Not sending correctly since iOS7. This WAS a great app until the iOS7 update. Sending notifications are not working correctly and as a result my client is sending me the same files 3-4 times each. This app is badly in need of an update to correct this. I am a long-time user of other great NCH software products and sent a bug report via the NCH Software website last week. Once this issue is corrected I will give it a 5-star review.

Can. The app works very well at recording. One of the main points of this app is to send recordings to your Mac via email so you can use them in the NCH's ExpressScribe transcription software. It simply will not send my recordings. I am able to send files from other apps that have this feature with no problem. Copying the files across with third party software like PhoneView doesn't help because the files are in a format that ExpressScribe does not understand (the emailed files are supposed to be in a format it does understand according to the documentation). Application is useless if you main way of working with recordings is on your Mac or PC. I contacted NCH product support. They responded by asking me to send them screen shots from my Mac. I explained to them that the product only runs on the iPhone and what additional information do they need. No response.

best one. I am a physician and have tried most other dictation apps. This one is the best by far. Key features are small files, direct ftp and email, simple use, easy pause-rewind-overright editing on the fly. No other app shares ALL of these features. Many thanks to the programmers who wrote pocketdictate!

Liked older version way better. I updated this app and lost all of the functions I used it for. I lost the voice activation and unlimited recording time. Updates should improve an app not limit it's functions, having previously raved and recommended this app prior to the update I must say I am feeling a bit cheated.

Bummer!. The upgrade deleted all my saved dictations! I have to re-record them all!

Was good now does not work. It worked perfectly until the iOS 7 update. Now, it does not work at all.

Useful App. Works pretty fine for me. The sent file opened and played back very clearly. I'd love to be able to run the app in the background though.

NCH!. Great and fast Dictation recorder. It gets you voice recording out fast!

Some problems. The program installed and ran okay but when I tried sending an encrypted file I could not open it up with Express Scribe. I could not find the user ID information to decrypt the file. I checked on the IPOD and there was no place that I could find to put any information regarding this in.

The Worst. Terrible. Freezes, skips and scrambles. Not worth the download.

Ayptoday.com. Love it!!! Easy to use and we have has great results. Highly recommend it.

Needs update. They were not prepared for the new iOS. The app no longer will send the dictations through email. Please update as soon as possible

Pocket dictate. When I try to email to my typist (either dct or wav file), the file arrives as a dat file & won't open on her end. No reply from tech support. Also, where does typist get codes for Express Scribe?

Missing Dictations. I updated to ISO 8 and all my very important recordings are gone ??!! HELP !

dont upgrade. the app is the best out there so if u are a new user, get it! that said, if u have the old version and up grade ull have to pay $5 for unlimited recoding and additional $5 for voice activation an additional $5 for removing the ads. i personally wouldnt have minded upgrading with ads to support the developer for the great job they did but $15 is a little too much. make the app the old way and sell it for $5 and ull get lots of customers

This version has all the needed features for daily use. I have used this app and the similar PC based version for some time. The previous version was quite useable but lacked a couple of key features. This version resolves those issues. Specifically, the newest version provides for automatically splitting the file in smaller parts so as to email without problems. The PC based version did this but it was left off the mobile version. Additionally, you could not easily retrieve files that were long other than re-recording them to another device - easily being the key word. . This version allows for transfer of files within iTunes. The combination of these two features in addition to the already wonderful simplicity and reliability makes it a worthwhile contender. I used the PC version for thousands of dictations. I have used Pocket dictate for several hundred on the iPhone and a couple of hundred on the iPad as well. I would recommend highly and I currently use it multiple times a day. Some in our office do not like the 'trust' one must have when the screen goes blank and times out but it keeps recording without incident. They like to look at their handheld digital recorder and see that it is working or hear the feedback from the phone in dictation system. They also do not particularly like the fact that you have to go through the swipe, enter passcode process on the iPhone once it goes into screensaver mode (although it continues to record). They want to press a button and have it immediately available - a limitation of the hardware and Apple more than anything else at this point. All in all a great app. Try it today. **Update in response to Apple's latest IOS update Sept 2012** This remains one of my most used and favorite apps. However, since the latest IOS update I have encountered some issues. Most notably, a press on the record button does not start recording. I have to press stop then record again and it will start recording. Please keep this great program up to date. I would be happy to support a paid version of this app.

Voice activation works - but never stops!. The voice activation feature is nicely adjustable, but never shuts off.

IT. The previous version had an auto numbering feature for dictations. Please bring this back as it was a vital feature.

Update of the app stinks!. The old version was fantastic. It was user-friendly and reliable. The updated version is worthless. I can't get it to deliver my dictation despite getting a message that says it has been delivered. It is no longer intuitive to use--none of the functions are where I expect them to be. And, I have to pay to get rid of the ads. Fail!

Fake update, just a money grab. The free version was awesome, loved it. I'm extremely disappointed by the so-called "update" which was just a money grab. All it did was lock the previously free version and take it off the market.

Previous Version More Functional. The previous version had an auto numbering feature for consecutive dictations. Tapping new would advance the dictation name by 1 after the manner "Dictation 1, Dictation 2, Dictation 3..." Please bring this back as it is a vital feature. Otherwise works nicely as a dictation program on the iPhone. Terrific sound quality and works great with Express Scribe.

Not working with iOS7. It was working great until I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 7. Now it crashes and I can't email it to transcribe.

I lost twenty minutes of a dictation. Because of stupid design. I did not realize once you hit overwrite it automAtically deletes every part of the dictation forward. And then no undo button? No warning that I am about to delete 20 minutes of audio that I spent two hours preparing for?

dictation not going through. Similar to some of the other user of this program, since I updated my iPhone software, I have been having problems with some of the dictation/e-mail not going through to me transcriptionist and then the resend feature not working. Hopefully they fix this problem soon which makes this software unreliable.

avoid at all costs!. if you are a happy user of the previous version of this app, called pocket dictate, turn off auto updates as soon as you can and do not upgrade to this version. the vendor lists 'bug fixes' as the reason for the update. rather, it is a money grab. it will break the app severely, requiring you to pay to get rid of 'ads', which include a nag screen that pops up every single time you hit the record button and makes you wait a few seconds before you can continue your work--not an ad, just a screen urging you to buy the app. i can't believe this isn't in violation of app store rules, to pretend it is an update but to severely cripple what was previously available for free. and by the way, when you run the update it will delete all your old files without warning, so be sure you have sent them somewhere. if you pay for the in-app purchases, which we did, it's not all fun and games after. the new version is full of bugs. they stopped auto-incrementing the file names. every user in our company who has installed it has the beginnings of their dictations cut off (and this is most likely because the programmer put in a delay to allow for the nag screen for unpaid users of the app, so every time you hit record the app goes and searches for proof of purchase). they added more options for file format, but if you use the DCT format and need encryption, you have the option between a much poorer quality file with a smaller size, and a higher quality file that is huge and takes a long time to send anywhere; the previous options were just fine, so there's no rationale for pushing us to these two extremes. the free version of pocket dictate was great, and we would have been happy to pay for it had they offered it for sale. i would pay for it now if they offered the old version exactly as it was. but the way they've gone about the upgrade is awful, and whether you pay or not you're getting an app that is much worse.

Awesome App and Company. I have a LONG commute between home and my graduate school 3 days a week. I use the time to listen to text books or assigned readings and have tried to use the apple VR. Also tried and was dissatisfied with DOD from the store. This is the answer to my challange of trying to take notes on material when commuting. I'm a PhD Candidate and use the NCH hardware for transcription (footpedal) of my Qualitative Research (Oral Interviews). It has saved me thousands of dollars on transcription fees. The interface with Express Scribe (An NCH Free Product) is great. When the email arrives, simply right click on the attachment tell it to open, and it opens in the Express Scribe ready for transcription RLW

Absolutely love this app. All the features necessary in a dictaphone app. It's easy to use and very handy to have in my phone. I also have it installed in my iPad.

21st Century Dictaphone. This app really is like a traditional Dictaphone, down to the rewind and fast forward chatter sounds! Because it is digital, you can easily insert sections in the middle of the tape, and overwrite dictation when you change your mind about the wording. When you are interrupted by a phone call or emergency, you can rewind to remember where you left off, then resume. You can add on later even after starting a new recording. You can set the sensitivity level for the voice activation feature so that it doesn't pick up your breathing or mouse clicks. Be aware that it will continue to record after the screen goes into power save mode, so if you are done recording, you should manually hit the "stop" button on the screen so you don't accidentally record something you didn't intend to. The recording does stop when you open a new app. Paired with a pedal-style USB transcriber and accompanying software, you can have a complete dictation/transcription system for your small office for a much more reasonable price than the Dictaphone systems used to cost. Also, unlike many of the other dictation apps, this one doesn't force you to use its pool of transcribers--you can email the recording to your secretary for transcription.

Great. NCH has always made great audio software which I've been using for many years. This is no exception. Small file size, great features. I love the VOX feature and that it uploads files through email. This is my primary EVP & spy recorder. I upload the WAV files to my PC to playback. 100% perfect. Thank you!

missing feature. Agree with previous review - prior version allowed for dictated file name to include an number that automatically incremented. Now all files are labeled the same name unless you manually type in any changed. Bring back the ability to automatically number the files.

Barely working, but no support. I upgraded to iOS 7 and still can dictate and send short files (<~8-9 minutes) via email. However, it seems to crash after splitting a long dictation and sending the first part to my secretaries who have the transcription software. Thus, the last part of the dictation is stuck on my phone, no way to access those files apparently. NCH's online support is for Express Dictate, not Pocket Dictate, and you can't call unless you have paid Platinum level support. NCH has not responded to my online question, either. Upgrade desperately needed!!!

Fantastic and best dictation app. This is a fantastic app. I use it for business when I'm on the go and don't have a laptop to plug my regular Olympus dictaphone into. I can dictate and then send direct to my reception for typing which I have done on many occasions and they can still use the Olympus transcribing software with this file version although it is not as compressed. Some suggested improvements for this app (even if it was pay version) is to be able to use the volume buttons on the iphone as a pause/rewind toggle in the same way as a slide switch on professional dictaphones. Using the screen pause button is not as natural or responsive. The camera uses this feature so the option appears to be possible. The second comment is auto finish of names for emailing. Present version requires full typing of contacts. Keep up the good work.

Great except iOS7. Brilliant app until I stupidly upgraded my iPhone4 to iOS7. Now sending dictation by email (which is the main reason I use the app) doesn't work properly... Please, please can we have the promised update?? Update: the latest version now works well and email sending has been restored... Thank you! Next on my wish list is Dropbox integration. Setting up an FTP server defeated me.

Easy. Very easy and intuitive

The best dictation app. I have tried 5 or 6 apps for dictating letters and this is the best one by far. Contrary to another review, you CAN pause - both during dictation and playback. Use the square (stop) button to pause. It doesn't crash like many others and can handle long dictations. It is easy and quick to use and is notably quicker at sending emails. It allows me to change the name of the dictation file before sending which is very useful. The quality of the sound files is excellent. I am very happy with this app and it makes my work life a lot easier.

Not a replacement for dictaphone!!. They say it has all the functions of an old fashioned dictaphone but it does not pause! This is essential if I am flicking through large documents as I need to pause often. I have suggested this to them and I see an update out but still no pause button. Not good enough so I am ditching their transcription system and pc software for a better one. Go elsewhere if you need a proper dictation app.

Doesn’t record!!!. Very disappointed!! The app seems useless in iPhone 8. I creates “dictations” but doesn’t record anything and the control buttons are not responsive at all. I paid $2.99 to remove the ads. Still doesn’t work. I want my money back!!!! Totally useless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Still crashing just after loading. Used to work OK but after a recent update it shows a title page for a few seconds then exits to the icon screen. Used rarely before but now deleting it. Using 8GB iPod touch.

Useful app. I use this app regularly to dictate letters and email to my own typist. Only issue is that there doesn’t seem to be a way to change the default “send from” address the app. It sends from my default iPhone email address and I’d prefer to set it up to send from a different email address.

Good. Needs More. Here's why:-. PocketDictate Navigation: • Record indicator in 100ths of a second. •Playback Ball and stick slider to show location. Playback Count up and down indicator in 100ths of a second. Sliding the ball indicator does not change the counters, so you don't know where you are until you press play. • Buttons to jump to start and end. • Buttons to move forward/back in small increments. • Input volume meter. WHAT IT DOES:- • Records, pause recording, continue recording. • Option to Overwrite anywhere, Insert a section anywhere (very useful, and uncommon in the 40 recorders I have looked at). Can append at end, or start new recording. • Files the recording. • Allows editing of name. • Playback with overwrite, insert, append. • Share recording by WiFi and email. • Playback volume good: in settings screen has input volume booster. (Suggest this should be on the recording screen). • Voice activated recording with input threshold level slider in Settings screen. VAR only works the first time you speak, then reverts to full time record, so is useless. Needs update. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO:- • NO mark and delete unwanted bits. • NO macros. Useful for storing often used phrases, and also for templates, • NO scrolling real-time waveform. This would allow accurate marking for cutting of even a single sound, e.g. a cough. Not possible on a compressed recording line. • NO Voice activated recording to avoid silences. (Apart from very first sound over threshold). • NO Bookmarks that can be inserted during recording, and playback, listed and editable. • NO ability to mark and save sections of a recording. • NO ability to shuffle and assemble saved clips to form new recording. OVERALL IMPRESSION:- • Good volume on playback, and good editing features make this more useful and versatile. Needs more work.

pretty decent. to the reviewer who said there is no pause button, there IS an equivalent of pause because you can stop and continue, so its the same as pause, you can stop the recording, and just continue recording from where you left off. I think its a very decent program, especially when its free. It crashes occassionally when you try to play the sound file in the list screen, but overall, decent, and the files it creates are very small so its quick to send off, and it uses wav format, so it can be played back by almost any device, extremely compatible.

No good with iOS 6/iPhone 5. Used to be good. Now can no longer create new dictation or delete old dictations.

Volume on recordings too low. The app seems to work ok - sounds fine playing back recordings on iphone, but if sending via email on wav or ECT formats the volume is barely audible

Get it now while it. I have the PC version of this software and it is THE software for voice dictation. You can easily record over, insert in a recording or record at the end with a touch of a button. It's also super easy to email your recordings to your typist or even ftp them. Huge scam!. This is the first time I have ever left negative feedback on an app. I was excited to use it for my office. Seemed to work so bought the playback peddle. Then my partners and I started losing long dictations and having trouble emailing them to our stenographer. So we paid for phone support. Despite numerous attempts to get support, they never once spoke with us. If there is a resolution to our issues we will never know. We have uninstalled the program and reported them to Visa as a fraudulent vendor.
