This professional tool called Clinometer is the most precise (all you can get with some calculations) slope measurement tool for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad using all sides of the device plus the camera. It can be used for simple applications like aligning a frame as well as for more sophisticated fields of applications where an arbitrary slope needs to be measured exactly. Read the reviews (and write your own) for all the applications you find! Thank for all your positive feedback! Please use our support link if you have questions and suggestions, we don't read the iTunes reviews every day!
With this tool, the slope can be measured by all edges of the device and through the camera. The current features include:
◆ 3 Modes (incl. auto switching): Clinometer mode (auto when holding upright), Camera mode (any direction, manual activation) and Bubble level (smoothly fading in when holding flat).
◆ Relative angles: Besides measuring absolute angles, for every mode you can measure the relative angle between device positions
◆ Advanced two way calibration on all sides: For every 4 sides plus the bubble mode you can calibrate in two steps, which allows you to calibrate exactly even on non-level surfaces. Each direction can be calibrated individually to achieve the optimal precision.
◆ Speech synthesis: The device will speak the current reading, so you don't have to watch the display while measuring/aligning your object.
◆ Five different unit modes: The device can display the slope in degrees (rounded or in tenth of degrees), percentage, rise over run (common for roof slope measurement in :12) and 1V:H (common in engineering)
◆ Dial Rotation: You can smoothly rotate the background dial and thus define which side of the device represents 0° and 90° degrees.
◆ Motion-sensitive Lock feature: Besides the common instant simple tap hold mechanism you can activate the motion-sensitive lock. If activated the device waits for the final lock until you hold your device steady enough for at least 2 seconds. You can set the lock sensitivity between 0.1° and 1.0° degrees.
◆ Peer Mode: Use two devices to measure angles: One as a display, the other as the measurement device that can be attached to the hardware you want to align.
◆ Fullscreen Mode: The full screen mode can be toggled by tapping the center of the screen and by the upper and lower arrows in the center. This prevents you from erroneous inputs while measuring.
◆ Different color schemes: Press the S/C Button to instantly switch the color. The color can be selected differently for the bubble and the clinometer mode. The predefined color sets include day and night color schemes (Black on White, White on Black and Red).
◆ Adjustable Auto-Lock: You can prevent the device from turning into the sleep mode.
According to wikipedia: An inclinometer or clinometer is an instrument for measuring angles of slope (or tilt), elevation or inclination of an object with respect to gravity. It is also known as a tilt meter, tilt indicator, slope alert, slope gauge, gradient meter, gradiometer, level gauge, level meter, declinometer, and pitch & roll indicator.
For recreational use only. After the calibration it CAN (!) be very accurate especially for the main axis after calibration. The measurement is performed as well as possible (we try our best) by using the three inbuilt accelerometers.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
We will improve the application long-term. This was the first application of this kind shortly after the opening of the App Store. Since then it is continuously updated and enriched with new features.
Free today with ‘App of the Day’.
The applications Clinometer + bubble level was published
in the category Utilities on 2008-07-30 and
was developed by Peter Breitling.
The file size is 20.42 MB.
The current version is 4.7 and works well on
10.0 and high ios versions.
- Support for all current iPhone and iPad models
- Bugfixes & performance optimizations
Thanks for your support!
Oldie but goodie! This app is a must-have tool.
Calibrating some mechanical stuff with. Works prefect. 👌🏼
The iPhone has the compass app which has a built in level. However, the iPad has no such built-in utility even though it's a great tool for doing such things. Thanks to this app it has one, and a darn good one at that. Kudos to the developer for continually updating the app. I've lost track of how many classic apps from the time period when this one was released that are no longer supported. Nice to be able to still use an oldie but goodie.
Clinometer used to work in camera mode. Now the only thing that works in camera mode is a worthless type of hand level.
This app is perfect for golfers using Aimpoint Express to gauge the slope of greens. AE recommends a 9" Husky Digital level the costs around $60, but a larger iPhone (I use a 6+) with this app is just as good and far more portable. Love that you can read both axes (left/right and uphill:downhill) at once without moving phone. Since I always have my phone with me, I'm always ready to calibrate/double-check my feet read when on a practice green or during a practice round.
I used to absolutely love this app; it was beautiful and simple and intuitive. In recent releases it has gained many features at the expense of usability. I keep getting into modes I don't want like recalibration and the color keeps changing and I don't understand what all the tiny little unlabeled icons are for. I have had to delete and reinstall to get out of modes I don't understand and didn't want. I just wanted a level & bubble level and don't want to take the time to learn all these other features. Very frustrating.
Functions well, some nice little features, really nice graphics. Full use and calibration instructions within the app. I used this to build an Experimental aircraft (RV-9A) it's that good and eliable.
Even better if you support the devs and get relative option.
By far the best level on the market. Use it for everything.
Great app, very simple interface and easy to use 👍🏼
This is absolutely brilliant. It's so accurate and with the voice giving the exact reading I can now use it when I can't see the screen. Thanks to the team.
Has no glitches so far and has the most sensitive adjustment of all tested. Excellent for what we need it for.
Great App. Works very well & is very accurate. Rise on run is a great way of measuring slopes, if like me, you under take design work for wheel chair access to buildings. Keep up the good work.
Very useful device at work and at home. Heard it can be used for checking powder snow slopes for avalanche risk as well.
Throw away your spirit level and you it when offloading the best tool is the one you always have on you
I build animated windows and this is a great quick tool to set inclines and levels fast thanks for building this
Perfect for setting the "pitch" of Surfboat rowlocks and very easy to use.
Hi there Great app very useful for quick and easy checking roof pitches etc Regards Adept
Awesome in the field or workshop.
This is my go to app for ensuring a correct mount for my iPhone. Simple, intuitive and fun!
I always use this app and this last update makes it even better.
I bought a digital clinometer before this app, big mistake, this app is just accurate if not more so. Perfect just as it is. Update:) After 4 iphones over the years this was my very first app purchase, its one of the very few apps I've used and kept and its still crazy awesome.
Great app. More accurate than Angle Finder HD.
Great app. Works perfectly on my iphone 4 ios 4.3.3 . Thanks for the update.
Worth every penny! Very accurate!
It is very helpful
Easy to use and accurate enough for a weekend DIYer. Easy to read. I recommend this app.
I love this app. It's so accurate that you can't lay it on the volume button side.
Very useful and accurate
