interest. Problem solved with this program. Now I flip through all of the journals relevant to my field and this program automatically obtains the papers as I am thumbing through the abstracts on my iPad. Absolutely phenomenal. When somebody mentions a paper that I should read or is relevant to the situation at hand, I can pull it up now just as easily as a google search on my phone. Incredible. I downloaded all the other programs in the App Store that claim to accomplish what this one does, and none of them measure up. Excellent app.

Quick and easy. Great way to stay updated on current literature. My attending quoted a recent study about hernia repairs and post op pain in the OR. I had just read it because it came up in my QxRead app. He was suggesting that we use absorbable sutures because it causes less pain. I mentioned that the study had also found a higher recurrence rate. We ended up using non-absorbable sutures and my attending was very impressed. Thanks QxRead. I will recommend this app to all my fellow residents.

Journal selection seems "off". The automatic full text retrieval is fantastic and much more efficient, actually, than going through my institution's library portal. However, in the areas of subspecialty in which I am interested, the articles selected seem heavily biased toward low impact/obscure journals despite my attempts to tweak it toward the core high impact journals. It seems to miss some of the major articles because of this. Update: after several more months of use I still find this frustrating. I hope they work on improving the algorithm to focus on high impact journals.

The best app for research. I usually don't write reviews but I had to write one for Read by QxMD because I am just really impressed with this app! I've been using it for about two years now and still question how it could be free. The UI is VERY clean and iOS looking, makes it a completely different experience browsing through research articles at your fingertip. Very stable app and so far has all the journals I can think of. A great key feature is inputting your institution or university's login for the library databases and automatically obtaining the full PDF format of the article. Although the login sometimes has issues but it offers you to do it manually plus I don't expect them to get the server connection to EVERY schools library perfect. The PDF reader in this app is excellent with highlighting and notes, also you can add journals and articles to favorites in organized sections. This IMHO is the perfect research app, the time it takes to find the article on the databases manually and obtaining the full PDF text has been reduced for me exponentially as well as making it more pleasing to find articles all in one place. Highly recommend it to anyone in school, plus it's free! I wish I could donate for their effort into this app.

Institutional Access with Duo. Well structured app, but does not allow institutional verifications for libraries that do 2-step logins with Duo

Amazing App!. This is definitely one of the most useful and amazing apps I have ever used. If you have access to a full fledged medical library, such as at a university or medical school, you can get PDF copies of selected articles almost instantly (otherwise you can get abstracts and any free/open source content)One can pick as many journals in any specialty you want, and it will show you the contents of each journal monthly. You can narrow your focus on specific topics as well. The app has worked flawlessly since I set it up a few months ago. Get this app- you won't regret it!!!

Perfect!. I like to keep up on the latest news & info on a variety of topics related to medicine and the human body. I am a physical therapist assistant which means I'm working with patients (no we don't get coffee - we're are treatment providers see also: Nurse Practitioner) every day who count on me to be up-to-date on their conditions and the latest treatment guidelines and best practices - I see it as my responsibility to this as well! This app is PERFECT! It brings together orthopedics, neurology, and musculoskeletal research topics and puts them all together in one location and organized for easy access to what I'm most interested in! Great job, guys! Keep up the good work and thanks a bucket-load for this app!!!👍👍👏

Free articles. Why not all articles can be opened for free

Fantastic app for medical professionals on the go. This may be the only app review I've ever written or will write, and it's because this app is so cool! It does help that I have institutional access, so I cannot speak on the accessibility for those who are unable to link to an institutional account. I am now able to track all new articles and practice guidelines which may be applicable to my practice, and at the touch of a button. I am currently a resident physician, and I find the access to the literature ingenious. The search function makes it as easy, if not easier, to focus on particular questions or topics as searching on pubmed, and you typically have access to the full text or pdf within seconds. Only occasionally have I not been able to access the article immediately, but with a few more extensions, I am usually able to access through a different source, still through the app. I've used multiple other medical apps which boast similar functions, but this is the best app if you want to read on evidence-based medicine in your specialty and not just what's currently popular or happening in the media. I hope this app sticks around for good!

Using this for my papers. I'm a resident physician, and have recently started three projects. This app is an amazing tool for both finding papers that might already cover my topic and finding supporting references. The keyword system allows me to search extremely specific topics. I also like being allowed to browse my journal. Just a tip - if you have VPN access through your school/hospital, download an app that allows you to log on using your ipad/iphone.

Great literature tracking and reading app for all biomedical researchers. 1. Not like those RSS-based literature readers on the market, QxMD directly download and manage the PDF file of the paper you read using your university's proxy. So you can read the paper's full text at any time even using public Internet connection. 2. QxMD has a very comprehensive literature library. I am a computational systems biologist, I can find all important theoretical and computational journals I need to track. 3. You can easily share papers in QxMD with friends through major social media Facebook, Twitter etc. as well as email. You can even create collections of interesting papers for people to follow. Overall, I love this app. It turns paper searching and reading into a very fun thing to do everyday.

Scientist on the go. I absolutely love this app. The biggest benefit is that it links seamlessly to your institutional access so you can open subscription journals on your home internet as well as on the institutional network. The article pops up quickly in a PDF. It has other benefits such as being able to favorite and send articles. You can tell it what you are interested in and it will notify you of new papers in your field. I would recommend this to anyone that likes to read papers on a mobile device.

Email confirmation broken. Keeps telling me I need to confirm my email even though I have.

I can't get any of it.. I am not a medical student, doctor, or researcher of any kind but I am interested in educating myself on medical issues. I have been able to find one or two papers that I could access without credentials but for the most part I could only get a summary. It's more than I might have known before but it isn't enough. However if you have the backing of a university or an association of some sort this is an exceptional app. I could find every issue I was interested and more quickly than I could on Google Scholar because I don't have to sift through unrelated articles. I would definitely give it a 6 if I could get access to them all like I could to the two papers I could get to. I'm giving this a 3 in the hopes that my problem will get solved.

A must have for clinicians. Original review: The idea behind this app is a very good one. Its not easy to keep of with the literature when its hard to get to. This definitely helps consolidate studying and keeping up to one place. Minor fixes need to take place for functionality in the PDF reviewing -such as how to undo a highlight or note added by mistake. Proxys/passwords for access to locked content did not work for me. I like the tags feature for grouping articles. I love being able to search by categories. It would be nice to narrow a search down to reviews only, or case studies only, or RCTs only for a given search term. It would be great if there was some sort of integration with EndNote or similar functionality to keep track of and export citations other than sending individual emails. The popup box with overview cannot be highlighted and copied to paste into anther app where I would want to keep a list of citations. I'm sure the developers will eventually add these features. Overall I am very pleased with the content the app tries to deliver. Update: 1-5-16 Developers have improved VPN access and now I can download the PDFs much easier, in fact easier than using my institutions full text links from pub med. I can also export the files directly to EndNote. Still would like an undo button for markups. Overall this a fantastic app!

The inability to get the full paper make these synopses less than idea. See above

Excellent app for keeping up with literature. I have this app on my iPhone 6+ and my iPad 3, and I thoroughly enjoy it. It's easy to set up with my institution. Browsing and searching articles is a breeze-- definitely better than any library website I've used. I really that I can open articles from Read in other apps, like Notability for iPhone or iAnnotate for iPad. Whatever your favorite pdf reader is, the app and iOS make it a breeze. The only downside is that sometimes articles cannot download. I don't thinks that's a fault of the app, but more on issue of cataloging & linking out on the web.

API error every other day. Getting consistent sso error, ID 245 Works great when it works, but not becoming a huge hassle.

Excellent. This is the most useful application on my phone. I spend a lot of time scrolling through articles. For a change the application user interface has been built with aesthetics in mind. I am tired of looking at ugly looking applications. I love the institutional access and the fact that now I do not have to worry about putting in my credentials every time I want to read an article in one of my favorite journals. The only thing I would like in this application is integration with box or Dropbox or WebDAV or letting me open PDF in another application.

Must have medical app. But after merging with medscape, it's bugggggyyyyy

Best app for staying up to date on the go. Needs more annotation tools.. The best aspect of this app is that you can easily use your login credentials to download a pdf of a paper. It is not glitchy and works reliably. What more could you ask for? Because of that simple feature, I have happily used this app for years. But I have one continued complaint... this app needs better annotation tools for reading and note taking while reading papers. The app could be a one stop shop for reading scientific literature, but their lack of annotation abilities limits its use substantially. Please add some more annotation abilities! Also, the highlight method (dragging a box) has a lot of drawbacks. Just saying.... I would pay for the ability to powerfully annotate PDFs in this app. Please consider adding your own features or collaborating with another company that has developed a powerful pdf annotation app (Branchfire is the best out there) to add these features. The app still earns a hearty 4/5 stars because the institutional access to papers is so robust.

Great. Very handy automatic downloading of papers and alert of new articles. Has replaced my E-mail table of contents alerts, so I unsubscribed to all of them. Only drawback is that some journals that I should have access to via my institution fail to connect and I have to login through the web browser instead. In future updates, would be handy to be able to browse journals by issue and discriminate accepted manuscript (unformatted) from formatted versions. Usually would rather wait to download at least the corrected proof rather than accepted manuscript. Recommend new icon to match iOS style!

QX Reader. The ability to follow entire journals on my ipad really makes life a lot easier. Also, the search function makes google scholar unnecessary for finding quick relevant articles, and is much faster than trying to log into my library through safari and searching. One suggestion is to make the pdf "open in" icon in the viewer have an option to open in another program on the device instead of just share on Facebook, twitter or email.

Great app for medical professionals who want to stay current. I use this app every day and I love it. It is customizable for your profession, your needs and your goals. There are several options to seek answers to clinical questions, as well as options to keep you up to date in your field. I love that abstracts are provided, but articles can be easily downloaded all in one place. Institutional access is also helpful to assist with obtaining as many references as possible. Truly a great, well-made application for medical professionals.

Great way to keep up. I enter my university access info, select the journals or fields I want to follow, and the app feeds relevant articles to review every day. I can view abstracts or full articles in the app. my favorite feature is that it automatically downloads any articles for which I view the abstract and I can email myself the ones I want to study further without the trouble of logging into the library remotely. Also, it brings relevant articles to my attention from journals that I wouldn't normally follow. It's a great way to scan the journals routinely.

Excellent app, would be perfect with a few more options. Overall, well worth using and lots of kudos to the developers!! A few minor improvements would make it 5 star for me. App has been working pretty smoothly -- hiccups with institutional access about 5% of the time for unclear reasons, even when it worked with the same journal moments before. Would prefer option for articles to display in list view rather than flip board format which is very inefficient. Other aspects of the user interface could also be streamlined such as saving favorites, searching for journals to add and viewing unread articles. I especially want to be able to view all unread articles at once across journals rather than having to go through on a journal by journal basis. When I do find an article to read, it can take 30-90 secs to login to the proxy and then download, which is also annoying. Perhaps there could be some sort of pre-login to the proxy server upon opening the app that would prevent this from happening with each and every article. I would like to be able to sync saved articles to my desktop or to Dropbox and not have to keep emailing them to myself. Having a default email to self option would at least make this step less cumbersome. Overall, this is a good app with tons of potential. But the minor inefficiencies are still annoying to me, every time I use it. Keep up the excellent development.

PhD. It is awesome... Thank you Read

Needs one thing. It is difficult to use this app without institutional access. However, there are some journals on the master list that are open access. If only the list was marked in some way, so that it was easy to tell without having to,add it, try to download and article, then edit it, find it again on a very long list, and delete it. All it needs it a simple asterisk or some such identifier to save soooo much time, and let us easily know which journals are open access and which require institutional accounts. Do that and you get a 5. Not all of us are still connected to institutions that give access.

Superb application. As a PharmD and MPH graduate student, I find myself constantly searching the literature world for updates and information. This app really allows you to take all of the literature world and squeeze down to readable levels which are relevant to your field. The only downfall is journal access. As with any medical or research based primary literature.. Accounts must be obtained for access. Good news is, if you are a student or hospitalist, you can connect your literature accounts to this app!
