DuckDuckGo Private Browser App Reviews
DuckDuckGo Private Browser App Description & Overview
What is duckduckgo private browser app? The DuckDuckGo app provides the most comprehensive online privacy protection with the push of a button. With one free download, you get an everyday private Internet browser that offers seamless protection while you search and browse, and even access to tracking protection for emails you receive.
Protecting your privacy online is like protecting your home. Locking the front door won’t stop the most determined folks from getting inside, especially if you’ve left the back door and windows unlocked and an extra key under the doormat. That’s why we offer multiple types of privacy protection, most of which aren’t offered in most popular browsers by default.
FEATURE HIGHLIGHTS
• Search Privately by Default - DuckDuckGo Private Search comes built-in, so you can easily search the web without being tracked.
• Block Tracking Cookies While Browsing - Prevent most 3rd-party Internet cookies from tracking you as you browse online.
• Escape Website Trackers Before They Load - Automatically stop most hidden trackers (3rd-party scripts) from loading, which prevents companies from collecting and using any personal data from these trackers. Stay secure with our cutting-edge tracker-blocking technology – 3rd-Party Tracker Loading Protection, which goes above and beyond what you get in most popular web browsers by default.
• Automatically Enforce Encryption - Force many sites you visit to automatically use an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, which helps shield your data from Wi-Fi snoopers and network onlookers like your Internet provider.
• Block Email Trackers (Beta) - Over 85% of emails sent to Duck Addresses (@duck.com) contain trackers that can detect when you’ve opened a message, where you were when you opened it, and what device you were using. Email Protection makes it easy to block most email trackers and hide your existing address when signing up for things online, all without switching email providers.
• Escape Fingerprinting - Help stop companies from creating a unique identifier for you by blocking their attempts to combine specific information about your web browser and device settings.
We feature many protections not available on most Internet browsers (even incognito browsers), including protection from link tracking, Google AMP tracking, and more.
EVERYDAY PRIVACY CONTROLS
• Tap Fire Button, Burn Data - Clear your tabs and browsing data fast with our Fire Button.
• Signal Your Privacy Preference with Global Privacy Control (GPC) - Built in to our app, GPC intends to help you express your opt-out rights automatically by telling websites not to sell or share your personal information. Whether it can be used to enforce your legal rights (for example, current or future CCPA, GDPR requirements) depends on the laws in your jurisdiction.
Note about our 3rd-Party Tracker Loading Protection following DuckDuckGo ad clicks: Our 3rd-Party Tracker Protection goes above and beyond what you get in most popular browsers by default, but we’re constantly working to make it more comprehensive. Currently, if an advertiser wants to detect conversions on their own website for our private DuckDuckGo search ads, our 3rd-Party Tracker Loading Protection will not stop bat.bing.com requests from loading on the advertiser’s website following DuckDuckGo ad clicks, but those requests are stopped in all other contexts. This is because DuckDuckGo private search advertising is in partnership with Microsoft. As part of that partnership, viewing ads on DuckDuckGo is anonymous and Microsoft has committed to not profile our users’ ad clicks.

The best iOS browser for my needs.. Apple, I can’t believe it! I wrote a review and saved it. I then accidentally touched the star rating and discovered that that erased my review!!!! Seriously? Duckduckgo’s search file result handling is the best and most intelligent of all iOS browsers I’ve found. I tried Firehand, Kobe, Aloha (which is exactly what I did with it), Safari, etc. So many browsers copy Safari and the frustrating and inferior split screen design. The one thing I’d like to see changed is viewing the output of a file search for images when you select View File. That you would be to be able to swipe laterally and still to be able to navigate through the image search output without having to exit View File to do that. PS - I almost forgot. Thank you for displaying the image files resolution so you don’t waste your time opening low resolution images! 👍
So Far So Great. I made DDG the default browser and search engine on my iphone...at least I think I did. I get confused about the browser vs search tool concept but that's me, no fault of DDG. Also I get confused about what browser is open when I've owned a browser. Is there even a way to tell what browser we're in while in a browser....always confusing to me. Anyway....I digress... I'm particularly enjoying the DDG search tool widget I managed to add to my iphone's icons/buttons. Two of the three designs let us add icons/buttons to our fave web links. Helps speed up getting to links instead of needing to scroll through a menu. Would be ideal if there were a two-row DDG search tool widget for placing two rows of our favorite link icons into....but I'm being fussy. Also made DDG my default search tool on my PC. I don't think I found a DDG browser for computers....but I may be wrong...again, I'm confused.
Absolutely Wonderful IOS Browser (and search engine). I have used DuckDuckGo as my default search engine in Safari on my Mac and my iPhone for a couple of years now. Don’t like Google knowing so much about me. It started out being OK but his steadily improved over the two years and now I can hardly tell the difference when I compare it to the Google search engine. Just started using the DuckDuckGo privacy browser on my iPhone a few days ago. It is excellent. Great browsing experience and great privacy. Touch one icon in the browser and your whole history instantly disappears. This requires going through menus in Settings in iOS Safari. And the built ad blocker is superb. Highly recommend the DuckDuckGo iOS privacy browser and the DuckDuckGo search engine for your Mac. I have tried other privacy browsers in the App Store and DuckDuckGo is the best. Couldn’t be happier. My only complaint. I wish DuckDuckGo made a privacy browser for the Mac.
BEST BROWSER!. DuckDuckGo is the best browser I have seen since i have been using Google. I have been using google for 5 years and have been enjoying it UNTIL I saw what Google actually does in the background. I freaked out and was telling everybody about it. I was in the app store when i searched for "secure browser" and the first thing to pop up was "DuckDuckGo, secure browser". I clicked on it and saw the reviews and downloaded it right away, and it was so worth it! When i first opened the app, i went to my favorite website and DuckDuckGo showed me how unsecure it really was. DuckDuckGo has a simple and effective browser layout which is simple to navigate. I tried the fire icon and DuckDuckGo completley erased the browsing history and was amazing! I have completley deleted Google Chrome and this app is my main browser now. If you need a browser for anything, use DuckDuckGo, It wont let you down!
Wonderful. Yes, I like the privacy aspects of Duck Duck Go - it’s the main reason why I use the app (and have it as my primary search function on all my other devices/Internet). What I want to talk about is the app/widget on iOS devices. The app is wonderful. I like that I can reorder tabs (after seeing them as little cards vs. teeny tiny status bars. I like that with one touch of one button, everything is gone, the browser is clear. So satisfying, watching that “flame” rise to the top. Overall, using the app is a wonderful experience. But my absolute favorite thing/response is when I tap on the widget I’ve put on the Home Screen of my iPhone. You see, usually, 99.9% of the time, I open an internet browser app to conduct a search. This widget opens the app with the cursor already in the search bar and the keyboard all ready to go! No having to tap anywhere to get the keyboard. Oh, and it’s already opened to a new tab, I’m not overwriting a tab I’ve already used. For me, this time saving convenience is like frosting on the cake. So thanks for this app & widget, Duck Duck Go developers. I really appreciate the whole thing - privacy to convenience. Overall, the privacy aspect is awesome and really, that’s the bottom line. It’s that good. I recommend this to anyone who will listen.
Privacy is a top priority. I don’t wright reviews but I really like this even thought I don’t really have anything to hide I think that if we don’t show these companies that we care about are privacy we will live in future/society we’re ads and tracks haunt us all and influence use. Which is why I really recommend this app it doesn’t track you, it block/prevents trackers from tracking you, doesn’t have a filter bubble that gives you customized results kinda like propaganda and discrimination and lastly it gives helpful tips to keep your privacy in check. If it weren’t for DuckDuckGo I would have never know that the share my location setting doesn’t work most of the time. You might be think how does DuckDuckGo make money the way do that is from affiliate links basically when you buy something online in DuckDuckGo some of that money goes DuckDuckGo I hole that this has convinced you to try out DuckDuckGo and thanks for reading this long.
Almost perfect. I love this app and am very thankful that its available. My only complaint is that I often get lost in a loop of new tabs when trying to access my open tabs. At the bottom right of the app there is a small square with the number of existing tabs. 1/2 the time when I touch the tab number box it opens a new tab. If it only happened once I would not even mention it but it happens 5-6 times in a row before I finally get a chance to delete all the new tabs I have opened. Inevitably I hit above the X when trying to close one of the inadvertant new tabs and the cycle starts over when I try to hit the tab number box again. I love the app so much I just deal with it but man it would be nice if this issue could be fixed Update: The developer contacted me to let me know that the discussed bug above is actually a sneaky shortcut and is supposed to work this way. Though I appreciate the developer responding to me I cannot change my feelings toward this functionality. It is only supposed to create a new tab when you hold it down. I have this happen with a single tap all the time. Sometimes 4-5 times in a row. It is a time waster and annoying for me but I do not mean to sound ungrateful, I love this app and I love Duck Duck Go for their privacy policy. Thanks for getting back to me
Loving it. I like Duck Duck Go because I like my privacy. I really don’t like thinking about the creeps that may hack into my life. Anyone that tracks me on the internet can’t be good for me. I just can’t imagine why people would want to see what I’m doing. I’m just an ordinary person doing what most people do. I also hate to think that advertising might avoid me merely because their program doesn’t include people like me. Isn’t that like racism? I change a lot because I like variety, without the ad, I probably won’t know about the product and so I will not buy it or suggest it to someone that my all powerful brain decides is appropriate. I don’t want to be overwhelmed with ads, please change them for variety. If I search for something, I may be looking for an ad, but not too many. I think I’d rather have untargeted ads so I know what is available. Sometimes, I really don’t want any ads. If I have money, I don’t mind paying to turn them off. But don’t charge me and advertise, that’s probably taking advantage of me. Unless the charge is small, more to deter waste than for profit. Thanks Lydia
Far too few people use the best browser available.. “Far too few” really means “not enough” to be sure. I rarely endorse apps and even more rare is an endorsement I make for a tech/IT/web product. I clearly and vehemently can make a case for every internet traveler to want -nay NEED to use this browser. Yes, I assume that everyone needs (and wants) to protect their privacy when on the web. I don’t think that’s a far-fetched assumption to make. I’ve used this browser quite a bit now and after previous frustrating attempts to enhance my privacy by using other, more popular browsers’ cumbersome privacy settings, can readily say that DuckDuckGo’s offering is the most intuitive, well laid out, and quick browser I’ve used in the over 25 years I’ve been an IT professional. The browser has an almost minimalist look and feel. That doesn’t mean that it is without varied features tried-and-true and some I wished I’d had long ago. I will be installing DuckDuckGo‘s browser on production machines at the office and clients as well. (After I verify any legality issues ($) therein of course) Thanks DuckDuckGo -jbl
Great So Far. Summary: DuckDuckGo has an excellent search algorithm from what I can tell. It is fast, efficient, friendly and helpful. It doesn’t track my searches for someone else for study or profit. Detailed Explanation: I started using DuckDuckGo earlier this year (2020). I highly recommend it for the following reasons. 1) While I have not tested all of the privacy features, based upon the original recommendation given to me to use DuckDuckGo, I like not being tracked for someone else’s Data Analytics exercise, especially for free to them. 2) It’s performed my desired searches well: standard, suggested, alternative completions are given, which have helped me occasionally refine my search string or phrase. The hits are mostly “dead on,” giving me the wanted content; yes, some alternatives may not be what I am desiring. However, that is the contextual nature of knowledge often, and the problem of searching in general: refinement & convergence ability. Extra Info./Suggestions: iPhone & iPad tested — On my iOS enabled devices’ main options bar, I swapped out the Safari icon with DuckDuckGo—that’s how much I like it! I put Safari on the home screen, if I ever need it. My Mac also has DuckDuckGo installed on it as the default search engine, which is where I first installed DuckDuckGo after using it on a PC at work.
Better than Google!. Ok, that’s subjective. There’s pros and cons to each search engine; the major drawback of Google, for me anyway, is that everything is tracked everywhere. They’re constantly collecting information about you and building a profile on you. I’m not paranoid about privacy or anything, but keep in mind, Google isn’t your product, you’re their product, and you’re sold to advertisers. I already use Facebook and Twitter so I’m still tracked, but cutting Google out of that equation gives me a bit of peace of mind. As consumers, we should not be okay with constantly being tracked... do your self a favor and replace Google with DuckDuckGo. The only feedback I have for the devs is to make the keyboard pop up as the app is opened. Why click inside the search bar to bring up the keyboard? The whole reason for opening the app is to start typing something, and therefore the keyboard should already be present. If you must insist on keeping it the way it is, at the least, you can place the search bar in the center so it then becomes a one-handed operation. That’s my only minor complaint.
Great with One Weakness. I genuinely enjoy using DuckDuckGo. The default search engine is comparable to Google, and while I’m in a weird stage where I can’t afford a VPN it’s nice to have a browser that makes me feel at least somewhat protected while using the Internet and it is easy to use if you’re already familiar with Safari or other existing mobile browsing apps. It does have one downside however. There’s no pop-up blocking functionality at all, or at least not one that I’ve been able to easily find after a year of using the app, and it’s kind of disappointing because there’s not a way to add extensions and some apps have pop ups that I don’t know about and there’s nothing I can do to stop that. Since DuckDuckGo is so privacy focused it would be nice if the app had features to protect me from malicious pop-ups. If it does exist and I don’t know about it after combing the settings, they should definitely do something to make it more easily accessible by the user.
Just Duck It! Good riddance Google you won’t be missed!. I’m so happy to get Google and Facebook out of my life once and for good. It’s like quitting smoking. You feel so much better after doing so. DDG is a breath of fresh air. I fully stand by companies that are for the people in helping the fight to restore our privacy and rights. Which is getting to be a bigger concern as technology is moving forward. We all live in the Information Age and we need to protect it. Hope to see more companies stepping up like DDG is. With all that said, I would like to see optimizations made to take full support of the bigger screen on the iPhone XS Max. I’ve told all my friends and family about DDG and they all love it. The interface is extremely clean, sleek and sexyyyyy! It even has dark mode that you can choose under themes and you can pretty much customize the overall look and feel of it also! Love that feature.
iPhone 13 controls everything I do with this app.. If I try to upload an image into Google Images with this browser, my iPhone 13 intervenes and prevents me from doing so. A message window opens and stays “Would you like to leave DuckDuckGo to view this content?” To answer, I’m given 2 option buttons to tap, CANCEL and OPEN. If I tap open, it takes me to the App Store to download Google. If I tap CANCEL, the screen goes blank momentarily, then the same message window reappears, again Ana again, over and over. It is impossible to stop this from happening, and I cannot find any setting within the app to prevent it. I’ve given up. No matter what I do with this app, my iPhone 13 knows what I’m doing and at any time it can stop me from doing what I’m attempting to do. Oddly enough when using my older iPad I can upload images to Google Images and the iPad does not interfere. I’m stumped. I have no idea what the problem is with my iPhone 13 and the DuckDuckGo app, but it is very frustrating. Can anyone help?
Great on iPad, OK on iPhone. I recently got an iPad and am really liking this browser. I had been using it for iPhone and thought its privacy features outweighed other shortcomings (such as weirdly delayed URL bar auto-select behavior that constantly made me overwrite its contents when I typed), just enough to make me continue using it. For iPad, the widgets are really helpful: Apple(Safari)’s top-level app icons for web sites only make sense for a very select few sites; DuckDuckGo’s widget properly bundles icons into a compact display of your favorites, along with a search bar. My only wish is there could be some way to group tabs for easier browsing. For example, if I have 6 tabs open with product pages for light fixtures (from sites A and B), and 8 tabs open for mattresses (also from sites A and B), I want to be able to flip between those groups easily based on my own criteria (e.g. “mattresses” vs. “light fixtures”, or “site A” vs. “site B”). I quickly get overwhelmed scrolling tabs horizontally on the iPad, since the title text is truncated and I can’t tell which is which.
DuckDuckOuch, told ya to duck!. You thought you could just surf all you want and nobody would know. You sneak off to sites in the 4 corners of the globe, just where you should not be seen publicly! You were caught sleuthing where your girl/boyfriend told you not to go! Just had to go there, didn’t you? Now turn around and say, “Thank you, GOOGLE!” You have been betrayed! Now you have all those pop ups and unwanted emails. Serves ya right. Should have gone with DUCKDUCKGO from the beginning. No blood trail for anyone to follow! DDG says you surf without a leash, then there is no leash. Your privacy is especially important to you and equally important to DDG in helping you keep it that way. They help ensure your privacy remains private. Yes, a bit getting used to at first, but when you realize GOOGLE had you on a leash, you’ll happily turn to DDG. DDG is my go to for all things personal and private.
Missing one thing.... I like it. I’m concerned about privacy, and DDG seems to be great. I use different browser for different purposes, and DDG is my general use one. I just wish it had a setting like Safari where you can turn on the option to automatically request desktop sites all the time, which is the only reason I’m looking to try a different browser for my general use purposes. Update: Compared to Google, the search results kinda stink; price to pay to an extent leaving Google’s model of making us their product for financial gain, but DDG still returns good results, just doesn’t hold a candle to Google’s search abilities. Never using another Google device ever again if I don’t have to. Safe search settings continuously reset. Could use settings to close all tabs when closing the app without clearing anything else. Love the quick fire at the bottom and the ability to choose tiled tabs or compact list of tabs.
Did a little comparison testing!. I put in a few different political questions and searches on both Google and Duck Duck Go, Articles and videos galore showed up on Duck Duck Go where Google pretty much decided the world really doesn’t need to know all about true Election statistics apparently unless it’s coming from their “trusted sites”. In other words, unless it comes from their politically biased news sites and pollsters. Do your own research! And use this app! I’ve changed my Safari to Duck Duck Go also unless I’m curious about whether Google shows the same unbiased info. The answer is almost always NO, they show complete opposite leaning to the left info. Stop giving these radical companies like “Google” “Twitter” and “Facebook” your downloads and essentially making them richer while they censor the voices of all countries of the world, not just the United States!
Want some Privacy?. So, a few years back I spotted this on a family members laptop. Being curious I asked what was up with the duck. I was then informed that it doesn’t track us, and my intrigue was peaked. Once I downloaded it I noticed something absolutely remarkable: Google not only tracks us, which we all know, but it also specifically hides certain results. I won’t get into the nitty gritty of it, but know that if you want accurate information and true privacy and security: DuckDuckGo is the best way to go for search engines. One of my favorite features is the fact I can burn everything when I’m done, which I do regardless of what I search for. Tired of those ads that you get based on your searches? Want some Privacy? Download DuckDuckGo and save yourself the headache of worrying about it. For added security, check out Proton mail, which follows the same ideology but for you email.
It’s great. I’ve recently switched from google to DuckDuckGo and I’ve gotta say it’s improved so much since I first used it several years ago. The reason it has 4 stars instead of 5 is that it could use a lot of features present in other search engines like google. Features at the top of my list as most desired are: —Translate pages (make it available EVERYWHERE please!) —Ability to customize fonts (I don’t have the best vision so being able to customize the fonts on all sites across the web would be immensely helpful.) —Be able to swipe up to get rid of the search bar (I know you can just scroll down to get rid of it however sometimes I don’t have enough space to and giving us the option to swipe up would be great.) —Make changing the theme permanent ( I don’t know if everyone has this problem but my device has the dark/light theme switch each day and night and it changes for DuckDuckGo as well. However, I don’t want a dark theme when browsing so I disable it but it always seems to be back every time and I don’t know how to permanently get rid of it. —When closing tabs, make it less glitchy (whenever I quickly swipe a tab closed it glitches a little before leaving so I hope that can be smoothed out a bit.) I’ll be sure to change my review to 5 stars once these are addressed, thanks!
Could be my main browser, but…. This app is really nice and I feel very safe while using it. The setup is laid back and easy to use. Some features I find really enjoyable is when you visit a site it shows how many trackers were deterred and clearing tabs and data is super easy. If you are looking for something to make you feel safe and secure while browsing, this app is for you. The only thing I dislike is this app will ask you to make DuckDuckGo your main browser on iOS, but it will not let you download a PDF and various other files nor does it give the option to save anything to files or iCloud. If you want something to be your main browser but won’t be ok with it not downloading certain files, saving to a cloud, or remembering usernames, passwords and so on… This app is not for you. This app is good for those ducks who go, go, go while staying under the tracker’s radar, but not good for those ducks wanting to settle in, do their main functions while staying under the radar.
Hate new minimized grid!. July 21, 2020 UPDATE: Thank you for putting back in the option for viewing tabs!! Much better on the eyes. Only thing I noticed now is that the tabs all look alike except maybe a small icon on the left. Before I could tell what the site was by the coloration or other distinguishing features. Now I have to go slower and stop and look. If you can make the left icon bigger/ more distinct or incorporate easy to see color banners (whatever) that can allow you to recognize the site it would be very helpful. Also with the new grid ‘box’ tabs I found it very easy to accidently delete a tab when scrolling. . I couldn’t see a way to reverse it. But I have to tell you - you were amazingly quick at addressing the issue. Bravo!!! Now if only AAA understood that I would reinstall their auto app...... =============================== OMG! When I minimized a page before I could easily scroll through the other pages to get to another tab as the tab heading was easy to see and narrow (top to bottom). NOW I see these big fat boxes that are side by side and I can’t just scroll down I always have to look left and right as well. It really bothers my eyes and slows me down. Ugh. It is MUCH more difficult now, not in any way easier. But this is an easy fix! Give people the option in settings to choose the layout!!! And for goodness sake please do it quickly! Thanks.
I want to like it. I really do. I’ve been using it for several months now. Unfortunately I am just about at my wits end. Every single solitary page I ever load ever ever ever refreshes after 30 to 60 seconds. Maybe I could handle a refresh after one or two seconds but I will be halfway through logging into something or making a post and Bam it refreshes me and I have to start over. If I were just casually reading different websites maybe it wouldn’t be a big deal but I can’t tell you how many hundreds of forms I’ve had to fill out at least two and sometimes three or four times. Just load the stupid page! I have about learned that I have to wait a good while after every page I load to make sure that it’s not going to refresh me. I get that maybe you’re blocking cookies are trackers and maybe that’s why but it’s extremely annoying to have to start over whatever I’m doing EVERY SINGLE TIME. Also “feature” or not I really really really hate that “new tab” button. I accidentally hit it multiple times a day. I also don’t like not having a good history back button. Sometimes I lose a page and then I can never go back to where I was and I have to start my searches all over again.
For those who want privacy above all else. I will be honest. I tried DuckDuckGo search many times and always seemed to go back to google. Then recently I start doing research into data privacy (or lack there of) and realized just what is happening behind the scenes when you visit websites. So I made the decision to try DuckDuckGo again, this time with privacy as the focus. Come to find out that’s all I needed. This company is dedicated to changing the way your data is managed and I’m loving it. Skip ahead to downloading this app and the transition from Firefox was a breeze. This browser catches so much I didn’t even know existed on the sites I regularly visit. It’s simple and easy to use and I’m sure it’s only going to get better with time. Take back your privacy and give it a chance. You won’t regret it.
Privacy metrics are great!. I’ve been blind for a couple years. I’ve been writing and reporting bad political decisions cents 2015. I’ve been doing this on Facebook. Since I’m blind, I use things like voice to text. I was using the Facebook application on my Apple iPhone. My actual texts were being partially deleted while I was editing voice mistakes. I could be working on the first line and part of the third line with disappear, sometimes specific words for disappear making the sentence look or cost me to look ignorant or foolish. I start using DuckDuckGo and the problem My actual texts were being partially deleted while I was editing voice mistakes. I could be working on the first line and part of the third line with disappear, sometimes specific words for disappear making the sentence look or cost me to look ignorant or foolish. I deleted the Facebook app and start using DuckDuckGo and the problem completely disappeared.
Identity theft and fraud. There should be a way to talk to someone in person over the phone regarding serious issues regarding identity theft and fraud. This may not be the appropriate space to air my concerns with my identity being stolen and used by my ex husband however, my almost 2 year struggle trying to get someone to do something regarding the theft of ALL of my information and the restrictions that he placed on me on my own accounts and devices has to do with restrictions regarding children because he took ownership of my accounts and emails and listed me as a child to restrict my ability to us my accounts freely. He also created fake business accounts using my identity and placed MDM apps to restrict me further! This “review” in one of MANY ways I’ve tried to have some movement on the security powers that be to investigate this crime and stop this from happening.
Good, could use more features. I want to start off by saying this browser is the best single browser I’ve found for the iPad. The bar at the top with buttons and the search bar doesn’t take up a lot of space, and the desktop mode always works well, unlike with Safari. The browser looks nice and is quick. There are two features I feel that are missing, one necessity and one nice to have. First - the reason this review doesn’t have 4 stars - I cant set DuckDuckGo as the default for opening hyperlinks on my iPad. When I click a link in my email and a box shows up it only gives me the choice of safari or chrome, and I don’t even have chrome installed. If and when DuckDuckGo can be set as a default for this, I will update this review to 4 stars gladly. Aside from that, the only feature I feel this browser is missing from pushing it to perfection is some easy gesture based system of switching tabs. The button in the bottom right hand corner is fine and logical, but some more touch friendly and quicker way to switch tabs would make this browser much better. That’s it. If it gets those two features it would be perfect and I would update this review to 5 stars.
Browser keeps going to blank!. I’m really struggling to work with this browser. Fast, yes, when it loads the desired page(s). But I’d say 1/2 of the time I’ve been on it the page loads to blank. Or, even worse, I’m in the middle of an extended search, moving thru various pages and all of a sudden I end up with that darn blank page AND if I go back ALL of my previous pages are now blank as well. ‘Sometimes’ if I close the browser and go back the page reloads, refresh does not do the trick. But, who wants to put up with this? It’s the most infuriating situation when this occurs and it’s happened to me now on way too many occasions. I looked thru the page on how to “send feedback” but did not see DuckDuckGo Mobil listed within those items. I’m beyond frustrated with this browser😩
10+Yrs & Still No Basic “NIGHT or READER MODE”. ….FOR THOSE OF US WITH VISION PROBLEMS. Why is it that nearly every other competing iOS browser offers the built-in WebKit night mode. You can simply copy it from Firefox iOS or even Brave, or a whole list of other browsers that have all shown that they truly care about their users, who suffer from any kind of visual impairment or disability. DDG I’ve been waiting for this basic feature/function as a day one user who installed you’re app the very first day that it was made available for the iPhone. Which is why I say that I’ve been waiting for over 10 years for you guys to please have some compassion and at least respond and explain yourself. Or maybe you have and you can simply point me to that information. Sorry, one last thing that I almost forgot; Apple’s iOS built in “smart invert“ does not function smoothly at all, and should not be what DuckDuckGo uses as an excuse to not add this very basic feature that nearly all other browsers already have. I’m not saying you have, but just in case.
Starting to feel better. I don’t like to be micromanaged, spied on, having my personal information sold or going to someone-some business-some political party without me knowing who it is. I recently heard about DuckDuckGo and the things they do to protect peoples privacy. I research the pros/cons and thought I’d give them a try. Within the first day of switching to them, I had several alerts. One warned me of a social media account that was trying to get my information that was hidden on a site I clicked on (wasn’t an extension either). Another alert let me know that by clicking on the site I was about to, it would automatically gain access to sensitive info. I’m loving this browser/search engine so far due to the privacy and actual heads up it gives me when something underhanded will be going down if I click on the site. Just after two days of using it, I’m starting to feel more relaxed, in control and wanting to know more. So far I truly DO recommend this product….and it’s free! Thank you DuckDuckGo! Keep up the amazing work. Hopefully we will be able to get our privacy back that has been stolen from us.
Overall Good. I like every thing that is provided, and I am glad that the app scans questionable websites to view and inform me of the privacy practices, this can prevent my history from being aggregated and save my device from potentially developing a malicious virus that could overtake my device. And it’s rather simple as well. But I have one complaint: I enjoy the fact that I can courageously venture into the deeper parts of the web to find information for essays, recreation etc., but I would prefer a feature that could be toggled in settings permitting the app to discourage and omit all inappropriate photographs, video, imagery, etc. In other words, I do not want pornographic images to seep into my searches with all the ambiguity in words these days. If you could design a feature to just that, it would be excellent. An even better idea, make the option to create a password as a requirement to turn off the filter, you know, just so that young children will not turn it off and encounter x-rated material. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
🤔 ???. Ok upon looking at many reviews on the best browser to use that was safe I downloaded 🦆🦆 Go, but lately I had something very not right going on When I tried to open facebook on the browser I got the message that I was not able to login due to logging in to fast 🤔 ?? Tried even going through bing through 🦆🦆 go and still couldn’t get in, but I tried a couple of other browsers that I have to use and had no problems logging in to my facebook account 🤔 ??? so that means it was the 🦆🦆 go browser that was the problem I just about deleted the app due the situation but I didn’t 🙄 so today I get the notice to update and so I did with no real care to use the app anymore Well I updated the app & now it’s working normally 🤔 ??? 1st thing that comes to mind when something like that happens is the app has been hacked and the hacker is messing around so then I just stop using whatever app it is and even delete them like I did with calendar 📆 So not sure what happened with the update, but I’ll put the app on parole for now and see if it stays working right or goes back to stopping me from accessing facebook again If it does then I’ll just copy my bookmarks then transfer them to a better browser then delete 🦆🦆 Go 🙄 weird how such a browser with good reviews is not making me feel safe using it So for now it’s rating is 3 🌟 that might change either way just going to see how it does from now on
More Online Choice. I’d heard about DuckDuckGo a few times, but not being very tech savvy, I didn’t know how or even why I should try it. After an unsuccessful search on a popular search engine already set on my phone, I looked up the DuckDuckGo app. and downloaded it to my phone. There is a tutorial that prompts you the first time you use it. I entered the topic I was trying to research. Oh my gosh, first there were three other companies trying to spy on my activities. Be informed people, it doesn’t matter how innocent your search is, people are watching where you go online. Then I was totally pleased with the new websites that were popping up suddenly. Choice. It’s about choice and receiving more information of different views. I’m a college graduate with 38 years of experience in my field. I know how to wade through documents and make an informed opinion. I’m loving this app.
Why this is the best search engine ..a tribute to freedom.. Our forefathers certainly had high hopes and aspirations in crafting our constitution and bill of rights etcetera. Once upon a time a guy I know (ahem) opened his computer to find that these two search engines changed all the filters...permanently. Welcome to the machine as the iconic band Pink Floyd put it. The accounts had always been forever mined for information so they could “bring relevant opportunities to me ...their beloved citizen”. My junk mail box swelled over the years while my inbox dwarfed in comparison. Turns out their oversight of my accounts led to all sorts of turmoil in my life..and it was all my fault? I had all the two factor identification everything and more. Their account agreement where they state it’s okay to share our information with their partners. Well the one of the partners was very careless.
Just a couple things to consider. Search engines notoriously have poor AI’s. And from my experience apparently some of them have no AI. Of course I guess that depends on your perspective. Nonetheless, from a user standpoint, if the search engine cannot understand common English punctuation usage nor discern that words inside quotes should be seen as phrases, “not separate words”; then there is room for improvement! The use of punctuation to define different parameters for a “search”, is in fact old school! It’s been around for a while. Unfortunately search engines for the Internet don’t seem to remember that. And many of us (your clients) have noticed. I can assure you, the first company that develops these capabilities, along with the security and privacy that DuckDuckGo offers (which I’m sure will continue to improve as the future unfolds), will find great success and popularity within the first week. So what if “a week” seems like a slow rise; especially if it leads to a loyal fan club that includes high numbers of subscribers. Also you get the privilege of getting a five star rating from me. 🛖 Get into your think tanks!
A simply private and elegant mobile experience. This app is just everything a mobile browser could need, and it only gets better with each update! First things first, this app looks like it was made with the mobile user in mind. One glance at the interface, and with a simple tutorial of just the most basic buttons, anyone could use this browser with ease. Not too many buttons to overwhelm the user, but not too few configurations to displease the power user. My favorite part of this privacy browser has to be the powerful flame which will wipe clean all the tabs that you may have open, allowing for you to start all over again with a new session full of your greatest searches. The latest update, as of this review, has added the feature to modify the splash effect of the flame to be a cooler “burn” effect. The developers are doing a great job maintaining this app with many great additions in each new release. Definitely an app for people who want peace of mind and privacy ensured with every search. Kudos to the team at DuckDuckGo for such an amazing app!
Duck Duck Go....Every Search = 💯. I find Duck Duck Go my #1 go to, for all of my Searches on the Internet! I get better results than any of the others! It’s better than Chrome, and the others out on the market. I Love that Duck Duck Go is Interactive. It’s also Fun, and when I say Fun, besides my Searches, I get jokes, less advertising ~ (Thank you for that) like who wants adverts, popping up when you’re only interested in what you’re Searching for, Correct? Well for myself, that’s high on my Priority list! I’ve at times, given Chrome 2nd & 3rd Chances, but I’ve always been let down! Therefore Duck Duck Go, is what I’ll always use. Even the updates are Real Updates, always something useful and exciting! I’m giving it the most stars allowed, because the Developers deserve only the Best, since they provide me with the BEST! 💞
Thanks for your years of dedication!. RE:Updated Second Review. I love DuckDuckGo & have been with you guys from day one. I just wanted to stop in to say thank you again for many years of safe web browsing on mine & my family's Apple mobile & computer home devices. As a loyal user of DuckDuckGo, my dedication to this browser naturally trickled down to my adult tech professional children, my grandchildren & many friends. That says a lot about your integrity & continued foresight in maintaining the upmost safe web browsing practices. Simply put, no one does it better. The best to all of you at DuckDuckGo going forward in, Sincerely, CSJ Old Review: I love you guys and have for as long as I can remember (13 years). I keep spreading the word to family members, friends and beyond. Now they have also been spreading the word about DuckDuckGo. It’s been a joy to see you evolve and continue to dedicate yourselves by elevating the user experience to a such more enjoyable secure level. How do I thank thee? Finally, to see your team get the due respect amongst the dinosaurs of browsers, is truly satisfying. With the increased choices & options by adding you to all my Apple devices is so pleasing to myself and others. Just shows you that a company like Apple trusts you to be on there devices says something. Congratulations! CJ
The Full Internet .. Once upon a time, the internet was a place for free thoughts, no matter what they were. You could search the internet and get all results. You could make up your own mind and decide which of the results of your search were good or bad. You could think for yourself. Then this insidious company named google ,decided that you weren’t smart enough to decide which search results were what you wanted. So this evil company said,” We know better than everyone else and we will only return search results that they approve of or have been paid for.” All other information that’s out there is irrelevant and they can’t read others opinions unless we say that it’s ok. If you are a free thinker and don’t want to be told what you should think, read, know and want to see all and decide for yourself, Delete google as a search engine and use Duck Duck Go. Your search will return all of the internet, not just what an evil company wants you to read.
It keeps crashing or something.... I love the duck duck go app! It’s good with privacy and doesn’t track you like google etc. One problem though is that so I’ll download it for example and through the whole day it I can use it, but the next day I lock on it and the loading screen comes up for about 10 seconds and then it backs out of the app no matter how many times I try and it’s like as if it were kicking me off of the app and it’s really annoying. I even restarted my phone and it didn’t let me on so I had to re-install it and thankfully it worked but it then comes back, and I have to go through the whole app introducing itself again. Eventually I got so sick and tired of re-installing the app that I wanted to stop using it but I like how the app works and instead of it going back to the home-screen it saves what you had on last when you get on again, and that’s another thing that I like about it. Please duck duck go fix this I hate uninstalling and then re-installing it again. But in it’s a good app! 👍 I really recommend it!
They’re downranking sites based on their feelings. Sadly, DDG has decided to downrank sites based on “disinformation” which we all know is define by companies that jump on board as anything they FEEL doesn’t match up to the lying news. They’ve lied to Americans for decades and yet, people don’t learn. Now, a once trusted site and company has decided to do the same. Whatever they decide is dis or misinformation, they don’t trust you and have to add their two cents in to control what you see. Propaganda much? They believe what they think is correct and you’re too dumb to see through lies and so they must control your searches to keep you in check with what they want you to see. In the trash goes this app as well as their search engine. Everyone should be wanting privacy but also to find and use companies that do not insert their politics nor feelings into everything. Maybe DDG will change their minds and stay neutral. Companies never learn their lesson though. DDG claims they’re not going political but then says they downgrade sites of lower quality? LOL That’s their excuse of removing whatever they choose is “disinformation”. This is a joke.
Censorship. I have been extremely happy with DDG, but now I just found out that they have started down ranking sites solely because they deem them “misinformation”. I am perfectly capable of reading an article and deciding for myself if they are lying to me not, and I do not my browser to do that for me. Just show me the results that most closely match the words in my search and keep your opinion on if something is misinformation or not out of the equation. They were also accused of discriminatory hiring practices, but from what I can see they never responded to say if that was misinformation or not. So, you guys want to decide what is or isn’t “misinformation” on the internet, but then someone accuses you of discrimination and you won’t even respond? Why didn’t you come out and say the accusation was misinformation? Makes me think it could be true if you aren’t denying it happened. I’m going to try Brave Privacy Browser, I haven’t heard anything bad about them yet. How many users will you need to lose before you stop censoring information?
Pls bring the old way of putting bookmark and favorite. I like this app a lot and have been using it for a long time. The app is good, convenient and much better then in-phone apps like safari or google. However this recent update on bookmark and favorite has destroyed their convenience. I think it’s better if it was like before where a person can press bookmark, favorite, or both if they want to pick either way or both. The new update where I can favorite a website and it bookmark while I can bookmark and it don’t favorite doesn’t seem to work and every time I had to delete favorite website I also had to go to bookmark to delete it too. It consumes too much time especially for someone like me who has a lot of bookmarks and favorite websites and visits them everyday multiple times so pls bring back the old way of bookmarking and favoriting websites. Thank You
I love you for protecting my privacy. I must say the assurances I receive from Duck Duck have been proven to be correct. I know this as a matter of fact because Duck Duck advises me who attempted to view my web requests. Every web site I look for is above board. I am proud of what I look for but just knowing that Duck Duck is protecting Me, unlike Google, who happens to want to know everything I once looked for on there search engine. I only wish that Duck Duck allowed me to speak my request rather than having to type it. I have concluded that Duck Duck hasn’t any Control of who runs the Microphones on these smartphones, tablets, and your laptop or desktop. Therefore, They cannot protect My privacy. Every one is entitled to their views and opinions and no one needs to know what you are looking for. I, wholeheartedly, with confidence ask everyone to try Duck Duck. They will inform you who wants to know what you’re entitled to keep private. I respect their respect to their users. Thanks for reading my review but Duck Duck cannot help you until You use it. It will answer your request as any other search engine. That is to say Google,Safari, AOL, Bing, and others I cannot name at this moment. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to one and All. God Bless My World and All readers. Try Duck Duck. Nothing will change, what You seek will be readily available to You. An extremely happy person while seeking answers to my many requests. Fred
DuckDuck is not a safe app to use.. This app will take your information and account and sell it to any third party including terrorist and that’s what happened with me, I download that app and I write on the search key how to enable Rumble comments and I pack from the search results Rumble how to enable comment and that take me to the page and they don’t show me the clear steps and after that the terrorist who they selled to him my information and account he start to say to me F Word and threat me and he said to me that he will blow up not only me but the whole entire Neighborhoods that I am living in and he show me a map and the area that I am living in and said that he is not happy about my comments that I make on social media, then I contact apple because I get that app from apple App Store and I telled them why didn’t apple write a warning about DuckDuck private browsing because the reason why I downloaded this app because it’s on Apple app Store, they respond to me that this app is a third party app. Anyway I still disappointed apple because they didn’t mention that DuckDuck is a third party app and using that app is on my own risk and because apple always have good apps and products if apple don’t telled her customers that DuckDuck is a third party app and if they use it it’s on there owned risk, how there customers know this app is not safe.
Too clunky and features feel incomplete in description. I wanna love this, I’ve used it for years but it’s just too clunky. I don’t like having to struggle to effectively open links in new tabs when half the time it doesn’t respond properly. Additionally, there’s no point in “fireproofing” websites because the tabs you want to keep from them disappear when fireproofed away. Maybe it’s me misunderstanding but it says you’ll stay signed in and the data won’t be erased but how can I keep the tabs straight if there’s no history or access for tabs from fireproofed websites. I shouldn’t have to use bookmarks or favorites to get some semblance of a history. There should be fireproofed windows then…I get this is for privacy and privacy in this setting means no history but that’s dumb. What if I was price watching a product and used fireproofing to ensure that exact tab was still active? I just think your descriptions of features needs to be improved.
Best app ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. So I was just looking at the reviews of this app and I saw some reviews that say “DuckDuckGo steals your information DuckDuckGo steals your data DuckDuckGo is not a good app blah blah blah 😒” stuff like that but open your eyes that is not true my mom has this app and that has never happened once to her before and DuckDuckGo can talk to you unlike safari and Microsoft and Yahoo the duck once told me that Microsoft and Google tried and steal my data and information and tracked me down I was scared on what I found out but DuckDuckGo stepped in and saved me from being hacked and I was relieved that DuckDuckGo told me that why are you not believing the good reviews why are your eyes closed why can you just not trust me and you don’t know what you don’t have just trust me open your eyes and see why this app was created the person that made this app you are a genius you are a king/queen you are amazing 🥲 and this app is truly better than safari and Microsoft and google and Yahoo you are a piece of gold now that I am loving this app thank you for creating this app I feel so much safer so much happier thank you #DuckDuckGo is the best wow I can’t believe how I have a amazing life now and to all of you who wrote bad reviews you are trash this is a great app Thank you. Let’s help each other out so download this app it’s amazing and safe and we can all be safe and happy!
Missing One Thing. Make no mistake about it, this is a five star app. If I could Add one feature, I would add the ability to save a page to the home screen like you can in safari. Even though Duck Duck Go can be set as the default browser, if you open a link saved to your home screen through Safari, the link will still open Safari rather than opening the default browser, whatever it is. Even so, the browser has the usual features like bookmarks and the ability to save to a reading list, but I have many links saved to my home screen and placed in a folder for one touch convenience. I hope this feature is added in the future. I will happily put up with the inability to use bookmarks from my home screen for browsing security. It is fascinating to look at the site security report for each site to see how often content creators are attempting to track us across the Internet and how many trackers there are in the sites we use.
Don’t trust DDG Use TOR with Onion Browser. From a friend~ Learn Boolean search terms and use them Your searches are censored You are being directed to sites that don’t contain pertinent information or they are commercial purpose sites. Your history is being recorded What you are allowed to view are commercials in disguise The internet is no longer free and MOST importantly absolutely everything can and is being passively recorded. That history everything you buy sell look at read about, every address phone # ticket bank account any license you’ve had marriage children parents life heath job title mortgage credit card every where you are and have been holding that smart phone or in your vehicle is being tracked. All perfectly legal and your consent isn’t needed despite what you’ve read. We have no rights of privacy.
Friendly, warm, real…. I like the alerts/warnings when I go to certain sites. They’ve helped me to realize and understand more about how the internet and the companies of the internet work. I like the friendly and personal language used, rather than alarmist/danger construction-site style warnings. In this way duckduckgo is also set apart from these other companies. I knew it was ddg for sure and not an imposter trying to trick me to their ad page. Just watch, ddg’s friendly and gentle, personal navigational style will start to be adopted by all the other companies when they see its better. But to me it seems ddg implemented it because it matched their business model which genuinely takes into account, the user’s experience. The user is still a person and not just a consumer. Thank you!!!

Tracker blocking. There’s a neat eye-opening feature listing ad trackers blocked and other dubious privacy practices. A decent basic browser. Safari has reading mode, and Google has more powerful search tools, e.g. more options for refining searches by date. If it had these two features, DuckDuckGo would be my default browser.
Enjoying the experience. Got sick of google and the sharing of my search information for their greed marketing .. so I switched and fell better for it... if 30%of us all switched than alphabet , google owners would start to rethink how they share our search data . Like face book they have too much control
Absolutely Incredible. I’ve been looking for a decent web browser for a very long time, and I was delighted when I came across this app. This app is practically perfect. The security and blockers are amazing. There is one small problem that would make this app perfect—the search engine does not have a microphone so you can not speak what you want to search. I am very happy with this search engine and it is clearly worth five stars. They’ve got a cool set up with the duck that sort of acts like a host and it never saves history. If you’re looking for a good, safe and secure web browser, then Duck Duck Go is the one you’re looking for.
Awesome, just a suggestion though. Has a cool dark theme. I like that we can browse privately on iOS. However it operates slower than Safari. I've already switched DuckDuckGo as my default search engine in Safari. Please fix the lag. I'll still give 5 stars for the concept, and wish you all the best in the future! Hopefully you surpass Yahoo, Microsoft, Facebook and Google, in terms of Market Share :D
Way better than Google. I had no idea DuckDuckGo also had a phone app, but I’m so glad I found it. It lets you know what’s going on, you have a lot more control over stuff, but if you have no skills, it pretty much just starts protecting you right off the bat anyway. And let’s you know what’s happening. It has a VPN, blocks trackers and things just like it says it does. Easy to navigate of course, and to top it all off... this is pretty irreverent but the artwork is hilarious, there’s a button for clearing your tabs out, and when you push it, all these flames fly across the screen. I’m a sucker for art and heart, so good on them for including some cool personal touches for us to laugh at.
No font size options. I always have to default back to using Safari as iPhone web browser (where I have DDG set as search engine). This specific DDG app is sending me back to reuse Safari (per above) solely because unlike Safari, DDG doesn’t enable individual users the option (top left side of address / search bar) to individually increase / decrease font size. Great app yet for this reason alone, I must now leave this App - for Safari yet again as homestay - simply because Safari empower me with basic choice ....to be able to alter see & critically read, font of each page visiting. If you rectify via inclusion, then ‘...I’ll be back...’
Kept crashing when opening app. This latest version just kept crashing whenever trying to open the app. Only able to open the app after several attempts at it. Also freezes often.
Duck Duck Go. I love being able to search facts, rumours, news items, spelling, etc without being labelled as being a supporter of the group or beliefs on which I have sought information, and without being bombarded with related advertising & suggested links
We Always Need True and Honest Reporting. In these unprecedented times, where so much of the truth is banned or claimed to be False on other search engines, we have put all our faith in Duck Duck Go to continue giving us factual and true reporting. We rely on the integrity of Duck Duck Go to enable us to read and find the Truth. The world needs this more than ever in these current circumstances where we are facing criminal acts against humanity. We thank you.
Best replacement for google. Had been looking for something that’s an alternative for google The very fact that google didn’t provided it’s app policies on updated iOS App Store went to show how shifty it is as a company which prompted me to delete its services and look for an alternative and it was a bit of a work but found an absolute gem of a search engine and browser
Go for DuckDuckGo. Only been using this Browser App for a few days, after it being recommended by a friend. He was extolling its virtues of eliminating all the tracking that takes place behind the scenes with other Browsers. He demonstrated just how evasive the tracking involved is. After seeing its extent, couldn’t get to try DuckDuckGo quick enough. Now I am using it on my iPhone, iPad and main computer, setting it as the default Browser: So far I haven”t found any case where DuckDuckGo has decreased my Browser results in any way. I love its incinerator effect which gives a graphic illustration of your Browser’s trail being ‘burnt’ up. If you haven”t tried DuckDuckGo, I say go for it, without hesitation. FCB
What a great search engine!. In the last couple of days, I have rediscovered DuckDuckGo. Before this week, I thought DuckDuckGo was a puny search engine compared to Google. That was two years ago. Now I know that DuckDuckGo offers more tailored search results, and blocks those nasty trackers which build up an online profile about you. This information can be sold to target you with advertising. DuckDuckGo is a smaller company than Google, but I believe it is far superior on ethical and practical grounds. So do yourself a favour and download DuckDuckGo today on your phone, or use the online browser.
Excellent private search engine. Excellent search engine and private thanks. One very minor point… the taskbar at the bottom shouldn’t change shape. It gives a really cheap feel to the app Also the “done” button shouldn’t change position when editing bookmarks. Just makes it disconcerting and not intuitive usage. Also some buttons are delayed in their ability to be pressed. It’s frustrating and not snappy.
Just wanted to download something for when Google stops working in Australia. I just downloaded this because Google has grown so big that it’s threatening my countries government. I don’t even care about the new media laws. I just don’t think a company should grow so powerful that it bullies entire nations. I’ll always back the little guy and shun the bullies. Threats like this from monopolists are not okay.
Connection issues sees it forget the URL. I’m having a hell of a day with Internet connectivity. I was trying to visit a link and the connection dropped, I left the app to turn off wifi, when I returned to DuckDuckGo the screen said it was having trouble with the connection and then the link I was trying to navigate to was no longer in the address bar! 😞
A lot better than Google!. I love this app as compared with Google because it’s more ethical, better privacy, and it doesn’t filter out your search as much as the Google algorithm, however it often doesn’t display websites as easy as Google when searching specifically for something like an article or website ha
A pleasant surprise. I’ve known about DuckDuckGo for a long time, but never used it, and now it is the only engine I’ll use on my devices. Love how it blocks trackers, and alerts you to the websites that try to track you, even trusted sites that you would use daily- such as the school sites for my kids, they are riddled with trackers. I might get less emails from Nigerian royalty trying to give me millions of dollars haha. Give it a go.
Duck Duck Search Engine. I was looking for privacy while searching the Web installed different filters trying to stop being bombarded with adds and emails that didn’t work adds and emails continued, a friend told me she was using Duck Duck Go and was very impressed, I looked up Duck Duck Go and installed it since installed I have not been being tracked and had the annoying adds and emails. Thanks Duck Duck Go. I recommend anyone to install Duck Duck Go if you want privacy.
So glad I found this!. I love absolutely everything about DuckDuckGo! I honestly find it much easier to navigate, use and customise than the more common search engines, like google. The biggest perk is obviously the peace of mind that comes knowing you’re not being tracked or getting heaps of ads. It’s a great app as well 👍🏼 Overall, I have nothing but awesome things to say about DuckDuckGo and I wish I’d found it sooner! Love it and I really hope it stays and becomes more known. 10/10 👌🏼
Fantastic. This app is absolutely awesome I can read anime or anything or go into anything I want now without me getting switched over to another site coz of ads.. it’s better than my safari website I use.. this app just stops and blocks all ads on websites I’ve used so far. I’m rating this a 5 star for sure.
A1. Stay true we love you DD 👍👍 This is literally one of the best apps these pathetic iPhones are able to download, the one in a small minority of apps on this phone (if you can call it a phone🆘) that really doesn’t track what your doing hah imagine that something available on apple that isn’t thieving your data wow! just make sure Siri🤛 isn't in her primal default ON position in the app settings.
A casual users perspective. Slightly better than the stock browser functionality, this doesn’t automatically swap to your new tabs, or looks a little nicer, and the privacy seems to be much better. The mass window close function is handy. Needs a “night” mode that makes webpages at least a very dark grey instead of white. But then everything does, doesn’t it?
Order never received. I made an expensive order back in Sept ‘21 and it’s now nearly Feb ‘22 and I still have not received my order. Numerous times I have contacted them and continuous excuses are given. They told me they will resend then when that wasn’t received I was told they sold out if the ones I wanted. Waiting waiting. No courtesy at all to contact me, I have to chase them.
This is the best search engine ever, period.. This is the best search engine ever, period. Things that google blocks can be viewed with this browser and search engine. I will never use google ever again. Everyone needs to change and come to the world of freedom to view what ever you want. They don’t block conservative views that’s for sure but they are fair they also don’t block liberal views.
Stop nagging me!!!. This would be quite a useful app (at least ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) except for the constant nagging it does about "adding Duck Duck Go to Safari". If, like me you already use DDG as your preferred search engine from Safari you still get the same nagging even though you have made the requested setting for safari. Really annoying chaps! DDG needs a way to recognise that you have made the setting change or else users will try something else! As a way of punishment I am going to delete the app. Please fix this! Peter 20 May 2017: Despite my rather negative review the developer contacted me in a positive way; this is an indication of a person/organisation that cares about its product. In reply, I will reinstall the DuckDuckGo app and give it another try.
Email distribution. Thanks for the quick reply. 🙂 I am a bit worried about the possibility of problems with this and that I will be prevented from receiving emails or they could be delayed. I haven’t finished reading all the information. Could I cancel any time? Another query - can we transfer more than one email address?
Great Browser. It is a very neat almost ad free experience however if I had one issue then it would be the inability to jump back a number of pages. I think both Safari and Chrome will allow you, if you hold the back arrow down, a pop up of the many previous pages and allow you to select where to go to. This browser has you tapping the back arrow and at times it gets stuck. If this option could be implemented then it be a great addition.
Absolutely worth 5 stars BUT…. This is an excellent replacement browser with integrated search engine, giving some confidence that web browsing is more secure than other available options. Been using it since first available and I now live a life free of gooble ad tracking. It’s gratifying to see that blank google ad placeholder wherever I go on the web! There is one function I wish existed however: with the ability to leave numerous tabs open for future reference and consequently struggling to find that one tab I used without opening yet another for the same website, why can’t I search for the urls of open tabs??? Searching the current page for text is fine, but I need to check that website/tab I opened last week without typing a new search. Maybe this function exists but I can’t find any reference to it… anyway thanks for all your hard work duckies!
Unplug from the matrix. Look you won’t know how much you love this app until you just go ahead and get it. Your eyes will be opened to how much other web browsers are exposing you to adds and tracking your online presence to modify your behaviour and away towards buying. Search engines shouldn’t come at the cost of having your behaviour tracked and modified by conglomerate companies. Just get the app and you’ll notice how much freer you feel in the end.
Duckduckgo. Overall I am very pleased with Duckduckgo. It affords much more privacy, than the Google’s and Facebooks of this increasingly intrusive World we now inhabit. I like the fact that you can easily give Feedback whether it be positive or negative. I find when I use Duckduckgo that my iPhone is very rarely tracked. It’s a good feeling that you can scroll the Internet without the many many snoopers. If I use my friends phone(no Duckduckgo) The list of trackers following is mind boggling!! Thank you Duckduckgo Jacqueline
Everyone should use this. After years of privacy invasion and erosion by Facebook, Google and others at last there is a tech developer who believes that people need privacy. Since I started using duck duck go it has continually improved and I rarely use google now. I encourage anyone and everyone to do the same.
Well-designed browser, plus essential search engine. DuckDuckGo is of course essential if you care about your privacy on the internet - and hate tech monopolies or Big Data in general. The overall experience is not quite as good as Google, which isn’t surprising, but in spite of this the browser is thoughtfully designed and easy to use. Recommended.
Great concept, bit slow and clumsy to use on iPhone. Love love love the concept of privacy and blocking trackers from search results. For some who feels squeamish about being tracked and as targeted on their every search, this is a great browser. I use the app though, and notice loading website's takes about 3-4 times the time as normal searches and browsing on safari does :(. Also, the refresh button is not a standalone visible button, but requires pressing the "..." Function to select refresh from a dropdown menu. The changing and upgrading of this would be awesome! Also not sure how DDG will survive the competitive ad market due to ad targeting only being for the current search while other search engines are doing more comprehensive tracking and gathering, but I hope they can! :)
Hackers Revenge. I have been hacked so badly that most people/phone companies/utility companies/friends/family all just say to me “it’s just a glitch” “ that just happens sometimes” I had some friends say when we caught up “as long as you don’t talk about the hacking” well it’s still not over but it’s getting there bit by bit . I just want to say that DuckDuckGo is the safest I’ve ever felt on the internet , thankyou duck duck .
No turning back. I have been using ddg for over 10yrs now across all my device's. When I started using there was no app, it was just a browser based search engine like early days of the internet before google when your options were Lycos, Yahoo, AltaVista, WebCrawler… to name a few. I do occasionally dabble with the new players that appear on the market but somewhere they always fall short and I always end up coming back. Keep up the good work.
Ducking Duck. I’ve switched to the Duck since our ABC provided other reliable search engines and this was over 12 months ago and I’ve been very satisfied with the high performance of my searches and the engine’s blocking ability. Thank you I highly recommend you.
No ads. Each site has blocked advertising that tracks, which also you find yourself not accidentally clicking on them then different pages opening up. Loving it completely. No digital footprint left behind. Well done guys.
Brilliant anonymity online. From one little black duck to duck duck go, thank you for your ongoing strive towards the protection of ones online journey while trying to get to the bottom of a personal electronic and digital nightmare. I'm grateful to be able to access genuine websites and the info contained within them with confidence that my personal private data along with my device info is secure while hidden from these life invading and befriending fraudsters that have deceived not only myself but who knows how many others for their own ill gotten gain without any consent from the genuine owner of the device, data, accounts, private property and home delivered mail. Nobullfact
Great for 90 % of my browsing. Strips out many off the 3rd party advertisements and probably much of the unwanted sharing and monitoring of your activities with external entities of ill repute such as Facebook, especially when used in conjunction with No Script and Privacy Badger. The sophisticated organisations such as Google can still identify you even when you use Private Browsing on a new install of your browser or at a new location (yes, a trifle unsettling), presumably by the signal of operating system, processor type, IP addresses ranges etc.
Review of appreciation. I have now used ddg for a while and want to make it my go to search engine but it is very difficult to change google in these apple telephones I like ddg because they have up to the minute news as top stories instead of two or more day old news from google I am so pleased to have found ddg it is great thank you Kind regards from Victoria Australia
Slowed down. Hi there!! I love what you are doing with this browser and what it offers. I would like to give some feedback. Of late, your browser has significantly slowed down in performance. I’ve noticed this specially in the past month. Which leads me to believe it might be software related. I am using an iPhone 12 Pro Max on the latest iOS. Thanks
Sell outs!. This search engine was a godsend when looking for alternative news sources that are more likely to offer truth than the MSM. But sadly, those days are gone. This news saddened me that DDG have now decided to block the independent media and favour the mainstream outlets! Shame on you! This is financial suicide for your business model! You are digging your own grave with this sudden jump onto the censorship bandwagon. Free speech and access to all information is the bedrock to any democracy and you have chosen to sell out to the big corporate monsters. After I have recommended your app and search engine to hundreds of people! Never again! Shame on you! I know at least 30 people who are deleting your app immediately. Me being one of them! Shame on you! Absolutely disgraceful.
DuckDuckGo web browser. My daughter suggested DuckDuckGo to me as I was fed up with Google knowing my browser history and the ads were ridiculously annoying . DuckDuckGo makes me feel safe & I don't feel spied upon . I love this browser because it's aim is to keep viruses ' hackers away Thankyou so much DuckDuckGo for taking away my anxiety and worry about being hacked again !
Would switch, BUT!. I would 100% switch to this awesome browser. I love how it forgets everything unless you 'fireproof' a page instead of the other way around! However, the only thing keeping me from switching is Bookmark folders. You guys need to implement this, please! And also an easy way to transfer a favourites to bookmarks as holding down the bookmarks button adds a favourite, but to add a bookmark you have to go to the top-right menu, which feels a bit frustrating. Could I suggest adding 2 icons at the bottom of the Bookmarks pop-up (for easy reach): '🤍' for adding a Favourite and '📖' (or an actual bookmark or corner of a page symbol) for Bookmarks! Love the app! But will stay on Safari until I can add folders :)
Practical and Private. I’ve started using this web browser, and I’ve found it very useful over the course of time. I believe it’s private as it says, and with the addition of clearing all history + the Face ID/Touch ID implements. I highly recommend this to anyone to would like a safe and secure browser for daily functions. I applaud the developers for creating a protected browser, which I will use for years to come. 10/10
Madly Safe Browser The Best. This thing worx amazingly I think, it does what it says it does, so far. I’ve been looking for a made browser like this for years. And finally now I have the perfect browser for the people that cause drama in my internet life. The features are self explanatory. Easy to follow and the prove is there 5 STAR BROWSER AAABrowser in my opinion. And my flat mate whom had a Brain Tumor she is able to use this with no problem. Just the same as myself using this trouble free Browser that curtainly does what it claims to do. Look no further if you want a browser that stops hackers in its tracks from following you and all the other things that this 10/10 browser does. Seriously I’m just a average people that has found this perfect browser & for me to call it perfect doesn’t come from me often. So it must be insanely mad in a good way. It’s main aim is to stop people or others from tacking what your surfing and bothering you. When u are internet surfing. Look no further it’s the best I mean it. Give it a go if u don’t agree or don’t like it you can always delete it. Im in Australia and it’s seriously a very good internet browser. If not the very best
O.O Please Read Before Downloading. its good but when i tries to search up "Gacha Life" it came up with inappropriate videos wich are really REALLY NOT MENT FOR KIDS!!! Either add a "block creator" option or add a "Child Safe Mode" Anyway, Its a great app. anyways, the good thing is i can watch my videos knowing a duck 🦆 is helping me to stay safe on the web and no adds thats a bonus and you can even change the app icon colour!
Love the Duck. I’ve been using Duck Duck Go from the day I discovered that my previous search engine had recorded every single search from day one That was a while ago and the Duck back then was a bit modest compared to what I was used to but the knowledge that these searches were completely private kept me here, and over the years I have seen DDG grow and improve
Finally I have secure browsing! THE BEST!. I was so annoyed that when I searched for a product that I would be bombarded with adds ACROSS DIFFERENT PLATFORMS straight after. I had a vpn but it did not help.... I was also annoyed that when I tried to look at current affairs I was fed a skewed and biased result. I tried bing, it was ok but not a nice app to use. I heard about DuckDuckGo and because of the name never tried it. After trying to find news about a major election I finally had enough and tried DuckDuckGo. Well finally the adds have stopped! Finally I can see news stories showing all opinions so that I can make my own decision on which opinion is true. I have set DuckDuckGo as my default search engine everywhere and I like that I can even see when some trackers have been blocked and if a site is unsafe. So highly recommended I wish I had downloaded this long ago. Thank you to the developers this is the BEST app I have full stop. Everyone must use this for privacy and security.
Only one issue. This is a brilliant app that I use as my preferred browser. The only issue I have with it is that it takes about 4x longer to load anything compared to Safari and other browsers. Even just googling something without clicking any links takes about 10 seconds at least compared to 2-3 on Safari. Whilst this is only a small issue, it makes searching multiple things a lot more tedious and lengthy because the time really adds up quick

How the internet should be.. This search enjoin is awesome, it shows you ALL the options when you put in a search, not just the ones the far LEFT want you to see. Keep up the good work and thanks for letting US decide what we want to read.
What a great app. Super happy with this app, so tired of google grateful for the option
Would like Reader View. While it’s nice that a lot of ads and banners are blocked, sometimes a website’s layout is annoying and a Reader View facility would be helpful for those sites. PS - my Sign In with Apple works again.
Simply the best. The best browser for your privacy and security!
Allows Microsoft to track some of your data now. Title says it all, immediately switching to Brave now
DUCK DUCK GO. Best search engine out there only one I use ;)
Its Bing now!. Looks like the backend search engine is Bing now! No option to view or change
Awesome. I have bee using mail.com for a few years, they are great. No complaints here. Thank you mail.com.
Big brother is watching. Worse browser you can download. Duck duck go once promoted itself as a safe place to surf the web without censorship by giving you full freedom and responsibility. Now it censors everything, watches you. You are now they’re 5 year old child Don’t use Duck Duck Go
Browser freezes after recent update. Pages become unresponsive out of the blue on both iPhone and iPad Pro. iOS 14. Please look into this.
Fabulous. I’ve been using DuckDuckGo for a month. I’m fussy about privacy & it’s FAB. Even with Apple’s g8 iOS system security DDgo offers me much needed peace of mind b/c I fundamentally believe if U want to use my personal data then pay me. It’s well designed, has a clean, easy to use/intuitive layout and keeps you safe from the dangers of having “the world at ur fingertips” via the Internet. Highly recommended. Can’t say enough positives.
Censorship. Used to be good, now Duckduck Go caters to propaganda and allows the government dictate the censorship of the truth. Shameful. Deleted.
Why am I just finding you now. I use Duck Duck Go as my default browser search engine, and find it always surprises me how good it actually is, but I didn’t know about the mobile browser until recently. I’m loving it. I grew so tired of every app having google tracker from my previous searches despite using incognito mode. I’m done with being forced to see advertisements that infringe on my privacy. Share the word, DDG is the way.
Not the best search engine. If you want a truly safe search engine. Switch to Brave. Unfortunately, DuckDuckGo is not as safe as they claim it is and recently they have started censoring certain information that we can see.
A good choice.. It works as it says, not having any problems or issues with it.
Useless. Every other app on my iPad works greats online. This app DOES NOT!!! It works for maybe a minute then freezes. I have to turn off then back on the wifi. It then works for a few minutes then freezes. Then turn off and back on wifi. Only for it to work a few minutes till it freezes Again. Wifi off, wifi on DO YOU GET IT!!!!
Freedom. As the giant tech companies that control everything you read, are quite disgustingly bias, and are trying to destroy free speech, it is refreshing to see companies like this preserve your freedom, not control you. Bravo!
Every Update Makes It Worse. I loved this browser for a long time but it’s just gotten worse and worse with age. Most recently with the last update I’ve completely lost the ability to open anything in a new tab. Finally gave up and deleted it, time to find a good browser again.
JUST WENT FROM AWEFUL TO USELESS. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the iOS app with my correct language and region settings, and the desktop version is in English- but the app seems to be stubbornly stuck in Dutch, Danish? I’m not sure because I’m not fluent in the lingo that my latest version of the DDG iOS app is displaying- despite any changes in the settings or troubleshooting it thoroughly; it’s been useless to me for over a month now, and I haven’t heard back from the DuckDuckGo Community Help… so?
what happened,. to “open in new tab”? to setting to open links in new tab? latest update on 12.4.9
Google sucks. Was a very good search engine till google got their grimy corporate hands on it, now its only a matter of time till this too is censored by the abhorrent tax avoiding company known as google
Fake. How come it has more better reviews than google it’s kinda trash also tracks ur location and what ya doing just warning young users out there
Garbage CEO. This browser was supposed to be private and unbiased in searches. Ranking search results according to what someone or some organization think what is ok and what isn’t seems like an oxymoron decision for this browser. Becoming a propaganda tool.
Uses Microsoft trackers?. “DuckDuckGo browser uses Microsoft trackers due to search agreement” - May 24, 2022. This is not the privacy focus DuckDuckGo markets itself as having. Bye bye.
Lost all my favourites. Just did the latest update. Now all my favourites are gone. Nice job DDG…
Not as good as you think. I follow privacy closely, and you’re just the easiest best option to the even worse platforms. But you don’t fool me…you don’t care about my privacy.
Wonderful browser.. Feel a lot safer online.
I’d get it. Never get caught being on pornhub, I love it. Good app
Great privacy. Really enjoy using this private browser .. really don’t like the fact of the Canadian government being to censor everything we now read on the net ..
More contact. Seems in the last few days the availability to contact on 5G networks has been more simpler or simplified. I mean to connect to it as much effort having to be put in and seeing some results although still subtle they’re definitely in the area I was looking for, but couldn’t find.
Google owned garbage!!!. Research this a little more people.
Primarily for US users. I set the preference for Canada, I include Canada as a search term but I still get the .com version of major sites rather than .ca. Of course minor sites will be more often American than Canadian as well so in many circumstances the whole effort is a waste of time.
Very straight forward. I really like how the explanation of the app is very straight forward and how they made it so secure and friendly. Thank you so much for the privacy
Best. I trust this browser / app completely. Works well every time. I like knowing my browsing cannot be tracked.
privacy. security.. the name of the game. enuf said. 👍👍👍👍👍
Too much censorship. Too much censorship with DuckDuckGo. They do not encourage free speech.
Bought by google. This app has Ben bought by google do not use it it is not secure and is no longer safe as of dec 15 2020
Fake reviews?. Isn’t it strange that DDG has 11,000 reviews, more than double Chrome? Always liked what DDG does but now this makes me wonder if they are truly legit....
Ad blocker missing. Also latest updates Nov 2020 broke “open in new tab” and “open new tab in background” - please fix asap, even in older versions it was temperamental and wouldn’t always give the new tab options, but now it’s completely gone ☹️
Duck Duck Go. Fabulous search engine. Been using it just like the others and have no complaints whatsoever.
This one’s a winner!. Get this one. It’s the best.
Not private. They are selling your info to Microsoft
Love it. Simple app to optimize your privacy. I would give five star if there a option to make it default browser for iPhone so that any link I am opening from text, email etc uses DuckDuckGo and not safari.
Andromeda. To browse without being stalked is great. Sure they use the word “profile”, and to improve our services. It’s also to improve the adds u see. Well so does the spyware I don’t know about, and the unethical hacker that now knows my interest clicks, can have no problem committing hours creating a fake one to creat more issues. Also, love the fire. Plus isn’t investigating a future purchase a big part of the enjoyment.
Pro Censorship. Switched to Brave.
Searches are visible in Safari. Notice when I come to do a search in safari , it deployed the search history of DuckDuckGo !! So Apple knows what you looked for and keeps the history of it !
Ability to download PDFs. Only complaint is there doesn’t seem to be a way to download a file or PDF to phone like any other browser.
Excellent But.... Why is there such a long delay between the time you click on the app to launch it until you can actually begin typing in a search term? It wasn’t always like this. Seems to be getting more and more bloated with every update.
Keeps resetting settings. I moved away from google search because I didn’t want to feel I was being manipulated, but now I am getting the same feeling when using DuckDuckGo. I keep having to go into the settings on a weekly or biweekly basis to turn off privacy suggestions and prompts to use DuckDuckGo in my browser, etc because the app turns back on the settings that I have specifically turned off (many many times now). What is the point of turning off features and saving the changes only to have them reset to ON when the company feels like it? Shady practices are happening too often now, this will push me away as a user.
Why Duck duck go is fantastic.. Being able to research, find information on items of interest, and explore areas globally without being inundated by unnecessary solicitations from marketing for weeks afterwards makes duck duck go the best option for searching the internet. Try it next to any other search engines and see how much greater the information is.
Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!
Lost its touch for removing independent sources. I got duckduckgo to not only not be tracked but to use independent media outlets, from what I heard, they’re removing independent media outlets for more “trusted” sources, that makes duckduckgo no better than google other than the lack of tracking, just because some outlets are larger doesn’t mean they’re more true, it actually just means they’re more liable to be bought out by really corrupted rich people to push certain agendas, you'd be surprised how often that happens. duckduckgo is removing independent voices from the mix for more controlled mainstream ones instead, and now I have less of a reason to use it. Tragic, truly, I will be finding new methods of research. I hope this decision gets reversed, because I know many users of this app that feel the same way I do, before this decision duckduckgo was the best search engine for researching, period, sad to see it come to an end.
Please do something to prevent accidental Inferno triggers!. I use a Bluetooth keyboard. The keyboard shortcut to backspace entire words is alt+backspace. The keyboard shortcut for triggering an Inferno app wipe is ctrl+alt+backspace. Several times this year, my finger has slipped while I was trying to backspace something, and tabs and data got cleared. This time around, I had many of the websites I didn't want cleared fireproofed. At least one of those websites handles cookies in such a way that it got reset *despite the fireproofing* — and it was an idle game which had already reset multiple times before from this exact same thing happening, which I have spent the last month trying to complete without an Inferno wiping away my progress. Please do SOMETHING to prevent accidental Infernos with Bluetooth keyboards. Change the keyboard shortcut. Make a second, confirmation keyboard shortcut required. Make the confirmation prompt appear on-screen when the shortcut is used. At this point, I don't care what it is you do, just do SOMETHING to prevent accidental Infernos from occurring while I'm typing! I'm getting tired of having my Idle Game reset over and over and over again when I'm about to win because my finger slipped while typing something in another tab!
Amazing app all around. I don’t often have good things to say about apps due to privacy issues, etc..but if I could give ten stars to DUCK DUCK GO, I would and for many reasons. I Love the privacy of the web browser, and the ease of use. Love the design options and the history clearance effects are satisfying to watch. Especially significant is the support DUCK DUCK GO provides, which is superior and there’s no long waiting fo replies to your issues/questions, etc…the beta email is fabulous and I am so glad I am signed up already! I feel safer online because of DUCK DUCK GO, grateful they exist and understand the privacy, identity theft and fraud issues facing everyone who is online. I appreciate you all! Thank you!
Love-Hate Relationship. Every year or so, I try to dump Safari and jump ship to DuckDuckGo, and every time, the same two issues make me give up: (1) You cannot import bookmarks. I have hundreds of hierarchically-organized bookmarks I have accumulated over the years. There is not a way to import bookmarks. You have to re-create the bookmark one at a time in DuckDuckGo. I’m not willing to do that. This issue has been noted on forums for years without being addressed. (2) When I do a search in the browser, I get a page of hits, as expected. Then, when I touch one of the hits, I get a NEW page of hits, I guess that are based on what I touched. Touching one of THOSE hits, I get yet ANOTHER page of hits. This goes on forever. I can’t get to the specific url of a page. I’m obviously doing something wrong, but it is not obvious what I did wrong. I like the idea of DuckDuckGo, but these two issues are dealbreakers for me.
Too many interferences now stopped. For years I used a popular browser, not realizing what all was being learned and shared about my actions. A new device prompted me to make the change to DuckDuckGo. After seeing a list of the creepy sites that were prevented from attaching themselves to an early search, a healthful relief appeared. DuckDuckGo IS looking out for my best interests. No ads appearing to sell me something recently researched is soothing. Who needs more than one used car, specific garden tool or special dog treat at a time? What is sought is found, my phrasing is understood, and a trust is felt that never appeared over years of using a popular browser. This DuckDuckGo relationship is a wonderful change in my searching methods.
Just started. I like the fact that you can get the information all the other supposed to be honest media bands. I can determine what I want to believe or not. It’s not up to the so call media to determine what I can see or hear. The fact that your not bought by the so called media is refreshing. Here truths or lies can be expressed and the reader has the right to read and determine on his own what is fact and what is fiction. I hope you never bow to the government or the communist media we are seeing in the country. As far as the ABC media Facebook, Twitter, and the so called socialist media. Oh I mean social. Naw I mean socialist. Thank you for a place you can express your views no matter what they are.
Five star rating for DuckDuckGo. I was using Google Chrome as my search engine on my Apple iPhone. Until a friend recommended the DuckDuckGo search engine. DuckDuckGo search engine is much faster and it’s not presenting the problem I was having with Google. What was happening with Google after I typed in the search, the responses or answers would come up then the program would freeze and I couldn’t open up or go further into the Google search engine. I would have to turn off my phone, reboot my Apple iPhone, and then go back to google and then the rest of the answer would pop up. Very frustrating. I am not having that problem with DuckDuckGo.
Microsoft. I have enjoyed using this browser but was disappointed by the powers of it’s search engine as I’m sure they already know it not close to googles quite yet but I do enjoy the burn feature. Duck duck go does not sell your info or create profiles for your internet footprint BUT they are a subsidiary of Microsoft, we all know that Microsoft is very much so for profit, very much so collecting data and attempting to create products which they can sell to you. If duck duck go is accessed by someone from Microsoft or bing what will they do with your information? Who knows but they definitely have access to it and are for profit. The marketing is misleading users and only if you read the last line of the terms of service would you even know they are partners of Microsoft and bing.
First Review I’ve Ever Left. Understanding what is being done with our data by the big tech companies every day is Orwellian to say the least. I’ve used Duck Duck Go’s search engine for a while and was ecstatic to stumble upon their mobile browser. Yet, I kept my hopes low because too often I’ve been disappointed when it comes to mobile applications. Not this time. All I can say is: WOW. Smooth, easy, *gorgeous* browsing experience. Everything is on point. Thank you so much for valuing my privacy and making it a focal point while crafting this masterpiece of a mobile internet browsing experience. Feel like it sounds like I’m shilling but I assure you I’m so unlikely to write another review until the day I die. Just please value your data and privacy, do yourself a favor and download this app right now. I’m just beyond blown away.
Deb B.. Duck duck go is the optimum private search app by far. Have been using The Duck for years and not ever disappointed. These guys give privacy tips, Customizing home page, alerts in the search bar of all who track you. Privacy is real folks. Simple laymen application. I am extremely satisfied with this private search engine. The DuckDuckGo also has a privacy newspaper to sigh up for, with so much information on almost anything that has to do with competitors and their privacy policies, Not! There are tips for setting up all devices as private. Folks, Many functions such as note pad apps in all networks are NOT ENCRYPTED. Yep. Found out this and so much in tips part of the app. Enjoy browsing the world web with your searches totally anonymous!
Exactly What I’ve been Searching For!. A friend in IT told me about this Search Engine because I’ve been trying to find a secure method of research without being tracked and hacked. Well this is it. If you’re tired of being steered in all the directions other then where you want to go - switch to DuckDuckGo. If you’re tired of being fed bad information or skewed bits of information to feed you a hidden agenda, switch to DuckDuckGo. If you’re tired of going all the way to page 10 on Google just to hopefully find objective answers, switch to DuckDuckGo. We are on the information highway when we’re here. We have the right to see what we’re actually looking for - not just what the controllers want us to see. Lastly, from what I understand, it’s an American based company. I prefer that. Happy researching!
Everything they say is true…... Being a web developer I am very aware of all the tracking tools that companies like Facebook and Google use to follow you around the internet, and all of the very personal information they have on you. I had jury rigged lots of tools and extensions to protect myself, but when I found Duck Duck Go I had no need for them (except a password manager).. I am SO relieved to find an organization that takes our privacy seriously and now I don’t have to be thinking, “is someone looking over my shoulder?” when I’m researching online. My side gig is a researcher/internet detective and I really don’t want Mark Zuckerburg or Google following me around.
It’s easy to use and fun!. It’s as easy as other search engines, as long as you familiarize yourself a bit with the interface and it feels a lot safer. I compared searches between this one and the top search engines and I received the same results which is awesome. So far I really like it and it’s nice to not have companies watching my every move to just show me add’s, there is enough of that happening on social media Apps, I don’t need it when I am trying to look up something. I also really like that it doesn’t open up a bunch of tabs. Sometimes in other search engines I will have like 20 tabs open and I really had no clue, I would think I was still within the first tab I was using. This slows my phone down without me even being aware and I have to close each one manually. This app seems to just search through a tab for the most part and even if other tabs open up, when you press the burn icon it deletes all tabs that are open! The kid in me really loves this feature since Its pretty satisfying and fun to see the flames that pop up as it burns up your past searches 😂. So so far so good! I even use it as my default search engine now.
Better than Google. I don’t know why I keep coming back to Google. The app keeps freezing up on me and sometimes it won’t properly erase my search history. Even when I don’t have a lot of tabs loading at a time it STILL freezes up on me. DuckDuckGo is so much better. No worries about bots, or data tracking. Or freezing up on you when your only using one tab. Plus the fire wall option is convenient because it erases all your search history and it won’t keep popping up even after you erased it. So yes, I recommend using DuckDuckGo if you don’t want to have your data stolen, or worry about it crashing on you while browsing the internet.
Never knew how bad other search engines were.. It has been a much more seem less experience using Duck Duck Go since I began about a week ago. The difference has been tremendous, and I have learned plenty about my,”fingerprint,” that gets tracked by adds literally at every click. It’s a good feeling of satisfaction watching adds/cookies getting blocked. Then seeing which adds have me targeted. I wanted to get off any browser that was going to censor the media, and Google, Facebook, and Twitter had to go immediately. Especially after their last scandals with their algorithms being epoch to a country that excepts communist ran media. I am proud to be able to write and speak freely on any topic no matter how disagreeable that may be (lol.) Thank you Duck Duck go for leading the way for other browsers.
Yell its name from the rooftops!. Everyone should feel obligated to tell their family, friends, and workers about this defense of your person. Literally for all of your devices that you browse the web with. We’re all getting robbed blind by tech and we don’t even know it, meanwhile we’re being sold out insecurities like a drug. Watch the most recent John Oliver or see if you can watch a snippet just look up “John Oliver data brokers” and you’ll see just how much. I’ve known about traditional software and hardware but my current career hasn’t been in tech for 5-6 years and I know ad tech has gone nuclear in the most radioactive of ways and our senile politicians are too busy robbing us via billionaire favored legislation, I digress. Anyways. Download this app and tell everyone. lol
With GPC enabled I can’t login to any of my known retailers. I love that the DuckDuckGo app is blocking all of the numerous sites that show up when I click on the icon at the top of the search bar. I had no idea how many sites are tracking us in every search we do, this wasn’t available on the regular search engine I had added to my safari on our iPhones. So the app is way safer, the only problems we are having is when we try to login to a site we normally order from with our login information, it doesn’t let us ever login. After seeing how many sites were blocked using this app, it makes us really afraid to ever login on safari and use our credit cards on there again. Please fix this issue, so we can buy products safely online with your app.
Tracking personal pages. I’ve just started using the app never saw before now the amount of tracking that is done regardless of browsing or visiting a site that I’m a member of. This is disturbing to me and should be to almost everyone who uses the net. I’m went to one of my favorite auction sites that I’m a member of to bid in auctions. I saw where Google, Facebook, tweeter and others was tracking my visit, keep in mind I don’t have any of the above accounts nor do I want them especially now. The most important thing here was after I’m logged in to my account and click on a item once in my account to maybe bid on it like the Marlin hunting rifle but I just looked at it the above clowns came back in force more than before. I get the tracking issue however once you’re signed in to any of the sites you’re a member of they should not be allowed any further information if I’m looking at car parts or ammunition, this is way to far on personal freedom in this country. Thank you Duck Duck Go for your service to most people who are now seeing what is a small part of the problem with Tech. Respectfully James K
Great Product, Needs Rebranding. Hey guys, I love what you stand for and the quality of the product you offer. Being in marketing, however, I feel like you guys need to consider rebranding. I was hesitant to try based on the cartoony logo and name, it just gives an odd unprofessional micro-transaction game vibe if I’m being honest. Your product is about to explode with these Patriots and conservatives seeking alternative, safe, non-invasive social media’s and internet browsers. Rebranding to DDG with a more professional logo accurately portraying what your product has to offer would boost your numbers tremendously. If you guys would like some ideas or help, I would be more than willing to offer my services to bounce ideas off free of charge. Give it a thought guys, much love.
Disappointed. I use duck duck go for privacy and non censorship because that's the whole idea of duck duck go but now I hear you are censoring misinformation from Russia ok cool no one really likes Russia or trusts them 100% but we can't trust the government in Ukraine they are just as bad but with the USA help and even here at home the USA is going fast into its own propaganda so it's better to hear all sides and not pick and choose what's correct just put all information out there and let people decide for themselves don't tell them what they must believe this is censorship controlling a narrative that you want to push or one side wants to push and shame on duck duck go for going agist their standards and bowing to this , it will be very hard to trust you that you won't start doing it with other things now or have u thins whole time and just lied about who you really are? Anyways I'm moving onto somewhere else you lost me sorry!!
Great Update. The latest update adds some really nice features such as being able to clear tabs and data with one click, add bookmarks, etc. Performance with the new update is slower than the previous version for me. I updated to the most recent version of iOS and added a VPN app at the same time, so I'm not sure what is causing the slower performance. Update to my review - I just downloaded the newest version of Duck Duck Go, and performance is now back to normal. The developer resolved the performance issue in just a couple of days. I've upgraded my rating to 5 stars. DDG continues to get better with each update. However, I preferred the location of the search field in the middle of the screen rather than at the top.
Duck Internet Invasion 4ever. I tried DuckDuckGo several years ago on an older device, but when I replaced and upgraded, it was easy enough just to slide back into using the browser already installed on the new devices, Google or Safari. Never again! Want control of your life? Then set up DuckDuckGo as your default and only browser. I don’t want the stealth harvesting of my data and behavior. I now receive email, phone and mail solicitations on funeral homes, burial, cremation and embalming science because 5 years ago I had to help a friend do research and make decisions when one of her parents died suddenly. What other information do browsers extract from your searches? My security sweeps are now clean and DDG alerts me to the invasive attempts when I search for information. This is a wonderful browser!
Only 1 Complaint From Me.. Now I have only been use ing this web browser for a week now. But like I said above, “no complaints from me”. Before I add any kind of app to my cell phone, I always always always do a little digging first. I’ll read the reviews in the evening, and before you know it it could be hrs gone by. My point is, in reading these reviews, there are a lot of high and low reviews. Some that are even confused. But I didn’t see is responses or whomever is responsible for this app’s reviews, responding to anyone. Not one single complaint, compliment, ask for assistance, .. Nothing. I mean there are a lot of apps that also do not respond to people. Sometimes it is just too much I’d assume. I do not know your reasoning. But it would be nice to see ya know what I mean. 👍🏼
Great alternative to Safari, but…. DDG is a great alternative to Safari. It’s privacy settings are phenomenal, I feel safe based on what trackers are tracking my data and they show which ones they turn off. I’ve only had a couple of issues and only one of them is due to the app. There are times where the app freezes, and it happens semi-frequently; I’ll have to restart the app. The second issue is if you’re looking for information, DDG as a search engine lacks the priority aspect that, say, Google has. There are times where I have to go to a different search engine to get what I need. My final thought, it’s a great app for privacy browsing but if you’re looking for information, use a different search engine within the app
THIS APP PROVES IT SELF........ Downloaded a couple weeks ago and I’m astounded at the sincerity of this app. It even lets you know when Google or another app on your phone are trying to obtain information. I wonder if this app was mentioned on the new movie The Social Dilemma..... which I still haven’t seen. I’ve been trying to shun google for awhile because they have thier claws in everything internet related...... not because I’m looking up crazy, dark web, or illegal crap but, simply for the principle of one company NOT MONOPOLIZING EVERYTHING...... and I’m sick of 10,000 distracting adds when I try to find a simple answer to something. Some of the stuff may be fun but, I’ve got sh** to do sometimes and can’t be on google for hours a day 😠 THANK YOU DUCK DUCK GO !
Censorship. I’ve been very happy with DuckDuckGo and I’ve had it as my default search engine. Until now. Censorship no matter how well intentioned will eventually go wrong, and that is assuming it already hasn’t. Saying you’re blocking “Russian Disinformation” may sound good to some, but it begs the question “Who decides what’s disinformation and what isn’t?” With our current politic it’s more likely that DDG is crafting a political narrative at the behest of the State, which is exactly what we’ve been getting from all the Google dependent platforms for years, and it’s what DDG implicitly said it wouldn’t do. I’m an adult and I can figure out what’s political narrative or disinformation and what isn’t. All I need DDG to do is make as much information available as possible for me to make my own decisions. Please reverse your stance on censorship.
But. I’ve used DDG as my default browser for a couple of years, but I thought maybe I should be using the App. It’s okay I can see the privacy is a good thing and the App is easy to maneuver. I chose to designate it as my default browser app which seems to mean when I click a link in an email or article it opens in the DDG App. There lies the problem. If I post that article or email to example: twitter I have to sign in every time because it doesn’t feed through the twitter app but the browser. Ergo I get message and email alerts that someone has signed in to my twitter account every time. It’s very annoying so until you can remedy this or instruct me how to remedy this you are still my default browser, but I’ll go back to NO default App.
Tolerance means proportional in the context.. I don’t mind promotional ads for products. I do mind promotional ads for social or political products. And by that I include most news media and commentary sources provided to me in my searches. I simply do not believe that biased news is trustworthy news. Thus, any news reporting promoting intolerance (From patronization and condescension or infantilization to down right hate speech) by emphasizing agitation and social disruption, instead of moderate and context-relevant nonjudgmental relating of facts, is off my bucket list. All people see the world through their own cultural eyes. Attempting to ‘re-culture’ society is a task that Buddha and Christ taught is best presented with tolerance and not with the toe of Mao’s CCP boot.
The BEST Browser I’ve Used. Since I’ve downloaded the app, I’ve been using it as my main browser. The ease of use and the customization is appealing to me. I love that I can put a lock on my browser if I’ve been looking things up and forget to close them. The burn button is also extremely handy if I’ve finished what I’m doing so I can keep an organized browser bar. The best part in my opinion is it’s ability to block trackers from companies like Google and Facebook, so they can’t collect or sell your browsing data. This has actually helped me lower the amount of ads! The app is also able to hide what you search, look up, or watch on your history, so nothing is stored. I overall love the app and can’t wait to see how future updates improve upon this SOLID foundation.
No longer the “free speech” search engine. I’ve been using and recommending DuckDuckGo for years now and was glad to start seeing more ads from them on TV. However, tonight I learned that they have decided to censor whatever they say is “disinformation”, which by the way is not identifiable without using biases. DuckDuckGo is now no better than Google. As a matter of fact, google is a much superior engine, due to all that it offers. Those of us looking for a substitute that offers what DuckDuckGo has always offered are quickly running out of alternatives. I’m going to try the Brave Browser. DuckDuckGo, if you ever decide to offer the browser that you did, please advertise it so that I can maybe come back. It’s been nice but see ya.
Exact opposite of Google… Not missing a drop of the quality. So far, in my one week of using this platform, I’m impressed with the functionality of this browser, and I’ve missed almost nothing from the Google platform. If they come out with a replacement for Gmail… Which wouldn’t be hard given that I’m using Apple devices in the Google functions really don’t do much for me, then I’m gone for sure. Further, I’ll continue to look at what the platform does easy antithesis of Google, by not banking but sharing any of my data. The site goes as far as to show you each time any tech tries to access your personal information when you log into a website, blocking both advertisements as well as Record‘s banking. Thanks DuckDuckGo… Keep up the good work!
Too easy to close tabs by mistake. Overall my favorite mobile browser. Really like the privacy features & rating displayed for each site. A serious interface problem is that when many tabs are open, the X to close a tab fills most of each tab -- thus making it WAY too easy to close a tab when you actually are trying to select & view it. I'd like a settings option to turn OFF the X's in the tab bars. That would remove the danger of closing tabs accidentally. At the cost of having to open the "all tabs" view to close a tab. Well worth the (optional if it's a setting) tradeoff. Another way to address the same problem would be to reduce the number of tabs displayed at a time, so that the X-to-close icons never occupy more than (say) 30% of the tab size. Not as safe as an option to remove the X's entirely, but preserves the ability to close tabs with a single tap. Maybe the 30% criterion could even be a setting, so each user could make their own tradeoff. If set to 0%, the X's are simply disabled. Just some ideas for addressing an interface problem that has begun to plague me. Thanks for a great mobile browser!
DuckDuckGo Has Changed For The Worse. When DuckDuckGo first came out, it was almost like a godsend. A search engine that actually values user privacy to combat the tech giant, Google? You know what they say, usually when things appear too good to be true, it’s because they are. DuckDuckGo is no different. They block anything they deem to be “misinformation”, they are funded by outside sources, they are propped up by Google, etc. Your data is no longer safe while browsing on it. I don’t trust it anymore. The sad thing is, there really is no safe browser/search engine out there these days. Google and DuckDuckGo will sell your data to outside sources, spy on you, etc. and they’ll do it in a heartbeat. At the moment, your best bet for navigating through the barrage of noise from the fake news media is the Brave browser and even that isn’t perfect. With all of that being said, proceed with caution when using this once reliable search engine!
Just wish there was a home page. I love Duckduckgo. I've been using it for some time now as my default search engine in both browsers I use on my computer, so naturally I've been using the app for searches from my phone. I have to say, the only real feedback I have for the developers is that there is no home page. This sounds like a minor thing, but in fact loading an old query I already found the answer to makes the app needlessly slow and cumbersome to open. The wait is annoying in and of itself but also it delays the current search I'm enlisting. I have yet to find myself wanting to revisit the previous search I performed, maybe some rare occasion. What I would much rather see is a simple, fast home page load with cute duckie greeting me. It would make 3 stars into 5. 🌟Thanks for a great, private search engine and the continual development!
Great! Much better than Safari. Got very frustrated with Safari. Web pages would constantly refresh. When trying to read an article, it would load partially, then I’d wait, and wait. The Read More button would respond only after multiple clicks. Hit back button, refresh and wait some more. As battery drains. None of this with Duck-Duck-Go. Performance is soooo much better! Not to mention the privacy. So easy to clear data. Website privacy ratings are clearly displayed. Multiple tabs organized a little different, but good. Lots of settings I hasn’t fully explored. My only quibble so far is that I’d like to be able to organize favorites into folders. And I wish I could make this my default browser. But I think that’s an iOS version issue. Very happy so far!
Lovely app to prevent censorship of sites. Thank you DuckDuckGo for remaining politically neutral, and neutral pertaining to people who desire to look into natural health remedies. I’ve noticed that for the last few months... Google has changed. Their search results don’t pull up things immediately, or at all... that don’t fit a particular narrative. I was naive and believed that I would never see censorship of the internet in my lifetime. But censoring results, and only showing things that promote one particular party or Big Pharma really makes the searches less colorful. ONE search through DuckDuckGo and all the normal results were immediately restored. A colorful world is so much better than a bland, boring one, where everyone is fed the same chicken meat. Let us pick out our own chicken bones; we won’t choke, we’re adults... thus, we now use DuckDuckGo.
Disappointed. I’ve been using duck duck go as my main search engine on my phone for a while, and I’ve loved it, and recommended it to all my friends. That being said, I am highly disappointed to discover that they are now changing their search algorithm to de-rank “misinformation” due to a current geopolitical conflict. I understand wanting correct information on the topic to be out there, but I feel that the information given out by the engine should stay as it was, and by de-ranking search results that do not agree with your views you are no better than any other search engine. And you have also commented that it is to prevent scam sites and the like, but I have had little to no issues with those in the past usage of this app. I will be suspending my use of this app until a change back to normalcy is made. It pains me because I loved seeing the duck every time I searched.
I’m done with google also. I didn’t even know browsers like this existed. Sick and tired of meaningless advertising. Like when I search for hvac repair or parts I get no stop advising some even block the page I’m reading just about every search I do it always haunts me. Google should understand just because I search something doesn’t mean I wanna buy it if I wanna buy it I know how to find it. I have nothing to hide I just don’t want every single page I go to asking me to click yes if I’m ok with them collecting cookies. This data collection is getting old quick I knew FB was poison from the first week I used it over 10 years ago and deleted it people thought I was weird for not having FB now most of those same people are deleting FB also.
Useless. This is by far the most useless browser available. Literally none of the issues I listed below occur on any other browser in the App Store, so I’m deleting this app once and for all. Don’t trust all the fake reviews, because in no way does this app have a 4.9 rating based on real accounts (not fake users generated in bot farms). - Favorites and bookmark management is a nightmare and makes zero sense. Why create a bookmark when adding a favorite, but then not removing the bookmark when removing the favorite. And if adding a favorite, why not present the edit option like you do with bookmarks? The logic behind this is the biggest offender of stupid decisions made. - If trying to read through a long web page, when you begin to scroll, the top and lower bar auto-hide, but when you pause to continue reading, the bars pop back down which alters the location of the webpage. Absolutely unnecessary and annoying when trying to read anything. - Unable to authenticate on any webpage I have a login for, page just hangs. - I’m convinced this browser is what’s causing constant cloud flare verifications, because using other browsers, I have no issues. - Pages and videos render so much slower compared to other browsers. - And as others have stated, privacy is an utter joke and complete sell out.
Some advice and honestly.. They are true to their word on basically everything. However on obstacle you may run into is they are so true to their word if you forget what you searched or looked up but wish to find it because it was so much fun and/or so informative you won’t find it on this search engine. What they tell you is honest but don’t rely on them. Because while they don’t track and while they block tracking if you use Google to enter into here they can still watch you. Enter them directly and you will be fine. So yes some obstacles are there but once you over come them (both the easy and the hard) your time will be well spent. I am happy with my choice.
Danger of ads. Google analyzes ads to make sure the ads aren’t for malware and other viruses posing as utility and social apps, duckduck go has a very slack review process for ads which allows fake companies just trying to get into your computer to flourish on this platform. The desktop screen didn’t have much differentiation between the ad and regular search results, a faded yellow AD icon in the website description while the feed looks identical to the rest of the search results. You’ll have to double check your search results to make sure you’re not entering a dangerous website. This caused problem for my brother when he got a new computer and I noticed the discord icon had a white border around it, and found out it was the first result under “discord” in duck duck go search. Usually companies spend ads on search for their own products, but if it wasn’t a red flag to duck duck go that a fake company was leading the advertising on an established brand, it’s a red flag to me that duck duck go is not safe for browsing
Fixed all my issues.. Alright so I’ve used the app for awhile now after the last update and haven’t had any problems with it. Everything is smooth and I haven’t had any bugs. I love the app I think it is amazing the way it is I feel like my browsing is quick and secure. Now, I support the app fully and would honestly like this to be the only browser that I use. I use it a lot but there’s still one thing I’d like to see if you guys can do if/when you’re ready. I’d like to be able to download things and use DuckDuckGo with other apps instead of having to “open in safari”. I know people would like the page they were on to open right up in safari but I don’t wanna have to leave your app at all I like it a lot more than safari and would love to replace it entirely with DuckDuckGo. 👍🏻
I mean, it’s good for privacy... I am actually a big fan of DuckDuckGo and your views on privacy. Unfortunately even with amazing browsers like this one, we still cannot keep our privacy because of companies like, Google, and Facebook. I only used this browser to keep them away but I realized they were still able to keep tabs on everyone, even if they used private, secure browsers. Now I did eventually moved on to a different browser, for the reason that, your browser is slow. I know it’s not my internet connection because I tested it on one of the “Super speed” browsers and they worked much better in speed. I love your browser but it is just to slow. For now I’m going to use a different browser that has security against hackers, and malware. Maybe I will redownload it if it gets faster.
Truth. I’ve been using google as long as I know because it was just what we used. I’m advocating for freedom of information, expression and speech and I came to your search engine to get a balanced view on world affairs. I will continue to scrutinize your search engine for facts and falsehoods but so far, I am impressed. Mark Zuckerberg is using google as a technocrat to change the works as we know it. He’s censored any real news and replaced it with fake news and I never believed in that label !!! Our mainstream media is not be trusted as they are owned by the pharmaceutical companies... and they own us. Thank you for being more transparent and helpful in getting balanced information to us. Please don’t disappoint me!!! 🙏🏼
One day of light use made the decision clear.. I had used the Duck Duck Go search engine for years but always passed on the browser for several reasons: 1)because I thought it would be just another redundant app 2) I thought that the features would mostly have to do with hiding browsing history like previous privacy enhanced browsers I had used 3) I thought that safari probably had all the privacy settings that I really needed. I could not have been more wrong. The privacy features finally make it easy to handle cookies, redirects, and of course history in ways that make much more sense to me and are much more comprehensive than I have seen while keeping it all very simple. Would highly recommend.
This is it My Peeps. Oh boy, I have downloaded and deleted Google so many times, I keep trying to give it the benefit of the doubt but they keep failing. I don’t allow any app to have access to my phones microphone except Siri but the other night I asked my husband if we could go look at the new 2023 GMC Trucks on our dealership lot, later that evening I had an onslaught of Ads for 2023 trucks!!! Goodbye Google and HELLO DuckDuckGo. I absolutely love this search engine for my iPhone 11. Simple and the ability to delete everything when finished using is the best thing ever. There are some websites where they block a few things but you can press the allow tab (for example-QVC or HSN) and any pop ups will be disabled. Try it and see for yourself.
Happy for the extra level of privacy!. Before today’s vitriol times in the US, I never thought that I needed “Privacy” when sharing my opinion, thoughts or even anything about my life to a certain degree. However, with the new age of war being the Information Age and foreign countries invading our politics, schools, businesses and personal lives, I needed to up my private information better. It has been extremely alarming how political haters are know publicly sharing your name, address, place of business, where your kids go to school for them to receive threats too, etc. Not to mention with so many entities and security type of companies getting hacked than I definitely need any additional barriers between them and me as I can possibly get.
Absolute Privacy, Bad Search Results. DuckDuckGo is NOT an alternative to Google yet. The result quality isn’t there. In 10 years it might be, but it will take time for their AI to learn. The rankings algorithm(s) are far behind Google from providing the actual results I’m looking for. Maybe that’s not their forte, and the reason to use DuckDuckGo is for sheer privacy. Personally, I don’t care if you use my history to serve me relevant (organic) results. I just don’t want my data passed around between various platforms. Web analytics should still work so webmasters can monitor their traffic, I just don’t want to see what I just searched for pop up as an Instagram ad the next time I check my feed. DuckDuckGo provides absolute privacy, but in doing so it sacrifices UX and the ability to solves a users problem. I’d love to see them arrive at a happy medium.
Good browser with an ineffective UI. I like duck duck go for being privacy forward and the browser works just fine. As every browser on iOS works fine as they all use the same rendering engine. So one of the key distinguishing features is the UI. Unfortunately I can’t say DDG’s UI is particularly efficient. The bottom bar contains 5 icons. Three of them are useless for my use cases and a waste of space. For going back and forth I can rely on swipe gestures. And the emergency close button I’ve honestly never used. I am not saying these buttons are useless for everyone but things like accessing bookmarks etc. is all hidden behind the three dot context menu. Especially switching between favorite/bookmarks is slow. Why can’t people customize their UI? So 3 stars for privacy and 0 stars for a subpar UI. I hope I can change my score again in the future.
Huge disappointment. With the just-announced decision by DDG to manipulate search results (as part of the west’s response to the geopolitical conflict in Ukraine), my once-hopeful perception of DDG has been downgraded — in direct proportion to DDG’s hypocrisy. Yes, I know how DDG has attempted to rationalize the deployment of those manipulative search algorithms, claiming that content moderation (euphemism for State-sponsored censorship) is separate from DDG’s purported commitment to protecting user privacy. This rationale may suffice for perfunctory fulfillment of the letter of DDG’s promises to users; but it’s a violation of the spirit of those promises. My decision to choose DDG as my default browser was based on my preference, as a full-fledged mature adult capable of thinking for myself, to … well, THINK FOR MYSELF! — rather than being given only a State-sanctioned subset of available sources of input from which to form my own conclusions based on my own critical thinking. DDG’s recent move to restrict search results is an insult to my intelligence and a betrayal of my trust. I am, as I write, downloading Brave onto my device. I already have it on my laptop. And, as of this afternoon, Brave will be my default browser, and the DDG app will have been unceremoniously removed from my mobile device. Carry on with your myopic censorship deployment, DDG, if you so choose. But I want nothing to do with it.
