I Passed.... If you sit down and get focused this test prep will help you. Went to take my FII and IRA in the same day and passed both. Main studying came from the Prepware (outside of ground school). Great stuff and will be using for Commercial also!

Good app,however..... It's strange to use on the iPhone xs Max because it can't fill the entire screen

Great App and WELL worth the money!!!. This is a great app. I used ASA app for both the Private Pilot and IFR Rating test and both were above 90%. There are is a “Study Mode” which was useful. Explanations were provided. Maps, graphs and other references were provided, similar to the test. It looks and feels just like the test which made the test a breeze. My scores were within a percent or two of my actual exam score. They update the questions when changes to the test become available. In 2014 the FAA changed a number of questions and I was assured by ASA, the developer of the App that and update is on the way to include these changes. For the money you CANNOT beat it.

Same as the other guy. Good study questions but a save button that actually has a resume button would be nice. And a spot where it shows the questions that needs the most help on.

Good, not great.. This app has a very simple interface but has allot of data, sometimes not the best combination. I am not saying that having a simple interface is bad, but when you put over 1,000 questions on practice test app and don't put the ability to search through those 1,000 questions, save test results or even just uncheck material of questions you don't need you can start to see the flaws. Again, it works, its just WAY too user friendly to a point where the user is handicapped. For example, the instrument airplane study option only gives you 60 questions at a time. Lets say you had a question wrong, learned the error and decided you wanted to retake the test. However, since there are over 1,000 questions mixed up into 16 chunks of 60 questions each the likelihood of ever receiving that question again is unlikely, therefore, the person might forget it. If you think you are getting a similar version to the desktop software, you will be sadly disappointed. Gooday.

Bug. Great study app. HOWEVER, when using the "Study mode" if you leave and return and pick-up where you left off (extended time/a day or so) the software reverts to "Quiz Mode" and will not continue highlighting the correct answers; also the explanation link will be missing. Please correct this problem. I can't study all the questions in one sitting. Thank you.

Don't view the figures. Was a great app before the update you guys need to fix the bugs, you can't go back to the question when you look at a figure, the back button just disappears. And I can't take an entire test all the way through I either have to shut my iPad off or re download the app which takes too long and wastes my progress, seriously fix it

Instrument prepare. content excellent but the mechanics have some problems. The program shuffles the questions each time it starts so if you don't do the whole category (100+ questions) then it starts over in a new order. The program also restarts in test mode even though you were last in study mode. BUT many pluses if what younlike is compact content and a sound explanation of the right answer. Other than the problem above I would like to see a waynto skip questions which do not apply to my equipment. Good for a competency ride but not for the written.

Don't use this application. After studying this app and taking multiple practice tests scoring in the 90s I felt more than confident to take the actual exam.. come to find out I took the actual exam today and failed scoring a 68. At least half of the exam didn't contain questions from this APP.

Needs HUGE update for recent FAA changes. I hate to give ASA a negative rating, because July 2016, their Private Pilot test app was DEAD ON!!! Questions were verbatim. I scored 98%. With the recent evolution to the FAA testing, this Instrument app question bank was no where near to some of the questions on the Instrument Airplane written exam. I'm not here to slam ASA, because they have great products, but just FYI, do not use this as a sole study method to pass the Instrument Airplane exam. Dauntless was my main app for studying, and even their question bank was lacking, it is an awesome app on explanations of correct answers and teaching principles. It is quite more expensive than ASA, but I owe Dauntless for my 90% score yesterday on the Instrument exam. But beware, the changes to the FAA question bank is real. The test was not easy at all. I've even heard Sheppard Air hasn't caught up to the recent changes. Good luck to all.

ASA Instrument lacking in questions. Not one question from the ASA app for Instrument was on my written. I took the test April of 2019. ASA was great for private just not Instrument. After my test, I found all the questions from my written test in another test prep software. Some of my peers said all there questions were ASA questions so I guess it is look. Sheppard Air had about 500 additional study questions. I like the ASA app format better than Sheppard Air, but Sheppard Air has all the questions.

Poor Updates. I just took the instrument knowledge test and I received a 78%. Over half of the questions were not in this app. I believe this may have been because the FAA is changing a lot of their questions as of 15 June 2016. ASA did NOT provide any daily, weekly, or even monthly updates to the test bank other than the standard roughly once a year app update. I think they should at least send out bulletin alerts to their customers within the app or email to explain upcoming changes and how this would affect the effectiveness of the test bank provided. Suggestions to make this app better: 1. Offer payment or store credit to customer providing test questions and answers. 2. Update the app, questions or send bulletins at least monthly if there are changes or no changes. 3. The save progress feature either does not work on my iPad or it is very difficult to easily find my left off point. I am using an iPad Mini 4 running iOS 9.3.2

New update is incredibly inconvenient. The app was decent prior to the new update, but now the correct answers are no longer shown in green when grading an unanswered practice test. This makes studying extremely time consuming and not worth the money.

It's just not good. It's an iPad app so you would expect it to be better than a book because you can save your progress and what not, but this app literally has no features what so ever. Now that wouldn't be not too bad if the questions were in the same order every time. You can save but if you take a test or switch to a different category of questions you lose everything making the task of seeing all the questions ridiculously difficult.

Gleim is Better. Although this app has a positive side, which you don’t need internet to use. However, the sequence of the questions are always random and doesn’t keep your progress nor does it provide any reports of performance.

Not good at all. The worst app , some question does not even have de figures and some of the figures has nothing to do with the question . I want my money back

Crippled to the point of uselessness. This app allows marking of questions (presumably so you can review them later). The problem is the marking is removed when you return to the main menu, which makes the marking pointless. Another problem is wrong answers are not recorded, so there is no way to go back and review answers. In sum, not worth the price.

Dark Mode Broken. Dark mode breaks the look of the app with latest versions of iOS and iPadOS. Otherwise a great study tool.

Great supplement. The simple layout of this app is why I made the purchase. At this price prepware is a steal. I use the full price software when I have time to study in front of a computer and I use the apps when I am at work or school taking a break. The main issue I have is that the test questions don't update often enough, however, if you study the questions and understand the concepts this will help you pass either way! Buy the app! It will help!

A great study tool, an excellent refresher!. Used this app to study and prepare for my instrument written (passed with a 90% score). It's nice to be able to choose blocks of questions on specific topics, but this app shines when it comes to taking complete practice tests. 4 stars because some practice test questions do not allow you to access the appropriate figure needed to answer the question (IIRC it was on the minimum rate of climb questions). I took many practice tests with this app right up until my check ride, and I really think keeping all the info fresh in my head made the oral portion of the test easier.

Can't save questions?. We need to be able to save questions across study sessions. How about a study session where I can use marked questions to make up that study session? I need a way to focus on the areas and questions I keep missing instead of just shotgunning all of the questions back at me each time I start up a study session!

Wrong questions. This app needs to be updated! The questions on this app are not the questions on the test.

Awful for rotorcraft students. There’s a large number of fixed-wing specific questions in the rotorcraft section.

Very Helpful. This is a good application for the money. I also purchased and went through the King course and used their sample tests. This app allowed me to study for the written while traveling on business and sitting on commercial flights. It has several bugs that still need fixing. Most times when you save and exit, the app doesn't save your work and you have to start over. Also some of the legends the questions refer to i.e. the glide slope tables provided to you for the test are not shown as figures on app. Having said that, the application was key to my success as I completed the FAA written today with a 90%.

Hard to see some images. I have the book, the pc version, and now this version of Asa prepware. The program Is useful but hard to see the figures. Some of the scans did not some over well. Particularly the weather graphics. Originals are not perfect either but one in particular I can not see any shading that is mentioned in question.

Great app if on the go.. This app allowed me to study when I had some down time at work and school, but it still needs to tell you your percentage of questions you got wrong in each sentence and on open it should start and fresh and basically almost duplicate the software on pc

Need work. Nice to have this info in an app, but the app needs work. One big issue is saving. The "save and exit" button needs to be used every time or else the resume button disappears next time i start the app. Suggestion would be to autosave and have a clear progress button.

Nice & helpfully app. I took my FAA written test for private studying from Asa's apps and I got good results! Now I'm preparing for the instruments rating test with this app! Thank you Asa for this incredible study material.

Please update. I did yesterday the test and quite all the questions were different from the app. Be aware guys !

Fantastic app. I used ASA prep ware to study for both my private and instrument written and I'm about to buy the commercial app to study for my commercial written. Thanks to this app I made an 82 on my instrument written. Although some of the questions were not word for word on the test, the principles remained almost spot on. As long and you understand why the answer is what it is instead of trying to memorize everything, you'll do great. Good luck!

Doesn’t support iPhone X yet. Taking my test soon so I’m not sure how well it has actually prepared me yet. Complaints were made that it was out of date, seems there was an update after most of those reviews were written.

New version is much improved. UPDATE: New version is much improved. Works great on the iPad. Very happy with update I have been using the other instrument test prep which is pretty good, but has no explanations. I like the explanations, but have a few ideas for improvement: My intial thoughts- 1. Do not like the font - hard to read and a little small. Maybe could be a little fatter? 2. When you answer a question in study mode there should be a bold indication of right or wrong. As it is now the letters change colors from black to red or green. Very easy to miss, especially with the smallish font. 3. Would like a running tally of missed questions vs. total. As it is, you have to press grade and any question you have not answered is totalled as wrong. I usually have an extra few minutes and answer 10-20 questions, don't always have time to do 60 questions. The scan files are quick to load and easy to pan (charts and tables). Which is very nice. Otherwise looks pretty good. Look forward to some minor tweaks. I'll report back after a week of full useage.

Great Study Tool. This app works well and is simple to use. There is one little problem I did just run into though, on some answers that are longer than the three lines of text that is provided, the end of the answer is cut off and impossible to read. Other than that, this is a great app. Good job ASA.

New Question Bank. This app’s questions are out-dated. I took my instrument written in November of 2018 and there were maybe only 5 questions from the ASA test prep on there. My buddies who studied from (a different well known company) said that all of their questions were pretty much the same. I’m pretty disappointed as I loved the ASA’s Private Pilot app, but I think from now on I’m going to switch to a different company to study from for my commercial.

Save feature is broken and useless. The app has good study questions and is a very useful study aid. However, there are two issues. First, the Save feature doesn't work. If you are just working the questions in study mode and you want to save your answers so far and return later, choosing "Save and Exit" apparently does nothing. When you return, any answers you had entered are lost. Same is true if you choose to Grade in the study mode. It would be very useful to work the problems, then come back and review the ones you missed, but here is no way to do this. Second problem: the figures are a bit low-res. not an issue for the instrument interpretation questions, but on the chart and weather maps, which are already disgraceful in quality in the official FAA supplement, sometimes important information is illegible.

Pilot. It is very helpful, but, when you haven't the a chapter and then pass a few minutes, the progress you have done, you lose it, and have to start it all over again.

Prepware instrument prep. Frankly, this app is disappointing. If the answer is longer than three lines, the remainder is truncated and you must guess what is missing. Additionally, the figures that are linked to the questions are sometimes incomplete and, again, you must guess. I am comparing this app to a similar PC app...this is not an iPad vs pc thing...I am comparing the usability of the content -- which should be the same. On one question where I thought that this app had insufficient reference figures, I compared it to the same question in the other app...the other app had 3 reference figures whereas this app had only 2. And yes, the extra figure did contain the info that I thought was missing. If you are studying for the IFR written, look elsewhere. If you are looking for something to do a quick review just before your oral, I.e. reviewing stuff you should already know, this app will probably work out okay.

UPDATE THIS ASAP. ASA is losing credibility having not updated such an important app for such a long time. Barely any questions on here filter through to the actual written!

It's Okay. I have used this application for about 10 hours now. It's okay for what it's supposed to do, however it needs some improvements to get a 5 star rating. For long questions sometimes part of the question has been truncated and can't be seen. This is usually true with flight planning questions where the wind information gets truncated. This makes it difficult to answer the question correctly. Some of the figures are at too low of a resolution making them difficult to read There is no way to store previous test scores or show progress. Sometimes in study modes it stops showing the correct answer for each question.

97% on Instrument Written. I read all the reviews and was nervous because many people said this did not adequately prepare them for the written exam. I spent just one week on the app and when I took the test for the first time on September 26, 2019 I got 97%. The app does not have identical questions to the FAA test, and that’s okay. It’s not supposed to. You are supposed to learn how the systems work and know how to apply them to any situation. This app does a great job of giving examples, and if you actually study what you are supposed to learn, you will pass the test easily. The skill of being a good pilot is not about having wrote memory and just regurgitating answers from an app. Use this as a tool to become a good pilot and you’ll do fine on the test.

Needs to have questions corrected. Many of the question/answer pairings make no sense or are incorrect.

Good, for only 40%. Worth 10$ thou Helped me to get ready for written

Fixed! Thank you!!!. With this update, things seem a bit cleaner, faster, and I can't make it crash even if I try! I have the CFI as well. Thank you ASA. Looking forward to future updates, and more aviation apps from you! Would love to have the CX-2 on my iphone, any plans for that?

Many questions are wrong. I studied very well, I was getting more than 95% grade score on the app, when I went to do the test it was completely different and some questions weren't mentioned in ASA app at all, so be careful , besides that many questions were answered in a wrong way in the app.

Sunlight. It is almost impossible to see the correct answer in sunlight. Make the background red or green instead. There is a bug, quizzes becomes a test when the app has been inactive for a while. REALLY irritating. Cannot save quizzes or mark questions.

Works. This was the only thing I used to study for the instrument and FII test. I only had 5 days to study for the test so I ran out of time and wasn't able to go through all of the questions but I still got a 87% on the Instrument and a 90% on the FII. My advice is go through all of the questions until you know them then do the practice tests, it worked for me!

Good Instrument Rating Practice Test App.... This app does use the same bank of questions used by the FAA and its does give a good representation of the actual mix of questions on the actual test. I just took my test this week and scored an 85%. I do wish these prepware apps had a way to eliminate the questions that i know well so i can concentrate on those I need to work on.

Working on instrument rating. The private was on point, I recommend alternative means for instrument studying.

Good value. While the app might not have the fancy features of its competitors (videos, fancy indicators and buttons), for its price it has an excellent value as it does include an updated database of the questions in an easy to study format. I'm studying for my IFR and already have books and videos, was missing an easy cheap and reliable app for my iPad with just questions.

Please add a timer and number of questions selection.. Just like other ASA applications it is a really good app, but it would be great to have time! Also, it would be good to have "number of questions" function and ability to choose multiple study areas in "study" mode.

No figures. There are some questions we need to use figures to answer it, but this app simply doesn't display them!

Ok.... The new update smells... Can't go back when you open a figure...... Fix this soon please.

Good but needs work. Being that this is v 1.2 the programs works for a nice review before your written test or maybe oral. As for a trainer, it's lacking some basic elements such as saving a study sections, reviewing marked questions for later and saving your answer and displaying the correct answer in the study mode. Also some features seem to work only in port it vrs landscape.

Bad update. Most of the questions and answers are not complete. 50 percent of a question is missing on numerous questions.

Awesome. This is great, and so much cheaper than the computer versions!

Some figures are not loaded and some are wrong figures not belong to the question. Some figures are not loaded and some are wrong figures not belong to the question

great. Same questions you'll find on the FAA written.

Only worth 9.99. I used this for instrument and CFII. I was getting 96-98 consistently on the practice test and each written exam I only scored 83...on both exams. I have used other test prep in the past and scored in the high 90's each time. I would recommend using a different product.

Poor study program. You will have buyers remorse on this one if you are really wanting to study for the written. No way to go back and study the ones you missed or marked. Some of the answers and questions are cut off and you have to guess at what comes next.

Looses yes. Great for questions, but app closes by itself, or looses a test you may be taking, if you minimize it to do something else :-( they need to come out with a save option, so you can finish tests or review previous taken tests

Not bad. Great app to study. Many misspellings.

Needs update. Very convenient when you are a full time flight student balancing a full load of college courses, but it needs an update for the retina display. Not having retina support at this point is inexcusable.

Disappointed. After taking about 50 practice exams with this program and scoring in the 80s-90s I felt very confident that I would do well on the written. Took the test today (Sep. 26 2019) and saw about three questions on the actual test that I saw in all the practice exams and study sessions. I squeaked by and passed but was really disappointed to see over 55 questions that I had never seen before. Very sad because ASA was key to passing my private written but i think I’ll be going with another software company from here out. Highly recommend you don’t use this app as your sole study source for the instrument written.

Best option for the $. I have had no problems with any IPad version of prepware. I've gotten over 90% on all of my FAA written tests.

Screwed up with latest update. Numerous bugs with latest update made this version unusable. Can't get back to question from the figure display is one of them

not realistic tests. I passed 20 practice exams with this app scoring in the mid 80s. Then sat for the real thing and most the questions I'd never seen in my life. I failed.

Useless. Crashes way too often!

Has potential. This would be a really great app if it didn't crash halfway through a test everytime I tried to use it. Very frustrating to say the least. It would be a nice application but the crashes make it useless. Ill stick with my Gleim book.

Few bugs. A few of the answers are cut short and the needs to be a better way to save Easy to use I took my instrument airplane with a 82% in 35 minutes and my instrument helicopter with an 85% in 18 minutes Don't just take practice tests, go through every question in study mode.

Just get it. It will be worth it.. If you are serious about passing your written test, get this app.
