Twilight Struggle Game Description & Overview

What is twilight struggle app? "Now the trumpet summons us again, not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need; not as a call to battle, though embattled we are – but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle..." – President John F. Kennedy

HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Twilight Struggle puts the player at the center of the Cold War, the political and economic struggle between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R that spanned 5 decades from the 1950's to the 1990's. Designed by award winning creators Ananda Gupta and Jason Matthews, players control one of the two modern superpowers, as they work to spread their dominance throughout the world via political influence and coup attempts. But if either side triggers nuclear war, it's game over!

CARD BASED EVENTS
The event cards in the game are based on actual historical events from the Cold War era. Through the playing of these events, players exert their superpower's influence as they attempt to gain allies and regional control of the globe. From the early days of De-Stalinization, to the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War and beyond, players are immersed in the actual events of the struggle between these two nations to be the dominant superpower in the world!

IMMERSIVE STRATEGY
Hone your skill and strategy as a world leader against an A.I. opponent, and then take your game global with matches against other players via asynchronous online game play.

Solo is very poor. Solo mode is a mess and multi player is full of rage quitters. Basically serves as an expensive tutorial for the board game. Not recommended.

Recent update broke game. As many others have said, the recent update has ruined game play. Please fix the app.

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!. When I first got this a week ago, I would have given this 4 or 5 stars. After my first game or 2, however, I have run into MANY bugs. -Southeast Asia scoring card appeared in early war and then came back around! This is game changing if you know how to play this game. - sometimes you can add extra influence with no card or reason behind it when placing influence. - I just lost a game after the AI player chose to make a coup attempt on a battleground country at a level 2 defcon (AI should have lost) - “free” coup attempts *sometimes* degrade defcon - once a scoring card popped up that was not actually in either player’s hand. These are just a few. I think I have had bugs come up in 60% of my games. Once, it said I had degraded the defcon and ended the game when I hadn’t played any cards that do that, nor had I made a coup attempt on a battleground. The actual board game is great, but I don’t think I will waste my time with this app. Sounds like they don’t fix bugs... Not worth putting the time into playing a game if you can randomly just lose through no fault of your own after 45 minutes. Buy the board game, find someone to play with! The board game is worth the money. The app isn’t.

Great implementation of a great board game. AI is useful for learning, but can soon be beaten. Lots of opportunities for on line play against real opponents. Very good interface, thematic music, like the bidding system, once I googled how it worked.

App crashing after update. The app keeps crashing after the last update. Can’t use it.

This was a fantastic game. With 1.4.0, I can no longer move the map around on my iPad Air 2. Very difficult to play the game any longer. Very difficult now to navigate

New bugs - don’t update. 1.4.4 update (May ‘22) is a bad one. Some of the long-standing bugs you’d think easy to fix have not been (Junta still doesn’t give you mil ops), and new ones introduced (I just lost on DEFCON 1 due to it not resolving Summit right). It also crows Success! on every space race attempt, even if it wasn’t successful. Odd, but not game breaking.

Tutorial. Tutorial crashes about 2 minutes into it repeatedly. Not cool if trying to learn the game... The game itself works thankfully

Recent update made the game worse. Allowing the map to move would change this rating to a 5 star

Great game, too slow. Can we make the computer much faster?

Not Random rolls. Played countless times to coup north korea on first play with 4 ops card and never succeeded.

New bugs. Great game but recently has started developing lots of bugs. I didn’t see these a year ago so not sure what happened but it is making the game nearly unplayable. Space race track is not always being progressed despite having successful die rolls. This is the biggest bug and really hinders the game. Game no longer allows you to take actions to advance the DEFCON track to Level 1, ending the game, when the AI opponent plays cards to allow you to do so (ex: USSR playing CIA with current DEFCON of 2). Multiple graphical issues are annoying but not imperative, such as numbers not being on the adding VP stars. AI in general is very subpar, proceeding with some terrible moves but yet always seeming to know your scoring card.

Excellent game, horrible update. The new update has ruined the app. Map no longer can be moved, fonts on cards are horrible, system glitches and lags. It’s great that they finally allow the app to run in the background now, but everything else about this update is awful.

WARNING: don't task out of the app. So I'm quite a ways into the tutorial, and I briefly task out, over to another app. I come back to TS, and it takes me out of the tutorial, back to the home screen. JEEZ...frustrating! :( Now I have to click my way back through everything I've already seen... UPDATE: 1.0.5 was just released, and this is still an issue. I develop iOS apps for a living...it's not that hard to maintain state when the user simply backgrounds and later foregrounds back into an app.

Absolutely brilliant!. The world's best modern strategy boardgame gets a fantastic iPad version! Gorgeous to look at, the complexity of the boardgame has been translated cleanly and clearly onto the iPad screen. That's quite an accomplishment, because there's a lot of game information that must be presented and kept track of. But the designers have done a great job of adapting the original game to the screen. And, the sound effects - snippets of historical speeches, martial music, etc. - add greatly to the theme. Love it!

Impossible to learn and hopelessly rigged against beginning players. I am having to delete this from my Ipad because I am about ready to break it with a hammer. I have played many board and strategy games and this one has a steep learning curve and suffers from one difficulty level so you'll find yourself losing over and over and over and over again and not learning anything which is the real frustration. No matter which side I play the other computer controlled side thrashes me. Can any starting player ever win this game against the AI? I have played at least 15 times now and no matter how well you play, the AI will do some last minute maneuver, gain much influence in some region ("dominate" a region because it only controls one "battleground" country in Asia like this could be Thailand in Asia and that somehow connotes domination which is not very intuitive or realistic) and then play a scoring card to get several points. The AI is clearly cheating in some fashion. A lower level AI might help one to learn some more about the game. As it stands now, after devoting 10 hours or so, I feel like I've just spun my wheels and gotten no where. By way of comparison, Victory Games "Cold War" was more enjoyable to play than this ever was. Maybe play against someone else? Or maybe have a tutorial or something that explains the game a little better.

Looks great .. tutorial keeps crashing. TS is a wonderful boardgame. I haven't played it in a couple years so I'm looking at the Tutorial. The Tutorial is really well done, but you have to do it in one sitting -- there's no way to save the Tutorial in progress -- I've started it 4 times and haven't made it thru yet, twice because it crashed midstream and so I had to start it all over again. Very tedious. I hope to complete the Tutorial some day.

Fix bugs with coup and realignment. Great game, but the rules implementation is buggy. There is inconsistency in the Interface allowing coup in areas where the insurgent army does not have influence. The official rules PDF states that one does not need to have influence in the territory to start a coup, and sometimes this is the case in the iOS version as well, but other times the interface prevents coups when you dont have influence in the country. It makes playing the game against AI difficult. More like just a learning tutorial for the real boardgame.

Great Game should be 5 Stars but.... This is an amazing game. It is a faithful reproduction of the board game with a good AI. I haven't had the crashing problem that others report but there is one frustrating bug. Periodically, the AI will go to DefCon1, start a nuclear war which is an automatic loss but instead it claims a Victory! The AI is tough to beat but I can win about half the time now with carefull play not counting the weird losses to the the DefCon bug. Other than this, highly recommended.

Great Game, good support. The classic board game, for iPad. Complete with cross platform support! Bugs fixed quickly and new turn 0 is promising. AI makes questionable plays sometimes, so get online asap. Plenty of people are willing to help a newer player and discuss strategy after the turn. You can play a quick 45 min game or a 45-day game! With the game selling for $50+ irl, the digital edition is well worth it

Enjoying. Find this a 1st rate app. Quick update to repair problems. (I had no crashes or AI suicides with point cards). As I have never played the game the tutorial was very helpful and there are also assistance on line including a free 425 page strategy guide. A game that takes actual thinking and not dependent on reflex speed. The first "5" I have given any game and that goes back to the 3GS.

Update has broken the game. Game was great before the update. Now, it runs super slow and is very glitchy. This is a shame, as I had been playing the game prior to this and really enjoyed it.

Good game, but lots of bugs. I play this game for a while, it is a strong strategy game base on cards. It deserves for my 1st place board game. However, the game showed up some bugs which is annoying. When I played my score card, it dominated region only gave me presents score. When I win the ai player, system give the price to the ai??

Fantastic adaption on the superb board game!. This app has digitized the original board game wonderfully! To the point that I think I’d prefer to play the digital version over the physical version . That’s saying something! The app works flawlessly and never crashes (which unfortunately happens all too often on many game apps). I HIGHLY recommend the game. You will not regret it! 10/10!

Multiplayer unplayable, ZERO support. Giving this a 1 star rating due to the extremely unstable multiplayer. I am unable to stay in a game for more than a few minutes without getting booted out with a message "Network connection lost." I then have to restart the game and rewatch the last turn. This is ridiculous as it's a turn based game anyway. I have never had connection issues with any other game. Developer offered zero support, did not respond to my email nor my message on their forums. My guess is they have simply ceased to maintain their server one year out.

Love it, now fix it! :-). As stated numerous times already, great game, great implementation (though AI could use a boost...), as soon as they fix the "loss by held scoring card" bug (which never happened in the OS X version). Contrary to many others, I have not experienced any crashes (iPad Pro). I love that you can now play an offline player vs player game, well done! Implement that on the Mac/Steam version too, please!

Latest update. Some of the usual cards are no longer showing up in the game. Very disappointing update.

Good implementation. Good adaptation of the board game. AI, however, is terrible. AI Russians couping Philippines on 1st Action Round of the game with the China Card?!? No one would do that. India-Pakistan War when opponent has no influence in either?!? No one would do that either, unless lack of military ops would lose the game.

Fantastic implementation of a complex board game. I love playing Twilight Struggle with my friend and now we can play it remotely. The pacing and workflow of all the cards is amazing. I can't wait to play more games. If you are a Twilight Struggle fan, or just love strategy games, I encourage you to buy this game and get your friends to buy it so you can play this historically rich and intellectually satisfying game.

Update Broken. The new update broke the ability to scroll the map, as well as the ability to zoom out after examining a region. Unplayable on my iPad now...

Now it's the app I wanted. Real quick review: Since they addressed the bugs the game plays great for me. I really enjoy how it looks, and even like playing the AI. If you have the physical board game, this is a good way to stay fresh and try out strategies you normally wouldn't attempt in person. If you don't have the board game yet, this is obviously an excellent way to familiarize yourself with it.

bug. it is too unstable, easy to return to desk

Solid base, but needs to work out the kinks. As others have mentioned, the app resets whenever you minimize it. Given that the game is somewhat demanding in terms of length, being able to suspend gameplay without losing your progress is absolutely needed. Also, the tutorial is great but would be even better if it were broken into chapters so you can revisit the section you're looking for.

fantastic. Playing on ipad air 2. No problems after one play. I think its well done adaptation of a top tier boardgame. Reviewers saying its "boring" or such didnt know what they were getting into and are probably better suited to monopoly rather than a historical highly strategic boardgame simulation. Dont purchase until you go to boardgamegeek first to get an idea of what you are buying here. There is a lot to this game. Well done.

Great game and interface...one major bug. I really like this game, the mechanics and the interface. They have done a great job with the design. However, there seems to be one significant bug. I have played the game seven times today and on three of those occasions the computer has lost the game by holding a scoring card at the end of around. This causes an automatic loss. I would think the game logic would require the computer to unload its scoring cards before the end of the round. Otherwise it is a great implementation of the game.

Soooofrustrating!. Hey playdek, fantastic implementation. However, AI has frequently triggered defcon 1 and won the game. This is of course, contrary to the rules. Even after investing much time and getting clear up to round 8 or 9. The AI also knows what score cards you're holding and will play hard for that region. I have even completed a game for final scoring and had the game tell me I've lost, even though I had more points! For now I'm done wasting time on this. Developers, please fix this game.

Great game, great app. A great port for a great game. The sound files and quotes really add to the flavor and feel. The AI is good enough that you will become a good player before you beat it regularly. Even once you are better than the AI it is good enough that it will provide you a good game and can even beat you with some poor card draws on your part. Add to the fact that you can play a game in a much shorter time than over the board and you have an app that will provide you hours of enjoyment and teach you this fascinating game.

Frustrating fun. I play on hardest setting as the U.S. so far over 200 games with a higher win over loss. AI always knows your score card. The random die roll for the player is weighted heavily to getting a one. And the AI wins coups on the certain countries consistently. But if you can keep the AI from winning by turn 6, it then makes the worse decisions consistently, like placing everything in Africa whenever it can and not using card events like quagmire. Its addicting play and tho I,d rather have a ftf game it,ll do for now.

Won’t play again until fixed. The last cosmetic update was a disaster - what was previously an outstanding app is now full of distracting graphical mistakes. I am not starting any new games until the developer undoes the damage done by the update.

Lazy Developer not very good at fixing bugs.. One star! This developer NEVER FIXED the game resetting itself in the background. That’s inexcusable to release the game that way. Then YEARS later, they STILL have not fixed that issue. I wanted to take notes during the Tutorial and this BUG prevents that. They don’t even have a setting for running in the background. A third bug in the Tutorial. Tapping DEFCON Status does nothing. A long touch and the text flashes by. That cuts it. Wasted my money! Deleted. It’s a shame that a good game is ruined by a poor developer. The last thing this developer fixed was IAP a YEAR AGO. But not the remaining bugs. I remember a time (30 years ago) when game developers were driven by the desire to put out a “quality” product and were embarrassed if a bug got out. Switch to today when customer’s, ridiculously, accept software bugs in paid for apps as normal. What fools! Oh, by the way, in those days we took the program (games, whatever) back to the store for a complete refund. That’s called “incentive”. Put out quality software or go out of business. Apple changed all that where today, you hardly can expect to get program quality. How sad that money exceeds our expectations and controls our lives.

Great game. Needs new update. This is a fantastic game. However, the latest update seems to have caused more problems than it fixed. The victory point animation doesn’t work correctly, displaying the wrong or no value. The new black text on red and blue background to show what cards have been played is low contrast and harder to read than the previous white text. Would be awesome if you could add a highest and lowest rating achieved to users profiles.

Reasonable implementation of a great board game. Playdek has done a good job implementing this game. There are a few polishing issues that hopefully they will take a look at someday which would improve the overall quality and fun. Overall if you like the board game, this app does not disappoint. The only outright bug I have encountered in 30 + plays is that in one game USSR was unable to remove influence for CMC, and when they tried it led to continuous "Bing" noises forcing an app restart. Despite Beta comments they have stuck with a clock mechanic that is poorly suited for this style of game. It should be a chess style clock with x total minutes + y sec per move. They just have x total min. This somewhat spoils lengthy games every now and then for both players and has led to all kinds of game length choices that could be simplified to 2 or 3 selections total. I just got used to it and play faster than my opponents anyways, but it is not a good design choice. There is a single player AI but it is really only good for learning. As an experienced player, the AI has not been a challenge to beat. They could also explain the bidding UI better.

Do not like the new music. I like what you've done with the game and I immediately purchased the expansion. But I now have to turn down the music as I simply cannot stand the new stuff. And that is a shame as I was continually amazed how the old music would never get tiring, provided background, and yet did not intrude upon my thinking. This new music I could not stand from the get-go. It's creepy and continually takes me out of my thinking. I looked but could find no way to revert to the original. Wish I could say "maybe the new stuff will grow on me" but it will not. It's just too severe. If I am only one then so be it but, if others also complain please consider putting old music back (or at least providing a toggle). Other than that, I like what you've done with the place. :-)

Great for playing online. Classic board game. They did a great job with all the rules and letting you undo things mid turn. Interface is good. Supports cross-play with Steam. Only problem is you have to reload the game if you switch away which can slow it down if you are multitasking.

UNPLAYABLE BC CARDS MOVE WAYYYYYYYYY TOO SLOWLY. PLEASE MAKE UPDATE TO FIX THIS! Also sometimes the continue button doesn’t work.

Map fixed, thank you. Yes a recent update broke the map movement, but the most recent update fixed it. Thank you devs. Tip for other players if this ever happens again: you can tap on the 3 region buttons on the lower left and right sides of your screen to zoom to those regions. I.e. “Eu,” “M,” and “As”

Complicated strategy. Never played before but since was relatively cheap to ry through the App Store as opposed to the real board game I took a flyer. The tutorial is well made. Certainly demonstrates the complexity of the game. Will need several trials to understand and remember but seems well made. I can see why if you enjoy strategic back and forth no clear winner to start why this a worthy challenge. Since no glitches thus far I'll give a 5 star. Right up there with pandemic, settlers and small world 2 on my pad.

Realignments and coups. Screwy odds to the point of ruining the game.

An amazing game. This is an excellent electronic adaptation of one of the best board games of all time.

Fun, but buggy. The sound doesn’t work…

Can’t move around the screen since the update.. Since the update, I can’t move around the screen so some parts of the map are cut off. It seems to have messed up the resolution as well.

Great Game limited by massive stability issues. Twilight struggle is a top ranked board game (per board game geek) and this implementation by Playdek appears to initially be well made. The trouble starts when trying to play the game as there are a number of game breaking issues such as it took 5 attempts to get through the tutorial due to the game getting stuck. It gets worse as trying to play a game results in crashing occurring at least once every turn. For this current version it is a 2/5, If the developers can update the stability and get rid of the crashes, this review will be updated.

Rubbish. App crashes when trying to play offline. Unable to play. Don't waste your money.

Sept 2020 removed swipe to move map. Hello. Just installed the Sept 2020 update. I am now unable to move map by swiping the screen. Could you please restore this feature? Thanks.

Best online. Twilight Struggle and Playdek are a great marriage: see the developer's work with board game ports such as Agricola. That this app exists could fairly be considered a big deal. Learning the game on iOS is feasible given the adequate AI, but the true action lies in challenging friendly but serious gamers via async online.

Gameplay good; AI not so much. The implementation of the standard game is excellent. However the AI needs improvement. It sometimes takes way too long to move. It also is not much of a challenge for an experienced player.

Great game, beautiful implementation, suffers glitches. I love the board game and have enjoyed it for years. It is a 5-star game. This implementation is suffering from a fatal glitch. When I try to play online, it will frequently freeze up while I try to log in, and the only way I can get past it is by deleting the game and downloading it again. Please fix this issue!! The game is very beautiful, and I love many of the design choices that went into this implementation and hope to play it glitch free soon.

Great games, okay app. They have done a very nice job of taking a great strategy game and putting on the iPad, however, there are problems with the AI and a few bugs. AI loses the game by not playing scoring cards by the end of the turn, simple error that should (almost) never happen. Very frustrating for a player to watch the game end on a rookie mistake. Cuban Missile Crisis bug crashes the app everytime - it also is not implemented correctly. The AI still is able to conduct Coups without triggering the card. I am sure there are few more, but since I have only played a dozen or so games against the AI, I have not covered all the possible cards, much less the combinations that might trigger a bug.

Extremely well-designed. This is a great game. The UI is intuitive and be true to the original. The only issue is that it seems like the achievements dint always unlock. I just won a game on turn 2 when the USSR gave me a DefCon victory, but the achievement didn't unlock.

So far, so great...and meh on the bugs. Truly a great iOS implementation. Graphics are great. As many have said, it's quite buggy in its infancy. Three plays to date with game locking up at Rounds 3, 5, and 12. Usually when AI plays "dual" cards in the same turn (card that triggers another). I'm sure this will get worked out. Glad I bought and looking forward to bug fixes.

Crashes and bugs. Tutorial crashes during second action round after placing influence in France and Lebanon. It forces you to restart tutorial every time. Tried to play against ai and it was very slow.

mini 4, iOS 10.x. Historically, Playdek has been far better at providing post-release support than in this case. I certainly hope that our faith in their ability to resolve the outstanding issues has not been misplaced because Twilight Struggle is a unique title that deserves the proper treatment. By the way, I am more than willing to wait for a polished, bug-free universal update that addresses its existing problems.

Crashes, crazy AI. Overall, the implementation is really nice. However: 1) The tutorial crashes in the same place every time. Can't finish it. 2) The AI is either dumb -- holding onto scoring cards -- or it is insanely difficult for newbies. Veteran TS players may enjoy it but if you are new to the game, it is an exercise in frustration. You will either win accidentally or you will get utterly trounced on the easiest setting (+10 influence).

Still needs work. I believe the boardgame version is one of the most innovative titles of the new millennium (so far). The app seems to have captured this quite well in graphics, sound, and overall presentation. Unfortunately, mechanically it's a mess. I've tried several games on my IPad 3 with retina (64 gig) and been unable to get past turn two. A few of the cards lock up the AI or push it into routines that can take hours to complete. For the IPad 3, at least, this game needs more debugging and AI improvement.

Found an error. Original game. First turn against computer. AR6. I have not used space race but I have played captured nazi scientists. The game will not all me to play my last card as a space race. This is pretty incompetent programming. I cannot recommend this game to serious players.

Beautiful. Running on an iPad Pro. The game doesn't multi task well, but that doesn't bother me too much. Runs very efficiently, much more so than my laptop. Fantastic.

Buggy but promising. Victory via held scoring card in Turn 7 (at least I was winning), but now unable to even launch Offline play- app crashes every time. Looking forward to playing after a couple rounds of bug fixes. Very cool experience to play an AI :)

Well done. Very well done although occasional crashes. Suggestion: make the turn options to provide maximum time per AR response instead of max time for the entire game. Please do this for the PC version too.

Works well, addictive, worth it. Thanks to Playdek for the updates. We appreciate it. No crashes on my Ipad 3.

Excellent, but it needs app switching PRONTO. The app works perfectly....great game. But it needs App Switching. Every time you switch out to another app, you have to reload the app, login again, and reload the game. Irritating as hell.

Good game by RNG needs work. I have played many games and if the AI gets behind it will start spamming realignments. I have seen it be successful of 4 realignments in a row that had a 8% chance of success. I kept average dice rolls on past two games. AI average is 5.1. My average is 2.3.

Oh Canada. Seems to me ai doesn’t play random. I’m a newbie but who pays attention to Canada ever unless your in a trump trade war which isn’t a card? USSR blows be red sparrow when I’m felt norad. Otherwise USSR ignores Canada. Four for the computer cheating. Ai made it three sorry.

Needs a major patch to fix a broken AI. Several fixes are required to make this a better experience. 1. The Lone Gunman action will cause Defcon 1 loss for US Player if Soviet AI uses it for a coup that decreases Defcon level to 1. 2. Soviet AI can coup any country in the world even with a lack of influence in an adjacent nation. 3. The Destalinization action if played by the US Player will result in a huge decrease in performance cause AI to be unable to perform the action before the iPad defaults to sleep mode. 4. Soviet AI can perform change alignment action in any country even with a Ack of influence in an adjacent nation. 5. AI seems to be able to see players scoring cards and aggressively places actions in that scoring zone.

Good, but bad. Overall, good port of game to app. Unfortunately, several issues: does not include complete set of rules. Pretty lame if you ask me. Which leads to next issue: if I switch to Safari or iBooks to check rules, the game starts all over again! What?!???!? Then there’s the issue with the tutorial: there’s no back button! So if you want to review a previous instruction, you have to start all over again. Finally, the AI is quite slow. Having said all that, this has the potential to be a great game. The big deal-breaker is the inability to put the app in the background without restarting the game. This absolutely must be fixed.

Woo Hoo!. Love this app! Plays great with smooth interface. AI is now fixed! AI no longer holds scoring cards. The online mode is fantastic! Happy day!!

Great game but bugs affecting experience. Nuclear subs, Red scare/purge do not take affect which MAJORLY affecting game play. And lots of crashes. I really like this board game so had high expectation for the iOS version of it. Hope things can be improved for the next update.

Brrrrrr! This war is cold!. Twilight struggle is one of the smartest most playable historical boardgames. I'm so glad it has finally come to iOS. It looks great and plays great.

Some bad programming. This is my first time trying the app, but the game is somewhat buggy. I had a crash during the tutorial and had to abandon the game. But the worst part is, the AI is SO SLOW. It takes it up to 2 minutes sometimes to decide on it's action. That's absurd. Unless you are doing somethign else while you play, the app is basically unpalyable for anyone who doesn't have infinite patienc.

This is why I game on an iPad. One of the best board games of all time? Yep. I can hold it in my hands while laying on the couch? Yep. I’d buy every port Asmodee makes if it’s at this level of quality.

Needs Different Difficultlies. Played as the US 5 times and could not get passed the 5th round, it seems like most of the cards are USSR cards, making the game impossible. Great idea just needs improvements to the gameplay, wasted money on this game. Plus it takes forever when playing the computer.

Love the game. Hate logging in for every turn. I really love this game. And this implementation is absolutely slick. But every time I switch to another app even for ten seconds, I have to go through the complete login sequence again to play my next turn. Seven screens of the developers' animated logos, login options, connect to server, reselect my active game, then reconnect. Every. Single. Turn . It's maddening.

Need bug fix release ASAP. This is a great implementation of the Twilight Struggle game but has a few initial release (ver 1.0.3) bugs that need to be addressed : 1) Frequent crashes at start-up, especially in offline mode. Only work-around is to do an uninstall and reinstall which fixes the problem until it occurs again. 2) AI was never really strong to begin with but to have the first game end of Turn 3 due to a held scoring card is bad. To have it happen in the first two games in a row, unforgiveable. Will rate higher once fixes have been made.

Latest update bad. There is something wrong with the dice rolling algorithm. On a recent game I rolled a “1” six times in a series of twelve rolls. There are very improbable dice roll outcomes with this game; something wrong with the random dice roll program. I think I will stick with the actual physical board game; at least I know the dice I roll are honest.

Most fun game app I've tried. Finally, a decent game about the Cold War! This is fun, thought provoking, with surprising, and I haven't beaten it yet. I as on the verge f wining, and stupidly pushed a coup, leading to Defcon 1 and another loss to the Commies. Doh!!! Lotta fun, hope to see more on this topic.

Useful but major bugs. This app is useful to learn the cards, and is fun to play. However there are some real bugs. Among the worst is the AI’s intentionally and unnecessarily creating defcon suicide by couping a battleground state at defcon 2.. This happened about every four games. Disappointing, since it would be easy to fix this.

Needs in app notifications. The game has a lot going for it, visually and audio. I wish the multiplayer would stay logged in and provide app notifications when it was my turn. I’d prefer the turn time limit, rather than a turn bank.

Know what you're getting. A faithful adaptation of a great, but very complex, board game. There is a significant learning curve here. Be aware of the SUBSTANTIAL amount of time the AI will take on its turns. I had it take just under five minutes on a recent turn, just "thinking". This can get frustrating pretty quickly.

Needs a lot of work.. Unplayable. The game state doesn't save, and can't be manually saved, when your device goes to sleep. For an expensive, relatively, game from playdek, I expected much better. Very disappointing. Tutorial also needs work in explains the various options and why you might take them.

Hoping for multitasking. Great game. Hope it includes the ability to multitask and resume when switching apps.

App constantly crashes, don’t buy until they fix issues!!!. This app is so unstable and the developer hasn’t updated in a long time. Don’t buy until they fix the issues!

This update is full of bugs. This update keeps crashing on my iPad Pro 9.7” with iOS 12. I can’t restore my purchases and the computer is ultra slow for even the most simple decisions. Did you guys test this thing before releasing it?

Game Is excellent, resetting itself in the background not so much. App crashes frequently. On an iPad Pro and have closed all other apps, so this isn’t a memory issue. Additionally, if you accidentally switch to another app for even a half second, the entire game restarts and shows all loading screens. You must re-sign into the server and your game. This is incredibly annoying. Please fix!

Game Crashes Everytime. I have tried to get through the tutorial five times now and the game has crashed on me every time. Since it doesn't save progress on the tutorial I've been forced to go through the whole thing each time to get back to the place where it crashed. Very frustrating and this issue makes the game unplayable. $10 down the drain I guess. Disappointing.

This app has a defect. Realignment and coup attempts affect the demon status TWICE during offline mode when 2 players are taking turns. As a result, only two of these need to happen in a turn for defcon to reach 1 and the player initiating the event wins... huh? Please fix.

Newbie satisfied!. Having no problems on my iPad Pro. Also, my game progress is being saved (other than tutorial), so don't understand that complaint. I'm new to TS, so it is a little challenging, but in my second game I started to play both sides and it's starting to make sense.

Huge Dissapointment. Crashes on every game at least once a turn. I have not been able to make it through turn one. This game is a huge disappointment. Do not waste your money. Wait until the problems are solved before you buy. Again, buyer beware.

Twilight Struggle. It looks great on my IPad. Tutorial seemed to run ok. Then I tried to start a game and there seemed to be a timer running and giving very little time to make a move against the AI. Would not let me look at my hand to pick a card. Don't see the need for a timer against the AI and if there is one, it should be able to be shut off or adjusted. Hope this is addressed in an update soon.

Crashes and Scoring Cards. The gameplay itself is very solid. From my very first play session I knew why TS is considered one of the greatest board games of all time. The video game, however, occasionally crashes, and half my games are won on the first turn because the AI won't play their scoring cards.

A REAL Strategy Game!!. Don't let anyone discourage you from buying this game! The complexity is exactly what I've been looking for...it had me slapping my table with a shoe, screaming "I will bury you" at my AI opponent. Once I feel comfortable enough, I'll try out a live opponent...for now, for a total noob like me, the AI is a good challenge.

Great game play. Some glitches with notifications. Push notifications should take you directly to the game. Notification bubble doesn’t accurately reflect turn notifications. Gameplay and graphics are 5 stars

Not yet ready for release. Keeps crashing.. Can't get through the first 2 minutes of the tutorial without a crash to desktop. Running latest version of iOS on ipad. Had such high hopes for TS. For now, hold off on purchasing. Perhaps the bugs will be fixed at some point but for now, game isn't playable.

Slowwwwww AI - unplayable solo. Just warning to solo iPad players: the AI takes a lonnnnnng time to make a move. Some turns are so slow you will think the OS has hung. Plays okay with a live opponent. But when you the blazing speed and complex graphics of a game like Hearthstone for iPad and then you see Twilight Struggle play like molasses, you realize Playdek has some weak programmers on their team. This game should NOT have been released like this.

Crashes. I can't get through the tutorial without it crashing. It doesn't crash in the same place and the tutorial makes you start completely over again. Please fix. I've attempted restarting, shutting off the device, everything short of deleting the app. This is on iPad mini.

Stalinization Fixed!. (Updated review) - nice work fixing that glitch 5 stars fa sho Awesome digitization of the greatest board game ever made - 5 stars after destalinization issue is fixed (if AI is USSR this card takes up to 20 minutes to resolve)

Great game. I love this game, I also have the physical board game version of Twilight Struggle. I swear though the game is always skewed to make the computer always win.
