Newton Calendar Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Unethical, repeatedly price gouge. Purchased a recurring subscription on sale, advertised as being for-life. Newton then decided to "shut-down" for a month and then relaunch and not honor that deal because it had "shut-down". Highly deceptive and unethical business practice that shows they don't care at all about their early loyal users or to adhere to offers they've made.

App keeps crashing. The Newton calendar app keeps crashing (I can’t actually use it.) Update: I give it more stars now, the app now isn’t crashing and is working great.

Great start. I need a search function. Love everything else.

App is great. Sadly, no Apple Watch app.. This application doesn’t rely on the iOS system to gather it’s data. Therefore, it’s accurate when other apps’ data are stale. I rely on it to be the most up-to-date version of my calendar. The only downside is that there is no Apple Watch app. I hope it gets added soon!

Needs major work. This could be a great calendar app with some simple updates. The biggest is a smart date and location recognition feature. There are too many steps to entering a calendar event. Because of this and the constant app crashes, it gets 1 star. Just by adding the smart recognition, it would Boost this app to 4 stars. Really disappointed considering the Newton mail app is amazing. Looks like they put all of their time and resources into the mail app and not the calendar.

Crashes constantly. I paid for subscription and at first couldn’t be happier. As time went on the app keeps crashing and doesn’t send out the invites to attendees when it does my notes in the invite get sent out as gibberish . Regret paying for the app

App Crashes. I just installed the app and every time I open it my phone restarts. I get the skinning wheel with a black screen for a few seconds then I get the lock screen. If it doesn't get resolved before my 14 day trial period is up I'll be uninstalling both the calendar app and the mail app.

Great companion to Newton Mail!. This app is wonderful if you’re a fan of Newton Mail. It’s clearly in its early stages, but it’s off to a great start. A must-have if you like to keep a clean and organized calendar.

Rarely works. Terrible now. App hasn’t updated in a year. Won’t refresh. Stay away

Great start. Promising competitor in the iOS calendar app line up. There are little UI things that I find irksome, but I’m sure things will be further smoothed out with time. I won’t be leaving Fantastical for Newton until managing many calendars on 4 or 5 accounts becomes less cumbersome. But I’m excited to see how this app evolves!

Crashes but has potential. This app crashes every time I open it and tap the setting button. I have already turned my phone off and on, which typically fixes crashes if they ever happen. The developers probably need to release an update fixing the crash and once they do, this app will be great! Wishing it worked with the Apple calendar (considering it’s on iOS).

Keeps crashing. Finally, much needed app but it keeps crashing. I have Office 365 account that I use from work and it pulls in all the events but when I scroll through the events, it keeps crashing. Update : After updating to latest iOS version, the app is stable. Thanks for taking care of this.

Glad Newton is back, but.... Can we please get a watch complication? I'm a paid (again) subscriber of Newton and choose to stay within your family of apps, but using your new source of funds to further development of the calendar app (Mac support?) would be a great move for long-time supporters.

Problem. I do not want a program where I have to sign in. There should be a way to have a program without signing into something. I delete all that asks one to sign in....

Does not Support Exchange ActiveSync! Cannot Use! :(. We love Newton Mail, which works great! However, Newton Calendar shockingly does not support the extremely popular Exchange ActiveSync, so we (and hundreds of millions of other users) cannot use Newton Calendar! (All per emails from Anunay in Newton Tech Support) It is absolutely shocking, and very disappointing, that an otherwise high-quality company such as CloudMagic would release a calendar app that is flagrantly missing support for one of the world’s most popular calendar standards! You can do much better, CloudMagic! Please fix Newton Calemdar! Thanks!

Support for Apple Cal?. I tried to use the app in beta and in final release but all my calendars are using the ical standard and while that might not be the most popular I use it 24/7. I hope the app is updated soon to take advantage of ical or I will have to stick with Apple’s calendar app and Fantastical.

When Apple Watch Widget?!. Great app. Sometimes has problems syncing multiple calendars (especially more so when a meeting has been canceled). But really needs an Apple Watch complication!

Great start, but .... Great looking calendar app that I can see developing into my go to calendar. A few features are missing that I hope will be rolled out soon. 1) No today widget 2) No week view 3) No ability to search for past/future calendar events. Besides that, it’s a very clean looking app.

Beautiful but buggy. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ UX This app is beautiful and easy to use. The UX is mostly great. Adding events is easy with some nice AI to interpret dates and time to speed up the process. ⭐️⭐️ for bugs There are several bugs that have persisted for months on end. Syncing problems: Syncing requires opening the app. I get notifications for events that no longer exist and haven’t for days or weeks. Sometimes canceled or deleted events don’t go away at all. Setting a location is a feature but somehow has never worked. It will show locations that were added outside of this app, though. Missing common features: - Cannot move events between calendars - Years later, still cannot sync iCloud account Don’t get me wrong. I have mad respect for the Newton team. I realize Newton has been though rough a rollercoaster ride over the years, shutting down, coming back, and then all over again. I get that the mail app is the core product that should regained lost ground first. But the state this app is in has made it almost unusable compared to the standard iCal app. It’s been almost a year without any updates. The syncing issues are the dealbreaker for me. If I can’t reliably see what’s in my calendar, even after manually syncing from opening the app (as opposed to watching notifications), then I can’t really rely on it to tell me what my day holds. So until this gets revamped, I’m moving back to iCal.

No Apple Watch app. This calendar and the mail app seem fine but they lack an Apple Watch app. I don’t know why I would continue using this without being able to check what my next meeting is on my watch.

Needs more views.. One single thing that makes calendar apps great, is the ability to view your appointments and days in different views. Something Newton lacks. A list view of all upcoming appointments for the next week, 30 days and year would be amazing. But right now, Newton isn’t useable. There are too many other better calendars out there. As for mail. Newton does mail right.

Easy to use. Really nice UI, smooth, would be 5 star if let’s you set up auto-conferencing option (google hangouts link)

Crashes. The app no longer launches. It opens and says please wait, warming up and never launches. Unusable.

Still needs a lot of work. This is a nicely designed app. I downloaded it due to already using Newton. But this app lacks a weekly or monthly view. There are already much more functional calendar apps on the market. This app needs some serious work. Now that Newton is back perhaps they will be able to develop this app to be more functional.

Awesome. Not only is this an awesome cakendar, but ilove the detail you guys put into having the two app icons work cohensivly. Had to rearrange my home screen. Was worth it, would do again. 5/5

Wonderful!. I've been looking for a calendar companion to the mail app. And they've delivered a beautiful substitute to Apple's. So far, it plays nicely with my Gmail and company exchange email. I cannot complain! Now, if they implement a clean dark mode for both suites, they'll have a user for life! Keep it up!

Doesn’t have support for iCloud or Outlook Calendars.. I use Fantastical/Flexbits but I wanted to take a look at Newton Calendar to try and consolidate my spending each year. I use iCloud for my calendar and it isn’t supported. Says in the FAQ “coming soon” but that could mean anything. 1 star for being available on Apple and not accepting/utilizing iCloud Calendar. App looks nice and I’m sure it functions ok but I can’t use it.

Great start from a great developer. So far, the app is working great for a first try. There’s a lot of improvement that can be done though and I know that this dev can do it. I would love to see added different view modes (The ability to change between month, multiple days, and day mode. Similar to how iOS does their’s.), A to-do function (being able to have something similar to the reminders app inside would be amazing), and finally, more settings we can play around with would be great. I would love to switch over to using this full-time, the colors are great, design is beautiful, just a little more functionality it would be perfect.

Solid Calendar App That Does The Basics Well. I love that i don’t have to rely on fetch for my Google calendar updates. It’s a downside of many calendar apps on iOS that rely on system settings that no longer allow google push notifications, this app navigates around that problem beautifully. I’m also very fond of the UI! At first it struck me as simple, but the more I used it I realized it added a beauty and elegance to its design. The fully expanded widget is my favorite calendar widget I’ve used on iOS. I’ve seen some say they don’t like the icon because it doesn’t look like a calendar app. I think the newton mail app and the calendar app side by side complement each other and add a sense of continuity between them. It makes me happy that they are two separate apps so they can brighten up my home screen like that! There is always room for improvement in any app. The one thing I would suggest presently is the ability to set custom notification times within the app and not just from the drop down of preselected options. But overall keep up the great work!

Good start, needs more support. Needs support for iCloud calendars as well. I keep work and personal separate and need support for my iCloud calendar as well if this is going to be a true replacement. Like what I’m seeing so far though.

Crashes. Crashes every time I open, before I can even use it. And yes, I do have the most recent version of iOS.

Warming up. Hi, you’ve been warming up for more than 24 hours now. I need access to my carefully-scheduled life, you know.

Do you have any other plan?. Not all smart phone calendar use “Companion “ . If Newton calendar can get email and save to event which I designated someone’s email. then You can use companion I think It can be better more and more Because It is Newton!

Needs IOS & Newton Mail integration. Needs integration with: - Apple calendar and reminders - Newton Email (companion)

Newton Calendar is.... Great so far. I can’t wait to see how far they will take it. Knowing how hard the company aims to please, this will be my calendar of choice. Keep up the great work. You guys rock ALWAYS!!! #1 Fan

Crashes as soon as you go to settings. And yes I’m on the latest version of iOS. The developer said it would be fixed “in the next update” on December 13. The most recent update was January 28th. It’s ridiculous this isn’t fixed.

Can’t figure out how to confirm my meeting attendance.. Solves many other problems though - looking forward to seeing future updates.

It keep crashing on my iPad Pro. The app works ok on my phone, but on when I open the calendar on my iPad Pro it crashes after a few seconds. I have updated to IOS 11.2.6. I love the email app and hope they can get the calendar up to the same standards we have come to expect.

Warming up. Please wait.... I never made it past that loading screen. I waited and waited and waited and waited but it never opened.

Good potential, lacking execution. Nice design, but lacking in execution. The colors of my calendars are nowhere near the same as they are on all of my other calendars. Just let the user set their own colors. Problem solved. Also, calendar invites in Newton do not seem to work and open up this calendar app anymore. More frequent updates might be nice. Also, it would be great if you let your users know what features you’re working on, what is planned, and what has been completed. We do pay for a subscription, so not keeping your users in the dark would be great!

I agree. It’s a start.. For a first run at a calendar app, they have made a strong start. It looks nice and entering an event seems pretty easy. It does lack a lot of the advanced features of other calendar apps. So, for now, I’m not leaving Week Cal. But I am excited to see what Newton has planed for this app and I plan to keep an open mind.

Crashes!. Calendar app crashes when hitting plus/add calendar event button. Thinking I’ll just use the standard IOS calendar. Disappointed

Fail. I had high hopes for this calendar since I'm very happy with the email app. Let's start with the app icon. It's terrible and doesn't look anything like what a calendar icon I feel should look like. For sure it looks ridiculous on my home screen. The calendar itself is hard to work with. To add an event requires multiple steps and the location feature isn't intuitive. It appears to be only Google based and locations thousands of miles away will show up instead or narrowing the list to somewhere close to where I am. With so many calendar apps available, this one doesn't bring anything new to the table. If I'm willing to choose the stock Apple calendar over this one, it must be pretty plain and unimpressive.

No week view and not enough calendar support.. I don't understand the purpose of this calendar app. I don't have access to my apple icloud calendars, which already makes it not usable for me. Also I don't see a week or day view (only month overview and list of tasks). What is the advantage of this calendar app over the default system calendar app? I don't see any. Why would I pay for something with less features/views/calendar support. Seeing that the developer is spending their resources on this useless app instead of concentrating on newton mail which still has critical shortcomings (like the basically useless search function or no fast/easy way to access archive or subfolders) is beyond me and will lead to me cancelling my account.

Great. Works perfectly for me. Great alternative to Apple's calendar or the sometimes messy Google calendar. Love that it syncs my Exchange account with my Google account. Love Newton mail, and this goes really well with it.

Needs a lot more polish. Cool to see Newton coming out with a calendar. Will be very exciting if we can sync with Meetup in the future. Unfortunately in it’s current state, it crashes too much to be useful. UI is pretty though.

Needs Support for iCloud and Work Day Start. Great app - intuitive and easy to use. This definitely needs iCloud sync support, I run a company and my personal life is almost as busy as my business life with other various projects that bring in income. In the settings the earliest “work start day” can only be set at 8:00AM as the earliest... my days normally start at 5:00AM... I’m not sure how this affects how the app behaves elsewhere yet.

Make Newton Mail great first please.. This calendar doesn’t stay synced so you’ll miss meetings if you don’t check your other calendar apps (using Google Calendar). I really wish they would add simple functions like text formatting to Newton Mail before flitting off to tackle calendars. I paid the premium price believing development would continue, but alas, no updates yet. If this app doesn’t work how want out of the box don’t hold your breath for improvements.

Great App. Love the design and features, but not having support for iCloud Calendar is a deal breaker for me. Is there support for it coming in the future?

Missing key features. I know that desired features are subjective, but many key features are missing from this app. To me this is unacceptable when the app exists behind a subscription pay wall. The app has only one view, and it’s a schedule view. This view makes it really tough to see when you’re double booked or how much free time you have between events. The calendar indicators aren’t prominent enough. I’m talking about the colored dots that indicate to which calendar an event belongs. It’s hard to see, at a glance, when an event belongs to me or another team calendar that I monitor. The “notes” section truncated Google calendar invites that contain Meet or Hangout video conference details. The stock iOS calendar app includes them. The net effect is that I can’t join Google video conferences from this app. This is a significant hinderance. Finally, there’s no visual indicator to show where you are in your day chronologically. Just now I launched the app at 9:51 and it started in the morning of the current day. That’s annoying. All of these result in a huge miss for me and add to the growing list of Newton releases that add no value, in my opinion.

Pretty but. After some early crash issues that have been fixed, finally got in to play with the app. It’s very pretty, but I’ve been using Fantastical for the last few year and Newton calendar doesn’t have the feature to get me to move.

App doesn’t work.. App won’t even load! It used to be fine. Then the home screen widget stopped working. I emailed support, 2 months ago, and they said they are aware of it, and are working on a fix. Now the app won’t even start! It just says warming up, please wait... The companion mail app. Newton, constantly crashes when typing emails. So it’s useless too! It was the only app that would let me connect to our corporate mail server, so I paid the $70 for a year subscription. It all worked for a while, and now.... Terrible support. Waste of money! iPhone XS. 13.2.3.

Never warmed up. Downloaded the app on iPhone XS, started it, then It just stuck on the warm up page forever....

Trying too hard, needs to focus on the basics. Two things drive me insane about this app: 1. The calendar is never up to date ( I assume because the background sync doesn’t work). 2. Creating calendar appointments using a single line that tries to interpret what you me an is an error prone painful useless innovation. All I want is a calendar that stays up to date and let’s me accurately and easily book appointments. This isn’t that. *You should try their email app Newton though - it’s excellent.

No iCloud mail support?. Love the Newton Mail app and was really excited to see this new companion app but there’s no iCloud mail support so this needs to happen ASAP.

A great start.... I like how it clearly presents the day starting with all-day events and then groups events by morning, afternoon, etc. A simple app, it picks up where Newton Mail left off: automatically signing in to my existing accounts and letting me create calendar events as easily as I compose emails. There are quite a few subtle things to learn: the "Today" button is a down arrow reminiscent of Google's Material Design as it hovers in the lower right corner; the text box to add events is smart enough to understand event time and duration but not repeating (as in the word "weekdays") but there are icons below the new event text box to add event details. There isn't much integration between Newton Mail and Calendar beyond account sync, and as everyone else pointed out, iCloud and local calendars are missing. But it's a good start, looking forward to future refinements!

Too basic. Depend on the weekly view iCal provides. Dislike the fact that there is not version for my MacBook.

Can’t do it without iCloud support. iCloud calendar support is a requirement for me and the way I’m set up. I just can’t use this app without it. It’s unfortunate as it does the best job of visually distinguishing days and events while hiding complexity. iCloud is where I keep my home life organized while we use a different service at my work. I need to see everything.

Widget needed !. Great app but I would love a widget similar to apple’s calendar app

Got excellent support...not crashing anymore. Has some crashing issues but the support team helped me resolve it. Really love the app and will now seriously consider subscribing.

Runs smoothly after update to iOS 11.2. Simple interface, nice aesthetic.

App stubbornly refuses to update calendars. Hit the refresh button, force exit app, no changes appear after many hours.

Too basic, buggy. No support for iCloud calendars, can't set preferences, settings sections don't show anything.

What’s the point?. An iOS calendar app that doesn’t support native iCloud calendars?

I don’t understand. This app is made by newton! Why cant i send an email to my calendar?

Want to like it, but.... Can’t get past the login screen. I love the Newton mail app so I had high hopes for this. Will update this review if I’m able to get in.

Lots of potential. Needs a lot of work. Right off the bat, there are some major bugs that need addressing. You can’t navigate back to the calendar after viewing an event. You have to quit the app to see the calendar. There is also no widget for the calendar. Newton Calendar has a nice design, however, it feels like an Android app on an iPhone. It lacks features and refinement to be my primary calendar app. There’s a lot of potential here, as it’s a companion to Newton Mail. I hope the Newton team capitalizes on its potential and makes it as good as counterpart.

iCloud. Great so far, but need iCloud support!

Good app, needs iCloud support. The absence of iCloud support is a deal breaker in an otherwise promising app

Any chance for update?. I’m not sure if I should uninstall this app

Crashes. Crashes every time I open, before I can even use it. And yes, I do have the most recent version of iOS.

Loved it until the calendars stopped syncing. I see an endless loop of warming up

Really?. A message came up similar to “Snap, your service isn’t available”. You joked yourself out of a customer. Wow!

App crashes for me too. Causes the phone to restart. Very happy with Newton Mail, but disappointed this junk was released.

Newton is a ponzi scheme. Broken app, developers MIA
