Decibel X:dB Sound Level Meter App Description & Overview

What is decibel x:db sound level meter app? "Decibel X" is one of very few noise meter apps on the market that has highly reliable, pre-calibrated measurements and supports dBA, dBC. It turns your iOS device into a professional sound level meter, precisely measures the sound pressure level (SPL) all around you. This extremely useful and beautiful tool will not only be a great tool for many uses but also bring you a lot of fun. Have you wondered how quiet is your room or how loud is a rock concert or sport event? "Decibel X" will help you answer all of those.

WHAT MAKE IT GREAT AND STAND OUT FROM OTHER APPS:

- Trusted accuracy: the app is tested and pre calibrated for all Apple devices. The precision is matching with real SPL devices

NOTES:

- Please do not expect a quiet room reading will be 0 dBA. The range 30-130 dBA is the standard usable range and an average quiet room will be about 30 dBA.
- Although all devices are pre-calibrated, custom calibration is suggested for serious purposes requiring higher precision and accuracy. You will need a real external device or calibrated sound meter as a reference, then adjust the trimming calibration until the reading matches with the reference.

Used to be excellent but now…. This app used to be exactly what I wanted, a simple, easy to use decibel meter with different weightings and a visualizer to see the heaviest frequencies. Paid the one time for the full ad free app and went about my time. But just recently when I used the app, it didn’t let me play music at the same time as using the app, meaning I can’t measure the music being played in my car through my phone. I was spammed with messages to upgrade to some $4.99 a month subscription for idk what and to rate the app. So I have now. The dosimeter addition seems really nice but have yet to try it. I’m sure it works great but I paid money for this app and I’m upset I’m being bombarded with messages to pay a subscription.

Very Good, With One Quibble.... I’ve used a couple sound meter apps over the last few years along with a commercial quality sound level meter. I would put this up there with the best of what I’ve used. This review is for the purchased, “pro” version of the software. That I can pay $4.99 and use the processing capabilities of my iPhone in leu of spending $150+ on a professional, stand-alone meter blows my mind. The level of detail shown in the various portions of the screen offer a broad range of information to the user. You get both numerical and graph output as well as dial analog output of minimum and maximum readings, duration, etc. One quibble is that when I pause the meter and reset it, it asks if I really want to, which is okay, but immediately restarts the sound reading, even if I don’t want it to. Also, I’d like for a reset to take the meter back to “0”. It restarts at the prior average. I would like to see these twin issues corrected, and I’d then give the app 5 stars.

Excellent. We live in a nice place, but have highway sound issues. So I contemplated buying an expensive sound meter to analyze the situation, but found that Decibel X on my iPad Pro does the job just as well or better. I gladly bought the full version. There are three things I’d like to see, the first easy, the other I am not sure are possible: 1) Add db labels to the Y axis in playbacks 2) Might it be possible to switch between db weightings in playback? 3) Might it be possible to display a curve that shows the AVERAGE of all db samplings of a recording at each Hertz range, with adjustable sampling intervals?

Useful and frequent updates. I have used the paid app for several years in restaurants and music venues to help control my exposure to harmful sound. The app is easy to use and informative. The app is frequently updated with features and themes. Version 7 cleaned up and enlarged everything with large fonts. I haven’t used the camera feature.

dB Meter. This app found its way on my phone 4 years ago and although it wasn’t the best performing app at the time, I didn’t replace it. It worked adequately for my needs. Today November 2019, the dB Meter is quite improved and I can recommend it to all who have a need for such a device. Basically, a dB phone meter is at the mercy of it’s ability to interact with the mic on the phone. IMO, the makers of this app have sorted this issue. I’m on an iPhone 8 currently.

Outstanding App!. I use this to monitor our church services during praise and worship. It has been very helpful in determining hot spots in our sanctuary as well as tune or room with correct speaker arrangement. This them allowed us to eliminate or greatly reduce the hot spots in our sanctuary. A more consistent sound level prevents the desire to just pump music at a higher level. Higher decibels doesn't improve sound it just makes the problem worse. I would suggest this app for anyone needing a highly accurate decibel meter.

Pleasantly surprised. I have a hand held sound pressure level (spl) meter, which I pull batteries out of between each use as it could be months in between uses. I’ve shared with flight attendants, construction workers, etc when the issue of noise in work environment came up. They were quite surprised something so capable of providing real time information was available. One suggestion I have is to identify what weighting scales, A, B and C are each utilized. Perhaps provide explanation of all and access to one within basic service. Want option to use/change among others and that might be offered through a higher tier (chargeable) offering. Might be interesting to know the frequency range (cycles) as well.

My usage of the app. Provided the app is calibrated properly when you set it up, it’s pretty accurate in isolated areas like calibrating a turn table or checking a receiver for accuracy. However, a bunch of unrelated sounds events taking place at the same time throws the app off. Instead of giving you an average for the space you’re in, it just fluctuates based on individual sounds it picks up. For example, I value my hearing because I’m a musician. When I go to loud concerts I wear earplugs. At a recent Korn concert I wanted to decide if I was far enough away that I wouldn’t damage my hearing or leave the venue with ringing ears. I tried the app, but I got numbers from people talking behind me, the band, clapping, so I wasn’t able to get an accurate reading. The meter jumped from 50db to 80db at a Korn concert where I was about 100 feet from the stage. While it wasn’t hitting over 100db or heaven forbid 120db, I chose to wear earplugs and I was the only one in my group to not leave with ringing ears. In summary, the app is really great for isolated spaces, but it has trouble handling multiple sounds from multiple sources and giving you a stable number to work with. I don’t recommend it for harm reduction at a concert event, but I do recommend it for checking your speaker levels, calibrating your receiver, or anything audio related that is in a quiet testing area.

Amp saver. I was never impressed with my Denon 5.1 sound. I ran the auto set up multiple times with the small microphone in different viewing areas. After reading an article, I used this app, along with physical distances of each speaker to the viewer. Wow, day and night. Much better surround sound. My understanding is to bring all speakers to an equal level by adjusting the individual dbl of each speaker on the amp, using this app to measure the output. I had to lower the front to match the rear, however you can increase the volume once you are done balancing your system.

Pro video feature fails. The main feature I was looking for when I paid for this app was the ability to overlay the decibel info over video. This app does that but promises that with the Pro version you can record videos longer than 15 seconds. There is a glitch that doesn’t allow this even after you pay for the app. It just keeps operating like you need to subscribe to Pro and cuts off after 15 seconds. Disappointing and frustrating for the needs I purchased it for.

It has everything you would want and more!. I have only had this app for less than a day and I really like it. It has many features like recording an average or keeping a list of recordings that even purpose built noise meter devices often lack. I’d rate it six stars if I could.

DB meter for pro use. I am a full-time professional audio engineer. I have run sound for a virtual who’s who in rock ‘n’ roll R&B, blues, funk, Motown, bluegrass, and for the most part country. I am currently working for a band that are Sony recording artist. The decibel meter does exactly what it should and does it well. I have paid many times this price for DB meters in the past that We’re just as accurate but nowhere near as convenient. This one is always at arms length when I need it … i’ve been using it for a year or so and I am submitting this review just to let you guys know how convenient, easy and accurate this app is to use. JTJ

Nice app glad it’s fixed.. Press “Restore Purchases” every time I want to use an app that I paid for, or agree to a subscription??? Just annoying. But it looks to be fixed now. So that’s good. Accuracy seems reasonable, and I actually like the unweighted option. Also helpful to confirm that my kid is super loud and my stereo isn’t, which validates my position in a long standing family debate.

Pressure. I was trying to find the reason my pressure had increased. It’s the noise level that decibels was able to capture that can not be seen but can affect the human hearing and blood pressure. Now I have some data to share with my doctor that may be the cause of my pressure increase and I can share with ATT to get the white noise coming into my home cancelled.

New version works on XS MAX. Developer responded to notify me that the new version works on the XS MAX. Glad to say it does. Unfortunately, the one time I needed it in months and months, was before it was fixed. Oh well, it’s a great utility though and nicely laid out. I can’t stand the ad header though. Holding back Pro features is fine, but I detest “ad removal” ransom on any app. This is mainly because it’s a distraction from the UX and, hopeful, thoughtful design that developers have poured into their apps...only to have them butchered by some ugly banner flying over part of their work.

Awareness of loud sounds. I was not aware how important my hearing was to me till my daughter, whom is a doctor brought to my attention about my hearing. she mentioned to me I don’t seem to be hearing so well. It dawned on me that at work. I work with a lot of loud machine (I’m a cook). I proceeded to looked up a free Doppler to help me judge sounds around me. It’s important to me that I keep my hearing about me, well into my 90’s., if I live that long. I carry w/ me now at all times ear plugs for my safety! Thank goodness for the free Doppler device!

Free Magic. To paraphrase another reviewer, even the free version blows my mind. I always thought it would be cool to be able to measure sound pressure levels in cars at various speeds to compare with those reported in car magazines, but could never justify the $250 for a real device. To have this capability for free is just magical.

Good Idea, one suggestion. This is a good app, does exactly what its supposed to. It ranks the decibels in what space you would hear them at, for example a quiet whisper or home, a subway, food blender, or even rocket launch. I would recommend this app even though I don’t use very much at all.(No pressing need to know the decibels I’m hearing ever) My one suggestion is to add facts about our hearing, like when a human would lose their hearing or hear ringing. It has the threshold of hearing labels on the chart, but more facts like that would be nice.

Greed at it’s finest. While the app is usable, the forced subscription model for premium features is a corporate cash grab. I’ve paid a good amount for professional sound software and would have no issue with paying a flat fee to unlock features, as I’ve done with other apps; however, the slow bleeding of the consumer is a joke. If I can’t pay a simple, singular, unlock fee, I’m not interested in being milked on a monthly or yearly basis. It’s not like this app provides updated monthly content, like a Netflix or Showtime app does. It simply unlocks features. Stop trying to cheat your customer base.

Won’t use much now since Ad’s were added. I’ve had this app for several years & would use it occasionally. But I doubt very seriously that I’ll use it much now because each time when you begin a new listening session or “recording” as they call it, you’re forced to sit thru a 5 sec Ad. & that blows so badly, that it’s very likely that I won’t ever use it again. But prior to that occurring after this last update, circa. late ‘20, I liked using the app fairly well. Now? Not so much.

A good sound decibel measuring app. This sound app is sensitive to echo the normal range sound source. But it seemed not to be able to detect ultra low frequency between 1Hz to 10Hz and also seemed not sensitive to high frequency range between 15KHz to 22KHz. Especial cannot detect those weak or strong harmful sound energy such as infrasound or high-frequency high energy sound energy. If this app can build warning alarm sound inside the app and respond to those harmful sound energy, it will be great.

Like app. Change pricing. I am a stereo guy so I use this for my listening volume. I use it often but not a lot of the super advanced features. Because I use it I feel it is right to pay for it but not on a subscription basis. Can there be a one time price option for us less than premium people?

Great for older folks. Being of an older age but thinking like someone younger, this app allows me to understand why I get so annoyed in most restaurants, movie theaters, and other public places. I will now carry ear plugs and put them on at a particular sound level. Maybe this will help with my getting annoyed. Maybe cold restaurants and other places is your next app.

Agreed. Many different applications!. From loud to soft music, but especially...WARNINGS to wear protection, be it a basketball game (just attended & needed protection) or a rock concert or perhaps classical music. I have not explored the entire application, as it was initially used to evaluate some decent speakers (one was in need of repair). I should have used it at the “arena ”, as ears are still ringing! (Bad from a doc’s point of view.) Thanks for a good +++++ app that we just need to use more!!! Thanks!

Used More Often Than I Epected. Developer just one request! Can you extend the frequency analyzer down to 30 or maybe even 20hz? I know that may mess up the scaling but maybe even just as an “infrasound” or “low frequency” option. This app is great. I haven’t had a chance to compare it to a professional meter yet but in my experience it’s been a consistent and reliable tool that I’ve found myself reaching for more and more. For example did you know that enough time on the Tube could be causing you hearing damage? Or if you’re ever at a gig or bar do you wonder just how much sound you’re exposed to?

Excellent. We needed a sound level meter to measure some barely audible mechanical sounds in an aircraft cockpit. This app worked perfectly. We then used it to measure extremely high sound levels to test passive sound attenuation of various combat helicopter flight helmets. Again the app provided extremely accurate and therefore useful data. Excellent piece of software. Highly recommended.

Misleading app name, free version measures dBZ only. The app name is dB, dBA Noise Meter but what the developer doesn't tell us is that the app only reads Z-weighted decibels (dBZ) and not A-weighted decibels (dBA) in the free version. All the guidelines and standards say to measure noise levels in dB(A) as A-weighted decibels correspond to human hearing. So it's really misleading to the public who don't know any better. dB(Z) levels are typically 10 decibels or more higher than dB(A) so people are always getting the wrong readings, unless they purchase the A-weighted portion. No explanation is provided, it's truly a disservice to people who think they're getting a good reading of their noise environment. Remember, a 3 dB increase in level means double the energy that reaches the ear, so 10 dB at the ear is a huge difference. Developer should make this information available to the public. They benefit from their top ranking on the app store but forget they are spreading misinformation by not explaining to the public the difference between dBZ and dBA. I will gladly pay $10 for an app that provides readout in A-weighted decibels.

casual user. If you are then the monthly fee isn’t worth the cost. I can see one time but not monthly. Update: The developer answered my initial comments, which is good they are monitoring to address issues. They said the Pro version is available at a price of $40 I assume one time but I didn't look. I don’t think they understood that as a casual user that I am, I don’t think it’s worth monthly or any fee. I was looking for a decibel app for a one time if less than 5 uses. Now for those who wish to measure sound in a daily basis this may work for them.

Awsome, too expensive. I don’t need this app, but the net in me loves it. I’d probably start it once every few weeks if even months and I cannot justify the subscription price. I’d buy it on an impulse if there was a flat fee like most other utilities. This is not a “service” that can be paid for as we go, just a utility app and a fixed-cost license to use it would be more appropriate. It is certainly not worth $60 per year every year and forever, this is literally a quarter the cost I pay for the gigantic Adobe Creative Suite which includes Photoshop, Premiere Pro, AfterEffects, Illustrator, Lightroom, Acrobat, and a dozen other apps.

Great Tool to Protect Hearing. You open it up and immediately see a meter registering sound level. Easy to read and understand with noise level comparisons to common, familiar everyday noises. You may not know what 75db or 100db means but you certainly understand how conversation levels compare to a lawnmower! Great app to quickly check noise levels for your own protection or even professional use.

Really Nice; How About This.. This is a great tool for audio enthusiast and semi pro apps.. very useful. How about this developer... what if you had a filter for the audio enthusiast that instead of showing air plane, riveter, streets noise, etc, it showed whispering, quiet conversation, normal conversation, public speaking, quiet church music, typical church music, loud church music, Jazz, Orchestra, Country Music Concert, Rap Music, Rock Concert. Each of these have associated typical levels such as... 60~67 Quiet Conversation 67~70 Normal Conversation 70~72 Public Speaking 82~92 Quiet Church Music 92~95 Typical Church Music 95~102 Loud Church Music 115~125 Rock Concert Etc... you get the idea These are all subject to I individual styles and preferences but the ideas is to get close, some type of base line for people who really have no idea what they’re doing but they knobs anyway (and you know who you are). This is very common in church music and small clubs where speakers mics are either so soft people lose interest or so loud it’s annoying. Or when the band is so soft it ruins the mood or so loud it’s dangerous to your ears. Many churches have no idea what is appropriate sound levels or what is borderline dangerous. I think this might be very helpful.

Funny how the phone distorts audio when recorded l. Today, I measured the sound of my school fire alarm, and it was really funny. I put my phone’s microphone directly next to the microphone, and it recorded a whopping 129 dB! After doing that I saved it as data, and when I listened to it, the output was really loud! Instead of making it sound like a fire alarm, it sounded like static! Decibel X is not only so useful, but it’s also funny! You should use this app to not only measure sound, but make and record funny sounds with this! I would really appreciate to use this for a long time!

Great app!!. The free version is likely the best app of its kind, and highly recommended. The only strike against it is that the premium version is subscription based, and a fairly expensive one at $4.99 per month. I suspect that for most casual users, this is far too expensive…I certainly wouldn’t pay that. I can understand subscriptions for something like a newspaper or periodical magazine, where content is changing, but not for something that provides an essentially fixed functionality. This kind of app is particularly suitable to one time purchase of premium functionality. SUGGESTION TO DEVELOPERS Create a reasonably priced onetime purchase option If you keep a subscription, reduce the cost considerably. You may be surprised how many more paid users you’d have, if you do this.

Software subscriptions are nonsense. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to purchase something one time and own it? The software industry has responded to this question with a resounding collective “NO!” screamed at the top of their lungs. This app is fine. Reasonably accurate for a quick reference during a concert or in a restaurant. However, the incessant reminders of feature paywall is enough to spur me to write this complaint. This is exacerbated by the gargantuan $5 per MONTH price of “membership”. Never before in history have craftspeople required their customers to pay them in perpetuity to continue using the thing they made. This trend needs to go the way of the dodo. I would happily pay a one time fee for any product.

Pleasantly surprised at c weighting. I didn’t expect this to have the ability to change weighting, I’m super happy it does. I design and build subwoofer enclosures on the side and have wanted the ability to have a baseline for each design. While I doubt this stacks up to even the SPLlab Mini, it’s at least a way to gauge the difference between designs. The mini box I just got done building for a single Kicker Comp SVC metered at 122.

This app is good and saved my sanity. I had a high-pitched ringing noise in my daughters room that was related to some sort of electrical interference, so quiet you could confuse it for tinnitus, and this app was able to not only confirm I wasn’t crazy by clearly showing it as a spike on the audio waveform, but also was sensitive enough that I could pinpoint the location of the cause behind the wall to within a foot. Probably also good for sound engineers 😂

Excellent. The app is easy to use and understand. Comparing it to the decibel meter I have from Radio Shack they are very close. It’s like comparing one temp thermometer to another, the usually don’t match but one degree or very close is good enough and that was the same when holding the two decibel meters side by side. Spend the $1.99 and get rid of those ads. I consider this decibel meter accurate (or in the ballpark) and dependable.

Charged for a month subscription not 3 day trial. I agreed to the 3 free day trial offered when I first opened the app. After trying it (I thought for a few minutes) I went to my subscriptions to cancel it so I wouldn’t be charged in 3 days and realized I had cancelled a full months membership which I had been charged instead of free trial. I asked Apple for refund due to mistake but Apple doesn’t refund purchases anymore so I got scammed out of a months membership I will not use because I didn’t want it and immediately deleted off my phone so as not to be scammed out of anymore funds.....big time regret on ever downloading this app, BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Possible added feature?!. I’m a private investigator and needing this app specifically to record noise within a neighborhood to measure the levels from various residents, as my client is being unfairly targeted for noise ordinance violations. Love the video feature; however, is there a possibility of also having GPS coordinates stamped within photos/vids as well? That would be VERY helpful in our industry, to prove noise levels at various specific locations within neighborhoods and public areas. As of now, this is a great app for PIs, just unable to prove specific location where photo/vid was taken.

Everyone Should Have It!. Having a decimal meter on your phone is so important in today’s very loud world if you want to protect your hearing. The high levels of sound in exercise classes, gyms, movie theaters, restaurants, sporting events, concerts can all be extremely damaging to hearing, even with very brief exposure. With this app you can check your environment instantly and know whether you should protect yourself with earplugs or remove yourself entirely. It’s excellent and I highly recommend it. It works great!

Great but disconnected. I can’t help but give Decibel X a five star rating. But the truth is it’s a dead end. There is zero documentation for the software (except for the hints provided on screen which are helpful but insufficient). The support tab doesn’t load anything, and there is no connection with any community of users to enable people to develop skills in acoustics using the software. Sadly, it is also impossible to contact the developers. Fortunately, there is a great alternative which has none of these limitations. So I’m switching over to it now.

App rotation on iPhone 11pro max. I notice that on the new iPhone 11pro max the app does not rotate as it did on my previous iPhone 6! When I use the ap the iPhone mike is facing my chest which I feel muffles the sound hitting the mike. I would like to see the app be rotatable so I can have the iPhone mike facing into clear space while having the app right side up. It would be so nice if you could make that change? Regards, Ian

It’s really good, but…. So, I understand that premium is so you get more money and we get more features, but come on, my ears are incredibly sensitive, and I should be allowed to have a record of how loud the things I’m listening to without having to steal a credit card, or waiting 3 years until I have my own. Making sure I’m not listening to things too loud is PART OF GOOD HEALTH. I do NOT want to be at risk of losing hearing just because I can’t upload how loud a concert is.

Misleading, No costumer service. So last week I downloaded this to just check noise levels at a public function. Upon downloading it said I can try it for three days, after which it will charge me. So I say ok, I just need it for like 5 minutes, I’ll try it and go from there. It asks me for my Touch ID which usually happens before downloading apps. Next thing I know, they charged me 5.30$ for a monthly subscription! I immediately went on the app, canceled my ‘subscription’ and try to contact customer service, but no response and they’ve still charged me. It’s been 6 days, no response. How can one let this happen? What is this?

My mission and you might want to follow. Years ago I lost my high tones from being in the music business, competitive shooting and hunting without ear protection, whch at the time was something not known to me. My daughter and wife finally got exasperated with my asking “Huh, what did you say?” So they had me go to an audiologist who determined I did have significant hearing loss of the high tones, literally crashing off the chart. Having compensated for 19 years, it was time for hearing aids. For $6,000, great improvement shown. I’m due for new aids, another $6K. So, for the past 10 years I have spoken with some 50-60 young folks who blast music in their vehicles. I put the DecibleX app on my iPhone and demonstrate that they are ranging from the 90s to over 120 decibels. They were unaware of the damage they were causing to themselves and in some instances their children. Everyone has been nice and thankful that I’ve brought this to their attention and saved them their hearing and some $$$. Let’s pass it on!!!

It is a simple, yet useful tool.. Our use the app to quantify the complaint “it’s too noisy”. It allows me to put a number on how noisy a thing is so that I can compare it to how it sounds after I fix the noise, or to the sound of my normal speaking voice. The graphic display is useful for showing someone how loud it is, or isn’t. The best way to improve this app would be not to have pop up ads, that is an unreasonable expectation on a free app!

Works; hard to see where to bypass subscription screen. Update: based on the developer's feedback, I re-downloaded the app. Turns out that you can skip the subscription, by clicking the light-gray "x" in the top right corner. It's a slightly hostile UI though, would be better with a big "no thanks" button, or at least a much more easily visible option to not subscribe (even for the trial subscription for a few days) Original review: This app is not free, and not remotely worth a recurring subscription

Great for Sunday morning sound levels. I am always using this app on Sunday mornings when I’m running my church sound board. It’s a simple and effective decibel meter that allows me to check the overall sound volume during practice. I trust my ears and memory to get the volume level consistent, but using Decible X means even when I’m a little congested or off, the sound level will still be spot on. I don’t use it enough to pay for the app but I find it very useful. I’ve even used it to spot check volume levels at other events to test out how loud the sound really is. The kids also enjoy seeing how loud they can scream from time to time. 5 stars through and through.

TAKE OFF THE PAY WALL AT LEAST FOR LEGACY USERS. I love this app so much and I used the FFT 8192 so much almost every day but after this new update I can not use the app to my desired purpose and I don’t think I will use this trash money wall app ever again and I will tell all of my friends to never use this app. At least for the pre-update users please give us some of the features back. Then I will use this app again. Now I have to buy a spectrometer instead of paying for this. I hate this new change and please change it back or give legacy users some appreciation and give us the features.

Works great. The app works great. But I can do without the pop up asking me to upgrade every time I open it. I understand that is how you make your money. But I am not going to pay $4.99 a month for something I only us once in a while. We need the option to select that the pop up not appear again.

Paid for the pro version and they brought ads back in anyway. This piece of garbage is inundated with trashy advertising despite my having paid full price for the pro version because they upgraded it to be 'part of their flagship app' which will keep showing you crappy ads till you put down even more money. No thanks you sacks of garbage. You're not getting another cent out of me.

Paid twice.. I upgraded my paid version to 6.6. It is now displaying advertisements and asking me to pay again. It is annoying. I had to pay AUD 7.99 yo install the PRO version to continue working. Disappointing.

Tricky paid app. Wants you to subscribe. Like a lot of these apps they trick you into downloading then they try to get you to agree to a subscription model. Nope! Apps like these should be a one off purchase at a reasonable price. Developers are just plain greedy. Just say NO to subscriptions! I used an older version of this app which was before the app became subscription based. It is good, but far too expensive for what it is. Forget it.

Beware scam. The premium subscription is a scam. I cancelled my free 7 day trial as soon as I made the purchase yet it still changed my card. I have attempted to contact the company with no response. I’ve checked fb and it seems this is a common scam.

Loving the app for my newborn. App helps us judge music venues/ construction sites and home sound levels to be just right for our newborn. Anything over 80 decibels and we know to move further away to protect her little ears.

Speech therapy. I am undergoing speech therapy to make me talk LOUDER and this fabulous app allows me to see how I am going. Amazing what humans can do with some ones and zeros.

Very helpful to monitor the yelling in our house !. Very helpful to monitor the yelling in our house !

Very Useful. Simple to use and easy to understand. Also very useful. So far it has helped me to balance my home studio speakers; and ascertain how loud the noise was in the restaurant when having lunch. I recommend spending the few dollars for the 'pro' version-it's great value.

Good app but started crashing. I really like this app but it recently started crashing on startup. Maybe it is clashing with my Evoke Hearing aid app?? Restarts of phone and shutting everything down doesn’t help. Please fix! When working, I use this app regularly.

Useful spot monitoring... I knew it sounded good when I spotted this app. Just what I wanted for surveying ambient noise. Basic features are adequate. I like this tool.

Really good. I really like this app it’s really helpful coz I always struggle with sound sensory.. so knowing the decibels helps me pin point what I can handle

Thumbs up. Great convenient App to check workplace noise levels

Not what I wanted. I don’t need a noise monitor usually, but was interested in using one for a brief period (testing AC noises). I downloaded this app because it was free. Then when I installed it, the app told me I would be going onto a paid plan. This is not what I wanted and if I don’t cancel it now, I’ll probably forget and end up paying for something I don’t need. I don’t like the opt-out type of service. You can end up paying for things you don’t really need.

Deceptive Pop-ups Will Charge You. This app is useful, but users should be aware of somewhat deceptive pop ups on first launch, with a very small X button to close, which will attempt to subscribe you to a trial of their paid service, and which will charge you after a certain period of time. See all the one-star reviews for proof of this. The pop ups also reappear immediately a few times after closing. You do NOT have to agree to the trial or any paid services to use this app. Otherwise, it is functional and works well. Thanks.

Deduction without warning. Over 6AUD per month maybe fine, but could you give me a warning when I open this app? It always deduction for several months until I found this disgusting contracts. More worse is, even I paid over 10 AUD until today, there is still ADs there, yes, the ADs for premium account!

Awesome application. Very awesome application very easy to use although still crashes especially after videoing the ability to flip it while videoing would be cool too

Keeping the neighbours at peace. Brilliant. Love the descriptions of the sound level. I notice there’s not one saying ‘demolition next door’. It would explain their walls shaking Hahaa

Handy decibel app. I use this app to find out the noisy levels in my investment properties. And works well. I can upload wav and pdf files as proof for the contractors to rectify the faults.

Ads hinder ability to use app. This app is just littered with ads. From the moment you start it you’re forced to watch an ad for around 5 seconds and you have to tap a button to continue to the app. When you exit the app and come back this happens again. Having ads in a free app is fine by all means but affecting the usability of the app by adding a considerable amount of time to the startup is just unacceptable.

Decent but needs something. Needs to be able to listen to my stereo in my car playing Bluetooth music so I can test how loud the car is. 👌

So easy to use. It has simply great ui has a video mode which shows you the decibels in a video of what your doing. Not very many ads.

Mr 👂. It's close enough by1.0.great if you got an idea of the noise around you.a blessing if you don't,save your ears with this app

Potentially profitable new application,. If I have a really good idea forThis app, will you pay me a royalty of 5% of the gross amount received for the app?

Brilliant. Helped me gain information on barking dogs to send to my local council. Only wish I'd found this app sooner!!

Used to be good but not anymore. Since the recent update this app is now so crowded with ads that it is unusable. Can’t see the top of the screen for ads and video ads appear in the middle of trying to get readings. I used to use it A LOT but it’s terrible now.

To expensive for an app that one may use every couple of months and without certification.. This is not a commercial application

What a great and effective app. Great interface, useful functions and unobtrusive banner ad. Nice blend of form and function.

Great app. I’ve been using this app for a long time and find it’s great for when I’m in music venues and now with a new model I’m able to enjoy the latest version.

No option to stop paying. I don’t need the app anymore but there is no option to delete subscription. Email tab for support doesn’t work either. Dear Developer- how do I get you to stop charging me for something I no longer need?

Rip off and disingenuous. Purchased the pro version a year ago. After upgrading my phone, the in purchase restore doesn’t work, it can’t be found. Also not happy with the apple App Store, as i purchased the pro version of another decibel app, where the icon looks similar to this app. Not happy and feeling ripped off.

Works well. The app is a great guide to be able to demonstrate to those hard at hearing so to speak that hearing protection is needed in certain work situations. The only challenge was wind inti the phone microphone othwise a great app

Not worth it. Doesn’t say it only works for 3 days then costs over $7 per month for an app that might get used a few times a year. Devs obviously out of touch, over inflated opinion of their product. I never got past the initial setup screen where it begs for money.

Simple and it works. Installed and worked straight away

Won't even open!!. Please fix this! Whenever I open the app, it just says Decibal X quit unexpectedly and I can't reopen it even though there's an option to! Does nayone else have this problem?

Helpful - Ads hurt the experience. On an iPhone 5s, I could see the decibel description (I.e. Quiet whisper, Normal Conversation etc). But on the iPhone 8 Plus, the ads obstructs this. I tried removing this, but the ribbon still remains. Can this be fixed, that is, remove or reposition the advert?

Charged within 7 days. Tried the free trial version. Hasn’t been 7 days and I’m being charged for 1 year. I’m hoping it doesn’t take me too long to sort this out.

Easy to use. I found it's quite accurate to what I can hear. At lease the changes in the sounds. I didn't have an idea what the dbs would be previously.

It’s Not Just Fun. G’day, this is a pretty little ‘application’. A pleasure to play with and it is as serious as you want to get. I like it.

Fake sound levels. Similar to most (all?) of the other sound meter apps, doesn’t correctly measure sound levels. Compared this against a real sound meter. Accuracy is 20-30 decibels off. Very misleading.

Great Utility with many uses. I have found many used for this app. In the workshop i have found it an indispensable tool for measuring improvements in trying to make equipment less noisy.

Hmm, ads still showing. I paid for the no ads version, and in logs, I found an ad! Not much of a big deal, but it is ANNOYING! Fix plz

Charged me $6. Poor experience Charged me $6.99 while I was on free trail after 1minute. So disgusting and I am suggesting everyone don’t take there subscription for free trail because they charge you straight away and or unless you guys really want to buy this app monthly subscription. Very bad experience.

Wrong model for this app. This is a very useful app on an intermittent basis- I’d be happy to pay for more features, but not necessarily on a monthly basis for an app that I’d use only a few times a year- but the free version is great.

Very easy, handy to have.. This app is a very convenient, and useful tool

Cannot cancel. Be careful - you will be charged. This app hides the option to cancel which cannot be found in app settings. In order to cancel I’ve had to email the app provider and have not received a response. I will be reporting this to App Store and they have since charged me a subscription fee

Great app. Easy to use and understand, accurate and super useful

Decibel Meter App. Great little unit works well for an initial assessment & indication. Doubt it would be certified to stand up in court. Happy to be wrong on that score.

$7.99 a month? Are you kidding me?. Obvious cash grab is obvious. All positive reviews are years old. I’m not paying $8 a month for something I might use 3x a year. If I could give a lower review than 1, I would.

Helpful app. Great to use for baby to make sure the white noise in his room isn’t too loud.

Not accurate at all. Don’t get it, one star is pre generous enough. App failed to complete the very task it claims to do. It doesn’t measure the decibels accurately, i thought maybe i was imagining it but i changed to my airpods which were quieter than the headphones but said it was at 107DB using live hearing. I then switch to the headphones i have been using which can go louder and using this app, the app says to have measured abt an average of 89DB at its max volume which my headphones were playing at a clearly louder volume compared to my airpods. I was listening to the same song and listened at the same volume (max) for both audio devices).

Avion qui décolle. C’est super

Ur trash. Get good

What?!. All of sudden this app was on my phone, I don’t know why, it’s not something I will ever use. I go ahead and open it to see what it is and I get a “purchase successful!” message! What?! I will contact Apple to request a refund.

Not at all free - Sneaky business practise. Got the app to try it but cancelling the “free trial” doesn’t opt out of auto subscription. Automatically subscribed to the monthly subscription. I didn’t even get to trying out the app and now I’d never buy/subscribe for that reason alone. Absolutely horrible.

In-App Purchases. A subscription based DB meter? No thanks. Deleting from my phone now.

Stole my money. I downloaded this app for free quite some time ago. Haven’t even had it on my phone, deleted it not long after. I guess they started charging money for it at some point and I just found out they’ve somehow been charging me money for it every single month for over a year at least. As far as I’m concerned they sneakily started stealing money from me. I never would have agreed to pay for such an app. So make sure you don’t get robbed by these tricksy little swines. I don’t even know how to get reimbursed because when things like this happen, there’s no one to contact. Something tells me they wouldn’t be in much of a rush to help me out either. Shady stuff.

Decibel x = simple sound level meter. Does a good job on average conditions, but beware of the frequency limitations of the iPad or iPhone mic’s that make readings of sound seem low for conditions that have a lot of low frequency content. An external mic can help some, in particular out of doors as the external mic can have a wind screen. Still for the price Decibel X is a useful indicator, even if not precise.

Works great. Does what it needs to do and doesn’t push premium as aggressively as most apps

NOT FREE. 3 day trial then monthly charges. Also, tries to charge you immediately through sneaky intro screens. How about you be transparent with your pricing on the download page.

Predatory subscription model. Seems to be a decent enough app, it gave me a decibel reading I have no way to verify, but beware the predatory subscription model. When you start the app, a message appears that you need a three-day trial of the monthly subscription. Of course, I forgot to cancel the subscription. My wife, on the other hand, did not do the three-day subscription, and she can still use the app and doesn’t have a monthly subscription. I’m sure a lot of work went into this app, and I want developers to receive compensation for their work, but I honestly just wanted to take a decibel reading once and the dev set up an ongoing monthly subscription by default. I would be happy to just buy the app outright, or pay per measurement, but this new style of app subscriptions is deeply annoying.

Excellent. This is a marvelous app. I could elaborate but it's free so just check it out.

This app will scam you. I downloaded the app, tried it during the initial period and then cancelled my subscription. The app then went on to charge me anyways. I am in the process of disputing the charge with Apple. This app is a scam. BEWARE!!!

Only a 3 day free trial. This not a free app and in the 20 min I had it installed on my phone it prompted me 5 times to upgrade. Don’t say it’s free if it isn’t. I understand upgrading for additional features as a “in-app purchase” description but this is essentially a paid app.

Reports not useful. I bought the Pro thinking it would offer quality reports. Can only print up parts of graph. Why ask for a title if it doesn’t print it. The graph prints two pages where the graph on page 2 is not related where page 1 started. I wouldn’t recommend this product until these issues are fixed.

Not useful - Not worth it. I do not find the app useful. Returned it.

Sneaky Apple. I activate 3 day free trial and find that I have committed also to a one year subscription and there is no effective way to cancel. Totally dishonest. RB

Scammy. I clicked out to NOT purchase this app and it still took me to the app and purchased it. Now I can’t find it in my settings to cancel the subscription before it charges me.

Décibel. Presque aussi bien g’un appareil professionnel merci

Unacceptable app behavior and ludicrous to subscribe for a function others offer for free. This is the only app I have ever encountered that doesn’t allow you to swipe up and dismiss. I opened it and when I saw they had a ridiculous subscription model for a function that is available on free apps like Decibel Meter I tried to swipe it off so I could delete it. It does not respond to an swipe up. Instead it started to guide me through the ‘free’ day trial that switches to a subscription model after that time is up. This shouldn’t be in the App Store at all.

Intentionally misleading subscription. Cancelling out of free trial doesn’t avoid a subscription you can’t opt out of in app.

Best Supporting. I love it

No indication that it was a $7/month app…. Hope it doesn’t keep charging me!

Pay app not free. Trial period then pay.

Useful app. Does what it says. UI is good also.

Rip off monthly subscription. Went to redownload app to new phone and it is now a monthly subscription. I paid for this a few years ago. Now it makes me subscribe and will not renew my previous purchase. Avoid at all cost.

Not free as advertised. Offers 3 day trial and then monthly subscription

Far too expensive. A three day trial and then monthly subscription is far far too expensive for this sort of app.

WTH!. I paid for the app to remove ads and now they want me to subscribe too to remove ads!!! Totally dishonest developer... I want my money back...

Be Careful!. 1) The task bar at the bottom is so feint it’s barely visible; 2) If you just want to try it out for 3 days and escape being charged monthly, remember to click CANCEL SUBSCRIPTION in the email App Store sends to you. After cancelling, you still have 3 days to evaluate the app then if you want it, you can RE-SUBCRIBE

Do not buy. I cancelled the auto subscription that I didn’t know existed until my credit card was charged. And after I cancelled (shows inactive in my account) they continued to bill me.

Scam. It says 3 days free trial and as soon as you press ok they charged you 13$ CAD. Wrote them an email but hasn’t heard back . Avoid this app

Hard to cancel. Made it ridiculously difficult to cancel a subscription

Merveilleux. J’adore tout simplement!!!!

Paid app. I didn’t even start to use this app and it’s already asking for a subscription. You get 3 days to try this app. That’s not In-App purchase. That’s trial-ware.

Crashes and freezes constantly. I am not impressed with this app it is constantly freezing and crashing despite numerous removals and reinstallation's. This app has froze and closed. While running, freezes when I am trying to access a saves recording. I can’t even use this app

Ridiculous. You need a monthly subscription to use the app LOL!!! This ain’t ****ing Photoshop guys -_-‘’

Works really well and has a decent amount of features. For the light or free version I’m really happy with this app does everything it says it will plus more than I imagined it could and it seems very accurate. I would definitely recommend this app to anyone.

Can't Complain. Free version of this app works fine👍

Great app. Great app and all, but there is a small bug that after clicking “always allow” on live feedback, it sometimes won’t show on the opening screen. Other than that, I can use this to prove that my younger sister is turning her volume up after told to keep it down or turn it down and not turn it back up. Thank you.

I no see x. When you go in Max view u no C X. If I could see X in Max view I will give this a five star rating but since there no X I see in Max view I’m giving it a four-star rating for now. Pls fix, also please respond developers it really helps out to respond.

Not impressed with Pro version. Good app, does what it is designed to do. Upgraded to Pro, still get ads. Not impressed, don’t get sucked into the upgrade.

This sucks. How do I get rid of this crap. First page implies that the app is free. After you agree; it tells you it will cost $8 a month. What a bunch of bull!!

Worst app of all time. Is not free at all. Cannot download for free.

D. I love this app

Harrasing. Once you open, can not close tha app. Annoying

Not good!. I’m so not impressed with this app,! They charged my account $67.99 when it was supposed to be a free trial! App doesn’t work and I can’t figure out how to get my money back! I have had the app for less than a month and it hasn’t been of any use to me!

Ads. I bought app hoping the freaking ads would be gone. But no. I have to put up with pop ups and banners

Fantastic app. The sound measure is excellent and in real time. Brilliantly designed.

Decibelx. So easy to use and apparently very accurate

Sneaky auto subscription. Very unimpressed with the automatic subscription off the demo version. I thought I bought this app outright two years ago too. Not sure when it flipped to subscription model and erased my access. Unacceptably bad user experience.

Awesome app. Not sure the accuracy but it seems to be ballpark enough. I like how it graphs over time the decibel level. This helps me keep track when working with power tools my sound exposure. I just wish I could purchase the app for a one time price instead of a subscription.

Paying for premium version and audio files won’t play and support will not respond. I’ve paid for the premium version as I am trying to prove noise disturbances from a neighboring unit to my HOA; however, when I try to playback the saved recording it will tell me “audio file cannot be played”. I have since sent two emails to support and have been fully, completely ignored and it’s now past 4 months since the request was submitted. Not only won’t they give you what you’ve paid for they also will ignore support requests.

Great!. Simple to use, easy to understand, and accurate. Graph shows recent data, each level has a description of equivalence, like Average Conversation. Max is also tracked. This is handy for checking if you are close to a noise complaint, or hearing damage.

Inaccurate readings according to published scientific research. This app was found to be among the least accurate of all decibel measuring apps according to the researchers who published the paper “The Accuracy of iPhone Applications to Monitor Environmental Noise Levels”. The most accurate app is FREE too. It’s the NIOSH Sound Level Meter. Go download that! That app was found to have a 97% accuracy. This app was only 77% accurate. The research paper is free to read at Wiley, go find it there.

works-IF you subscribe for $5 a month. i just wanted to see how loud the air purifier i just bought is (~60dB, NOT good) but i had to agree to be charged $5 a month for a three day free trial to even use the thing. how is that permissible? it DOES work, so there’s that, but i’m not sure who’d want to pay $60 a year to measure sound levels who isn’t a professional who can charge it to their employer.

Not worth it! Can buy a professional sound meter instead. Free is full of tricky, deceptive ads, that socially engineer you to click install now of junk Apps you’d never want. Paid version at basically $50 a year is totally NOT WORTH IT! $10/ yr would be more like it. I pay for good apps that are ethically engineered - This app has click bait, deceptive adds designed to trick you into accidentally clicking install or purchase junk Apps. No! Just the poor, shady ethics of there free version shows that they cannot be trusted for a business relationship. Why would I pay a business I can’t trust - that tries to deceive me. Free version-riddled with deceptive ads - not worth it. Paid version - way to expensive from a company you can’t trust - not worth it. Uninstalling now! And saving my money for a semi-professional sound meter!

Immediate access. I am impressed at the speed that I can tap this app and immediately know what sound level I am in . I recently attended a concert that the sound level was intense . After immediate confirmation of the levels on my cell phone we chose to leave . Thank you.

Interesting, crippled all common/useful features. Most useful features can't be tested without premium subscription. For someone who's learning/playing with settings, at least a trial month would be beneficial, or month-to-month billing option. As a non-pro, not willing to sink that kind of money into an app I may or may not use extensively.

Good app. Everyone who poorly rated saying “it registers 30 dB in a quiet room” need to realize that breathing is 10 dB and a library can be up to 40 dB. So of course your room is going to be at least 30 dB. It’s a good and accurate app, and the ads are something you have to deal with. It’s a free app. Toughen up

Precise tracking, But sometimes is a bit off. The tracking of sound is precise WHEN THERE IS SOUND (That’s important later) but I can be sitting somewhere (WITH NO SOUND) and it is somehow picking up 50 db so great when there is sound but not when there is not (who would use a dub tracker when there is no sound anyway)

Boom in Silverado. I have a Silverado with a stereo system into it is unreal can’t believe how accurate this app is telling us to dB on the stairs just myself into the professionals and you guys are right on the money with them. Thank you for making an app to so accurate and so professional thank you have a great day

Sorry. I really wanted (and the app probably deserves a 5/5) however the app keeps shutting down 1-2 seconds after opening. Sometimes it takes 5-6 tries before it becomes functional: both frustrating and irritating! Checked my settings and can’t find anything askew. Help!

Forces subscription to try. Tries to force a subscription to try using hardware on your device already. Unable to try without risking a disgustingly high payment if you forget. I stand by my statement even after the developer response. Programming a built in timer for premium features is not an issue. A paywall someone is likely to forget about to use the app at all is predatory.

Deceptive subscription intro, flashy but not useful interface. It does a decent job at measuring ambient sound level. But so do so many truly-free apps that don’t try to trick you into payment on the intro screen: (You have to click the very tiny faded gray X in the upper left to move forward to the free version.) Once there, the interface is very flashy and jumpy and it isn’t really clear what the graph represents it’s just very hyperactive. For me, many better free choices.

Amazing that this app exists, thanks. Downloaded this to check the decibel of the music my neighbor was playing outdoors. It was vibrating inside my house, i could hear it in every room of my house even with all the windows closed. Neighbors complained to the police, even after the police made them turn it down it still registers between 42-47.

App is awesome but the ads!. The ads are so overbearing that I gave up on trying it. 4 Ads and a nag to buy something (literally had to cancel a purchase) just to get into it, and I’ve seen 4 more in the 5 minutes I’ve been (attempting) to use it. It looks like the functionality is great... but I certainly wouldn’t spend money with them if this is how they treat people they are trying get to spend money. I can only imagine it would get worse.

Upgrade too much 💰💰💰. Too bad the upgrade isn’t just a flat rate. Monthly rate is too expensive otherwise I’d give it 5 stars. 3.99 a month is basically 48$ a year....other apps offer a cheaper rate. Other than the price the app is fantastic!

Love it. Excellent App. Simple to use and gives examples of things at current decibel level, e.g. quiet whisper, noisy street, etc. the one feature I’d love to see is hearing loss info for given durations at a given distance at current sound. But I use this app all the time and love it. It is real intuitive and ad free.

Scummy splash screen.. The app IS free to try, but has a very scummy splash screen designed to trick people. Don’t be fooled by it. The splash screen says very clearly “try for free”, which takes you to a… 3-day delayed PAID subscription. There is an overly subtle X in the top right that they *clearly* tried to camouflage. I didn’t see it until I saw some of their responses to other 1 star reviews and redownloaded it to check. Sure enough, you can try the app for free. Guys, just fix that. Don’t be scummy. Don’t leave a sour taste in people’s mouth.

Unable To Save Entire Sample. Enabled trial subscription and tried to use the product for a music rehearsal sample (~1.5 hours) but product only saved 1.5 minutes, although saved duration showed correct length. I like the product for it’s real-time features and may choose to use the default product.

Horrible free version. I don’t know if it really works or not. I understand ads on free versions. I see them at the top. But in a quiet room i am about to start a test and a video ad pops up and I have volume turned up and it blows me out of my chair. Every time you start the app before it starts, an ad video plays. I just needed it for a one off. Might be worth the $5 price if you use it often but the stand alone is just to freaking (insert expletive of choice) annoying. Deleted from my phone.

NOT FREE AT ALL. I hate it when an app says “Free. In App Purchases” so you download it to try it out and then the only way you can “try it” is to agree to a “free trail” and then it charges you $4.99 a month until you cancel!!!! They put it on the consumer to cancel because they know consumers will forget and they will make money off that. Why not just have a “Lite” version for free and then you can buy it after. Why a “monthly fee” for a basic app that you should just pay $9 for and be able to use it as much as you want. 1 star based on principal alone.

My review. At first I didn’t know what this appReally really did . This app is amazing will pick up a lie clapping its wings it will pick up The lowest decibelVery useful when trying to pinpoint something in your house that you don’t know what this noise is coming from you will get to the bottom of it

A complete package.. The app is being used for SPeech therapy training and it’s better than the trainers app. It has a more complete display of the sounds, averages and peaks. Also the ability to record the whole session is invaluable for reviewing the work.

Retired CIH. As someone who used sound level meters over 35 years with OSHA this is an interesting concept. Technique for microphone orientation (perpendicular to line of noise or pointing directly at the source) could help with accuracy. Also, I could not find any peer reviewed professional articles on the accuracy of this device. I liked the integrating graphs and ability to change settings (fast/slow response, NIOSH/OSHA doubling) features.

Does it’s job. There is always room for improvement. I mostly just downloaded this because I was curious about the noise levels in my environment, but it does have some interesting features, most of which require no premium membership.

Broken. I loved this app until it recently stopped working while airplaying music to a stereo. Just opening the app disconnects the airplay connection, rendering it useless. I see the response below that music playing over Bluetooth is not supported. I’m playing over Wi-Fi to an Apple TV. So if you are working on solving the problem for Bluetooth, hopefully you will also solve it for airplay over Wi-Fi. Thanks.

Needs alert that flashes and makes sounds when goes over a certain decibel level you set it at.. Should have alert, that you can set at desired decibel level. Otherwise it’s great.

Nice to have.. I have hearing loss. In order to preserve what I have left I use this to determine which tools I use which require use of hearing protection. To my surprise even my Jet small dust collector is loud enough to require me to use hearing protection. Great app. Thanks for making it available.

Actually does what it says. Most apps don’t do exactly what they say they do. I give you five stars because it actually did what it said it would. I just was looking for something that was different it but if you just looking to measure your sound level it’s a great app.....

Essential app. I’ve been using this app for years. 10/10. The only thing it needs is a setting for disabling the “double-swipe up” requirement. Makes it a pain to have to swipe up twice if I need to get to my home screen.

2022 ford transit noise. After complaining to my employer that my new service vehicle was unbearably loud on the freeway, this app helped me prove my point by registering an average of 84 db of exhaust noise in the cab at freeway speeds which allowed me to order a sound barrier to install between me and the back of the van.

?…what happened to the app??…. I had this app before and it was free, downloaded it again and you have to pay the design and color scheme is all messed up like some Microsoft Office template and it doesn’t even fit my iPad’s screen. Maybe at the try premium membership page there’s an X somewhere to go to the free version , but I can’t see anything…

Ok so far. Does what i need. Small enough use that i hope the authors get enough ad income from the ads i get when i switch functions. It has been hard to avoid hitting the free trial of the advanced button which i think cancels the really free ad version. If i get the project i need done two weeks from now with no annoyance i will come back and put 5 stars.

Hearing protection. I really enjoy this app because it allows me to monitor sound levels that are damaging to my hearing. I am a musician and I am amazed at the damaging sound levels that can affect my hearing in everyday life. Thanks to this app I now know when and where to wear hearing protection even when performing or at work.

Rock concert in ft Wayne. I purchased tickets away from the stage to avoid the loud noises. It worked for the opening band but when the main band came out it was unbearable so I downloaded this app. I moved about 300 feet away and now thanks to your app I can listen to the band and not loose my hearing sweet!!!!! I will use this in the future….

Great little utility!. I love this little decibel meter. While there is no easy way to calibrate it perfectly without having an absolute accuracy decibel meter for reference, it does a fantastic job of giving relative decibel measurements. And you can get the calibration quite close if you can find a very quiet room. Five stars for this great little utility!

Can we have the option on/off by user to start after reset immediately but not reset then start?. Can we have the option on/off by user to start after reset immediately but not reset then start?

Easy intuitive app, great data. Easy and intuitive app to use. I was able to record the dba of an AC unit. On the app, it shows all the metrics I was looking for. Easy interface to find out how to export the data.

Too many ads, makes it impossible to even use as trial.. I would pay for a meter, but you have ads littering this app. It’s ridiculous the ads cover up areas to use and you can’t X out of them. Supposedly you can take video and review wave form, I’m a/b ing speakers/cables/audio equipment. ads cover up any useful data. Not going to pay if I can’t even see what I can do with software For basic decibal reading, it works. But I wouldn’t pay for it, no guarantee pop up ads will disappear.

Crashes when turned sideways. This app is great but crashes when turned sideways if it’s not on the first page. This is annoying and has been an issue for a while now, probably from newer versions of iOS.

Frustrating if you change your mind. Overall I have only one gripe with the app. If you subscribe to the premium $4.99/month service, there is no way for you to unsubscribe. I changed my mind on the monthly fee service but I can’t cancel. Otherwise, the app is awesome.

Why most upgrades messed up how an app worked before?!?. I m using your free version for years. I was happy, i resisted to update, if it works why to risk, but this time i updated and what you did? You screwed up big huge time, i cannot find my saved files, some precious, my grandson first words, grand daughters cries and more. You tell me please how to recover those files.

Food poisoning of Cookies!. IMO, this app will violate your privacy! No, I’m not giving you permission to record my conversations! I’m not giving you permission to share my anything! I could not even tell the app worked! The app also took me to screens that I could not find my way bk to the “Home Screen”! Don’t take me to a screen where I cannot get bk to the “Home page” of the app without me having to “x-out” of the entire app!!!! Why do you, software developer, take me to a page I can’t exit out of unless I “X-Out” of the entire app??? How dumb?!?!? And no, you’re not selling my personal data!!!

Free Magic. To paraphrase another reviewer, even the free version blows my mind. I always thought it would be cool to be able to measure sound pressure levels in cars at various speeds to compare with those reported in car magazines, but could never justify the $250 for a real device. To have this capability for free is just magical.

Not free, subscription only. I’m not sure why this app wants me to pay, not $4.99, but $4.99 over and over again, every single month, forever, to use an app on my own phone, and I’m not gonna find out, because it won’t even let me test it out without signing up for a “free three day trial” that automatically defaults to turning into a paid monthly subscription. Sorry, I don’t rent software, I buy it. You only write it once, I only pay you for it once. Not over and over again, forever, just use software I already paid you for on my own phone. Deleting.

I used it for my baby!. This app was perfect to determine if we were too close to live music. Easy to use. Excellent dashboard. Saved my babies ear drums!! We had to move back because the db level indicated unsafe for 30 minutes sustained. Highly recommend this app!

Ruined. When I first downloaded his app a couple years a ago it was really good and I loved it, with the recent updates they changed the interface and made it look much better but now it keeps lagging all the time, and the way it does it makes it look like it’s supposed to be like that, I don’t know if that’s true or not but the lagging effects the graph and just doesn’t look good, so please fix if this is a glitch or change it to no lags if it’s supposed to be like that.

Great App for noise protection. Good meter. Have used this for several years and has never failed to deliver as expected. I use this to measure relative sound increase around work and away from work when an IH meter is not needed. Doesn’t matter if it’s totally accurate, just that it provides a relative reading to what the normal surroundings produce.

Volunteer enthusiast. I run sound as a volunteer at my church and in my own band. With my iPad sitting next to my smart monitor ? In comparison I am happy and confidant each programs measurement and am confident my field use is accurate enough for true adjustments even with the iPad mic. I like this app a lot and probably still will hook it up to a true reference mic but as is out of the box ? It's spot on.
