The Official MTA App Comments & Reviews 2026

Huge improvement!. I was part of the beta test for this app and I’m really impressed with what they’ve made. In my opinion, this app is superior to using Google or Apple Maps to navigate public transit in NYC. It rivals other transit apps like Citymapper, which has more features but I still prefer to use the MTA app because it doesn’t have ads and the interface is cleaner. I love the dark mode, I love the way it shows the subway and bus times in a simple and clear way. Only issue I ever really run into is when I try to search a location by name, it doesn’t always give me the result I want. But everything else, it works great. I love it. Good job.

Easy to use. I love the ability to plan a trip from home to work, or where ever, and the map shows you the route from walking to the different connections. Also finally an easy way to get arrival times and info of schedule changes. Add a few favorites and it’s really easy to navigate. Overall a huge improvement over the previous app.

New Update is really awful. This update is really awful in terms of UX; what used to be clear and concise information available through a couple of clicks now is a complicated series of clicking through multiple screens. The map centric focus is not helpful as a default and is radically reducing load times, particularly when using low-bandwidth internet that is available in subway stations. Narrowing the view also makes it more difficult to survey available service options.

The new update ruined my ride experience. Before this new update, it was so convenient and easy. Even for elders my parents can easily navigate through the app and find information they need. After the update, I am not even sure how I can clearly navigate through the app, it used to take me 2 seconds to find now it takes me 2 minutes to find what I need. The new features are helpful but I strongly believe the app currently being overloaded with A LOT of information. And some new information aren’t necessarily helpful. The feature on the app are messy and confusing. I don’t think the developer did a good job on developing a user friendly app-remember this is for everyone, not just the young demo. So please bring back a simple version to help not tech savvy people!

Redundant. The old version was far more user friendly. This version requires you to tap the direction you’re going twice in order to see filtered info. Too much information is presented on one page making quick checks nearly improbable. The wait times are inaccurate and the delay or service change notices take far too long to populate. Also, it must take more processing power because it does take longer to load and I have a new phone so that’s not the issue. To be useful, this app needs to be quick and simple. It’s a very frustrating app to use now.

Looks nice, but old app was much easier and more reliable/accurate. The layout of this new app is far busier and requires more taps to get the same information as the old app/web platform. For a tourist not in a hurry, that information can be useful, but for a native NYer who needs to get someplace now, fumbling through an app to find the same information can mean missing a train, bus, or transfer. However, the worst part is that estimated arrival times are more often than not, completely wrong. Trains and buses in the app that don’t exist, arrival times being 3-5 minutes off, and travel times between stops completely incorrect (too long or too short). Cross checking with the train arrival signs in stations or at bus stops and checking the web app show me that this app is the issue and somehow is working off different algorithms or data sets to estimate timing. The web app has become quite good and overwhelmingly is the most reliable for arrival times. I’ve resorted to using the web app, because while not perfect, it’s by comparison 5 stars over this. I look forward to some fast updates to fix, at the very least, the missing and incorrect arrival times.

Bring back the old app. It’s so much harder to check the upcoming trains and train times at a station and compare routes now. Navigation to see the upcoming trains at a station takes so much longer now, which is very inconvenient when I’m trying to decide if I should stay on the local train or transfer if there’s an express train arriving soon. I can see the benefit of this app but wish the old one was maintained to easily and quickly get the information needed without a bunch of other info that slows down navigation.

The hate on the app is exaggerated. The app is simple. It tells you directions. If you have a favorite bus or a bus or subway you use often you could favorite it. basically simple. I don’t know where by everyone saying the app is complicated or too many buttons or too many tapping. use this app if you are trying to figure out where you want to go in New York City what buses or trains or rails call it a day. but the only thing I would suggest for the developers is the MTA to allow us to purchase tickets prepaid for our route. this is a positive step to making our life as travelers without a car easier

Phenomenal Rework. TLDR: Good redesign, very user friendly, not meant to replace google maps, but good add-on app for commuters to have more information. The app does its job very well and you can tell the developers and designers worked extremely hard to make sure all feature are included in a seamless and user-friendly way. The only suggestion I have is perhaps prioritizing subway lines and commuter rails on the map instead of listing all the lines, buses, and rail randomly. For example, hovering above 59th St Columbus Circle, if I didn’t search it up, I would have to scroll a long time to find the A, B, C, D trains because there are so many buses. Perhaps list the services by popularity? Also what would be cool is to see real time trains moving up and down the line like in other transit apps as well as the official website. Other than that, great app!! Highly recommend.

Throwback New York Experience. I deleted this app and have opted for a good old fashion New York City experience! Now I just show up to the platform whenever and stand and wait and pray and sweat and crane my neck to look down into the darkness of the tunnel (behind the yellow line of course)! Will the train come? Maybe, maybe not! What an exciting and real time rush! Maybe I’ll make it to that job interview but will I be able to make the three transfers? Are those trains even running? Who knows? Exciting! Yellow tape and hand posters are my new best friends again! They got rid of the station agents and those eta screens rarely works so its the wild days down under ground! I like to pretend Im back in the 80s or byo strap and go even farther back in time, either way I get by with my street smarts and grit, patience and a TON of underground cursing! Thanks for the inspiration MTA!

App wasn’t great before but it was quick & functional AKA useful. Before, I could just open the app and in about 2 taps have exactly the info I need for daily commuting while only encountering 1 additional screen. The new app, I have to navigate several screens, multiple taps per screen to get the information I need. When you’re on the go (as most NYers are) this is incredibly annoying and makes the app unusable. I used to defer to this app over Google maps for accurate train/bus info. Now it is unusable for a NYer, who already knows the MTA system, and just needs the most relevant commuting info (when is my train/bus arriving). New app is a 4 star if you’re a tourist or someone from outside NYC boroughs trying to navigate and need an abundance of info. Happy for “them” but not great that NYers experience/needs have been deprioritized since it’s our taxes funding this system.

This app has potential.. MTA, you could have done a live status map with all trains and regional buses showing all warnings and service changes on the map with the trains like apple or google maps, but you went lazy and showed ALL POSSIBLE routes on a line and only 1 line at a time. This is a miserable excuse for an app and i’m rating it 5 stars so people can see this horrible mess, althought it is better than the previous app, it still needs heavy development.

This app is perfect but the route map is messed up. I’ve been using this app for a month now and nothing has changed and it’s pretty Great you could still use it in however the route map on every line is messed up and could you fix it I found it it back in March

Go back to the basics!. Please go back to the original app. I don’t care to see metro north or LIRR on the same app that shows when the next subway will show up. I’m a 28 tech geek and this app is WAY too confusing and overloading for me. Go back to the way it was before you could click on a specific train and it easily showed you the train updates and stops, not this multiple click nonsense!! This is NOT a train, this is a commuter rail that comes every 3 min during rush hour to almost every station in the 5 boroughs.

So confusing. Way too many selection screens to get to the train/bus needed. By the time you do you’ve missed the oncoming train/bus. The app no longer finds your stop automatically through location which adds extra time to the search. It auto selects to the uptown direction which can be confusing. The countdown time and the time stamp often don’t match up which can be frustrating. Essentially it’s just become too complicated for people living in a city that moves so fast. I appreciated that previously it would only take a few seconds to find a route... something I could do while multitasking. I feel like now I’m planning a road trip with multiple stops and I need to sit down and really pay attention to make sure I don’t get lost.

Horrible update, I can’t read it. I really hate what they did to this app. I can’t even tell what direction a bus is coming from it’s very confusing. Before you would see the line with the bus on route but now it says the stops it’s at but it doesn’t say what bus it is or the destination of the bus like it used to before. Like if I wanted to go to East 180 I obviously wouldn’t look at the map of the bus going towards riverdale or even look at that map. It would show the stop and where the bus was at on the stop. Clear and easy to use. Now it’s a bunch of jumbled info and I deleted the app and reply more on Google maps

The app went from usable and efficient to unusable and inefficient bring back the old one. I really miss the old app. When I had 20-35 seconds to make decisions before, I could open the app, and with 2 taps or less I could get exactly the information I was looking for. Now, I have to scroll and tap and navigate and try to find things and it is labor intensive. I have gone back to using Google Maps instead because it is much cleaner and easier to use. The old app was a 3 to 4 star AP that was useful. This new app takes way too long to get the information no need in the go and if k could give it 0 stars I would. The product/UI/developer team has made a cataclysmic mistake with the new app. If you don’t believe me, check the ratings since the update. Read the reviews. I have no doubt whatsoever that if you just rolled back to the old version, people would be much happier.

Terrible Update. The recent overhaul of the app has a fancier looking interface but greatly reduced user experience. It now takes multiple taps and a savvy user to access basic info that was previously available much more easily. For example, once you select the subway line and station, you now have to specify uptown or downtown in order to see the next arriving trains instead of that info simply being displayed on the next screen like it did in the previous version. And that’s if you can even figure that out because the words uptown and downtown are barely visible. Another annoying “upgrade” is the next arriving trains no longer show the time of arrival, instead they show number of minutes so you have to look at the time on your phone and calculate when the train will arrive. Overall feels like an expensive redesign with a more complicated and less functional user experience.

I don’t know why they replaced the old app!. I have never reviewed an App before - until now, because it’s bad! I have family members who agree as well. I am an everyday commuter from Brooklyn to Manhattan. I know what trains I’m taking and don’t get lost. I just need to know at what time the trains or buses will show up. The old app worked perfectly fine. This new app works but it has too many things going on that you have keep on clicking on different links in order to get to the answer. I also saved my favorite train lines, and it always glitches and never loads them at first; only works after I close the app and reopen. Takes longer time to load, I think because it has so much going on, so when you’re a native NYer who commutes everyday, it can mean that you can miss your train. The most annoying part is when you click on a certain train direction but in the next screen it shows you both directions again and you have to click again on your direction. Like why click again and again if you already chose it at beginning. And sometimes you don’t remember the last stop name of the line because many of us never ever go there, so it gets confusing. I just think in terms of uptown and downtown.

If it ain’t broke…. Why would you completely change the app? I used to be able to open the app, click on the subway line I needed, scroll down and see when the train was coming. Now there are so many added steps. I have to keep switching to my favorites tab instead of my favorite lines just being there when I open the app, click past a service change alert page and change the direction I need to see EVERYtime. Then I have to push the stop times up to fill the screen because for some reason they added a huge unnecessary map on the subway page. Also the train times are gone. It used to say the scheduled time a train was coming as well as how many minutes away it was. Now it just says how many minutes. We have limited time when trying to catch a train. I just need to open it, make 1 or 2 clicks and see when the train is coming. I used to be able to do that. This new app takes too much to navigate. The whole user interface is just unnecessarily clunky and not user friendly. Simple is always better. I never used the bus part of the app for this same reason and always chose to use the web browser. Now you’ve ruined the subway part. The only positive is that it now supports dark mode. I wish I’d never updated. Please change it back.

Terrible awful app. This app is terrible. Worst app ever. It tells you times of trains that don’t exist. It told me in real time that Theo different e trains came and departed to the Jamaica van wyck stop while I was waiting on platform. No trains came and none left. Waited 30 freakin minutes for a train making me late for my dr’s appt when I could have just driven or taken a car service if I had know trains were running every 30 minutes instead of every couple of minutes like the app promised. If i could give negative stars I would!

Comprehensively Worse than the old app. I don’t even know where to begin with the problems with this app, but here’s the single most frustrating thing; it’s almost impossible to just track the buses live on their routes. It’s pretty much the only thing I really need the app to do, and I think it still does it, but not easily or obviously. MTA schedules are barely a suggestion anyway, but it’s fine, as long as their are buses and trains moving along routes fairly regularly. Bur you need to see them to plan on them. And you could do that very easily on the old app. No longer, sadly. Now they insist on presenting the ‘scheduled’ times, and it’s impossible to work out how to see a live status of a moving bus. And the scheduled times are frequently wrong, so now I’m missing buses and running late because I can’t plan anything properly. This is an absolute garbage app, and a total waste of MTA money. Bring back the old one so that I have a chance of at least getting to where I need to be close to when I need to be there.

Too complicated, I literally just want to see times. I usually don’t mind a few tweaks here or there when it come to updates but this was a little much that no one asked for. Like most, I just want to see what time a train is coming. You have to click like 5-7 buttons to figure that out. The old way was straight forward—pick your line and stop and you’ll see the how many minutes AND the estimated time. Personally, I don’t care about the explore button that literally never updates to your location even when you have stable wifi. The status should just have the lines in order, and I missed how when you clicked your line, the service status only took up half the screen with the line in order so you can just find your stop from there. Also, when you finally get to the line you want, I feel like the directions should be swapped . Example, why is the “inwood 207” button start at far rockaway? I understand that’s the direction you’re headed to but it’s a little confusing at first glance in my opinion and I almost have to click the back button each time.

Only sometimes useful. Bus info in particular has become unreliable. Tonight I took a screen shot at 9:43 that claims that the B67 bus is 2 stops away and will arrive at the stop where I am waiting at 9:12. Why can't the MTA ever seem to get its act together? Update: the newest version of this app (Sept, 2024) is a somewhat better piece of software. The only problem is that the info it puts out can't be trusted. Sometimes it knows about buses coming, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it knows about subways coming, and sometimes it doesn't. Since you can't know what info is good, the app remains a kind of guide to a crapshoot. GIGO, as the software guys say.

The update is garbage. Even before this app had problems. Irregularly reporting bus times and location , train delays not being reported accurately etc. but the great thing was they mostly cleaned up the issues. Now for god knows what reason they decided to “update” the app with colors and a more complicated interface. Before all I had to do was search my bus and then I could see where the bus was on the route. Now I can’t even search for my bus without being given 16 other pieces of information. Bring back the old interface it was simpler to navigate and made sense. If this stays like this I’m just gonna rely on google or a third party app, this app is garbage now.

Good update of the app.. I don't usually write a positive review, but not in this case. I ran a new update of the program a couple of times, but I already like everything. The application was made more intuitive, the confusing interface was removed. Special thanks for the offline cards.

I gave the update a chance, and it’s GREAT!. When this App was initially updated , March 27, 2024. I gave it a 1 Star Review without giving it an opportunity to actually impress me with its changes. Now, a month later, I have gotten used to it, and it is EXTREMELY more helpful than before. This is a 5 Star App that has become more helpful than its original release. Great job.

Why the changes?. I’m not usually one to complain about new changes and I can adapt pretty quickly. But I updated my app this morning to this new layout and I’m really struggling to understand the changes that were made. I use the app primarily for the buses, and I used to be able to very quickly see what stops any buses were at, which was so helpful! Clicking into a single stop gives you a time estimate which, let’s be honest, is almost always wrong, so it was better for me to be able to estimate it myself. Choosing the direction I want to see now takes more clicks and is less obvious. I used to be able to see bus/subway delays/info in the same screen as the stop information. Now I have to remember to check an entirely separate screen. The old was a bit clunky and definitely needed updates but these updates are not intuitive or user-friendly. I can’t imagine someone less tech-savvy than me trying to use it.

Latest update ruined this app. I don’t know what the MTA was thinking with this latest app update, but it ruined basically every function an NYC commuter needs from it. I used to be able to determine which station I should transfer at in order to have the fastest commute. I used to be able to easily see if there was an issue at my local station. I used to be able to use any feature without turning on location services. Not anymore. This app now functions like it was designed for someone who is completely lost in NYC, unable to determine which corner they’re standing on. Now us locals are back to not being able to simply access a reliable timetable from home, office, or anywhere other than a station.

As dismal as their service. I hoped for better, but this app is unfortunately on par with everything else from the MTA. It takes to much effort to get to something simple, and it comes up short. Couple that with the need to register for basic features, and you have at best a marginal app that’s as much a necessary evil as the subways are. It’s ridiculous to believe this is the second or maybe third iteration of this app. Has the MTA not looked at the features of other apps when they designed this? Or is this app intentionally poorly designed to drive us to apps that do their job better, but come with a monthly subscription?

Ruined a useful app. As a New Yorker and as an employee of NYCT, I use the mta app several times a day. I notice that the updated app has added directions for outside of NY which is fine but navigation for locations in has been severely sacrificed. No longer can you type the name of a business and see the options for Brooklyn and Manhattan pop up. The present updated app simply doesn’t give the location. It doesn’t work and will force you to use another app like google maps. Overall, terrible update to a once very useful app.

Inaccurate and difficult to navigate. I agree with asnow1190. I know that developing an app takes a lot of work, but the old app was much easier to navigate, clearly laid out, and the arrival times were much more accurate- I’ve missed trains because of this new app. It is extremely difficult to find what should be standard information: for example, searches don’t always yield results (this could be due to needing the station written in a specific way instead of common names) and separate transit systems are visually lumped together at hub stations. While the new app looks nice aesthetically, it’s visually crowded and it’s difficult to parse out any detail. This feedback is not about getting used to a new app. As much as I use it, I should be a pro at it by now- the fact that I’m not speaks to the lack of user-friendliness. Perhaps the app developers can take a look at the old app and integrate what worked into this app.

I have never written a review and this update has forced me to write my first one. As the title says: I have never written a review and this update is so terrible I am forced to write one because I don’t know where or how else to channel my rage. This update is beyond incomprehensible. I just want to see where the bus is - why can I no longer see where the bus is? I stared at the map over and over again to see if I was missing something. I stared at the list of stops believing that the bus was just not ever, ever coming. Why did you get rid of the only useful feature the old version had? I can’t imagine living in this city without it. Please. I beg you. Bring back the bus tracker. Show me where I am on a simple list and where the bus is on the list and how many people are on the bus. Are you all not bus riders? Is that it? Do you all just ride the subway? Or have cars? This is such an enormous error to the ridership. I literally can’t handle this.

Works great! Much better than previous version. finally a great subway app that knows when the subways or not running, and which ones. there still a few features they need to head but overall this is a much better app than anything we’ve seen before from the MTA and I’ve been using it regularly now highly recommended

Yikes…. Last app version was 2 out of 5 stars, this is worse. Love the colors, the sleek look, the longer arrivals/departures lists, and that’s about it. It has the layout and feel of trying to replace Google maps, and honey…why? This is an MTA app, not a tourist brochure map. The direction planing is ridiculous, the maps only show a single selected subway line (not to mention it mixes buses and subways on one map), the default ordering of subways stops is downtown at the top and uptown on the bottom (what!??), instead of a nice small grid of subway lines it’s a long list and no longer brings subway lines that have service updates to the top of the section, several times a train that wasn’t on the arrival list arrived out of nowhere, if there’s no network connection a red box will persist across screens blocking buttons on the bottom, I should be able to see subway stops and transfers without a network connection using the latest cached service updates, there are no customization settings for what or how information is displayed….I could go on. What feedback did they use to make this app because of this is the result….yikes….

Made an already annoying app worse. My app updated automatically, unfortunately. Come to find out, the most helpful feature had been taken away. The feature that lets you see what stop the bus is at or how many stops away it is. Now we are only left to trust the “minutes” the bus will arrive in, which I find is wrong 90% of the time. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve missed the bus being 2 minutes away from the actual bus stop because I trusted the app when it said the next bus was 8 minutes away. OR how I’ve rushed and hustled for the bus that the app swore was 3 minutes away, only to discover that the bus wasn’t coming AT ALL. Come on MTA. You say you want to increase ridership, however you seem to constantly be making choices that are driving your customers away. Why would you take away this helpful feature and replace it with nothing?

Can’t buy tickets w this app use MTA train time instead. I opened the older app this morning and attempted to buy a ticket for the LIRR but the buy button wasn’t working, so I checked for an update and this is the app that replaced it. Does everything EXCEPT provide a way to buy tickets. You have to use the other app, “MTA train time” to buy tickets. How about making an “all in 1” app? BTW, “LIRR train time” no longer works.

With update 3.6, app is great !. Now that real time bus locations are back, the apps functionality is back to being what commuters need. I don’t agree with every visual change, but as always there is no way you could ever get everyone using an app like this with millions of customers on the same page. I think some of the changes are for the better, I would personally prefer the old split for specific stops, where the top of the app was one direction and the bottom was the other, but I think that’s something that maybe confused people. I think overall the app is in a great place now.

No longer quick. This app was pretty good in that I could put in my bus or train number and see when the next one is. Now I have no idea how to do that. Instead of quick little check, now I have to plug in my destination (why?!) and it still works worse. So you spend more time in the app for a less obvious and more annoying experience. I’ll be checking out other apps because this no longer suits me. I agree with whoever said this is great for anyone not familiar with the MTA. Unfortunately for me, I live and work in the city.

Was so much better before!. Honestly this app is SO frustrating! The older version was so much more streamlined and easier to understand. I rarely take the subway and only used this app for busses. Before it would automatically show what bus lines were nearby. Not anymore. In addition, it used to know where I was and could clearly state how far away a bus was. Not sure if I’m using it correctly, but it doesn’t do that anymore either. This app is impossible to navigate and I end up leaning on Google maps for a better indicator of where my bus is. Not everyone uses the subways. Please improve the bus info in this app, or go back to the previous version. As it is now, it’s completely useless for me.

App ruined.. What used to be a relatively efficient way to check the subway arrival times has now been ruined. I will be in the station standing on a platform, and when I open the app and “nearby stops” auto opens, I have to scroll through multiple bus stops that I don’t care about to find the subway station I am trying to find times for. Busses and trains should be separate, or at least, there should be a way to default filter for one or the other. Additionally, large train hubs have separate dots on the map for the lines at the same station. This makes it incredibly frustrating to find the train line you opened the app to look for when you may already literally be standing on the platform for the train. For example, the Times Sq station has dots for each line that runs through it, and it is unintuitive where to scroll on the map to find the line you are searching for, i.e. you may have found the dot for the 123 but want the dot for the NQRW. Overall, it takes far too many clicks to find the information that should be readily available.

40 years later…. It has been 40 years since I was last in New York. Took my family and we used the subway a lot to get around and see the sights. Literally could not imagine trying to navigate MTA system without this app. It was a life saver and made getting around super easy. One suggestion…link the walking directions to Google maps or Apple Maps. That integration would be helpful getting to the subway entrances which were not obvious for those not in the know.

Live tracker is back but…. The live tracker is back but the old tracker before the update was easier to use. The new live tracker seems slower to update, the bus is always between two stops it doesn’t tell you if the bus is at the bus stops The old tracker will tell you when a bus is less then one stop away, approaching, and then at stop. The new tracker can only position itself between two different stops so it’s never tell you that it’s at stops, the icon just jump from being between the pervious stops about to reach your stops and then it’ll jump to between the next stops. We seems to have lost the more precise tracking. the next one is minor but prefer if the bus icon was a different color from the line it’s currently traveling down I’ll probably keep using the bus status website rather then the app

Bloated, not for real commuters update. This update is not for real NYC commuters. The older version was quick and easy to use to get the subway info I needed. This version requires me to take more steps to get to the subway info I need, and the train times for both directions are all jumbled together, requiring me to search to find the direction for the arrival time I need. The map, which is supposedly the main focus of the update, just crowds the page and is another thing to step over. I was an every-morning user of the app for the past 3 years, but just deleted it because I couldn't get the previous version back. Replaced it with the Subway Time app, which works a lot like the previous version which was fast, efficient and un-bloated.

Terrible and Unusable Update. This app used to be simple and easy and helpful and informative. And then they did a massive overhaul of the entire interface and removed most of the features I used to use. Now train and bus times are completely inaccurate, or wrong, or nonexistent. Very sloppy to navigate. It’s a completely different app now. These weren’t minor changes, they threw everything out and started from scratch and created an absolute piece of garbage. The MTA fails…yet again. Daily. Hourly. An immensely sprawling and intricate system with absolutely appalling management and ownership.

Waste time, bus time is never accurate. Been using both the old and the new apps, was having a hard time when it first updated but everything was all good since I already got used to it. The most horrible is this freaking bus time is never accurate! The bus comes late or earlier than the estimate that I do understand, NYC’s traffic is unpredictable. But what makes me angry is that it gives fake schedule time. Some buses estimate that none of the buses showed up, or the bus arrived but did not even show on the app. Making me stand at the bus stop and waiting for plenty of times! Such a waste of time app. This app should be convenient for passengers to check out accurate schedule timing for their commute. What is the purpose of creating an app that is not helping at all instead of wasting people's time? Garbage.

Live it - But Please Improve Favorites. Loving the updates. However would love for the favorites to be rearranged automatically based on GPS location. I have quite a few saved favorites for subway stations and bus stops all over this great city. I would love to see the station and stops I’m closest to automatically move to the top. The app I used before did that very well.

Offline Maps and much better layout. MTA got this right. The offline maps are greatly appreciated; i was having to make searches on the web/use bookmarks for them. And the new layout allows you to see all options at your current location at a glance. Favorites are still there, though oddly located under the “i” icon, and through that you can use “show route” to see the lineup of stops as before. Trip Planner, given a street address, can suggest alternate routes you might not have thought of. Thanks, MTA!

Love the new app. I’m really loving the new MTA app, it’s way better than the old one with all these bad reviews. I do wish they would fix one huge issue where they don’t follow iOS conventions. If you navigate deeply within a view (such as clicking a bus stop or train station, select a bus, etc), you should be able to go back by tapping the tab button (in this case Explore), which by iOS convention should double as a back button or go to the home of that tab. Right now it does nothing which is broken. Try any tab view on a well designed iOS app and you’ll see what I mean.

Don’t bother wasting your time, just use the Transit App. Like the title says, don’t bothering using this app because I had to close apps, restart my phone, re-install the app just to have nothing show up. Had to double check my service was working to make sure it wasn’t my phone when it was still the app. You’re far better using the Transit app because the moment I opened the app, the train times appeared in a flash while this app still struggled to pull up anything. There’s many clear reasons why this app is rated 1.8 stars, never again.

Everything you need.. This app is very useful, and is better then some apps I have for public transit. It shows all delays and there causes, status of every line, and shows me every stop near me, with an option to chose between Subway, bus or rail, or you could even see all three. In my opinion, this is all you would need for a quick way to start your day, or go somewhere. I wasn’t able to find route options. For example if I wanted to go somewhere I dident know, I would have to go on a third party app which is not included in the app. Honestly without that part, this app has everything you need and is a great choice.

Nice. This app is very nice but we need to change language please

Constantly crashing. Constantly crashing - it won’t even work on my phone.

NOT all in one. Says it’s an All-in-one app but doesn’t let you buy tickets. Which is the most important thing to be able to do. Stupid.

Horrible update. All these five star reviews for the latest update have got to be plants or people connected with the MTA, because there’s no way this new version could appeal to anybody. Nothing’s intuitive, no more map tracking, can’t tell if the times you’re given are for the direction you want to go. You would think an app this badly designed would at least have tutorials explaining the changes. Nope.

Best Version So Far. Finally, a one-tap solution to check when trains nearby are arriving. Wish there was a way to filter out buses though - bus stops can clutter the UI a lot unless you add specific train stations to your favorites.

Nearby stops is not working. This app makes it super easier for me to travel to all my destinations from my doctor’s office to the grocery store and more. The nearby stops feature has stopped working unexpectedly but the app overall is great and very useful.

The app is worse than when I first started using it. I have my location on for this app and every time I want to check the trains near me it’ll tell me I’m in a completely area and when I try to drag the pin to where I am it’ll go back to “my location”. Using the app itself is a nightmare. It was so much much easy to use with the previous layout. Doubt this went through user testing because it is absolutely horrible

what happened…?. The old app was soooo much better. I could easily find the bus I was taking saved in my favorites and select the stop I needed to check. It was so much easier to check on a train status because I didn’t have to scroll through the ENTIRE list of stops. The old app was easier to use, simple and I don’t know why it needed a change.

Overcomplicated a simple concept. Please return to the old app where you could tap a line and tap a station. I don’t need to search for an address (and by the way why can you search for addresses outside of the MTA coverage area anyway) also why is the subway stop I’m trying to search for not the first result every time after just a few letters? If anything the UI of this app should just be a subway map or a list of subway lines followed by a list of stops on that line. BRING BACK THE OLD APP.

New update. I use this app constantly (mostly for the train) and I really dislike the new update. I’m aware on how to use it but there’s so many features that it does not have. Also, before I could access my train’s very easily now I have to look at busses before. I wish I could have all the trains lined up so I don’t have to favorite them all like before, now I have to physically search them up

Make it easy. This app was not very good before but now it is not good at all. You can miss the bus while searching for your bus on this app. At least I can't use this app. Look at other apps and fix the flaws in them and the app will automatically become perfect. Fewer clicks better app

$u ks. This version of the app is bulky and buggy. All it will load is my location. I’m on an older phone like a lot of others. Maybe make a lite version for us poor people.

Keep it the way it was. I can’t stand this new version. The previous version was so easy to navigate. This new app I can appreciate the upgrade but this was a totally, completely, and new make-over and not easy to navigate. I saw a senior at the bus stop yelling at their phone wondering what happened to their app. I explained that the app went through a change. That poor senior eventually asked the bus driver about the app and the driver couldn’t help much and directed them to call 511. Put the old app back!

Keeps getting better. Hats off to the programmers. Having the train lines on the map makes it so much easier for you to get your bearings. Being able to choose the direction of your favorite train stops cuts down on unnecessary information on your start page.

What happened. They “improved” the app, but now it doesn’t show me anything. I’ve been trying to look at the subway lines and it just keeps loading and loading and loading and nothing loads. I’ve exited the app three times and still nothing. All I see is a map of where I started out this morning. Please fix this. It’s so slow. I’m just trying to find out what time my next train is arriving.

Access A Ride With MTA. Absolutely, horrible service ! It’s appropriate name should be stress A Ride ! I’m a disabled woman and the service between the MTA and the phone operators lets not even talk about the drivers OMG Just absolutely Horrible service! By rare occasions, you come across a great driver professional helpful kind , but majority of the time your not so lucky sad to say ! Sometimes you get lift outside for hours before anyone comes rain, snow smh They need to make improvements badly across the board in every department! ASAP

From functional to garbage. I had a functioning app that was useful and quick to see when my subway train would arrive. Now with the update, I can’t even find the subway information without extra effort and then it doesn’t even show my nearest station. When I look by location it only shows bus lines. What a waste of taxpayer money to make such a garbage app. I’d rather use Google maps. Fire the whole dev team and at least taxpayers no longer have to pay for incompetency.

Not tracking bus on map route. The previous version i was able see the busses on the route map easily. How many were coming and in real time. No matter if I zoomed out, they were shown on the route. This new version, I cannot see the busses. I zoom in or out and no busses on the route. If i look at my stop, i see one is 5 min away and 35 min away, but why not on the route like before? I appreciate the work into this app but pls bring that feature back. I regret updating my app 😔

GPS is all screwed up.. I’ll be in Brooklyn and tree app will think I’m in Midtown. Then suddenly the map will update and it’ll think I’m on the LES… Google Maps and every other app have location accuracy so it’s not my phone. Latest update also seems to not work with bookmarked addresses (“work” “home” etc) but only if you type in the entire address, defeating the point of having them.

Update ruined functionality. The update completely ruined the functionality of the app. I used to be able to quickly see when trains were arriving at each station to catch the next arriving trains and compare different routes, now I can even seem to find where that function is. Route finding apps for tourists already exist, the old function was something you couldn’t get elsewhere. Is this a sick joke? I’m so confused

Much improved!. The new version of this app with the map-based design is SO much better! It’s snappy, easy to figure out, and it seems like all the arrival info for trains and buses is finally reliable. Thank you for this big update!

Best update!. This looks and feels way better than the old design and I'll no longer have a need to keep using Transit since this now shows live time and estimated instead of just estimated time

Worst update. How do you manage to downgrade an app with an update. All I wanna do is to be able to see how far the bus is, now I have to do a whole trip planner and enter my address just to see how far the bus is, and the time is always inaccurate saying “3 minutes | 15 stops away” also when I select a bus why can’t I select the direction? If you’re reading this save your time and use the transit app instead

Wrong Info, Favorites Moved. The worst. Defaults to show “nearby” and always puts buses first, useful to NO ONE. Train times are constantly wrong, it shows a train 1 minutes out when it’s actually 3, resulting in people thinking the train has left when it hasn’t. Favorites are a joke because even if you do click, they default to show the line from farthest point away from the city first—USELESS, again, and wrong! Revert to the old one, at least it was CORRECT.

I miss the old MTA app. The new version looks prettier but it is SO difficult to use. To find the time my train will arrive at a station I need to: click on my favorites, click on the train, click on the route, scroll through the WHOLE ROUTE including ANY stop that train CAN make stops at even when it usually doesn't, find my stop, and THEN I can see the time it's coming. This is an incredibly annoying and inefficient app. Please take the new design choices and apply them to the former layout!!

Planned Service Changes. I use(d) this app to look up changes I will have to deal with for my upcoming work week(s), but cannot find a way to pick (change to) the upcoming future days for which I need to see changes… it seems now there is only current (today’s) status, with no way to bring up the calendar to pick a different day

I love the new MTA app redesign.. This new app redesign is much better, and it seems they listened to customers' feedback. The new app is easy to understand and easy to navigate. One thing they are missing is the ability to pay in the app or have a virtual MetroCard.

Easier, cleaner, better info. Can’t comprehend people that miss MyMTA. The new app is a vast improvement, especially for bus information. It can be slow to find a location, but overall it’s made getting around much easier

Updated review: no complaints. I don’t think this was the best rollout for an app revamp where features were slowly added back in, but I feel the new app has parity with the old app, as far as my own user experience is concerned.

Takes forever to find what I need. I used to be able to tap my train from the home, then see it in the direction I’m used to (uptown to downtown), then easily see what time the train is coming. Now even with a train as my favorite, I have to change the direction of the stops and then choose, and I get way too much info but still don’t see what time the trains are coming, just how many minutes away they are.

Barely usable. Whenever I want to find the nearest subway stop it shows me 20 bus lines that I have to scroll threw and sometimes there’s no subway stops listed so I have to search the line to find the stop. It used to be so easy. Why not put the busses and subways in a different section? And why not show all the trains at a station together even if it’s different tracks? It’s so confusing. Also half the time it shows me in the wrong part of town

Give us the old app back. The “new and improved” mta app was the biggest waste of money. The old app was great, especially for anyone who takes the bus. The old app would always locate you on the map, you could actually see where your bus is on your route and the time was always spot on. The new app is so unnecessarily confusing, hard to navigate and always gives INCORRECT TIMES. Please just give us the old ugly app back.

On a second thought. Dark mode was awesome on my previous comment but now I agree with most reviews. It is more complicated than the old one. Should have been dark mode but the same layout or UI. Can't customize the preferred transport anymore or hard to find.

Terrible to navigate, busy and clunky. This app update is far worse than the old one. It is no longer possible to quickly jump to a subway line and station to see the train times and plan when to leave to grab a train. This now requires navigating twice screens and scrolling. Th print is very fine and screen very busy, further slowing things. Terrible UI. Please roll back to something cleaner, including the old one. Bus navigation sort of ok.

The old app worked better. This app would be great were it not so quirky. I have a hard time getting the correct location (with that feature enabled on my phone). And when it does work, it’s annoying to have to scroll and scroll to get to the information I want. When I try to view a particular train route, the stations are listed in odd order. I much prefer the old app.

Terrible revamp.. App went way downhill with the new revamp. Can no longer search for the “fastest route” so its more limited in that sense, but also, they are using a different database for addresses that is outdated. When I type in my kids school it provides the school’s last two addresses and not the current one. That wasnt a problem on the older app. It also just takes longer to use and is less user friendly. Huge F.

WHY IS NOTHING SHOWING IN THE MAP???. Before this update, I used to be able to see live on the map where the buses are. Now after this update, not a single bus is showing on the map. This is such a bad update. Who's idea was this? Did anyone test this? No one? Who approved this? As a frequent user of this app, my honest review is that this is THE WORST UPDATE to have ever been approved. Give the users the option to revert back to the original version of this app.

I’ll Tell You What….. I have a Change of Heart. Its actually Pretty Good. I originally gave it 1 Star. It just takes a little getting used to. The Old App was beautiful and had a nicer interface. But once You get the hang of this one you’ll appreciate it.

Terrible update. This new update is atrocious. Whoever gave the green light to change the app needs to be fired immediately. It’s not user friendly at all, they took off features that were actually helpful (such as bus tracking). It made things from being so simple to complicated for no reason. Using it just makes me frustrated and I’m honestly going to delete this app and not even use it anymore. Do better

Why update an app and make it worse???. The older version used to show where and what stop the Bus were at in real time. I liked to use that as a second indicator for when texting doesn’t go through for the bus time. Now this app doesn’t show it at all and they expect us to go by the “scheduled arrival”. So there could be no buses in route yet the app still displays the arrival like there’s a bus on the way when there isn’t. What are we doing here ? Why make the app worse?

Don’t fix what ain’t broke. They “fixed” it anyway.. The previous app worked reliably. Now, even after giving it time to learn, takes more steps to find out when my next train arrives. Roght jow I can’t even do that, no information comes into the app while I wait for w train, even deleted and downloaded and it’s still crashed. Old app never did this. I wonder how much money was spent developing this new terrible app instead of leaving the old one alone.

Is this a joke?. This new app doesn’t even have the same information as the old one. There’s no way to see planned service changes. The new status page layout makes it hard to see all the lines that have delays. It made way more sense grouped by status than by line. There are so many bad UX choices I’m seriously in shock. This app is so bad and it’s worse than what existed before. Bring back the old app, this one is a total joke.

An incredible improvement. I’m biased because I was a beta tester, but this new update (March 2024) is a game changer for this app. Finally, the MTA has a sleek and helpful app that befits the largest transportation system in North America. There are still some improvements to be made, but I encourage New Yorkers to give this new app a try.

Faking reviews…. A month ago this app had a 1.8 out of 5 and now it suddenly has over 4 again? Please explain to me how that can be when the VAST majority of the reviews are poor. In stead of listening to people’s criticisms and suggestions for improvement they’re taking the time to have reviews faked and or removed. What is happening??? This app is a nightmare and a half and their response is even worse

Smart favorites prompt blocks info and won’t close. I opened up the app to see if there were any changes to my favorite routes. Unfortunately there was a prompt for “smart favorites “ blocking the info I needed to see. I’m not interested in setting that up, but I can’t get rid of the prompt. I followed the prompt and clicked on “maybe later “ since there wasn’t an option for no. It just returned me to the prompt that was still blocking the info I need to see.

It's non-functional if maps don't show.. That's right; the app can't even load a map! It also nags users with a pop-up screen every time they open the app if they don't have Location Services enabled. (Some of us don't want to use that feature as a matter of privacy, but the app won't respect users' preferences.) C'mon, tech team, you're representing New York City for the whole world! You can do better than this ...can't you?

Bloated and unintuitive. This latest version is very convoluted. If you’re a subway user you have to scroll through pages of bus info before finding what you need. Very messy and overbuilt! It’s to hard to find out when the next few trains are at any given stop and that’s the primary reason to get the app! Maybe there should be separate apps for busses and subways. I’ve gone back to the simple “subway time” app.

The Old Format Was Better. This layout is too busy. I don’t always need to see every train passing by my stop when I’m just trying to see the status of update on one train. It’s also not accurate when it comes to updates. I regularly see that when my train is scheduled to arrive, no train comes by. The app is not reliable 30% of the time.

Handy and convenient. It took me a minute to get used to the new app, but I have to say seeing the arriving buses and subways all in the same place is very handy! look forward to seeing more feature upgrades as time passes. Now if only the MTA could get the buses and subways to run on time…

Worked great until recently. The most recent update completely broke this app—now reports zero transit data, no bus lines, no subway lines, nothing. Every screen has an infinite loading animation and nothing works. Shame, because it was honestly pretty good for live bus&subway reporting and was nice to see the MTA do something right for once. Same as it ever was…

New app update 3/26. The new update makes it worse then the previous buggy version. What have you done to this app!! You can not even see how many people are on the bus anymore. It now a guessing game if you have to stand or if you can get a seat. So it is even less accessible to the disabled. All the MTA does is constantly mess up no matter the money they get.

Why did they change it?. I use this app daily. Without warning they completely changed the look and arrangement. It used to be clean and clear and very straightforward to use. Now I have trouble just answering a simple question like “is the L train running between 8 Ave and 3 Ave this weekend?” It’s so busy visually and actually hurts my eyes to try to navigate. I’m a millennial too, tech native. No basic app should be this difficult to use. PLEASE RETURN TO THE OLD FUNCTIONAL VERSION

New update is TRASH. The MTA app used to be quick and easy to use and you’re looking at the train schedule. Click a line, scroll to your station (listings were North to South) and the time table was there. Now there are so many extra steps, if you’re trying make a fast decision, you might miss your chance. It’s no longer user friendly. Extra steps that MIGHT be designed with the tourist in mind, but not the people who rely on it daily to get around the city.
