Hoopla: Your Library Anywhere Comments & Reviews 2026

Love the selection of books, but can’t get it to work. I love the selection of books available, especially the audio books. However, I have tried for a week straight to borrow a book, and I keep getting the same message, “The collective daily borrow limit set by your library has been reached and will reset at midnight. Please browse and add titles to your favorites so you can easily access them after midnight”. Ok, so I did that. I have even tried on multiple nights to borrow after midnight. Same message. I’ve tried at 6am, and so on… still the same message. I called my library to ask them if they need to reset something on their end, or if something was up with my library card (there isn’t anything), everything should be working, except it’s not. My library recommended a different app to use, and while I appreciate their suggestion, I’m disappointed because the selection isn’t as great as Hoopla. Unfortunately, Hoopla seems to think the library needs to reset something, and the library says they’ve updated everything, and there’s no way every single borrower is jumping on right at the stroke of midnight to borrow books. It’s ridiculous! And this used to be such a reliable app. I’m disappointed for sure.

It Works so well for Me. I had to jump through a few hoops but I got it to work. I even found a book online that I really wanted to read but was always reluctant to buy it. Fortunately, that book was available to listen to for free which was a real joy considering there are so many words use I could not pronounce much less understand. But hearing the book being read was a much better experience. And, it is not just another unread book on my bookshelf. Kudos to the reading app and those who actually do the reading. It makes some of the most difficult language easier to understand being read to me. There were so many words I didn’t know and pronounce were better understood in context when the whole sentence was spoken. This is a very rich tool for me when I find reading the book much more difficult than hearing the words being spoken to me. I really appreciate this tool that lets me hear what I would have struggled to complete by reading. It gives better meaning to “Thanks for Listening”.

Best way to borrow audio and ebooks from library. This is a useful and simple way to borrow digital media from your local library in the comfort of your own home (my library system allows 10 titles per month). True, selections available are not the latest releases but I'm enjoying catching up with many classic books on audio recordings while gardening, driving and other chores. I agree with other reviewers that chapter markers would be helpful, and I will keep back one star for that and for frequent delays I experience when returning to the app after switching apps or pausing. I'm very impressed with the quality of the readers in the audiobooks I've borrowed so far (about a dozen). I was also happy that when 1 book was returned after its 21-day period was over, the app retained my place in the 35-hour recording. For a free app that allows access to books, music, and movies with just my library card -- this is a great service. Kudos and thanks to the developers!

Wish I Could Love It. I use this app primarily for ebooks. That all titles are free (via local library membership)and easily downloaded is a great benefit. However, the reader app leaves much to be desired. Constantly, I find that I cannot multitask on my iPad without losing my place. I have to relaunch the app, reselect the book, and hit resume reading, only to find that the app has gone back to a seemingly random location. There are no page numbers or location identifiers. So, even if there were a “go-to” function, I wouldn’t have anything to enter. I have had to resort to constantly entering bookmarks and then selecting the latest one to get back to where I was. A recent revision has overcome a flaw in the text readability; so this is no longer a problem. Have only used audiobooks aspect one time a couple months ago and found that file downloaded quickly, but here also, we would lose our place for no apparent reason and have to hunt for where we left off. In summary, this is an app with great potential, but is no Kindle Reader.

Love this app. I have been using Hoopla for a little over two years now, to listen to audio books. In the beginning, it was frustrating, because the stories would quit once you got to the end of a streamed part. As time passed, they kept making updates to the sight, which cured the interruptions. Then they added more content to stream, besides the audio books, movies and music. I still mostly use the audio book feature. My son and I enjoy listening. The only thing I hope they consider changing is to decrease the price of the service that they charge libraries. I am lucky that the township that I work for lets school district employees have a library card. The library system in the community that I live in decided that Hoopla was too expensive for the amount of people that actually use the service and discontinued Hoopla. This was much to the disappointment and frustration of the patrons who use it. They kept limiting the number of collective borrows allowed to 4 in a month. Then, even that became too expensive so they made the decision not to carry it any longer. They suggested to the patrons to use Libby instead. I kept pointing out that you have to wait up to 6 months to listen to a new or requested book. I wonder now how long it will be before the my work library system has to cut it as well. Until then, I will continue to let my students and their families know what Hoopla is and how to get it from the library.

Loses my place when I close the app. I have to use this because my old library account with a library that uses Overdrive expired, which is the only reason I bother reviewing this. My place in ebooks and audiobooks keeps resetting every time I close the app out and I have to actually place a bookmark to mark the spot. I don't think this is supposed to happen. And it doesn't ever in overdrive. Also the ebook format is irritating. I want to be able to see the time, cell service, and battery percentage at the top of the screen. Maybe they could switch out the unnecessarily wide band at the bottom reserved for the 'percentage left' or whatever, make that smaller, and let us see the top indicators on phones. And the way the pages flip in the ebooks is jerky and annoying sometimes. But really my biggest beef with Hoopla is losing my place in ebooks/audiobooks and not showing the time/battery percentage/cell service indicators at the top of the screen when reading an ebook. I need to know what time it is when I am reading because I like to read during my lunch break at work and I don't want to have to set an alarm or check my watch every few seconds to make sure I am staying within the allotted time. And I raise these issues knowing full well they could fix them because Overdrive has everything down perfectly basically. I wish my current library used their platform. Sad times.

Not very responsive anymore. I used to love this app. And I still think it’s a wonderful idea. It gives people the opportunity to borrow books through their library without having to leave their home and go to the library. And it gives you more choices that might otherwise not be at the local library. That being said this app isn’t as responsive as it use to be. It is horribly glitchy lately. Whatever the developers did when they updated this app it wasn’t for the better. It kicks you out whenever you are looking though book titles. Starts you back at the beginning. And isn’t very touch responsive. Please fix this app. Update it for the better this time not for the worse as it is now. It needs to be better. And also allow you to play a sample before borrowing an audiobook. There is so much you can do to make this app better. I only hope you take the opportunity to do so. Also needs to have a better way of telling how many titles you borrowed. A counter so you know how many you have left to borrow. And allowing to borrow more would be nice like 10 a month. Especially with audiobook and movies. The bonus borrow is a nice touch I hope that continues.

Please convince my library to allow more monthly Hoopla borrows!. I love Hoopla, even more than my library. When my library is missing books or audiobooks in a series, I can almost always find those at Hoopla, which is awesome! My library severely limits the lifetime number of books I can request (to 5!) so it makes it unreasonable for me to request books missing from a series when I can find them at Hoopla. However, now my library has severely limited our number of monthly borrows from Hoopla. I’m hoping Hoopla can help with this and convince libraries to make that number much higher, like it used to be. I want to be able to read missing books/audiobooks and also read other series that my library doesn’t have but Hoopla does have, but this is hard to do when my library only allows 4 monthly borrows from Hoopla. I loved when Hoopla recently (in February) offered bonus borrows that didn’t count against the few that our library allows. I have used my borrows since then to complete series that I began during the February bonus borrows. Thank you, and I hope you bring this feature back again!

Glitchiness dropped the rating. Please note that I have only used this app for reading e-books, so my rating is based on that. This app is fussy when it comes to turning the page. If you don’t do it just right, you either end up several pages ahead of where you were, or it freezes and crashes. I also don’t like that you can’t adjust the screen brightness. I read in bed a lot, and even using the low light filter on my iPad doesn’t dim things enough. I’ve used the gray background color, but it does not extend the full width of the screen, so there’s an annoying white frame around the gray page. (There is a white-on-black setting, but that bothers my eyes.) The search feature is okay, but it would be helpful if you could filter by language; some of the books I read have French, Italian or German translations, and it’s a pain to have to slog through those. Also, searching by author is somewhat hit or miss. With all the complaints, why do I still give this four stars? Because I can read books by some of my favorite authors, without having to purchase their books. So it’s worth that.

Barrow Audiobooks. I understand that you’re allowed to check out so many per month, but I don’t understand why you can’t check out other books when I have return them with in a day to a week at the most. But I’m not allowed to check out any other audiobooks when I don’t even have any because I was responsible In returning them for other people to listen to. It’s like your punished for returning what you downloaded way before the return date. And with not a single audiobook waiting for me to listen to on my account, I’m still not able to download any. So being a truck driver and having the time to listen daily and nightly I’m unable to listen or download. I know before audiobooks I was able to take a certain amount and when I returned them I was able to take more, just as long as I returned them. Now with the automatic download and with them being able to take them back at there time I’m having a hard time understanding returning before the due date and not allowed to check out any other, and with all this technology they can’t see that but the old time returning work better.

LOVE this app! Would recommend, but one small thing.... Ok! First things first. I love this app! Highly recommend! Has most of the Warrior cats series. Love it. Can read on or offline. There's a kids mode. One small problem. Why can't you return the books when you're done with them? In a real library, you're given a specific amount of time to finish and return or renew a book. Here however, you can only borrow five books, and they will only automatically return at the end of each month. I am a fairly fast reader, so this frustrates me. I love actual libraries because you can return the books anywhere in the time range given, and check out other books. But then you could ruin the book, lose it, and then you have to either buy a new book and donate it, or pay a fine. Digital books are easy to use and you don't need to remember or bookmark a page. Although I would like some more freedom where this is concerned, I have learned to live with it. But I still don't like it. Anyone else who can relate? Also, any other Warriors fans? ~Dapplefrost

Love and hate relationship. So I Love hoopla, specifically the audiobooks. A large selection of free e-books, audiobooks, and movies/tv shows. However you have limited borrows. The way hoopla makes money is your local library pays for the content on hoopla and each borrow we make costs them money (this is the way I understand it). So for me I can only borrow 6 titles a month. So let’s say there is a tv show on hoopla, each episode costs one borrow. So you borrow 4 and watch them. Then you borrow a comic books and read that. After that you borrow and listen to a audiobook. That’s all your borrows gone in one day(depending on your library’s limit). I think hoopla is missing out on a payday here. So I was thinking that after we pass our borrows for the month we pay a fee for additional borrows. Or a recurring payment for unlimited borrows. Sorry this is kinda long but I’ve been think about this for awhile. Thanks for reading! Edit: oops I forgot something lol. Maybe think about adding like you have 10 mins after you borrow a title to return it to get your borrow back because it’s super frustrating then you borrow the wrong thing and wasted your borrow

Favorite library app out there. There are so many options, I like a lot of more obscure things so I usually have a difficult time finding what i’m looking for with library apps, but hoopla has pleasantly surprised me many times with what’s available! along with ebooks there are also audiobooks, comics, movies, etc. it’s such a diverse selection depending on what you’re in the mood for. I love the favorites option that also automatically sorts what you favorite by media type, it’s so convenient, helpful, and organized. There’re also no long or unknown wait times before being able to check out a book, so you can borrow them when you know you’re not busy and have the time to actually read it, and maybe check out something else if you’re really not liking it. the only criticism I have of the app is it can be buggy and crash when searching up or browsing titles. I’ve never experienced a crash when actually reading though, so it’s not a major complaint

Get hoopla now!. I have always like audio books. I am a young girl, and I am dyslexic. I have always struggled with reading despite my best efforts. I eventually found out about audiobooks, and convinced my parents to get me a radio so that I could listen to the cds at the library. It helped so much, and I started making progress with my reading and reading comprehension. However, a radio would always lose my spot when I unplugged it to bring around the house with me, and I eventually ran out of books I liked to listen to. I can still recite most of the lines from Harry Potter from how often I listened to them. Anyways, one day, I was at the library, and I say a sing for hoopla. It was exactly what I needed. I downloaded it onto my phone, and fell in love with it. Hoopla’s free and easy to use. I listen to hoopla daily, and it’s a perfect way to read books while getting dressed, driving, or even just so you can follow along. You can even adjust the speed of the book depending on your reading level. If you are looking to have this for a child, you can put restrictions on. Since I got hoopla, I have also gotten Overdrive. I am so happy to have a site that has free audiobooks, and doesn’t even require WiFi.😁

Great…BUT??. I read a lot of different authors, I’ve never tried any of the audiobooks, to me a book is all about being able to see and read the words not having some one else read it to me, and this app has started making its way towards more audiobooks than actual Ebooks and that saddens me. But on the other hand I’m also able to come on to Hoopla and find many of my Ebooks that aren’t on the actual Overdrive App, or what is now the Libby App and that makes me very happy, I may start a series on Libby but am unable to finish it on there because for some reason they just have the very first Ebook of that series but then I’m able to finish the series here on Hoopla. But I have many issues with the borrowing of books, it will tell me I’ve met my download quota for the day and need to come back at MIDNIGHT to try again, but I’ve not downloaded anything from Hoopla that day meaning that was going to be my first book, smh. But all in all I think it’s a really great reading APP and have been using it for years as I read a lot. I will continue to use it Hoopla as long as it’s made available…

Excellent resource!. We are a reading family and use Hoopla daily. Very happy with our library’s partnership with Hoopla to offer excellent selection of audiobooks and other media. I only have one bone to pick with the latest version. When I do a search and look through results or browse through genres, I should be able to click a title and read the description and info, and then go back to where I left off. Instead, I could be browsing through, say, the entire genre of fiction audiobooks (which is huge) to make it to the S titles, find something interesting looking and click on it, decide it’s not for me and go back, only to find that it doesn’t hold my spot but refreshes and goes all the way back to the beginning. This is so frustrating! Please consider fixing this! It didn’t used to be this way! I love browsing Hoopla and adding books to my favorites to read later! Would also love if Hoopla added the ability to create “shelves” and separate favorites into different categories! Thank you for all of your hard work! Hoopla really enriches our reading lives!

The Henna Artist. This was a very enjoyable, albeit long audiobook. I would not cut it because all the details are relevant. Her early life her marriage, her escape, her reinventing herself to be able to create a lucrative business. Her ability to pamper the wealthy women she has as customers, in her quiet submissive fashion is just noteworthy. I do not know how I would have dealt with the overbearing snobby rich women. The ones who could ruin your business with just a few seconds. I loved the gentle care Lakshmi gave the young queen when her son was sent to England at the tender age. Her ability is a gift of compassion. Later when she goes to the Himalayas, what an interesting time. It speaks of her ability and compassion which turns into her next chapter. The young man she “adopts” as her ward, the streetwise imp who is in a way her guardian as well. When her sister shows up totally out of the blue since Lakshmi did not even know Rada existed. (Please excuse the possible errors in spelling names, since the audiobook did not have correct spelling included). All in all, the audiobook was 10 hours, but excellent story, wonderful book. The ending is such that we can add our own final chapter. I know I have!

Used to love this app. I’m not sure if this is a problem with Hoopla or the library’s it works with but using Hoopla has become almost impossible. I used to listen to audiobooks all the time & was very grateful that I could borrow 8 per month as if I were going to my local library & borrowing from them. Then a few months ago I started getting the message “The daily limit has been reached & will reset at midnight”. It turns out that libraries didn’t like so many books being loaned out & set a limit. This means that A) when I’m ready for a book I usually can’t get one because the limit has been reached (turns out there are a lot of us who like to read or listen-who knew?) B) if I want to be sure to get a book I have to get it at midnight because I’ve tried at all hours of the day & the limit gets reached pretty quickly C) if I do manage to borrow books before that daily limit gets hit I tend to want to borrow my monthly limit of 8 & I hoard books. Which is probably why the limit keeps getting reached so quickly. Others are also hoarding. All this to say I’m extremely frustrated & have stopped using a site I used to love & encourage others to use. I hope someone figures out a way to fix this problem. Otherwise I’ll continue staying away & tell others not to bother. Too much frustration.

Very good app. Hoopla is a very useful app and I’ve gotten a lot of books out of it: mostly audiobooks, quite a few ebooks, plus some music and graphic novels. It’s biggest problem is the very limited number of checkouts you have per months; occasionally I’ve run into limits on how many checkouts that my *library* is allowed. Because of this, I use Hoopla after I’ve exhausted all other options because, when ripping through a series of ebooks, it is very frustrating to have to wait for the next month to finish a set. I recall no standout problems with quality (every software can have bad moments) but for some silly reason Hoopla’s audiobook skip-backward function does not work with my vehicle’s sound system controls. It’s a long standing problem and very frustrating when you’ve missed something and, as you’re driving, there is nothing safe or legal to do about it but stop listening. Hoopla is one of five audiobook apps in my phone and it’s the only one with this problem, which suggests it should be a fairly easy fix On the plus side, it has a standout smart Lookup feature. It has the usual dictionaries but also connects into Wikipedia and if it finds a reference it shows a snapshot with pictures right up front. I’ve not noticed whether it’s good at language translations or not but perhaps I’ve not read that type of book yet on Hoopla.

LIBRARY APPS FOR THE AUDIOBOOK WIN!. I found this app when I was doing a deep dive comparison for different audiobook listening apps and almost gave up when it looked like Audible or Spotifys sad credit/15hr listening caps were the only option when WHAM I happened upon a Reddit forum directing people to download Hoopla an app accessibile via your local library. Legit just input your library card information and a plethora of audiobooks were up for checking out. Not to mention 1)the books get returned automatically after 3 weeks 2) if you’re like me and love falling asleep listening to your audiobooks but hate when way too many chapters have been read through while sleeping (aside from your phone batter draining too) you can literally set a timer to how long you want it to keep playing for be it the end of the chapter your currently on or a designated amount of time. 3) If you also share my affinity for logging your reading on your Goodreads App you can see the listed chapters on Hoopla and reference the % of book read on Hoopla to add to your Goodreads progress. 4) There’s a digital bookmark capability, car & activity mode. 5) Most importantly there is no listening cap! It is literally the perfect audiobook app. DOWNLOAD NOW!!!

Too many limitations.. First off I really enjoyed this app and how I can read any books I want. I have read most of the Avatar the last airbender series but I want to read more. That is the problem. I can’t. Only 10 books a month is kind of ridiculous. Especially all the Atla comics are split into three parts! So they each count as a book which is dumb since there only 80 pages each. Also just having a 10 book limitation is dumb since real libraries don’t have that limitation so why should a online library have it? If you can’t change it for free I suggest charging 5-10 dollars for unlimited books a month. So I can at least finish my series and avid book readers can read when ever they want to. Also this app has weird book availability. So your telling me this app has every Atla book series and book but not the series straight in the middle of the plot line. Why is smoke and shadow not in this app? I’m seriously dumbfounded as to why they have every other series but this one. I’m not spending 20 bucks on Apple Books to get this so I guess I’m just gonna have so skip it. By the way its says suggest titles in the settings and it’s says “coming soon” and it’s said that for like a month. So get that fixed. This really great app could be 5 stars if it fixed these three problems.

Problems. I really think I could like this app of hoopla if you would fix a few problems. I use the Libby app and really like it. So I thought I would try hoopla as a second choice to Libby since they’re both related to the library. The first problem is I like to read my books with the two column choice. So when I select that option on hoopla, it duplicates a lot of sentences and paragraphs. And that happens too often for me. Then comes the bookmark, which is laughable. Sometimes the bookmark will take you to where you’re supposed to be and sometimes it won’t. You need to set up your bookmarks like Libby does. So that your bookmark tab is showing the whole time you are reading that page so it reminds you to disable the tab, while you are reading. the way you have it set up is very awkward. Another problem is that when you quit reading for a while during the day, or power down for the day, a lot of times when you go back to read, you have to start from the very beginning, instead of taking you right to your place that you left off. Another situation I ran into , when you go to the area where you read a few paragraphs of what a book is about so you’ll know whether you want to choose that book or not. A lot of the words are running together. Is there no proofreading? like I said, in the beginning, I think I could really like this app of hoopla, but the website itself needs quite a bit of work.

Used to love it a lot. I used to enjoy hoopla a lot and only wished I could check out more than 8 books/audiobooks a month. I even liked it better than Libby because it had more audiobook selections. But lately, I keep having difficulty with it. Sometimes it won’t download or open an audiobook. Today it won’t let me borrow an audiobook even though I have four more books available. I don’t know if it’s because I recently discovered Karen Kingsbury and enjoy listening to her books or what. I even tried to download a different author and it wouldn’t let me. It keeps telling me there’s an error and I can’t borrow more books until tomorrow because the collective daily borrows have been reached. I didn’t even borrow any books today or in almost a week. When I first signed up for hoopla a year ago I borrowed my limit in less than a week when I discovered audiobooks. Last week when I had problems I just deleted the app and reinstalled it but it didn’t work this time. I’m so disappointed because I took the week off to clean for an open house so I have all the time to listen while I clean but I can’t. Leaving later this month on a trip and hopefully can download stuff for the drive and plane ride. I hope they fix the app soon.

Love the app, hope they will take this feedback. The app is easy and intuitive to use. I use it heavily for e-books, movies, and TV shows. I have just one piece of feedback that I hope they will incorporate into future updates: In the case of multi-episode shows such as Ken Burns documentaries, Hoopla does not indicate which episodes I’ve watched and which I haven’t. So in some cases, I have used up part of my monthly borrowing allowance by re-borrowing episodes I have already seen. It would be helpful if they could find a way to indicate episodes already seen by the user. Note: In e-books, footnotes are hyperlinked within the text, which is helpful. Following the link takes you straight to the footnotes page where you can find the relevant footnote. What I didn’t realize was that the “back button” from the footnotes page to take you back to the place in the text from which you jumped to the footnote is the footnote number itself. That should have been obvious to me, but I was all the way through Jane Eyre before I realized that.

Title. Lol tried to make this funny. So I’ve been using hoopla for a while now and I like it a lot but there are some problems. First there are a lot of glitches I’m sure they’ll work themselves out but it sometimes is very annoying when you are looking for an author on your favorites and you can’t find them because of glitching. When loading it can sometimes become blank although I haven’t experienced that to often. My biggest complaint is that I’ve tried to access the content of one or another creator and it will not show me the full collection. It didn’t do this before an certain update that brought some other rather good things so I don’t know if this is just a bug or some other kind of issue but if this was built in I don’t know of an easy way to access the catalog. Having said that if you are looking for an app for library media that you can’t find on overdrive or Libby this does have a different collection depending on what your library has. Would I recommend it yes but don’t expect it to be the best out there it’s still working things out from my perspective.

Getting worse. While on the whole, hoopla is a nice app to have, to easily borrow books from your library, constant glitches make it frustrating to use. Consistently it zonks out-after a couple of pages and especially after the end of a chapter, the app just stops. One has to click done, go back to menu and reopen the book. Updating the app has not helped. I am also not a fan of the 10 books per month limit. I prefer the “five books at a time” limits posed by other digital reader apps like Overdrive and Axis 360. Update: Borrowing e-books and videos is easy. But videos have an extremely short check out time. On the negative side, the book selection tends to be too heavily leaning on the romance/family genre, and most bestselling authors will not be found here. I had previously given this app three stars, but the glitches have become too annoying to use the app. You have to read the book in portrait mode. Landscape is not available. The page will not reorient itself nor can you set it in one mode over another. They updated the app to give you a page turning experience, but after once or twice, you will not be able to proceed to another page. You will need to shut down the app and restart it. Additionally, it will also shut down on its own while you are reading. There are many readers on the market now. I find overdrive and cloud work best with my library. Hoopla—give it a miss.

Good omens. The book moved very slowly and was hard to comprehend could not keep my interest I didn’t even finish the whole book. Would rate it very slow. It was an introductory book and only had about 10 lines in it. Very difficult to review. But I like the boxcar books in general. I would like to inquire why when you have books already downloaded does hoopla not bring them up. I have been so upset that it refuses to bring my audiobooks app where I can select them to continue reading . I would also like to know why kids selections come up and it will not show me adult reading in the audiobooks. Since hoopla is the only out look to get audiobooks through the library anymore, I find it extremely difficult for your site to continually provide access to the audiobooks. It is so annoying to me that the audiobooks will not appear Under the bar road heading. If you can correct these problems it would be amazing and very much appreciate it. C . Petit large audiobook reader. My estimated time presently per day is four hours and 30 minutes.

3.5 Stars. Overall, I love the app and glad that my library offers it. I use it mostly for audiobooks and often find that it has titles I’m looking for that Libby or Kindle Unlimited does not. However I have experienced several difficulties with the app: 1) When listening to an audiobook, if I pause it and then try to play again, it will either play with no sound or remain frozen. I will have to close the app, reopen and try to play again although this does not always solve the problem and will have to close and reopen again and again until it works. 2) Sometimes I will open the app and click to resume my audiobook and it starts the book completely over. If I close and reopen the app, at times it will find my place again but this has not always been the case. 3) When trying to submit a help/question for a book (at the bottom where it says “having trouble with this title?”) I can click that and click one of the issues listed and am able to type what I’m experiencing but don’t see an actual button to submit my request/concern. 4) I wish I could preview an audiobook before using up one of my borrows and disliking the narration or the book.

Good app, so so accessibility features. I like most of the features of this app, but as someone who uses apple’s accessibility features this app’s bad support for them makes me dock it two stars. I rely on Apple’s “Spoken Content” accessibility feature and it is very tedious with this app. While I can use the “speak screen” setting and have words read to me, anything else I am out of luck. For example the page on the screen doesn’t follow the words being read, so the app thinks I’m at the beginning of the chapter, Which means if I have to pause the reading for any reason I have to start the chapter over because I cannot have speak screen start from the middle of a chapter (this is after I have guessed if I found the right page in the chapter to continue since the app doesn’t follow the speaking.) Another issue with this same feature is that once the chapter ends speaking doesn’t continue on to the next chapter, it just stops, but I cannot quickly enable speaking again because the app didn’t flip to the end of the chapter, I have to use the table of contents to flip forward to the next chapter. Fix these major issues and the app would be great.

Problems. Originally I liked the Hoopla app. Now not so much. It seems to be having what I consider insurmountable annoyances. It first started with the app freezing right in the middle of a book. I switched from using the app to read a book to just clicking on read now without using the app. That worked for a while but is now doing the same thing. Very frustrating when you have only so much time to read and then it freezes and you can’t. It isn’t my device at fault either since it happens not only on both tablets I use but also on my phone. I’ve written to them twice with no response about this problem. I was sure they would fix it but no such luck. Also it doesn’t sync between devices. The other library apps like Overdrive will pick up whatever page you’re on when you change devices. Not Hoopla. I’m sorry to say. This means endless scrolling page by page in order to get to your current page. Oh and the latest annoyance is after reading maybe 10 pages a banner pops up and you have to click out of the book, it comes up with the download page and you then have to click on resume in order to keep reading. It’s almost enough to quit using this app. The only reason I come back to it occasionally is they have some books that the other services do not..if you want to try an app that works the way it should try Libby. They’ve got their act together. Merry Christmas one and all. Hope the powers that be read this and fix these basic problems.

Great selection but quirky app. I love the selection of books available. Often books that have very long waits on other library apps are available here. I also love the three week checkout. Unfortunately, the books and audio are quirky. The books do not show page numbers only how Many pages left in the chapters. The audio does not show chapters at all so if you are reading and listening, which I often do, I have to search for a long time to find where I am in the audio after having read a few chapters. I finally gave up reading and listening because I was spending too much time finding my spot. It would be great if the books and audio worked together. Also, the book pages don’t fit great when I read on my iPad because there is a bottom bar showing how many pages left in the chapter. It often covers up the last line on the page and it does not seem to go away. These are minor issues for a free lending service so don’t be deterred by them but it would be excellent if they were fixed! Enjoy reading!

Mostly good. Hoopla was recommended by my public library and I’ve mostly liked it. It’s frustrating that unlike other audiobook apps, there isn’t a way on Hoopla to listen to a preview of a book before borrowing it. So a few times I’ve gone ahead and borrowed but have been disappointed. I’ve sometimes given the book as much as a 20 or 30 minute chance, but a couple times I had to stop much sooner, largely due to the narrator or the production quality. Sometimes, while the book is probably good and the story or characters are appealing, the person chosen to be the narrator is simply bad or inappropriately cast. Sometimes the audio levels are all over the place, varying in volume and quality. I know no audiobook is read all in one recording session, but most manage to maintain consistent levels and some sound like there’s suddenly a different microphone or sound engineer or he narrator was having a bad day. In any case, I wish Hoopla allowed a short preview. The way it is, I have to borrow the book, thereby using up one of my monthly allotment of books and then have returned it within a few minutes because I was disappointed in some way with the book. I’m glad I discovered the option to give the book a rating, but it would also be extremely helpful to be able to write a review. That way I could tell prospective readers which books (and narrators) I really like enjoyed a lot and caution readers about the books (or narrators) I found to be not worth my time.

Love the app but needs some modifications. I waste so much time going into my past borrowed books to see if I already read the books that I’m browsing. It would be nice to have it show that you already borrowed it or make the history searchable. There are a few other quirks that I’d like to see changed but insignificant. Overall, I enjoy that this library app offers a great variety of books - stuff that my other app doesn’t. One additional update that I would love to see is a feature that would allow a short preview before borrowing. I mostly listen to audiobooks- I have a few favorite narrators and would listen to them reading the dictionary but I also waste a bunch of borrows on books that I just can’t listen to because the reader makes the content unbearable. Updated review- Wow…. A prompt response from the app developer. That upped my 3 star to a solid 4 star!!!!! With all of today’s technology , it is nice to see a response to a review or suggestion. I hope they are able to incorporate a way to flag items that have been borrowed previously and get a preview clip of the books. Bravo app developer!

Changing Libraries. It works fine until you want to change your library. The text overlays with the buttons you click and I literally had to put in my card number for my new library seven different times each time I went to the screen because it kept erasing and then I couldn’t scroll down half the time to see the library card # and pin # boxes. Also once I switched it said, “error” that is already had that card but when I logged in and out it still showed my old library but then my new card in settings. What? And I tried looking for a book my new library has but my old once doesn’t and I’m still stuck in the old not in name on the display only but also in terms of what I can borrow. Logged out and uninstalled and reinstalled the app but seriously why the delay? Does the app consist of solos of information that don’t talk well to each other? With overdrive and Libby I can switch between libraries like a breeze. Hoopla is not a UX friendly app when it comes to changing libraries—atm it is glitchy and frustrating.

Great concept, terrible ebook reader. I love being able to borrow ebooks and audiobooks, but this app is painful to use. I am a voracious reader but I seldom have the time to read for hours at a stretch, so I like to sneak in a few minutes here and there throughout the day when I can. And hoopla is TERRIBLE for this purpose. If I close the app mid chapter and open it again, I am randomly sent to the beginning of the chapter, or the beginning of the LAST chapter, or the beginning of the book. If I forget to lock the screen and accidentally rotate it, the same thing happens. This would be annoying regardless, but if you try to use the scrolling feature at the bottom of the screen to jump back to the page you were on, it simply doesn’t work. Similarly you can bookmark a page, but from your bookmarks there is no way to automatically jump to the bookmarked page so you have to manually flip back through the pages to get there. I’m currently reading Snuff by Terry Pratchett which has no chapter divisions so it’s one 700+ page chapter, and anytime I close the app or rotate the screen or let enough time pass, I have to flip back to the page I’m on FROM PAGE ONE. This app makes ebooks less convenient than checking out physical books in a brick and mortar library and carrying then everywhere I go.

Problems with e-books…. As a blind user, I love the audiobooks and never have any problems with them. The e-books, however, are always a problem and it’s getting worse! I use the app on my iPad and iPhone. When you try to use voice over to listen to an e-book, it will give you all kinds of problems. It used to at least let you listen until the last page in the chapter. Now, I pretty much missed the whole chapter because it keeps stopping. Very annoying! Anybody that uses Kindle knows that you simply turn voiceover on, swipe down with two fingers and it will read to you automatically. Hopefully, they can duplicate this technology so that Blind people can enjoy more than just audiobooks. Thank you I am updating this review… They did make some changes where the voiceover reading experience is smoother. However, after each chapter of the book you must stop voiceover and then restart it for the next chapter which is beyond annoying! It would be wonderful if you guys could make a consistently smooth reading experience such as on the Kindle. Thank you

Malfunctioning when checking out books. I have now had four failed attempts to check out a book on hoopla. In all instances I had not checked out any books for a few days, but the app refused to let me check out saying “you have exceeded the amount allowed by your library for the day”. I don’t know whether this is a library problem or hoopla problem but it is very aggravating. I’ve called the library and they say there is nothing they can do. That sort of indicates it must be a hoopla problem. Either way, we need a fix, soon! OK, so the Hoopla app developer did respond to me! That is a pleasant surprise. However, the messaging that comes to the app user still needs to be corrected. The way it is currently worded it makes it sound as though I had exceeded my daily limit. What it needs to clearly state is that all the patrons of the county library have exceeded the daily limit the library buys from Hoopla. That way at least I would know I am not being accused of exceeded my limit when I know I have not done so. As usual, “what we have here is a failure to communicate.” if hoopla will actually correct this problem I will be happy to increase my rating. Overall I don’t have too much trouble with this app especially given the fact that it is free, and it allows me to listen to many more books that I would if I had to purchase them elsewhere.

Worst audiobook app. Hoopla is the most frustrating audiobook app I have used (and I use several). It is much worse than overdrive for several reasons. For some reason it takes forever to download titles, and it downloads all as one big file. Plus sometimes the download doesn’t work and you don’t realize until it’s too late and you’re already on your road trip, etc. overdrive is superior in this regard. It downloads individual files that save faster, plus you can delete them one by one to free up space on your device. On hoopla it is also difficult to navigate between chapters/sections (once again, one huge file for whole book). As far as I know hoopla doesn’t let you listen to a sample of the book before borrowing. The 15 seconds back/forward feature seems to have a multiplicative effect if you hit it several times, which can sometimes send up far backward/forward in the book when really you just wanted to listen to the last minute or so again. Finally, I tried hoopla on another device and on this one, despite downloading titles, it doesn’t let me access them unless I’m logged in... which requires WiFi. For me, this defeats the entire purpose of the app. I hate this app and only use it through my library when I can’t find specific titles on overdrive.

Great selection, dislike the collective daily limit. App gives me this message more often than not- “The collective daily borrow limit set by your library has been reached and will reset at midnight. Please browse and add titles to favorites so you can easily access them after midnight,” despite not having a single item checked out, often times for weeks at a time. I will try to check out a single book here and there (like one every 2 months), but will still receive this message, and it never “resets at midnight” like it says it should. Very frustrating…! Edit: I take back what I said, now understanding that this message I’m receiving (often late at night, when I have time to sit down to read, with young children being a factor in my life) is due to the total limit for daily borrows set by my library, not just for me individually. (It would be like going to the library at 6 PM and being told “sorry other people were here before you to check out all the books they wanted and so you can’t check a single item out”). Though that limit seems to be unfair, and a flawed option to even have available, I do now understand this is not entirely Hoopla’s fallout. That being said, I do really enjoy the app when I can check out a book. There are a lot of selections available compared to other online library apps! Thanks for the feedback and explanation of the problem I’ve been encountering… Will check things out earlier in the day from now on!

Amazing app. I tried Hoopla a few years ago and wasn’t too impressed. Recently I picked it up again and wow, this app has improved and it’s amazing. It literally feels like getting away with something to have this much free content - not just books but also audiobooks, music, even tv shows and movies - for FREE at my fingertips. Between this and the Libby app it’s like having a huge library you can take with you anywhere. You can download anything you borrowed to your device with one tap. This means I can listen to music and audiobooks in the car without streaming! Yay! The only downside I have found to this app is the borrowing limit which, with my library, is 6 items per month. I have to ration my picks carefully! However, I believe this is specific to the library your account is linked with, not universal for the app. The only issues I have encountered are so slight they’re not even worth mentioning - an audiobook that skipped/lagged for a few seconds, and occasionally the app crashes or loses my place in my book. This app is so great!

The worst piece of crap. A much improved app. Many of the problems I’d had with it - and, as you can see below, they were numerous - have been fixed. Time will tell whether it’s more stable, but for the moment, it no longer gets in the way of my enjoying my books. What I originally said: It’s a shame, because what it does - give people access to ebooks - is fantastic, but everything about how it does it is stupid. The formatting of the books is wrong. It counts page number incorrectly. Navigation within the book is unreliable. The books don’t rotate with my ipad even though the app does. There’s apparently no way to get to a complete list of genres. WhenI list books from a genre, and I inspect one, returning to the listing always takes me to the top of the listing, no matter how many pages I’ve traversed. It’s as if the person who designed this app has never been in an actual library, or possibly doesn’t know what a book is. My library subscribes to both Overdrive and Hoopla, and I avoid Hoopla like the plague because of its terrible app. The new Libby app from Overdrive beats the pants off it in every conceivable way. I would give this app negative stars if it were possible. Just set it on fire and start over. Bleagh.

Must have!. I am OBSESSED. I am a public library director so the I have helped the library make this possible for our community. If your library doesn’t offer it, ask! Unlike other providers of digital content, though also amazing in their own right, Hoopla offers ebooks, audio books, comics, tv, music, and movies. All items in their catalog are instantly available- no wait! How many check outs a month is set by your library as its free to the user and paid for by the library but its a great compliment to other digital platforms! The app’s interface is easy to use and they are constantly improving it. You can download ebooks and audio books to your device for the 21 day check out so you can listen even when you cannot stream. If the item “falls off” after your checkout (because 50 hour audio books are a thing), you can re-borrow and it picks back up where you left off! You don’t have to start over. There are even more benefits I haven’t mentioned! And from the backend as a director, working with the staff at MidWest Tape is awesome; quick to answer questions & reach out for support. It’s easy to access your portal and check stats, make changes to checkout limits and controls, and review spending. I can’t say enough nor can my patrons!! We love it! CHECK IT OUT!

Hoopla is a great service, but a terrible app!. And unfortunately the app(s) never get better. Things change, but usually for the worse, or for a different kind of horrible. Let's list some of the many issues: - the apps (web, iPad, AppleTV) are all unconscionably slow, forcing random pauses for no reason - the apps (iPad and aTV) STILL do not remember, from one playback to another, that I want Closed Captions visible. Every other app on iPad or aTV gets this right; Hoopla is the only one that insists on forgetting Closed Caption state every time new content is opened. - scrolling the current iPad app through your favorites literally makes you feel like you are having seizure. Items randomly appear and disappear with no obvious pattern. The effect is, seriously, really really unpleasant. - the aTV app has its own version of scrolling issues where, randomly, as you are scrolling through your Wishlist, it will reset the scrolling to the top of the list. Every other aTV app seems capable of proper scrolling just fine, but not Hoopla. - the app doesn't provide multiple lists. In particular it doesn't distinguish between a WISHLIST (things I want to see/read/listen to) and a FAVORITES list (things I've seen/read/listened to, and want to remember, maybe to see again with friends).

No question the 3-4 main apps get 5 stars. The reason is not because the 3-4 of them deserve it based on pure functionality like crashes, failing to sync your reading progress after you load up the book the next time, and limits that seem restrictive (Hoopla) for how many reading items you can borrow per month. Libby (Formerly Overdrive) is an extremely solid 5 star and is the clear leader in every aspect EXCEPT Hoopla offers the ability to borrow other content that others do not loan out or own. Ebooks & audiobooks I prefer Libby, Kanopy for borrowing videos, and Hoopla for comic books, TV shows sometimes and movies…oh yes music as well. The video content can and is different from Kanopy to Hoopla. The fact that I can “borrow” books and magazines and choose digital copies to read or the audio version and I pay NOTHING EVER, not a single penny to billions of items….how can these 3-4 apps be anything less than a 5. We owe these teams recognition that the countries hand out for exemplar civilian service to communities.

Saves Me Lots of Moola!. This may be my first app review, but I wanted to tell you how thankful I am for Hoopla. There is plenty of content of interest and I’ve even seen some really recent books on here. I’ve stopped using Audible since discovering it (when someone mentioned it in a review of the Libby app, which I also use, but Libby can have long waits and has shorter borrow times). I do wish we could read the ebooks in Kindle form because that’s better for eyes than a typical tablet screen and my Kindle has much better battery life than my ipad. It’s great how we can highlight within the ebooks, but I don’t think there’s a way to save those highlights or add notes like on Kindle. As I don’t really like reading whole books on the iPad, I usually stick to audiobooks here, but am very grateful for them. Occasionally, Hoopla doesn’t succeed in accurately syncing my place between devices (phone and iPad), so that’s something they might want to take a look at. I also appreciate that you can toggle in and out of Kids mode, but would prefer a password to enter back into adult mode, for when my kids use it on their own. It is tricky to constantly supervise all content kids select and I’m not comfortable with all the options in the Kids section either. Perhaps a parent could enter a password to approve each borrow before a child can borrow while in Kids mode. Thank you for a great free app though. I’m happy to be a member of a library that participates with it.

This app is wonderful! But some things…. This app is fun, useful, and great for borrowing books! It has audiobooks, ebooks (basically an online reading book), magazines, and even movies! Of course you have to borrow all of those things (in the morning specifically) and you can only have 5 titles every 21 days. But it’s still a great app! You can even read offline! (As long as you’ve already borrowed a book) Oh! And it’s all completely free! I recommend this app to anyone who is considered getting it. Word to creators: I recently have been trying to borrow an audiobook (Yes I am trying to borrow it at like 8 am in the morning) and when I click ‘borrow’, it says again; your collective daily library has set a limit and will be reached by midnight. So, I try the next morning, same thing! Its very frustrating when I’m trying to borrow an audiobook before I finish the hard cover book at home. I really would like this book so if there is anyway to fix this, please fix it soon. Thank you so much! Don’t forget! Bye!

Great except for a couple of things. I am very happy to have found hoopla! I listen to a lot audio books and I like being able to check out audio books from the library for free (YAY!!) This app works well but there are some narrators readers who need to be slowed down (or sped up) just a hair and the available speed change utility slows it way too much. Instead of going from 100% to 75% it would be great to go to 95% or 98% because 75% is way to slow and distorts the voices. Also, if I want to move to a different part of the book and I haven’t set a bookmark and I am going to a place where tapping the 15 second arrow is cumbersome (and I am aware it makes bigger jumps the more you tap it), I at times try to slide to dot to the correct place. Sometimes it is super easy but other times it slides the entire page. I wish every audio books was broken down into chapters but not all of them are so being able to more easily move the slide would be great. Thank you for listening!!

Convenient but borrowing limit & PAGES STICK. Pros: I don't have to go out to the library (spending time and gas) to get a book. I don't have to worry about damaging the book, losing it, or late fees. It also saves my place in a book with roughly 80-90% accuracy. And, it offers books I otherwise would not be able to get from my library. Cons: It's not easy to check different pages for something because you swipe to turn a single page at a time. (I can't find a menu or "how to" section to see if there's another way.) Sometimes pages stick (pages stick way too often), have a black spot, go halfway off the screen, etc. so text is unreadable. I would hit the X to go out and back in, but that is often missing too. To fix, I have to power my device off and back on. It's a real pain, but it ultimately works. Finally, there is also a monthly borrowing limit unlike the limitless books I can check out from my library per month. (My Hoopla limit is 10/month.) Honestly though, I would rather have a physical book in my hand for the ease of checking different pages and not having to be tied to a charger, but I am glad to have access to titles that my library doesn't physically have (even if the pages do stick infuriatingly so). (Seriously though, please fix the page sticking. Thanks.)

Used to love it. I don’t normally write reviews for things especially apps but I felt this was needed. I used to love hoopla, it started out working so well for me. Recently tho it’s been giving me difficulties. For some reason if I don’t use the app for a few days in a row, when I go in to search for books nothing comes up. Like I can’t search for anything bc it says that nothing exists. At that point I have to log out and log back in in order for it to work properly. Additionally, at times when I log out and try to log back in it’ll ask me to recreate my entire account again which is an annoyance I wish I didn’t have to deal with. The final straw was that I was logged out of my account and everytime I’ve tried to log back in it says that using my email it can’t find an account connected to that email. Then when I go to try to recreate and account it says that I can’t because there’s an account holder using that email! It keeps driving me in circles and I don’t know how to remedy this. Hoopla needs to get this app in order bc it is such a cool and convenient app to have for a book and audiobook lover such as myself.

It’s getting ridiculous.... I’ve had this app for a few years now. It has been slightly irritating at times. Sometimes it won’t play so I’ll have to restart it. Sometimes it randomly pauses so I’ll have to restart it again. But the past few days have been way worse. It keeps telling me I’m using my account on another device. I have never logged into another device. So I change the password to my account just in case. Twice. Then it won’t load. My books won’t show up under borrowed. So I keep killing the app and restarting it and half the time (I’d say I did it over 35 times) it would show my books on the home screen. But if I click on any of them to listen to them or return them it freezes and shows a blank screen. Of the very very few times it actually showed the page with the book it hardly ever started playing. And if it did, it made an awful squeaking, stuttering noise. I have restarted my phone, deleted and reinstalled the app, used different wifi’s, and reported the problem. I’ve noticed other people have said the same thing since the last update and the response is that it was fixed. It is not so. I have been having the problem for the past 3 hours. I am still - right now - trying to play my audiobook and as I write this review I am hearing squeaking. The problem is most certainly not fixed. It seems to me it shouldn’t be this hard to play an audiobook.

Great app. Only problem is only 6 titles per month allowed for borrow books I would greatly appreciate if that limit could increase from 6 to 12 or 15 per month

The best. It has nearly all the books I want. Thank you for creating such a wonderful app.

Client Disservice. When I’d log into Hoopla, a message appeared stating there was a problem with my Burwood library card and to contact the library staff. I did so, the card was valid and able to be used at the library. When I logged into Hoopla again, the same message appeared! I repeated Hoopla instructions again. Same result. I sent Hoopla very detailed emails asking for SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE LIBRARY STAFF. I also specifically asked not to be told only to contact library staff again. Of course I was given no specific instructions other than to be again told my library card was invalid and to (you guessed it) contact library staff. I added a card from a second library and got the same message. I tried a third library and successfully accessed Hoopla again. My access was not due to any advice given by Hoopla staff. I hope the Burwood library staff have forgiven my frustrations.

Great app. Great app but would be even better if you could access binge pass from TV apps or stream from the phone to TV

Needs a lot of work. Would be nice to preview books a bit so I’m not using up my borrow limit just to find out the book isn’t quite what I wanted… would of been nice to have been told about the borrow limit to begin with. Weird you can only borrow six a month even though you return them?? Genre categories is limited. Wanted to see if it was possible to browse art and crafts for example but there’s only a non fiction category with everything from language learning to philosophy thrown in, but there’s 5 categories for Christian fiction?

Great app but 5 borrows per month is a joke. Hoopler is a really really good app! However, it would be really nice if I didn’t have to worry about running out of watch credits so fast. I mean who watches five programs a month? I could watch that in a day, or even in the space of a couple of hours.

Text size limited. I have a visual impairment but still love to read books. E books are fantastic. However your text size is very limited. Apple Books and Libby all offer a lot larger text size. Could you please increase the sizes for those of us who love to read but need larger print. Book selection is great so thank you for that even though I have to use a magnifier with my iPad to read them at the moment ☹️

Works the way it is Supposed to. Works which is better than some of the library apps I’ve tried so 5 stars

Thanks. This is an amazing app that gives us access to so much wisdom and insight! I love how it returns the books and you avoid fines! Most of all I appreciate the access to so many great ebooks and audio books.

Great range. Hoopla gives you access to a lot more books and resources. I love that I can find more Christian authors here than anywhere else - for free!

Enjoying Hoopla. So happy to be able to hear audiobooks for free from my local library. Illness stopped me from reading, so finding audiobooks has filled that void in my day. Was great through Covid lockdown, just borrowing through my iPad.

Good selection of titles.. I like using the App. Easy to use. Good selections of ebooks, eAudio books, video, films & comics. Like the Hoopla Bonus Borrows for the month November 2021. January 2024 Enjoyed serie audiobooks. Good selection & variety.

Takes long time to start. The opening splash screen takes 2-3 seconds to load. It loads much slower than other audiobook readers I’ve been using so I only use hoopla if the book is not available anywhere else.

Enjoying the books. Very happy with the range of books available. Also happy to be able to read a whole series.

I adore this app. I can’t speak highly enough of this app and the wonderful material available - I especially love the metaphysical audio books which are giving me so many new concepts to think about - with a library card access is free and this in itself is remarkable- Highly Recommend

Best online library ever. Ok. This. Is. The. Best. Online. Library. Ever. I cannot describe in words how much I love this online library, so many books, movies, comics, and more to choose from. For me hoopla being free is also a mega bonus because most online libraries you have to pay, but this is entirely free. There is no substitute so download now!

An amazing online service that’s shockingly easy to sign up for.. Libraries are great, end of story. Outside of just being great places to meet with friends or catch up on work, they’ve got tons of entertainment to spread. Hoopla is a library add-on that only needs your library card to work with, and you instantly get access to tons of books online. If you’ve got a library subscription, you’d be stupid to not download and use Hoopla.

Borrower’s Dilemma. I am a new user to Hoopla . A friend recomnended it to me. I used Borrow box and I am very happy with it. More user friendly. Hoopla’s audiobook selection is a nice alternative to Borrow box audiobook collection. My only complain with Hoopla is the borrowing time. Once I am done with an audiobook I cannot return it rightaway to allow me to borrow more audiobooks. It stays on my records for 21 days. Why ? I don’t need it anymore. Other user can listen to it after me. This 21 days role frustrates me . It’s stopping me to listen to another book in the series and also fills my memory up. Just sitting there waiting for 21 days! Please ammend it and add the return button. This way it will allow me to borrow more audiobooks rather than 6 only in a month. I also find navigating a bit confusing and harder compared to borrow box. Make our experiences using Hoopla a good experience. Make it simple. Have tree buttons Borrow- Hold- Return. Many thanks, Judy

Happy listening!. New to hoopla and more than happy with the amount of audio books available. Plus the amount of time you can borrow the book for is ample. Thanks.🌻

Holà. Amazingly good. Intuitive and very easy to use. Lots of content available. Fantastic

Great app for readers. I really like the Hoopla app and the ability to borrow titles without waiting in a queue. Would be ideal if there was a preview function for audiobooks to test them out before borrowing.

Better than expected. The Mobile app works very well and transfers to desktop it stay up to date. Very easy to get going. Mainly used for audiobooks currently.

Very glitchy. The premise is great, but the app is so glitchy. I try to search a book and it always flicks back to the start screen, whether I'm in the middle of typing, searching or reading. This happens over and over, until I give up and want to throw my phone against a wall.

It doesn't work. Your app never leaves the "calculating pages" initial state. Whenever I open a book, this is all it says, it never loads the book. I've updated the app twice, no change. I'm on an iPhone 6S with the latest iOS to date.

It’s the best. It’s a great app, works flawlessly I wish I had found it years ago

Love hoopla. This app is so amazing, music, books , movies all for free. You can’t get better than that!

Good app but missing some important features. There doesn’t seem anyway to bring up a list of chapters when listening to audiobooks.

Excellent app, very user friendly. I am using Hoopla to access ebooks from my library. The search engine is easy to use, and easy to download titles. I have an iPhone and an iPad, and they synced on the app perfectly. I am a very happy customer.

Limit on borrows.. It is a good enough app but it annoys me that there is a limit on monthly borrows, especially such a small one! My 8 year old son used the limit up in about three days and we then had to wait the rest of the month for me to be able to get the ONE book that I wanted. We have other apps that allow us to borrow through our library and they have a limit on how many you can have at once, but not how many in a month. Unfortunately some of the books we wanted were only available on hoopla so we had to wait.

Wide ranging choice and convenience. A great app. Use it for so many things - audio books, e books, music… and great to be able to instantly access whatever I want.

Buggy and frustrating. Hoopla often forgets where you are and the simple act of pausing and playing throws you chapters ahead or behind. It’s a basic task for any audio player and this app struggles with it. Incredibly frustrating.

Kalamunda library. Easy to you great download option

Basic features missing. Not a terrible ereader, but let down by very odd keyboard support - for example, cursor-right moves the page slightly, rather than turning it. Also forgets what book you’re reading periodically and drops you at the home page. Resuming where you are is a basic feature.

Excellent selection of good reads. Love Hoopla. Easy to use and a great selection of books to read and listen too plus more!

Not reliable to track. This is by far the worst audiobook app I’ve installed on my iPhone. It randomly loses the track of my readings, and when my phone is locked if I play the paused audiobook it starts a second stream of the book from the beginning of the book! I got tired of the app and returned the book to my library to loan them again via different app.

Plenty of glitches. Searching is really difficult because app sets to Home just before I finish typing in search term. Start again and again and again. My Hoopla shows all the books I’ve already read or listened to. Good, but new suggestions, books I might like to read and favourites are also books that I’ve already read. There are very few suggestions that are novel or suitable. Finally when I have read 9 books of a 12 set, three are missing. Not the last three but three random numbers from the series. Oh, and a 2 hour audiobook and a 8 hour audiobook count for the same value so I can use up my monthly allowance in a couple of days if I’m not careful.

Wishful Thinking. I do love Hoopla but 6 books a month isn't enough though. Wish it's up to 10 books a month. I have the audio on almost all day when I'm home and even when I go for my walks, have it on too. Pls pls pls add another 4 books for audio 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞 other than that, I love Hoopla ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

First book read. Just finished my first ebook on this platform. Easy to user and navigate. About to start on Tess Gerritson

Enjoy the movies. The app is very easy and user friendly. Quick streaming for movies as well as books . Very clear screen. Love it

Great app as long as you have internet. I love using this app daily for audio books!!! It’s one of my most used apps on my phone, I would have given 5 stars only for the reason that when I hit areas often without any internet that I’m logged out of the app and can’t use it until I’m back in an area that does have it. As a full time traveller this does become a real pain as you can be with internet data for some days off grid.

Books for free. I love reading and listening to books but they can be expensive. A library isn’t always open but Hoopla is. I can borrow a book in the middle of the night or anytime. The audio book controls are good. I always know where I’m up to and can rewind easily if needed.

Very good. I use this a lot. Love that the items are readily accessible. Have recommended to my friends. I do have some difficulty with the bookmarking as it does not register. Please advise

Hoopla. This is the most widely used App on my iPad. There are hours and hours of interesting and information titles to choose from. Hoopla has come along just in time for my retirement. I use it ever day for entertainment and information. Looking forward to starting a course in the near future.

Bookmarks. Am enjoying Hoopla. Has some of my favourite authors but having trouble with bookmarks. Doesn’t always open on the page I last finished or on the bookmark. And unlike Libby or BorrowBox I can’t see how to easily go to a bookmarked page.

Has some bugs. Can’t read my comic because it keeps saying there was a error loading your book

Very useful. I love hoopla cause it’s all about the library online I would give it 70 stars if it would be okay for you I love how easy it is to use

Hoopla. Hoopla has some good titles and it is easy to download a book via membership of a local library. However, on my ipad, the interface was inconsistent. Some chapters came in a tiny font I couldn’t read and I couldn’t find any way to increase the size.

Limit on borrowing too small. Love the content of the app, but as an avid reader 8 per month is too small. Even if you return a book/episode you can’t borrow more until next month. Especially as the courses are broken up into episodes you borrow individually even if they are 15-20min long you can easily get through all your credits in a day or two. Very disappointing.

Very happy. A fantastic range of books, e books and other things to borrow

Best money never spent. More people need to know that they can get so many books, comics, cds or audio books they want for free. The borrow limit is a little small and the app is a bit glitchy and stutters from time to time, but I haven’t felt so compelled to pick up reading since I was in high school

Blessed Child by Ted Dekker. Have you ever read a book and felt your world would never be the same again? Call it an awakening, a resurrection, or even a homecoming. This book is transformative! The author takes you on a journey you didn’t know you’d longed for, your entire life. It’s utterly amazing. You MUST read this book.

More books per month!. It’s a great app and I love it but there 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐬 to be an improvement to the number of books we are allowed to take out per month!!!!! Like 2 a month? I read more than that in a week! Please, please improve this.

great app! all the comics i could want. and i suppose all the audiobooks and movies i could want as well, and all for free thanks to my local library and hoopla !

Hoopla is awesome!. It is a great way to get children and adults to read. I haven’t read comic books since I was a kid! Only one thing… I can’t borrow more than 8 books per month, why?

Update still air play/ cast stuck. Oct 20 2024,iOS 17.7 iPhone 12 mini Both air play alone or tv cast alone still showing start play back with waiti icon wheel turning forever. TV is Samsung CU series 50 and 55 in. Developer did not solve the problem. What a pity.

Basic. I really like the way I can borrow audio books from the comfort of my home. The app is pretty basic and easy to use. I wish I could switch between chapter or entire book. Right now it’s only entire book so backing up a few chapters, because I fell asleep, is very annoying and difficult to pinpoint.

Great App. Love that my library allows me to listen to material on it. Easy to register and reclaim password

Great App. What a wonderful app, there is nothing better than being able to listen to a vast library of books, and it’s all free.

Two is too little. I understand a limit of two but it would be nice to be able to return them and take out two more. Two books a month is too little

Hoopla. Books and audiobooks are readily available but you can only take 5 out monthly. Major flaw as I can listen to an audiobook in 2-3 days. Please don’t put a limit on withdrawals.

Braiding Sweetgrass. Love the variety of prose made available through Hoopla!

The Oak Tree. Very well done movie more in this time of turmoil we need more movies like this

Little extra reading. I have enjoyed the titles I have downloaded on my phone. Such a variety.

Brilliant. Free Books, comics, movies and music what’s not to love?

Warning. Quite surprised when I reached my limit. Did not know this would happen. I would never have started a series. Maybe a warning of number of loans remaining would be useful.

Why the age limit?. We are huge fans of audiobooks in our house, especially for our child with dyslexia. However, I wish the age limit wasn’t 12+ so that he could borrow his own books on his own tablet.

Won’t load. The screen is still black even after the recent update

The best!!!! So good!!! Muy bueno. Excelent!!!!

Limit on books per month. I’m disappointed that I can only take out 5 books per month on Hoopla. Libby has unlimited books to take out. However, their selection is far smaller than yours. Can you explain your limit?

Mostly hot flaming garbage. Audiobooks tend to work okay most of the time but eBooks are a figurative tire fire. Links don’t work, can’t search for specific sentences, crashes constantly... list goes on.

Decent. Overall nice app, good collection, but search is quite inconvenient and a star off for not having audiobook samples. Reading/voice quality is too important

Does not open on iPad Pro. Title says it all.

Difficult to connect to Tv. Does not seem to work with an Amazon fire stick to connect to TV

tv series. I really enjoy the programing, however would like to see the tv series in sequence.

flicker. it does this flicker thing while scrolling that’s incredibly jarring for some reason. glitches on website so you have to get app. things like this.

Review. I don’t like how this app is set up it’s very weird and I do not like it It looks like a toddler made it. Honestly, I could do better. Very sad have a Coquitlam government made this app

Why only 5 titles. It really limits how much I can listen to each month

Lending limit. There’s nothing to alert you to the fact there’s a lending limit, despite the fact that it says LIMITLESS ENTERTAINMENT in the app description. Not so limitless after all.. I can borrow 5 books a month apparently.. super weird because with my library card I can borrow as many as I want. Essentially this app is useless to me for about 2/3 of every month. 👎 2 stars for that 1/3 I guess.

Very good app. Thank you to my public library, Coquitlam Publc Lib for providing this resource. Kudos!

Can’t sign up. Launched the app and went to sign up. Filled out the information but couldn’t click to go forward. Nothing happens.

Can’t find half the titles available at my library. I can’t find titles I know are available at my library. I don’t know why they’re not available but it’s really annoying because this is the only app my library uses for audiobooks and ebooks. The only audiobooks available are titles I’ve never heard of. This app also doesn’t function the way other good library apps function, which is as an easily-searchable catalogue with various filters to limit results. This app has limited filters, and the ones available are close to useless and even hide titles that should be included in searches. I honestly don’t understand why my library switched from a perfectly functional app to one that seems incomplete at best.

The search is based of the books not just the titles!!!. I don’t even have to ask for book recommendations, I just put in a topic I like and it gives me audio books that are similar or based on that topic!!

Need to increase monthly loans. I like the variety and volume of titles available but 5 loans a month is far too low. I finish this many titles in a week or less and then have to wait weeks to get new ones.

Fantastic App. I love using Hoopla via my local library collaboration and it’s so awesome because they usually always have an audio version of the latest books you want but can’t get through traditional means!

Was enjoying.... But suddenly all my content/favorites/borrowed books have disappeared and I have to search for the book to read it. Restarting the app & my phone doesn’t alleviate this issue. I’m hoping it’ll fix soon!

Hoopla. Lots of good viewing for free

Love my library ! Mississauga public thank you!. Thanks for providing access. I listened to the nee Coldplay and joker album today! Workd great!

It USED to be great.... It used to be great! But they keep limiting the items per month that you can have!!! First unlimited, then 10, 5, and now 2?!?!? I’m happy that they let us have anything, but TWO?! I could get through that in two DAYS.

Upgraded now it doesn't work. Can't load anything or even connect to Hoopla now

Great Free App. Just discovered Hoople and have used it to watch Brit and Scandi series I can’t find anywhere else. As to people complaining about the #of books/movies; it’s FREE!!! So stop the complaining

Thankful. There is a great selection of books and l am so greateful for this service.

Pretty good 👍. It’s pretty good but… I wish it let you take out more than five books! and when he returned them they stay as something you borrowed! I mean after you return it you can’t get another one if you already borrowed 5!!!! But it’s still good.Libby is better!!!!😑

Favorite app. I love hoopla

Playback issues. I have two issues with hoopla. When I am casting a movie it will stop and indicate that I’m casting on another device. I have to stop and restart. Now, I cannot chromecast at all. It starts a title and then immediately crashes. iPhone 14 Pro up to date with iOS

The best!. Love the audiobooks, shows and movies all included with our library card! So great

Hoopla is awesome. Hi my name is Iris I love this app so much my mom got me this app because I am dyslexic and I love listening to the stories and imagining that I recommend a lot there’s the front desk series which is really good the whatever Afters they were so amazing there’s every book you can ever imagine there I recommend it for sure

doesnt work anymore. the hoopla app doesnt work for any of my devices.

Inconsistent. I love the books on here but it’s constantly glitching saying I don’t have any borrows when It says I have 5 and then I can’t read any books at all. other times it works pretty good but it’s seriously getting on my nerves.

Hoopla is nice but I don’t like the wait. I love hoopla but I don’t like that you can only get 2 books a month I go through books very fast so it isn’t the greatest but I still like it

I love hoopla!. I just wish there wasn’t a limit to how many items you can borrow per month! Other than that, it’s great!

Great for audio books but crashes for e-books. This app is great for streaming movies or listening to audio books, but it keeps crashing for e-books. For reading e-books Libby is definitely FAR superior. I’ve been using Hoopla for the Palo Alto Library (since it’s their app) and Libby for the Menlo Park library, but I’m going to have to either use Libby for e-books or go back to Overdrive. Hoopla just keeps quitting on me. And I’m using the latest iOS. I turn the page and it turns multiple pages so I have to hunt to figure out where I am! Seems like one needs to bookmark the page before trying to turn it! Update: This last time something happened and I ended up with two tiny columns on the page, so I had to switch to scrolling view so the type was legible. I don’t like this app, but I was grateful that they had the book I wanted to read. Turns out Hoopla and Libby don’t have the same books, even if you use them for the same library!

Buggy, but lots of great content. I use Hoopla for audiobooks mainly while driving and cleaning house. I am very grateful for the large selection available. The app itself is quite buggy, though, which has occasionally made me stop using it for periods of time. If a book isn’t playing, anytime you leave the app, you have to relaunch the app, choose your book again and press resume to play the book again. Overall, it’s only 10-15 seconds or so, but I don’t understand why I can’t pause the audiobook, send a quick text and go right back to listening to the audiobook. It often crashes if I’m using Maps and listening to an audiobook and a text comes through. Sometimes it doesn’t hold your place well when you pause an audiobook so you end up either relistening to 5 minutes or so, or else, trying to find where you stopped and getting frustrated with that. Overall, though, I’m grateful for free audiobooks (though I’m not sure how much my library has to pay), so I will continue to use it and just complain about my first world problems!

Great resource but has a few significant issues. This app has been a fantastic way to listen to audiobooks but it has a glaring issue that desperately needs fixing. Often times one cannot borrow a book due to a “borrow limit”. Currently the app is supposed to allow 4 borrows monthly however when attempting to borrow it will mistakenly think that one has already hit their daily limit. Even with nothing checked out for the month. It will state that one must wait till midnight to borrow another but even that is inconsistently true. The only fix I’ve found is favoriting what I intend to borrow ahead of time, and trying to borrow the day before I intend to start reading or listening. Then during the late of night borrowing. If one waits till the day to do so it often gives the same message. I’ve reached out to support before now however they were unable to provide a consistent and easy solution. I would easily give this app 5 stars if it was fixed but as of now it is quite detrimental to the overall experience.

Problems FOR MONTHS!. I’ve been using HOOPLA FOR IOS for forever and I have enjoyed it immensely! I appreciate having so much entertainment and knowledge right at my fingertips. I am very grateful that it’s free to use as well. HOWEVER, I am at my ABSOLUTE WITS END WITH THIS APP. FOR MONTHS, at LEAST 6, I HAVEN’T BEEN ABLE TO BROWSE FOR ANYTHING, because NO MATTER WHERE I GO IN THE APP, or what I’m looking at, I AM JERKED AWAY BACK TO ONE OF THE MAIN SCREENS. I AM SO FRUSTRATED AND ANGRY OVER THE MULTIPLE ISSUES THIS APP HAS. I HAVE CONTACTED THE COMPANY MULTIPLE TIMES, detailing the problems that are going on, carefully explaining exactly what is happening. But NOTHING HAS BEEN FIXED!!! Nothing!!!! FOR MONTHS!!! There are OTHER PROBLEMS BESIDES WHAT I’VE MENTIONED- DUPLICATION OF TITLES IN A LIST. I.e. I Look up books by LOGAN RYLES, AND SAY 4 books come up, then the same 4 BOOKS WILL SHOW OVER AND OVER DOWN, down, down the page, FOREVER!!! That doesn’t upset me as much AS NOT BEING ABLE TO SCROLL DOWN ANY LIST OR CATEGORY, or READ THE SUMMARY OF A MOVIE OR BOOK OR EVEN SEE WHAT THE HOOPLA MOVIES OF THE MONTH ARE-BECAUSE THE SCREEN IS JERKED AWAY, AND I’M TAKEN BACK TO THE HOME SCREEN. AAAHHH I’M SOOOOOOOO FRUSTRATED!!!!!!! Please please PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS APP!!!! PLEASEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and yes I’ve deleted again and again and downloaded again and again. NOTHING WORKS!!!!

New update is terrible. 2/1/26: Really not enjoying the new update. The icons for the books are smaller and harder to read and recognize. Also, when you choose a book to read the synopsis before you borrow, the description a lot of the time is cut off and there is no option to ‘read more’ so you only get to read half of it. Please change it back to the way it was. I read a lot and unfortunately the limit of 5 books a months is annoying. I’m pretty sure I can check out more than this each time I go to the actual library. Also, this month I hadn’t read any books yet and I go to borrow one and it tells me that I have to wait until midnight for me to borrow it, even though it’s 15 days into the month. - APPARENTLY THIS IS DUE TO THE DIGITAL BORROW LIMIT THE LIBRARY HAS PER DAY. SO BORROW YOUR BOOKS EARLIER IN THE DAY IF POSSIBLE. Also, the app crashes a lot when I search for books. There’s not the hugest selection and sometimes they don’t have the English version of a book. Libby is my go to for audiobooks now. Unlimited reads & you can use multiple library cards you have.

A convenient and accessible digital library. Hoopla is an excellent resource for borrowing books via online offering conveniency compared to visiting the library when you don't have the time to visit. One of the biggest advantages is the ability to borrow books without having to worry about availability, a common issue when visiting the library in person. The platform is easy to navigate and with a generous borrowing 21 day period, users have plenty of time to enjoy their selections before returning them. Beyond the books, HOOPLA provides access to language apps, making it a valuable tool for anyone looking to refine or learn a new language. As a service through the library district it ensured that anyone who cannot visit the library in person still has access to the knowledge and resources. I appreciate that this app is provided to everyone to offer reading and learning accessible.

All about my obsessions. OK so audiobooks that I love Harry Potter that’s all I listen to. I literally listening to go to bed and I keep it playing all night and sometimes I wake up talking like Ron Harry Hermione like with a British say like like open the boot, or like what are you doing mate? It’s just so fun and then there’s also a lot of kids movies but I just say be careful if you are a kid I’m 11 years old but sometimes there can be bad things so just be careful and sometimes at the top there can be bad things. So that’s not the best but overall the music is also really good just Be careful at what music you’re listening to and what The album covers are because I’ve had a friend who was watching like looking for an album on this app and they said that there was some way inappropriate things on here and my friend was probably right, so I’d always be careful but they still haven’t had a pump Demon Hunter movie on but they have the soundtrack and it’s so amazing but yeah that’s my review

Good books and music and movies and TV. I love the Harry Potter books they’re the best thing ever I have not chosen any other books I think the Harry Potter books are just really cool I like how they have kids mode and adults mode because then kids can get things that kids can do like TV music and then there’s some things that adults can only do and then teenagers of course could choose kids or adults And I think this app is really cool and I just wish that it would not keep kicking me out tried my library card and it kicked me out so I don’t know what happens but anytime the tablets ally did just kidding if I don’t watch it it kicks me out and it’s just so frustrating and I think that may be if they could start like me like if it’s kicked out if like it kicked a person out they should probably fix that for you but I guess that’s not just a guess that’s not the hoopla way so and I’m fine with that that’s what I would do if I programmed an app so I am fine with it

Great for book lovers.. I really enjoy this app! Here’s why: It was extremely quick and easy to set up. Finding books is easy, and it’s very organized. You can pick from series, to multiple genres at once which is wonderful for when you’re looking for specific styles. I really like the rating system on the books you read. Depending on the rating you give the book they will pick other books you may like and remove ones you wouldn’t. You can choose the background color of the page as well as the font style and size. I normally hate reading on my phone because it hurts my eyes. You can also choose to scroll or swipe to turn the page. I do wish there were more options to the background color, or at least more muted as they still seem to be bright. Overall I’m still able to read for a long time. Wherever you stop reading is automatically book marked and when you open the app it will automatically take you to your last page of the book you were reading. I tend to only read one book at a time, so I’m not sure if this happens if you download more than one at once. You can get 8 books a month, and have 21 days to read them before returning them. The books are automatically returned when they’re due unless you manually click return. As someone who reads a lot I would like to be able to return a book when I’m finished and borrow more than 8 a month.

Several books and complaints. Some of the books indicate whether or not they are readable or audio. Some have the ear bud logo but some do not. Some are written in a foreign language but even after you read as much about the book as possible, you check it out to hear a foreign language. I recently checked out a David Baldacci audiobook that did not state it was translated to German. Surprise ! The app is not intuitive. I want audiobooks only because of a visual handicap. However, cannot seem to be able to set other filters such as kids / young adults/ etc. this app seems be able to handle one filter only. It needs some serious revamping to make it more user friendly, less annoying Also, why does this app have 2-3 begenning books of a series skip 1-2 books and the pick up later time sensitive books in the series? This is a huge frustration and a real showstopper . If not all books are available in the library, don’t stock it with huge reading voids missing 1-3 books in the series! Thank you

great, but has some bugs. I’ve been using Hoopla for a couple months now, and I love it! I switch between Hoopla and Libby, because they each tend to offer different books. I like that with Hoopla, they are always instantly available, whereas Libby often has a waitlist. But lately, Hoopla has been logging me out pretty regularly, and this is especially annoying because I typically listen to audiobooks while I’m on hikes, so I don’t often have good service. I’ll check before I leave and will still be logged in, but then I get to the trail and the app reboots and I’m logged out. I download the books to my device beforehand so they will play without needing service, but if the app logs me out when I arrive to a hiking trail, or anywhere without wifi, the downloads are deleted and I need service to listen/download again and it eats my battery charge. This is the only issue I’ve had with the app so far, but it’s happening about half the time at this point.

Great when it works. I have enjoyed borrowing TV episodes, movies, music, and the occasional book or audiobook. Even a couple graphic novels since I got my iPad. I wish the books would go to Kindle, like with Libby, since it’s a lot lighter. But I my main issue is that the app won’t fully load if I’m offline. The times I watch digital videos and listen to audiobooks is most often are when I’m traveling on long international flights, without WiFi. Media that’s downloaded in the app should be accessible even if I’m offline. The only way I’ve managed to work around this is to keep the app open to the media, and keep coming back to it regularly, as I head to the airport, check in, board, etc, so it will still be active when I’m ready to sit back and be distracted from the less-enjoyable aspects of modern air travel. Also, right now it’s not loading any content, even though I AM online. I tried reinstalling it & logging in again, but no dice. Search doesn’t work, and the Home screen & Favorites have no content. Disappointing.

Collective Daily Borrow. Alright, yes, a monthly limit of a few books per month, preferably ranging around 4-8 is normal. Otherwise, there would be some issues of over-borrowing. But a daily limit on overall borrowing is absurd! I log into hoopla after a long day of work (or school, whichever fits your situation) and click on a book that I wanted to borrow that morning but didn’t have the time to. A pop-up appears and says, “the collective daily borrow of your library has been reached and will reset at midnight. Please continue to browse and add titles to your favorites so you can easily access them after midnight.” If I wanted to follow this regulation, I would have to borrow a book at 12:01 on the dot to even have the slightest chance of ever getting a book, and if I did so I would be so tired in the morning I would have trouble getting to work. As a result, the only time I can borrow a book is if I do so over a weekend or my lunch break. If you must make innocents suffer from having a community limit on books, of all things, please make the limit less of a nuisance to those with 15 hours of work per day. The only reason this app is still downloaded on my device is so that I can fill in the gaps for series that I cannot find.

Soo many good reads. I love this app, I’ve always loved reading but because I’m busy all the time I’ve spent majority of the time listening to audiobooks while I clean the house or while I’m driving, I love the selection because I read to my niece and she loves comics as well, hoopla has something for everyone. It’s perfect for online reading but you can also download the book you are reading to your device for offline reading it’s literally magically. I never have to wait for books they are available immediately. If you haven’t already, get the app! It’s literally amazing and you have about 3 weeks to read before your book is automatically returned butttt the best part is if you didn’t finish and you wanted to you can borrow it again! And if that doesn’t make you wanna get this app did I mention it was free? Lastly if your book gets returned before you finish it and you decide to borrow it again it resumes from where you left off!!!!

Go As a River. A novel based in Colorado, first in the city of Iola and then Durango. Victoria, aka Tory, has lost her mother and grows up as the lady in the house who cleans, cooks and works the peach fields for her father. Her only sibling, a brother Seth, is a drunk and she tries to keep him out of trouble with their father. Victoria meets Will Blue, a Native American homeless teen, who has just arrived in her town. They begin a secret affair and she gets pregnant. He is brutally killed before she can have the baby. She escapes home up to the mountains where she and Will usually went and there she roughly births her son. They run out of food, she cannot breast feed him, and she walks off searching for a solution. She encounters a couple having a picnic and the woman is nursing a new baby. Victoria decides to place her baby into their car and leave, with the hope he will be accepted by family. The rest of the novel tells of her succeeding in building a new peach farm; the question is: will she ever meet her baby son again?

VERY HAPPY!!!. I am soooo glad my best friend told me about Hoopla! I immediately went and got a library card and downloaded this app. I had found this one ebook that is a series my bestie recommended to me, that she read on Audible, but Hoopla only had the first book. I was devastated because the first book was sooo good and I wanted to find out what was to come. I refused to pay an arm and a leg for the series on Audible so I requested the books on Hoopla. I had no faith that they would listen to me but Lo AND BEHOLD, just a few short days later I was notified that they accepted my requests!!!!!! I borrowed those books so quick lolll Hoopla did not let me down at all and they are very responsive!!!! Thank you for your service! 🤭😌 btw my bestie only uses Audible because the library in her county doesn’t partner with Hoopla (yet🤞🏾) 😔 but she is going to pay the price to get a library card in another county because she likes Hoopla too! (One county gave her a free 30 day access to their library so she has been reaping the benefits.

Broken piano for president Peter Wensink. This book was recommended after I finished Winston grooms Forrest Gump and I decided to get it for two reasons both of them turned out to be the only reasons. Thought it was a strange coincidence that a book titled broken piano for president would be offered to me 10 days or so before the national election. The second coincidence occurred when one of the books characters was named Juan pandemic. Reading a book in the middle of a pandemic with a character named pandemic? if that’s not a coincidence I don’t know what is. The book came out of the gate very well I thought it was original and I wanted to know what a ‘cliff drinker’ was because I have suffered myself with a little bit of too much alcohol from time to time during the course of my life. I thought I could somewhat relate to the main characters blackouts, not remembering what happened the night before, very bad decisions, and waking up with strange women. yes I could relate. Plus he was in a rock ‘n’ roll band what’s not to like? to quote a song by the group ‘the band’— a drunkards dream if I ever did see one. Another intriguing part was corporate greed which I am very much against and wanted to see how the author handled it. The idea of a drunk able to come up with one great idea in the fast food industry after another was a novel and intriguing approach. Unfortunately the book ran out of steam midway through. the author seem to be unable to come up with anything to add to his original set of ideas. This caused the book to veer way off course something it just couldn’t quite recover from. By the end we had characters who had doubles something not really possible to the degree that the author tried to incorporate into the story. Despite the book only being so so I must give props once again to hoopla for your format and ease of operation. you guys rock! Keep up the good work. Constant audiobook reader Joe Lilley

Such a useful app!. I’ve been using Hoopla for years now and I’m so incredibly grateful for all the value it has added to my life. It’s basically the library on my phone! I get ebooks, audiobooks, and can even get movies and albums streamed on my devices FOR FREE!! I mostly use it for the audiobooks and ebooks and it has been great. The biggest thing i think i really appreciate about the app is when I got to re-borrow a book I haven’t borrowed for a while, it takes me right back to where I left off. There’s also some amazing titles on here as well! There are some books i wish were added on (not sure if i can suggest titles to add anywhere), but again not complaining one bit because again it’s all free and the ease of use of the system is phenomenal. Thank you so much to the developers who have put this beautiful network together, it has been an incredibly useful asset in my life and my growth. Your hard work is immensely appreciated!

Recent Upgrade makes hoopla less appealing !. Why oh why did you think this last change was an upgrade when it you took away functionality ?? Removing the ability to go back to a previous chapter or ahead along with not showing how much time is left in a chapter or the book is so not helpful! Please bring those functions back! I have become additional to Hoopla but will be using it less often! Since when do people make changes without considering the user? Additionally, now when you click on your bookmark, ir no longer takes you to the bookmarked page! Additionally the book opportunities under Flex borrow need to change more often. I have read everything I am going to read from FLEX BORROWS but since I am limited to regular borrows I am forced to look there often. I am not interested in ghost or olcult books. What good is it to offer book # 26 from an author when you don’t offer booked 1-25?

Used to be good. I’ve been using hoopla for almost ten years now and for the most part my experiences with it have been good. However, this year there have been a lot of annoying issues with the app that make it extremely frustrating to use. First of all why is there not one, not two, not three, not four but FIVE christian genres to choose from but not a single LGBTQ genre??? Do better. Whenever I try to search for a book it will let me type a few letters and then the search box will go blank and the keyboard disappears and so I have to start over and this will happen five or six times, always letting me get that much closer to completing my search before erasing all that I’ve typed and taking me back to the beginning. It’s honestly pretty rage inducing. And then when I finally get to borrow the audiobook I want it’ll play for a while and then randomly stop a few times or more every hour while still showing that time is passing when I’m unable to hear anything. This also happens a lot of the time whenever I have to pause the audiobook. Then the app freezes and I have to restart my phone.

Search Function Is TEDIOUS, and Sort Function Is Pointless. I had high hopes for this app that is offered through my city’s Public Library System. I downloaded this app to use for Ebooks and possibly audiobooks as well. Upon downloading the app, I immediately began searching for Ebooks, with the hopes of finding a few to download (hopefully) for a couple of flights that I have coming up. Unfortunately, despite me using a handful of broad search terms for the subjects of Ebooks that I was hoping to find, the search results returned were nowhere near what I was searching for, and were also quite limited in quantity. I then attempted the same broad subject/topic search terms again, this time under the app’s ’Advanced Search’ function, and this time, no results were returned from my “advanced search,” even when I once again attempted that same handful of broad search terms in different fields of the ‘Advanced Search’ section. I also noticed that the filters for the search results were very, very limited and horribly unhelpful. “No, I don’t know what year the book/Ebook was published!” There was also no way to filter your search results for SUGGESTED, or “pre-entered” options of genres/types of Ebooks (ie. There is no ‘drop down menu’ with pre-entered options to choose from such as ‘young adult,’ ‘adult,’ ‘non-fiction,’ etc. even under/with the ‘Advanced Search’ feature/function.). And since I came nowhere close to finding the Ebooks that I was hoping to find, nor any Ebooks that might’ve even piqued my interest (or even a better way [in this app] to find Ebooks that might’ve piqued my interest), I didn’t even attempt to try to download anything from this app so that I’d be able to access whatever I downloaded from here during my flight without having to use any in-flight WiFi (or for when the in-flight wifi wasn’t available).

I don’t know. I really like hoopla and all with the books and everything but there are a few things I would change. 1. I don’t know how to search for movies. I’ve tried and I think how you could change it would be on the movie section you could put a search bar instead of me scrolling and scrolling. That would be a big help for me and everyone else that likes movies. 2. You can only have 6 borrows in a month. I get that some people place 10 borrows a month every month because that’s how me and my family are. So I get that you switched it down to 6 and that’s okay. 3. I don’t know how to explain it but let’s say you type “frogs” and hit search, but when you type fro and then you click on the place that says frogs 🐸 you get different books and options. I really like hoopla and how you can check out all different kinds of books but maybe you could change one of these small details. Thanks!

No Audiobook Preview. Recently started using Hoopla for my audiobooks (previously using Libby). While the selection is plentiful and the app is easy to use, there are several issues that will most likely send me back to using the Libby app. The first issue is the inability to listen to a brief preview before borrowing the audiobook. If the narrator is someone I am unfamiliar with, I need to hear them read a bit first ... there have been audiobooks I have returned to both Libby and Audible because, to me, the narrator was unlistenable. If I borrow an audiobook from Hoopla and find the narrator not to my taste, if I return it then I assume that counts against the number of “borrows” I am allowed for the month. Can we get a preview button? Also, it would be great is the app would allow the user to adjust the jump forward/jump back times. 15 seconds isn’t much (especially if you fall asleep while listening in bed). Audible lets you adjust in increments and Libby lets you swipe for longer jump back times. Both of those things would be great, but for me —/a preview before borrowing is essential! Thanks much. Otherwise a very nice app

Ok app not good though. I listen to audio books. This app has much of what other audio book apps have, but it’s a clumsy interface. One problem is on the playback interface when you try to use the slider to go backwards and forward in the book, It changes to another page of the interface. Setting the sleep timer is hard. The interface on that page is very messy. Both the bookmark and sleep timer, as well as the book information should be accessed via buttons on the playback interface. The history interface should be sortable by date, author and title. There should be a filtering tool to choose to display books based on attributes such as genre, author, series name. When selecting a book the information interface should clearly show if the book had previously been checked out. Perhaps the “Borrow” button could be changed to “Borrow Again”.

I Live On This App. I can't believe how much I use this app. I'm on it all the time. Be it listening to audiobooks in my car, reading graphic novels on lunch breaks, taking ebooks on vacation, streaming videos at home, it's probably my most used app. It's not without bugs. I've had it lose my place a couple times when listening to audiobooks, though that problem seems to have been fixed with recent updates. It's also been inconsistent when it comes to syncing graphic novels across my devices. Sometimes I can be reading a graphic novel on my iPhone and then pick up my iPad and it will remember where I left off. Other times I can read a graphic novel on one device but it won't let me even download, let alone sync, the item to another device. Bugs aside this app has an intuitive interface, offers a great selection, and items are always available. What's not to love? My main real complaint is that I hardly ever make it into my physical library anymore because this app makes so much available at my fingertip. Great app!

Thank you

Awesome app but needs some improvements. I am so thankful for this resource from the Phoenix Public Library. It is great! However, it isn’t exactly user friendly yet. Why can’t we deliver books to our Kindles like with Libby(Overdrive)? So I could read books on my Kindle Paperwhite and not have to purchase a Kindle Fire just to use the app. Why can’t we copy and paste highlights? Also highlighting is a bit wonky and glitchy in the app. It is hard to select the passage desired as it jumps forward or backward on the page. We also can’t seem to export our highlights and notes either, which would be helpful. Also, is there some way of connecting our Hoopla account to our Goodreads? Kindle is connected to Goodreads and all my updates and highlights show up there as well. It would be great if some of these issues could be addressed, but thankful for this resource as it seems to offer much better selection than Libby(Overdrive), at least the books I want to read. So, thank you, and I hope this app continues to grow! :)

wonderful yet there are problems with content. Recently something odd appeared in the items to be borrowed and when I reached out to Hoopla support, I received an automated reply. I’m on round three of responding to automated replies in regards to a seemingly first-chapter rough draft that is being offered as a publication- and no longer do I have the energy to push forward. I only wanted to point out a non-technical problem however hoopla appears to only have support for technical issues. I will continue to enjoy the service; I am grateful for the borrows. hoopla certainly is a wonderful option to augment the digital borrows from my local library system. However Hoopla contains content which isn’t valid and does not have resources to accept that feedbck unfortunately. Luckily borrow count renews each month so the wasted borrows go away eventually. If they had support or any form of quality control at all this would be 5 stars.

Ridiculous limits and contracts. I have used this app for months now. First, having a limit of 6 books a month is ridiculous. Once I figured out a pace to listen to the audio books and not get stuck with the limit things were going great. Now I am getting an error message that the daily borrow limit has been reached. It was explained that it is for the library as a whole. Well, this must be new because I never had that pop up until months into using it. I was told to borrow as close to midnight as possible, I am sorry WHAt? People work, we can’t all stay up all night to try to borrow a book. I have tried to borrow at 4am, nope daily borrow limit reached already. This limit that my library supposedly set b must be like 5 books for the entire library because this is absolutely ridiculous. I make sure I tell people about this, it is super frustrating when you are in the middle of a series and can’t move on to the next book. In honesty, I like the variety of books, but I feel this app isn’t worth it due to never being able to borrow anything anymore. Really debating on deleting this app

What a Fool Believes. I was born in 1960 so I’ve been listening to Michael ever since I can remember. More than likely the first recollection is when he was with the Doobies. I grew up in a household with 5 older sisters. With the oldest being a 14 year spread. One of those gals had a turntable so there was always a 45 or a 33 spinning. My little hometown of Shelby, Ohio had a record store where I bought my first 45. Loved going there after school and looking through the records. Anyway I gathered from the book Mike wasn’t at some point during his career to happy about appearing on others albums, but I always dug hearing him make his appearance or singing a duet❣️ I was always rather happy with myself over the years when I can pick out singers making an appearance as a guest and not a lead. Michael of course was a pretty easy one for me. I never (well maybe) got to see him live. I say maybe because I did see the Doobies in the late 70’s, but only once and I’m mad that I cannot remember if he was with them. He’s eight years older than me, but he sure has a better memory. Heavens I can’t remember if it was in Cleveland or Columbus. I’m pretty certain it would’ve been one of those. Anyway I love, love audio books especially when I’m reading a memoir and the narrator is the real deal. I also take out the actual book to read in bed at night or whenever I’d rather read instead of listening. Great job Mike.

Bye!

A Heartfelt Thanks to hoopla. Hoopla is a true gem for book lovers and lifelong learners. This online platform allows users to check out books, audiobooks, movies, and more—all from the comfort of their own homes—using just a local library card. It’s a brilliant way to bring the library to you, no matter where you are. For individuals who are homebound, juggling busy schedules, or simply prefer digital access, Hoopla offers a seamless and empowering experience. The app is intuitive, the selection is impressive, and the instant borrowing feature means no waiting in line or worrying about late fees. What I especially appreciate is how Hoopla bridges accessibility and enrichment. Whether you’re diving into a new novel, exploring documentaries, or listening to a bedtime story with your child, Hoopla makes it all possible with just a few taps. Thank you to the creators of Hoopla and the libraries that support it—this service truly makes a difference in people’s lives.

Frustrating new swiping audio. I admit I hadn’t updated in a while, so I’m not sure when this change happened, but the new version of the audio reader is AWFUL for me. I’m constantly accidentally advancing or rewinding by accident, which is a BIG PAIN even though I’m a heavy bookmark user. Part of the reason this happens is that swiping to the bookmark page often doesn’t work unless I swipe to the timer/speed page first and then swipe back. But there is nothing so awful as intending to bookmark but instead rewinding/fast forwarding. Worst is when it happens in the car. I like to bookmark each time I stop listening, because I also listen when falling asleep, and in the car I like to be able to return to a bookmarked spot if I stopped paying attention. The new extra-rewind on the 15-second button also irritates me, perhaps because I LIKED being able to tap four times to go back a minute rather than a random huge amount, tempting me to use the slider even though that level of attention is not compatible with safe driving. In fact, the whole swiping thing is totally incompatible with safety for me, because unlike swiping to the next song, each of the audiobook screens requires me to look and read it to accomplish what I used to be able to do with a tap. Couldn’t these options co-exist? I have 0 needs to see the cover art of my audio book in ever-larger size. In addition, I really, really wish I could delete individual bookmarks so I wouldn’t have a scroll-requiring list (or worse, no way to put accurate markers in a book I’m re-reading.) I generally love Hoopla, the selection, the inclusion of movies and music, and no-holds-messiness are a cut above Overdrive despite my library’s 5 checkouts a month policy. But the new audiobook interface may kill my usage.

Great site/Good app with caveats. Great selections for movies, audio and e-books. If you use rental services for movies, audio books and e-books, you should check here first to see what is available and save your money. Because they only allow 12 items per month, I feel that any item returned before the allotted time frame should free the space for selecting another book/movie in its place. This is especially important for movies and series or episodes. They allow 3 days for movies and episodes/series but if you are watching episodes of more than 12, you have to wait till the next month. It would be better to return the episode or movie and check out another to replace it while still keeping the total number at 12 per month. For this reason, I dropped a star but otherwise, no complaints. They just need to consider that watching something that has more than 12 episodes (Great Courses has 30) would be more serviceable with returns equaling an exchange that keeps the number quota per month. Another factor in the returns equal exchange in monthly allotment is the usefulness in returning something you don’t care for without being penalized for using one of my 12. Also, Not being able to preview a movie or sample an audio or e-book how would I know if I want to keep it? If the audio narrator sounds horrible or a movie or audio book is not to my liking and I return it, I feel that I’ve wasted my monthly allotment . Would really like to see something implemented about the options given.

Nice idea, but.... It's a great app to catch up on books that I don't have to buy first. This has enabled me to be able to make a more educated guess before purchasing. But I've had problems more than once with books that download, then don't play. After contacting Support I had hoped that I would be given the "rental" back or not have it count against me, but no luck there. I started not to write this, but it just happened again with another rental. Great concept, but I don't like checking out something, not being able to read it, then not getting the rental taken out of the number I can check out. I see reviewers list a different number of rentals they can do per month. Mine is 8, I've seen 4, I've seen 10. Don't know what makes each one different. And I agree it does seem odd that even if you return a rental you can't check out another one if you've reached your max for the month. Also had quite a few times that the app has crashed. Rebooting my iPad doesn't seem to make a difference.

It’s the way you kick me…..off. So first I’ll say that the 3 stars I rated the app comes from the following: 1- the apps intended purpose “ any app with the intent to put books in any form into the hands or ears of the mass deserves a star right off the top “at least in my not so humble at times opinion” 2- how easily it is to understand whatever the purpose of said app is but also the ease of use. For example someone like my mother who is an 80 yr old daily iMac user but who has picked up her iPhone maybe 5 times in 6 months to be open the app and within just a few moments understand what she is looking at and how easily she is able to navigate and utilize it. 3- the cost if any vs other apps of a similar nature. Obviously being free is as good as it gets to most people. Like I said, super simple! Now…. The rating is 2 stars less than it was originally rated a couple of years ago bc the last couple months it’s like there’s just glitch after glitch that seems to be getting worse vs better. What’s happening is that the app when opened and regardless of the screen you choose, just as soon as you begin to scroll or type in the search bar the page completely closes and your directed back to the opening screen and regardless of power cycling the phone or iPad or deleting the app and reinstalling it just isn’t working. However if I use the hoopladigital webpage from my Mac there isn’t this issue or any others. Please fix it, and you will get your two stars back as soon as you do. Thank you.
