More than a tuner app. I am using this app for about half a year or more and I found an extra use of it. As a luthier apprentice, I need something to let me know where the wood use for my ukuleles projects tone is. This app help me a lot with this. I can see the frequency and the note where the wood is resonating and recognizing the limitations it really help me. At least to tune the parts of the instruments at different notes to avoid the high buzz of the instrument at one note. For me it is more than a strings tuner app. Like it a lot.

All you need. I feel like I have used this app since the dawn of time. If you play in your house - slambamthankyoumaam. It’s all you need. Just download and use it.

Tone generator ignores Bluetooth speaker connection. I do not know why, but for some reason this specific app ignores the Bluetooth speaker that I have connected to my iPad or iPhone. This is unfortunate because it is the main reason I bought the app. Please fix soon.

Please remove that new ad. I paid for this app and it previously did not have an obnoxious ad when I opened it. It is an amazing tuner but I still give it 1 star until the ad is gone. I paid for it to not be a free tuner with ads.

Great tuner!. Awesome little tuner. I can quickly spot tune everything from my banjo to my uke to my guitar to my bass. Love this! My iPhone is always charged unlike my little snarky tuner I carry around that left me with a dead battery at a critical moment.

Great app, Good price, Wonderful product. I've tuned pianos professionally for several years primarily using TuneLab ($300 app). I decided to try another tuning app (InsTuner) to see if the cheaper apps could still get the job done. InsTuner exceeded my expectations! This is a great tuning app! For $4? This app could be professionally sold for much more than that. Great quality for a tuner. Simple and easy to use. Definitely able to get a professional tuning job done. The only advantage I could see to having TuneLab over this app is that TuneLab has a precision level of 0.02 cents whereas InsTuner has a precision level of 0.1 cents. For 99.9 percent of pianos and instruments that need tuning the 0.1 cents precison level is more than sufficient. Basically, this is a well-made and accurate app for an incredibly cheap price.

Good for iOS, but poor Mac OS implementation. I use tuner apps for rough tuning free reeds before I place them in the instrument. My go to app was “ updated” for the current iOS and became unusably unstable. I thought to try’s Mac app since I use a desktop with my digital microscope, but the Mac version of this app shows up as a 2x2.5 or so inch window attached to the menu bar. You can’t move it or make it larger. It works as far as I can tell, but I don’t understand what the display is trying to tell me. I just go with the cents reading and hope. Well, the iOS version does work very well on my iPad Pro. An excellent replacement for my old app. The interface is large and clear and has no trouble locking on the fundamental , which is a failing of many tuners when dealing with tones that have very strong harmonics and a necessity for dealing with free reeds.

Great tuner, crashes in landscape mode. Gets the low E string like nobody's business it just that on thing. This app is my backup even before the tc electronic clip tuner

Very accurate. And fast

No longer works, abandonware. I have changed my rating from 5 to 1 star. I really liked this tuner, and particularly the fact that it includes temperaments, but unfortunately it doesn’t work with my new iPhone XS. The tuner has trouble detecting notes lower than F2. Some of them it confuses with other notes, and others it doesn’t pick up. The interface also needs to be updated for the new screen sizes. Given how long it has been since an update, I doubt this app will continue to work any longer, and I would warn people not to buy it.

Hasn’t been updated in almost a decade. Has a app breaking bug where you can’t tune if you change your devices orientation. The tuning needle disappears. Been this way for a couple years now. Disappointing.

Multi use. Great app, capable of so many things! I use it for tuning my guitars as well as pitch training for my vocals. The different tuning modes are clutch!

Amazing tuner!. In the mid-1990s I bought the Korg MT-1200 Multi Temperament tuner. It had some presets and room for user-programmable temperaments. I paid about $500 for it. insTuner does everything the old Korg did and more. When I bought insTuner, it was $3.99. I find this incredible. I use it all the time and recommend it to my students. Eh.. It seems like crap to me. Tunes good, but I like using E A D G B E for my guitar, and this wants to pick notes for me. I’m a bit new to the guitar but I haven’t seen anyway on this app to let me change which notes I want for each string.

Everything you need. Whether for a quick tuning or more accurate adjustments, this app works. Period. Replaces all my previous stand alone tuners.

Drum tuning approved. This app is a great resource for me as a drum tech in the studio and live. I combine this and the TuneBot from Overtone Labs to tune drums. The tone generator keeps me dead accurate for tuning individual lugs and the entire drum. The tuner always give me an accurate note/frequency to help me with targeted intervals etc. I would have paid $100. The app is way advanced and I use about 5% of what it can do. Every musician/sound engineer should have this.

So disappointing. This app does not function on my iPhoneX nor on my wife’s iPhone XS . It will work for a second and then not work for five seconds, which makes it impossible to tune. A tuner must have a continuous and smooth response, or else it is useless. It would be awesome if it would just work and do what it claims to do.

Last updated 8 years ago. Crashes constantly. Deleted, reinstalled, still crashes. I’m using an M1 iPad Pro.

Hands down the best tuner period!. Tune anything. Use it to tune any instrument. I use it on uke and guitar, but also check your harmonica! Works very well in fairly noises environments like 75 Ike’s in a concert hall.

Crashes & Should be removed from the App Store. I’m using the paid version of this app with iOS 16.3.1, and it crashes ever time I attempt to access the settings. If a software developer isn’t going to maintain their product’s functionality with somewhat regular updates (last update was 7 years ago), then they should stop selling it.

I prefer it over my normal tuner. Extremely accurate and easier than a normal guitar tuner to do a custom tune (I.e drop d). I cannot stress how good this app is

Easy and great. This is a straight ahead simple effective and stable tuner. I recommend it big time.

So many options, really accurate!. This app appeared deceptively simple at first (working great, I was happy) until I got into the advanced settings; then I realised how great it is. There are settings for *everything*! The usuals (A4 pitch, transposition) and then so many more: which microphone, FFT view, spectrogram, temperament, etc. There are also presets for A pitch for every style you can think of, or you can have it detect with microphone (e.g. To tune to a specific piano). Absolutely invaluable app.

Buy the damn app.. If you’re on the fence, just get this. It’s great.

InsTuner. Best tuner available. Easy to use and there are some real gems of information and some excellent teaching aids buried within for more experienced players. It’s by far the best value app that I have for any purpose. A worthwhile addition would be a music journal similar to the app “MusicJournal” which no longer works with the latest IOS software.

Promising new app when quirks corrected. A few problems: • Status bar hidden • Poor English localization (word choice, spelling, grammar) • Limited frequency range for setting A standard: 400.1–479.9Hz • Requires constant button depression for tone generation • Selecting square or sawtooth waveforms will read slightly over-frequency • One help screen (Custom settings) runs off display bottom • Rather than screen orientation locking to portrait, app runs off display when device rotated

Really handy. This is a really reliable useful tuner. I have found it has heaps of functions that I use heaps and really enjoy having fun with. But lest get to the point, this is a good tuner that works and has lots of handy tools for people that play an instrument (or sing). Thanks hope I didn't bore any one too much ;)

Fantastic tuner, tone generator a useful intonation tool.. I wish this tuner app had existed before I bought a couple other tuners for more money (namely iStroboSoft and PolyTune). An easy to read implementation of several types of frequency visualizations. The tone generator is a great one too, though I wish you could add a simultaneous second note, like a perfect fifth, above the generated tone, and also tune the tones manually. Great job, I hope you make a ton of money.

Fantastic app. Absolutely fascinating. I just discovered the other day that when you sound two tones from a cord, say E5 and G5, the tuner picks up the beating tonic, C4! This is fascinating. The only suggestion for minor improvement I have is to enable arbitrary frequency range setting in the FFT spectrum.

Excellent App. Have been using this tuner for a couple of years now for my auto harps (two about 1970 - 36 strings, and one 1930 vintage - 21 strings), and a piano. Had some problems initially with the software locking up, but my comments were addressed very quickly, and the updates have been very successful and reliable. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

Best tuner app. I have tried all of the other tuner apps out there, and had used Cleartune for at least a year before discovering Instuner. It is simple to use but has so many useful features. I am a string orchestra teacher and use it in my classroom daily for tuning. Don't look any further when it comes to tuning apps!

Fantastic!. Why go out and buy a $30 clip-on tuner for my uke when I could get a fabulous free tuner app right on my iPad? I've downloaded 3 other tuning apps which simply just played the note and left me to match it on my own, but this one tells me how flat or sharp I am! When I came across this one, I was so happy! 😄 This app offers many different options for tuning, the chromatic and the tone generator. What's the point of practicing if your instrument isn't in tune? As long as you have this app, you'll never be too flat or too sharp again!

So my tuner broke.... ...so I thought "gotta buy a new one" until I remembered seeing a tuner thing in an Apple commercial. That app seemed clunky. Then I found this one...utter perfection! I actually think I'm in slightly better tune now than with the hardware tuner I just got rid of. Amazing accuracy and great easy interface. I'm not kidding...buy this app if you need a serious chromatic tuner. It's wonderful.

Nice!. Pretty legitimate! It's easy to use, free and it has a great variety of selections to choose from to make tuning easier for the specific individual. It's pretty accurate and that's because I use it to help me pitch-tune my drums. Drums can produce a ridiculous amount of dissonance when tuning due to the tension varying from lug to lug. This usually makes drums being some of the most complicated instruments to tune if your ear isn't well trained. Using this app, I was able to get the drums very close to the relative pitches/notes that I wanted them at. Great app!

Really helpful. I sometimes can't figure out where I am when tuning due to background noise and other tuners all over the place. This one shows you where you are chromatically. It's really nice and pretty close to being as accurate as my guitar tuner (it's in my acoustic case and in too lazy to get it most of the time). My phone is always on me. It's really good when checking the pawn shops. I find good guitars in there sometimes, but they are usually really out of tune. This really helps!!! Thanks!

Simply works. So I was on my way to a rehearsal 2 hrs away the other day and realized I had left my tuner(s) back at my place. I have 4 different tuners and managed to leave all of them, so I checked the App Store for a decent tuner to hold me over. This tuner is awesome! The fine tuning is better than many hardware tuners and I was set up and in tune in no time. I had not visited any of the settings or instructions before I started using the app. I just opened the app, set the iPhone on my bass can and tuned up. Works great and is very feature rich I have since discovered. I recommend this app to any musician. It can be a real gig saver if you are forgetful like myself.

Outstanding! No complaints.. I've been using this on my own for months. And it has been invaluable. However, I just started teaching music to others, and now it's value is really on display. It is especially helpful for explaining sound and frequencies and the "math" involved in the harmonic overtone series. I could go on and on. Or.....you could download it and see (and hear) for yourself.

Easy to use and practical. This is such a useful app. I open it up, play my strings and it directs me which way I need to tune. Easy, fast and effective. I have not used it in environments with lots of background noise, but so far it's slick.

Great tuner!. This is one of the best free tuners I've seen. It seems to be slightly flat (2 cents) to my old Korg but that is assuming that my Korg is right. I particularly like the adjustments for A440 - especially as I occasionally play on a period instrument that tunes to 430 and 415. The pitch wheel is handy as is the kind of options. The one thing I'd add in is the ability to be a little less touchy - of an option to respond a little slower. Even my Korg won't keep the dial completely steady although it is 99% there. Most tuner apps are slow to respond but this one is almost too fast. In all, though, this one is excellent. Easily 5 stars.

Amazing Tuner. I use this tuner primarily for guitar. What I love about it is I am able to see the tuning with a large dial with chromatic notes on the bottom and also with a gauge at the top that allows me to see the variation in cents. When you strike a note on the guitar your tuning naturally goes sharp depending on how hard you strike your string. Your intonation as the string vibration subsides goes flat. Being able to see the cent variation allows you to keep the entire intonation within the green zone and matched up with every other string. G strings should also be tuned approximately -10 cent after your initial strike and the cent meter allows me to do this perfectly. I have had this for three days and my guitar has never sounded better. For 4 bucks, this is a must have!

Perfect Tuner. If you play guitar, this is an amazing app - and it's free. It let's you get your tuning as exact as you want to with the most unbelievably simple interface, Simply put it in front of your guitar and play a string. You can see visually which string you're playing and how close you are to the right note. It's pretty darn nice (PDN)!

Great Tuner App!!!!. I use this app whenever I am tuning my clarinet and my clarinet section - so easy to use. I absolutely love it. The great thing is that it gives you a drone so you can practice tuning by ear, which is a great skill for musicians to learn and practice. All around great app.

How did I live without you?. I haven't had to buy a 9 volt battery in years thanks to this app. Having a tuner was an annoying problem I haven't thought about once since downloading and installing. I love it.

BEST TUNER ON THE APP STORE. The insTuner app is an absolutely outstanding apps for musicians. I won't go too crazy on the different features that it has to offer but I will say (with confidence) that this is app, is the best instrument tuner on the App Store. InsTuner features many different interfaces for the user, such as, a strobe tuner, a "Spectrogram" tuner, an on-the-go tuner, etc… and it is EXTREMELY user friendly and can be used even without wifi or an internet connection. It can tune anything from a bass guitar, to a six-string guitar, or a cello, or a violin, or anything ! I HIGHLY recommend it to working musicians or just music hobbyists.

Get this Tuner!. Put simply, this tuner works, very well. I use it on my classical guitar before every session. I even use it on my cello and it works fantastic there to. Also good for checking intonation while playing/practicing. I love this app! Thanks for this tuner!

One of the best tuners I have ever used.. I don't know who to give the credit, could apple have designed such amazing microphones, or is the utter optimized for it? After using many other tuners I'll go with the latter. The display is brilliant, providing an easy to read yet comprehensive analysis. If you ever use a tuner, or ever plan to, this a no-brainer of a download. My highest recommendation for being an extremely accurate tuner and a design that provides all the information in an uncluttered manor. Enjoy!

Super Accurate!. I've adjusted my guitar's intonation with insTuner and I'm so impressed on how this tuner is so accurate. Now, when I strike a chord on my guitar, the chord sounds so rich and pure! I've installed the app on my iPad, but I will install it on my iPhone as well so I will always have it with me. InsTuner will be my new tuning tool from now on!

Seems to freeze and be inconsistent with notes?. I'm a beginner so take my review with a grain of salt. When I tried to use this I was first a little disappointed it didn't have that usual guitar tuner function where you see the strings you're supposed to be playing. But that's not a big deal, I was able to figure it out. The real problem for me was that after I played a note, the app sometimes seemed to freeze for several seconds and wouldn't pay attention if I played the note again. It also wasn't terribly consistent (perhaps because it's accurate down to a really small margin?) Eventually I became suspicious of how wildly it seemed to swing about when I was tuning one string, and so I just plucked the same string (without adjusting it) a couple times to see what happened. The results were all over the place, from as far left on the tuner as possible to the farthest right! It was on average more towards a certain value but any particular pluck was not reliable. Again maybe I'm just making some dumb beginner mistake... Will change my review if I find that's true!

Absolutely Perfect. Please don't change a thing, don't upgrade, don't change UI, don't add or take away features, don't improve it. It does all it claims and so much more. You will chuck your electronic tuners for piano, guitar, violin,.....and you can check the tuning of your singing voice. We made instruments with bottles of water and tuned them to be perfect.

Best tuner ever...just get it!. This is an amazing tuner, the best I've ever used, either hardware or phone-based. It's EXTREMELY accurate and stable, easy to use at home, rehearsal, or onstage. I play multiple instruments in various ranges and this tuner copes with them all with no problems. The new interface options and features in the new release seem like they will be very useful.

A great tuner, now even better with version 2!. This app is great… and considering it's currently free, it's truly amazing. One of the few things I didn't like about it was that it was rotation-locked… no landscape mode, or not even a vertical upside down mode. That's resolved now, and some other neat features have been added. Thanks for such a wonderful and useful app!

Finely Tuned!. This tuning app-eratus is indeed exquisite in its varied form and magnificent function. Its designer may well earn the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of all the unnecessary sounds that I will avoid making as I practice my violin at home in the presence of my family during this my first year of instruction. And, if i haven't already said enough, I love this app because it is so easy to look at and use. I am satisfied completely, and I am certain that I will be richly rewarded musically for my small expenditure of money.

Update 2.0 Bug. I love this app - detailed, easy to use, reliable. Until now. Ever since the update 2.0, the app will freeze all the time. The only way to exit it is to force shutdown the iPhone by pressing the power and home button at the same time. I had to delete it off my phone and use another tuning app! Please release a patch for this bug! This is by far the best tuner I've used, but because of the freezing, there's no way to use it anymore!!

Simple. Elegant. Functional.. Does what it says, and does it well. And you can't beat the price. The developer has really thought about the interface, making it a quick and efficient tool.

Kidtask. The best app I have used,I am retired and perform with two community concert bands on Euphonium and perform with a Classical Guitar Ensemble,my ears are not the same when I was 20yrs old and have some hearing loss from performing 50yrs,great tool for checking my pitch during live performances and during practice,also could be very useful I am learning to build Classical Guitars.

Works on low strings!. I tried several free tuner apps but none worked well when it came to tuning the low strings on my steel guitar. Decided to pay for this app - based on the positive reviews - and it was money well spent. Unlike the other apps, this one registers low tones perfectly. The others just don't "hear" those low tones.

Can't beat it. This is the best 4$ I've spent in a long time!!! I've been on the hunt for a chromatic tuner for a while for my electric violin and they range anywhere from 20-50$. this guy does all that and more. Worth the pocket change for sure!

Love this app!. Use it every week in the studio. I find it incredibly accurate and easy to use. I've tried a handful of tuning apps and this is hands down my favorite and what I recommend to other musicians.

Perfect. This app is stunningly accurate. it is perfect for what I have wanted to do for a long time and have not been able to find a hardware unit to accomplish this. This app I can tune up to 444 and be able to drop each string flat to accommodate for Capo or just general tension. Any historical tunings or great if you ever run across an old piano that is set to one of these tunings now you can tune up your guitar or any other instrument to be able to play along with them.

Awesome got more awesome. I have the iPhone 5 and play tenor sax, I compared this to a 40 dollar tuner and its perfect. This app just got update and its even better now, has lots of ways of tuning and supports full screen on iPhone 5, there are some bad reviews but those are from people that are to dumb to go to the settings and change it to there instruments transposition.

Awesome n easy. Absolutely love this app. I use it for my guitar, my son's violin and upright bass. The new features are even more amazing. The Only Tuner You Need. This thing outperforms my Korg CA20, for which I paid a LOT more. I think I grabbed this when it was the free app of the day, but it's worth paying for. I love how the circle gets you close and the bar on top really nails it. If you have an iPhone, and play a stringed instrument, you must get this.

2nd best in class. It's a pretty good app all around especially for being free and seems to be pretty accurate got a pretty decent set of features the problem is that it often freezes up and stops working needs to be restarted and will start working again I think it's the second best tuning app there's one called n-tune i think is better although they do most of the same thing

Simple UI with many features. has some advanced viewing features and it also generates tone. Very clean, simple, elegant interface and very accurate. Great app! I would suggest making it easier to switch between views. Instead of having to go to the settings, maybe swiping left or right on the top section would be more convenient. ps. the purchasable spectrogram view is worth the .99!

Piano Tuning Bargain. Having never tuned a piano before I was pleasantly surprised to get better results than the professional tuner ever bothered to attain. The cost of this app and the tools to do the job were less than one pro tuning. It works!

Guitar tech. This tuner is easy to use and very accurate. The digitally displayed needle is steady, helping to dial in the fine tuning. This app has a very small memory footprint especially compared to some others. I will recomend it to students and others.

Must have. If you are looking for a tuner, this is it. I am a professional violinist and teacher and this tuner fits absolutely all my needs. It has all the features a professional could wish and at the same time can be very simple and useful for, say, a parent of a young student who needs to tune a small violin. Worth twice the price!

Update 2.0 freezes iPhone. My daughter has used this app for tuning her violin for some time. Yesterday I updated the app. After opening the updated version my IPhone froze, then went to a black screen for a couple minutes, finally the apple symbol came back and phone rebooted. I opened the app again to be certain that it was causing the problem; the same things happened. I then removed the app from my phone. Today I did a sync on my phone with my Mac; as a result the app came back but as the old version. I will not make the mistake again of doing the current recommended update.

Superb.. I play the double bass and have been searching for a specific tuner, that of which I cannot kind. I ordered a Korg tuner instead of the one I initially wanted and am waiting for it to be shipped. In the meantime, to keep my bass tuned, I have been using this, and it is just absolutely wonderful. It is accurate and simplistic. I can tune in a matter of minutes instead of tuning to my piano, which is a bit more time consuming. I highly recommend this free app. Great for beginners and intermediates alike. Works great for orchestral strings. It will definitely suffice for a few more weeks, and then some!👌🎤🎧🎼🎵🎶🎹🎻🎺🎷🎸

Hard to believe this is FREE. This is a full-featured, well made and attractive app. There aren't any banner ads, so it's hard to believe this is being given away. I've tested this against a Seiko digital tuner that I have and they behave identically, with the edge going to Instatuner for its variety of display options, clarity of information and great transposition support (great for horns!).

Precise and Functional. This is probably the best guitar tuner on the App Store. You have to have at least a basic knowledge of notes to understand it, aside from that, even a beginner can use it. I originally had a guitar tuner app that I already used, but it could only tune standard tuning, when I really needed other tunings (whole step down, drop D, etc..). So I found this app, now I can get any tuning I want, fast and easy. Great app if you need a greater choice of tunings.

Actual tuner (not just tone generator) YES!!. Love this app, never tried any of the ones that actually cost money, nor have i compared it to handheld or stomp box tuners, but it seems plenty accurate for guitar. Took me a bit of searching to find a free one that wasnt ONLY a tone generator for tuning by ear, but this one does both! Very happy. One of the comments below complains about iPhone 5 support, but it works just fine on my iPhone 5.

THE WORLDS BEST TUNER!!!!. I'm in strings at this time at my school and I wanted to know how to tune my instrument, every other tuner I tried didn't work. ( I don't want to pay for my stuff. ) So I tried looking for some free stuff and I found this app. It is amazing!!!! I didn't even know how to tune before and now I do. There is a setting to help you and tell you which way to go. GET THIS APP, I MEAN IT'S THE WORLD'S BEST TUNER!!!!

Perfect. This app provided probably the 2nd or most accurate tuners yet. It also has a great tone generator that will play indefinitely. The tone is round which is great for blending and you have various octave options. What makes this better than all the others is that the tuner stays on while you use the tone generator, so you can really tune the intervals. I tend to have smaller thirds and fifths and I just finished working on that with this app. Its worth money, man...

The best app I have ever used.. I am not very good at programming but almost always I can find something in an app which I think I can improve. I must say that this is one app which I found to be complete - well rounded if you will. This is the only app I have taken the effort to write a review for. The UI is very crisp. To top it, it's free!

Simple and complex (as needed). Parent with no music background. 7 yr old child taking violin. Easy to use where I can see (easily) how to tune strings w either small or large knobs (App easily shows you how close you are to the proper note and tells you too high or too low). Teacher thought all parents could do this w ear or "piano in the house." If you are like me or don't have a $20,000 piano in your house, you cannot lose with this app. I bought the $18 tuner from the violin store which is battery-powered and attaches to the end of the violin. It is sitting on the shelf as it's much faster to pull out my iPhone and tune the violin before night time practices or before his afternoon lesson. To the developers: please add a simple to use metronome feature. I need this but the ones on the Internet/App Store are too complex and I like one-stop for everything music lesson practice apps.
