Theodolite Review. I’m an attorney. It’s a magnificent site to take pictures with absolute proof of where, when and all possible specifics of the shot. If I have one tiny issue, it’s that occasionally the camera is upside down and won’t flip. It may be the iPad’s fault and not Theodolite’s; but I can live with that.

Bargain. Where could you buy a device with this sophistication for $3.99.

Love-Love-Love Theodolite!!!. This is far and away the best GPS app I own... And I own a lot of GPS apps. I do a lot of field work for my work. The Theodolite app is my favorite and MotionX (on my iPad) is my next favorite.

Excellent product. This app makes the job as an Accident Investigator much easier not having to spend so much time gathering the information that is provided with one picture.

Great App, but offline maps are very expensive. I've always liked this app for site survey of local obscura and the like. Since they added the offline map function I thought it would be a great hiking add (like a GPS). I like using my iPad as a GPS even though I know its big. the large screen is really nice for looking at the local terrain. The capability to download offline maps is very attractive so I bought 100,000 tile credits for $15 to download maps for hiking. I defined the area of one local park/hiking are to download and found that 100,000 tiles was not enough! I did a test and found I need about 10 tiles just to cover an area the size of my house and yard. A fine app but does not make dollars and sense for the average hiker. For $100 I can buy detailed maps for my GPS that cover NM, AZ, UT, and CO. At Theodolite prices, $100 would buy offline maps for about 1 county

Great App. Have uses it for years for field navigation.

Pay and Pay. I'm not real happy I paid for this on my iPad and would have to pay again to use it on my iPhone 6+. Also have to pay for maps, pay for state plane coordinates, pay, pay, pay....

Theodolite review. Excellent software. Very versatile and packed with data capabilities I can and do use frequently. Extremely useful for recording positional attributes of any point of interest.

Celestial navigator. Used this app for celestial navigation, running fix on the Moon and Jupiter, one shot on Aldebaran. Error only 28 miles to SW, less than 1/2 Degree. Would be better in non light polluted area with more practice. (Second try): 17 mile error to SSW, running fix on Moon and Jupiter.

Great App. As I travel quite a bit, just being able to check out the ‘Altitude’ on a moments notice, as well as documenting your location is really handy- Also, being able to transmit my location to my friends is important to me!

Theotolite. Has many useful features particularly the ability to add date/time and notes to the picture itself.

Turns your iPad into a mapping survey instrument.. Really cool product that shows the power of an iPad and some pretty cool programmers. Looking forward to using this app.

Problem with iPhone X. Hi, I have encountered a problem using this app on the iPhone X. After using the Theodolite app(version 6.0) to snap a photo, I cannot get out of the app unless I power off the iPhone X. I cannot use the swipe mechanism to exit the app. There is no button on the iPhone X for exiting. So I am stuck in the Theodolite app until I shutdown and restart the iPhone. This is truly a pain. Can this be fixed? Thanks

Genealogy Tool. We use Theodolite to take pictures of cemetery headstones and other family history sites to augment our family history information. The imprinted information helps others locate historical site more accurately rather than from notes like near the big tree, near a gate, along the third driveway, etc. Since most cellphones have GPS capabilities, a Theodolite picture can help someone find a relevant place more easily. Also, as the chairman of a small cemetery, I take a picture of each headstone and place that picture in the plot file. Now I can respond to an inquiry with a photo that has the location information. Thank you to the folks who make Theodolite, what a great tool.

Fascinating App. From picture hanging to landscaping there is no end to the ways you can imagine to use this app. Great fun!

Pretty good for what it is. I'm not I. The habit of writing reviews , in fact I think this is my second one . The app is pretty good for what it is , however I have one underlying complaint the in app purchases chiefly buying tiles . The state plane coordinates I can understand, the amount of tiles necessary to do even the simplest task is Too outrageous. Cmon guys . Really . Yes I understand it takes time and money to produce a worthwhile app but you could up the amount of tiles needed to cover a decent survey grid .then I would give you 5 stars .

One Amazing piece of kit!. I bought this my Nav App back when it was iPhone 4 and it’s always one of the first apps I download now. If you’ve ever wanted to get your bearings, this is THE go to app. Easy to use, and packed with features ensure you won’t get lost, or can pinpoint that particular spot repeatedly. Take multiple readings to find that specific point in 3D space. I dream that one day this interface will be overlaid with the interface for FILMic Pro to make an advanced professional camera for Cinema shooting.

Theodolite. I have had this app for several years and they keep upgrading it and making it even better. We have used it many times. Example making gold mine boundaries, or finding property lines, or getting info for earth excavation, or seeing if something is horizontal. It has proved very accurate and well worth keeping on the pad/phone. I can not say enough about my joy using this app. Makes many jibes very easy.

Theodolite review. For the time I've used this app it has worked great for on the spot measurements. I combined it with Geocoded digital photography while we travel.

Excellent !. I'm a geologist and I've been using this on both my iPhone and iPad since it first came out. It's excellent! I use it in the field all of the time to document projects as well as perform basic surveying. The updates are timely and the speed to take the screenshots is great. Oh and I also use this when I go hiking and camping.

Very Slick App. I've had this app on my iPhone and iPad for several years. It's one of the most precise and impressive apps I own. Every time I use it I discover some new feature or technique I can use.

Theodolite - Outstanding App. Been using this at sea for the past several years and am always impressed. Can be used for celestial navigation finding gyro error. Debating whether or not to request a speed readout or not, but that may cause too much clutter on the display and not needed for terrestrial navigation or surveying. All in all a great app.

Good tool!. Very useful for rough locations. I also use it for some demonstrations when teaching surveying.

Well worth it!. I am an application developer and this is the only application that I have purchased for my iPad. The functionality of watermarking photos with all of the date, time, position and viewpoint data makes this a killer app for natural resource professionals and wildland fire fighters.

Great Field Work Tool. This is a wonderful field tool. It is flexible and easy to use. Being able to photograph a site with detailed site data overlaid is fabulous! This is a tool that everyone who does any work or sports outdoors. From archaeologists to zoologists this is a must have app!

Suggestion. Love the app. Use it for photography scouting on iPad. Please update and include user definable film frame that can simulate various lens focal lengths and chip or film sizes. Right now it is just wide angle and it would be so much more helpful for simulations. The pictures could be used for story boarding feature films as well. Right now I want to simulate a location shoot for a year away of a total eclipse of the sun that includes a unique landscape as the foreground.

Damage Plan. I use this tool in my damage assessments, as well as landing coordinates for medical helicopters. Great tool easy to access.

Unique and Useful. Theodolite is unique in all the data it supplies. If you have a need for establishing location points, elevation and perspective, it fulfills all these functions. The camera feature makes record keeping easy and accurate.

Review. I find that it is very easy to take photo which tells me the time of day,location, elevation and the view. I use it when traveling to record the locations on trips and events.

Standard classic. There are times when I need this app and there aren’t any others that can come close. One of the first Photo apps that I ever installed, and I am still using it. Its wonderful for surveying features in the historic cemetery that I manage.

A great app getting better all the time.. I have a keen interest in GIS and have had this app since the first version. I have used most of the features well beyond what they were designed for and had a great time doing so. A few weeks ago a tree outside our home split in a storm and Theodolite HD came to the rescue yet again. The height of the tree was assessed and tree surgeon was excited about the app too. I have downloaded the more recently introduced iPhone app and now take Theodolite with me everywhere. Thanks to the development team. Great app, getting better all the time. Keep up the good work.

Handy tool. A versatile tool that I use in ecological surveys to collect site data.

Disappointing. I quickly became very disappointed with this app. It is let down by poor sensors on the iPad. Most times the compass is only accuracy us reported as within 30 degrees which makes it useless for establishing known bearings. Best case is within 20 degrees so still hopeless. The underlying maps do not display any property/title boundaries. Stupid me assumed theodolite would use Google maps which show title boundaries, however it uses the inferior apple maps. So forget outbound using it to do a rough check of you boundaries. Cannot plot bearing and distance between previously marked locations other than A to B which continuously get overwritten. Alternatively it will tell you distance bearing from the device to a single saved location. However this angle seemingly always references true North regardless of you current heading reference setting. So useless for walking around a boundary, plotting the corners because you cannot go back and use points establish bearings and distances between points. So mainly eye candy and I will not use it much at all.

Theodolite. Brilliant. Even better now with augmented GPS capabilities on the iPad. The datum pack is awesome, I have not only the current datum but the one before, which allows me to compare block shifts, adjustments etc on the spot. Every surveyor and surveying student should get this.

Favorite App. This is my favorite app. I teach surveying to building design students. We use it as a simulator for a real theodolite. While accuracy will not match a theodolite, students can still experience and work through a prac without our institute needing to purchase a half a dozen $5,000 machines. Our task is now to source an IPad mount for a (camera) tripod. I do wish for the option to set the elevation angle as zero vertically up so that 90 deg is horizontal. This is how real theodolites are set, so would suit my simulation exercises better. This series of apps is a great practical example of the use of the IOS platform.

Works well in the classroom. I use this in high school, and find that I can do useful demonstrations across a range of year groups. Strongly recommended.

Tis good. Excellent app, but then it should be when you pay. Nevertheless, excellent.

Review. Really enjoy this app. Just need a tripod for the iPad and it would be more than a toy.

Helpful. A app itself is good with many useful features. It doesn’t rotate when you change the screen orientation which is frustrating. Topo maps are an additional in app purchase which is disappointing. The HD version is separate to the iPhone version which requires yet another purchase. All of which is a let down when purchasing a premium app like this, cross device functionality would be a beneficial inclusion and expected for the price.

Random photo distorted on right side. Hello Curious if others are experiencing this. I have to use this APP for my work records and occasionally I get a distortion/ mirror repeat of same image on the right hand side. Is there a correction for this? Is it as simple as uninstalling and reinstalling? Or changing settings in my iPad settings. Have a iPad Pro 9.7... so using the latest model. Thanks Alf.

Theodolite HD. This is a fantastic app for anyone who has to do field inspections where photo documentation is required. It is now a must have app for all my field staff and is recommended by more and more land based consulting companies in the area. The captions on the photos can be tailored to capture only the data you need for the work you do.

Superb App. No disappointment !!!

Know where you were and when. That ability to store geo tagged photos which includes elevation and compass bearing has been transformational in the construction industry. Used as evidence, there is no longer an opportunity for argument over when or where something captured in the photo happened. These features are invaluable.

Great product. Works exactly as stated - use it all the time - beats all other products in its class.

Still no universal app with this new version. After nearly a year of development, the iPhone and iPad apps are still separate apps. With iCloud becoming standard amongst developers this could have been hugely beneficial for this app. As of now, if you want datum packs, you need to pay twice for both of your devices. If you want team tracking, pay twice. If you add markers on your phone, you won't see them on your iPad. And so on.... The fit and polish of the app is superb. I feel confident that my measurements are as accurate as the device can give. Nonetheless, there is no excuse for not merging both apps. They look exactly the same. It's not like there was a different tablet UX.

A fantastically useful app, but.... ... I am surprised that there are separate versions to purchase for the iPhone and iPad. I have made great use of this app on my iPad mini, and finally moving to an iPhone was disappointed that this was the only app of many that did not come over to the new device without purchasing it a second time. If, for whatever reason, there were capability differences between the platforms, I would understand, but it seems they are identical. This is the sole reason that I did not rate this as five stars ( and would give it six for the unique abilities it has), and would happily change it from four to five if the two versions were sync he'd together.

A tool of many uses.. Besides the GPS functions, the ability to sight elevation angles and compass headings is very useful. I took my iPad on a trip to Boquete, Panama. It worked very well there. Very well done app. I have had no problems with it. It just works.

Pretty much a perfect app. Useful for geo-locating. What's most impressive is when I'm flying commercial and I can determine my altitude, direction, and speed as long as I have a satellite signal.

Writer-Explorer Awareness. In the field of geology I'm a novice, but as a writer who enjoys travel and needs greater information about where I am I don't have to be an expert. This tool does an amazing job of making more horsepower and proximity features available that I'll use in a single outing. Theodolite Pro. I've used this product for a couple years now. Great functionality and features. Hunter Research makes solid apps that work well. I think their products are better than most because "they just work" and aren't buggy like many tend to be. I've used their apps on the iPod to iPhone and now iPad and all work well. I rate them 5 Stars independent of the platform used.

Too much to fathom in one app. Simply a great product that you have to live with awhile before you really appreciate its genius.

Excellent. We reviewed this app recently at an Air Accident Investigators course at the University of Southern California, and we ALL agreed that this is an invaluable tool when documenting a wreckage site. Distances, angles, positions, elevations all gets automatically recorded as you can focus on taking pictures of the wreckage. Can think of a million others uses for this app as well, so overall this is a shoe-in 5-star application and a MUST have for most iPhone/iPad owners!

A serious tool. An amazing tool. This is one of those apps that shows the real utility of an iPhone/ iPad for professional work. The combination of features create a synthesis much greater than the parts. This is an essential tool for field scientists and surveyors.

Owner. I work in the forestry industry and use this app all the time. I use it to view large acres go timber. In addition once I figured out how to use it, I measure tree height and a compass. One tool instead of three. Not enough explanation on use prevented a 5 rating

Video game features that you use!. How cool to know that someone decided to give us all the features that you can use and grow into. I never had such rich features to work with and become a better hiker/biker/fisherman. LOVE IT.

Great. I have used this app for everything ranging from Geocaching in my civilian life to getting quality photos for LZ/HLZ surveys in a military capacity. The amount of, or lack of, information you can stamp on the photo is easily manipulated to meet your requirements. I even bought the version for iPhone I like it so much. May seem a little pricy, but whether you're Geocaching with friends, taking a picture of your new hunting or fishing hotspot, or looking to streamline products for work, this application is well worth every cent you pay for it.

Great solution to many applications. Have used Theodolite for site surveys since it first came out. Had used it on a Cal Fire Survey of potential hot spots and fire danger zones in remote mountain areas and to document vehicles parked in fire hazard areas. One Cal Fire person so impressed with video images they went out and bought an iPhone just to be able to use theodolite! For documenting where you are or precisely where you are looking Theodolite is the BEST app.

Highly Recommend. I am in the commercial solar business and I use this instrument quality tool everyday. It just works.

Review on hunter theodolite. I first saw this app, because I wanted a method to examine the angle of precession of the earth's Rotational cycle! I wanted to do this because I believe that the Precessional Rotation of Earth's Rotational axis causes Global Warming & Global freezing. This instrument may be accurate enough to show the progressional migration of Tropical and Polar circles towards the Poles & Equator! The migration of Tropical & Polar Circles towards the Poles & the Equator, was proven to be caused by the Rotation of the Earth's Rotational Axis in about 1976, I believe! There are problems in using it! To use it with any IPhone or IPad, the phone or IPad must be mounted so that the object used to take an sight angles, azimuth, & altitude, & simultaneous time & positional information must be done with a reading with reference to a horizon, & at a level mount! I've not been able to find an easy & inexpensive mount for my IPad or IPhones. Still looking! Another problem is to be able to take a sighting on a star, specifically the North Star! Still looking for a way! Still learning to use it also! Not enough time in the day! This seems to be an app designed by very educated people with a love of Science & all branches of Engineering! I really like it!

Boggles the mind. This is a great accomplishment...it does things I can only begin to appreciate. I use it to calculate the height of trees, buildings, etc. I don't NEED it, but I still value it highly. J

A+ tool for the price, works like heads up display.. Have used for marking out landmarks on our property and made a 3-D topographic map. Worked perfectly. Simulates heads-up display in the military. Great addition to my iPad apps.

Versatile, useful, and accurate. I am amazed and delighted with this app. For my purposes, it provides me with all the features that I need to measure and record data for approximate, first cut estimates of real estate lot sizes. Not adequate for legal records, but suitable for making estimates.

One must-have app for field research !!. I've used this app countless times in the field and couldn't do without it ! Fantastic App. This is an amazing app. Everything it can do is amazing and it is all presented in an easy to use and very cool graphical interface. This app can provide so many useful tools in an easy to use interface. The accuracy of the app is also very good. It's a great app and well worth the price.
