Firmshell's MSG Viewer Pro is a Mac Necessity for Outlook Files. While it doesn't offer drag and drop, it still works amazingly. For improvement, Ms. Liu, maybe offer a life and dark mode, and a way to see the files on the actual app. Way to go, loving it! Works great on Ventura OS (again, no drag-n-drop, but I am okay with it).

Finally - an app that works. The title says it all. Works like a charm. Can even open multiple files at once under separate tabs. Attachments are handled as well. $5 is a more than reasonable price too!!! Kudos to Quiana Liu and FirmShell.

Doesn’t work on many files, inconsistent decoding, fake reviews. I bought this app because I needed to open my Microsoft Outlook .msg files. A few files could be opened (though they are missing parts compared to the originals), and others were complete gibberish! Buyer beware — I found many of the below reviews copied and pasted from OTHER products reviews.

Great. I wanted to open some msg files without using Outlook. I saw this application. $4.99, not much. If somebody thinks so, they are out of touch. :). Worked great. Did the job. I saw the “negative review”. Please. Got to deal with that. So, very happy with this. :)

Works perfectly. If you’re a Mac user, you know that there are always a few apps that you have to install on any new Mac. For me, this is one of those apps. Does exactly what it says.

Crashes Frequently. This app crashes frequently when opening .eml files on my Mac Studio M2 Max and on my MacBook Pro i9.

Don’t you dare. It doesn’t work, downlooaded this and its not even opening guys. Save your self the stress>>

Lost Without It. I could not get by without MVP. I work on a Mac using the Spark email client while our clients use Exchange and insist on attaching emails. MVP works seamlessly and flawlessly to reveal the otherwise unreadable contents of the attached messages. Excellent tool in my box, keep it up!

Application does what it says. This application enables me to view .msg files, ostensibly as forwarded by Outlook users. Surprisingly, it does not render .png inclusions inline where they are supposed to be - they appear along the bottom of the window. That capability, alone, would allow me to give this application 5 stars. I will make a suggestion to the developer.

Amazing. This application just flat-out works. I'm amazed. It handles attachments, etc, just like a native email client. I can save-as and print and reply. All envelope information is retained, including To, Cc, etc. It's worth 10x the $5 pricetag. If you need it, get it. This is the one.

The best. This is the best app to view and edit Microsoft Outlook without MS, it's working very fast and easy to use, I would share it to my friends.

Nice message viewer. Very simple and easy to use app that allows you to view outlook message files. Just open any file and import it to any of other most popular formats such as pdf, txt, html or more. Very useful app. Recommend it.

Great App. We previously stored 10s of thousands of individual .msg files in our document management system. Once we switched to Macs, they became inaccessable. We have tried several solutions, and this by far is the best. Have not run into the problems that other reviewers have. Just clean, faithful reproduction of the original email. As an aside, I would discourage others from storing individual .msg files because of their proprietary nature. Fortunately this app saved us from ourselves.

Just What I Needed. A lot of my co-workers use Windows based PCs and when sharing emails through out systems, I end up with a ton of .msg files that I can't open, and it drives me crazy because I have to ask them to change it to a PDF, resend it to me, blah, blah, blah. Now I can skip that and get straight to the point. Best business cost I've incurred in a long time.

Works only for simplest files. Sure, it opens the body of the message, but all attachments are completely mangled, can’t even work out the original attachment names. Had a few .msg messages with .eml messages attached inside, every single one of them was corrupt.

Works great - with templates too!. My employer only distibutes and supports Windows-based computers but allows employees to BYO computers and devices, so long as the Microsoft MDM/Company Portal software is installed. As a avid Mac user, I've struggled when provided with customer-facing email templates from Marketing in the windows .oft format. Using Msg View Pro, I can now open those .oft files (Outlook for Windows email template files), save them to .eml format (Outlook for Mac message file), then open that message in Outlook for Mac and "Save As Template" from the file menu. And it works perfectly without any formatting disruption to the original template, including any embedded HTML graphic links. Maybe one day the developer of this app will include a direct export from .oft (Outlook for Windows email template) to .emltpl (Outlook for Mac email template) but I'm satisfied with the present solution even with having to take the extra step and do that myself. It's a very minor inconvenience. I'm thrilled I no longer need to ask a Windows user colleague to open the template, address the email to me and send back, and then clean up the file and save as a Mac-friendly template. Saves me from the delay, all the clean up, and of course prevents me from having to inconvenience others. One would think Microsoft would have gotten past this incompatibility by now like they have with most other office files that open seamlessly across the two OS platforms.

Great, but crashes often. Great app when it works. It has a tendency to crash when running on M1 or M1 Pro/Max. It's a 5-star app with a bug that needs to be addressed.

Fast, rellable...great. It is really a powerful Msg viewer. It can help me to open Microsoft Outlook .msg files. and msg files quickly easily on my Mac. I have many msg files. it opened them perfectly. Beautiful interface. More importantly. it retain the layouts well. It is a good deal.I just purchased this app and so far very pleased with the results. Very simple and straight forward to use.

It works but it crashes pretty regularly. For the most part it's fine and does its job. But it crashes a lot.

Exactly what I needed. I have an MSG attachment in a Jira ticket from a Windows user. I need to view the screenshot that was included in the MSG attachment. I can't open it in Outlook or Mail, and head in Terminal simply outputs garbled data I can't make sense of. I run this app and presto! I can see the contents. The screenshot isn't inline with the email content, but couldn't care less—I need the content. The screenshot image file is included at the bottom of the converted email's window as an attachment. I double-click it, view the screenshot and now I can understand the user's problem. I fix the problem, update and close my Jira ticket. Only $5 and still in active development. Thank you!

Helped me. I needed to open an ¿archive? of outlook messages on a Mac. This worked easily. My rating would have been 5 star if either it had more powerful search commands or it let me use houdahspot or similar programs.

Works perfectly. How happy I am when every single time I reach for this app to review some wierd email and its attachments, it works perfectly. Great tool in my arsenol.

You have lots of choices. Just buy this one.. I work with Windows users and am often asked to look at .msg files. I am also occasionally asked to dissect .msg files to ascertain their origin. Not only does this viewer allow me to view the .msg files, but it also allows me to view headers and plaintext views (on Mac only)! Also, it works across all of my Apple devices (Mac, iPhone, iPad)! Also, unlike many of the other apps on the app store, this is app is clear with its (reasonable) one-time price upfront. No wacky in-app purchases or subscriptions to deal with. The following minor complaints keep me from rating this 5 stars: 1. Inline images don't always load correctly, and you may need to dig into the attachments to view the image. 2. Viewing message headers is not available on iOS.

Mangled formatting - message is not readable. Stay away. I had great hopes for this app. After installation, I opened a couple of messages and found that style information was mixed with the message text making it useless. If I wanted to see that, I could just open the .msg file in a text editor. I am not clear what value this app is providing. I recommend finding another solution.

Security. I selected this App after reading the good reviews and clicked on install. As with some apps, a dialog box appeared, which contained app usage statements that I must agree to. I read the entire list and the very last one stated that I must first agree to allow the App, "Msg Viewer Pro" to gather any material on my computer in any manner they saw fit, and that this data may be used to market or advertise other items to me. I found the unlimited data access “in any manner they saw fit” (my quote, as I don’t recall the exact phrase) to be unworthy of an App that Apple would present for purchase. I declined. The App was still installed and I had to delete it.

great way to view saved emails on Mac OS. very simple to use. no hassle

Good app. After I used this app, I can not do without this app anymore. This is the most convenient way to browse Microsoft Outlook. In particular, view email attachments, just press the space bar. Very convenient.

All you need. Read the reviews before I purchased and was a little bit skeptical after reading the post from element26. Not sure what element26 is doing, as this software is easy to use and I did not experience the issues he/she is talking about. Works perfectly for me.

FINALLY. I have struggled with giant walls of gibberish and upside down red question marks trying to look at .msg files saved by people with Outlook. Talk about frustrating. This app opened the darned things up like a champ. Five bucks? Done.

Recovers my messages. This app literally saved me tons of time recovering old messages. I found some .msg files from my old computer and I did not know what app to open those files to recover messages. Until one of my friends showed me this app. I tried it and it indeed read all the msg files and recovered all the messages. That feels like recovering old memories. Amazing app.

Does what it's supposed to do. I bought this product for viewing attached .msg files on MAC computer. It works great for my purpose.

Does exactly what it says it will do. As a mac user in a company that runs primarily windows, after searching for .msg viewers, trying a few online converters, downloading a few of the “dat viewers” here in the store that didn’t show me any msg content, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on this paid app (knowing it's possible to request a refund from Apple if it didn’t work effectively). Worked instantly showing exact content of msg files and all marketed features work for me. It will support my particular needs and am grateful there’s a reasonably priced option here to mitigate the steps of seeing the file content. Only recommendation I’d have for the developer is to replace the toolbar button icons with something more modern, reflective of Apple’s evolving aethetic. The present icons (in version 1.9.6) look like clipart and it lessens the perceived quality of the app itself.

Tested on a file and it worked. I'm happy it worked. I'll update this review if I have problems in the future.

Works very well for my needs. Simple app to do a simple job - and does it well. With my office's web-based ticketing system people often attach .msg files from people logging an issue - and up until now I’ve never been able to view them (as I am the exception in the office and use a Mac instead of Windows). Just wish I’d found this app earlier. Layout is easy and mirrors an email client with embedded attachments shown which can be previewed using inbuilt Mac tools. Quick-look on .msg files is also very useful.

Works well with Apple Mail. For current version 2.1.8, when my emails have been archived as .msg files, I can click the .msg file and it appears in a first viewing window in the Msg Viewer Pro app. In that viewing window, if I click the reply button, it then opens up a second viewing window, this time in Apple Mail which gives the options of REPLY, REPLY ALL or FORWARD. Upon creating a new email in Apple Mail, all relevant information is all there: subject title, email address of the intended recipient, file attachments, signatures etc. From what I can see, it works nicely. I can recommend the app for this purpose of replying to emails that were saved as .msg files. Another feature I appreciate is that the QuickLook feature of macOS works nicely. Press the SPACEBAR and a preview of the .msg file opens, with the option of opening the file with this app. Finally, the Developer of the App is very responsive to communications.

Works great!. Opens .msg files in a normal way! Great addition to office 365 on mac when trying to open PC based emails - just not sure why Microsoft didn't in-build this feature into outlook.

Poor - does not embed images into messages. Having paid for and downloaded this app, given there is no trial/test version, I immediately discovered that although it opens the msg file all images are not embedded in the message and instead are shown as attachments, rendering it of no value. Addiotnally there is no 'settings' that allow for this to be changed. My recommendation is do not buy it.

Does the job. Does what it says, but my Mac keeps thinking it 'closes unexpectedly' when it closes.

Cannot access attachments. Contrary to what is in the app’s description. This app is unable to display or open attachments in the MSG files. Will ask for refund.

On my El Captain, it does crashes all the times !!. After loading the app. Paying for it. It crashes all the times. I've restart the app. my computer, double-clic on a .msg file, and crashes. Again again. I've just send a note to the developper. Meanwhile... ??

Does not work - creates just empty file. This tool failed to open the .msg file I received. While it’s 2.8 mb big, this app claimes there is nothing in it. On Windows, the file opens perfectly!

Uses share sheet to open attachments. This works well. When I get an attachment in Outlook or mail with one of the supported formats, I just use the share sheet to send it to msg viewer and I’m good to go. Nice that the one purchase makes it available on macOS, iPadOS and iOS.

Msg View Pro only works with a subset of Outlook messages. Short version: Msg View Pro does not work for Outlook messages. This limitation is not described at the Msg View Pro website. Buyer beware. Long version: I purchased Msg View Pro.app to read message files produced by MS Outlook for the MacOS. When I used the app, I found that it would not read the files I had, which have the extension olk15Message. I went to the web site for this app and forwarded the message to their support team. They wrote back to say that my files were not the right format. I know that the message files were produced by Outlook. My guess is that the Msg View Pro.app accounts for only a subset of the olk message files. There is no information provided about this limitation at the Msg View Pro web site.
