The Only Nutrition App That’s Worked for Me. I had tried MyFitnessPal MANY times in the past, unsuccessful each time. I had also counted macros in the past for body recomp but could never stay consistent with any physical progress I made. In July of 2023 I decided to pay for MacroFactor to hold myself accountable and I am still using MacroFactor daily as of September 2024. I have never been this consistent with any other app, and I attribute that to how easy it is to log and the progress I’ve actually made. In the year (ish) I’ve been using MacroFactor I have lost almost 30 lbs and am still lifting as heavy as I did when I was competing in powerlifting competitions… AND maintaining a healthy relationship with food. I don’t feel starved or slighted, even tho often I’m only paying attention to calories rather than my full macro breakdown. Never have I been able to successfully lose weight AND maintain my strength in the gym, and for that alone this will be the only app I’ll ever use for my fitness goals. I’ve recommended MacroFactor to a handful of friends who have also had similar success! Although my weight loss goals are just about complete, I plan on continuing to use MacroFactor in my maintenance phase bc now it’s just an EASY part of my routine. Never thought I’d be able to say that with a food tracking app! HUGE fan!!! My only recommendation (and this could be user error) is when I try to make a batch recipe, like pasta salad, I don’t seem to be able to say I ate 1 cup of that batch, the measurements are always off. Just never seems to work correctly for me for some reason? Otherwise, this app RULES!
An in-depth calorie tracker that needs a little love. Overall, I love this app the approach and execution is exceptional. I’ve used various calorie trackers over the past 3 years so there’s just a few tweaks that I think would be welcome additions. Pros- Impressively thorough in terms of information (Vitamin, amino acid profile, and fat/carb content in foods). Time function automatically built in makes it easy to track. Other apps use different meals as a means of tracking, but using time as a marker for whenever you eat goes along with my hectic schedule when I may not get to eat at traditional “meal times.” Adding multiple items to a “plate” is incredibly intuitive. Very customizable and accommodating in terms of user goals. Gauging progress in terms of longer periods of time (weekly/bi-weekly) is an exceptional idea. Cons- User interface may need a little love. A lot of the functions aren’t incredibly intuitive when using the app for the first time; requires a bit of a learning curve. Food data may need to be expanded. It mostly gets the job done when I’m searching for foods, but there are still some foods that don’t appear when searching or using the barcode scanner (the quick adding macro feature is a good alternative for the time being). Maybe consider replacing pictures of food items with icons. I know this is a small nit-pick, but high resolution icons would certainly look better than low resolution pictures of each food item.
Great app but still needs a few more features. I have used this app everyday for almost 3 months now. This is my first review on an app, that’s how much i like the app. Has been great for doing my calorie deficit and even when i finish with it i plan on keeping the app to continue to track what i eat. Even though i rate it 5 stars i do wish there were some features like being able to edit a recipe temporarily for just one meal. I sometimes change portions on a recipe and i have to change it for the meal and then change it back for future meals. It can be time consuming and annoying. Then i also wish that going out to eat wasn’t so hard either when tracking. Mainstream food items at mainstream restaurants/takeout places can sometimes only have a few items listed on the app. So you have to find a similar item and alter the serving/calorie amount and it makes other things like protein, carbs, etc inaccurate because you have to use the substitute option. I get that it’s hard to keep up with takeout menus but mainstream places like Subway, Chickfila, and other places usually have permanent menus and are very popular.
Just buy it. I was on the fence about investing in a calorie tracking app for so long and I finally decided to try it and within 10 min I knew I made the right choice. This app takes away all the headache from tracking your nutrition. I used MFP for years and this is hands down way better in every way. If you are new to tracking your calories/macros, this is the app for you, if you are extremely experienced in tracking then this is the app for you. It’s as detailed as you want it to be. I love nerding out on the little details and so I love this app. But if you don’t find that exciting, you can still use this app and it will be better than any other one out there. It gives you the freedom and tools needed to reach your goals. I can not hype this app up more. If you even use a tracking app just a few times a day, this app will help streamline the process and make it easier and more efficient. You gotta get this!
The Best Nutrition App There Is. This app is outstanding and the team behind it is incredible with responding to feedback, questions, feature requests, etc. The fact that it’s adherence-neutral (i.e. as long as you keep tracking, it will keep giving you valid targets to help you reach your goals, regardless of how closely you hit them) is brilliant. It subtly encourages you to keep logging everything even if you go over your targets, because you want to keep the algorithm informed with accurate data. But that in itself makes you less likely to really blow your diet (because you’re at least being conscious of what you’re eating) and has the net effect of improving adherence overall. Other diet apps expect you reach a certain level of adherence before they will update your targets which makes it easy to just quit tracking once you know you’ve gone off the plan, and in turn you’re more likely to say “**** it” and use that as an excuse to binge.
Terrific Goal Keeping App. If you’re willing to pay for a gym membership, consider paying for this app. It is worth every penny. It takes work at first when you’re first starting to use this app. I would say after the first 2 or 3 weeks, it is so easy! You just need to get in the habit of weighing your food and inputting all the nutritional information into the app. Whatever your goals are, this app will help you tremendously. My only regret is not trying out this app sooner in my weight loss journey. It would have made things at least a little easier. I’ve heard about it before from Jeff Nippard. He’s a fitness YouTuber whom I follow and watch if I’m looking weight lifting advice. He’s also one of the creators of this app. He gives terrific and worthwhile information in all that he does. There’s a lot more that I can say about him and this app, but just know that the effort that you put into this app you will get back. It all depends on you. Have a great day.
Diet can be delightful. Let’s be real, nobody would be tracking macros/calories/food if it didn’t work. What I didn’t expect was such a delightful experience that makes tracking less of a headache, and a set of motivational charts that helps you stick with it. I’ve used several other leading apps and this is my favorite, because of the ease of use, simplicity, and great design. I love being able to share recipes with my husband via text so he can also track the meals we share, and logging a food with a new illustration (today’s favorites, a fig) never fails to make me smile. The developers are also super responsive and share their roadmap with the community. The one area I think there is for improvement is adding a new barcode/food item. To me, the input nomenclature is a bit confusing and I feel like I always have to edit and troubleshoot a few times before I feel like I get the information to match the nutrition label. Overall though, this is a small nit in an otherwise great app, and I would highly recommend it to people who are looking for an app to aid in their health journey.
Tracking App for Everyone. This app hits the nail on the head. I’ve used a number of other tracking apps.m, and generally they are all the same but MacroFactor stands out because it doesn’t judge you for how you get to your numbers or if you are over your numbers. Plus it uses real science to help build and maintain a customized plan just for you. Figuring out where you need to be at maintenance is one of the hardest things to do. There are tons of formulae out there to figure out TDEE but they all rely on you figuring out how active you are. Is 10,000 steps a day considered active enough that I need to bump my calories up? How does lifting weights affect that number? MacroFactor breaks it down and then gives you a number you can completely ignore. It reassess everything regularly to help you be more in tuned with how to hit your goals and it doesn’t shame you for eating 1 calorie over your target. No more red and green to indicate you are doing well. As Eric Trexler says “you are paying me to be your coach.” MacroFactor isn’t there to tell you that you did something wrong, it’s there to provide you with data and allow you to be on top of your needs to achieve your goals. The last thing I want to say about MacroFactor is that it is the only app out there that really helps you gain and maintain and not just cut weight. You could be a beginner just starting out or someone with a ton of experience but this app helps simplify things. Best money I ever spent!
My favorite tracking app I’ve ever used. Having used many apps, spreadsheets, and documents to track my weight, nutrition, macros, activity, etc through the years, I had given up on ever finding a unified solution to handle all of the above in a sophisticated yet user-friendly way. So when Greg Nuckols and Eric Trexler mentioned on the Stronger By Science podcast that they were actually making their own app, I was immediately intrigued. They did not disappoint. MacroFactor (or MF) is easy to use, can do as much or as little as you want it to, and requires surprisingly few interactions with your device to log your foods and track your macros. But these aren’t the best features of the app, IMO. The best feature is the algorithms that measure your actual daily expenditure. There’s a saying that losing weight is simple (calories in vs calories out) but difficult (myriad of factors impacting expenditure and scale weight). MF sifts through the noise for you and tries to give a simple educated guess at your trend weight and thus can also show you your daily expenditure, making it easier to know almost exactly how many calories you need to eat every day to achieve your goals, whether that be lose weight, gain weight, or maintaining. As your body adapts, the app is continuously updating your expenditure and your energy recommendations. I cannot recommend this app highly enough. It has given me so much knowledge and thus power over my body and my eating habits as well as my personal weight goals.
Simply The Best. This app is an absolute joy to use. It’s much less complicated than all of the other diet apps I’ve downloaded (I downloaded them all to see which I preferred most in the long run). MacroFactor blew all of them out of the water. Everything is intuitive and now that they’ve added a label scanner it’s SO EASY to add everything I eat!! Literally takes seconds to track. For example, I just scan the barcode on my peanut butter jar, omega 3 fish oil supplement, multivitamin, etc, the information instantly pops up (it’s actually insanely fast! I once accidentally scanned another product sitting on my table as I tried to scan the one in my hand and it read the label mid air in motion no problem! Of course I canceled it lol but you get my point) and then you just enter the serving size/portion. Amazing! I also love the feature that lets you decide if it you want the app to assist you in making certain dietary choices based on your physical activity or if you want to completely customize it and just use the app as an interface to keep track of things. I’m just amazed at what the MacroFactor team has created and am baffled that it doesn’t have over 1 million positive reviews like some of the other fitness app. Hopefully the word gets out faster and more people get to benefit from this remarkable app. Truly outstanding work 👏🏼. I also love their monthly newsletter funny enough. I say funny because I generally hate getting endless promotional emails from companies I bought one or from, but the MacroFactor email is once per month and it’s packed with useful health info, cool and brief testimonials, and what they’re currently working on as a company with genuinely interesting information. Love what these guys are doing. Keep up the great work!!! (Not a paid review. I just genuinely love what they’ve done here. If you used this review to buy the app I hope you enjoy it as much as I do).
Amazing App!. I NEVER leave reviews for applications as they typically don’t “wow” me. However, this application does and it goes beyond my expectations!! First of all, everything is completely straightforward when logging food and if the food I’m logging isn’t there, I can create a new food item and add it. I love the fact that the application doesn’t create any stressors when I forget to log my food. This actually encourages me to keep logging it as I’m not pinged or anything of that sort when I miss a day of logging. Furthermore, I love how active MacroFactors social media pages are and LOVE the newsletters! I definitely read them and they help me with using the application/improving my usage on it. I love the weekly check ins and having my macros adjust based on how I’ve ate that week, it’s so helpful and gives me numerous insights as to my eating habits. This application is definitely worth the money and I’ll continue using this service 👍
Great for sustainable weight loss. Came back here after using for 2 months to review the only thing that has actually worked for me after 2 years of yo-yo dieting. I put in a goal to lose 1 pound a week and am happy to share that I’m down 9 lbs since I started on March 17. Some important notes - this is science-based, which is what makes it so amazing and makes it actually work. It also means that you need to be diligent about weighing and tracking EVERYTHING you eat. Otherwise it can’t adjust your calorie counts and macros to fit what your body actually needs. What is also amazing is that there is no guilt and no excessive restriction in this app. If you eat a brownie or have a couple of glasses of wine, log it. MacroFactor understands you’re human and gets you back on track. You also need to log your weight consistently- otherwise it’s can’t accurately calculate how the calories/macros you’re consuming affect your weight. Again, this app is incredible as long as you’re honest with it. It’s helped me to stay on track - even with the occasional cheat day - and to enjoy the process!
Intuitive and flexible. I’ve dieted successfully in the past using both RP’s diet app and just tracking things myself in excel, but as a result of some uncertainty and anxiety about changing TDEE targets I have regularly tended to cut too hard, leaving myself feeling burnt out, and forced myself into a diet that’s unsustainably strict in the longer term. I’m a month in with macrofactor and it’s really helped address both problems. The adaptive TDEE and weight trend features have helped calm a lot of my anxieties about short term plateaus and small upward spikes in weight, and allowed me to maintain a smaller calorie deficit thats far less draining while still trending downward. The food database and barcode scanner has made it much easier for me to track accurately, and the daily macro targets offer me enough structure to be useful but not so much that I feel the need to meticulously plan every meal and snack. Overall, best diet tracking app I’ve tried.
Eh. A little bit of a waste of my time and money. The Idea is there but just didn’t workout for me. I feel like when trying to put on size it would take forever and I would plateau extremely fast. When it came time for my weekly check-ins, I felt like the app would hardly adjust my calories or macros. I think the most I ever saw my calories increase was by 20 kcal. Even after giving it a fair chance I thought I would experiment and try to manipulate it by eating another 200 calories past my calorie goal to see if I would gain weight. When I took this approach, I started seeing my weight increase more constantly but oddly enough the app would try to decrease my calories and macros when it came time to checking in? To be fair I could’ve manually adjusted my calories and macros myself within the app but then it raises the question why am I paying for this app when there a free ones that could do that. Like I said, the idea is there but whatever algorithm is being used just doesn’t work for me.
Visually stunning and scientifically superior. As a long time user of MFP, I’m pretty set in my ways on food logging. I use a spreadsheet to track weekly weight and calorie averages, more or less giving me an idea of my expenditure. I was absolutely blown away at how superior this app is to both MFP and my spreadsheet. When I’m doing a super slow bulk to gain muscle over 6 months, it is tricky to stay in that surplus sweet spot. This app has a much more sophisticated (and evidence based) algorithm to keep me where I need to be, looking back further than 7 days (my old spreadsheet) and doing more nuanced trending. And the food logger is super intuitive and fast, avoids many of the silly adherence shaming tactics that other apps use. Like saying I’m “bad” for going over my calories during a bulk 🧐…not with this app. These guys are super smart, can’t wait to see things continue to evolve. Hopefully they don’t get rushed into implementing too many changes and slowly release thoroughly tested updates. I’m sure it will continue to get even better though. Great work!
Great Option if Nutrition Coaching isn’t. I’ve tracked macros for 5+ years and worked with coaches on and off. Most recently I was with a company that was fantastic, but paid a lot for support from a coach when I really just wanted help figuring out adjusting macros for performance, maintenance, a deficit, etc. if you’re able to be objective about your own biofeedback and understand how that all plays a role, this is a fantastic option if nutrition coaching isn’t in the budget or you don’t need all the extras it comes with. This takes the guesswork out of adjustments, AND I love that it’s compliant neutral. Doesn’t make me feel guilty if I’m off my macros, if I had a drink, if food choices one day weren’t the best. I have been using it to maintain my weight and the insights around my calorie expenditure and “true weight” are really interesting. On the food logger in particular, I hesitated to switch over from Cronometer Gold, only because I’d been using it for 5+ years and loved it. But I finally switched to not have to pay for two subscriptions, and the food logger is great. I find it intuitive, but I imagine it probably has a steeper learning curve for someone not used to tracking, or someone switching from MFP. I would say it’s definitely closer to Cronometer than MFP (which was great for me, I never liked MFP). The icons for each food are a fun addition, and I love that everything is available to log via grams. The only thing I’ve found a little confusing is logging serving sizes on a custom recipe. So basically, it’s a really great option for diet support when a coach is too much of a commitment. Only thing that would make it better is desktop support, which I know is coming!! Thanks to the team for making nutrition coaching more accessible via this app.
Great “Lifestyle “ App. I’ve been using MacroFactor for a while now, and overall it’s been a very positive experience. What really stands out is how user-friendly the app is. The interface is clean, intuitive, and easy to navigate even if you’re new to calorie tracking. The algorithm is genuinely impressive—if you consistently log your daily weight and follow the recommendations, the adjustments feel very practical and personalized rather than generic. The coached program is especially helpful because it takes the guesswork out of dieting and keeps you on track. The AI features are a big plus and feel like a game changer. It does a great job recognizing commonly eaten foods, and the added AI comments make the experience even more useful. That said, you still need to be mindful—automatic weight estimates for foods can sometimes be off, so a quick check is worth it. One downside I’ve noticed is the search functionality. It can be difficult to find certain foods, especially non-Western dishes. While the AI helps bridge that gap to some extent, the standard search could definitely be improved. The only major reason I’m giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of a free version. If there were even a limited free tier, this would easily be a 5-star app for me. Overall, MacroFactor is one of the most effective and well-designed nutrition apps I’ve used, especially if you’re serious about tracking and making data-driven progress.
Maybe the best designed and most thoughtful app I’ve ever used on iOS.. Forget food tracking apps, MacroFactor is probably my favorite app I have ever used. The developers are incredibly active and engaged in their Reddit community, which is great to see. You can tell they have spent painstaking hours designing every facet of the app so that it works exactly how it should, without clutter, needless clicks, or distractions. And that’s all before getting into the utility of the app itself. The expenditure and check-in dynamic is genuinely next level. Rather than forcing you to rigidly hit calorie and macro targets, MacroFactor adapts to you. Its algorithm learns from your real-world data and trends over time, automatically adjusting your targets based on actual energy expenditure and weight changes. There’s no guilt, no guesswork. The check-in process is simple but incredibly effective. You weigh in a few times per week, confirm how closely you followed the plan, and the app handles the rest. Whether your goal is fat loss, maintenance, or lean gain, MacroFactor keeps you on track without micromanaging every bite. What makes it stand out even more is how empowering it is. Usage/Quality/Value/Price/Features/Incredible. I type a long review but I guess it cancel out as it was to long..lol So I’ll keep it short this is the best app on the market for not only its price but the quality! I used other apps for years including myfitness pal for 10yrs because it was the only one that was able to do al certain needed features. This app literally has an AI that can scan your plate and read it to the correct marcos..bro what! You think that’s crazy what till you find out that the app adjusts to your weight and caloric inputs to come up with not an update calorie expture but the calories and Marcos you need to reach and stay on track for your goal..bruhhh!!!! That’s insane! And to get even more crazy the export of data is GOLDEN! Like you can literally expert even by food and it has the Marco profile and just in case your thinking its complicated to read No my friend it’s super easy as it an excel sheet format with different tabs and everything..Wow Swolefessor Jeff and his team literally built the app that will surpass every single app in the market💪 just give it a couple more years. I can’t imagine what other stuff there going to Brian in this app just so far I’ll literally pay $300 for this yearly. And it’s less than $100. Man this is literally insane if your looking for a personal trainer to give you a meal plan or advise on what you need to be doing YOU DONT NEED THEM. My bro just get this app I telling you I not getting paid to say review this app nor do I review any apps because it’s not a big deal to me to review things like that. But I had to tell anyone that’s wasting their time on other dieting apps. I just came across his video and say I see about this one as I tried all others and I telling you…seriously try this and you’ll be on here writing a review as well in frustum as where was this app 10yrs ago lol!!!

Even better, enjoy the flexibility that the app provides in moving towards your goals without being made to feel bad about deviations from the plan, big or small. If weight fluctuations have ever robbed you any peace of mind, MacroFactor’s weight trending feature will restore it. This app sought to be the best and (for myself at least) it’s accomplished that very thing. I cannot recommend MacroFactor enough. The team behind it is continually looking for ways to make it even better and they are highly responsive. Take control of your diet or general nutrition with MacroFactor, your only regret will be that you didn’t start sooner.
So Close to Perfect. The features in this app work very well as described, and it has a very good UI/UX (and important part of software often forgotten). Its main competitor in my eyes is Cronometer, which I used heavily before. It excels above Cronometer in almost every area…except one critical one: food and recipe management. Cronometer remains superior in this area. And given that food and recipe management is the cornerstone of these apps which everything else is built upon, I will be switching back to Cronometer. Cronometer’s food database is far more robust and includes details that I found MacroFactor to still omit (amount of water in a drink like Soda or Coffee, the amount of caffeine in the morning coffee I have). MacroFactor’s barcode scanning is superior as it gets you the info instantly (Cronometer sometimes gives you 5 different database choices for your scan), but I found myself reliant on barcodes with MacroFactor as it’s search function to be poorer than Cronometer. It couldn’t even find a food I had just scanned when I type in the exact same name in MacroFactor’s database. You also can’t alter recipes unless you’re in the middle of logging, where that is its own area in Cronometer. Cronometer Gold is also half the cost. If MacroFactor can at least match Cronometer in these food management features, it will be more than worth it and genuinely be the PERFECT nutrition app. But those improvements have to be made first before that can happen.
Best Out of Many Macro Trackers I Have Tried. MacroFactor is the best calorie/nutrition/ weight tracker I have ever used after trying apps such as MyFitnessPal, Lose It!, and others. First off the design and interface is amazing and took me no time to figure out. I am big into charts and graphs and love all of the data automatically put into graphs over time. I especially love the weight trend section because as we all know weight loss/gain is not linear as you almost always have day to day fluctuations. The trend weight section really helped me see my long term weight loss and made my relationship with my day to day weight better. Tracking food is super easy and quick with the barcode scanner. I also love how the app determines your caloric intake for your personal goals and preferences backed by science, as I used to have to figure this out for myself before with other apps(which took a lot of time). Have nothing but good things to say about this app. The only other thing I would ask is for there to be a widget that you can put on your home screen (iOS).
Almost Great. I’m an intermediate lifter, I’ve used many other apps to track macros and nutrition but was ready for something that can use my data to create a plan, track progress and adjust with me based on my progress. After watching Jeff talk about the app in a few videos I decided to try it, I’ve been on it for a few weeks now. I don’t mind paying for tools so my complaint isn’t with the subscription, my biggest complaint is with the overall interface/GUI/layout. It’s messy and cumbersome to the eyes, compared to some apps. Some features could be limited to fewer actions or 1 button. Second the search tool isn’t large enough to cover all common places, for example I tried to log chick fil a strips and they do not list it. In most cases i end up googling nutrition and logging a quick add which is lame. The check in feature is decent but not “supportive”, for example it would be helpful to see explanations of why certain macros are changing, like display the charts that’s in other sections and include some insightful tips. I guess I’m expecting the apps context to be more intuitive considering all it can do. Lastly there’s 3 weight goal options, but I’m personally working on body recomp so it doesn’t adjust for that, even though there’s a long QA article about it. After my first check in dropped my cal 250 my deficit would be -500 on training days. Now i have to constantly change my plan or daily adjustments to my cal/macros depending on my expenditure. It’s a great app overall I think in a year or 2 it could be THE best but right now it’s rigid and limiting.
Accurate Accountability. For context, I am a peri-menopausal, chronically underweight former dancer, whose goal it is to compete in a bodybuilding competition. And I avoid apps! For the past year-and-a-half, I had been manually tracking my food in Numbers, guessing at my caloric requirements, circling days of my (wildly fluctuating) periods on tiny paper calendars that I kept tucked in my training book, and maintaining progress photos and metrics in separate folders on my laptop. Macrofactor--which I gifted myself last Christmas--obviated the need for ALL OF THAT. The ease of tracking (everything!) and staying accountable to my goals has been so worth the paid subscription. I am seeing the needle gradually move in the right direction on the scale without the usual panic that accompanied it (as someone who always wanted to be small instead of strong). I am motivated to be as accurate as possible with weighing food and my weight so that the Macrofactor algorithm can do its thing. Just a few days of exploring all the great features in the App, and it's now second nature to use. I highly, highly recommend this tool if you have specific goals and want to be as accurately accountable as possible. I've enjoyed the building process, and Macrofactor helps to make it even more enjoyable.
Intelligent and really useful. I switched over from another paid app and started my post-cut maintenance phase with MacroFactor. It’s been almost a month, and I can say that it’s been real helpful to my fitness journey and my psyche. I was able to input my historical calorie intake and my weight was synced from Apple Health. The algorithms and analytics are way more than I’ve seen in any other diet tracking app. I really like that it considers both your weight trend and the food intake that you logged to give you recommendations. The recommendations are also really just recommendations. If you do not meet them, it just puts forth a new one with the data. It is also smart enough to work with gaps in logging weight or food. I was very anxious when I ended my diet with the previous app because I was so afraid of gaining the weight back. However, with MF, I have been able to see an estimate of my true weight, with daily fluctuations smoothed out. It also has a dynamic estimate of my daily energy expenditure, and this has really given me a peace of mind because I know that the basis to the amount of calories I’m consuming. I don’t worry that I might be eating way too much and will just pile the weight back on. I live in Germany and input all my food manually, which I am used to. However, I really like that the database has a wide range of items for estimates when I’m eating out. Nobody really knows how many calories is in that restaurant doner kebab, but at least there’s something I can use for a ballpark.
Don’t see the value. This app doesn’t offer anything that isn’t also offered on the free tier of myfitnesspal but for some reason it is a paid subscription. The only difference is that the goal setting is slightly better and the whole app’s scope is simpler and more directly focused on macro tracking. If all the features currently in this app were free I would use it over myfitnesspal, and if there was an actual useful feature that makes sense to be on a subscription model premium tier then I would probably also pay for the premium tier… but as of now there is no feature in this app that is worth paying for. Kind of disappointed that Jeff Nippard is promoting it in its current state. It feels like the developers are just taking advantage of the people that sign up for the free trial and forget to cancel before they have to pay for it. To be honest that sales tactic is predatory and should be banned from app stores. Not a good look, Jeff, I used to consider you as one of the people that offers recommendations I could trust but this app promotion is a little too far on the “selling out” side of things.
Worked for me! (This app created by body builder YTer). There are a lot of fitness / diet apps. This one is created by a body builder YTer guy who approaches everything from a scientific perspective. I knew for a fact that his guy GETS IT, in that he is doing heavy weight and body building…. Not just yoga / running / or something casual. I felt after seeing enough of his videos that he really knows his stuff… and since I’m into weight lifting… I wanted to try HIS app. And guess what… it totally worked for me! I have never logged my food before. This thing made it almost like a game. Sure, there were moments that I really wanted to chow down on desserts… but this app made my effort level to constrain my calories go from 100% down to like 20%…. Much easier psychologically. I went from 13% to 10% body fat just in time for the beach… and learned a lot about the calories various foods have along the way.
Best macro tracker. I have tried so many apps for tracking macros. After using WW for a year, I realized I wanted more focused macro counting and began the search for an app that would have it all - trending, customizable, solid support and backed by science. Very lofty expectations and I found it in MacroFactor(after using My Fitness Pal, Cronometer, Healthi just to name a few)!! While it might be overwhelming at first to use the app given all the information, if you take some time to learn it will be well worth it. As you keep using the app you end up building your food library and I have many recipes now created in the app. I read the articles in the blog and as a physician was impressed with the level of detail represented. I love the integration with Apple health as that is integrated with my scale. The algorithm takes some time to get used to your intake and expenditure and becomes more accurate in over time. While I don’t love spending money on apps, this was well worth the annual fee. The trends are a nice way to see progress, the ability to track weight, body measurements, nutrition all outstanding. What I love even more are the different strategies presented when you sign up and set your goals. Truly the most flexible app I have seen with very responsive support. The Reddit page is active and helpful for guidance as well. This app is so much better and with some marketing can be the leader in the space.
Perfect except for the food database and search. I have been using the app for about a year and I remember reading from the developers that they were working on the database and improving it but as a user over the past year I have not noticed any difference. The most frustrating part is even if there is the food you want to add when you type in the key terms it is very bad at matching it and finding the food unless you type it exactly how it is. When you do find the food, it is often times between 20 to 50 cal under or over with wrong macros. I often times resort to using the quick add feature because it does not make much sense to spend 2 to 3 minutes adding a food for one time use or clicking on custom and adjusting all the information. The lack of a community database while they claim that this improves the reliability it does not matter if the database is not good and you cant find most food items through the search. Really hoping this changes because I will continue using the app because it is the best out there but the food database and search is just not that good.
Best Tracker/Coach. This is by far the best tracker/coach app I’ve used. You don’t have to exactly hit your macros for it to work. The developers are really active and update it constantly. Unfortunately, occasionally there are updates that seem like a step back. The ability to drag and drop food on the timeline was recently taken away. The new way is pretty fast too, and I’m sure I’ll get used to it, but I don’t get why the drag and drop was abandoned. Also, the updates seem to add a little too much clutter when the space could be better used to keep you in target. The dashboard has a nutrition and targets chart that I find to be absolutely useless. It takes up a ton of space, and that could be better used to show my macros for the day more clearly. I only like seeing my macros remaining, so it’s just all white space. The old version had it front and center, easy to see. Furthermore, the food log is getting cluttered up top and it’s getting harder for me to see the remaining macros at a glance. Fortunately, you can hide some of the stuff they are adding. That being said, everything else is pretty amazing. Logging food is quick and easy. The trending weight is a great feature. The daily expenditure is invaluable. The developers are great and keep striving to improve the product. Update: the developer is awesome and is addressing some of these issues in future updates, and they helped me adjust some settings to get rid of the food log clutter. So five stars overall. I’m still adjusting to not having the drag and drop and really miss the feel and satisfaction of dropping something in its rightful place, but overall this app is amazing.
Good, not great. Yes, this is one of the best trackers out there. But it is still lacking for folks with a serious eye on body composition and fitness. Calorie expenditure is based solely on weight, i.e. pounds on the scale. Any remotely fit person working on building muscle mass (IOW, the kind of person who really cares about tracking macros) will be let down by these numbers and formulas. My calorie expenditure varies greatly day to day and I wish this app used the Apple Health/Fitness data I gave it full access to in order to influence its own measures. Also, I may gain a couple of pounds in muscle and drop some fat along the way. What does MacroFactor care about? Just that the weight number went up. It has no context on body composition (data it also has access to). Is this one of the best dietary tracker apps? Yes. But they’re all pretty terrible, so that’s not saying much. Will this be better than custom spreadsheets and your own data tracking? Probably not. Especially if you’ve been working on that for some time. This app is a step in the right direction, yes. But this still has a long way to go.
Wonderful. My wonder of the day is this app. At the end of the review are my comments on it specifically, but I really appreciate that it’s science-based, they’re very transparent with how it works, their FAQ is so informative, and so far they have the only email newsletter I actually want to read and don’t just mark as junk to unsubscribe to. The emails aren’t incessant (I think it’s only once or twice a month?) and the content is actually informative/interesting/encouraging. I’ve already lost nearly 30lb in 5 months just by paying attention to what I eat, which was easy because tracking it in this app is easy. There’s nuance of course but that’s not the point. Even on days where I’m “over”, I don’t get stuck in a guilt-driven cycle because there’s not even a hint of judgement - no warning or “get back on track” messages. It’s just a simple app to simply track calories. It’s so much easier to log food and drinks than any other app I’ve used, and the options when you search for something appear to be more accurate too. I love that the interface is simple and that it updates your goal/metrics weekly - I actually look forward to the check-in. I would love a “pay once have it for life” option, but I understand that’s not always financially feasible for the developer, much less for apps that are actively being developed and grown. If I had a complaint, it would be that it’s subscription-based, but what isn’t these days? It’s well worth it.
Great BUT. Okay so I have used both macro and FP. I recently decided to redown load macro as it is honestly better. But I think it lacks a few things. I have used macro for a year straight and I’ve used MFP for a year as well. Macro factor pros: Love that you can see the time you logged a meal in one of my favorite features but where macro blows FP out of the water (besides price) is that when you create a recipe you can scan in the ingredients and it puts the recipe by gram. In MFP you have to put the serving size and if I want to put a recipe in by grams I would have to add up the grams of everything I just weighed and it was a hassle. Everyone says MFP has a larger base this incorrect they had simple things that weren’t in their data base I don’t think I’ve run into that issue once. The only cons which I think is highly worth considering is I loved MFP home aesthetic a bit more there was visual representation by color of the macros in each meal I logged which was simpler than reading it. It also included steps on my dashboard which kept me more motivated to hit my daily steps. I also could log water. I am horrible about that and would love to see that future added. I think the actual colors of the macros needs to be a but bigger and could have a much more aesthetic and larger look to the stuff you log. I also really liked MFP had an intermittent fasting feature. Other than that I cancelled MFP and resubscribed to macro. Hope to see some of those features brought to this app.
helped me lose 60lbs. Not just another diet app. This is a deceptively simple to use app that’s got the scientific power of a Formula 1 racer under the hood. I’ve used it for a few years off and on, initially to lose weight, which I did successfully independent of any other interventions besides this app. Slowly, but surely, which is the sustainable way. More recently I’ve used it for the last 16 months, starting halfway through a course of semaglutide (non-diabetic, but multiple preexisting conditions demanding weight loss) which I ultimately (and with my doctor’s support) planned to quit eventually. To ease the eventual weaning off and discontinuation of semaglutide, I started using MF. Based on the algorithm this app uses, it works beautifully in conjunction with the meds. I began weaning off after 4 months on MF, and fully ended semaglutide 6 months ago (these numbers are based on my own therapy and would vary by user). I now focus on weight maintenance (easy to do thanks to MF!) and am having no trouble maintaining my new weight thanks to the dietary insight from MF. Everyone around me has been skeptical of my keeping weight off after quitting semaglutide, and I am proof it’s possible, and that MF is a phenomenal adjunct to the process. I recommend it to anyone who understands that weight loss is work and is willing to commit to the process (using MF was always much easier than fighting my insurance company for the next dose of semaglutide, for what it’s worth). I feel I have gotten so much value from this app which just isn’t possible with other diet apps! Thanks, MF team.
Great app, but UI feels cluttered. There’s a lot to love about this app in regards to how flexible it is, but I have some gripes about some of the UI decisions that makes certain actions feel clunky. Sometimes when I’m planning my meals, I’ll search for the items to look at what the macros might be. When I remove those items and am not logging anything, I have to swipe the menu down and then tap the X in the top left to go back to the timeline. I wish the bottom tab navigation was still there so I could tap on the Food Log tab to easily go back. Also when I’m looking at my weight trends, I feel like I should have the functionality to be able to enter my weight in that section, but I can’t. I have to go back and then press the plus sign to do so. The menus have so many options for flexibility which is great, but I wish they did a better job of organizing them so there wasn’t SO MUCH to navigate through.
It’s not magic.. I wouldn’t know what to change or what else is available with other apps because this one works for me perfectly… and it’s what I downloaded first. There are a few issues I tried to copy something to another day and it just duplicated it on the previous day, removed the entry and did it again with no issues honestly maybe user error. Some nutritional facts are wrong, haven’t found out why that is yet, but I have been watching it and it’s not the end of the world… I mean with 3 brain cells you know you haven’t consumed 400 more calories from a slice of raw tomato so whatever. At the end of the day it works great for me, for all the “it’s not free comments and reviews”… get a pen and paper google your nutritional values and call it a day, however that’s not free either so good luck. Whatever changes are coming in the app it’s headed in a great direction so thanks ahead of time.
Enjoyable, Intuitive, and insightful food logger. The user interface and widget makes logging and tracking your food intake second nature. When I first downloaded this app I was skeptical about this being a paid only app. I was using another popular tracker and wasn’t sure if this was worth it. After one day of logging I decide I would commit or this app and pay for the annual service and deleted my other apps. The UI and analytics are a delight to use. MacroFactor showing their feature roadmap is also another great thing about this app. You can see and vote or submit features you’d like to see. Shows commitment and potential of its future evolution. Maybe some AI and wearable application in the future. Lastly at its core it delivers what’s intended and there is a lot of room to run. The food library doesn’t seem to have as many data quality issues as other food logger apps. I will gladly support MacroFactor and use it to support my health goals.
Macro Newbie. One month update: gained a lb first week, program cut my calories, lost 3lbs week two, program cut my calories, gained all of it back week 3, program cut my calories again. I declined as it would have me eating barely 1300 calories. I’m not sure what the rhyme or reason is to coaching but the trainers at the gym want me eating 1600~1800 calories and the week I ate about 1600 was the week I lost. I’m frustrated to say the least but going back to the 1600 and see where I’m at. Apparently this wants daily weigh ins not weekly which I didn’t realize so I’ll try doing that this week. Update in a month coming. I am all lifelong dieter—have done weight watchers numerous times, my fitness pal and lose it, chronic dieter. However my calorie cutting has now failed now that I’ve entered medical menopause and gained 20 lbs in a blink of an eye. I no longer want to battle with good food/bad food (ww, Noom and even mfp to a degree). I like that this app has me focused on eating more protein and calories rather than yelling at me for consuming a fat. I’ve completed week one and gained a pound. So I’m not thrilled but the coach tweaked my plan and I have heard from many others that it takes some time to see weight loss results so I will update my review in a few weeks ! Note I’m also lifting weights more and walking more now that I’ve recovered from surgeries chemo and injuries. I’m not as fit as I’ve been as I still have some tendinitis issues but I’m doing the best I can w eating and strength
The best food tracker I have ever used!. MacroFactor is seriously the best food logger, calorie calculate, macro tracker, fitness app I have used. Ever. I have tried many different apps over the years with a variety of diets goals. This is the best. Period. The layout is clean and informative with visual graphs and plenty of data to view. If you are a bit of a nerd, you will love it. The food catalog is massive. I can always find what I am looking for and the information is always accurate with many ways to measure your food. The barcode scanner is the fastest I have used. Just take the image farther than you assume you would. There is also an AI describe feature that will plug in some generic foods for you if it is hard to track your actual intake. You tell it a cup of rice and a few pieces of meat with a side of veggies, and it will churn out some pretty close items for you! So in social settings, cheat meals, or the not so serious tracker, that feature is excellent. And there is no extra nonsense to get in the way. You track, you view information and you are done. The big thing is you have to pay for it. You get a week (I believe) free to try it. (I personally forgot that I did the trial. 😂 But now I am so glad I spent the money!) If you really looking for and excellent tracker and diet partner, this one will prove it to you. Okay that’s it. I’m done. Seriously, it’s the best. Ever.
A Cure for Myopia. Just want to say how much I love all of the data analytics within the app. I’ve only been using for around 4 weeks and over the past 2 weeks it’s really “felt” like I haven’t gained any weight and maybe even lost some. It would be around this time that, without the app, I would’ve gotten frustrated and began stuffing my face for quick results (only to quit a few weeks and 10 pounds later bc I’m tired of eating so much). I was frustrated this morning during check in when, despite an average loss over the last week, my calories decreased again. But when I zoom out, and really take in what all the data is telling me, I’m like, oh yeah that actually makes sense. Part of the frustration is also that I’m used to eating much more, having just gone from busy 12 hours shifts in the emergency room to now being a full time student again. In any case, I guess I’m just saying thanks to everyone who took part in developing the app and also to encourage those who maybe, like me, tend to be a bit too myopic at times!
Same feature as free apps. Sad that jeff is promoting this app, make me wonder if he changed his way of sincerity recommendations. First the app does not offer anyway game changing, you can get the same result from other free apps like carb managers or MFP. This app have no free version which, so you cant tried the app without having to subscribe that we ALL know we always forget so with are caught. If they were to introduce a free version with the core function to test like carb manager does, where they block most of the data from log etc, it leave the basic calories, carb, proteins and fat so we can get to know and TRUST the app before giving our money. Very sad, but this is going to be one of those app I will tell people to stay away, a least until the figure a honest way for new people to test the app. The app itself works fine and got good features, bit you get most of all of the same from free version of other apps. And if you are not looking for fancy stuff and just logging others do better and free. Carbs manager food database is huge, and you can submit product or custom receipts if there are not in the database and THERE IS A FREE version.
Very Easy to Use!. I’m delighted with the ease with which this app functions and also with how beautiful the design is. The trial period has been good and tomorrow I will purchase it. Worth the price. This app has been a big help in tracking my macros and it’s a pleasure to use it. A big thank you to the developers! UPDATE: I just want to commend the developers again for making an excellent app. it is greatly appreciated. I’ve continued to use it daily and the ease of use is certainly a factor in using it consistently. Thanks for a beautiful interface and a really thoughtful design! UPDATE: I have been using this app daily for six months and continue to be extremely pleased. Definitely worth the money and I plan to continue to use it long-term. I’m impressed that developers listen to their customers and continue to develop new features. Great app and very responsive developers. And, I have lost the weight that I wanted to lose.
Perfect!. Why haven't I found this app sooner? Hands down it blows away some of the other top nutritional trackers that I was dedicated to in the past (MFP, LifeSum, MyNetDiary). I am thrilled with this app for so many reasons. I have yet to log a food that wasn't in the database. The food search easily finds my item with lightning speed. The user interface has multiple ways to log, edit, copy, etc. The weight tracker has actual weights and your trending weight. Very easy to use after a short introductory period. I love this app especially because of the expenditure function that adjusts with time/data and is specific to the user. It builds trust in the numbers instead of like other apps, "well just start here and see what happens". The check-ins keep you on track given the data you put in. So awesome. This app is science driven by some incredible developers and I cannot love this app enough. Just when I think it's perfect, they keep adding functions to make it even better. Well done! Get this app - you won't be disappointed!
Best Nutrient Tracking and Diet Coaching App. This is—by far—the best app to track nutrient intake. It’s only half the price of the premium version of myfitnesspal, and it is much better. As someone who loves to use technology, this app is very user friendly and simple to use and learn. The Apple widgets are a nice touch too. While nutrient (calorie) tracking can be frustrating at times—especially for beginners—this app is the most efficient way to do it. Not only is it a great way to log your daily food intake, but it will give you a macronutrient plan tailored to your own personal goals, dietary habits, and weight trends. It is interactive too, so you can be coached as much or as little as you want. Myfitnesspal does not provide any coaching, yet is double the price of this app (excluding free version). One thing I would like to see from this app is an integration with Garmin Connect. There is already a Fitbit integration, which is nice for people that have a Fitbit, but useless for those who don’t. I think an integration with the Garmin app would be very beneficial. The bottom line is that if you are serious about nutrient tracking—regardless of experience level or personal goals—this is the best app you’ll find. At the very least, take advantage of the free trial.
Better than hiring a coach. I am a nutritionist and personal trainer. If you understand macros, energy expenditure, etc you can use this instead of hiring a coach. Takes the human error part out, the exorbitant amount of money out, & it will teach you to fish, which is not in most coaches best interests to do. If you are I coach you would be insane to not do this with your clients so they understand the knowledge you have, you teach them to fish if you actually care about them, and you can get them results faster because it takes the guessing out. However if you are just a general pop person that doesn’t understand or value learning it, I would say something like this is probably too advanced for you. Nothing works without consistently & health and fitness is something that throws YOUR respect level of it back at you almost like a mirror. With all that being said , if you actually understand the value and respect health and fitness deserves, you will truly be grateful for this app. This is an example of AI used for good in a truly game changing, life changing way. Still, I think the majority of people will not understand the power this app yields. Learn what the app is doing over time and take it seriously people! :)
This is Simply The Best There Is Out There!. I am so glad I discovered this app! I am on the keto diet and was using one of the other top food tracker apps to track my macros. I gave up at some point because it was too hard to weigh and measure my food all the time. I then noticed that my Oura app could now track my food using photos with AI but it didn’t really track my macros. I wondered if my old app could now use AI to track my macros so I tried it. The result was laughable; so I continued searching and finally found Macro Factor. I started with the 1 week trial but within a couple of days I knew I had hit the jackpot and subscribed. This app has so many good features it is hard trying to describe all the features and how good it is, but I will give you my 2 best features. The AI, though in beta, is the best one out there. You still have to sometimes do a little bit of adjustment to get it right but you don’t have to weigh any more! What I like the most is how it adjusts its recommended calories every week to get you to your goal. Long story short, I’m back in ketosis and have already lost a couple of in about 2 weeks! Off you are serious about tracking your tracking your macros, this is the app you need. It is worth every penny that I paid for it!
Does Everything I Have Wanted In a Food Tracker. I decided to try this because I follow Stronger By Science and thought if anyone could get it right, it would be them. They did! I’m a registered dietitian (very part time) in both US & U.K. as well as a body builder/fitness enthusiast and have previously used MFP because of their large database of food. The problem is that they have so many items for one search that it’s impossible to know what is accurate, and the measurements are also really hard to define when selecting and entering. MF is so far excellent in this regard, as it seems they screen entries and allow people to enter their own barcode data separately for themselves if it’s not available (which it so far has been for me except once, and it was easy to add). I also cannot stress enough how much easier it is to add a food when you always have a grams weight option! I also like that you enter the food by time of day (but I know some mentioned they preferred meals). Some things took me a minute to figure out, but there is always a learning curve if you’ve been using another app previously. I was going to continue using MFP (premium) and MF side by side for the free trial periods, but after a day, I stopped MFP because this app is so much better. This app is actually less expensive for the year, and it does way more and is much more accurate. I am so happy with this app so far and would recommend trying it!
I actually enjoy logging my food food in this app. It’s like going from email to text. There isn’t just one thing that works better, rather it is the way the small improvements add up. I took the free trial and after 7 days. Each day my appreciation for the MF app grew and now I would never go back. I had used Carb Manager but switched to MF even though I had 6 mo the left on a subscription to Carb Manager. I had to admit it was worth the cost and ignore the sunk cost of Carb Manager…I trust myself to transition to maintenance with MF in a way I didn’t with other apps. (1) Logging food is faster and easier so I don’t mind doing it. (2) A positive relationship with logging food exists because of the feedback loop of better logging means better data to adjust my macros targets - and it is quick as to do it. (3) Going from loss to maintenance is the hardest IMO, from a mental side. By knowing that the app will auto adjust my calories and macros during check in is motivating and helpful. (4) The articles they write, I’m new to stronger by science, are worth it for motivation and education. I can tell they care about the app and the success of others. (5) Very transparent in terms of what they will add or won’t add to the app so it feels like I know we are aligned. (6) It’s not cheap or “free”. I rationalize the cost as paying by offsetting the cost of food I “would have bought” when gaining lbs in yo-yo diet. So far that has made sense.
Shorter Review TLDR - great app better than MFP. The iOS design is very user friendly even more so than MFP. I enjoy the dark mode, the dynamic sense, and instead of making spreadsheets and figuring out what exact routine to follow to hit 0 calories or to not surpass x amount of calories just to figure out one week you ate too little and another too much. The subscription alone isn’t even a 1 hour shift a month, taking that into consideration with how much you have to deal with ads and or spreadsheets, detailed meal prep, and otherwise crazy detailed researched caloric and macro for each food eaten. - big headache coming from someone doing it successfully 8 months now. I took the risk and the subscription - first 3 days in has alone cleared up my schedule and allowed me to live a more motivated and productive life than to obsess in my free time over dieting and working out. Works great in a cut and a bulk with the algorithm!
Thoughtfully designed, full-featured and easy to use. Every time so far that I’ve thought “man this app is great but I wish it was easier to [do thing]”, I’ve subsequently discovered that they have actually provided an easy way to do that, either I just hadn’t noticed it before, or it’d been added in the time since I first explored the app and I hadn’t realized. It’s always in a thoughtful and practical place, too; even if it’s not the first or second place I think to check, when I eventually find it for the first time the location makes total sense. When I started calorie tracking I was using my Fitbit app, but this app is so much better I’m happy to pay for it. I found it because somebody on a fitness subreddit said its TDEE estimate is more accurate than any of the TDEE-estimating websites, and it since it doesn’t evaluate calories burned, you don’t have to worry about it over-estimating. I haven’t had a consistent enough plan to really judge the TDEE accuracy yet, but the recipe-creation feature and its ability to scan labels has already saved me so much time I don’t really care. Other highlights: you can edit your new-product entries after creating them if you realize you made a mistake! Or, if the product is already in the database but it’s wrong and you don’t want to make your own entry, you can pull the incorrect one into your own collection and edit it for your own use. Amazing. Also love that it has all the FDA/USDA nutrition database info so you can see all the vitamins/minerals for those foods, I’ve learned a lot. Its coached diet plans are also great and super-helpful. Just discovered it’s even possible to set a maintenance plan for a slightly lower/higher weight average than you are and the plan will tweak your recommended calories to help you get there slowly and then maintain. I could go on and on tbh, you should 100% check it out.

Not worth the money. Don’t waste your money. Barely any of the actual food we have (Australia) so your constantly having to quick add things to make up for it. Barcode scanner works intermittently or will scan up the wrong item. Almost the same as every other free macro tracker.

It’s Great. I tried this previously and it didn’t work for me. Decided to give it another go as I was getting frustrated with the app I was using and this time it’s working great. I’m losing g a ton of weight and I’m confident it will help me maintain once I reach my target. The help desk is also just that - helpful and responsive.
Great Macro Tracking app to help you meet your goals. I have used MacroFactor (pre-release) for 4 weeks having previously used MFP spasmodically for many years. I love MacroFactor - it has a really nice interface, and the occasional less intuitive features have been noted and explained/updated by the extremely responsive development team. To use this app well, you have to be prepared to log your food intake - there is no magic AI to do that for you, but it is by far the nicest food-tracking app I’ve used and it comes with the trust factor of algorithms developed by the Stronger by Science crew, and without the congratulatory hype and fanfare of “losing weight” or badges for being “good”. You set your goals, you track progress relative to goals or adjust goals - the app provides data for you to do this. So MacroFactor allows me to identify my goals without judgement (losing weight, gaining weight, maintaining weight) and then allows me to monitor my progress towards my selected goal based on my own data. So long as I log my food accurately and record my weight regularly, the algorithms use my data to calculate trended weight and personalised TDEE. I use the coached version that adjusts my macros weekly based on my own TDEE, which has kept me on the desired trend-line for the time I’ve been using it. It’s been informative that my TDEE appears to be a bit lower than other apps have assumed. Daily weigh-ins can be problematic for me given the amount of variation in my weight day-to-day but MacroFactor’s weight trend line has stopped me obsessing over weight entirely - daily weight is purely a data entry exercise, and the trend line has what I watch. So far it has been smooth, despite wide daily weight fluctuations, so the trend line is really reassuring and motivating. Note that for people outside North America (like me), the food database used by MacroFactor does not have great brand coverage, but while the first week or so required me to enter a lot of nutrition information manually, the plus side (indeed the major trust factor for me) is the relative accuracy of nutrition data - the app doesn’t share user-entered data with other users.
This app should be the benchmark for all apps. This is the best app for weight management, the dynamic coaching element is outstanding- no more guesswork, getting hungry and giving up - just practical results. Logging key metrics is super simple - it has just enough functionality to be perfect. It's holy grail standard from a UX design point of view. I cannot express enough how well this works. Please don't ever sell it to private equity or a fitness brand, it's awesome the way it is.
Destroys Myfitnesspal. Best adaptive caloric tracking app I’ve tried. This app destroys MFP for lifters. The coaching functionality is great and the way that it adapts to the data you give it is excellent. Would recommend!
Great if you live in the US. The app is very well designed and easy to use, however it is missing a lot of basic foods In comparison to my fitness pal, there is a severe difference in how many aussie based foods are listed, it was quite dissapointing considering this is a paid service and MFP is free I hope in future it’s developed further to include all foods from countries other than USA
Have tried them all…. … and MacroFactor wins. It’s got all the features you’d expect from the others, but it just does it so much better. I wasn’t expecting to love the coaching and weekly check-ins but it’s pretty amazing to have an algorithm adjust things for you based on so many (macro)factors. Highly impressed. MacroFactor is the most efficient and polished nutrition and macro tracking app I’ve ever used. It’s user friendly, thoughtfully designed, intuitive, and fast. The label scanning feature alone is such a great idea and works perfectly. You’ll feel confident in yourself and your nutrition plan after trying this app. Absolutely worth it!
The pinnacle of tracking apps. This app is brilliant. Finally some accurate figures and the ability to track nutrients is unbelievable. Easy to use and the food timeline is fantastic. The graphs on the interface are easy to see any variation. The only downfall i can find is the barcode scanner is not so great for AU users just yet.
Great for Short Folks. I am loving MF. It’s incredibly easy to use but the best thing for me is the generous calorie allowance for me as a short person. Usually weight loss programs cap my daily calorie allowance at 1400 calories or less. With MF I’m at 1680. It makes a huge difference with being able to stick at it. Also, there’s no punitive messages if you go a bit hard on the calories, so logging a blowout feels okay. I love using MF!
Best diet app on the market. I’ve followed Greg and Eric for a long time and when I found their app I knew it would be good stuff. Thankfully the app doesn’t not disappoint at all. The barcode scanner even works remarkably well in Australia and I haven’t had a product yet the scanner didn’t recognise. Also love that the app lets you customise the gain/loss rate to a tee and tracks micronutrients. Only ask from me is a way to track the micronutrients against daily RDIs.

It is very expensive for an app though - I wish there was an option to pay a one time fee instead of having to pay a subscription.
Great App. I have been using MacroFactor for about 1.5 year, this with consistency which says a lot about the ease of use. Real care about their user base and feature request. It keeps on getting better.

Almost There. The app is very well designed and does what you want it to do. However, after using this for one month I have found many Australian foods to be missing from the database or have incorrect energy content. If the Australian database was updated and an option provided to switch Calories to Kilojoules across the entire app I would happily renew my subscription. The database problems has made it quite difficult to track macros accurately, defeating the purpose of the app.
Nutrition Label Scanning. The latest update, which included nutrition label scanning, makes this app the best calorie counting app for Australians. Australian products have specific nutrition labels and barcodes. This means many of the major calorie counting apps fail to recognize Australian products. This is horrible, as it requires you to edit and manually enter product items. Nutrition label scanning changes this. You can scan Australian product labels directly generating a new food item with precision and without manual data entry. I already loved the best in-class look and feel of the UI, and data visualision in MacroFactor. Now with the addition of nutrition label scanning MacroFactor is, in my opinion, best in-class for calorie counting apps overall.
Beautiful UI. Been using MacroFactor for a couple weeks now and as a graphic designer myself, I absolutely love the UI. I can definitely see a lot of effort has been put into the front-end design. I love the iconography of the food items, the gamified macro bars I need to fill every day, and the food timeline. As an Australian, I do find the barcode scanning to be 50/50 whether there’s already an entry or not - but rest assured, I am diligently making efforts to gradually add to the library of items! Altogether, great app! Give it a try!
Incorrect macros. I can’t understand all these five star reviews, I really wish I was having a five star experience. I’ve been using the app for about six weeks now, and about 1/3 of everything I scan is incorrect. I do live in Australia so I don’t know how much that affects things. Often it will get it close, for example I scanned a soy milk and it came up with a different brand of soy with different macros. I scanned a pack of wraps and it came up with the name but the macros were completely different. I just scanned a muscle nation protein bar, it came up with the right name, but said 27g protein… it has 16. 10 grams of fat, it has 6. I checked serving size and it was listed as the right grams. I think part of the issue is it counts dietary fibre toward total carbohydrates - this only explains some errors though. There doesn’t seem to be an easy way to report errors like there is in myfitnesspal. I’ve followed Jeff for ages, I appreciate the depth he goes into in his research for his videos and I really want to like this app - but at this rate I’ll be requesting a refund, as it takes so much more effort than my fitness pal just to constantly make sure the macros are correct.
Very happy with this app, already made great progress!!. I’ve been using the app for almost 6 months now. It accurately gives me a picture of my calorie deficit everyday. I made great progress by using this app everyday, as well as learned a lot about calorie tracking and my body. I honestly don’t know how I would’ve reached my goals without it. Thank you!!
Extremely Disappointing. Was very keen to try this app as I’ve followed SBS and paid for their products for a while now. Unfortunately the app DOES NOT WORK at all. No matter my method of signing up or logging in, the app bugs out and resets it’s self to the opening page. I’ve deleted and redownloaded 3 times yet the problems persist. What a shame.
Needs work. The algorithm is great, but the UI experience is terrible. App team really need to hire some UX designers and work on the interface
Australian issues. Hi, even though you updated the Australian database, it’s still extremely difficult searching for Australian foods. All the American stuff comes up
Just works. I found it a few days to get used to, but this app quickly becomes intuitive. More importantly, it does what it claims to do extremely well.
Best in Class. The only food tracking app I’ve been able to consistently use. Not sure what other reviewers are talking about when it comes to food scanning in Australia, I’ve only had issues with obscure brands, scanning is fast and accurate the majority of the time. Incredible UI that is a joy to interact with and allows you to customise it to your liking. Can’t wait to see what else they add to the already stacked array of features.

Great app - to be expected from these guys. Hey guys - I wanted to give u a huge shout out. I’ve downloaded Macrofactor at launch and so far so good (from an Aussie). The one weakness is barcode scanner is fairly useless in Aus but the AI describe is AMAZING👍) But I also wanted to shout out ur A2S2 program (new name escapes me). I’m on w13 and although I’ve been very conservative with starting inputs and progression I’m feeling strong whilst focusing on execution and most importantly, I’ve had no knee, elbow, Shoulder or hip throughout, which have plagued me my entire 10yr lifting career! You guys to a truly top job, and combined with ur integrity (and dry af humour on the pod) I’m SO GLAD I found u guys…keep it up! Claudio
Decent. I like the UI. It’s relatively easy to navigate. I have one suggestion though. The ability to edit the nutritional information given on a product. Some details on products aren’t correct and this app either needs an individual edit button or a “report incorrect nutritional information” function.

Game-changer in macro tracking. I’ve tried MyFitnessPal, FoodNoms, and Calorimeter as an avid lifter for theee years. MacroFactor blows them all away in many areas. Firstly, its intelligent macro recommendations which are easier than using a spreadsheet or calculator and adapt to your progress. Secondly, interface - easy to get things in without ads getting in the way. Thirdly, the AI Describe function - no more estimating a home-cooked / restaurant meal, the app does it for you and you can adjust if needed! This is the app you want guys.

Almost perfect. The app is fairly easy to use and has a good range of functions. However, there are two main gripes I have that make it frustrating to use at times 1) the database of branded foods is somewhat limited and highly specific to the USA, which also means a lot of barcodes won’t scan and will need to be manually added 2) similarly this means there’s a somewhat limited and very US focused list of generic foods, meaning again, you’ll often have to create a custom food/recipe for foods that are very common If they expand their database, realise the world doesn’t revolve around the US and add more foods, it will be an exceptional app!
I am impressed. This app is so good, I can’t believe I wasted so many years using a different macro tracker. You can tell a lot of love has gone into this app. The tracking is amazing. I just copy and paste the ingredient list to their AI tool and I got my macros for the meal.
Terrible. Just had to create multiple accounts with different email addresses and when I go to sign in it just keep refreshing the sign in page. So I’m paying for something I can’t use 👏🏼 nice work, guys.
Finally, food logging that works. I’ve been using this app for about two weeks now and I’m very impressed. Previously I had used the free version of my fitness pal and it was just too much effort and I never had much confidence in the data it was throwing out given the matches and portion sizes were never close. This app had dedicated databases, including for Australia. The barcode scanning is just fantastic and super quick. I’ve cross checked the data it populates against the back of the packet and I’ve not caught them out. One other major feature is the dynamic portion sizes - imperial v metric etc. This is a huge advantage over other apps. The copy / paste function is excellent and I use it all the time. Also changing time stamps is very intuitive. The coached program seems quite good although I need more time using it. I’ve linked it to my scales and other health apps and I like the way it writes data over to Apple health as well. The weight trend mapping v scale weight is good too. I’ve watched a lot of Jeff Nippard’s videos and his science based approach to strength and nutrition seems to have flowed through to many aspects of the app and it gives you confidence in recommendations the app is giving you. I like the little links that show you the methodology and science between different app metrics. I can’t recommend the app enough to be honest - it’s so good and worth every penny.
Add integration with Apple Fitness app?. Amazing app, use every day. However could integration with the fitness app be done, I think it could be rlly useful to help track burnt cals and progress maybe?
Unfortunately just not worth it outside the US…. Currently on day 2 of my 2 week trial, and app still has not been able to detect my food with the barcode. And I’m talking simple things like canned tuna and packet rice here in Australia. The camera on the app cannot focus on the nutrient label when it’s close, and then when it focuses further away it’s too far to read the label and register the carbs/protein/fat. I end up having to manually input everything and it’s getting too cumbersome given that this is a paid app. It’s upsetting since the app is nicely designed with a great UI and it’s really helpful that it calculates your required macros automatically. Wish it was more useful in Australia… will have to regretfully cancel my subscription until this is fixed.
Love it!. Ive used a lot of different macro app. So far i am loving this! Its so easy to use. The Australian database is pretty big and can easily find food and scan barcode. I love how it adjust your macros based on your goal but it doesn't penalise you if you don't adhere to it strictly. Really easy to use. And join their facebook group, its really helpful. And they are constantly updating and making it better.

Fantastic app. This is probably the best calorie counter / nutrition app you can get. It is single-handedly the reason I track my food and has been a huge help in reaching all of my goals, both weight gain and weight loss. Takes all the thinking out of dieting, and has a great user interface. To all those doubting, just give it a trial and see how you like it. You won’t be disappointed.
Great app made by great devs. Was a bit iffy paying for another monthly subscription fee. However this app and its developers are fantastic, they’re transparent with what they’re doing and how they’re making the app better. This app works like a charm and their monthly articles are super interesting as well.
Great looking app but no kj support. This app looks like it has great potential but the lack of kj support kills it for me. Anyone using calories in Australia would be well over 60 now. It hasn’t been taught in schools since the 70s. Technically it’s just so excessively easy to add, how can the app support different weights but not different energy…
Australian Friendly. Was a little hesitant initially as to whether or not to purchase based on the availability of Australian food data. No issues at all with a comprehensive range of Australian food data incorporated. The app is very good, and extremely intuitive, thanks team

A Masterpiece of UI Design. I never ever leave reviews, but this app just deserves it. The UI is perhaps the best I’ve ever seen or used period. Everything is intuitive, quick, and in a hard to describe way “exactly where it should be”. The algorithm and logic behind the data visualization are fantastic, and from what I can tell super accurate. The food database is very rich, and in the few times you need to add custom data, it’s very quick and easy to do. Congratulations to the dev team, you’ve cooked something special.

It works. This app is pricey, but I believe it’s worth it. Very premium feeling interface, and the program is really good. It makes tracking very easy, the database is quite comprehensive, and it makes adding new foods via the barcode and label scanner quite easy. The coached program has been working for me (ie I’ve been losing consistent weight on my cut). It took the guess work out of calculating my macros which is awesome. The learning curve is fairly steep but once you get a hang of the interface, it becomes intuitive.
Worth every penny. I have tried other apps like this and for me. I found it was the best one. Especially “coaching” wise where it adapts your calories from week to week upon updates and weigh ins. Been doing this for type of thing for years. But the app is not just for people to lose weight. It also works like a charm for people trying to bulk or get that 6 pack for summer. (I’m living proof). Trust the process. It’s worth every penny.
An Essential App. This is a very functional, incredibly useful app. It has a very accessible UI, tons of options to track food, and has helped me lose 15 pounds; it’s become an essential tool in my fitness arsenal. The only thing that disappointed me initially was that it does not double as a workout planner. You’ll need another app for that. I don’t hold that against the developments however because it clearly wasn’t a function they intended to include. All in all, highly recommend adding this app to your weight loss/management efforts. Do so faithfully and you will see results.

Doesn’t sync workouts. Says it syncs with Apple Health which is false. It only syncs weight and nutrition. This app is to track your nutrition so why would you synchronize that from Apple health? Makes it pretty useless if it’s not going to automatically synchronize your workouts and expect you to manually enter them every every day. That’s definitely a dealbreaker so I’m cancelling my trial.
Shady Business Model. Signed up for the 1 week free trial, got charged money the day of signing up… I go to check my bank account and they charged me again before the month was even done… with a price increase. Do not get this app and you will thank me later. Don’t know how someone can do business like that

Great app! Worth the price!. I really enjoy using this app to track my nutrition intake. It’s easy and the fact that we can scan items, use AI photo to help enter the information and easily copy meals from previous days facilitates a lot. Curious, then annoyed, then skeptical, now stanning. This is an excellent app. I’ve been using the big app in this category for years but wanted one that was more interactive and built less from a diet mindset and more an active fitness mindset with diet as a foundation—that didn’t cost absurd sub fees. And I didn’t pick this one but paid for a different one based on a similar model. That other app was OK. I watch Jeff’s YouTube channel, took the free trial as the data screenshots had me curious. I found the food logging workflow annoying at first. It’s more involved than others I’ve used. But now I see that’s because there are more ways to enter those data for food. Within a three days I finally had the hang of it and where the buttons were, how the workflow worked. The hourly log is genius. The AI recording path is impressive. But the graphing data… OMG, the graphing data is brilliant, robust, and informative. While anecdotal I also find the coaching algorithm more interesting, involved, and believable hence trustworthy. So, I’m impressed and will annual sub before the trial ends. It’s that good… once your mind maps where everything is.
I think there might be a bug. I am on a calorie deficit and i have been eating 1900 as recommended by the app, without changing anything, i wanted to reduce 100 calories on my daily intake, so i changed the goal again, and now its telling me that i should eat 1300 calories for no reason. I tried to go back to the 1900 calorie setting but i cannot now. Its telling me that if i wanna eat 1800 i would loose weight in 3 years, which is so not true lol.
W MacroFactor. Definitely best fitness/Macro tracker on the market
100% satisfied. We searched for a perfect match between us and a food tracking app, we found it!. After a month of using MacroFactor, my partner and I are really happy with the results. It’s been a huge help in reaching our weight loss goals. The app is built in a way that just makes sense—it’s clean, the dark mode looks great, and it doesn't feel cluttered even though it gives you plenty of info. I’ll admit, there’s a bit of a learning curve at first, and logging manually takes some effort if you want to be thorough. However, the AI food description feature is impressive; when you add a bit of text to describe your meal, it’s surprisingly accurate and saves a lot of time. We also really love that the app stays neutral—it just gives you the data and adjustments you need without making you feel bad if your day wasn't perfect. Regarding the cost, we actually see the subscription as a big positive. When it comes to your health, it’s worth every penny. We spend money on so much junk that has no real value, so paying for a high-quality tool that actually helps us improve our lives feels like a great investment. If you’re looking for a reliable, straightforward way to track your food and see real results, we highly recommend it.
Awesome tracker and coach.. This is one of my most used apps. Easy tracking, and even better - helps you understand how your metabolism changes based on your lifestyle changes (season change, activity change - it adapts)
very meh.. didn’t have a lot of foods. didn’t account for how much of body weight was muscle. barely allowed me a healthy amount of calories. kept decreasing. felt like i was starving for a fitness comp. this isn’t a great app for someone who exercises. maybe it’s great for men but cutting calories below 1100 just doesn’t make sense. also too expensive.
Populating my food list is madening. The tone of this app is much appreciated. Serious and clear, not cartoony, and not full of “great jobs!!!” On the downside, I’ve been using this app for 3 days, and I’m close to being fed up with it. The UI is full of context-sensitive button lists, (including copy/paste) but it’s bloody impossible to figure out how to simply add entries from the calendar to a list of my foods. Even copy/paste is not available. Even the contextual “send to” list doesn’t include an option of adding to a list of my own! I can’t even find so much as a “recent entries” list. So, I’m having to search recipes and foods all over again. I’m one of those people who hates any superfluous time on my phone. This app makes me want to throw it out a window.
Not that good. I don’t understand why I put exact measurements of something and your stupid ai changes it. I make a smoothie with 537 ml of milk and it corrects it to 520ml. Why???
Meh. I didn't like this app at all, first when I started I entered my weight, my goal, and how much exercises I do. Then app counted for me to eat 1200 cal a day, what is extremely low. I contacted customer support, and they said that I can manually establish my calories for day, and after some time app will adapt. It's been more than a month, it keeps telling me eat for 1200 cal. What's the point for me to pay roughly 20 cad a month for app that trying to give me eating disorder, and where I need manually adjust my diet. For that money they're a lot better options, and way cheaper. I'm disappointed.

Incredible algorithm. I’ve used a few different weight loss apps and there’s something better about macro factors algorithm. It uses your weight and your food intake to figure out how many calories you’re actually burning- has really helped me lose weight

Ignored support request.. App needs more warnings that it’s pretty useless unless you really know what you are doing and are will to spend half your waking life logging food. Buyers regret with 7 day trial accidentally going to year. No response from support.
Price. Had to download it before I was able to get any information about pricing - which was clearly intentional. Doesn't reflect positively on you.

No free trial. I wanna try the app to see if I like the way to navigate and compare with my fitness pal what is the best for me. That app ask to blind buy without knowing anything of it. I’m gonna stick with MyFitnessPal

Way Over Hyped. The app itself is mediocre. The worst part is the directory/database is very limited, and the search engineer is very bad - if you change the order of words around you’ll often get no results for common food products. Many common foods missing outright. Beyond many common foods missing, just logging the food is more tedious and more steps than most trackers. The core value is a tracker is 1) database and 2) ease of adding. Macro factor misses the mark severely on the two most important components of a tracker. Significantly worse than MyFitnessPal’s free version for those 2 reasons. Only reason this app is so popular is because of Jeff Nippard and social media. Don’t be fooled.
Feels Incomplete. Excellent user interface, but it doesn’t take in consideration the workouts you do. I mainly run, so I would like to see how many extra calories I’m allowed in a day. Also, doesn’t have an hydration tracking feature.
Not worth it if you are Canadian just yet. It is missing a very vast amount of Canadian foods which sometimes have different SKUs depending on the provinces. Otherwise, this is much better than my fitness pal

NOT FREE. I was excited to try this app. However it’s unfortunate that you have to answer all of the questions just to be told you need to pay for an app that states it is free. There is no free option. I will stick with myfitnesspal.
Best Tracking App. Honestly, probably the best calorie tracking app I’ve ever used. I used two other apps before this one and gave up on using them - calorie counts were inaccurate, inputting meals was cumbersome, and the layout wasn’t user friendly. A friend told me about this app and it’s made tracking simple, fast, and most importantly, accurate!
Changed my life. I never really understood macro tracking and thought it to be a pain. I decided to commit and try my hardest to be the best me. Since late August I have lost 40 pounds and had never been more happy with the way I look. MacroFactor has given me the ability to still have fun and enjoy my life, but be accountable to my weight goals. Thanks a ton!
Kinda disappointed but wait hear me out. I love Jeff nippard I’ve been watching his content for years! I figured it was about time I download his app and give it a shot. Went threw all the hype in the into of the app just to realize I had to pay, don’t get my wrong I want to supposed Jeff and his journey to greatness and id love to pay for his app but I don’t think you can put a price on health, you shouldn’t have to pay to get knowledge of being healthy, you should be willing to provide this service so people don’t have a reason to back out, I know a lot of people who back out of healthy things simply because price holds them back. I feel like if you were to go abouts this it should be like “my fitness pal” a free and paid version, cause at least I can show people new to health that it’s easy to be healthy and that is what makes me happy.
Great app concept, but ChatGPT-style logging leaves it in the dust. I love the idea of the coaching and check-ins — great concept and it could make a good AI nutrition coach longer term. But the food logging feels totally outdated. I travel and move between a lot of places and using ChatGPT to log meals is way faster and more natural than tapping through menus. I feel like the app needs to ride the LLM wave — that’s where users are headed. Everyone knows how to talk to AI now. Forcing users through boxes and dropdowns just feels clunky. Not to mention, I already pay for ChatGPT — I don’t need another subscription just to log food. Here’s the format I use that makes it effortless, I just use this instruction in a chatgtp folder and make a new chat thread for each day starting from midnight: Log food for [YYYY-MM-DD] in this exact format: Each food item on **one line**: - Food name – P: __g / F: __g / C: __g – __ kcal Then, show daily totals in this format: PFC Totals: - Protein: __g (__ kcal) - Fat: __g (__ kcal) - Carbs: __g (__ kcal) - Total Calories: __ kcal Thread title must be: macro – [YYYY-MM-DD] From there, I can update it using voice input using chatgtp every time I eat — include a picture of the food, read off a label so it calculates per 100 g or 175 g, or even ask what good food choices fit my remaining macros for the day. I can ask it a lot of questions. That’s what 2025 food logging should look like — fast, flexible, frictionless, and smart.
Marco targets barley visible. Great app. My only thing is the interface. Specifically my Marco targets can feel hidden at times. Maybe take a note outta apples “rings” mechanism and make the targets pop more in the app
5 stars. Best calorie tracking app I ever used. Doesn’t give you that tedious/cumbersome feeling. This app aswell as its workout counterpart app has kept me way more consistent towards my goals! Highly recommend.
Pretty good but needs improvement. Overall the app runs pretty smooth and the best parts are the graphs of data and scanning nutritional labels. If I were to work on a few things it would be the amount of foods that you can simply type in the search box, it’s pretty poor right now and most of the time I have to either create my own product or scan the bar code/label. This is a problem if I forgot to log before I ate my meal. I would probably change the dashboard or have a dedicated section about nutrition. Something feels off but otherwise the app works good.
No free option. To many useless questions when u create an account, no free option, just waste of time
payment. i usually never write reviews but i hate apps that are free and have in app purchases right from when u sign up and not even let you try the app other than 1 week free trial. there’s free chronometer apps that have all good options and track fitness along with it there’s no justifications for your app to be paid for other than premium features not sure what exclusivity you offer but not a chance it’s justified by paying right off the start from signup.👎
Impressive how far this app has come. I’ve used quite a few nutrition tracking apps but I gotta give it to MacroFactor for the lightening fast user interface. I did the free trial out of curiosity but ended up cancelling subscription with the other nutrition app I’ve been faithful to for the last 10 years. I love the AI photo tracking feature, little info-graphs and the fact that the app syncs health and workout data from the phone and accounts that into nutrition coaching. Showed it to my GF and a few other friends and they converted to MF too.
Really Good But a Few Unfortunate Issues. I’ve been using this app for a few months now and I really do enjoy the UI and ease of use, it has helped me stay on track and hit my goal consistently. The one thing that I really cannot stand however is the fact that I’m unable to manually adjust or even revisit the ingredients in a recipe once I’ve already logged it. (unless I added it as a separate recipe in a completely different section.) I’m also unable to manually adjust the macros in a specific food or recipe even if I know for a fact it’s off. If these things were fixed, as I do believe them to be issues, this would easily be a five star app.
App is not made for female. I was very excited to use this app after my husband found it. Coming from MFP I thought the premise of it was amazing. However after using it for about 1 month it tanked my calories so low that my body started shutting down and going into a relative energy deficiency. I ended up getting night sweats, losing energy, having significant brain fog and also deteriorating in the gym. It wasn’t until I manually increased my calories about 500 on my own when all of my symptoms got better. This was reflected in the metrics on my whoop as well. The other thing to note is my periods were affected and for those that know the female anatomy a change in your periods means that you are probably decreasing your calories too much in an unsafe manner. Ultimately this app is really not made for the female anatomy and does not account for any of this. This is discussed on their Reddit account and they do not know how to address it. For any females interested in this app, please make sure you listen to your body because it’s really made for men in mind.
good but price is steep. Using the free trial currently and it is pretty great, easy to use and accurate. but the price is a bit high imo. its like 100 a year and i think it should be around 70-80. but other than that,great app. and i love jeff’s content and would love to support him

Used to be better. I have used this since 2021, then I didn't use the app last year, then started the subscription again last week. Adding food got very annoying and worse than before. First, it is not possible to move the added food item between different time with dragging anymore. When I move multiple items this is more annoying. Second, I was trying to add certain item to different day/time not ‘today’, so after searching the food, set day/time, then clicked ‘log to data and time’ then just canceled whatever I was doing instead of logging my food items. The app got more difficult to use than before, now I regret that I got 1 year subscription. I trusted my precious good experience but apparently the app got worse and annoyingly changed.
Best Tracking App Period. I took advantage of the two week trial promotion and like it so much I’m paying for the year. It’s hard to describe why this works so much better than MyFitnessPal but it does. After two weeks I’ve lost 3 lbs after being stuck for 6 months. To be fair I was only mentally tracking those 6 months but I’ve used MyFitnessPal for 4+ months in the past and didn’t see such quick results. The biggest win for me is the complete delivery on the promise I don’t have to think about anything while the app goes out of its way not to judge me. After entering my weight, goals, and macro balance preference my only involvement is entering my daily weight and food. I go over all the time and it doesn’t seem to matter. Seriously can’t wait to try this in a bulk. Maybe I’ll have my first successful one ever. Now, SBS team, go turn Greg’s programming into an app to compete with Juggernaut AI so I can give you more money and Greg’s brain can get me strong and shredded while I think deep thoughts about grilling, golf and software architecture instead. Just kidding. I’ll be getting screamed at by two baby boys while desperately trying to survive.
Only nutrition app I’ve stuck with. I was a bit hesitant to switch over to MacroFactor from Cronometer, but very glad I did. The app is a pleasure to use. It’s fast, highly customizable, generally bug/crash free, and designed very well. There are so many little features that save time in inputting data: when you’re searching for food to add, it’ll pre populate with foods/recipes that you typically eat at that time of day. Usually it knows what I’m going to add before I even get a chance to start typing. I also like that everything is anchored on solid research-backed methods, so I can trust that if I follow the program, I’ll hit my goals (which so far has been true)
I don’t like subscriptions, but this one’s worth it. Just to be clear in case you couldn’t tell by the title, I don’t like subscriptions. I’d prefer to just pay for something and have it but this app is 100% worth the money even though it’s more than some alternative tracking apps. It makes everything so easy and it explains everything to you so you get a better understanding of your metrics and the adjustments that it makes for you each week. It took me a few days to get used to how the app works, but after I learned how to use it I absolutely love it. I’ve used other apps like Lose it, my fitness pal, and cronometer but in my opinion none of them come close to what you’re getting with MacroFactor. The level of detail and accuracy is unmatched.
Easy = Consistency. I always tried cutting weight. I’m early 30s and have been working out since I was 16. I always been in good shape, but always sick of the little excess fat I carry around my midsection. I would try and cut and use hunger to intuitively eat. That would work but not for long, and my weight would rebound. MacroFactor made logging food and calories very easy with all the methods of calculating calories. The daily weigh-ins and weight trend tracker helps you gamify your weight loss to keep you on track. Completely recommend MacroFactor if like me you have just repeatedly yo-yoed with your cuts and found calorie tracking a cumbersome idea. MacroFactor makes it easy and quick, which will make you consistent!
The best, hands down. I’ve been a recreational athlete for years and have used various calorie tracking apps—MFP, Chronometer, FatSecret. All were *okay* in that they got the job done. I always wanted something more dynamic. Enter MacroFactor. From the intuitive features like recipe building and copy paste (SO much better than other similar apps), the team behind this app thought of everything and then some. I also love that going over calories doesn’t penalize you. Instead, you still get useful data and the app acts as your custom diet coach by adjusting calories based on changes in metabolism throughout a diet. I can’t wait to see what else this team comes up with. Probably something I never knew I needed but soon won’t be able to live without. Buy this subscription now.
Love it!. Have worked out for years but was kinda just maintaining and not putting on weight. I never got into nutrition tracking because it just seemed so complicated, or that you'd have to eat some crazy diet. This app makes it extremely easy, and seeing all the data and charts is very helpful. I'm able to eat what I want and use the app to ensure I'm tracking to my daily goals. I've used it daily for a year now, and have put on 15lbs and look much more filled out. I will say that you get out what you put in though! Be sure to track your exact foods and portions so the app can properly account for it. Highly recommend using a kitchen scale to measure out portions. Super easy to just set your plate on it and then record your foods as you add them
Converted. I marked “2 week free trial over” in my calendar to make sure I canceled MarcoFactor before being charged but I’m keeping the app. MacroFactor is so good at what it does, I have over 6 months left with Lifesum and have decided that I’m deleting it. MarcoFactor isn’t your normal dieting app as it can act as a coach, subtracting or adding calories based on your goals and weight trends. You’re able to set your own personal preferences such as “high carb”, “low fat”, “moderate protein”, etc. to match your personal eating preferences. Best of all, there are no extremes as seen in the Renaissance Periodization nutrition app. I foresee a lot people using this app and finally succeeding at their weight loss goals. I highly recommend MacroFactor.
I like it!!. I love basically the whole setup and the analytical part of it… idk how anyone is saying it’s just like all the others apps, if you know anything about anything you’d see why it’s different 🙄 Although I did only give 4 out of 5 stars, because I’m confused as to why there’s no exercise expenditure for the day type of log or that can be integrated with the timeline already. Exercise varies, and although it took into account how sedentary you are, there might be a day where you are not and therefor you will be under calories, but the calories don’t reflect that… which is weird to me 🤔 Unless I missed something in the app. Personally this is something that would keep me from investing my money into, subscribing, cuz then I have to do the simple math myself. Currently I use an excel spreadsheet.
Way better than MFP. I was skeptical at first, and it took me a few days to adjust to MF and it’s UI, but a week in I’m genuinely blown away by how good this app is. - Recipes are 1000% more useful, by letting you set a total weight, volume, and serving size, or even automatically calculating raw weight of ingredients. - I always avoid “AI” stuff but the AI describe worked almost flawlessly for me, copying and pasting an entire recipe into the app in a few seconds without any errors - Logging is so fast, once you get the hang of it My only wish would be a feature to let you take a meal you’ve logged regularly in a day and convert it to a recipe, so you can easily mark if you don’t finish something, or have leftovers.
Switched from MyfitnessPal. After hearing about MacroFactor through various CrossFit and fitness communities, I decided to do the trial in conjunction with my fitness pal, which I have been using for a few years. MacroFactor has so many awesome resources, and knowledgeable people behind the app creating super fascinating, enlightening, and encouraging content as well as explaining how to best use the app. The app itself is faster than my fitness pal and specifically shows the things on the main page that I am most interested in tracking. I can see how the algorithm and growing data will help me reach my goals much faster than my fitness pal. The food index seems more precise. And creating recipes is so much easier than my fitness pal. For example, I make a gluten-free bread and was easily able to create the recipe in MacroFactor with it doing the math for nutrition per gram for logging. I can also edit the recipe unlike MyFitnessPal where you can’t go back in and edit it. It’s easier to track and see your progress- I’m excited to use this app to achieve my fitness goals!
A godsend. I don’t think I’ve ever reviewed an app before, but MacroFactor deserves ALLLLL the praise. It’s the first nutrition app I’ve found that’s super scientific, easy to use, and beautiful all at once. It’s also designed to be neutral, whether you meet your nutrition goals on a certain day or had an extreme overage. At no point do I feel any shame or like I’m bordering on pro-eating disorder behavior using this app. It’s just neutral, factual, and free of shame. All this makes it super easy to use consistently, and that means results. Slow, steady, sustainable results — the best kind. Additional love for the MF subreddit and the developer’s presence there. It really feels like a positive community, whether you’re a bodybuilder or just a regular person like me who wants to shed a few lbs and build some muscle. So, so worth the (very reasonable) investment!
Best App. MacroFactor is by far the best food tracking app I’ve used, paid or otherwise. It’s very intuitive and provides lots of great info to the user as you consistently log food and weight. What I enjoy most about it is it seems to have been made by experienced athletes for experienced athletes. It’s easy to use so anyone can use it but its clear that it is a cut about many other apps out there as there are customizable plans to gain and lose weight while maintaining muscle mass or minimizing fat gain. My favorite feature was being able to select a high protein diet on my cut and MacroFactor will make small changes to my calorie and macro intake to fit my needs as I cut. Great app very helpful
Can’t argue with results. The most important metric for a health product is how much it improves your health. By that metric, this app (somewhat narrowly) beats out even my gym membership and my fitness tracker. It is the best tool I could have possibly purchased for my health. I may never give it up, even when I eventually switch to a bill or maintenance phase. I have never lost weight this consistently in my life, and it’s never felt this easy. I barely even notice the deficit, because I’m fulfilling my nutritional goals and I don’t have to waste willpower or accrue extra stress trying to keep my diet straight. I can focus on self-control and the human element, and let the app take care of the science and calculations.
Love it more than I expected to!. I was a long-time user of Cronometer and hold a disdain for subscription business models. That’s just to say I have really high standards for things I’ll accept recurring charges for, and I’ve been blown away by MacroFactor! It’s so intuitive to use and the goal setting features are both accurate and helpful, and they are constantly improving the app. I’m so impressed with the team behind this, when my 2 week trial was up I happily paid for another year. I consider it a bargain (especially when you include how much free content they offer through the Stronger by Science blog & podcast!). This app offers incredible value for people tracking their nutrition for any reason, and the adherence-neutral nature of it makes it delightful to use compared to others. 10/10 & keep it up!! :)
only a few days in but I love it. This is one of the best apps I've downloaded in a really long time. The interface is so pleasant to interact with. I've never been a calorie counter but this app makes it fun and intuitive to log my nutrition and I feel like I'm already getting a better picture of my habits after just a few days! I also really appreciate the wealth of information on the MacroFactor website, and the way the app rewards personal accountibilty. I'm super excited to see how it performs after providing it with a few months of data, and I feel the subscription price is well worth it. Really glad I came across this app and excited to see how it progresses!
Die Hard MFP User. I was skeptical that anything would ever replace MFP for me, but here we are. I took Jeff Nippard’s word for it and downloaded MacroFactor. (To be fair, I would believe Jeff if he told me the only way to get jacked was to play a marathon game of ‘Balloon Can’t Touch the Ground’ every day while covered head to toe in Jane Fonda ankle weights and slathered in green tea belly fat shrinking oil even though I would silently wonder to myself if that was just his kink). So far it’s levels above MFP! The ads are a broken record of how fast the food logging is, which I never knew was a concern of mine until I downloaded MF and realized that MFP and just set the bar for that aspect completely on the ground! Anyways, ditch MFP. Download MF. You won’t regret it. (If you don’t lose weight using MF just try the recommended workout above. Jeff Nippard approved.)
8 days in and it’s my favorite tracking app. So far this has been an excellent app, easily my favorite nutrition tracker. It has fairly intuitive controls though I am still learning about some aspects to it. Though there are some features that I would love to see, this app still gets five stars because the developers are very involved with the feedback and their plans for the future. For those who are curious about why I think this is a step change, it is the first app to truly try to solve for the calories out portion of calories in versus calories out. The on boarding and coaching guidelines are very nice and goal neutral. Also you can tell that the app was made by people who love to look at data. The displays and explanations are very nice.
It has promise. I give it 3 stars because it has great potential, you can tell a lot of development and thought went into it. But the UX/UI isn’t the best. It’s clean looking, but difficult to navigate just to do something simple. I created a custom food, and when I went to “+” it just edits? NONE of my foods would pop up or show up, when I wanted to add food. There was no option for your recipes etc. It took forever to find out I had to type in the name of my created food and THEN it would pop up. For all the wrong things MyFitnessPal does, it does the basics like editing food and logging it nice and simple. I shouldn’t have to spend 10 minutes trying to navigate to do something that should only take 1 min tops. Again, it has promise and maybe I’ll re download down the road when they implement a simpler UX and features.
Best Food Tracking App Out There. At this point I have used Cronometer, My Fitness Pal, and Carbon Diet Coach. All of these have some strengths and weaknesses, but where I think MacroFactor really excels is just the ease of logging your food. The UI is very clean and intuitive. The dashboard gives me all the useful information I need, and if I want to check something specific it’s very easy to figure out how to do it. I have been using the app everyday for about the past two weeks, and so far the algorithm seems to be quite accurate. I also love the weight trend feature, which averages out my noisy scale weight data. Another thing that I would always find difficult in other apps is logging recipes. I would always end up just making simple foods since I couldn’t be bothered making some complicated dish with lots of ingredients since it would be too much of a PIA to track. Now I’m making cakes with multiple elements and I find that MacroFactor makes tracking all the ingredients seamless. Thoughtfully designed by people who clearly use it. I sprung for the annual subscription before my one-week trial was even up. It’s so quick and easy to use, and fully accurate! I’ve used a variety of tracking apps (MFP, LifeSum, LoseIt) and this one leaves them all behind. Unlike those apps (focused on users wanting to lose weight) this one is entirely unbiased in the interface. My goal is to maintain, and I haven’t seen a single nudge to cut calories—fantastic, thoughtful design. What really sold me on this was the self-adjusting TDEE tracker, but I also like the micronutrient (vitamins, minerals) tracking and how everything is out of the way when you don’t need it, but fully accessible when you’re curious. Highest recommendation!
Same Cost As Competitor But More Value. I was using a different calorie/macro-tracking app for about two years before I heard about this one. I downloaded it just to learn more and ended up quickly ditching the other app because the seamless UI instantly won me over. On top of that, the data visualizations are super varied and feel much more attuned to showing me the info I want to know. I really like the food log and I was stunned the first time I tried to add one of my recipes to another recipe and IT WORKED! Most of all, I’m happy to have something that tracks an estimate of my TDEE for me and allows for programs of any duration I want (rather than making me feel like I aaalways have to be working toward something).
Easiest macro-counter I’ve found!!!. I DO NOT like counting my macros but this is the easiest app I have seen to use. There are easy ways to log your food, I can either search by typing it in or using the bar scan, it’s simple to change the amount of food, by servings and by weight, and you can repeat foods you’ve already logged by copy, paste or move to that day😃There are so many other features like logging weight and you customize your dashboard. This app takes little time once you set it up to your likings and it has really helped me be accountable because I can see how many macros I have left for the day and gage what to eat the rest of the day.
Great app. Really enjoyable app to track progress. A few critiques though is I’d like to know what the app is thinking or if it makes a difference as far as my program goes when there is a day or 2 in the week where I don’t track on the app. A few days per week for me personally, I get too busy to use the app; And, although I’m tracking mentally, I’m not using the app. I’d like to know what that does or doesn’t change with the program. Also, I’d LOVE there to be a way to track JUST calories and protein, because that’s all I think is necessary to track for most people and I know a lot of others track that way. The app always wants to set carbs and fats and It would be great to be able to just track cals and protein.
The easiest macro tracking app ever. U see the title. I’ve tried my fitness pal and cronometer. This is the simplest macro tracking app that allows me to make the least decisions about my diet because it optimizes by macros for me based on my logging history using AI algorithms. I don’t wanna think about adjusting my macros. This takes out the guess work. Also the UI is simple, beautiful, and clean to look at and interact with. They make data easy to understand and actionable, and overall the app is not “clunky” feeling like a lot of the bigger competitors which I really like. It’s worth the subscription, seriously. If you aren’t willing to pay then you don’t care about your health enough or you are dead broke which is like the only real excuse.
I’ve tried it all. This is worth the subscription. I am a personal trainer and I have personally been using MyFitnessPal for over 5 years. I had been looking for a replacement with more specific numbers and an algorithm that knew more about my tracking than just calories and macros. This app is for those who are motivated by seeing all the fun numbers and statistics that go along with cutting and bulking. I absolutely love the weight tracking feature and how it shows you depending on if you continue at the rate you’re going, what SPECIFIC date you will reach your goal. If that isn’t motivating, idk what is. Best app for tracking calories, macros, weight, and for anyone who has a specific goal to reach and is sick of crash dieting! Thanks for creating this app, I am not going back to the other options.
Worth every penny!. I have used MyFitnessPal for the longest time and even decided to use Carbon for a while because I always felt my calories were off. It had me eating 2,000 calories at 200 pounds and I was always exhausted, tired, and no libido. I heard about MF through Will Tennyson’s video he made with Jeff Nippard and decided to try it out for two weeks. It has me eating 2,700 calories a day and I have been losing weight and feel my metabolism, energy, and hormone levels increasing. I feel overall so much better. The AI feature to describe your meal is perfect for going out to eat, and the food list is massive so it’s easy to find and log. I highly recommend this app to anybody.
The best. I've used a few food trackers, MacroFactor, Cronometer, Carbon, and MFP. This is the best one. Logging is fast and simple, macros are verified and accurate, and the check ins are great. UI is great and flexible; UX is an absolute joy to use, very intuitive. How it stacks up to the competition: MyFitnessPal - This app started it, but it’s become a joke. Horrible database, basic features behind a paywall and nothing great behind the paywall that other better apps get you for free. Carbon - Very similar to MacroFactor, but it has very strict adherence for the check-in to work. This is the reason I switched to MacroFactor and never went back. Other than that, they are very similar. Cronometer - I used this app for years, but the calorie adjustments to your goals are not robust and nearly as good. Granted, that’s not what Cronometer is meant for. The one place it’s a bit better than MF is micros. MF has added micro nutrient tracking, and it’s good enough for what I want and need, but Cronometer is still better in this regard. If you’re really after micronutrient tracking (maybe you have a deficiency you’re trying to fix without supplementation), Cronometer may be a better fit for you. If I had to rank them; MacroFactor > Cronometer >>> Carbon >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MyFitnessPal
Game Changer. This has been the only app to ever actually help me lose weight without feeling like it was a gimmick or pushing me too hard to hit unreasonable goals. As long as you tell it the truth, and weigh your food, this app will keep you on the right path. I sometimes go over my calories or have cheat days but I give it all the data and it adjusts to me and how my body is responding to the calories. It’s not a guess or estimate it is truly cause and effect. I work out more, it will notice and add more calories not because I’m telling it I worked out but because my weight is changing faster and it’s noticed I need more food. Down 40 lbs in 7 months and couldn’t be happier.
King of them all. I have used so many different food logging apps over so many years that I’m too scared to count. I finally ended up on MyFitnessPal and used it consistently for over 3 years. I really did not want to switch from MyFitnessPal because it has the most extensive food database of them all. I was hesitant about Macro Factor but decided to try it for a week. It is now my app of choice. It’s food database is not the largest but it may be the cleanest and most accurate as they say they manually go through it before allowing new foods to be added globally. It really is well designed and it is EASILY the fastest app in terms of food logging. Their developers clearly put a lot of work into this and it shows. MyFitnessPal has actually moved backwards in terms of this feature over the years and that is super important because logging food is what you’ll spend the most time doing and it can be the most painful part of using these types of programs. This is easily the best out there and you will know by the end of the 7 day free trial if you agree. This thing rocks!
Good, needs a lot of improvement. I’ve been a paid subscriber for the last year. I am very disciplined about tracking my calories and weighing in. There’s a lot to like about the app, and I do recommend it. However, the user interface is clunky at best and confusing and actively unhelpful at worst. Food logging has gone backwards, it used to do a lookup based on, I think, the last few times a food was logged and show anything used in the log. That no longer happens. So logging a sandwich is a PITA now. I have a protein shake nearly every morning and my protein shake recipe never ever comes up as higher than #12 in the suggestion list. Ever. It should be the first match! I do scrambled eggs too, but they never show up in the first page of suggestions either. Checking in is opaque - calorie decisions made by the algorithm aren’t explained and don’t seem to make sense. We weigh ourselves every day, so why is this action two taps away - it’s same number of taps as recipes? Focus on the actions we always do and present them right up front. If you’re entering multiple foods and make a mistake, it is way too easy to delete all the foods, forcing you have to re-enter them again. Focus on usability for a while please. Read Tufte. These problems were solved by others long ago.
AI needs to adapt quicker. I lost a lot of water weight a month ago, and the app still thinks that was due to calorie intake, so it’s setting my calorie targets WAY above where it should be, even though my weight has been steady now for the last two weeks. The AI needs to weight recent weight loss / not / calorie intake more heavily than events from a month ago to be more helpful. It’s not bad, there are lots of features I like about the app, but the reason I’m paying for it is for the AI aspects. But right now the AI is WAY off and it’s hard to adjust. I could just set all my targets manually, but if that’s the case I don’t need to be paying for the app. Not to mention, manually setting is much more cumbersome than it needs to be. Let me just put in the calorie goal and then use sliders to adjust my macros like in the other calculators, rather than having to put in each individual macro and do all the math.
Best fitness app on the market not close. For close to 10 years I have been trying to lose weight and have tried every other app you can name. Now the app isn’t the reason why I stayed committed to the process this time unlike the other 6/7 times I tried to seriously lose weight however it definitely helped. It’s super interactive it’ll adjust to your lifestyle, you don’t feel as guilty having a cheat day here or there because you know the algorithm will adjust the calories to make sure you’re still on track. Also the AI photo functions for when going out for a meal is insane. Is it 100% accurate calorie counting wise? Probably not but it’s still just something else that helped my mental throughout the journey. I can say I’ve lost nearly 90 lbs using this thing and I love it. Cheers.
Best tracker app!. I’ve used my fitness pal in the past and when I went to download it and noticed that now you have to pay to be able to have the label scanner. So I kept looking around. Came across Jeff Nippards videos as I just recently got back into fitness, and was watching Jesse James west as well. Noticed they both used this app, and Jeff helped create it and I know he’s a science based lifter. So I gave the free trial a try, and from the jump I loved the look of the app. I could tell there were a lot more benefits in paying for this versus other apps. I highly recommend this app. Being able to see the calendar makes you stay disciplined to track your macros every day. Honestly didn’t want to pay for an app to track, but this one has been well worth the money!
I have never felt better losing weight. After two weeks of using MacroFactor I was very happy to pay for the yearly subscription. At the end of the first week, the app offered me a 120 kcal a day increase, which helped me to space out my meals around my workouts more proficiently, and the same thing happened the second week while I still kept losing weight. I don’t know about other people, but I love to eat and knowing that I can eat AND lose weight just motivates me like never before. Just log your food and weight daily, try to adhere to your macros as much as possible and don't rush, and I believe this app will help you to lose weight sustainably without rebounding. To wrap up, I love the app and the only thing I think needs a little bit of work is the food database.
Easy to log food - I question the algorithm. This is very easy to use as a food logger and has a large database. It also integrates well with health kit. So, for food logging I give it five stars. My one complaint is this so called algorithm on how many calories to eat. In theory, it is an interesting approach - let’s measure what you eat and balance that against your weight to find the right number of calories to meet your goals. In practice, it seems flawed - primarily because it doesn’t use my activity data that is right there and accessible from health kit. Seriously, why would you not use the activity data to get a more accurate picture and then you can back into a base metabolism rate vs some all in number. I just don’t get it, it isn’t rocket science - it right there in health kit, other apps use this data why not this app?
Best nutrition app. This app is a game changer. I spent many years on my fitness pal and lose it but never had the same success as I do with MacroFactor. This app not only allows you to lose weight, but it is overall encompassing health app if you want to cut if you wanna bulk if you wanna maintain this app can help you do it. I love how tailored this app can get for you if you want to be simple and just lose weight you can do it if you want to get super complex and track your macros carbs and nutrients you can do it as well. And of course, the best part of this app is that it accurately tracks your metabolism so it gives you accurate measures of what you need to eat for the week because I have a personal trainer without having personal trainer.
Great insight and detailed information. I like this app and it has great potential to provide a detailed insight into your nutrition. I would like to see if you can add a actual expenditure. A way for us to add our workout. I think there are some formulas out there that can calculate the amount of calories burned based on height weight, intensity (light, medium, heavy or slow, moderate or fast) and time. I think adding something like that would really improve the overall view of what we are consuming versus what we are expending and would help us determine if we need to make adjustments to our diet. I have a heart condition so I have to monitor my sodium intake. I think adding a page on the food log that displays overall total nutrition for the day that show our total vitamins, minerals etc. for the day would be very helpful.
Best science-based nutrition tracking. This is the best macro-focused and science-based nutrition tracking app available right now. It’s amazing the app is only a year old! One of the biggest features is the flexibility. Rather than logging food to a meal, it’s only logged to a timeline for the day. This provides more flexibility for eating and encourages you to track accurately. This is unlike other apps I’ve used, which log to meals, creating a pressure to only eat 3-4 rigid, calorie locked meals per day. Macrofactor is very flexible, provides accurate data, and easy to use, making it easy to create a habit of tracking. And because physique change is about consistency, Macrofactor makes it easier to achieve my goals.
Really Good So Far!. I know generally how to plan meals and track nutrition data but it’s annoying to pencil things down. I only started using the app a couple days ago but I love how the foods I eat often are already catalogued and I can quickly search and add them to see macro progress for the day. Very interested to see how the analytics tool performs and what it recommends based on my progress. If that portion provides useful insights I’d consider this app the best diet and weight loss/gain coach app available. The people behind it are very reliable and seem to approach exercise and nutrition with a science backing which is so important to mitigate wasteful efforts. Worth the monthly fee if you’re serious about tracking and progressing your weight loss or weight gain goals.
First food tracker that has worked for me!. Over Eating has always been my issue! Hence why I exercise so much! But as I have gotten into my late 40s, my body can’t exercise the way it use too, hence gaining weight! This app has been the first app to really help me track. The AI component is amazing!! It easily can tell what you are eating and figure out the calories! I do hope with time I can do it better on my own so I can be more accurate. However since this area is a difficult area for me as I’m starting out, having the AI help is so beneficial. The app also lets the ladies track their periods which I find incredibly helpful to see how my hormones play a distinct part in my cravings!!! Highly recommend!!!
Works if you stick to it!. This app is fantastic at giving all the data you need to either maintain a healthy diet or start one from scratch. Food log data base is pretty solid- it’s very easy to add products or items that it doesn’t have. One my favorite features is the recipes option; so convenient for people who meal prep or have their go-to meals. The calorie and macro suggestions given for dietary preferences are also pretty spot on. The only things I would suggest is: 1. Be cautious of the calorie deficit suggestions for weight loss if you’re not putting in accurate body weight or maintenance calories. Data might say you need a 1K deficit for the first week or so and then realize that’s insane for any person and adjust as you log consistently (ex. It wanted me to intake 1300 cal/day average but my maintenance was 2200+). 2. Would love if the app could connect to activity/health trackers (FitBit, Apple Watch, etc.) to see real time activity and adjust calories. There are other diet apps I’ve used that had this option and it’s the only thing from keep this app 100% perfect. Other than that, so worth it! I’m in the best shape of my life because this app is keeping me in check!
Best macro tracker I’ve used. Over the last few years I’ve gone from the premium version of My Fitness Pal, to Cronometer, and now to MacroFactor. MacroFactor is far and away the best of them. It has the cleanest and easiest to use interface, a robust food database, and it’s AI describe feature is great when you’re unable to weigh the food you’re consuming. Additionally, the ever adjusting calorie recommendations based on your goals, weigh-ins, and previous caloric intake is a game changer, allowing you to easily stay on track to whatever your objective is. Finally, there’s terrific customer support, an engaged and enthusiastic community, and a published roadmap to see what features are coming in the future. This app is truly a bargain at its annual subscription price.
Fun to Use, Masterfully Crafted App. I don’t typically review apps on the App Store. I’m compelled to write this one. I’ve used this app for 7 days, coming from using MyFitnessPal for over 7 years. This is by far the more fun app to use. It lacks some nutritional data for niche food items that MFP may have, but more than makes up for it in usability and design. It’s a masterful display of the developer’s deep understanding of the user’s intent. It feels like you want a tracking app to feel which is so key to remaining consistent with nutrition planning and tracking. So far, this feels like my favorite “Mom and Pop” app, if you will. As a data person and fitness enthusiast, I have been super impressed with the quality of the data that gets shown and how it gets shown. It also feels like the tip of the iceberg, since the app appears to evolve and become more useful from a data standpoint as I progress toward my goals (with the dynamic coaching feature, for example). Excited to see that unfold. Happy to pay for an app that delivers. And this one does. Thank you for building a solid product.
Incredible App. Super useful app - I really can’t say enough good things about it. I’ve been a Chronometer user for years and didn’t think that improvement was possible in calorie trackers but, man, was I wrong. I started playing a lot of tennis and a few months later wanted to focus on weight loss/recomp. I kind of figured that I would always be a little miserable and my playing would suffer if I was in a calorie deficit - until I started using macro factor. I’m losing weight, gaining muscle, and always feel like I have enough energy to play at a good level. Whatever algorithm they use is really really good at figuring out how to make you lose weight slowly and sustainably without feeling terrible all the time. Genuinely thank you for making this app - it’s such a good enabler to help you meet whatever goals you have.
Best calorie and macro tracker and it’s not close. I’ve used a bunch of different calorie and macro trackers over the years as Ive tried to hit different weight and fitness goals. The most successful I am has always been when I used myfitnesspal alongside tracking my TDEE in a spreadsheet, then upping a lowering my calorie and macro goals week to week. The fact that Macrofactor does all of that for me and adjusts accordingly has greatly reduced the time and effort I need to put into tracking everything. I’m currently in a slow bulk and it has made the process way less painful and therefore easier to achieve. If you’ve ever plateaued on a diet/cut/bulk and didn’t know why or how to fix it… this app essentially just removes that entirely. Just log all your food and daily weight and hit the numbers it tells you. I’m also a web developer/software developer and IMO the app is built very well and is super easy to use. Also love the AI description feature which makes estimating non-exact meals and eating out super quick. Worth the monthly subscription for the features and well built app. Really appreciate there not being ads either. Thanks!
Best tracker by far. I used myFitnessPal for about 5 weeks. At first I was making progress, but then I hit a plateau. Switched to MacroFactor and after a few days of tracking, the app updated my goal to reflect the changes occurring in my metabolism. This helped me push through the plateau. It also helps that the user interface is much easier to navigate than myFitnessPal. My only complaint is that it is still hard to track complex recipes for things like sauces and marinades, especially when they're made from scratch. I always end up looking up a product online that is similar to the sauce or marinade I cooked and using the macros listed by the manufacturer.
Not easy enough to use. It just doesn’t make logging food easy enough for me to continue paying for it as I find myself dreading inputting food unless I have a barcode to scan… searching for foods is clunky and the database of foods isn’t deep enough. For example, I found my usual Starbucks drink but not in Venti and also the nutrition facts didn't match the Starbucks website. Spent 15 minutes trying to find the right one and eventually just added it myself. Took me a bit to get used to the interface. The biggest challenge, not only specific to this app, is logging food that you don’t prepare yourself which even when you create every recipe… is so incredibly time consuming. I found building recipes more laborious on than previous apps. I’ve already done a lot of that in Myfitnesspal and find editing in there easier despite the wealth of bad or old food data. Just can’t see myself paying for MacroFactor… yet.
Weight goals guaranteed!!!. This app journey has been a bit intense but extremely effective. I’m already a pretty lean guy and since it’s nearly spring I wanted to cut for the summer. The only problem is I couldn’t figure out how get rid of some stubborn fattier areas without sacrificing too much of my muscle. Not sure how healthy it is but for the past two weeks I’ve lost 12 lbs going from 184lbs to 172lbs. I went from slightly visible abs to fairly defined abs. You’d think I was starving myself but by following the super high protein diet while ensuring I have enough fiber as well I feel satiated throughout the day and I haven’t noticed any issues with muscle loss. My strength dropped a little as expected in a cut but only by 10%. If you are disciplined and follow this app to the T I garuntee that you’ll get results in no time!
Needs some tweaks but very nice. Ive tried a few calorie tracking apps the past couple of years and MacroFactor is one of the best apps because it views your food in a neutral way instead of Lifesum, which has a happy or sad face and telling you the pros and cons of each food. The time logging feature, timestamps and small details of each meal is very helpful. I really would like to see the app have a feature where you can save foods you frequently log so you dont have to rescan a barcode or type the food again. Also I think having more verified nutritional information for the food portion of the app could help alot because I see so much user created foods that are so off compared to the actual nutritional content. Overall nice app with great information for users to understand + reach their goals
