Chord! App Description & Overview

What is chord! app? Chord! is a chord and scale reference that works with any fretted instrument like guitar, basses, ukulele, banjos,… It computes and analyses all the possible fingerings for chords, scales, and arpeggios.

With Chord!, you can also write a song by simply dragging and dropping chords, transpose it in any key, compute the fingerings with any tuning and generate a beautiful print-ready PDF, etc.

You can also import your existing songs in text format (please note that the app does not ship with songs). You can also link audio tracks from your music library and play them at the same time while adjusting their pitch and/or speed.

You don't even have to know music theory to use it: behind its brute force, the app knows how to handle by itself some subtleties of music to give meaningful results.

If you don't have to be an advanced player to use the app, you can however take a look under the hood and tweak the parameters if you like! Whatever is your level or your instrument, Chord! will adapt and give you the most precise answer.

You can search for any chord, split (like D/F#), or not. If you're a beginner, you can choose the chord from a list, but you can also use the intelligent keyboard to enter the chord as it is written. If this keyboard is a great way to enter chords, it is also very useful to discover and understand how the chords are formed. You can also enter some notes on a neck to find which chords it can be. You can hear how each fingering sounds. Chord arpeggios are also supported, as well as drop voicings (drop 2, drop3, etc.).

The app also ships with the biggest list of named scales (and you can create your own scales). It analyses and presents them with nice interactive views (scale, score, and keyboard). Of course, it can also lay down these scales on a neck (with sound) and compute their fingerings. Like for chords, you can even search for a scale from its fingering!

Each scale can be harmonized (decomposed into chords). You can also enter a sequence of chords to find which scale you can use to improvise onto.

You can use one of the hundred tunings that ship with the app, or you can add your own ones, for any instrument, with or without a capo, even with broken strings if you want!

The app uses custom and unique algorithms to generate charts, easily input complex harmonic structures, extract chords from fingerings, determine finger positions, compute keys of scales, generate chords from scales and find scales that go well with some chords.

For example, Chord! is the right tool in these situations:
• You want to have your songbook available at any time, in your pocket;
• You're a beginner and you want to know how to play easily a D/F# chord;
• One gave you a ukulele and you want to know how to tune it and how to play the G Hawaiian scale;
• You want to know on what scale you can improvise for some chord sequence (and the answer can be different than the Pentatonic minor!);
• You want to print your song and share it with your band.
• You want to experiment with this nice open tuning, moreover with a bottleneck;
• Your little sister can't make bar chords and you want to show her how she can do without bars, with three (little) fingers only;
• You want to impress your little sister by showing her how you can play the same chords with two bars!
• You want to understand how this fingering for C13 is actually a fingering for C13;
• You broke a string and want to know how to play some chords without;
• You want to know how Django managed to play with two and a half fingers.

The app fully supports left-handed instruments.

Main functions of the app:
- Write, transpose, fingerize, print, and share songs;
- Search chord fingerings (or chord charts);
- Search chords from fingerings;
- Search scale fingerings;
- Search scales from fingerings;
- Search chords from scale;
- Search scales from chords.

No need of other apps for life time. Best app to learn chords, more than 1000 different scales and scales fingering patterns. I paid and downloaded this before few years but I still use it everyday. Best one.

This app is the best for so many reasons. The first thing that turned me onto this app is when I saw a Sweetwater music demonstration and I saw that you could do a reverse chord & scale search. That is invaluable for those of us who don’t have perfect knowledge of theory or have every chord and scale memorized. It is so immensely helpful when I write a riff (sometimes it’s some crazy jagged odd notes I add in for a color) and I can enter the notes into this app and have it not only tell me what scale it is but also easily see all the other notes connected across the neck. That’s not even really scratching the surface here though. You can also add extra strings to your virtual guitar so regardless of what tuning or how many strings you have (Bass/ or Guitar)it will accommodate you. You can view the notes across the piano or a guitar neck as well. I’m sure other reviewer‘s have more in depth reviews, but those are the things that were the dealbreaker for me and I wouldn’t wanna have to be without this application. Thank you to the developer😉🤜🏻🤛🏻

Powerful chord app. I have been using Chord! For over 4 years and I depend on it when I’m practicing new and old songs. I play in a church band where we play a wide range of worship music from contemporary to old hymns. Many different chords to know and Chord! Has been my go to app.

Best Modular Chord App. Chord! isn’t just a dictionary of chords - it’s completely customizable down to the tuning and number of strings on the instrument. You can specify quality and every inversion of any chord and Chord! will tell you how to play it - and that’s just the chord features.

Really solid and well done!!. Like a lot of people I have bought many scale and chord apps. They have all been useful and I've learned a great deal from them. This app really brings together the best combination of musical utility and interface usability. The layout is very intuitive and shows that a lot of time and attention was put into its design. The charts and diagrams are clean and readable. There are many options for viewing both chords and scales and the sound is very good. I have just gotten started with the app so I will have more to say about it but so far this is definitely my first choice for studying chords and scales.

Over priced for sure. Not great for the price and to much on the screen while using Save your money and use a free app Sending back to cloud

Brilliant!. The one negative reviewer on here doesn't seem to understand just what this app is doing. This is far more than a limited static database of shapes and way more impressive than any other chord app you're going to find on the App Store. This is like Wolfram Alpha for stringed instruments. If you need an F#11sus2add6 chord, this app will find 85 different ways to play it. If you need to know which chords work for a Eb Neapolitan Minor scale (or hundreds of other scales in any key) this app will find it... On the fly. It won't clutter up your phone with silly pre-made images of chord shapes. The possibilities for customization are astounding. Intervals, finger span, and on and on... This one is a mind-boggler. Well worth it if you're serious about exploring musical possibilities. I use it mainly for the ukulele, which is a very limiting instrument, but this app gets the job done... Every time.

Truly exceptional. There is so much low effort app sludge aimed at people learning guitar that buying one is a gamble. Frankly they are cash grabs. This app though has put in the work. Clear and simple. No ads no subscription nonsense and surpasses my expectations in every way. It’s more for musicians who want a reference resource than for hand holding note by note learning.

Above and beyond. This isn’t some shallow theory/reference app, this is an incredible tool. The apps Depth and customization far exceeds its asking price. Highly recommend for any guitar or key player. Great for experimenting with chord progressions and matching scales. Wonderful app through and trough.

Thanks for the update!. At last this app is living up to the promise of a truly professional tool. For example, trying to find the correct chords in DADGAD to accurately store Kashmir was just about impossible, now doable and fairly easily. Keep up the good work, there is still progress to be made in simplifying the user interface, and I know you are up to the challenge! I'm giving five stars to express the wide scope of improvements represented in this update, the program is moving much closer to becoming my only transcribing tool. I have been playing Guitar and programming and working in the computer industry for about the same length of time, since 1982, and am still amazed when I see something I never dreamed would come during my lifetime suddenly arrive on my iPad!

Fantastic!. Besides playing the guitar I play Charango, Ronroco, Vihuela and Cuatro. Finally found application that allows me to make my own custom stringed instruments tuned at my will and with how many strings you have it really finds all the chords! I strongly recommend it! Thanks for this gem!

Thank you. Truly amazing work!!!!! I would love to see a tab builder in the future! Thank you for your hard work!

THE BEST. Holy sh**! This is the best chord app I have ever seen. I used to pay a monthly subscription for one, but this one is even better and the price is AMAZING! Don’t think twice, just get it!

steep learning curve. i often use this app to “reverse search chords” when playing new ideas by ear. It would be great if i could immediately save the notes i selected on the neck as a new chord fingering. as it stands, i need to click the fingering area in the top right, and often going through the additional pain of creating a custom fingering (or scrolling endlessly through the generated fingerings looking for the one in inputted on the neck) this app seems very powerful, but i do not yet feel as if i totally know how to use it. more tutorials and guidance would be great.

Superb tool. This app is exactly what I was looking for. If you find yourself grappling with problems like how to efficiently play the D Phrygian Dominant scale on a banjo (as I do) then this is indubitably the app you’ve been looking for.

Best Chord/Scale App Ever!. Chord! is by far the best guitar app available. I’ve owned it for several years now and continue to find it extremely useful. It has the best user interface design for any guitar app that I’ve seen as well. Chord! should to be the first app that appears in the App Store when you search “guitar”.

The Best App For Song Writing. Seriously it’s extremely detailed yet remains a pleasure to use.

Excelent App. This is a very good App, that needs a replica or duplicate app for instruments like: keyboards. App needs update for iPhone XS Max

Finally Someone Got It Right!!. I normally don’t do reviews but I had to for this one!! I’ve been searching for years an app that would let me jot down chords to songs I’ve learned, compose them with my custom chords/fingering, show the fret above the words....AND print it out!! Are you kidding me? This is awesome! I’m a developer and I know how much work went into this!! Thank you so much. A bit of a learning curve but not much. Well worth it!! And that’s ON TOP of all the other stuff it does! Lots of songs to compose now!!!

GET THIS, NOW!. I have been playing guitar for about 11 years and I use this app all of the time. It makes for an exceptional reference tool and is worth every penny I paid for it. The app has a great flow and feel to it and the interface is very pleasing visually and functionally. There really isn't anything quite like this app on the App Store. Though this app may not be the greatest for beginners, I still say that this app is a MUST HAVE for ANY guitar player, regardless of skill level, mostly because of its ability to generate tons of chord voicings in whatever tuning you're using. Plus, you can have 10 string tunings for maximum dj0nt. 11/10.

Brilliant App. The interface is bizarre in places. You often can't figure out how to do something. It's unlike anything you've used.... but you'll FORGIVE every one of those things when you realize how this app works. It constructs and manages chords and scales in the most versatile way I've ever seen. It doesn't just have chord and scale charts but it will "construct" chords and scales dynamically according to your playing and harmonizing needs. Kudos to the developer for going way beyond what anybody else has, plus giving you a good songbook so you can build songs using these wonderful tools, right inside the app. Be patient with it, and you'll be rewarded.

Wonderful app!. Well deserving of 5 stars!I’m brand new to music theory, and am very much a visual learner. This is the perfect app for someone like me, who often needs very detailed examples of self-taught subjects. Every detail of the app seems interwoven & relative. I don’t seem to get confused or needing to refer back to another part that was learned and quickly forgotten. In other words, because this app defines concepts as you see it, it’s very easy to understand and explore the material without getting lost or ahead of yourself. Sorry if I can’t explain it the best way possible, but for those that are visual learners, or perhaps have challenges with attention or memory, this is the music theory app for you!

My favorite music app. I’m the type who always asks “why?”, so when I learn & improvise on guitar I like to know the theory behind it. I pull out this app all the time to understand chords I see in tabs or to figure out a weird chord I just came up with. It also does scales, so I can see all the notes of a scale on the fretboard — if I plug in one of those weird chords I made up, it will show me what scales it fits in, so I can try out other chords that might work with it. It’s just invaluable, and the UI is so polished. A must-buy.

Gets better each time I use it. There is a lot too this app and a bit of a learning curve, but I seem to find a new way to use it every time. It does the basics you would expect in a chord app like showing you fingering variations, reverse chord lookup or key transposition. But there are also some unique features that help with figuring out or creating sings -- you can enter a partial list of chords and it will figure out all the potential scales,keys and modes that harmonize. Has helped a lot with me learning more about theory and understanding the fretboard better.

Read before buying.. In the ad video they showed what seemed like an audio playback from composed cord progressions and sadly it does not do this. It’s an alright tool. But they need to give a 7 day trial before asking you to pay.

Best App of It’s Kind. I’ve tried a bunch of apps that do this sort of thing and this is easily the best. You won’t be disappointed

Chords in the scales. Would like to see the chord fingerings in each of the scales

Wonderful. This app is a gem. Since it has so much to offer, there is a bit of a learning curve, but so worth the effort. Also, I had a question early on, and the developer responded right away. Along with iReal Pro, Chord! is a great addition to my music toolbox. Thanks.

Most beautiful app. Absolutely the best app I’ve ever discovered. I’ve been playing guitar for over 50 years nothing beats Chord, nothing even comes close, Chord will ultimately go down in history as the most educational musical/guitar app ever made...

Great update with a bug. Finally an update that adapts to bigger screens after all these years! However I can’t turn on iCloud sync. There’s a popup that tells me my iCloud account changed and I need to reactivate it in settings, every time I try to reactivate it in settings.

Best Guitar App!. This app is very customizable, and it looks good too! I mostly just use it to look up chords, and it's worth it to me just for that feature, but it has a lot of other features to. I really like to play with the different voices that it generates. It always throws me chord shapes I'd never considered! I especially like that the chords are generated based on your tuning, so no matter what crazy tuning you are in, you can still find the chord you need right away. Most other chord resources are E standard or s.o.l. Also, the developer is constantly improving little things to make it all the more easy to use.

Impressive Features. Yes it’s a bit difficult to figure out but you are forgiven! Great Job! btw.. FYI... wouldn’t a C Blues #V scale have a G#? There’s a flatted 5 instead, maybe needs an update? Recommendations: Allow our custom scales and Chords to be searchable from the list. Allow us to chose the Key center in which to reference our custom scales and chords. For example, in A blues I want to modify the Am blues scale with a Robben Ford scale which is a blues scale but swap the flatted 7th with the 6th (great sound btw). After adding this to my customized scales area your app forces the key center to G minor but my intention is to use this scale in a A Blues progression. Wouldn’t it be crazy (in a good way) to allow the user to modify that key center to see what other interesting chords get recommend?

Best I’ve found so far. This app works extremely well for what I need. I type out the lyrics of a song I wish to learn, then add the chords. The track I am learning from can be included and played right in the app, which is a big help in transcribing the lyrics and getting all the chord changes in the right places. There are fields to enter info like title and composer, etc. Then as I work on learning to do the song, it can be transposed if I need to fit better into my vocal range (or to accommodate my collaborator). There are more cool features that I don’t use right now, but I’m glad to know they are there when I get ready to learn more. I highly recommend this app for anyone who wants to learn and share songs. My thanks to the dev for making this app and keeping it up to date. Bravo!!

Must-Have. This is a must-have App for beginners and intermediate guitar players looking to learn a wide variety of chords AND for advanced players looking to arrange and find new ways to play around with theory. ONLY gripe is that the UX can be a little obtuse at first, but you learn it relatively quickly.

Great app for guitarist and songwriters. Excelent source of chords and scales that save time 👍

Elegant UI, Immense Content, Simply Fantastic!. As a long time player, I was looking for something that could help my theory understanding expand as well as provide reference for modes over squirrelly chords. The app is brilliant in it's simplicity, controls, presentation and logic. I'm rarely deeply impressed, but this is truly a world class treasure that is now on all my iOS devices. While it does not offer any deep treatise on theory, the linkages between the cords, their harmonics and scalar modes, provides all the necessary substance with no filler. No long winded blathering, just the facts (all easy to find, thoughtfully related and cross referenced) Thank you for offering such a fantastic, easy to use, artistically thoughtful app!

Scales bug. Love this app! I tried many chord/scales apps for guitar playing and this was by far the best. Thanks!

Chord Search not working…last updated 2 YEARS AGO. Not able to add chords. The method for doing so, "chord search" simply doesn’t work. I don’t even know how it’s supposed to work but I know it’s definitely not working as it is.

The best "chord-finder" app. I am a pianist, but I use Chord! to help compare and select voicings with my band's guitarist. This app is so well thought-out! It actually knows HOW to build a chord, rather than simply being a dictionary of them. If you have at least a little music-theory background and are willing to spend a few minutes with this app, it will become an indispensable tool.

Worth it!. I don’t really like paying for apps. I don’t know why, maybe I am just old and still think paying for digital things is strange. But this was worth it. Thomas has made an amazing app that I use all the time to store my songs and chords in. Sometimes I am noodling around and I find a chord or voicing that I really like but don’t know what it is; the reverse chord finder helps me find it quickly and save it for later. It has made my noodling sessions so much more productive by not forgetting the next day what that cool sounding chord was. And that just skims the surface for features. Seriously considering buying his other app, songkit, because this app is so smooth.

The best gets better with tagging and iPad support. It's superb for scales, chords on guitar and bass. Others instruments are included, like banjo, and you can customize your own tunings as well. My favorite feature of the new update is the customizable tagging that allows you to organize favorites for multiple instruments and practice situations. It looks great on an iPad now too where you'll really see the benefits of the new songbook feature. I'm impressed to see iCloud storage now too. I contacted the developer for support on the last version and he was great to talk with. This is one of the good guys in the app development world. The only problem I had with the update is that the import of my old tunings crashed and I lost them, but there were so many new features and refinements that it was easy for me to enter them again. Take note of your customizations before enabling iCloud, but overall it is a huge update that's totally worth a little re-entry.

Use it daily. I use it daily and I can’t recommend it enough.

Fantastic tool.. I am not a stringed instrument player, they have confounded me for decades (honestly it's a cognitive disconnect). But with this tool I finally feel in command. I tell it what I want to play and how I want to play it and it shows me how to accomplish that goal. I tell it that I want to see what that song would look like on a completely different instrument or tuning and it shows me... Fantastic. The app itself is deep and complex and could benefit from some simplification in the UI. If I had not been someone who has been using computers for music since the 80s I might have been a bit more lost. As it turned out, I still found it challenging. The developer needs better documentation and a good set of how to movies right away. To avoid people getting frustrated. I did have a problem with the app not showing me common fingerings of basic mandolin and ukulele chords but I emailed the developer and got a response that was honest and clear the same day. I am confident he is actively working on this project and dedicated to making it better. Good thing too, because it is great. If this had been available 30 years ago I would be calling myself a string player today. *Update May 30th 2022* Thanks so much for the Apple silicon version! I don’t have a M1 Mac yet, but I will soon and it’s great to know I will be able to use this there as well.

Best chord app you never knew existed.. I’m not fond of the interface but this is one powerful app. I also wish the color coding worked, it doesn’t for some reason and never has for me. I use this for all my stringed instruments, from ukulele to 5 string banjo to 8 string guitar, it works for them all. I find that I’m using this to learn scales and theory way more than tabs. It is in dire need of an update but it’s still totally worth it.

Over rated, difficult to use. I paid good money for this based on the reviews and I find it totally useless. Yes it has every possible chord you can dream of, but it's way too difficult to get to them, list them or use them in a song. When you finally do manage to put them in a list it may show as note relationships rather than a chord. Huh. It has a myriad of useless features and none of them are easy to do. It requires way too many steps to do anything. Way too many menus and different kinds of lists. Overkill on menus and very lacking in ease of use. I just spent 20 minutes pressing buttons to put a small group of chords in a pallet. Then I look and it's not even chord symbols in the pallet - it's note relationships. Oh that's probably another needless setting I didn't know about and I'm not going to waste my time doing it again! It's super difficult to add chords to a song or do anything relating to actually making music. Every thing this app does requires way too many steps. Not intuitive. Not easy to do anything. If you want to spend hours geeking out on your phone to chord symbols, you'll love it. If you want something the will help you actually play the guitar, this isn't going to help. Actually after trying about every chord app available, they are all terrible and this one is probably better than the others. Great on details, terrible on usability.

Spectacular. Had this app since 2014 when majoring in music theory and it does wonders for those are trying to get into music theory. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

Needs update to ios13. The app is very good for me

Amazing app - phenomenal lead sheets. Been playing guitar over 40 years, and have used an iPad as a learning/composing/recording/transcribing/lead sheet creation tool for as long as iPads have existed. This is one of the best apps I’ve ever come across. Everything is quite intuitive, but the online documentation clarifies anything that you can’t figure out from context. I hope the developer continues to support it. I’m extremely impressed.

Support. You definitely need a user guide to understand how to use this app. There’s one online but developer will not offer a downloadable pdf. Very nice, comprehensive app but I need downloadable pdf for when I’m without WiFi

My most used music app!. I have bought well over 30 musician apps to help me become a better musician but this one is my most used app. I use it every day!! Sure it has chord look ups and cool features, but my biggest use case is to use it for live setlists. If you are playing live at a gig, it’s helpful to have your list of songs with their chords and lyrics. This app makes that so easy to do! Just import a regular chord text file and it recognizes which parts are chords and which parts are lyrics. You can then group and reorder all your songs into set lists. What is really cool over other set list apps is the fact that you can customize a chord to the specific one you play and with an easy replace function it allows you to apply your special chord to the entire song! It even has an auto scroll function plus a way to associate the song with an Audio track so you can play along with your own backing track. This app is so powerful, the only downside I see is that it has a steep learning curve and I which there were better tutorials to help people learn what took me a little while to pick up!

Description. Is full of grammar and general errors please proof read your work ...

Attention to details. I actually can’t believe the depth of detail this app has. The developer has put some serious thought and effort into this. Well done

Amazing. I've spent $30 on apps trying to find an app that does what I want. This app is amazing if your trying to find new chords and progressions for a song your writing

Perfect!. This app is exactly what I have been looking for; all the chords, notes, scales and arpeggios laid out in front of you. No need to figure it out yourself, simply dial up the chord and all the information is presented to you in a easy to digest format. Big thanks to the creator!

I should have purchased earlier. I’ve got plenty of bass guitar apps but I use this one (and a tuner) a lot. Interface is easy to navigate and there are plenty of useful features.

Great.... It boggles the mind this awesome app doesn't have more reviews. Download it now. It's awesome.

Perfection. Congratulations on the latest update! I have been waiting for well over a year, and you have delivered. It's beautiful and powerful. It's amazingly useful and does exactly what I need, and have needed since my first ios device. The customizable features a brilliant, and compliments my practice, teaching and composition. I short, I just love this. Well done!

Amazing App for chord charts. I am amazed at how deep this app goes into chord structure. Utilizes circle of fifths to configure chords in any key Major or Minor. Includes reverse lookup for chords and song chord chart creation. Takes a little time to realise what a gem this app is. I am convinced this dev is a genius 😀

Great app but I’m struggling with the workflow. I got this app as I wanted to study and learn a few songs with more complex chord progressions and fingering, some Djavan and Jobim bossa style acoustic numbers. Love the standard chord engine in the app, can often get either the fingering I want or a fairly close estimate by playing with string and voicing variations. I’m sure there must be something I’m missing but I am really struggling with the workflow for getting these chords into an existing tune. There seems to be a real disconnection between the chord/fingering page and the song. Right now when I click into the chord / fingering page from the song viewer any changes I make (custom or a different variation) are not reflected in the song when I leave that page. To change the chord in the song the only way I have found is to enter the edit page. However this page has a different chord engine without the versatility of the main one. You can access custom fingering from there easily but not other variations. Also means a lot of going back and forth between the two chord engines before finally pasting the chord you want. So much easier if chords just saved directly to the tune from the main chord engine. Please tell me what I am doing wrong! Would love to give this app a better rating as there is a lot of depth to it but I am wasting so much time with the workflow that I feel like giving it up.

Must have. Such a great tool when when you are noodlibg around and want to find the name of the chord or scale. Amazing collection of scales - far beyond what other apps offer. Developer is very responsive to feedback and questions. Best app I have bought

Chord! is a must have app. This is a fabulous app with an incredible amount of detail which is easy to find and navigate. You should visit the home page first and read through the support files. When I thought that something was wrong it was only because I had not set a parameter correctly. I have found any errors but it has allowed me to identify errors in chord charts from other people. This is an ultimate value for money app! well done guys.

Not for beginners. I've played guitar many years but always by ear. I was hoping to be able to enter the chords on tab if I don't know the name but don't seem to be able to. I thought from the description I could. So a waste if time for me. Happy to change review if I'm wrong.

Good for Songwriting. I have been looking for an app for songwriting for some time. Others I have tried are disappointing. This app is great. Can now put names to the chords I come up with. Lots of features and settings. Good work developer!

The best Chord! app ever. I’ve been using Chord! for quite some time and I just have good things to say about it! It’s just the best! ♥️🙏🏼🤘🏼

Extremely useful with great depth of features. Couldn’t live without it

Chord Rocks!. I love this app! It lets me structure my chords exactly the way I want them! The only thing I really, really want is the ability to manually arrange my set lists! Guys??? 🙃

Chord Exclamation Mark!. Adding the "!" to the app name is no exaggeration. This is the chord app to beat all chord apps. A huge amount of thought has gone into this and it is by far the best app to help illustrate chord and scale structures to beginners, and it is a handy encyclopedia for seasoned pros. Someone said it is great for teachers and they were absolutely right. It's also good for gigging musicians, students, and beginners just looking to find the right chord, scale or harmony for a musical idea.

Lost. I’m sure this is a good app, but I’m having a hell of a time doing anything productive with it. I just can’t figure it out.

Not good. I didn't like this app one bit

Full of features, & powerful. This app was my got for writing down lyrics. But also I used it to put gospel songs into for practice. It is clean and easy. If I would suggest anything(if they do not exist) it would be YouTube tutorials. Only because there are so many features and at first it may be hard. For myself figuring out how to put capo tunings. I bought song kit today so I might not be using Chords! Anymore. Switching up because I want to change keys etc more and just songkit looks more powerful. Much love and respect to this developer. I wish there were more apps and developers like this. Today I think I will export a song or two onto my PC/Mac and learn more about the way the app structures songs. Usually on my iPhone or iPad I cut and paste and import from guitar tab sites which often is alittle messy( not apps fault) sometimes a mouse and keyboard helps. But the apps ability to auto detect cut and pasted songs is great I wish I knew about it earlier on. Other guitar tab apps are disappointing and or expensive. Why do I need a monthly subscription to lookup or use user generated guitar tabs/chords? Chords is the best alternative to such sites IMHO Cut and paste and make a few songs collections. Done

No way to hear your song. I like the app’s interface, and it lets me build my own chord fingerings but when I build a song I would want to hear how it sounds too, especially with my own fingerings. There doesn’t seem to be a way to audio play my created song in this app. The play button only scrolls the song sheet. Not worth the price I paid.

Fantastic!. Hands down the best app for collecting and organizing songs, figuring out chords and scales, as well as transposing to different keys and tunings. It's great that it's available for both iPhone and iPad, however a Mac version would be really handy too. Hopefully soon!

Amazing. But the thing wrong is that it doesn't actually have a built in tuner. Also, it should have an audio with the sample song so you can et a better understanding.

Astonishing!. Such useful application! I am a musician myself, and the application is very convenient in time where I have an inspiration or questions! Recommended for all musicians!

Love this app so much. Been using it for a year or two, love it!

Pfff. What a waste of time and money, not at all what I imagined from the reviews, way to much messing around, when I’m using a guitar app I have my guitar in my lap and I’m ready to go an app like this requires far to much attention, there are much better apps out there..

Wow!!!. I purchased this app for chords and scales references but I discovered a very great app to create chords sheets. This app is simply amazing!!! There is so many settings when you need to create a PDF file from a chords sheets. You can import Chord Pro files type or Text files. You can use drag n drop to add chords into your lyrics. Now, I only used this app to create PDF files for use with Music Binder. Congratulation to the authors of this app. I will recommend it to everyone.

Best Chord and Scale app for teachers and students!. Highly recommended - I use this every lesson on the iPad, and use the iPhone app when meeting potential students.

Bravo!. At last, I found it. Perfect to use as my songwriting companion. Love it.

Outstanding. I've been looking for an app that does this for years. It functions nearly exactly how I envisioned it in my mind. It's dead simple to create with, and the exported product is cleanly designed. While it's obviously great for writing your own tabs, it also satisfies my annoyances with the tabs of others. Not everybody creates their tabs in the same style... some only give chords for half the song, some list chords that aren't right, or they format them totally different. This app allows you to copy them in, edit to your liking, and then export back into whatever you use for tab management. This truly might be one of the best designed apps I've seen in quite a while.

not compatible with iPad. Unlike advertised, it is NOT compatible with an iPad. Is it too much to ask to make the app universal?

Apple Music?. Good app but the songbook doesn’t recognize the songs I’ve downloaded from Apple music.

Please optimize for iPhone X screen. Nice app but needs to be optimized for iPhone X screen

Excellent !!. I love this app ! It is very easy to use and you have every chords, scales and infos you can deam of ! Moreover, the app developpers really hear what users have to say to improve their product. I'll recommand this app to any guitar player. Keep up your good work :)

Perfect. If you're searching for an app to keep track of your music in, stop. You found what you're looking for. This is one of the most well thought out apps I've ever come across. You will definitely not be disappointed in this app. Five stars all day. Easy decision.

Amazing. I can't believe how great this app is more than I dreamed it would be after reading the description worth way more than the $5 you pay for it. Highly suggest this together with Jamn for songwriters to make rearranging and transposing a much quicker process! Love it!

Fantastic update. This is a fantastic app that just got much better with the latest update. Not only were great new features added, but some minor save and backup bugs were fixed by a very responsive developer. Outstanding app. Indispensable for a guitar player/songwriter.

Groovy !. I say groovy since I'm a drummer keeping the beat, but I've got song ideas in my head! This app helps me get those tunes outta my head and to the rest of my band mates! I don't know guitar that well, this app really helps me communicate my ideas in a way guitar players understand ...that's really groovy!

Greatness. Get this.. My favorite guitar instruction tool. Has almost everything this will keep u busy. The dev is very helpful and assures what the app is missing such as arpeggios is coming. Can't replace this

The best "chords" application in AppStore. It's hard to imagine more convenient application for learning chords. Great thanks for developers for such though-out and user-friendly application.

The best chord reference ever!. I've been playing guitar for 30 years, self taught. This is the best reference for stringed instrument chords I've come across. Any chord that is possible, and some that almost aren't, can be found here. It's amazing. I could live without the songbook aspect of it. For that I would prefer Songbook pro or onSong.

Chord, great app !. I now you did the update but it's overall fantastic but with we want to make our own chord and broke them up ? We should be able to be able to put them on the song . Not all chords that we used or want to use are there . So it would be good if we made our own chords for songs . It would help . Thanks

Incredible Update. This is an amazing update to an already amazing app. I especially love the new songwriter feature, iPad compatibility, and iCloud sync! This is the best reference app I have ever used for guitar and many other stringed instruments! It is packed with features and beautifully designed and executed. The way the app calculates chords and scales instead of storing an image for each one opens it up to so many possibilities, from quick chord analysis to reverse searches (inputting the notes you're playing to find out what chord it is). I just love this app!

Please Fix Reverse Chord Search. Please bring back the old version of "Reverse Search" for Chords!!!!! The update has made it far less helpful. I loved how you could tap a note and hear it immediately and then swipe to play the full chord. That was such an awesome feature! Now, I have to input the note and press a button to play the chord... Please, please, please - bring back the original Reverse Chord Search!

Amazing App. This app is truly incredible. I still can't believe how much information and how many features it has, and you'll be able to learn as much or as little about music theory as you want. Great for writing and covering songs! If you're a musician, you need this app!

One of my favorites. I use this app almost daily! it helps me whether I'm working with songs for school or just for my own work. The new update is awesome as well, very seamless additions.

Pretty good but has potential to be great.. Very good app but there are a couple things I wish it had. For writing songs I wish it had a tab style document. Also the reverse chord lookup does not work as well as I thought it would. Then lastly, I wish it had more descriptions on what makes a key of a song and what 5, 7, and 9 mean. This is not the greatest for beginners/mediocre players. Overall great app for reference and more advanced players.

Nice but chord and tuning history doesn't work. History really doesn't work at all for chords, tunings too. Always just shows empty list and "search for something" - and for scales, that do show history, I have to favorite them for them to show up. Reverse chord lookup pls come back! And would be better with a feature to find scales by inputting a chord progression. No other app can do this except Octavian (kind of)

One of the best apps I have ever used. Great app. Take any song with the chords in it, cut and paste, clean up with edit and the fingerize. Bam, your done. You are able to get any fingering of any chord you want, change one chord or change them all. This is one app I would never be without.

Amazing useful full featured app. If you don't feel like taking the time to learn an app, then download something else. If you want to take the time to learn everything this app has to offer, you are in for a treat. My favorite option on here is the ability to open tabs up from the Ultimate Guitar Tabs app with the click of a button(literally) and have it copied into the songbook. Then be able to add and edit it. I love this app and haven't even discovered half of what it can do. I would of paid double the price.

Thanks!. This app is quite seriously the answer to many prayers. It covers a number of more 'obscure' scales, particularly Carnatic and Hindustani modes that are so immensely useful, all in an interface that is incredibly simple, clean, and beautiful. This app is worth at least 5 times as much for all the information it packs in such a wonderful format. Good work!

Perfect, almost. Just needs integration with other song banks for easier importing. This app had potential to be a one stop shop for chords, sheet music, and even some music theory lessons. Thanks developer, this app is definitely $5 well spent.

Chord!. Thought app was a little pricey. After download and use i would pay double. Perfect resource tool laid out well and easy to use. Very nice.

The best I've seen. Thank you for this app. I am a long time guitarist and guitar teacher, I have used many if not all of the chord tab etc apps out there and this is by far the best currently. I really appreciate it!! Yes it takes some initial work to learn the app and navigate, but that's because it is packing a ton of useful features in there. Spend some time copy pasting with the songbook section alone and you will ditch the UG pop up ads for good. Would love a desktop version to sync with too!

Well done!. Been using this for a week now, love it. Yes a bit of a learning curve (30 minutes to fully explore and get the hang of it), like any good tool. I've been making song sheets for the boys, you can fully customize output and save your templates, all elements on a page can be sized and margins and fonts adjusted. Sync over the cloud between devices... Had a few questions, the developer got back to me quickly. All in all this is worth more than the asking price.

No iPad version? Still awesome.. I teach guitar full-time at a magnet high school and couldn't be happier with this app. It is amazing and very flexible. I love the ability to grab images of charts. It would be nice if there was an iPad version, though!

Grimoire in an app. If you're looking for an app with few (if any) restrictions on instrument type (as long as it has a fretboard) or tuning, that answers about any scale, mode, chord, or fingering question, looks great, and features a well thought-out UI, you've found it. In a word...phenomenal.

Wow!. In two minutes of checking out this app I can see how cool this is going to be. I love the fact that you can play and hear the chords as you change the voicing. Pretty intuitive to use.

Essential. I had spent years writing all my tabs in a paper notebook. That thing was like 200 pages long, but since I've tried this app, I've never gone back to the paper version. This has just about everything I could need or want in an app for tabs

Amazing. This is the best guitar app I've seen...and I download anything that I think will help me learn more. This app deserves every bit of the 5 stars. I'd give it 6 if I could. Worth every bit of the $5.

There is a reason the ratings are high. This is money well spent. It’s incredible how much the app provides. Be ready for a bit of a learning curve. That is not a criticism. The app is incredibly full. I had a question on accessing something on the iPad. The developer responded with the answer in under 20 minutes. YMMV - but so many apps have no support. This isn’t one of them.

Deep but difficult to navigate. This app is very deep, which would get it a solid 5 stars if it were more intuitive to navigate. But the Byzantine nature of its design makes it "frustratingly deep" rather than "simply incredible." So while I reluctantly recommend it, it's not for those looking for a fast easy reference tool.

Musicians, this is the best chord app!. I can't wait to use this more but it is definitely the most full-featured. I would love a desktop app or web interface to use for working on the .CRD files, but I'll manage! Thank you!

Exceptional. Not only is it far and away the best guitar/stringed instrument chord and scale app on the App Store, it is one of the best apps in the App Store, period. It is obvious that hundreds of hours of work went into it and the attention to detail is very impressive.

Best chord app bar none. So much content that'll keep every guitar player busy. One thing that would complete this is arpeggios. Thank you

Serious Guitar App. This is the most complete guitar app in my collection. It is complex and it has many uses. I use it mostly to review chord fingerings and I would highly recommend it.

Impressive. This is a very deep and powerful app, especially for the price. The interface can be tricky at times, but eventually I always figured out how to do what I wanted.

Complicated.. I agree that this app is amazing, but to beginner guitarists/musicians, the chord/scale searching can be very complicated. It is also a bit laggy at some points. I do know it is the first version, so I expect great updates from them as they made an excellent start.

Amazing. I really love the ability to reverse find chords and scales. You just tell it what your playing and it tells you what it is. Once you know what it is, it will tell you what other scales and chords would sound good with it.

The best just got better.... I was just thinking today I was wishing for auto scroll and I open the AppStore and here it is. Love this app. Original review: This app is incredible! I've finally found an app that lets me easily add chords to songs. This is gonna be a lifesaver. And that's just one of the many things it does. If you play any fretted instrument, buy this app.

Amazing app!. This app is amazing! I've tried countless other chord apps but they were somewhat limited because there were only a few different types of chords, and a couple of tunings. With this app, I can recreate virtually any type of stringed instrument I want, and generate any chord or scale I need in real time! This app actually uses an algorithm to create chords, and then can display interactive statistics and virtual models of any given chord. This is a must have for any guitarist who likes to experiment with different tunings!

Incredible!. Falling more in love with this app the longer I use it. So much depth to it, I keep stumbling across powerful tools I didn't even realize were there! Fantastic app, top quality, very useful. Worth the purchase without a doubt.

This is THE Update. After having this app for a few years now, I've noticed some drawbacks that hindered the use of what could have been an awesome app. This update addresses basically all of those drawbacks from before and is now a near perfect app. The addition of fingerings for scales and arpeggios are the ones I'm most excited about. Great job devs and keep up the outstanding work.

Powerful, but UI too complicated. Seriously, it's a little unnecessarily difficult to use. And I wonder where to bring up the piano keyboard like in one of the screenshots? I've searched everywhere and still can't find it. Overall it's a massively powerful app that needs some minor UI tweaks to make things work faster

This app has everything.. This app has been a big leap forward for me in my guitar, mandolin, and ukelele playing. It has every scale, chord, and tuning you could want on most stringed instruments that you could want. I have found this app incredibly useful and worth the money.

Finally!. At last! A simple to use yet powerful chord & scale app. Any tuning you want. Capo at any fret. Reverse lookup of chords or scales. Harmonization. I love this app! The only improvement I would like to see would be an iPad specific version utilizing the bigger screen.

My Must Have Guitar Companion!. I cannot say enough good things about “Chord!”. There is always something of wonderful use in this app whether you’re looking for a particular chord fingering or you just need to reference a specific scale. The “Settings” sections of this app make it a 4 star app all by themselves! The only thing not in “Chord!” is a metronome but I don’t feel that one is needed.

Bloated. Had this app a while, I really liked the earlier versions, but the addition of songs, and not being able to hide the songs section from main screen really spoiled it for me. Wish we could configure the main screen and hide stuff we don't use to reduce clutter. Good scales and chords app, but I'm looking for something simpler without all the stuff I don't use in the way.

tried the rest, this is the best. Awesome app. Best of its kind for any device. Much better than GuitarToolkit, recommend it to every musician I play with. Great developer support too, love that this is one of the first apps to be updated for my 6+!!

Serious musicians: this one's for you.. This app encompasses what expensive books and lessons teach you over time in just a few taps. I was blown away with the attention to detail and the plethora of information this little $5 tool brings. Any musician that is serious about improving should have this app. You'll find out what a Dmaj9(no.3) looks like and sounds like, as well as more ways of how to play it as you move along the neck. An invaluable tool to any person who wants to truly understand their craft. 5 stars!

Wonderful way to learn scales and chords!. This by far is the best way to learn scales an chords on a mobile device. There are so many apps out there that try to do this but Chord! does it right and does it the best! There are so many great and well thought out features that make this app a joy to use and learn from.

About time.. I have been waiting over a year for a good chord app for my iPhone. This is exactly what I've been looking for and I've tried with other apps but its never been just right. This app was exactly right.

Great App but does not sync. I have used this app for several years now and I love it. I love how I can transpose a song on the fly or modify the location of the chords. The issues I have found is the sync, and use of the app via family share, I share my apps purchased with my Wife and when I went to install on her iPad it is requiring me to purchase it again. But it says it is family share enabled.
