Tells you tons of stuff you never knew. This app’s sense of humor is great especially doing hairpin turns going to Hana(don’t bother the road is made to scare you silly at 15mph) Trick to keep your phone charged: unplug your charger when a commentary appears at the bottom of your map then you can hear what he’s saying but keep your phone charged but plugging back in after the 2 minutes of talking. It does go through a charge pretty fast

Kids and parents loved it!. The Maui and Hana tours were the best money we spent on the island. This tour was recommended to us ahead of our visit and I am so glad we purchased it. The guide’s advice led us to beautiful places we never would have known about. The ride back through Hana was so full of history we would never have experienced otherwise. Our boys (8,8 & 11) actually looked forward to car rides because they enjoyed the tour so much. All of us loved it so much we purchased the Big Island tours for our trip this year.

Road to Hana. Must have app for making this journey, but it could use some improvement if possible. Having this app certainly made the trip much more enjoyable and probably quite a bit safer. Pay close attention because it doesn’t seem to have a way to rewind it if you missed something. Although the navigation telling with you when something is getting close is nice but it didn’t seem to tell you in mileage which would make it a bit better.

What a perfect addition to a trip!!!. We just finished our trip to Maui and have been blown away by this app. It worked flawlessly, made the road to Hana an absolute success and was hands down better than a tour guide. We loved the random facts about the island, tips and tricks on where to park, find scenic overlooks, great beaches and it was so informative. Knowing how awesome this app is from now using it, I would have paid $50. It’s that good! It made traveling to an unfamiliar place so enjoyable. We loved everything about it!!!!

Love this Audio Tour Guide. Took the family two days to experience the Road to Hana and Haleakala Crater via rental car and it was the best $10 investment. Our tour guide we nicknamed “Don” was knowledgeable, encouraging and funny. Don made our trip 200 times better than if we tried to navigate solo. There were just the right amount of audio instructions that we solely used the app to get us around the entire island...no digital maps required for a second opinion, which is a feat for my non-directional family. We are planning a trip to Kauai next year and I’ll be getting the Kauai app before we go 🎉🤙🤙🤙

Highly recommend. Very informational and fun. Love the automatic GPS location announcements. If you’re a first time visitor, or looking for a bit more history and ‘undiscovered’ recommendations, this app is for you! It does repeat if you drive the same path over and over, for example out of your resort, but we learned to just turn it on when we were approaching a turnoff/start to a trek. This is so great we just purchased it for the big island!

Must Download!!! Worth EVERY Penny!!. Words cannot express how impactful this app has been to us having a successful trip to Maui!!! The narrator is easy to listen to - nothing whatsoever annoying about his voice or manner of speaking. We did a ton of research on our own, but we learned so much from the narration. It helped us navigate our trip to Haleakala and the Trip to Hana, around the island in general, around the West coast of the island which was spectacular! Etc etc etc. We learned nuances no research could give us. It was exceptional - I would use this company for any of their narrator services. The map also helpful. Really loved being given a heads up in upcoming pull-outs through hairpin and switchback curves so we were prepared to pull over vs being too late to turn in. Also — he made sure we didn’t miss any of the spectacular views. When he insists it’s worth the stop, IT IS!!! Take his advice! He’s spot on! I feel like he’s on old friend now. Lol!! They are developing more apps for more locations— now that I now about it, I will ALWAYS check if one is available wherever travels may take me. Mahalo for making our vacation to Maui even more spectacular!!! Aloha!

Excellent app, missing one small feature. This app is awesome. It’s almost like magic as you drive around on your own and get commentaries about the various areas of Maui. It was our first trip here and we discovered so much. We even stopped at a place coming back from the dumps which is a protected area on Maui and a Park Ranger offered us some context of why the area was protected and was impressed that we already knew it all from the tour. The only thing that could be better with this app is if it integrated into Apple CarPlay so we could see the map on the rental cars screen rather then having to look at the phone. Other then that it was a flawless experience.

Added so much to the experience. This app is absolutely amazing and I will look for it anywhere I go in the future. It pointed out things we never would have known about, and helped to know where certain lookout points where that aren’t marked. We would have missed so many amazing things without the app. It also is better than any tour guide would ever be at providing history of the island. This was money well spent!

Excellent App. We used this app yesterday on our drive to Hana. It improves every aspect. The narration provides helpful tips on what is worth your time and what isn’t. It gives an excellent history of both Hana and Hawaii as a whole. But the most helpful thing is how detailed it is about specific locations, down to the best place to park to see that beautiful waterfall. And on the Road to Hana, parking is extremely limited, so that information is a must.

Fantastic guided tour of Maui. This is by far the best app I downloaded this year, and the price is a bargain for what you get in return. The guide is phenomenal and gave great advice along the way, always stirring us to interesting locations and warning us if some sights were okay to skip in order to save time on the road to Hana. We used all three guided tours of Maui and learned so much about the local geography and history that by the end of our trip our teenagers were hooked and wanted to know more about Queens Ka´ahumanu and Liliuokalani. I only wish I could give him a tip!

Worth every penny. I hardly ever buy apps but with the possibility of limited cell service and needing to make the most of my short trip to Maui I bought this. I’m really glad we had it. Like the description suggests, it’s like a tour guid in the car. It’s not perfect but it’s really really good. It knows which direction you’re going to let you know what’s ahead. It was so helpful to get clues about where to stop and the history/backstory that’s included.

Don’t hesitate to buy this app!. Buy the version for all of Maui. It’s 100% worth it. Just driving around from place to place this app provided great commentary. We noticed that another reviewer had named the guy talking on the app “Dave”; so, so did we. Dave was incredible! He led us around the island expertly and provided tidbits of knowledge all along the way. Our trip was greatly improved having Dave along for the ride taking us through mythology and history. What’s even better, we were playing music in the car on our music app on our phone while running this app in the background. Whenever Dave had something to say, it just naturally quieted the music and Dave dropped some knowledge. His recommendations were spot on and saved us a lot of time and research. The Road to Hana would’ve been completely different without his insights. The GPS worked even when there was little reception (even when the phone Map app wouldn’t work). Any time I plan on road tripping through a foreign land, I will definitely check to see if there’s a GyPSy Guide app for that location.

GyPSy Guide Maui. I never pay for apps, but this was our first trip to Maui, so I purchased this app even though we were traveling with friends familiar with the island. Turned out to be a great purchase. We were directed to treks off the beaten path, and directed to continue past locations where many others were stopped, with the guide telling us there was no reason to stop. There was historical information about Hawaii and Maui between stops. This was an excellent purchase, and I will be looking for more GyPSy apps in the future.

Best app ever!. I was wondering what to do and how, after we landed on Maui. Google, TripAdvisor, reading all the great things. I knew I’d like to visit the national park, but wasn’t sure how, where, etc. Needed a map. Then I found this app. It was like a local expert just hopped in the car. It’s all GPS activated. It knows where you are, and tells you every turn. It suggests things along the way. It made the entire journey so much more relaxed and enjoyable. And only $10? Much much MUCH better than any book. MUCH!!!!! I’ll be looking for this guide for every trip I take from now on.

Pay the $10, you won’t regret it!. You will buy a hamburger for $16, a cocktail for $10-$20, and $10 for sunscreen! I don’t usually pay for apps but if you knew how great this app was you wouldn’t give it a second thought! We got this for the road to Hana and it made the experience 50x better! We had done it before without the app and their is no comparison. He will teach you the history of Maui with excellent narration (the kids 5 and 7 are still retelling the historical tails to friends and family), along with give you tips on the best spots and strategies for making it the trip the best it can be. My wife, my kids and I all LOVE this app! The best $10 we spent on the entire trip!!!

Worth every penny. A must have for anyone visiting Maui; the app is so precise (gps) and aware of location and brings up fascinating stories. Tells you whether it is with the stop or not depending on your interests. The only thing I would suggest is that along with the GPS if it can take into consideration the “time of day” to further guide the visit (accelerate or slow down) the stops would be super helpful. Will be headed to the big island next and will be downloading the app next. Thank you for the great app

Buy this app. We had a vague idea about what to do while in Maui, but nothing concrete. This app helped plan our week with recommendations on interesting stops and drive plans. What I enjoyed most were the stories about Hawaiian history and culture, and other gems which made the drive much more fascinating. You just start driving and when you hit an audio point it will start directing you. Be sure to have a lighter DC charging cable or a battery pack because it will drain your battery due to the GPS location service running continuously. I did not have the screen displayed and locked the phone while we drove, so we heard audio only. I found the gentleman speaking had a pleasant voice and he made what could be a dry subject enjoyable with his animated stories. We will be buying this app for our next road trip. I hope they will develop more places like Route 66, maybe some for the old west, Tombstone or the Alamo or more National Parks.

Personal Tour Guide (basically). This made our trip to Hana, so much more relaxing and fun. My mom and I were in Maui for vacation and we hadn’t planned a lot of things out. We knew for sure that we wanted to do the road to Hana, but hadn’t done a ton of research on the stops and what not. The day before our trip, I came along a blog that highly recommended this app. So, of course I looked into it and it had nothing big great reviews. First off (and super important), there’s cell no service on the road to Hana. The app is able to continue the GPS, even when you don’t have service. Along with the GPS, the narrator (I named him Dave) tells you where you should stop for gas and food, gives you accurate time lines, let’s you know what’s worth stopping for/the must sees, what’s not worth stopping for, etc. In between spots, he tells stories of Maui’s history, which keeps the long drive interesting and entertaining. It’s almost like you have a personal tour guide accompanying you in the car. This app literally did all of the work for us, we didn’t have to plan a thing really. So if you’re on the fence about downloading, don’t be. It is very, very worth it!

The app does not warn you about closing times.. Narration is wonderful and it feels like he’s a live guide. Downside: We were sold on his “must see” locations on the Road to Hana. We arrived at one of the locations and were turned away, told we needed a reservation. And when we got to the sacred pools, the parks department was not allowing people in because they were closing soon. So, we passed a Lot of great sights to get there, and we were disappointed that they were closed. We felt like the app should have given us time constraint warnings. It’s a long journey... then to be turned away is a letdown. One more thing, there was a stunning pool with 2 waterfalls that we would have passed up listening to the Gypsy App. This was my most favorite pool! I recommend the gypsy app inform about locations and help travelers be wary of time constraints.

Absolutely great!!!. Sadly, can only give 5 stars, not the 10 stars it deserves. Great , great, great app !!! Really is like having a personal tour guide with you. The app works flawlessly. Uses the GPS in in your phone to know where you are (for areas with no cell phone signal). Do remember to charge the phone as you go .Gives turn by turn instructions (“ get into the left two lanes to turn to .....”). Tells you which turn outs and viewpoints to stop at and which you probably should pass by. Tells you when there are upcoming roadside vendors and gives advice at which ones might be worth a stop . Great history lessons as you go along. Our group scoured two guide books, but found this far more helpful. This app is an absolute “must have “!

Amazing - Even for seniors!. My husband 67 and I am 63 just returned from a Hawaiian cruise vacation where our ship docked at four different ports. We rented a car for a day on Maui and decided to give the app a try instead of paying crazy money for an excursion sponsored by the ship. We love the freedom to go where we want and to be able to stay as long as we wanted. This was amazing so much so that we impulsively rented a car last minute on Kauai and bought the guide for that island. The guide has a great voice, sense of humor and talks just the right amount. We highly recommend. We plan on using some of their other apps too as we love our countries national parks plus love to save money.

Wow! A must-use guide to Maui!. We had done extensive research using the internet and guidebooks, so we had a general idea of where we wanted to go, but this app took our sightseeing on Maui to another level. We kept it on whenever we were driving in a new section of Maui for the first time and enjoyed the stories and even sights that were not in any guidebook. It also helped navigate, because when it arrives at an important intersection it explains where you will go if you turn left, right, etc. We will always look for a Gypsy guide like this wherever we travel. Please start building your international catalogue! Would love to use this in Europe and Central/South America! Honestly, this is the BEST app purchase we have ever made for any purpose. Highly recommended.

Awesome app. Great directions, it even warns you about lanes to use and potential traffic dangers. Lots of info about the island while on the way. Mixed with a little corny humor. If you connect to Bluetooth it comes right through the car speaker (awesome). Did not interfere when used with music. Suggests turns for options along the way. Only downside is that if used on a phone (the way we did) it is not useful visually, although this was not a deterrent.

Oahu and Maui Guides. I found that the guide was spot on and the suggestions really enhanced my trip. A fun thing to note was how many people we met that suggested the gypsy guide 😁 and how many I referred to the app. Now suggested updates would be allow user to move the screen around to see what was coming down the road and put a re-center button when you do look further down the road. The other suggestion would be to put in a destination and suggest a route that takes us onto the tour route. Might be a little tougher but we found ourselves going to a restaurant and wanting to go exploring afterwards. Other than that I really enjoyed the commentary and learned a lot about the islands.

A must have app for the road to Hana. We purchased this app for our drive to Hana. It was so helpful to get recommendations on where to stop, as well as tips as to how to navigate the roadway. It felt like the narrator was in the car with us. There were numerous times we asked allowed things like “Did we miss it?” or “Where do we park?” The narrator chimed in with an answer just as we needed it. This app was so well done, with interesting commentary. We learned so much a on our drive! It was better and far cheaper than any tour option we could have taken and allowed us to go at our pace. We liked it so much that we went on the purchase the app for all of Maui, and are looking at mainland destinations that we can use for future vacations! Get the app for your drive to Hana... you will have no regrets!

Download This Now!!. If you are visiting Maui, you absolutely need to download this app. The guide gives so much valuable and interesting information while driving. During the Road to Hana, the guide gives must see stops that we normally would not know about. On the drive back, the guide dives into the history of Hawaii which made the drive itself so much easier. My wife and I ran this app every single time we were on the road. It’s worth the money.

Awesome Must Have. My wife found this app after hearing about it from Trip advisor. This app we used from our hotel to the road to Hana. It’s basically a tour and history guide presented in a fun and time saving way. The guide tells you where to go and also what to avoid. Also, some local food stops, parking instructions were awesome and super helpful. This really enhanced our trip and we stopped at some places we probably would have just missed. I also really liked the return trip with the history lesson about Hawaii. I really recommend this to anyone who wants to make it a great memorable trip.

Best $ we spent. I don’t pay for many apps but this is well worth it. It guided us all over Maui. My 13 year old twin boys were asking me to turn this on so they could hear all about Maui. It doesn’t use any data to use the app. It uses your gos—there are parts of the island where thee is no cell service so this was real handy. It does eat away at your battery but since we were in the car we were connected to the charger. I can’t read maps like I use to (fine print) so the app totally walked you through to where you wanted to go. The only thing I didn’t like was sometimes on the map you would try and move to look ahead on the map and if you tried this it would right away snap to where you were.

Don’t go to Maui without it. Be sure to bring a cigarette lighter type phone charger or a portable battery power bank for your phone. The car’s USB port is not enough. I was also happy to have a portable Bluetooth speaker so everyone in the car could hear. Last piece of advice would be to preview the map in browser mode before you set out on your journey, to be sure you hit all the sites on your list. The commentary is interesting, amusing, efficient, accurate and informative. The speaker’s voice is easy to listen to. Definitely worth the small investment.

Best app ever!!!. Having Gypsy in my car is like having my own personal tour guide. He provided suggestions for places we would have never known about. We used this app for Kauai, Big Island, and now Maui, and I would use no other! You can almost tell who else is using the app by who you run into while you are touring. Definitely make sure you keep your phone plugged in as it will drain your battery down. My only complaint is that if the app isn’t actively displayed on my phone, he won’t play. This isn’t enough to take any stars away since the app is so good.

Amazing. We heard of this app from a friend and it definitely delivered!! We explored a huge part of the island that we wouldn’t have known existed without this app. It guides you step by step to some of the most beautiful locations we’ve seen. You’ll be driving and the speaker will come on and say “around the next corner there’s a break in the guard rail, turn in and follow the road.” You would never know it’s there unless you are familiar with the area. We highly suggest this app if you’re new to the island like we were. Safe travels!!!!!

Very nice to have along for the ride!. We bought on the recommendation of the concierge at our hotel (on Maui). We had rented a convertible so, to be able to hear the guide, we ran it through the car’s sound system via Bluetooth. The phone’s music app kept resuming every time the guide finished a segment. That wouldn’t have been a problem had the guide’s volume been the same as the music’s but it wasn’t. So every time it switched from one to the other it required us to adjust the volume. That was tedious. Nevertheless we enjoyed the content of the app. It worked well with or without a cellular signal (don’t understand how that worked). We highly recommend it for anyone doing their own driving tour. Cheers!

Loved this app!. We bought The Big Island and Maui apps and loved them both. They made driving both islands easier and more enjoyable-- interesting information and humor along the way. The Big Island Circle Drive and Maui Road to Hana would not have been the same without them. Especially appreciated prioritizing the stops on the road to Hana. We used the cigarette lighter the whole time to keep the phone charged as recommended and didn't have any problems. A great tour guide!

Amazing app!. I was skeptical to buy a $10 app, but let me tell you it was the best purchase of our entire trip to Maui! His voice was easy to listen to, the tips and stories were awesome addition, the recommended stops were definitely worth it and the gps was spot on! He would say “just around the next curve you’ll see....” and sure enough 2 seconds later we would take the curve and there was what he was talking about! 100% would recommend this app for anyone driving the Road to Hana!

Maui gypsy tour. Ditto on everything in the post from saphire1000. This is a very informative, interesting and helpful app if touring Maui. Better than just doing your own research and planning. I would add that there is a 1.50 reservation fee to go to the top of mount Haleakala. Can call to reserve 2 months in advance. PLUS, there’s a $25 park entry fee. The ticket is good for the state park (including the road to Hana/7 pools) for 72 hours. We didn’t know that. We drove to Hana (free) then took the additional 45 min ride to the 7 pools. We were bummed to be charged an additional $25fee. So if you want to travel that far (great hikes and views) then plan to go to both places within 72 hours. Have a great trip. Aloha

Hawaii Trip. We used it all 4 islands. What a great app. I have never taken time to write an app review before. But this one is awesome. I would have been lost as to what to do on the road to Hana and up to Haleakalā. There is just so much. The GPS is dead on. The descriptions right down to which end of a parking lot to view or hike from. The advice on must do versus nice to do is great. Even advice on shopping and road side food stands. We took along a small blue tooth speaker which helped. It felt like our own personal guide was with us. It was worth every penny. I will look for Gypsy in all my future travels. I only hope they have covered them.

Pretty Good. Pretty good app for a person who has never been to Hawaii and wants to drive to Hana on their own. We would have skipped the 3rd of his 5 top choices though. Also, I wish we would’ve know about the cool selection of food trucks or little small businesses that are right pass halfway to Hana. We are there and the food was not great, then we got to the food park and it all smelled and looked so good. I feel like there were some stops that were overlooked too if you are going the whole way and have the time to stop a bunch like we did. Overall it was worth the $10 to spend on it though.

Saved us a lot and was awesome as well!!!. We are seasoned travelers and We did every part of Maui and “Dave” was with us all the way. Never had such a great drive experience. Didn’t even need a GPS on Maui as he directed us where we wanted to go. He found us free parking spots we never would have found on our own and let us know our park pass was good for the seven pools and Haleakalā for 3 days. We found great snorkeling and beaches and I can’t imagine the Road to Hana without him! He told us when to keep driving what was good to see and what was a must see. This app is a game changer for us and will always check for a Gypsy tour everywhere we go. Saved us much more than the app cost. We will tell everyone coming to Maui to have “Dave” as a back seat tour guide for the whole trip!

Worth it. Incredibly helpful to have. The guide uses way points based on your location using the free GPS signal. Another good feature is the way there is different than the way back so it’s like 2 for 1. I do wish you could click on a point to have it restart the audio because there were a few times we either closed the app mid talk to take a picture or we forgot to turn it back on. Other than that it was awesome.

Get this app you will not be disappointed. I never buy apps but gypsy canned highly recommended to us when we visited the Big Island so we got this one when we went to Maui and it was equally awesome. Even talked my cheapskate BFF to get it (her family was in a different car) and she was reluctant to spend the money but she also loved it! His voice is great and you learn so much. He also gives suggestions of laces to stop along the way to for hiking, sight seeing or shopping. It’s really awesome. It was the highlight of both of our Hawaiian vacations.

Must have for Road to Hāna. We used this while driving the Road to Hāna. I am so grateful I downloaded it! The guide is fun to listen to, and full of excellent insider scoop. I even laughed out loud at one of his jokes at one point. It’s easy to follow along, and start and stop as you explore the different pull-offs. The app gives you a heads up as to what stops are ahead, if it’s a “must do” or maybe something you could pass on if you’re short on time. Easy to follow directions and expect when to turn off and where to park. On the ride back, it tells all sorts of history and cultural background. We learned so much. The app is very easy to use and never loses your location. It works without cell service (which you won’t have on the road to Hāna). Just make sure you download before starting the drive, have a charger handy, plug it in and enjoy the guided ride! This is beyond worth the money.

Best Vacation $ Spent. We heard about Gypsy from a friend and are sure glad we downloaded the app! It's the Best $10 we spent the whole week. We're early 60s and like seeing the sights and picking up on the local culture. The Gypsy guide was a delightful companion and the engaging narrator felt like a favorite cousin along on our travels. We never would have learned so much or known of the unique island histories along the way without our friendly Gypsy companion. We will look for other such apps on our next trip. Thank you Gypsy for the research and attention to detail that made our Maui week special.

Great App!. I’ve never written a review of an app before, but this one was amazing. I was originally looking for an app to use on the Road to Hana and decided to purchase the whole Maui tour instead (since it was only a few dollars more). It worked beautifully - it lead us to some great locations on the Road to Hana, including a couple of minor detours off of the road that became our favorites. The app was accurate and on your back from the Road to Hana reviewed some interesting history. We used it on other parts of Maui as well and it worked great. We saw a small animal running around and couldn’t figure out what it was - at one point the app even told us that! lol. Well worth the money - glad we purchased it.

Best Travel-$10 Ever Spent. This app and the guide became one of the best things about my trip to Maui. If you’re considering getting the Road to Hana, do yourself a major favor and get the entire island. It was incredibly useful just to open the app any time in the car and let the guide tell us about everything wherever we happened to go. One of the best apps I’ve ever used and certainly the most informative. I’ll likely purchase the entire Hawaii collection. Please make these apps for all of Earth!

Great value and excellent info. Loved this guide. Very helpful for my 3rd trip to Maui. Got to see more using the app than On prior trips due to the app. Host is pleasant and fun and not boring. Info was very useful. I would give it 4.5 stars but that was not an option so I picked 4. The half star off was due to one problem with the Ching Pond swimming hole advice. We could not find the path down to the pond despot following his instructions and then finally a local told us that the pond was not safe to swim in so we left disappointed. We used the guide for road to Hana, Haleakala, West Maui and central Maui. The only trip we could not make time for was Iao Valley. Awesome app. Highly recommended!

Super helpful. This app is awesome for getting around on Maui. We enjoyed it and learned a lot. It would be really awesome if there were updates-for example some trails and the pools at Oheo were closed and it would have been nice to know that. Another improvement could reminders of the stops on the way down from Hana. I know you can click on the arrows going in the other direction, but as the driver that was not safe option. Actually the app does help the driver stay safe as there is no need to look at the phone or a guidebook. I highly recommend it.

This is an indispensable app and well worth the price. I absolutely loved this app and I would have given it 5 stars but after I went to all the places it takes you to with great dialog and fun information I was left hanging. So I drove to all the places it left off and was more or less discouraged. I understood ending where it did on the Road to Hana tour. It’s rough and if you are not experienced driver you might get into trouble. However, the trip to Nakalele Blowhole could have also added The Olivine Pools and maybe to Kahakuloa Beach. Completely safe coming from Nakalele Blowhole. Beyond that it is one lane blacktop. While I felt completely comfortable and safe even there, I could see that stretch and the added traffic load that an app like this might cause is a good reason to stop before the 1 lane road to be acceptable. I was here 20 years ago and the Road to Hana was very similar to The Road To Olivine Pools when coming from the airport. Road to Hana is now a piece of cake.

Worth it and super helpful. We saw in another review, the user named the tour guide. Our family named him Toddson Dukelely (yes there is a story behind that). This app was super relevant and when plugged into the Car Play app in the rental car, he just piped in with his stories and instructions as we drove. This app definitely enhanced our trip and was very informative about the entire island and it’s history. Worth purchasing, no doubt!

WORTH IT! I’d pay double. Seriously, enhanced our trip SO much. Everywhere we went pretty much, there was new information and so much history we got to hear through “Bobs” story telling (we named him bob). He was funny, informative, well planned, detail oriented... just AWESOME! Loved him on the road to Hana, and all the back roads to Paia. He was AWESOME! Thank you so much for the time and effort put into this app. Such an inexpensive way to have a personal tour guide around Maui. Great guide plus added culture and history as you drive. It made a Normal drive along the coast really interesting, told us about sights and activities to look out for on the go plus gave us a great insight into the culture and history of the location we were driving. Added benefit was once we downloaded the app we didn’t need data to use the app when driving around which is fabulous.!

Just drive. I wanted to know the details before we started driving, what it was and wasn’t going to tell us etc. What we found was if you just put it on and drive you’ll get a great experience from the beginning. We really enjoyed our gypsy guide.

Won’t be the first to say this. Probably the single best app ever - both in terms of content, but of ease of use. Just finished the short trip from our Hana beach condo to the sacred pools, and as far as we’re concerned it paid for itself on the first morning. If only it could broadcast message to other tourists as to what “yield to oncoming traffic” actually means. We’ve got three more weeks to wring more enjoyment out of this app. Mahalo nui loa.

Awesome audio guide for self touring. Used this in a rental car with blue tooth stereo and was able to drive around and hear all the history of Maui and secret turn off spots. Worked great and totally worth the money. A must if you are going on the road to Hana!

Amazing...no other way to describe it. Just returned from the famous Road to Hana trip. The guide was incredible. Describe stops in plenty of time, providing exact timing to pull off. I know, with GPS, easy but first time used outside of GoogleMaps and Apple Map app that effectively. My only thoughts would be to have ability to flag stops on return trip so can stop if left early enough that several stops were closed. Still, amazing knowledge base and the speaker for the trip is entertaining, witty yet fortunately, not annoying as some speaker apps are I’ve tried in the past

Perfect addition to Maui road trip. Little did we know how much the GyPSy Guide would add to our road trip on Maui. The narration is professionally done and very knowledgeable. We learned so much about Maui, it’s culture, people and land that is hard to find in a guide or on a general tour. The GPS is spot on and even more precise then google to find your way around. Best Maui guide ever. I looked online to plan my trip, searched where to go and what to see and I even asked the hotel tour vendor but nothing came close to all the information and direction. I also found the stories and history lesson very interesting. I would recommend it to anyone. I will also get the one for the Oahu.

Wonderful tour aid. Just returned from Maui and used the app to Hana, and to the top of the volcano. Great commentary and pointed out things other guides did not. Picked up my play list and ran music in the background. Only ask would be some mixing controls - the volume without commentary was too loud so I was always needing to change volume. I would highly recommend this app!

We loved this!. We really appreciated this app for many reasons. We found beaches, turn offs and Parking lots (free parking as well in Paia) tucked away where you wouldn’t have known otherwise. He helped guide us around the whole island! We fondly named him ‘buddy’ “Hey lets turn on buddy and see what he says about this place/ road etc” He was great on the road to Hana as well and gave historical info too. Would definitely use him again! I mean .... it. The app!

Got a lot more out of our travels. There are many things we never would have seen had it not been for GyPSy. The commentary can be a bit folksy, but the information is excellent and sounds sincere as if you are getting advice from a local. Nice that it points out things to miss when there is a pack of cars, nowhere to stop and nothing to see. Would be nice if there was a way to scan through a transcript of what was said in case you want to go back to what was said later. Also would be nice if it pointed out stuff very briefly on the return trip in case you skipped it on the way out, like the trip to Hana.

Simply Amazing. We recently went on a trip to Maui, I have to say, without this app, our trip would have been a disaster. This app helped us straight out of the airport, to the crater, and on the road to Hana, all while giving exceptional information and tips. I Highly recommend this to anyone who wants to do some exploring on their own .

Excellent tour guide!. We really enjoyed the interesting information, but also the practical suggestions. We started the Road to Hana a little later than we had intended (partially because of technical difficulties linking my phone to the rental car stereo). As a result, it was really helpful to hear things like “if it’s after 1 pm, you may want to skip this stop and make sure you see the next one”. I also really liked how the app tracked which direction we were going and told different stories for each direction.

Great Info. I bought this app a couple years ago and really enjoyed it. Going back again and looking forward to discovering more. What would make it amazing is if they update it.

Best App Ever. This app is amazing! It is very simple to connect. Once you turn it on, it knows your location and starts guiding you. It tours you through all the points of interest. The directions are accurate and precise, very easy to follow. The narrator is great, and gives a lot of interesting history. ( as well as a few jokes) I highly recommend this app for your touring pleasure.

Great Tour Guide. I don't write a lot of reviews but I wanted to for this app. We visited Maui and used this app while driving around and exploring the island, I highly recommend getting this app!! The commentary was great and we learned a bunch of history on the locations we went to and it added an enjoyable extra to our drives. Only thing I wished was for the commentary to continue past the "seven sacred pools" as we drove around the South end of the island, which it didn't

Best money spent for a built in guide!. Really a great app. Hook it up or blue tooth it and the guides just start telling you great stuff as you drive. One of the best apps I have purchased to date!

Tours only work one way. Tried to use this for reverse road to Hana but couldn’t as it didn’t point out any of the main sights. I can’t imagine it being that hard to allow the tours to occur both ways. The instructions aren’t very clear either (ex pointed out Venus Pond stop but not much info on how to get there). Almost got the whole Hawaii package but glad I didn’t as I didn’t find much value in this.

Great. This app was exceptional once we got the rental car to play it through the speakers. The only item I would recommend would be to play music in the background or in between the speaking parts.

Not recommended. This app was good 2yrs ago but since then it hasn’t had updates. Most importantly app doesn’t run in background and on ios8 devices GPS doesn’t always activate even after rebooting phone and reinstalling app.

Amazing App. We downloaded the app for the Road to Hana initially but loved it so much we downloaded the Full Maui app. I can't say enough good things about this app. It's educational, the guide points out "must sees", best parking areas and great places to eat. Best app ever!!. We don't normally write reviews but this app is so good we broke the rule. A great GPS guide as well as educational and fun commentary. The information presented in the commentary is interesting without being too commercial or overwhelming. The GPS is very accurate, down to which lane or parking lot you should use. If you just listen to "George" and "Georgia" (as we affectionately named them) you can't get lost. The directions are spot on. They also provide great options for long routes (such as The Road to Hana), giving you suggestions for all the stops or providing a list of highlights if you are trying to keep to a schedule. Well worth the $12 (CAD) we paid. Absolutely a must for a trip to Mauii. Also saw a comment regarding iPhone operating system ios8, worked fine for us though it does have to be running in the foreground - that being said, don't know why you would want/need it in the background, as the whole point of this app is to listen and learn, not check email or Facebook (especially if you are the driver!!) TL;DR: download this app. It's awesome.

Best travel app. We were hesitant to buy this app as it is expensive but we totally loved it. It gave us a great tour of Maui and really made the trip to Hana a lot better as well as the creator tour. I highly recommend this app.

Did not work,. Tried 2 different destinations and it did not work at all. When in Kihei, it was ok. As soon as we headed North, it stopped working. Very disappointing.

Really worth buying!. We knew nothing about Maui. The guide was uncannily accurate, pointing out interesting things and offering advice on what to do (and not do!) in plenty of time to make choices. Our trip was greatly enhanced by having this available. Can recommend it without reservation. If these guys sold stock, I'd buy some.

My wife and I found this app an app that is actually as useful as claimed The narrator is very clear and has a sense of humour which is a nice touch no need to have a second person read a map and look up info As you drive no matter where you start he gets on the road with you filling you with tips details history etc. And when you say take in a luau it fits the historical dance with his insights A real plus is you can go at your own rate and you don’t even. Red a cell connection. No chance of losing a cell tower and the data not matching you location. You can be sure I will use this app for other tours if they are available to my next vacation

Great addition to our trip. We rented a car and drove around to many parts of the island. Having this Gypsy app loaded and installed on my phone greatly added to the enjoyment of our day trips. I turned all data off on my phone (so as to not incur excessive roaming charges), and plugged the phone into the car sterio. The GPS on the phone would track direction on its built-in map. When you hit way-points, interesting dialog (including directions) would play.

Soothing commentary. Love the stories and history. We really enjoy the male voice. Very calm.

All you need to tour Maui. This app knows where you are and takes you to exactly where you want to go. On the way the narrator, who we named "Seth", because he is hilarious and has such entertaining delivery, describes the landmarks we need to see, recommends where to get food, and tells stories of ancient Maui. It's better that going on a tour! Best $10, we ever spent!

Love this app!. Worth the small cost. Has great historical and modern audio points. Toured the whole island on two separate trips. Loved listening to the stories. also gives great directions to different areas of the island while driving. Just be sure to plug the device into the power source in the car! Eats a lot of battery power. Didn't use roaming, only GPS locations. Just bought the Rocky Mountain one too!

Best $15 spent. We used Gypsy all around Maui. All the historical facts were so interesting. The directions were precise. We named him Bob! His voice so clear and easy to listen to.

Maui tour. This app made our vacation in Maui that much better, if that's even possible considering how beautiful the place is to begin with. Without the guidance and history the guide provided throughout the Road to Hana and the trip to Haleakala, there is no way my g/f and I would have enjoyed it as much. Not to mention, we would have had no idea where to stop during the Road to Hana without the advice of our guide. I would have paid double for this app.

One of the best apps ever. I only recently heard about GPS tour apps from a friend and with our Maui trip coming up I decided to see what was out there and bought the full Island version. Very glad we did the narrator does a great job of letting you know what you are driving by and the history. On top of that we often find ourselves laughing at many of his jokes. We have used the apps for the Road to Hana and the drive to the crater and everyone in the car loved what we heard and learned. He will tell you the best places to stop and what not to miss. It really is like getting the one advantage of the over priced tour buses, which is information. Without all the annoyances that go with the tours and the cost. Note you do need a device with GPS built in for the app to work, it does not use data. I used on IPhone 6S without issue. I definitely will use some of their other tours for the mainland this summer when we go camping ( Canadian Rockies )

Maui tour guide. The best tour guide! We were able to explore the whole island of Maui in our rental car. The app told us about all the stops with plenty of time before hand so we could decide if we wanted to stop, what to look for, the cost if any, and where to park. Then on the return trip back the app gives you the history of the area. The best $10 I spent the whole week in Maui.

Must get. We have been to Maui a couple times but this is the first time we used this app. It made it so much more interesting to know the history of all the places we have drove through many times. It was extremely accurate on landmarks and directions.

Get this app!. I debated about buying just the Road to Hana one or this one or neither. Decided to go for it and get this one. Best decision ever! It made Road to Hana so easy and made the ride back home more enjoyable. We loved turning this app on every where we went. Works great. Does tend to wear your battery down but we brought a car charger along and had no problems. If in doubt don’t be! Get the app it will be worth it!

Great app. Worth the price especially when you don’t have service on the winding road points out everything you want to see we started at 5:30am still didn’t see everything on the road even though we ended at the seven sacred ponds at 5:40pm The way back is super helpful to break up the monotony of just driving the 600 turns and 57 bridges

Lived up to the hype. I was skeptical, not being a fan of audio guides, but other than a few minor glitches due to the remoteness of Hana, this app absolutely made our trip! We feel like we made the most of our time & learned a ton along the way. We enjoyed it so much that we bought the Gypsy Guide for our trip to Volcanoes Nat Park as well! Don’t go to either without it!

Maui vacation. A relative of mine told me about this app and it was everything she said and more. We loved it! It was like having your own travel guide. The only problem we saw was that you need to go in the direction he says to. If you wanted to start at the other end you sometimes didn’t get the best information. But it is well worth its cost.

Best app ever. Found this gem while we were in Maui. And have loved it!!!!!! I wish I had it while exploring Honolulu. Now we have to go back and learn all about that island. Fantastic App- invaluable!!. For $10, we learned SO MUCH about the Hawai’ian culture. He kept the driving interesting. We drove the entire island and then some, so we hit most of his commentary and it was honestly better than any tour guide. Bonus: no need to tip or deal with waiting for other guests on a bus. Excellent Tour Guide. We just got back from Maui and this was the first time we used a tour app. Gypsy was fantastic. The directions were right on, the voice was clear, and hardly a mile or two went by without commentary or directions. We had one day with a live guided tour and it didn’t come close to the info that we got from the Gypsy tour.

The Only App You'll Need. I never write reviews but I had to take the time to say how much my wife and I enjoyed this app guide on our vacation to Maui. It was amazingly accurate as if he was sitting in the car with us. Follow the guide and he won't lead you wrong. One sec my wife as something to add... I found the app to be very informative and entertaining I learned a lot about Hawaiian history that I did not know.

Totally worth it and super helpful!!. This was an awesome app to have on our first trip to Maui! It played automatically when we arrived at points of interest, told us where to park and gave great tips for places to visit. My husband drove the entire way to and from Hana and while everyone fell asleep on the way home, this app kept him awake with interesting Hawaiian history and stories. For $10, this app was worth a 24/7 tour guide!

Don’t hesitate and get this App!. We really enjoyed this App! Great useful tips and routes! We used the App and went all over Maui and trust me, this is better than any tour. Great commentary and great humor. Make sure to check National Park though, we drove all the way to the sacred pools after Hana, as the app suggested but they were closed.

Don’t know what we would have done without it!. This app works without using data which is great since we didn’t have service frequently on the island. So informative, tells you everything you need to know! Places for food, gas stations, scenic view points, etc. also gives you a history lesson. Money well spent!

Great app/ one question. This was so easy and super informative. Would like to know if they get updated? For instance nothing about COVID and all the roadside stands that were closed. Most of the suggested stand stops were not open. There were a few other updates I thought about also. This app is a must for Maui and I’m looking forward to using the others.

This app is with every penny. We really enjoyed having our very own tour guide in the car with us! The accuracy of where we were and what we were seeing was amazing. Excellent self tour app of Maui. We used this app our first time to Maui and LOVED it. When we went to Kauai, we bought that one too. Both are great. There are so many things / places covered, you feel like you won’t miss anything when you’re driving around. And it inspires you to do that - just drive around and see what else there is... Travel-changing!!. My friend and I are frequent world travelers, yet this was our first experience with a tour guided app like this one and we were incredibly impressed! We were actually sad when this guy wasn’t talking! The advice and suggestions felt so personally curated, advising us based on what time of day it was, etc. The app certainly made our trip to Maui more informative and easy than it would have been without it.

Absolutely made the trip for us. This was our first time visiting Hawaii and therefor first time visiting Maui. We always wanted to do a little more than just spend time at the resort but weren’t sure how to do it. Just open the app and it’s like having a very fun tour guide in the car with you at all times. GPS was always on point and directions were spectacular. We went on four amazing drives and had this guide on every time we were in the car. Made the trip so much better than it was going to be. Piece of advice. You don’t need to buy Hama and Haleakala. This has those already included.

Maui Gypsy guide driving tour. We downloaded this app to accompany us on the Road to Hana. It was invaluable in our travel! We felt like we had a tour guide right there with us for a fraction of the price of a regular guided tour plus we were able to do things at our own pace. I highly recommend!

Must Have in Maui. This is a great app! Worth the $10. Learned many things we would not have known. We also used the Unrevealed book so between these two guides we felt set exploring Maui as we drove ourselves and had no tour guides. Love that it did not need data but does drain your battery but I was prepared with an external charger and car charger. Would recommend to all!

Great Tour Companion. This is an awesome app, a must for anyone planning to see all sites in Maui. Highly recommend it. Few reason for 4 Star, here it is: 1. App does not work too well when you are using it on same phone for navigation. App has to be open on screen not in background. 2. Would be better if it is little more smart and able to have different commentaries based on time, weather, and other items. 3. Tie with some common travel app ( google) so as you are traveling you can see where there are comments and pick route with more comments. 4. Have some history that you can listen to before even starting the trip. Together with that, have some ways to help people plan out their plans based on number of days. Great app, it can be improved with some added features.

Totally worth it. This app is fantastic! The narrator is a hoot and we could not be happier with this product. We would like to have this in all of our driving trips! EVERYONE GOING TO MAUI SHOULD BUY THIS APP. We just noticed a small ad and feel very lucky. ADVICE: GET THE WHOLE ISLAND TOUR. You’ll enjoy it so much that you will wish you had. (We got the whole island).

Worth it. There are 2 things that made driving around Maui extra pleasant: Native 92.5 (FM radio station w/ Island music) and this app. Didn’t even do the Road to Hana, but drove up and down Haleakalā, as well as throughout Kihei, Wailea, Paia, and toward Lahaina. This app’s commentary made everything come alive, keeping us entertained and informed about what we were seeing.

A must have !. We just used this app for about 8 hours driving the road to Hana and I have to say this was the best money spent! It was like he was in the car. When we wondered about the furry critters running around, the narrator started talking about the mongooses. Very helpful, very entertaining, very much worth the money! If you don’t get it, you’re loss.

Must have for Road to Hana!. This was exactly what we were looking for! Points out where important stops are and gives historical commentary as well. Very pleasant voice to listen to. We were disappointed each time he stopped talking. This is well worth the cost and download!

Wonderful App! Makes the Road to Hāna an amazing adventure. Just completed the road to Hāna today. This app was such a great resource! Knowledgeable and detailed but flexible. The guide was very easy to listen to. He gives a lot potential stops and sights to see but also stresses the most important ones. The timing was right on. We loved the history of the Hawaiian islands on the return trip home. This guide was worth every penny! Thank you!

Maui. This by far was the best money spent on an app. We couldn’t wait to get in the car to listen to all the history as well as hidden treasures along our journey around Maui. We found beaches...blow holes...overlooks and much more that we would have never found without this app. Oh and I can’t forget restaurant recommendations as well! This is a great app!! Nightly recommend!!!

Must Purchase!. This app was a total game changer. Informative and entertaining. We did the Road to Hana and lost cell service right away. The app connects through your GPS so it worked the entire drive there and back. I would use this app for any drive, well worth the money.

PopeyeGP. We were fascinated how seamless (via GPS) the tour direction/highlights/advice kept us aware of where we were and when we could seek out fantastic travel options. Great app for Maui visitors. My wife and I have been to Maui several times and we always load up this app when driving. Very useful for finding where to stop and visit. The commentary is nicely done. Love the narrator. The app does get updated with new narration every year or so, so we are always discovering new things.

Best Deal. This was indeed the best deal we had on our Hawaii trip. We just drove around every corner of Maui and enjoyed every minute of it with this tour guide app. The directions are very accurate. It was fun listening to his narration at your convenience. It’s a complete guide including history, places to visit & places to eat. Highly recommended!
