Fast, customizable. I switched to HACK after an update to HN broke my old reader. It has been fast and reliable, and has many options to customize the display.

Very nice reader!. It has all of the functionality I want (including customization options, like disabling favicons, which I find distacting). I'm very happy with this reader. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is that the apps performance (scrolling, navigation) suffers greatly when the app is in macOS full screen mode. Hopefully this is something the developer will look into for a future update! Thanks again!

Smooth, easy to use, and clean.. Very nice HN app. Interface and use are nicely designed and easy to use. Articles populate quickly and there’s no lag opening or reading.

A gem of an app. This app is designed with iOS design patterns in mind and is a joy to use, kind of like Apollo for Reddit. I don’t pay for an app unless I really think the developer deserves it and I think I’m gonna bite the bullet and purchase the premium for this one.

Fantastic app. I don’t usually leave reviews but this is the one app where the one time purchase was the best thing I’ve ever done. The app is so smooth, looks beautiful, and has a ton of customization. I’d highly recommend this app to anyone interested in reading hackernews on their iPhone.

Great support from the developer. My go to reader for HN. App was broken by a recent change and they had a fix out within bours.

It's ok. It's ok. Does literally what it's supposed to, though I'm spoiled by all of the amazing UX of Apollo. But! It hard freezes ALL. THE. TIME. In a short session I have to kill the app three or four times. Boooooo.

The best iOS HN client. Only app I’ve reviewed. This one is good. It’s really clean, intuitive, & full featured, and it is ad free. Honestly this is how iOS apps should be. Absolutely an upgrade to the website on a mobile device. EDIT. I have been reading HN more lately, and I thought “this app is great, it feels wrong not to buy it considering how much I use it.” So I went to purchase it, and… I ALREADY BOUGHT IT some time ago. Yes people, it is that good.

The most advanced app I’ve seen with great support. After checking out more then 5 different apps HACK ended up being the winner. BONUS - I stumbled on a bug where “procrastination feature” would result in blank pages, developer was very responsive and added feature to roadmap.

The best HN reader for iOS. Hack is a featureful, intuitive, and fast HN reader that does everything I need and more. The developer is super responsive to feedback and actually implemented a feature I requested (ability to change the default web browser) within a day or two. Amazing! Highly recommended app, I suggest if you enjoy it to purchase the $4.99 in-app purchase to support further development. The app’s value far exceeds this cost.

The Best Hacker News reader. After the 1.4 update every complaint I had with this app is addressed. By far my favorite way to read hacker news.

Great app, even greater developer. Quality of app is great, has all the features that I need. Communication with developer is quick and I could tell he really cares about the app.

Probably the best for HN, still lacking. No doubt this is the best HN app I’ve used but it doesn’t hold a candle to something like Apollo which I consider(ed) the gold standard for a link aggregator client. Tap targets are way too small, must but almost half of what the HIG recommends. I find it infuriating to try to tap the “…” or upvote button only to have it collapse the thread and rinse and repeat 3-10 times before it works. Reply notifications and logged in status in general is extremely buggy. I randomly get logged out so I’ll be browsing, go to upvote, and get a generic error. It’s at this point I’ll notice the “Downvote” option is missing but the app will still show me logged in. Sometimes the only fix is to kill the app and/or log out/in again. Similarly, clicking on the bell/notification icon will randomly tell me “You haven’t enabled reply notifications” which is a setting I’ve never toggled off, yet it gets toggled off on me without any action on my part. The app works well overall but interacting with posts and the inconsistent/buggy auth status drive me bonkers.

Excellent app by an awesome developer.. I’ve loved this app ever since I started using, easily the best way to consume hacker news content on iOS. What really sets it apart for me is the extensive customization to really nail down the experience for its users.

Hitting all the right notes. Good customizability and small details for ease of use. Just the right style of presentation for getting my information diet from HN. The app author is also very responsive to bug/feature feedback. Strongly recommended!

The best client I've tried yet. Holy moly this thing is great. It's pretty good out of the box but I bought the one-time $5 support purchase thing and the customization options are amazing. I've got it down to almost exactly how I want a hackernews client without coding my own. Great job!

The best way to read HN. The app is great. My favorite feature is probably the top level comment navigator. I could go on about the app itself, but the almost immediate hotfixes whenever something breaks? Can’t praise the developer enough.

Best Hackernews app. This is a great HN app with lots of customization ability and the developer is quick to respond and address issues when any arise due to HN backend site changes.

App is breaking too often. Very unreliable. Often loads with a blank page or loads all the links as posted “just now” with no comments and no ability to open comments

Very solid. This is a great app, that has been continually updated. I like the amount of customization that is available. I do think it would benefit from being a little more opinionated in some of its UI choices but overall sits next to Apollo for me as a great indie client for a site I use a lot.

Fantastic App. It’s an app that is well worth the premium version. I love how similar the comments section is to the reddit client Apollo. If that’s your preference, no need to look further. Great app!

Fantastic, fast, friendly!. The HN website is easy enough to use on mobile, but Hack honestly makes it so much more enjoyable. The customization is insane and fits my love of having a bespoke experience. Developer is active and exceptionally fast to respond. If you use HN and like checking it out in your phone you’re doing a disservice not browsing it via Hack.

Best app for Hacker News.. I continue to be impressed by this app. What started out as just a beautiful wrapper for HN has continued to evolve into easily one of the best experiences on iOS for consuming feeds, á la Apollo for Reddit. I have also had great success reaching out to the developer, as others mention. I recently noticed that there is a Share as Image feature, which is one of my biggest uses in Apollo - wow! Works great in HACK too! Easily worth the download and the purchase for premium. A+. Thanks Pranoy!

Best ios hackernews app. This app is the best app for hackernews that I’ve tried on iOS and I’ve tried a couple of them. It’s so good I paid for the pro version and it’s even better with the latest update. I really like all the settings/options. One suggestion I would have though would be adding a right swipe to go back to the previous page(basically the opposite of the left swipe). Apollo has this enabled by default. Another suggestion would be adding the ability to swipe away the long press options or hiding those options behind an overflow menu because I always find myself accidentally long pressing comments and bringing up the menu.

This is a great app.. Delightfully streamlined while also being extremely customizable. This app is such a joy to use.

Just made the switch to this and happy. I’ve been lurking HN for over a decade now and I’d been using one of the older iOS apps for it. It was simple enough. But this app is significantly better, it feels more like it’s “mine” because of the customisations. After lurking for so long, I find this app motivates me to contribute. Totally worth upgrading to pro, even if you don’t need the features. I appreciate the devs 🤓

Great support (follow up to previous review). Updating to a newer version (87) fixed my issue! Thank you for the prompt response! Not sure why there was a delay in updating because I have automatic updates turned on but it’s fixed now. Much appreciated, this has become my goto app in the short time I’ve had it!

Good, but small annoyances and one big bug. Overall this app is very good! Thank you for making it. Ok, on to the the things that need to be fixed. First and foremost, sometimes clicking the back button freezes the app and makes me force close and restart before it becomes responsive again. This is super annoying and has happened 7 times in the last 5 minutes. Secondly, this one is less of a major issue but more of an annoyance. It’s really hard to upvote a comment without it collapsing it. I have to try 3-5 times before I actually am able to click the upvote instead of collapsing. Thanks again for the app. Hope these issues can get worked out.

Awesome app. This is the best HN app I’ve found. The developer is super responsive, the app is very well designed, and even the non-premium app is very full featured. I of course recommend going premium to support amazing people like Pran!

Solid and responsive app. I have no major gripes with this app. It's a fine way to browse Hacker News. I recommend it! The only real complaint I have is I often collapse comments on accident, since all you have to do to do this is tap them.

The best HN client. I collected all HN clients over the years and nothing get close to HACK. If I may ask, the only addition that would make it even better is highlighting text so that I could export elements to Readwise.

Best so far. No purchase needed, no ads. Probably will pay the $5 to support the dev, though, because this kind of functionality is rare for ios apps without either ads or in-app purchases. Quite the hidden gem. Lots of settings to choose from. I especially like being able to select the text of a comment to copy by long-pressing on a comment, and from there, there are a lot of options, including copying the text as a whole, or selecting a certain part of the text as it pops up with the options. Now will look for other apps made by this dev! Edit: decided to purchase, it’s worth it

5 stars until the app froze. Tried a few hacker news clients, this one was most intuitive to use. Gave it 5 stars until the app froze after sending a few links to the browser. Hopefully the problem will get resolved soon.

The best HN client. After spending years with a now unmaintained app I tried out several clients for Hacker News, this came out on top. It's highly customisable, quick to load and the dev is very helpful.

Great full featured HN client. Been using this app for a fair while now, and it’s the best hacker news app I’ve tried. When I had issues with the app due to some breaking changes made by HN, the developer was very responsive and had a fix update out as soon as they could.

Excellent. Basically Apollo for Reddit, but Hacker news. Only missing feature I’ve found is inability to downvote.

No better way to read HN. Ive been using Hack on my iPhone and iPad for quite a while now as its just a great way to read HN. Last year supported the developer by purchasing in app premium. Now, June 2022, the app was taking ages to load on my iPad and quite often failing back to the home sceen. Quick conversation with the developer and all fixed. Now we need a tipping option to support him further!

This app just keeps getting better and better. I’ve used Hack from the beginning and its progress to being the best Hacker News client has been impressive.

Excellent work on this app!. Getting to test dark mode and custom fonts on first launch of the free version is super smart. Played with the fonts, sounds, and logged in to read a bunch of stories and comment pages. Realized a half hour later that I hadn’t left the app and bought the IAP. I like low contrast titles on, and swipe to vote off for back-swipe functionality. Customizable title text sizes on the Home etc view would be great, they can be a little large. Thanks for this great app!

Great app.. The app itself is really well designed. Great ergonomics and has a tendency to “stay out of your way”— it just does what you need it to do. Shows a great deal of attention to detail by the dev. Furthermore— the dev; I wrote an email to him with some feedback asking for a feature to be added. He got back to me day-of, agreed that the feature sounded good, and told me that he would add it in a future update. Less than a week later, he sent me another email letting me know that the feature was finished and would be released in the next update the app receives. I can’t help but give five stars with that sort of customer service. Really phenomenal. When was the last time you remember recommending a feature to some company and having it finished and implemented (in staging) by the end of the work week? Really awesome. Also, I tried all the other HN apps out there, this one beats all the others in terms of design ergonomics and overall quality. Great work Pran! Thanks :)

Phenomenal. Not only is this the best iOS HN client, it is significantly better than the default HN experience - using a web browser on a desktop. This app adds SO MUCH functionality, which makes it much easier to surface and consume good content. I’ve tried 5-6 other HN iOS clients and hack is far and away the best.

Hack is hackernews app. Hackernews is where the dinosaurs gather to discuss the tech. I am the dinosaur. Hack is the app that makes it easy and pleasant to engage the hackernews. The website hasn't been updated since forever BECAUSE WE ARE DINOSAURS AND WE LIKE It tHAT WAY. But my eyes aren't what they used to be. So I like this app. I use it on mobile and desktop.

Best Hacker News App. This is the best Hacker News app I’ve used so far. Support has been amazing too. I had a couple of questions and the developer emailed me back in very short time to answer my questions. Looking forward to what else is going to be done with this app but it’s very complete so far.

Superb with active developer. I also like how it opens articles in readermode, and can edit your font size. I would tell the dev to increase the font size, default size and spacing are really bad. My settings: 5 comment paragraph spacing 8 title font size 6 text font size 5 username size 12 padding size 25 comment indentation size Dark mode
