Great Trainer. I use it all the time for recurrence training, you ca even practice the approach procedure on this app to get familiar with the local areas that you will fly the next day. Highly recommending it fo pilots that will fly aircraft equipped with gtn750.

Somewhat useful. This app is useful for learning the basic functions of the GTN, however, it really has become orphaned. Garmin for whatever reason has not updated it to keep up with the significant improvements made over the years to the GTN unit so it doesn't really reflect the current state of the GTN. For this reason I can't recommend using it beyond the free trial period. If you do decide to purchase it you'll be getting essentially an unsupported app for $25. Garmin can and should do better than this.

Good for what it's intended for.. I like this app, as it allows me to explore all the different buttons and sub menus of my GTN 650, from the comfort of my easy chair. I am particularly glad this new version lets you choose a GTN 650 interface, whereas the old version you were stuck with just the 750.

Not fully thought through!. Usefulness is greatly reduced by the fact that the programs starts all over with the initialization every time you minimize the screen. For example if you spend 30 minutes to setup an elaborate flight plan to test all the features, the you have to go to the browser to lookup something on the net, when you get back to this program it will have erased everything you did and stars all over from the initialization again like you just turned it on!

Very Worth it!!. I found this trainer to be simply amazing. Would highly recommend anyone get this program if you are looking at getting a GTN. I have had no problems with the program losing it's place if I switch out of it and come back.

GTN App. Great app for training, except a recent update turned my originally paid for app into a trial and it wants me to buy it again! Waiting for Garmin to respond. It is a must have app for any owner of a GTN or for CFI's training a GTN owner.

Currently broken. The newest iPad version seems to have broken the entire software

Manual does not work. The whole purpose of this app is to learn this system. When the manual does not work it makes this app useless!

Great for learning the ropes. This app was perfect for learning my way around the system. I'd definitely recommend it for any new GTN owner.

Excellent for RNAV I can’t fly ILS. I can make the simulator fly RNAV all day but when I try to fly an ILS even after I tunes the correct frequency in the navigation side and have it fly on auto pilot it will not descend. VLOC is being displayed and I’ve loaded and activated the approach It will not to descend on auto pilot it will if you change the altitude while flying in manual mode but this doesn’t make any sense because you should be able to fly in auto pilot and change your altitude and have it follow. Overall a great app I just wish it would fly the ILS and hopefully I’m not doing something wrong.

Excellent way to learn. Just spent two days on this program mastering the GTN. Book at my side, iPad to play on. What a great asset to those wishing to become proficient. Do not understand the objections regarding restart on leaving program. Flight plans and position can be saved. And as a teaching tool, the more of its functions you use, the more it has achieved it's purpose.

Disappointed. Such a well-executed app EXCEPT for the fact that it reinitializes anytime you switch away from it! That is totally insane! You can't even go look at documentation or use your Garmin Pilot app without starting over. This continues to be true with the lates release. Come on, Garmin, FIX this!!

GTN 650. The screen is gorgeous and the idea is fantastic. It does not agree with the Garmin PC trainer and some of it is missing (Utilities)on the HOme Page. Also the layout is different (4 keys across vs 3). Wish they were the same.

Excellent except for two BIG problems. Thank you Garmin for providing this ‘free’ trainer (although it’s not really free since we pay through the nose for your hardware and databases (even though those are provided by the government)). This is excellent for training, although using the simulator is almost useless if you want to practice on actual routes you might use or local area stuff, because you can’t change where the simulator starts. It always starts somewhere in Kansas, I assume where the Garmin offices are. The only way to get the simulator anywhere is to ‘fly’ it there, in real time (at up to 999 knots, and that still takes a while). That leads to the second problem: if you leave the simulator to do something else, it doesn’t keep running in the background. It closes down and starts up again when you come back. That wouldn’t be so bad if you could actually start it on the map where you want. How hard is that to add a start-up field that says “Starting Location”? I’ll answer - it’s NOT. It also seems to have some other obscure problems, like “Graphically Edit Flight Plan Mode” which does not seem to operate correctly according to the manual. I have to get back in my airplane and see how the real thing works though to be sure now. But that’s a problem - if you are providing a product that is supposed to TRAIN users on the real thing, you had better make sure you got everything right to avoid negative training!

Does support the 650. This app is a useful learning tool for the GTN series. One point of clarification, this does support the 650. It defaults to the 750, but you can change it in the settings. (Settings App->GTN Trainer)

Please add auto pilot. This simulator is great for learning how to navigate the various screens and button pushing operations of the navigator, but in real life the more difficult problem is learning how the navigator interacts with an auto pilot. It would be great if you would add an auto pilot controller head (GFC 500, 600, 700) along with an annunciation display showing AP, HDG and ALT status. The iPad screen has enough room to fit both a GTN650 and a controller head / status display. Then we could practice approaches, VNAV, SIDs, STARs and enroute procedures with autopilot automation. Way cheaper than going up in the airplane and burning gas. And probably simpler for Garmin than trying to integrate with X-Plane or MSF Flight Simulator. And while you are at it, in addition to the current IAS, HDG and ALT fields at the top of the iPad view, please add fields that show the actual IAS and ALT of the simulated airplane. As it stands, we can command a change in airspeed, heading and altitude using the provided controls, but it takes time for the simulated airplane to achieve the newly commanded inputs. It would be really nice to know what the simulated airplane is actually doing in real time instead of having to guess.

GTN TRAINER. Excellent simulator. Aside from data base age, the simulator behaves exactly like the real unit, great way to learn its use before climbing in your airplane. As a highly experienced Master Flight Instructor with over 8,000 flight hours and thousands of hours in glass, I can vouch for this app unequivocally!

hope they updated the airports. This app has been deceptive for a long time. Avionics shops as well as Garmin sales reps use this ap to sell the GTN product. once you spend tens of thousands of dollars you find out that the smaller airports in the app don’t appear in the GTN. Garmins response is it’s just an app. extremely deceptive especially if you used the database in the app to make a purchasing decision

Garmin GTN Trainer. Great App ! iPad version much more stable than PC version of the GTN trainer !

Junk. I would give it - stars if I could. The problems? (1) the airplane doesn’t start flying the route when you add airspeed and altitude; (2) the airplane’s starting location can’t be moved; and (3) THE MANUAL DOESNT EXPLAIN HOW TO DO THESE THINGS, IF THEY ARE EVEN POSSIBLE! And if they are not possible, what good is the program? Utter junk. Don’t waste your time. It’s pretty much right on the regression line for Garmin.

Perfect training tool. Works exactly like the real box. Great trainer for those new to the GTN boxes.

A great learning aid. It can be tough to learn a new radio and fly the helicopter at the same time. This was a huge help. I was able to learn and practice relevant features so I didn’t have to think about them in the air.

Would like to rate with 5 stars. First, I would like to thank you for the update. There are numerous bugs in this major update needing extermination. Once exterminated, I will be happy to change the review to 5 stars.

Good but needs update.. Please update to GTN ver.5.0 with HTAWS. It would be nice if it was like the $25 version you could buy on cd. Thanks!

Fleeced?. I bought this app months ago, and just recently updated the app. They switched to a "subscription" style payment system without keeping track of the people who already paid under the old method. Feeling ripped off until they fix this.

How can I get this to start at my home airport?. Does anyone know how to get this thing to start off at my home airport instead of KSLE, which is out in Oregon and therefore is irrelevant and immaterial?

OS 11. Hello since I have downloaded OS11this excellent app does not seem to be working Am I missing something? J

X-Plane Integration NEEDED!. As an emulation of a GTN navigator, this app is great. But as an actual training tool, it is extremely limited because the flight simulation is incomplete to the point of being basically useless. What this app needs is an interface to a flight simulator like X-Plane so that you can fly a simulated aircraft and learn how to use the GTN at the same time. What’s especially frustrating about this missing feature is that Garmin definitely knows how to do this. The Garmin Pilot app has this exact mode and it is an indispensable tool for learning how the app responds when you’re in a real cockpit. It simply and easily interfaces over wifi with X-Plane and receives position updates from X-Plane. The same implementation here would improve this app dramatically. If this is an issue about pricing, I’m sure most pilots would be glad to pay for an in-app purchase to add this capability. I certainly would be. Come on, Garmin. You’ve got the know-how and you clearly see the benefit of using flight simulators with your apps to improve the training experience. I’m sure you’ll even sell a few more GTN units if pilots have the ability to try them out on their home simulators first.

Needs to be updated by Garmin. This App is supposed to be used as a training tool for pilots that use Garmin's GTN-750. It is highly irresponsible from Garmin and dangerous for pilots that are using these avionics not to keep the App updated to the latest software version on the avionics themselves. It beats me why Garmin is doing this.

Excellent. This is a superb tool. Wish Garmin had something similar for other equipment. Nonetheless I highly recommend this to anyone installing or considering a GTN system.

Crooks. I was hopeful that this latest update would resolve the ongoing problem of the app not recognizing that I've already purchased it. It doesn't. I paid full price for a product that no longer works and Garmin can't be reached by phone to discuss the issue. From the other reviews posted here, I see that others have been dealing with the same problem for many months. Clearly Garmin is choosing to ignore this fact given that they released a new update yesterday that apparently doesn't resolve the problem. Crooks in my opinion.

Okay trainer needs to be on MacOS as well. Does a decent job of simulating the GTN and useful to teach a student. But this software would be much more useful on my MacBook. iOS is a limited OS and MacOS can run iOS apps. Garmin, please allow you app onto the MacOS App Store.

Best garmin trainer. This is the best way to learn to use the GTN series. Well worth the price tag of the app. Well done Garmin!

What it does, it does well.. I recently started flying an airplane equipped with a GTN 750. Having this trainer saved me a lot of time, money and embarrassment. One thing I’d like to see is a second radio option displayed on the audio panel. Being able to train new users how to switch from one radio to another without needing to turn on the plane’s master switch.

New update is nice. I'm hoping Garmin is working on an update that will allow two iPads connected somehow over or Bluetooth...so we can run GTN trainer on one iPad and TXi trainer on the other and have them work together like in the airplane. Now that would be awesome training!

Warning: app is unusable. Warning: app is unusable. Go find the GTN trainer online for desktop. It is fully functioning with a paired autopilot. Windows for the win!!

Needs 6.5x update. Nice to have when you don’t have access to the PC version but why not keep the iPad and PC versions in sync Garmin? Really want the VNAV support on the iPad. Garmin, please step it up.

No recovery!. Most every feature of the real gtn-750 has been thought of and included in this app, however, the author must have forgotten that it is for use on an iPad or iPhone! Every time the app is minimized, the current session/flight/function is forever lost. Unlike most every other app in the app store, maximizing or reopening this app greets you with the initial welcome screen and the requirement to start fresh. Surely someone will discover and correct that frustrating quirk.

Problems with iOS11. Crashes when opening app. Will start after several attempts. Hope they update to current features.

GTN 650. When I run the GTN trainer program it starts At 51K In CA and will stay as my initial fix even though I delete that fix. How can I permanently delete this fix?

What about the 650. This is a super app. Much more realistic than the pc. I hope a version for the 650 is released soon!

Very useful app for learning the GTN boxes, but.... ...if you browse away from the app for even a second - say, to consult the manual??!, it reinitializes and you lose your flight plan and all inputs. If this were a review of the GTN 750 it would get 5 stars. But this is a review of this app - and it is ridiculous to charge $25 for something with such a huge flaw. The simulator itself would earn 5 stars easily from me if it did not reinitialize every time I switch to another app.

A Handy Trainer. This is essentially the same product available for free at the Garmin site, but having a more portable iPad version is handy. It's very beneficial to explore all the options on the couch when you can really absorb the details. A little pricey, but I say worth the situational awareness. I currently, use the GTN 650.

don't get it!. I bought this app once, and now, after an upgrade, it now does not recognize that I purchased it once already! No way I would pay twice for a trainer that does not have true function. Can't believe they spoofed me into downloading the upgrade. Bret Craytor

App constantly crashes. I have tried using this app over the last couple of years. It appears they’ve been working on it but it still crashes often.

Won’t download or install.. Useless. Will not download or install from app store. Not a connection problem. Able to connect to store and download and update other apps without any issue.

Need the 6.50 or 6.51 update. It would be so nice if we could get the app updated to the actual version that is currently be used. The current version is over a year old.

Doesn’t work at all.. I don’t think Garmin keeps these apps up to date. Seems like forgottenware.

Slick on an iPad mini. You can't beat this for the money. A simulator of this high fidelity, for only 25 bucks. It's a pilot dream! I would gladly pay another $10 in-app purchase for the ability to sync this with X-Plane.

Good Simulator of an average product. The GTN 750 in the real world, looks like something that was designed 10 years ago. With the advent of iPADS and new generation touch screens, these products look old fashioned and the user experience could be better...

Advantageously Flying the Garmin GTN. With the 6.41 version of this trainer when you open it you are presented with a selections screen for Model [GTN 650 or GTN 750], Navigation Database [Garmin (N.America) or Jeppesen (Worldwide)], ☑️ Show Flight Controls, Aircraft Type [Fixed-Wing or Rotorcraft], and Continue. With the flight controls ticked, after pressing the Continue button you are presented with the model that you have selected. Left of the model is the IAS (speed)+&-. Right of the model is the ALT (altitude)+&-. Immediately below the model is the HDG (heading)+&-. To the left of HDG is Track Mode Manual and when pressed replaces HDG with Track Mode Flight Plan. Congratulations Garmin for using +&- controls and not sliders for the flight simulator. Also note that both IAS and ALT commence at zero, and the screen touch equals Apple in sensitivity and accuracy. When you close the trainer and reopen it again, it will still be in the part of the world where you left it last. We have NDB and VOR gauges because we have the corresponding networks that they work with. In my locality that’s not the case with numerous navigation aids being replaced with GPS waypoints. As a consequence of this aircraft and trainers that rely on NDB and VOR for flying and training will experience a gradual degrading of their usefulness. GPS commenced at 2D GoTo, where today with the Garmin GTN trainer and instrument have progressed into the GPS 3D stage with Visual Approach Guidance providing both horizontal and vertical alignment approaches to all sorts of airfields and airports. NOTAMS: All horizontal navigation can be automatic. Visual, LNAV+V, VCALC, and Ascent / Descent are the only Procedures that work vertically automatically. Ascent / Descent will always work vertically automatically with HDG selected, and TRK Mode only if an Arrival HAS NOT BEEN LOADED with an Approach Procedure. You can load an Arrival and use Visual when it activates for the Approach, and you can load an Approach where an Arrival is not available. Think of this one as resetting your altimeter. After you commence descent with VCALC to a target altitude, use ALT to reset it to the target altitude. Also after you commence descent with any of the automatic procedures on approach, use ALT to reset them to the field altitude. For either of these descents the consequence of not resetting ALT is when your Aircraft has finished descending it will climb again. If the topography screen goes black, just touch home and map to reset, also to pause the simulator, enter Demo, NAV, and Time Scale and select 0x -Freeze Position. I am impressed with frequencies identifying in relation to their GPS location, however while in cruise at level altitude I noted a VOR which was within 200 nm had not identified. The workaround I found was to enter Demo, GPS, and Solution. In Solution I selected No SOLN and then received a MSG which I cleared. I then selected Solution again and selected my original setting 3D DIFF, and then returned to the Map where my VOR had identified. I tried this Solution again on an LNAV+V approach and immediately received an APPROACH DOWNGRADE with an LNAV result and numerous TERRAIN icons and warnings. It’s one thing to have a simulation of an instrument only where you can just play with the controls, and another where with a flight simulator, experience dynamic actions and reactions. Regarding reactions, when on an automatic descent and adjusting speed the program immediately reacts by readjusting the angle of descent, and no matter what, you arrive at your target waypoint and altitude together. Programming accuracy can also be seen after you have landed with an automatic approach, zoom in and even with the narrowness of runways your aircraft is dead in the centre of the runway over the centreline. You know this app is free, but if you have not downloaded it yet, it is also free of adds. I suggest when you download this app, you also download from Garmin the “Cockpit Reference Guide”, and the “Pilot’s Guide” for both the 650 and 750 models. In the guide’s front pages there is a title “Product Registration and Support” heading with a table of revisions below where you should find “Updates for software v6.30” is the Guide you require. Flying a Cirrus SR22 at 30000 ft at 500 knots is not exactly realistic, and with this app having a top speed of 990, altitude 99,900 and time scale of up to 15x, Garmin could you please add to this simulator the Turboprop icon (that looks more swept wing than the single engine jet) for a jet and the High-Wing Prop to complete the immersion experience. In conclusion thanks to Jeppesen for graciously providing the Worldwide Navigation Database for this simulator, and Garmin for graciously supplying free of cost a cutting-edge instrument simulator. Happy Flying.

Freeze simulator. Hope the real one is not as bad as the simulator

Missing X-Plane Integration. This Garmin GPS avionic training app is well designed, however, it would get 5 stars if it could connect to X-Plane flight simulator over WiFi like the great Foreflight GPS and flight planning app. Being able to connect to a flight sim enables enhanced situational awareness and proficiency training. If the Garmin GTN trainer app could also integrate with the sim's autopilot, it would be the perfect learning tool for advanced IFR procedures. I look forward to seeing an X-Plane integration in the next update, as well as the possibility to use with the iPad in Vertical (Portrait mode) or Horizontal display mode.

X-plane wifi connections please!. ….

A great $5 investment. After weeks of being unable coordinate a lesson with an instructor, I came across this app. Within a couple hours, I was able to muscle through and get a fairly firm grasp on what I would need to understand for an upcoming flight. I say "muscle through" because there doesn't seem to be any directions. If I had found some, it would be a solid 5 stars. If you want/need to get familiar with the Garmin 650 or 750, GET THIS APP!!! Being able to learn how to operate the 650/750 before flight can be a life saver....literally. Blue skies & tail winds

Don waste your money. The app doesn't works, It is not recognizing that you already paid the insane 25 usd that it costed me. Don't buy this, they are robbing people

310. Don't waste your time or money.

Need one for the 430. Please make one for the GNS430 WAAS. I have your cd but it will not load onto my computer. I would love to have this for the 430. I watched the YouTube video but I would like to do it on my iPad vs. in the plane wasting my batt. Or burning fuel.

Rip off. Bought the app like a lot of these other reviewers and had the app locked out by the "30 day trial" version. Called my credit card company "American Express" gave them the date and confirmation code off the bill and filed a fraud claim. The next week the full amount was returned. Good luck to you my fellow victims, hope this helps you. By the way, never got to use the app, never will buy it again.

Waste. This is a just a 30 day trial. Which is fine but should be mentioned in the description.

Don't buy till fixed!!!. Does not recognize purchase. It's broken. Wait for update.

Supports both 650/750. Nice App and Functional!

Thieves!. I paid $25 for this bogus app initially upon purchase. After 28 days it's telling me that my 'Trial Period' has expired! This is highway robbery and Apple should investigate this! Do NOT buy!

Not for the 650. It only simulates the 750 even tho the description states 650/750. They are enough different Garmin should have both.

Black Screen. Fire up the app, get to the GPS and it’s just a black screen. Doesn’t do anything. lol. It’s unusable.

Thieves. I bought the original release app when I purchased the GTN Equipment. The problem is they updated the app and then said I needed to purchase it again. I contacted Garmin and they sent me a new code, but it was only good for 30 days. If they care to make this right I will give a better rating.

Unacceptable. After recent update, app for which I paid $25 does not work, is asking for another $25. This is complete BS, bordering on fraud. Attempted to contact support, after 15 minutes on hold given a code with no instructions on how to use. This calls for a lawsuit.

Love it. Try before you fly.. Works for me.

Very disappointed!. I bought this app outright for $24.99 last year after purchasing my GTN 750. Garmin switched the payment model to a 30 day trial and in app purchase. My GTN trainer app no longer works. Apple refuses to offer a refund saying all sales are final in the App Store. I'm also waiting for Garmin to fix this problem. Looks like my next avionics purchase may be an Aspen instead of a G500. I truly hope Garmin corrects this mistake...
