DuckDuckGo, Duck.ai, & VPN Comments & Reviews 2026
The best iOS browser for my needs.. Apple, I can’t believe it! I wrote a review and saved it. I then accidentally touched the star rating and discovered that that erased my review!!!! Seriously? Duckduckgo’s search file result handling is the best and most intelligent of all iOS browsers I’ve found. I tried Firehand, Kobe, Aloha (which is exactly what I did with it), Safari, etc. So many browsers copy Safari and the frustrating and inferior split screen design. The one thing I’d like to see changed is viewing the output of a file search for images when you select View File. That you would be to be able to swipe laterally and still to be able to navigate through the image search output without having to exit View File to do that. PS - I almost forgot. Thank you for displaying the image files resolution so you don’t waste your time opening low resolution images! 👍
10+Yrs & Still No Basic “NIGHT or READER MODE”. ….FOR THOSE OF US WITH VISION PROBLEMS. Why is it that nearly every other competing iOS browser offers the built-in WebKit night mode. You can simply copy it from Firefox iOS or even Brave, or a whole list of other browsers that have all shown that they truly care about their users, who suffer from any kind of visual impairment or disability. DDG I’ve been waiting for this basic feature/function as a day one user who installed you’re app the very first day that it was made available for the iPhone. Which is why I say that I’ve been waiting for over 10 years for you guys to please have some compassion and at least respond and explain yourself. Or maybe you have and you can simply point me to that information. Sorry, one last thing that I almost forgot; Apple’s iOS built in “smart invert“ does not function smoothly at all, and should not be what DuckDuckGo uses as an excuse to not add this very basic feature that nearly all other browsers already have. I’m not saying you have, but just in case.
Want some Privacy?. So, a few years back I spotted this on a family members laptop. Being curious I asked what was up with the duck. I was then informed that it doesn’t track us, and my intrigue was peaked. Once I downloaded it I noticed something absolutely remarkable: Google not only tracks us, which we all know, but it also specifically hides certain results. I won’t get into the nitty gritty of it, but know that if you want accurate information and true privacy and security: DuckDuckGo is the best way to go for search engines. One of my favorite features is the fact I can burn everything when I’m done, which I do regardless of what I search for. Tired of those ads that you get based on your searches? Want some Privacy? Download DuckDuckGo and save yourself the headache of worrying about it. For added security, check out Proton mail, which follows the same ideology but for you email.
A simply private and elegant mobile experience. This app is just everything a mobile browser could need, and it only gets better with each update! First things first, this app looks like it was made with the mobile user in mind. One glance at the interface, and with a simple tutorial of just the most basic buttons, anyone could use this browser with ease. Not too many buttons to overwhelm the user, but not too few configurations to displease the power user. My favorite part of this privacy browser has to be the powerful flame which will wipe clean all the tabs that you may have open, allowing for you to start all over again with a new session full of your greatest searches. The latest update, as of this review, has added the feature to modify the splash effect of the flame to be a cooler “burn” effect. The developers are doing a great job maintaining this app with many great additions in each new release. Definitely an app for people who want peace of mind and privacy ensured with every search. Kudos to the team at DuckDuckGo for such an amazing app!
Great with One Weakness. I genuinely enjoy using DuckDuckGo. The default search engine is comparable to Google, and while I’m in a weird stage where I can’t afford a VPN it’s nice to have a browser that makes me feel at least somewhat protected while using the Internet and it is easy to use if you’re already familiar with Safari or other existing mobile browsing apps. It does have one downside however. There’s no pop-up blocking functionality at all, or at least not one that I’ve been able to easily find after a year of using the app, and it’s kind of disappointing because there’s not a way to add extensions and some apps have pop ups that I don’t know about and there’s nothing I can do to stop that. Since DuckDuckGo is so privacy focused it would be nice if the app had features to protect me from malicious pop-ups. If it does exist and I don’t know about it after combing the settings, they should definitely do something to make it more easily accessible by the user.
They’re downranking sites based on their feelings. Sadly, DDG has decided to downrank sites based on “disinformation” which we all know is define by companies that jump on board as anything they FEEL doesn’t match up to the lying news. They’ve lied to Americans for decades and yet, people don’t learn. Now, a once trusted site and company has decided to do the same. Whatever they decide is dis or misinformation, they don’t trust you and have to add their two cents in to control what you see. Propaganda much? They believe what they think is correct and you’re too dumb to see through lies and so they must control your searches to keep you in check with what they want you to see. In the trash goes this app as well as their search engine. Everyone should be wanting privacy but also to find and use companies that do not insert their politics nor feelings into everything. Maybe DDG will change their minds and stay neutral. Companies never learn their lesson though. DDG claims they’re not going political but then says they downgrade sites of lower quality? LOL That’s their excuse of removing whatever they choose is “disinformation”. This is a joke.
Just Duck It! Good riddance Google you won’t be missed!. I’m so happy to get Google and Facebook out of my life once and for good. It’s like quitting smoking. You feel so much better after doing so. DDG is a breath of fresh air. I fully stand by companies that are for the people in helping the fight to restore our privacy and rights. Which is getting to be a bigger concern as technology is moving forward. We all live in the Information Age and we need to protect it. Hope to see more companies stepping up like DDG is. With all that said, I would like to see optimizations made to take full support of the bigger screen on the iPhone XS Max. I’ve told all my friends and family about DDG and they all love it. The interface is extremely clean, sleek and sexyyyyy! It even has dark mode that you can choose under themes and you can pretty much customize the overall look and feel of it also! Love that feature.
Don’t trust DDG Use TOR with Onion Browser. From a friend~ Learn Boolean search terms and use them Your searches are censored You are being directed to sites that don’t contain pertinent information or they are commercial purpose sites. Your history is being recorded What you are allowed to view are commercials in disguise The internet is no longer free and MOST importantly absolutely everything can and is being passively recorded. That history everything you buy sell look at read about, every address phone # ticket bank account any license you’ve had marriage children parents life heath job title mortgage credit card every where you are and have been holding that smart phone or in your vehicle is being tracked. All perfectly legal and your consent isn’t needed despite what you’ve read. We have no rights of privacy.
I feel so much safer online! :]. I've only had the app for a few days, but it's been an absolute dream. I was skeptical when I first heard about it; who would trust a smaller search engine over the tried and true Google? It was something ingrained into my psyche, I guess— although the hassles about privacy were starting to worry me. But I am ecstatic that I made the switch; I'm finding proper answers to my searches online, with no ads at the top of results. I can clear my tabs and data with the press of an easily accessible button (Which is great for my safety at home! It's a long story...), and the blocking of trackers is incredible! I might just be easily impressed or something, but I love that DuckDuckGo notifies you that they've blocked trackers, and even tells you the names of what they blocked! Google doesn't even bat an eye when you get trackers! I also find it extremely credible to DDG's prioritization of privacy that I have yet to find something equivalent to a search history or incognito mode. A week ago, I would've felt nervous without those options, but I actually feel quite comfortable! Especially after having done a bit of research on the company and their business model. Thanks to the DDG team for making such a wonderful, smooth, and safe online experience. Keep up the good work! :]
Hate new minimized grid!. July 21, 2020 UPDATE: Thank you for putting back in the option for viewing tabs!! Much better on the eyes. Only thing I noticed now is that the tabs all look alike except maybe a small icon on the left. Before I could tell what the site was by the coloration or other distinguishing features. Now I have to go slower and stop and look. If you can make the left icon bigger/ more distinct or incorporate easy to see color banners (whatever) that can allow you to recognize the site it would be very helpful. Also with the new grid ‘box’ tabs I found it very easy to accidently delete a tab when scrolling. . I couldn’t see a way to reverse it. But I have to tell you - you were amazingly quick at addressing the issue. Bravo!!! Now if only AAA understood that I would reinstall their auto app...... =============================== OMG! When I minimized a page before I could easily scroll through the other pages to get to another tab as the tab heading was easy to see and narrow (top to bottom). NOW I see these big fat boxes that are side by side and I can’t just scroll down I always have to look left and right as well. It really bothers my eyes and slows me down. Ugh. It is MUCH more difficult now, not in any way easier. But this is an easy fix! Give people the option in settings to choose the layout!!! And for goodness sake please do it quickly! Thanks.
iPhone 13 controls everything I do with this app.. If I try to upload an image into Google Images with this browser, my iPhone 13 intervenes and prevents me from doing so. A message window opens and stays “Would you like to leave DuckDuckGo to view this content?” To answer, I’m given 2 option buttons to tap, CANCEL and OPEN. If I tap open, it takes me to the App Store to download Google. If I tap CANCEL, the screen goes blank momentarily, then the same message window reappears, again Ana again, over and over. It is impossible to stop this from happening, and I cannot find any setting within the app to prevent it. I’ve given up. No matter what I do with this app, my iPhone 13 knows what I’m doing and at any time it can stop me from doing what I’m attempting to do. Oddly enough when using my older iPad I can upload images to Google Images and the iPad does not interfere. I’m stumped. I have no idea what the problem is with my iPhone 13 and the DuckDuckGo app, but it is very frustrating. Can anyone help?
Far too few people use the best browser available.. “Far too few” really means “not enough” to be sure. I rarely endorse apps and even more rare is an endorsement I make for a tech/IT/web product. I clearly and vehemently can make a case for every internet traveler to want -nay NEED to use this browser. Yes, I assume that everyone needs (and wants) to protect their privacy when on the web. I don’t think that’s a far-fetched assumption to make. I’ve used this browser quite a bit now and after previous frustrating attempts to enhance my privacy by using other, more popular browsers’ cumbersome privacy settings, can readily say that DuckDuckGo’s offering is the most intuitive, well laid out, and quick browser I’ve used in the over 25 years I’ve been an IT professional. The browser has an almost minimalist look and feel. That doesn’t mean that it is without varied features tried-and-true and some I wished I’d had long ago. I will be installing DuckDuckGo‘s browser on production machines at the office and clients as well. (After I verify any legality issues ($) therein of course) Thanks DuckDuckGo -jbl
More Online Choice. I’d heard about DuckDuckGo a few times, but not being very tech savvy, I didn’t know how or even why I should try it. After an unsuccessful search on a popular search engine already set on my phone, I looked up the DuckDuckGo app. and downloaded it to my phone. There is a tutorial that prompts you the first time you use it. I entered the topic I was trying to research. Oh my gosh, first there were three other companies trying to spy on my activities. Be informed people, it doesn’t matter how innocent your search is, people are watching where you go online. Then I was totally pleased with the new websites that were popping up suddenly. Choice. It’s about choice and receiving more information of different views. I’m a college graduate with 38 years of experience in my field. I know how to wade through documents and make an informed opinion. I’m loving this app.
It’s great. I’ve recently switched from google to DuckDuckGo and I’ve gotta say it’s improved so much since I first used it several years ago. The reason it has 4 stars instead of 5 is that it could use a lot of features present in other search engines like google. Features at the top of my list as most desired are: —Translate pages (make it available EVERYWHERE please!) —Ability to customize fonts (I don’t have the best vision so being able to customize the fonts on all sites across the web would be immensely helpful.) —Be able to swipe up to get rid of the search bar (I know you can just scroll down to get rid of it however sometimes I don’t have enough space to and giving us the option to swipe up would be great.) —Make changing the theme permanent ( I don’t know if everyone has this problem but my device has the dark/light theme switch each day and night and it changes for DuckDuckGo as well. However, I don’t want a dark theme when browsing so I disable it but it always seems to be back every time and I don’t know how to permanently get rid of it. —When closing tabs, make it less glitchy (whenever I quickly swipe a tab closed it glitches a little before leaving so I hope that can be smoothed out a bit.) I’ll be sure to change my review to 5 stars once these are addressed, thanks!
Privacy metrics are great!. I’ve been blind for a couple years. I’ve been writing and reporting bad political decisions cents 2015. I’ve been doing this on Facebook. Since I’m blind, I use things like voice to text. I was using the Facebook application on my Apple iPhone. My actual texts were being partially deleted while I was editing voice mistakes. I could be working on the first line and part of the third line with disappear, sometimes specific words for disappear making the sentence look or cost me to look ignorant or foolish. I start using DuckDuckGo and the problem My actual texts were being partially deleted while I was editing voice mistakes. I could be working on the first line and part of the third line with disappear, sometimes specific words for disappear making the sentence look or cost me to look ignorant or foolish. I deleted the Facebook app and start using DuckDuckGo and the problem completely disappeared.
I want to like it. I really do. I’ve been using it for several months now. Unfortunately I am just about at my wits end. Every single solitary page I ever load ever ever ever refreshes after 30 to 60 seconds. Maybe I could handle a refresh after one or two seconds but I will be halfway through logging into something or making a post and Bam it refreshes me and I have to start over. If I were just casually reading different websites maybe it wouldn’t be a big deal but I can’t tell you how many hundreds of forms I’ve had to fill out at least two and sometimes three or four times. Just load the stupid page! I have about learned that I have to wait a good while after every page I load to make sure that it’s not going to refresh me. I get that maybe you’re blocking cookies are trackers and maybe that’s why but it’s extremely annoying to have to start over whatever I’m doing EVERY SINGLE TIME. Also “feature” or not I really really really hate that “new tab” button. I accidentally hit it multiple times a day. I also don’t like not having a good history back button. Sometimes I lose a page and then I can never go back to where I was and I have to start my searches all over again.
Review by a 45 year Programmer. Unfortunately they will never catch Google, which makes me sad as a ten year user. USA User and Programmer. First problem is being out of the UK, trying to compete in the US Market. Not even remotely close. Come on guys, I WANT you to succeed! Honestly you will have to employ far smarter Engineers and Programmers/Coders. Scale 1–10 against Google who I hate and refuse to use? You’re a 1/One. Have to do better guys if you desire to compete in the US Market. If it’s a cost thing, which it always is, consider outsourcing to dark web coders/programmers. Tho known for dishonesty, they will at the very least, get you all up to American 2024 standards. I had to search ten times for the true owner on a HORSE in an American TV series. I never got to the true owner. That should speak volumes to you Engineers. You simply must do waay better. I want you to succeed. We HATE GOOGLE/Bezos! But to be the best in America requires a reality check on how you compete against the known best. Sadly, you’re sorely lacking. Come on UK Engineer’s! I am rooting for you. And have given you TEN years of my valuable time using only Duckduckgo. You MUST CATCH UP guys ok? Love and truths from America…smile. Get a Venture Capitalist for goodness sakes. I really want you to WIN!!
Recent updates reducing flexibility. 3 stars because its still one of the best ways to preserve privacy online, but the latest updates have made it harder to customize key functions of the app and its getting worse with time. For example, search suggestions now default to showing open tabs first rather than the URL for the site Im trying to navigate to, which is often buried below several levels of suggestions on the drop down list. For a session with multiple tabs open, I typically have a reason for leaving them open (eg recipes, articles I want to read later, etc), so this function makes browsing less streamlined than in previous versions. A first world problem but yet another sign that apps seem to get generally worse with time. The early versions of DDG were awesome. If we're talking updates, it would also be nice to create block lists within the app to make it easier to avoid undesirable or distracting sites and to help manage screentime.
Privacy is a top priority. I don’t wright reviews but I really like this even thought I don’t really have anything to hide I think that if we don’t show these companies that we care about are privacy we will live in future/society we’re ads and tracks haunt us all and influence use. Which is why I really recommend this app it doesn’t track you, it block/prevents trackers from tracking you, doesn’t have a filter bubble that gives you customized results kinda like propaganda and discrimination and lastly it gives helpful tips to keep your privacy in check. If it weren’t for DuckDuckGo I would have never know that the share my location setting doesn’t work most of the time. You might be think how does DuckDuckGo make money the way do that is from affiliate links basically when you buy something online in DuckDuckGo some of that money goes DuckDuckGo I hole that this has convinced you to try out DuckDuckGo and thanks for reading this long.
Great App if set-up correctly.. Great App as long as you make sure there are no files in the background giving it directions. Default settings must be altered to ensure privacy or as least making it hard enough to access for the criminals not to try to obtain your info. As with any app check it against the app privacy report. If you have any apps connecting to over 30 domains or domains that list several of your apps you need to block the rouge domains. If you care about your data don’t leave any credentials or login data in the browser. Use a secure password manager with 2FA. I am assuming if you were looking for a private browser alternative like this that you care about what’s being collected. I give the app 4 stars due to the issue with website data being added in the background without a good explanation or direction on securing your info.
Search functionality. I love the app, the security, and the transparency in exactly how and when I’m being protected via the small icon in the address bar. When a site loads, for a moment it shows that yes it has successfully blocked a tracker and shows who. I have one small feature that I wish was different. Unsure if this is even something y’all can do or not but her goes. So on my iPhone, when I pull down and search I see that it’s searching my phone but I have it set to give the option to search the web as the last option. Could yall give the option for DuckDuckGo be an option to search the web since it is my default browser? Unsure if that is possible or not on yalls end but it would be greatly appreciated. Several times I realized that I am not in fact on the DuckDuckGo browser.. I’d be on Safari.? This is the culprit, unfortunately I can’t find any way to enable this via my phone settings so I wonder if it is possible to add it to the list of searchable apps for my query. With my download of the DuckDuckGo app like I have as well.
Faithful Customer. I have used DDG for 13+ years and just getting around to rating this superb search engine. I have tried several others but quickly turned back to DDG as the only reliable simple to use product that I trust. I’ve raved to family, friends and acquaintances about about switching to DDG for protection and increased security of their personal information. Ironically only an Apple supervisor level customer service representative is the only person I know is as faithful and appreciative of DDG as myself. That mystifies and gratifies me so now when I tout DDG every chance I get, I will tag in that little piece to press the point. I follow the struggles DDG the greatest protector of our privacy takes on against the greatest offender of our privacy, “G” - no need to spell it out we all know who that is. God bless DDG and all working with them! May you be rewarded and victorious in your recent legal battle in the courts on behalf of all DDG subscribers.
Great!. I’m just happy that a browser like this exists. It lets you delete any data associate with it without deleting the app. You know when you upload a big file by using a third party browser, most browsers won’t the delete that file after finishing uploading. So the size of the browser balloons because the files add up. There’s no way to delete those files unless you literally uninstall the app. This is the first third party browser that lets you delete so easily. Safari lets you delete it too, but you had to go into settings. I wonder why most third party browsers won’t delete those finished upload files? The only way to clear it is to uninstall. Most of them delete the cache and password, etc. but not the upload files. Like you have to uninstall, which is annoying. Once again, I’m just glad this exists.
Great So Far. Summary: DuckDuckGo has an excellent search algorithm from what I can tell. It is fast, efficient, friendly and helpful. It doesn’t track my searches for someone else for study or profit. Detailed Explanation: I started using DuckDuckGo earlier this year (2020). I highly recommend it for the following reasons. 1) While I have not tested all of the privacy features, based upon the original recommendation given to me to use DuckDuckGo, I like not being tracked for someone else’s Data Analytics exercise, especially for free to them. 2) It’s performed my desired searches well: standard, suggested, alternative completions are given, which have helped me occasionally refine my search string or phrase. The hits are mostly “dead on,” giving me the wanted content; yes, some alternatives may not be what I am desiring. However, that is the contextual nature of knowledge often, and the problem of searching in general: refinement & convergence ability. Extra Info./Suggestions: iPhone & iPad tested — On my iOS enabled devices’ main options bar, I swapped out the Safari icon with DuckDuckGo—that’s how much I like it! I put Safari on the home screen, if I ever need it. My Mac also has DuckDuckGo installed on it as the default search engine, which is where I first installed DuckDuckGo after using it on a PC at work.
DuckDuckOuch, told ya to duck!. You thought you could just surf all you want and nobody would know. You sneak off to sites in the 4 corners of the globe, just where you should not be seen publicly! You were caught sleuthing where your girl/boyfriend told you not to go! Just had to go there, didn’t you? Now turn around and say, “Thank you, GOOGLE!” You have been betrayed! Now you have all those pop ups and unwanted emails. Serves ya right. Should have gone with DUCKDUCKGO from the beginning. No blood trail for anyone to follow! DDG says you surf without a leash, then there is no leash. Your privacy is especially important to you and equally important to DDG in helping you keep it that way. They help ensure your privacy remains private. Yes, a bit getting used to at first, but when you realize GOOGLE had you on a leash, you’ll happily turn to DDG. DDG is my go to for all things personal and private.
The Full Internet .. Once upon a time, the internet was a place for free thoughts, no matter what they were. You could search the internet and get all results. You could make up your own mind and decide which of the results of your search were good or bad. You could think for yourself. Then this insidious company named google ,decided that you weren’t smart enough to decide which search results were what you wanted. So this evil company said,” We know better than everyone else and we will only return search results that they approve of or have been paid for.” All other information that’s out there is irrelevant and they can’t read others opinions unless we say that it’s ok. If you are a free thinker and don’t want to be told what you should think, read, know and want to see all and decide for yourself, Delete google as a search engine and use Duck Duck Go. Your search will return all of the internet, not just what an evil company wants you to read.
For those who want privacy above all else. I will be honest. I tried DuckDuckGo search many times and always seemed to go back to google. Then recently I start doing research into data privacy (or lack there of) and realized just what is happening behind the scenes when you visit websites. So I made the decision to try DuckDuckGo again, this time with privacy as the focus. Come to find out that’s all I needed. This company is dedicated to changing the way your data is managed and I’m loving it. Skip ahead to downloading this app and the transition from Firefox was a breeze. This browser catches so much I didn’t even know existed on the sites I regularly visit. It’s simple and easy to use and I’m sure it’s only going to get better with time. Take back your privacy and give it a chance. You won’t regret it.
Missing one thing.... I like it. I’m concerned about privacy, and DDG seems to be great. I use different browser for different purposes, and DDG is my general use one. I just wish it had a setting like Safari where you can turn on the option to automatically request desktop sites all the time, which is the only reason I’m looking to try a different browser for my general use purposes. Update: Compared to Google, the search results kinda stink; price to pay to an extent leaving Google’s model of making us their product for financial gain, but DDG still returns good results, just doesn’t hold a candle to Google’s search abilities. Never using another Google device ever again if I don’t have to. Safe search settings continuously reset. Could use settings to close all tabs when closing the app without clearing anything else. Love the quick fire at the bottom and the ability to choose tiled tabs or compact list of tabs.
Good, but think twice if you keep a lot of tabs open.. It’s a decent browser, not much to say there. Managing cookies automatically is a huge benefit. I have a lot of problems with the way it handles multiple tabs though. Closing a tab will more often than not show the next open tab as a new/blank tab instead. This requires tapping on the tab to reload the already open webpage and properly display what’s actually there. Additionally using the zoomed out view for tab switching almost always shows a blank image for each tab. When combined with the fact that switching to a tab shifts the entire tab bar as far right as it will go makes navigating between multiple tabs inefficient and extremely annoying. Finally, a pretty big privacy issue. Opening the browser via a link will cause that address to remain visible (and able to be reloaded) even after clearing with the burn button, requiring a second press.
It keeps crashing or something.... I love the duck duck go app! It’s good with privacy and doesn’t track you like google etc. One problem though is that so I’ll download it for example and through the whole day it I can use it, but the next day I lock on it and the loading screen comes up for about 10 seconds and then it backs out of the app no matter how many times I try and it’s like as if it were kicking me off of the app and it’s really annoying. I even restarted my phone and it didn’t let me on so I had to re-install it and thankfully it worked but it then comes back, and I have to go through the whole app introducing itself again. Eventually I got so sick and tired of re-installing the app that I wanted to stop using it but I like how the app works and instead of it going back to the home-screen it saves what you had on last when you get on again, and that’s another thing that I like about it. Please duck duck go fix this I hate uninstalling and then re-installing it again. But in it’s a good app! 👍 I really recommend it!
Too clunky and features feel incomplete in description. I wanna love this, I’ve used it for years but it’s just too clunky. I don’t like having to struggle to effectively open links in new tabs when half the time it doesn’t respond properly. Additionally, there’s no point in “fireproofing” websites because the tabs you want to keep from them disappear when fireproofed away. Maybe it’s me misunderstanding but it says you’ll stay signed in and the data won’t be erased but how can I keep the tabs straight if there’s no history or access for tabs from fireproofed websites. I shouldn’t have to use bookmarks or favorites to get some semblance of a history. There should be fireproofed windows then…I get this is for privacy and privacy in this setting means no history but that’s dumb. What if I was price watching a product and used fireproofing to ensure that exact tab was still active? I just think your descriptions of features needs to be improved.
Overall a good browser. This has been an overall good browser for me. I use it on both my iPhone and iPad. Unfortunately, I can’t give it a five star rating due to recent developments. Since about 4 or 5 updates ago, when I open browser on my phone and begin to type, it spontaneously closes my keyboard after one or two characters and I have to start over. An annoyance to be sure. What really made me deduct a star though is what’s been happening for the last two updates. Every time I conduct a search now, I get a pop up banner at the bottom of the page selling their privacy pro service. I’m not interested in paying $9.99 a month for the service and I certainly don’t want to be asked to sign up every time I conduct a search which is multiple times a day. At this point, I’m debating on whether I should keep using this browser at all.
ALMOST The Perfect Browser…. Everything is great, smooth, fast, secure. But developers…PLEASE add dark mode for the actual web pages which we spend most our time looking at. Dark mode for merely searching is so inadequate to consider this browser having dark mode as advertised. In your main ad upon searching it shows a webpage (wiki) dark themed, but this is not so when using. And when I say dark, I mean completely black, making use of the OLED display, not dark grey! Second to enhancing this effect is a reader mode. This by far is the best tool I have ever used and is why I continue to go back to Safari, Firefox, or Brave. Add these 2 things and I (and I’m sure many others) will look no further. Trust me, I don’t want to have any more browsers than 1! BE THE ONE! Thank you in advance, and thank you for all you do in educating and fighting for well deserved privacy!
An honest choice. Have been in computers since, 1979, the key punch days (we did psychological studies). But now and never fail to be astonished with the way this science/ art has opened up so much of the universe!! In 1984I owned a Compaq! Double disk drive! 256K! Operated a small business with it! Had word processor, spreadsheet, and data base. Did and filed taxes. Actually, sold and it is still in business. Now astronomers are predicting a supernova…with massively increased ability and measurements. (In the last century we marveled at eclipses!). All using the enhancing and being able to project hypothesis ability with this machine power! I certainly didn’t have anything to do with the creation and evolution of the science, but as a consumer, the “power “ predicted has become more than ever conceived, for sure. It changed my life forever. It became my personal career. (And a great printer helped too: had a typewriter that could connect with the computer. Could use any letterhead and create a letter-perfect typed document! And make carbon copies! ). … I still have carbon paper… lol And an actual printed letter is still identifiable from any copy device... the carbons were for verification purposes in those days, 1985, and very effective. {Yeah, all equipment which has “gone with the wind“ - disappeared… I am old…} But here I am explaining why I have written all this. Time to put a wrap on it and get on with Friday!
🤔 ???. Ok upon looking at many reviews on the best browser to use that was safe I downloaded 🦆🦆 Go, but lately I had something very not right going on When I tried to open facebook on the browser I got the message that I was not able to login due to logging in to fast 🤔 ?? Tried even going through bing through 🦆🦆 go and still couldn’t get in, but I tried a couple of other browsers that I have to use and had no problems logging in to my facebook account 🤔 ??? so that means it was the 🦆🦆 go browser that was the problem I just about deleted the app due the situation but I didn’t 🙄 so today I get the notice to update and so I did with no real care to use the app anymore Well I updated the app & now it’s working normally 🤔 ??? 1st thing that comes to mind when something like that happens is the app has been hacked and the hacker is messing around so then I just stop using whatever app it is and even delete them like I did with calendar 📆 So not sure what happened with the update, but I’ll put the app on parole for now and see if it stays working right or goes back to stopping me from accessing facebook again If it does then I’ll just copy my bookmarks then transfer them to a better browser then delete 🦆🦆 Go 🙄 weird how such a browser with good reviews is not making me feel safe using it So for now it’s rating is 3 🌟 that might change either way just going to see how it does from now on
Could be my main browser, but…. This app is really nice and I feel very safe while using it. The setup is laid back and easy to use. Some features I find really enjoyable is when you visit a site it shows how many trackers were deterred and clearing tabs and data is super easy. If you are looking for something to make you feel safe and secure while browsing, this app is for you. The only thing I dislike is this app will ask you to make DuckDuckGo your main browser on iOS, but it will not let you download a PDF and various other files nor does it give the option to save anything to files or iCloud. If you want something to be your main browser but won’t be ok with it not downloading certain files, saving to a cloud, or remembering usernames, passwords and so on… This app is not for you. This app is good for those ducks who go, go, go while staying under the tracker’s radar, but not good for those ducks wanting to settle in, do their main functions while staying under the radar.
I love you for protecting my privacy. I must say the assurances I receive from Duck Duck have been proven to be correct. I know this as a matter of fact because Duck Duck advises me who attempted to view my web requests. Every web site I look for is above board. I am proud of what I look for but just knowing that Duck Duck is protecting Me, unlike Google, who happens to want to know everything I once looked for on there search engine. I only wish that Duck Duck allowed me to speak my request rather than having to type it. I have concluded that Duck Duck hasn’t any Control of who runs the Microphones on these smartphones, tablets, and your laptop or desktop. Therefore, They cannot protect My privacy. Every one is entitled to their views and opinions and no one needs to know what you are looking for. I, wholeheartedly, with confidence ask everyone to try Duck Duck. They will inform you who wants to know what you’re entitled to keep private. I respect their respect to their users. Thanks for reading my review but Duck Duck cannot help you until You use it. It will answer your request as any other search engine. That is to say Google,Safari, AOL, Bing, and others I cannot name at this moment. Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to one and All. God Bless My World and All readers. Try Duck Duck. Nothing will change, what You seek will be readily available to You. An extremely happy person while seeking answers to my many requests. Fred
Good, could use more features. I want to start off by saying this browser is the best single browser I’ve found for the iPad. The bar at the top with buttons and the search bar doesn’t take up a lot of space, and the desktop mode always works well, unlike with Safari. The browser looks nice and is quick. There are two features I feel that are missing, one necessity and one nice to have. First - the reason this review doesn’t have 4 stars - I cant set DuckDuckGo as the default for opening hyperlinks on my iPad. When I click a link in my email and a box shows up it only gives me the choice of safari or chrome, and I don’t even have chrome installed. If and when DuckDuckGo can be set as a default for this, I will update this review to 4 stars gladly. Aside from that, the only feature I feel this browser is missing from pushing it to perfection is some easy gesture based system of switching tabs. The button in the bottom right hand corner is fine and logical, but some more touch friendly and quicker way to switch tabs would make this browser much better. That’s it. If it gets those two features it would be perfect and I would update this review to 5 stars.
Pls bring the old way of putting bookmark and favorite. I like this app a lot and have been using it for a long time. The app is good, convenient and much better then in-phone apps like safari or google. However this recent update on bookmark and favorite has destroyed their convenience. I think it’s better if it was like before where a person can press bookmark, favorite, or both if they want to pick either way or both. The new update where I can favorite a website and it bookmark while I can bookmark and it don’t favorite doesn’t seem to work and every time I had to delete favorite website I also had to go to bookmark to delete it too. It consumes too much time especially for someone like me who has a lot of bookmarks and favorite websites and visits them everyday multiple times so pls bring back the old way of bookmarking and favoriting websites. Thank You
Missing One Thing. Make no mistake about it, this is a five star app. If I could Add one feature, I would add the ability to save a page to the home screen like you can in safari. Even though Duck Duck Go can be set as the default browser, if you open a link saved to your home screen through Safari, the link will still open Safari rather than opening the default browser, whatever it is. Even so, the browser has the usual features like bookmarks and the ability to save to a reading list, but I have many links saved to my home screen and placed in a folder for one touch convenience. I hope this feature is added in the future. I will happily put up with the inability to use bookmarks from my home screen for browsing security. It is fascinating to look at the site security report for each site to see how often content creators are attempting to track us across the Internet and how many trackers there are in the sites we use.
Just a couple things to consider. Search engines notoriously have poor AI’s. And from my experience apparently some of them have no AI. Of course I guess that depends on your perspective. Nonetheless, from a user standpoint, if the search engine cannot understand common English punctuation usage nor discern that words inside quotes should be seen as phrases, “not separate words”; then there is room for improvement! The use of punctuation to define different parameters for a “search”, is in fact old school! It’s been around for a while. Unfortunately search engines for the Internet don’t seem to remember that. And many of us (your clients) have noticed. I can assure you, the first company that develops these capabilities, along with the security and privacy that DuckDuckGo offers (which I’m sure will continue to improve as the future unfolds), will find great success and popularity within the first week. So what if “a week” seems like a slow rise; especially if it leads to a loyal fan club that includes high numbers of subscribers. Also you get the privilege of getting a five star rating from me. 🛖 Get into your think tanks!
Did a little comparison testing!. I put in a few different political questions and searches on both Google and Duck Duck Go, Articles and videos galore showed up on Duck Duck Go where Google pretty much decided the world really doesn’t need to know all about true Election statistics apparently unless it’s coming from their “trusted sites”. In other words, unless it comes from their politically biased news sites and pollsters. Do your own research! And use this app! I’ve changed my Safari to Duck Duck Go also unless I’m curious about whether Google shows the same unbiased info. The answer is almost always NO, they show complete opposite leaning to the left info. Stop giving these radical companies like “Google” “Twitter” and “Facebook” your downloads and essentially making them richer while they censor the voices of all countries of the world, not just the United States!
Duck Duck Go....Every Search = 💯. I find Duck Duck Go my #1 go to, for all of my Searches on the Internet! I get better results than any of the others! It’s better than Chrome, and the others out on the market. I Love that Duck Duck Go is Interactive. It’s also Fun, and when I say Fun, besides my Searches, I get jokes, less advertising ~ (Thank you for that) like who wants adverts, popping up when you’re only interested in what you’re Searching for, Correct? Well for myself, that’s high on my Priority list! I’ve at times, given Chrome 2nd & 3rd Chances, but I’ve always been let down! Therefore Duck Duck Go, is what I’ll always use. Even the updates are Real Updates, always something useful and exciting! I’m giving it the most stars allowed, because the Developers deserve only the Best, since they provide me with the BEST! 💞
BEST BROWSER!. DuckDuckGo is the best browser I have seen since i have been using Google. I have been using google for 5 years and have been enjoying it UNTIL I saw what Google actually does in the background. I freaked out and was telling everybody about it. I was in the app store when i searched for "secure browser" and the first thing to pop up was "DuckDuckGo, secure browser". I clicked on it and saw the reviews and downloaded it right away, and it was so worth it! When i first opened the app, i went to my favorite website and DuckDuckGo showed me how unsecure it really was. DuckDuckGo has a simple and effective browser layout which is simple to navigate. I tried the fire icon and DuckDuckGo completley erased the browsing history and was amazing! I have completley deleted Google Chrome and this app is my main browser now. If you need a browser for anything, use DuckDuckGo, It wont let you down!
Better than Google!. Ok, that’s subjective. There’s pros and cons to each search engine; the major drawback of Google, for me anyway, is that everything is tracked everywhere. They’re constantly collecting information about you and building a profile on you. I’m not paranoid about privacy or anything, but keep in mind, Google isn’t your product, you’re their product, and you’re sold to advertisers. I already use Facebook and Twitter so I’m still tracked, but cutting Google out of that equation gives me a bit of peace of mind. As consumers, we should not be okay with constantly being tracked... do your self a favor and replace Google with DuckDuckGo. The only feedback I have for the devs is to make the keyboard pop up as the app is opened. Why click inside the search bar to bring up the keyboard? The whole reason for opening the app is to start typing something, and therefore the keyboard should already be present. If you must insist on keeping it the way it is, at the least, you can place the search bar in the center so it then becomes a one-handed operation. That’s my only minor complaint.
Overall Good. I like every thing that is provided, and I am glad that the app scans questionable websites to view and inform me of the privacy practices, this can prevent my history from being aggregated and save my device from potentially developing a malicious virus that could overtake my device. And it’s rather simple as well. But I have one complaint: I enjoy the fact that I can courageously venture into the deeper parts of the web to find information for essays, recreation etc., but I would prefer a feature that could be toggled in settings permitting the app to discourage and omit all inappropriate photographs, video, imagery, etc. In other words, I do not want pornographic images to seep into my searches with all the ambiguity in words these days. If you could design a feature to just that, it would be excellent. An even better idea, make the option to create a password as a requirement to turn off the filter, you know, just so that young children will not turn it off and encounter x-rated material. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this.
Best Search Engine. I would consider myself someone who really tries to find the best search engine that is clean, consistent, and has great user protection. I have tried a lot of search engines from Chrome, Brave, Edge, Safari; just to name a few. All of these platforms are not as user friendly as Duck Duck Go in my opinion and don’t make my data privacy and user safety as transparent and easy to use as Duck Duck Go. Having recently jumped on this platform after trying all the others, I can confidently say that I have uninstalled all the other search engines and have solely adopted Duck Duck Go as my main search engine. Beyond just user safety, I am a user that has pretty significant ADHD, meaning that cleaner, direct platforms when it comes to user navigation help me tremendously in staying to task and organizing bookmarks as I progress through the day. Overall, I really have found Duck Duck Go to be a phenomenal search engine in the first month that I have began using it and I honestly won’t go back. Additional Note: I am an IPad User and this review is based on my experience using the IPad app.
So Far So Great. I made DDG the default browser and search engine on my iphone...at least I think I did. I get confused about the browser vs search tool concept but that's me, no fault of DDG. Also I get confused about what browser is open when I've owned a browser. Is there even a way to tell what browser we're in while in a browser....always confusing to me. Anyway....I digress... I'm particularly enjoying the DDG search tool widget I managed to add to my iphone's icons/buttons. Two of the three designs let us add icons/buttons to our fave web links. Helps speed up getting to links instead of needing to scroll through a menu. Would be ideal if there were a two-row DDG search tool widget for placing two rows of our favorite link icons into....but I'm being fussy. Also made DDG my default search tool on my PC. I don't think I found a DDG browser for computers....but I may be wrong...again, I'm confused.
Absolutely Wonderful IOS Browser (and search engine). I have used DuckDuckGo as my default search engine in Safari on my Mac and my iPhone for a couple of years now. Don’t like Google knowing so much about me. It started out being OK but his steadily improved over the two years and now I can hardly tell the difference when I compare it to the Google search engine. Just started using the DuckDuckGo privacy browser on my iPhone a few days ago. It is excellent. Great browsing experience and great privacy. Touch one icon in the browser and your whole history instantly disappears. This requires going through menus in Settings in iOS Safari. And the built ad blocker is superb. Highly recommend the DuckDuckGo iOS privacy browser and the DuckDuckGo search engine for your Mac. I have tried other privacy browsers in the App Store and DuckDuckGo is the best. Couldn’t be happier. My only complaint. I wish DuckDuckGo made a privacy browser for the Mac.
Thanks for your years of dedication!. RE:Updated Second Review. I love DuckDuckGo & have been with you guys from day one. I just wanted to stop in to say thank you again for many years of safe web browsing on mine & my family's Apple mobile & computer home devices. As a loyal user of DuckDuckGo, my dedication to this browser naturally trickled down to my adult tech professional children, my grandchildren & many friends. That says a lot about your integrity & continued foresight in maintaining the upmost safe web browsing practices. Simply put, no one does it better. The best to all of you at DuckDuckGo going forward in, Sincerely, CSJ Old Review: I love you guys and have for as long as I can remember (13 years). I can’t get any photos to show up. I am still not seeing any photos just a question ? mark and after this update my entire screen was gigantic and I couldn’t see anything on my screen and even when you went to google everything was massive in size and I’ve had to reduce my phone settings and in app settings to a smaller size
Madly Safe Browser The Best. This thing worx amazingly I think, it does what it says it does, so far. I’ve been looking for a made browser like this for years. And finally now I have the perfect browser for the people that cause drama in my internet life. The features are self explanatory. Easy to follow and the prove is there 5 STAR BROWSER AAABrowser in my opinion. And my flat mate whom had a Brain Tumor she is able to use this with no problem. Just the same as myself using this trouble free Browser that curtainly does what it claims to do. Look no further if you want a browser that stops hackers in its tracks from following you and all the other things that this 10/10 browser does. Seriously I’m just a average people that has found this perfect browser & for me to call it perfect doesn’t come from me often. So it must be insanely mad in a good way. It’s main aim is to stop people or others from tacking what your surfing and bothering you. When u are internet surfing. Look no further it’s the best I mean it. Give it a go if u don’t agree or don’t like it you can always delete it. Im in Australia and it’s seriously a very good internet browser. If not the very best
Sell outs!. This search engine was a godsend when looking for alternative news sources that are more likely to offer truth than the MSM. But sadly, those days are gone. This news saddened me that DDG have now decided to block the independent media and favour the mainstream outlets! Shame on you! This is financial suicide for your business model! You are digging your own grave with this sudden jump onto the censorship bandwagon. Free speech and access to all information is the bedrock to any democracy and you have chosen to sell out to the big corporate monsters. After I have recommended your app and search engine to hundreds of people! Never again! Shame on you! I know at least 30 people who are deleting your app immediately. Me being one of them! Shame on you! Absolutely disgraceful.
Would switch, BUT!. I would 100% switch to this awesome browser. I love how it forgets everything unless you 'fireproof' a page instead of the other way around! However, the only thing keeping me from switching is Bookmark folders. You guys need to implement this, please! And also an easy way to transfer a favourites to bookmarks as holding down the bookmarks button adds a favourite, but to add a bookmark you have to go to the top-right menu, which feels a bit frustrating. Could I suggest adding 2 icons at the bottom of the Bookmarks pop-up (for easy reach): '🤍' for adding a Favourite and '📖' (or an actual bookmark or corner of a page symbol) for Bookmarks! Love the app! But will stay on Safari until I can add folders :)
So glad I found this!. I love absolutely everything about DuckDuckGo! I honestly find it much easier to navigate, use and customise than the more common search engines, like google. The biggest perk is obviously the peace of mind that comes knowing you’re not being tracked or getting heaps of ads. It’s a great app as well 👍🏼 Overall, I have nothing but awesome things to say about DuckDuckGo and I wish I’d found it sooner! Love it and I really hope it stays and becomes more known. 10/10 👌🏼
A1. Stay true we love you DD 👍👍 This is literally one of the best apps these pathetic iPhones are able to download, the one in a small minority of apps on this phone (if you can call it a phone🆘) that really doesn’t track what your doing hah imagine that something available on apple that isn’t thieving your data wow! just make sure Siri🤛 isn't in her primal default ON position in the app settings.
Fantastic. This app is absolutely awesome I can read anime or anything or go into anything I want now without me getting switched over to another site coz of ads.. it’s better than my safari website I use.. this app just stops and blocks all ads on websites I’ve used so far. I’m rating this a 5 star for sure.
Unplug from the matrix. Look you won’t know how much you love this app until you just go ahead and get it. Your eyes will be opened to how much other web browsers are exposing you to adds and tracking your online presence to modify your behaviour and away towards buying. Search engines shouldn’t come at the cost of having your behaviour tracked and modified by conglomerate companies. Just get the app and you’ll notice how much freer you feel in the end.
Privacy ~ at last!. Known about DDG for a while. So glad to have made the change. Privacy is more important than ever. The major vendors have simply let greed take over. And communities globally are fed up. Thank you. Played with Ecosia for a time - but maybe due to being Australia my searches never matched their tree count !! A little frustration I didn’t need. I’ll stay with DDG - thanks
Finally I have secure browsing! THE BEST!. I was so annoyed that when I searched for a product that I would be bombarded with adds ACROSS DIFFERENT PLATFORMS straight after. I had a vpn but it did not help.... I was also annoyed that when I tried to look at current affairs I was fed a skewed and biased result. I tried bing, it was ok but not a nice app to use. I heard about DuckDuckGo and because of the name never tried it. After trying to find news about a major election I finally had enough and tried DuckDuckGo. Well finally the adds have stopped! Finally I can see news stories showing all opinions so that I can make my own decision on which opinion is true. I have set DuckDuckGo as my default search engine everywhere and I like that I can even see when some trackers have been blocked and if a site is unsafe. So highly recommended I wish I had downloaded this long ago. Thank you to the developers this is the BEST app I have full stop. Everyone must use this for privacy and security.
Duck Duck Search Engine. I was looking for privacy while searching the Web installed different filters trying to stop being bombarded with adds and emails that didn’t work adds and emails continued, a friend told me she was using Duck Duck Go and was very impressed, I looked up Duck Duck Go and installed it since installed I have not been being tracked and had the annoying adds and emails. Thanks Duck Duck Go. I recommend anyone to install Duck Duck Go if you want privacy.
Great for 90 % of my browsing. Strips out many off the 3rd party advertisements and probably much of the unwanted sharing and monitoring of your activities with external entities of ill repute such as Facebook, especially when used in conjunction with No Script and Privacy Badger. The sophisticated organisations such as Google can still identify you even when you use Private Browsing on a new install of your browser or at a new location (yes, a trifle unsettling), presumably by the signal of operating system, processor type, IP addresses ranges etc.
Awesome, just a suggestion though. Has a cool dark theme. I like that we can browse privately on iOS. However it operates slower than Safari. I've already switched DuckDuckGo as my default search engine in Safari. Please fix the lag. I'll still give 5 stars for the concept, and wish you all the best in the future! Hopefully you surpass Yahoo, Microsoft, Facebook and Google, in terms of Market Share :D
Go for DuckDuckGo. Only been using this Browser App for a few days, after it being recommended by a friend. He was extolling its virtues of eliminating all the tracking that takes place behind the scenes with other Browsers. He demonstrated just how evasive the tracking involved is. After seeing its extent, couldn’t get to try DuckDuckGo quick enough. Now I am using it on my iPhone, iPad and main computer, setting it as the default Browser: So far I haven”t found any case where DuckDuckGo has decreased my Browser results in any way. I love its incinerator effect which gives a graphic illustration of your Browser’s trail being ‘burnt’ up. If you haven”t tried DuckDuckGo, I say go for it, without hesitation. FCB
Order never received. I made an expensive order back in Sept ‘21 and it’s now nearly Feb ‘22 and I still have not received my order. Numerous times I have contacted them and continuous excuses are given. They told me they will resend then when that wasn’t received I was told they sold out if the ones I wanted. Waiting waiting. No courtesy at all to contact me, I have to chase them.
Pleasant relief from ads. I’ve only been using DuckDuckGo for a short while but find that I am delighted to no longer being force fed advertising. The freedom of not being manipulated by algorithms or tracked by organisations such as Farscebook is also welcome, however as an additional bonus DuckDuckGo does not glitch the same way google does or drop out as often, I assume because there is no excessive advertising that is being downloaded together with the web-search. Because of the above mentioned, my whole family and a few of my friends have chosen to use DuckDuckGo as their primary search engine.
Practical and Private. I’ve started using this web browser, and I’ve found it very useful over the course of time. I believe it’s private as it says, and with the addition of clearing all history + the Face ID/Touch ID implements. I highly recommend this to anyone to would like a safe and secure browser for daily functions. I applaud the developers for creating a protected browser, which I will use for years to come. 10/10
Unable to report problems. Love it 100% Recently having an issue with trying to do a duck search on my Apple phone. It only happens in duckduckgo’s browser search in the app. My search resets and deletes anything i’ve typed and hides the keyboard before I can type. Resets so quickly I sometimes cannot type even 1 character. Hopefully there will be a fix coming soon. I’ve reinstalled the app and it still happens.
It is EXACTLY what it says!. With all the issues of having to watch who’s watching what you’re doing online. Having DuckDuckGo, as my Private Browser, I know they are taking care of what’s going on behind the screen. This is a HUGE weight off of my shoulders and to top it off, it’s free!! What more could you ask for !!!! Definitely a 5 Star Browser.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍🏼
Brilliant anonymity online. From one little black duck to duck duck go, thank you for your ongoing strive towards the protection of ones online journey while trying to get to the bottom of a personal electronic and digital nightmare. I'm grateful to be able to access genuine websites and the info contained within them with confidence that my personal private data along with my device info is secure while hidden from these life invading and befriending fraudsters that have deceived not only myself but who knows how many others for their own ill gotten gain without any consent from the genuine owner of the device, data, accounts, private property and home delivered mail. Absolutely Incredible. I’ve been looking for a decent web browser for a very long time, and I was delighted when I came across this app. This app is practically perfect. The security and blockers are amazing. There is one small problem that would make this app perfect—the search engine does not have a microphone so you can not speak what you want to search. I am very happy with this search engine and it is clearly worth five stars. They’ve got a cool set up with the duck that sort of acts like a host and it never saves history. If you’re looking for a good, safe and secure web browser, then Duck Duck Go is the one you’re looking for.
A pleasant surprise. I’ve known about DuckDuckGo for a long time, but never used it, and now it is the only engine I’ll use on my devices. Love how it blocks trackers, and alerts you to the websites that try to track you, even trusted sites that you would use daily- such as the school sites for my kids, they are riddled with trackers. I might get less emails from Nigerian royalty trying to give me millions of dollars haha. Give it a go.
Duckduckgo. Overall I am very pleased with Duckduckgo. It affords much more privacy, than the Google’s and Facebooks of this increasingly intrusive World we now inhabit. I like the fact that you can easily give Feedback whether it be positive or negative. I find when I use Duckduckgo that my iPhone is very rarely tracked. It’s a good feeling that you can scroll the Internet without the many many snoopers. If I use my friends phone(no Duckduckgo) The list of trackers following is mind boggling!! Thank you Duckduckgo Jacqueline
O.O Please Read Before Downloading. its good but when i tries to search up "Gacha Life" it came up with inappropriate videos wich are really REALLY NOT MENT FOR KIDS!!! Either add a "block creator" option or add a "Child Safe Mode" Anyway, Its a great app. anyways, the good thing is i can watch my videos knowing a duck 🦆 is helping me to stay safe on the web and no adds thats a bonus and you can even change the app icon colour!
Slowed down. Hi there!! I love what you are doing with this browser and what it offers. I would like to give some feedback. Of late, your browser has significantly slowed down in performance. I’ve noticed this specially in the past month. Which leads me to believe it might be software related. I am using an iPhone 12 Pro Max on the latest iOS. Thanks
Absolutely worth 5 stars BUT…. This is an excellent replacement browser with integrated search engine, giving some confidence that web browsing is more secure than other available options. Been using it since first available and I now live a life free of gooble ad tracking. It’s gratifying to see that blank google ad placeholder wherever I go on the web! There is one function I wish existed however: with the ability to leave numerous tabs open for future reference and consequently struggling to find that one tab I used without opening yet another for the same website, why can’t I search for the urls of open tabs??? Searching the current page for text is fine, but I need to check that website/tab I opened last week without typing a new search. Maybe this function exists but I can’t find any reference to it… anyway thanks for all your hard work duckies!
Logical choice. I’ve been using Ghostery for several years now after Dolphin packed in their support, but recently, Ghostery has been crashing and freezing, needling a reboot of my iPad. I had DuckDuckGo as my search engine, not realising there was a browser possibility as well, searching for a new browser brought me here. Very happy to have made the move, and the email protection is a bonus. With Surfshark VPN installed as well, I reckon my privacy is pretty well covered.
What a great search engine!. In the last couple of days, I have rediscovered DuckDuckGo. Before this week, I thought DuckDuckGo was a puny search engine compared to Google. That was two years ago. Now I know that DuckDuckGo offers more tailored search results, and blocks those nasty trackers which build up an online profile about you. This information can be sold to target you with advertising. DuckDuckGo is a smaller company than Google, but I believe it is far superior on ethical and practical grounds. So do yourself a favour and download DuckDuckGo today on your phone, or use the online browser.
Only one issue. This is a brilliant app that I use as my preferred browser. The only issue I have with it is that it takes about 4x longer to load anything compared to Safari and other browsers. Even just googling something without clicking any links takes about 10 seconds at least compared to 2-3 on Safari. Whilst this is only a small issue, it makes searching multiple things a lot more tedious and lengthy because the time really adds up quick
Greatly disappointed. I need a search engine that gives me non-biased results that's why I used ddg. It turned out not only was the search results inferior in diversity and quantity than GG search, many times, it was irrelevant to the search. Worse than that, it automatically defaults to localized results without consulting to the users. I spent an entire morning just to find out many others had the same problem asme and they could find no solution. Then why should I even use ddg then?
Love the Duck. I’ve been using Duck Duck Go from the day I discovered that my previous search engine had recorded every single search from day one That was a while ago and the Duck back then was a bit modest compared to what I was used to but the knowledge that these searches were completely private kept me here, and over the years I have seen DDG grow and improve
Well-designed browser, plus essential search engine. DuckDuckGo is of course essential if you care about your privacy on the internet - and hate tech monopolies or Big Data in general. The overall experience is not quite as good as Google, which isn’t surprising, but in spite of this the browser is thoughtfully designed and easy to use. Recommended.
Love Duck Duck. Outstanding. Private and confidential, gives feeling of safety as it’s how it should be. Doesn’t ‘remember’ past search options for suggestions but that’s the very thing it shouldn’t do. No tracking. Just technology doing what it should do: serving. It’s staying at the sweet spot of technology development that has now become nothing short of curiously sinister. Love Duck Duck Go.
DuckDuckGo web browser. My daughter suggested DuckDuckGo to me as I was fed up with Google knowing my browser history and the ads were ridiculously annoying . DuckDuckGo makes me feel safe & I don't feel spied upon . I love this browser because it's aim is to keep viruses ' hackers away Thankyou so much DuckDuckGo for taking away my anxiety and worry about being hacked again !
Review of appreciation. I have now used ddg for a while and want to make it my go to search engine but it is very difficult to change google in these apple telephones I like ddg because they have up to the minute news as top stories instead of two or more day old news from google I am so pleased to have found ddg it is great thank you Kind regards from Victoria Australia
No font size options. I always have to default back to using Safari as iPhone web browser (where I have DDG set as search engine). This specific DDG app is sending me back to reuse Safari (per above) solely because unlike Safari, DDG doesn’t enable individual users the option (top left side of address / search bar) to individually increase / decrease font size. Great app yet for this reason alone, I must now leave this App - for Safari yet again as homestay - simply because Safari empower me with basic choice ....to be able to alter see & critically read, font of each page visiting. If you rectify via inclusion, then ‘...I’ll be back...’
Email distribution. Thanks for the quick reply. 🙂 I am a bit worried about the possibility of problems with this and that I will be prevented from receiving emails or they could be delayed. I haven’t finished reading all the information. Could I cancel any time? Another query - can we transfer more than one email address?
Great Browser. It is a very neat almost ad free experience however if I had one issue then it would be the inability to jump back a number of pages. I think both Safari and Chrome will allow you, if you hold the back arrow down, a pop up of the many previous pages and allow you to select where to go to. This browser has you tapping the back arrow and at times it gets stuck. If this option could be implemented then it be a great addition.
Must have sold out recently. Not so long ago I used this browser to get real information, uncensored by the main stream. Recently I’ve found this has changed. My example recently was Samsung TV Plus. I work for a telco selling streaming products and have never heard of this service. Recently I purchased a Samsung projector that had Samsung plus built in which is free. Foxtel charges $50 minimum a month for their basic package. I searched Samsung TV plus vs Foxtel on google and got nothing. Then I searched the same thing on Duck Duck Go and got the same results. Not the service it used to be. Also look up Samsung TV plus
We Always Need True and Honest Reporting. In these unprecedented times, where so much of the truth is banned or claimed to be False on other search engines, we have put all our faith in Duck Duck Go to continue giving us factual and true reporting. We rely on the integrity of Duck Duck Go to enable us to read and find the Truth. The world needs this more than ever in these current circumstances where we are facing criminal acts against humanity. We thank you.
Love this latest version. 👏🏻. Love this latest version of DukDukGo!! The opening of many Tabs being an absolute great feature and staying committed to their Private Browsing experience is always a Plus!! Highly recommendable to anyone that is looking for a very good Browser App with Private Browsing. Thank you DukDukGo developers!! 👏🏻👍
Best replacement for google. Had been looking for something that’s an alternative for google The very fact that google didn’t provided it’s app policies on updated iOS App Store went to show how shifty it is as a company which prompted me to delete its services and look for an alternative and it was a bit of a work but found an absolute gem of a search engine and browser
Great concept, bit slow and clumsy to use on iPhone. Love love love the concept of privacy and blocking trackers from search results. For some who feels squeamish about being tracked and as targeted on their every search, this is a great browser. I use the app though, and notice loading website's takes about 3-4 times the time as normal searches and browsing on safari does :(. Also, the refresh button is not a standalone visible button, but requires pressing the "..." Function to select refresh from a dropdown menu. The changing and upgrading of this would be awesome! Also not sure how DDG will survive the competitive ad market due to ad targeting only being for the current search while other search engines are doing more comprehensive tracking and gathering, but I hope they can! :)
This is the best search engine ever, period.. This is the best search engine ever, period. Things that google blocks can be viewed with this browser and search engine. I will never use google ever again. Everyone needs to change and come to the world of freedom to view what ever you want. They don’t block conservative views that’s for sure but they are fair they also don’t block liberal views.
Stop nagging me!!!. This would be quite a useful app (at least ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️) except for the constant nagging it does about "adding Duck Duck Go to Safari". If, like me you already use DDG as your preferred search engine from Safari you still get the same nagging even though you have made the requested setting for safari. Really annoying chaps! DDG needs a way to recognise that you have made the setting change or else users will try something else! As a way of punishment I am going to delete the app. Please fix this! Peter 20 May 2017: Despite my rather negative review the developer contacted me in a positive way; this is an indication of a person/organisation that cares about its product. In reply, I will reinstall the DuckDuckGo app and give it another try.
No turning back. I have been using ddg for over 10yrs now across all my device's. When I started using there was no app, it was just a browser based search engine like early days of the internet before google when your options were Lycos, Yahoo, AltaVista, WebCrawler… to name a few. I do occasionally dabble with the new players that appear on the market but somewhere they always fall short and I always end up coming back. Keep up the good work.
Just wanted to download something for when Google stops working in Australia. I just downloaded this because Google has grown so big that it’s threatening my countries government. I don’t even care about the new media laws. I just don’t think a company should grow so powerful that it bullies entire nations. I’ll always back the little guy and shun the bullies. Threats like this from monopolists are not okay.
Recent issues. Usually a great app but after recent updates the keyboard has been playing up when starting a new search. Quickly closes when beginning typing. Does this 3 or so times before stabilising. Would also be great to have the full stop key moved from next to the space bar as I constantly hit it instead of space. Just a suggestion. Fabulous otherwise thanksssss
Hackers Revenge. I have been hacked so badly that most people/phone companies/utility companies/friends/family all just say to me “it’s just a glitch” “ that just happens sometimes” I had some friends say when we caught up “as long as you don’t talk about the hacking” well it’s still not over but it’s getting there bit by bit . I just want to say that DuckDuckGo is the safest I’ve ever felt on the internet , thankyou duck duck .
Way better than Google. I had no idea DuckDuckGo also had a phone app, but I’m so glad I found it. It lets you know what’s going on, you have a lot more control over stuff, but if you have no skills, it pretty much just starts protecting you right off the bat anyway. And let’s you know what’s happening. It has a VPN, blocks trackers and things just like it says it does. Easy to navigate of course, and to top it all off... this is pretty irreverent but the artwork is hilarious, there’s a button for clearing your tabs out, and when you push it, all these flames fly across the screen. I’m a sucker for art and heart, so good on them for including some cool personal touches for us to laugh at.

Best. I trust this browser / app completely. Works well every time. I like knowing my browsing cannot be tracked.
Horrible during emergencies/urgent. That absolute worst part about using this app is if you’re in any kind of situation you need to look up information for an emergency, medical or whatever reason that brings urgency to acquiring the information, the app can delay the ability to do so. Please make it so pages don’t refresh the moment you touch the address bar. We don’t need sites refreshing when trying to clear the bar to type in something else. This might seem minor but those 3-4 seconds a site refreshes can absolutely matter in moments of crisis. This has pushed me back to Chrome. It might seem like a ‘minor inconvenience’ but the inconvenience can impact things more than people admit.
what happened,. to “open in new tab”? to setting to open links in new tab? latest update on 12.4.9
BEEN SOLD TO GOOGLE… NOT PRIVATE. This browser has been hacked by the virus that is the elites.
Allows Microsoft to track some of your data now. Title says it all, immediately switching to Brave now
Too much censorship. Too much censorship with DuckDuckGo. They do not encourage free speech.
Why am I just finding you now. I use Duck Duck Go as my default browser search engine, and find it always surprises me how good it actually is, but I didn’t know about the mobile browser until recently. I’m loving it. I grew so tired of every app having google tracker from my previous searches despite using incognito mode. I’m done with being forced to see advertisements that infringe on my privacy. Share the word, DDG is the way.
why no translate button for foreign sites?. weird there is no way to easily translate entire pages
Google owned garbage!!!. Research this a little more people.
Every Update Makes It Worse. I loved this browser for a long time but it’s just gotten worse and worse with age. Most recently with the last update I’ve completely lost the ability to open anything in a new tab. Finally gave up and deleted it, time to find a good browser again.
Virus. Just stick to your normal browser. I’ve gotten viruses from this and now my phone slow asf
Ability to download PDFs. Only complaint is there doesn’t seem to be a way to download a file or PDF to phone like any other browser.
Freedom. As the giant tech companies that control everything you read, are quite disgustingly bias, and are trying to destroy free speech, it is refreshing to see companies like this preserve your freedom, not control you. Bravo!
Primarily for US users. I set the preference for Canada, I include Canada as a search term but I still get the .com version of major sites rather than .ca. Of course minor sites will be more often American than Canadian as well so in many circumstances the whole effort is a waste of time.
Uses Microsoft trackers?. “DuckDuckGo browser uses Microsoft trackers due to search agreement” - May 24, 2022. This is not the privacy focus DuckDuckGo markets itself as having. Bye bye.
DUCK DUCK GO. Best search engine out there only one I use ;)
Wonderful browser.. Feel a lot safer online.
This one’s a winner!. Get this one. It’s the best.
Censorship. Used to be good, now Duckduck Go caters to propaganda and allows the government dictate the censorship of the truth. Shameful. Deleted.
Not as good as you think. I follow privacy closely, and you’re just the easiest best option to the even worse platforms. But you don’t fool me…you don’t care about my privacy.
Pro Censorship. Switched to Brave.
Keeps resetting settings. I moved away from google search because I didn’t want to feel I was being manipulated, but now I am getting the same feeling when using DuckDuckGo. I keep having to go into the settings on a weekly or biweekly basis to turn off privacy suggestions and prompts to use DuckDuckGo in my browser, etc because the app turns back on the settings that I have specifically turned off (many many times now). What is the point of turning off features and saving the changes only to have them reset to ON when the company feels like it? Shady practices are happening too often now, this will push me away as a user.
Would like Reader View. While it’s nice that a lot of ads and banners are blocked, sometimes a website’s layout is annoying and a Reader View facility would be helpful for those sites. PS - my Sign In with Apple works again.
OGG support. Needs embedded .ogg support!
Great privacy. Really enjoy using this private browser .. really don’t like the fact of the Canadian government being to censor everything we now read on the net ..
Not the best search engine. If you want a truly safe search engine. Switch to Brave. Unfortunately, DuckDuckGo is not as safe as they claim it is and recently they have started censoring certain information that we can see.
Really love this browser. I have been using this for a few years and I really love how this gives you peace of mind knowing the protection it gives . Thank you
Big brother is watching. Worse browser you can download. Duck duck go once promoted itself as a safe place to surf the web without censorship by giving you full freedom and responsibility. Now it censors everything, watches you. You are now they’re 5 year old child Don’t use Duck Duck Go
Garbage CEO. This browser was supposed to be private and unbiased in searches. Ranking search results according to what someone or some organization think what is ok and what isn’t seems like an oxymoron decision for this browser. Becoming a propaganda tool.
Not private. They are selling your info to Microsoft
Fabulous. I’ve been using DuckDuckGo for a month. I’m fussy about privacy & it’s FAB. Even with Apple’s g8 iOS system security DDgo offers me much needed peace of mind b/c I fundamentally believe if U want to use my personal data then pay me. It’s well designed, has a clean, easy to use/intuitive layout and keeps you safe from the dangers of having “the world at ur fingertips” via the Internet. Highly recommended. Can’t say enough positives.
Duck Duck Go. Fabulous search engine. Been using it just like the others and have no complaints whatsoever.
Excellent But.... Why is there such a long delay between the time you click on the app to launch it until you can actually begin typing in a search term? It wasn’t always like this. Seems to be getting more and more bloated with every update.
Google sucks. Was a very good search engine till google got their grimy corporate hands on it, now its only a matter of time till this too is censored by the abhorrent tax avoiding company known as google
Love DDG. I love their apps and the company, and it would be five stars, but DDG hammers my battery, regularly taking up 50% over the course of a day or two. And I don’t even spend much time on my phone. That power drain is while my phone is idle. I’ll be switching to a new browser till that gets fixed.
More contact. Seems in the last few days the availability to contact on 5G networks has been more simpler or simplified. I mean to connect to it as much effort having to be put in and seeing some results although still subtle they’re definitely in the area I was looking for, but couldn’t find.
Love it. I literally love DDG so much i’ve used it for years
Censoring and biased information. No longer private or unbiased results.. I’ve noticed a decline in the quality of search engine results lately. Previously, I could easily find helpful, data-driven information on topics like “What are the laws for X?” or “What happened at X event?” But now, instead of straightforward information, I’m mostly seeing fear-mongering articles, sensationalized, and biased content. Why can’t I read everything and make a decision on my own? It’s disappointing to see this trend, and it feels like this search engine is starting to resemble all the others. It used to be a reliable source, but now it’s losing what made it great. DELETING.
How the internet should be.. This search enjoin is awesome, it shows you ALL the options when you put in a search, not just the ones the far LEFT want you to see. Keep up the good work and thanks for letting US decide what we want to read.
Ad blocker missing. Also latest updates Nov 2020 broke “open in new tab” and “open new tab in background” - please fix asap, even in older versions it was temperamental and wouldn’t always give the new tab options, but now it’s completely gone ☹️
Mediocre browser. When deleting sites from the bookmarks bar, are sites automatically removed from favorites? 🤯 What fool came up with this?
Browser freezes after recent update. Pages become unresponsive out of the blue on both iPhone and iPad Pro. iOS 14. Please look into this.
Bought by google. This app has Ben bought by google do not use it it is not secure and is no longer safe as of dec 15 2020
Very straight forward. I really like how the explanation of the app is very straight forward and how they made it so secure and friendly. Thank you so much for the privacy
Simply the best. The best browser for your privacy and security!
Search window is too small on my IPhone. The window and typed text is too small on my iPhone and I can’t seem to change it. Will probably be back with Safari going forward.
Fake. How come it has more better reviews than google it’s kinda trash also tracks ur location and what ya doing just warning young users out there
I’d get it. Never get caught being on pornhub, I love it. Good app
I was wrong, its just not a solid and secure browser!!. This app made me solve world piece. I became a fortune 500 ceo within minutes of sharing my life with DuckDuckGo 🤩🤩🤩 I realized all we need is this brilliant app from and AMAZING profitable team of skilled engineers and trusted. professionals a $2300 phone would be worth it just for the brilliance of Apple ™ engineering 😍 They know me so well, its like this iPhone 12 Pro app was built just to make me feel happy and wealthy!! I love spending money and sharing my wealth of knowledge and day-to-day activities on my iPhone!!
Searches are visible in Safari. Notice when I come to do a search in safari , it deployed the search history of DuckDuckGo !! So Apple knows what you looked for and keeps the history of it !
Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!
Fixed all my issues.. Alright so I’ve used the app for awhile now after the last update and haven’t had any problems with it. Everything is smooth and I haven’t had any bugs. I love the app I think it is amazing the way it is I feel like my browsing is quick and secure. Now, I support the app fully and would honestly like this to be the only browser that I use. I use it a lot but there’s still one thing I’d like to see if you guys can do if/when you’re ready. I’d like to be able to download things and use DuckDuckGo with other apps instead of having to “open in safari”. I know people would like the page they were on to open right up in safari but I don’t wanna have to leave your app at all I like it a lot more than safari and would love to replace it entirely with DuckDuckGo. 👍🏻
Yell its name from the rooftops!. Everyone should feel obligated to tell their family, friends, and workers about this defense of your person. Literally for all of your devices that you browse the web with. We’re all getting robbed blind by tech and we don’t even know it, meanwhile we’re being sold out insecurities like a drug. Watch the most recent John Oliver or see if you can watch a snippet just look up “John Oliver data brokers” and you’ll see just how much. I’ve known about traditional software and hardware but my current career hasn’t been in tech for 5-6 years and I know ad tech has gone nuclear in the most radioactive of ways and our senile politicians are too busy robbing us via billionaire favored legislation, I digress. Anyways. Download this app and tell everyone. lol
Awesome engine. This is the only browser I use 99.5% of the time. I don’t get 15 pop-ups every time I go to read the news, and I don’t have 10-15 trackers open in the background slowing me to a halt. I also use the duck email address if I’m signing anything that I know is just going to sell my information to whoever, and my email, which I have had since around 1995+/-, doesn’t get 70+ spam emails to it, which is so very nice. I have yet to find any issues with the free version, so much so that I’m going to sign up for the pay version, which is inexpensive I think, and see what else the Duck team has come up with, that will make my life even more stress free. Try Duckduckgo and find out how the internet used to be, before the big corporations figured out that they wanted all of your information without having to get your permission.
Censorship. I have been extremely happy with DDG, but now I just found out that they have started down ranking sites solely because they deem them “misinformation”. I am perfectly capable of reading an article and deciding for myself if they are lying to me not, and I do not my browser to do that for me. Just show me the results that most closely match the words in my search and keep your opinion on if something is misinformation or not out of the equation. They were also accused of discriminatory hiring practices, but from what I can see they never responded to say if that was misinformation or not. So, you guys want to decide what is or isn’t “misinformation” on the internet, but then someone accuses you of discrimination and you won’t even respond? Why didn’t you come out and say the accusation was misinformation? Makes me think it could be true if you aren’t denying it happened. I’m going to try Brave Privacy Browser, I haven’t heard anything bad about them yet. How many users will you need to lose before you stop censoring information?
The New Best Browser. Hot diggity! This is something very special from the whiz kids at DuckDuckGo. Many interested in basic privacy have used their search engine for years, watched it grow and become a worthy rival in completeness to anything offered by the evil “don’t be evil” corporations. But after a long hiatus in which it was not very usable, DuckDuckGo have created a wonderful new browser for web privacy. The GUI is adorable, one of the most concise, clear, and complete I’ve ever seen. The ease and transparency of the interface is bested only by the apparent competence of its blocking practices. And yet, unlike some tracking blockers, I find it renders pages quite well and without odd gaps. With a single tap on a site rating icon, DuckDuckGo tells you at a glance what is wrong with the site. Go to FB, Google, or Twitter when you boot this up to see exactly what evil they are up to. It can’t be made clearer, both by the D rating, or these simple explanations what evil these sites are up to. If you’ve ever gone grumbly while wading through a site’s meally mouthed, weasly fine print on their user agreement or privacy page, you can’t but gasp with gratitude to see how DuckDuckGo cuts through the red tape and bull pucky to give you the real scoop. DuckDuckGo May very well be a gate crasher with this one. Not all of us have been gleefully sold on the surveillance economy and the brave new world of fawning subservience to Big Data. DuckDuckGo is proving it can be done right. Good going, ducks! Keep it up, please!
Great! Much better than Safari. Got very frustrated with Safari. Web pages would constantly refresh. When trying to read an article, it would load partially, then I’d wait, and wait. The Read More button would respond only after multiple clicks. Hit back button, refresh and wait some more. As battery drains. None of this with Duck-Duck-Go. Performance is soooo much better! Not to mention the privacy. So easy to clear data. Website privacy ratings are clearly displayed. Multiple tabs organized a little different, but good. Lots of settings I hasn’t fully explored. My only quibble so far is that I’d like to be able to organize favorites into folders. And I wish I could make this my default browser. But I think that’s an iOS version issue. Very happy so far!
Duck 5/5. In Depth iOS 26 Review from Browser Fanatic: Duck gets the max score, the inbuilt duck ai anonymizes a quick included 4o mini response to every search if you want. As well, there’s a whole chat history and multiple models to select for just a general ai chatroom. It can be cleared, doesn’t require login, and I love how the devs are “with the times” by allowing users to opt-in to ai features. The fire button at the bottom is an instant clear of the entirety of the browser, cool animations are customizable. The cookie and tracker blocking is in-depth but allows less control than uBlock filters. Duck shows the cookies blocked, and the ones allowed with a user friendly interface. I love Duck. It’s my go-to always. JS works fine and has safety mitigations. iOS Webkit Fanboy Reviews: —iOS allows absolute power users to “sandbox” which applications are allowed to talk to one another, or the filesystem. It’s very unique. I recommend the following as daily drivers, none need browser sync. I included allowance of cell/wifi: Duck - This Review - Data+WiFi Edge - Hold microsoft’s trophy child hostage, has uBlock lite customizable filters - Data Only Google - Better than chrome, has most grounded general questions, has reverse image. All links are made supported ad sponsors, cookies run rampant, app overrides dns with DoH so only method of limitation is VPN like 1.1.1.1 App, only safari does this as Google does - WiFi Only Firefox - Daily driver for minimalistic session that includes Google or School account logins - WiFi Only Safari / Other browsers can be tried, albeit I don’t use them. Opera was buggy in the past, and isn’t optimized for iOS last I checked, stopped using it after doing more research on them, as well as broken download file extensions.
Rapidly declining—takes over phone. I used to love this browser, but it’s been in rapid decline since they implemented AI—which no one wants. It always opens two windows at once, search results have declined, it sometimes opens in different languages, and it is painfully slow to open—i.e., it’s become completely useless. People have been complaining, yet they’ve made it clear they have no intention of fixing any of this. Uninstalling from my phone and computer. RIP DuckDuckGo. Update: thought I’d try again, and it’s somehow gotten worse. Uninstalled again and the browser keeps coming up anyway for some reason. It is impossible to get rid of, and I can’t search for what I want because some links won’t open with it. Why is it still on my phone as my default browser when I removed it as the default AND uninstalled it?! FIX THIS! This browser is useless and I want it gone! It’s been impossible to fully remove from both my phone and laptop!
Identity theft and fraud. There should be a way to talk to someone in person over the phone regarding serious issues regarding identity theft and fraud. This may not be the appropriate space to air my concerns with my identity being stolen and used by my ex husband however, my almost 2 year struggle trying to get someone to do something regarding the theft of ALL of my information and the restrictions that he placed on me on my own accounts and devices has to do with restrictions regarding children because he took ownership of my accounts and emails and listed me as a child to restrict my ability to us my accounts freely. He also created fake business accounts using my identity and placed MDM apps to restrict me further! This “review” in one of MANY ways I’ve tried to have some movement on the security powers that be to investigate this crime and stop this from happening.
Game Changer in this AI World. I’m huge anti AI. So when everything started to switch to AI I was at wits end. I cannot stand the fact that I cannot turn off AI overview on Google, and I tried a few other browsers and was annoyed to find I couldn’t do it on those too. At my wits end I looked up browsers without AI and I saw a reddit post from a year ago saying that this browser didn’t have it. When I went on it initially and saw that AI was integrated I was briefly devastated- until I saw how easy it was to turn off, and how easy it was to turn on a filter from AI images. I could not be happier. An easy browser to use, made the switch super quickly, and I am not missing any google features at all. It’s a relief not to have an AI overview constantly looming over me.
Exactly What I’ve been Searching For!. A friend in IT told me about this Search Engine because I’ve been trying to find a secure method of research without being tracked and hacked. Well this is it. If you’re tired of being steered in all the directions other then where you want to go - switch to DuckDuckGo. If you’re tired of being fed bad information or skewed bits of information to feed you a hidden agenda, switch to DuckDuckGo. If you’re tired of going all the way to page 10 on Google just to hopefully find objective answers, switch to DuckDuckGo. We are on the information highway when we’re here. We have the right to see what we’re actually looking for - not just what the controllers want us to see. Lastly, from what I understand, it’s an American based company. I prefer that. Happy researching!
Only 1 Complaint From Me.. Now I have only been use ing this web browser for a week now. But like I said above, “no complaints from me”. Before I add any kind of app to my cell phone, I always always always do a little digging first. I’ll read the reviews in the evening, and before you know it it could be hrs gone by. My point is, in reading these reviews, there are a lot of high and low reviews. Some that are even confused. But I didn’t see is responses or whomever is responsible for this app’s reviews, responding to anyone. Not one single complaint, compliment, ask for assistance, .. Nothing. I mean there are a lot of apps that also do not respond to people. Sometimes it is just too much I’d assume. I do not know your reasoning. But it would be nice to see ya know what I mean. 👍🏼
Never knew how bad other search engines were.. It has been a much more seem less experience using Duck Duck Go since I began about a week ago. The difference has been tremendous, and I have learned plenty about my,”fingerprint,” that gets tracked by adds literally at every click. It’s a good feeling of satisfaction watching adds/cookies getting blocked. Then seeing which adds have me targeted. I wanted to get off any browser that was going to censor the media, and Google, Facebook, and Twitter had to go immediately. Especially after their last scandals with their algorithms being epoch to a country that excepts communist ran media. I am proud to be able to write and speak freely on any topic no matter how disagreeable that may be (lol.) Thank you Duck Duck go for leading the way for other browsers.
Wonderful. Yes, I like the privacy aspects of Duck Duck Go - it’s the main reason why I use the app (and have it as my primary search function on all my other devices/Internet). What I want to talk about is the app/widget on iOS devices. The app is wonderful. I like that I can reorder tabs (after seeing them as little cards vs. teeny tiny status bars. I like that with one touch of one button, everything is gone, the browser is clear. So satisfying, watching that “flame” rise to the top. Overall, using the app is a wonderful experience. But my absolute favorite thing/response is when I tap on the widget I’ve put on the Home Screen of my iPhone. You see, usually, 99.9% of the time, I open an internet browser app to conduct a search. This widget opens the app with the cursor already in the search bar and the keyboard all ready to go! No having to tap anywhere to get the keyboard. Oh, and it’s already opened to a new tab, I’m not overwriting a tab I’ve already used. For me, this time saving convenience is like frosting on the cake. So thanks for this app & widget, Duck Duck Go developers. I really appreciate the whole thing - privacy to convenience. Overall, the privacy aspect is awesome and really, that’s the bottom line. It’s that good. I recommend this to anyone who will listen.
Tab Options. This is a great browser. Two things about tabs I’ve noticed that I hope are changed: when you open new tabs, sometimes they aren’t truly new tabs because they overtake another tab you already had opened. This is incredibly annoying to always have to check if I’m closing a freshly opened tab or a tab that opened over another one I had. I don’t understand this or the conditions it uses to determine a fresh tab or to overtake another tab. Also it would be really nice if we had the option, when opening links in a new tab, to switch to the new tab or stay on the current page. The current setup always takes you to the new tab, which is unproductive in many scenarios. Having a small pop up that offers the ability to switch to the new tab when opening a link is the best of both worlds, or have a setting that can be changed please.
Duck Internet Invasion 4ever. I tried DuckDuckGo several years ago on an older device, but when I replaced and upgraded, it was easy enough just to slide back into using the browser already installed on the new devices, Google or Safari. Never again! Want control of your life? Then set up DuckDuckGo as your default and only browser. I don’t want the stealth harvesting of my data and behavior. I now receive email, phone and mail solicitations on funeral homes, burial, cremation and embalming science because 5 years ago I had to help a friend do research and make decisions when one of her parents died suddenly. What other information do browsers extract from your searches? My security sweeps are now clean and DDG alerts me to the invasive attempts when I search for information. This is a wonderful browser!
Whats up with the search bar. My most recent update of this app has been annoying. I don’t usually close any old windows til maybe the end of the day so i’d just reuse the old window and type in the search bar over the old web address which I’m pretty sure most people do. Typically upon clicking the search bar, it will automatically highlight the current and then It will delete the old address once i start typing. Now since my recent update, when I go to do that, something happens where what I’m typing suddenly ends up at the end of the old web address instead of removing it first but the thing is I haven’t exactly caught when it happens because I have to look at the keyboard while typing and only notice once i press enter and it just ends up in the same page. And I would do it twice in a row before it starts to function normally again ?!
Bookmarks disappear & space allocated for bookmark description changed for the worse. There is a problem with bookmarks disappearing temporarily when moving a bookmark. Also, this problems still exists: Why did Duckduckgo designers change the space for the description of each bookmark to make it more narrow? This was the browser's one feature on my iPad that made it so useful that I would use the browser every day, all day. I have thousands of bookmarks organized in folders, and I would write my own description of the item, hiking trail, open hours and days, or travel destination, etc. in each bookmark. And before the awful update today, there was always enough space for me to write enough information for each bookmark that using the browser was very useful. Now, with the more narrow space for each bookmark, the words I wrote for the various bookmarks have been chopped off by about one third. What could possibly be the advantage of making the bookmark description space more narrow? The update ruined the functionality of the browser. Please put the space for describing each bookmark back the way it was before today's update, which would be wider than it is now. If I can find another browser that is the way Duckduckgo was before today's update, I will switch browsers and never look back.
🙌🏼 DuckDuckGo IS THE BEST!!. I love having DuckDuckGo! It keeps trackers and spam from stalking you on the internet. I really, enjoy the extra feature of being able to create a duck address, or choose a random one to filter out the trackers before, mail gets to your already existing email addresses. All you have to do is link your duck… to your yahoo or gmail, etc. and use your duck address as your go to address, to use for everything, and you’ll get all of your emails in one place, safely without, harassing spammers following them to your inbox. I only, wish I’d found out sooner! Google and Gmail refuse to do that, and invite them in while, making money selling your data and information. I recommend DuckDuckGo for everyone!!
They have sold out and are no different than. Google, Bing and any other main search engine when it comes to only showing you approved search results. They are participating in the mainstream control of what people are shown when searching information. 2 examples: 1. Looking up almost anything on healthcare that isn’t considered mainstream (e.g. quercetin, or vitamin D. for its effectiveness against infections only shows you the acceptable information that mainstream healthcare and pharma wants you to know and read) 2. I recently watched an interview where they interviewed A. Jones and I wanted to actually form an opinion from me doing research rather than what we are told. Well I found his website and DuckDuckGo will NOT allow you to visit his website. It says there is no connection or server issue, but when I went to Safari to look it up and access it, no problem. Tried it again on DuckDuckGo and once again would not allow me. These are two examples of what I’ve come across myself. Regarding healthcare, I am a physician and know the research and wanted to see what DuckDuckGo would show and they do NOT show you data from both sides in their search engine. I’m sad that they sold out and are no better than others and in some ways worse because they preach being nothing like Google, but they seem to be, with the exception that they possibly don’t sell your information? How do we even know if that is accurate if they are filtering what people can have access to? I hope to hear back from them and see that they will choose to respect peoples right to information and to choose for themselves what they believe to be true or not.
Lovely app to prevent censorship of sites. Thank you DuckDuckGo for remaining politically neutral, and neutral pertaining to people who desire to look into natural health remedies. I’ve noticed that for the last few months... Google has changed. Their search results don’t pull up things immediately, or at all... that don’t fit a particular narrative. I was naive and believed that I would never see censorship of the internet in my lifetime. But censoring results, and only showing things that promote one particular party or Big Pharma really makes the searches less colorful. ONE search through DuckDuckGo and all the normal results were immediately restored. A colorful world is so much better than a bland, boring one, where everyone is fed the same chicken meat. Let us pick out our own chicken bones; we won’t choke, we’re adults... thus, we now use DuckDuckGo.
Best browser Ive ever used. I have used a lot of browsers over the years - Chrome, Safari, IE, Mozilla, Firefox and more. Hands down, DuckDuckGo is the best browser Ive ever used in terms of privacy, security, ease of use and literally the most adorable mascot for any internet product ever. The recent ruling in favor of Google and Apples continued monopolistic practices is a shame. They spy on browser users and sell their data yet they unfairly block any and all competition. Those are disgusting business practices. I am happy to say I have downloaded DuckDuckGo on my Macbook and iPhone and no longer user use Safari or Chrome. Haven’t looked back once! Apple and Google know DuckDuckGo is an infinitely superior product. They can only suppress usage by continuing their deceptive and illegal tactics. To reference a favorite 90s movie, this is quite a Mighty Duck!
First Review I’ve Ever Left. Understanding what is being done with our data by the big tech companies every day is Orwellian to say the least. I’ve used Duck Duck Go’s search engine for a while and was ecstatic to stumble upon their mobile browser. Yet, I kept my hopes low because too often I’ve been disappointed when it comes to mobile applications. Not this time. All I can say is: WOW. Smooth, easy, *gorgeous* browsing experience. Everything is on point. Thank you so much for valuing my privacy and making it a focal point while crafting this masterpiece of a mobile internet browsing experience. Feel like it sounds like I’m shilling but I assure you I’m so unlikely to write another review until the day I die. Just please value your data and privacy, do yourself a favor and download this app right now. I’m just beyond blown away.
No longer the “free speech” search engine. I’ve been using and recommending DuckDuckGo for years now and was glad to start seeing more ads from them on TV. However, tonight I learned that they have decided to censor whatever they say is “disinformation”, which by the way is not identifiable without using biases. DuckDuckGo is now no better than Google. As a matter of fact, google is a much superior engine, due to all that it offers. Those of us looking for a substitute that offers what DuckDuckGo has always offered are quickly running out of alternatives. I’m going to try the Brave Browser. DuckDuckGo, if you ever decide to offer the browser that you did, please advertise it so that I can maybe come back. It’s been nice but see ya.
It’s easy to use and fun!. It’s as easy as other search engines, as long as you familiarize yourself a bit with the interface and it feels a lot safer. I compared searches between this one and the top search engines and I received the same results which is awesome. So far I really like it and it’s nice to not have companies watching my every move to just show me add’s, there is enough of that happening on social media Apps, I don’t need it when I am trying to look up something. I also really like that it doesn’t open up a bunch of tabs. Sometimes in other search engines I will have like 20 tabs open and I really had no clue, I would think I was still within the first tab I was using. This slows my phone down without me even being aware and I have to close each one manually. This app seems to just search through a tab for the most part and even if other tabs open up, when you press the burn icon it deletes all tabs that are open! The kid in me really loves this feature since Its pretty satisfying and fun to see the flames that pop up as it burns up your past searches 😂. So so far so good! I even use it as my default search engine now.
The BEST Browser I’ve Used. Since I’ve downloaded the app, I’ve been using it as my main browser. The ease of use and the customization is appealing to me. I love that I can put a lock on my browser if I’ve been looking things up and forget to close them. The burn button is also extremely handy if I’ve finished what I’m doing so I can keep an organized browser bar. The best part in my opinion is it’s ability to block trackers from companies like Google and Facebook, so they can’t collect or sell your browsing data. This has actually helped me lower the amount of ads! The app is also able to hide what you search, look up, or watch on your history, so nothing is stored. I overall love the app and can’t wait to see how future updates improve upon this SOLID foundation.
This is it My Peeps. Oh boy, I have downloaded and deleted Google so many times, I keep trying to give it the benefit of the doubt but they keep failing. I don’t allow any app to have access to my phones microphone except Siri but the other night I asked my husband if we could go look at the new 2023 GMC Trucks on our dealership lot, later that evening I had an onslaught of Ads for 2023 trucks!!! Goodbye Google and HELLO DuckDuckGo. I absolutely love this search engine for my iPhone 11. Simple and the ability to delete everything when finished using is the best thing ever. There are some websites where they block a few things but you can press the allow tab (for example-QVC or HSN) and any pop ups will be disabled. Try it and see for yourself.
Reliable,Privacy Focused, and continues to add Great Features. I love the private search of DuckDuckGo overall and think they are always improving and listening to the feedback provided in the app and on the website. I have used it as my daily driver for 9 years now. Over the years, they have added more services like AI chat, duck addresses, VPN, personal info removal , and more. I use all of them and have enjoyed how much they have grown. Privacy should not be optional; it should be the default, and the transparency DuckDuckGo provides adds to the confidence I have in them. If there’s something that you don’t get out of this app, please add it to the feedback option in the app because they have listened to the community and have added all the features that I have enjoyed and continue adding more.
Why this is the best search engine ..a tribute to freedom.. Our forefathers certainly had high hopes and aspirations in crafting our constitution and bill of rights etcetera. Once upon a time a guy I know (ahem) opened his computer to find that these two search engines changed all the filters...permanently. Welcome to the machine as the iconic band Pink Floyd put it. The accounts had always been forever mined for information so they could “bring relevant opportunities to me ...their beloved citizen”. My junk mail box swelled over the years while my inbox dwarfed in comparison. Turns out their oversight of my accounts led to all sorts of turmoil in my life..and it was all my fault? I had all the two factor identification everything and more. Their account agreement where they state it’s okay to share our information with their partners. Well the one of the partners was very careless.
Friendly, warm, real…. I like the alerts/warnings when I go to certain sites. They’ve helped me to realize and understand more about how the internet and the companies of the internet work. I like the friendly and personal language used, rather than alarmist/danger construction-site style warnings. In this way duckduckgo is also set apart from these other companies. I knew it was ddg for sure and not an imposter trying to trick me to their ad page. Just watch, ddg’s friendly and gentle, personal navigational style will start to be adopted by all the other companies when they see its better. But to me it seems ddg implemented it because it matched their business model which genuinely takes into account, the user’s experience. The user is still a person and not just a consumer. Thank you!!!
Better Than Google. After being frustrated by Google search results, I’ve finally found something that works. For a few months my searches of specific questions on Google only led me to advertisers. Also, I would often have my questions misinterpreted. For example: this week I tried to look up the name of the anti-nuclear weapon system Germany sent to Ukraine. My search results for that query on Google were “ingenuity domes” - a styrofoam dome house. The result only could have been pulled up based on my previous searches for styrofoam dome houses. The phrases that clearly demonstrated I was looking for information about a current event (not a house, which was a totally separate concept) were ignored. I despise not finding what I want when I’m struck by a question. My interests span the vast array of whatever my ADHD has latched onto in the moment. It’s probably very hard to predict what I want to see. Before the updated algorithm I could usually get to what I wanted without issue. But recently Google has been failing me. I needed a new solution. When I first tried DuckDuckGo, I was worried that the search results wouldn’t be as high quality. While very frustrating in the past few months, I’ve been relying on Google for a long time and really only use it for online browsing. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the content that Duck returns. Even when searching controversial topics you can find trustworthy information. I think the appeal for many people downloading this app is their privacy policies. However, the search algorithm it uses is vastly superior to Google’s at the moment. DuckDuckGo should market itself to all the frustrated people who can tell Google is dying. If you’re desperate need of a better search engine, this is it.
Browser keeps going to blank!. I’m really struggling to work with this browser. Fast, yes, when it loads the desired page(s). But I’d say 1/2 of the time I’ve been on it the page loads to blank. Or, even worse, I’m in the middle of an extended search, moving thru various pages and all of a sudden I end up with that darn blank page AND if I go back ALL of my previous pages are now blank as well. ‘Sometimes’ if I close the browser and go back the page reloads, refresh does not do the trick. But, who wants to put up with this? It’s the most infuriating situation when this occurs and it’s happened to me now on way too many occasions. I looked thru the page on how to “send feedback” but did not see DuckDuckGo Mobil listed within those items. I’m beyond frustrated with this browser😩
Great searching capabilities + not intrusive + no popups. Great searching capabilities + not intrusive + no popups + not vulnerable to hackers & no longer their warnings+ easy to use+ respectful of privacy + as a result gives peace of mind + do not need the activation of some protection at service providers end to be protected from hacker initiated attacks. For google & Safari I had to request protection help from AT& T and they activated something or software at their end to stabilize searching, viewing and use in general. Without a doubt DuckDuckGo is the best product even better than Firefox. It is reliable. The only thing lacking is free DuckDuckGo email or competitive monthly subscription or yearly fee & should allow large attachments. Currently I pay google monthly fee for gmail service.
