Darker - Dark Mode for Safari App Reviews

Simple. Easy and works, just click the extension button whenever you go to a new website and make it dark, and then it will stay that way whenever you go into it in the future.

It's okay, but at least its free. It works well on some websites, especially the ones that don't have a dark theme, but it's buggy with the websites that already have dark theme, and I don't want to keep switching it on and off for different websites.

Works functional but can read your browsing history. It works well, just when I signed up it said it can read everything that I search up.

Don’t download unless you want a virus. I used this app for a few days and it was fine. This morning I started getting a pop up in Safari that said “all of your free times are up, you need to purchase a membership to unlock.” There was no indication of where the pop up was coming from. Pressing cancel only led to the pop up coming right back. Then Safari crashed completely and I was unable to use it at all. I wasted an hour and a half dealing with apple support until we finally narrowed down the problem to this stupid extension. STAY AWAY.

obstrusively disrespectful to the user, possibly break AppStore rules. Extension should be very unobstrusive, no actions at all, just apply some dark mode on web, and that's it. But NO, every time I open Safari it opens an alert box asking if I like it or not. Click Ok/yes to enter in a looping of showing box and clicking Ok. Click "cancel" and then it opens App Store extension page on browser AND Mac's AppStore to submit a review. I'm pretty sure that is against AppStore Policy. Then here I am, if you want to know how I rate your extension, it's ZERO Stars.

Love it. This app has done wonders for me. I have light sensitivity issues day or night . So being able to turn the screens black made a world of difference to me. I was having to squint my eyes on the pages just to try to read the screen.

works great.. works as intended. can turn off for individual sites easily on the fly. Just wish it would stop putting "❤️ Are you enjoying Darker?" on every webpage. I click "Ok" and here I am. Let's hope this actually keeps the extension ffrom hijacking my train of thought every 30 seconds. Never used to do this..

Darker. Is one of the best apps I have on my iPhone. This app it’s essential for people with light sensitivity with there visual acuity it is quite literally the difference between night and day how I use my iPhone although now I can use it seamlessly whenever I wish with a much more comfortable and calming pain-free, eyeball viewing, web browsin experience,

Easy to use, powerful. Very reliable app, you don't even know it's there, and it works well with almost every app, good battery saver although I've yet tested it, but it is good and easy to set up, i recommend this over any app and it's free

Keep asking me for reviews even after purchasing premium. My work is interrupted often enough to upset me and ask me for a review, so here’s my review of the product. It works until it asks you for a review in the middle of your work at least five times now since I’ve purchased premium. I completely understand a one time maybe two time ask, but buying this product means you will be asked for all eternity.

Disappointing. It's hard to know whether this app is good or not because the trial period is way too short. As soon as you install it they're asking you for money, and then right after that the app is hobbled. Seems like a very poor business model to me. Never mind though, there are plenty of other apps that do exactly what this one does. I'm off to try (and probably buy) one of those.

Useful, but annoying. Every time I launch a new window, I'm prompted with their pop-up to rate the plugin. I havenn't even had enough time to form an opinion about it to give an accurate rating. Overall I think it works well, but some sites cause it to make bad contrasts where the original CSS is prefered. Having someway to manually tweak these contrast issues would be great (or if there is a way already, make it more discoverable/intuitive).

Low vision user. When I found this app, I bought it immediately. It works great and makes safari usable again. Has a low vision person. This is ideal.

Does the Job. I love a simplistic app that does something I can make use of with little effort. Most phones are too bright even at min, so this helps without having to use Accessibility features

Buy before you try. I read that this is the app to get if you have medical problems with high contrast. I installed the app and enabled it under extensions but when I tried to use it, the background is still bright white within most websites. I opened ‘settings’ and see a whole list of color settings. The problem I found was that you have to pay first to change any of them. There are no dimming options unless you pay first. I tried using day and night modes with the same results. I don’t see any usability without paying first. After reading the Apple Store description, I don’t see any mention about having to ‘pay before use’. This is a bit of deceptive advertising. As for me, I try most apps before I pay for them. I don’t like to pay first and hope I like it and that it fills a need. I will pay first if I have history with a product and have found a use for it. I don’t like these little surprises from anyone I do business with. Good luck to you, I will not be trying or buying your app. For those who ‘buy and try’, I hope you’re not disappointed with this app. Just my two cents worth.

Excellent with appropriate options. I’ve only been using this app for about 2 weeks now an it has made a world of difference. The fact that I can set it by website makes it perfect for me.

This is not a free app!. This app works pretty well. I was using it quite happily. But I had the impression from the write up and the reviews that this was a free app. Nowhere during installation did I see anything about a three day trial. But sure enough, on day three, I got a popup telling me it couldn't open the page in Darker unless I paid. I'm very dissappointed, I was really enjoying Darker.

Good, Useful App. I have been using this app for the last few days. I am so far happy with what it it offers. Texts are legible because of good contrast. The developer needs to make it easier to switch on and off the dark mode.

At least it isn't paid outright. I used to primarily use Firefox as my personal browser and Chrome for web development, and sometimes still do, and I love the Dark Reader extension because it's free and works great. However, as I'm sure you all know that costs about $5 for Safari for whatever reason. I'm giving this 4 stars solely because it is FREE. It is frustrating with the popups, but I'm sure I'll get over it. I'll be sure to update my review if I change my mind, but I'm just happy I have a free alternative to an extension that SHOULD be free in the first place.

Chrome or Safari, I’ll do both. honestly, i hate light mode, i do everything in dark, good thing Chrome does this as well, been getting annoyed with the light mode.

works as expected. Darker gets the job done. I makes everything Dark Mode, which is great. The only thing that is super annoying is the pop-up that keeps apeparing basically begging for a review. 5/5 because it works as expected. 4/5 because the pop ups gotta stop. Will update if pop up keeps appearing after review.

Good Extension. Way too much prompting.. The extension works well for what it's designed to do - provide a dark read mode across most websites. On that basis, I would give it a five-star rating. But when I installed it I was immediately prompted to rate, and no matter how many times I clicked, it would not accept my rating, forcing me to force-quit Safari. That's really bad behavior, and made me wonder whether I wanted to keep it installed. Go easy on the rate prompts, please!

Love the options. I love that there’s options to change the color and it is really dark. Helps with those who have problems with eye problems

ENDLESS LIKE ME PROMPTS. Seriously - they won't stop. If you restart and Restore Windows from Last Session expect to get 742 pop-ups BEGGING you to like it. It's rendered Safari unusable. That's not hyperbole, I literally can't interact with the browser because as soon as I click Okay, or Cancel, the LIKE ME POP-UP just COMES BACK. I can't get past it's relentless need for approval. Between that and my own incessant need for approval, I am rendered useless. Will be uninstalling ASAP, then will do a clean install of the entire macOS just to make sure it NEVER ASKS ME AGAIN. Then I'm off to a mindwalk to hopefully understand my place in the cosmos and achieve some meaningul shred of peace.

Great app. Works well and unlike other darkness app’s it actually allows some images and text to be more defined. I was using another app for a while and could never see my Gmail but with Dark I can fully see everything even with the application turned on.

Horrible App. Incessant prompts to rate the app. It spams like 1-15 prompts at the same time. If you click “cancel” on the prompt, or sends another prompt, another prompts, and keeps doing it up to 15 times, forcing you to rate the app. The app also only offers a free trial. It expires in just a couple of days. Then, it spams pop-ups telling you the ad is expired with the same pop-up prompts appearing. If you click OK, it sends another popup saying it’s expired up to 15-20 times this time. This ad is spam.

cured my eye-strain. I have to sit behind a computer for 12 hours every day. This is the only app that works seamlessly without screwing up the web interface or layout of any site or document I open up. I recommend this app a pair of blue light glasses if you don't want your eyes to feel like a dry-sponge at the end of the day.v

Looks nice for a second then crashes safari. I was looking for a quick way to have a to have a dark mode for google docs. This looked like it would work, and it seemed to for a moment. But I almost immediately got a JavaScript popup in every Safari window: "❤️Are you enjoying Darker?" with Cancel and OK. Cancel doesn't seem to do anything - the popup just happens again immediately. OK opens App Store to leave a review. For whatever reason, this insta-crashes Safari for me. So here is my review: Don't get this Safari extension until the developer fixes this issue!!

Everything is great except for the review popup. Love it, works great. The color scheme it uses is nice. There is just a very annoying popup asking if you are enjoying the product. This morning it was re-appearing so quickly that I couldn't do anything in Safari. I kept clicking that I am enjoying it and it would just reappear within 1 second. I thought I was going to have to force quit safari.

This works pretty well!. For the most part i've not had any issues with the extension. Does what is supposed to on most websites and for websites that already have dark mode enabled, I can simply toggle it off for that particular website! The only thing you'll get is an annoying popup to rate it here until you actually submit a review here.

Worked (past tense) great. It does exactly what it’s supposed to. It would be a higher rating for me if after a week it didn’t expect you to start paying for it and didn’t stop working if you don’t. I could not find anywhere in the app description saying it was free only for a limited period of time, which seems rather deceiving.

Good App with one serious glitch function. I like the app that its simple and free. But one critical function is missing here: the developer gave us settings for each site to have darker “On” “Off” or “Automatic”, but you cannot set the default for this. Meaning that if I want my sites to follow my system theme, I have to go EVERY site I visit and manually set them to “automatic”. Also, this function is somehow not working, it keeps getting back to “ON” for every site after a few seconds.

Good enough.. It works well enough. However, there are bugs that render it useless at times. The bugs usually involve turning everything dark so buttons and other interactive icons that should be CONTRASTED are instead completely invisible.

The right price, but slows down safari and seems buggy. This app is the right price, and generally works. I found that it doesn't work on some sites, and on other sites with this app enabled I couldn't select text and do other things, so it seems to have trouble with certain kinds of content. I don't know if it's a certain type of advertisement that makes it slow way down, but it doesn't seem ready for prime time unless you only want to use it on certain sites you know it works with.

Just Works!. I tried several other extensions and this one had been the simplest and most straightforward. Well worth the couple bucks for lifetime!

Impressive. Been using the Dark Reader for Safari for a long time now and very disapointed that there are some websites that does not darken. Also, websites that uses "capita" for secure logins does not work properly. SO FRUSTRATING especially if you use a password manager. I tried Darker - Dark Mode for Safari, and so far, no problems! Darker - Dark Mode for Safari works GRREAT for us!! We recommend using Darker - Dark Mode for Safari!!

This app has a serious glitch. I wanted to like this app. Unfortunately, the moment I activated Darker, a question popped up asking if I liked the app... I clicked 'cancel' because I hadn't gotten a chance to yet use the app. It remained stuck (disappearing, then returning to the question immediately every time I relaunched Safari). The question remained persistent (and insistent) regardless of whether I clicked the cancel or OK button. I ultimately gave up and removed the extension... but the question remained after I deleted the extension. Interestingly enough, the question functionality worked correctly when I clicked "ok" this time... so I left this review. To be clear, I WANTED to like this app. The problem I encountered is so profound as to make the app completely and totally unusable. If you fix the app, I will try it again...

Amazing. I absolutely love dark mode/theme and I use it a lot so just knowing that there was one for safari made my day and I have been using it ever since i downloaded it so thank you for making it

So far, not super impressed. The app does a nice job with color schemes. It actually renders in better dark mode colors than Dark Mode for Google - the "Dark Reader" app with the darth vader icon. I have seen system slowness and even a Safari crash due to the application. In addition I have seen the issue where I get this QUICK little burst of pure white light before the site renders - honestly that pretty much renders a dark mode useless because if I get hit with that burst of BRIGHT WHITE light that screws my eyes up indefinitely and I think others would agree. For a dark mode to work, it needs to render a website as dark RIGHT when it loads - not just when it loads from cache. Probably will move on to other service providers.

So easy on the eyes. I really like dark mode it appeals to me looking at a black screen with white letters on it. I spend a lot of time on my iPad Pro. Dark mode is easy on my eyes. I love the way it looks, and I also like the fact that it can save battery since lighting up the display takes juice.

Second attempt worked great!. I tried this a week ago, and it did not darken any websites at all. Followed the steps on the app and all that. Left a feedback note with that info, and well, just gave up on it. Lo and behold, a day later I recieved a response to the feedback, suggested a setting. I downloaded and tried it all again, and this time with patience because the app is pretty slow (I get about 850mps here and this ipad was getting about 650 in the room i was in when i did this, so it was the app that was slow, not any devices or speed here). It all works great after this second attempt! Webites in darkmode in Safari! No blinding lights anymore when surfing in dim lighting at night! Thank you!

Works great, easy. I love that there is a Darker button next to the search bar so I can easily toggle Darker on/off. Darker doesn't work with .pdf's in web browser (the page is blank). But since there's a handy quick toggle, it's not much of an issue to just flip it off when I'm viewing a .pdf. It's worked perfectly for every web page. No ads except forcing me to leave this review after using it for about a month. But, hey, it's a fantastic add-on that i definitely plan to keep using, so 5 stars. :)

darker. This app works wonders I am so happy I finally found an app that is FREE but works just as i imagined it to be! This app protects my eyes at night and even during the day which was my goal while finding an app. It meets all the expectations I had in mind which is really refreshing and a great start to using this app! I love this extension!. So easy to use, and really does help eliminate the brightness, I have a 4 year old and I’ve been using this app around 2 years that way while he’s sleeping my brightness doesn’t bother him since iPhone doesn’t go very dark when your in a pitch black room. Highly recommend

“Free Trial” Expired?. Well, it was good while it lasted. I can’t see any mention on the app page about this app *requiring* purchase, or that there is a free trial before purchase is required. I don’t recall agreeing to a free trial either, but that could just be me forgetting about it. The little “in-app purchases” note is on any app that has payable features, but doesn’t mean that purchase is required. Apparently the dev didn’t get the memo. This app was working as intended until just now when I tried to enable it on a website and was told in a popup that my “free trial expired” and that I would need to pay for premium. Previously, it had just said that certain options (like different dark themes) were locked behind a paywall, but now the entire app is. There is no “free version” as there would first appear to be. There is only the guise of a free-to-use app, with a “not-so-optional” premium version. Be more transparent, devs. Do better. Or better yet, allow an actual free version with an OPTIONAL premium version. Otherwise, this is just a paid app with a free trial. For there to be the option to “unlock all features with premium” as the extension says, (or rather “unlock all feature” as it grammatically incorrectly says) there also needs to be an option to decline premium and continue using the free version as is implied by such statements. The other option is to openly advertise this as a paid app with a free trial.

This thing is a virus. When the trial expires it keeps spamming you with a message “the trial expired buy premium” and no matter how many times you click okay it doesn’t let you do anything on the Safari app to disable it.

Scam. At first it was free and for what’s it’s worth it should be it free, but after some time passes (precisely a week or so) they basically DEMAND you pay the premium version so you can keep having dark mode for safari. Ridiculous and unbelievably stupid.

Needs an update. I want to like the app but the pop up window to rate the app comes up too much and then pops up 5 more times when I try to X out of it. I think this app could use an update and a better app UI.

I gave it 4 stars the first time. I will rate with fewer stars every time it nags.. Somebody broke this great app. Now it stops my flow to nag me for a rating every time I open a new window.

Constant asking for ratings. I'm all fine and dandy with developers asking for ratings on their works however after clicking "ok" or "cancel" over and over and over without it disappering is super annoying. I can't use any sites I'm on with it there. It makes the extention inconvient when it's designed for convience.

Simple Functions. The app is a simple functioning out. Nothing out of the ordinary, except for some of the settings, being a little cumbersome to navigate and deal with, but not too much of a learning curve that makes the app obsolete in any form. A great product for the value.

Please stop spamming the Review Request!. Trying to experience this app get distracted by constant pop ups of "Enjoying Darker?" or something to this affect. This is very annoying and unnecessary to enjoy, experience and review the product.

App Spams Review Page. I installed this extension to get dark mode on websites that don't have dark mode on safari. It worked, my websites became dark, but less than 10 seconds later, a prompt would keep popping up on top of the websites asking me to rate. If I pressed "Cancel" or even "OK", it would keep spamming the prompt.

No more headeaches!. This is good , sometimes the page did not like it at all but I prefer that to big white screens.

Review prompt still persistent post update. Update: I bought premium and got rid of the free trial pop up. However, I keep getting the review pop up. I already paid for the app and reviewed. Please get rid of the pop up. Previously review prompts kept popping up even after reviewing the app. Issue was not fixed after update, and pops up once per day.

Wth. I alrealdy gave this app 5 stars but reduced to 3 as the rating notification kept popping up after that. Hope you guys gonna fix it. Aside from it, this app is great !

It works like a charm!. I routinely use a website that does not offer darkmode. The extention solved my issue.

STOP WITH THE POP UPS!!!. The app does its job, but the stupid "are you enjoying" pop-ups sometimes don't go away, and don't even accomplish anything. If you hit "ok" or even "cancel" it doesn't take you to a review page or anything. It is completely pointless, and very annoying. It is an easy fix. FIx it!!

not free, very sketchy. the first time I used it it worked fine, the second time I couldn't do anything on the website (one I use all the time) because it was blocked by a safari (not website) popup saying I didn't have any free uses left. didn't know what the popup was referring to, but I tried deleting this extension and the popup stopped. ????????

Premium cost. Ridiculous.. Nowhere in the description does it say that you have to pay a premium price. I got to the second page for setup and I couldn’t go any further. Deceiving, and where are the apps from the USA? Everyone is out to make a buck. Not right. Uninstalled. I wish there was a no star rating.

Cool but has some bugs. Keeps asking for review even though I clicked yes lol. But works seemlessly for 99% websites.

Great Extension!. Would highly recommend! My favorite extension by far!
