Finally!. A good app for studying Mandarin...best I have found after months of searching! Flashcards are fabulous. Great way to learn the hanzi as well as pinyin. Well worth the money!

Not working. It closes when I try and open I will delete and try again. I will give a fair review then.

A good App overall. The goal is nicely achieved, the app is quite complete and allows a nice improvement in Chinese. Though I really like it, I would love that we could choose what to keep offline because the 400Mo of data is quite heavy for my iPad.

Great for a free app. The sound is good, not STITCHED together like so many inferior language apps. Interface is good, also. If you are patient, and willing to wait 2000 days to get all the words of the full version (1 word a day), you get a tremendous app for cheap. I think you'd get all 2000, but I don't know. I've only had this app a short time and have about 8 words saved. The upgrade would be worth it as it's very good. For the $10 price, though, I'd rather see 5000 words, not 2000

Fun App - VERY Annoying Notifications. I've had this app since its inception and it is a fun little app for learning new Chinese words. Unfortunately, with the recent update, it now sends out annoying notifications telling you that a new version of it is available - even if you are on the current version. I dont mind the ads since it is a free app - but I dont need a pop-up reminder almost daily that a new version is available when A) there isn't and B) there are many other ways to find out about it without annoying pop-ups. As much fun as I have with this app, I am considering deleting it because of the annoying notifications. AND while I was thinking about upgrading to the paid version, this has pretty much killed that idea - irritation at a free product is not likely to make you want to pay for the full package - even if it makes the annoyance go away (and there is not surety about that!).

Excellent vocab building tool!. I am very pleased with both the Chinese traditional and simplified versions, and my vocabulary is much stronger because of them.

Chinese!!!!. So I study Chinese, but we only use traditional in class, however on the main land simplified Chinese is the standard, so learning simplified Chinese is a must. Since I do not study simplified at school, I need to study simplified CHinese at home, and this aplication makes it a lot easier. I use this with my studis of traditional Chinese characters so that I learn the simplified and the traditionl at the same time. This is a great application that has made my life so much easier, and the time I need to spend learning before I become comfortable with tthe characters so much less. This is a great application, hands down!

Not happy. Just downloaded this app and immediately the sound went out for words, so I can see the word but can't hear pronunciation hope this can be fixed!

Works fine now. Must have been fixed as it does not crash and does what it claims.

Xie Xie Ni. Very easy to use app! Helped me to learn basic Chinese for work.

Great if it were not so buggy. Great features and decent UI but it crashes about every 3 minutes. Always reopens easily but it's really annoying. Worst app I have ever used from a stability perspective.

Terrible. I've deleted this app from my phone and iTunes but it still keeps sending me a notification every night at midnight. There's no way to stop it!

Chinese 101. This has Been helpful when talking to a new friend. Interest points.

Good app but .... One word a day pace is too slow for me. Good app otherwise. Also I have discovered two wrong definitions so far (the word given for actor is actually movie theater and the word given for objection is actually opinion). This problem makes it hard to justify paying ten bucks for the full version.

iPhone doesn't lose flag/alert/badge. It autoupdated on both my iPad and iPhone. The iPad clears the 'new word' flag, but the iPhone still has it. Annoying to see the 1 all day. Wonder if it will be 2 tomorrow... Good word a day type of app, gives character, English to Chinese and a voice to properly pronounce the word. The iPad looks interesting, will have to play more with it.

Cool. Is a cool app. Everything u need. I wish it could fitnthe ipad window without zoomin in, which causes some distortion though. Good for a free one...

Step in the right direction. The last two or three updates were horrible. This is a step in the right direction to making the app usable for people. I'll try it for a week and then decide if it is worth ing keeping.

Not great update. I have loved Word Power for at least 10 years. I am very angry that years and years of ‘word of the day’ and word bank got wiped out and reset with this update. I got kicked all the way back to Yi One and am not happy. For so many years the 1st thing I did every morning was Word of the day. So poor of developers….

Frustrating. You only have access to one word a day, and if you miss it, it's just gone. Also -- who chooses these words? The weirdest combination I could ever imagine. How will I ever learn to form a sentence? "Mom, I'm taking a writ of habeus corpus to market," type thing. Well meaning, but not very useful. It'll be 10 years from now before I can say, "Hello! Where are the bathrooms?"

Got me motivated to learn.. Taught me a lot. Easy to use. Inspired me to learn more.

DELETE This App. Are you kidding? This app is 383Mb! Maybe keep it if you have no other apps but three of these 'free' apps take up more space than a full movie!

Mr. I like the app a lot. The pronunciation, listening and recording feature is very well implemented and useful. Some of the reviews are very unfair; Chinese is hard and you are not going to learn it from a free iPhone app. You will build your vocabulary and improve your "fayin" however.

Student. Last year I had this app on my iPhone. I then bought a 4gS and lost the Chinese 101. Then another Chinese app appeared and was not a good as Chinese 101. So happy to find Chinese 101 on my iPhone 4gS today. I can now get back to learning word by word, what it means, with pronunciation and especially the lady and man with humor. Hen hao! XieXie

Not Traditional. I like Traditional Chinese far better, but to get around in Mainland China, Simplified is a must... sigh... but I have to say application wise there is nothing I can see that is too faulty, except the number of characters included, but what can one except from an application that is practically free.

Good app. Doesn't like iOS 4.2 :(. The first few words were really bizarre, but after a while they became more commonly used words. Good app for expanding vocabulary. However, since I updated to iOS 4.2, it just crashes every time I start it. Needs to be updated!

Goood learning tool to prep for a trip. Some places the recording and the text are out of sync. But good support for the recorded lessons esp flash cards

Kinda worth it. I've already taken chinese so this was a fun little app just to learn sone new random words. Then came the "great" new update... 300 and some MB ?!?! It took over 2 hours to load and install and didn't fit on my iPod so I had to delete some stuff only to find out that nothing about it changed except for the icon (>_<) I really don't want to hog up all that space on my iPhone :/ So it's not completely worth downloading unfortunately

WordPower - Lite. I have 3 of these, Spanish, Japanese, and now Chinese. Love it! 1 word is day is good for me cause I'm doing like 17 languages at the same time, but sometimes if I want to study a little more, 1 word a day is limiting. But it's also good for people like me too. Cuase I'm busy. A+++++!!!! LOVE YOU WORDPOWER LITE!

Didn't work!. I downloaded the app, then tried to open it. The start screen would come up, and then it would automatically shut off. I kept trying, and trying, but it just kept shutting down before I even got into the app. If it would open, then maybe it would be a great app, but I could t actually get into it!

No more readable traditional characters. So when I first got this app I loved the fact that it was traditional Chinese. And then they changed it to simplified and they have the traditional characters under neath and are so small I cannot read them!!!! Also the new app takes up over a gig of memory! I don't have enough memory to update!!!! And the traditional characters are just annoying because you cannot see them!!!!!! This is a good app don't get me wrong but let's just say I am glad I did not have to pay for it

Excellent!!. Sample sentences for the vocabulary to see how words are used; clear enunciation, makes learning fast.

Won’t load. I used to like this app. But it hasn’t loaded for over a month. Freezes on sync and locks. I can’t believe it hasn’t been fixed. I’d never buy an app where the free version is non-functional.
