Freenow by Lyft - taxi & more App Reviews

Worse with every update. I’ve been using this app for several years now, and with every update the app gets worse and worse. After ordering a cab, all of the details disappear from the screen because the app defaults to the order page (why? how many people make multiple bookings at a time?!), such that it is also hard to find the taxi details once it arrives and one needs to distinguish from other taxis, location finding doesn’t work, I can’t add details anymore to a tricky address such that the driver can’t find it.. if a driver cancels a prebooking then your prebooking is gone and you have to manually restart the process (in times of high demand then it is next to impossible to get a new taxi!).. after making a prebooking it’s not possible to change any of the details.. mytaxi, what is up with your product team?!?

Works well. Used about 8x in Rome. It is very convenient to pay via the app as most taxis don’t seem to take credit cards. The estimated times on the app were usually quite a bit off but the tracking of the vehicle was precise. You can change location of pick up easily although it located is well. We only had 1 driver bail at last minute but otherwise everyone came as anticipated. The app has various options but pretty much always steers you to using a regular taxi.

Way to expensive for ride. I’m really disappointed with this app. Im just giving 2 stars thanks to one of your drivers who at least gave me a reasonable price after my trip. Don’t use this app at least in rome because most of the drivers gonna take money from you. The app shows you an estimate of 8 - 12 euros, but guess what when i went into the car (as my second time using the app) i realized that the fare was set up already on 10 euros ( they have the mirror when it shows the kilometer and the “price” that u gonna pay) and i was not even in the car. I didnt mind it first but when i finish my trip it came out with 32 euros!!!! FOR A 10 min RIDE!!!! THAT IS RIDICULOUS!!!! Good thing that they didn’t dare to ask for tip. when i asked why so expensive they said that once they accept the ride the amount starts to count even if im not in the car and i was like what the.... im gonna contact to costumer service because this can’t be. Those drivers are scaming way too much.

Over charged consistently and bad support. I have consistently been over charged or charged the max end of the quote for worse service. I had multiple instances where taxi drivers drop me in the wrong spot and tell me to walk across a busy street or down an alley so they can avoid driving the full distance and reduce their drive time. However, they of course then charge me the maximum quoted rate that was based on the longer drive that they did not take. So the driver will inconvenience you as the passenger to save themselves time and you’ll pay the full cost anyways. I have also been charged 5-6 euros above the quoted rate for rides that took half as long as estimated because of this driver tactic. 4 out of 5 times I would have been better off just waiving down a taxi on the street. Every time I did, that it ended up being cheaper than Freenow. Customer support is also useless. Mostly it tries to force you through some AI chat bot that is unhelpful. Then when you finally do get a real person to reply, they are just as useless. Not acknowledging your complaint and just giving you copy/paste generic answers. I will avoid using this app unless absolutely necessary and I would suggest you do too to avoid being over charged.

Beautiful experience in Leipzig despite concerns. Not going to lie, seeing all the reviews about riders cancelling last minute made me quite nervous about booking initially, however with the train strike going on my wife and I didn’t have a choice but to book a taxi to catch our flight. It was a bit last minute and quite early (3am) but despite our reservations and concerns, our rider was absolutely everything we could have asked for! The ride was smooth, our driver was early and didn’t have any issue taking us early, he was super friendly, helped us with our luggage, and just generally pleasant. The ride itself was smooth, the car was clean and the music was at a soft and atmospheric volume, he got us there fast and safely and the timer even went well below what we were originally quoted so we were more than happy to tip! I don’t want to lessen any one else’s experience, however I just wanted to share that my wife and I’s first impressions in Leipzig were wonderful. Thank you!

Not nearly as good as Uber or Lyft. One of the perks of using apps such as Uber or Lyft is the reliability and ability to get a ride with limited communication. Neither of which did I experience with Free Now. When I’ve used Uber or Lyft, I’ve rarely needed to speak with the driver. They see where I am at, they drive nearby, I wave them down, confirm the destination, and off we go. My experience with Free Now was not this way. The driver called, and because I could not speak Italian, canceled my ride. This shouldn’t have even been a concern. I entered my destination and location. Why even call? Is the app not providing the information? Also, prior to booking, the app stated that a ride would be available in 2 minutes when in fact it was closer to 10. I nearly missed my train, and there is no reason why the app should display such vastly different estimates. I’ve never experienced such problems with Uber or Lyft.

Misleading Prices. HORRIBLE SETVICE. I used this app to find a ride from my Airbnb in Rome to the airport. This app, prior to booking, it gives you an estimated cost for the trip, just like Uber, but I ended up paying 20 euros more than the estimated cost. At first, I was okay with the price, but when I paid I realized that the driver had added an additional 5 euros for God knows what. I didn't want to argue with him, but instead I decide to contact customer service so I emailed them. They told me that “per their local taxi regulation, supplements could be applied on top of the metered fare for luggage and for extra passengers, from the fifth passenger onwards.” And I understand that, but I booked a car for 5 people only 4 made it, and each of us had 1 luggage avg. less than 50lbs. So I don’t understand where this charge came from, I felt scammed. It would be nice if they disclosed this “supplemental charge” before hand and their estimated rates weren’t so off. For now I wouldn’t recommend using this app to anyone- I wish I would’ve used my preferred option, Uber. They are more reliable and I can always count that their estimated prices are always on point. Also, if your Airbnb or hotel offers a shuttle option take it, quite frankly, ANYTHING IS BETTER THAN THIS APP AND THE TAXI DRIVERS.

Worse Taxi App Ever. I’m in Palermo, Italy and I tried to order a taxi through this app. There is no taxi fare quoted at all and before you can order a taxi you have to pay for it, not knowing at all with the fare would be. That means they could charge you anything they want. I deleted the app and it said all my personal information would be deleted. I didn’t want them to have my credit card so that I could pay cash if I agree to the fare. But when I deleted it and downloaded the app again, it did not delete my personal information and my credit card was still there. They do not allow you to take the credit card off. I don’t recommend using this app. It seems like they want to rip you off and charge anything they want because they will not quote you a fare when you put in the destination that you want to go to.

Happy customer from sunny Florida. I really appreciate the service. It’s been amazing every time I call or set it up. They are right on time promptly and I love that they’re right there just like today I got lost for an entire hour and I got really late so I told them where my destination was not even three minutes. They are already here. David was there to pick me up so I am grateful for the promptness the service everything that freedom provides thank you so much, Marifaith

Wildly inaccurate fare estimate; apple pay declined charge & no record of attempted credit charge.. I installed this because it was advertised all over the Athens airport and I needed to get a taxi to the city center. Taxis would not take cash customers -- app only. I booked through the app which gave me an estimate of 41-45 euros. The statutory rate from the airport to the city center is 40 euros, so I booked it. The ride went fine. My fare total was over sixty euros, attributed to tolls and then 56 euros of fare plus fees. Later, I was notified that the payment was declined. I had paid with Apple pay, via my American Express card. I checked my account and contacted American Express. No attempted authorization even made its way to them. Do not use this service, or if you do, expect to be taken advantage of.

Good app, would be great to tip rider after. Really like the app. Easy to use, good tracking on driver so we know where they are and when they’re likely to arrive. One thing that would be helpful is if we could tip the driver / decide on the tip amount AFTER the ride’s over. If I forget to update the tip amount during the ride, or if I would prefer to select my tip amount only once I reach my destination (in case something goes particularly well or poorly), it’d be handy to be able to tip after.

Do not use in Naples Italy - scammed twice in one night. Drivers may not speak English, and Absolutely do not use in Naples Italy.I used the app in Rome, and through limited Italian was able to call the driver and find their location. The app does not give the same location to the driver and passenger, so make sure you speak the language where you are visiting. Absolutely DO NOT use inNaples Italy - scammed twice on one day. A driver accepted to pick us up from the train station (myself and daughter) and claimed he was at the terminal. I went to every car in the terminal drive, he was nowhere to be found. I called and asked to “honk” his car horn so I could find him. He hung up, refused to answer. I assumed he canceled. Nope. He charged the full trip. I paid a taxi driver to get us to our AirBNB. That evening, I ordered a taxi through the app on the way home from dinner. The driver took us in circles around Naples. In Italian, I asked where he was going? He quickly turned and stopped the taxi. I told him this was not our stop, our place was up the hill. He said “chow chow”, have a good night, “ get out.” I again said “this is not it, this is not our stop.” He again told my daughter and I to get out. We did. We walked 1/2 a mile without lighting up a steep hill. I had only been to the apartment to be dropped off, and had never visited Italy or Naples in my life. Thankfully, I was able to remember where the place was. This driver is a danger to passengers and needs to be removed immediately. I noticed it was the same person who scammed us only hours earlier at the train station after looking at the name and picture to verify, and took a screenshot. I sincerely hope for the sake of safety you will remove this person. If this were my business, I would not place my customers in this position. There are plenty of taxi drivers in Naples. I used this app thinking I would receive someone more trustworthy than I could get from the street. Turns out the sweet older man who took us from the train station to our Airbnb was a much safer and more reliable choice. I will call him from now on, and likely delete this app.

Airport scam. This works in certain circumstances, but is open to a scam when drivers accept my ride then simply don’t move. When I try to cancel the ride, the app tells me that I’ll be charged for doing so, in order to compensate the driver. I called a car at the Madrid airport, got a 3-minute estimate, rushed outside to the designated pickup point, then waited 25 minutes while multiple drivers accepted my ride, didn’t show up, then finally cancelled the ride themselves (after giving up on me canceling, I guess). I like this app for taxis in London, but it’s just a waste of time when I need an airport pickup, until they can find a way to make sure that drivers reliably show up.

Overcharged € & Waiting Woes.... The app did work (myTaxi) when we used it from BCN to the cruise docks but the fare was over €10 more than if you were to just go to the taxi queue. We tried to use it again to get from our hotel to our cruise ship. Couldn’t even get a cab! We just had the bellhop call us one. Tried this in Mallorca but finally just hailed a cab. We didn’t even try using this app going from our ship to the airport and just walk to the taxi station... Perhaps this experience was just a first time user rookie fail??? Gave this app a chance but perhaps it’s just faster, easier, and cheaper waiting in line at the taxi station when you’re in high traffic areas like airports, hotels, and ports of call or just hailing a cab or taking the bus or metro around the city!!! May try it again on our next Europe trip but highly unlikely and only as a last resort...

Slower than ItTaxi not helpful with taxi scam. Tried to use this app several times during recent trip to Rome. (We had a large group with limited mobility and so had to take taxis a lot.) Many times My Taxi (now Free Now) could not find a car while ItTaxi would find one almost instantly in the same location. The drivers we did have were all great except for our last which is the reason for the 2 stars. He deliberately scammed us with a fare inflating route taking us on the “scenic” route of Rome when we were trying to get to Termini on our last day. We kept asking him to take us directly to Termini and he just agreed but continued to drive past the Vatican (which was 15+ minutes out of the way itself), the Pantheon, Forum/Colleseum, etc. A 20 minute trip turned into an hour a €58!!!!! We were trying to catch a train and didn’t have time to argue with him at drop off. He also dropped us off on on a side street instead of out front. I contacted Free Now support about the fare. But their only response was that “the fare is consistent with the route” even though I explained the issue. The app also blocked me from reviewing the ride until after the 48hour window closed. Beware.

Scaming Taxi driver in Rome Italy. I order A trip to a restaurant was quoted between €9-€13. The taxi driver which accept the order took us to another route. While we were insisting to go to the destination he kept saying "1 minute" eventually he return us to the right place. Not yet, the most fun part is now, he entered on his phone app €25 and make us go to our phone an accept the request. We were freaking out. We thought we only pay the amount posted before we accept the ride. The driver getting aggressive and make loud commen in Italian. We disagreed to pay that amount. After 15 mins back and forth he reduced it to €15. We had no choice but accept the request. Luckily we used an American Express credit card. The card issuer agreed with my case and refund the trip amount back. If you wanted a smooth trip, go ahead a book an Uber ride. Eventhough Uber only offer Premium/Luxury ride in Rome Italy, it will be much worth the time and experience. NEVER DOWNLOAD THIS APP unless YOU CAN SPEAK THE LOCAL LANGUAGE. Big Thanks to AMEX team for their understanding the frustration of their member especially when we are in a country dont speak their language.

Nonexistent customer service/support. I sent a million message with literally no responses I took a scheduled taxi in Naples to the airport. When the driver picked us up he mentioned that it was outside of the city center so there would be double fare (which I figured was fairly normal and had no issue with). After asking us where we were from (Not Italy) and a few minutes of driving he mentioned that there was also a 5€ fee for all taxi rides on Sunday (can’t believe that’s possibly true) and then once we arrived at the airport he said that additionally there was a 2€ fee for every bag (we each had a carry on sized backpack). In the end the ride was 37€ which was significantly more than the ride I had scheduled for my friends to and from THE SAME PLACES earlier that morning. Not to mention that this driver wasn’t wearing a mask your policy specifically says that everyone is legally required to wear a mask and if passengers don’t wear a mask then drivers can refuse to pick them up and yet that rule doesn’t apply to them. This guy also said that if we paid in cash we could pay less but there was no way to document that we had paid him cash and he would ABSOLUTELY still charge the card on file with the app so that was a definite no. The day before this ride I had a different Freenow taxi driver tell me it was supposed to be double to go from the hotel to the center of Naples for double the meter because it was outside the city (again this I understand). When he called to tell me that he said “just want you to know it’ll be 40€ more or less because of the distance”. I said that seems about right and we started the trip. Once we arrived the meter said 15€ and instead of charging double (30€), charged 40 because he said that’s what he quoted me which is quite literally not how quotes work. I’ve already sent half a dozen messages/feedback on the Free now app but so far I’m being ghosted…

Terrible fees and overcharges. I recently downloaded the app as it was advertised that the first ride would be 50% off. However that was not the case when I booked it and I ended up cancelling the ride. However, I was still charged the full amount of $80. I tried again and was quoted $11-$15 for my trip. My taxi ended up getting lost, drove around even though I pinned and shared my exact location via the app features and I was later charged $41. I reached out to the app support on 12/25 and it is now 12/30 and I have yet to hear back or see a refund for the trip. Since this is all trackable, support should be able to see the details and rectify the issue. I reached out again and opened another support ticket yesterday but the AI bot was the only communication I received. I would not recommend this at all. Especially when traveling, stick with uber as the support is responsive with issues and the charges are accurate. This app is highly deceptive with fees and terrible customer service.

Poor Service, Poorly Designed App. I booked a ride to go to Catania airport at 4:15 AM but decided against using FREENOW because previous prebooked rides had been canceled and refunded without notice. The help section instructs the user to cancel a prebooking by accessing the “prebooking” section in the upper left corner of the main screen, but there is no menu on the upper left and the “trips” section in the upper right menu only displays past trips. This makes it effectively impossible to cancel a prebooked trip from the app. I also attempted to get a ride from the Vatican to the Colosseum at 15:00 on a weekday and the app was unable to find a driver. If you’re traveling in Italy and looking for taxi rides I’d suggest asking your host or hotel consierge for assistance instead of wasting your time on this app.

It works. It still leaves TONS to be desired. Update: drivers continue to cancel. You’ll wait five or ten minutes for them and then they cancel. I can’t tell you how many things I’ve been late to because of this app. You NEED to put in bigger penalties for drivers who cancel after a certain amount of time. Cab drivers in Spain are some of the worst in Europe but I’m pretty sure you guys can solve this. Let me start with the fact that very little in Europe works well when it comes to apps. I’ve seen Cub Scout bake sales run better. That said, this app is okay. The live update works about 70% of the time. Drivers cancel ALL the time. Can take you 30 or 40 minutes to get a cab and that’s no joke. Drivers will double book too. Worst part though is that you can’t change your destination when you’ve locked it in. Come on champ, let’s get a basic feature in there. I have faith in you…… I’ve also never believed apple rating but zero chance this is a five star app.

Essentially Useless. I tried using this app twice in Rome. The first time, it searched for a driver for a few minutes before telling me none were available (around a dozen were shown as available near my location before I attempted to book). This was at 9am on a weekday. The second time I used it, I went ahead and scheduled a ride well over an hour in advance. Despite the advance scheduling and the app's insistence that they were "prioritizing" my booking, they STILL failed to find an available driver. This was at noon, not the middle of the night, and I was in the center of the city near the main train station. If it can't find a driver under those conditions, I struggle to imagine a circumstance where this app is at all useful for Rome. You'd be much better served calling a cab company directly or, if you insist on using an app to call a ride, paying a bit extra on Uber Black for a driver that will actually show up.

Stay far away from this app!. I was taken advantage of by the taxi driver. Not super sure he was even a driver as there was no signage on his van. I paid 10€ for a cab from the airport to my hotel about a 8 minute drive. My flight back was at 6 am so I knew I needed a taxi and this app was my last hope. I scheduled the taxi the night before for 4:15 am and the driver came on time. When I got in I looked at his phone on the stand and he had not pressed the button that he had picked me up. I asked him in English and Spanish and he pretended he didn’t understand. I was thinking he was going to kidnap me. We did end up arriving at the airport and he still didn’t say he even picked me up on the app. All of a sudden he spoke English and demanded 40€ for a “night time fee”. I had no choice as this dude was twice my size. He pulls off and I get a notification from the app he canceled the taxi. This is SO dangerous on so many levels. I have a picture of his phone while I was in the van and a email confirmation for this trip. Of course I can’t report anything on the app because it says problems with previous rides and he canceled it so it’s as if it didn’t exist. If this guy would’ve done something to me there would be very minimal evidence as the app wipes the canceled trip. STAY FAR AWAY

The app the customer sees and the app the driver sees is sometimes off. We’ve used the app 17 times to get a taxi around London and 4 of those times the pickup point was wrong. That means a low rating from the driver because they are kept waiting AND it means my bill is higher because, again, the driver is left waiting. Last time we used the app the driver was an absolute jerk because his app showed us in a driveway to an apartment while my app showed me right in front of the imperial war museum. after trying to flag him down before he turned into the apartment driveway we walked over to him and his clock had started the second he stopped his car, not when we got in. He got mad when I refused to pay the extra fee and drove off without canceling the ride, but made sure to leave me one star reviews. My account was debited for the ride and it was an ordeal to contact the company to get my money back because you can only contact them via email or through the app, no phone number. While they did acknowledge the problem and refunded me they couldn’t remove the one star reviews from the jerk driver. This was supposed to make our lives easier while visiting London and instead it left us frustrated, inconvenienced, and poorer.

Excellent service in Rome. I used the taxi service in Rome to request a car at 4:30am. I was worried about looking for a car so early on a Sunday morning so I booked the service the night before. I received a confirmation that a driver accepted the ride and felt better about it. The next morning about 15 min before the pick up time the app showed that the driver has canceled the ride. Fortunately I didn’t have to do anything. The app automatically looked for a new driver and a taxi came about a couple of minutes later than the original booking time. We could see on the map as the driver was approaching and the app showed his contact info. Our destination was the airport and the driver charged us the flat fee as shown on the original estimate and as advertised on all taxis. There was no overcharge for the driver getting to our address as I have seen so many people complain about. The driver was nice and courteous and the car and the ride itself were excellent. I highly recommend the service.

Better to with the app. [Edited] Better to pay with the app. For some reason I have been charged twice when paying with card (card and app charges). Not sure whether the driver cannot let the app know that a card payment was already submitted or they choose not to. If the former, that should get fixed. If the later, should get addressed, too... The service overall is convenient. Works with local taxi services so you can get picked up very soon in places where taxis are on the move constantly. Update: I contacted FreeNow regarding the issue, providing proof of duplicate charges. The charges were reviewed and reversed fast 👍

Poor service in London. I was in UK for business trip and booked my taxi via freenow at arrival. I wasn’t too much concerned by ordering by freenow before I experienced 2 forced cancellation in UK. Already user of freenow in France, I feel ok for its service. But by arriving in UK, I tried to book taxi, for two times… all failed… For the first time, the driver seems to stop somewhere nearby and waited for me to cancel the trip. I had to do so as I need to travel directly to my office that morning. And I re-booked another trip with them, this time the driver seems to come to pick me up, but after several exhausting conversation by calls, the driver couldn’t make it to come the the location I was, which is the exit of the saint pancras international station. Long waiting after about 3 quarters, I was so very much disappointed and suffered by this experience. After my business trip in UK, I contacted the customer service for these 2 forced cancellations that charged me 12 pounds, I got a 6-pound voucher valid during one month in UK, which doesn’t serve anything for me, as I only stayed in London for a week for business reason and complaints raised after this stay. Anyway, even though I were still there, don’t have any more confidence with free mnow drivers… So… wish you luck and be careful when you book in Uk…

Unreliable. My wife and I needed a taxi while in Italy. So, we prebooked a ride 3 days in advance. The day before our morning departure our taxi had been booked and confirmed. The morning of: LOOKING FOR A DRIVER. Sorry, no drivers available. We could have booked another service ahead of time! Instead, this causes us to miss our train, which caused us to miss our bus. This was a very EXPENSIVE mistake on FREENOW’s part because it destroyed the rest of our travel plans.. and of course we just have to eat the costs of our other tickets. SHAME ON YOU. If the driver cancels after confirming the ride, IN ADVANCE and leaves the patron in a bad position, a refund doesn’t help. You literally cost us over 100 euros and our day of travel. Ridiculous! Just like airlines, you should have to cover the cost of travel.

Ridesharing Not welcome, buggy. This app is also a ridesharing ap now - working to replace taxi drivers who make a fair income and who must operate with licenses and insurance with a system that exploits drivers and where the model is for prices will go up as soon as they drive all others from the market. Also, it’s buggy. Sometimes it won’t load. Sometimes it chooses the wrong pickup location and when I type in the correct one and press enter, it still selects the wrong one and sends out a request for taxi pickup to the wrong place. The Lufthansa miles for cc payments are nice though.

A good idea badly developed. I used this application a few times in Roma. The idea is excellent. Unfortunately I cannot say the same if it’s implementation. Key problem is that is far too slow. It takes 2-3 minutes of internet search to find a taxi. This is 20-30 times slower than UBER. Then I had an estimated waiting time of 6 minutes, which instead dropped to one without any warning. The developer needs to improve the speed and quality of this application for its use to become widespread...

App was Useless and I was charged double!. This app is useless. You’re better off just negotiating directly with the cab drivers that way you can ensure a a decent price and you guys can understand each other upfront. The original price that I mapped out on the app, quoted me between 14-16 euros and when I arrived at my destination the driver charged me double at 35 euros!! I couldn’t even understand what the driver was saying when I asked him why the price had increased. I thought this app would be kind of like Uber where the price is set but it is not it’s just a way to dispatch a cab and get unknowing tourist. And the customer service was no help when I tried to contact them. This was my first and last time using the app!! What is the point of this app if the quotes are irrelevant and the drivers can just charge you whatever they feel! My advice get an Uber or if they don’t operate there like in Italy negotiate directly with the cab driver because they are everywhere.

Doesn’t work well in Rome. It worked as expected one out of four times we tried using it in Rome. Twice it said a taxi was two minutes away but then when you try hailing one, it takes 5+ minutes while it is trying to hail one and then it times out and no taxi after all. Very frustrating. One time I set a booking for later in the day at 7pm for a 8:30 pickup. It said it would notify me when a driver has accepted the booking, which I expected to happen soon after setting it, but nothing happened. Then a few minutes before 8:30 it said the driver was on its way (while we were trying to hail a cab “the old fashioned way” because we assumed the app wouldn’t work). Overall service is quite poor in Rome. Perhaps it’s better in other cities?

First impressions matter. I downloaded this app in Dublin. I then immediately deactivated and deleted it. I had attempted to use it at the airport and selected the pickup pin location that was closest to my arrival terminal. The apps pin location must have been bad because the driver was unable to find the identified spot on the app — the pin location was right next to the official airport taxi stand near the local transportation buses. After failing to find the spot the driver asks me to find him — this was after I initiated contact with him because the app said he had arrived but his car, as shown on the map, was no where near the pin location. That is when I requested he cancel the ride. It is also when I got in a taxi at the normal taxi stand and deleted the app. Needless to say, first impressions matter and would not recommend this app and I will not be redowloading it.

Finally… A Black Cab App that really works!. I have been traveling to London for over 40 years. Black Cabs have always been my go to mode of transport around the City. 100% professional and reliable divers. Most own their own Cabs and take their job and livelihood seriously and their cabs are an extension of their professionalism. With the advent of Uber, and the race to the bottom from a price, professionalism and safety perspective Free Now has changed the paradigm for clients of these essential services within London. If you don’t have the App… Get It. If your wife needs a cab while on her own it’s the only game in town. FreeNow… Black Cab Access with Internet convenience. What’s not to like?!

DaveofBellinghanWA.. We use the app in Naples and in Rome in 2019. We were pleased with this service, but I always sat in the front with Google maps open to verify the driver was on a good route. I always made sure the drive started the meter once we got in, and before the driver started it it was at zero. Remember, the Italian philosophy is that if you allow yourself to be ripped off, it’s your own fault. One you understand this you will have a better experience. We plan on returning to Rome in October and will use the service again. One note. If you are planning to go to an airport in the middle of the night, do a Google search for good rated shuttle services. Pay the extra bucks!

It’s a great app depending where you are.. I am updating my review. There was a mistake made but it’s been taken care of. I love the way it’s run in Germany. Used it way too much running late to work but it was worth it. In Paris I took it a few times. It’s a private car, not a cab like Germany. So I wasn’t expecting that. I had a really crazy driver yelling at police to move out of the way and cutting cars off and creating a huge block in traffic ended up with a lot of honking. When we arrived to my destination I said it is right here. He said no it’s not. So I started to yell and he let me out. The biggest problem with the app in Germany and Paris is the same. It will find you a driver but then the car just sits there. Or will go in circles or go the wrong way. Idk if it’s a technical problem with their gps system because it can get infuriating watching your cab on the map. In germany it gets 4 1/2 stars because of the car not moving or going the wrong way. In Paris it gets 2 stars.

Terrible app, would never recommend to anyone.. First time I am writing a review for anything but I think someone who is planning to use this app should read this. I was with my family in Barcelona, near Las Rambla, and someone recommended I booked a taxi through this app to go to the airport. I scheduled 2 days in advance a taxi to pick us up at 4am. Later confirmed a day before that the taxi would be there at exactly that time as the neighborhood wasn’t the safest. Barcelona in particular has not been the safest place to be lately. At 4am I found myself in the middle of the dark streets outside my AirBNB with 2 children and my wife waiting for this taxi that never showed up. When I entered my booking on the apps it said that there were no taxis available around the area. In other words, “we know you made this reservation, but, too bad, we can’t help you.” It was sincerely frustrating as they don’t allow Uber in Barcelona. I had to literally walk in the middle of a night to a hotel nearby and ask the very kind gentleman to book me a regular taxi. To this day I feel incredibly grateful to him. Please DO NOT USE THIS APP TO SCHEDULE A TRIP IN ADVANCE. They are absolutely unreliable.

Not as useful in the UK except for getting a black cab, and then paying more for it. In some places might work great, but in the UK my experience is that you get a lot of drivers that accept your ride then cancel after you’ve waited 10 minutes, or others who accept and still go the other direction and your wait time goes up. And I’m talking in greater London too, not way out there. After a few of these, it would be faster (and a lot cheaper) to take an all-stops train. To be fair, the US versions have the same issues, except usually without a public transport option. If you call a black cab then you get a service charge over what it would cost to hail the taxi or phone them. I’ve started taking taxis in the US more too, at the airport the pickup is more convenient, drivers are more professional, and it’s like 3 bucks more.

Scam app! Be careful!. Update: I did what the developer response asked me to do and they repeated the same thing as the automated response. It’s as if the representative didn’t even glance at the history of my problem. Would’ve taken less than a minute. Embarrassing customer service. I was told to be careful of this app and I should have listened. I was quoted a price for a short fare at about €11-€18. When the trip was complete I was charged €30 even though the fare price on the taxi was less then €15. When I disputed it on the app the automated responder refunded me €5.25. That’s still €10 more than the actual price should have been! Huge scam with no easy way to talk to customer service. They throw you a couple euros hoping you’ll forgive them. Do not use!

Perfectly decent taxi-hailing app.. I have been using MyTaxi since early January while studying abroad outside of Madrid and have been very happy with it. I am almost always able to get a ride on-demand, and the taxi drivers who have picked me up have been very cordial and professional. Yes, the taxi drivers usually turn the meter on when you request a ride, not when they actually pick you up, and yes, the cost-estimates are sometimes inaccurate, but this is a taxi-hailing service, not a ride-share service. If you expect this app to function exactly as does Uber or Lyft, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. If you want a reliable, easy-to-use taxi-hailing service, this app is perfectly fine.

Has no protection for passengers. This app allows Taxi drivers to charge you based on their meters, but has no restrictions on drivers at all. The estimated price is never accurate. It always allows drivers to overcharge and this is the case for us in Italy. Basically drivers can take whatever route they want. In other words they can take long way, circle or detour, then they can charge you base on their meters. On top of that, the app charges you a booking fee. My point is why I need such an app. It just call a taxi for you and charge you a booking fee. All others are your business between you and drivers. So it is always in favor of drivers and has no protection for passengers. It’s a joke. Not recommend.

Fares were always much higher. This app is either intentionally deceptive or broken. I’m Italy if we were quoted a 10 euro estimate for a ride across town, it would routinely end up being 15 or 16 euros. This may in part be due to Italian taxis starting their meter when they start driving to come pick you up... which the app should still be able to calculate since it knows exactly where the cab is when you hail it. The app could be improved a LOT if local taxi fare calculations were explained within the app. I thought maybe our driver was ripping us off by starting the meter at 6 euros when we first got in, and also the rate per km went up a couple times as we drove. I googled Italian taxi fares in the cab and ended up reading this was normal for this area... but why couldn’t the app explain this for me? Seems like an obvious opportunity for them.

Avoid (at least in Barcelona). I have tried many times, for several years, to use this app in Barcelona, and over 50% of the time I have been told (after waiting way too long and several apology bots) that there are no taxis available. This includes pre-booked taxis that I’ve reserved hours or days in advance. Even then, they only notify that there is no driver AFTER the requested pick-up time. Today, I tried again to get one around midnight and was told there are no taxis available. Of course, just at that moment an available taxi pulled up. Once inside I saw it had a Free Now sticker. I’m guessing that Free Now has a terrible contract with the taxi drivers and are the least prioritized / most ignored by drivers. AVOID in Barcelona if you actually have to be somewhere on time.

Fake info and unreliable service. Numerous times I ordered and the information was saying that it would be one or two minutes to arrive instead it ends up being 10 minutes or more and then the driver passes you bye right in front of you as you’re waving and takes off in a different direction and then cancels and have to wait for another and another and it’s a pain and I could’ve walked to my location faster and there’s no way to remedy these things in the app and the only way to call a drivers to make a long distance call internationally and that’s a problem. Now I’m late for my appointment. And the taxi smells of smoke

Wonderful App and Service. Glad to have stumbled on this app while I was in Rome. Needed a taxi for a late night and early morning airport pick up. I was worried when I pre-booked for the early morning I would not get a driver; 15 min. before the expected arrival time, I received a message that the driver was on his way. The service from both drivers was professional and caring. The only harp is the suggested rates. Take it as that, ONLY a suggestion. Both times, the prices were over the suggested rates by at least 10€, no fault to the drivers. They followed the gps. But be forewarned. 😊

TERRIBLE, Deserves no stars. My review is slightly biased because my first time and probably only time using this App was in Rome. The drivers have bad customer service. To top it off the app will give you an estimate (just like uber) of how much your ride should cost and it was ALWAYS wrong. The drivers start the and run the meter way before they pick you or or start you at an 8-10$ base so be prepared to pay over their estimate. I understand that is how taxis work but in that case get yourself an Uber X and pay the same or less for a nicer car! The second time using this App the drivers were grouped up waiting outside a metro stop saying it had to be a minimum of 20$ base! Yes, 20$! Meanwhile I caught an uber x and paid 16$ to my hotel. Be very careful while using this App because you will be scammed. Take a regular cab or Uber. I hope this isn’t happening everywhere but it was in Rome.

AWFUL Experience. I was excited to use it for the first time this morning during my trip to Dublin. I scheduled a pickup to get my business partner and I from our hotel at 9:10am. At the scheduled pickup time, I was notified that our pickup was canceled because there weren’t any available drivers. This is as I’m standing in the rain with my luggage looking at a line of cars with the FREENOW logo on them… I tried to select the option to book a ride immediately since the app canceled my scheduled ride. I waited for 30 minutes as the app kept claiming there were no available drivers. Meanwhile, FREENOW cars continued to pickup other hotel guests right in front of me; people that hadn’t been waiting as long as I had. When we finally did get a driver, he was coming from very far away and then stopped in the middle of a busy street and called to ask us to jay walk across said busy street. I told him I would prefer to load our bags in the loading zone. It was not safe to cross and I wasn’t comfortable with that. I’m finally in the cab, 40 minutes after our scheduled time, now late to my meeting. And to top off the experience: we’re riding in a car that smells so awful, I keep having to take breaks to type this because I’m trying not to throw up in this man’s stinky vehicle. Awful first experience and it makes me want to do anything to avoid using FREENOW ever again.

Sneaky and Fraudulent!!. The receipts in the FreeNow app do not reflect a true breakdown of charges made by the driver. Be careful for overcharging!! I took a taxi from Dublin Airport to my home taking only streets. When I got home, I looked in the app where you then see the charges and rate the driver. I noticed a toll charge of €1.50 plus tip that I added. There was no toll taken. I contacted FreeNow and turns out the driver charged me the €1.50 parking charge to exit the parking lot where he picked me up! You also can’t see this charge on the receipt that FreeNow gives you or when looking back on previous trips in the app. You can only see it that one time when you rate the driver. This is downright sneaky and fraudulent!!!!

Drivers often rip you off. While the app works fine, I’ve found over the last 1 year+ of using the app that many metered fare taxi drivers cheat, by inputting a higher fare after you’ve left the cab. There’s no way to contest or change the fare (or even your tip option) after the driver inputs the amount and so basically, the driver always gets the last word. I definitely don’t want to tip if the driver already ripped me off! It would be great if you had a function where both driver and passenger had to agree/input the amount owed or stated on the meter and only if the amounts corresponded would the total sum automatically be paid, or at least give me the option to change my tip to zero if I’ve been stiffed!

Great solution in Turin. I saw a lot of negative reviews here about using this app in different cities. I tried it anyway because as a non-italian speaker, I didn’t feel comfortable trying to tell someone a pickup address and time over the phone. Free Now works just like uber, we had a real taxi driver show up to our location at the scheduled time, and he drove us to the Turin airport. I would recommend this to anyone in Turin that are looking for something like Uber for Taxis

Works exactly as it should. I used this quite a bit while in Madrid and Barcelona this past couple of weeks. If you're reading the recent slate of 1-star reviews and feeling anxious like I was, know that you can trust this app, and seemingly most of the drivers within it. We didn’t get ripped off, forgotten about, or have any issues. Our drivers were prompt to us, prompt to drop us off, and either beat or matched the estimates provided by this app. All in all, I was extremely thankful to have this app. Would definitely recommend.

Athens. First time user of this app. Worked perfectly in central Athens. Only to wait 1-2 minutes. Driver was courteous & friendly.

App ok until something goes wrong. We booked a ride to get us to the Eurostar in London for very early in the morning from our hotel. The driver did turn up but did not park in front of the hotel where we had been waiting 15 minutes but around the corner somewhere. When he was finally found by another driver, he started to drive away, with 4 adults trying to wave him down and the helpful driver tooting his horn and flashing his lights. He did not get out of his car once, nor could we contact the driver thru the app even tho it has a contact driver option, it did not work. They then charged me an additional fee as a no show. Eventually found somewhere in the app to lodge a protest, this has cost me over £20, but have not heard back from anyone. If you do use it, I recommend booking a black cab. NB… developer made contact for me to supply them more information, which I have already done twice!!! Just trying to make it look like they’re taking action on complaints but don’t seem to actually do anything when you submit a problem.

Absolutely useless in Paris - do not use!. I used the app to try to book a taxi in Paris. Nothing was available after 5 mins so it suggested I try find a ride share. It also failed to find a driver within 5 minutes. I then used another taxi app and found a taxi within a minute. I then cancelled the FREENOW trip but I was charged a 7.95 euro fee. What a joke! Now I’m trying to dispute the cancellation fee but I’m finding it very difficult.

Who needs public transport. Not with this app, except for the business area which is way too restrictive. But otherwise a great app!

Rubbish. Takes forever to find a driver that will pick you up and chances are they will cancel on you when they do accept. Absolute farcical app to get transportation. Uber would be a much better alternative if available in Spain.

Useless. I tried this in response to a £15 voucher offer. Loaded lots of details, chose my preferred payment method (PayPal) and used it to call a cab in Edinburgh. A dozen empty cabs passed me before “mine” arrived after nearly 15 minutes wait. When the trip ended the driver says “you’ve got to pay cash”. Big argument ensues. Long story short - PayPal doesn’t work in the UK. So why offer it in the app? Never got my voucher, just spent £10. Just the latest instalment in a long, sorry story of high prices and poor service. No wonder Uber is killing the taxi industry all round the world. I won’t mourn them.

Scam. Driver accepted trip .Driver never pick us up. He wasn’t even close to our location. No way to contact driver or cancel trip or notify app they took my money for no service!!!!what a scam !!!avoid app !!!especially if you want to arrive at airport

Different prices. I understand that they give you an estimate price from one place to another but I had a taxi from 4km from Rome airport and got charged twice the price that informed me on map. Big surprise for me not so much for the driver… I wasn’t going to argue specially since the drive showed me it’s a fixed rate. FIX THAT ON YOUR APP BECAUSE UBER HAS THE RIGHT PRICE and that’s why we picked this app. Must be up to on taxi rates on every city!

Overcharged in Athens, Greece. You will be consistently overcharged when using this in Athens. Take a photo of the meter or ask for a receipt, because what the driver submits to FreeNow is almost always higher. FreeNow support will not help unless you have a photo or receipt, even for regulated fare routes such as from the Athens International airport. Use Uber instead, they are much more helpful.

Overpriced. They just switch you to a local taxi company and every time I was charged double the amount that was quoted. Avoid and just use the local taxi service

Unable to login. I downloaded app but was not given option to sign up. Screen takes me to login with phone or email. I try to use email process but no option to register and is just a login screen. Don’t have phone that will receive messages. Sorry but have to go elsewhere for my Taxi preferences whilst in Dublin.

Driver messed us around in Paris.. Deleting the app after a horrible experience at Paris airport. Driver didn’t go to right pickup. Then kept telling us he would come to an agreed spot. Then wasn’t there and kept telling us 5 mins. Still didn’t arrive. Kept chatting to tell him where to go. He just needed to go to the right spot where the pin was. And where the airport asks. Ended up getting a regular taxi and deleted the app. I will also make a formal complaint as it seems the driver was playing games.

Never use it. My taxi driver have overcharged me after arriving, he have modified the price and added 1/3 amount. I have complained to Freenow twice, only rob talked with me, it promised real staff never showed up even a email communication. It have would happened if using Uber, I will never use the APP.

Absolute disgrace - never trust this service. I pre booked a taxi from central Rome to the airport 18 hours in advance. 15 minutes prior to the 8am pickup time we had a confirmed driver. At 8am he cancelled. Multiple further drivers cancelled. With 2 young kids, 5 big hold bags and hand luggage we’ve had to fight our way to the airport on public transport. Up and down multiple flights of stairs on the metro (lifts all broken of course). Now on a bus, not sure if we’ll make it, unsure whether we’ll lose 1000 euros worth of flights. This actually epitomises the weekend we’ve had in Rome. We were robbed yesterday, the streets are piled high with stinking rubbish. Do yourself a favour and visit somewhere else. We will never, ever be back.

Overcharging by app. When I arrived at the destination the meter read 17 euros yet I was charged 27 on the app, the app doesn’t correctly detect when you have reached your destination. Use uber instead. Customer service is also non existent

Does not work. Awful - do not use. No payment methods actually work and it is incredibly glitchy. You might as well just call a cab as normal.

Wait time. Long waiting time for searching driver

One star is too many. Pre-ordered a van in Paris as we had a train to catch. Had 2 drivers cancel on us, one actually drove right past us. If you need to actually get somewhere DO NOT USE FREENOW. I could not delete this app fast enough 🤬

Works well. It did a good job for us in Rome. Some drivers canceled after accepting the ride, though. It should not happen. Otherwise, the app itself is quite handy.

This is why Uber exist: the taxi driver double charge what the app suggested..... What is the point to have a meter running when the driver literally can put any numbers at the end of the trip... a less than 10mins trip from Milan station to my hotel was shown €9 but the driver charge €18 instead; Mytaxi aware and tolerant such behaviour ... I would recommended you to stay away from MyTaxi until they solve the issue.

Misleading Estimates and Charges. Unlike Uber and other ride sharing app the estimates you get before you order your ride is not to be trusted. Expect to get charged double the amount. When you enquire about it, support will only tell you there are too many factors involved and there is a fine print stated that it is in fact only an estimate. Here you go, factor in estimate x 2 is about right for the estimates.

Cancelled last minute on us. We booked and confirmed a ride through this app 3-days in advance. We needed to get to Rome Termini train station (about 10km from our pickup point) to catch a train to Naples. 5mins after the arranged time we were informed that no driver could be found! The earliest ride offered would have been too late to catch our train. Luckily we had allowed plenty of time and were able to catch a bus, but no help from FreeNow.

Customer Support. I have lodged 3 customer services tickets in the last month and still have not received a response - couldn’t even get past creating an account

The incorrect price charge by the app. Everyone please check the amount of app charged. The app can charges more than the maximum amount of the temporary charged. I have travel from Colosseo to my hotel which is 1.5 km and the app shows it will be charged €9-10. And app temporarily charge is €15. Then my final price is €21.1 which is doubled amount of my trip. Thanks for FREENOW, I had bad feel about Italy :(

No one showed up. I tried using this app while traveling in Italy (Milan and Naples), and the experience was extremely frustrating. Every time I requested a ride, it kept bouncing from one driver to another, and no one ever actually accepted my request. I wasted a lot of time waiting, only to be left without a ride. This made the service completely unreliable when I needed it most. Very disappointing, and I hope the company fixes these issues.

I’d rather a fork in my eye than this app. Do not use this terrible service, you’re better off walking for hours. Worst rideshare app I’ve ever used. Arrived in Milan and booked a ride to which the driver said she accidentally accepted and told me to cancel. Couldn’t find another ride afterwards. A few days later I pre-booked a ride to Milan train station which never turned up. Every other time I tried to find a ride I couldn’t. Waste of an app.

Better than Uber. Arrived in Ireland Uber just cancelled and took my money. Free now much easier set up and better price

Works well in Rome. Worked well for us while we were in Roma. Only minor issues getting a taxi the first time when the first driver canceled but only waited less than 8 minutes that time. Otherwise less than 3 minutes all other times. Worked well even when using my overseas travel Visa card as payment method. The drivers do also accept cash. Would recommend it.

Do not recommend Freenow. This platform is misleading, be aware the quoted price is not a fixed price like Uber. I was quoted €14 for a ride in Italy and the final charge to my card was €40. Even the meter on the taxi that took us wasn’t that much!! I will be deleting this app from my phone and telling everyone on the travel pages not to use it.

They’re charging before they pick you up. Taxi drivers in Rome let the meter run from the time they accept the job, not from when they pick you up. Furthermore when you watch the taxi drivers on the map, they would sit in side streets with the meter running, then pick you up with it already at 10€, great app but dishonest drivers.

Massive con. Download the app and booked a taxi. The driver arrived and told us to cancel the app and charged us almost double in cash. With little options at theatre time we decided to go ahead. Very misleading app and would never recommend anybody else to use it. Stick with Uber for Oka as the price on the app is what pay - not like MyTaxi.

Utterly useless. The positive reviews on this app must all be fake. My wife and I both downloaded this app. She had a conference in Rome. Pre booked her car. It never turned up. Over 5 days we regularly tried to book a car or taxi via the app. Not a single time we’re either of us able to get a car or taxi. I don’t know what the game is but at least in Rome you would be better trying to order a flying pig! Do not waste your time with this app.

Unreliable and Disappointing. Whilst in Milano downloaded the app. Booked a taxi and all looked in tracked as the driver approached the pick up point…..then the booking was cancelled…repeated another booking same thing a different driver and then same repeated…do yourself a favour and save the stress and book a local taxi. Then you will arrive stress free and not disappointed and less frustrated. This app promised so much . Rating 0/10

Misleading prices. Contrarily to an app like Uber, the price you actually pay are VERY different from the price you are quoted when you order (double in my case). Expect to pay a lot more.

Terrible mapping.. The GPS for current location is inaccurate and it is difficult to overwrite it. I had a bad experience because of this and was charged an extra fee. No option to appeal or report the problem.

Don’t rely on this company. I can’t begin to describe my dissatisfaction with the service I received during a recent booking in Vigo. I had pre-booked a taxi for 5:10am to take me to the train station, and unfortunately, no driver arrived nor did I receive any communication regarding the status of the booking. As a result, we were left with no option but to walk to the station in the rain for 30 minutes, which was incredibly inconvenient and unprofessional.

Never again - deleted. Booked a taxi with 12 hours. Waiting for it the next morning and I get a message after being 10 minutes over - “couldn’t find a taxi for you”. So they cancelled the booking! Couldn’t find a taxi with 12 hours notice??? Never again. App deleted. 😖

Deceiving App!. I caught a taxi from Fiumicino to Fiumicino airport, the app suggest the taxi would cost €10 even post trip, what it doesn’t account for is the highway robbery in Italy, the taxi drivers charge for the distance they travel to pick you up and then for picking up your backs. A 2km trip cost €20. Wouldn’t suggest using it in Italy!

Good service. Better than Uber

Lies about wait times. Have tried using this app over the last few days. It always tells you 5 minutes for a taxi and then after 5 minutes it says it can’t find any drivers. This is misleading and and useless.

Scam drivers. Booked a ride with the driver, he calls me and tells me he’s too far away to pick me up and he wasn’t coming and I should cancel. He drove off deliberately and then tried to make me pay him the cancellation charge. Scam! I refused to cancel and just booked an Uber instead. Free Now then cancelled my ride 40mins later, charged me the cancellation fee despite me not cancelling the ride, then assigned a new driver to me and made me cancel that one charging me another cancellation fee. Rip off scam app

Advanced booking. Could not book the night before for a 5am departure with other ride share platforms but I could with Freenow.

Bad experience. Pre booked at day in advance to get to the train station in Rome . A driver was found and then cancelled a few minutes before he was due . App spend a few minutes searching for a new driver, then no driver was found and was cancelled at the time we were meant to be picked up . Won’t use this again

Don’t bother. This service is extremely poor in Milan. Booked taxi cancelled by provider after booked arrival time leaving us without transport to our train. Tried to make a regular booking - no drivers ever available. Not to be relied on.

Rubbish. Had an awful experience trying to get from Heathrow airport to London city - first driver cancelled on us, second pretended to pick us up (started the trip on his app) before cancelling, app didn’t update properly so couldn’t contact the first two drivers and showed the wrong number plate for the third driver which made it hard to find, eta for pick up and to destination were false, could only pay with one of four cards for some reason and transaction declined first two times. Thank goodness the third driver took us. Waited over 45 minutes to get a car. Will never use FreeNow again.

terrible. Scheduled a ride 2 days in advance. We got off the ferry in Athens, there were plenty of taxis driving around, and yet the app said there were no available drivers for us. We waited, and when it approached the time I had booked for a taxi, the app simply cancelled the booking and said there were no drivers available. We ended up booking an uber which was more expensive but much less hassle, definitely recommend uber instead.

Warning!!!. We pre-book a taxi for 5:10am two days ahead in Vigo to get to station to catch a high speed train. It came up at 5:10am and said no taxi's available. We had to walk 20 mins in the rain and just made our train (if missed would have lost $100 euro). Unreliable app, don't use it

Decent app but live updates lag. I like using this taxi app in Europe. But the live updates on the map lag all the time and don’t accurately track the driver or the trip. An example is that the app showed the driver was 5 minutes away just as he was pulling up next to me.

Spam and junk mail. Can’t stop the spam and junk mail once signed up and they have your email. There’s no unsubscribe button/link

Plaka. Very nice gentleman. English is great and suggests good location to drop off.

Scam Experience – Charged Without Ever Being Picked Up. I had a very disappointing experience using the Free Now app in Italy. I booked a ride from St. Peter’s Basilica to the Colosseum, but the driver never showed up. Strangely, the driver started the ride remotely and ended it within a couple of minutes, without ever picking me up. Yet I was still charged the full fare of around €25. I submitted a complaint through the app right away, but so far no response at all. This is completely unacceptable — I paid for a ride that never happened, and the lack of any communication or support is incredibly frustrating.

Not a great experience. I used in both Milan and Monza. Had an ok experience I Milan although expensive. Monza was nightmare. Drivers taking long routes to run up the tab, also taking there time picking up where the time it takes to get to you also included in the price. I’m deleting the app and will use a different one next time in Europe.

Great alternative to Uber. This app is great. Most taxi drivers in Athensuse it, though some also use Uber. It has been used in Greece for a long time, well before Uber. It allows pre-booking as well as calling for a taxi immediately. No need for a cell number, just email, which was good for me because I tried to use Uber but it wouldn’t accept my cell number. I did encounter a problem trying to book on Wednesday afternoon at peak time. No drivers were available, but I kept trying. I kept getting an error message, and could not get through at all. I was rather desperate, and finally had to borrow money from a colleague and flag a cab on the street. I later saw 11 preauthorizations in my payment method, all charged back, thankfully. that was clearly me trying to book but unable to complete the transactions. I had to uninstall the app and reinstall it. It worked fine after that.

Bad service in Rome. I used twice in Rome. First time showed me €15, later charged me €21, only 3 kilometers without traffic. Second time when I ordered it all drivers were unavailable but they still charged me €30 without service . Later I took a taxi by road only paid €11 for 3.8 kilometers. So don’t use this APP.

Pick up - pre ordered. Location was given - yet cab was at different location - why was I overcharged?

Was good. I started using the app in 2023. It was great for hailing cabs and still is (in Rome). In 2023 I had an overcharge and I received a credit very quickly. Fast forward to 2025 and i would receive an estimate, say 17-23€. 3/5 times the meter would be less than 23€ I was charged the 23€. Other cabbies just the meter. Then I was charge some erroneous charge of €1.65. I have no idea why when in both cases of when I felt overcharged I got an AI answer, the charges were in the range of the quote. I stopped using the app and just used cash or card after these experiences. The app is supposed to protect from overcharge not encourage it.

Garbage. This app doesn’t work. Couldn’t get a confirmation code via text after numerous attempts so i tried the email route. Didn’t have an option to create an account when i accessed through the app so i had to switch to the browser and find the website and create an account. Then they wanted tax info and status?!? I’m just trying to book a taxi!! What a waste of time. Back to Uber.

Wrong people!!!!!. This driver picked up the wrong driver. It was a prepaid ride and he took the others on my dime. Not impressed.

Deducted money without knowledge of the card owner. I usually use Bolt or Uber, but decided to try Freenow in Spain. Initially, I was surprised that the estimated price was deducted from my card before a driver even confirmed the ride. This meant I couldn’t cancel the ride if it took too long. I tried adding a tip at the end, but couldn’t figure out how to proceed once I chose the amount. I changed my mind and decided to give the driver cash instead, so I put zero for the tip. However, the final price on my card was more than even the taxi meter showed at the end of the ride. The taxi meter showed €1.50 more than the amount previously deducted from my card, but my final bill was even higher. The app added a tip and some unknown fares, and I had no say in it. I couldn’t agree to it or see what I was paying for. The app simply deducted money from my card before and after the service without checking with me.

This app is terrible. It showed fake ride quote and charged much more after!. Don’t trust this app—it tricks you with a low initial price! After the ride, they’ll tack on extra fees based on what the driver adds. It lures you in with a cheaper quote than other apps, but I’d never use it again. The amount they charge on your credit card doesn’t match what’s shown, and you can’t refuse it or get it back. I spent several days disputing it, but all I got was a small discount on a future ride. Worst app ever! I’d rather pay with other honest services like Uber.

Rip-off Royalle. Nothing is free, even a FREENOW vehicle when you want one. My Experience; It shows wait times as short yet I’ve had to cancel a ride and find an alternative means of transportation. They advertise rates for their services and you might as well open your wallet because you can be charged over two times the rate shown for a fare and their policies allow this. We were charged €130.00 for a trip shown as €58.00 on this app.

Higher cost. Seems to always charge the higher amount when given the range even when not rush hour or quick to the destination. Driver was ok. App works well.

Do not try to use this app in Rome!!!. We tried to use the app over several days and at different times while in Rome and it kept telling us it was looking for a driver. When one was found, we waited and then the drivers cancelled. We even tried the feature to book ahead: after receiving a confirmation, and having paid, we got a message with the driver’s name and then he too cancelled. This is so unreliable and deceptive. This app is not worth wasting your time with or even downloading.

No cab!!!. Booked a black cab with Freenow to get us to a station on our way to airport ahead of an international flight. Booked the day before for 8:05am pickup. App says we will be assigned a driver no later than 10 minutes prior. Booking confirmed by email. Credit card pre-authorized. At 7:55am the app says no driver found yet. Searching. Prioritizing. Nothing. No cab. No driver. No communication. At 8:05am pickup time the booking just disappears without explanation. No ride ever appeared. This marred the final morning of our visit with friends. Luckily we were able to take a bus! Not an app you can trust. Do yourself a favour and delete!!! Regret that 1 is the lowest rating possible as an app that negatively impacts travel deserves a negative number rating. Deeply disappointed and will not trust Lyft or this app again.

Terrible service. Don’t use this company. We took a short trip with a driver because we were carrying fragile goods, a newly purchased mirror in particular. When we tried to bring the mirror into the back seat with us, the driver said no and took it out of our hands to place it in the trunk. He proceeded to crush the mirror into the trunk, resulting in the mirror shattering. He didn’t do anything about it, just said sorry and went on his way so I complained to the company. The response was that the driver said he didn’t break the mirror and they wouldn’t do anything about it. Awful customer service, no integrity with their drivers. Don’t use this app, there are other vehicle services available.

Horrible/Irresponsible service - do not trust for time-sensitive trips. We had pre-booked a trip from our hotel to the airport. The driver assigned to us made it within 250 metres of our pickup point and cancelled the trip, leaving us in a really challenging situation trying to make it to the airport on time. Avoid avoid avoid!

$180 for a 10 mins ride. They over charged almost double of their quote for a 10 mins ride. On top they charged me twice. So what was suppose to be $45 (which is already ridiculously expensive) now cost me $180, and they didn’t response to me when I reach out to them - tried 5 times, kept getting a bot without any responses.

Taxi was a no-show in Rome. The taxi I ordered did not show up. I later read many bad reviews about this service. So much easier to ask the front desk or finding a taxi stand while out on the town.

Trash App. “Looking for drivers” forever. App shows that looking for drivers, but then stops to look for them and you are just left without any kind of option to be picked up absolute joke of an app

Call a driver doesn’t work. After a ride no way to call/message a driver. Out of business hours it’s a headache if you want to get back your item lost in the car. Be sure to release features which really works or just remove buttons which doesn’t work

Scam. This app is a scam. It does not send the closest driver. So you have to wait for longer to make sure it’s your driver that comes. If you get in the wrong cab - which you cannot verify - you get charged. I immediately removed it after 1 use. Do NOT download. Just use UBER.

“Driver completing route nearby”. Drivers should not be allowed to accept new customers if they’re completing another route and are more than 2-3 minutes away. They invariably show up super late, you’re standing waiting for them while free cabs drive past you, and you can’t cancel the original drive because there’s a penalty fee. Insane!

Yeah…. Sort of. Arrived in BCN. Tried to order a cab. 10 minutes and dozens of rejected attempts left me hailing a cab by the side of the road. Eventually worked, but a bit ridiculous as a service. Likely due to the fact I had no reviews.

Can’t sign up if I’m foreign. I’m only able to use WhatsApp while travelling so my phone number is not in use outside of that app. Meaning I can’t get a code to sign up.

Awful Service. No drivers would pick us up.. We tried to get Freenow rides while visiting London. We had to pay in advance, but not 0/10+ available drivers would opt-in to picking us up. We eventually had to take a bus to get home. This is an awful service. I hate Uber but at least they will accept rides.

Don’t use this app in Italy. Please don’t use this app in Italy. I was quoted 20 euro for a ride and charged 45 euro, and the charge doesn’t come until later so there’s no way to ask the driver about it. I’ve contacted the support team but I haven’t gotten a response. Just walk to the closest taxi stand and save yourself from this scam.

False fares. Downloaded this app to use in Italy, fare showed it would be about €28. My final cost however for a 20 minute drive ended up being €38. If you’re going to show an estimate, a near 40% mark up isn’t acceptable, especially when other services offered a more firm price. Driver was also very erratic. Would recommend uber or any other service.

VERY Disappointed!. Booked taxi for early flight and didn’t show up no one replied. I had gotten verification email. Missed our flight! I have never missed a flight ever. Lost so much money. Nothing is FreeNow. Hope others have a better experience. Will never use again🙁Doesn’t deserve 1 star.

Can’t delete account. I made an account on vacation, and only had a travel SIM card which didn’t allow to activate my account since I didn’t have a real number. I’ve been trying to figure out how to delete my account, but there is no way to contact someone since everything is online only now and through the app which I can’t access. Every time I think I click the right link that will lead to an answer, I just get brought back to the beginning again and again.

Terribly unreliable. Do not trust pre-booking. This is a terribly unreliable service. It seems like they don’t regulate their drivers at all. Several times I pre-booked rides to the airport and then they don’t show up at all.

Drivers all scam you. No customer service help. Used this 2 times and both times been way over charged. First time they refunded only 3$. Second time we were quoted 14-22$. At the end of the trip the total was 16$ and my card was charged 28$. Asked for my refund like the first time and they said they will get back in 24 hrs. It has been 5 days still no help. STAY AWAY! *UPDATE* Officially 10 days now still nothing.

Disappointed. I used the app a lot and enjoyed it, but one day a particularly long trip came up as fraud on my credit card and it declined. I let my bank know the charge was legitimate and the charge went through. However, even after resolving the issue, I was not able to use the app to call a taxi even if I tried with multiple different payment methods. I got in touch with support, and they simply told me that they could not remove the restriction. So now I just can’t use the app.

Not Reliable. I prebooked a ride 4am to Malaga Airport, the day before. It said driver’s details will be shared shortly before pick-up. The pick up time went by and no driver showed up. I then ordered an Uber and the driver showed up in 3 minutes. I was at the airport checking in when I got a message from FreeNow “sorry we couldn’t find a driver! Your trip is cancelled“

Rip Off. Beware in Rome this company is used by taxis to rip you off. What you see on the app is not what you’ll get charged. They also pay the taxi for the time it takes to pick you up. For example if it takes 20 minutes for the taxi driver to come to you it will be a 20 minute fare added. Do yourself a favor and don’t use this joke of a company. Many of the taxi drivers in Rome use this app to scam tourists. Just do yourself a favor and pay for an Uber to just find a regular taxi. This service is GARBAGE. I was scammed and then used it again and got scammed again! Customer service is also a joke.

Fares are higher than quoted at times in Italy. The app works well. However, unlike our experience using Uber or Lyft in America, half of our drivers in Rome have started the meter when they started driving to meet us, NOT after they picked us up. Therefore, the cost of our ride was MUCH higher than expected (our last ride was quoted 8-11 €, & was 30€). We also had an issue where the app kept “dropping” our driver on the way to us and sending another car as, evidently, it was giving the drivers incorrect directions to get to our meeting point. One last issue we had is that the app will not refresh your location if you move. Therefore, if you check on price & availability on a cab, and do not reset the app when you later need it, the cab will try to pick you up from your previous location. Still better to have when traveling abroad as another option, but still not functioning smoothly.

Pure crap. I see my earlier review never posted, so here it is again. Customer service with this app is abysmal. The app lost all my data during the transition from MyTaxi to FreeNow. I’ve been unable to order cabs - and missed an important appointment once - due to their incompetence. Wrangling with “customer service” did not help at all. I was assigned someone with a local sounding name and then forgotten about.

Do not use if you want to stay safe.. EDITED FROM THREE STARS- Driver dropped my daughter off at the incorrect address, even though both the name of the hotel and address were confirmed with him. She was questioning it, so he basically threw her out a 15 minute drive or hour’s walk from her hotel in a sketchy area in the middle of the night. I will now devote my spare time to finding every possible review for them and letting people know how HORRIBLE they are. If you’re somewhere remote, or can’t get an Uber or Lyft for some reason, this is a backup I guess. No tracking, no notification of who your driver is or the license plate or any identification on the car, it’s ridiculous in a crowded area. Don’t waste your time.

Love it, very convenient. I use it all the time in London and my teenage daughters use it often as well. I feel safe knowing we can all order a black can directly to our location without having to wait on the street to flag one down. It’s usually reliable and quick to get a taxi with Freenow. I always have a good experience.

Avoid in Germany. Evidently it is common in Germany for taxi drivers to attempt to double their payment by intentionally circumventing the app. Americans are, of course, the primary victims. After all of the horror stories I heard, I still decided to take my chances. The man confirmed he was our driver, drove intentionally the wrong direction for several kilometers, then tried to charge us separately (to include the extra km) when we arrived. The police had to get involved, and it was settled. Never again. Luckily, my experience didn’t result in actual or near bodily harm, but I know others for whom that was the case. Stay safe.

Shady app. I used this app for the first time going through Italy. Every time I got the estimate of cost I would select the driver and every time the driver showed up the cost was what was on the meter. I thought that’s all I had to pay which made me happy, but no. As soon as we started moving it went up every 10 seconds. I asked why do I have to pay starting at 6€ and the driver said because I had to pick you up. Watch out for this app. It’s better to take the bus or just wave a taxi. Not using the app anymore. The reason I gave two and not one star is because one driver was nice and wiped it clear and started over for me.

Very easy and reliable app- needs some UX fixes. The app gives you accurate info on the availability of a taxi, the expected pick up and arrival times and the expected costs. On the negative, it seems that the only way to know if MyTaxi works in a city is to actually book a taxi. You can be misled into thinking that the service is available in a city only to discover that it’s not supported when you press Book. Seems that kind of calamity could be avoided easily.

Absolutely terrible service and extremely overpriced. I used this app since it advertised itself as being cheaper than competitors and also offered a 50% discount on the first 2 rides. I used it to get a cab due to major cancelations on the stansted express train. I was charged 20% more than uber and on top of that I never received any discounts. I reached out to customer service and they didn’t provide a credit or correct the charges. The driver also only made 75% of the fare which is taking advantage. I personally dislike uber but would rather use uber than use this app again as uber has much better rates and customer service.

Outstanding app!. We’ve used this app throughout Barcelona and Rome, and without fail we have had an excellent experience. It was fantastic to hail a taxi when we needed it and knowing it would show. The cost estimate is wonderful, and saved us money, even when not using the app to hail a taxi. In Rome we were at the Termini. I looked at the app for an estimate, but a and approached the taxi stand. A man hailing “taxis” approached me and quoted €35 for a ride I knew was €11. I immediately knew he was not an official Roma taxi and moved on.

Rome service. We have used this app on two separate visits to Rome. We are very happy with it. Taxis arrived quickly, were always able to find us wherever we were (including on busy streets), and the drivers were grateful and somewhat surprised by (small) tips which aren’t the custom there. In our experience, taxi drivers knew the city well: only once did we have a driver who got confused about a location.

Pre-ordered 4 or 5 cabs in the last month and was cancelled on that morning. When mytaxi first came out, I was excited to find an easy way to book a cab. However, I didn’t expect it to be so unreliable. My family and I live in the city and we have now been cancelled on at least 4 or 5 times when we have pre-booked a cab well ahead of time. If you are looking for a larger cab, DO NOT USE THIS APP. They will always cancel on you last minute if they find a fare that is more convenient for them. After I supported the idea of the taxi strike this past July, I can now say I’m fed up and have no problem using UBER and Cabify.

FreeNow is best. Other taxi drivers in Barcelona are thieves.. We wish someone told us about FreeNow before. When we first arrived in Barcelona from the cruise ship terminal the taxi driver was not FreeNow and charged us $32. for a 5 minute ride and wouldn’t give us our luggage unless we paid. We cancelled the payment through our credit card company afterwards. Since then we only use FreeNow with no problems ! Tha I you free now.

Great first experience as a foreigner. App is very easy to use and can easily adjust pickup location if gps isn’t pinging you correctly, driver was very personable and professional, car was clean and no smells at all even cigarette. Best price especially compared to U app that my companion checked. We were super far from Galway city Centre in lough rea so it was quite an expensive missing bus moment but George was a pleasure I highly recommend this cabbie service

Awesome for last-min rides (dont try to schedule though). Pretty much an on-call taxi service just like Uber! Works great when you need a taxi asap and makes payments/tipping easy. Only bad experience I've had was when I scheduled a ride and it was "confirmed" but when the day and time came, there was no one to pick me up and I had to call a different taxi. Useful app, just be careful!

No-show. So I used FreeNow to pre-book a taxi for the following morning, thinking that everything was good-I saw a pending 18€ charge in PayPal, everything seemed on point. Until the next morning when the taxi was a no show. Luckily, the taxi stand that was a 15 minute walk away had a cab (it normally doesn’t at 0430 in the morning), so I made it to the Airport Terminal with just a little bit of rage in my heart. If you offer pre-booking services, the companies that execute the order should be reliable and follow-through with it. In the end I was not charged for the ride, but the inconvenience was enough to convince me not to use this app again if I am in a time crunch.

Poor service and inaccurate pricing. After arriving at Fiumicino airport in Rome, we were recommended this service to do a short taxi ride to our place of stay, only 12 minutes from the airport, for an estimated 16-20 euro and 2 minute wait time. We ended up waiting over 30 minutes as 6 drivers in a row canceled our order, and when a driver finally did show up, they charged almost double the estimated price. It would have been cheaper and easier to negotiate with a driver at the airport, or use another app that offers more accurate estimates and doesn’t allow drivers to take your orders and then immediately cancel them.

App indicates a misleading price range (56 to 86) the over charges by more than a 1/3.. Very disappointed that the app seems to use bait and switch pricing for taxis. Normal ride to the airport is around 70 pounds. App quoted me 53 to 86 pounds which is a reasonable range. Actual trip cost 111 pounds with no traffic, stops or extras. Seems like they use the "meter" unpredictability to underprice and then over price it when billing. Very disappointed.

Taxi did not show even though the app showed him coming. I pre-booked a taxi to pick us up this morning from Smithfield for a 6:00am trip to the airport and when I was watching the App the trip disappeared. I called for another cab and he came (at 6:12am). I told the driver and he told me that the other driver probably accepted a higher paying fare. He told me there was no penalty for the driver taking another trip This is a deplorable way to run a taxi service, it’s my understanding that “M Taxi” doesn’t care about their customers as they get a bigger percentage of the fare. If I was not watching the App I would not have known. Shame on you for letting this policy exist and standing your customers

Bad app, BAD COMPANY, BAD DRIVERS CROOKS. No no no. Bad company they employ shady drivers I wouldn’t get in one of their cars again!’ Pick up started at nine minutes then went to 11 then we sat 24 minutes watching the idiot drive in circles less than a mile from us. total wedding time stayed at 11 but it took him 32 minutes. Very shady guy and company got pulled over by the French police and thought we were going to get arrested also. Three out of six drivers had cars with no AC in August in Paris! Fourth one was too stupid to know how to turn it on which I had to do for him —since it was 85 outside in downtown Paris. The autos aren’t safe and thier people aren’t safe 😡don’t do it just call Uber

Be aware. Before using this app, be aware that it is NOT like other apps such as lyft, Uber, etc. when requesting a ride the app will give you an estimate of the cab fare. However, be aware that it is only an ‘estimate.’ Your ride maybe twice or three times the fee suggested. This happened to me in my first use. It was extremely disappointing and frustrating. Twice the suggested estimate!!! Uber would have been way cheaper. I also contacted the Free Now to discuss the situation and they were very dismissive and reinforced the idea that “it is only an estimate”. I wish that was made clear before I made my decision to order the cab.

Worst service in west Ireland. This used to be a good app, I remember the days. But in recent years their customer service badly deteriorated and became the worst EVER. One customer service representative let me know when I complained about a ride -that there is no Free Now service in my city - well I guess I have been using them here for three years under some kind of miracle! Another representative answered my complaint about a pre-booked ride that they just cancelled at the last moment, This representative wrote to me that he would very much like to help me but I have no history of rides with the email I wrote from (same email I’ve been using with Free Now for years!) - that’s a nice excuse for not doing his job! They don’t screen their drivers well or at all - It happened more than once that a driver I complained about picked up my next ride because obviously why should they care about complaints? They truly are the worst. Find an alternative!

Never works, just searches for drivers.. App never works and actually connects you to a driver. All I have is a bunch of hold fees on my card and have yet to complete a successful ride with this app. It never lets me drop the pin where I am always sends me 3-5 walk away and then I get there and it searches for a driver for 10+ minutes. I end up canceling the trip every time because of this and flag down a taxi that triple charges me in cash for the ride and the taxi will say free now on the side and they would just rather ignore the app and use it as there last source when there are no other rides. Waste of time using this.

No punishment of crooked drivers. This is a functional app. Often faster than Uber. But customer service is garbage. I had a driver accept my request with no intention of picking me up (car didn’t move). If I issue a cancel request I would be charged, no matter how long it takes. Estimated pickup time was 1:42. 2:01 car hasn’t moved. I wasn’t going to give the driver the pleasure of collecting, so I held on. Then I booked an Uber. Driver cancelled a few minutes later, I didn’t let him win, but I still lost time. Can’t even send a complaint to Free Now, because the app is deliberately designed to not receive any complaints. I’m so disgusted with this company

Disappointed in London. I can’t say how reliable Free Now is in other cities, but I found it to be maddeningly unreliable in London. On several occasions, drivers who accepted the booking simply didn’t show up and the evidence suggests that they dropped us simply because they wanted to grab a “better” fare. This was frustrating enough when we were out on the town but really alarming when we had pre-booked an early morning ride to Paddington Station to get to Heathrow. There’s nothing wrong with the app’s tech but there’s something quite wrong with some drivers’ customer relations ethics.

This app does not create true transparency and honesty amongst Cab Drivers like Uber. We were taken advantage of several cab drivers through this app as tourists. The driver can go any route they wish and none of them followed the map. Second, the driver determines the actual amount charged through the meter and then enters it in the app. We had one driver who took the scenic route and ran up a 14 Euro charge and then had the nerve to charge us 20 euros. The mytaxi app quoted between 8-9 Euros. I contacted mytaxi and it’s been over 48 hours and we have yet to hear from them. UberX needs to come to Italy and it is this exact reason why people choose Uber over taxis when they have the option.

Simplified my travels. I get unlimited (albeit slow) data in Italy but calling costs me so this app was the most economical way to hail a taxi. The rate estimates were very close to what each ride cost me. Only one ride was more expensive than quoted (by a few euros) and that was mainly due to traffic slowing down the ride. I was also able to schedule a ride to the airport ahead of time which saved me a lot of stress. 10/10 would use this app again.

Held hostage in the cab. This app is a complete scam. I was estimated 6€ for the trip, but the meter was at over 6 when I got in the taxi. The driver stopped to give other people directions while my fare continued to increase every 10 seconds. My end fare was over double. However, that was not even the worst part. When we arrived the driver demanded cash. I was very confused since this was my first time using the app. He would not let me out until I gave him more money and the fare kept increasing while this was happening. Meanwhile, the app also charged me for the fare. I felt very unsafe and will never use this app again.

TOTALLY UNRELIABLE. The service might be ok from time to time when you do not have a deadline. Do not, however, use FreeNow if you need to catch a flight or train as the drivers cancel constantly. We ordered a taxi to the airport 24 hours in advance, and the taxi was confirmed. Only after the taxi was two minutes late for the pickup the next day did I receive a message that FreeNow cancelled the ride. I had to place an order for replacement taxi four more times, with three of them again cancelling after already accepting the ride. Arrived at the airport 30 minutes late for an international flight. The “service” is total B.S.

Fare not set by app. At the end of the ride the driver sets the price not the app itself. The app will give you an estimated range but doesn’t make the final call as other apps do. Many of my rides on this app were more expensive than other rideshare apps. This is what’s written on their help area: My fare for this journey seems incorrect (vs. estimation) FREE NOW is a referral service and has no influence on fares. The taxi rates, including surcharges, are determined by the relevant cities, town or regions in taxi regulations that are mandatory for specific zones. Now charges fee for use. Been using the app for four years. Taxis used to reliably arrive with pre book, was quick and dependable. Now pre books are often not accepted, and rides frequently cancelled, so that I have no idea if my 5am ride will actually come or not. On top of this they now charge almost 1 euro fee every time you use the app. This app has gone from being good to being completely worthless. In other countries I’ll be using Uber, in Germany I’ll be using the telephone to call the taxi, just like our grandparents did, which is more reliable and cheaper.

Wont work when you need it most. I got this app bc I read that uber doesnt work as well in Milan. I was wrong. This app looked great when I played around with it but when it came time to call taxi to airport it kept throwing up errors about payment method not being supported. App defaults to apple pay when installed so I thought it would work. It didn’t. Ok, I set up a credit card in this crappy app all while stressing about lost time and it was still giving me payment method not supported. Tried to restart the app and got same error. I opened Uber app and scheduled a car without issue. Stay clear of this one.

Worked great in Rome. Totally used it 5 times in Rome and satisfied. The ride usually came quick. The price you pay is not guaranteed to be fixed. But it works this way, if the driver took a shortcut, you ended up paying less than quoted. There is a tip option on app *during* the trip, which disappears once trip ends. I’d like to tip sometimes, but not sure if or how much until the completion of the trip.

Need to be online to pay. Unlike Uber the app does not charge automatically. You must submit payment via the app or pay cash at the end of your trip. Found out the hard way when i found a Starbucks to get online to order a cab. Obviously when we left Starbucks I had no more service. When we arrived to my location the driver asked for payment via the app or cash and i said app thinking it was like Uber. Nope, had to find WiFi to pay the driver. Lesson learned. Why did i need to set up a card in an app?

Perpetrates Scams in Rome. I DO NOT recommend using this app in Rome. Taxi drivers have already started the meter long before you have even booked a ride (that’s right, you read that correctly), and you may start your ride at 8-10 Euros already on the meter (I had this done twice in one day). The app literally is just a GPS/maps service with a payment gateway. It claims no responsibility over the fares or the drivers. In addition, drivers are given free reign over routes and inputs into the payment gateway (the meters are not tied to the app). This app gives a false sense of security and trustworthiness but it is far less secure than Uber or Lyft.

Price charged different from price shown. I have recently been on several trips where the price charged was different from what was advertised in the app when I booked the fare. Just today, inexplicably VAT at 19% was added the the quoted fare after the fact (in Germany). I am not sure why they are playing these games but I am growing weary of it. Update: contacted customer support. They told me that the prices shown in the app for “ride” fares are suggested prices and that surge pricing may apply. This completely contradicts the in-app display which for “ride” fares uses the word “guaranteed”. This is super murky. Most people may not even remember the price quoted. But I take the same route a lot which keeps getting quoted as €9.90 and then it winds up costing almost €12 before tips. This is not about a dollar or two here and there but about systematically overcharging. I suggest all users take a screenshot of the price details before they get into a FreeNow vehicle.

Unreliable in Rome. Multiple times there were simply “No taxis available”. Made sure to pre book a ride the day before going to the train station, and when it came time for our ride it just never found us a car, said sorry, and canceled the request at the time we needed to go to the station. Downloaded Uber in a hurry and used it to book a local taxi instead, took 2 mins to find a car. Uber saved us when this app failed us. Giving a second star simply because we had ONE successful ride in Rome with Freenow.

Barely used. Despite other reviews, taxis aren’t supposed to start meters before they pick you up. If they do that, get out of the car. You haven’t gone anywhere and are not required to pay for a service you didn’t use. It is not charity. Any costs that would be additional from hailing a taxi on the street should be transparent to customers, so they know what they’re paying for. The app is not Uber and doesn’t have all the bells and whistles that Uber has, but that doesn’t mean it can take advantage of customers. This was a nice idea to try and save the Taxi industry. Advice: use taxis at airports or hailing from streets; otherwise use Uber; it’s reliable and you know what you’re paying for.

10x better than Uber in London. Fantastic app. Summoned taxis within 60 seconds to our hotel in Paddington every time. Took 4 taxi trips with a family of 4 across central London - cost way less than 4 travel cards and was door to door with friendly drivers every time. By comparison our Uber driver missed dropping us at the Tower of London - didn’t know where to drop us off, drove 1/2 mile further to find a drop off point. My Taxi trounces Uber (and I’m a big time Uber user in SF and NYC).

You’re on your own. According to their customer service, and to the experiences many users have had, the only thing mytaxi is intended to be used for is hailing a taxi. Full stop. Are they responsible if drivers keep cancelling on you? No. Do they try to implement any quality control with regards to who operates as drivers for them? No. Do they care or will they help you at all if you get ripped off? Absolutely not. Honestly, it’s probably not even worth it to use this app for hailing a taxi. You can just use it as a live map and then hail the taxi yourself. Or use any other app which cares about its users. Good riddance.

Beam me up, Scotty.. WhatsApp made it almost that easy! A group of five of us in Rome last October, with various activities, depended upon WhatsApp to get us to numerous sightseeing and dining locations painlessly. Even when we weren’t sure where we were, after walking as far as we could to see what was around the next corner in this magnificent city, WhatsApp always got us home quickly and safely. Thank you so much!

Inaccurate fares. We used this app while in Rome, Italy and we were better off with sticking with what we know (Uber). We were given an estimate of 11 € for a trip to a restaurant. When the taxi driver picked us up, the meter started off at 6€. The trip ended up costing over 24€, over double what we were given an estimate for. After inquiring about it with the taxi driver, he got hostile with us and threatened us by calling the police. We tried to take it to customer service and they claim that the taxis are able to start charging as soon as they accept a ride, not when they pick you up. This is why taxis are going to go out of business...they start charging you before they even pick you up and they’re dishonest about their fares. It took that one experience and we deleted the app and went back to using Uber. At least with Uber you get an honest estimate, the drivers are friendly, and in Rome they even drove a mercedez-Benz instead of a crappy mini van.

I feel tricked. I was comparing prices for my ride among three apps. I was pleasantly surprised by the lower predicted prices on this app, so I ordered a taxi. The expected price range was 34 - 52€. It immediately reserved 52€ from my bank account. After waiting for a long time because driver after driver canceled on me, I was picked up. The ride was smooth, and the driver was nice. However, the taxi meter was on. At the end of the ride, I was charge 74,5 € according to the taxi meter. The driver was surprised when I told him what the price the app promised me was. I paid it through the app, but I will never use Free Now again.

American traveling through Europe. I used Uber in some European countries. Not always the cheapest. Rome does not have Uber. You can pay with your phone without ever pulling out your card. Works just like Uber except you have to swipe to pay when the ride ends. So much more convenient than hailing a taxi that can’t charge your card or doesn’t have change.

It was a good app. I used this app couple of time on my trip to Rome. I would suggest using public transport since it is cheaper and very easy to use. I would use this app for longer distance and I usually got a taxi within 5 minutes of requesting it. The only thing that they did not explain in app was the price. The app gives you an estimate from the pick up point to your destination but then it adds additional charge from where the driver accepted the request to your pickup location.

Fake service. This app is like a fake service when you preparing to request a taxi driver it shows you that your order will take 3 to 5 minutes to reach you when you make the order it takes more than 15 minutes to request a taxi driver to come to you when you cancel the request they will take a fees for the cancellation so they basically Not saying the truth about how long does the taxi driver takes to come and sometimes they cancel your order because there is no taxi driver so why when I open the application it shows me that there is 10 taxi drivers around me it’s just wasting time

Great app and service. This app saved us in Rome. So many tourists and all taxis on the street busy. I didn’t know where I was and we had to get back to the train station so we didn’t miss our cruise ship departure. I texted the driver, told him I didn’t know where we were and he found us using location services. Taxi was only 11 euros too.

Difficult to get drivers. There have been several times I requested a ride that was never picked up by a driver, so I needed to cancel and was forced to then look for a taxi along the streets. This has become very inconvenient, especially when I have had luggage in tow. It would also be very helpful to have WhatsApp as contact numbers for those traveling from other countries. When I have been able to receive a ride with FreeNow the drivers are always very kind.

Trip to London. I found this application to be very helpful and useful. Due to labor strikes in London, I couldn’t figure out which bus or train to use from Heathrow. I booked my taxi using this App. I took the cheapest option from the app. Trip to Waterloo from Heathrow was on 45 pounds. It took 45 mins. The driver was nice and polite. I would definitely recommend using this application to anyone traveling to London.

Don’t use for taxis in London. Booked a taxi, got picked up by the correct taxi, got a notice that the driver cancelled the trip (after he started driving), I asked him about it and he said he didn’t. Suddenly I got a notice that they had assigned it to a different driver and we weren’t there so we were charged a cancel charge. Then the driver who picked us up went a long way and charged us double what the app said! I tried many times to get help from Free now and they were unresponsive and did not help. We used Uber on the way back and it was flawless and half the price. I would stay away from free now.
