App good, bikes glitchy.. Great service in terms of availability and spread, but the keypads on the bikes are slow and regularly glitch. They either don’t register a press, register it twice, or when attempting to connect, just fail.

App lacks features. I would like to be able to see recent rides and charges

Please improve this insanely expensive and difficult bike rental. Compare to OFO I used in Washington DC this is extremely expensive and difficult to use. Bikes in DC cost $1/hr. While these here in Portland cost $6/hr. Plus you have to pre-charge the account before you can even rent the bike. This is pretty stupid. Brings me back in time. Not very user friendly.

Great program, crappy billing. I went to add funds, and initially I got no error but was sent back to the map screen. I tried to do it again and it said I can’t add money because I have an unpaid bill. It made me login again on your mobile web page, and it appears the “unpaid” charge was the order I just tried to execute to add funds. I tried to pay that “bill,” and the only option to do so is to use the current card on file, which is outdated. It’s a mess and preventing to be able to use the service. I have enjoyed the service when I have been able to use it. Update: contacted support, received a notification that they replied, can’t find the message anywhere 🤦‍♂️

Great idea, truly awful app. I love the idea of bike sharing, and was excited to sign up and try it out. The sign up and registration was pretty clunky, with lots of long loading screens and unresponsive UI, but oh well, you only have to sign up once, right? Maybe using the actual app would be better. (Narrator: "It was not better.") I spent twenty minutes trying to unlock a bike -- I tried doing it on the bike itself, I tried reserving a bike on the app first, I tried everything I could think of, and in the end I just took the bus. Unfortunately, I foolishly preloaded some bike time on my account, so between that and the setup fee, I'm out $25. Pretty frustrating experience. I would not recommend this app to anybody.

Worked great!. It was our first time in Portland and we love taking our bikes out to ride along the river. I'll definitely be using it again.

Does not work. They are stilling from us.. I needed a quick ride and spent the $5 to start an account. It did not work. My friend and I both tried. I was in a hurry and only tried for about 2 minutes. There was a bird scooter. That worked great. Definitely don’t use the bike go for the scooter.

Hidden Fees. Our family (4) all went and rented bikes to ride along the river. We each signed up and paid a $5 additional set up fee. We then rode south down the river on Portlands beautiful bike path. We stopped for lunch in Sellwood and put our bikes on Hold. Hold only lasts 30mins but we didn’t know that we were out of the bikes “city Limits” which is a 10$ additional fee. We then had to unlock our bikes again and go back up north to our original hub station. Total cost for 2 hours of bike riding (an hour each way is suppose to be only $4.80) = $24.6

Ruined the Experience. Absolutely ruined the app. I used to use BIKETOWN very regularly and will now stop since the changes you have made. You all got greedy and now have to pay much more than you did previously. I originally had the monthly plan, but you’ve now stopped that and are only allowing annually or by ride. Previously you used to be able to pay a monthly fee and then have a certain amount of free time each day without being charged. But now either way you have to pay to unlock a bike and for every minute you use the bike. I’m very disappointed.

App needs work. Account management is difficult - I had to make another account despite having an account with the parent company Social Bicycles in other regions. There are some small UI things that need fixing as well - the login/signup bar is partly obscured by the top bar and the map should center on the users location after they log in. I love bikesharing but this app could use some improvement.

Figure your network out. I have the Jump bike app, which obviously runs off the same system, so the BIKETOWN app first wouldn’t let me use my primary email to sign up, nor would it let me use that account on the bike. I then set up another account with the same information yet a different email. I used this and rode the bike to a location. When I tried to ride the bike again it said I didn’t have an account with BIKETOWN.

Worst bike app ever designed. Terrible instructions, bikes didn’t unlock, and after I signed in it tells me no bikes or hubs in the area. Straight garbage. I’ve rented in multiple cities before, and it’s never been that horrible!

BIKETOWN PDX. We just got off these bikes and had so much fun! Easy to get on and off!

Wish I had reviewed before the e-bikes 😭. Listen, I used to adore the bikeshare bikes! Yes it had its frustrations - the keypad, ghost bikes - but I figured out how to make it work. What a dream to cruise around Portland streets on those bikes. It kept me sane in the winter. The price point was reasonable. I like riding bikes for the physical exertion. I want it to be exercise. E-bikes totally eliminate the joy of riding a bicycle. I can’t choose which gear, and I do no work. I just mindlessly rotate the wheels like a hampster. Okay, fine, going up a hill on it is fun. But it would be great if a rider had some manual control over speed and exertion. I guess e-bikes are for lazy people and I’m a Luddite. The new app has no legend to tell users what is what on the system map. It’s like they want it to fail. What a shame.

Difficult and time consuming check out. Very difficult to check these bikes out. There’s too many steps and the pin number buttons are practically ineffective. Took us about 20 mins just to get the bikes checked out.

Heavy bikes, annoying unlock process. Keypads on bikes are very difficult to use (require very firm presses, can’t enter numbers too quickly), especially compared with scan&ride scooters. Going up hills with these heavy bikes is also a doozy. Overall, pricing is reasonable but the app needs some serious TLC. I would like to at least use Apple Wallet to enter my account number and unlock a bike.

Does what it’s supposed to.... But the bikes are really heavy! Is there no way to add some electrical motors to bikes or reduce weight? O well, got us from point A to B. Probably won’t ride them again though, plenty of electric scooters around town, sorry BIKETOWN.

Amazing concept, but... The app takes a few minutes to load when I restart it. It would be more convenient if it worked closer to 100% of the time, rather than about half.. Also the bikes can be REALLY frustrating. It would have been much quicker for me to walk the mile rather than to try my account # in 3 different bikes, and then finally enter my pin into a keyboard which works. Many of the bikes have a couple keys that don’t work, however occasionally when they do it’ll double click the number:/ I’ll still recommend a Nike Bike to a friend, except other cities have it with less of a struggle.. patiently waiting for improvements 😊🚲

Utter failure. A complete and utter failure; a scam. Bike won’t recognize my existence or respond to any input. App is unable to offer help. Charges levied without services rendered. A willing and enthusiastic participant in bike shares betrayed by incompetence at every level, from street to software.

Sunny days in PDX. Such a great simple experience. The app makes it simple for last minute adventures. I really needed a simple adventure out. Spent $5 to cruise a beautiful 6 miles down the waterfront. Simple pleasant and enjoyed

App worked well. App worked well, number pad on many bikes are worn and not easy to operate.

There’s a glitch when looking at train and bus.. It won’t stay on the train and bus part of the app. It shows it for approximately 5 seconds and goes back to Nike bikes.

Doesn’t work. I’ve had a problem for weeks now where I receive an error message saying “please try again later” whether trying to scan the bike QR or reserve online. I’ve tried contacting customer service about this, but every time I do I get forwarded to a new person who clearly hasn’t read my email and just states that I should already do what I’ve been doing. At this point I’m just exhausted with trying the non-functioning app and typing out the issue explanation for your “help” group to not read, really terrible customer service and overall experience.

Doesn’t work. This app consistently fails to find stations and bikes. Won’t connect on WiFi or cellular. Needs to be deleted and reinstalled before each use. Do not rely on this for a commute.

Misleading but fun. Charged even though it says the month of May is free with unlimited stops! Will be calling customer service. Bikes worked great though! Fun way to see Portland!

Not fun!!!. Bikes aren’t safe and kept changing gears randomly! They charged us multiple times for some reason when I asked Nike they said they couldn’t do anything about it....wouldn’t ride them ever again!

BIKETOWN app, slow to load and find bikes. BIKETOWN system is great but the app was slow to load and find bikes

Works well but could use some improvement. I'm writing this hoping the app designers read it. The fact that you can't see the system map when you're actively riding or have a bike checked out seems very ineffective. I was riding a bike and went to the app to see where closest hub was but it only showed where I was on the map. No hubs or stations or any other details it usually shows. I had to basically roam around to find one in the area I was in. Please fix!

Bad deal. High cost to activate, poor range of travel, lots of hidden fees. Great way to lose money. Terrible bikes too. I’ve been hit by a car before, and I really didn’t like it, but I’d rather get hit again than use this service.

Bad maintenance and hard to check out.. We had a heck of s time renting bikes and when we finally did the bikes were sticky, skipped gears, and we could not adjust the seat as it was stuck.

Rental. Think there needs to be an update so you’re able to rent more then one bike. If I’m paying for the rental, why not be allowed to rent what I need/want? Had family visiting (they do not have BIKETOWN) and I wasn’t able to rent more than one bicycle! Super lame!!!

Most poorly designed App ever. I made the mistake of renting a bike. My friend and I each have PhD’s - mine in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Biketown’s App is not at all intuitive. Their website offers no help. Customer support is non-existent. Stay away!!!!

great service. App works very well. Would love to see HealthKit integration.

Avoid if you’re an infrequent user. The interface is slow and clunky - very old school too. Nothing close to “scan and ride”. You have to enter your account # and then your pin and who’s gonna remember that with 97 other apps we use?! Then I find out my bike I picked up was on the very edge of the system map (because of course I know what the system map looks like in my head as a first time user). I rode along the bike path for exactly 1.36 miles - yes the very well used bike path along the river - which is not in the system map. $10 out of zone fee. Thanks for the bad experience - I’ll not be using this again anytime soon.

Can’t confirm I’m over 18. Just downloaded the app, trying to register but when I get to the “confirm you’re over 18” section it won’t allow me to select the “confirm” option so I can’t complete registration.

Motor inconsistent. I used a BIKETOWN e-bike in Portland. The motor assist quit suddenly twice while climbing hills. And then it flipped on strong unexpectedly on a mild ascent. I did not feel safe based on these incidents. And when I tried to report it on the app, the only five options for naming the problem did not include motor malfunction. Very disappointed, especially because it’s an expensive rental at 30 cents a minute.

Slow App, Bikes Don’t Work, won’t let me unsubscribe. I tried to rent a bike with this app, but after I painfully set it up it wouldn’t let me unlock a bike. Now as I am trying to unsubscribe the app seems determined to keep my money. 0/10 awful app, just want my money back

Good, Room to Improve. Great overall, but lots of bike maintenance issues. I always report any issues in hopes that the bikes actually get fixed.

What a blast!. Super fun! I haven't ridden a bike for years, but for 2 bucks I was compelled to hop on. I logged a 2.36 mile bike ride in 30 minutes. Felt great! Cons: Because of the newness, be prepared to answer lots of questions by people on the street (and to be polite, you can't say "sorry, I'm paying for this bike by the minute, can't talk!" Also you can't rent 2 bikes at once on one person's app. My husband's minutes were ticking away as I had to pull out my own phone to download the app, set up my own account, enter credit card, etc. That was a drag!

Bikes never work. The bikes constantly have issues, always saying out of service, cellular connection is super slow. Half the time I lose time reserving a bike only to find out it is out of service.

Great for out of towners!. Used as my principal mode of transportation while visiting Portland. Great way to see this awesome city.

icodyp. This app saved me from homelessness. I was able to get approved for the biketown for ALL program and I used the bike for door dash and made enough money to rent a car and take door dash to the next level and eventually I got into a room for rent after a couple of weeks. Seriously you guys at Lyft ARE THE GOOD GUYS. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I AM FOREVER GRATEFUL. Once I get my own car I’ll definitely be driving for Lyft again. #teamlyft💪🏼

Good app HEAVY bikes. These are 60 lb bikes, PDX is hilly. If you’re traveling any more than a mile, or going over a bridge expect a serious workout when you’re headed up hill. My prior experience with bike rentals was with pedal assist bikes that were about the same cost and built much better for hilly areas.

Easily hackable. Someone hacked my account and was able to use it multiple times without me getting alerted, when i tried to use it for the first time it required email confirmation though?

Tips for Non-Locals. Tips from an Austinite 1. The buttons on the keypad are REALLY hard to press, but they work. 2. The U-lock is kinda heavy, make sure to tilt the bike enough when you re-rack it. 3. THE BIKE is heavy (I’m 5’1 105lbs., so yeah,) 4. Once you start cruising, its pretty awesome. Beware of uphills though! 5. The app isn’t great for GPS/Navigating. Overall, I’d say it’s worth your five bucks!

BIKETOWN experience. Rode across the Tilikum Bridge today and the bikes were all over the place. I was able to find bikes easily.

HORRIBLE Lyft take over of Biketowm. When Lyft took over BIKETOWN they robbed my acct of 100 dollars. I had all the screenshots called them repeatedly, sent all the screenshots, receipts etc. They continually gave me the run around, which never happened before Lyft took over, said they’d email me about it, never happened; said they’d call in 24hrs twice, never happened, twice; said it’d take 5-7 business days, well here we are 1.5 MONTHS later. I liked the old bikes because it was a bike like an actual bike that provided you exercise. These electric bikes defeat the purpose and I’m a yearly member and THEY TOOK AWAY THE FREE 1.5 hrs a day if you’re a yearly member. The pricing is horrendous and way overly priced. Lyft ruined biketown, I’m just going to get a regular bike now, don’t waste your money or time on these “bikes.” This isn’t going to last long anyway so don’t buy a membership either, they’ll definitely ghost with your money too when this expensive new bs flops.

Not worth it. So I brought my friends down to visit Portland and ride bikes and it took an hour until we finally gave up because, they froze ALL of our accounts upon making them and then when I called and wait 20 minutes on hold each time they hung up on me. Overall a horrible experience, awesome concept but not worth wasting your time for unfreezing your accounts when they shouldn’t be froze 🙄

Good, reliable, accessible. I’m very thankful Nike and Portland provide this awesome service!

Nike bikes. We had a couple bikes that had flat tires and when we returned and LOCKED the bike it continued to charge me overnight! They don’t have very much support staff in the evening so if anything happens it is not taken care of until the following day!

Makes getting around Portland easy for visitors. The bikes are a bit heavy, but sturdy and comfortable. There are ample sites available to pick up/drop off bikes, and the app makes it easy to find locations. The downside is that we encountered numerous bikes they were ‘down for repair’ that still showed as available at bike racks. Buttons on the keypads were often finicky and screens were sometimes unreadable due to debris on the screen. Overall a positive experience and I highly recommend it

Easy and reasonable. My wife and kids rented 4 bikes in Portland. The process was very easy. There weren’t any hidden fees. The price was as advertised.

Not user friendly. App is confusing. Pricing unclear. Needs work.

Hidden fines. Horrible service. You can be charged $25 for parking ‘incorrectly’. Rude customer service. Many bikes are in poor condition and hardly roadworthy. Vandalised bikes are common. Not worth your time.

Easy to use. I found this app really simple to use. I opened it up, set up an account, and was off and riding in about 3 minutes total.

Las Vegas. This Portland BikeTown experience was amazing! Should definitely bring this to more city's. Las Vegas please!!

Does not work. Does not work

Unsubscribed, ends right away. Paid 19 $ for half day ride.

Awful user experience. Make the user end more simple you're losing a lot of money

The worst. App does not work most of the time. Can not add more credit to account. Awful

BikeTown Bike Program. This is the best idea ever! I waited until the day the program launched to join and I wish I had become a founding member instead of procrastinating because it's well worth the annual membership. I use the bike at least once or twice a week leaving work at night. The only thing I wish the bikes had were rear view mirrors and more lit up at night. Drivers are still not used to courteous bikers sharing the road with them.

The worst. The worst experience I had with rental bikes. Complicated, broken bottoms, etc. never use this garbage again

Used to work, now broken. I get connected to bikes in repair, the system doesn’t recognize my phone or pin, and the app freezes frequently

broken bikes serve limited area. i was charged $22 to rent a broken bike for 10 minutes before returning it to the original location. the service area ignores major sections of close-in pdx and they charge aggressively for parking out of area. make sure to thoroughly test the brakes and memorize the service area.

Meh. A bit difficult to use app and bikes are not great. I’d rather rent a scooter.

Doesn’t work. Doesn’t work and won’t accept payment methods, so I can’t use a bike.

Not City Wide. I seen a bunch of these in Beaverton. Yet they are not showing on the app. Specifically at Millikan Max station stop.

This is a scam! Keeps charging 25$ fines. Nice idea, but everytime you pause your ride, it locks your bike and then charges you a 25$ fine for “leaving it in the wrong place”! Horrible UX!

Not so difficult after your first ride!. Where was this when I lived in PDX?! My wife and I used this during a recent visit back to the Rose City. The app does seem confusing in the first 10 min but after you use it once, it is super easy. Once you memorize your acct# and pin, you don't even really need the app. The best part of the app is the map which allows you to find the nearest bike rack and know how many bikes are there. Agreed, I thought it sucked at first, but after two rides I was a pro...bro.

So Convenient. So great for campus employees when we don't have time to wait for the shuttles or taxis. They are all over campus which makes them so easy and quick to find!

Ride bikes! Have fun!. BIKETOWN has never let me down. It's a great companion to TriMet and car2go for people in Portland. Cheap, fast and fun!

Mostly garbage. Out of all the US cities I’ve been to with bike rental apps, this Nike biketown in Portland Oregon is by far the worst. Having the key and your account number and pin code every time is super annoying, I rode two bikes that did not work well, and the computer code on the back of the bike is always super slow and often gives me error messages where I have to start all over. I was kind of shocked to see that Portland didn’t have any other options for getting around. I thought there’d be a few different mobile bike options and to find that this was the only one was disappointing. If there were other ones I’d recommend going with them first, but is this is the only one I was able to find I guess you’re kind of stuck with it.

Great App. Excellent app to find, reserve & utilize a bike. The only issue is found is it shows and let's you reserve a bike that's in repair. Most of the time i look for a near by bike and after walking all the way to it, it shows "Bike in repair". I wish the app does not show the bikes that are in repair. That is why i gave 4 star.

Garbage. Tried really hard to rent a bike but couldn't .. We were able to get a bike from one location but couldn't get another bike from the next location. The app showed available bikes, but the bike wouldn't unlock. We REALLY wanted to participate in an awesome sociological experiment, but I think it's clear where we fell in the continuum.

Station map. Out of towner who downloaded the app to bike around Portland. I can’t see where the stations are mid ride so I can dock for free

confusing. I am familiar with the concept of a bike share program being a avid user from my former home of Chicago. This program and this app is confusing. There is a variety of icons on the app but there is no legend what they mean. And the method to view bikes vs. docks at a station requires opening a menu (just display both numbers). And it's ability to determine where you are via GPS is too vague esp among downtown buildings (how does Google Maps not have this issue?) And the concept that someone can return a bike to a public bike rack "additional fee" but it's not disclosed what that fee is) feels more confusing, esp if it's not clear that one should even try to rent a bike if it's not at a system dock. It's not clear what "Socail Bicycles" since one needs a SoBi account.

Could not get any bike to start. I tried 8 different bikes, 3 of which accepted my account number, but then none said I had a valid subscription. I tried every button on the app to figure out a solution to the issue but simply didn’t work. After 30 minutes of trying, I gave up. Wish they would adopt the same system as Bird and LimeBike. Scan the code from your phone and your off in 10 seconds or less. Very disappointed because I really wanted to use them. Instead we rented bikes from a local shop.

Terrible. Very confusing, unclear, unsafe, took more money than promised

Coolest town ever. Truly made it Nike town with this move! Love it. Best way to take in portland!!!

Works quite well.. There are some phantom bikes and you can't really use the map to find businesses, but overall it's a great bike rental experience.

Comfortable bikes and affordable rates!. My girlfriend and I were able to download the app, create accounts, and rent bikes very quickly. Fun time!

Doesn't work properly. Charged me extra, gave my bike away. Left me stranded.. Doesn't work properly. Charged me extra, gave my bike away. Left me stranded.

Still a Work in Progress. I am sure this app will be good, eventually, but it isn't good now: 1. The app is set up for nee subscribers. It takes a bit to fund out where you can log in if you already have a SoBi account. 2. If you don't have a subscription, the map of bike stations disappears when you log in. How do you know if you want to buy a pass if you don't know if there are bikes nearby? 3. You can't buy a subscription on the app, you have to buy it online. 4. The purchase system online requires some weird certification so my credit card didn't work without a photo of it. Concluaion: it is not very easy for one time uses.

Bikes not appearing. Ap is not showing me the bikes on the map

Broken, immature, misleading and unforgiving. Tried to do the right thing here. Could have Lyfted to where we wanted to go. Visiting Portland, bike friendly city, had a reservation in the northwest of the city and a beautiful day - coupled with a simple bike rental system - made the choice easy. Someone left a one star review about hidden fees but didn't leave any details, so I gave BIKETOWN the benefit of the doubt. Wrong choice. A Day Pass is not a day pass. It is a 180 minute pass. You get to keep a bike unlocked for a total of 180 minutes. Doesn't matter if you are riding, just that the bike is unlocked. You can Hold the bike for 30 minutes, but that is it. Overall that deception of offering a Day Pass That Is Not A Day Pass is not THAT bad. Forgivable. However, what if you think the Day Pass is in fact a Day Pass and you roam outside the center of the city, the borders that BIKETOWN clam as home base? If you lock up to prevent a theft of the bike and pop in to a nice little cafe or other way station, boom, $20 per bike. And you don't know it until after you secure the lock in the bike, good citizen. So you cannot roam outside the safe zone. If you do, you get a $20 hit each time you lock the bike. If you leave it unlocked it counts against your 180 minute "Day Pass" limit. So you are completely out of luck. Our customer service man answered quickly and politely but could not or would not remote the 180 minute limit, or completely erase the 20 dollar per bike charge. So we just left the bikes there outside the range, swallowed the excess fees and immediately wrote this review. By the way, about the bikes. They require a good attitude and patience. They are heavy. The axle drivetrain and internal hub slips, and mine sounded like input a Bicycle playing card in the spokes. The keypad on the bike barely worked and the screen looked like it was installed in '83. But on the bright side they have a nice large basket out front and are orange. You won't have to wear your I'm a Tourist Idiot hemp-and-bamboo bespoke t-shirt. Orange is my favorite color btw. Didn't help me here.

Good. It’s good

BikeTown is Amazing!. Like the app, but LOVE this new transportation system in Portland!

Bike won’t take my pin #. Works like trash. See above

convenient. I particularly appreciate the map that tells you where all the stations are and how many bikes are there and how many spaces are free. Could add better description of which streets have bike lanes and where the public racks are.

Terrible. This app is so ridiculous, wasted so much time trying to figure this system out, the fact that you need one account for every bike you wanna use is ridiculous. We spent way too much time on the phone with customer service trying to figure out how this garbage worked, and during that our bike we paid for expired, would not do again

Well done!. Well done!

Trick charges. You got to watch them. They have trick charges that will more than double the rental. I give them an F for honesty and an A for deception.
