Ship Finder Lite App Description & Overview

What is ship finder lite app? Ship Finder shows live moving ships on a worldwide map.
You can even use Augmented Reality (AR) view to identify ships out at sea using your device camera.

Ship Finder has been top rated and top ranking since 2009 and covers most of the world, tracking 20,000+ ships simultaneously.

Our incredible app performance means that you can see all tracked vessels at once - no clustering here!
Simply tap on a ship to see it's name, type and destination. Colour coded icons make identification easy too.

If you like this app you'll love the full version of Ship Finder.

The full version includes a huge array of additional features including route history, search, filters, bookmarks, photos, the ability to add favourite ships and much more.

Ship Finder works by picking up AIS ship feeds used by all passenger vessels, vessels over 300 tons and increasingly by smaller pleasure craft and yachts. This technology is actually faster than radar and is used by vessels for safety and navigation.

Ship Finder provides near real time “virtual radar” AIS maps. It’s easy to use and is an amazing app for anyone interested in shipping, cruising and sailing in ports and locations across the world. It’s also great if you simply want to know what boats are out there or want to see where your friends and family are. Ship Finder is also used extensively by maritime professionals and mariners.

Our global AIS coverage is impressive and expanding all of the time as we add new AIS feeds and receivers. Please check www.shipfinder.co regularly to see the latest coverage.

Pinkfroot are committed to customer service and continually improve our Ship Finder apps based on feedback. Why not join our online community at www.pinkfroot.com or if you have any questions please email us via support@pinkfroot.com and we’ll be happy to help.

Ship finder. We camp at algonac state park and we’re very disappointed that you have to pay to upgrade in order to see where the ships are

Great concept, but killed by pop up ads. I am able to view the ship information, but a pop up ad every five clicks is pretty ridiculous. Banner ads are one thing. Annoying pop-ups are enough to cause me to delete the app. No app = no ad revenue. The app publisher needs to pay attention. FindShip is a free app that does the same thing, without as many ads.

Excellent. Very accurate. ATONs well done.

Great for cruises. I used it to locate and name passing ships passing by and who were in port with us. I used it to locate where we were and names of islands passing by. Tracking our location and using the tracer to show directions was very interesting. I took screenshots of our location at sea and in port to add highlights to my travel videos. Very useful and entertaining.

Excellent App. I really enjoy using this app when I am on the beach.

Awesome dude!. You guys are really REALLY helpful. Thank you for the live maps. I five star rate this app! I can find the ships I want! But the issue is you guys can’t show the boats in hawaii. But thank you for everything! I can find cruise lines! That’s my favorite! But the pop up ads are so annoying. The boats move SO fast! 🛳❤️🚢❤️ you guys are the best!

What happened to boat destinations. We live near a small shipping port on Lake Erie. My grandson and I check to see what boat is coming to our port and the ETA. Where did this feature go?

Great App but?. Like others, I use this app to track incoming container ships to the port. I and others at work would like to see an alert feature that sends you a notification once the particular vessel/boat crosses a predetermined location. For example if I needed to know when the vessel passes a bridge, having a notification informing you of this. Is this something possible?

Fairly useless except as a toy.. If you need or want to track or find a particular vessel this app is worthless.

Trial app is very restrictive. Downloaded the free version to get a feel for the app. However, the features I’m interested in are all only available in the $5 app. I’m unable to really do much of an evaluation. For example, it the app doesn’t seem to display ships that are moored. Since the settings feature is unavailable in the free version, I don’t know if this can be turned on or not.

Doesn’t work. Dropped this app a year ago because it stopped showing barge traffic on Mississippi River. Re down loaded app again last night. Had 3 barges come by my cabin this morning and not one of them were tracked. Don’t waste your time with this app. It’s worthless!!!

Bad, real bad.. I have container ships all around me but not a one shows in this app. I also have a full blown AIS app and there they all are. What gives?

Not cool...SF Lite shows EXACTLY ZERO vessels.... Only your location is visible. You have to buy it. Plenty of other options out there. App Support takes you to photo sharing site for planes. Really!?! I’m deleting...even if developer fixes this bait/switch strategy.

Not going to buy. I tried the lite version and not user friendly at all. Why buy the full version. Seems like every button you hit takes you to either an add or a request to buy. Let me try a usable app to see if I like it. I used findship before but apparently it is no longer available.

Hmmmmmm. Why would I buy the paid version when the “lite” version does absolutely nothing. Does not show a thing other than a nice map of where I am. Not a single vessel.

No tracking. No tracking unless you pay. This service is free on other apps.

Nothing to see here. When I first got this app last year you could see a few ships here and there. Now it never seems to load you’re lucky to get one every once in a while. It even says sometimes zero or one ships out of 3000 to 4000 ships.

What’s up?. Awesome app. Has always worked for me at the Atlantic cal oats of Virginia Beach. That is until this week.. No ships showing up at all in this Mid-Atlantic coast. What’s up? Is tracking system down??

Chesapeake Bay Travels. Nice app to keep up on all the coming and going of motor vessels cruising the Chesapeake.

SF Lite. Here I sit on the ship canal to Corpus Christi and there are no ships on the map, just a glowing blue dot. Plenty of ships visible up in Houston and all over the world but nothing showing for here. Evidently you need to get the paid version to see ships in your location.

Free version does nothing!. I understand that with a free version that you will either get some ads or have some features disabled, but with this version you get ads AND every thing is disabled! Why even bother?

Works great; invasive full screen ads. It works well but the free version has banner ads (that's OK) and invasive full screen ads (infuriating) that I couldn't close without force quitting the app.

Trying the trial version. No traffic appears in my area. Cape Cod. They should tell you this is not everywhere. Won’t be buying

Used to be great. The free version used to be great, but I guess once they updated it not so much anymore

Disappointing. This app does not show any of the boats in the Conn. River in Connecticut or the Long Island sound area. That would include mine and tens of others. All of which show up on my chart plotter.

Useless. Really useless! Whatever you try to click it tries to sell full version. You can’t search for a ship, only shows map with all ships which readily available on websites.

Bad APP. Not impressed! I was able to follow my brothers for only a short distance before they disappeared. Even when they told were they were they still didn’t show up!

Why’s it still available?. So many people have given it bad reviews! I’m also wondering why you have to give your credit card info in order to use the app? Definitely fishy. They want you to upgrade to an app that actually works. Also, seems like a great app to pay for if you are an ocean shipping pirate! I’m not.

Totally Useless. I purchased all the up grades. Can’t even locate my own boat with all of the correct information. Other Apps can. I had hoped for a trade up, but this certainly isn’t it.

Great Looper likes this app. We now have AIS aboard, but still like and use this app. Good to find others on the loop. (Not everyone has Nebo.)

Malicious behavior. I happened to open this app after having updated my password for a different app in LastPass. Surprise! I got a notification that Shipfinder had pasted from LastPass - It stole what was on my clipboard, which in this case happened to be a password. I will be deleting this app and Apple should remove it from the store. Even if the item on my clipboard had not been a password, stealing pasted data when I never asked to paste anything is malware behavior.

Was great, but not anymore. This app used to be great. We live on the Ohio river and I could track the barges moving up and down the river. When the app was “updated” nearly a year ago all that was lost. I see no ships on the map even as they are passing my windows. It isn’t just River traffic, we were in the Caribbean this winter and many large ships in the port and only a couple showed on the map. My husband even paid for the upgrade and it didn’t change, no river traffic and limited ships showing elsewhere.

Paywall / Every ship Suspected. This app marks every ship on its map as ‘Suspected’ in a nice bit red banner, yet offers NO explanation for this, unless you login. You can offer useful data in a free/lite app, there is no need to be this trivial about information that Should be shared freely.

Worthless. It only shows ships in port. There is no capability to search for a specific ship. No tracking ability.

Finding the ships names!. It’s always fun to see who’sTraversing past my house on Lake Huron!

Wheres all the ships?. I don’t see anywhere near the targets I see in other apps. What about the paid version? I’m not going to buy this app if it’s the same severely lacking data minus the ads

Helpful. We live in Duluth Mn right where we see the ships. I am interested in knowing what the name of the ship is. Also, I can locate a ship via Ship Finder that might be coming in and the Aerial Bridge will be going. I can plan my time leaving my home for appointment. Also if I am waiting for the bridge I can look on Ship Finders and know what ship I am waiting for. Thank You Ship Finders.

Free just shows where you are and no ships. Just downloaded this free app to see if I would be interested in buying the full version as I can see ships from my house in Honolulu. The info gave me the impression I would be able to track some ships but all I see is a blue dot where I am. Not purchasing until I can see how it works. Update: twice the developer has email me a generic email saying I can check coverage for free at plane finder. I’m not interested in planes, I downloaded the ship lite app. Still not working....

Not what appeared to be advertised. The images of the app in the App Store implied I would access details of the ships on the map. This is incorrect. That information is an in-app purchase. Also, I found this app while researching Maritime Traffic website and there were vessels listed on that map that are not shown on the free map of this app. Just simply not what was advertised (misleading images) and the data seems to be lacking.

Horrible now after some kind of change. This app has went to crap last few weeks. Does t work at all and I paid 4.99 for it Used to be wonderful

Missing vessels on inland rivers. I am currently on the Illinois River and I can see where I am. I’m on a towboat and i zoomed into where I am and not all large vessels are covered. Wish I could see other boats near me while off watch and even while off the boat could find where my boat is. It’d be a lot cooler if u did.

Ships around Corpus Chrtsti. Why does ship finder not show ships around Corpus Chrtsti??

Absolutely worthless app. This is absolutely thee worst app I have ever experienced. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT! All it is is a advert to try to make you purchase something they claim works for free, and then on top of that, they want to collect your personal data. As soon as I’m done writing this review, this thing is going into the trash!

Too many pop ops. Too many pop ups

Deleted it almost as soon as I downloaded….. Cannot find rather search bar to find a vessel, because every-time I touch something, I get loud, obnoxious ads. I understand the purpose of ads, but not every 10 seconds. Irritating app. They want to force you to pay, but if I can’t get past the free version, you are not getting my money.

Columbia River Bar Crossing. Great tool to identify traffic and communicate to vessels

Not much Info. I had the same app on my old phone and so much more information was available. The app now only gives you the name of the ship and if it is moving or still.

Great but. The ferry routes need to be updated for macknack island Arnold is no longer a ferry company star line owns both docks so could you update the map

Developers have given up. I have had the full app for about 10 months or so. Started out ok. Not as detailed as some other apps but ok. I live on the river in Detroit so I see lots of shipping traffic coming through and at first the app worked well with identifying the basics. Then about 3-4 months ago the feed for the area just stopped. Nothing shows up at all. I have contacted support multiple times and they would respond with we are checking on it. Now they don’t even bother to respond. I lost $5 not the most horrible thing to happen to me ever, it’s just annoying that this app is still out there. Do not buy this. Go with any other app than this.

Danger: loud ads without warning. This app looks interesting, but while using it just played a loud ad without warning, while my wife was lecturing from home. The loud noise resumed even when I left and reentered the app, so I can’t safely say any more about the app.

What Does it find?. Finds a lot of ships in some areas but none in others even when they are sitting in front of you. Maybe paid version is better.

Really Handy. I live in Melbourne and now when I watch the boats come in and out I can get a heap of info on them.

Do not use. Do not use unless you want to be bombarded with adverts every two seconds. Find another app

Review. Good info to have as I look out over the bay and wonder what ship is what. 😊

Terrible. Can’t even search, every second click pops up a full screen ad, horrible UI. Terrible app. If you’re going to release a freemium app, you need to make the free version at least semi usable.

Not great. I also use the computer site but the app does not show many vessels visible on my laptop. Frustrating. They clearly have the data but it does not appear on the app.

Do NOT waste your money. As a bit of a ship enthusiast I purchased this app for $5.99 a total waste of money. It does not show correctly what ships are passing by and does not update. I would recommend spending another $2 and getting the MarineTraffic app instead

Great Tool. Works well on the bay, a useful tool to check movement on the Yarra before entering the river

Intermittent ship locations. I purchased the full version of the ap to track certain cruise ships. Sometimes they are there then a few hours later they can’t be seen. Golden princess was visible while docked in Melbourne but as soon as it set sail it disappeared. Not worth buying.

No ships. Why can’t l see any ships shouts coast nsw aus

Skip. Really enjoying the ease of this app

Ship finder. Great app, highly recommended, use it most days.

Rubbish. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who looks at free versions before buying premium. Inaccuracy (ships in the middle of land) and incessant pop up adverts, screwed any good will and encouragement to upgrade. Such a shame as this developers other apps are very good.

Ship forecast. I work as a stevedore and It's nice to see if there's ships docked at the wharf or if there's some up ahead it tells me if there is work coming. Very useful app for me

Pacific Eden Passenger. Downloaded this app so I could track Pacific Eden. Shows most other ships except Eden. Paid $7.99 to find it. What a waste of money and time. Downloaded Vessel Finder lite and there I find Pacific Eden. Don’t purchase Ship Finder.

Why?. You can be standing watching ships out at sea, yet the app says there isn't any! WHY? Plane finder also does this same anoying thing!

This might as well be an app for ads.. I have had the app for quite a while and now you offer it with ads or purchase to remove ads. Honestly there are so many ads popping up I thought the ship finder part was getting in the way of the pop up ads then I remembered that the ship finder part was the the app I used to have. I understand the ads is a way for you to make money but surely you could put them on as a banner either bottom or top. The user experience is getting to a point that I don’t want to use the app.

Was a good app...once.. Used to be a good app. Now it is covered in adverts and absolutely no information relevant other than ships name, bullying a customer into paying for the upgraded (and usable) app is NOT the way to go.

Very handy. The app works very well on my iPad, only down side is the high number of full screen pop up advertising.

Easy to use. Real time update. Increasing number of Receiving stations. Quick real time updates.

No useful info. No point in a free app, that shows you know information on the ships other than the name. Waste of downloading.

Dispicable. Riddled with ads, that you can’t escape. Out of date information (hours out of date). Not good at all.

Director. Great tool use it all the time in our business

HandyVery Handy App. I used this App while travelling the Greek Islands and found it exceptionally useful Excellent app>

Ship finder. Having heaps of fun seeing ships in port Phillip bay and knowing where they come and go too. Amazing site

Good app. Good app for those watching commercial shipping traffic. Waiting for Brisbane to come online

Snap hill. Why would you even bother, this thing does nothing and if they expect you to buy the paid version in the basis of this rubbish, stay way!!

Ship Tracker. Watched ships come and go all my life while camping on the Mornington Peninsula - now we can give them a name. Good fun!

Absolutely terrible.. I downloaded to see cruise ships while I was near a harbour, and it is absolutely useless. I was standing in a location and navigated to it on the app, between ads, and boats it was showing to be there, just weren’t. The cruise ship didn’t show at all, and I couldn’t even use it to track pleasure craft and ferries as it was so out of date it was impossible. Oh, and the ads. Not only is there a banner ad, constantly, every time you click on a boat you get an ad. Absolutely useless. It’s honestly one of the worst apps I’ve ever used.

Can’t make it work. Happy to buy the paid version if the lite version could show me how it worked. Ads didn’t bother me, the fact it didn’t work stopped my purchase.

Adds. Get rid of the adds, very annoying the way they take over, otherwise good

Slambert. I paid $8.00 to get rid of the adds ,and I still have adds. I want it fixed or my money back.

Really annoying.... The app works and shows ships in areas where there are receivers to pick up the ships location transmitters... And I understand the concept of ad supported apps... And I understand about the free version having reduced features... BUT Shipfinder Free goes well beyond any acceptable limits on the frequency and obtrusivness of ads. It is almost unusable - to the point that it really annoys me enough to delete it.

Absolute RUBBISH. Opened app & deleted it within 60secs. Every basic feature eg: search for a ship name is a PAY upgrade feature. Even within 60secs I was spammed hugely with ads. Worst app I have ever downloaded & I've tried hundreds.

Ship finder. Not bad, very useful, frwaks out every now and then and wont work for a few days,

Cool little app. We use barges where we are currently working, and it's a handy little app to see how far away the next barge is, so we have an idea how long we are waiting. Cheers ship finder free...

Ok app. My husband works on a ship and sometimes the app finds his ship and other times says no ship in area when I know it is. Would be better if more reliable.

Doesn’t work for me. I’m sitting staring at a ship that apparently doesn’t exist

Pretty good. Doesn't show all ships but not bad overall

Waste of download. Can’t see any cruise ships. Waste of time downloading lite version. Have now deleted.

Useless. No sign of Caledonian Sky when it sailed down east coast of Australia

SCAM. Riddled with scam adds!! DOES NOT WORK !!!! WANTS MONEY ALL THE TIME FOR NO SERVICE! FOR SOME REASON ACCESSES ALL YOUR DATA AND THEN SELLS IT, GEE WONDER WHY..!!!! THESE PEOPLE ARE SCAMMERS .!!!

Ship Finder. When I'm not in the radio tower monitoring AIS this is a great app to have to hand out on our boat! Helps us monitor and keep the waters safe whilst also being able to track our own vessels from other flotillas, particularly useful during Search & Rescue Operations!!

Useless. Only picks up ships in a few select areas of the world. And even then many ships are missing. Wait until someone brings out a better one.

Worst app. Wish I could rate 0 stars you have to get the full version to do anything interesting its ridiculous how many pop up ads there are

Crashes. It crashes within 30 seconds of loading, every time. Plane finder free doesn’t have a problem, so it’s probably just a minor bug that needs fixing.

Ship finder. I find it really good if it doesn't pick up a ship it's transonder may be off

Australian ports now available. Works great and is very fast. Free version only shows ship name and location. But I see that the paid and web version is more detailed.

Just a place to hang childish advertising. Rubbish. Don’t waste your time or money.

Good for free. Generally good but as others say sometimes does not show ships that are there. Good for free. Is the pro version always accurate?

Not useful. No search and way too many pop ups Rather useless.

Poor app for Canada's east coast. Won't track any ferrys in NL

It is very good!. Works well. Do not like the pop-ups. Clear reference to what is going on on the waters of the Salish Sea.

Useless. Doesn't show any AIS ships and loaded with ads.

No east coast Canada info!. Interesting app with lots of Canada west coast information, but none for Atlantic Canada except St. John’s, Newfoundland. No ship activity in Halifax or Saint John, New Brunswick....????

Great tool. Use it all the time. Works great for my use.

No longer works.. Loved this app. But it no longer works since I updated my phone to ISO8. Map is blank says 0 of 2200 shown.

Ship Broker. Good value and informative app. Thank you!

Works great in Vancouver. Thinking about paying to get ship details. Matt

Bateaux. Salut. Malheureusement je ne vois pas tous les bateaux. Principalement ceux qui passent en face de moi sur le St Laurent. Bye

Crap. Crap......

Some cities work, others?. Not sure what is wrong. I see ships in Freeport, New York, St. Lawrence seaway, Great Lakes and St. John's NFL. But not in Miami, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax harbour. And there are ships, tugs and ferries there all the time.

Don’t waste your time. Can’t find anything

Not working. It used to show ships now I can't see any. Maybe it's iOS 8s fault. Please update

Usage. Can’t get much of it if you don’t pay

All ads, no ships. Deleting.

Crap. Just plain doesn't work for the St. Lawrence Seaway.

This app sucks!!. Downloaded the free app, upgraded for $6.99, but my car was charged & $18.38, still can’t see any ships around me! Don’t get ripped off like I did!

Purchased. Purchased the first version. No longer updating. Emailed them no response. Won’t spend the money again. Unreliable

Good app. Appears to think seaplanes are ships though.

Useless. Had the original ship finder free which became useless a while ago so I thought I would try the re-labeled "Lite" version before I laid out money for the paid version. It just never shows any ships in our area. At the moment I'm looking at two Bulk Carriers and a tanker anchored in outer Long Point bay on Lake Erie and nothing shows. It is showing NO ships on the Great Lakes except at the Locks on the Welland Canal. I guess the dozens of ships I have seen in the last two weeks have all sank and some how no one else noticed :-)

Limited searches. When I type in a ship name why doesn’t it come up? It only shows the vessels that are close to shore.

I need more. The upgrade app is a little rich at $6.99 . Will think about it .

Great app. Enjoy

Way too many ads even for a free version. Constant pop up ads make it unusable. Limited area coverage of tracking, not worth buying the ad free version.

Ship Finder Free. Great App for west coast living near, and traveling by the Ocean. Also, with family working on tugs and fishboats it is real fun experience.

Don't buy it!. Wouldn't pay for this. Searched Halifax Harbour and found no ships. Really? Free is the correct price for this app.

Excellent app. This app quickly and accurately locates and identifies ships at sea. I use it when kayaking to plan when to cross shipping lanes.

Galiano Island....Ferry arrivals. Ferries are often running late....great for keeping track of their arrival/departures....

Ship find that review. A great app I love it. following love ones at sea. General interest in ship movements on the West Coast of Canada. I'll give it five stars

Commentaire. Aimerais voir apparaître le bateau et son nom lorsque je le vois de mes yeux.

Lite version is crippled with adds.. I understand and expect add banners in a free lite version, but the constant interruptions of video adds makes this version unusable. I might consider a pay once and done version, but refuse to pay exorbitant subscription fees. Too bad they made this version unusable and offer no reasonably priced ad free version.

Garbage. Garbage unless you pay for it

Pop-ups!. Great app, annoying pop-ops and limited info on free version.

Ads. So many ads that it’s unusable. Get Marine Traffic instead.

Way too ads. I understand this is a free version but there are way too many ads that pop-up, you can't even really use the app. Limit the amount of ads and you might get people excited enough about the app to pay for the upgrade.

Completely useless.. The life version has absolutely no features whatsoever. Down MarineTraffic instead. It is also free but far superior.

Very disappointing app. All the vessels are not shown. For example, I saw at least 10 ships at sea while testing the app but only one of them was indicated on the map. There are also a lot of advertisements. Very disappointing...

Works but lacks detail in some areas. Toronto area is not showing up with any ships. It's showing only a few boats in all of Lake Ontario. There has got to be more boats out there than its showing.

Don't get!!. Total garbage!!! The new updates has ads popping up every ten seconds or less. VERY frustrating and essentially unusable.

Very helpful. I live on an island within the operating area of one of the largest ferry systems in the world and use the app to check if ferries are on time. It's accurate and easy to use and helps me avoid long waits at ferry terminals when the boat is late. It's also good for timing kayaking trips to avoid ferries and other shipping.

No details unlike the other apps. No details shown unlike the other apps

Useful. Great for quickly and accurately checking position of ferries. Appears to be less informative in low traffic areas.

Too much advertising. Had it on my phone less than 60 secs and was shown 3 ads. Deleted it straight away. Apps like these are little more than bait and switch vehicles and spam movers.

Too many ads. Too many pop-up ads, no search, vessels missing. Not recommended.

Crap. This app is a none stop effort to up grade every time you try to use it.

Way too many pop ups!. Way too many pop ups!

Unusable. So many ads (same one over and over) I spend more time waiting for them to end than I do using the app. I understand the need for ads but this is ridiculous. Save yourself the frustration and get something different. Deleted

Great app. Good for testing and watching other boats of interest. Very cool! Let me know when it goes on sale!

Very inaccurate plotting. Frustrating.. Very inaccurate plotting. Frustrating.

Works Great for What I Need. Works great!! I just set the geographic area I want to view, and poof. There it is. Works best when I have a late start at work, and I want to know if the ship is even pierside. I even tested it out with some tugs that I was watching in the harbor. It put them pretty close to their actual position.

Marina mgr. This is a super ap! I do want the full version but am reluctant to pay for the improved version when I've already paid more for the iPad one. I will say that this past Thursday it was remarkable in identifying the "great schooners" on the Chesapeake Bay. This limited version did as well as my husband's $$$ AIS ! Please let me know how to upgrade w/o paying a second time for the full HD version. It truly is a marvelous ap!!!

Thumbs Up From A Real Sailor. I work on a coastwise chemical tanker and I use this app to see where my ship is going or when she is going to arrive in certain ports. Just last month when I was about to join her I used this app in Tampa because my flight landed a lot earlier than the ship was scheduled to. It was raining outside and so I went to a couple restaurants in Ybor City and used this app to determine how long I could stay before I had to call a cab. Very handy! Adam Kroupa, 3/m M/V Charleston

Useless. Show 0 vessels around me while there are tens of them here.

Limited range. I have never been able to ships/boats in alaska

Bad AR. I can see 10 ships off my balcony. When I use the Augmented reality feature it doesn’t show any ships. So I deleted the app

Does not work!!. Not working on my iPhone 12 Max Pro!!!

This app is literally the worst. As I type this review I am looking at a ship off the coast that this app will not identify but I can see in aid ship finder is not great

Very Good. I purchased Marine Traffic but I like this a LOT better. I'm getting the paid version. It shows the vessel paths and has a lot better interface. Works great for Puget Sound.

Free app nope not free. Very limited, what is the point of this app if you can’t even search for a vessel

Always down. This app when working should be rated 4*, but it hardly ever works as it should.

Great App. Lets one see what is going happening on the water around you. Only gets info from vessels with navigation, so it won't show everything on water. App works great just like web site.

Is this a thing?. I purchased the full version, not the free version, a couple of years ago, and liked it and it seemed to be accurate within the San Francisco Bay area. Although certainly four bucks is not going to break the bank, I do have issues that when the upgraded, they deactivated my purchased version, requiring me to purchase again if I want the upgrade. Also, since I do not own the current version, will not let me review on the paid version. I understand subscription software, and how it is probably a better model long-term to ensure upgrades and maintenance, but this was not advertised as such, so find it sketchy and unethical bordering on bait and switch to not have disclosed that there would be continued purchases required to use it. I probably used it for a year before it vanished, but I would be incredibly upset if I had purchased it and the next month the new version came out, and deactivated my old version.

These ads makes the app unusable.... Might we well use the web ... just horrendous

Inexplicably spotty data. Of zero interest to me.. Zero ships visible off central Florida coast on a day when numerous cruise ships and many other vessels are in and around Port Canaveral. Deleted.

Features removed from SF Free. I upgraded to v. 2.2 because it said they removed the delay and ships are now displayed in real time. That's a good thing. But the bad thing is that they also removed the link for each ship that takes you to the info page with a photo of the ship, country of origin, etc. If I had known they were taking that away, I would not have upgraded. That info page was the most interesting part about using this app. Now, you only see a map with the ship icons and if you click on a ship, you can see it's name and type (tug, pleasure craft, etc.), but nothing else. They failed to mention they were taking that feature away in the upgrade notes. The app is now boring to me and I am deleting it. I don't know if that link to the additional info page for each ship still exists in the paid version or not... I would suspect it does, and that would be their way of enticing you to pay, but this is not made clear.

Very good app. Very informative and easy to use. I would echo comments on weak coverage of St Claire river and Lake St Clair passages in the Great Lakes A nice additional feature would be an ETA from a ship's displayed position to a position designated by the app user This a wonderful resource for understanding worldwide vessel traffic.

Easy to use and powerful too.. Shipfinder in all its versions(regular for iPhone and HD for iPad) are the best AIS tracking app I have found so far. The developer has pretty good support, and unlike some others, feature requests are taken seriously.

Loser. This app is really pathetic. They have the information, but won't share it with you. Maybe if you buy the not-so-free version? I will never know because I am so disgusted with their approach. Every time you click on a vessel, instead of offering you some (tantalizing) info, you get a buy-me screen. Maybe I would if I knew what they could offer. If you have access to Google play, check out Marine Traffic. Not perfect, but by comparison, WOW.

Very good. This is really a nice application! After I downloaded the free version its a must have for me! So I downloaded the paid version also! Thanks!

Rsoteso. The app seems to work pretty well. However the ads are very annoying I don't mind clicking to turn them off but I hate having to wait five or six seconds to turn it off if I happen to be looking for certain ships.

Love this app. I love this app. I work on the water and always trying to find a app that will show me the name of ships i work on schedule and digression it's going and if you see a nice ship or boat or tanker , cruise what ever it will tell you the name Etc. This app won't disappoint

Real improvement/NOT!. This new version already has a marked improvement in accuracy! Looks like it picks up all ships in area that are using ais! Gladly wrote this review. UPDATE: New ver as of 02\28\14 0 of 0!!! Not a single ship shows up on screen!! LA harbor is loaded with ships and this ver doesn't show one vessel!!!

NG. This application is not working. If you want to use it, you have to by paid version.

Useless app. You need to buy the app to search for the ship you’d like to follow. No use for me.

Demo is useless. The free demo is useless. Deleted it off my phone immediately. Left such a sour taste that I promptly bought the competition app Marine Traffic.

It's fun. It sometimes shows no ships can be found, I live on Galveston bay with the Houston Ship channel and when this happens I will be looking at cargo ships in the channel. When it is working it is fun to play around with.

Ghost ships.. So all the ships I’m looking at must be ghost ships. Nothing showing on this tracker. Zoomed out looks like it only works on the West Coast. Wait I think I see Johnny Depp.

Great. App works great. Only issue I have is occasionally it will show no ships in the area but I think that's not the developers fault. I'm thinking it's the AIS server/antenna/whatever Thats in the area being down

So far - so bad. I see huge ships from my boat but they don't show up on this app. I can't trust it. I'll keep checking to see if it gets more accurate but so far I'm not impressed. 2nd review- I'm looking at a huge tanker 1/4 mile away but it's not showing up. But then none of the other ships I have seen over the past 2 weeks have shown up either. The app says I need a WiFi connection??? I'm off shore. My 3G is working. This app is crap. Glad I didn't buy it!

USELESS. This app is useless. You can't go 10 seconds without an unskippable add.

Sleazy marketing. Is this a joke? There really is no "Free" version of this app. All you get is a map with NONE of the ships visible. You have to BUY the app to see them. This is the sleaziest form of app I have yet encountered. I won't consider buying the app just on principle. If I can't see how well it works in the free version, I'm sure not going to give you money to find out the full version is crap! You developers and product managers for this app should be embarrassed to be associated with this app!

I guess you have to pay the $5. Does not show enough to do a real test.

No good. I bought this app, it shows nothing in my area, total ripoff

👎👎. Free version is horrible. You can’t search for a vessel unless you buy the app. Useless app.

If you like advertising, you'll like this app. I agree with others that ads are expected on free apps, but this app is one of the worst. Seems like the last update put them on steroids, full screen ads after checking out only a few ships on the map. And some ads, like the overly repetitive Google ads, have to run 5 seconds before you can close them. Spare yourself the grief and irritation; don't bother with this one.

Frustratingly useless. Do not download.. It used to be great, now it is horrible. The free version won't let you search, find cities or do anything useful. And every time you click on a boat, you get a pop up ad for final fantasy that you have to wait 5 seconds before closing out of. Which makes finding a ship in a harbor impossible. Marine Traffic has always been better, but ship finder was free. Now it's lost all appeal

Waste of time. This is just an ad app for their app that works

Doesn’t work at all. Downloaded the lite version. Map comes up but no vessels.

This app is GREAT!. I am always wondering who it is out there, now I can know! I wish I could upgrade to the full version, but there appears to be a problem with the app store. Fix it FAST! I want to UPGRADE!

Finally it works... I downloaded this at first, thinking great I can keep an eye on my boat and watch various friends. So here's my quick review. 1) It finally shows boats in the US. I think it's limited to relay stations, that is AIS stations for it to find the boats in the area. So if there isn't a relay station in your geographic location, you won't see the boat. 2) I don't believe it shows AIS Class B, I see my boat which is Class A but a boat beside me which is Class B isn't on there. 3) I wish you could put on there to track or find a boat by name. Other then that, the app has come a long ways since it came out. Keep up the good work guys!

No ships. App doesn’t show any ships on its map.

What’s the point. Can’t identify any vessel 😡

What happened. All I get is networking error what’s wrong

Awful. It’s not very often I take the time to rate and review an app but this has gotten on my nerves for some time now. I don’t know what has been done to this app but it used to be pretty decent and actually had this app purchased a few years ago but lost my login information for my Apple ID. Anyways I’ve worked as a deckhand on the river for four years now and have used this app when I first started and up until about January of 2018. I didn’t really have a lot of reason to use it anymore. I decided early this month that I would download the free version and start using it again and have done nothing but want to toss my phone at the wall when trying to use this app. I work on the Ohio River in a harbor that has 5 Tug Boats constantly running and this app won’t even show one of them. -To the Developers Before you start sending me requests to troubleshoot the app let me first say that I may be a deckhand but I’m not a dumb as most people make us out to be. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled. I’ve installed it on a different device running an older iOS (mine is current). I have installed it on a freshly restored app, and believe it or not I’ve allowed my location to be accessed by the app because it’s required and I’m just a tad smarter than you’d think. I’ve done everything you possibly can do besides smash my phone with a hammer, I’ve thought about it because this app is as good as a broke phone. It’s useless. I do not know what happened to this app and would in no way pay $5 for the other version. I’m fine with seeing adds ya know it’s free, but that’s about all I get. A map and adds. Oh and the amazing blue dot that show my location when I’m on a boat but I see no boat. Every boat I’m around and every Line Boat I am around has AIS and this app shows nothing. It’s trash just as simple as that. Hopefully you guys fix this but sadly I’ll just stick to the tracking on the boat and rely on others to let me know what boats are close before coming into work because I’m done with this app. I will apologize for the lengthy review but I’ve tried everything to get this app to work and I give up.

Annoying Ads. Seriously every time i hit a total of 3 ships, an ad pops up covering the whole screen. So annoying. I understand it's a free app and had ads. That's why you have the ads at the top of screen not covering the whole screen. Making the app extremely annoying and almost unusable.

No good for lake shipping. Not sure what the point of this app is. Will delete it ASAP.

All good. If you work on the waterfront it's a good app shows where the ships R. Look forward to buying it too. To get all it offers, I don't see the issues of it being bad. If I need to know it shows the ships. I like it...

Handy. Use it to keep track of incoming ships to a shipyard. Finds most of them, except some military vessels that do not broadcast their identity. It almost always has the tugs and other vessels spot on.

Ports only. Only shows ships in port.
