Not working. All books stuck in rendering. If you are looking for actual books to read, don’t bother with this app. Any books are always stuck in the “please wait while the book is being rendered”.

Update won't let me read books. Since this app updated and added a "much better reader" it endlessly renders the books. It says 20 seconds to 2 minutes. My experience has been that it never stops rendering. Maybe it's my phone but this app worked on my older phone and the reader was fine. Please fix this.

Deleted. I will add you add you back when you fix this app, have you ever heard the this before, if it isn’t broken don’t fix, well y’all fixed it now it’s broke, it was working just fine for now it isn’t, please fix it.

There is no equal. This app is as close to perfection as you can get. Is there maybe a few bugs that could be addressed, sure as with any other app. However it is the best of the best. All the classics you can ask for in one place and an easy to use interface to read them with if your a reader this app is for you. Enjoy

Books. My review is exactly like the first one. First, it comes blank, then it tells me to wait 20 seconds to 2 minutes to rerender a book. It just continues to go round and round. I was reading The Three Musketeers at about the middle. No that's gone. All the books I had downloaded are gone. Please help fix this problem. The app now opens on my iPad I haven't tried the phone yet.

lost everything. will not finish loading or starting up on my new ipod touch. so I’ve lost all the books in my collection, everything I’ve read along with all my highlights, bookmarks and notes. Developer website is gone.

App doesn’t download books or audiobooks. When you try to download, it disappears. There is nothing in the library! And the developer website has a 404 error.

Awesome books. There is a lot of books to choose from, including the classics like the wizard of oz and Alice in wonderland! I enjoy reading on the go for free! 📚📚📚👍👌😊

Does not download books so you can read them. I downloaded two books to read and when I go to read them it tells me to please wait for the book to render. It never renders so you can’t read the books you download. Do not download this app it’s a waste of time.

It never stops rendering--unusable.. I upgraded to the latest version of iPhone software, but this app won't let me read a book because it says it is rendering a new format of my book. It never completes the rendering. I deleted this app.

Do not download. This used to be a great app, but after a year, I still cannot access any of the free or paid content (I paid extra for the audio books). This should be removed from the App Store.

Almost perfection. It takes forever to load half the time it takes over 5 minutes to load then again it could just be my phone I will never know

So THIS is an "update"?!. Had "Free Books" for a few years and it worked great. Then, a week or so ago I look to read something and the damned app won't open. SO, I go to the App store and find that there's a "new" Free Books app, meaning I no longer have ANY books on my phone, and have to download this "new" version--and RE-download all of the books lost, when the developers abandoned the previous version. This "new" version won't allow me to read ANY damned thing, because nothing will open.

Normally I love this app but.... Months later, still not fixed. The developer NEVER RESPONDS to queries or complaints. Do not download this app. A week later... still not opening any books. Still rendering into new format. Something is wrong. Please fix it. Since its last update, it tells me on opening that it has to render all the books I have downloaded in its new and awesome format, but it never STOPS rendering. It claims each book takes from 20 seconds to 2 minutes, but it's been going for hours. I don't have that many books in my download library. Please fix it, developer. And while you're at it, please fix the App Support link next to the Write a Review button. I get a File Not Found message.

It isn’t downloading the books. This app isn’t downloading any of the books. It is saying wait 20 seconds to 2 minutes. Very frustrating!

Great app!. It had been a while since I had read a book on my phone, and it wouldn't open. I easily fixed that by deleting and downloading again. I like the app so much I got the upgrade with no ads. It just might wean me from hard copy books. Thanks for a great app!

Outrageous. Who's ideas was this last update that ruined the app? Its rendering every book forever, can't read anything. Disgrace. Will remain 1 star until you fix obviously. Right now 1 is too high since it's not usable

I do not like it. So first I could not find Emmy books I like so when I finish found things that looked cool I would try them. This is the problem the books tack forever to load and this is with not just one book but all of the books I tried and I tried a lot. It said that it could tack up tack up to tow mins to load and I counted it took way more than two mins it took so long that I could not enveloped wait that long and I have a good phone.

No new updates. This app hasnt been updated in a very long time, at least 5 years. Books will not download or open and the email feature doesn’t work. This was once a really great app I enjoyed many great reads from and would love for it to make a comeback.

Wish they would deliver what they say. The new reader never loads the books. You en up just waiting to cycle through. I have the latest iPhone and there is no reason why the books shouldn’t load. There is no attempt to fix or respond to inquiries. A waste of money.

Good but devastating when it crashes. Like this app. But when it has an issue, it's a big one. I bookmarked my pages. But it failed to start, just spinning, forever. Tried restarting, both app and phone. I could only uninstall it, losing not just the bookmarks but the books too. This really hurts my review. 4/5 stars otherwise.

The so-called update has broken this app.. I previously rated this as a five star app. Great book selection, however, the absolute failure of an update has rendered this app utterly useless. The “download” never downloads. The message states the book will download within 2 minutes, however, no book EVER completes downloading...the prompt just keeps spinning eternally and drains your phone battery. What a shame, as this app was used on a regular basis. It is now unusable.

Books won’t download. This app is terrible! The books are not downloading at all, even after waiting for weeks for them to download. I even tried deleting the app and starting it again. It’s sad, I really wanted this app to work.

Rendering blah blah blah. Rendering is supposed to take 20 seconds to two minutes. I waited for hours and hours (even overnight) for it to complete. Never once I get a story (any story) to read. I guess this app “went out of business” without notice because the app support blocks complaints indefinitely. If this is true, this app must be removed from the App Store!

Love it! One thing...... I love this app. I would totally recommend it. Only a few things. 1. There's not very recent books. 2. You can't download books without wifi. 3. The audiobooks aren't free. If these things are fixed I would give it 5 stars.

Broken App. The app doesn't start anymore. There's just a spinning loading wheel that spins forever, and it never opens. It's been a broken app for over a month now. All of my downloaded books with highlighted portions are lost. Used to be a great app. Destroyed by a major bug, which is not being fixed.

Never fixes perpetual "downloading" of one book. Ever since updated to supposed better reading app. With prior reader was great. MANY have complained re this but never any reply or apparent attempt to fix this. You click to download a book and it is stuck in downloading screen, never completes it.

WORST APP EVER🤬. I have had this stupid app for months. Library at your fingertips. I really enjoy this app and the access to the variety of literature from classics to pulp fiction. Everyone should have it.

It doesn’t work. This idiotic thing doesn't work! Its been downloading for 24 hours , 1 book , the 1st book! Im gonna call applecare and have them refund me money. Maybe if everyone does that they’ll do something about there product. Seems to be the only way to get people to respond. .

This is a great app!. There are so many great books to choose from, and they are so easily chosen. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking for a classic or just to have an app to pass free time.

Do not get this app. I don’t know what’s going on but recently when you try to download a book, you get stuck in a “rendering” ( guess that would be “update” to the rest of us) process that never ends. The only way to end this rendering is to delete the app. So good by to what used to be a good app. Too bad

Big Disappointment. This app was great when I first loaded it. Since the latest update it no longer works. Tried deleting and reloading, to no avail. It no longer renders the books selected. The app just gets caught in an endless rendering screen before timing out. USELESS!!!

Hate it!!!😡. It took exactly 23 minuets to render 7 of my books! Then a week later I had to re-render when it says it is a one time thing but happens on a regular basis!!!!!! I don’t want to wait 1:09 minuets just to read my book!

Was great; now completely busted.. Used to be fine for public domain classics -- great, even. But now it refuses to open at all. You just get a spinning water wheel. It's been this way for many months despite the complaints of many users. So, apparently, it is no longer supported. Too bad, but it's on to other reading apps now. Bye.

Fabulous app for traveling. This is the perfect app if you are travelling, love reading and haven't got the space for ten books in you bag! You can download as you go when people recommend books as well as have back-ups to suit your mood or for when you finish your book. No more boring trains or buses!

The use of this app is a privilege.. Not an app worth displaying ignorance to, as of its great introductory establishment towards the broader world of books seldom tread upon in such modern times. Classics or other such old texts are forsaken of in a sidetracked path towards notability or if not that the books quality and value has risen into the notability that many other books thrive for but sadly cannot receive and so this app freely supplies us with both these varieties which can be freely downloaded at any time wished from a vast collection of texts which are usually, outside the use of this app, costly and so therefore the use of this app is a privilege.

Fantastic & audio books are great to!. You can go wrong with this fantastic collection of books, with easy controls and the Audio books are just great! Great Work guy and looking forward to more titles being put Audio books! Endless hours of reading and when your tired just switch to audio mode to keep enjoying the books!

TimeTraveller. It takes you back to the time when you used to read books as a kid. Much easier to read than a real book and always in your pocket. Love it

Rendering problems. Using this app on my phone is fine. However trying to use this on my iPad mini is quite an issue. A downloading books is fine but when I try to open it a rendering msg comes up and freezes the app. I have reinstalled it a few times and this does not resolve the problem. Having said that the Dropbox feature works fine on both devices.

Nothing rendered, nothing read. Uploaded & updated to a new device. Not a single book can be read because of ‘a fantastic new renderer’ that takes ‘between 20 seconds and 2 minutes’ even though I waited 20mins!

The Art of War. Not only is this one of the best translations of this book but it also has a great introduction. But the fruit for the sideboard is I can carry it with me on my phone. If I ever have to wait I have a selection of incredible books on my phone I can read. No wasted time & I din't lose my books because I leave them somewhere. Ric Batner

Pretty good. For the price, this is a pretty good app. Does what I want it to do. I can't control the quality of the readers in the audiobooks but it is a volunteer service and I appreciate their time and effort. Some of the readers are excellent. Keep up the good work Librivox.

Readers rejoice!. Has all the classics which are classics for a reason, they are the best of the best and this app has them all. Just terrific if you want to catch up on the greats in literature. A must-have for any avid reader. 10/10!

Well adapted to the iPhone, have no trouble reading the text, am enjoying reading books I may never have bought and wish hadn't paid for some that I did.... New Renderer? You broke it!. A once good app, now not a single book can be enjoyed because the ‘new renderer’ does nothing. A waste.

All present but not all their works.. The selection is a broad one of the classics. Many writers are included but not necessarily the title you may be looking for. The app is easy to use and convenient. Changing the font size is very handy too.

Nerdgasm!. Oh my sweet booking lord! I adore this app to the high heavens and all the way down to satans lair! It's super easy to use, has the most amazing, fabulous, oh my cake, books available and the text clarity is most pleasing. Do the app!

Works fine now. After the last upgrade I couldn't download anything. So I reinstalled it and it works fine. If you want more recent books, buy them for your kindle. This app is free - even the upgrade is only around the price of a coffee. Yet here is free and convenient access to timeless classics, which will take more than a lifetime to read!

War of the Worlds. This book has been the subject of two films and a music collection. The original story is just brilliant. The language conveys a message of hopelessness in the face of overwhelming odds. Still a great read.

FreeBooks app. What's not to love? I've read some fantastic old books I would never have read otherwise.

Reuniting with old friends. With this easy to use ap I have downloaded many of my favourite old books --- I can now read Chaucer or Poe or Agatha Christie on my iPhone while riding the train to work.

Wonderful. Reading the classics reveals what a heritage of language we have. Even the "porn" (FannyHill) is of a reading level NEVER found in today's lit. Congrats on a superb app. I'm now a long time Asian dweller and I so appreciate my inexhaustible classics library. It makes my iPhone so much more valuable.

Hmmm.... This app used to work really well for me, however lately I have been having great troubles - the app freezes and I have to restart a couple times, and then my page is lost... If this is fixed, I would recommend this app to anyone as previously I haven't had any problems, and it's free! As it stands at the moment it needs some work :-)

What is not to like?. Seriously.....it is so easy to forget how incredible it is, with so many applications out there that are so cheap (or free) and contain so much information, or do such amazing things. I still love to buy and read 'real' books, but how can one complain about having access to thousands of public domain books for less than the price of a flat white right there on your phone...ready to dive into. Incredible! OK, enough time spent reviewing....I'm getting back to my reading!

Good. The download process better add a pause button, as it's hard to control the downloading process , the rest functions are great, I do enjoy the audio books, it takes ages to download from the other site!

Fix the bugs!. This used to be my favourite app until 2 weeks ago. I can't download books anymore. It keeps telling me I have a wifi error. I don't. I've tried reinstalling it. It didnt fix it.

Use to work. This app use to work, I loved it now it says rendering and nothing happens. Fix this problem and I would like to download it again. I would avoid this app until it gets an update.

What happened - are you even a working app?. Used to enjoy reading classics on here- now I am suffering same fate as everyone else- the promise of an updated great app -and then books that don't "render" whatever that is, and don't ever become available to read. It insists I give it a star rating in order to post review- it actually deserves 0 stars as it is non- existent and sucks up your time trying to get it to work. SAD - BIGLY

Great app!. I love the app. I use it daily, there is plenty of content, which is easy to navigate and search through. My complaints would be in the content, some books do not have chapters which is changing, and more book summaries and synopses would be helpful. Fantastic!

Rendering books. Once this program was updated it won't render the books anymore it says rendering but nothing happens can't read any books.

Couldnt even read a book. You can wait till your kids have kids and this app would still be rendering a 17 page book. Don’t bother with this app download a different app by a similar name. Lol if you read the reviews this app never worked, 2 years ago and now. How is it even still up?

As perfect as it can get. The app is very intuitive. It offers a large selection of books and audio books for free. It is a delightful book reading experience. It covers almost every taste there is out there ranging from classic to drama and more. I have tried a slew of similar apps and I dare to say it is the best in the market. I highly recommend it.

Review. Only old books. I thought there would be new ones that people actually read. I downloaded one book and it has been loading to no avail for two hours so far. I cannot seem to find any audio book apps that have books from this century.

Still doesn't work. I was so excited for an update because I miss this app. It hasn't worked in a long one on my 4S. It gets to the first wooden background and just continues to load. I was in the middle of books that I had to stop because it stopped working. It was one of the best apps and if it was working again id change this to 5 stars instantly

One BIG problem. The app was working great for me until one day I open it up only to hear extremely loud music that I could not stop. I recognize this song from a beer commercial so I assumed that it was from an ad. When I searched the different pages to find this ad I could not. I closed the app and the music continued to play I real closed the ad and when I opened it the music still continued to play! I do not mind ads I just wish there was a way that I could turn their sound off or at least turn it down so I am not startled out of my wits by it.

Not working. I use the old version on my iPhone 5. This new one does NOT work on iPhone8. Time to charge my old phone.

Books not rendering. I had this app a couple years ago and I loved it, but none of my books will render. Bummer too!

Use to be great now broken. DEC 2018 on iphone 7 ios 12. Message says new telease require rerendering of books. It just hangs up never completing the rendering process. Can not read any books

Poor app. Used to be great now just junk. After two hours still book rendering. Fix it soon or I won't be back.

This app. This app does not work! It never renders and never opens any books! Very disappointing as it used to be great!

Free Books is wonderful, BUT.... Gr8 app when it works. Sorry the developer must be in some tough times to not be able to get it functioning like it used to. Won’t get past the buggy “rendering” loop.

Does not work. The app keeps saying that it is rendering ever since I updated the app. Please fix the app so that I can be able to read a childhood favorite book through the app.

Used to be great. Used be a fantastic app. Now says that it must render a book, every time I open it. Of course it never completes so it is now 100% useless

Lost dictionary. I used to like this app very much; however, now I only get ads. I wasn't able to get to the book. Too bad!

Misleading. Waste of time more of Apple trying to rope you in asserting "free" then tell you to pay for the free book. Apple has become a third rate scam artist. I'm done with Apple.

Needs to be worked on.. “Please wait while book is being rendered for the past 24hours”. I can’t even read a book.

Won't launch. Some bug is preventing it from launching. Used to work for me, but now it shows me the backdrop and a spinning wheel of hope. I hope they fix it soon as I'm about to look elsewhere.

Non-functioning. Ever since the app was updated to use the new renderer, books cannot be viewed. As such, the app does not function whatsoever. Very disappointing.

Books on iPhone 7. This app worked great on my iPhone 6. It gets stuck "rendering" on my new 7. Very annoying!

Irked. Developers have never fixed the downloading problem and I so thoroughly enjoyed this app. So saddened nothing has been done to satisfy the users of the app. Do not use it!!

App doesn’t work. Download the App “My Books”. It is is the more recent version of Books

Stuck!. This does NOT WORK! It displays books and appears to download them ok but I can't read them because it sticks in a rendering mode.

Won’t accept email.. It won’t accept my email to send the download to a computer. Do I need a owners manual for this app to work or what?

App broken. App is broken in iOS 10. All titles give "rendering" forever. Unusable.

Great app. Nice selection of older books

Lousy App. This app is riddled with ads. Don't waste your time unless you enjoy full screen ads. It is about the only thing that works in this app.

App failed. Just downloaded AGAIN. It will not complete rendering any book.
