DeepL Translate Comments & Reviews 2026
Best translator. My bi lingual Costa Rican friend suggested this translator over google translate. I use both still however I agree with her after using both. Something I would love to see added would be phonetics. My Spanish speaking friend who I have a language swap friendship with prefers to learn English phonetically and that is not something I’m good at figuring out on my own. We use the app a lot in our practice sessions. I would love to stay in this app instead of using another one for that.
Submitting bug reports costs money?. Bug report - iPhone 13 Pro - iOS 15.7.1 If I type in a foreign word to translate, and it’s similar enough to an English word that autocorrect suggests it, the ability to press the x to ignore the suggestion is broken. The suggestion tooltip can’t be closed, and upon pressing the space bar immediately replaces the typed word, effectively breaking the app’s primary functionality if any word you want to translate vaguely resembles an English one. The only way around this I’ve found is to type the foreign language text elsewhere and copy/paste it into the app. Apparently the ability to submit a bug report or contact the developer at all is a feature exclusive to paid subscriptions, so I am forced to do it here to hopefully get their attention. I like the app and will update my rating to reflect my overall satisfaction if the dev acknowledges this.
Almost Perfect. I’m learning french and I use this for helping me with my vocabulary and grammar. It’s better than all other translation software out there. Other translators have trouble with things like “I’m going outside.” for instance.: “I’m going outside.” DeepL: «Je sors.» Perfect. Google translate and other translators: «Je vais à l’exterior.» “I’m going to the exterior.” Will make you sound like a pretentious moron if you try to say that to someone who speaks french. There are things that DeepL will struggle with, and that’s idioms. «C’est mon bête.»/«C’est mon bête noir» - “that annoys me.” The direct translation is “It’s my beast”/“It’s my black beast” and DeepL will give you “it’s my beast”/“it’s my black beast” as a translation. This could just be that it’s a french idiom, so i’m not really all that mad, but i wish that it could give an english meaning to an idiom as well as the idiom directly, I think it’d be fun.
Buggy after two weeks use. I was thrilled to find an alternative to Google translate. I'm a heavy user working daily in two languages. At first I was impressed with the desktop version making my life much easier with two keystrokes. Unfortunately, and to my embarrassment, I began getting comments that the translation did not make sense. Once I began looking I found repeated phrases, words I did not write inserted and gibberish that makes the translation unusable. For now I'm back to Google translate using your app only to quickly reverse translate messages sent TO me. I can't trust your translation and don't have the knowledge or time to check every time I use it. I give you an accuracy rating of 3 out of 10 and a confidence level of 2 out of 10. In order for me to use your product, which I would like due to security concerns about Google, you need to achieve 8-9's out of 10. I'd like to hear what your plans are for achieving acceptable levels and when.
The most accurate translator ever. I’ve been through a lot of translators and as a native trilingual (Spanish, French and English) I can affirm that DeepL definitely takes into account 99% of linguistic details. Accurate grammatical translation, accurate translation of expressions, this is the perfect translator, the app could use a few more tools when compared to the google translate app for example but if your looking for accuracy then you’ve definitely found the right translator!
Want nuance? Download DeepL.. I’ve been speaking Japanese for eight years, and NO app (looking at you, Google Translate) has mastered idiomatic and colloquial translation like this one. Considering its often uncanny accuracy between English and Japanese, I can only imagine how well it performs for closer languages. I do have one suggestion for user-friendliness (specific to Japanese): Add furigana to the kanji and/or a romanized rendering of the translation. This is a perfect app for an intermediate/advanced Japanese speaker, but given what I’ve experienced even with my proficiency, it must alienate beginners entirely. If you don’t know kanji, and there is no furigana or romaji to supplement, then the translation is literally unreadable.
10/10, Would Recommend. Love this translator and how accurate it is! I don’t really travel to places with different languages, but I own several characters that don’t speak english, and having something to translate into their languages and actually be able to make the characters talk is really helpful!! I really hope to see more languages added soon, especially Irish language, because it’s one of the languages I have an unusual infatuation with.
I don’t give reviews!!!. But this time I do, I’m currently learning Russian English is my original language I’m fascinated with languages and yes this is going to be a one long sentence so no grammar Nazis! I came across deep L some months ago and became fascinated with the project. Since then it is my go to source it’s accurate it gives you suggestions as well as corrections. Anyone that’s trying to learn Russian understand there’s like 50 words for one word in English it’s all about context deep l covers that! 100% behind this project I wish there was more that I could do!
Best translator, private too!. UPDATED! DeepL (Pro), how I love thee, let me count the ways: This is my favorite translator, with more accurate word definitions than I’ve found elsewhere (proven in my language classes, translating scores of documents I submitted for my residency permit, and for communication with my non-English speaking family), including suggested variations on word and phrase translations. The addition of features found in the other big translator—scanned live translation, photos, documents—means I can FINALLY delete that other app, much to my delight! If you use the online/desktop versions of this app, DeepL also has an editable and recallable glossary, and for those with a Pro account: formal and informal translation options (such as found in languages like German). You can even click on a word or phrase in the translation to trigger a pop up of suggested edits. Another bonus: the makers have designed this app with privacy in mind, collecting no personally identifying data. And one more thing: the big-name translator uses almost four times as much memory as this app. Thank you DeepL team!
completely indispensable for French. Impossible to say enough good things about this app, which I’ve mostly used on my iPhone. A quick list that comes to mind (before I get back to using it!!!!) is: the ability to look at & switch between the “tu” and “vous” forms when writing emails & texts; the Share function is exceptionally handy for reading emails, texts, and web pages; the text translation from photos / the camera is soooooo helpful when wishing to read signs, letters, bills, and packaging at the grocery (and other kinds of) store(s); the translation of PDFs is RIDICULOUSLY HELPFUL for those moments in life when the manufacturers of both your washing machine & electric range don’t have instruction manuals available in English because their given model is only sold in the French market. Very truly: I could go on & on, but suffice it to say: as a person living in France & speaking limited French & trying to learn the language better: DeepL is an absolutely indispensable tool— UN GRAND MERCI À TOUTE LA FAMILLE DEEPL !!!!!!! / EIN GROSSES DANKESCHÖN AN DIE GESAMTE FAMILIE DEEPL !!!!!!!
English to Japanese. Japanese to English after dating a Japanese woman for 19 months I give it a B+. Required me to ask her what she meant in some cases, and with some words and it did poorly with gender him and her or you and I and occasionally would lose it’s mind completely but mostly I could read as it was English. However, English to Japanese is a disaster and she refuses to read it at all. Even when I translate the same letter Japanese to English and then back to Japanese and back to English again without changing anything, the meaning is different, so many errors and without knowing what it says in Japanese, many misunderstandings take place. English to Japanese is absolutely horrible! What is happening? Why is it so bad when Japanese to English is rather good?
Wonderful app! Could be improved with a setting for gendered languages. Gendered languages are difficult to learn if your mother tongue is not gendered, and the default is always masculine (sometimes neutral). It would be nice if there was a setting you could choose to ask the app to consistently translate verbs and nouns for you in one “gender.” It’s not fun to have to declare “your gender” all the time in the forms of your self descriptive nouns and verbs while learning gendered languages, but it would be a lot easier to learn how to do that if you could choose a setting (masculine , feminine, neutral) for the app to translate in. Otherwise, really helpful, and I appreciate how it offers multiple translations and can handle shorthand/slang. Really great translation tool.
Need More languages. This is my favorite and the best type I'm using from years. I have a request for you guys if you can add other languages specially my own native language Punjabi. It will be very helpful for our community they are looking for some app like this they are in every corner of the world and the small but hard-working and dominating community in every field to the work. They need an app like this that can be so easy to use and can translate our language quickly everywhere. if you guys can add Punjabi language it will be a big work from you guys thank you.
Good but could be a bit better.. I like this app seeing as it is pretty accurate, but doesn’t always get everything correct. If I may also make a suggestion to improve it….maybe think about adding a camera section? Like being able to use a cell phone/other device’s camera feature to snap a picture of something to translate. I actually found this app through a Japanese person that was using it to speak with me. I asked them what translator they were using because it was pretty accurate and they recommended this one to me specifically to try out. Keep up the great work and please do consider the suggestion of the camera feature. I think that would help a lot of people. Especially on the go when visiting foreign/unfamiliar places.
Best translator but I got ripped off with the paid subscription. Definitely the best phone translator. Transcribes English to Korean and back extremely well. However, I needed more data usage and paid for the monthly subscription, that offers unlimited text translation. However, it stopped this service after about 15 days and said I need to upgrade to an even higher level. I upgraded to the only other level offered, which provided both translation and deep write. Paid an additional $14/month. However, I am still locked out and I keep getting a response I need to upgrade again, but no other upgrades are offered. Very frustrating
Good translations but some interface issues. I keep changing my review because this app keeps changing in significant ways under the covers while maintaining the same general appearance. It’s uncanny. In any case, many of the previously reported problems are fixed. I was planning on visiting the App Store a couple weeks ago to give this app a much deserved (for its actual translation quality) 4 star rating at least. But, out of caution, I wanted to wait a bit. And just like clockwork, they managed to wrestle a defeat from the jaws of victory. Again. Something new is broken. It used to be only “frustrating” that if you’re dictating text, and you hit the “copy” button while the mic is open, you’d merely not get the text. It would not actually copy it, you have to hit it a second time, because the first time just stops the mic from listening. I can’t tell you how many times, when trying to work quickly, I ended up pasting the message someone had sent me back to them, because that was the last thing that was actually copied; my response wasn’t. Well, it doesn’t do that any more. Great, huh? Well… what it does now is, if you tap the copy button while the mic is open, it turns off the mic… and deletes your text. That’s right. Not only does it not copy it, but a second tap won’t copy it either because the text is gone. You have to re-enter it. This moves into the “exasperating” category. I still don’t understand why they can’t seem to fix one thing without breaking something else that was working before. There’s something to be said for relying on prior art. Having a checklist. Anyway, we’re back to 2 stars. This is ALL based on usability, by the way, as the translations themselves remain, I think, superior to the competition’s.
Great app on computer. The app is lacking functionality!. I love and use Deepl all the time when I’m doing work on my computer. However, using it on my phone leaves me wanting! It lacks the functionality of choosing between formal and informal communication and I don’t have the capacity to change isolated words in the translation as I do with the computer app. Give them 6 months to a year and this thing should be developed into a robust translation tool! Could you guys also add Ukrainian, Arabic and Persian? That would help everyone in Europe out tremendously!
The best but new version has flaws. It’s the most accurate translator out there. Sometimes I have to correct tu/usted inconsistencies but that’s all. BUT, the new version adding the new features makes the interface way too cluttered and crowded and makes typing more difficult and prone to hitting the wrong button. Also, when you join for a year it only lets you log in on one device so I can’t switch between iPhone and iPad without signing out and in again, which stinks. That’s so … 2010… every app allows multi device use these days.
App problems & slow support. I was really hopefully and excited to use this recommended app, but they fell way short! This app has technology problems, what their help center says to do doesn’t work or is not available on their app or from a laptop. Which this is frustrating when you trying understand how to use this app and get something translated. Also, the tech support is AI generated, but when you reply back like it asks you to, it takes several days to get a response back from an actual person. Then if you respond quickly to their response it takes several more days to get another response—-frustrating for sure. Which is really too late when I needed to get the translation done several days before. Their email back to you does say it can take up to 5 days to get a response, but to me in today’s technology world, that is way too long. But they don’t tell you that when you pay for the subscription, only after you have a problem. I would move to the next translation app. A company is only as good as its customer service! Good luck
Almost the perfect app. I really love DeepL and it is annoying that if I give it 4 stars that could be in doubt. 5 stars is overkill for most apps honestly. If a language you use is here, download it! The system is immensely better than G Translate, particularly because you can help give direction to the AI, like tones, formality etc. However, I would love if the iOS app made this as effective as the desktop one. I haven’t found a way to integrate it as much on the phone as the computer. Also since they are expanding the languages, I hope they had Vietnamese. This will stop me from using anything else.
Great Translations, Great Limitations. DeepL does the most natural, context aware translations of any online machine translation service I’ve tried (much more so than a certain g*** translate). This free app has a very modest character limitation, but I have no complaints, again this is a free app, five stars. But I pay for DeepL Pro and I hope a DeepL Pro iOS app is in the works or maybe they could work the pro features into the free app and allow access after logging in. The Mac app does that.
Missing feature. The only translator you will ever need, however deeply online carries a dictionary function that I use as a language student all the time. However the app doesn’t have this, I canr even tell you how much I use The online dictionary but it would be nice to be able to do it in the app. And the online one is already amazing and Robles normal dictionary’s in the fact that it can find words that have meanings for phrases such as the word verlieben witch showed up after searching “to fall in love”. Simply importing the online dictionary would be in invaluable.
The most accurate free translation app I’ve found.. This was recommended to me by a native Spanish speaker, saying it was more accurate than just using the one by the popular search engine. I use it regularly for Spanish and mandarin, and have used it for Italian too. My only note is that when I need to hear the translation spoken the robot says it SO FAST. It’s also lower volume even though my settings are up high. Over all I really like and recommend the app, I just wish it had an option to speak a little slower lol
Best Translater Ever. Forget about Google Translate! More privacy and more accurate than Google translations. Update. After using the app for a few weeks now it lacks accuracy compared to Google Translate especially for translations Spanish-English or vice versa. Some common phrases in particular Latin America Spanish are wrongly translated or are omitted at all. It needs a lot of improvement to be accurate. Still needs a lot improvement compared to Google Translate. I’m glad that until now I have not deleted Google. Even after the recent update DeepL lacks a lot of accuracy. I have to revise my earlier comment to forget Google Translate. Google remains the most accurate by all I have ever tried, plus it’s free. DeepL mostly omits certain words in a longer sentence to translate and the translation sometimes makes no sense at all if I compare it with Google.
Very Nice!. This is my personal opinion on this app. In general, I think it’s great, and I would rate it five stars… apart from the fact that there are limited languages. Of course, that’s not the biggest deal, but that’s just what I believe. For example, Korean isn’t available (as stated by a few other reviews I’ve seen), so I commonly use translators that aren’t as accurate, and unequivocally they barely make sense with translations. Another conflict I have with limited languages is the image translator, since occasionally I need to translate photos — I was sad to see the language I needed was not available, and once again had to resort to inadequate translators. (Which thought some languages were other languages…) Other than that, the app is great and I love it! :) Edit: Okay, I have seen the new update and they added more languages! My points about this being a great app still stand and I would recommend this to anyone who needs a reliable translator.
Allow feedback!!!!. So this app is my go-to for translation and much better than Google Translate and others. The biggest issue however is that it does not allow feedback to correct for its errors. As an example, for Italian, it always translates the English “you” to the Italian “voi,” which is really only used as a plural second person pronoun, or plural version of “you” (i.e. “you guys,” “y’all” etc). In most instances, the singular “ti/te” etc is more appropriate. But the app isn’t smart enough to recognize this or allow feedback. Do better software engineers! It’s 2023.
Deepl - Another gov. company run by a bunch of rats. - Translations are incorrect too often. - Doesn't work on my iPhone anymore. Says I’m not connected to the internet, which just isn’t true. I’ve deleted and reinstalled, and still says the same thing. My guess is that they are just phasing out certain iOS’s. - Used to be able to translate 5,000 characters for free, then they changed to 3k, and now all of a sudden this scum company lets you translate 1500.... which I’m sure is just to force you get you to pay for a subscription. Next you’re only gonna be able to translate a paragraph for free. Rats.. - Just like every other money hungry company, you can pay monthly to have a subscription (surprise surprise), but never able to just buy a service outright. So add that onto every other app/service you’re paying for monthly/yearly. People, thanks to companies like this your now guaranteed to be working for the rest of your life. It’s just dumb. Every testimonial they show you praising deepl is from the biggest satanic companies on the planet. So what does that say about DeepL.
Good translations, robotic voice. I find this app useful for English-Polish translations but it can be frustrating to use There are two minor issues. First, the website allows you to tap on a word in the Polish translation and select a different word. You can see how the sentence changes using an alternate translation. I wish this app had a similar feature. Two, tapping on the speaker icon gives the pronunciation in the most robotic voice I’ve ever heard. The voice isn’t clear and there is no way to change the speed. I also can’t find a way to select male or female voice. Update: many things have improved but DeepL still has an occasional „clinker” of a translation. This seems to occur because the translation is word-for-word and not phrase-for-phrase. There seems to be no way to report this. My favorite: „Nie bój żaba” which DeepL translates as „Don’t be afraid of the frog.” The full phrase is „Don’t worry.” or „Have no fear.” (no frog)
Fantastic Tool - One Request. A full five stars to DeepL, it’s far and away the best translator I’ve ever used. Over the years it’s become my exclusive translator and I use it frequently for language learning. I do have one idea/request that I’ve found useful with Google Translate in the past: if an app user has multiple language keyboards installed, could the keyboard change automatically to match the input language? For example, if one presses the swap button to initiate German>English translation, could the app simultaneously pull up the pre-installed German alphabet keyboard, and visa versa if they were to swap back to English>German? While I feel the app already leaves little room for improvement, this feature would make the user experience that much more efficient. Thank you!
The best translation tool I’ve encountered in 28 years. I’ve been translating professionally for 28 years, having been the first to introduce Japanese visual novels to the English market. All that time I wished there was some kind of tool to help translation, and make it easier and more accurate. Tools like Google translate, always come up short, but DeepL is the first two I found that allows me to translate a LINE, then edit it to make sure everything is correct. It’s one of the most amazing software tools I’ve ever encountered.
So much better than the rest.. DeepL nails most translations, even really complex and specialized one. The translation engine behind it is absolutely incredible, few things need to be fixed manually. The app is still a bit simple but it does the job. Its companion dictionary app Linguee is also so much more sophisticated than those Google, Microsoft and Apple translators from Silicon Valley. Makes sense that a company from multilingual Europe has the lead here…
Made me sign-in and immediately blocked the screen for other apps. OK. Great translation program, but started giving me constant pop-ups demanding that I create an account. Since the translation is good, I did so; gave my email and signed in. IMMEDIATELY, I could not remove the predictive typing bar from the bottom of the screen, which blocks the buttons of another application I require, rendering it unusable. I cannot use either app without being able to click-away the predictive typing bar. I have therefore logged out and I will have to stay out unless and until the problem is fixed, whereupon I would renew my subscription and revise this review.
Love the possibilities. So I am now using this app over Google translate. I love that it provides different options for possible translation. I love—-LOVE the ability to slow the audio down, as I need to hear the inflections when listening to Russian! I wish it would stay that way and not require me toggling that each time I start the app. Also, can it “smartly” select the keyboard when I change the language input? That would be great. I don’t know how the PRO version works.
Voice sound needs improvement. Use it for French. Very accurate and I love the option for alternative words and sentences. But the sound of the voice playback is horrible and sounds like a robot. This seems unacceptable in the age of AI.. The sound of the voices in Google Translate sound like real humans and are far superior. Deep L voice is painful and sounds like it’s from the 90s. Also, the layout is a little bit clumsy compared to Google Translate. I feel if these two things were improved, this app would be perfect.
Latest Version Lost Critical Functionality. This app isn’t cheap. But I have found it worth the price tag as its translation abilities from English to Portuguese are the best I’ve experienced. I live in Portugal and am very dependent on this app. But, sometimes it misses the right words and gets it all wrong. I have found its dictionary function invaluable to double-check certain words, so I can be sure its right before I send a message. So I was absolutely SHOCKED when this functionality disappeared recently, making the app no better than any other app (most far less expensive) out there. I sent a message and was informed that the dictionary function indeed has been disabled for the phone app. Why? This functionality was so useful and to disable it makes no sense. Also, its not what I purchased. I now need to go to a different app to look up certain words, which is ridiculous given that DeepL clearly has the ability to offer this as a phone app. Many of us use translation apps on our phones, not desktops, so this is very very disappointing and makes me lose confidence that with a paid subscription DeepL won’t make other decisions that take functionality away. I won’t continue paying for this app as it’s considerably less robust than when I purchased it almost a year ago.
The best at translation, not great at collecting the data. I’ve used a lot of translation software for Japanese to English and vice versa. This is easily the best app at that. It handles idiomatic and specialized text exceedingly well. I’m keeping one star away because it has a translation from pictures function that is unusable. Its document translation is also very poor, often with significant formatting issues. If it didn’t claim it could do that I’d give it 5 stars but until it improves those features it’s 4.
Really good at what it does, but the free limits are annoying. This is one of those apps that feels better than a lot of translation apps the moment you start using it. The design is clean, fast, and not cluttered, which I really appreciate. It usually feels polished, and the translations often sound more natural and less robotic than what I get from some other apps. What I like most is that it feels simple. Open app, paste text, get a result quickly. No mess, no confusing layout, no feeling like I have to fight the app. For normal real-life use, that matters a lot. If I needed to understand a message, translate a paragraph, or check wording, I would trust this app more than most. What keeps it from being a 5 for me is that the free version can feel a little restrictive, and that gets annoying fast if you use translation regularly. It’s a very useful app, but it definitely nudges you toward paying. Also, for very short, casual translations, the difference between this and other free apps may not always feel big enough to justify that frustration. It is polished, but not “perfect.” Sometimes I also wish it felt a little more generous before hitting limits. Overall, I personally keep using it, especially because the core experience is strong and it feels like a serious app instead of a sloppy one. But I use it with the mindset of “great translator, slightly annoying free experience,” not “perfect no-complaints app.
DeepL is an essential tool in learning a language.. DeepL is helpful when a pair or group of words is used together. The single words in the dictionary do not always spell out the special nuance or slang or conversational meaning that the word cluster indicates to a native speaker. For example, in the previous sentence the phrase "spell out" might be noted as a phrasal verb meaning "to make explicit" but even with this translation, a gangster might say "do I have to spell it out for you?" but the definition "to make explicit" gives none of the implied threat of the words. DeepL lets the user experiment with sentences to understand usages, it tries to make sense of words even when used incorrectly, just as a language learner guesses at meaning. What a groundbreaking innovation you have brought to us! There's an intention that DeepL understands that other translators usually miss. An amazing tool!
It used be better.. The interface in the new update is not convenient, the selection of colors is very unpleasant to the eye, please fix the bug that after several uses the "Insert" button disappears. It's very inconvenient and I have to restart the app. But the translation history is very handy, I like how the app picks up and translates words. I really like that you added a "Copy" button so that you can immediately, without straining, copy the text and paste it in the desired place. I write through your translator. It's actually a very handy application.
Urgently needs email sign-up verification step. Satisfied with the quality of the service. But the sign-up process urgently needs a step to verify the given email address by sending a message requiring a response *before* activation of the new account. The current process has no protection against a user fat-fingering their address, especially on small phone screen. Since *all* support is tied to being able to access the account, it’s easy to create an unrecoverable DeepL account, with even more injury of a payment subscription is added to it.
Best Translator, Need Some Updates. DeepL is easily the best translator available on the market. My primary use is English <-> Japanese, and there are a few weird quirks that mean I can’t uninstall Google Translate just yet. 1. DeepL’s text-to-speech doesn’t use the speaker on iPhone, it uses the phone speaker, so it’s extremely hard to hear. Other competitors default to the loudspeaker, so Japanese folks in translating for don’t have to read everything. 2. No furigana/ romaji. For anyone who speaks English, Japanese Kanji is difficult or impossible to read, so if you need to actually say something out loud, you still have to use a competitor. 3. No offline translating. While AI translation is great, if I’m in an area with no signal and in some kind of emergency, I’m forced to use another app that doesn’t require a connection. It would great if DeepL had a less-accurate, offline mode as well as the online mode. Other than that DeepL is great and many Japanese people that I’ve used it with have praised it’s accuracy and how natural the Japanese sounds, though it does tend to choose the more formal options in all situations. Definitely a must have for any English speaker trying to navigate Japan without actually speaking the language yet.
The holy grail of online translators. Phenomenal. This translator surpasses Google Translate in precision and accuracy for Chinese <--> English translations. The translated sentences make sense too. For one sentence in a news article instead "when the voice is that of your baby's grandchild..." (what??) DeepL translated it as "when the voice is that of your child or grandchild..." One improvement would help make this app a lot more useful for users is allow someone to past a URL and get a translated page. This is what I usually use Google Translate for--to get a translation of a webpage. Great job!! You guys have reached the holy grail of AI translations!
Update broke Latin Alphabet Support. As the title says the latest update has completely broken latin alphabet support which is important for users trying to communicate with others when they cannot read the characters, for example Japanese. Even if you have a grasp of Hiragana and Katakana now you can no longer read the romaji for Kanji characters. It cuts of the latin response completely after a few lines. Even if you collapse the alternate word suggestions you still are cut off from seeing the full latin alphabet response. Please fix this. why do you keep changing the UI. You’re making things worse. Clearly this wasn’t tested properly.
Fantastic, but needs pinned languages. If you want to translate anything, this is what you should use. It’s really accurate and extremely helpful! My only complaint is that there needs to be a favorites option for languages. I use DeepL for translations in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese (Brazil) almost every day because those are the languages I speak/am learning. Occasionally I also translate with other languages too like German, Italian, Romanian, etc. and it’s annoying when my recently used gets flooded with languages I don’t use that often. I literally use this app like 50+ times a day on iPhone and MacOS, so if I could have my main languages favorited/pinned at the top, that would be SPECTACULAR.
Long-time user SO frustrated with updates. I run a tiny library in Mexico. I have relied on DeepL for several years now for our publications. Excellent translations, fast, but then… I first noticed that I could no longer save my translations. DeepL said I needed to upgrade in order to save unlimited translations. (No word on how many I could save on the free version.) I deleted a bunch of my saved translations and still could not save new translations. - Then, every single saved translation disappeared. No warning from Deepl. - I tried to learn about my free version but Deepl does not have a link to read up on it. I tried to upgrade, but there’s no link for that either. — I would feel very different if I was told that now I only had 15 messages that could be saved or told I had X amount of days to save my translations because they would all be deleted. But nothing. —— This isn’t about me. It’s about a tiny community who’s never had a library before, And I stupidly relied on this app to save important communications. I don’t know how or why this happened, but you guys can do better. ☹️
Awesome. Very useful and nuanced, allows you to edit word by word which is great. Very good at creating natural sounding sentences. The camera is alright but does not always work well when working with multiple blocks of text on a page. They tend to overlap each other in the translation. One feature I would like is sending screenshot to DeepL from the share menu. Currently when attempting to do so, the applet opens the default text translation.
Great for work and travel. This is perfect for when you are traveling and have a complex question beyond your food order or directions. While visiting Paris, people were able to completely understand my translations, and I was able to get around and get clarifications seamlessly. As for work, it is so easy to use. I pay for the pro, and I can directly upload documents and translate them, and they are 98% accurate. Soo much more efficient than trying to translate manually. And, when you cross-translate to verify, it maintains the text in English (unlike the popular app).
Great translations, plus add Safari extension. I'm really impressed with the quality of the translations. While other options sometimes translate texts into an almost incoherent mess, this app makes it almost feel like you're reading a text that was already written in English. Just one request, please add an extension for Safari that saves you the step of copying and pasting a wall of text to have it translated in the app. Microsoft's does a really good job with this, I hope you can offer it as well.
Missing some basics. The app can’t figure out that you’re using two different languages to translate back-and-forth. So you have to constantly tell it which language you want to go use. If you use the ‘swap arrows’ to swap between languages, it automatically deletes everything you typed in, so you have to type it again. These basic features should be a no-brainer for this app. If you want to translate something, you should be able to use the swap arrows and it should keep what you wrote and simply translate what you asked to translate. It should use the previous translation language as in default. So you don’t have to go through and select the language over and over again. Really basic stuff. It makes me wonder if the people who developed this app actually use it. Or they just have no sense of usability.
Very useful for J-E/E-J, but could be better. When I first started using DeepL, it impressed me as being superior to competing online translators like Google Translate and Microsoft Translate. Translations were less word-by-word and showed a greater level of colloquial tone. My first frustration is I have multiple iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) and you can’t stay logged into both on the same account. Logging in on one device will log you out of the other. Support says this is by design, but it’s incredibly frustrating if you use two iOS devices frequently. My second frustration when translating English to Japanese is that I haven’t found a way to get DeepL to give me furigana along with the kanji in the translation so I know how to say what I’ve just translated. If you’re primarily translating written documents, maybe that doesn’t matter, but I’m using DeepL for conversation assistance/language learning and that’s a big deal (Google Translate does this) My third frustration is that DeepL hasn’t seemed to have kept up with recent LLM advances. Current general purpose LLMs can translate vertically handwritten Japanese while DeepL can’t even recognize it as text. Yes, this might be outside DeepL’s primary focus, but it’s frustrating when you’re using DeepL as a Japanese traveler. In all, I originally loved DeepL and recommended it wholeheartedly over alternatives, but I don’t feel the same way today. Perhaps this is because I’m an individual end-user and DeepL is focusing on other use cases for business reasons.

Works but translates Japanese upside down??. It works but for some reason attempting to read a manga using the photo mode it translates to English upside down
Offline translation?. I wish this app can offer offline databases
Great language app!. I use this for Spanish studies. Simple and easy to use. I like that I can save translation for later study. Also the app gives alternative translations and suggested uses! Brilliant! 100% better than google translate.
UNUSABLE !. It used to be good, with very decent EU Portuguese… Then you became lazy and started to use google’s database with Brazilian Portuguese (very different). Now it simply doesn’t translate! Bafio in Portuguese it’s not Bafio in English!! It doesn’t find the transaction for “ogling” and does not translate “manjerico” correctly either !? It’s getting worse with each update! It doesn’t translate lots of EU Portuguese, it shows just the same text ‘translated’, as the text I type! What a disappointment! It used to be so good and now it’s closer to any other american translator, with so many inaccuracies!!!!! Wrong translations: I chosen this app, ‘cause it used to be the most accurate on EU Portuguese translations … However the last two updates, have brought this closer to Google Translate (terrible) translations! In other words lots of English > Portuguese translations are now closer to Brazilian which is very different to EU Portuguese! I also found it cannot even translate “abrunho”, neither “cadelinhas”, nor “amêijoa” 😩
THIS APP TRANSLATE SO ACCURATELY. I got nothing to say really but this app got so accurate translation, also for the hard language like Japanese.
Be very careful. I use to think this app was the bee’s knees to translate French and German but since I have learned the language, I realise how bad it is and how it can change the context of what you are writing. Be very careful using this app.
Excellent. I sorted through many paid apps This is both best and the easiest to use that I saw. Thanks developers. I’ve used it for a while now. And I find it really easy to operate.
Great App for new level of translation in simplicity.. Have been using this app for a while and found this to be a good experience in translation with good alternatives, and suggestions on the go. thanks for the great app.
App is good 👍. It would be nice to be able to view the history of recorded translations。
Very good. All good
Helpful but needs update. Please open the Australian entry for users please! It’s so helpful in language learning. Thank you!
Best translator. It is so exact and fast that i never have to correct the translation. Thank you!
Doesn't work. Blue line expands....and nothing happens
Love this app so much since i’m learning french!. Love this app since i’m learning French but i come from the Middle East, Arabic is a must! all Dialects as well..
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Brilliant app, but it isn’t currently working. Despite me ensuring proper internet connection the app says it can’t connect to the server. Have been unable to find contact details for support on the website
Great tool for learning Japanese. Great tool. The variation feature is useful. For Japanese it would be useful to include a romanji version along with the kanji/kana.
Clipboard. App is not bad, just can’t clear the clipboard once something has been added to it. The paste function remains on the app.
Age of Ai. It's 2025, yet your translation app supports not every language. In an AI era where handling all languages should be standard, this limitation in your App, is simply unacceptable. Translation App should unite people, but your app excludes users. This reflects a lack of effort by your team. You need to Fix this now. And I suggest Start with Persian language…
Request. That app is a very nice app and please add Persion language to it thank you so much !
Best of the Bests!☕️. Do believe u will better the best!
So good!. I went to France and everyone understood what I was saying🤗
Almost perfect translation of Japanese. Extensively used this platform for accurate translations between Japanese and English. Now this app is so handy to have! Would love to see starred favourites for quickly select different languages though! Definitely better than Google IMO
No Thai so no good. Mai Dee
No Longer Translates Japanese Correctly. I’ve used DeepL for a long time and found it to be much more useful and accurate compared to Google Translate. However over the past few days of using it I’ve noticed that it no longer works. Japanese now gets translated into romaji instead of English or it translates just a few words accurately and leaves the rest of the translation in kanji. This was my favourite translation app/website and the only one I actually trusted in terms of accuracy but it’s now completely useless a majority of the time.
Need to improve Chinese, Japanese and Korean translation.. Need to improve Chinese, Japanese and Korean translation. App should allow users to thumb up or thumb down translation and manually correct error and send back for review.
Good. Very useful
Litteraly perfect. This app is everything I can ask for in a translator app. Extremely accurate translation, especially in English-Japanese. Thanks a lot!
변역 복사할 때 뒤에 DeepL에서 복사된이라고 뜨는게 정말 불편하고 짜증납니다. 구글 번역이 더 편합니다. 다시는 안 씁니다
Just missing this !. Using this app for a while now. Translating from English, Spanish, French, Portuguese … I juts missed the NAME of the app in the front translator page when you open it !! I was translating something and I didn’t even remember the name of the app !! Can you please put the logo on it ?
Low connection. It won’t download the results soon low connection
Very good translator. I like this translator app but please add Vietnamese.
I am extremely impressed. Kudos to my favourite YouTube channel - Kevin’s English room for getting me to this app!!! This is an amazing app if you want to translate Japanese to English or vice versa. How did they get the algorithm right? It makes me so curious cause it does what google translation could’nt do 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Unable to connect. The app has ceased working recently on both my iPhone and iPad. I get the message “Sorry, our servers are not responding. Please make sure your device is connected to the internet.” All my other apps are functioning as normal and there is no problem with the internet connection. I have deleted and reinstalled the app but the problem remains. It is a shame because the DeepL translator was my favourite.
Latin for Japanese.. Please allow copy of the Latin for Japanese.
Can’t do without!. Recently spent three months in Denmark, with travel to both Sweden & Norway. Have found this App absolutely indispensable in aiding understanding of many signs and reading material in these countries. It’s contribution to daily needs, helped resolve many questions. I am looking forward to the time, when the iPhone camera can be focused on text, and readily translate it without need to type in each word, especially for Danish, currently a greater need. In my opinion, this App rates as A+++. Well done to its creators, and thank you ever so much 🙂
刪檔. App刪檔刪不掉
Good app but requires frequent logins. This is actually my favourite translator for French studies. The features I like the most are the camera translations, good for written texts or TV, and the rephrasing options for single words or full sentences. Lately however it asks for another login practically every day. Not satisfactory and annoying if you’re in a hurry for answers.
Quite Good. I have been using the free version to refine my translations between Arabic and English and I am amazed at how it understands context, old expressions, translations from The Quran and even poetry and prose.. not too bad at all. Google and Bing can start downscaling now, they are babies in front of this marvel of an app.
THIS APP WAS GOOD BEFORE. The camera is really slow when you want to detect the text but I recommend taking a photo before
Your windows 11 app is broken. Please fix the Windows 11 app. I installed the dot net but but it keeps saying install dot net…
Not enough languages. Where are Thai and other languages?
Seems good, but …. I’ve only tried this with English <-> Chinese, and it seems to translate well. What I need more than Chinese is Thai, which unfortunately the app doesn’t currently support. Both Chinese and Thai are tonal languages. Considering that Chinese is considered the most difficult language to learn (which I can attest to as I spent a long time learning it) I’m surprised that the app doesn’t support Thai. Developers: are there plans to support Thai?

Great App. Great App, however the dictionary is no longer on the app. What happened? Please restore this feature! It’s an imperative tool to figuring out which word to select from the alternative options. I would have given 5 stars but losing this feature is a huge loss for me.
Behaving again. For a couple days wouldn’t connect to net, translate or even let me select languages but is working perfectly now. No idea what happened
Terrible. The speaking into phone translation doesn’t work AT ALL
Hindi and Thai where?. Ive been using this for a very long time to help with projects in French class. However, it doesn’t have Hindi or Thai translations. Please add these languages! Otherwise this app is amazing!
No informal language feature. This app works strikingly well but I decided to rate it poorly as it just like the almighty Google translate lacks a relatively simple and obvious, evidently needed and desired feature - the ability to choose informal mode in languages like Russian, Spanish, German and French. The majority of us will not want the formal mode used as default and the only workaround is to try to trick the system - in every single sentence - by adding a word like ‘dude, bro’ or ‘yo yo yo’ which forces it to switch to informal. Then later erase those words. Pretty absurd that most translation apps do not after all these years have a simple fix that would benefit hundreds of thousands of people on a daily basis. Because of this alone I rarely use DeepL and would never consider getting a paid version and use ChatGPT instead.
Been a great help this year. This has been the best translator I’ve used this year. Been travelling South America for over a year now and it’s been the best Google and others are just not at this level yet in proper communication
Poor app. It is not clear where to select languages.
App freezing. The app freezes every time i dictate a phrase today (spanish to french) and i need to hard close it every time and launch it again
Best for language learning. It's just so much fun
Cant uninstall. App doesnt give you the ability to uninstall.
Everything is broken. Actually I like this app and it’s a really good translator, but lately after the update all is going wrong. When I’m trying to change the language to translate smth the language is not changing on my keyboard as it was before. And even when I’m starting to write sentences it’s glitching and the words are typing incorrectly as if I’m misspelling. So please fix it, I really love your app
So good. 100% Most accurate translator in the world
Lack of Persian support. Useless. doesn't support a lot of range of languages including Persian, Russian, etc… total waste of money. is a huge drawback to a supported translator language model.
Awesome app!. Best translation app I know. Regularly use it.
A. Most of the translated wrong
Update is very buggy. I have been using this translator for two years with no issues, but the last update is very buggy, for example I need almost every time reopen app to write text or change language on iPhone 12 because it freezes. Please bring back the last version
Гавно. Не может переводить слушая информацию! Также не может перевести целую страницу текста! Не вижу смысла в этом гавне
The worst company ever!!!. Absolutely poor services. Nowadays it’s much easier and free you can use chatgpt or any other AI tool
Can read colloquial words in local magazines, also data not linked to me in privacy policy :). I tried to read an article in a Japanese magazine and some words couldn’t be translated by Google Translate while DeepL can. I use Google office apps except its translator. DeepL is also well written when I message people overseas on Kickstarter campaigns. Looking forward to more languages covered. Well done!
was happy until. i was happy with this until i found the second mistake in a translation. trying to point it out to them deeply frustrated me both times. they expect you to sign up and have a subscription to do so. yes correct! they are forcing you to sign a subscription in order to tell them what they are doing wrong! the most recent was the german verb “schmatzen”. its translated with the word “smack”. the meaning is “making loud chewing noises”. but again, they would already know this if they didnt try to force me to subscribe in order to tell them.
Updated Review. Since my previous review, they have fixed the issue with the correct language for the speech. Back to being great app!
No Hindi language. No Hindi language or Gujarati language
Can't keep up with competitors. I used to be very satisfied. But now it doesn't translate text quickly enough, and the text limits are suffocating. I don't have such problems with competitors, so unfortunately I'm deleting it.
Amazing tool and respects privacy. This application works amazing. Translates so many languages. The most amazing thing. It is truly free and respects your privacy at the same time. This app does not collect any information on.
I started translating very poorly. This translator used to be excellent. Now it translates poorly and produces nonsense, worse than Google. Too bad, I liked him. But now his translations are nonsense. So it's time to say goodbye to this program
Excellent. La traduction tiens compte du contexte (assez souvent)
Seamless translation, bit glitchy account management. Software on multiple platforms works great, though i had initially some issues setting up my free trial, did get some tech support but website portal to report issues was itself glitched.
Needs a restore text function. I often compose text directly within the translator, and sometimes it’s easy to accidentally delete all of the text, and then I have to start again. Could you please include a way to either undo or restore prompt history? Thanks!
Does such a good job. I've been using DeepL off and on for a few years, and prior translators would often just completely reverse my meaning. It does a really good job, even with colloquialisms and informal speech. And I love that you can configure it to be the default iOS/iPadOS translation app. Couldn't be easier!
AMAZING. Everyone I know uses this. But there are some missing features, like translating from a photo or lively translating it. It’s definitely not lying about the part where it’s accurate. This is amazing.
New camera doesn’t work!. The new camera doesn’t work, bring back the half screen one!! The new camera function literally cannot read manga anymore, it can’t detect it AT ALL. I used to use this app all the time for manga and it worked perfectly now it can’t even read it. It says there’s NO TEXT on screen even thought there is! And the old one used to instantly upload both the original and the translation, this new one you have to click so many more times just to get the same information. HOW IS THIS AN UPDATE 😭😭 be fr
Great app!. Please include Thai. That’s a language that will be a true test of the AI translator.
Best translations of any app. I originally started using this app because no other app could effectively translate between Ukrainian and English. Since then, other apps have added support for Ukrainian, but this is still light years ahead of the rest in terms of translating correctly based on context and intent. It gives meaningful translations more like a real person would do, not just clunky near-literal translations that you then have to interpret. If it supports the language you want to translate, I can guarantee you it’s the best option available.
Passed French. I passed French class so I’m happy
Testing U:. Born in Gr, living abroad. Needed an app to refresh my mother tongue. Big apps certainly don’t have it. 5*4U:)
Please bring back the last instant camera!. A couple updates ago, the camera button revealed a mini window that allowed the camera to detect text. It focused easily, saw text quickly (in my use case, Japanese eBooks), and automatically inserted the text into the translate field with the translation completed. Since this update, the camera is now a really basic and subpar Google Translate camera clone. You have to try and take a snapshot, the camera never can focus anymore if the text is on a digital display, and even with Japanese selected as the source language, the snapshots only see English from my surrounding browser tabs and tries to detect that. It went from irreplaceably helpful to entirely unusable. Please please please bring that previous camera view back. The mini view with instant detect text and import focused perfectly and worked wonders. Now this sudden replacement can’t do anything.
Lazy & “racist” app, way inferior to Grok AI (xAI) & ChatGPT (OpenAI). This app can translate 30 languages, but excluding Vietnamese - one of the top 20 most spoken languages globally with about 100 million speakers (approx. 1 million Viet speakers in Europe: 250K Viet speakers in Germany - the country of origin of this app DeepL). I get why DeepL includes significantly fewer spoken languages that it considers more important, like Estonian (slightly more than 1 million speakers around the world, most of them in their own country, and about 7K living in Germany), or Latvian (about 1.7 million speakers worldwide, including 53K in Germany), or Slovenian (2.5 million speakers worldwide, including 50K in Germany), or Korean (81M worldwide, 50K in Germany). I completely understand, for so many objective and obvious reasons everyone understands. But come on, excluding a language in the top 20 with a kind of big population in Germany as well, in this age of AI that can translate literally any language? Fortunately, due to this stupid thing from DeepL, I discovered Grok AI developed by xAI of Elon Musk (with Grok 3.0 is now the smartest - super scary smart - the most powerful AI in the world), and ChatGPT developed by OpenAI of Sam Altman and also Elon Musk originally. These 2 top-of-the-top AI apps can translate almost any language in the world including Vietnamese and Chinese with an astonishing level of accuracy, exceeding 99.99-100% consistently every time I tried (even when I used slangs, purposely didn’t put tonal accents, intentionally wrote it wrong to the level that even myself or another native person couldn’t understand what I just wrote down - but these 2 apps, especially Grok AI understand everything exceptionally). Meanwhile, DeepL’s accuracy stands at around 85% when I tried it between English and Chinese (85% accuracy only achieved when I wrote Chinese grammatically correct - when I used slangs and intentionally wrote it wrong, then DeepL accuracy was down to 20-35%), surpassing Google Translate for sure, but can’t compare with Grok AI or ChatGPT at all. So, it’s evident that DeepL is lazy, sluggish, eccentric, and unwilling to innovate, resulting in your app lagging behind. Your golden age has passed. I rejoice knowing Grok AI and ChatGPT can help me translate for free. So, farewell and good luck!
Meh. I have quite a few objections regarding this app, some have already been mentioned (improper translations, no dictionary, alternative translations either not populating or incorrect) but I think one of my biggest issues is that the button to switch or reverse languages to translate is either missing or non functional. I’ve used DeepL many times in the past and when I have the translation provided was far better than Google Translate for example, however, all functions found on the Goolge Translate website also work in the Google Translate app. There is something to be said about proper functionality as well as proper translation. If DeepL can correct it’s shortcomings I would exclusively use this service but as it stands I will fall back onto Google Translate for functionality’s sake as well as my own frustrations using the DeepL app.
Fantastic translator superior to others. Have been using this translator since they launched it and in 2017. It has been my number one translator ever since. Extremely excited that it is finally an app as well! Go DeepL!!!
Great app. Please add Arabic. Excellent app with high accuracy. However it lacks Arabic translation. Hope developers consider adding it to the list of available languages.
Best Translation App out there but you can’t download for offline. this is the best translation app in the game. I love that you can find alternatives that sound more natural or closer to what you wanted to say. And I’m so glad that Catalina was added. But the fact that you can’t download language languages like Google Translate is a shame.
Good app but missing features. Love Deepl, I agree that it is usually better than the other translation software available. The app is easy to use but is missing the features from its website, you cannot see definitions or see other translation options which is the reason for the 3 star rating.
Steep decline in quality. Don’t bother.. I think whatever ai training model they are using has completely destroyed the app. Shockingly bad translations of simple phrases that it used to be able to handle. Basically unusable.
A powerful translator app. I have been using it to teach myself French. It is a great go to, better than a typical browser translator. Love the dictionary option as well as the ability to see other optional words within translated sentences. There are also benefits with a paid subscription but I have no need for those features yet.
Need phonetic transcription or romanizations. Would be nice if it can show how to pronounce the words rather than just showing its meaning.
No Translate in realtime. Was hoping for realtime translation. Not happy with app.
Empowering with what. How are empowering people when it won’t translate a simple sentence like hello how are you? I’m not looking for a text translator, I’m in need of a voice translator that translates in real time, which this app does not do. It’s worse then google translate, if that at all possible. At least they give you the courtesy to try it first before scamming you out of your money.
Almost perfect Japanese but…. This app has the best language translator app atm but sadly the Japanese ‘Honorific’ switch doesn’t work. Also some translation is still rough on the edges and I’ve noticed the casual translation is a bit off at times. Please improve the Japanese more! Thanks!
Quick and accurate 👍. I was just in Latin America for two weeks, this translator is fast and accurate. I recommend
Persian Language. You don't have Persian. This was strange to me, several important countries speak it, and it is one of the oldest languages in the world, with unique poets and writers who have become famous in this language.
Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. The best. DeepL makes my job so much easier. They give us every advantage when we pay the little up charge for what we pay they give us baskets of advantages saving time and aggravation. The first month was free but I’m going to keep it rolling. What a nice way to learn more languages and bring together the family of God here on Earth.
Love the App BUT. The recent update has an issue in the app. When i want to translate more than 2000 words the translated Result shown in the translated window doesn't expand downwards anymore and only shows the whole translation in a small window due to which i have to scroll down a-lot and i mean a-lot in a small window, which also affects checking the translation.
This app could be better. The speed of the words being translated and repeated in another language is too fast to comprehend completely. There should be a way to slow it down so that one can study exactly how each word or phrase is being pronounced. Even just googling translations they say it fast and slower. Also the translation gives alternative ways too say it in another language but it doesn’t explain why they are alternatives and it also doesn’t allow you to listen to the alternatives. I will be removing this app.
English to French needs much improvement. I use this app to communicate with my French girlfriend. It worked great for the first few months I have used it. Recently, when translating to French, it completely changes what I say which causes confusion and kills the fun mood of the conversation. Recently, each update seems to make the app more inaccurate to the point where I cannot trust the translation and have to use another app to double check each translation for accuracy.
Amazing App. love this app, helped me communicate with a Ukrainian who was looking for tickets to a show in Amsterdam, a really crazy experience because of the translation accuracy. Only problem is that there is no speaker mode to increase the volume of the translation; I had to constantly put the phone in her ear for her to hear my translation from english to ukrainian since we were in a crowded place.
Great translator, don’t like subscription model. I love the translator, but I wish the paid version wasn’t so expensive, and I wish it wasn’t a monthly subscription fee. I’d be willing to pay a 1-time fee, but I’m becoming fatigued by all the subscriptions I have. Everyone wants me to subscribe to their product or service. I would just rather buy it and be done.
Really great at 日本語, but couple of gotchas. Much better translations than Google, Bing, or other translators I’ve used f Gotchas: Can’t log on to two different devices simultaneously even if they’re both connected to the same Apple ID (so you can’t get the benefits of being a Pro user on both your iPhone and iPad at the same time. When you type in something to translate in Japanese, I wish it would show the romaji of what you typed (Google does this) because sometimes, in addition to translating, I’d just like to know how to say what I typed/photographed in Japanese (yes, you can play the audio and figure out the Romaji yourself, but that’s not so convenient in many places
Good, but missing something…. In the desktop version, you’re able to edit the translation to phrase your text differently. However, you can’t edit the given translation in the app. That’s the one thing I love about DeepL, other than the precise translations. I hope it gets added soon to the app!
Best Translator. I was becoming quite frustrated with translators until I found this app. It understands my horrible accent and translates. It’s great. I only wish I could slow the audible translation down so I can hear the correct pronunciation of words. It speaks way to fast and words run together. But thank you! This is great!
Superior Translations. DeepL is amazing in that it translates for phrases and intent, rather than word-by-word. This avoids really weird translations that sound stilted. If you are translating between Japanese and English, this is much better than any other free translators out there. I’m so glad the ios app is here, as I use it on pc religiously.
The best translation app BY FAR!. I’ve been using their website and MacOS app for a while. In fact, I had their website bookmarked on my phone’s Home Screen until they came out with the app. You literally cannot compare the accuracy and quality of the translations from DeepL. Highly recommended!
Don’t bother with any other translation app. Don’t bother with any other translation app. DeepL is more accurate than Google, provides different ways to say the same thing, saves the translations you want for future use, and more
Finally!. Thanks so much for making this a mobile app <3 We love you! Thanks for all your hard work in making this DeepL possible. A beautiful invention of mankind. EDIT: Please make the “to” translation text live text also so we can copy individual words :)
Sooo useful!. I must use this app like 100 times a day. It’s so simple and I find it to be extremely helpful when I am checking my own grammar and sentence structures. I also get to listen to how it is spoken and correct my pronunciation. I cannot recommend this highly enough, and I’ve already introduced the app to several family members.
Stopped working for me. It used to work ok, with many occasions of missed translation but lately it has completely stopped working for me. It shows a message of “sorry we couldn’t translate your text. (403)” and I’ve tried logging in and out of my account; deleting and re-downloading the app. None has worked. Web version works fine for me though.
Add camera mode. Can you please add camera mode so you can translate stuff you can’t type but can just translate through a camera, it would be very helpful because I’m playing a Japanese game and I NEED to translate it but I can’t type the text so Idk Japanese, so please add camera mode, but the app so far translates really nicely so 5 stars,
Good translation but a little inconvenient. It’s translation accuracy is undoubtable, but it can’t be utilized in daily needs. Still, This app don’t have photo translation function. I like it during the work, yet I have to download other translation apps for daily needs as well. This is a bit inconvenient. BUT, IT HAS GOOD TRANSLATION, which is the most important characteristic of a translation app. So, 4 stars.
Translations are decent but no transliteration/romanization feature. The translations are usually quite good, but the app lacks a feature that displays transliteration or romanization of non-Latin alphabet languages, this causes problems for people who aren’t proficient in reading those languages in comprehending the translation as they must copy and paste the translation into a different app to get the transliteration
It’s my favorite. the most accurate I’ve found so far. It’s a little clunky some, having to toggle back and forth between 2 languages, but I still like it better than all the big names and common ones, that I’ve used extensively for over a decade.
Using DeepL. It is very useful when trying to communicate with someone who doesn’t speak the language. You can talk into the microphone and it dictates you words into their language. You can listen to the translation and look up using the book icon to see the word(s) used in a sentence. It brings people together through language! I highly recommend!
Good translations but…. There should also be an option to play the audio slower, like a turtle mode so that not only can you translate with the app. For example if there is something that you wish to say or plan to say like at a restaurant. Then what you can do is play the audio translation in turtle mode, listen to how the translation is pronounced and simply speak it when ready
Bad for German.. Unfortunately the free version of the app is not useful for German. It will mostly chose the formal Sie form, which sounds ridiculous if you use it to help in written conversations with friends. Sometimes at random it will mix with the informal Du form, which can bring you in trouble using it for any work related conversations. It is usually possible to switch between these. This should really be improved or made more flexible for basic users who use it for German. Otherwise the app is great. But this is a big unfortunate minus.
To be able to synchronise with phone keyboard. App is very nice, very accurate with humour😉, but I would appreciate if it’s possible to synchronise with your phone keyboard to enable you translate on the same page without having to go back and forth from application to another. Thank you 😊
A better alternative to Google. I’ve been using a web version for the past 3 months. I can say that Deepl catches and translates the nuance of the language consistently better than google. A better alternative to Google, the company that consistently moves in the opposite direction of its original ethos of “do no evil”? Heck yeah, Deepl has been my go to translator app the past month.
An Absolute Must-Have. My primary language is English but my wife’s side of the family speaks Spanish, so what a blessing to have this app which almost 100% of the time perfectly translates what I give it into Spanish or the other way around if there is some word or a phrase I don’t quite understand. My highest recommendation and great job DeepL!
Best translations. It’s a really great app and a great use of AI. The only request I have would be for a quick copy button for both the initial language and the target language. I’m making Anki cards from all my translations (like I’m sure many other people) so it would make the process a lot smoother. Great job!
Difficult. Just downloaded the DeepL for iOS free version onto my iPhone 8 and it doesn’t seem to have the functionality shown at the website (no drop down list for changing language, etc.). Do I actually have to create an account to get all the features? I set for Portuguese to English, but can’t change it to the reverse. Does only Pro work? I chose DeepL because it has European Portuguese which isn’t available on Google or other translation apps, but it’s VERY disappointing.
Was great until latest update. Latest update made the app significantly worse to use. I used this when traveling to quickly have the camera translate menus, signs, etc. in place. You used to be able to keep the camera open and see the translation pop up live and what words were captured. Now you have to take a picture, that you can't even zoom in with or focus! So I have no idea if it even translated what I wanted! Going back to google translate I guess
This App Is A Wonderful Bridge. Using this app primarily for Spanish and German, I have found it to be better than most other translation services at finding correct connotations and meanings in a way that has helped me firm relationships with people that do not speak my native tongue. I am so grateful for it, and highly encourage others to use it.
Free translator user feedback. DeepL limits user feedback to paid subscriptions; best I can do is comment here. Minor bugs: (1) doesn’t recognize the difference in English between “I love you” and “I am in love with you.” (2) does not find the words in French to distinguish between “I ask,” and “I demand.”
Love this app. You can scan whole document pages and get accurate, fast, translations. I’m using it to improve language skills— going back and forth between reading pages in their own language and reviewing with Deep L photo-scanned translations. And it’s working. Really impressed and happy with this app.
Better than Google?. I’m using it mostly for English-Spanish and English-French, but I really like this app. It’s sometimes a bit slow but the translations appear very accurate and I really like the alternate translations, plus the ability to pull it up via share… is awesome.
great! one thing though…. this app is WONDERFUL. it helps me with my pronunciation a LOT. there is only one thing. with the languages that don’t use the latin alphabet (ex. korean, russian, japanese) could you include something below that romanizes them? like for japanese, hello - konnichiwa which is what こんにちわ sounds like. otherwise, an amazing app!!
Most accurate. I believe this is the most accurate translator I have encountered in the iOS universe. I can say this, because in two languages where I am not 100% in the grammar, but use DeepL, it is spot on, since a understand the languages nearly like a native speaker.
So much better than Google Translate. First off, I’m really surprised that this app only has 99 reviews. It’s such a fantastic app. When I was living in Germany, everyone used deepl on their desktop instead of any other translator. I have never had a native German speaker correct anything I ever said that I had translated with this, but that has happened to me when using Google Translate.
Doesn’t have the one feature that makes the website so good. What makes the website version of DeepL so good is that when you’re translating a single word it gives you all the possible translations of that word, for example maybe in English one word is used as a noun, adjective, and verb, but in another language you would use three different words for those different parts of speech. On the website it tells you all of that info, with lots of detail, but unless I’m missing something the app just simply doesn’t have that functionality at all.
Excellence. I had been using MS translator for years. Then they upgraded the app and it is shockingly bad. Finally I found this app and put it through several tests including some idiomatic responses and it worked great. I can’t believe it is free. I would pay for it. Thanks to all the development team for making such a useful product. All the best. And I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS APP.
Needs a way to correct bad translations. For one thing it frequently gets individually translated words wrong, at least for latinoamerican Spanish. Bucket is cubeta not cubo. For another... If you want to set yourself apart from Google translate, and even Apple’s translator you’re going to have to make the distinction between Spain Spanish and Latino Spanish or else it will always be wrong. It's two very distinctly different dialects and might as well be different languages. Just as nearly all subtitles and dubs do on Disney+ and HBO are differentiated, so should translate apps.
1000% better than google translate. The only thing that would make it better is if you could use voice or pictures to translate like google does. DeepL would do those features better hands down! Kiitos/merci, DeepL! Update: they do have it! I just noticed it! DeepL slays!
Better than google translate. I find this more useful than Google translate, because it gives more options but for entering data (like speaking in both English and the foreign language) and because it gives optional translations. It would be much better though if it linked to additional grammatical information about the word it finds,Such as gender, plurals, or conjugations
Weird Quirk. I’m learning Italian and often try to think of how to say something and then check it for accuracy rather than using it to translate English into Italian. I was curious if this would be better than Google Translate but there’s this teeny little delay between pressing ‘enter’ and getting the translation and it bizarrely gives the impression that the app is guessing. I can’t explain it, it’s psychological. It would be great if that was a little quicker, smoother.
Cannot insert scanned text with one hand.. The translation is quite good. But if you want to scan text with the camera and are holding the camera with one hand to do so, and the other is holding a piece of paper to scan, then the insert text button at the bottom of the screen cannot be reached. So the feature is almost unusable in this common scenario . It’s a ux problem.
WARNING: This will make you lazy!. Gone are the days of the gibberish translations. As a court interpreter in Italian, I am amazed at how this translator picks up on the SENSE of the translation. And where it doesn’t get it quite perfectly, you have the option to click on a word or phrase to tune it up, and it almost always offers the option that does fit perfectly. Very well done! But it WILL make you lazy….
Love it, but needs changes. First thing I have it up to date to the latest one unfortunately I do not like how the speaker sounds. I wish there was more options and there was a male option and a woman option different languages, different speaker, and it sounds more human instead of robot, other than that I got no complaints.
Best translator. I just need one more feature. I am currently on the free version but planning to upgrade soon. I wish there was feature for making corrections if I typed with the wrong grammar for example, because Google translate does it also.
The best translation app. So much better than Google! Much higher quality translations and the improved UX is also appreciated. I love how it has common alternative translations. Only weird thing is that the website sometimes has more translations than the app?
Wish it could write the translation while its listening. Love the app but I need to have it keep going with the translation. This one just listens, then you have to stop recording to see what was said. I need to have it listen AND show me what’s just been said at the same time, because I’m using it to translate what patients say to the doctor in Spanish (and I’m a student listening). So I kind of need a transcriber
Incorrect Translations. Only Subscribers Can Contact Support. With this latest update the ‘Detect Language’ function and with it, German, are not working. It just keeps ‘detecting’ I’m writing in some weird English dialect. However I cannot even TELL them the problem. As support is only for PAID customers. Finding this out is gross. I will no longer support or recommend (in fact—recommend AGAINST it) to my friends. Because this makes translation useless.
Best translation App. I am extremely impressed with this application. It is the most accurate one I have ever used, providing precise results consistently. Besides, its user-friendly interface enhances the overall experience, making it intuitive and easy to navigate. Excellent job!
Excellent app, just one suggestion for a future update. I’ve been thinking, if the users of this app were able to write certain words and/or sentences with say an Apple Pencil then they won’t need to type everything all the time with a keyboard all the time
