Garmin Pilot App Description & Overview

What is garmin pilot app? *30 Days Free Trial on initial download!*

Plan. File. Fly. Log.

Garmin Pilot is the most comprehensive suite of tools for the iPad designed specifically for general aviation and corporate pilots. Flight planning, charts, interactive maps, weather briefing resources and navigation capabilities; it’s all included. The app’s intuitive interface mirrors those on the newest Garmin touchscreen avionics so you can go seamlessly from preflight to inflight.

Plan

Garmin Pilot’s powerful capabilities start with pre-flight planning, providing pilots with the most comprehensive aviation weather information to make better-informed flight decisions. Pilots can check NEXRAD radar, visible and infrared cloud imagery, METARs, TAFs, AIRMETs, SIGMETs, PIREPs, NOTAMs, winds and temperature aloft, TFRs and lightning data. With Garmin Pilot, data can be displayed over Garmin’s interactive maps that support track-up navigation, VFR sectional or an IFR low or high en-route chart to visualize the weather for your route. Add text-based weather widgets and use the exclusive NavTrack feature to view weather along the planned route.

File

With Garmin Pilot, users can easily enter a flight plan and interactively edit it on the map. Pre-loaded forms make it quick to save and reuse data for frequently flown routes. And when the flight plan is ready, Garmin Pilot makes it simple to file, amend or close the flight plan via Leidos Flight Service or DUATS.

Fly

Garmin Pilot provides full en-route navigation capability on its moving map. Pilots can also navigate with Garmin’s patented panel, a GPS-driven instrument pack with a graphical HSI directional display and indicators for groundspeed, altitude and vertical speed. After takeoff, pilots can continue to view real-time weather in the U.S. and traffic information by wirelessly connecting to Garmin’s GDL 39 3D portable ADS-B Receiver (sold separately).

Log

Garmin Pilot includes a comprehensive electronic logbook that syncs with flyGarmin. The logbook automatically generates entries based upon GPS data collected during the flight, tracks currency, supports manual entries, endorsements and creates reports.

Groundspeed Issue - iPad mini 6th Gen. I’ve now purchased two brand new iPad mini sixth gens to no avail. When using this app on an iPad mini 6, groundspeed and track information does not work. I have the app on my iPhone 14 Pro and my very old iPad Air 2, both of which pick up the groundspeed and DTK just fine. Tried every troubleshooting measure out there on these two iPad minis. Nothing worked. Very surprising for a Garmin product but now I have to use ForeFlight. Very disappointed.

More info needed. The app is very friendly and accurate specially using an Athena. It would be much better if the map had an option to display more names of the small towns or cities where you are flying. Maybe it does it but I have not found how. I was advised to use google maps at the same time. Any other advise? Thanks

The one-star reviews are good for a laugh.. They read like they were written by The Hulk. “App bad, Hulk smash.” I have been using Pilot without a single issue for three years. Garmin should have Billy D. Williams be their spokesman, because it works every time. Reading the manual probably helps, too.

Too Many Crashes When Using Trip/Form. I can get this app to crash consistently when entering airports or departure times in the Trip Form. I first reported this bug over a year ago, and it still hasn’t been fixed.

Beats Foreflight. Garmin Pilot was good when it was introduced and gets better with each version. I believe it has surpassed Foreflight in it’s latest releases. The planning is easier, the Home icons are easier for us older aviators, and a great feature for us IFR flyers is the auto-loading of Instrument charts for all airports in your flight plan being automatically loaded for you. I really recommend Pilot over Foreflight when I am giving instrument instruction and have e several converts. I also like how Garmin makes it’t hardware compatible with other programs while Foreflight continues to be proprietary. My students can connect to my GDL device and get all the ADS-B data. Full feature pilot is also a lot less expensive than Foreflight. Being able to run on two platforms and on three devices is also a plus.

MOS & digital atis. Lacking the ability to see digital atis knocks it a star for me as the other apps my work uses has that function and its Awesome- and its something a person looks at every flight. The MOS weather I have found to be absolutely worthless. It’s entirely random in its predictions. Like fog then no fog then fog again within 3 hours or it will say 6 miles-fog Its has literally ruined several trip plans for me using its information. Especially since no real fog was ever in the TAF. Its great for flight planing and filing which is the positive side and its 5 stars for that.

Freezes occasionally while trying to view weather and then won’t open. A little concerning that an aviation app freezes/crashes so frequently. Called support and they told me to use the Restart Option (in main iPad settings) “Switch to Map Page” as a workaround to get it out of the freeze. This worked, but after doing so, the map settings I selected were reset to default and turns out the app “backup” that it does doesn’t include these settings (so restoring the backup is worthless) so I have to redo these every time I have to reboot the app with these settings.

Great Program - How Did I Ever Fly Without It!. Garmin keeps coming up with new features for this program and generally it is bug free. The only downside is that it has gotten so complex that that needs high end iPad with a fast processor to make it run efficiently.

Good app.. I just wanted to bring up an issue I am having while viewing winds aloft forecasts. When I slide the time blocks at the bottom over to a future block to view info, the screen will revert to the default current time block. The screen flickers slightly when it happens. If I am copying wind speeds and directions and dont catch the change I’ll be viewing the wrong info and have to slide back to the time block I was viewing. It seems to do it after about 10-15 seconds of viewing a time block. Otherwise, 5 stars. Maybe something can be fixed in a future update.

Garmin Pilot Review. Garmin continues to add features and improvements to their GP app. Overall this is a very good product. I can only imagine the complexities behind the curtain. This being said, app still drops off line regularly, especially when connected with a 510 card inside the nxi or 3000. I do really like the availability of charts to any airport being at your fingertips. Keep up the good work.

Garmin Pilot is great. I have used it for at least 6 years. Great app. Constantly improving it. Has always had better map readability than ForeFlight, and even with FF’s improved vector based maps Garmin Pilot still is superior. Too numerous to count features. ADS-B weather and traffic works great. I like that they generally add features without adding multiple pricing levels. The only weak area in my opinion is the weather briefing which still just gives an DAA standard briefing, and is the sole reason I keep my ForeFlight subscription. I suspect ForeFlight will improve the preflight weather brief in the future. It even works with my flight simulator that I use to practice instrument approaches.

Not great for VFR planning. I have used runwayHD and SkyDemon and for VFR flying and planning they are far superior, versatile and easy to use than the Garmin App. The simple process of importing and exporting a route between any other app (which is possible on all other apps) is not possible with the Garmin Pilot App. From a user experience point of view the interface is poor. I am disappointed as I have recently installed Garmin equipment in my helicopter and was hoping for an easier integration. They have a closed system approach. One can only hope for improvements ...

Does not beat Foreflight!. Read the other review that this beats ForeFlight. Well...I’m not sure what rock that person came out from other, but no way. Not even close. Garmin Pilot is a great program, and I use it as my backup in case my ForeFlight goes down, and I would be perfectly comfortable using it as my first line nav program— but why would I when I have the full ForeFlight suite. I guess it just boils down to preference. ForeFlight in my opinion is the hands down winner all the way across the board.

Garmin Tactix 7. Can you please add support for the Garmin Tactix 7 that has an aviation suite already in the watch. I traded in my D2 bravo for a garment tactic seven in hopes that I could use it with my Garmin pilot app but I cannot. I would really enjoy it if I could use it and not have to buy another watch.

Better than Foreflight. Easier to use and a MUCH better interface design than FF. Keeps getting better and better! Now with open street maps! Nice! Switched two years ago and no regrets.

New IPad Pro. The downloads are incredibly fast. So many new features have been added that wouldn’t work on my 7 year old iPad

Briefing & Maps A+, Cockpit use ability C (font). The planning side of GP is now great with the recent additions of visual notams, graphical TAFS and the magical upgrade to Leidos briefing. The in-cockpit size of fonts and buttons is completely unusable especially when fumbling for approach plates in IMC. The fix is simple - when then pilot completes preflight and briefing and clicks FLY or Navigate mode, the HMI interface of the software should become exactly like the GNS. This would solve the basic issue that all us pilots have with GP. It’s so close to being the perfect pilot app.

Contiously developing app with strong support. If you own your own aircraft with bunch of Garmin touch screen units then go for it, if you fly someone else’s plane then use other app like sky demon , wing x. ForeFlight is for commercial use, especially if you collect fuel points.

Unresponsive team. I’ve had a GP subscription since it first came out. I pair it to a flight stream for interaction with my avionics. For several years I’ve requested a feature with the team via email and in person at Oshkosh regarding the loading of waypoints. If an approach is loaded the GP App stops navigating at the first fix. I also have FF and it seamlessly loads all the fixes through the flight stream. If a non Garmin app can do this why can’t Garmin? Also the WX imagining section no longer offers things like winds aloft. It started off strong years ago but seems to be slipping by the wayside. For the first time I’m considering not renewing

Long time garmin app user. I have been using this app since it came out. Garmin is awesome at keeping this app current. This is the app to use for flight planning and in the cockpit assistance. It is super user friendly and can be used in rough weather. I believe this is the most pilot friendly app for flight planning and actual in cockpit usability. You need to keep buying new iPads as they come out because the software is pretty heavy. It is packed with horsepower and every two to three years the processors can’t keep up. I have an iPad Pro that’s a year old and does great.

Poor and sluggish Rendering Performance. Using high end iPad Mini 4. one generation before the current. Reset to manufacture settings to remove fragmentation to make it fast again. Yet rendering performance of Garmin Pilot is poor. Maps take sometimes 5 seconds or longer to render, sometimes track of plane jumps a mile due to lag. Touch sometimes takes many seconds before reacting. It also crashed, albeit ForeFlight crashes as well. Flight planning not as intuitive as ForeFlight. Default VFR map color scheme is way too over saturated. Unless one also invests in the latest iPad Mini 4, performance is unacceptable.

Works great with iPhone as well. So, obviously this app works best on iPad. However, I’m just a lowly private pilot who flies a Cherokee on the weekends with a tight budget to boot. As such, I don’t really want to keep and maintain an iPad as well as my iPhone. Therefore, I just use my 11 Pro Max. Works a charm and suits my needs perfectly.

New version not as user friendly. With the latest updates, flight planning is difficult. It’s not nearly as user friendly as it used to be. The familiar user environment to the flight deck products and 760 was what kept me using it. Now I find it difficult to navigate and to create a flight plan and manage it. It feels very buggy.

A job well done. After falling in love with the gorgeous interface, maps, safetaxi, it was so difficult to leave. For a while, Garmin Pilot lacked some basic functionality that wasn’t an absolute dealbreaker, but was occasionally frustrating. The release of 10.2 was the final nail that finished the app. I can’t find a single detail I don’t like anymore. Consider this a job well done. This is better than other competitors in every way.

Please Add Cabin Altitude & Warning. We’re all too familiar with examples of fatalities due to loss of cabin pressure and hypoxia in nominally pressurized aircraft. As a golfer, Payne Stewart always comes to my mind, but there unfortunately are many others. Many of our onboard devices running Garmin Pilot include an atmospheric pressure sensor. For example, both my Samsung Galaxy S7 and my iPad Mini IV include built-in pressure sensors. Garmin Pilot could easily, I believe, include a cabin altitude (pressure) monitoring function to alert the pilot if cabin altitude exceeds FAR requirements for supplemental oxygen. As an example, please see the iOS app called AvAltimeter by Aviametrix, which has some good features, but only runs in the background and won’t update pressure altitude unless it is “brought up”. Garmin Pilot Development Team - Beat FF with this enhancement to your already fantastic software! Please help save lives!

Newest Update makes it unsafe to use. The newest update has rendered this app useless at best, dangerous if you do not carry backup paper charts. There is no longer airport information, it will not open when selected and you cannot even get to it in the radial menu. I cannot load any airport information even if I am using WiFi. Garmin really needs to rest their updates before sending them out, fortunately I caught the issue before I got in the air. For a product that has worked well I am thoroughly disappointed, and will not renew my subscription should these issues not be addressed.

Blows Foreflight out of the water!. The new update effectively blows Foreflight out of the water! Garmin pilot has integrated everything within the app seamlessly making for a very user-friendly product. Everything is easy to read and find within the app and the updated map makes it even better.

Doesn’t beat Foreflight vector maps are worthless. I have been a long time user of both Garmin and Jeppesen. Things I like, easy flight plan changed when IFR that can be quickly sent to my gps. There things I don’t like: VFR vector maps do not have topo lines. Also VFR corridors available on TACs through class B are not available anywhere. Jeppesen VFR vector maps not available. Things I don’t like about the IFR maps: Garmin vector maps are worthless. No minimum crossing altitude points available, no VOR radial information for victor airways, MEA’s missing on some victor airways, (these are the ones I know of) and Jeppesen IFR maps not available, only the approach plates are available.

Love the app- better than FF/FlyQ. I have used this app for well over 10 years, and to me it is the most user friendly of all. Generally intuitive, graphically and functionally superior to competitors. One issue-several updates ago, (a couple of years, actually) the winds aloft text began using lat/long instead of station ID. I have searched thru settings, but can’t seem to change over. It is frustrating to have to consult my “stand by” app to get understandable winds aloft info ONLY. Any clues out there?

If it would not go blank, it would be great.. Has great features but goes blank often, usually at the most inopportune time. A friend has foreflight and it never goes blank. I have the latest iOS on an iPad mini 6th gen and have deleted and reloaded the app several times and it still crashes. I am using on trial subscription that runs out in a few weeks. If the problem is still occurring I will opt for foreflight.

Exceptional software. I find Garmin Pilot functions well, and I give it high marks for user customization — however, an attribute that I feel also makes it less "intuitive", with a somewhat steeper learning curve than FF. While users can generally find they can "jump right in" to Foreflight, Garmin's Pilot took me a day or so before I reached the "aha!" moment. (True, I admittedly had to "unlearn" FF to embrace Garmin's logic.) So the winner is? For the occasional pilot and "weekend warrior" (which there are many),the hat-tip goes to software producer ForeFlight. However, for the operator with an eye towards integrating existing and future hardware additions in the vast and continually expanding Garmin "eco-system", without question, it's Garmin's Pilot.

Garmin pilot is very feature rich. I’ve tried both foreflight and Garmin and I will say the Garmin pilot app is much more feature packed and makes for seamless flight planning when using a Garmin gps equipped aircraft. I will only fly with Garmin

Great App, Minor things I wish we could add. Great app, my school provides subscriptions for free which has really enhanced my training. The only thing I wish is that we could insert into the Chart books/section the respective airport's Chart Supplement page and the Cold Temperature Correction page/table. Those items are critical when flying instrument and preparing the approach, and being unable to have access to those documents within Garmin and in the same section as the Charts is an issue/hindrance I would be quite concerned about if I were to rely on GarminPilot when I actually am working as a commercial pilot one day.

So disappointing. I bought a plane with perspective + and garmin pilot was designed to work seamlessly with updates and flight plan exchange. When the program doesn’t crash it can exchange flight plans with the panel but it’s a few swipes and clicks more than ForeFlight. The updating of databases... SSSSUUUUUKKKKSS. after you set it up which took me 4 hours... I had to create multiple accounts with 3rd parties then activate them to work properly. Then pair Bluetooth and WiFi. Then download lots of stuff then enable. I’ve had to do this several times as the app is glitchy. The database concierge is very confusing and has worked only a few times. I don’t even try anymore. I just use the cards. I’ve had the app crash on me many times. Brand new iPad. Brand new download. Tried it on multiple iPads. Crash. Crash. Crash. Honestly... it’s horrible. Sorry. I love garmin aviation. But the app, despite some clever interfaces and ideas, is totally unreliable, clumsy and confusing.

Better than foreflight IMO. Love the fact that this app has downloaded street maps which is crucial for me when flying at night just in case I need to land on a road. Foreflight doesnt have this feature and so I switched to garmin

Great App!. I’ve loved using this app over the past year. More affordable and more functional than other competitor apps. However, is there any chance of getting a Apple Watch companion app/complications? That would be even better!

Used it for 4 years now. I’ve been using this FB for 4 years and like it a lot, only issue I have that has not been addressed in any of the updates is how terrible the document download is, every new version for some reason there will always be one file (the tpp for me on version 10) that will forever be stuck loading and there is no way for me to know if it’s downloading it at all.

Best EFB. I tried trial versions of FF and Garmin Pilot and I preferred this one over the other. The dynamic map looks great and the features are easy to use with lots of functionality. If you’ve use any garmin products that this’ll be familiar. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Commercial Ag Pilot. I have both Garmin Pilot and ForeFlight and feel Garmin Pilot is far more user friendly in terms of the user interface. Which carries over well with other Garmin flight decks. However, I REALLY wish Garmin would incorporate a satellite map overlay as Ag and many helicopter pilots operate with reference to physical landmarks on the ground. I feel if Garmin had this feature they would be “hands down” best in the business.

Too dim to see in cockpit. I have a iphone 13 pro and shortly after take off in my rv-9, which has a bright cockpit, the screen will dim so much that the app unusable. I've tried changing or adjusting every possible setting to no avail. I don't know if Garmin is at fault or apple but this combo simply does not work in bright environments.

Only one complain. Would like for then to open up the software to allow status ads-b compatibility. It would help them be more competitive with Foreflight. I might switch once my subscription is up.

V10.7. A very good update. But they removed all of the intersections/fixes for some reason. Some of the primary ones are in there but for routing purposes, and feeding them into aircraft the GPS you have to guess or create your own waypoint. There’s not even a suggestion of the closest ones. Still needs a profile view for approaches.

If it had my checklist. I am trying hard to use only one app, but without the Checklist for my Cessna 182T I cannot let go of ForeFlight. I know I could type it all by hand one day, but... otherwise I like Garmin Pilot a lot. The other thing I would need not to open FF (or think about dropping it) would be the ability to email Briefing. So, egocentric wish list: 182T checklist and Brief email.

It’s ok, but not as good as others. I use Garmin in my plane and would like to continue to use Pilot for consistency, but somethings are just irritating. Weather in Garmin pilot is not as good as the GPS or other equipment. Just cumbersome to navigate options. Airport information is not clearly shown and you have to go through tabs to get basic info. They have a navigation and planning mode that’s very irritating. More things to click around when you are flying. Overall it’s not a bad product, but the flow and overall feel of the use is not even close to other options in the market. And by the way, many of this issues are recently added options that has regressed the development of the product.

Nice app but not great for VFR. Mostly I really like it. Would be nice if the app could cater for different altitudes for the programmed legs of the flight. VFR pilots often need to change altitude to avoid controlled airspace and currently this app only lets the user set one altitude for the entire flight. I have to have SkyDemon installed as well just to cater for this issue as SkyDemon incorporates this feature. I also find that Garmin Pilot is missing a lot of the smaller airfields in South Africa compared to others. Would be nice if we could add them either manually or submit a request.

Love it but.... Great app, have been using it for a while and it is an excellent tool! Having said that I live in Guatemala and there are a lot of map issues and waypoints that are in the wrong place, would love to be able to edit them and have them be in their correct place also be able to add airports that are not in the database, private runways. Aside from this love the app!! Hope you can fix the issues

Garmin Pilot is awesome. I’ve been using the app on my iPad for years. Always reliable and the support is excellent. The support team is eager to listen to suggestions and is very approachable at airventure.

Cant file flight plan. It doesnt load fuel burn estimates, doest provide ETE. Trips generate random error messages making it impossible to file a flight plan. Wasted 2 days and several hours of lost flight time trying to figure this out. The overall flight planning features just seem very clunky overall. You have to scroll down to search for missing required info that isnt available in the flight plan tab. And the names are backward. The tab where you file your flight plan they call “trips” and the flight planning they call “flight plan” even though thats not where you actually file your flight plan. I dont understand why these are two separate tabs. The full flight plan and filing process should be on one tab that includes everything including w&b. Im at my wits end trying to figure out this app. Gonna try a different app or just file plans over the phone

Doesn’t work on older iPads. I have had this app for a few years now and it worked fine until apple went to iso10 now the app won’t work on anything less that a 10 running machine. Called them up and they blame my “old” equipment The techs are really worthless and know nothing about bug fixes so needless to say you pay them $75 for a worthless app. Very disappointed that a company this big can’t get their s..t. Together

Garmin Pilot. Love it especially the information wheel around an airport!!! Easy to use, best information, do my trip planning on my phone, good customer service. The only negative is if you have three gps devices two G3X, Aera 660, and Garmin Pilot App, the annual fees, are $150 each device. I think they should have no charge, on the 3rd device…. Just saying! What do you think?

Perhaps the best EFB out there but lacking maps data. Any plans to add FIA frequency data to Australian maps and Country Strip Guides to make usable for Australian market? Integration with Airservices Australia's NAIPS service for flight logging would also be essential for Australians.

Awesome!. The best app on the market once you get used to using it.

Needs Maps. Love the interface as it makes it a very user friendly app. However, until maps are available for Australia, I think pilots will spend money on other alternatives that do provide up to date charts. Will look at purchasing when charts are available for Australia.

Canadian Plates. Plates are not up to date as valid period has expired even though they saw this is how they do it. No VNC or WAC charts for Canada This is not a Flight Bag as no current charts and expired plates. Not worth the price

Good, But Not Great. Garmin Pilot is great for maps and charts, integrates well with my Garmin avionics, and I overall enjoy the app. I do have a few beefs though. 1) I can’t file VFR flight plans in Canada 2) Time fields in the log book are wrong. If I were Garmin, I’d be embarrassed about this. They don’t seem to know the difference between air time, and flight time. Also, the total time field doesn’t automatically calculate after entering Time Out and Time In unless you know the secret trick. 3) Aircraft setup for flight planning aren’t associated with aircraft for the log book. 4)PDF files like CFS pages used to open in an external app like Adobe for reading. They now open within GP, which doesn’t do as good of a job. I find there’s too much overhead around the documents on small screens, which hinders readability.

Useless if you’re Canadian. Can’t file a VFR flight plan in Canada. I called Garmin support and they confirmed these are the rules. Canceling my subscription now. What is the point of this? We fly VFR in Canada all the time… bizarre. Get it together Garmin.

No Class E Airspace. **Update** Garmin has in the last few days added the Class E airspace back on both the Garmin Pilot and Portables. Thank you very much! I will be renewing my Garmin Pilot subscription in February!!**** Since Garmin decided to remove Class E Airspace from not only Garmin Pilot but my Garmin 796, I will be switching to ForeFlight. In Canada there are lots of MF Class E Aerodromes and not having that information available on a paid subscription is useless in my mind. I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on map and chart upgrades and subscriptions with Garmin over the last two years and now will need to switch to another provider. I spoke with a Garmin tech support guy today and he agrees and says there is no fix in sight for this. He doesn’t know why they removed it. I wish I wouldn’t have updated my 796 as the Airspace was on the old maps. Aside from that I love both products but I want to be able to see all Airspace not just C and D. I’m assuming that since Class E Airspace with MF are not common in the US that this is why they removed it?

Fee. I really wish we could be a one time fee only not a yearly subscription

Missing ability to import waypoints. Please add ability to import GPX and/or CSV waypoint files.

Class E airspace now shown.. Now having the inclusion of class e airspace again is very helpful...

Crashes. I’m stuck with an older version because I got an older iPad I can’t update. Garmin pilot keeps on crashing and I can’t do anything with it.

Need Support for Garmin GPSMAP66i. Love to use the Garmin Pilot app and was really looking forward to paring my Garmin GPSMAP66i in reach with it like the Explorer+. Unfortunately looks like it hasn’t been added to the apps support! Really was hoping to use the GPS capability with the Garmin Pilot app to act as an external GPS receiver. Can’t for the life of me understand though why the GPSMAP66i which is basically a better more updated version of the Explorer+ doesn’t have the same support or connectivity... Please Garmin add the software support for the GPSMAP66i!

Canadian content. More Canadian content please. ForeFlight is way ahead in this area. Thks Dave

Craft page in scratch pad not working.. Ever since the update, anytime I try to write on the CRAFT page in scratch pad it is as if the one lags and it doesn’t take any of my inputs. It only starts once you lift the pen. Very inconvenient

Easy to use. The split screen feature with various options saves a lot of page switching time. (5th gen 9.7inch iPad). The problems I have with the app so far: 1. The CFS is not directly available in a split screen widget. It would be great if CFS pages are provided as a Widget, or as part of the Airport Info widget. 2. The "Clouds" overlay cannot be turned off after it is turned on. 3. VNC edges are not aligned perfectly. For example, Bella Coola airport (CYBD) is completely invisible.

Meh. Good, I guess for fixed wing. Unacceptable for VFR rotary wing.

Great app. I really love this app, my only wish is that i would be able to do a learning or some kind of seminars to learn how to use this better. It is really advanced and you can really do everything! Just takes some time to know how to use it. Otherwise i am very satisfied.

Very functional. A very good app. The only problem is that you do not support any third party ADS-B in receivers. You only support your own product. That is a real shame and that is the reason why I did not renew my subscription. If you start to support third party ADS-B receivers, I would re-subscribe.

Polished!. Looks much better than it did last year. I think I’ll be buying a subscription this time. Nice to see it so polished.

Good weather functionality. I'm a storm spotter, not a pilot, but this app has the best satellite imagery, international radar data, global lightning data, and other useful stuff. Has location labels on top of weather data unlike most other apps which is very useful. Just wish borders were also on top.

Perfect app. Has all u need including georeferenced plates for much cheaper price. Love it

Why does Garmin feel the need to change the menus around - again. Just stop. It worked before. And I knew where things were. Now I’m having to relearn how to use it all over again. Maddening to open it up and have to go looking for stuff that used to be second nature.

Beats ForeFlight And others. I’ve used WingX and ForeFlight side by side for years with Garmin Pilot. I can now say with confidence that Garmin Pilot is far more robust and my go to flight planner and backup synthetic vision solution. Bravo Garmin.

Buggy in a place it can’t afford to be. I spent a couple of hours editing checklists tonight only to have Garmin Pilot randomly delete them on the completion of a “checklist sync.” Super disappointing.

Too expensive for what you get. This is a joke of an app. Tried it and it has the worst interface. Going to iFly.

Version 11 issue. I note Garmin Pilot crashes on both my iPhone and iPad if I select a USA surface analysis chart. Garmin is very good about fixing bugs when they are discovered.

App gps isn’t current.. When I fly, even at low altitudes. My gps is always off. No it’s not my iPad, because ForeFlight tracks it well. So what’s the issue here?

Great. I have been flying for a long time. This makes it too easy to plan flights and navigate.

Can’t even get started.. Can anyone say buggy? Fields are on top of each other, prefilled info is wrong. It can’t use database already in existence. Seems like Garmin is too big and just hasn’t paid attention to detail.

Jeff. Works perfectly

Broken. Latest update is broken. App will not run. Nothing but a black screen when it launches.

Latest update crashed the app. Just updated and it crashed the app. All I have is a black screen now.

Thanks for nothing Garmin. Updated Garmin Pilot in iPhone. Got in the air. Got a message stating “setting up GaminPilot 1/3” and needed WiFi connection. Great unusable when needed. On the ground now, connected to WiFi, and the same message, even after rebooting the uPhone. Wondering if Foreflight is the way to go, or am I just wrongly angry that I expect the GPS app to work. Same issue in the air with the iPad, but it set up on the ground after connecting to WiFi. I can’t believe a Garmin update does not go to completion. I’m glad I take my 496 with me.

Killing Battery. App is staying open somehow after force closing in my iPhone. Keeps draining my battery

Won't let me create account. The app will not allow me to create an account for my iPad, iPhone or on a computer. I've tried this for over 24 hours and it will not allow me to click the "create account" button. I bet foreflight will gladly take my money...

Love the recent changes. I fly C182T G1000 and am loving how Pilot works more and more like the avionics I use.

Just a Sim Pilot. I’m just a sim pilot... it would be awesome to have a plan that somehow just work for use with flight simulation. I’d give a 5 if there were some more consideration for that. I really do like the app.

In—app purchase is broken. No subscription goes through and when you call support they tell you not use in app purchases. What’s the point of offering them ? Way to work around around Apple 30% cut?

Split screen. Can you make your app iPadOS split screen capable?

Radial menu problem. Great app... but, this morning the radial menu quit working on my iPad and iPhone... possible problem with the recent update? Not sure where to go for support?

unreliable trip plans. When entering a DC SFRA flight plan, the departure and exit gate (or entry gate and destination) are randomly overwritten with default values. It usually happens when I switch to a different plan, whatever gate I have entered is replaced with some other value. Can't trust this app for filing DC SFRA.

Some function are not working properly. iPhone 7 Some functions are not working properly. Please fix Profile view. After loading altitudes constraint on flight plan nothing changes on profile view.

Weather Issues. I had no complaints the first two years as a user, however this is no longer the same. Rarely now am I able to get METARs and TAFs to load. No weather appears on the map. Very frustrating as I pay for this service yet I have to go find it online still.

Unreliable. During an instrument flight yesterday, this app crashed every 15 seconds. Approach plates could not be loaded as a result. Upon contacting product support, I was told: “it’s an app, it’s going to crash.“ Think twice before depending on this app to get you through anything but a clear VFR day. Apparently, there is a known glitch in the software with the iPad 3 running the current iOS.

Won’t accept all routes. PIA035 V10 PLANO DPA Preferred route from Peoria to Chicago DuPage airport. Garmin flight plan will not accept this preferred route. I would like to file this route so I can get cleared as filed and not a full route clearance.

Perfect compliment to the g1000. I’ve used the app for years now and love how it’s similar in design to my Garmin cockpit. The gdl 52 really makes this app powerful and I wouldn’t fly without it.

A test version crashes my iPad. I’ve owned the app for a couple years with no real problem. Loaded the update and it locks up. Totally unusable

Frustrating my head to learn. Not as straight forward as ForeFlight . But has some more features I like. transitioning from FF after using it for 80hours

Great value. Just I learned, how to use. More for your dollar.

Great with But. It’s a great and useful app. My only concern is that there is no option of adding and fly to a set coordinates.

App Human Interface Dessign. The app is very user friendly.

Go to ForeFlight. Sick and tired of the app being so unstable. Then we are told do not upgrade to iOS 11!? They have had months to get this ready. I want my money back so I can use an app that works!

When it works it’s great. I love this app but the pre-release testing is inadequate. Every few updates it crashes nonstop and I have to remove the app from my iPhone or iPad and reinstall along with downloading all the data. I’ve never had this issue with FF. This is a serious problem with something I’m spending real money on!

iOS14. When will be the update release for the iOS 14? Any clues on dates? Got use it to fly next week! Thanks

W&B. I have honestly tried for over an hour to put the fuel into the configure category to complete the W&B for a kingair 350i. I have no idea what y’all are wanting in order to complete this tab. I have tried every combination. I cannot “save station” even though I have put the fuel in many times. I am at a loss. Without W&B it is of no use to me.

10 years. I downloaded garmin pilot yrs ago….like 10 ish. Did not open it to try. 30 day trial goes by without me using. And still 10 years latter, no trial option. Now that I am flying a lot more, sure would be nice to give it a try without dropping $

Great app. I’d give it 5 stars, but from time to time it refuses to launch on the iPad Pro.

Version 9.4.3 Bug Report. Flight Conditions display option on map weather overlay is not working, all other options OK.

Awesome. Awesome app . Never had any issue .using it since last 3 yrs. new iOS update is nice and clean. And this pilot app is cheap compare to other app out there . I trust Garmin over any other app.

Winds Aloft causing Crash. On my updated iOS device the app crashes every time I select Winds Aloft from the Airport Info wheel after tapping an airport from the Map view. Other than that, good update.

Much better than Foreflight. Hands down better than other navigation apps.

Updates. Great app but slow to react to problems. App crashes constantly within seconds of opening as of latest update and iOS update on iPhone X.

EIS data not working. EIS Data m Not working. I don’t even have the option to turn it on. Tried tech support they were no help.

Keeps crashing ever 10 second. Can’t use the app at all. Was working like a champ for months and suddenly within the last 2 weeks it started crashing every 10 second haven’t been able to use the app for 2 weeks now. Please address this issue and fix it.

11.1.3 Flight plan..route..menu problem.. Most menu items missing. Can’t invert/reverse route.

don't try. Trial doesn't do anything except force the user to create a Garmin account and buy a subscription. I was expecting a map or something else to try, but got nothing. Even Help doesn't load. Is this the expected behavior of the trial mode or did the app get broken in this version? Back to Foreflight for another year...

Can’t imagine needing more. Beyond expectations in what it does.

Great. Fantastic and getting better on each version

Very useful and convenient. This app is really convenient to use on the ground and in flight.

Update is crashing. Update crashes every time the widget split screen opens!

Please wait! Garmin Pilot app comments loading...
