Used to be good. I’ve been playing this game since October of 2021 and it was amazing. Fun game mechanics and social aspect to make friends and have fair fights with enemy factions. However as I’ve watched this game evolve it has turned into a f2p players worst nightmare. The game is heavily influenced on pay to win. Other players will spend $100s-$1000s getting the best gear and best commanders possible to where it is impossible for even intermediate spenders to keep up with. The developers have also increased the difficulty for taking tiles making it even harder to keep up with everyone else unless you have spent a decent amount. It would be cool if they could have free to play servers and spending servers like RuneScape or something to balance out the players that go hard on spending. Even if a ranking system was added to make the battles more fair, that would be cool too. In its current state the game is completely unbalanced and the fights aren’t fun anymore unless you’re decked out in the best gear money can buy. It saddens me that most likely I’m going to quit playing due to this.

Board game style = bored gamer within one hour. Ok, so I gave it a good hour from 9-10 last night. Lore, art design, music, all good for LOTR… but what is this game? I picked the ring wraith faction. The game makes it clear that we are all amassing large armies to hunt the one ring, just like the story. Fine. I find myself acquiring really cool orc troops, I have 3 recruited commanders that are cool. It’s a land acquisition game though. It’s like, March here, acquire land for future war, use resources to build up home base… but where is the real combat? Oh, one hour in, I am finally marching in to a square where an actual physical army is… the battle I’ve been waiting for! … not really. You watch these cheesy animations play out in front of you and as far as I can tell, you aren’t doing anything to affect the outcome. It’s all about deploying an army that has balanced forces but man… it was PRETTY boring when it came to me actually feeling like I’m at the helm of a fearsome orc/Uruk-hai army that is trying to dominate the landscape. I like board games, but I play board games with dice and other tangibles that make the experience more enriching and random at times. This game is all about … “nice army… want that square of land? It’s a level 10… go for it.. nice.. you got the land… you want the next piece of land? It’s a level 15 piece of land… too hard… wait 30 minutes

Wonderfully confusing. I have really enjoyed playing this game and learning more about LOTR (i haven’t watched all the movies but bare with me.) I enjoy the fact that i can grow pretty fast without spending a single dime but how i grow is still very confusing. They give you a tutorial as you pass stages not as you do them so you really have to guess about whatever or not yours upgrading the right things. I play Kings Choice and in every regular feature of the game they have a (? )you can click on to give you a basic tutorial and guide for what it is you’re on and doing. LOTR War has okay tutorials but i really hope they add something like this to where you can go and read over what everything does and how it affects your growth. Overall it’s a wonderful game and maybe i just don’t pick up fast but i definitely recommend it!

Gameplay is fun, honestly, but updates have been aggravating. ***Dec 29:*** UPDATE: After week off I retried downloading and something was patched that allowed me to log in again. Apparently many players had been booted off as well. The irony was that the update which caused all this was the “yule” holiday expansion. The changes to gameplay that are made in these frequent updates don’t seem to outweigh what is lost by the headache they’ve cost. Much rather would have not lost days worth of progress, but oh well. Time to play catch up with the other teams. ***Dec 22nd:*** “I was one of the most active and powerful players in my faction, logged on with an update and now I can’t even open the game. Played for weeks, but apparently for no reason because none of it matters now. What a load of garbage. If this changes I guess I’ll edit my review, but I’m still missing out right now on critical siege plans we had. I’ve even tried un-installing the app and re-downloading. Good thing I never paid for anything yet, there will be lots of tempting chances to pay in the game, but DONT GIVE THEM ANY MONEY! Turns out you could just lose the ability to even open the app like me.”

Good to Bad to worse. Good: When I first played this game a few years ago. I had a blast playing the first season. It was very confusing, but once I got the hang of it, it was a lot of fun. Conquering the map of middle earth with your favorite characters from Lord of the Rings while making fun conversations on world chat, it was great! Bad: That is, until you realize that the further you go on, the greater the gap becomes between those who pour insane amounts of money into the game, and those who just want to have fun. Second season is a waste of time if you are free to play. I’ve played the game for months and only gotten 1 Gold commander. And my main commander never got past Tier 7. Worse: They just released Version 2 of the game. And oh man is it bad. Super laggy. The items don’t make any sense. It makes it infinitely harder for players to scale their commander and organize their units. It’s just a mess. I think I’m not alone in thinking this might be the end of the game. And good riddance if so. That’s where greed gets you.

Toxic Environment. The game is only fun if you are a massive player who spend thousands of dollars to play. If you don’t want to spend thousands of dollars, don’t bother. Because not only will you be run over by bigger players, you’ll also have to deal with admins who don’t take complaints about toxic behavior in gamechat seriously. And the whales make all the decisions in the factions and fellowships. There is no cooperation. And so much bullying. My husband tried to see if he could help coordinate an attack at a keep and he’s was told he didn’t matter because he was nobody and to shut up. When he tried to say that he should still be able to play even as a smaller player, he was told to kill himself and that the world would be a better place if he did. Then when he stopped talking in chat, they started bragging that they might have gotten him to actually do it and they were glad. So my husband reported the players, sent in screenshots, and was told that those players telling him to kill himself was “not against community guidelines.” Oh, and also, don’t be surprised if you translate some of the other players languages and they are using a ton of racist, sexist, and homophobic slurs. The game only stops use of those words if you are writing in English but allows it in every other language. Not worth it.

4 Stars. It is a TEAM gang. If you don’t want to be active everyday, actually listen to your fellowship leaders, you won’t get far. You can play alone but those players never really last long because you are missing about 85% of the game. The servers are neat, the season starts off everyone is nice and having fun and laughing, but as the season progresses the game chat definitely gets interesting. Graphics are epic. Please stop holding mobile games at the critique level of console games, if you want 4k go play on a console or pc. On the money side of things, they have a season pass, it’s affordable, I would suggest it. If you don’t want that, they also have a 30 day token pass. They also have keep your money and still progress. You CAN NOT buy ability points, so everyone is waiting for a 20-30 hour refill just like you. Fellowships have to move as a collective, so it doesn’t matter if Timmy, Wanda, and Cosmo spent their tax money, if the rest of their 97 members didn’t. To The Developers, We appreciate you. I’m only writing a 4 because on my 30 day token pass, I went to collect twice and it said I collected but my tokens never appeared.

Super fun but…. I preregistered for this game and absolutely loved it at the beginning. But have enjoyed it less and less as it goes on. The game is played in “seasons” which is good because of you loose one season you can still make friends and try again in the next season. However seasons are all but decided on day 1. The factions that start strong attract more players and then run away with it. The gap between the strongest faction on a server and the second strongest is usually huge. They need to make some kind of cap to keep factions closers in size to keep it competitive and fun. It’s all about teamwork and I love that aspect of this game. Having to work together to take big objectives and wage a war on multiple fronts is awesome. Again though a big BUT you’re not really incentivized to keep playing once it’s obvious who is going to win if your not on the strongest faction before Team switching closes. All you can do is annoy the winning faction and maybe slow them down but winning from behind is next to impossible with the current set up. Graphics are great user interface is good the devs seem to listen to the community and make good changes… Over all I really like the game which is why it’s more disappointing that I doubt I’ll keep playing after season 2 ends.

Deleting before I even start. Downloaded this game thinking “Wow! A LOTR game I’ve never played before? Graphics looked amazing and I enjoy base/unit building - what could possibly go wrong?” Get to factions screen and oh boy, now I’ve got to choose a faction which will affect my entire path. Start googling which factions are the best and slowly start to realize this isn’t actually a single player I can just enjoy for what it is, but rather just another toxic pay-to-win co-op game where the top tier/pay2play teams obsessively play 24/7 and decimate everyone else and it’s no fun for 90% of the rest of us who just want to casually f2p once in a while. “Mandtory” events, battles, team stuff I don’t care about or I will get “kicked” etc. Well let me tell you, I have played these type of team co-op games before and I’m out before I even start. Should have just made a nice single player strategy game for LOTR fans but no they had to make it a cash grab. Nope. Bye. Deleting.

Amazing game. Game over all is well set up real Time style type game super amazing game love how it changes every season and new people and things get added each season keeps it fresh keeps the game alive good job on devs. Over all one of the best games I played and there invested in the player. It is a pay to win game and you really need luck to pull something good. I think that needs to be fixed, but time of a pandemic everyone is trying to get money like there is no tomorrow. Only improvement is keep the servers the same the game map is not big enough for mashing servers together, reason I stopped playing as of today is no room for growth then it gets internal fighting to happen because people are constantly betraying for land which bred fighting in the ranks because there was no land, I advise keeping the servers as they are and not merge them. Trust me there is no need to bring in new blood to make it interesting people are free to choose what they want to support which keeps that server active and fun. Plus there was room for everyone to grow! I say fix that and the game will be a top one game for along time.

Love the game, but…. I’ve been playing this game for a few months now. Following up with updates, content creators, the discord, and even doing my own research with fellowship mates and friends. I love the game. If you’re looking for a decent war game that requires strong communications and teamwork, with a play style similar to risk but with more interaction then this is the game you should try. Now my only complaint would be how it is advertised to be non pay to win. That is unfortunately a blatant lie. I am not against paying to unlock extra items and I enjoy the season pass rewards. But there is a clear difference in what a Free to Play player is capable of and what someone who spends hundreds (or in the case of our server thousands) on mathoms is capable of. Respect 10 equipment is nearly impossible to get for free to play players let alone upgrade them but you added it as a major feature in season 2 and beyond. All I’m saying is I would love to see some deserved respect and support of your free to play or low spender players. Stop catering towards those who spend massive amounts to gain fully upgraded equipment with the best stats and abilities for multiple commanders. I hope you see this and genuinely consider my input as I’ve seen already some decent response to the community and additions like the new red book challenges. TLDR: Awesome, Risk-like multiplayer, war strategy game that is outfitted in LOTR theme. Needs to balance Free to Play and Pay to Win.

Don’t play unless you have $$$. I have put hundreds of hours into this game over that last 4 months. It has been fun but the developers have made this game 100% pay to win. Everything is based around unlocking and rank up commanders. U get one free chest a day with a super small chance to unlock a commander or a gift that when combined with a total of 30 super rare gifts can unlock a commander. Once it’s unlocked you then have to rank them up to be competitive. And if that’s not enough there is equipment that has random stats and rarities that you also have to get lucky to get out of chests. Before the developers got greedy you could dismantle equipment and trade for something you wanted but they removed that function so they could make more money. I enjoyed the first season where everyone was almost on a leveled playing field. Season 2 is a joke, those who spend the most money win. Not to mention the racism and offense chat that is not moderated. I do not recommend anyone plays this game in its current state.

Phenomenal game. Highly recommend!. This game is super fun! So far, I’ve been playing non stop for 2 weeks. Easy game to play in between tasks at work or around the house. For us long time LOTR fans, this game is incredible for a mobile game. I have a few recommendations for developers. - it would be really fun to have a ‘grand exchange’ where we can trade items with other players across the server (much like RuneScape) - would be sweet if we could send resources (wood, stone, grain etc. To other members of our fellowship/faction) - I would like clarification as to whether mobs have special (rare drops) or not. This would increase incentive and exponentially increase the fun factor. -have no idea what a craftsman’s contract does… still, as there is no description. Just a side note. I feel that the pay to play features imbalance the game just a tad bit as players have access to so much more (gems, mathom box etc. Though I understand it’s importance. Thanks! Will provide more feedback as I continue my conquest for middle earth! Update: game still fun. -NEED REAL TIME (in-game) language translator; it is a headache to go back and forth translating language with every player. Amazing that we are all from around the world but it would be helpful to have this tool in game.

This game is a scam. Be wary.. Before you download this game, be aware that this game is a p2w that neither values the players time nor the money they spend in a game. Most of the time you will not get anything from the packs you buy with ridiculously low drop rates and even if you do get a certain piece of equipment, odds are that it will not have the exclusive stats that are needed. The people who have the builds with the right stats will steamroll everyone who does not have the exact counter. The devs of this game do not reward gameplay and time so if you do not spend any money, or spend little money, you will just be reduced to fodder and entertainment for the whales. Even if you do spend money, you will not get the items they sell you. It is an outright scam. There is no balance in the game and if you work so hard and put so much time and resources into the game to build a leader with a specific troop composition, there is no guarantee that it will be relevant the next season as the devs keep soft nerfing the viable builds and even implementing unannounced hard nerfs such as they did with the witch king. If you value your time and money you should steer away from this excuse of a game designed to scam as much money out of you as they can. I would rate it zero out of five stars if I could. This game is predatory and should be illegal and taken off the App Store.

DO NOT PLAY. At first the game was fun and amazing they then entice you to spend money for little things here and there and now have completely changed the game. Essentially all them money that the players have paid to get specific items was useless, because nothing is the same now. They have pulled the old bait and switch, having people spend for one thing and now completely changed everything that you spent money on. Then they ask the community for feedback to try and save face and COMPLETELY IGNORE the feed back they get. It’s become very clear the DEVS of the game care nothing about what the community and players think and are going to do whatever they want anyways. If you decide to give the game a try you will have very few players to play with as a large mass of players are quitting and deleting the game biased off of the complete lack of understanding and caring from the devs. I know of at least 300 people who have quit already and the number is only going to rise. Unfortunately when / of the devs ever actually decide to listen to the players and community it will be to late because most of not all will or have quit and won’t come back.

Devs… why?. I myself am a video game dev. I have helped in many projects and have created both large and small titles. And this dev teem committed the capital sin. They got to greedy. I played this game from close to the start, and after hitting a point in my life where work became to busy, I took a break. After about a year, I decided to hop back in. I was mostly a free to play player and spent many hours making friends, enemies, and grinding my commanders (Grima/Lurtz for the win). As soon as I redownloaded and looked at the game, the first thing I noticed was that I had only about 25% of my equipment and my commanders were all way lower of a rank than I previously left them. The devs decided in the 2.0 update that they could monetize/capitalize on players being put to a lower rank so they would have to spend money In order to get back to where they were. Take this as a warning all new players, if they did it once they’ll do it again. I’d stay away from this game, and this is coming from a long long time lord of the rings fan and game developer. Good luck to all those still playing the game, but I think we can all agree that the removal of sub skills ruined this game, as well as the devs practically deleting 50-75% of our progress

Unbalanced. The game is a load of fun at the end of a season, but the balance in factions is to great for the orc side to win if the other players want to make a light and evil. I believe their should be no side I believe anyone should be able to team with one another evil or not because their should be no sides only war. I also believe their should be a cap on how many can join one faction because time and time again you just see the loth wining because everyone and their mom joins them making the game less of a good experience for any other factions because of it then it just comes down to them bullying the factions the want to be evil witch in cannon is correct but it shouldn’t be that way in the game you all want power it’s not destroy the ring it’s take it and use it for your own so their shouldn’t be a good and evil

Pay2win. Everyone knows you need money to improve the game but even a blind person could see how greedy you’ve become in the beginning it was bad itself but you continue to push the same generic way to play like every other mobile game devs do and that’s not a good thing if you think it might be, nevertheless I doubt you care as long you see the numbers go up but giving way to a more authentic and progressive way to play will bring it more committed people rather than those who blow money when your becoming like every other mobile strategy game, you should only push cosmetic type items and things that don’t improve your power or give you great generals and armies with money but instead of like the appearance and looks but I already know this won’t be taken into consideration nevertheless even read but this mine and majority of the peoples opinion even those who do spend money but doesn’t dump it into your pockets

Headed in the right direction. This game is headed in the right direction, in the current state it is I still enjoy it a decent amount as the fighting, expanding, and characters make it interesting enough. However there are a few things that need to be changed to really get this game going. 1) the screen needs to have less buttons. It took me a while to figure out where everything is because there are so many different buttons to press, this needs some streamlining in the sense of certain things being combined based on commonalities, or certain aspects just need to be gotten rid of. 2) the fighting. I want to watch the battle ‘live’, like while it is happening but I can only watch the replay in the inbox so I already know what’s about to happen so it takes away from the suspense and interest. Not only this but the characters that are fighting need to be refined; the animations done make it feel too rigid and unnatural. The fighting is definitely something that will make or break for many players so future updates really need to make it more interesting and really feel like a battle otherwise this game will most likely nose dive. Overall though it is a pretty solid game that I enjoy and recommend for some, but not all.

Don’t get involved with this train wreck. I’ve been playing this game since it started, 2 years ago. I have 2 years worth of investment, which like many others, totals in the thousands of dollars. The new 2.0 version is essentially just Netease stealing from their customers. I strongly urge anyone considering this game to keep moving and find a game with more reputable devs. My two years of carefully cultivating my equipment through very expensive, low percentage drops is all gone now. They took all of the equipment in the game and added a gate keeping effect to it that will now require a massive cash investment from the players to simply get back to where they were. It’s exhausting and blatantly predatory. The 2.0 version of the game does not improve any aspects of the game, but they certainly make them much more expensive. Starting this game as a new player would be nuts. Short of immediately investing about $2k after downloading it, a new player will never be competitive in this game, and it’s hemmoraging older players now.

2.0 update. I have played this game for 2 years. It was always a very fun time, i didn't spend much and enjoyed that i could still contribute by cleaning enemy land and Destroying forts. I was able to hold my own in epic fights that could last hours. With the new update its all changed. I am still able to fight somewhat well currently and hold my own, i understand the new fighting system and it makes sense. But now i have to add 4 commander's into one army. That used to be 4 separate armies i could send out to different places and do different task. Now they are all stuck together and all lose stamina when you move. That means i can be in only one place doing one task at a time, not to mention the movement speed is now slower. I had to cobbke togheter 4 new commanders that are worthless because i never invested in them much to be able to do one additional task a day. I have no idea how i am supposed to farm land or level up my commanders now. Building roads will be a nightmare. Breaking control points is going to be a nightmare. It will take 4 times as long to do anything. This update really has been unenjoyable so far and makes the contribution of anyone who cant fight as well much less. For now i am leaving 1 star until these issues are addressed, will update if they are

Buyer Beware. I’m going to try and keep it real here. And as short as possible so I won’t go into specifics but trust me there are many. The first 2 years of this game have been pretty amazing. Graphics, gameplay, general customization/skill building, team building mechanics and general support more often than not has also been pretty good. Not all game modes (campaigns) were great. We would have liked to see a bit more variety. And feedback was often slow to be implemented. But we did see meaningful improvements over these 2 years and the net net is more good than harm. HOWEVER; they just announced they’re basically deleting the original game and replacing it with something entirely different. Somewhere between 50% and 80% of the things that I spent money for on this game will now be changed. I’ll let all the readers decide for themselves what the implications of that are. I feel sad and betrayed. I’ll keep playing to see what happens but probably done spending. Caveat Emptor, I suppose.

Devs messed it up…. This is a great game if the devs can keep their hands off of it. They just did a maintenance break. For some reason they think the whole world celebrates Christmas and put a Christmas theme in it. I don’t mind that but it locked my app up and now I can’t get back into the game. I tried deleting it and reinstalling but it is still locked up. All I get is a spinning circle on the load screen. Please fix the bug and stop with these crazy theme updates. Update: I’m very frustrated with this game. It has an excellent basis but the devs are crazy. They actually force everyone to take a week long break between seasons then reset all commanders and castles back to lvl 1. This is insane. You spend money to get your commanders to lvl 50 then they erase your progress returning you to lvl 1. Lol I play King of Avalon, Guns of Glory, State of Survival and The Walking Dead. If the devs reset the heroes/commanders and castles in those games every season they would lose all of their customers!!! As I write this we are in another week long down time that the devs call Bag End….unbelievable. I’ll probably quit the game…even though I love the actual game play…

Unbalanced with no fix in sight. I’ve played since season 1, and after the absolute disaster of s4, I think I’m done. Aside from the troop and primarily commander strength imbalance that leans toward good, the numerical balance of players for the good factions is so bad that out of 40+ servers, evil won 2. Every time new commanders get released, good gets some decent to great commander, and evil gets a mediocre to unplayable one. To this date the initial roster is better than any new ones, and they’ve been nerfed so many times because a specific build by a whale did well. Meanwhile good can stomp with average players and that’s somehow fair. Good gets overbuffed, evil gets overnerfed. Any attempts at helping evil were so half hearted or far too late that it didn’t do anything. One of those measures, the AI assistance, actually helped good players more. The imbalance was already there in s1, and it’s just gotten worse over time. I like the game. It can be fun at times, the LotR theme is really cool and fun, and they clearly know their lore. But it feels like I’m just punished for playing evil, and I’m just finding it hard to justify continuing to spend money and time on a game I’m just not enjoying anymore. I’d like to keep playing, but I’m just tired of not even being allowed to compete because good outnumbers us 5+ to 1.

2.0 Update Ruined it. I’ve played this game for 2 years and I enjoyed the game it *used* to be. The community aspect of the game is what truly kept me coming back. The battles were fun and accessible, but now the newest “update” they’ve given (2.0) has turned this into a completely different game. One of the biggest criticisms I have is that this development team needs to hire an entire PR department to do any communication of any sort in the future. The past 2 years has been a series of updates and small changes with limited information that happens to be hidden in unintended riddles and miscommunications. The communication to the player base is absolutely horrendous - and now we get this flop of an update that changes the entire game… and surprise - we get more cryptic explanations of what is going on. It’s frustrating. I won’t even get into how they’ve essentially stolen the money that players invested over the years with this new update. It’s unfortunately become untenable for me to continue to support this game.

Anti PBE overhaul. Big time changes are happening to this game and it will completely change gameplay. But my gripe here is about the people who’ve spent a small fortune,10k plus USD, that will lose all everything they’ve spent money on. Personally Ive only spent a couple hundred. But I will quit the game in solidarity with my friends across the world who will be wronged. This game is a haven for a lot of people and a way for people of many cultures to connect with one another and leave our real work differences aside. Something I believe Tolkien would’ve been in awe to have seen the effect his world has made so many decades later. Dear developers if you read this, please consider the people and fans of this fantasy world, and not just your pockets.

The Lord of the Rings:Review. This game is really fun and interesting. Unlike some games there is a story. On top of that, there’s a scene from the actual book! I have not been in this game for long and it is already very entertaining. Unfortunately, there are some problems. Soldiers and commanders are very slow and you cannot do anything to make them faster. But I thank you for adding a boost to getting back. Also when I joined a warband, the leader approved my request but I was unable to reply after he said we could speak and I felt bad about it like I just left him hanging. That was upsetting and I wish I could have been able to reply. Like all games this one has problems, but ever since I installed it in my opinion it was a big success. I hope this game becomes more successful in the future. Best of luck!

Good game but……. Okay so I like the strategy in the game but when I first started first started playing I was a good guy fraction but they were brutal and toxic when ever I tried to help they say “your to weak get stronger your a spy”. Yeah that’s what they say then in the second season I went to Mordor and they were nicer less toxic but the top warband leaders never listen to my ideas WHEN GONDOR TRAPPED US I SAID “let’s go the Rohin they seam pretty weak and another group already attacking them so let’s help them”. But they said “no we don’t want to start another war”. And I said again “GONDOR HAS US TRAPPED AND THEY CAN DO A FULL OUT INVASION ON US”. And they said “okay still let’s not”. At this point I was facepalming myself. Then I left that group and joined a different one they were smarter but it was not really fun that much because they told me what to do or else I get pretty well kicked from the group and I could not war plan only they could at some times so I just deleted the game it was fun but players are mean and strict in that game and when ever you report someone nothing happens to them. Maybe you should have a staff member or two in each faction and they can check up on each warband to make sure players were being nice to each other and letting them join in and help attack and make it fair to all. And I deleted the game

Pay to win. This game is a huge waste of time. Sure it was cool in the beginning(I preordered it before it came out) but several servers later(maybe 7) I have to say you can not win unless you are willing to pay a lot of money. There is a little strategy involved but once you are out of stamina the pay to win-whales move in and wipe you out completely. I am a die-hard LOTR fan but I am done with this game. The world chat is toxic and racist and the developers never respond to reports or remove offensive chats and names. I have even seen some glitches that have still not been resolved where players can move across river into another territory with out needing a friendly tile on the other side. Player make fake accounts to fill up other factions and keep their enemies small in number. Again developers do not remove inactive players. I had high expectations for this game and was fun in the beginning but there is no new content for each new season it just repeats season 1 all over again. I want to like this game, I really do, but no matter how much time or effort you put into this game you will never be able to compete with pay to win players.

5 stars before 2.0….negative 10 stars post….. The absolute fun of this game for the past 3 plus years has all been wiped away in the matter of 1 un-necessary update hat has ruined literally everything about the game. If you were going to make changes …then you should stop having these Hot Events getting users to spend there gems or cash and getting absolutely fleeced time and time again as no one gets anything but the same tired pieces over and over….furthermore anyone who pays for a gold mathom token thinking they will get anything would be better off playing Russian roulette with a howitzer in there mouth thinking they will win a single thing. Talk about mass exodus of a game….violins are playing, ice berg demolished the ship and there’s no going back.

Game Ruin by Devs greed. Played the game since the very first day of release, and I’m very sad to say the 2.0 update ruined the entire game. ->Old players are frustrated everything changed after spending many seasons and lots of money m building commanders the way they want…just to have everything change and deeming half what they have built useless. ->New players won’t be able to develop any relevant commanders to use to fight against people have been playing for awhile. Old players stopped spending money, new players won’t spend money, servers aren’t even close to being filled anymore —> game is already dying within 2 months of 2.0 update and it’s just going to get worse. Update: asked for a refund since everything I paid for is useless now… got declined saying that “nothing has changed” and “your purchase is still just as effective now as it was in previous 1.0”. Lol. Game deleted. Don’t waste your time or money on this game.

Fun at first, Unplayable for free to play.. Loved the strategy, updated this review. It became pay to win after just 2 seasons because the developers seem to care more about money than balance. If you don’t dump tons of money you will never win a fight because all you’re doing is pulling for equipment for your commanders. Makes the game unplayable for any casual or individual who doesn’t have spending money lying around. I was also baited by false advertising through an Instagram ad so that was sketchy originally in season 1 (the ad made it look like it was a dungeon crawler, not a world wide war). I’ve played for over a year and the spending gap is the only factor that matters and even then there are commanders (ON GOOD SIDE ONLY) with EVERY POSSIBLE skill available to them from madness to damage reduction to evasion to stun to defense buffs, healing, and defense reduction. Evil side has some access to these skills to a degree but it’s not as explicit as it is on some commanders like Gil Galad, Gandalf the Grey, and Isildur.

Unfriendly to new players. Those who are interested in the LOTR lore will definitely enjoy this game, but that’s where the enjoyment stops. This game consists of seasoned players who have months or years into the game ganging up on new players. For example, I started my first game ever and get matched up with seasoned players that literally take over the entire server by asking their friends to play with them but on other factions so that they can easily betray and attack their allies when advantageous. It’s ridiculous that good factions can ally with bad factions in season 1 to enable this behavior. It’s almost as if the devs are encouraging this type of action. Furthermore, the world chat is littered with sexual innuendo, misogyny, and references to drug use alienating younger or female newcomers. PVP boils down to who can “bump” players more effectively instead of actually engaging in battles which leads to wasted stamina turning the game into a snarl instead of an active, fun, engaging experience. Definitely a pay to win arrangement

I think this is it. So, when they first came out this sort of strategy mobile game flooded the market. Most of them are just blatant rip offs of each other and have the exact same pattern on overcrowded menus and way too much stuff to pay attention to and it was all hidden behind a pay wall anyway so no one wanted to play them. This game however, is so nice and neatly packaged and it’s so user-friendly and even though it has a lot of the same overcrowded menus it’s all packaged much more neatly in that your castle only has really five buttons that you need to focus on and then you need to worry about your commanders and units. This as opposed to the other games that make you focus on 1 million different things all at once. Not to mention that it’s packaged in a lord of the rings skin which is absolutely fantastic. And also, at least for now, the game is not paid to win. I’ve seen just as many people playing for free doing really well as I have people who spent $100 on it already and have roughly the same stuff as those who work hard for it. My only criticism is that I wish there were more tips and, honestly, more commanders. But other than that this is a great game and I highly recommend it!

People just don’t know how to play. This game is fantastic. I have never had a mobile game that sucked me in and kept me playing as much as this one did. Everyone who is saying you need to spend money is simply just an idiot. This game is designed for the free to play players like myself. Here is NO way to speed up conscripting units with real money. NO way to speed up grain and material income with real money. And you are only allowed to buy 1 commander when you first start up the game. You can not buy commanders with real money. You cannot buy land with real money. These people complaining simply had no idea what they were doing and got rekt. Try the game out. You’ll love the attention to detail in Tolkien’s works. Every castle, keep, building, troop, and creature has a clickable tab that gives you information and quotes taken directly from Tolkien’s works. This is a game that the developers put a lot of thought and care into. Give it a try and see for yourself.

Good game but logistically confusing. This game brings me back to playing an original of this series from long ago, Command and Conquer Tiberium Alliances, namely because for so long it was a game of this genre that was fun and not at all pay to win. This game fortunately is not pay to win because it only can help speed things up, when you still only have so many resources to manage, it would be very expensive to use money to get ahead, and you wouldn’t get ahead much, needless to say I usually have enough gems just completing quests etc. the mechanics are fantastic, although idk how I feel about the mixed races in S1 and S2, I think it’s still a creative interesting idea. My only complaint is how overwhelmingly difficult it is to find any server information or sever release information. I want to play this game starting from the first day a S1 server comes out, so I can get into a decent fellowship and not be so behind but it’s hard to find information

Was A Superfan. I have played the game from almost the start. It has been super fun and loved the game & lore. As a Free to play it took forever to unlock my first T3 commander and as a result my best commanders respect lvl wise are T1. The 2.0 update feels like a slap in the face and even more so for my paying friends. My Grima took forever to get to R13 along with R10’s for Khaldoon & Ugthak. The update dropped them & gave some respect items, not the amount that raised them to their previous levels. At least I didn’t have it as hard as my friend who had Grima at R22 and it dropped to 10. So far on day one it feels like they thought long and hard on how to screw over the players and did that. The game has always been about speed, tile taking, and the fights. Now having to use more than one commander to take on even a lvl 30 mob feels wrong (commander is lvl 35 and was easily fighting them before update). I was really hoping version 2 would hone the masterful game we had. And give features & improvements to the almost perfect system…. But alas not. So at least at the time of writing I am giving it a go, but I probably will sadly hang up my Elven bow & sheath my Uruk sword and morn the game that was and could have been. I am giving it a 3 star for the great game it was, if it was just the changes I would give a 1 star.

Great game premise. Great game bad execution I started this game mid season and joined a faction with limited players already. We are at the biggest disadvantage possible. No way to actually keep from losing. The enemies have all higher level commanders because they started at the beginning of the season. The developers need to figure out how to keep the game fair for newer players who join mid season maybe when a new player joins start them off where they should be at that point in the season with a couple high level commanders some land surrounding them and some buffs to help them build an army. The tutorial needs to be more focused on how to help a player build themselves up to be able to withstand high level enemies. Also one or two factions can’t have all the power there needs to be more balance between factions. Maybe have a limit on the number of people who can join a faction and if a player becomes inactive let someone join the faction who is new. If inactive players can be kicked that should be done as well. It is worth playing but new players should be aware when you start pick a faction with a larger crowd of people that way you have time to learn the game and don’t have to worry about battling anybody until you are ready.

Great LOTR game!. This game is visually stunning. Collecting the different characters from the books and movies is also a lot of fun, especially with their cinematics. The game changes as the season goes on, morphing from a strictly PVE game to a mix of PVE and PVP. Late game requires a lot of coordination and strategy to get the rewards they have set out to motivate massive battles. My complaints: there’s no way to completely defeat someone. You can uproot their city which sends the. Somewhere else, they have the option to come back time and again. Some of the battle mechanics don’t make sense like if you March on a tile but it changes hands while you’re marching you’ll just uturn instead of attacking the enemy army waiting there. There should also be an easier way to time when attacks hit so it is easier to coordinate your commanders. The max size of the barracks is not enough for late game use especially after you have collected a lot of commanders. Love the game and you can play on the cheap and still succeed! I have literally only spent $1 to get Aragorn II and I am currently 11th on my server for total ring power! Very addictive and very fun!

Cashing in on Nostalgia. As a LOTR fan I got this game on release and have over 2k ring power/hr. I have not and do not plan to spend cash in game, I LOVE the characters and finally being able to play and see the story from The forces of Sauron side, but that’s pretty much where the positives end for me. Resources are terribly scarce and hard to replenish and WAY too many troops die in battle, you need these resources to heal your troops and recruit more, thus making it near impossible to build a massive army and keep them alive without exhausting resources, it’s hard to get upgrades and equipment through the tavern missions as you can only do so many without having to spend gems. This game is cashing in on the LOTR name and people’s nostalgia. Can be fun if you want to spend the cash though.

Please Read. I urge everyone to stop playing this game, it is badly broken. They pit players on season 3 against players playing their 6th season! That is BAD! I have spent hundreds on this game just to reach season 3 and fight against people who have played twice the seasons I have. That means my enemies have had twice the time to spend money on their account to whale themselves out. A child could make a better game, that is a huge flaw and an embarrassment. Do not play this, in fact it needs to be removed from the store. What they are doing to their players is just sickening.. you guys do not deserve a single star for doing me the way you have done, as well as half of my warband. Many s3 players underpowered by the s6 players, a child wouldn’t even make such a programming error. I would need too spend the same amount of money the s6 players have spent, but in half! The! Time! I am done getting slapped just because you develop trash. I’m done getting slapped just because you developers are incompetent. I am done playing this garbage, and I STRONGLY urge all other players to do the same. End this tragedy now

Game review from player who played from the start.. This game started off really fun in season 1 and was full of opportunities for a great LOTR fan base culture. Slowly it developed into a p2w game and left the original f2p who were hopeful for a game where everyone had an equal opportunity to be a top player. The World Chat in the game is so full of inappropriate talk, trolling, name calling, and threats that it detracts from the game and creates a toxic environment. When the game first came out I was hopeful for a game deep in lore and activities but it is all repetitive and the lore is not present like it should be. The Christmas event was a kick in the side to its players with a poor reward system. The riddles in the Yule event were absolute trash which was a missed opportunity because it could have been a chance for players to test their knowledge of Tolkien’s lore instead it was all about components to the game. The removal of mechanics which gave f2p an opportunity to slowly grind to start matching p2w so that the developers could force players to pay into the game was a greedy move and created an inequitable environment. All and all after a full season and almost all of season 2 I can say that I left the game permanently due to the aforementioned points.

Bad decisions lead to a floundering game experience.. For 2 years I loved this game. It was fun and dynamic. All of the diplomacy that this game engendered made for one of the most in depth games ever created. I had so much fun with it, that I spent freely and had typically one of the top accounts on most servers that I played. I’m addition, there was a definite spot for free to play players as pathers/tilers. Honestly, the tiling is what wins battles. Then 2.0 came along. Gameplay has become very stale. They somehow managed to make battles more confusing and yet more bland. There is no more respeccing on the fly to try to counter an opponent army. You have your big group of 4 characters that create your top army now…and that’s it. No more true counters are to be found. No free to play player can hit a whale with a counter build and win anymore. When attacking, you are either going to hit a pather army or a hitter army. You get no excitement from hitting a pather and hitting a hitter most of the time both armies are going to take some decent losses. It’s also very obvious that they did all of this to try to drive more money into their pockets, but it has made the game feel very stale. Most of my friends have quit, and after this season ends it’s likely that I quit too. It’s a real shame because I had so much fun before this change.

2.0 Not For Me. I played this game since it first came out 2 years ago and had no idea what I was getting into. I love the LoTR franchise and have for awhile so a game that encompassed my favorite characters and themes really spoke to me. I got very invested in this game and did spend a decent amount of money, but started to truly understand the mechanics and strategy to be a force without breaking the bank. The update that they put out completely changed that. It took away all the progress I had made and turned the game into something almost unplayable. Not only that, but the update hit in the midst of a season and the player count drastically fell. I miss the original version and the grind that came with it but all that progress was for nothing with this update. If you are new to the game, it may not be worth getting invested since it will cost you more now then it did at the beginning to even be relevant in your season. Sad to see such a fun game changed into something almost unrecognizable and I probably will never play again.

Fun to try but to toxic to play. The game is fun at first, there’s this immersion with the world that is very nostalgic. Building up is fun and grouping together with others can be a delight. However, the game serves (I have been on five now) quickly become over run with people making multiple accounts. Due to there being low populations in every server to get members and power in the factions people cheat. There is no set rule for making multiple accounts and the games teams do nothing about it. Eventually by last 5 chapters of season 1 the entire server is usually a few players with one account vs a single faction with 2-5 alt accounts. Add in the fact that people are just down right nasty in these games, most of the time are the cheaters. Overall the games fun to try but not worth to keep playing. Every server becomes a toxic wasteland of alt accounts. Even with a new season and “sever merger” it’s all the same. Until the devs and team actually do something about it’s toxic players and the rampant cheating it’s not worth the data or space on your phone.

So much promise, now squandered for money. I have played a lot of p2w games. Some are good, some are bad and this started off season 1 as the best p2w game I had ever played. Whales are limited in the amount of moves their commander can make, the resources they can acquire and they can not speed up troop training. F2p players could actually have an impact and there was a gear dismantling system in place so that, one day, f2p players could get the gear they wanted, even if the affixes were bad. The devs removed dismantling and now if you don’t spend a ton of money it’s very unlikely you get anything you need for your favorite commander. It is pure lottery and p2w now. The balance in the game has become skewed and there are blatant issues that the devs ignore. Witch King is broken and for the most part the rest of evil is terrible. On the good side, it’s a bunch of Gandalf the Grey/White spam and Theoden spam. Which is fine if thats the meta but it’s been like this for 2+ seasons with no real changes. It has become boring, stale and caters only to the p2w. The game had so much promise at the start because f2p and low spenders could still be relevant and have impact. Now it’s become clear the game is a cash grab and the devs don’t care about the players

It's not Farmville!. First, anyone thinking about playing this game needs to understand that it is not a farmville or simcity with dwarves kind of game. It is a PvP war game, where you must cooperate with other players in your fellowship and faction in order to survive. Farmers are not welcome. Fighters are. Second, it is a pay to win game. The game is very well structured in that it is possible to play all the way through without paying any money at all. But the top players spend thousands of dollars on this game, some of them tens of thousands, and it makes a difference. Plan to spend at least a few hundred dollars on this if you want to be competitive. Third, do not spend ANY money until you fully understand how equipment upgrades work. Upgrades are expensive and you do not want to wasre equipment. All of that said, this is truly an extraordinary game, especially if you are a LOTR fan. Especially if you've read ALL five of the books: The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, and the LOTR Trilogy. The graphics, gameplay, sound, everything. A work of art. It is deep and complex, like the books. Be patient. Come to learn. Come to fight. Come to win!

Losing players like crazy bc of horrible updates. The people running this game are only interested in money. They have changed the game entirely from its original format and made it almost entirely unplayable. The newest idea to only be able to leveled up heros beyond 40 by attacking other players will be the death of it. My teammates are quitting in droves bc of this and all the other changes that were not fully thought through before being implemented. So no only the strongest players can level up bc they kill everyone and get all the experience while the normal players are all stuck being unable to level up without ridiculous loses and giving the other player even more experience to beat them even worse next time… it’s exponentially weeding out all the normal players and only a handful of whales are enjoying it for now, but once there is no one left playing bc it’s now impossible to compete , they will get bored and leave too.

Best LOTR Game Out There. I'm so thrilled this game is out! I've played various Middle-Earth based games out there and this one is just more together and fun to play than most. The only thing I would ask for is that there was some sort of mini-game (or games) in it where you could gain very small amounts of XP for commanders (or some other resource) but be able to play it as much as you wanted. It would make for a fun way to kill time in the app while you're waiting for buildings to be constructed or troops to be conscripted, etc. Overall, though I'm very please with this game and will be looking forward to gaining more commanders and troop types. Hopefully there will be updates from time to time with even more commanders from the books and movies.

The Game is Unbalanced. It seems that the evil factions have quite a disadvantage in some aspects of the game. The commanders you can unlock generally won’t be nearly be as good as the commanders available to the good side factions. There are also absolutely zero 200+ power tiles besides the mountainous lair in the Mordor starting area which automatically gives the other factions an advantage. Overall I think the evil side factions need to be seriously buffed and/or reworked for the game to be balanced. Another thing: Getting commanders is extremely difficult and it makes the game pay to win. Even if you do manage to get a good commander by some miracle, you need to get EVEN MORE of their items to unlock more of their abilities, it’s absolutely insane how much money you need to spend to unlock a good commander and also unlock their entire ability tree.

Unbalanced. It is a great concept but the game is unbalanced. The good side has way better unit then the evil and that the faction have way to many on one side. The server I’m in half the evil factions have already been destroyed due the there not being a better max people cap on factions

Pretty good. It’s a really cool game and idea but it’s not very interactive. In seasons to come you could change the battle styles so players could use strategy to win battles and not just stats. Overall a very unique and cool game with lots of potential.

Lord of The Rings: Rise To War. Its a great game but you should be able to get gem mines or something like that as it is too hard to get gems. When in the tavern it is too expensive to refresh tips so often have to wait a full 24 hours before it refreshes.

False Advertising. I actually played this game for a few days, and I enjoyed it, but it wasn’t for me in the end but could see why people would like it. However I keep getting ads with false gameplay which is so deceptive and misleading and honestly the developers of this game should be sued for such practices. It’s so bad that I’ve gone out of my way to warn people about this, for it shows they are most likely money hungry producers with no integrity or care for their product. Disgraceful.

It’s called Middle Earth, Not Little Earth. The map feels tiny with multiple kingdoms almost on top of each other. Middle Earth is huge and vast with many different locations. There should be enough room for you to expand without being on top of other enemy players. Other strategy games allow you to grow your land as far as you need without being to close to enemy players. I recommend moving the other players away and giving the players room to expand, whilst allowing them to go attack other kingdoms and defend. I was quite looking forward to this game and am quite disappointed.

Waste of an hour of my life. I really put my full attention to the game to give it a real chance, it was disappointing to say the least. It’s not fun, it has a clunky UI, and it’s not easy to understand what is going on or what you are aiming to achieve.

Same thing different theme. I feel like I’ve played this game before aside from the theme it’s pretty much the same as any game in the genre. Build your city and troops up, expand your land in the slowest way possible only to find someone has destroyed your city and you’ve been relocated to a spot with 3 other players in spitting distance. I gave this an extra star for the theme and graphics, I’m a big LOTR fan and I think the developers nailed that aspect of the game.

Great game ruined by balancing issues. This game is missing basic multiplayer features. You can start a season and have half of the server stack one faction and have a massive population advantage. This happened on my server, the entire server and world is dominated with no ability to do anything and no reason to play other than unlock daily rewards. Game is full of whales that create fake accounts to waste space and spy on foreign faction battle plans.

Doesn’t work. Downloaded the app and says network error. Uninstalled and tried again, same problem. Also all the instructions were in Japanese for some reason. Deleted.

Can’t play as elf… server been full since launch. Pretty disappointing effort. Why are character locked to servers? Downloaded and deleted in the space of 24 hrs. Can wait for the next LOTR game… oh that’s right, we have a game about Gollum coming out. SMH. Anyone else miss return of the king co op days?

We need region servers. I absolutely love the game but all I’m doing is farming as everything happens at 3:00am in the morning as I live in Australia so I miss out on most of the game as I’m in bed asleep.

Once upon a time. Once upon a time I enjoyed this game. It was like the perfect mixture of walking through the real adventures middle earth had to offer and fun strategy that was mixed with camaraderie with warband/fellowship members. 2.0 has ruined it for me and many others. The activity drop from our player base has ruined this game for me. Simply a cash grab and nothing more! R.I.P

Game has been ruined by the Dev team. The game used to be really good and was the first game I even spent money because I was having so much fun But unfortunately it’s been ruined by the new version. I have tried to persevere through 2.0 but unfortunately the game that I loved and enjoyed is no longer there. All new modes favour P2W players and simple battle mechanics have now been changed to the point where it’s no longer fun Dont waste your time and money on this game

A wasted opportunity. Don’t get it, there’s inconsistency that makes no sense, I chose men as my faction, yet get randomly selected commanders from Isengard and Mordor? My commanders also run out of stamina quickly and when your build queue is maxed out there’s not really anything to do. Such a shame because the game looks great and had such huge potential to give LOTR fans something to really enjoy.

Horrible game don’t waste your time. From the coma inducing tones of the opening discount Galadriel that sound like she has had one too many valium to the poorly designed boring game play this is probably the worst game I have downloaded in 2021 don’t waste your time on this dull game with 0 interaction it’s build a thing wait for ages (or pay for it) then watch (not play) a battle unfold. Additionally hardly any of the factions are available so unless you love errebor or rhun don’t bother. Truely disappointing !

Update turned biggest scam. After spending thousands of dollars on this game, this game has taken it all away with the 2.0 version. The new system is incredibly flawed and ensures everything i have now is less than i had before. This game should revert back or be removed from the app store.

Additions. Add a campaign please or some sort of way to just first ai because I’d rather play and am sure many others would like to play at there own pace and not just get destroyed by people that have all the time in the world

Disappointing and bad faction balance. *sigh* where do I even begin. The overall game itself isn’t terrible. A bit lack lustre in content, the usual city builder so not expecting much. What infuriates me is the factions balance. The server I was on just got completely stomped by the dwarfs, I came back to my town being relocated and all my armies destroyed. There was nothing my faction as a whole could do to even try and stop them. It’s hobble design, and done so you can spend money like all the other blooody whales who stomp all in there way. Disappointing, and scummy design. But mans gotta eat so i can’t blame them.

Can you make it more faction realistic. 5 stars because of many things. I really enjoy the music and the gameplay. The only thing that really bothers me is that I picked Angmar as my faction and I see hobbits and humans and elves in my tavern. I wish they would have adapted the NPC component and characterisation based on your faction. I don’t want to see hobbits cooking, my leader is the witch king….

2.0 Update is terrible! Delete / Don’t install. We have had just a few hours to “enjoy” the new game version. Yet the entire experience throughout the update that lasted almost 12 hours (!!!) and the result that we’ve received as a version 2.0 are just outrageous.. The expectations set by the devs were not met in my opinion as well as the communications about the breaking changes and the new features were somewhat troublesome throughout the process. The resulting product is absolutely poor in quality with questionable game logic and just some straight bugs, to the point where the important terms introduced to the game by the technical writers and the localization team are confusing. Overall, in my opinion, the 2.0 update is extremely raw, forced, poor in quality and game design. Most of all the mandated mix of good and evil troops and commanders is just outrageous. I truly hope that WB will cancel its partnership with NetEase after understanding the damage to both the LotR as a whole and the company done by that ill-minded update.

It’s an amazing game but when you play it for a while it will get boring at some poin. Good game it’s fun to play and I would recommend playing it

Hugely disappointing. It’s a terrible shame that such an awesome franchise is crammed in to just another city builder. And like every other city builder game, it’s fun for about 2 weeks and then becomes dull, slow and dominated by P2W players. Some ideas are innovative and interesting like working together with your faction, but ultimately there isn’t enough in this game to keep me coming back, and even after a month of play I find myself bored. Combat is not engaging at all, just numbers based, so you can’t even particularly use strategy to win battles, it’s just who has the better stats. Add to that some very misleading mobile ads (a lot of which look worse than the actual game for some reason) and it’s incredibly disappointing to see the amazing Tolkien world reduced to this.

Great but plz fix this bug. Hi! This game is my favourite game! I love LOTR, movies and books! But sometimes it kicks me out randomly. This is very annoying because I have to do the load in again. I will give this game a 5 star if you fix this. Also can you please put in a way to turn off the chat completely? This is much appreciated! Thank for this amazing game!

Just love this game. I reckon they should make a movie based on this game it would be the best movie ever!!!!

Potential. The game at its core is fun and the commanders look great! I do find myself running out of things to do once my stamina depletes and building ques are set. It would be cool if there were a few innovative ways to keep players occupied rather than steer them into buying things to make you progress faster. Where as this doesn’t surprise me, I don’t see a healthy balance just yet. Game needs some more depth to keep non-whales engaged. Over all I do enjoy it, I just run out of stuff to do.

Amazing but. GREAT game but if you show people the actual game more people will keep playing not leave when they see the games different to the ad

Was having fun until it glitched. I actually really enjoyed this game. However once I got to chapter 15, It is instructing me to click on something, which I cannot do. And now I can’t click on anything else. I literally cannot play anymore which is super disappointing

Pretty goof. Not very interactive, but perhaps for the best as combat gets intensive when you porgress, it would be nice if pvp with other players in the game was more immersive, for example if you take a keep

It’s fun but not very interactive.. The only problem I had was the combat for commanders especially in the red book battles. It would be nice if there were abilities you could use mid combat so it could be more skill based instead of numbers. It would be nice if there were a skill for commanders that would be unlocked. Or a something like the upgrading units system. I just believe it would make it more enjoyable and keep players interested.

Pretty good. I do wish we could have more control of the armies

New update no good. Version 2.0 will turn a lot of long time players off this.

Customer service. I would like to be put in touch with the customer service of this game. The latest updates have destroyed the game. In addition a refund can be provided but it is only partial and you will end up in negative germ territory which means that you cannot effectively play anymore ( can’t even reskill a commander). In game feedback function is not helping as the responses are automated and the thread is closed. Please provide a phone number or email address to communicate.

Quite mediocre. Nothing special. It’s like Clash of Clans with an expensive looking Lord of the Rings aesthetic slapped on. Just a standard time consuming mobile game designed to part a fool from his money. It looks amazing though, that’s why it’s 2 stars instead of 1.

I like the concept.. You need to make it playable. Stamina burns instantly and is too expensive. Encouraging micro spending will get you players $1 for stamina or enough gems for some stamina and you would have a large base

Well done pvp pay to win.. Fundamentally it seemed not bad building up the city… and then the long timers start kicking in and I realised that the core building and recruitment is almost identical to State of Survival. Along with the similar events and spending. Been there done that, deleted.

Devs just trashed the game. The version 2 completely re-writes the entire game making sure that any knowledge you had is now obsolete. Commander profile pics now look like they were drawn by a drunken anime fan, pvp fighting is now a power battle to collect multiple commanders (which you will need to randomly get through loot chests which are micro purchased through gems). I spent two years learning how to play original (Vendal), none of that knowledge is now useful. So long and thanks for all the fish!

Perfect. This is the exact game I have been looking for for ages and I am glad it is not just numbers based but the different units matter as well.

Love playing. My brother and I love playing this game. I myself am a good and true LOTR fan and enjoy it’s similarity to it. 5/5 Stars from me!

Good. I’m having fun, made a few friends and conquered middle earth

Evil is unbalanced. Most recent update completely ruined the ability for evil to compete. Many players are demanding refunds and I contacted support regarding changing my gear, commander, respect, etc to good even if it meant restarting. Yet support merely say it’s been noted and don’t get back to me. If you get the game don’t go evil you will lose no matter what.

Not worth the wait. Haven’t been able to log in since game crashed the first time let me pick my faction but keeps crashing now every time I upload main screen gets to 99% then crashes.. please fix !

Action-packed and Filled to the Brim. This game is very new so understandably it is a little clunky but the creators put a lot of effort into it. It’s packed full and very fun and enjoyable to play. Altogether an amazing game. Try it out!

Lord of the Rings Review. As a Die Hard Tolkien fan, I’m stoked this game is out. Folk May say the PTW line but its definitely Not. Anyway these developers deserve the small daily purchases. 9/10 I Say.

Way too expensive. Cannot afford either the time or the money this game requires enjoyed the first part of each season then got thumped by those with deeper pockets and no lives. Leaving very dissatisfied. No more money from me!

2.0 is not an update, it’s a different game. This was alright, not perfect but alright. And I can’t yet comment about 2.0 being better or worse overall, but it is t an update - it’s a new game. Which means everything you’ve done for seasons building up commanders and equipment is gone and useless. I am not even a long term player yet and this really discouraged me from playing. I can’t imagine what people feel who have built up their stuff for YEARs and then lose it all in a single update. Also executing the update on a server mid season?!?! Whose idea was that? All play has stopped. The update is so comprehensive that even play style is totally different. Everything an old hand knew is now basically worthless.

Improvement. You should add a way to train older units into a higher tier. Like I have 1000 plus tier I soldiers that are too weak now. Wish you could train them into Tier II units. Great game tho

Long March. The only problem I’ve had is that when I tried too long March and I couldn’t it wouldn’t tell me why other then insufficient ability points it won’t tell me other reasons which would help a lot

Awesome Game!!. I’ve looked through all the negative reviews of this game, and they’re all from people who haven’t played for more than a few hours. This game has so much to offer, and guess what THIS GAME IS NEITHER P2P OR P2W!! I have huge respect towards the developer for not milking this game! It’s literally the main reason I play it! IT’S F2W!!! FINALLY A F2W GAME!!! Sure, you can buy things, but they provide a very slight advantage (ty developers, ily). You can’t win by spending money. The key to winning is having an organised faction who are active, and coordinate coherently. The graphics are awesome, the gameplay is awesome, everything about this game is awesome!! The only criticism I may have is that some servers are quite inactive, and should be merged in Season 2. Some factions in my server are getting dominated, simply for the fact that hey don’t have enough active players.

Awesome Game. This game is awesome and I really enjoy it but you should be able to change factions whenever you want and that is my only problem in the game

Utterly broken, do not download. Was a fun game, although to compete, you had to spend A LOT of cash. With the new version 2.0, it is far, far worse. It is just wallet abuse of the highest order. Awful, awful money grab. Avoid like the plague.

Great thank you the dev team. Ive been waiting for so long for the time someone would bring a LOTR game on mobile and finally, thank you.

Disappointed with 2.0. The game was awesome before 2.0 and after that update it now sucks compared to before the 2.0 update, please devs if you are reading this then please listen to the community and switch it back to how it was before.

Fraudulent. This game just had a catastrophic update. Nothing like the great game it used to be. I do not recommend, the developers care about profits than creating a good game.

Pre ordered disappointment. Decent game too bad no real supervision of the weenies these games seem to draw for me just a bad memory now have fun

Awful 2.0 update. This update is garbage I couldn’t play it everyone is quitting the game and I will delete the game as well just plain awful

It was ok.. The Game Developers seemed to have grown drunk off power for the want of money. They don’t communicate well with the player base and continue to make unwanted changes. As well I have no idea how anyone who wants to be free to play could play this game the devs appear to have made it too hard for them to participate in the only exciting part which is; PVP(player vs. player) fights. But if you drop some money like I have in the game you can have some fun. However just know the devs could make changes whenever and the value of your account could change very suddenly. It made me feel very betrayed. And uneasy about any more purchases.

Tolkien is spinning in his grave. Imagine taking one of the greatest fantasy universes of all time and turning it into a generic freemium base builder. You should all be ashamed of yourselves a

Caution. Was a really good game then had 2.0 rammed down our throats with no option but join the new game. Might have played both but now feel like I have been suckered punched. Don’t invest into this game they will change everything and expect you to just keep playing.

2.0 trash. They have changed the game entirely with no respect to their player base and now the game is entirely boring, huge nerfs, less fights on less fronts because of limited use of commander in their formation feature.

2.0 Ruined the Game. I would give 0 stars if I could. For 2 years this game has been good - not a masterpiece but a solid strategy game for us LOTR fans, and all that is gone with the 2.0 version that was implemented on November 8th, 2023. The commanders that we spent money on have their skills changed, the gears we worked hard to get got the skills re-worked, and the game turned into a massive PLAY TO WIN abyss. I need to pay money to get back the gear I already had, all the old strategies, commander builds, and guides that we have been building for 2 years are obsolete. Advice to new players: DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME UNTIL 2.0 is reverted back.

pre-ordered and disappointed. played maybe 10 minutes,no thanks.

Total disappointment. I spent hours building my army and gathering lands all of this for nothing when the second season came up they deleted everything I had done. I’m glad I didn’t spend any money on it.

The 2.0 version is terrible. Please, return to the old version

They ruined it. The gameplay and features they added with the 2.0 update comes from themselves. Every player suggestions or request have been ignored. They haven’t upgraded or implemented anything the player base asked since release and that’s why the game was slowly dying. With the new 2.0 update they changed everything entirely so you have a new game and every micro transaction you did prior is rendered obsolete and wasted. Basically they increase the infinity of spending which will make it so that you can’t stay relevant and keep playing versus higher spender. All those changes weren’t well implemented nor well communicated. Season last 55 days and they announce 10 days ahead of time that game update to 2.0 so it occurs mid season even though everyone asked them not to do it. It’s not worth downloading. I played since release for 2 years but now it’s over.

Stupidly bad. I never thought in a million years I’d badmouth the lord of the rings….. This app is BAD. The combat is beyond basic, the voice acting is cringe, and progression is boring. It’s just another dime a dozen mobile game. If you want a game where tapping a screen is your thing, this is it. Take this app down. It’s that bad and an embarrassment to The lord of the rings.

Don’t download. New 2.0 patch completely ruined the game and left it a COMPLETE pay to win.

So disappointed…. Prime example of what happens when a game spends more on its marketing than its development. This is a lame Clash of Clans type game with mediocre at best game play and a “Lord of the Rings” title slapped on. I’m sure some people like this type of game. But all it requires is a big wallet. “Your level 2 towers were destroyed. Repair and build level 3 towers.” “Your level 5 archers were killed. Restock and recruit/train level 6 archers.” There is no ingenuity, no new features, no creativity. It’s a shame that LOTR has allowed its name to be used on a game like this. You want to play a mobile game up to today’s standards? Try Call of Duty: Mobile - the game is celebrating its 2nd anniversary and has the most robust gameplay I’ve ever seen - or Knights of the Old Republic - a port of one of the best RPG games ever. I mean JUST imagine how good this game could’ve been… Ever play Shadow of War? Amazing! LOTR Conquest? Super fun! This feels EXACTLY like the type of game you see in mobile ads that have no semblance to actual game play. The battles feel distant and insignificant, the mobs have no physics attached to them with a handful of animations. Just really disappointed. Like I literally have to force myself to play. It’s SO dull and one dimensional. There’s no experimenting, you can only be better or worse. So terrible.

New update sucks. The devs released a new version of the game that nobody asked for and completely ruined the game, don’t waist your time with this game the devs don’t listen to their player base NOBODY WANTED THIS UPDATE

Fake ad. Horrible pay to win, city building game that is nothing like the ads for it. Takes forever to do anything, not fun at all. Waste of time.

2.0 bait and switch scam. It pains me to write this review as I have been a major supporter of this game. Yes there are pay to win elements of this game which lessen the experience, but if you can get past that you could actually have a lot of fun playing this game. I have made many friends and memories that I didn’t expect to experience when I started playing. That being said the release of the 2.0 update has damaged this game forever. The old version took a tremendous amount of skill and game based knowledge. Now it’s a completely different experience and not in a good way. Many free to play players lost equipment they had been working on for years to achieve. Lower level characters lost really cool abilities that can help compete against pay to win players. Many players have given up and feel betrayed. If you are like me and can afford to spend money in game, all your purchases just lost a majority of their value. They said originally I would have some options so it wouldn’t be hard to transition to 2.0 . Unfortunately that did not happen. Instead decisions were made during the update by the developers. I contacted support of both Apple and the developer to get a refund of purchases made. Apple stated that because my purchases were in-game they couldn’t help me. The developers support sent a copy and paste statement that basically said ‘ thank you for your support and suggestions’ and ‘please be patient ‘. Because of this I have requested Apple to remove this app from their services. In my opinion as a consumer this app is now a bait and switch scam. If you pay for services now during 2.0 who knows what their value will be when 3.0 comes out. As a fan of this game and of lord of the rings in general I would highly recommend you avoid this game at all costs. They don’t deserve your loyalty and more importantly your time.

Hot garbage. The entire UK could be powered by attaching a turbine to Tolkien’s spinning, desiccated corpse after the release of this travesty

Pay to win game for bullies. Don’t expect balanced seasons after season 2. Pay to win whales get groups together to smash servers when registration numbers per factions are capped starting s3. There’s a lot of servers being filled with bots who register accounts in opposing factions so their faction can dominate against non-active accounts. A lot of these dominating groups have played 5 or 6 seasons only to go back to s3 or 4 to play against less developed players. And often they come back to bully servers because it was done to them in previous seasons. The level of misogyny and horrific world chat is stupendous - no matter which server. Moderation is awful. Don’t invest in this game, the player base will diminish very quickly (and we’re already seeing a tone of attrition). Developers need to fix balance, fix moderation, stop having 3 season players going up against 6 season players, or watch players stop spending and quitting altogether.

Update 2.0. You guys just ruined the game forever, half way into a season and were all screwed, needs to be reviewd bad and put back to the way it was.

Really nice and well stuctured. Even if some people don’t like the game I really think that the game has a lot to offer and can really be enjoyed. The game is well developed and balanced overall. It sure has some things to upgrade and work on, but the main onjective of the game and the mechanics are really nice and are better than other games of the same kind

…meh. Just like all other reviews mentioned, this is your average clash of clans game, just LOTR themed. Sure the graphics are great and the music brings back memories, but other than that, there’s nothing else appealing... I’m not sure if more features will be added, but by the looks of it, it seems like it’s just gonna be another strategy game. While some may enjoy these type of games, it’s definitely not for me, which is unfortunate because the LOTR trilogy is one of my all-time favourites…

If I could give less I would. Stole thousands off me personally. Deus gusting developers and fake support

Need improvement, but still good. Don’t go in this thinking of epic battle battle like in the movies. This is a very strategic game with politics involved. My problem is with the evil side. Their commanders are way more powerful than good commanders and if you want to play "roleplay", it’s going to be difficult. I played this game since season 1 and there is a lot a things that can be improved to make more fun. Despite all of this, the community is the best one I ever encountered in any kind of game. These a competitive ambiance but everyone wants to help some if they don’t know what they are doing. I would have liked a more "free to play" experience because paying for the game gives you a an advantage, but with the right faction and the right timing, you can easily win without having to pay a single dollar. Is that a most play for a LOTR fan? I think so, but don’t be fooled. This is not a solo type of game, you need to put hours and help others to make your team stronger. For conclusion, the community is easily the beat part of the game. I made friend with people in Europe, even Russian ( who are against the war ) and I live in Canada. Take your time with the game. Give it more then just 1 week and socialize. You will find yourself in, imo, the beat community I have been in video game so far. For conclusion. It needs balance, but it’s a hell of a good game

Weak & Boring p2w gameplay. Game mechanics is boring and confusing. Action if any is very dull. Certain characters requires A LOT of money to unlock in the gatcha store.

This game is a disgrace to Tolkien and his universe. This is a poorly made freemium game, only to juice you of your money. It is an massive understatement that lord of the rings does not deserve being turned into this horrible monstrosity of a game. Not only has this been approved by the Tolkien estate but made into existence. You will be ashamed of this.

2.NO. 2.0 is a classic case of sunk cost fallacy hon wrong. Shame on all of the management within this company for ruining this game. Spend your money elsewhere.

2.0. Greed destroyed this game , devs don’t listen to community pushing updates no one wants and is very obvious what is for . Most ppl I played quit

2.0. This game was fantastic before 2.0! Unfortunately after the “new and improved” updates, this game has literally become a money pit for those willing to throw money at it. There was a great competitive aspect for all players, wether you spent money on the game or not you could have an impact. Now unless you’re spending hundreds or even thousands every season (2-3months) you have basically no competitive value to offer to your team. It is truly sad and if the game devs cared about their game and the people who play it and NOT JUST MONEY, then they would offer some sort of incentive for new and free to play players. But nonetheless I don’t think we will ever see that day.. moral of the story, DONT PLAY THIS GAME

New update. New update is sucks

Stain on the LOTR world. This game is an absolute mockery of LOTR. There is literally 20 years of content and lore to make a great game. And this dumpster fire is what they come up with? Copy and pasted over existing games with the LOTR IP? Nah. Save yourself the time and just downvote this trash. LOTR deserves better than being a copy paste game. Shame on this company and anyone who thought this was a good idea.

Dissapointed. Its your typical copy and paste mobile strategy game. 😔

Total CON job!!. This game is absolutely NOTHING like the gameplay that’s being advertised! This should actually be illegal because it’s a flat out LIE and total misrepresentation of the actual game! There is zero feature that lets you control a character in first person and the graphics are no where near what’s been shown.

Boring money grabbing game. Keep seeing ads for this game that don’t show the gameplay accurately at all pretty lame that you guys have to lie about your game to try n get new players. I played for a couple weeks n it was so boring kept getting asked to spend money the gameplay is just grinding but with no rewards I don’t get to see my troops on the field i just send em on a March n that’s that. Just another basic mobile game don’t waste your time if you want actual gameplay go try totalwar medieval 2 on mobile million times better than this

Thieves. 2.0 ruined the game and they stole our money.

It's over.... ... 2.0 was the nail in the coffin for this once great game. Years of investing into commanders flushed down the toilet by misguided and/or clueless developers. Do not install this game, bye bye!

Don’t waste your time. Will randomly release a update like 2.0 that completely changes the game and basically makes any time and money you’ve spent on this game useless

Deceptive Advertising. I first heard about this game on Instagram, where the advertisements showed gameplay to be a third person action RPG not dissimilar lord of the rings conquest or war in the north. As most people find out when they download the mobile game, there is no 3rd-person combat whatsoever. The advertisements were removed off of all the official platforms or delisted, given they are wholly fraudulent. However, they are still using those same deceptive videos today to advertise this game on Instagram. As a long time fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, it is disheartening to see the licensee used like this and I think he would personally be sickened.

Update 2.0. Game was ruined with new p2w update 2.0. Game is no longer fun after 2 years of playing.

Complete cash grab p2w crap.. Literally a blemish on Tolkien’s legacy

Can’t play. Always show error “server temporarily closed” in main UI

Trash game. Do not download. Game used to be amazing! 2.0 rolled in and they ruined all the mechanics. Not to mention removing items from inventory that cost real money. Total scam.

Pay to win predatory type of game. You will get destroyed against players who do pay to win or sweaty group which pretty much what it comes down to, if you don’t pay , you will have extremely hard time to win in this game, if you do everything right without paying money to this game, you will still loose in most pvp scenario because other players who do pay to win have better gear then you , they have more higher tier commander at there maximum power in there tree which changes everything if you are going up against them so not really fair to free to players. You will have to play this game for 9 months minimum which is 3 seasons in total just to get even 1 commander anywhere close to its maximum potential compare to pay to win players or sweaty groups who have multiple commanders at there maximum level within a month or two because they pay to win things that can change who win even if you are higher level commander as free to play still would not matter against pay to win players. As for other things in this game it’s pretty boring you just watch video simulation of your battle and sit wait for everything to upgrade, you capture a tile wait days for it produce resource then you do that all over again when season resets. What a awful predatory game a franchise of lotr has allowed itself to degrade itself it by creating this game who just was to make money using predatory vicious schemes.

New updates are awful.. Graphic “update” is actually a downgrade.

Bad game. I’ve been playing this for a few months ands it just a typical battle strategy game, spent to much on the adds that look fine except for one… what they did is call Legolas Aragorn, that is unforgivable.

Poor game mechanics. Can’t even tier up troops, waste of time.

Good but heavily P2W. P2W = Pay to Win. This game is actually a really good game. I enjoyed enough to spend maybe $500 most on one account. Never seen more than 4 epic or legendary gear. Season 1 and 2 are fun but season 3 is where the Pay to Wins (p2W). The “whales” (P2W) dominate everything in season 3 and above and definitely if their are any in season 1 or 2. If you get lucky no “Whale” is in season 1 or it’s extremely lucky if their are no whales in season 2. They completely dominate and destroy everyone. Free to plays have literally 0 chance. The updates don’t seem to make it more Free to Play only bug fixes. I hope this game becomes more Free to play. That’s what Tolkien (a catholic) would have wanted.

Solid but can do much better. I like the game overall so far I feel immersed but I feel like we could have a little bit more customization options for our city’s. And I wish the battle system was more better like being able to actual control what your archers do and Calvary etc. I mean it’s a good start and very fun but just wish there was more stuff to do when going to war against other army’s. Y’all got this I was excited for this game and hope for the best. Also why does it say it’s a draw when I killed all of there soldiers and I only lost a few. That doesn’t make any sense we should win if all there soldiers are dead

From a 5* to a 1* in 2 season. The game started out amazing. Best resource war game out there. Then the devs kept messing with things. Nerfing commanders, adding unbalanced buffs. This latest update of giving burn damage reduction to 2 good faction troops basically nerfs 10 evil faction commanders. Most of the evil faction commanders rely on burn damage. A majority of the units deliver it. Why because evil commanders can’t heal. They have to deliver high damage. The update of March 1st made these commanders about useless since the majority of their skills are burn damage perks. If a lvl3 troop can cut a commanders damage in half, then add to it the high heal of the good factions, it’s about game over. Shady move developers, shady move. You are alienating a good portion of your player base. These players spend a lot of money.

Out for your money. Season 1 and 2 are great, if you choose to spend money though I wouldn’t. You get to season 3 and can’t register for a campaign because they joining method is bogus. If your team has a lot of player you are going to struggle to get your whole team in a campaign as a team. Spent way too much money beefing up commanders to be stuck in bag end, unable to join a campaign because they fill up the second they open, which is 3am eastern time in the US if you’re curious. So now sitting in bag end went all my money in comms doing nothing for over a week now and they only open one server every week. 10/10 do not recommend after season 2, and don’t spend money.

(Fellowship Teams)☠️. Please get rid of making separate fellowships and make it into one (whole faction)or increase the cap to (200players in one fellowship)Tired of seeing players forced to become farmers or lack of teamwork coming from leaders being picky who gets to join or doesn’t in their team ~using other other factions cathedrals is the big issue consider scrapping (seperate fellowships )& make it into 1 whole group where we don’t have to choose and bicker in faction chat who gets to be let in all in all its fun enjoying what you’ve guys created hope it’ll surpass Dawn of titans Era ~,.Game before it collapsed,.

Almost Enjoyable. I love playing the game and enjoy the other players. The challenge is great and I don’t mind the payment aspects of the game. But it seems like Mordor is pretty OP. I mean my fellowship is organized and strategic, with many seasoned players in our Gondorian faction, and we still haven’t broken through. I’m all about finding the right skills and troops for the task, but we’ve all agreed that the Evil commanders (particularly Khaldoon and Grima) are the equivalent of a noob tube. A lot of people just quit after our first major loss to Mordor this season, because of the frustration.. 4 stars for a great game with certain unfair advantages.

Okayish. Theme is good, music is awesome, gameplay is fairly good, similar to Rise of Kingdoms. The game seems to be less of a pay to win model compared to other similar games, however, it still is. You can do fairly good against low/medium spenders, but you’ll always find a huge whale in each server … (had two) which completely kills the game … The game itself is pretty fun in the early game/mid game, however end game is a lot less fun, need to be constantly on to fend off other factions and that’s pretty much all. Also factions are not balanced at all and some factions have a lot more active players which makes the game totally unbalanced. Fun to play for a few weeks, after that it becomes more of a “I have to log in because” and not a “I play because I enjoy it”, so give it a try but don’t put too much of yourself into it.

Fun game. I’ve been playing this game for a bout two months and I really enjoy it. My favorite thing about the game is how you can recruit middle earths fabled commanders, and the ability to choose different kingdoms like Gondor, and Rohan. The one thing I don’t like is that it can be pretty slow to expand your personal territory and grow an army at the beginning of each season but as you upgrade more structures and level your commanders it gets pretty easier. This game is a must for those that love the LOTR franchise and strategic games.

Hopefully it gets better. So the graphics and characters everything is great its a carbon copy of the movie. However that’s where all the positives end. The time it takes for your stamina to recharge is crazy. Did I mention that there’s no way to refill your stamina other than waiting? Stamina is needed for everything so just trying to get resource plots is gonna cost you 10 stamina. So by the time you do start getting in the groove you’re out of stamina and then you start losing interest in the game. There’s no resource boxes for purchase or anything like that. You can buy gems but can’t use the gems to replenish your stamina or resources so its pretty dumb to buy gems. Hopefully they fix these issues but I’m going to uninstall it for now

Good thought poor community. This is rather interesting and tries to bring new ideas to the base building/army buildings games. It was fun for a rather short time. Less than 1 day into playing I have had 4 people me for just playing the game. Haven’t bothered anyone but they are demanding I stop doing what your supposed to do. The developers really need to change how new players are positioned. One of the key concepts of this game is expanding your territory. When I started there was 5 players right on top of each other. Effectively cause conflict immediately. I’m not dealing with such a toxic community so will be deleting. I play games to have fun not be harassed for no reason. Especially a player so new. Maybe I’ll try again after a few updates but unless your looking to just fight with people look for a better game.

Good and balanced game. I was hasty in my survey, so I figured I’d make a review. The game is 5/5 because of how forgiving it is to players who don’t want to pay. I haven’t spent a dime and have nearly the top tier troops ready for war. The commander progress is a little slow for my liking, but the events they have to select farm for specific commanders is a very good step In the right direction. My server is currently at war with the elves and my tier 3 troops are keeping up with the main powerhouses as of now, so if they have spent money, I feel sorry a broke dwarf like me is giving them a run for their money(literally). All in all, the graphics are good, the progression is satisfying and the lord is very nice to delve into.

Fort limitations?!. So first let me start by saying I absolutely love this game. I’ve been playing it for the past six months almost nonstop. I just started a new account and in season one and there is no way to upgrade past 10 forts? On top of that you increase The level of long march to 50? How are we supposed to defend our borders and advance at the same time? How are we going to advance when we do not have enough forts and we don’t even get the ability to long march until 50? Devs I love you, but do you even play this game?

Not impressed. I’ve spent the last four days on this game, it’s just another game you need to spend money in game in order to advance or keep up with everyone else. You’ll end up spending over $10,000 on this game to be disappointed with how you get to navigate the map and not to mention the troop loses that you suffer, this game needs a lot of work. You can spend days training troops then to have them wiped out by their over powered lands. There are way to many people to compete with on each server. You also have to constantly exit out of the game to make certain features work. You also get kicked off the game multiple times because it crashes. It’s addicting, but not worth getting hooked. I suggest you stay away.

Evil Factions are truly outnumbered and weak , dont install. if you are fan of Sauron or Saruman or witchking of Angmar or whatever , u will lose in this game , why ? cuz the game has 6 good factions vs 4 evil factions that usually are empty of members !! i suggest to developers please delete Lindon and Arnor from servers , angmar and isengard cant battle with 4 factions in west alone !! u can see in all of servers there no powerful evil faction ! i cant undrestand why evil factions have only 1 very resistant unit ( Crusher ) , but good factions have 5! really what are you doing ! Tier 4 unit of mordor ( Ravagers ) has 4 anti unit that can easily defeat them , they are very slow and useless in battles ! angmar and isengard hasnt any mumakil camp or fellbeat lair … they surrended by many enemies … So i suggest as a experience player of this game to all of you if you are a fan of evil and villains , dont install this game , its shiet

Great game! I recommend to EVERYONE, but. This game is amazing but they need to fix the respect/recruit system. If you don’t pay massive amounts of money. I’m Talking if your not spending $20 atleast DAILY, your commanders will not be strong enough to be worth anything in season 2. And you will only have about 4 generals average. Which seems like a lot but it is not. You fall behind severely in comparison to those who pay those amount. And there are ALOT! Honestly the only thing I feel is wrong with this game is the respect/recruit system for the generals if that gets fixed that would be the best

ATTENTION!!. This game is a mix of feeling one day is good and another day it’s just not good, after building a fortress it doesn’t eat you rename it, it doesn’t let you fill back up the commander’s stamina when you payed for it and seems very unfair. When you send you Army to a location to fight it locks back on returning to your Capital and it doesn’t give you the option to give new coordinates to them to continue fighting somewhere else since they are already close to the location. The World map doesn’t show the members in the same Fellowships and it’s really hard to locate them and I wish we just had these simple things to make the game greater. I am more than 100% fan of lord of the rings and it’s really disappointing how easy and basic things are restricted for the players.

It’s a fun game, big time commitment. I enjoy this game a good deal. About 25$ a month gets you in the competitive bracket. You can do f2p though and be a major player…if you spend a lot more time playing. But lately I’ve noticed the time commitment is getting a bit much. 5 minutes to March somewhere. 2 to wait for troops. Basically takes like 2-3 hours to play through one sitting. Not to mention, nobody in this game likes to path. Probably because of how time consuming it is.

Waste of time. I’ve played this game for the past few months and really enjoyed the experience. The team constantly worked on the game with updates, they responded to the one ticket I submitted timely, and the game has a lot of LOTR elements. However season 2 just dropped today and as of today I’m no longer going to play the game. Why? Because season 2 resets you to level 1. Yes, you keep your commanders, equipment, gold, and gems…but your ring power, commander levels, and everything that you spent time building is reset to level 1. So now I have to rebuild and level everyone again???? No thank you as there is no point (when the next season rolls around and resets you again). In the end, it’s a pretty good game, but very poor planning.

A waste of time. I was having a lot of fun with this game until recently today when I tried opening the app, and it told me that season two was available, and all the hard work of my colony was missing sell all my commanders. All my progress is gone and I have to start over from scratch? Nothing about this makes sense. I’ve tried re-logging into my Apple account and so far no luck, all my data is gone just making a fair warning to all other players do not get too attached to this game if this is their plan for a positive game experience because so far, I’m very upset hours of gameplay is now gone for me and everything was looking good early last morning

Fun RTS. I don't quite reviews but this game is fun to me. You don't need to pay money to win. This is a time based game the more time you put in to it the more you get. I've been letting since serves opened I'm doing really good. I spent 3 dollars just to get a few boost's and to support the game. Honestly just do a few tasks. wait a bit come back do a few more tasks. It's what you make of it. I have a Fellowship almost level 10 no money required. I see alot of negative reviews but I haven't had any issues with the game. People need to lower their expectations. Not every game is going to be an over the top PC game. It's a mobile game with limits. Personally I enjoy the game.

It’s not worth playing. I love games like this. With that being said it’s literally not worth your time or money to play the mechanics to this game are confusing at best you not only need to grind to get your commanders to a high level but you also need to have him at a higher respect level for you to even be able to have a chance at getting anywhere for example I had my commander at a level 45 but since I didn’t have him at a higher respect than a level 30 commander my team gets destroyed, and to get the respect you need you waste a lot of your money to get just one commander to a fighting level even though you can have 7 commanders by the end of a so called season only one team is worth anything while the others are pretty much useless not going to recommend this game to anyone

Has Potential. This game is very rough around the edges. Like extremely so. The user interface is barely intuitive if at all. The “Help” function doesn’t offer much help either. So most of the time you’re experimenting of how the game works, which could be interesting in itself. The war aspect is very simplistic. Being a FarmVille type of grinder for your main way of taking over territory like in all those other mobile games. BUT! Having a lot of players to work together on taking over regions and fighting with different factions. Finding a diplomatic solution to the problem. Building strategy. Is quite fun. So if you’re into an experience of talking and politics. This is right up your alley.

Not For LOTR Fans. Stopped playing after the first season, was more like work than playing a game for enjoyment. The changes they have made for alliances is ridiculus and losing everything you have earned each season is terrible. I, like many other Tolkien fans was over the moon when this game came out. Not like there are that many LOTR games currently running. The only LOTR features really are the names, you could call this game anything. You are not forced to buy anything but do not expect to get far unless you do, especially if you have any enemies nearby who are spending. Get ready for a whipping. I hope there is a Tolkien-themed game in the future which holds on to the feel and meaning of the books but at this time, there are none.

Profile Picture. I really enjoy the given profile pictures that are already in the game but like most mobile games that have Factions and Guilds they always have an update where you can upload your very own personal image, but before it’s uploaded it has to be moderated to make sure it’s appropriate. So I think LOTRRTW should have an upload option to upload your own image it would be a great feature in the next update and would really be appreciated by my friends and family who I’ve got into this game, and they enjoy it very much but anyways thank you for your time and really hope you get this message.

Was so impressed but…. I see many reviews saying how much fun the first season was. I can agree with that, I played the least populated faction and we’ve still been able to compete with the whales by spending 10$ here and there on the game. Sad thing I was told I’d be get ready to shill out a lot more money as season 2 opens up a whole new way to of pay to win. Not pay to speed up progression like it’s been in season 1. Because of this and the videos on season 2 that I’ve watched, plus the developers only response to any real criticism is “We’re working on making sure the game is equal and accessible to all”. Y’all are worse than the democrats currently. Never giving anyone a straight answer.

Game has a lot going for it, But. The game is pretty well thought out. Takes some time to get used to the menus and short cuts. But overall fun to play. That being said… Its fun to play when you can actually play it. Not sure if having an older phone is causing issues or what. (Iphone 7+) you try to run red book missions, game closes. Access the tavern too quick after loading in, game closes. Try to send armies out, game closes. I have literally tried to respond in chat and had the game close on me four times before I could get a response in. In the current state at least for me… the game is completely unplayable. I spend more time waiting to log in than I actually do in game. I have tried both on and off wifi, uninstalling and downloading again. Nothing works. Its sad too. Id love to play their game as I love this genre.

Tappy, Tappy, Pay-to-win. This game could have been great. It takes at least a week of playing it to understand what is actually going on. There are a lot of power systems and wait timers which is annoying, but the absolute most egregious part of this game is how utterly pay-to-win it is. You can have maxed your commanders out at lv. 50 and have decent troops and gear, but if you go against someone who’s spent a bunch of money on this game, you’re going to lose and you’re barely going to make a scratch in their forces. It’s frustrating enough that I may just quit because it happens at least twice a day for me. It’s not fun waiting 7 hours to have enough troops to form 5 decent armies only to have all 5 of them get one-shotted the moment I get to the battlefield because Winston spent $23,000 on mommy’s credit card.

This game would be fantastic. Until the developers region lock Russia the community within the game will remain toxic and feel hostile. I have played on 6 servers so far and in 5 of them most of the “English speakers” or non Russian players have left in search of a new server or stopped playing the game in general. I have personally left 5 servers because of it and am now on my 6th. It’s just another repeated problem on my current one. Russian players are actively working together in other factions within the game to only target and ruin the experience of playing the game for non Russian speakers. I for one will not be playing or putting anymore more or time into this game. I started playing the day this was released and now will stop playing.

I actually love this game. But I’m giving it one star because there’s is a game breaking bug, the report button is broken. There is a blatant white supremacist on my server and I’ve been reporting him for weeks and the managers just think it’s fine. He’s naming forts “white power” and the n word, but apparently this company doesn’t mind that. Also as soon as you get into season 2 it becomes pay to win. The only people who mean anything in fights are the ones who have spent 3000 or more on this game, it’s just not worth it

Not fun.. I haven’t played in a while, but was in the mood for some Middle-Earth and found that this was still the only ME based game on mobile. In truth, I’m sure it has its market and players that enjoy it, but I find myself returning to games with actual character-driven stories like The Third Age on PS2. Square has been porting all their older games onto mobile as has Sonic and GTA, so maybe it’s time that LOTR did the same? I’d pay money for that. But this game just doesn’t sell for me. It’s too “niche”, complicated, and micro. Give me a game with characters, personality, world-building and exploration. Heck, even RuneScape has a mobile version; get LOTR Online one. I’d play that every day.

Cash Grab. The game limits you extremely hard to push you to buy enhancements with money. The queues and length of waiting requires doesn’t even allow you to enjoy the game. The game is meant to make you wait for long periods till you crack and spend stupid amounts of money for TEMPORARY speed boosts. The game offers no fun except the grind of waiting hours, but they give you a boost for 24hrs when you first start so you get hooked, then you have to deal with even longer queues after that ‘newcomers’ boost. Thank you devs for just creating a game that coerces people into spending loads of money to just play a game, or waste their time to play the game freely. If they offered permanent enhancements i could understand, but temp boosts? goodbye.

Don’t waste time or money. Sadly, the developers of the game continue to reduce any feature that made it worth your time and money. Last night was the last straw for me and many others despite the investment. They started with a game with fantastic dynamics and play. The lore and attempt to stay true to anything Tolkien was weak and more annoying, but the game at its core was strong. They have and continue to whittle down features and dynamics to make more money albeit in subtle ways that some players hardly notice until 6 updates later they realize the value to spend ratio has significantly changed. It’s really quite sad. This last update severely impacted any player that started their new season when the developers wanted them to. And when the criminal robbery from them occurred they (the devs) basically held up a middle finger to us. That was my final straw. Cheers everyone. Stop finding these communists.

Fun but unbalanced. I love the game, it’s not pay to win like most other mobile games but the only issue I don’t like abt it is that the Evil factions don’t really have much in the troop department they are basically all soft units that don’t deal a lot of damage like other factions units and every other faction has multiple tanks while the evil on the other hand has 1 which is the trolls but then you have the other factions units that negates our only tanks which gives a unfair advantage in combat which then you tried to make up with siege units that are basically useless if you haven’t cleared all the troops that were already there in the first place which I would normally be ok with if I believe we should have a less of a siege defuff instead of the normal -70%

Exactly what I was looking for. Ever since the old LOTR games there has been a distinct lack of LOTR games in recent year. Luckily, I think I have stumbled along one of the highest quality mobile games I’ve seen in a long time, while at the same time being in the LOTR style. I truthfully think they did an excellent job with balancing the immersion and strategic aspects of the game. Added on top of that the lack of bugs and crashes has been brilliant so far. I think as time progresses we will see how late game commences, yet as of now I am loving the grind and strategy involved in capturing high power land. I would definitely recommend this game if you have been looking for a high quality LOTR game.

Pay to Play 100%. Game is deceptive in their marketing and not fair to players who don’t dump loads of money into the game. Started the game the day it came out, within that first week other players obtained very rare heroes and maxed them out as well as their army. These players went on to have an insane advantage later on and made the game very lopsided. This ruined the game for me and a lot of other players. Not a fun game when you really can’t do anything at all and a select few control the server….. I’ve seen other reviews about it being a TEAM oriented game, that’s simply not true, you get kicked out of alliances for not dedicating time or performance (Paying money) and when you find one accepting the typical players who don’t want to dump their life savings, it just gets betrayed or whooped by those that do.

Unbalanced. This game is enjoyable, but the main reason I play is the Lore. The server I am in is extremely lopsided. The pay to win in this game is real. It’s disappointing to literally play every day, even spend $30 on it, because you enjoy it and want to support it, just to be owned by a player who has no limit to what they will spend. Due to the way the commanders work, their respect level, and their gear… it makes it almost impossible to come close to being able to stand a chance against some players. You can easily get steamrolled in some of these servers, and my server isn’t the only one where one faction is dominating. Also, keep in mind this game has only been out like 3 weeks, and there are people in the game that already have the best commanders, the best gear, have high respect levels for their commanders. The devs have put their time into the lore, the different types of soldiers and so on.. it really needs a balance overall. I’ve literally played this game every day since the release and my faction is decently active, but the dollar is mightier than the sword.

Developers don’t care about unbalanced play just money. Terrible game I highly recommend walking away. Some ads depict play and it’s not actual game play how foolish to tarnish the LOTR legacy. The development team only cares about money they make unbalanced changes to favor the spending crowd and refuse to listen too the thousands of players saying the same thing. They give free commanders to the evil side that you don’t need to level and have new coms that are unbeatable. It’s so unbalanced it’s a joke. Do not play this game and if you absolutely have too I sincerely suggest you don’t spend money. They get you to spend money and just make an update to make whatever you have worthless in the hopes you spend even more Walk away

Billing messed up. I am liking the game, however getting help from CS is tough and the interface is not great. I noticed that when you buy things from the in game store it seems to be consistently mischarging. So for example if you want the daily mathom item which is priced at 1.99 dollars and gives you 2 tokens, it charges you 4.17 usd. I understand a tax being added, but this feels like 2x the price plus tax. So instead of getting the advertised 100% bonus of 2 tokens for 1.99, you spend 1.99 twice. Same with gem purchases, it adverts a first time purchase bonus of extra gems, but it’s really just charging you multiple times. So a 4.99 gem purchase with bonus gems costs you 16+ usd dollars. This feels unacceptable as a bug an deceptIve and possibly illegal if it’s intentional

Good. Great game, really. Don’t get me wrong, though, I have one complaint; I was looking at the respect for my commanders, and I’m looking through the flawless, on the evil side, and Whoosh! There it hits me; “I don’t have any respect for these commanders, but I know I did!” I’m super angry with this because I had spent a while getting a moderate level of respect for those commanders. If there is anything you can do about this, please let me know. I would very much like to get back the respect, which I have lost. Thank you.

Great game. Honestly I really like the game it can be kinda pay to win but so far I haven’t paid a single cent . I did join a good clan so that is key as well. Honestly like this game more the GOT conquest. Also their chapter book to get rewards which is nice. Then there’s tip tasks which can level up commanders and if lucky get food rewards. Also each troops from different factions counter certain troops. Also I like the idea that u can have other faction troops and commanders. Honestly really like this type game so much better and improvement then most type games like this out there. NEW PLAYER get strong fast as possible and basically u gotta play until u can log in and play every hour or so.

Not Sure How Long This Game Is Gonna Be Around. Good graphics and back story, but that’s all this game has. Game is completely unbalanced. Good side has stronger units and commanders than evil side. And usually once one faction wins one season it continues that way throughout the entire game. Nothing like getting overrun every season to make a guy quit playing. Not to mention that this game like every other “war type” game out there is heavily based on paying to play. If you don’t pay….you don’t play. Simple as that. This isn’t a real video game, there isn’t any talent involved. The only skill you need to play is the ability to swipe a credit or back card. It should be called Lord of the ATM’s. I give it one star rating just because you can’t give a negative star rating or zero star rating. None of these types of games are worth wasting your time or battery life on.

Great game for those who like strategy games. At first I thought this would be one of those cash grab games that every company makes and just re-skins everything. However it isn’t that. It has a massive map of middle earth and has many very unique features. It’s also nice because yes you can kind of pay to win but in reality you can only use the gems you buy to speed things up you can’t buy resources which is awesome. All tile based and about taking territories. Requires a team too and not a solo player.

It is very fun but unfair. The game itself is super fun, however I can literally say how every game ever has gone, and how they will go. Basically Lindon and Mordor absolutely sweep through the map, no one else even has a chance. After that Mordor proceeds to destroy Lindon and win. That’s how it goes everytime. I’m not necessarily sure why, however something needs to be nerfed to give other factions a chance. Like the dwarves, Lothlorien, and Gondor have a good starting position and decent power, but they still get absolutely destroyed every time ever.

Pretty good. Legit the only game that attempts to combat the whales being able to harass and bully anyone who doesn’t spend, you can’t attack from a certain range from your castle or your fort and you’re basically only put near those in your alliance (Gondor, Rohan etc.) you can betray but it’s not a good idea as you’d just be in hostile territory with no support as you’re now allianceless and all on your own against the entirety of your old alliance. You can teleport but there’s no where to go that you won’t be attacked. So all in all it’s like other base builders but with very restricted systems on attacking others unless it’s the end of the season and you’re going all in on the enemy to control the ring of power which is also a cool idea having a war at the end of every season

Good but wipes out progress every season.. So I have just started playing the game and I absolutely love it. The experience and interaction with other players as well as the skill base progression instead of pay to play is great… now the downside is, all the progress that she make within a season of this game is totally wiped out save a few features your heroes. All the armies and units you unlock are absolutely erased… this makes playing the game unattractive to players Who played hard for what they earn or build. Won’t be playing this long. Epic fail for such a good feel of a game. Gameplay= awesome 🏆👍🏾 progress reset = trash 🗑 defeats the purpose👎🏾

This could be a great game. I’m not normally frustrated with how games operate and I’m sure I’m probably not playing right; however, there are simple things that really bother me. I have two commanders that are level is between 35 and 40 with more then enough power to subdue territory and im still defeated i attack again with two other commanders when the enemy is low and health and im defeated once again. This said enemy is lower in level then my armies it should be an easy sweep and it’s not. The conscription time for armies is absolutely ridiculous taking hours to conscript. Resources are slow to obtain and the balance is way off. If you play be aware that you aren’t going to get anywhere once you get to higher levels or you invest a lot of money into it.

Like the game, wish I could play with friends. Game is fine. I’ve enjoyed playing it so far and I’ve been having a fun time. The problem is a friend of mine wanted me to play with him so I downloaded it and we got put in different servers. Good news is you can switch servers! The really bad news is you have to completely, utterly, 100% restart if you switch servers. That is extremely lame and has made both of our interests drop since that wasn’t ever explained until it was too late. If I could switch servers, would up to 4 stars. I’m even trying to move to an earlier server, which means I wouldn’t be moving to a new one with brand new players but people who were playing longer.

Great but not perfect. This game is by no means a bad game. I get to scratch both my Age of Empires and Lord of the Rings itches. However, it is not the game that is advertised. It’s not some cinematic role playing game that lets you put your own spin on the classic lord of the rings tale. It’s fun to play. I wish it didn’t require you to wait for hours at times to just build a new building. Or that the upgrades that can be sallied to your armies were so minuscule. All that being said, I’m still playing and I am excited to see if the devs listen to fans and see how the game evokes over time.

Not for casual players. My experience went from 5 to 1 Star in the last week. I am a casual player. I go on twice a day general for about 10 minutes at a time. Mainly downloaded because I love the books and movies. In the last week had another player 5 times stronger than me starting taking my land tiles. Every time I log on I have lost 10 to 30 tiles a day. Maybe you can have setting that will limit the number of tiles a player can take from another or set it that a player can only attack equal strength sized armies. I will be deleting this game. I had fun the first couple of weeks and enjoyed the play. But it has lost its fun now that I can’t gain and maintain land tiles with this other player taking it faster than I can play. Thank for the great idea of a game

Whale player here. Honest review.. I’ve spent more money than I could possibly have ever imagined paying for a game. This game sucked me in with deceptive social media adds showing fake gameplay. Nevertheless I found the game interesting and the community fun to play with. However, the deeper down the rabbit hole you get the darker it gets. This game is absolutely riddled with predatory micro transactions and loot boxes that take gambling to an extreme. After several months of this the cost adds up from the psychological tactics they exploit. Do you get what you pay for? Absolutely not. The game balance is dismal, support is virtually non existent even for someone who spent a small fortune. The developer is slow to roll out any changes and forget ever having your feedback taken into consideration. My advice is to steer very far away from micro transaction games. This was a hard lesson.
