What is mindfulness coach app? Mindfulness means noticing and paying attention to what is going on in the present moment, without passing judgment on it. Mindfulness has been shown to be effective for reducing stress, improving emotional balance, increasing self-awareness, helping with anxiety and depression, and coping more effectively with chronic pain.

Mindfulness Coach 2.0 was developed to help Veterans, Service members, and others learn how to practice mindfulness. The app provides a gradual, self-guided training program designed to help you understand and adopt a simple mindfulness practice. Mindfulness Coach also offers a library of information about mindfulness (for example “What is Mindfulness?”, “How to Anchor Your Attention”), 12 audio-guided mindfulness exercises and a growing catalog of additional exercises available for free download, goal-setting and tracking, a mindfulness mastery assessment to help you track your progress over time, customizable reminders, and access to other support and crisis resources. Mindfulness Coach is free, doesn’t take or share any of your personal information, and doesn’t require add-on purchases.

Love this app...but needs some changes. I absolutely love this app!! I downloaded a lot of mindfulness apps and this is my favorite. The only complaint I have is the voices and recordings could be done a lot better. Some of the recordings it’s easy to hear the speaker turn on and off the microphone. At least add a little music in the background to lessen that. Also, some of the voices are just not good voices for mindfulness. The app itself is amazing and by far the best I found especially for learning mindfulness! I hate to even take off a star... but the fact is... it could definitely be improved upon. Please don’t let this app just ‘be’. Make it even better because it’s an amazing tool in recovery!! I am a veteran and my therapist suggested this app for me.

Very Helpful App for Anxiety. It’s been a rough few weeks but today this app actually helped me get a little better. It’s made by the VA and I’m shocked at how good it is for a free program. It won’t cost you anything and I hope it helps you too.

Mindfulness Coach. Unique app. I chose it because it was recommended for veterans and I liked that I could track my progress. Meditations can include a guided introduction or not, as you choose. Each day there is a lesson on a new way of being mindful. I wish there were more trainings, and that I could continue tracking, but I can still use the practice sessions. Otherwise I wouldn’t have given 5 stars

So helpful. I am grateful to the VA for this app. It guides you gently toward increasing mindfulness. I’m not a vet myself, but I’m honored to think that I am traveling this path with those who have served and are now developing the tools they need to live healthy lives after their service for our country.

Good for if you can’t control yourself. I didn’t know that I had such a hard time paying attention to the sensations around me until I started this app. Very nice

Practicing Mindfulness. This app has enabled me to schedule time each day to practice mindfulness. Because of daily practice I have maintained good mental health despite the Pandemic. I encourage everyone to practice daily mindful meditation!

Relaxed. I like that I could pick the length of time. Having adhd makes longer meditation/ relaxation exercises extremely difficult. This one allowed me to adjust it to the correct length.

Best Meditation App EVER. This really is the best app ever. I use it regularly and i tell all my clients about it. It has the simplest explanations of ehat stuff is. No distractions no pop ups no ads nothing to buy. Just a totally programable meditation timer and a tracking feature and my fav is the mindfulness progress evals i do those once a week to see how my practice has affected my non practicing times.

Simply the best!!. I’ve tried a few apps. This has been the most helpful to me. I recommend it to all kinds of people. It’s learning program is exceptionally slow with low expectations. Easy; try it!

DEFINITELY the BEST. I have tried a number of meditation apps. This is head and shoulders better than any other I’ve tried. Comprehensive. Adjustable to your capability. Starts at the beginning and builds as your practice improves. I really like how it provides a lot of instruction and background and so many different guided practices. AND it’s totally free. No ads and no push to have you upgrade. THANK YOU VA!

Unbelievable 1st Experience. I just finished my first exercise after reading carefully the approach methodologies. The core of Acceptance and NON-STRIVING after one go at it was amazing....for me...can’t say for you but will post my progress along the way.

Extremely helpful!!!. I wanted to try something like this for a while... but was overwhelmed with too many options. Someone recommended this app to me and it has been a truly helpful resource! It is easy to understand and navigate and has really been beneficial for me! It’s a must have for me!

Somewhat limited. I’ve just started using this app and I am quite familiar with meditation. I don’t understand why most of the meditations have you sitting in a chair. I’m more comfortable and use to meditation done on the floor. I would go ahead and use the floor anyway, but the speaker continues to speak of the floor. I find it hard to believe that users are giving this app a five star when it does not earn it. I have books that I will use instead, but I thought it would be nice to use an app that would keep track of it. What a shame!

Good Guide for Meditation. As a former meditation teacher I am always looking for apps to recommend to family & friends that want to start a practice. This is perfect. Also I love the background info abt meditation and how it takes time

Veterans Don’t overlook this app!!!. This is a wonderful app and I’m so impressed with the offerings within the app. I’m able to share this with other veterans and it’s free which makes it even more wonderful!

This App is Everything. This app is an overlooked gem. I think because it was developed by the Federal Government for Veterans people think it is sub par or not confidential. Neither is true. It’s an outstanding app for both the novice and the advanced student. The app is complete and can teach you meditation, explain mindfulness, support your practice when you need it, monitor your progress, and be your credible reliable mindfulness coach in your pocket. The graphics are soothing and the content sound and current. The app is FREE and does not track you. You have nothing to lose but stress, fatigue, anxiety, sadness, and the rest. You have everything to gain. Everything. What are you waiting for.

Extremely Well Made Application. I field tested this app while I was in the military. It was lacking. In every way it could. I spent last summer in a VA mental health facility for cPTSD and Bipolar Disorder. This app, while not a requirement for treatment, was encouraged. I’m amazed at the improvements, and not just this app. Their entire suite of apps has improved. Don’t be fooled: this isn’t just for soldiers, airmen, and marines. If you’re reading this, it’s for you.

The BEST mindfulness/ meditation app EVER!. I downloaded so many mindfulness and meditation apps, Alot of them you had to pay for to get the extra features or they were complicated to use. This app has NONE of that! No cost what so ever! They have included some great reading as well as minful exercises to really teach you and help you be a better you and overcome whatever you're going through. I also LOVE the lady's voice, she's quite soothing. And they have extra exercises you can download - once again, COMPLETLY FREE! So if you're as frustrated as I was, having trouble sleeping or dealing with issues and can't find an app without hidden fees and that isn't super complicated - download NOW!

Grateful!. I love the clear, inspiring way every meditation practice is presented. The more I practice , the more I feel open to accept every moment as it is !! More willing to accept my feelings and emotions and not being defined by them . Thank you !!

Excellent Resource. A friend of mine who is a 3 time combat veteran shared this app with me when I was going through a difficult time. The coaching and trainings taught me how to manage the difficult days and to learn ways to work through them. This is a fantastic resource.

Content great, totally free but buggy. Sometimes the app times out during practice and my phone will go to sleep so the end chime will not go off nor with the practice get logged. Not all the time though. You also can't reliably setup the intro in the practice, the sliders don't work. Overall a quality app, content-wise, but it has annoying bugs.

Outstanding App and Extremely Helpfull. I’ve tried plenty of mindfulness apps, books, tapes, CD’s, etc., but I’ve found this to be my go-to application. I went though the program several times, then later on picked and chose the areas that I needed help with. When I get away from meditating or having a difficult time, this is the first place I go to in order to get back on track. It’s like having an immediate counselor on hand.

Excellent tool. I ask that all my clients download it while helping them with their anxiety, depression, PTSD. The instructions are simple and easy to use and the narrators voice is soothing and invites one to be present.

Great for PTSD. This app breaks down mindful meditation in an appealing way to us less spiritual vets. I feel like it’s geared towards the way the military trained me to think and deal with issues in a clear and concise way. It’s easy to figure out how to use, but would benefit from a small tutorial. Mindfulness has improved how I think/feel tremendously, and has improved all my relationships. I’m a kinder more compassionate person now. I’ve always heard it’s best to live “in the moment” and this app teaches how to do that.

Therapy meditation. Great way to learn meditation with modern methods and not even realizing you’re doing meditation. Helps with overcoming fears and being stuck in certain thought processes and changing harmful thinking patterns. I love this app, very helpful.

Wonderful app. This app is helping me so much! I am finally “getting “ how mindfulness meditation works. The app is laid out beautifully and serves as a great base for further exploration. Thank you to the VA. More please!

Trying to understand. The interaction between my body and my mind, in these stressful, anxious times .. particularly as I have plenty of time almost hiding out in my apartment ... so when I tried this it has helped me reach a calmness. I practice and then go back and start again. It gets easier to focus with practice. Cudo's to the VA.

Most cost effective app on the store!. This app provides evidence-based mindfulness apps for free. I couple this with yoga through Veterans Yoga Project, which is free for U.S. veterans, and have had a ton of success when I do both regularly. Mindfulness is a must though!

Have an Open Mind. So I recently discovered that I have some deep rooted depression and mental health issues that I’ve never resolved. My friend recommended this app and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with it. I would just ask that anyone suffering, big or small to have an open mind. If you’re anything like me I was trying to roll my eyes but wanted to at least TRY. And I’m so glad I did! It’s practical and allows you to document your thoughts, create goals, and watch your little tree grow. 🥹

Awesome!. I love this app. This is the first review I have done for an app. I try to use this app on a daily basis. I try to tell everyone about this app. I love that they have the tree that grows. It is like a little positive reinforcement. I know it sounds silly but it’s satisfying. I hope you enjoy this app as much as I do.

Great app!. This app is a great tool for learning about mindfulness, and just to be a more relaxed person in general. My therapist recommended it for me, she found out about it from doing her clinical rotations in the VA. I think it’s great! It’s very thorough, has good features, and it’s free with no in-app purchases required!! And no advertisements!! They recently renovated the app completely, and it’s even better than it was before.

Amazing!. Not a veteran, but I’m a career emt and PTSD sufferer since the age of 7. Years in rescue have only added to the issues. This app has been a dramatic help! I have less nightmares, panic attacks are easier to control, and flashbacks are few and far between! The best part is it’s FREE! Completely 100% free!

Needs more to do. Its a good idea to have the tree growing and stuff but a lot of it is reading little paragraphs about what stuff means (like what mindfulness means and how you can be more mindful etc.) and there are things where you sit down and a lady talks and stuff but the only thing I actually use it for is the goals. They have a thing where you write in goals and then you say what % successful you were at completing your goal. So it’s a good idea but it needs more things to do. Thanks!!!

Developed To Help PTSD for US Military - Best Mindfulness App Out There. This app was developed for helping military personnel suffering from PSTD - it is a very well thought through easy to use teaching & practice aid. Does as much & probably more than several other paid apps I have used for meditation & mindfulness - guess it is a paid app via US taxes but free from the App Store - can’t understand why anyone would pay for anything else when this is available and it is unbelievable it is for FREE

Give this a try! It's worth it!. Visual and/or audio! Body scan is great, I use it when I need help falling asleep!! Breathing tool (9minutes) is by far the best I've found for daily/nightly relaxation!!! Many other meditation options available on this free app for ANYONE to use!!!! Remember, you can modify your positions to fit your needs. The breathing says to sit, but I lay. The body scan is longer, so depending on what I need it for (meditation or sleeping), I sit or lay down.

Great intro, one suggestion. This app is a great introduction to mindfulness and meditation. I do have one suggestion: use a naming convention that identifies the series that a practice belongs in. When you download additional tools (like iRest) the exercises are sorted alphabetically among the default ones. There’s no guide to indicate which order to do the exercises (or even whether they are from the original series or something else). I.e.: Mindfulness 1: Seated Practice, Mindfulness 2: Awareness of Breathe, iRest 1: Heart Felt Mission, etc. iRest 2: (Whichever one comes 2nd, I haven’t figured it out yet)

Use it all the time with my clients!. Fantastic resource! I share it with many of my clients, in my therapy practice. It is a great tool for them to use to practice their skills at home!

A Great Minfulness Ap That is Really Free. This app is very well done. It was written by the VA for soldiers, and released to the public. Unlike other meditation apps I have used, I am not constantly prodded to pay for the next meditation/upgrade.

Generally good. I like most of the meditations and progressions, although the end tone on the seated practices often doesn’t go off, leaving me wondering when the meditation is over, not realizing that it has been over for an unknown amount of time.

Mindfulness coach. I used this app a lot until it broke. It just flickers and turns off. I tried deleting and reloading but no change. It was my favorite app. Does this sound like a Russian cyber attack?

Great foundational app. I got this app because it seemed to be solid and all business without unnecessary bell and whistles nor freemium items they were always selling. With that expectation I have been very pleased and would recommend

Unbelievable surprise. I can’t believe how this app has helped me with experiencing love and being present. Most of us vets with PTSD and emotional issues have with focus and issues simply being present. This has really helped my love for people and with being present and not focusing on issues that are over. I do it at lunch in my car after I pray everyday and people can really see how calm and present I am.

Perfect for Everyone. Despite the fact that this app is geared toward service members, this app is universal. It is quite user friendly and is as informative as it is interactive. I would continue to use this by myself and in conjunction with therapy.

THE BEST MEDITATION APP. Hands down the best mindfulness app. No gimmicks, no fees or subscriptions, no ads. Just Pure, instructive life changing mindfulness. Only thing i would say to the developers, could you please create an organization/filter for the practices tab. When you download the iRest files they are supposed to be listened to in order, but you can’t because they get all mixed up. Could you please fix this?

Simple and great. This is the best app out there and it’s completely free. This app has helped me with my emotional problems and established good daily mindfulness practice in my life. I wish that other mental health and general wellbeing apps would take a lesson from this one. Getting help shouldn’t be locked behind paywalls and monthly subscriptions. Thank you for the great app!

Excellent. Skip the apps that charge and give this a go. It’s equal to the apps that charge $40+ and I’ve tried those too. But quality equal to those and this app is free, easy choice what to continue to use. Great practices and response developer to feedback.

Helpful for ME/CFS. This illness is somewhat like having PTSD. Wondering when “the next shoe is going to drop”! Since first being diagnosed in 2003, this app has been one of the most helpful aids in helping my symptoms!

Mindful of being mindful. I’ve often heard of the phrase mindful, but it never felt relatable until I started using this app. In just a few meditations I have already adapted techniques that created a space for awareness of my actions and reactions, by deploying a broadcast delay technique, or intentional response delay just live TV broadcasters do when broadcasting live. This allows me to calm my mind and approach daily travels with control and peace. I’ve also learned to treat anxiety symptoms through controlled breathing exercises I have adapted along the way. #highlyrecommend.

Amazing!. This app is seriously so well done and has so much helpful content, I am amazed that it is free. It has become an integral part of my mornings and I absolutely love the educational portion! They give you information and then give you the opportunity to practice and log the work you’ve done. The resources are truly fantastic. ABSOLUTELY LOVE!!

New App Is Worthless!!!. Update: I see that no one else likes the new update as well!!! And so very true about NO APP SUPPORT! I tried the same thing that was posted in another review... there is NONE! So typical of the VA, change it, post it & walk away! No follow-up to anything or anyone! I’m a 100% disabled vet from the Gulf War & this was my go to app when things started to become overwhelming and/or I just needed to stop and regroup my thoughts. It’s truly a shame that they have taken what was a free great app for us Veterans & anyone else to use and have ruined it!!! None of my existing data was transferred over! Now you have to go through all the levels!!! Lastly, I’m unable to import my own music for “Mindful Listening!!! I will not be using this app anymore! It used to be great & I used it almost everyday, sometimes more than once - not anymore. Just one more thing that the VA screwed up & never asked us veterans if there was a way to make it better... what a joke!!!

A Free No Nonsense Meditation App. This app contains an easy to understand introductory course on mindfulness as well as many practical meditation sessions. I do hope veterans find it useful when dealing with mental health issues. Included more lessons in the range of 5, 10 and 15 minutes would be nice. Un my case that would be useful for my mindfulness practice while commuting on buses and trains.

Best Mindfulness App Available!. I have explored many mindfulness apps over the years, and hands down this one is the best one out there. It contains the basic information found in other apps, but then expands on information and provides assessments and feedback that are unparalleled. It was refreshing to actually learn something new after so many years! I would definitely recommend this app to everyone. BEST MINDFULNESS APP HANDS DOWN. I love meditation apps. I’ve downloaded every one I can find. The user interface isn’t shiny and new, but the content is unparalleled.

The upgrade needs an upgrade. The graphic is nice but hey, my eyes are closed. I wish the text of the sitting meditation was improved, I didn’t care for the voice sound and the three bell rings at the end could be softer.

My mind. I needed this coach to help me to stay calm and not be distracted. So easy to let my mind wander. By using it, along with other things like painting and music, I lowered my blood pressure.

The best. This is really helpful to people with depression and people who finds it really difficult to connect with real world.

Useless. The Department of Veteran Affairs is kind of on the right track, but the consumers this app is made for are half/mostly deaf. The audio tracks need to be re recorded. I had a track on, with headphones on max volume and couldn’t follow it.

Great variety of practices. I love this app, and have used it every day for over a year. There are 15 or so guided practices. The speaker’s voice is very simple, not breathy like many other guided meditations.

Poor app. Very poor app. The alarm never goes off. So you need to set a secondary alarm, cause this won’t.

Didn’t like this. Found the instructors voice irritating to listen toe and have tried many other platforms such as headspace, which are many times better.
