* Extensible with Workflows and Scripts – Select from over 50 text processing actions to create your own workflows for extending Editorial's feature set. For even more advanced automation, you can write Python scripts with an integrated code and UI editor.

* Dropbox Sync – The sync folder is customizable, so you can easily edit your documents with multiple apps.

* Smart Keyboard – The extended keyboard was specifically designed for writing Markdown and includes all the special characters you need. You can also control the cursor with simple swipe gestures.

* In-App Browser – If you need to do some quick research while writing, you don't have to leave the app for that. You can even open multiple tabs.

* "Folding" allows you to quickly hide individual sections of your document while you're writing.

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Please add Box support!. Great app with all the core capabilities and functionality I need, except the ability to link to Box and iCloud! Adding these features would make this a 5 star app!

Dropbox sync doesnt work right. Dropbox sync creates dozens of conflicted copies, even though I'm only editing my files with editorial. This is extremely confusing, and I've just lost some of my writing again because of that. Great app otherwise, but this issue makes it unusable, please fix it!

❤️Love it! A TaskPaper Editor on my iPad!! 😊. This app does three valuable things that I've not seen mentioned in the other reviews: First, this app is "File Sharing Enabled," which means I can use apps like iTunes or iMazing to see, grab and transfer any of the files I've written within this app onto my Mac, and vice-versa, through a USB cable or local WiFi. I know a lot of folks like the convenience of automatic synching, but I live in a place where the internet is not always fast or reliable, so doing this without internet is a BIG issue for me. Also, I've never lost any data doing transfers this way. Second, this app still supports iOS 9, which means I can use it on my ancient iPad 2!! Third, this app does a BETTER job with making TaskPaper ToDo lists easy to work with than the original TaskPaper app (on the Mac). And that says a lot!

Awesome App Except..... ...lack of support for anything other than Dropbox and local files. It might have made sense back in the day when every cloud provider had to be integrated separately. But nowadays iOS (iPadOS) support a central file repository which integrates with multiple cloud providers including Dropbox and local files. Why not support that?

Thanks for the update!. This is one of my most used, most depended on apps. So glad you are continuing active maintenance on it.

Awesome Tool for taskpaper. Holy cow this editor is amzing. I am using it for taskpaper and it just works. I can see it replacing a host of other tools I use. I would love an OS X version. My original 2 star review was about lack of iCloud support - still annoyed but dropboxed instead. Have to say, the better tracking of files and deletions in Dropbox is worth the hassle.

Fantastic but I would like to have more flexibility for shared file location. Fantastic but I would like to have more flexibility for shared file location. The only shared file location is Dropbox but I would like to be able to use iCloud for storage as well for cross device synchronization.

Updated!!. SO happy to see an update after 2 years. Thank you!

Powerful and now works with large iPhones!. Shortcut keys and scripts make this the most powerful text editor. There are many features I don’t use (like Taskpaper) - this software is deep! A good compliment to Emacs.

Finally updated for iOS 13!. This wasn't working on my iPhone XR and I ended up paying for another text editor that I didn't like as much. I'm finally back to Editorial and it's working great! The only thing I feel I'm missing is a Favorites list so I can go straight to my most-used text files, but that's a minor inconvenience (and they're usually in the Recent list anyway).

My favorite writing app. It is wonderful to see this maintenance update. I use Editorial on a daily basis as my primary writing program on both my iPhone and iPad, and it is encouraging to see this progress. I have tried dozens of other apps as potential replacements, and none of them come close to the feature set and quality offered by Editorial. There are good apps out there, but I have yet to find one that both hits the key features I want and does so in a refined and elegant manner. I love the way it displays Markdown and Taskpaper, and the folding sections option is exceptional when I am working with larger documents. The ongoing ability to use Dropbox to sync is essential for my use of iOS with a PC, as iCloud struggles to perform well on Windows. Editorial continues to fill a vital need in my work that other apps have been unable to replace, no matter how many I have tried. Really appreciate the work that has gone into this app!

My daily driver. Couldn’t get my work done nearly as easily without editorial. Would pay 10 times as much for this app. I couldn’t script my way out of a paper bag, yet I bought pythonista only to support the dev.

Perfect TaskPaper editor on iOS. I made the move to TaskPaper recently on MacOS and I’ve been searching for a good solution for editing files on iOS. Turns out I bought Editorial some time ago but never really got into it. It’s a fantastic solution for editing TaskPaper files on iOS.

The Best. This is, in my opinion, the best Markdown editor available on any platform.

Best markdown editor for iOS. This is my favorite Markdown editor; I have never found another that comes even close—search works amazingly well every time I've had to find something; I love how customizable the typography while you're working is and how you can write your own CSS for preview themes (so few editors do this, and it's so satisfying to not only write in text that pleases me but also use the Markdown previews I create in a form that's most beautiful and useful to me, right in the app); the UI isn't too graphical and clunky, but more like a filesystem, which gives me more space to work; the extra keyboard keys and macros are so useful and easy to use and set up (I use them all the time). I adore this app! I take all my technical notes in it because of how customizable it is, the Multimarkdown support, the TextExpander support, and how sweet it is not having to put up with themes you dislike but know how to fix if only the app would let you. (Thank you so much for updating! I've missed the full functionality of this app, but everything works wonderfully now.)

Best mobile phone editing for Markdown*. *

Great app, would like to see additional functionality. Been using the app for some time now. It has a lot of great features and works very well. I especially like the folding headings feature which allows me to hide and show different parts of a document. The only disappointing thing so far on the app is that it does not allow folding subheadings which would be very helpful for organizing more complex documents.

Does not work with iCloud Drive. I'm so bummed. This almost did it. It had what I wanted and it works with my decade old iPad. Like finding a unicorn. BUT I got it to to work with files in my Obsidian folder on iCloud. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH ICLOUD DRIVE! This ONLY works with DropBox and local storage. Drop box login doesn't even work on my old iPad web browser.

Amazing, Perfect and Full of Surprises. I keep forgetting all that Editorial is capable of. I forgot about the snippet/text expansion capabilities for inserting current date and time, and after spending all day looking for an affordable option on iOS… I realized, Oh right, Editorial does THAT too!!! Amazing!

🏆 Great App, 🤔 Needs OneDrive Integration. Best iOS text/Markdown editor I've found, but I'd really like to see integration/sync with OneDrive in addition to Dropbox.

Nifty. I use it and Pythonista to learn and to just write. These apps help the days go by and I'm saying that in the best way possible. Thank you.

The most flixible & powerful editor I have found. Sorry to see this app die. It has been such a huge help for me I wish I could give it six stars. It has performed flawlessly, and though I mainly used it with Markdown on files stored on Dropbox, I was in it almost daily without a single hiccup. That said, it looks like it is no longer maintained, so I am checking out Obsidian. Joplin also appears to be a very capable (and less fiddly) option with good sync. Both are extensible and multi-platform, if like me you are looking for options.

Still works… but abandoned. Still works! Unfortunately, it is pretty much abandonware.

Solid DropBox Sync. Really like the way it’s been syncing reliably with DropBox. However, I wish there was an option to sync through iCloud Drive as well.

Perfectly Designed, Easy to Use. I cannot imagine a more beautiful or well-designed application for working with Markdown files on iOS. Editing, viewing, and exporting documents feels perfectly natural. For mobile devices I can recommend no other editor more highly than I can this one.

So confused. I have read the tutorials. Guess I still don't know how it works. I'll be back and update later, probably

No longer supported. I used this for several years and found it quite useful and reliable. I never used the Markdown capabilities. Lately however I found it no longer worked well with Dropbox. It would sometimes take five minutes to create a new file or open an existing one. I have switched to Note Master, which I’ve only used for a few days, but like much better. It’s worth the small cost for the full version.

Folding Headers. As far as I know, this is the only app in the App Store that supports folding headers. “What’s that?”, you ask. It means if you use a # Symbol to start a line, you can then tap the symbol to fold the section headed by that line. It essentially turns the app into an outliner. Super powerful. And that’s just one of many impressive features. This is my go to Dropbox editor.

Not being actively supported. I’ve used this app for years and really loved. It was extremely disappointing to buy an iPhone XS and realize the developer has not supported the newest displays. Moving on to another text editor.

iPhone X update please. Thank you for this great app but it’s been quite a while and it would be nice to see an update for the screen size of iPhone X.

Editorial for work. Covers a lot of ground. I tailor as many of my organization (of info) tasks as I can to Editorial. Nicely behaved. What I can’t do easily I bounce via Dropbox to my main (Linux) machine. Easy because everything’s in plain text. All thumbs up!

powerful writing tool !. I love this app and use it every day!

It’s good, but.... It needs an update to support iOS 14. There is a weird paste dialogue every time I add text. Also there should be native support for the iCloud file structure. It’s seems really weird to use something like Dropbox when iOS and MacOS provide an easy to use structure. I don’t like having to use iTunes to transfer my files back-and-forth.

Great editor, with one minor annoyance. Great editor, with Dropbox sync that works like a charm. The only annoyance is that even if it has an auto-capitalization feature, it does not work when creating lists (does not activate when typing ‘* ‘ on a new line).

Workflows are Amazing. This is a solid Markdown editor but what really is amazing is the power that come from workflows. I’m using a workflow to publish blog posts to GitHub Pages (using Working Copy) and it’s incredible how powerful and customisable I can make the workflow.

Excellent professional level app. Editorial is a serious application that has outstanding multiple capacities from simple text editing to Python programming. It is almost the Emacs of iPhones. It's modal interface takes some getting used to. Expect to spend a few hours before going into the field to take notes. You will be rewarded by this well thought out and professional level application.

Yipee!. Editorial is back and better than ever. Keep the updates coming and add an in-app purchase tip jar if it will help. Thank you so very much for updating. I had switch to AI Writer and while it does some things good, it is missing other things from Editorial.

The Most Powerful Writing App. I use it primarily for note taking in meetings, at conferences, etc and it works amazingly for my workflow. I do agree that the app is ready for some updates, however in my opinion it was 6 years ahead of it's time when it was released. Ole Zorn is a forward-thinking genius and Apple is just beginning to even become close to catching up from the OS side by acquiring Workflow and launching Siri Shortcuts. At this point, the app is still ahead of it's time in some areas, but just barely beginning to fall behind in other areas. It's important to keep in mind that Editorial is primarily geared toward power users with at least a little bit of programming knowledge, the extremely negative reviews are coming from users who were in way over their head when they installed it. If you have a little bit of curiosity, hunger to learn, ans commitment to improving the way you write or take notes, Editorial is for you.

A lot to like, but what about iCloud Drive?. There's a lot to like, and the potential for automation using Python is something I want to explore. Being able to open documents on a Mac without exporting is important to my workflow, and so deeper integration with iCloud Drive as primary storage would be very nice and seems like such an obvious feature in the Apple universe. I don't use Dropbox.

Awesome writing app!. Now that it HAS been updated for IOS 10, this is my favorite writing app. I have several workflows that enhance how it works for me. If you like customizing your writing environment with snippets (text substitutions) and workflows (text manipulation scripts), then this editor might be for you. Since being updated, it CAN be used in split screen mode!

Still the miracle app. Ignore the low reviews, they're out of date – yes the updates are infrequent, but the app is in good shape for new phones. Check it out, especially Workflows, there's still nothing like it. Play with your docs, is the best way to describe Editorial.

Great app for writing markdown notes. This is a great app for writing notes in markdown. It syncs well with dropbox, and is a breeze to use on ipad. I use it as a mobile editor for Obsidian, and it does that very well. I really wish there were more keyboard shortcuts and especially wish there were customizable shortcuts. I end up touching the screen too much when typing. Additionally, tiered lists look really weird in the markdown previewer.

Most powerful editor you’ll find. Editorial is my main text editor, and its taskpaper support is exceptional.

Developer Not Updating, No iPhone X Support. The developer is MIA. It *was* the best plain text editor with Markdown and Dropbox support, but, given that the developer barely updates it once a year and doesn't reply to direct/private messages on Twitter asking when it will be updated to support the iPhone X, I think it's safe to say that the app has been abandoned at this point. I'd be happy to change this review if the developer updates the app once in a while, but I've moved on to another app. I don't love it as much as I loved Editorial, but I'd rather support another developer who is still improving his app than try to work with software that isn't getting the attention it needs.

Still good—a pity it's abandoned.. No other text editor even comes close to its absolutely transparent Dropbox integration. I'll keep using it until it won't launch any more.

Only Dropbox. Would love to use it but unfortunately Dropbox is the only option for file sync. Not even iOS Files is supported

Amazing app. Editorial is an amazing app. It is robust in so many ways that aren't available in other apps. For example, a workflow allows folding and rearranging headings. Please continue to develop this app.

This app *must* endure. March 2024 update: loses a star because, sadly, it does appear to be abandonware 😕 I used Editorial in the past. I just started using it again today, and I had forgotten the ease with which one can create workflows! It is simply indispensable, and I do hope it will never be abandoned by the creator!!

Don't waste your time or money on this dog of an app. Spent over a hour with this buggy and largely unusable text editor. Impossible to get back to file menu once doc is complete; top row of keys appears and disappears; slide finger to move cursor does not work unless top row is absent and no evident way to make that happen consistently. You can begin new doc at first but then next to impossible to start another doc or return to menu. Only thing that functions as it should is the share sheet. Sure the cost is cheap but you get what you pay for and in this case you get next to nothing. The positive reviewers for this app must either be shills or living in a fantasy world.

Apparently abandoned (RIP). Until today, Editorial was in my Dock. Anything I wanted to write, Editorial was a matter of muscle memory. The last update was a year ago, the developer tweeted that maintaining the app was overwhelming him, and most of the support forum has been deleted. Now that iOS/iPadOS notifies the source and destination of pastes (version 14, nine months as I write), every tap, keystroke, and move to another app after you paste anything pops up the same notification. It's too bad. It's a loss.

Thanks for the update!. This app has been so important to my workflow, great to see it updated for iPhone X, Xs, Xs Max etc

2 years later, still no iPhone X support?. Other reviews mentioned it, should have read those first. I think all it takes these days is the developer to click recompile in Xcode and it adds iPhone X support. Yet 2 years later, this app doesn’t support them?

Never updated for iOS 8 / iPhone 6 - no git integration. The app appears massive on iPhone 6/6+ which makes it not very useful to write on. While it looks like it was great while it was being maintained - it's seriously lacking from not having git / GitHub or Gitlab integration.

Back at the very top. There are several excellent apps for writing on IOS. Editorial has always been one of them but the latest update puts it back at the very top. If you write, get it, and learn how to download (or build) the workflows you need - you won't be disappointed. The short learning curve will make up for itself in no time. This new version adds text folding and a very usable "arrange paragraphs"mode which makes Editorial brilliant for longer pieces and outlining. This is the real deal. One of the strengths of Editorial is that it uses plan text files. This also creates its only serious weakness, which will only be an issue for some users. It's this - you can only work with text, not pictures, in the edit mode. But you can see your pictures fully laid out by flicking to preview mode, so in practice this is a minor issue unless you really need graphics to be visible as you write.

My goto markdown (or any notes really) app. Perfect - they more I use it the more I love it

★★★★★★. Six stars! This app empowers you do do so many things with your phone! Definitely worth the purchase.

Should be better!. I don’t use writing apps anymore since they pretty much all suck. This was one of the better ones. However, there’ve been no updates for more than half a year. It still has that stupid keyboard helper bar, which is absolutely a waste of space and screen clutter when I’m using a wireless keyboard, like any serious writer does.

Would love to see Resilio Sync support added. It's a great app but really clumsy in terms of working and sharing your files with only support being Dropbox. I would love to see Resilio Sync formerly BitTorrent Sync support added for more flexible file syncing and sharing between devices, teams and beyond. It's a really flexible and powerful private self hosted cloud of sorts - I have no connection but live using it between my devices. Even works offline without internet over local wifi and is superfast. Cheers

Fantastic app, but needs iCloud sync. I've been using Editorial for years, but stopped with some other apps in my workflow (like iA Writer) started requiring iCloud. I hope more sync options will be available soon, because Editorial is otherwise the best Markdown and TaskPaper app on iOS, even if you don't get into the scripting side of things.

Fantastic!. Too good to be true.

A Unique Text Editor. This text editor has features like no other, and is worth every cent. I especially like the ability to move paragraphs, and taskpaper format.

Whenever you copy and paste it becomes tedious…. Whenever you copy and paste it becomes tedious, with the app constantly repeating the message “text was pasted from”. Fix that please,

Fantastic writing app. All-around fantastic, reliable and very powerful. Only downside: Still not optimised for iPad Pro.

Very good. OMZ apps are the most high quality and high effort apps out there - youd be a fool not to take advantage of these apps

A fantastic productivity tool. Up to now I thought Drafts was the best text editor for getting things done on the iPad but Editorial takes this to a whole new level giving me the power to do things with text that I normally would have to resort to using my laptop. I can't wait to make full use of the workflow functions.

Incredible. One of the best apps I've bought. This has to be one of the best apps I have bought. It just makes creating and editing files easy. The workflows are powerful and the appearance is customisable. Awesome features like swiping along the top keyboard row to change cursor position are great and intuitive (why don't more people do it?). Bucketfuls of features with plenty of documentation to be found.

Great app but not updated for 2018 or 2019 size screen. Would be 5 stars if the updates were more frequent

So much is possible with this app. I use Editorial to keep my work, writing and todos in plaintext. This keep my files from being locked into proprietary formats as much as possible. The programmable features makes this easy and viable. Recommended. Thank you.

Very nifty. I came across this app via the B2W podcast this week. It is the ultimate nerds text editor! I plan on using it to take notes in meetings, write papers, and perhaps integrate into a todo / project system. I don't speak python but the included workflows look great.

Should be called OMG:Software. An easy way to make a couple of bucks off me used to be "write text editor, charge couple bucks". I've bought them all. Typically they all missed something that made it not quite complete. Sad news for developers, now that Editorial exists, especially now that it is available on iPhone for no more money than I already paid, I never have to buy another editor again. It has a whole lot of power that I will never use - but a whole lot of flexibility that I do! One of the best applications in the App Store.

Amazing tool for markdown. So far this is the best tool for markdown I ever seen on iOS.

Best markdown editor by far. I've tried them all. This is the best designed, most powerful, intelligent iPad/iPhone app of them all, and I have 500+ apps. This is the one I use everyday for Wordpress blog posts etc. lots of smart features, like being able to move cursor by swiping smart toolbar. Just go get it now!

Essential. An essential app moving to iPad as main office desk.

Left to rot. Good when it came out, but not updated in years

Please update for X/XS/XR. Loved this on my iPhone 6 and disappointed to find black bands in moving to the XR. Don’t make me try and find a replacement. You know I won’t.

Flexible, extensible text machine. It's incredible what you can do with Editorial. It has a home in my dock on my phone and my iPad, and I use it for storing all my little text notes (recipes, checklists, things to refer to again and again) and for writing longer form text pieces, like blog posts and articles. The workflow and snippet engines make editing text and manipulating it a dream. Highly recommended.

Top of breed editor, and so much more!. Calling Editorial a text editor is a bit like calling Alfred/LaunchBar/QuickSilver an app launcher; it is an exceptional markdown editor, but that is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of its capabilities. Evaluating Editorial on its merits as a markdown editor alone, it is the best available on iOS, with its extended keyboard, snippets, preview, and integrated browser. The Dropbox sync is flawless, even with directories containing many hundreds of files, and the local storage serves as a quick scratch pad. The powerful workflows however are what takes it to the next level. Even without delving into Python scripting, there is so much it can do to transform and manipulate your text. It even comes with a custom UI builder that allows you to create your own mini-apps with input fields and controls, and it's powerful automation tools can even send the output of your workflows to other apps or even compose an SMS or email. The gushing reviews you've seen around weren't exaggerating, combined with other apps like Dash by using URL schemas closes the gap between iOS and your desktop toolset. This is another one of a rare few apps where the only regret I have is not having bought it sooner!

Beastly goodness. Powerful text editor.

Crashing after today's update. Love the app but I can't even open it after today's update. Looking forward to new update. Thx

Lots of Potential.... This app would be 5 stars if it had more integration. The option to send text from safari straight to the app is a big one for me personally as well as the others mentioned in previous reviews. Too bad it hasn't been updated in a while. Will have to look for alternatives.

Fantastic!. Only needs two things -- multitasking and better Python script editing. Other than that it's close to perfect. Love it's markdown and taskpaper implementations -- use them everyday.

Outstanding text editor. The best text editor I have found so far for a touch platform. Treats basic file formats (plain text, markdown, taskpaper) in a sensible way, provides intuitive gestures and controls for different text manipulations, and is highly extensible via a Python API. The dropbox synching mechanism works flawlessly. I hope the developer keeps updating this elegant piece of software.

Love it.. Very cleverly done. Will not disappoint.

On a completely different level than other editors. The workflow and TaskPaper modes alone raise it to a high level. Everything else takes it to the clouds. I'd rated it five stars on v1.0 for iPad ... Now 1.1 completely surpasses all expectations! The best text editor just got better. 1.1.1 adds some "niceities" to TaskPaper mode ... Excellent as this is now my second most used app!

No updates - was great app. This was a fantastic app, but sadly is no longer maintained. iCloud sync seems very unlikely to ever happen. So sad. The foundation and idea for this app was excellent. Still hoping for the developer to reconsider...

Still stellar. With this update (1.2) Editorial continues its growth into the best and most intelligent text processing app. Useful and well-done features added to an already superb app make this app the best choice for text and notes. Well done!

The Best but.... One of the best and most functional writing apps. It can do so much. However: - no iCloud sync - no way to sync/backup workflows Adding these feature will make the app 5 stars.

Awesome. What a great and fun app, It lets you take Python on the iPad to new levels.

Crash. After update when I trie to go into settings it crashes please fix

Giving your iPad some real power. Simply amazing, a text editor for the post PC world. This app should cost more.

One of the best apps around. Top notch app. Best in class as a plaintext editor, and can also be extended by all sorts of workflows. One of my top three most used apps.

Don’t go with this one. There’s a lot of other alternatives to this app, with better support and frequent updates. Shame. Editorial was good a few years ago. Nowadays it seems to be all but abandoned. Don’t charge money for apps you are not actively keeping updated.

No Title Can Describe This. I would easily pay $29.99 for an app of this grade. Easily cuts my editing process in half.

Beautiful and feature-rich text-editing app. This app is a delightful experience as a writing environment. It was just updated this month.

Dropbox Bugs. Good app, but its Dropbox sync is unreliable. I’ve twice lost work because of this. Contacted support (the first time) but the thread was dropped. Be very careful with this; make sure you have frequent backups.

Fantastic tool. Great extensible writing and automation tool. Expertly designed. Love it!

Abandonware. ⚠️

Markdown Preview is beautiful. Among equivalents,I found the Editorial has the best markdown preview effect.

Missing TextExpander support in iOS 7. I've enjoyed using the app. Even though I had to start over at one point due to the app crashing every time I opened it. It still crashes on occasion. One thing I didn't notice within the documentation until too late was that TextExpander support disappeared after upgrading to iOS 7. I'm not interested in supporting two sets of snippets, whatever time I might save using the app's workflows quickly disappears once I start manually syncing snippets. I'll keep an eye on the apps updates and hopefully TextExpander support will return, but until then I'll find other options.

Surprised it’s relatively unknown. This app is nicely designed with so many features. I had a bunch of writing apps, and many defunct now, I’m glad this one is still useable. Nice support for script writing and fountain format. Syncs nicely to Dropbox. I see some have issues with it no being updated. That’s a shame. I’m using on an old device so maybe I have less issues for now. Hope it keeps getting developed!

Almost perfect. Yet, would it be possible to * inform continuously (maybe via an icon) about the Dropbox sync status? * include mathjax rendering in the preview? * adapt the extended keyboard to the iPad's split keyboard view? tbc

One of my most beloved iOS apps, now abandoned. Not updated in two years, no response from developer === It's the text editor for writing I always wanted. The workflows are great. Now that it works with iPad Pro features, I could not be happier.

Wow.. This changes everything. Go read Federico Viticci's review on MacStories for the full rundown and then come back here and buy this app.

A MileStone.. I have get hundreds of apps since 2010. Most where fine, but none reached the level of refinement and the touch of perfection that Editorial has to offer. As a scientist and a programmer, i have recently discovered the genius underlyng Python and i must admit that the power of such a language coupled with the inovative approch of Editorial result in a solution that propulse the mobile software industry far above. I have never write a single review before, for as most of us, i think only extraordinary worth a mention. But let me tell you this : should i have to keep a single app on those devices, that would be Editorial for shure as long as i can freely expand it through Python. It just feels like being back on track with a text editor and a programming environement that fit in my pocket. I can just say congratulation and thank you for the great quality and creativity of your work. Keep it up!

Excellent app. I absolutely love Editorial. It's fantastic for writing both for the web and for notes, and the Workflow integration is helpful beyond compare!

No updates for a year. It has been a year since the last update. Support for working with documents in iCloud is missing. It’s just too hard to integrate Editorial into my workflows because of it’s file management limitations. I’ve been a customer for a long time and I would love to see this app get some love from its developer. It’s a shame because the app does so much really well.

Great Great app. Need more like this!!!. Great powerful professional app. We need more like this!!

Disappointed. Text selection is buggy and doesn't behave like an app like Notes. Tapping "select" button often does nothing. Dragging the selection anchors to the left almost always swipes the right side pane into the view which is annoying. Dropbox support is buggy. Created and edited two large text files when I had no internet connection. When the connection returned the contents of both files was deleted. That's pretty much unforgivable.

This is a good app, but hasn’t been updated in over a year.. This application is a fully featured text editor with many powerful workflow features. Unfortunately, it hasn’t seen an update in a long time. In particular, it hasn’t been updated for the iPhone X/XS/Max line of devices.

A desktop markdown text editor on iOS. Due to the workflows and ability to use Python scripts, this app allows me to write and manipulate text as fast as if I were on my desktop. 5 minutes into the app and I already wrote my own workflow, and even more importantly I have found my default editor. For anyone working on markdown or plain text and want to have the ability to do more, this app is for you.

Easy to use and useful features. Very easy to use with simple but powerful editing features like snippets, taskpaper support, highlighting options, and Dropbox support (which works perfectly well). Quick to start - get right into editing without a lot of taps or swipes. Return to your editing session simply. If you're looking for a powerful but still unobtrusive text/taskpaper/fountain editor, this is definitely worth a look.

Supports Taskpaper. Great app. Well worth the price. Easy to implement the taskpaper syntax.

Could be better.. I bought Editorial few days ago, because I got tired by the unstableness of Wisdom Writer, which was and still is my favorite text editor so far. I like Editorial. But since I've been using Wisdom Writer for a long time, it is natural to compare these two apps. Wisdom Writer is the only app that has fully in-place Markdown view. With Editorial and other apps, like iA Writer, which I also have but never use, you have to use 'Preview Mode' to check the final Markdown results. It is unacceptable for me. Wisdom Writer can do that, why not others? It is like throw you back into 80's. There is full screen mode in Wisdom Writer, but not Editorial. Full screen is very important for the little screen of iPad. You can change text color in Wisdom Writer, but not in Editorial. For my work, I think Wisdom Writer is good enough, if it is stable, I mean. So I bought Editorial, and it seems more stable than Wisdom Writer. That is very attractive to me. The worst thing that could happen when you are writing is glitch. That will definitely ruin you thoughts. That is why I will keep using Editorial and hope this text editor could be more prefect so I can stop hopping from one app to another. BTW, I don't really care about the Workflow function. It is not for me. Why make a text editor so complex? As conclusion, my wishlist: 1, better Chinese support. 2, fully in-place Markdown view. 3, full screen mode when typing. 4, text color.

The Best Got Better. Last year around this time, Editorial was released on the App Store and very quickly was recognized and hailed as the most powerful iPad markdown editor. And many would say it's also the best option with the most thoughtful details. This new 1.1 edition, now available as a universal app for iPhone and iPad is even better. I love the new taskpaper format support. I'll be using this app *a lot* more often. Because as much as I enjoyed and admired Editorial for iPad, I'm on my iPhone so much more.

The one I've been waiting for. I've been wanting something like this app for a couple years. Now I have it. I'm totally ecstatic. I can't believe all the subtle details, here; this app is *deep*. I'm just beginning to unlock the potential, and I think of new workflows and Python script ideas every day. I'm not even going to cover everything I love about it. I couldn't possibly do it justice, but I wanted to leave my rating to show my support for one of the greatest developers producing for the App Store right now.

Best editor bar none. I've downloaded them all (well, most of them) and have since deleted them because Editorial does it all: markdown, HTML, web pages, posts, exports, taskpaper, and printing. Plus I've added my own workflows such as daily journaling with date/time stamps, lookup words in Chinese/English dictionary, create URL schema links to other apps, annotation book notes, etc. If that's not enough the app also provides web browsing, extensive help on the app as well as the python programming language. I also use the app to write in HTML, CSS, and Javascript. Works flawlessly. Hooked up to DropBox and I switch over to my Mac and edit the markdown there with several plain text or markdown editors (currently I use Notebooks). There is virtually nothing you can't do in Editorial using community provided workflows or your own custom workflows. Perfect in every way. ...dave

Update for iPhone X-series. I’ve loved Editorial for years. Then I got a new phone. This app isn’t optimized for the new display sizes and consequently feels cheap. Please please please. I love this and don’t want to lose it. Nothing compares to this app.

The Best of the Best. I've used Byword and Nebulous Notes, two high quality markdown editors but Editorial tops them both. Editorial is a writer's dream as it allows markdown header navigation. No more scrolling forever to get to the bottom of your document where you need to begin editing. And no more scrolling and searching to find the section you are looking for. Folding reduces clutter in the workspace. These two features make it a standout from other apps for long form writers. Integration with Launcher Center Pro for quick access to frequently used documents and quickly creating new notes. Recent documents are easily accessible which helps a lot when having to go back and forth between two or more documents. Critic Markup and Fountian support. Wow. Snippets. Shortcuts for markdown characters. And a workflow/macro editor for accessing some very powerful capabilities (but using these is entirely optional for those who want to keep it simple). What I do miss is the making workflows/macros more easily accessible from the shortcut bar (like Nebulous Notes). Especially an undo button. I know I can shake to undo but that is a pain. Also it would be nice to have button that takes back to your recent documents when buried deep in nested folder navigation and for global search. Thank you Ole for this indispensable markdown editor!

Almost perfect. I've looked at more productivity apps than I'd like to admit, and decided that this one is worth the investment of learning how to use it, instead of an easier app. Because it bends to you instead of forcing you to bend to the app. There's two things that are drawbacks. 1. My phone and ipad versions aren't syncing and so far I haven't been able to figure out why. 2. I wish I could insert pictures info the text. I know technically it's a text document, but it allows linking to images, so instead of changing it from a text editor, they could display the linked images on the text as part of the app interface, without polluting the text document.

Abandoned?. The developer appears to have abandoned this app.

I Waited Far Too Long. I can't believe I waited this long to start using Editorial. I bought Viticci's book the moment it came out and remember thinking that everything looked really interesting, but that maybe it was a bit over my head, in the weeds, etc.. I was so wrong. The workflows are brilliant, the interface is near perfect, and truthfully, the taskpaper support alone is worth the price of entry. It's just a beautiful piece of software. It has fully replaced Notesy for me to become my nvALT companion on iOS, and in so many ways it's more powerful than what I can do on my Mac.

Best Editor, and Then Some. I've toyed around with a few free and paid text editors, and this one is without a doubt the best. It's not just that it out performs on every metric which you could possibly use to evaluate a writing app. It then goes ahead and adds a full blown Python installation and pseudo IDE, which can be used to create arbitrary Python scripts that can be run from other apps, like workflow and IFTT. Editorial is a gateway to creativity and computation that no other app, or combinations of other apps, can stand up to.

Best Markdown editor period + other tools. I have been using this app for a while. This editor does what other markdown editors do but you get features that other editors don't have such as the ability to create workflows with built in functions and custom scripts using Python. The python editors is simply amazing. Add to that the preview of your markdown by simply swiping left and customizing the looks using your own custom CSS. Summarizing, you can have a simple editor or have all the power over the final results that an application can give to the user.

Cloudy thinking. I get why it uses Dropbox but I still would prefer a different cloud service provider. This is greatly highlighted since this app or Dropbox DID NOT SYNC A FILE CORRECTLY. This app is super powerful and fantastic. But it's only truly great (simple to use feature) feature for basic users (those who don't need a python or JavaScript or whatever else editor) is that if you are working on a long document you can do text folding. This app and the integration with Dropbox might have made me lose a week's worth of work. That's unacceptable because I am told it is all super secure and safe and I know it isn't user error because it is all out of my hands.

Must have. From the developer of Pythonista. That was the reason for me buy this app. It turned out to be the most useful feature of my phone. With x-callback-urls from Launch Center Pro (now displayed in Today view in Notification Center) linked to workflows in Editorial I can log anything anytime in no time! Editorial also supports x-callback, it can start other apps as well. It has Python interpreter built-in, with console & UI module written specially for iOS console, and the offline documentation. You can save files as plain text, or with Markdown formatting - Editorial has sort of syntax highlighting and HTML preview. It supports TaskPaper and Fountain, both of which I found out about thanks to this app. Text editing is simplified with top row of special symbols, swiping on which moves the cursor. Dropbox sync ensures that you always have the latest version of every file and a copy of it is stored safely in the cloud. Or you can use your local storage only. The developer is very friendly and helpful, - when I had a question he responded within hours. He is definitely not greedy - the app is universal for both iPhone and iPad. In the years of using his apps none of them ever crashed or lost its data. Highly recommended.

Thank goodness. Dr Se Pulvadæ

Won't open documents. Will not open documents from Dropbox. Click, spinner shows, nothing happens.

Lives up to the hype. I’ve been using Daedalus for writing markdown text on my iPad. Its pretty good, but I never grew comfortable with the ‘paper stacks’ — I’m now too set in my ways to change the way I file documents. So, I’ve been looking for an app that looks good, syncs using dropbox, and works with Ulysses III (my usual markdown editor on a laptop). Editorial is that app. Its unusual in that it lives up to all the 5* reviews here. Buy it, its well worth the price.

Dead app. This app is no longer supported and hasn’t even been updated for use on newer iPhones. Don’t waste your money.

No Files support?!. Given how awesome omz’s Pythonista is, I had high hopes for this app. But the fact that it doesn’t allow one to open docs from the iOS Files area (Pythonista does) makes this app pretty much useless to me.

python file won’t open. it won’t let me open or save python scripts. I thought this was a python editor😢

Was a good app.. It needs an update. Looks to be abandoned. I hope no one spends money on this out of date app.

Awesome. Didn’t know I needed it till I tried it. Wow.

Great for Writing, Poor for Managing. This is a great app to write markdown. Points for full screen mode. Biggest problem ... You cannot rename a folder! You are stuck with what you create the first time or with the headache of creating a new folder, moving selections of files, then deleting the empty folder. A possible work around ... Create a "Drafts" folder to do all initial work, then move files out to desired folders later. I would love to see UI updates include drag and drop in a tile layout of files and folders rather than the pop-over selector method. Actually, as others noted, I would love to see UI updates in general.

No iPhone X support. Used to be the best text editor on iOS. No updates in over a year. Still doesn’t support resolutions of the iPhone X or XS/XR. No support for iCloud Drive. 😢

I just wasted $5. What kind of unsupported garbage is this.

Powerful, customizable - amazing!. Got this initially for the excellent markdown capabilities - but now am even using it for my daily note-taking app (buh-bye SimpleNote). The killer feature is a drop-down menu for each text file which lets you jump to sections of your note (identified as headings using the markdown tag #) - just like a table of contents - which makes navigating long documents much easier on an iPhone. Also has many other powerful features (excellent full text search, snippets, in-app browser) AND is customizable to your liking (fonts, sync locations PLUS user-created workflows). Simply amazing.

Instant regret after buying. Custom keyboard panel doesn't work if predictive input is on. The text in the menus is glitchy (overlapping lines). No iCloud Drive support. Looks like the app is abandoned. DO NOT BUY.

Get this one first .... This app is simply how an iOS app should be developed: highly configurable, touchscreen minded, and with all the features that are necessary for writing on the iPad. The Workflows are an amazing addition and allow the community to contribute in making the app more useful. Simply put, it's the best writing tool for iOS that I've used. You'll save a great deal of time and money by simply getting this one first and reading reviews of the others.

Nice ideas, but..... It seems to be based on a "canned" app template. Maybe you are sure everyone in the world is using dropbox. Maybe thats it. Why else would so many apps that look so similar in lay out not be able to edit a folder name. It seems a very simple thing. But no, you actually have to delete and recreate the folder with a new name. Funny how there are other popular apps with this glaring shortcoming that makes me wonder, just how much coding is really taking place. Its like you have a template app that maybe some coding is being added to with your good and even great ideas, but then you forget about the small stuff and then someone says ok thats good enough. Lets get it approved and rake in the dough. Its just dissapointing. This is a great app too. I just simply will not waste my time on an app that clearly isn't complete. I will try and keep an eye out for updates, but for now this. "Canned" app IS canned(deleted).

No updates in 6 months. Not full screen on iPhone X. Dropbox sync doesn’t work.

Sync with Dropbox other then default folder not working. Sync issues and took forever to come out with a version for iPhone X and then sync is broken

Absolutely Most Powerful Text Editor on the App Store. And it just keeps getting better... Release after release, Editorial has combined an elegant simplicity that makes it easy to open and get straight to writing paired with unlimited power a la workflows, Python and sharing. I use it for my Jekyll + Github Pages based blog, and in this one app I'm able to write, edit and post to Github in finality. That's a process that even on OS X required at least 2 tools and fairly advanced knowledge of Git and Templating. Editorial makes all of these concepts approachable for anyone willing to dedicate a few hours to learning some new concepts. And for the Frederico Vetticci's of the world, well, it is the wand that enables their magic. Bravo.

Great for Markdown. A few years ago there were tons of highly rated text editors for iOS. Many of those popular apps have been abandoned. I was looking for a modern iOS app that worked on iPhones and iPads but could also sync with my desktop. This app does. The template and snippet system is amazing. If you have TextExpander it allows for even more complex snippets. I've found that paired with a travel keyboard I'm actually able to produce blog ready Markdown faster than I could on my desktop. This app is one of my best app store finds and now lives on my iPad's home screen.

Excellent. Such an amazing app. It loads in less than 2 seconds and has a very elegant, responsive interface. I use it for taking notes and as a journal, and it's quite good for jotting down things. It also has loads of useful features that you may or may not choose to use. For example, "Snippets" allow you to add some simple macros (ex. replacing 'ddd' with the current date). And there are "Workflows" which are small apps that add functionalities like converting the selected text to link to its first Google search result. It has a bunch of little features that make writing and programming easier - for example, you can swipe on the keyboard add-on to easily move the cursor left / right one character at a time.

Spectacular!. I have used over 20 different editors and IDEs on my iPhone. Some have been good, most disappointing. This is the first one that has completely blown me away. The feature set is stunning. By my second day I had written scripts to automate tasks that I had previously thought impossible. The feature set is rich to say the least, the UI is polished, and the documentation is great. Unexpectedly amazing.

Good app but has issues. I haven’t been able to use the snippets keyboard on iPad for months now.

Astoundingly well-featured. Editorial has allowed me to delete all the other note-taking and text-editing programs I'd been using from my phone and iPad. I've always been one to jot down little notes, and this type of program makes it far easier to do that and to use the search function to actually find info later. Of the many apps I've tried, Editorial has the best ability to grow with you, allowing you to use Markdown or MultiMarkdown, to control many settings, and my favorite, to have Markdown headings work as an interactive table of contents. As a graduate student, I write long essays in here, so having an easy way to jump between sections is golden. Before Editorial, I always hemmed and hawed when recommending similar apps to people, since I was never fully satisfied—one app would always have a feature another didn't. But now I happily just recommend this one. My only suggestion for an improvement would be that the new "@done" strikethrough work in the Markdown mode as well as the TaskPaper one, but that's an extremely minor wish.

Best iOS app ever. Can't even begin to say how important this app is to my work. Can do literally anything you can think of doing with text/documents, and with x-callback-url support, it's become the command center of my iPad, jumping from this app to the other with a single keyboard shortcut (that I create myself!), sending text hither and yon, it's ridiculous. New TaskPaper support is great, don't have to use the cumbersome TaskPaper app anymore, thank God. One glitch that's currently in there, one-line pop up text dialogs don't bring the cursor focus to them, so I have to use my finger to focus into them after they've popped up. Sure this will be fixed soon. Thanks Ole, you are a genius.

Great!. This is the best there is and well worth the price. Even if you're looking for a simple note taking app, this serves that purpose better than the many I've tried. It has every important feature of all other text editor and note apps combined... One cool thing is with Dropbox it keeps a recorded history of text files just like Simplenote. It's extremely customizable and very easy to use.

No More Wasting Money on Text Editors. I've probably purchased more text editor apps than anyone else who didn't buy them specifically to write comparison articles, and it's been one of the most frustrating iOS experiences I've had. I'm not picky—I just wanted a few specific features: 1. Automatic Dropbox sync. 2. Spell check. 3. Syntax highlighting (HTML/Markdown). 4. Preview with custom CSS. 5. Markdown to HTML export (preferably customizable). You'd think these wouldn't be too much to ask for, but you'd be wrong. Several apps I found could do three or four of these, but Editorial is the first one I've found that didn't make me wish I could get my money back. I was prepared to settle when I finally found a truly functional text editor, so I was delighted when I dove in and discovered everything Editorial can do. The UI is both streamlined and comprehensive, the browser is brilliant, and the whole app is a lesson in ergonomics a good many developers could stand to emulate.

Amazing!. This app has been blowing my mind since I first downloaded it a few months ago. The capabilities are just amazing. It seems like there's nothing that you can't do with test when using this app. It's truly amazing. Once you learn a little bit of markdown, you can post photos to your blog using plain text, you can automatically send formatted emails, you can create markdown formatting with a tap. There is so much potential that I haven't explored in the. 1.0 release and now 1.1 is out with even more capability. Amazing! I've been wanting to learn Python for a couple years and now I have the motivation to do it. I'll be able to use my new Python skills to do useful things with my iPad and not just make little games on hue he PC like all the books show you. This is such a great app and now available on the iPhone. Amazing! Update: I've learned a little bit of Python now and I'm able to pull information from contacts to send emails automatically, sort lists of data and more! Such a great app!

Cant rename folders. Missing basic functionality. Import from icloud would be a major plus. Renaming folders is basic basic basic And missing from Editorial

Abandoned. It was a great app. A pity it was abandoned.

Supports for keyboard FTW!. The entire Editorial Application is well thought out. It is perhaps my first to-go editor for any kind of research and writing. It is really nice to know that they have good keyboard support as well, once you've connected your bluetooth keyboard, it's a breeze to navigate around the application. I believe this application will evolve and become the de facto writer's application for both script writers and researchers. Would LOVE to see some latex actions here, and more MMD support with pictures etc. Keep up the good work!

Awesome piece of productivity software. Editorial has a great set of features, and lots of polish and thoughtful additions. The Dropbox sync has worked perfectly so far, and the editing experience is superb. Managing files seems a little bit sluggish and my previous editor started up a bit faster, but it's really quick and easy to move the cursor around. (Although I did wish that the cursor would go to the previous or next line when swiping if the cursor starts at the beginning or end of a line) The bookmarks bar is quite useful, and there is so much in the app that is customizable.

Best in class text editor. I'm late to editorial. I've tried a ton of text editors on my iPhone, but none were as powerful or as fun to use as this one. I'm blown away. Now, I'm looking for a Mac text editor that does everything that editorial does. And I can't find one. An iOS app is better than anything comparable on OSX. The workflows are amazing. I don't know any Python but by cribbing from other people's workflows I've created some great custom tools that make my iOS writing so much faster. I do wish the app had better fountain syntax highlighting (inline notes aren't differentiated from text) but that is a minor niggle from an awesome app. I don't write many reviews for apps, but this one inspired me. Great work!!!

Plain text. I only use this for plain text. Word processor apps are few. Most have bad ratings, even the one created by Apple. This one had 4.5 out of 5 stars based on over 100 ratings, so I paid the 5 bucks and downloaded it. I typed a portion of my manuscript to discover that after I make changes to my writing, the app deletes the new changes and reverts to the original text. It also mixes copies of paragraphs around. I scrolled to the top only to find a passage from the middle, copied and pasted at the top. I am convinced that nobody can make a simple word processor app for a tablet. Nope, can't be done. -I am revising this review. Since I am only using a fraction of its capability, it would be unfair to give it a two star rating. I really like the statistics function. I also use the dropbox app. Editorial is the best 'word' app available. It works very well for an app.

Not what I expected. Extremely tricky to use. I couldn’t find an undo or alphabetize, or many other editorial abilities they claimed were there.

Editorial App Customer Service, Editor Notes:

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon. • Added support for the iPhone X with its native resolution. • Changed toolbar color in the preview/accessory panel – this makes it easier to distinguish the preview from the editor. • Improved performance for switching between dark and light mode. • The accessory panel (preview, in-app browser...) uses the same tab bar UI on iPhone and iPad now. • Removed support for the public workflow directory. Your shared workflows will remain online for the foreseeable future, but the directory will soon become read-only. You can still share workflows using the "Copy Workflow" feature, of course, which is more flexible anyway, as it allows you to put your workflows in any plain text file. • Fixed an issue with explanatory text in the settings being displayed incorrectly (particularly on small screens). • Fixed footnote navigation in Markdown preview. • Fixed table view actions not being executed in "Custom UI" workflow actions. • Fixed a few issues with inline boneyard in Fountain documents.
