Good for extra cash, but it’s always crashing. I’ve been using Rover for over a year now and it’s been great using the app to earn extra cash. I set my rates and my schedule with it and can talk with clients through the app. Also, I love that you can contact their customer support line to edit the booking if the client makes a last minute cancellation or date change. I’ve had great service with the customer support line every time. HOWEVER. My biggest pet peeve is that IT IS ALWAYS CRASHING. I’ve updated to the latest software, I’ve deleted and reinstalled SEVERAL times, and I’ve reset my phone. Nothing has helped. It’s super frustrating because it’s always happening while I’m walking a client. In the middle of a walk, it’ll just shut off MY ENTIRE PHONE and my phone will restart. I can’t even open the app without it crashing 3 seconds later. Or I’ll try and add a picture/pee/etc, and it’ll crash. At times when I finish a walk or check-in, it’ll shut off my phone and when I try to open the app, the walks/check-ins will sit on the page and not send and I’ll try and send and it’ll restart my phone again. I get messages from owners because they’re concerned that they haven’t received a Rover card after it’s started and I have to explain that it’s a glitch. If this could be fixed, I’d give the app 5 stars.

Pretty great all around. I started using rover when I moved states to find someone to care for my pups when we’re gone. The app made it easy to find people close to us and sitter profiles make it easy to find someone you think is the best match and contact them. As I sitter Rover has been great at helping me build my business. Im a nursing student and I’ve been able to build a flexible business that I enjoy that brings in enough income to support my family. The app makes it easy to see what is on my schedule daily and communicate with my clients. There are a few things they could do to make it easier for me to modify my clients bookings as needed. My biggest complaint is how ridiculous the fees are for both pet parents and pet sitters. I understand they have to make money too and as the middle man they absolutely deserve their cut. They also provide rover support, vet help and other things that protect both the sitter and pets. But taking 20% of the sitters income from every service PLUS adding 3-5% in rover fees to pet parents service total is insane. Seems a little greedy if you ask me and that not how you keep sitters and pet parents to continue using the app for the their services.

Not worth the gig if you're trying to have your money instantly.... Like all other gigs, at least the one I've done, after your service is completed you get paid instantly. Well with Rover they hold your funds for 72hrs your first service and 48 after that and then release your funds which is understandable as they want to give the pet owners time to leave a review and/or report any issues they had. My problem comes in when sometimes I get paid 2 days after services as their policy states, but all of a sudden now I have been waiting almost a week for this most recent payment for a booking that gave me a 5 star rating with a $35 tip!!!! My problem with Rover is playing with people's hard earned money. It's a huge set back to not get paid within the timeframe you always get paid, especially being an adult with responsibilities. Do better Rover. I will be contacting support again tomorrow because at this point give me my money so I can cancel my upcoming bookings and deactivate my sitter account. I love animals so much, but business is business at the end of the day and I need my money within the timeframe the policy states, within the timeframe I always get paid. I'm not abiding by all the Rover rules anymore when Rover doesn't even follow their own. I'll start my own pet business from scratch where I get paid my full 100% as well cuz y'all don't even deserve the 20% y'all take out of our earnings. In summary, doing business with Rover is bad business.

Lies!!!!. So on my dogs profile I put that he doesn’t not get along with cats or other small dogs! When I booked with them I made sure I put all that information on my dogs profile! Along with the filters for having a fenced yard and no pets in the home! When we had dropped off my dogs the person in charge said she had puppies I told her do you want us to have our meet them first and she said no, I can have my husband do it later with me. I asked her if she had any training in greeting dogs together she told me yes. On top of that lie she said nothing about having a cat in the home. I told her my dog is a Alfa dog and does not get along with cats or small dogs that we have to make sure they get along. But she said she would have them separate. The following afternoon I get a phone call saying my dog attacked her cat! I told her you never told me you had a cat nor did it say it on your profile. I have screen shot I sent them of her lying about having any other pets in the home! And also showed them screenshots of my dogs profile showing he does not get along with cats. But they didn’t care that the person watching my dogs lied to make money! They closed my account and probably still has her lies up! Watch out for who watches your dogs on this app! Clearly they don’t care about safety or the fact that she lied! No matter what precautions you take for your pet their is always away for people to lie!!!!

The concept is good- that’s about it.. To be fair, this is a good concept. But there is little to no support from Rover to justify the fees they take. I work a good paying full time job and only started doing this to be helpful to my fellow pet lovers who needed care in my community. It’s been a huge headache and I am going to pull out of Rover and do my own thing. Day one of my first gig the app completely crashed and I had to reinstall it and log in while in the backyard of a new clients house with her dog just to check in. After a week of pet sitting I haven’t been paid through Rover. I was getting completely ran around and nonsensical responses through email. I called this morning and the support person I was speaking with was constantly interrupting me. She wasn’t listening to my concerns and talked down to me as though I was uneducated and outright stupid. When I asked to speak to someone else I was told there wasn’t another representative from Rover available and I would get a call back in 48 hours. I do believe this is a good concept, but lacking immensely in implementation and support personnel. It’s quite possible I provided a week of care and will never be paid for it.

Caters to owners with little protection for sitters. I love this company overall but it’s really kind of outlandish that sitters must pay for their own background check, but the owners don’t have to do so. Owners can request an overnight stay without filling out any information about their pet(s). Rover does not have a way for sitters to communicate about their experiences when sitting for someone. So if an owner is rude or lies about their pet, or if an animal is aggressive or destructive, the sitter has to figure that out on their own and deal with it, when another sitter may have already had the same experience. If owners can rate sitters (which has an impact on bookings), sitter should absolutely be able to rate owners and their pets. One of the meet and greets I did recently was alarming. The owner ended up telling me all these terrible stories about sitters in my area and why they didn’t work out. Two of the sitters they listed were sitters I’ve used for my own pets and they’ve been exceptional! That owner continues to contact me about upcoming dates when I am already sitting other pets through rover. Why does the app show them that I’m available when I’m not? I also think owners should have to disclose if they smoke, if they’re asking someone to come into their home. I’m happy giving them their 20% cut if I felt protected in any way, but I don’t.

Terrible way to make money. I strongly suggest NOT using this app for anything. They take 20% of the fees for the dog walkers/sitters and the base rate is way under valued. These people want two hour long dog walks, their dog fed at specific times with specific medications and for you to give the dog the attention they deserve for $35/day, before Rover takes 20%. The hourly rate for this ends up being like $5/hour. And I LOVE dogs and I think they deserve the very best. But the last dog I watched wouldn’t let me even pet him because he didn’t trust strangers. We did a meet and greet before, but his owner completely underestimated the amount of foundational trust this dog requires to be alone with someone. His owner ended up having to come home early bc I couldn’t get him to outside to potty without him trying to bite me. Not a good experience. People expecting you to watch their dog for $28/day is insane. For this to be worth it for me, it would have to be $100/day. That’s the price I’ll be charging on my own from now on. Rover is just another third party app taking the place where community should be stepping in. Get the kid next door or lonely senior person to help watch your animals. There are plenty of dog walkers who will do this work for you without the middleman of a third party app. Google them.

Too many dogs in one house.. Five dogs in the house is too many. Our dog was afraid of Jessie's own two big dogs, so our dog spent a lot of time in her cage. Otherwise she would growl and bark at the two large dogs. Jesse was tending three dogs in addition to her own two large dogs. We prefer our own dog to be tended by herself without other rover dogs being brought in at the same time. Next time we will request that no large dogs be in the house where are our very small dog is being tended. Our dog is a high anxiety dog with lots of fears. PS we can’t figure out why there were no openings for our dog weeks in advance. Because of that we had to schedule someone that was a half hour drive away making one hour round-trip out of our way and another hour out of our way, after we arrived home to pick up our dog. Then just a couple of days before we left there were all kinds of openings close by in our area, but we had already scheduled for six day stay to be with the sitters who are far away, so we thought we would add better stay with the schedule. We plan to stay with Rober because the because of a previous positive experience. However next time this happens, we will request a last-minute change if needed to have a sitter close by. (we do live in a very populated area.)

Poor customer service and client relations. I was a sitter for Rover with over 20 five star reviews and none of them negative. Every review reflected fantastic customer service and compassion towards what I do. The first time I needed their customer support it was a nightmare. I was left a 1 star review by someone who was disgruntled most likely because I suggested their dog could benefit from training because it was bullying one of my younger dogs. After they picked up their dog with all smiles, they then decided to leave me a nasty review making completely false claims unrelated to their stay. Rover only sent a few automated messages saying they wouldn’t remove the review, and never answered how it does not violate their terms when it clearly did. As a professional dog trainer and small business owner, I just don’t think I want to continue making money for a corporation who doesn’t value the people who are actually doing the work. I honestly don’t even think they read the context of my emails or the customer reviews. As a dog owner, I’ll never use Rover or again or recommend it to anyone. It would be best for anyone to find a professional boarding service or simply save money and hire a local boarder without giving rover a giant cut for no need. If the customer service is trash then what’s the point?

Horrible security. Rude, bad customer service. In 2016 I signed up to work for Rover and ended up getting a job a month later with hours that wouldn’t allow me to work for Rover anymore and therefore was not active on the account. I never met a dog or interacted with a dog or their owner. Now I’m 2019 I get a dog and log back on to start using the services for my pup. I have to go through a process since it had been a while that I had been on the app and had been set to away mode I had to email my password to myself to reset everything back up. I had received another email that stated my account had suspicious activity. I still could not get logged in so I called customer service. The guy on the phone kept telling me I needed to turn off away mode and I told him I could t because I couldn’t log in. I was put on hold and 10 minutes later was told I had too many negative reviews from other rovers about my behavior with their dogs. I told him I have never used this app and he refused to believe me. I told him about the suspicious activity email and that possibly somebody is using my account because I can’t get into it. He then stated he will file this with his “manager” and will call back. I never heard anything back. I guess they don’t care too much.

If you love your dogs, don’t use this.. I booked a sitter on this app and they agreed to watch my dog. I am thankful I have a living room camera because I would’ve never known the sitter consistently didn’t show up when she was supposed to. This meant that on some days, my dog went 17 hours without going to the bathroom. I called Rover and they thought it was serious enough to transfer me to their trust and safety emergency line. Btw Rover could not do anything about this situation. I asked to cancel the sitter because they never showed up, only for Rover to inform me that since I wanted to initiate the cancellation, the sitter would still receive half of the days remaining payment…even though she never showed up. Either way she would be payed for the day she didn’t work. You can book a sitter, then never show up at all, and still have to pay them. She also could’ve done anything to injure my dog or trash my home and Rover stated they could do nothing. You are paying a stranger to come in your home, and if they don’t show up Rover will take your money and pay them anyway. They have an emergency line but they can’t do anything and can’t refund you. Just pay to board you dog or cross you fingers that your sitter is good.

Will Never Use Again. I used Rover for the first time to have someone check in on my cat while I was out of town. While everything seemed to be going fine, I came home to find my balcony door WIDE OPEN. It’s a miracle that my cat didn’t run away. Not only was my cat’s safety compromised, but so was the safety of myself and my home. My sitter, Gabby, went out onto my balcony and didn’t lock the door behind her. It was extremely unprofessional and irresponsible. I immediately reached out to her and she admitted she went out on the balcony and “must not have shut the door all the way”. I then reached out to customer service. They said there was nothing they could do and I had to ask the sitter for a refund. And, of course, when I reached out to Gabby for a refund, no response. It has been almost two weeks now. I reached out to customer service again stating that there was no response and after almost a week, still no response from customer service either. I used Rover’s app to purchase a service and Rover refuses to respond or do anything to help me. While I was hoping to be a frequent customer, this terrible experience has left me never wanting to use this service again. How can you trust someone to come into your home when you know that no one has your back if something goes wrong?

Read if you plan to sit. Great app BUT could have some qualifications for the doggy’s. I’ve been a sitter on rover for over two months and have had many different dogs with different personalities. However some owners have no decency when it comes to leaving their unbehaved dog with people. I believe rover is a great app for people to find sitters and sitters to sit but there was a person who left their dog with me and the dog, chewed my pillows, is impossible to walk and sprints max speed dragged his two owners and my mother, constantly barks for long periods of time with no reason he’ll have food, water, and has been let out but will continue to bark. The bark isn’t quiet it’s a loud screeching deep bark. They left me a crate incase he misbehaved, I didn’t plan on using it for punishment for him personally I wanted him to like to sleep in his crate and be comfortable. However after he chewed the pillows and kept barking I put him in the crate. Nothing changed he still continued to bark. Myneighborhors complained. I just feel as though if you leave your dog with someone, even a professional, make sure it’s wel trained so it’s not a inconvenience for the sitter tending with other dogs.

DON’T USE ROVER!. To all the dog owners out there, DO NOT USE ROVER! I work in San Francisco and work as a GHR dog walker. For the owners that don’t know what that is, GHR stands for Guaranteed Hourly Rate, which is a program that pays $20/hour for 3 hour shifts throughout the day for eligible walkers. If you sign up for this shift, you must take all ASAP walks that come up in the app in your specific region of the city. They have a NE/NW/SE/SW region in San Francisco. This program, which started around June/July of 2017, has been a disaster for owners, because walkers like me take shifts because the money is guaranteed to us, so even if no walks come up during our 3 hour shift, we still get paid the $60 per shift. And while you may think you’ll get a regular walker for your dog on a recurring, weekly basis, no one wants to do those anymore because we can make more money doing GHR shifts, and having a recurring, weekly walk doesn’t allow you to work a shift during the time of your walk. So if I sign up to do a walk every Monday for Teddy at 12pm every Monday, I’m out $45 because I can’t do the 9:30-12:30 shift. So if you live in San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Denver, and LA where these shifts occur, that’s why no one wants to walk your dog on a regular basis. To be honest, it works very well to network and find a sitter you may like and use off the app in future sittings, but other than that it’s a no go for me

Good, but could be so much better!. I am thankful for Rover, but it could definitely be better. They make it very difficult to modify dates on the day of, so if a client needs to reschedule I have to go through a whole process that ends with me emailing customer service. It’s pretty ridiculous. They also should do a better job of explaining services to potential clients. I get so many requests for the wrong service because they don’t understand the difference between doggy daycare and boarding or house sitting. Which is understandable on the customers end, but Rover should explain the services they offer. Also, I think they could do better at making profiles more accessible. I can only see a tiny thumbnail of my clients pictures, and for safety sake (like when meeting up with a new client) I would like to be able to see their whole picture. I also think it would be better if they set up a “social” aspect to the app. Make it like a social media app where I can post pictures of activities with dogs, so clients can really get a feel for what to expect when they book. Plus current clients can see their pups featured! I think it would go over really well. Especially if they’re going to charge so many fees to both the client and the walker we should at least get our moneys worth.

Needs better availability ranges!. I love the concept of this app and it’s awesome to be able to have a small side income as I’m trying to pay off some student loans. My main issue is the fact that the ranges for my availability are way too broad. I think it would be smart to allow walkers to give their exact availability times for each day. I work different hours for each day of the week, and although it’s consistent week to week, it doesn’t align with the app’s current setup. If I’m working until noon on Monday and then until 6 Tuesday, I can’t really set up my dog walking schedule to align with that (as the ranges are 6-11, 11-3 and 3-10. If I get off work at 6 on a Tuesday I can’t say my range is 3-10 because it’s really only 6-10 and if I get off at noon on Monday I can’t say my range is 11-3 because I’m not available until after 12. See the problem?) It would be awesome for those with full time jobs looking for a side income to be able to put their exact availability instead of choosing between three very broad ranges. I’ve seen message boards everywhere asking for this so I’m hoping the developers actually take this to heart! They’d have a lot more business if we were confident in our availability and didn’t have to cancel certain services that don’t make it in the actual availability window of a sitter or walker.

I get paid to hang out with pets!. My friend told me about this app and I decided to give it a try as a side job. I was a little skeptical when I had to pay for a background check. However after being a pet sitter for over a year and starting my little enterprise, this has really turned out to be a worthwhile investment. I love how I can modify my rates, create a profile with my own pictures, and write my own bio. Plus, everyone I have sat for have been extremely friendly and grateful that their fur babies were taken care of. If you love pets and don’t mind waking up early when the dog wants a walk, this is for you! And if you are a pet owner looking for a trustworthy app, this is the app for you! Plus the app is constantly updated to be even more detailed and convenient, such as video calls in place of meet and greets during the pandemic, and modifying a booking after it’s been confirmed. My only issue was that one time a false account contacted me about sitting their puppy. The person with the same name contacted me twice with different dog pictures on both profiles. Thankfully I did not meet up with this person and reported it. But I wish Rover would require a picture of the owner, or at least a picture of their pet, because now when I receive requests with photoshopped photos, or requests without photos, I sometimes feel skeptical about sitters’ safety.

Liked them...at first. I loved the sitter we used, so much I had them watch my babies multiple times. We were out of town when my Boston was bit by another dog that was being watched. Not the sitters fault at all. My dog was bit on the eye, all three eyelids were punctured, his eye bleeding. I took him to the doggie ER. They were concerned the bite may have hit his cornea (it did). They sent me home with meds to fight off a nasty infection. This was going to be an ongoing injury that was going to take time to figure out the diagnosis (he still may need his eye removed). This was devastating news to me with him being my “first born” and all. Then Rover called and said that their insurance would cover the cost minus at $250 deductible for a 30 day window. This was great news. However somewhere the lines were crossed and I was under the impression that because it was an ongoing diagnosis that they would still cover the costs. I was wrong. Now I’m on the hook for whatever medical procedures are needed due to his injury. This is flat out wrong in my opinion. Some may not see it that way, but my dog is now blind in his eye due to retinal disconnection from the dog bite. I won’t be using Rover anymore, nor would I ever recommend them to anyone. My dogs are family. I wish I had paid better attention to the fine print.

Amazing concept, but a couple things about the app…. Rover has helped me find so many families to sit for and is a life saver for a lot of people who are looking for sitters for their own fur balls! Just a couple things I would ask for improvement… So all the sitters using the app have to get background checks before even being able to book with anyone but then owners don’t have to? Because of this, just anybody can reach out to you, so I’ve had to block several weirdos/scammers🙃 (It’s typically noticeable if you look around at their request and search for red flags—a big one being when they only use a single letter as their first name instead of an actual name and then including little to no info about their pets/request way out of range/include WEIRD photos where it should be of their pets, etc.) Another thing: it would be great if photos and videos could send faster and with better quality!! Especially videos! It takes SO LONG for them to send, and sometimes they never go through, so I almost always have to send them directly to the owner’s cell rather than through the app because it lags (even with great wifi or data service)! Other than that, the concept is great and has helped me find so much clientele! I basically use Rover on a daily basis :) Just stay safe, and never accept anything that doesn’t feel or look right to you!

Gives sitters the freedom to do their best. I've worked for a couple of dog walking companies, and Rover is my favorite. I get to set my own wage. If I'm getting burned out, it's easy to temporarily turn off my availability to new clients or alter my calendar. Rover is great when there is an emergency, very supportive and willing to pay for vet care. The fee they charge for providing customers to you and insurance during stays is a lot less than the other company, meaning I don't have to rip off my clients to make a good wage. The app is great. I've hardly ever had issues with it and it doesn't need to be updated constantly. I would like if the walk map was more accurate, but that is a minor concern. The big difference with Rover, is that I get to talk with customers instead of going through a middleman, which makes me more comfortable when meeting new customers, and creates less problems with gaining access to the dog. Rover also allows you to decide with the owner what times work best for both customer and walker. The one downside with Rover is that they don't have an option for giving tips, which can be frustrating when you go above and beyond for a client. Other than that, I do love Rover!

Great but recently has a glitch. I’ve only been using rover for about 3 weeks now as a sitter and it’s already brought in a significant amount of income for me. I’m a stay at home mom and have been searching for something I can do from home and so far rover has worked out perfectly. I take pretty much any client as long as they get along with kids and other dogs. I already have tons of booking and a few repeats clients. I’ve liked the small updates the app has had but just yesterday, all of my pending bookings are showing a “pending owners response” highlight at the top of our messages as if I sent them a booking request. Which I haven’t to any of them. I’m not sure if it’s just a glitch on my end but if it has actually send requests it may cause me to look bad and potentially lose clients and money. I almost always meet the family and dog before sending a request or accepting one so this is an issue for me. I’ve tried logging out, deleting the app and everything else I can think of but the “glitch” won’t go away. I’m hoping this issue is resolved quickly.

Great for sitters. I am a full time mom and have been sitting through Rover for almost 2 years now. I absolutely love the pets and people I’ve met. I love how the app is now that it’s updated. This app is great because of the drop-in options. Pets can get quality time with a sitter while owners are out of town. I’ve only ever had one request to walk their dog. Overall I love everything but I really debated between 3 & 4 stars. Rover really needs another option to receive payments. I’ve been using PayPal because I don’t want to wait for a check during slow times and it’s only $20. I really don’t trust PayPal though. I should be able to securely connect my bank account directly to Rover. My only other concern is fake profiles. I’ve gotten a couple that requested an outrageous amount of drop-ins with no photos and no info whatsoever of the animals. And never heard back from them. So every time I get a new request I get suspicious, because so far all my recent ones have no photos or info. Rover needs to require this info before allowing owners to book. If it weren’t for all of my regular clients I would quit using Rover altogether for both of these issues.

Need a better way to filter. Here are my thoughts. We use Rover or try to use rover while we travel with our dog. 50% of the time we end up using a professional boarding location as opposed to a rover person. Here’s why. Many if not most of the rover hosts are doing this to earn extra money. Which sounds great and all but there are draw backs. Typically we will have to contact 6 to 10 hosts in order to find one that is available. Why is it that people have themselves lists on the app if they are not available. Even ubuer has the option to turn availability on and off. There is nothing more frustrating then reading through the profile finding the perfect fit for our dog then reaching out only to have them say ....”Sorry I’m not available”. This happens over and over and over. Again this just happened so we are going with a local professional boarding business. Another filter option Rover needs to add is filter by hosts that accept un-neutered males. We have a large bread mastiff. It is recommended to wait until a minimum of 18 months to neuter in order to limit joint and growth problems. So again when you read through all the profiles and find the perfect host only to have the app tell you they don’t accept unfixed males when you try to contact them. Why not filter those profiles out before out base on our dog’s profile? Or make it a filter option. Anyway rover is a neat concept but only 50/50 in usefulness.

Waste of money. I am currently waiting to start my full time job in August and I was looking for a part time job to make some income until then. I heard of this app from a friend and gave it a shot. Upon filling out all my information I realized that I had to pay $25 for a background check. I thought this over and I determined that the background check was important and reassuring to future clients. I paid the $25 even though it was a lot to me, considering I don’t have a job right now. I thought that I would earn the money back with time, but so far it’s been over a month and I don’t have a single message from a potential client. I am very disappointed because I was so incredibly excited to have something fun to do for a month and I was going to have the opportunity to meet cute animals. I am also disappointed because I did everything right, I posted good photos of me with animals, I had friends and past clients post amazing and heart warming testimonials about me, and I even chose to keep my rates distinctively lower than other rates I saw offered. I will keep the app on my phone, because it is well designed and the goal of the app is good, but I just can’t recommend this app to everyone. It was a waste of money (that I didn’t have) and there’s no way I’m ever going to get my money back, unless by miracle a potential client messages me. Thanks for reading :(

Been on Rover as a sitter since 2018. Rover seems to be making it more and more difficult to adjust scheduling. I have 2 weekly recurring clients. One is set on recurring so I don’t usually have to adjust anything thankfully. My other client puts their requests in weekly because the days they are home changes week to week. They have a young child that gets sick about once a month and will often want to drop or swap days. I used to be able to adjust the schedule between just the 2 of us but now I have to wait for Rover to approve. This is so frustrating! Now I’m waiting 2-4 hours on Rover to approve the change. All while the owner is waiting to hear back and the visit is still sitting on my schedule completely unchanged and shows no form of processing or waiting. The owners often don’t know or have time to make the adjustment themselves. Why does Rover feel the need to get in the middle of scheduling? The old way the owner had to opportunity to cancel any changes if they didn’t agree. The whole process used to take less than 15 minutes and was kept between sitter and owner like it should be! Am I supposed to blindly guid the owner into changing it themselves? Are you making them wait 2-4 hours?! This is ridiculous!

Sitter Upgrades. From the prospective of a sitter on Rover there are a few things that could be tweaked on the app to make it a lot more functional. Clients should be able to send messages that aren’t attached to a visit. We have repeat clients that will have questions about availability on certain dates for the future that maybe they aren’t ready to book yet. To be able to ask us this or any question when they aren’t ready to book they have to find an old booking and ask a question on that previous thread. As a sitter you then have to find that message in your past or archived visits. Also, there should be an inbox for any new messages. This should be whether it is on a past, archived, upcoming, or pending booking the new message(s) should all come to one place rather than having to find the booking request in the correct category. As a sitter you should be able to click on your calendar on any given day and see all the bookings you have for that day. Not just your availability. As is, you only see all bookings for the current date. You can’t look at the calendar and click on a previous or future date and see what bookings you had/have.

Not bad. I am both a rover sitter and a rover customer. We have found a reliable and trustworthy sitter that we use repeatedly for our pets and the app works great. From a sitter perspective, there are a couple of tweaks I would like to see. I wish there was a way to combine housesitting and drop-ins in to one package deal. For pets that require extra attention such as multiple drop-ins during the day, it isn't a very efficient system. I have one client whose dog had bladder surgery and needs to be let out 4-5 times a day. While I am staying the night at the home and providing a morning and evening service, the extra day time drop-ins are awkward to set up for the owner. I feel there should be a booking for overnights with morning and evening service with an option to add full daytime service as well. I did encounter one very uncomfortable situation as a sitter and as soon as I reported it to rover, their team was on top of it and provided excellent customer service. I really felt like they supported me and had my back. It was nice to know that the 20% they take from charges is being used to pay for excellent staff!

Good service, but it could be more user friendly. I have been a dog walker and pet sitter on Rover for a couple of months now. I’ve gotten connected with many people in my neighborhood and make good money doing it. My only issue with the app is that it’s not the most user friendly for those trying to book services. For example, I had a woman asking me to check in on her pets over 4th of July weekend. She has 3 dogs and a cat and wanted me to check on them once on the 3rd, three times on the 4th, and once on the 5th. The first issue with that is that is that she would have had to create at least 2 separate bookings because the app doesn’t allow users to choose a different amount of visits for different days. My second issue was that the app should have charged her my holiday rate (x3 days), the additional dog rate (x2, because she had two additional dogs) (x3 days), and then one additional cat rate (which is $0 in my case, cats are easy). Instead the app tried to charge her for 9 total visits and the holiday rate for each of her pets which brought her total to over $700 which is wayyyyyy over what her actual total should have been. Luckily we caught this before going through with our booking. I’ve had several other instances similar to this, but this was the most extreme. The app needs to update its UI so this issue doesn’t occur.

Love it but get the uninsured off here!. I do really well on Rover I don’t mind the fees because trust me you guys complain about them but guess what anybody that I have worked with off of Rover expect to pay way less and you get more on Rover. It’s always worth it to stay on the app. Jobs I’ve had in the real world that I’ve never made as much as Rover. My issue is that if everybody’s required to be legal why do I have to be around and next to you and the profiles a bunch of illegal no insurance profiles near mine when I should be highlighted. They only highlight me for the housesitting when I’ve asked to do drop in visits as well. I want to do walks and drop in visits but since they highlighted me for housesitting that’s pretty much what I have to do. I like the app and I like the clients. I just don’t like the other Rover sitters who don’t answer when I need a sitter and don’t have insurance so I’m not gonna let them in my house. Please make sure that the Rover sitters have insurance or at least highlight the ones that do and put a star next to their name like you do with the background check that we paid more for the ones that paid for it than the ones who got a free background check put people based on insurance no insurance and separate them thank you.

Missing Queens in Fairbanks Alaska. One day into My daughters vacation and the Rover sitter has lost one of her two dogs. My daughter is beside herself...My daughter and her husband just left Alaska yesterday for a much needed military leave as her husband is deploying in September. Less than 24 hours later she got the dreaded call that her Rover dog sitter has lost one of her two dogs. It has now been an additional day and she still has not found sweet Queens and they have done very little to find her, as the rover dog watcher is more concerned with her other jobs. My daughter is now trying to find a flight back to Alaska in hopes she can find Queens before something happens to her. She was last sighted on Cushman near the freeway in Fairbanks Alaska, but the Rover Dog Sitter was too busy showing a house and didn’t respond promptly to the call. A trip where all our families were so excited to see our kids before deployment, has turned into a nightmare for all. I believe there are some great rover sitters, but make sure you fully vet them to insure if a disaster happens with your baby they will respond 😢 It feels soooo helpless to be in Utah knowing your baby is lost in Fairbanks Alaska and that there have been sighting of her, but no one is responding timely😢😢😢 When I called the emergency number yesterday they told me they would send a professional team today to assist the rover sitter in the search. That has not happened.💔

Waste of Time & Money. If you’re looking to throw away thousands of dollars while you take a small trip here and there, this may work for you. I’m sitting here baffled by the prices. Even at $50 a night (which I thought was reasonable) you get gouged for additional dogs. That $50 becomes $50 per night plus $20-50 per night for additional dogs plus there are fees for hair, age, weight, playing, walking, etc.. Even for people who don’t even allow dogs in their home but only to stay on their farm. Why would I pay someone over a grand for a weekend trip? That’s absolutely absurd and not even competitive! There are local kennels that won’t charge that much with actual professionals and medical teams on staff. I downloaded this app hoping I could find someone who would make my babies feel at home while I was away and instead I find a bunch of people who don’t have jobs who want to charge money as if they are dog whispering gurus. It’s insane. Rover should keep these people in check. If they are actual certified professionals who open up their homes and charge a bit more, ok understandable. BUT don’t act as if a stay at home mom with 5 kids is someone I should throw a grand to because I need to leave for a weekend. Thankfully I have some good connections and will be flying out an actual professional and paying less than $400 to cover airfare, food and payment. Get your stuff together Rover and start getting people.

Rover needs to step it up for 20%. For 20% of our earnings Rover needs to step it up. First, I would say Rover needs to fix the app, it sends messages about new features and has a clicker ”try now” that doesn't work. The other complaint is the daycare or sitting feature, the client's and I are texting and not even using the app, but you're supposed to do everything through the app, like the start of the visit, walks, pees and poops. I'm walking three dogs and im supposed to check in on an app, take picture enter how many times the went. It's a little cumbersome because I am sending pics throughout the day through rovers text in my messages. The app is not easy to use! I care for many dogs for friends and through rover, I don't need to keep track of trying to use a difficult application that should be easy for the price. Second is Rover's support sucked! Period, after it took me hours to speak with someone, not an emergency, they were no help and had a typical corporate response. I will say I have met some fun and great dogs. I'm just not sure why Rover feels they need 20% seems a bit much for the service they provide.

Great App and really provides an opportunity to have money. This app is amazing! I would not have clients or even be able to have a business if it was not for a roller. This app is amazing and I definitely recommend it to everyone. I am able to have a repeat clients and make a good amount of money just using this app. This app has provided me with supplemental income and also long-standing clients that want to repeatedly use my services no matter what. This app works really well and it really makes it great to stay in communication with clients. The only thing I wish the app did have is that when you go to the calendar to do your availability I do wish that the app would also show your upcoming bookings like if you have three clients booked for a few days and then you got somebody coming a new it should show all of your bookings and showing what you have in the calendar so when you look at the calendar you see three bookings for Monday and then on Wednesday gonna get just dog for example and then two we’re leaving on Friday like it should show the bookings like that that would really take the app up a notch.

Great Concept, App Needs Improvement. The concept behind this app is great and is SUPER useful. However, the app leaves much to be desired in terms of user interface. The menu to switch between the different inboxes is incredibly confusing. I understand the desire to see past or archived conversations but grouping it with the upcoming/pending boxes isn’t useful. Then, when messaging with sitters, there is limited functionality as only the sitter can actually modify the requests. What would be useful is allowing the clients to submit modification requests to the sitter directly if needed rather than trying to communicate it via messages. I’ve experienced several issues in communication that could’ve been avoided if this was possible. Furthermore, when a sitter makes a modification, you can view details, accept, or decline. When you confirm, it automatically changes your card without requesting confirmation. Again, something that can be a nuisance when a sitter is requesting several modifications (due to changes on both ends) and you are being charged multiple times for these transactions. All in all, I like the platform, I like the site, I probably will not be using the app until modifications are made.

distancing myself from this app. as someone who works for Rover, during a sit where a dog turned out to be aggressive, they had very little support for me as a sitter. I essentially had to stay through the sit with an aggressive animal. at the end of the stay I was even chastised for something the owners lied about, that I cleared up with Rover multiple times. I was also sent an article on “dealing with separation anxiety in dogs” which honestly I’d rather they have spat in my face, considering they were just puppeting the owners’ false narrative back to me, that their dog was somehow a victim and that the snarling/barking/charging/growling /nipping was justified. I know how to deal with anxious dogs, and this dog was aggressive, so nothing in the article was helpful or anything I hadn’t already been trying. I got a grand total of $50 to compensate for the genuine traumatic effect that sit has had on me. I haven’t been doing as many sits lately and get anxiety leading up to them now. I’m literally up at 4 am right now thinking back to the sit. I wanted to leave and make the owners return but was afraid of being penalized for the owners’ lies and carelessness. from what I’ve read from other sitters, you’ll be penalized for leaving a dangerous sit, or even acting in self defense if an animal attacks you. I feel unsafe now knowing that if anything happens, Rover will not have my back, and may even ban my account for the actions of the owners or animal.

Makes my job harder than it needs to be. As a sitter, the app is not user friendly. I am constantly having to restart the app or my entire phone just to get my home tab to properly display the list of pets I’m watching that day. Otherwise it’ll just show the list from the previous day. If I’m not connected to WiFi, then it’ll usually take all day to send a rover card, even if I go back onto WiFi. The app takes a really long time to load sometimes, even on WiFi. And sometimes when I end a drop in, a duplicate visit will start, and I can’t stop it obviously without adding a picture, so the owner is essentially getting two rover cards for the same visit. I am at least receiving my payments in a timely manner, although I do know that some sitters have issues with getting paid. Rover is constantly adding new features to their site/app, which I like, but it seems to just add more bugs to the speedy never ending list of bugs this app causes. I feel like we should have a much more streamlined app if they’re going to take 20% of our earnings.

I love rover but. I love rover. I’m a pet owner and a sitter too. I have been doing rover for a while now and is great and very convenient. My main complaint about the app is that the pet owners are choosing a wide range for pick ups/drop offs (For example: drop off from 8:00am to 3:00pm & pick up from 4:00pm to 10:00pm).this is more than 6 hours each day that I have to take care for someone’s pet without being pay. This isn’t right for sitters. Taking care of someone’s pet isn’t an easy task specially when the pets have behavior issues. Sitters charge in rover for 24 hours and if there’s extra hours the sitters should be pay according to that but unfortunately there’s some people that figure how to confuse the app choosing a wide range for drop off/pick up to avoid paying what they are supposed to. I have complained many times about this on email to a rover support because I feel that rover should limit the pick up/drop off range time to only one to two hours instead letting the pet owners pick an entire day. Please rover fix this big problem so sitters like me get compensated according to the time we care for someone’s pet.

Payment options for sitters. I have recently started working for Rover and honestly love it. The app is very well built and exceptionally easy to use and manage. However I can only payout through PayPal and that is more frustrating than you can imagine. First I didn’t even have one because I’ve had difficulties in the past with PayPal. So I couldn’t even use Rover until I fixed that. And now every single time I try to payout to PayPal from the rover app it puts it on hold for 72 hours. Dude literally every single time. I’ve had to call them to tell them to quit it. Now I 100% understand that this is in no way Rover’s fault. But I was wondering if there was a way you guys could help me payout through another method? It would help so much if I could go directly to my debit card or bank If you have this option already. I don’t see it though. I absolutely highly recommend it because only having the one option I can only imagine is hindering the amount of business you guys could be having. Thank you so much for you’re time.

No protection for the dog sitters. I like overall design and functionality of the app. But one thing I do like to point out: Rover doesn’t seem to care about dog sitters’ safety or interests. For example, they only do background checks for dog sitters but there is no check on dog owners. Although most dog owners are very nice and polite, sometimes there’re rude or skeptical people. Another thing is that Rover only allows dog owners to review dog sitters but not the other way around. Despite most dogs I have sat are well trained, some dogs are not. Meet and greet normally is not enough to tell if the owner is telling the truth. If the dog peed and pooped all over your house or did something aggressive or dangerous, except for leaving a note for yourself and Rover, there’s no way you can share it with other fellow dog sitters. So dog owners don’t have any consequences if they lie or their dogs create damages. Other dog sitters just have to go through it again. Rover should allow dog sitters to see reviews from other dog sitters so that dog owners will have consequences if they lie. If a dog is badly trained, dog sitters can make informed decisions to either reject it or charge extra. I complained about these issues but every time Rover just said they will record the suggestions and nothing happens afterwards. I guess they just don’t want to hurt the business

Great Idea and Service. Love that I found this!! I have a senior handicapped dog that I can no longer leave home by herself. Rover has been amazing to find high quality/trustworthy people to care for her and give me peace of mind that she’s in good hands. My only issues/recommendations are with the app itself: 1. There’s no way to cancel a request when it’s pending (please change this!!) 2. More options for care. For example, if my husband and I want to go out to dinner and I want to drop my dog off at someone’s home, it’s only a brief (maybe 1-2 hr?) visit but it’s a specific time (e.g. 6 or 7 pm). Right now I have to select the option to drop-off, then select the dinner times and have found it very difficult to find someone for something like this (and also not pay for a full day of care). Would be great if there were already sitters available and able to do brief care during early evening/dinner hours specifically. The current option is more for day-care (and the boarding option isn’t what I’m looking for as it’s only a brief drop off). Another is weddings and dog-sitting at a hotel for a wedding or special event. Spoke with a few sitters that said they had to get creative with this (and also ensure they were compensated properly).

Not going to waste my time. I just download this app. Found a local sitter and sent message. Rover suggested I message more sitters to find the “perfect match” so I regretfully messaged 3 total potentials all that showed available for my dates selected. I received a reply from one of them saying they were not available but rover doesn’t tell me which one it is which is already proving to be a pain. after scrolling through the many negative app reviews I now regret providing my card info prior to booking anything. Y’all sound too messy and I don’t want to come back with a horror story. Great concept but the communications process needs improvement but that’s as far as I’m willing to risk. I will not be booking with rover after reading the reviews and receiving confusing response from one of the 3 that I messaged. Would be nice to know which one turned down the job even though it indicated they were available. I live in a very small town with few options anyway. If I’m going to pay over $100 for 3 drop in visits from a stranger then I might as well spend a little more and just pay a facility to actually board my dog. I understand they set their own prices and I found the cheapest one in my area. Thanks but no thank you.

Exceptionally mediocre. This app is so lacking in information that if you use their services very often, you absolutely can’t get by with just the app. You have to go on the website. Even on the website the information you can get is next to useless. Example #1: you can’t view your upcoming services on the app. You must log into the website to double check that your future services are booked. #2: you have to contact multiple walkers to get service instead of being able to post what you want. Imagine need a sitter for a week & having to contact literally a dozen walkers to find someone instead of being able to post your job & get responses. That’s how this mediocre app works. Also: you can’t view your dog walks in real time. This is terrible because if you end up with a dud dog walker, it’s very hard to discover this. By sheer accident I once discovered that my walker was just taking my dog down the street to the park & sitting on a bench for an hour while my bored dog got zero exercise. The app sure didn’t help me discover that. The report card almost never accurately shows the route of your dog’s walk. Basically, Rover needs to go check out the Wag app & do a serious overhaul. If Wag had walkers in my new neighborhood I’d be using that. If you have the option to use Wag! it’s a hundred times better.

4/5. Not sure why the reviews are so poor but I’ve had a great experience being a dog sitter on Rover. My only complain is that 20% fee they take is pretty high and that app has major glitches when I try to send videos to my customers. Overall is you’re willing to work and have enough space to host multiple clients like me you’ll be making a really good amount of money. I made sure to put my cancellation cut off day for 2 days prior. I’ve had too many people be disrespectful towards my time and try to cancel last minute because they found someone cheaper or their friend told them last minute they can watch their pets. People have to understand that i reserved this time for their pet and them canceling last minute messes my schedule up when i could have booked with someone who would have followed through. So i appreciate rover still paying us sitters a little even if we have a cancellation . I do this part time and I’ve watched my monthly earnings go from $900 a month and I’m about to have my biggest month yet that will be $4000. Excited to see what the holiday season pay will look like.

Beware. A Rover sitter lost my dog a month ago and since then I discovered that she was possibly keeping dogs in a locked shed in her backyard in the middle of the extreme heat of summer. The sitter then lied to me about it. After researching more, Rover sitters may submit to an optional background check which will not reveal important information about the integrity, quality, or intentions of the person you hire. Additionally, people that have bad experiences with Rover, such as the death of a pet, are refunded and then are not able to leave a review. Please take the “5-star” thing with a HUGE grain of salt. If you want to see examples, google “Rover dog deaths” for a start. In my opinion, you are better off placing an ad in a newspaper or local neighborhood community where you can find potential sitters’ full name (you can only see last name initial or an alias in Rover) and resume and conduct your own background check. Rover also has had people sign non-disclosure agreements to help stop bad press. They have also not released numbers on how many pets die or go missing under their care. I wish I had known what I know now before hiring a Rover sitter. I will always regret leaving my dog Tony with a Rover sitter. He is still missing after 4 weeks.

Good app but the company needs work. I love the concept of the app! It’s a great way to connect owners to qualified sitters in the area. However I believe River needs to do more to ensure the safety of the sitters. They have a rover guarantee that will cover vet care and expenses if a dog is injured during a stay but offer no such protections for sitters. I understand that watching dogs is a risk but the fact that owners and dogs aren’t subject to background checks or vaccination requirements is a bit annoying. I got bit in the face while playing with a dog and ended up having to get stitches and have permanent scaring. Rover covered absolutely nothing and the only way to get the owner to pay was to take them to civil court and sue, which I decided against out of fear of lowering my Rover reputation due to a bad review from them in retribution. After the fact I found out that this wasn’t the first time the dog had expressed aggressive behavior during play and had bit his owner a few time prior to this incident. This was not relayed to me during the meet and greet when I asked if the dog had any aggressive tendencies or toy possessiveness. I followed all steps of the Rover policy prior to and during the booking and feel that I should have had some protections against this incident. It’s crazy that the dogs expenses can be covered but not the sitters.

Game Changer. My husband and I have 4 indoor cats of varying age and have been using Rover when we travel for twice daily 30 minute check-ins for over 2 years now. We absolutely love it! Prior to Rover, when we would travel (which is quite often) we would be driving our cats to my parents house nearly an hour away where they would stay while we were away, or scrambling to find a petsitter. They hate being in the car and would sometimes get carsick on the trip, and we had a couple of bad experiences with petsitters coming to our house. It was a huge source of stress for all of us. Since using Rover, we feel completely at ease knowing that our Petsitter is reliable, responsible, trustworthy and passionate about kitties! We joke that our youngest cat has a crush on her because he is such a ham in all the photos we receive when we are away. I tell everyone about River and how much it has changed things for us. If you are considering it, go for it! You will be so happy you did.

Great resource. I am a hairdresser, so I don’t get out of work until 7pm which is usually the cutoff pickup times for most doggy daycares. I used this service and even made friends with some of my sitters! This app is slightly buggy (for some reason my friend who is on the sitting end of this and right near me doesn’t show up on the map for me, also, it doesn’t let you have the sitters listed by distance). But it’s such a good app. It’s great to have people who love dogs watch your pup, and have flexibility. Oh but one thing- it would be nice to be able to block sitters (probably customers as well) who don’t work out. I had someone not good and I can’t make a notation and she pops up on my rebook page, and in my search. Also- it would be nice if there were some way to work with the fact that I’m using the filter that I have a puppy, but get filtered out because he isn’t fixed. Many people say they take puppies, and I assume they would be fine since he’s too young to fix until he’s 6 months old! Normally I’d agree with that rule- but adult dogs and infant puppies not fixed are entirely different things!

Pretty good. Would like small improvements. I have been using rover for over a year now. I’ve used about 10-15 different dog sitters and I’ve had a 95% success rate. I have had mostly awesome experiences and 2 bad ones (sitter wasn’t home when I dropped off or picked up and didn’t answer calls) :( but if that’s the worse thing, not too bad. My one suggestion to this app would be to develop a block function. A way for me to block certain sitters from coming up in my future searches. Sometimes a sitter tells you they won’t watch your dog, or if you have a bad experience (like them no showing up) ... it would be nice if they didn’t keep showing up in your searches. If they added this feature the app would be nearly perfect in my opinion. It is a bit annoying for me to try and remember which sitters had already told me no in the past or had some other reason for not being able to watch my dog. Then I end up having a weird conversation with them all over again. That being said - I can’t speak for all areas and sitters (because I’ve heard horror stories) ... but I’ve tried many sitters in So. Cal. (SGV) and I keep coming back for more because the good far outweighs the couple unreliable people out there.

Needs improvement. As a new sitter I feel we need more options to customize the pets we sit. 1) We should be able to enter the dogs weight instead of letting us choose up to 15lbs for small dogs, then the next option is up to 40lbs. I’m able to sit for dogs up to 25-30lbs but I don’t have that option…frustrating. I don’t want to miss out on dogs that are 20 lbs but I don’t want a 40lb dog. 2) I should be able to customize the dog size for dog daycare to dog boarding. If I have an older but small dog I’m sitting, I don’t want a 40lb dog in daycare. I wish we could adjust based on the day based off the dogs we are currently caring for. The calendar could also be updated, would be great if we could link Rover to our personal calendars. I also would love if it would show a full calendar with all the dogs we’re sitting and M&G’s. That way it would make it a lot easier to see who we are sitting on which day and would make it easier to see compatibility issues before accepting a new booking. Rover should also send owners notices to update their dog profiles. So many times it says the dog is 15 lbs but then the dog comes over for a M&G and it’s 50+ lbs because when the owner created the profile their dog was a puppy.

Great service, terrible app. I’m both a dog sitter and owner and this is such a great service BUT the app is terrible. 1) When I make changes to my sitter profile and click Done, the changes are not saved. 2) I just found out that when you select “Depends” for “Friendly with Dogs?“, it doesn’t show up on your dog profile at all for pet sitters! So frustrating as this is such important information! 3) There is no way to update your profile name and there is no way to set more than 1 dog owner. So only 1 dog owner’s name is shown. When the other owner is talking to pet sitters, they have no idea who is talking to them and you have go keep signing your name. Moreover, when I created my pet sitter profile (my husband created our dog owner profile) the app took my husband’s name automatically for the pet sitter profile and didn’t let me enter my own! 4) The icon on the top left that you click to switch between “Past/Archived” and “Pending/Upcoming” doesn’t make any sense! I have never seen that in any other app. I’m an experienced app user and I worked for an app for 5 years and it took me a while to figure out how to find messages with our past dog sitter. Even after I learned that you have to click on that icon to switch to “Past/Archived” messages I still forget how to do it because it is just not intuitive. You should just have one inbox and let people Archive what they want.

Great App but, Rover takes too much money!. Love the app and the chance to spend time with dogs and earn money. However, for all the hard work we put in rover takes too much from us so it’s not worth the effort we put in.

Love the idea. I love the idea of the app. However there’s one thing that really needs to be fixed. The app says it’s for kids 4+ but in the terms and consortium it says that you have to be 18+. I’m younger than eighteen and was very happy to see that it was 4+. It’s very frustrating that I can’t do dog walking because the app has a mistake in it. I haven’t been able to sign in because of this. 😂

20% in fees. Good to find clients but fees are way too high

Pawesome App. User-friendly, logical app that makes it easy to communicate with clients. It would be great if sitters were enabled to share videos with clients. Overall, a great app.

APP NEEDS AN OVERHAUL. I love Rover and so does my dog, but the app interface is absolutely terrible. As someone who works in tech and UX UI I am shocked at how complicated and convoluted this is to use. It makes me want to switch to a different service it’s to bad. I’m sure in the long run the company could save money and get more users, on both sides, if the app was completely redesigned and people needed less customer support. I spent so much time trying to find a walker because I had to reach out to so many people for scheduling, why can’t I just select a list of available folks from the schedule I’d like for my dog? It’s terrible. Please redo.

Great concept, awful app. The calendar function is hard to use. I wish I could give hourly availability and customize my availability to each day. Not being able to do this means I am getting very few clients which sucks. Also a 20% cut is quite steep… Great service idea though.

Unsafe and terrible support. We had a horrible experience where a sitter harassed us and cancelled the visit while we were away, leaving our dog unattended for hours. Rovers support response to the situation was embarrassing and concerning - they’ve done nothing. This was a very serious situation and they have yet to even issue or acknowledge a refund. Do NOT trust your home or your dog with this community.

Good service, annoying app. The service and ease of finding someone to care for my pets is great. The app is a bit frustrating, I’d like to be able to put a time range in for bookings and no matter how many times I change the settings I still get a text, email and app notification for every message.

Rover Whistler. Fantastic dog walkers in whistler. Highly recommend 🐶

Exceptional App. Any issues are quickly resolved. Easy to use. Love love love it!!!

Finally found dog sitters using Rover. I am extremely happy to be able to find reliable, caring and trustworthy dog sitters to take care of our furry son using this app. Thank you Rover

Erin is wonderful!. Our kitty warmed to her.

Super efficace. J’adore Rover. Très facile à utiliser, on est en confiance.

Look for local sitters. Rover takes a stupid amount of money from sitters. Like 25%. If you want to actually support your sitter book with them directly. Rover says it's for insurance but their service sucks. Never again

Excellent app. This app is very intuitive to use and is set up very well to ensure the safety of pets!

Poor service. App doesn’t permit changes to the user Overview once submitted and approved. Support doesn’t respond to this inquiry.

Annoying e-mails. I hate when every single message I got from our sitter it come alongside an e-mail, flooding my mail box.

Dreams come true. I love rover because I am able to see the best clients and run my dream business with loving people and loving the company of interacting with dogs! Best job ever (:

The App needs a lot of improvements. A very good platform for both dog owners and sitters. Very user friendly app but is very glitchy. The doesn’t have anything to avoid scammers. Anyone can just create an account and can try to scam a sitter. The company is not taking proper measures to control that. A sitter has to go through background check etc but at the same time a pet owner is not asking to put their dog’s details or photos or any other information as it is not mandatory for them to put any info. I think the company should mane it mandatory for the owners to put their pet info, description and photos or should have any kind of background checks to avoid scammers from scamming sitter who are just doing a very wonderful job and maybe making some extra money. For some it could be their sole income. And would help sitters to not waste their time and energy on figuring out if its a scam request or an actual request. Calling on rover number is not a solution. The scammers are human ofcourse and can call on rover but rover has no info on their personal details or addresses or photos or anything.

Look elsewhere for knowledgeable sitters. Anyone looking for extra cash can be a Rover sitter. They charge the sitter and the client, and they are so over saturated, they have no problem kicking sitters to the curb. I’m a 20 year certified vet assistant, still employed in the vet industry, but terminated by Rover. I probably know more about pets then the people who built the company. Their insurance protects no one, and certainly not your pet.

Fantastic care. Marie looked after our Keeshond for 4 days; she took her and her other dogs for walks, she sent pics and videos and messages to keep us updated. We were able to relax and enjoy our trip feeling comfortable that she was in good hands. We’ll remember her for future vacations Thankyou so much!

Can’t get walks. Getting your first walk takes a very long time. I have been on the app for weeks and have gotten friends and family to write a review and no takers

The BEST Side Hussle. Okay listen! If you are looking for a fun, easy, you make your schedule side hustle. This is the app for you!!! I’ve been a sitter for about 8 months or so and you get paid to hang out with dogs! If you have a dog who isn’t the right fit - you don’t have to take them back again! You have a ton of options for t the dogs you take care of, that can fit your space and lifestyle! Seriously. Get the app!

Love the service, not so much the app!. I love Rover! It's an amazing service for dog owners and dog sitters. But the app needs some improvement. The calendar is pretty much useless as it doesn't show your bookings.

I love it. I miss my furry friends

Good and Bad. PROS: - good way to make quick and easy money - doing everything in the app is fairly easy - payouts are automatic CONS: - the calendar function is useless - Rover takes 20% in fees which is way too much for what it provides in return (in my opinion). 10% would be more reasonable - the mandatory GPS function kills my phone’s battery

100% satisfaite!.

First time using Rover. We had a great first experience! We would totally recommend Amelia. She was flexible and sent lots of pictures. We felt our dog was well taken care of. We will use again!

Great Platform. I love working for Rover! I get a fair amount of requests and am kept fairly busy, and they just deposit the money directly into my bank account. They have a 24/7 support line, too, for any issues you might be having with a booking, or should you have an emergency with the pet you are watching. As a pet parent, I have had less luck in finding a reliable sitter; there are a lot of people on there who either don’t answer at all, or who book with you and then drop out at the last moment, which is extremely frustrating. I wish people would treat it like a real job, because people are depending on them. But that’s not the apps fault; there will be irresponsible people to ruin every good thing. Anyway, hope that helps!

Great but... it’s great.. i just wish they didn’t take such a big percentage of the pay.

BEST animal sitting app. I have tried a few animal sitting apps, but Rover in NEXT LEVEL! The fast service you get when you need to call customer support is very reassuring! The layout and all the options is TOP on their app and website! They thought everything out! NO complaints! HUGE RECOMMENDATION/ A MUST USE for animal sitting!

Saskatoon with Kari T. Had wonderful boarding for my Great Pyrenees with Kari in Saskatoon All details worked out easily and my dog came back happy Will certainly book there again Ron Horst

it’s been 4 months and i’m still under review??. ive filled everything out correctly. its been saying “contact if not approved in 2 weeks” it’s been 4 months and i’ve contacted multiple times. someone help pls

Calendar. I really wish there was hourly availability for the calendar. For example: If i work during the day, I can still board a dog for the night but I am unavailable in the day until a certain hour.

Cat sitting. Good stuff

Good app but charges are too high. I really enjoy this app and love getting bookings through it. It ensures you are safe and makes it easy to contact owners. The only issue I have is that it does not cap the fees for sitters. Owners get capped at $55 I believe however they take 20% no matter what for sitters.

Great way to connect for pet care!. We found a great caregiver for our Kitty on Rover. The pictures and videos of the daily visits help us feel more connected when away from home! 🐈‍⬛

Love This Service!. I’m not usually inclined to rate apps, but this one really made my life easier. Lots of sitters available in my area at affordable rates.

Changed my life. I would absolutely recommend Rover. Rover got me into the dog walking and pet care industry. This is total freedom and I’m very grateful for Rover getting me started.

Hired a theif. Crazy story! Customer of mine had this company watch their diabetic cat while they went on holidays. This company uses contractors to perform the service. The contacter not only did not feed, water or look after the diabetic needs etc. But also proceceed to loot the home including their new truck, rare sports card collection (including Wayne Gretzky rookie card, Shaq Rookie, Dan Marino rookie and so many other, family jewelry, and other valuable items. They had some family memebers check on the home after their security system alerted them to some inconsistencies in thier visits and they had some relatives check in on the home. They found that they had been looted and reported it. Fortunately the cat was ok (although a bit worse for wear). The theives thennused the vehicle to rob more people and are still at large. (In the Edmonton area) When they spoke with Rover to ascertain the person’s identityto give to the authorities the company refused and referred them to their legal counsel. They still had 5 days before they could make it home to get back to their cat and see the extent of the theft all while worrying that they may come back as well. I am sure that using a service like this is still an ok thing to do but being aware that something like this can happen is a good idea. Having some contingencies in place and vetting the person coming into your home and caring for your animals and maybe having someone drop by or using cameras etc.

great app. i love what i can do with rover but the app just has a few bugs

Facile, rapide et sans tracas. Une application toute simple pour faire garder nos trésors en toute sécurité.

What a wonderful service!. We are so lucky to have this service in our community. The site offers reassurance to the pet owner that his/her loved one is in good hands by displaying reviews, booking histories, etc. I had a wonderful experience for our first booking and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the service to family and friends.

Sign in. Just downloaded the App but it's trying to force me to sign in with FB instead...not giving me a reason as to why it won't accept my info to sign up through email. May just delete this!

Great service, get rid of the tip option!. Love using rover…. Feel a bit uncomfortable with the way the new “tip” option was recently added. Completely understand some people tip, the way it’s presented though makes you click “0.00” tip if you choose not to tip.

A great way to find part-time pet. I began doing this when my daughter learned of Rover and wanted a dog but could not have one during school. I call it Airbnb for dogs. We never liked taking our own dog to a kennel because she’d bark so much she had no voice when we picked her up and was stressed. It is a holiday for both dogs and people in my dog view of things.

Misleading. The age requirements say 4+ but when I put my age in (12) it says I have to be over 18 I’m just trying to make some extra cash thanks for getting my hopes up.

Like it, but needs something else. It needs dark mode

Dog sitters. I’ve had the best experience using the Rover app and finding high quality care for my Yorkie Piper!!!

Great app, bad pricing structure. Great app. Gives you the ability to find a home for your ball of fur. Only issue is with pricing, was looking to book a one-month boarding for my cat which includes the holiday period, and the app applies holiday rates to the whole period instead of breaking it down.

Use to be better. Honestly, the app used to be really helpful and the whole process of getting paid was very simple. They’ve changed their procedures, however, and now it can take 2 to 5 days after you finish your sitting to get paid. They also take 20% of your payment out as their cut which in my opinion is way too much. I’ve met some great clients through the app tho, but honestly once you have your clientele built up, it’s not worth using the app. The app itself also glitches quite often. I still have a sitting listed as ‘active’ that is multiple years old. I tried to delete or archive it, but it wouldn’t allow me to on my end. I’ve contacted customer support in the past to have it removed, and was assured it would be, but it still has not been… Overall, it does work, and is an ok way to make extra money on the side, but really not worth it if you’re trying to make a professional career out of pet sitting.

lack of response from support when sitter put dogs in danger. Provided proof with camera footage.. I just had a sitter leave my dogs locker in there kennel for 12 hours a days. Multiple 12 hour days. Once my dog peed in the kennel because he hasn’t been let out in 12 hours she left the bedding in there. My puppy then started to refuse to go in the kennel because he feared no one would come back. I gave the sitter a detailed timeline of what my schedule needed to be only to witness on the security camera that it wasn’t even remotely followed. Puppy was left by himself for a while and ate toys when he was out because the sitter was deep into a game of thrones marathon at my house. She paid no attention to my dogs. She did have a chance to scope out everything on my desk and go through my things. I had video of that. Contacted support got an initial response and then silence. I provided details and video footage of the disregard for my dogs and nothing. They can’t even email me back or help get to a resolution. They don’t care they have gotten way to big and now they have no vetting. Considering never using them again.

avid rover user. I have been using rover for a few months now and overall the app is great and i have received great clients. I had not received any requests for a little while when getting started, but when the summer season started, i began getting more requests (i assume because more people are vacationing and off of work). I live in a pretty rural area so i was actually pleasantly surprised at the amount of people that have reached out to me (i have had about 5 people reach out to me which isn’t a crazy amount but it’s good for my area!) I do wish that rover did more about safety. The sitters are required to pay for a background check, but the clients who are searching for a sitter do not have to complete a background check which makes me slightly uneasy. rover also does take 15% of your pay as a sitter which can be frustrating if you are doing long term sitting or have a pricey booking. for example, i had a booking for 360 dollars total, and would have only received about 305.

Unreliable sitters. I actually currently pet sit for Rover and it isn’t difficult to keep the owners happy as well as their pets. Communication is key. But a lot of the pet sitters on this app are atrocious. I am going out of state for Thanksgiving and we’ve had multiple people tell us they aren’t available to pet sit even though they confirmed their availability for the holidays. We’ve set up three meet and greets and every single one of them has canceled because they “decided to go out of town last minute” or “their grandparents decided to visit last minute”. We had someone booked already and she cancelled on us. A person should not have to stress this much about finding a pet sitter. Rover should provide online training videos or something because it’s ridiculous the number of irresponsible people who are pet sitting for this app. Also, Rover should not be taking 20% of my hard earned pet sitting money. That’s a ridiculous amount. Rover says they use that money to pay for things that might help us during our pet sitting stays, but that’s a lie. I don’t need their help pet sitting, I’ve been doing it for years. They need to lower it to no more than 10% because 20% is way too much.

Find better “trust” support elsewhere. I started using the app and had a number of great experiences for my dog and cat. Then the dreaded terrible sociopath sitter that managed to have good reviews (always had a good response for the bad ones). This sitter lied about giving my cat meds, left then without water, back door unlocked, ate food without asking, etc. Despite the deception I brought to Rover customer service, they refused to acknowledge what the sitter did and kept blaming me for not being more careful in my sitter selections. This sitter put my pets safety at risk and is still available for booking now. The kept saying sorry you had a bad experience without actually doing anything at all to justify the fees that are paid. Nothing other than make me feel like I was complaining and unreasonable. My recommendation is to find other ways. Save your time or use Rover and just know you’re on your own unless you can show specific damages. Final advice: keep cameras in your home and if a sitter has a problem with it, don’t use them—Rover won’t believe you if there’s an issue. Not worth the risk to your little loved ones!!

Been a sitter on Rover for over 3 years, but have one issue. As a sitter, Rover is a great app for getting your name out to whatever community you’re in. The interface has become better over the years and is easy to use. My issue is not just that they take 20%(and charge the owners a fee), but they do that while having terms of service that don’t let you take the booking off app. You can be sneaky about it, but their messaging system picks up on certain words and phrases. It then emails you if it thinks you’re taking the booking off app and warns that you’ll be violating their terms of service and can have your account removed. I’ve never had an actual problem there and have done that several times, but it would just be better for the sitter and owner to not go through Rover after getting to know each other. And you can usually talk to the owner about it in person so nothing gets detected, but it’s definitely an annoyance. The only other thing to worry about is the “repeat booking” status that shows up on your profile. This is another way for them to sneakily keep you on the app for at least two bookings with the same client. It CAN be helpful to owners to know that people came back to you, but a lot of people just need one booking for a long time or only need you as a backup sitter so it definitely throws off the numbers. Other than that, Rover has been a great way for me to build a side business that I can do while working elsewhere.

What I love and Hate. I think rover is a great place for you to earn extra income, specially if you love animals and love hanging out with them! Rover gave me the opportunity to do so and it’s really easy to manage and get bookings! What I do hate completely is that if someone cancels 3 days before the booking and I have that set up as my cancelation, I don’t received the deposit but Rover pockets it! Another thing I hate is that they have a service fee of 15-25% but then you also charge the owners a 10% service fee, if you’re charging them 10% shouldn’t we also only get charge 10% service fee, making it 20% for each booked service, is not fair I’m doing all the work and Rover get most of my earnings after all the process, I think that needs to be revised if you’re going to charge both the sitter and the owner, make the service fee half and half! Besides that it’s really easy process just make sure to get your name out there and look at the sitting prices within your area!

BEWARE OF ANGELICA FROM LAS VEGAS. BEWARE OF ANGELICA FROM VEGAS! I wish I could give a review with 0 stars! I booked a sitter in the Las Vegas area (Angelica) she has 46 five star reviews which portrays her as a good person to leave your dog with. I'm not from Las Vegas which didn't give me time for a meet and greet. When I messaged her saying I was on my way she responded that she wanted to meet me outside of her apartment. I asked if I could go into her apartment to insure my dogs safety for the night, however she said she doesn't let people in her house. I love my dog and I would never put her in a position where I didn't know she was safe. Due to this I was forced to cancel and her policy was set as moderate which means she still gets half of the money for the booking. Even though she received my money rover still does not let you leave a review on her page because it's in the canceled category. There is no way to bring this to anyone's attention while looking at her page and she probably makes hundreds of dollars off this a year. Customer service at rover tells me there is no way for me to leave a review even though I paid this host. After this experience I can promise you I would never used rover again.

Terrible. Worked for them one time the client did not upload all the pets they have and I called the first day of the booking to have to correct this so that I and them would be paid accordingly. Spent almost 2 weeks on the phone with their support with little to no help after I was reassured they would handle it. I escalated to Peyton who once again assured me they would be able to manual charge the client since I did my due diligence and brought the issue to their attention on the first day. Received minimal correspondence from them and they clearly dragged their feet for too long to where they couldn’t resolve the issue properly. I was then giving a lousy $100 credit and they acted like that was suppose to just make me go away. I’m still out almost $300 dollars. Needless to say don’t expect them to have your back if you work for them. They also told me I would have to get a lawyer to pull the phone calls I made to prove I did my part to make this right? I’m sure that’s not in company policy to basically tell people you have to sue them to prove you’re right. Never again will I work for them.

Rioer is Fabulous. Rover fits our lifestyle perfectly. We love dogs but, being retired we do like to travel a fair bit and that makes it hard to have a dog. Now people bring their wonderful dogs to our house. We go for walks, play catch, and chill together in front of Netflix. It’s perfect. Then after a few days their owners come back and pick them up. Perfect again. We have some owners that travel some also, so we develop a great relationship with their dog. We look forward to them coming here and (their owners tell us) the dog looks forward too. Ha ha. Rover as an app and as an organization is first rate. It’s easy to use and if there is ever a problem their customer service team is proactive. It’s such a win win. We love having the dogs visit, we get paid, but I think the best thing about Rover is the one-on-one love and attention we give them and I’m sure many other hosts do as well, in what could otherwise be a stressful situation when their owners are away.

Easy enough to use but needs updating. Love the ease of use and convenience! I hate that 20% of the money goes back into Rover. Would much rather pay a membership fee than have the sitters lose so much income! It would also be nice to prompt tips better. I think most families don’t remember after picking up their pets. If Rover did more management on their end, the fees would make more sense. Like: if owners were able to submit vaccinations and vet history to the app and get a check mark if they were up to date (like we do for background check)… I would love the ability to not sit pets that are not up-to-date and not have to manage the paperwork on my end… giving contact info to be able to receive that information… A rover redirect email, like the phone number, would be a great option! We need more care information for owners to fill out- like if they sleep in a crate/with humans… specific pet rules/tricks they know, and food quantity specific questions/ allergies… Also, we need a way to see previous sitters stars/reviews!!! It would be super helpful to avoid issue, just like the rideshare and home/vacations rental services have. One other thing that would be nice is be able to set a booking message/ email. An email that looks like it’s from us, through Rover that says something like thanks for booking, here’s what you need to know/bring, here are additional questions I have… here’s my address… etc.

Very disappointed. This review is if rover as a company not so much the app. My first experience with trying to book a dog walker was very disheartening. I put in my information and then I get a really long list of walkers to choose from. I have no idea how to sort through this list and find who would be a good fit for me so I start clicking walkers with the most reviews. I settled on a girl who just didn’t want to work with me or maybe she didn’t like my dog. So after talking back and forth and settling on a day that she was available she asked my location then all of a sudden remembered she had a baby sitting job that conflicted with my days. Mind you I was trying set up a long term arrangement every Friday. So either she baby sits all day every Friday or she just didn’t like us. Which is fine it’s her choice but I was offended and turned off to try and pick another person and convince them that I’m a nice person with a good dog after all I’m paying for a service. I shouldn’t have to beg you to take my money. Maybe instead of having customers pick through walkers who don’t want to be bothered how about y’all list the job and have interested walkers and sitters contact us.

Do not pay for a background check. Signed up to walk dogs for extra cash when work slowed due to covid and after more than 2 months my background check has not been done even though I paid for it. This had caused my profile to be pending review and incomplete. I reached out to Rover in regards to the the delay and they replied, “Thanks for following up - I apologize for the delayed response as I was out of the office. Background checks are conducted by a separate company, who we pay to run the check. Unfortunately, a refund can’t be issued because your background check has already begun processing and it cannot be canceled. You are free to deactivate your account if you'd like and it can be reactivated anytime in the future should you choose to provide services.” Didn’t realize processing would take MONTHS to compete...this app is totally not worth it. EDIT: If the service you provide can not be completed due to covid, you should not be taking people’s money for background checks at this time or you need to update your processing times and be VERY clear it could take months. The lack of transparency with your situation is keeping this review at one star. The charge has been disputed with my credit card company.

The app UI needs work!. Rover is great to earn some money taking care of pets but the app itself is very annoying. For example, the page where you can check posted walk requests - I don’t know how to get to that page without the link that comes in a text message. And when I am on the page, sometimes the navigation button to go back to the dashboard is missing! The same problem when I go to my walk card after starting a walk. I’m missing a button to go back to previous view. I actually had to restart my phone to be able to come back to the main screen in the app. Edit: In response to the developer message - Yes, I did call the Rover support the last time this happened to me. During an active walk I opened another walk request and was not able to leave that page anymore. All they were able to do is advise me to tell the dog owner what’s going on and restart my phone. You need to look for bugs in the Today Screen page, this is what’s messing up the app’s navigation. I have to restart my walk after every single finished walk because there’s no way to go back from that screen.

Good service, but could use some possible updates. I’ve been using rover as a sitter and dog walker for about a year now and thoroughly enjoy it! I’ve connected with so many people and have met wonderful dogs within the year! I believe the rover app could be better though, such as the calendar. I think the calendar should have time slots that you are available to do for each day rather than marking the whole day available, also it should have an option where you’re available for only one time jobs/ recurring jobs to make it easier. Another thing is, I believe each rover account should require having pictures uploaded to peoples profiles. For instance, I get many request from people with no pictures at all so it makes me a little skeptical whether I should book with them or not. Also I believe that the reviews you give to dogs should be public to other rover sitters, the owner may say that their dog is fine and friendly but in some case that may not be true, I just believe that people who have accounts that are looking for sitters should have a review page for their dogs and theirselves as well.

I’m a sitter. I have been using rover for a few months now & have had a few clients. They really need to fix this app. It’s absolutely so difficult to navigate through. First of all, for dog boarding, you can charge someone $30 a night to stay at your house but it doesn’t make sense if the pet is staying the whole weekend and it’s only charged for the night. What about the WHOLE DAY i have to pet sit? Their “modifying” option is also horrible as it does not let me modify exactly what days i want and don’t want or how many times I’ll be visiting the dog. It’s just so confusing. Another one. I went to a ladies house to take care of her dog for a week and Rover said I’d be making $150. So after I’m done pet sitting and excited to get my HARD EARNED MONEY, i see that instead of receiving $150 i will now be receiving $120 because rover takes 20% of the money you make. That is absolutely RIDICULOUS. this app is terrible. Why should i give them TWENTY PERCENT when the app is the worst thing to navigate through. It would make sense if it was 5% or less, sure. But that’s literally stealing. If you’re considering being a pet sitter with this app, don’t even bother. They screw you over, clearly.

Great customer service. We have used rover to find sitters for our dogs ever since we got our first one 2 years ago. For our most recent trip we got cancelled on twice (first with a sitter we’ve used previously but hadn’t officially booked and paid yet, and the replacement cancelled within a a few before we needed a sitter and we had already paid). Rover reached out to me right away regarding their reservation protection policy, offering to help find a sitter and cover some of the costs. I had already found my own sitter (one I had used previously who was now available) and Rover issued us credit toward that booking due to the terrible time we had been having with sitter cancellations. I loved using the app before, and I love it even more now! It’s a great way to find good care for your fur babies, it’s free, and you can meet the sitters before booking to make sure their home/ other pets will work with yours. We will continue to use Rover for all of our pet sitting needs!

Great app. I love using Rover, especially for my newly adopted puppy while she still gets her shots. One thing I've noticed is Rover works like a hotel when requesting a "house sitter". It charges per night, not the day. This is an issue mainly because I needed someone only during the day time, not an overnight stay and WE (myself and the dog sitter) had to figure out among ourselves what dates to put in to get the price to reflect correctly. And the app doesn't allow you to select individual dates, they have to be consecutive (or all together). Again. Annoying. As a user of the app, and client---that is annoying. For one: potentially it's not the accurate dates (as in my case). So we have to triple check we're on the same page via messages. Two: it's inconvenient that we have to put in more work to figure it all out vs just discussing the pet's needs. It is a great app, I just wish and hope that the Calendar and scheduling feature becomes more versatile and includes daytime visits for extended periods of time vs only "overnight stays" and we can pick individual days.

Last minute need !!. I was going out of town and my dog sitter (my daughter) was not available to keep my babygirl Sasha. A coworker told me about Rover, which she uses frequently when going out of town. I downloaded the App and started searching sitters near me; I came across one person of interested who was available. The app was easy to use, I put in Sasha’s information; because she is a mixed Pitt, I think the person was a little leery and declined. I then found Nicole!! She was absolutely wonderful, because it was my first time, I was not clear on some things which she was kind enough to explain. On drop off day she was patient with me and Sasha and allowed us plenty of time to get over our separation anxiety, LoL. She texted me regularly and kept me posted on how things were going and sent plenty of awesome pictures!! Sasha looked soo happy and comfortable!! I highly recommend Nicole and I will be using her again!!! LENA

Why I love being a sitter for Rover. I got into River sitting after I used their services to find a sitter for my dog. I have run a business before and it was a big headache to run every aspect of my business. Rover makes it so easy for me by providing exceptional tech support, the Rover guarantee, a platform where I can obtain clients that are within my comfort ozone and commute-which I can let people know how far I will travel. I love that they give both the sitter and the owner a coded phone number for safety measures along with handling payment processings. There’s also community support with other sitters with excellent encouragement and tips plus basic guidance for me at all times. Any time I have reached out to tech support for help with refunds or modifications, they are always very professional, helpful and help guide me through the process in order to build my clientele. I can’t say enough good things about them! THANK YOU!!!

Great idea, terrible service. I have been so frustrated with the support team the past few days. I accidentally used the wrong credit card to complete a purchase for a stay—their reaction to deactivate my account and accuse me of fraud. An unhinged overreaction to an honest mistake. After being on hold for over an hour, they reactivated my account but threatened to permanently deactivate it if I displayed fraudulent behavior again. What??? It was an honest mistake, not attempted fraud. I don’t appreciate the baseless accusations and I could have explained/fixed the problem easily without deactivating my account. Instead I had to scramble to find last minute accommodations for my pet because I didn’t know that I was deactivated until the day I was supposed to meet a new sitter and tried to log in to send a message requesting the address. They also told me on the phone they would email me the contact information for the sitter while they waited for my account to reactivate, but never did. I appreciate the novel idea that Rover has had with local dog sitting and I have used them for years, but I am looking into alternatives such as Wag or Fetch.

Long overdue review!. I have been pet sitting on Rover since September 2017, just part-time alongside a full-time job and full-time college course load. That being said, I have made over $5,500 with my Rover bookings since I started, and that is only doing it around a pre-existing 40 hour per week full-time job. I’m paying my car off early thanks to Rover, which I never thought I would say! Great customer service, you choose who you want to work with and when you want to work. Charge what you want, set a service radius and even create modified rates by pet type, client, etc. One note I will give is that the sitter perks could use some attention. Lyft drivers get branded swag and/or cash bonuses for hitting certain goals; Rover currently has nothing like that. There used to be a web store where you could purchase stuff to help promote your business but they took that away. I think some of these items (shirts, bandanas, business cards, etc) would be great to give sitters as rewards for hitting specific milestones.

Unprofessional dog sitter abandoned job. Our dog sitter asked us to pick her up for the job at the last minute when she had previously said she would take public transit. She had no authority with our dogs, knew nothing about dog behavior. I had to teach her how to say “no” to our German Shepherd and even after several tries, it was still a weak and pathetic “no”. We left her with our dogs anyway, and she ended up abandoning the job while we were already on our way to our vacation because she was afraid of one of our dogs because he wanted to play. She also asked a strange man to get her stuff out of our house because she was afraid of our playful dog —a construction worker from across the street — even after I had told her that our dog did not like men whom she did not know. She compromised our dogs life. Thank god, my dog did not bite that man. This dog sitter never apologized. She even forgot her key on her key chain and demanded that we return it to her. I drove to town to drop it in the mail and told her that I did. When she did not receive it right away, she sent more messages. I eventually just blocked her. She is unprofessional, entitled, cowardly, and a liar. I will never deal with Rover again. Oh yeah... and she wanted to do the job off the app.

Calendars never updated, profiles misleading. EDIT: Continuing to reach out to people who are annoyed with me for reaching out because they're busy on the days I requested even though their calendar says they are available to dog sit. This is exhausting and miserable and please update your calendaring on this app instead of making owners hunt for a dog sitter for WEEKS only to be rejected over and over and over again. Garbage. I have had some great experiences with Rover but this app needs to be fixed big time. I have reached out to at least 20 sitters to try and find someone to take my dog for the weekend and everyone’s calendars are “recently updated”….and not available for the time I put in. It’s a waste of my time to continually reach out to new sitters and be told no again and again because they are busy that weekend but the calendar doesn’t reflect it. I also see profiles that say “potty break every 1-2 hours” and then I’m told that they’ll be gone for most of the day. Can we please somehow fix this? I am struggling so much trying to find a sitter and running out of time for my pup to find a place to stay. It’s so difficult when you put in your search criteria that is MEANINGLESS!

Great service. The App is very glitchy.. I really like the service. However, I am not very happy with the app or the website. I’m trying to write a review and it insists on getting a star rain. No problem I don’t mind giving a star rating however on both my phone and the desktop site it does not actually present the star so that I can select the number of stars to rate. This means I can’t get past the rating page and leave a tip for the sitter. I am very frustrated. To make me it matters worse the help section of the website connects to a robotic app that does not answer the question that I answered. Nor does it seem to connect you directly to a technical support agent to get the issue resolved. So you’re stuck sending an email and hoping that they notice and understand what it is that you’re trying to ask about. I do appreciate the service and the photo updates that they send you. But it seems a little unfair to make it nearly impossible to write a review and to make tipping contingent on writing the review that you can’t write because the app doesn’t work properly.

Make “upcoming bookings” a calendar view. I’m a sitter. It’s hard to see who is coming and going in a list form (as is). If it was the calendar view like Airbnb hosts, it would be very easy to visually see who is coming when and more importantly, when I have double and triple bookings in the same day Also I find it very strange that dog watchers get a rating, but dog owners and clients do not get a rating. It sends the message that the dog watcher is a servant and the owner/dogs can do no wrong. I had an interaction with a potential client that made me feel very unsafe and potentially scammed, and there is nothing I can do to warn other dog watchers about this owner. Furthermore, some dogs are aggressive and poorly behaved and there is nowhere to put that information so future owners can know what they are getting themselves into. Some people have described this app as the “uber for dog sitting” — yet in all other person-to-person apps, each person involved is considered equally important, and both get a rating.

Disappointed as a cat owner. I have been using rover to book overnight stays for my two cats when I go out of town. I’ll say a few things: 1. For cat owners, good sitters that really understand cats’ needs and how they differ from dogs is hard to come by. Most sitters seem to be great by reviews, then totally disappoint. I think most just have more experience with dogs. 2. As mentioned, communication with sitters was never super amazing. I think we are pretty laid back- we just want someone to feed dinner by 8 pm, spend the night, feed breakfast by 10 am. We stock the house with food etc but we don’t expect the sitters to be at the house all day. However, we recently had a sitter leave the house and not return to feed the cats for 15 hours....... just not the service I was expecting for the price I paid. (This was after a meet and greet so even if you meet the person, no guarantee on how they’ll actually be with your pets) 3. Biggest reason for a 1 star review- River doesn’t actually support you when issues like this come up. We contacted them after not receiving the service we paid for and they told us to “work it out” with the sitter who had already lied to us about providing service.

Life saver!. I am a total dog person, but my husband is not. Also, I had three months where I was between jobs. Rover was a life saver during that time! It gave me a relatively steady source of income during those three months while allowing me to hang out with adorable doggies. Rover is reliable and I always get paid within three days of finishing a job. Also all my clients have been trustworthy, amazing people. 😍 I signed up to be a dog walker in February or so and didn’t get a job until June, and then the jobs wouldn’t stop coming in for the rest of the summer! So don’t get discouraged if it’s slow at first. It takes time to build up your profile! Also adding house sitting and/or dog boarding are the real money makers. I got probably 300% more requests once I added house sitting to my profile and was making $200-$300 per stay. Neighborhood and service radius also make a difference. I’ve recommended the app to my friend saving up for an expensive study abroad trip because it’s THAT good.

Took them a month to see a simple issue.... I signed up for Rover on June 23rd. 1 week and 2 days later I called and asked how long does the process take and I was told I SENT MY PROFILE for analyzing on the 24th. They asked for a few days more plus 1-10 days for a background check. No problem I said. 15 days later I emailed again (this was the 4th back and forth email not counting the two times I called) I was told I didn't ”Save and Send” which not sure how that happened as I went in every day and clicked everything on there (let's make it more obvious please). SERIOUSLY?? So now you are telling me that the person on the phone, plus the person I was emailing with MULTIPLE times didn't see what was ”so clear”? Let's not I only spoke to 2 people all that time meaning the person on the email didn't do the diligence of actually looking at my file and seeing if there was something wrong. He was just guessing is that it??? Very very frustrating...needless to say I still haven't been able to use the app

Room for improvement. I love the concept of rover. It's been a great way to socialize my puppy and make a little extra money; however, the app could use a little help. I have had many new customers struggle with using the app, just as I have myself. It is not very intuitive. There should be a way to deny a booking rather than just archiving the message (which was challenging to figure out). I would like to set custom weight range preferences. My condo only allows dogs less than 30 pounds, but the pre-determined weight options go to 40lbs. The lines between daycare and boarding are kind of blurred. There should be a way to set specific pickup and drop off times, and any drops offs before or pickups after those times should get charged for a day of day care. For example, I may book a night of boarding, but they may drop off at 9AM and pickup at 9pm the next day so they basically got 2 days of daycare for the price of 1 night of boarding. Those are my biggest gripes with the app, but otherwise, I love rover, and it has been great for us!

Rover’s cut is too high, no help line!. I decided to try rover out as a part-time side gig to supplement my current stay at home job. In theory many things about this app are well set up, the interface is great, it is really easy to use and establish yourself on. Except for a massive caveat Rover takes %20 of your set fees. This is a massive amount. There are 0 transparencies as to where this money is going. To make matters worse there are absolutely no avenues to contact a real live person about an issue unless it is a “health emergency”. They do have many help articles and a forum, but with an app this big that is taking such a high cut from its contractors, you’d think they can fund a non emergency help line or minimum email?!! It is appalling that there is no one to contact on this app. I had an incredibly sweet couple that were forced to cancel an at home stay last minute because of COVID exposures. Because of the circumstances I really wanted to get them a full refund. But surprise surprise, there is no one to contact on this entire app to help facilitate this. They have THOUSANDS of users, we are in a global pandemic, they can absolutely afford to staff a help line but they don’t. DO BETTER

Recurring service issues. I have a recurring booking with my dog sitter and I want to see/modify my future bookings. However, my pending and future tabs are blanked out. Did Rover cancel my booking again? Rover should have the ability to cancel or modify a week’s booking without canceling my whole recurring booking. This is so frustrating! Please restore my recurring booking. The point of using an app is that everything can be done online. My sitter also doesn’t have the ability to cancel a week’s booking without cancel my whole recurring booking. What is the point of having a recurring booking if I have to keep checking to see if my recurring booking is there every week. You should have two separate buttons cancel the whole recurring booking or cancel a specific’s day booking. It is the second time this happened to me. Update: Today, my recurring booking is back and now, I have two reservations with the same sitter for the same dog. 🤦‍♀️ I am going to give up on recurring reservations and start booking it manually after this week. Rover is making this more painful than it is.

Company falsifying information on payment. I worked with a company by the name of Dog Vacay for many years until it was bought out by Rover, after working with Rover for about four years and watching more than 1900 dogs a year through their company I can no longer stand beside them as they raise the rates to ridiculous levels and clients without their knowledge. I stood beside the company for many years trying to expressed to clients that they were being provided false information and I can no longer do so. I will take the 20,000 clients I have and provide direct care going forward because this company Lies to Pet parents looking for care stating that they have insurance but they have never once provided any type of insurance in the six years I have been providing care through them. I have always had to pay out-of-pocket and use my own Pet Care insurance to cover cost. Most situations people booking with this company are putting the trust in complete strangers and often have no clue the quality of care provided while they are away. It is very easy to book with someone on this platform and have no idea where your dog is being placed.

The people on the app are great but the managers of the app itself endanger animals. While I was out of the country Rover blocked and removed the couple that was taking care of my dog from the app for violating terms of use, without any advanced warning, and without telling me why the people taking care of my dog were removed so I had to do my own detective work to figure out if my dog’s life was in danger (thankfully it wasn’t). With no direct contact info for the couple (Rover intermediary messaging service had them blocked), I had to coordinate transferring my dog to another caretaker from nine time zones away. The people taking care of my dog were rockstars about it, but if they weren’t I don’t know what I would have done. At the end of the day, it’s an app and we’re all faceless users to it. Like Uber and sexual assault, Rover probably figures a couple experiences like this are an inevitable part of doing business, but at the end of the day, they’re a tech company in some far off place and not a person so if some system decides to cut you off from your dog or its caretakers, you gotta fix it yourself. At that point it would have been easier and safer to just book independently.

First time using app and not happy. I was going out of town last minute and couldn't bring my dog so I decided to try rover cause I didn't want to put him in a regular kennel cause I wanted him to be in a more loving place so I found a border on rover very decently price had many good review and repeat customers so I contacted her she said she was available the booking was confirmed and paid for a week before I had to go out of town two days before I leave she told me other clients were moving around their dates which would conflict with mine so she couldn't watch my dog so the booking was canceled so I could find another I am so stressed and am very upset I think it's very unprofessional to agree to do a job after it has been accepted and paid for then to screw over a client and now leaving me rushing to find someone else and I've tried about 8 other rover boarders and every single one was unavailable but their calendars said they were which just wasted my time I have found one who I'm meeting with today and hopefully it doesn't fall through but I'm not sure if next time I'm gonna bother trying this app and try something else the only good thing I can say is that the idea of this app is great but it needs work

App needs some changes. As a first time user, I am finding some shortcomings of the app. I put in all information for my two dogs, and when I looked for sitters they show overnight prices (price per night), but it doesn’t specifically state that those prices are for one dog, not two. So I thought I was getting a good deal for a dog sitter just to find out that the price doubled (since I have two dogs) as soon as I messaged a dog sitter on the app. Basically, the app should specifically state that the price is per pet, per night. The double in price comes to a bit of a shock after you message someone. Also, I suggest that the app lets you book your future pet boarding stays by putting half down instead of the whole amount. Like I said, when a price doubles from $250 to $500, a person as to be able to budget for that kind of cash. Having all the money upfront doesn’t seem very reasonable. Half down upfront and the remaining a few days before the actual stay would make sense (kind of like air BnB). Outside of that the app seems to be easy to use and easy to see good pet sitters.

Gives way too much power to clients to determine what they’re willing to pay for a service. The app doesn’t show owners looking to book what the price of the sitter they are requesting will be; it just shows “From $XX/night” which means I’m constantly getting owners who submit requests where they omit pets beyond the first because they want to make their own rates. Rover has no way to combat this to not disservice sitters—if I decline a booking request because the owner is unwilling to pay me what I am owed for the service that they want (I had a woman try to book under a single dog for two dogs and a cat, she insisted after the initial request that she was fine paying more for the extra animals, but then when we met in person she kept insisting that “it’s not an extra walk” for the second dog, and insisted that $300 was far too expensive for a ten night stay, mind you I’d keep $250 or less of that and my rates were lower than others in my area) my search ranking and performance scores are affected, and the owners are going to find a sitter that is willing to basically work for free. I’ll change my rating when Rover displays the cost to the sitter and not the base rate. Just ASSUME people are going to be in a hurry and not look at a sitters ACTUAL rates.

Don’t trust the reviews. I just got notification that my fact only based review of the experience I had with one of the boarders for Rover is being deleted due to us not actually leaving our dog at the residence. The reason I felt the need to write the review (I promise I have better things to do) was to make sure people were aware of the conditions they might encounter and did praise when praise was due on the prompt communication. The other 60 reviews I read before choosing them (they have 5 stars...shocker) to watch our pup did not mention that they might have up to 8 dogs in addition to their 3 cuties in a 1000sq ft house (in our case my dog would have been the 9th dog there). I think it’s rather telling that we chose to not leave our dog at their house after already paying for the stay in full and would have taken all of those factors into consideration before booking. Instead, Rover has decided to delete this information for future customers. It makes me sad I can no longer trust their company since they will just do away with a one star, but honest, and objective review. I know there are plenty of great people who provide a service on there that will be negatively impacted on this companies decision to censor.

Doesn’t stand behind their safety policy. I used the same sitter for about a month on the app. After this time period, the sitter stopped showing up to drop in visits and responding to all messages. I decided to go another route (obviously this person was unreliable) and asked for my house key back. The sitter never responded to any attempts to get my house key back once I questioned if she was actually showing up to visits (she would fill out rover cards with the same pictures each day and when I got home it would appear that my dog hadn’t been let out). When I involved Rover, they told me that there was nothing they could do about it other than deactivate the sitters account. They were extremely hard to work with. The customer service rep who spoke with me (once I finally got an actual number to call and not go only through email) was very unprepared and not knowledgeable about the material AT ALL. Every question I asked she had to place me on a brief hold to either ask someone else or look up the answer. She had no concern that this sitter had a key to my house and could walk in at any time. I will not be using this service again.

Glitchy. The app has been glitchy for months. I always keep my phone and apps updated weekly. I have to close the app and reopen it several times to view my client load for the day. Also, it would be easier if clients were listed in order of times instead of randomly grouped, or at least provide a range of view options. 3rd, the app does not link to my iCal on my phone no matter what I’ve tried. I have to carry around a paper calendar to keep everyone sorted. 4th, the app doesn’t provide drive time from client to client, which really upsets some clients. 5th, 20% for what exactly? We have to pay for all promo materials, our own gas, supplies, and the app is ridiculous to use half the time. I can’t sort messages, I can’t sort clients, I can’t search messages or clients, I can’t modify booking type, times are hit and miss to modify without getting support involved. And now the pay metric is delayed. You can’t clearly see when you will get paid, but you can sure see the fees being drained from the hard work and from the clients who book.😡

Like the services Rover provides but interface needs improvement. I really like the service Rover provides me of being able to find reviewed walkers for my dog, messaging them, using the message in app or texting, seeing the rover card and all of the details it provides after the walk. But I find myself constantly confused about how to use the app. I’m a PM at a tech company so I consider myself pretty good with technology. Things to be improved: it’s hard to find previous messages with walkers, allow me to set a default option for service (walk, check in, etc) ( I recently booked a check in instead of a walk somehow), allow me to delete/cancel pending requests I no longer want, and allow me to have a conversation with previous walkers without having to book a day yet. Also do I need to review a walker if I use them each week? I feel bad not reviewing each time but also don’t want to flood their reviews with just my feedback. It would be great if rover could tell I’ve already reviewed a couple times and stop prompting me. Also i can’t always figure out why the app is badged.

Perhaps hire some UX/UI?. While the concept is great and I’ve always found a great sitter for my dog through the app, the interface itself is lacking in many areas. One in particular being that there is no way to cancel /archive a conversation if the booking doesn’t happen. This results in a sitting notification that doesn’t remove itself until after the time that the booking was scheduled for (ie if you try to book a service a month out and they aren’t available, you are stuck with a notification about that conversation until after the time you were trying to book a service for.) The UI can also be improved by allowing you to modify your booking message when offering you a chance to mass send your message to all available contractors. That way you’re not reaching out to everyone with a message that was specified for an individual you reached out to.
