Sliver App Description & Overview
What is sliver app? Sliver is a powerful tool for soundscape and sonic texture creation.
Working beautifully with any audio content... melodic, rhythmic, noise, or otherwise, Sliver is well suited for a broad range of project types including:
Soundscapes
Ambient
Drone
Glitch
Noise
Pads
Sound Design / Sound Effects
Unique Sonic Textures
Cinematic Sound Elements
Creating a playable instrument from any sound.
The core of Sliver is the 4 real-time resizable clips (slivers) that can be moved around the waveform. Each sliver has it’s own channel with independent volume, pan, filter, and sliver size. These controls can be set in motion with Sliver's automation engine. Sliver uses a real-time automation system to movement in your textures. This system also allows for override to be able to shape the ongoing captured performance. The filters and size windows are controlled by XY pads, giving Sliver a natural playability, creating a new type of instrument.
Touching along the waveform places, moves, and sizes the slivers, allowing you to intuitively scrub the waveform with a variable loop size.
A chain of effects assigned to XY Control pads allows you to shape and mangle the sounds produced by the slivers.
You can Automate every control.
Sliver uses Apples UIKit Dynamics to create physics on the XY Pads, allowing customized settings for the controls to shape the sound randomly with physics.
Sliver supports Audiobus, sitting in an input slot.
You can import samples via AudioShare import or Audiocopy.
You can resample, record your own samples via the Mic, or do both at once.
This app uses Background Audio and Records from the Mic. You will see a red bar when placing the app in the background.
Sliver supports MIDI learn and is fully controllable from Virtual, Network, and MIDI hardware.
Make some noises, mangle some sounds, create your own soundscape.

MIDI ADSR uses an envelope on audio that Sliver is generating. This envelope is triggered by receiving MIDI note on information. MIDI ADSR is now off by default when opening Sliver. When you turn MIDI ADSR on it will display a status message while on. This change is to avoid confusion while MIDI ADSR is on and not receiving MIDI data, it appears that Sliver does not produce audio.

Unfinished app?. This one, though promising, isn’t working well for me. It randomly quits on me and isn’t saving presets accurately. Important areas on the interface have the same size as little-used areas and are not demarcated clearly enough, and compared to other apps it’s very easy to select the wrong thing. Looking forward to updates because I like what it’s trying to achieve.
Brilliant app. This app definitely belongs in the "weird and wonderful" category. It will require you to really sit down and suss out all the wonderful features to truly appreciate it. That being said, you can bring in a sound and absolutely go crazy with it right out of the gate. Great developer as well, who has dedicated much time and effort into this app. This one will remain a winner for a long time.
Another creative, exciting Mathieu sound/music development tool. If I have to read another genius review calling an app a “toy” and not (pick a word for some category of thing we are meant to presume is somehow better than a toy and insert it here), a piece of my poor, unreality-damaged American brain will likely shrivel down to a useless stump. At which point, I suppose, I will cease to register bull dink until such time as the brain can regenerate a new meaninglessness meter. If I can get to a place detached from the internet and news of White House briefings. Enough of that. Sliver is not perfect. It really could benefit from basic usability updates focused on bringing precision and control to the creative chaos it brilliantly brings to music making and sound design. When I want some inspirational sound mangling that is nonetheless musical, Sliver provides it. Bringing it to heel, however, is real work. To some extent, it cannot be done. This lack of parameter precision is not a fatal flaw, but it does limit how and when I use the app. I would use Sliver much more often and put it to better use if I could impose a little bit more method onto the frequently lovely madness it encourages. It would not be a huge amount of development work to add more numerical control to or along with the blocks and the X/Y pads, for example. Yet even those changes would much improve usability. My use of the app revolves around copying audio into Sliver, making something almost completely different, recording the result, and exporting/copying that recording to some other app. I suspect this is the intended workflow, and that is fine by me. There is no reason to hesitate about getting the app if you need some craziness in your music. But there is at the same time ample reason for Alex to make some UI and functional changes to increase the scope of what Sliver can do.
still amazing and essential. i love this app and the presets are amazing and easy to get lost in and listen to and space out... so simple and fun to use and the results are always superb!lots and lots of fun
Textural and interesting.. Sliver is essential for those involved with any sort of ambient/drift/drone/minimal experimental recording. The use of assignable incremental sections is brilliant and yields some very interesting results. The apps functionality is great. I've been using Sliver heavily and have experienced very few problems, if any. Takes a bit of exploring to unlock its full potential which is fun. Love how it works with audiobus and IAA straight into audio share which is a nice feature. I would like to see an update featuring mutable and/or assignable effects parameters (being able to alter the pitch bend range for more subtlety), and longer sample time for more variety. Would love to speak with the developer if I could! All in all a fantastic app that should really be getting more attention! Highly recommended
Fantastic effects. Spent the last hour making brilliant sounds and jamming with Addictive Pro and Drum Jam + Sliver in AudioBus. iPad Air 2, iOS 9.3.5. Glad I picked this up.
Great app.... But it really needs an update. That being said, it still does some cool stuff.
This is the Future.. This app is a godsend of genius. Thanks Alex.
Superb. Wonderful app! I wish it had a button for working off screen in audio us, and I have had a few times where it reset or went to sleep in audio us too, but even with those issues which will be ironed out I am sure, I give it five. I have only scratched the surface of what it can do.
Bugs. Sound only works sometimes. Not compatible with audiobus.
If you need a drone.... This is what you want.
Awesome X2!. Sliver shares the top of the list when comes IOS effects apps. Absolutely amazing motion sounds can be achieved with very little effort. AB support sends it over the top, with integration with my other music apps. A responsive Dev makes it a must buy.
Just rediscovered this beauty. Excellent soundscaping instrument. Also, check out the same developer's Glitchbreaks. It's another winner. Recommended!
A real sleeper. Great unique little app, industrial music for industrial people. Can be unwieldy at times but fun to experiment with. Long audio files tend to be more drifty and noisy or ambient, short audio files tend to be more musical. I love that the dev keeps updating it, unlike many bigger devs on Apple Store I could mention. Thank you Alex M.
Interesting and cool, not a new instrument. Fun, a lot of territory to explore, it has the potential to find a place in my standing rig, but it crashed under the simplest of conditions. This was the only app running on my Ipad at the time and the app crashes For now it is a toy, not a tool.
Broken. Will not load in effects slot in AUM. Launching in background crashes AUM on iPad Pro. Frustrating.
Nothing works now. After the May 2019 update, no sound and various parameters are just visually vibrating all over the place with nothing happening sound wise! Please fix!
So Dope!. This is a super cool idea with a lot of potential. As I am a major fan of Glitchbreaks too and have gifted it to a couple good friends (who were blown away BTW), Sliver is just plain sweet! It's cheap too! This app is a lot of different concepts put together that can produce some great music, noise, musical noise or broccoli salad, er I mean noisy music! Thanks Alex you rock! Additionaly: Any questions or support issues I've EVER had, I got nearly an immediate response to. Gonna get back to it. Thank you Palmsounds dot net for the news of it even though you don't like me anymore because I'm a yank I still read your blog.

Another amazing App from Alex Matheu. This is fantastic. For glitch / drone / soundscape fans this is a no brainer. It's easy to use but has a lot of depth in the results that can be achieved. It's a lot of fun to use and highly intuitive and addictive. It's also possible to 'play' your creations on a traditional keyboard, which can yield some fantastic results if looking for more conventional sounds that have lots of movement. Fantastic stuff. Highly recommended.
One of a kind. For what its designed for it does the job impeccably and with tremendous ease. You can see playing with it for hours, and inspires all kinds of ideas.
Wonderful!. This is a great app for creating amazing sounds. You can bring your own sounds into the app and distort, twist, mangle and create very interesting new sounds. Lots of control over the various sound FX. Then you can take your new sound out to your DAW or other audio app. And it supports Audiobus! Very happy with this app.

Needs an update.. Both this and its sister program GlitchBreaks will not work with Audiobus 3. They both crash. Please address this. Thank you.
Needs an update at this point.. Thanks for the kind reminder on FB. 🙄
wassup?. you let us down or what?
