Lingvano - Learn Sign Language Comments & Reviews 2026

Fantastic. Awesome app! A bit expensive with 18 a month. Would have maybe thought 18 total. Guess it gives extra incentive to finish it quickly though. 🤷🏻‍♀️ We have been learning ASL for a while and knew the beginning signs that are taught. This app is allowing me to see how sentences are structured though. Which is mostly what I've been looking for. Reminds me a lot of an ASL version of Duo. Which is perfect. Thank you for creating it. We've been learning because of our ministry work and I personally feel it's my responsibility to learn ASL in general. Those that are hard of hearing can only do so much to communicate with the hearing. And they do very well- but I have it in my power to learn to communicate with them. So I should. And this app makes it very easy. Thank you.

Totally worth the price. If I could give this app 100 stars instead I would so do so this app gives you super easy lessons to learn sign and it teaches you the correct way to do it. It’s so easy it shows you and then I ask you questions about it and then review a couple of things and it has so many lessons you like never get bored of it because there’s so many new there’s like 100 and something, this app is so fun and you wanna learn sign language then you should totally download this app and if you can’t download the premium, then you can take the first one but if you can’t, then you might have to try a different app 100% recommended and worth the price

Not just ASL. Deaf culture, too!. I almost never take the time to write reviews, but this app is fabulous. I am on a 43 day streak, and I am so delighted with my progress. For context, I spent some time in deaf circles as a child, more than 40 years ago, but have had almost no ASL practice since then. In just a few entertaining minutes a day, this app has helped me regain everything I once knew and then some. It starts out deceptively easy, but has a phenomenal depth of both ASL (including grammar!) and Deaf culture. I am so glad that I got a year subscription. I often do a lesson first thing in the morning, but if I forget, it gently reminds me not to break my streak come afternoon. My progress has been such that, last weekend, I felt confident enough to show up at a deaf gathering in my town. I really like that there is no sound and that the teachers are deaf themselves. This forces me to really work on understanding sign language, rather than lipreading or depending on speech or captions. My only suggestion would be to add a feedback button. There are occasional text errors which could easily be pointed out if there was a forum to do so. overall, highly highly highly recommend this app. I’m having a blast with it!

Disappointed... I was so excited when I saw the ad for this app.. I have wanted to learn signing my whole life! The ad advertised this as a free app.. I downloaded it and started right away.. it was so easy and I was learning.. I could not believe all of the signs I learned in just a few days.. at the end of each lesson I was completely confident with what I learned.. I looked forward to getting on the app each day to learn a new sign.. but today.. day 8 wouldn’t let me continue unless I signed up for a free trial for another 7 days and then start paying each month.. over all it would be over $100 a year.. which might not sound like a lot to some people but I can’t afford it.. I actually thought there wasn’t going to be a catch to this one.. I was really learning and now I have to go back to nothing .. I’m so sad..

Was Helpful. I am currently in ASL III in my high school. I downloaded this app to hone my ASL skills but there’s no real way to advance myself past the basics that I don’t necessarily need. Also a lot of people are complaining about the pay wall but this app is providing a service that people would normally need to pay for. I understand the frustration but I don’t necessarily believe it’s an unreasonable ask. I will not be paying for it, but in theory I don’t believe it’s wrong. I also don’t appreciate that it doesn’t teach Deaf culture or etiquette; those two things are just and important as signing itself when learning. Culture and etiquette might be taught in later lessons, but after finishing the first chapter there’s no sign of those teachings. I think Lingvano does a good job at face value but there could definitely be improvements.

no notification settings. please add notification settings. when your app asked if i wanted streak notifications and i said yes, i assumed it meant only streak notifications. nope. already got a notification trying to get me to purchase a subscription (excuse me? i just downloaded the app TODAY give me a chance to decide without being too pushy. i understand ads for it in the app but notifications???) and another trying to get me to go back and start chapter 2. i turned off notifications for the app in my phone settings because i was irritated. i have had this app for ONE DAY. please let me control what notifications i receive. i was so excited to find an app teaching asl but i’m already turned off from this one because of this.

Great!. Everything is awesome about this, I have just started this app and it is already amazing at using. I have Doulingo and this is almost and exact replica of Duolingo but for sign language. That is not a bad thing at all! The ONLY down side of this app that I have experienced so far is it is a bit easy. Not because I have already learned some ASL already but it is because it gives obvious hints that doesn’t help someone learn. The “obvious hints “ that I am talking about would be that it asks me what sign is a certain word and it has two options, those options say what the word that sign is if that makes any sense. There is one thing that I THINK is something wrong is there is a mirroring button that I was expecting it to have a camera and make me do that sign and it would recognize what I am doing. It doesn’t have that. It does however have the mirror button and it does have the camera, but it doesn’t do anything besides show you yourself, nothing else, to me why even have the button. Everything else I love about this app and I don’t even think that you need the mirror thingy but I was expecting it because I was sure I saw it in an ad I saw. All I have to say is that. Thank you for reading my review.🤠

The cost to learn.. I have been learning ASL through professionally taught classes for the past three years, I saw this app being advertised by a well known deaf figure and whereas the advertisement stated that this was free to learn, I quickly realized that this was wrong. The format of this app is good for learning, and the feature for watching yourself sign was also a great way to encourage people's hands to be moving. I quickly breezed through the first lesson, second lesson, and within about fifteen minutes I had reached the paywall. I declined and the next day came back to see if it would let me continue, it did not. This block on simplistic things like the alphabet or words that are more important in everyday speech such as "where is __" or "who are you" or "what is your name" are all things that I believe should at least be accessible to the public; not to mention that without the alphabet, many would not be able to at least try to piece together a sentence. So, with all of that said, this seems like a great app for those who are willing and able to pay for its benefits, but free public classes teach in a similar or even better way and do not have the same cost.

100!. I absolutely love this app! I have in tunnel hearing loss which means I can hear out of one ear and I can’t hear out of the other. When I was a child I only knew so little of sign language and then when I got older I stopped using sign language because I got use to reading lips and having people talk loud so I can hear. Now as an adult my ears are getting worse and worse as I get older and I’m wanting to learn sign language so I can still communicate with my family and others. I already learned so much in just 10 minutes. I didn’t know how easy it can be to learn sign languages thank you for coming up with this app!! 😁

Premium?. Giving three stars because I think this is a great app, or has to potential to be. While I can agree it is easy to use/navigate, and good beginner friendly lessons. Why is there a premium? I consider ASL a staple in communication. While I’ve personally taken a few years of ASL, I’m by no means fluent. I wanted to use this app to become as fluent as possible for my job, and not for the money as I would have to be certified, but because no one else in my department knows ASL. Therefore, would consider this extremely important. If people truly cared about hearing individuals (or others like nonverbal or recently deaf) learning ASL, it would be free. I’m somewhat familiar with the deaf community and they typically love when hearing people know sign language. So why make us pay $18 a month for it? I do have free ASL resources in my area, but that requires me going out after long days at work. And what about people who don’t have those resources? Why make something so important so expensive? $18 is a meal on the table, a half a tank of gas, it helps with bills.

Seemed great but now I’m just disappointed. I was super excited to start learning and was really enjoying the first lesson only to make it most of the way through and not be able to continue unless I pay $18 a month. That’s way too expensive for an app, I don’t even pay that much for any of my streaming services. Even though I am disappointed with this, still giving 3 stars because it does have a lot of pros, The app was very easy to navigate and I was able to get learning right away. The lesson (the short amount that I got to do anyways) was very thorough and helpful, showing different ways something can be signed, and going over it multiple times in different forms such as, multiple choice, matching, etc. to help you remember. It also has an option to slow down the signing if it’s too fast for you to understand which I think is great for beginners like myself and definitely helps. So overall, it really is a great app, they just want way too much and don’t even give you a full lesson before they want you to start paying. Still debating if it’s worth the money or not.

Wonderful but.... This is a fantastic app. I found it easy to use and the spaced repetition is excellent. The vocabulary and conversations felt (for the most part) useful and appropriate for the real world. One complaint was the end of section reviews. They were so repetitive I didn't even have to see the word/phrase before answering because they showed the same one so many times. Also there were times I finished the reviews and there was an error forcing me to retake them. I just stopped doing those altogether. But that didn't matter too much and didn't affect the learning process. My bigger issue was the pricing structure. I 100% support paying for this app and even paid for a full year. It was (with caveat) absolutely worth the ~$100 for a year. BUT that should have been a one-time, for life price. I finished the entire series in about 6 months and the app hasn't added any new lessons since I bought it. There wasn't any point in renewing to pay another $100 yearly (or a monthly) fee to repeat the same material, but now I don't have access the the lessons I already took. That's really frustrating and disappointing. Again, I am not complaining about paying - an app like this shouldn't be free. But continuing to pay without new content is problematic and not worth it. I'm sorry I can't keep using this app as I really loved it.

Best ASL app available. This app is the single best ASL app I’ve found. From the videos being easy to follow, the actual grammar lessons instead of just rattling off words, the options to slow down videos and split screen the camera so you can follow along. The dictionary option is great when you need to brush up on a few words or when you’re translating with someone real time and the vocab trainer is great for daily use to make sure you’re training in all the material. Not to mention that Mano is adorable and the reminders and feedback it gives you are actually encouraging instead of slightly menacing (looking at that creepy green owl we’ve all tried) premium is a thing to unlock all of the content but honestly I don’t even think about it just bc of how worth it it is. I never subscribe to app things but this such a great value that it’s really no question

Great Learning Behind a Paywall. First off, the app itself is great. The teaching style is wonderful, it includes variations of signs, and direct translations (which personally helps me understand the grammar better). It reminded me of Memrise and I was excited to use it as a supportive study resource while taking my ASL class this semester. That idea was quickly shattered though. Unlike Memrise, you cannot go past a point in lessons for free. It would be nice to have the same setup where the paid version gave you better more customized ways to study while everyone is allowed to go through the lessons free. It's already a problem that ASL isn't taught in schools by default so deaf people are excluded in so many of our lives. Why keep that behind a paywall for people who are trying to fix that? On top of that, the payment options are wayyy too expensive. It's the same as the overpriced streaming services. I got a whole year of Memrise for $30, with this app that's not even two months. If anything changes let me know because I would love to use this app, but until then most of my generation is struggling to even pay rent.

Not intimidating at all!. If you are completely new to ASL then this is the app for you. It starts off with very common words that you would Utilize in everyday conversation. When learning a new sign the video will Repeat until you press the next button. You can even slow down the video if needed. It also teaches asl syntax. For example if you are hearing you would say “I can hear”. If you are deaf you actually sign “me hearing”. Knowing the syntax makes it easier to retain signs and helps you to know how to construct a sentence in asl. Right now I am Just using the free version but I will eventually move to the paid version bc this is such a good learning tool.

I don’t have 18$ to give you every month. When I got this app I was so excited to learn ASL. I did the first lesson then came back on the app just to see that it wasn’t completed. I tried to complete it but it told me to start the free trial. I declined the offer but then shortly realized that there was nothing else for me to do if I didn’t start the free trial. Somebody who is deaf, non verbal, or has a friend that is deaf etc. might need to learn ASL without going to an in person class. The first lesson only gave you words like hello, welcome, how, me, you, and fine. I wanted to be able to know and learn ASL, but to do that you have to start a free trial. not everybody is able to pay $18 a month for an app. I wanted to learn ASL and join the ASL community but now I can’t do that because i don’t have $18 to give you every month. I still gave this app 3 stars because if someone were to go premium and continue with the lessons the lessons are very easy to understand and show you how to learn the word very well even including a slow down button if they are signing to fast. But I am still mad because I would like to have a conversation in ASL which they give you if you continue the app with premium. In all the app would be lovely if it didn’t have that outstanding price you would have to pay before you could even complete the first lesson. Thank you for reading my review and I hope this helps with your decision of buying this app or not. 😊😊

It’s alright... I love the app, although it definitely has room for improvements. First, enough with the premium! If your deaf and broke, your gonna have to learn sign language some how. People need to learn and I think the premium is making thing limited especially for people that need it! If you don’t want to get rid of premium that’s fine, but at least put the price down a notch. Not even some of the most popular apps are that expensive. If I can’t remember how to sign “How”, I would have to go all the way back to one of the lessons and see a bunch of stuff that I’ve already mastered. It’s really annoying that I can’t just use the dictionary, or do some other lessons. Not everyone is rich and has money to pay for premium. I feel bad for the people that actually need the help. Overall, though, the app is great with loads of lessons (even for people that don’t have premium). Although learning some lessons are really quick it still is very helpful.

Great app. Worth the price. My plug and reminder, you are paying for Deaf individuals work compensation which is a big deal. Second, I have been taking classes with people in my local ASL Deaf cohort and decided to try this out to support my receptive and maintenance skills. It teaches features of sign, fingerspelling and builds in a very visual way that Deaf people teach as well as uses ASL grammar which, as a hearing person has been the biggest learning curve since the structure is different and using this app helps to demonstrate that and break it down in an interactive way. This is learning a second language, it doesn’t follow English grammatical rules, so if you become frustrated, yes, you’re learning a different language not just a visual version of What you speak. Looking through the upcoming courses and the concepts that this app will teach me in the future, I am excited to use this app as a support as I continue to interact with my local community and develop my ability to effectively communicate with them. Additionally, the dictionary tool is absolutely amazing and I love looking up a word I haven’t gotten to that I don’t already know. Yes, over the year it may feel pricey to some, but remember, you are compensating paying real people and this will help you to engage with real people in the world. The perspective of that can shift that this really is pretty small relative to the impact you can have on others.

An actual DREAM. I have always wanted to learn to sign. But it wasn’t offered in my school system and with my budget now, finding an in person class to pay for isn’t an option. I stumbled across this in an add. And did the first chapter because that is what is offered for free. I learned the greetings quickly and immediately dove into the free trial of o continue because I was so excited to keep going. Everything is explained so thoroughly and even if I’m slow signing right now, it’s so exciting to be able to understand what someone is signing to me. And I think it will be more than worth the monthly price until I’ve completed all the units. And it comes with three dialects to learn, so I could become multi lingual in sign. This is a true dream come true, and I’m so thankful that I found this app.

AMAZING!!!!. This has been such an amazing experience using this app. I have always wanted to learn asl as I think it is fascinating! I work as a nurse and surprisingly come across a lot of patients who are deaf or hearing impaired. All of the teachers on the app are amazing, Liz is my favorite and you will see her the most! I am on module 6 of the app and had my first successful shift caring for a deaf patient! We didn’t need to write down anything or use word boards for identification, we were able to communicate just with asl and he was extremely impressed, and surprised I knew asl. Such a beautiful culture that I cannot wait to learn more of and hopefully be involved in more!!!! If you’re on the fence, JUST DOWNLOAD IT!!!!

Sign Language. The first ever time I saw someone sign was in elementary school and I was fascinated by sign language. I never perused sign so much until I was in my late 20s. I had a daughter and my wife and I taught our daughter baby sign language. She is 3 and a half, currently and can hear and speak but she still uses the baby sign language her mom and I taught her. It’s absolutely amazing. During the first 3 1/2 years other than the baby sign language I never continued to learn more sign language. Until now. I have only had this app for 2 days now. I took the first few things I had learnt in this app and the next day I was telling my coworkers all about this app and how it truly works. This app helps in so many ways. You are able to focus on your hands. The movement. Being able to understand. It’s pure beauty. If there is ever any doubt in your mind about wanting to learn something new, I highly recommend giving it a shot. You won’t regret it!

Great app. Overall I love this app. I feel like most of the signers are very clear and easy to follow and understand. A few sign differently and that’s tricky but I feel that it’s helpful to have variety to help prepare you more for the real world. Their testing isn’t great. I’ve written the wrong word but it was close to the spelling of the correct word, even if they aren’t even remotely related, and I got it correct. I guess the app took it as a misspelling? Other times I’ve added “ing” or put tummy instead of belly and I get it wrong. If there are multiple answers and you miss one, you get it completely wrong. These things aren’t a big deal. But it can be a little annoying when you have to take the test again for little things like this. Also, the tests are so repetitive! I think it’s smart to use the same words over and over to really pound them in, but when the same person is saying the same exact phrase over and over I stop watching and just tap out what they’re saying. I don’t have to try at that point. It takes away from my learning. Other than the testing being so-so I do feel like I’m learning to recognize signs. I wish there was a way for me to practice them myself through the app like other language learning apps, but I have no idea how they could facilitate that. This is the best ASL app I’ve found and I’ve enjoyed using it overall!

Great app! Suggestion:. I've been learning ASL on the Lingvano app and I've noticed a lack of encouragement and opportunities to practice signing myself. I think it would be incredibly beneficial to add a section where users can practice not only recognizing signs, but performing the signs themselves. This feature could include cycling flashcards of English sentences, or sentences in the language of your choice, based on the vocabulary we've learned so far. Users would have to translate and perform the signs, and then flip to see a video of the correct signing and the signs in written format. I believe this addition would significantly improve our learning experience and align with your mission statement.

eh. I found this from a few advertisements and suddenly got the urge to start learning sign language for fun. I was I really interested while going through the first lessons, and then it showed that I had to pay to kept going.. well not exactly paying I don’t think, but I had to put card info. This app is for 9+, do you think all minors have that kind of money now? And speaking shouldn’t come at a cost at all. I’ve tried learning Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Tagalog. They all needed card info for me to keep learning. I’ve tried so many apps and nothing came fully free, I thought learning sign language would be different but it’s still just another language. I don’t get why we have to pay to learn these things. And people say it’s best to start learning at a young age. How can I learn if nothing will let me.

Good app, but... Honestly, I want to learn more ASL for the future and help me study for my ASL class in high school so I don’t forget certain vocabulary. The introduction is wonderful however the fact we have to buy a subscription to have more than the first chapter to me is ridiculous. The prices are rather high too. I understand the need to pay people, however this is just disappointing. I was excited to learn, because it’s hard to find materials and apps to learn ASL anyways, but was quickly disappointed upon seeing I have to buy more chapters instead of needing to watch an ad or waiting till the next day. It puts people who cannot afford these subscriptions but want to learn, like students and etc at a disadvantage once more. No one enjoys ads but the people would rather watch them instead of needing to pay needlessly expensive subscriptions. It’s a good app, don’t get me wrong, I just had my hopes up and was yet again crushed because of yet another pay wall.

Could be amazing :(. If you were to make the premium more affordable or even have lessons unlock on a daily basis then you would have way more people use your app! The first lesson I took was very easy to digest and very well made so I know the rest would be great! But I didn’t even get to finish the first lesson because I had to pay up. $18??? Really??? Not everyone can afford a membership like that! By having it at such a steep price your excluding people who would genuinely want to learn. And by doing so destroying future opportunities and relationships community-wise. How are people supposed to come together when they don't have the resources to connect with one another? I know most of asl can be learned for free online but to be able to have lessons put together in an easily understandable manner is so important to prevent the lost of understanding and interest. I'm not saying make it completely free, I completely understand everything takes time and money, but to at least have it unlock a lesson a day would be amazing! And you could have the membership as an option for people who want to learn at their own pace! If Duolingo can let you take 6 languages at a time for free with option of 6.99 a month for learning at one’s own pace, I think you can have a free lesson a day with a membership option of less than $18. I still can't get over that, $18? That's an entire paycheck for some people. Think about it and do better.

Not great…. I’m fourteen years old and want to learn ASL, it’s an overall okay app, the lessons are quick and simple, but there’s a ton of issues. To start, I don’t have any means of paying for the premium. I couldn’t even finish chapter one without it advertising that I pay to learn. I’m not def, but would like to be able to communicate with def or hard of hearing people and there are people who need access to this for their needs especially def people. The price is insane and I cannot afford that. It’s ridiculous. Another problem is the lessons. They’re easy to understand, yes. But they dump so much information that it’s hard to grasp just one thick that you’re learning. To brush up on one specific sign I’d have to go through an entire lesson and go through things I already know and that’d be aggravating to most. There’s definitely some improvement to be had.

Costs money, the ad said it wouldn’t. You can’t even complete the first lesson without paying the subscription. One of the main reasons I downloaded was because the ad said it was free. On the ad: I was hesitant to download this app simply because in the ad the person who was signing and trying to get the other person to download the app was being super rude. She was talking down to the person who didn’t know sign saying “You won’t download this app” “Got any more excuses?” And etc. When she simply showed interest in learning sign. One of the main points the signing person made was that it was free so you can learn sign and not have money being an excuse as to why you don’t learn but it’s a monthly subscription (which I’ve read is $18 a month) before you even finish the first lesson. This is ridiculous marketing and even more ridiculous pricing. If you wish to help deaf and hard of hearing people by teaching people sign claiming it’s free and being rude is NOT the way to do it.

Best learning thing ever. This is the best one to ever because I get to learn ASL because it is cool and I’m just doing this for fun, but if I meet anyone that is deaf, I can locate them with this app or with a friend who wants to like you know you lose this app you can always let them know. Also whoever made this app if you’re still alive look at mine look at my review five star review, it’s just too good too good I might forget to do some lessons because I always miss out on Duolingo. I hate that thing a little bit. I love it teach me Spanish but then I when I don’t wanna learn Spanish I literally just go like I don’t wanna do do a Lego, also Duolingo is like the best thing on earth. Anything else do do lingo is just me trying to say Duolingo so make sure this app is fun good and better for kids Sia.

Love this app, could take some hints from Duolingo. I like this app a ton, I’ve been learning ASL but have struggled to keep up with things the past few months and this app has helped. However, as someone who aready knew a bit of ASL, I wish this app had a placement test so that I didn’t spend weeks learning the basics and could skip ahead to what I don’t know. The price is also a bit steep when comparing this to free learning apps like Duolingo. I would be willing to pay as I understand this is a high quality learning modality for a unique language, but $5-$8 a month is more reasonable. Hopefully as time goes on the price goes down.

Worth every penny!. I initially started learning ASL due to a crush…and this app has exceeded my expectations in helping me achieve conversational fluency! Over the past 7 months of daily study, my vocabulary has expanded to about 1,000 signs. I've nearly completed all the lessons and am now focusing on mastering them through the vocab trainer feature. This progress would have taken me years through traditional classes alone. While I also work with a weekly private ASL tutor who is Deaf and am considering formal classes in the future, this app has truly been a game changer for me. It has not only enhanced my communication skills but also introduced me to a vibrant community and culture within the Deaf community. Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning ASL!

Landscape view needed. I downloaded this app to my tablet so that I could prop the screen up and see the signs and then use the mirror feature more easily. I was very disappointed to learn that it has the same view as on my phone. I had really hoped that I could take advantage of the larger screen to see things more clearly, and more comfortably use the app. How am I supposed to practice using my hands if I can’t prop my screen up easily? My neck gets tired looking down at it. Other than the view limitation, however, I am loving the app! It works well for my learning style, and I am finding myself making progress quickly. I’m also remembering the signs much more easily than when I took in person classes. The repetition schedule is perfect for me!

Good, but could be better. First off, the price is crazy expensive and I didn’t see an option for a yearly discount which I do for Duolingo. Speaking of, unless these are owned by the same company, a lot of this app seems to be copying Duo. Again regarding price, the app is quite…ugly. The appearance and interface could use a major overhaul, as well as the logo. Branding matters and maybe if it was pleasant to look at, I could possibly justify the monthly price. The trial was so short I couldn’t even become interested in wanting to pay for it. When there are so many other free options out there, I’ll have to go elsewhere. TLDR: I did learn a few basic words in the super short trial. While I understand deaf people mouth words as they sign, I found this distracting while learning because I was just reading their lips instead of focusing on the hand movements. App design is unappealing and dated but content is decent.

Not enough Available without Purchase. The small lessons that are available for free seem to be great to help people unfamiliar with sign language learn and understand the structure and inner working of the language. There are tidbits and need-to-knows sprinkled into the lessons. However there is not enough available for free. Perhaps I’m too hard to please, but I do believe that the majority of it should be available for free. A learning tool that isn’t out for your hard earned money would be nice, and this app in particular seemed to be off to a good start until I noticed that anything past the 1st module is locked behind a paywall. So now I know how to say Hello and such, but I can’t get any further than a greeting without spending money. I think that learning should be above payment and it’s so sad to see what could have been an amazing resource fell into a capitalist trap.

It’s awesome but... I really like this app but I have big beef with premium. Things like the review at the end of modules would make a bit of sense to need premium for, but all I can do without paying is the first module NOT including the review at the end. I’m neurodivergent and can sometimes go nonverbal. What if I don’t have a pen and paper or an electronic device to communicate?? Sometimes I can’t force myself to speak which means I’ll have no way to communicate my needs. And what about those born deaf or went deaf before they learned a good amount of spoken words?? What about mute people?? I and many others with these or similar problems may not have a good support system or the money to take ASL classes or pay for fancy apps. This app was really good! It explained stuff and had multiple methods of teaching. But what’s the point of having it if it ain't accessible to as many as possible?? This seems like exploitation if I’m being honest and that’s not a good look. Please change this.

Disappointing. I’m a high schooler who wanted to learn asl as a basic skill before applying to a new job where I’d work with kids and I worried there could potentially be deaf kids since I encountered deaf people for the first time at my old job. I was really excited but I got through all the available material within an hour before I was stopped by a paywall. Again I’m a high school student and currently unemployed and I absolutely would’ve tapped into my savings for this but I just can’t afford $18 monthly payments. I think it’s unfortunate after seeing how tiring it is for deaf people to communicate with hearing people who’ve never considered learning to sign because it didn’t affect them and I’m sure many would be willing if it was more accessible but I don’t think prices that high are helpful to hearing people willing to learn or deaf people who struggle daily communicating with people who can’t sign. Accessibility would help all sides so I don’t understand.

Great self-paced learning. I love the bite-sized course sections. It is extremely easy to keep up with learning ASL when it can be done in short intervals at my own pace. In addition, the training quizzes and dictionary makes retaining skills easy and fun to do. Three things I especially like are the videos of real people signing (instead of cartoon characters or still photos), the inclusion of several different people signing (instead of just one reference person), and the dialog sections which provide good back-and-forth conversations. This ensures a real-life variety of signing that will make in-person situations easier to acclimate to. All of this uses regular, realistic conversations so the experience feels as real as is possible. Additionally, a website version of the app can also be accessed which makes home learning easy, and your learning progress syncs between the app and the website so you can pickup right where you left off on either device. For me, this app has been fun and extremely helpful. The subscription cost is perfectly reasonable, plus you get a chance to try it out for a while before you have to put any money into it.

Great & Fun!. I am a hairstylist and I realized that there is an entire community out there that probably can’t or won’t get their hair done because they can’t have someone come to interpret for them, or maybe they feel they might be judged or fear, because writing things down for communication goes so far. I have been using the app for 5 days now and I have learned so much! I am so excited to get closer to being able to converse with the deaf/hard of hearing community. Overall, the app runs great and it’s clear where everything is and what to do. the ONLY issue I have is sometimes, the instructors don’t sign the same, and I end up getting confused. I know the letter N has the thumb between the pinky and ring, but another instructor just puts their two fingers down, so I was confused and ended up getting things wrong.

Learning fast. I just started a few weeks ago and I can already have basic conversations. I’ve tried other free ASL apps and they really don’t compare. Apps like duolingo will teach you the word orange and America before you learn basic greetings. Like why would I need to say the word tea before the word hello? Lingvano mainly focuses on the basics first before delving into the more comprehensive things. Only thing I would like is for them to show different angles of certain signs or give instructions on proper finger placement. The sign for dog for example is hard to understand. I can’t tell what she’s doing with her fingers. Other than that, I am learning fast and I think it’s worth the money.

If you’re invested, this app will change your life!!. I downloaded this app 19 days ago. I am now on unit 3, and I know 264 words so far. I know my alphabet, I can count to infinity if I wanted to, I know my days of the week, seasons, months, I can tell and ask about time. I know simple conversational signs and so much more. This app is perfectly laid out and organized with units, chapters, and lessons. There is a study tab for vocab, spelling, and numbers. This app inspires you and hypes you up to keep up a daily streak. You can get on there and study for a few minutes, and that will count as 1 day towards your streak. Go at your own pace, and have everything explained thoroughly. I say give it a shot ❤️

Price. Since I was a kid, I grew up watching shows in sign language so I do know a bit and I was excited for this app because I could learn everything and actually focus on it only to get through the first chapter to be see I have to pay $20 a month, honestly, I would be fine paying $20 if it was a one time purchase a lot of people are interested in this app and $20 from everyone would be plenty. I feel like a flat fee would be a lot better than monthly $20 and a lot more people would be interested in the app and buying it. other than that, I loved the way it went through things and how you have an option to slow it down so you can focus on the hand movements and see exactly how they work and even at the end it puts it into a conversation for you to understand rather than just one word at a time.

Yay, finally a Lingvano iOS app!. I tried some of the learn sign language / ASL apps on the store and they ranged from not great to “ok”. I found Lingvano online and was hesitant to subscribe to a service just through a website but it turned out to be the right choice. Their product was good and their teachers are good. The guy doesn’t sign as clearly but it’s good real world practice, but the main lady is great and watching the dialog between the two is super helpful. Their lessons test you as best they can without having a teacher actually seeing you sign. Multiple choice, reading dialog, and quizzing you on ASL concepts and rules. If this all translates into the app, it will be the best ASL app on the App Store because the content is great. If not I will update my review with what needs improvement, but their lessons are top notch! Very high quality. My only current critique is I really wish this was an iPad app, but hey it’s better than nothing. Really looking forward to using it and being able to manage my subscription via my Apple account.

I LOVE THIS APP SO MUCHH. This app helps me learn so much words every time I see a deaf person I always know what to say this app is very useful whenever you have a new student and they are deaf this app will help you and learn you more and more every day it's kind of like Duolingo but in the better version app even show you how you look like when you're doing the sign!!really recommend this app if one of your family members is deaf or one of your class is deaf you're going somewhere and you see a deaf person it teaches you lots of stuff I love this app I recommend for everybody who doesn't know sign language and a lot of sign language now because of this app very useful really recommend it for people who don't know sign language.(:

I like it but room for improvement. I do like this app, but I think there is so much room for growth. The videos are a really great way to learn (although they do stick at times, even though our internet is extremely fast.) And I love the option to slow down the videos. All that is helpful. I do think the curriculum moves VERY fast. Things only get repeated through the module and by the next one you don’t revisit the content anymore, just learn a lot of new words. Since the modules are short and done in a few minutes, it’s just a few minutes of practice before the next batch of new words is introduced. I also wish it were an option to revisit mistakes to make sure they’ve been learned from. I really love the way Duolingo approaches teaching (Repetitions, presenting the same information different ways, gamifying the experience…) I really wish they would teach ASL. By comparison this app feels bare for sure.

This app is absolutely amazing, but…. I love this app, learning sign language so that i can communicate with deaf and hearing people is very fun. i love the way there are videos and at the ned of each lesson, u can choose to redo it, go over the lesson or move on. the only thing i don’t like about this app is that u have to pay for it. i knew that it would be too good to be true, amazing lessons, great reviews, and amazing quality, until i’m on my last lesson and before i could even start it, it’s making me pay to continue. i’m obviously not going to pay but really, u guys are making a great app that millions could use, to make millions not use it by paying?!? like this is very annoying and i would like to use sign language to communicate with certain people and because i have to pay, i won’t get to do that along with hundreds of thousands of others.

Love this app!. I really wish there was a way for me to flag signs that I need more practice on. The app itself does have a progress bar that tells you signs you need work on, but I think it is a bit too lenient sometimes and I wish I could highlight signs that I don’t feel confident about. Especially since there’s some signs that I’ve guessed on and managed to get right, so the app won’t register it as a sign I’ve struggled with.. it also seems like it takes 3-4 times in a row of getting a sign wrong for the app to put it in the “Needs more practice” section. I’m sure some people love that it gives you multiple chances, but I’m the type of person who wants to have every mistake noted so I can study it, even if it was a mistake. I do really genuinely love the app though, I think it is so awesome. I have been wanting to learn sign language for a long time but didn’t know where to start. This has been a fun and easy way to learn. I’ve even got my boyfriend to start learning with me so I have somebody to practice with! It feels really good knowing I can do my part in helping the community be more accessible. :-)

Best ASL app !. As a CODA encouraging other friends and family to learn ASL, I wanted to be able to give good recommendations for ways to learn. I saw ads for this app and tried it out myself and I can say it’s a fantastic way to learn, not just the signs, but the grammatical sentence structure of ASL which is different than English/sign-english. As well as learning about the facial expressions that are used with signs for context. I am very impressed and can’t wait to recommend it! My only suggestion for the app would be, to be able to add friends and be able to see and congratulate their streaks like you can on other apps. On this one I can only text message my streak to my friends using it, rather than inside the app.

Disappointing. Just wanted to brush up on vocab.. I realize the time and effort it takes to make an app like this, but $18 a month is way too steep. That’s the price of Netflix and Disney+ combined—almost an entire hour of work at my job. Inflation isn’t really a reason, and you’ve got a simple word like “Good” locked behind a paywall. I already know a lot of ASL, however, I wanted to learn new vocabulary related to the food we serve where I work. I know most words like bacon, toast, coffee, milk, etc, but I’d forgotten simple things along those lines like sugar, ice, and juice. I used the dictionary after it interrupted my first lesson to try and force the trial down my throat, but I was only able to look up a couple words before it again tried to force the free trial on me. You don’t get to finish lesson one, and you don’t get the dictionary at all, unless you’re paying $18 a month. Here’s what you get to learn for free: Hello, Bye, How, Me, You, Deaf, Hearing, Thank you. After that, it was guessing on signs like: Book, Swimming, Baby. So if I ever have a question about a word after learning ASL from your app, you expect me to continue to pay $18 a month for that dictionary? Absurd, and doesn’t help the deaf community if it’s all behind a paywall.

Interesting. I have to say so far the app is really good I haven’t found an app like this one. I’m more of a virtual learner and this did the job. The reason I want to learn sign language because I was never taught this language in high school or at my university I wanted to try something new. Found it interesting being a ale to learn sign language there’s soo many deaf individuals in this world where it’s hard for people to even understand and I want to be one of those people to learn a different language that is not used as often as it should be. So far the app is wonderful love the face expression is your looking for something virtual this is for you. Hope this help.

Great teaching app but…. I spent forever looking for ASL apps the are for beginners but that increases the difficulty. This app does that! It quizzes you in differ ways and goes back over old signs so that you remember everything better! It has lessons, a sign dictionary and “trainers” so you can practice specific stuff (finger spelling, number, signs…). This app is by far the best I’ve used so far and comply worth the money! I’ve had no issues with it, and I’ve had it for almost 2 yrs now! My only issue is I want more!! I wish they would periodically put new content as they haven’t since I’ve had the app. Since there’s no new content you should be proficient in the language after a year or 2 if studying constantly!

Meh. It was fine at the start but then it turned out I would of had to pay to finish it which I find kind of disappointing bc I want to learn it but I’m not gonna pay to learn it.

Ehh. So this app is amazing. I can communicate with my non-hearing residents because of this app the only down fall is you must Pay. You don’t actually finish a module because if you want to “Finish” you have to pay.

Great. This app is great, helps me learn signs easily highly recommend

ASL. So far I have had a great time learning with this app and I didn’t even buy premium so far 5 stars!

Need more content!. I love Lingvano! I tried learning ASL with friends during covid but we didn’t have the right learning techniques or resources. These lessons are great, but I’ve completed all the content and need more

Great starter lessons. I really love this app. I can’t afford to get the subscription so I have to say goodbye to it for now but I found it very easy to use and better yet ideal to learn. I really wish some more of the basic signs had been here just so I could be friendly but it’s an exceptional app. When I can afford it I will get the subscription. Still worth trying out to see if you like it. We need more equality and accessibility in the world so it doesn’t hurt to learn just in case. I forgot to say about the dictionary! Awesome resource that works if you’re doing the free version too.

If I could give it a 0 I would !. It is a really good learning app for sign I learned a lot in 1 day but then it stopped me. I thought it was because I had done the amount given in a day with out the subscription. I was very wrong you get to make a goal and account just to do mostly complete 1 lesson. You can’t do another even after a day without paying ! Such a scam I was really excited. I thought it would be like duolingo but for sign language!

Great but. It’s a great app where you lurn and have fun, the problem is that I can’t pay so I was wondering if we could make an offer maybe so we can still learn but make it more open for everyone.

Not happy. I really liked the app but I am not going to pay for it monthly. I wish that it was said before that after a certain point you will have to pay almost 30$ a month. I hate subscriptions like this as it is basically a scam. Why not just make the app cost money when you originally purchase it. If that was the case I would have bought it and probably recommended it to friends and family. But now I am going to delete the app and warn my friends and family who are trying to learn sign to not use this app.

Only free for 5 days. Only free for five days then you must pay subscription. It doesn’t tell you this until after you sign up.

My Review. I hate to say this but the app is worth the money they’re charging, because there teaching methods and strategies are interesting and helping. My son and I have fun using the app and learning who to communicate and help better learn.

❤️😁. I really like this app it’s super easy to use and very helpful

Amazing!. I’ve always wanted to learn ASL but I had no idea where to start. Lingvano is easy to use and the teachers are great!

How to profit off accessibility. EXTREMELY disappointed at the very very high price. It starts so good and you feel like you’re actually learning and then after a couple dozen signs, BAM, pay us! And then they have the audacity to claim paying makes the world more accessible. How about you make the world more accessible for all!

Excellent. I have a hard of hearing 3yr old daughter, and I have a learning disability, this app has made signing very easy to learn with whatever time I have available. I had a real deaf in-person teacher before this and it’s accurate to what she was teaching me too

Best. I love this app! I finally get to continue learning ASL when I first knew and learned a bit of sign from my old school Tevi miller it was a great and special experience that not very many people have.

You have to pay??. Like why do we have to pay a bunch of money for learning ASL like idk what my friend is saying to me and she has to type it out!! Just let me use it for free pls

Worth The Money and Time. Honestly, the first app that I’ve seen from an insta ad that I’ve paid for, use, like, and learn from everyday. On top of teaching signs, it teaches you the important elements of ASL, and proper grammar. It provides lots of opportunity for practice and the finger spell practice has been so helpful.

Must pay subscription. This would’ve been a five star rating, I genuinely enjoyed the app and it does help me learn sign language language, but you can only do a few lessons before you eventually have to pay and the minimum is $23 a month Canadian. You do get a seven day free trial although it’s just too expensive for me. I feel like if it was around $11 I would be more willing but I’m not willing to spend $23 a month using an app to teach me sign language when I have other opportunities to learn it without having to spend that much.

Amazing! Recommend. This app really helped me to learn more sign! And the teaches are clearly explaining very well totally recommend

Price for premium is CRAZY. How can you justify your pricing for full access? Shouldn’t this be about making learning accessible and not turning a profit? Brutal!!!

Helped me so much. I want to understand at least basic ASL so I can communicate with all I’m 13 years old and it has been flexible and slow enough to comprehend.

READ THIS. A lot of people are complaining that it is very expensive to learn using this app. the truth is, that’s the way it is, Duolingo it has ads, or you pay equal amount to remove them. ASL is a complex language and it is well worth the money if you are actually investing in learning the language properly, it costs much less than lessons so really take a moment to think about all the work that goes in to this app before you say it is too expensive.

Not very good. You. Can’t do much you have to pay does not really do that much stuff

Best ASL App. If you’re looking for a comprehensive program, look no further. Each lesson builds upon the last. I’ve been using it for two weeks and I’m so impressed how much I’ve learned. There are thousands of high quality videos to help you learn. I appreciate the dictionary and the trainer. For those who feel this should be free, you get what you pay for and if you’re serious about learning ASL, this app is worth every penny. If not, there are other free apps and YouTube. I highly recommend this app.

This is awesome!. Thank you to everyone who created this. I am learning sign language! I am so grateful.

Ok but…. You have to pay to continue. It says ‘free’ but the only free thing is learning ‘yes’ and ‘no’. Almost $30 for ONE MONTH! You should have to pay to learn a language. Thank you, but no thank you.

I really like this app. I’ve had this app for five days and I’ve learnt a lot I feel. I love how they explain why, how and when to use facial expressions properly. They teach you how to use the grammar properly as well which I thought I’d just have to catch onto so I’m glad they explain it

Fantastic learning app. I’m a visual learner and this app provides more than one way to test you for ample amount of learning styles 🤘🏼

Wonderful app. I see a lot of comments about this app being too expensive or that it should be free. There are no ads on this app which is wonderful because you can just focus on signing so naturally you have to pay for it. I have learned so much already and I love that there is further information on grammar and it isn’t just a memorization app. I have been on other apps where they just teach you the signs but this one shows you how to have conversations and understand how to sign a sentence without all the extra words that we speak. When you pay for the year and break it down per month it truly is not expensive. Cook at home twice instead of going out for dinner and you’ve paid for a year of this app. Way cheaper than a tutor or paying for a school course. Highly recommend this app!

Challenging yet Fun. I enjoy learning with Lingvano because it is professionally presented , challenging and I can work at my own pace. I also enjoy the challenge of keeping up the learning streak. I am motivated to continue every day.

Sooo good. I love this i can now communicate with my mom and grandma

I luv this. I wish this game and or app had a creature we’re you can type a hold sentence and learn how to sign it for free and without having to unlock it.

No cost. I don’t know why people are saying that the app sucks or costs money. I am using it perfectly well.

So Easy to Get Started. Wow, thank you for making it so easy for me to get started on a goal I had shelved

The perfect sign language app. So basically, the sign language app is really fun. I was just doing it for fun, and for educational purposes, cause I was learning Spanish at the time, and I thought it was gonna be too struggling, but it was actually really easy. And now I know how to do basic sign language. I can have basic conversations with And gestures. Now it’s super fun to know different languages. Especially unusual ones. I recommend for beginners. A quick tip is to note your sign language. Just down and practice.

At you’re own pace. The signs are clear and can be repeated until you have them.

Easy to understand lessons. These lessons are affective and simple to understand. I was nervous to learn but feel confident after using this app! Thank you 💖

Learning ASL for fun. I’ve dropped off because of life and still made the effort to come back WHILE suggesting to everyone when the topic comes up 👌👌👌

So much potential. The layout on my phone(iphone)was horrible!! Overlapping things, things off the screen and not able to tap them. And then other little things, if you got 100% right it would count up and go from 99 to 10! Just stupid little things that made the app seem amateur and unpolished. If you want people to pay for it, you need to make sure it works perfectly, and it doesn’t.

Cool!. This is so cool! Good for understanding your friends and family (that is mute or deaf)

Fun like a game. Thank you this is really good

language app. Love that I can learn at my own pace and go back if I need to I quite enjoy this app!

Not free. You can not learn properly if you don’t pay it sad

U need this app!. I love this app! If you wanna learn ASL this is the best app. The monthly subscription is a bit high but worth it.

Love this app!. Great app! I will subscribe again in the Spring. I’ve learned a lot. Highly recommend.

Easy to learn but pricey. I love this app! It’s taught me some phrases in a short amount of time but now I can’t complete the second chapter without paying. I do think it’s worth the investment but not everyone, myself included, have the privilege to afford that. That’s why I put 4 stars.

It would be more bénéficias if there were video interactions between learners online or create learn. You can create learners groups according to their time zone and a day in a week for online video interactions

Worth it.. Yes, it is paid. However, the app works really well, the curriculum is well-structured, the practice modes do a good job of reviewing vocabulary already seen in previous lessons (including separate review modes for just fingerspelling or just numbers), and the Deaf teachers and others involved in putting together this app and the lessons deserve to be supported. There is also a Facebook community for users of the app, and through that connection I have attended a free webinar about Deaf vs. hearing culture (and I know others in the community have also joined in Zoom practice sessions with each other, I just haven’t done that yet). I work with a Deaf colleague and students with developmental disabilities and communication issues, and this app has been a fantastic supplement to a course I’d taken (through BRCCED, the Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf) to help me communicate better with my colleague and my students.

You have to pay. I was really enjoying this app and was so happy i got to learn ASL. But when i had to pay to continue i was so mad! This is outrageous and i shouldnt have to pay to have to pay to learn sign language. Definitely should change this. Do NOT buy this app if you poor, (like me)

10/10. it gives you videos and a mirror to see if you’re doing it correctly. as a curious teenage girl, this is very exciting for me

Suggestion for improvement. Love the app. It would be awesome if I could bookmark certain sings from the dictionary. Would be even better if I could have a trainer session for practice which only took from those bookmarked signs 🤟🏼😇

Amazing and super well done. I came from a Spanish speaking country and I’m now living in Canada trying to get use to and learn the ASL sign language and this app is making me learn so fast and so well. It’s very hard for me to put this down!! One of the best app ever created. Love my deaf community

The people doing the signs are chopped as shyt. It’s true.

4 out of 5. It’s similar to other language learning apps and it runs well. My only issue is after a few quick lessons you’re stopped with having to start paying if you want to continue. A lot of these apps at least give users for example 5 hearts for the day. if you waste them by getting 5 questions wrong then it requires users to either pay or subscribe. I’m not hating on their way of making money but I’d rather know up front the app has about 10 minutes worth of free learning before you have to pay or just uninstall.

Good but frustrating. This app is good, but the curriculum moves too fast with not enough review. They start you off very easy and then jog through to really complicated and long dialogs where its so hard to follow. And a lot of the words aren’t revisited in a way that helps build memory, I’ll learn a word once and then not see it again until it’s in the middle of a huge dialog 6 lessons later and I’m expected to be able to figure it out? I’m currently a frustrated customer. For as expensive as this app is, I wish it was better designed for learning constructively. This is making me think they didn’t test it with actual users

Great app for beginners. I’ve always wanted to learn ASL, and this app makes it very easy to do so. The clear and easy to understand and copy signs make learning easy. I also love the mirror feature which allows you to use the camera on your phone while watching the models to make sure you’re doing each sign correctly. The paid version is pretty spendy at $18/month so for now I’m just sticking with the free version. I’m really enjoying it, however, and if Nahas meaning ASL both easy and fun!

I love it. This happens so good if a teacher sign language there are absolutely nothing that makes me not like this app. I’ve been using it for 15 minutes every day. It’s amazing you need to try it on an ad so if you go to Jorge Mitchell elementary school if you go to if you eat lunch if you’re in second grade if you eat lunch first and then go outside for recess please go to the bench and I’ll teach you sign language but with this app it’s the best app in the world you need to get it and then if you come to my side movie Gratiot, you know all the things I try to get you to know, so make sure you try. This app is the bomb, and so far no ads

Lost Motivation. This is a wonderful app. My reason for not giving it five stars may seem dumb, but I was really on a heavy streak and I was excited to learn. I had to pause for a few days because of work reasons but when I came back the visual progress was gone. There were something about seeing the progress that allowed me to keep going. But when it went back down to a one day streak I lost motivation. I know it’s not the best reason, but at the time it felt like it was all for nothing. The visual cues gave me a reason, motivation to keep learning —- It wasn’t the streak that motivated me. It was the visual that let me know how far I had gotten.

Research your apps. I learned a couple of phrases, but I don’t think they repeat them enough so where I can actually remember them. I like Duolingo’s format better, because they repeat everything to get it stuck in your mind. Also, the Lingvano app isn’t free. I was recommended this app by a family member, and I finished all the basic lessons in about 20 to 30 minutes. As soon as I finished it asked me to pay money to learn more. No where did I see in the App Store that you have to pay for the app. Lingvano, just make people pay for the whole app instead of making someone install your app just to be hit with a screen telling you to pay to access more. Do your research people.

Wife of deaf husband. I have been with my deaf husband now 12 years (7 married) and I have been struggling to learn ASL slowly in that time (he has a cochlear implant and doesn’t prioritize signing, but when I sign it helps our communication tremendously). I already love this app. So easy to use and effective. I’m learning things I didn’t know before already on the first go. But it’s not too basic for someone that has a decent foundation of knowledge as well. Thank you! My goal is to be fluent by the end of the year!

Learning ASL | Beginner. Hello! I came from the app to write this review. As a teenager who is trying to learn ASL for self knowledge, and for communication with those who are not hearing so far this app has been extremely helpful. It gives the choice of "mirroring" which is the button to the left of the person signing. I love it! Everything shown and typed on the app is accurate. Not only does it teach you the signs and how to sign them, but it explains specific things thoroughly about ASL. So I 100% give this a 5 star rating and think if you are a beginner trying to learn ASL from scratch, this app is the perfect app for you!

Pictures Won’t Load, Progress Constantly Lost. This could be a great app. I was ready to subscribe and pay the high fee because I like the way it’s set up. However, going through the free trial showed me it would not be worth the fees… every time a picture won’t load, I’ve submitted error feedback; usually about 30 times per session. It wouldn’t be as bothersome if progress continued, but every time I have to go back to the dashboard to reload my progress is lost. I then have to go through the whole unit again and pray that the pics will load. Repetition is good, but 30 times over to get through a unit is insane, especially if you’re paying for it.

Awesome ASL app in the midst of much … crap out there….. I’ve been studying ASL for a couple years, casually. I know a lot, but it’s random, you know? So I expected the introductory lessons to be basically just silliness for me. But wow, this app is so rich in content, and does so much repetition. One of its major strengths is the videos - I still have to use the “slow” feature jut before this app, I just couldn’t follow when other people signed, and now I feel like I might actually be able to be a fluent(ish) signer one day! Grammar is mostly just built into the lessons themselves, but they’ll also call out specific grammatical with just a few lines on one screen. I love it so much I bought my daughter her own subscription. My only real complaint - if you don’t finish a lesson chunk, it doesn’t save your progress like other apps do. Cannot understand why this is. So it’s great incentive to actually finish little lessons every day!

Affordability…. As someone who recently lost most of her hearing, it’s disappointing that there isn’t a “free” version (or at the very least, a more affordable paid option). It’s a huge bummer. Most spoken language apps offer more in this regard…yet learning a second spoken language often isn’t completely necessary, but just an interest/for fun/helpful for travel or work. Learning ASL is now a NECESSITY for my family and me, and there aren’t many options out there to learn quickly. Otherwise, this seems like a great program. I just can’t give it a completely fair assessment because it blocks access to everything after completing 75% of the very first lesson, and after viewing TWO dictionary words….and sadly, I can’t afford the monthly or annual prices.

Scammed me for over $100. I’m a daycare teacher and single mom with my own little one, I’ve been thinking about learning ASL. I started a free trial, as always I forget and don’t use the app. Anyways, the app snatched my card info from my phone even though I didn’t even link my card, and then charged me for the $120 yearly subscription! Not to mention, they market this app as though it’s $9.99 a month, and it would be one thing if it just charged me for the month. Well of course it didn’t, it went ahead and charged me the whole yearly subscription without my permission. ALSO, you can’t get a refund if you participated in the free 1 week trial. Long story short, I downloaded an app, forgot about it, and now I’m out $120 that I didn’t even have in the first place and stuck with an app I clearly won’t use because they scammed me so bad. DON’T DOWNLOAD THIS APP.

Great app but. I’ve tried looking into many different ASL apps, and this one by far has to be one of my favorites, giving me a very Duolingo vibe. The only thing that I do not like is that you have to pay pretty hefty price to continue learning after chapter 1 I understand the logic behind it, but I feel like there should be a free version and a premium version. Kind of like Duolingo how are able to learn without paying I feel like a lot more people would be willing to learn. I just wish there was a way that you didn’t have to pay such a hefty price.

Ehh. Well basically it’s great and I do know asl so it’s a little hard to understand this app and I don’t want to half to pay for it but of course it’s how you make your money so it isn’t why I am not crazy about this app. It’s just not what I’m looking for and if you are looking for something to learn asl I don’t think you should get it because it’s SUPER HARD TO UNDERSTAND and the letters of the alphabet and it almost makes them look WRONG!!!! So I don’t think it’s a great app and some people from other reviews are maybe learning asl wrong and don’t think they are! PLEASE FIX THIS APP!!!!😫😫😫😫

Subscription for one year button broken. I’ve been trying to press the one year subscription button in this app since last night. I’ve tried everything. Shutting down my phone, logging out and logging back in again, deleting the app but nothing seems to work. I can press the 3 month and one month subscription and they work fine. The year button won’t work no matter what I do. I love this app but if you could fix this so I can buy a year subscription that would be great.

Wish there was a way to check skill level. I’ve currently been learning asl for 4 years while I’m in high school, but I’m going to college soon and the college I’m going to does not have any ASL courses, so I download this app so I could keep up with it and not forget everything… but there is no way to show how proficient I am so I can start at the appropriate level, like how most apps like LingoDeer and Duolingo have a way to test so you can start learning where you need to, this app doesn’t. Though I do think this is perfect for those who have no prior knowledge of ASL and I really appreciate it, I just wish I could start at the appropriate level 😔

Really good at the beginning but it’s not for me or other that doesn’t want to spend money on it. When I first downloaded this app, I was really REALLY happy because of how easy it is to understand. But in just first day of use (close to finishing the starter) I couldn’t even processed to the next lesson without having a 7 free days trial popping up in my screen, when I declined it, cause I didn’t like the idea of giving money just to learn, there’s literally nothing for me to continue (I did try other options learning but same thing). It’s a bummer that I have to uninstall this app but I just don’t want to pay for something I’m curious to learn. Plus I’m broke soooooo… oh well I’m just giving this a two stars cause again, it’s easy to understand but you do need to pay just to learn

Great Tool. This app is absolutely amazing. I’m a high school teacher, and I find the structure really great. When the app teaches you a new sign, they teach you 2-3 at a time, then quickly asks questions about it which helps my brain remember. The app also naturally does spiral review with the words you know so far. Dialogue, vocab, finger spelling, and grammar are all included. It is so well designed. I think I joined ~ 25 days ago, and I know 128 signs so far :) I’m so excited to be able to communicate with my dear and hard of hearing students!

Love it but ,. I’m really satisfied with the app until now, even though the trial might have been a bit annoying it’s okay now I guess. I started using this app almost for a year and I’ve learned so much already ! It’s really great only sometime I forget some signs , and I know that there is a trainer you can do to revise but I only get the newer signs I learned and not the ones in the very beginning which I have forgotten a bit , so I would suggest if it could be placed into the app to revise all of the words unless it’s already on there , just I’m not far enough yet in the training section. Thank you for reading 😊

I love it but. I really really like the app. I’ve had it for maybe 3 months, have learned a handful of things, it has different teaching methods that make you really grasp it. Some is the lessons to get “stars”(practice) get repetitive though, I think once I did the same lesson 3x because the same questions kept appearing unless it was a glitch. I also wish there were lessons in between lessons to recap what we’ve learned so far, cause for example if I was on chapter 8 I forgot signs I learned on chapter 4. I unfortunately had to stop subscription due to the price….$17 is a little steep. If you have the money I say go for it, you’ll learn for sure.

Very disappointed :(. Don’t get me wrong, this app has been amazing. I feel like if I could use this app, I could learn asl in a blink of an eye. I’ve already learned many words, greetings, and phrases due to this app, but you can’t even finish the first lesson. Once you’re about to finish the first lesson, it doesn’t let you learn, or go any further. The only way that you’ll be able to keep on learning is if you pay. This was a huge downfall for this app, I absolutely hate apps that don’t let you learn, or go further unless you have to pay, and I know that I’m not the only one that feels this way. So if you’re not a fan of paying for apps, then this definitely isn’t for you.

Best app ever ❤️ ❤️ ❤️. When I first got the app I was like this is gonna be so dumb but then I kept on doing it and kept on doing it and it was so much fun. I have learned so many new sign language things that I did not know before and it’s a good thing, because my friend is deaf, so I can talk to her where she can’t hear what I’m saying with my mouth but she can hear what I’m saying with my hands and I think that’s awesome support, deaf people deaf pride always and if somebody’s death, don’t make fun of them and don’t say anything rude to them and be nice and if you know sign language, then sign to them 😘💕😁✨🫶

ENJOY? YES! Big time!. What an effective sign language (SL) learning app! First off, the three language options: ASL, British SL and Austrian SL! An immediate lesson of its own that ASL is not a universal language. I’m on the ASL lessons. The progression of the material covers complex concepts comprehensively. I’ve taken ASL classes a long time ago and if this app had existed, it would have been a great homework assignment to carry on the practice of material outside of class. Plus, seeing different signers in the app on top of what is taught in ASL classes is beneficial for students. I could keep going with my love for this app but I want to get back to completing my latest lesson!

Amy. I’ve been interested in sign language since I was a little girl I used to watch signing with Debbie on PBS. When I got into college, I took ALS one but life got busy and I never got back to it now I’m out of church where we have a deaf community and I’m interested in learning sign again. This is the perfect way to get me to practice for five minutes a day, which is about what I can commit to right now thank you so much for creating this app. I really love it and I love all the people on there. They’re very encouraging.

I am really impressed.. I have taken six and eight week, in person asl classes for asl 1 and asl 2 over the course of two years. I have learned more useful language and asl grammar from this app in three weeks than I did in those two years. And this is far less expensive. I cannot believe how individualized it is in terms of re teaching me anything I got wrong in the trainer portion. My 2 year old granddaughter is non verbal and autistic and I am hoping to help her communicate more. I look forward to seeing this app grow and evolve so I can continue learning. Happy to support this effort! ONWARD!

Great learning tool. Very easy and convenient to work through the different lessons! I wish the dictionary portion was more expansive, but my main complaint is the subscription based program. I know that’s the standard nowadays but without regular people to practice with, I lose the information quickly, so I would have to maintain a subscription “indefinitely” - and the prices make that impossible. Maybe a model where you pay that monthly rate but keep courses you completed afterwardswithout having to pay? Like keeping a textbook from a class.

I have a deaf dad. He went his whole life refusing to learn ASL. Finally as a 64 year old man he decided to learn. Now I’m learning to be able to communicate with him better as what hearing he has with the hearing aids is getting worse. Lingvano has been amazing. I love that a lot of the people involved with the app are a part of the deaf community. I believe, as my dad and other deaf family members believe, it’s generally best to learn from other deaf people. This app makes it so easy to learn and to remember the signs. I will forever be grateful for this app.

Idiotic.. So, this app is targeted towards the average casual user, right? People who genuinely need to or have to learn sign language likely have better resources available to them, and casual learners with endless disposable income could easily afford in person lessons or something more reliable and higher tier quality with their endless amounts of money. $18/month is a laughably high amount for the target audience of this app to spend. This app could get 1000 users willing to pay ~$5/month for every 10 that are willing to pay ~$20/month. There are so many more options and resources available for learning ASL that are either free or much more cost effective than this. Also the blatant word-mouthing greatly takes away from the learning experience.

It goes too fast. And I don’t feel in incorporate enough exercises into what you’ve just learned. It teaches you about 12 signs at a time and expects you to just memorize them without any real repetitiveness or incorporation. You showed me tree and house then asked me which image gesture is shown to mean house. Then about 5 questions later I get “which one means tree”. I mean you didn’t even teach it. I’m just about to start chapter 3 24 hours after starting and I feel so lost and overwhelmed. I know I can go back over the lessons, but they don’t really change so why bother. I don’t know, it’s just really pricey and I’m not impressed.

🤩AMAZING FOR LEARNING ASL🤩. I’ve tried my entire life to learn ASL and nothing ever really stuck with me. The lessons were somewhat simple but I just couldn’t get it to stick. This app is INCREDIBLE! It repeats the signs over and over so you’re guaranteed to grasp it. It has you fill in the words for what they’re signing, has you recap before moving onto the next lesson and even allows you to slow down the signs if they’re moving too fast for you to see properly. I’ve learned more ASL with this app in 2 days than I have my entire 28 years of life.

Mostly Awesome. This has really helped me keep up my ASL at a time when I can’t do classes! I appreciate the explicit instruction and opportunities for review and practice. A few cons: The app doesn’t always recognize multiple meanings for a sign. For instance, if you type “acting” instead of “theater” (same sign), it’s marked incorrect. I get that AI can only go so far. Also, there’s a glitch in the “level up” star-collecting lesson. For me, specifically in module 6. I’ve scored 100% correct but then earned no starts and then gotten a message to try again. Finally, some of the language used in connection with queer related signs is archaic at best, and offensive at worst. No queer person I know, myself included, uses the word “homosexual” in conversation. I do hope this can be changed to reflect current, respectful terminology. All in all, this is the best out there to supplement learning live from Deaf instructors / community members.

no notification settings. please add notification settings. when your app asked if i wanted streak notifications and i said yes, i assumed it meant only streak notifications. nope. already got a notification trying to get me to purchase a subscription (excuse me? i just downloaded the app TODAY give me a chance to decide without being too pushy. i understand ads for it in the app but notifications???) and another trying to get me to go back and start chapter 2. i turned off notifications for the app in my phone settings because i was irritated. i have had this app for ONE DAY. please let me control what notifications i receive. i was so excited to find an app teaching asl but i’m already turned off from this one because of this.

Newbie Friendly. I just finished Lesson 1 & I’m thoroughly enjoying this ASL app. To me, signing can be very intimidating because I feel people sign at warp speed..the clever & beauty of this app is that it has a “Turtle” icon/button to turn on if you want more clarity in the hand movements. Also, these lessons can help me support the special needs classrooms I work in..& may also help give some of the students a “safe” way to communicate their basic needs & wants. I’m excited to continue my ASL learning & education. 💕 Thank you, Lingvano!!🫶🏼

Nearly Deaf. I suffered a massive injury and hit my head on my car while then striking it on black ice that I feel on. I was giving a hearing aid for my right ear, and I still have sound in the left ear. Last evening I spent two hours in the emergency room while they try to pull out the dome of my hearing aid that was lodged deep inside the canal, almost 2 inches. The pain was beyond excruciating as they pulled it out, and I am petrified to wear my hearing aid. Therefore, I would like to learn ASL to help me function. This site is extremely easy for a beginner and I highly recommend it this far. Thank you to whoever developed this app.

Learning. This app makes it so easy to learn an understand sign language. I started learning bc it would be a cool skill to have, and very helpful in the future, and they take it slow, and you can repeat lessons and the videos they provide however many times you want, and you can go at your own pace, so you won’t have to worry about anything going too fast, and it really is set at the beginners level, and it’s really easy and fun when your just sitting around so you have something to do, and your learning while doing it

Super disappointing price point. Man, I was so excited for this app because, IT’S REALLY WELL DONE, and makes learning ASL so accessible, but the price point is such a high barrier to entry. I’m a teacher and use ASL in my classroom every day, I think it’s important to not only be accessible to students who are hearing impaired, but it’s also such an engaging way to interact with students and have them interact with each other. My students love learning ASL. But I was never taught, so I learn what I can on my own time and dollar. Thought this app was the answer, again ITS SO WELL DONE, but I just can’t justify the cost. Make a free version that shows me ads or something, I’ll do that all day long.

Great App...BUT. I must say, this is an extremely good App. The ONLY reason I give it 4 stars is because of the guy with the blonde hair. You can understand clearly ALL the other teachers except for the guy with the blonde hair. For someone starting out, when signing...the signs should be clear and understandable. He's the ONLY one who I just can't seem to grasp hold of his signing. They're not clear so you have to keep letting the video's with him signing repeat, repeat, repeat. Although, I know evertone signs differently. But on a learning App...it should be concise and clear like the other signers so new learners can grasp. Other than the guy with the Blonde hair, this App is amazing.

Absolutely love this. I’ve been really interested in learning sign language but haven’t found a course that really teaches how to actually communicate not just show me some signs. This does just that! I love the dialog bits where you can see them signing a conversation to each other. Some signs are a bit hard to make out when you just have the front view but I just pull out my other app “sign for me” to clarify it and it works out well. You do have to pay a subscription to make it worth it. But it’s not unreasonable and you can’t expect them to make and maintain an awesome education app for free.

Amazing!. I would recommend this app to anyone wanting to learn ASL. The teaching style is incredible, the signs are clear and not too fast, and there's even a specific place just for practicing your vocabulary. If you reslky want to learn ASL, I think that the payment is worth it. Remember that real Deaf people took their free time to make this app and teach you this language. (Also, if you don't want to pay monthly, there's an option for an annual payment, which is what I chose, because I'm pretty sure that it's cheaper than paying monthly.) Thank you for reading my review!

Worth it. The price is more expensive than the average app, but 100% worth it. There are multiple people signing in the videos on the app and they deserve to get paid fairly for what they are doing. After maybe an hour of on and off use today I have learned at least a dozen new signs, and i have previously taken a sign language course. If you can’t afford it, there are many free resources out there, but for someone willing to pay the extra money for a more efficient way to learn it is fantastic.

Begging for Ads. I have been longing to learn sign language for 10 years and was so thrilled to learn about this "free" app. I did the first 4 lessons and was excited to continue learning every day, but then I discovered you have to buy a subscription before you can even finish the first chapter! I can't afford a subscription, so my eager learning has come to a screeching halt. I would gladly put up with advertisements to continue learning for free. Please make this an option for us poor people that just want to learn sign language!!!

Great app but Mostly Clickbate. This is a great app for learning ASL and other sign languages, but no add ever mentioned that there would be a cost to the education? My moms new boyfriend is deaf and i really wanted to communicate with him and this app seemed legit, my daughter had been using it too, but she got a little further than me since she has more free time because i’ve been at work. I get home one day and she comes to me crying asking me to pretty please pay for her to get more lessons on Lingvano. I told her absolutely not, if this is gonna be a monthly payment. She and I are both very upset, so please, in your recent ads, try to include the fact that there will be payment involved.😰😓😱🤯😢🥺😫😖

Amazing app, but the price makes it unusable. Really love this app, but unfortunately I will not be able to use it due to the 20 dollars a month that it costs. I already know some entry level ASL and I downloaded this looking to refresh and advance my skills. I started using the free trial and I really loved this app and thought it was a great way for people to learn. Then I saw how much it costs and realized I will not be able to use it. I would pay for a good quality app like this, but not 20$ a month. If you can pay I think the app is great, but I think the price is discouraging for most people who want to learn. For 5-10$ less I think many more people would be willing to pay and learn a lot from this app.

Free trial.. You might as well pay for the app, I barely got to learn anything. This app is REALLY good at teaching but I have no money, so I can’t learn? The ads for this app should warn you that you can’t use the app without a paying. It’s so stupid. I wish I could ACTUALLY LEARN without a free trial! Next time please put a warning instead of wasting my time. Do I like what I’ve learned so far? YES. Do I want to learn more from this app? YES I do, but I have no money. Please think of the people that want to learn and don’t have money. That’s the whole reason we learn online is because we can’t afford in person classes. Please think. Thank you.

Would be nice if I could use it 🤷🏻. I got this app because I can’t afford to pay for asl lessons and thought this app was free; turns out that there is a paywall after 9 lessons. I really enjoyed those nine lessons and learned a little bit but I can’t pay for the rest of the lessons. I wouldn’t mind having to watch ads as long as they weren’t overly excessive. I wish I could’ve known about the paywall before look at reviews or after downloading the app. I really wanted to learn because I go nonverbal sometimes and can’t speak even if I try and I know several hard of hearing almost deaf people and would’ve loved to have an easier way to communicate 😞

Paywall. It does have a lot of lessons, and I did enjoy following along, but you can only go through like 90% of less than one before you have a to pay. I really would like to learn sign language and I am I’m sure how else I can do so without an app, but the fact it requires a subscription and not even just a one time payment. It is a barrier for a lot of people the parts I did get to experience were good, but it’s disappointing that it cost money to learn, especially knowing Duolingo is free and that is a language learning app that many people use I wish there was an app like that for sign language so it was more accessible

Odd you have to pay to learn how to communicate with people who have disabilities... The lessons themselves are great, but the fact that you have to pay to learn how to communicate with people who have a disability is kind of stupid in my opinion. While the app teaches basic signing and a good way to say hi or ask if someone is deaf, it doesn’t provide more than that. Even if the fact you had to pay was dumb, the price that the app makes you pay is completely unreasonable. It makes you pay more than most people make after working for hours. I find that insane. I will say though that the idea is great, but the prices and the fact you have to pay is pretty insane.
