U.S. Open AR App Reviews

Crap!. Load the app, open it, it asks to access my camera, I grant access and then nothing happens. Just see a view out of my camera. Tells me to tap “the grid” but there is none. Can’t believe Deloitte is responsible for something so useless.

Installation Failed. After opening, the app asks for camera permissions, but you can’t grant permission because the app isn’t listed in settings.

Don’t waste your time. This is ridiculous don’t bother point at flat surface? Can’t see players what a joke

Not ready. My guess is that they were scrambling to get this app ready for the U.S. Open. It is not in a usable state. You just can't seem to follow any player that makes sense. You don't seem to see any statuses of what's happening on a particular hole. So it's just kind of worthless

Doesn’t work. No live or review player shot features work on iPhone 11. You can see 360 of Torrey Pines Lodge-whopee. Junk

More Vaporware. Really? Early screens “Tap on Grid” before app has presented the grid. “point at a flat surface”? Like a wall, flat table etc, and still the error message persists. If you find an acceptable surface, select a hole, select a player, you DO see a black screen, animated stick figure “walking.” So how do you see a real player anyway? How do you view a simple flyover should you want to see the hole, sans players?? Yet another app, all broken promises, complexity killing basic utility. Shame on USGA and Deloitte.

Brings my US Open Experience to Life. This app is awesome! Love that I’m able to see and track players in a digital way in addition to doing player comparisons. Great job all around.

Waste of time. Really not sure the intention of the app. If what they produced is considered desirable and user-friendly then I’m missing something. Complete waste of time and effort.

App is difficult to close. This app takes control of your phone and cannot be closed easily. Be careful. Do not open it if you need your phone.

Confusing at best. To follow players in AR mode lacks any uniformity. You can only see them standing there and not see them hit, the. They appear at next spot. Interaction is sub-par and not worth the time and effort to use it.

Stuck at “Allow us opener access to camera screen”. iOS apps have to request camera access before it can be granted, so this app is not even on the app list for camera, and also not listed in settings. Not well thought out, and since I can’t get past that screen, worthless. Update: The above issue is on and continues to be an issue for my iPad Air 2. On iPhone 11, the app does request camera access and I’m able to click OK so it continues to the next screen. For those that can’t close it, it closes from the side, not the bottom.

Read your reviews and fix this. App asks you to aim your camera at a flat surface then does nothing. To bad they don’t read these reviews and fix this.

Update: Works now! (Can only view the lodge at first). Update: Even after deleting an reinstalling, I still had the same issue. Followed the developers request to restart app, and now it works. Thanks! On an iPhone XR with the latest OS, the only thing active is the Lodge 360, even though the tournament is live. Disappointing…

App doesn’t show up to give camera access. I go to settings and open up privacy - I click on camera and it opens showing me apps that have access to the camera. This app does not show up there. Any instructions you could add to make your app useful?

The AD is MUCH BETTER than the APP. Watched the ads multiple times as they Interrupted my watching the US open- so I finally downloaded it and tried it out - Not really too good- I was just expecting something kinda cute to play while watching the tournie - amd it’s pretty worthless - not sure what the AR is supposed to do - think I would just overlaid some Google earth graphics or not wasting my money if I was Deloitte Oddly - I now have a lesser impression of Deloittes quality or service level now that I’ve tried their app - seriously , not well tested but whoever they hired to do this overly basic - not really cool app CLASSIC CONSULTING PROJECT - promo looks great - but functionality NOT UP TO PAR!!

What a miss by USGA. You have an app that only works for 2022??? You develop all this tech and then don’t update for 2023? Why is it even on the App Store now…so dumb.

Love seeing AR getting the attention.. As a Dir. of Marketing for a 3D studio, having this type of exposure for the tech is fantastic! Love the app, great job!!!

Locked on Camera!. What I gave the app permission to access my camera that’s all that I could see a camera the screen was completely in operative I’m totally disappointed by this

Not ready for prime time. Not up to par for golf's premier event. UX, graphics, views, data...too many issues to detail. Please invest in much greater development for 2022.

Augmented reality? what a laugh!. About as close to augmented reality as Super Mario. Retro hokey at best, a blatant shame at worst. This might have been cool… in the 60s.

After start grid issue, this app is great!. I don’t know how I got passed the ‘start grid’ message, but high flummoxed me before, but somehow I’m passed it and the app is great; love the zooming around the course.

Non-starter. The app never launches an AR view. It tells you to print the target then lay it on a flat surface then point your camera at the target to begin the experience. Having done that, there is only a display of two instruction steps that repeat essentially the above. NO LAUNCH OCCURS! Have deleted the app. Good idea, but poor implementation!

Not Really!. This could and should be improved!!! Really pretty bad! Not user friendly at all!

This is a cool AR app. One of the coolest applications I’ve seen for AR on my mobile phone. Novel way to look at both live and historic shots on one of golf’s most iconic courses. Used this app in different places on the course where I found the anchor image.

Worst waste of effort I have ever seen. They obviously put in significant work to develop this. Tried to make it work. The best I could get was awkward. Deleted it after 10 minutes. Get 10 minute of your life back and DON’T DOWNLOAD!

Worst app I have ever used. Took awhile to download on my new iPad Pro and then you have to stand over a printed picture the whole time to get the app to open at all and then it does nothing. I understand technology but this app is a HUGE waste of time. No instructions and it does nothing. I can’t believe someone thought it was a good idea to stand over a piece of paper for hours to get an app to work. Fire everyone involved with this project. Thankfully my Masters app works awesome for next year Masters. Hire that group immediately.

Useless. Says tap grid and zoom in to start. Nothing happens. Not sure if I’m supposed to watch the tournament through my camera.

Locked on Camera. App asks for access to camera. Once the app opens, it is locked on the camera with a prompt to tap surface grid to start experience. However, there is no surface grid- only camera. Have tried deleting and reinstalling with no success.

Can’t get it to work. When first opened, the app asks that I go to settings and allow it to use the camera, but the app never shows up in the settings as indicated by the instructions. Can’t get past that first screen on iPad. The developers suggestion to restart does NOT solve the problem.

Us open at. Worst app ever and once opened it’s impossible to leave without doing a hard reset. Deloitte has proven they are incompetent in yet another area:(

No good. App doesn’t even get a chance to begin because it wants me to enable the camera first, but settings does not have “tap us open AR” to be found in settings, so app never starts up. I will delete the app.

Never opens. App never opens on IPad. Just shows Wingfoot logo then crashes out. Poor written app or at least poorly tested.

Doesn’t work. I see many reviews indicating a fundamental flaw in the app regarding the camera. Did you not even test this before release? How about acknowledging that and answering to these comments.

Nice gimmick but the technology isn’t really there yet. Very clumsy to zoom in and out and move around the course. Players often seem stalled in place. But it was fun to try

What a waste of time. Seriously? Same problem as everyone else. Asks to enable camera, lay on flat surface, just shows my camera and says to tap on grid which of course there is no grid to tap on. Hope Deloitte is happy spending all that money in advertising for such a waste of time. LAME!!!!

Have to load each hole to watch recap?. I like that you can pick players and watch a recap of their shots, but unnecessarily tedious since (as far as I can tell) you can’t just move to the next hole, you have to manually select the next hole then manually reload all the players you want to watch for recap, rinse, repeat... AR mode is kind of neat otherwise.

The future looks great. This is a great way to get updates on a golf event ... great idea and execution ... keep them coming

No leaderboard?. Nice to see the course layout but need another way to see the current leaderboard

Great idea, but doesn’t work.. I’m honestly not sure it works. It continuously asked me to point my camera at a flat surface, then you also need to move the camera around. So you need to live in a world full of flat surfaces because anything that isn’t flat breaks the AR. It would be great if you can just download it and didn’t need the camera.

Can’t open app. On first open of the app, I am prompted to go to Setting and enable the Camera for this app. That setting is not available and I can’t open the app without this change. Help!

A double bogey. Completely non-intuitive navigation and poor explanations

Winged foot Virtual App. Find a flat surface, done. Click on grid and pinch to see course. No grid, no players list, no course grid. Does not work.

Couldn’t get it to work. I tried several times to get this to work on my iPad Pro but it was a waste of time. I like PGAtour.com tourcast 3D much better, but it appears they have it sidelined for this event 😡
