We take your feedback to heart! We really do. So, in our latest release we focused on bug fixes and improvements to both the free and paid versions of MyPlate to ensure the best possible app experience. We hope you’ll find this version to be more consistent, efficient and reliable.
Curious? Here’s a list of some of the improvements we implemented:
1. We fixed bugs that prevented Sodium and Cholesterol from displaying the correct micronutrient values.
2. For the custom foods you create, we resolved a synchronization issue that was preventing these foods from being displayed.
3. Now when you track a food, we’ve improved the look and experience of the Food Detail screen. Not only did we add a cleaner, more contemporary design, we focused on improving two key aspects:
3.1 Improved Nutritional Facts label:
For the free version of the app, we kept the same functionality but made it better in terms of visibility and design. The Nutritional Facts Label displays the macro & micro nutrients breakdown of the food relevant to a 2,000 calorie diet. We also enhanced the look of this label and made it easier to see the values at a glance. And it’s now easier for you to see this label since it’s displayed directly on the Food Details screen.
For the paid version of the app, we implemented a new feature we’re calling Smart Nutritional Facts Label, which shows you nutrition information as a percent of your daily goals! As a premium user, you can now see the macro and micro breakdown of the food you track as it relates to your personal caloric and nutritional goals. This will help you understand the percentage of calories, carbs, fat, protein, cholesterol, sodium, etc... as you track toward your daily goals.
3.2 Important new functionality: You can now re-assign a food from one meal to another. How often have you accidently tracked a food for lunch that was actually meant to be logged as breakfast or dinner? Now you can easily re-assign that food to the right meal with just couple of taps by using the new action button: Meal.
As always, we’re here to help! If you’ve come across a problem, want to provide feedback, or require support, you can get in touch with us by email: [email protected]
If you love MyPlate and find it useful, please help us spread the word! Let other people with similar diet and fitness goals know about our service by leaving a review in the app store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/myplate-calorie-counter/id502317923?mt=8
We truly appreciate hearing from you and all those reviews actually help us improve the product so YOU get the best calorie tracker app possible!
Down 19 lbs.
I don’t like it as much as the old one. Just got use to the old one and now the display is kinda confusing. I do like the nutrition display though, it is easier to understand .
I’ve been counting my calories for the last few weeks and it really does work on helping you lose weight. It’s simple to use and I’ve already started to see results.
So far it has been easy to use and most foods are already in the database. I have not added any specific brand foods that are not in the database, just used the generic foods. It has been helpful to track my balance of carbs, fat, protein and water intake.
My husband and I are using apps to develop healthier eating habits and to lose a little weight. The recent update made me want to write a 5 star review. Love that you listened to everyone’s suggestions. Shopping lists and menu support is always appreciated. Thanks for a fantastic tool.
The latest update for the free version removed a valuable feature. Before, you could get your nutritional breakdown based on your unique calorie goal and now it’s set to 2,000 calories. This makes the app almost unusable for me, a diabetic who relied on this feature to accurately calculate carbs and fiber. Please bring this back. It makes no sense whatsoever to move this formerly free feature to premium only and now I don’t want to upgrade at all!
I have been using this app for several months now. Awesome results. Lost 22 lbs so far. Plan on losing 20 more. First plan I’ve used showing real results and I’ve used plenty others. This is great!!!
Hi Team, While it is absolutely amazing to see continuous app improvements, the recent update has been really tough to get used to. I’d love to see the old UI come back, it was much easier to use and entering diet was like a second habit (entering quantities, macro-nutrient splits). Please see if the app UI can be reverted to the old design.
Since my husband and i have started to track our food i've lost 10 pounds and he has lost 20 pounds. it is holding us accountable for what we are eating. if the food isn't listed, you can enter the information directly.
Absolutely love this app! It’s like breathing to me now, I eat something and immediately log it in. It’s so simple because you can search for whatever food you ate and if it’s not already on there, you can create it. If you only eat half of something, you can adjust serving size. I log my weight, workouts (by exercise) and amount of water I drink as well. It’s also super convenient for logging combo workouts you’ve done because you can enter “calories burned” and the name of the workout. I’ve lost 13 pounds and four inches off my waist already because of this app and I don’t plan to ever stop using it! You can use the entire function of the app without paying anything for a gold membership, aside from a few workout videos (which I don’t use anyway. I get mine from YouTube.) I highly recommend this for anyone trying to lose weight and get their summer body. A++
I love using this app as I’m a teen always worried about my body image and this app along with my Fitbit helps me realise that I’m eating what I’m meant to be eating and that my body is healthy.
I have never counted calories before but I need to lose weight and this app lets me know how much I’m eating. It’s fun 🍓Update:- unfortunately most of the foods are American. And I’m surprise how hard it is to find calorie info eg serve of 6 (Sydney rock) oysters! Or sushi. There’s a lot of calorie info on brands (American) but little on simple whole fresh foods.
This app would be so much better if you could measure food out by the gram!!!! This is the only thing stopping me from using this app... Super frustrating.
Not sure if this is just an Australian thing, but doesn’t recognise barcodes of Woolworths products. Going back to old app😞
I really like this app overall however it’s not seamless for Australian residents using it. The majority of foods are not found through barcode scanning or searching which requires details from the nutritional panel to be added.
This app has a lot of bugs that means you can’t count on your data being there. I’ve had a number of occasions when I log in and find my data is gone. It’s the reason I’m not going to upgrade to a paid level. If they can’t deliver a reliable experience at the basic level, I have no confidence in other levels. When it works it’s great but the constant data bugs really impact quality and trust I have in this product.
Will rate five if this gets fixed! After 1 day of using i cant search for any new foods, wont load or present any information other than ones i have already done!!
Following up on my previous review below, it appears that weight value gets corrupted all the time, and that blows all the calories reading out of proportion, as they surely are calculated based on weight. If the app got access to the Health app, then ALL your calories reading are unreal! There are some funny things are going on. Since synchronised between iPad and iPhone my weight jumped to 200kg, but now got even to about 2000kg. Burnt calories the same about 8000cal, impressive. There is somewhere a sync problem between devices (via your server), or/and looping data when exchanging with iPhone Health resources. Would you like to take a look?
I love the app but unfortunately the bar scanner doesn’t seem to work in Australia
The Exercise cannot be edited and beware that although you may choose half an hour of an Activity, the Activity will show the full hour. That said, it’s not difficult adding a new Exercise in timed increments that best suit you. If you are on your own the bed changing may take 15 minutes, however, if you’ve a family of 4 then that Activity is going to take far longer than 1 bed. I’m happy with it although I wish there were foods more to Australia’s supermarket stocks & not the US. And again, although it’s easy enough to ‘Add’ those foods it does become, at times, a bit of a hit-and-miss. In Oz we often have a far wider selection of Apples, for instance. Plus it’s a pain entering every single piece of Aussie foods. I do feel this App relies heavily on the User to ‘add’ rather than being researched and added by the App owner/s or Developers. A little fine tuning is what’s required.
So much more you could measure. The Apple Health app supports so much and you use so little.
I would love to see more accurate proteins and fresh veggies listed. I wanted to put in grilled organic chicken tenders without breading and it doesn’t exist. I also find that you don’t have a saved section for meals. Only repeat meals on certain days. I don’t know which day I’m eating the same thing again.
So far so good, I downloaded 3 different apps to see which one would be the best for me. This one was the easiest an best to understand for me. Thank you I’m gonna do my best at getting my weight off. Wish me luck... my short term goal is to lose 25 pounds by June! 😉 04/15/2019 I just wanted to add that the more I use this the more I love it. It keeps me on track and I don’t mind watching my calories. I will eventually get the Gold
I’m only using the free version but I like it. It’s very easy to learn and lets you set your own goals or simply enter your weight loss desires and it will set goals for you. I did find that the scanner cannot find many products, but to be fair I live in Central Europe so perhaps it does better with American packages. But to be completely upfront, I do have a different app that can scan many of the packages here so it is a downfall with this app. Another downfall is the “my recipes” portion of the app. Most people cook for families so I entered the entire recipe as I cooked it but then I wasn’t able to split that into servings. I couldn’t even say that I ate a quarter of the recipe, it was either the entire recipe or nothing. I wish that feature were added. But overall, great app, I will continue to use it.
I scan the labels, put in my serving size and it doesn’t accurately track my sodium intake at all. I am so frustrated and disappointed by this. No matter what I put in, the app tells me I’ve only had 1.3mg of sodium, which is completely inaccurate. If the app is going to say that it is tracking it, then it needs to track it and not mislead me. The only thing is seems to actually track is calorie intake. However, at this stage I’m not convinced that the calories are accurate either. If it isn’t able to calculate the sodium correctly how do I know it’s tracking the calories correctly. Or anything else. I am just super frustrated by this. Please fix this!
The user interface is so much better than my fitness pal, but my fitness pal has a much more extensive food internal database. I find myself going to my fitness pal just to see how many calories are in an item and then coming back to MyPlate to enter it. Restaurant foods especially are needed.
So far I am definitely loving this app. I haven’t been using it very long. I love the fact that it’s easier to use than other ones I have used. Enjoy that there are recipes for you to make. I also love that you don’t have to focus on everything such as sodium, sugar and carbohydrates. You can just focus on calories if that’s what you are tracking.
Update- I upgraded this to 3 stars because the developer was good enough to email me and give me some tips on using the bar scanning feature better. They also told me that some of my complaints are addressed in the web version or by upgrading. $3.75 or $9.99/month is more than I am willing to pay on a monthly basis, but I appreciate how long it takes to program and develop so they have to make money somehow. I’m just used to paying annually for my app upgrades. I will check out the recipe portioning on the web version. Thank you for your suggestions LIVESTRONG. You get an A for support. I’ve only used this for a week but so far it has been very time consuming and frustrating. I love that it syncs to my Apple Watch to track activity. That’s the reason I am using this and not another app. But I hate how quirky everything about tracking food is: 1. The scanner is sooooo much worse that the one I used with “my fitness pal”. It takes me several minutes to get a scan and if the barcode is on a bottle or isn’t perfectly rectangular, it doesn’t scan. 2. When I have to manually enter a food, I can’t put in things like sodium or grams of sugar etc. 3. When I put in a food(recipe) that has multiple ingredients that has x servings, I can’t pick one serving when using my iphone7. 4. Apparently the android version has the feature I need in #3 above. Is it really that difficult to make the iPhone version the same as the android- or do your programmers not talk to each other(like Microsoft and Apple)? 5. I thought I found a solution to #3 by logging into the online version from my phone, but the recipes section just gives me recipes- doesn’t allow me to enter my own recipes. 6. And when I use the online version from my iPhone 7, selecting an option highlights everything and always takes me back to “recipes”. Maybe I need to look for another app. This one is definitely NOT user friendly, although I do like the community button. Everyone has responded immediately and they are all trying to help. Thank you community.
Despite random irritating ads, they still ask you to pay for useful features
This is such a great app if you are trying to lose weight or trying to get fit or even to just try keep track of what your eating. Must get. I highly recommend!
Fantastic!couldnt fault it!
I have paid for another app to record food intake etc. And this free app is way better. All the foods are on the list very little missing and really easy to use .
Your recent update completely messed up all my history on the up. Weight entries and exercises entries changed for last 2 months. Bring back all my previous data!!! Won't recommend this app if it can do this!
It's a lovely app.
Have this app for about a year.. I actually think it helps more than exercise because you auto calculate calories from food before you eat. And if you manage the daily target weight comes off.... It works
Great app, really useful tool in weight loss control. Use it don't abuse it, log everything to give you a picture of where you are going wrong or right! The associated water app is brilliant as most of us don't drink enough water. Do it!!
Great way to keep me on track
Really loving this App, definitely putting me back on track with my eating habits. The only reason I am minus 1* is because of like to be able to change measurements and weight to European counters instead of having to convert everything but even still, this is the best/easiest app I've found to do the job that I've been looking for without the crazy costs of a PT
