Great Customizable App!!!. The apps from this company are a godsend. My 7 year old is intellectually ready to learn the concepts being presented at school. I have spent hours trying to create methods with manipulatives, like foam sticky letters, to do his spelling and other homework because he is still unable to write. This app allows me to add my own separate lists so he can study the same lists the other students are using. I have been so impressed with grasshopper apps. Good start but needs some rigor. Grasshopper apps have hit on a good formula, but the formula could be improved. For Little Speller, we use it to practice weekly spelling lists for our 2nd and 3rd graders. And I create lists that include the words from past weeks to retain the words. In 2nd & 3rd grade though, these kids are getting grades on spelling tests. This app would be far more useful if we had the option of creating a "quiz" round where a specific number of words could be put in a 'test' list. At the end of the list, the kids should see their success percentage. The other recommended change is that you should be able to set the number of words to practice and get a success percentage at the end, or use in practice mode with no final score. The missed words should cycle back in the test list. There is a lot of flexibility in this app, and the kids enjoy it. But the options are limited for creating a school-like test. Also

Recording sound isn't working.. I used to love this app until the record part of the app stopped working. I have tried everything possible to fix it and even wrote the creator an email and have not heard back. It still does not work on any of my multiple devices.

Great for beginning readers. I love the ability to customize the word list. My daughter gets frustrated with apps that have words that aren't included on her school site word list. We customized this list for her and will add new words as she gains more confidence. Thank you for this thoughtful introduction into reading!

An app that is rated by my 2 year old.. My 2 year old was diagnosed with Autism 5 months ago. He's been spelling 3 letter words since he was about 18 months old. At 10 months old, he knew the alphabet & numbers 1-10. With the obsession with the alphabet, he loves apps like this one so he can see the letters & hear them. It makes me happy to see him happy. Thank you for developing this app.

Good practice. The great part about this app is that you can make and customize your own list including upload pictures of each word from your very own word wall in your classroom and record your voice for the words.

Great app. Love all the little speller apps. My only complaint is that you can't hide words, only delete them. We are working on a list of ten words, and I wish I could choose to only have those right now, but turn the other words on later.

Great App. This is a great app for letting students independently learn sight words. Each letter is stated so the child can hear each letter as they are moving it. After the child has spelled the word the word is spelled back for the child for added reinforcement. I love it.

New Teacher. I love this to teach spelling and sight words but would love the option to add words that can be sounded out too. That would be a great update. Instead of the hint being the actual letter, use the letter sound.

Perfect for struggling readers. This is the first customizable app I have found that let's me target the words I want my lowest readers to learn. Not only does it say the word for them, thus reinforcing the sight word practice but it also spells the word for them after they have a chance to spell the sight word. Perfect!

Perfect! Absolutely Perfect!. I finally succumbed to modern technology and this was the first education app I downloaded for my toddler. This app is exactly the simple, no frills, lowercase-word-recognition program I was seeking for my two-year-old. The recorded voice sounds like an encouraging kindergarten teacher who gets just the right amount of excited when a kid achieves a goal. Our daughter likes this one better than the “Endless” series that a friend recommended. I can see her enjoying this on special occasions for at least the next year. I wish this developer had more apps available!

Awesome!. Our 8 year old and 5 year old do great. I loved being able to make a list with their spelling words each week from school and the ability to add pictures and voice just makes it great!

Fantastic app...needs one thing though. This app is wonderful! The only thing that could make it better would be the ability to share and load customized lists through Dropbox like the "Sight Words" app. Hoping for an update! :)

Great app. This is a great app, however it would be better if there was some way to track my child's level and have a quiz for each level!

Impressed, Worth the Money. This is a great app. It is super easy for my 5 and 3 year old to use. It’s also very simple to add your own words with pictures and recording. Worth the money for sure.

It does the job. The app has helped my kindergartener with spelling sight words. My only complaint is I wish I could move around the words and not have to re-record the sound.

Great app. This is a great app with all the customization features, one of the best learning apps for kid. A small suggestion, after a list/test is over there should be a well done message and the activity should stop instead of going on a never ending loop.

Great app! Minor suggestion. I love the organization of the levels that correspond perfectly with the Dolch word lists! I use this daily with my kindergarten and first grade special education students. I would love to have a font option for ball and stick or a font other than D'nealian! Otherwise it's an absolutely wonderful app!

Great app!. I teach bilingual kindergarten and this app allows us to fully customize our word lists and put the voice and words in Spanish!

I Absolutely Love This App. My son has used this app since he was 2yrs old. He has learned his sight words and now spelling in 1st grade. I absolutely love that you can customize the words for their growth. I highly recommend this app for beginner reading and spelling.

Recorder is not working. Sometimes this app works and other times it does not. Very frustrating. Recorder is not working and when you customize,the person reading the word is saying the wrong thing. For example the word is "home" but the program voice is saying "now". I am disappointed.

Wonderful for my special needs kids. This app has helped my 3 and 5 year old children tremendously. I have created all our own lists of names and items for them to explore. I love that I can customize everything with my voice and add whatever they are working on at the current time. My daughter has CP and my son has Down syndrome so this app has been helpful for many of their therapies and "down time" to play.

Great app. I am a school OT and use and recommend this app. It is easily customizable between students. I work with the kids on spelling theIr names. Some need to match and the next student may need to sequence, some need all caps and another with lower case-- This app lets me quickly change it as well as have their picture on the page ! You can add spelling lists or use the lists provided. ❤️😀❤️

THE BEST!!! teaching aid.. I have reviewed dozens of applications to target specific difficult words and customize it for my son's needs, nothing comes even close to this teaching aid. Take pictures of the reading pages and customize the words and sounds. Excellent !!!

Love it!. The new lock for the settings is great! Now, I don't have problems with my kindergarten students changing anything. I love being able to create my own sight word lists. Thank you for the "as entered" choice on upper or lower case letters! Now, I can have cards with students names and other words! Awesome update to a fabulous app! Thank YOU!

Wonderful app for kids. I searched for an app to help my son learn his sight words and went through several horrible apps. I’m so glad I came across this one. It’s ad free!!!! That was very important to me. The functionality is perfect. I changed the voice to his and mine. I read all of the letters and words. I also made up some new encouragement sounds and let him make up some self encouragement sounds like “yay! I did it”. He loves seeing pictures of himself and the family as he learns to spell words like brother and sister. This app is amazing. My son learned 7 new words in just a few hours and was able to recognize them in a sentence later on that night several hours after learning them. So he retained what he’d learned and I was so happy for him. He was actually able to read a sentence with all the words he’d learned. He wasn’t able to do that before!

Awesome and unique. This app is just amazing. The kids love it and I am able to enter their spelling words. It makes teaching spelling so much fun for the kids.

Great spelling app. The best spelling app I've found for my students! Much better than Bitsboard. Thank you for the update. It now works flawlessly on my classroom iPads. I would like the option to have extra letters (choice of 1-5 extra) to make it a little more challenging, of course with the option to turn it off.

It works! Simple fun & learning.. My little ADHD guy needs simple and clear forms of learning. Too many bells and whistles and moving parts make it hard for him to concentrate. This program is simple and quite fun. He loves moving the letters into the right position. He's able to accomplish much without getting over excited. This is definitely the right program for us. I love that I can add the words I want for him to learn.

Add your own words!. You can add your own word list. I can put my kid’s weekly homework sight and spelling words in a list. You or your child can record your voice saying the word and add your own pictures to represent the word. A suggestion rot the developer: provide a blank list named “Your own list 1 “ so you don’t have to spend 5 minutes first deleting each word manually out of an existing list to add just your own.

Customizable. I love the ability to add familiar photos to help with word recognition. This is a great tool in learning their own name.

Great use of technology in the classroom. I love it. I am a kinder teacher and my kids love playing. I really like being able to customize my own spelling list. Great app!!

Problems!. Newest iOS update messed up the sound. The game no longer says the letters as the child spells them. This is happening on the 5 iPad minis & an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1, so I know it's not my settings. Please fix soon!! This is by far the best spelling app I've found. And I've not had any issues on the 7 devices I have it installed on. There is one (more) thing I would like to see in this app. In the near future, I would like to see the option of adding extra letters for choices, making it a bit of a challenge. For example, if the child is to spell the word "them" the letters to spell 'them' would be on the board as well as a few extra. Of course, how many extra letters to add should be up to the parent/teacher. Thank you for a great app!!

great app. My twin boys started reading at 23 months! This app is the best sight words app, it keeps them engaged. They learn something new everyday!

Engaging & Fun. This is a great app, especially for those little ones who are learning sight words. My daughter finds it easy but still challenging that the app doesn't lose her interest. I like the fact that it's customizable and I can add words to the library as well.

Must get!. This is a great App!! My daughter is able to practice her spelling words in a fun way, when I am gone. I love that I can record my voice saying her words & also record different phrases to congratulate her!

Great app but.... This is a great app but it is a bit too easy for my first graders. If the letters are close they are automatically put in the correct spot. The kids don't really have to know how to spell for that. It would be better if you could put the word and then "submit" and see if it's indeed correct. Other than that great app.

What happened. This app use to be amazing when you could individualize lists. Now whenever I hit the record button, nothing happens. I have e-mailed grasshopper about the issue, but have not had a response in two weeks.

Almost perfect. This app would be perfect if you had a big master list so I could match the word list of the class each week. I do make our own lists, but they lack the pictures and the voice of someone more interesting than mom. I do like the many customization features and the immediate feedback.

Intervention. I am new to this app and so far like that it can be customized. I am using it fair intervention with an emerging reader.

Really clever. Love the ability to record in your own voice so both the kids and I have had fun recording the audio for the words, letters and gratuities. A couple of little bugs but hasn't really affected usage too much, can't believe it's free!

Good app.. It's a good app, but would be great if you could import lists from other aps in this series. I've entered lots of words into Sight Words and it would be handy to be able to import them.

little speller sight words. brilliant, fully cutomisable. Allowed my 5 yr old to record his own voice, and together with dragging the letters to their correct spot meant he is now flying thru his sight words. Before this app he was still stuck on his first set of words, now he moves up every week!

Just what we needed. This is a great app to help little ones with their spelling, especially the lists of words they bring home from school. The ability to record all content makes it fun and relevant. We can emphasise particular letter combination sounds, making it good for remedial work. Brilliant!

Fantastic app!. This app is great. My 5yr old loves it. I can add her current school words to the list and add photos of objects which match the Spelling words. It's fantastic.

Good in theory. I've tried for ages to get it to record our voices. It just doesn't work. It's a good app but not customisable as it just doesn't record.

Needs Aussie option. Great app, could use an option to change accent to Australian and make it say zed instead of zee. My daughter finds it difficult to work out what the lady is saying.

Awesome. Greet program, because I can customize to my child's word list! And positive feedback from the program makes the child want to continue on!

Pretty good. I love the customization features. I wish that mistakes were allowed. It is impossible to make mistakes as letters automatically go to the correct spot. Limits learning. Make this a custom feature and this app would get 5 stars from me.

Font causes confusion. This app is great! Customizable for skill level. The one suggestion I have is change the font to match the display. Typeset fonts like this one confuse kids because the way we write "a" is very different than this font and its hard for kids to correlate between the fonts and the letter.

A great app. This app is excellent. I love how flexible the settings are, allowing me to finely tune the difficulty to match my son's abilities. Visually, the simple layout is beautiful, and doesn't have unnecessary distractions. A few things that I think would make the app even better: * Allow letters to be put in the wrong spot. Children learn when they make mistakes. * When a word is finished, rather than saying the letter names one by one, say the sound the letter makes. For example, for the word "shade", bounce the s and h letters together, then bounce the a and e (indicating that the e is changing the sound of the a), then bounce the d. * When scattering tiles for a new word, make sure they don't obscure the word in the background * Make the touch surface multi-touch aware. If a second finger touches the screen, the tile being dragged does weird things.

Awesome app. There are many things I love about this app. Its so customizable: both my girls, one with disabilities and one without, can practice spelling on it, and I can easily adjust how easy or difficult to make it. I love how customizable it is. My older girl has disabilities. We're able to make her spelling word very personal, relevant and motivating but putting pictures of favourite people, Justin Bieber, friends, family, etc and she can has the literacy reinforced while she practices spelling. My daughter has significant fine motor disabilities and yet can easily drag letters down the screen so that she can spell. The app is so easy to program. She is in grade 3. Her teacher and classmates can put the word wall words, the weekly spelling words, her own personal spelling lists and the core vocabulary for any unit in school into the speller app. When her class was studying magnetic forces or different kinds of communities, she had spelling words that reinforced the vocabulary development for each subject in school. She is motivated by this app and really enjoys it. Its the first time that she's been able to participate in class doing the same spelling work as everyone else. Just a wonderful app.

Does not work. Keeps crashing

Might be great- haven't been able to customize. I'm sure it's a great app, but ever since I have downloaded it, I have not once been able to customize anything on it. I only wanted it to use with my own lists for my students, so I went right to the customize features and have not been able to record anything. This may quite well be due to the new iOS 7, but I hope it's fixed with an update soon.

Record Feature. I absolutely loved this app for my kids, but now I'm unable to record my voice for newly added words. Not being able to do that makes this app sadly a bit useless for us.
