Great app to manage playlists on the fly. I’ve been using playlists to manage subsets of music for years and lacked the way to manage them from my device. I especially like that you can mix playlists together and group tracks within, again on the fly. Interface is smooth. Developer is responsive to email and feedback. Another great app from Mike Clay, just like Cs Music!

Idea!. Hey can you create the option in the smart playlists to select “playlist” for the rule. Sometimes when I’m finding music for a playlist I like to set it up the where I can all the music that’s not in that playlist so I’m not adding repeats

Great for running lists by bpm. I like to run on a certain pace and Mixium is the best source of ever refreshing playlists with exactly the right pace. Just one request: can you let us sort a list by ascending bpm? That would help to warm up in the beginning and run ever faster after.

Excellent app. Nice mixes and customizable. I like the mixes from this app opposed to the standard iPhone music app. The only things I see some room for improvement is the way to go to the next song. I’m not a big fan of holding down to change songs. Another feature I’d like to see is a full view along while playing and changing songs.

BrianD. Smart, randomized playlist don’t exist on the iPhone. With this app...they finally do. I can play three random songs. Or three random Christmas songs if I add genre as a criteria. Or seven random songs to fall asleep to. I used to use a jukebox program on my PC and would toss 25 cents in a piggy bank as I played three songs, and used the piggy bank to fund my hobbies. I can now do that with my iPhone and Bluetooth speakers. Thanks for this!

Awesome!!! Gives us what’s been missing on iOS. The missing mix master we all need. A nice companion to Cesium Player (Cs Music). Incredible control for on the fly playlists. App is great. As the title says the app is great, I have been using it for a while and it doesn't disappoint. It's easy to create smart playlists and the formatting of the app is good. The only reason I am not leaving a 5-star review is there is no rule to prevent duplicating songs from appearing in a playlist.

May become my new default player. I was among the fearful that figured smart playlists would go away with Catalina and iOS 13. I have invested quite a bit of time into rating songs to feed those playlists so being able to create and manage them on iOS is a dream come true. I also appreciate some of the smaller details like being able to view playlists as albums which you can’t do on Apple Music. Great work so far!

Play Count/Last Played Not Working. I really like the premise of this app, and the “smart playlist” logic appears to work pretty well. Unfortunately, the app does not appear to be tracking Play Counts or Last Played dates. I’m seeing this issue in reviews for this developer’s other app, too. This would be a 5 star app if those features were working since it definitely brings MacOS “smart playlist” features to iOS. I will update my review once the dev fixes this issue. Looking forward to fully utilizing the power of this app!

Excellent App, Just What I Was Looking For. I have been looking to create dynamic/smart playlists on iOS for years. After tons of fighting with synching between macOS Music/iCloud Music/iOS, I finally found Miximum. It was everything I wanted. The rules engine is fantastic, and allows for complex playlist to be created very easily. My only suggestion would be to add a rule that allows you to set the total count for an Artist. For example, I have one playlist (Metallica) that feeds into a larger playlist. Because the Metallica playlist has so many more songs, I would like to limit the number of songs from them in the new playlist. There might be a way to do this by combining different rules, but I haven’t been able to figure it out yet. That small suggestion aside, this is the best $1.99 I have spent on the App Store in years. Well worth it.

If you don’t like apple’s “random” playlist shuffle, this is the app for you.. I’ve found that Apple Music, instead of playing all of the music in a playlist randomly one at a time, opts to play the same 50-70 songs over and over. If you want to hear every song in your playlist, this is the app for you.

Still a must have app!. Do you have that one app that you literally can’t do without, the one that keeps you from migrating from apple. This is that App for me. Its purpose is plain and simple take a set of rules from the user and apply them to a vast music collection and make a “smart” playlist that easily updates depending on how it’s set up. I use it to easily switch up songs from my own collection of several thousand tracks, but where it gets really interesting to me is in the time since I first picked up the app the developer has added a function so you can tell it to combine playlists from the apple community that other people are updating. So In essence I have created several genre playlists that automatically add new music from other users, and knows my favorites mixes them together and then keeps the individual tracks from repeating within 4 weeks to 6 months depending on my personal preferences… I used to create playlists by hand and the time I’ve saved with this app is a true life saver!

Started out great… but no longer works at all!. I first got this app because I wanted a way to make smart playlists on my phone, since I had to use a computer otherwise. It started out brilliantly, just a few minor bugs that were easy to look past. I made tons of playlists and enjoyed creating them all. But now, after a while of having the app- I can no longer make playlists. No matter what I attempt to do, no songs show up in the playlists I’ve been trying to create- they just come out blank. I’ve tried to make multiple playlists in the span of about 2 months, but no matter when or how I try… it just doesn’t work. I’d love for this to be fixed so I can get back to making playlists and create some that I’ve been meaning to make for a while!! Otherwise, without this issue, the app would be pretty close to perfect. A good 4.5 stars.

Great App and even Greater support!!!. The mix creations and options are awesome and provide so many possibilities. I’ll never be short on custom playlists. When I initially downloaded this app I was having an issue getting my playlists to import into my Apple Music. I reached out to the developer who contacted me Immediately and RESOLVED the issue for me. He is prompt, courteous and a great app developer! Thank you Mike!

One of my most used apps. Love this app. Fills a basic and much needed gap in Apple Music’s missing features. Super easy to set up and highly configurable, I thoroughly recommend Miximum. Would love to see Apple Watch compatibility since I use my watch for music any time I’m active.

Great app! 2 requests please. Since Apple has totally screwed up smart playlists, Miximum is the closest thing out there to replacing them. I have 3 requests, I think are small-ish.? 1. Please add ‘Song Release Date’ as a Sort option when making/updating a playlist. 2. Add a secondary sort option on Playlists also. 3. Add an option to run the query for a playlist again and transfer / replace the playlist in Apple Music automatically. (Or enable Siri Shortcuts so it can be automated). Add those and I’ll happily give a sizable tip! Thanks for a great backup option to Smart Playlists in iTunes!

A “Download All” Solution. If you’d like a way to download all songs on your Apple Music library without using a Mac, use this app to create a smart music containing all music (duration is not 0min, you’ll know what I’m talking about), then import the playlist in Apple Music, then download the playlist inside Apple Music app. You’re welcome ;)

Filling a useful niche. As someone with years’ worth of accumulated metadata I have always got a lot of value out of the smart lists from this app, but I think a good test of its value is that my kids, who don’t necessarily care that “old school” tuning of information, also really like being able to build dynamic playlists.

Like Smart Playlists from ITunes!!. I’ll never understand why Apple doesn’t offer smart playlists in the Music app on iPhone and iPad, but this app is the next best thing. It allows you to organize playlists by pre-specified criteria. Tired of manually adding all your new music to a playlist?...just create a Miximum playlist with “recently added music” as a requirement. You can even export as a “dumb” playlist to the Apple Music app. Really helpful for those of us with exceedingly large music libraries!

Mostly good. URL scheme to play a mix seems to always shuffle tracks. Create a list with all tracks. Then group by Album and sort list Random. Plays fine from within the app, but calling the /play?src=mixname shuffles the individual tracks within the album when playing.

Everything I was looking for. Thanks for making this. Big fan of C's Music, and now this one has scratched a long-time itch. Finally I can make smart playlists without syncing my phone every five minutes. Thanks again, keep up the fantastic work.

Nice!. This is an excellent companion app to whatever music app you happen to use. It provides functionality that the Apple music app lacks. You can create a smart playlist on the fly. The Apple music app has some issues when playing smart playlists in shuffle mode. This app circumvents those issues by submitting a static playlist to Apple, which you can then rearrange, add to or subtract from.

Fills many gaps in the default app. It can’t do everything the desktop apps allow but it does a ton of things the default iOS app can’t. If I’m listening to a playlist, it was probably created and/or launched from Miximum.

Finally, smart playlists on my iPhone!. Tired of hearing the same old songs when you shuffle with Apple Music? Then get this app. You can make smart playlists that only play songs you haven’t heard in a long time, or so many other choices. Thank you for making this happen!

My go-to app for rule-based playlists. Miximum offers the closest functionality I’ve seen to the smart playlists from iTunes. Combined with the the iTunes playlist export option, this is my go-to app for building complex, rule-based mixes on iOS from my 20,000+ song music collection.

Terrific idea but big flaw currently. Love what this app does in regards to combining playlists but it currently is not and will not save the created playlists to my Apple Music account. It saved one playlist I created in the app but now none of my other 5 created playlists will show up in Apple Music. If this gets fixed it’s definitely a 5 star app Update: Correcting this review to 5 stars. Totally user error as I have now figured out how to export the created playlists to Apple Music. Awesome app and not easy work as this developer has no competition in this arena currently. Great work!

Beautiful Smart Playlists. VERY clever app that adds a smart-playlist layer on top of Apple Music. Very useful as-is to, say, shuffle any song I’ve ever Loved. It could use some helper text or more hand-holding when adding rules, though. Sometimes all I get is a text field and I have no idea how to write the kind of rule I want to write. OH. Big feature request: Support context menus on items (long-pressing) to Play Next and Play Later. Maybe Share too if possible with the API. Why not?

Neat little app. Would love to see a few usability improvements and would pay extra for a Carplay interface. When I'm building the playlists there's no button to say "I'm Done" or "Save". I figured it out eventually by swiping it down but thought I was going to lose my progress. Also, not sure if there's limitations but would love to have a Carplay app to launch.

Held back by some system limitations. UPDATED: With further testing I’ve learned more about when the ‘last played’ data fails to update. When I use a single set of headphones, or the built-in device speaker, or a single airplay speaker, everything works as expected. Hooray! But when I use two airplay speakers together, which is my normal household setup, the last-played dates never seem to update. That sounds like a problem with Apple’s systems, and not this app. ORIGINAL: I’m disappointed. I used this app to create a “Recently Played” playlist, based on the rule: “Last played within the last six months.” The playlist included exactly the songs I expected it to. Then I used the Apple Music app to play an album I hadn’t played in a year. Minutes or days later, those songs are still missing from the Miximum playlist. The app is much less useful to me if the playlists don’t update automatically. And the app description suggests that they should. It’s disappointing.

Like old iTunes Used to Make. I used to love making smart playlists and fun mixes on iTunes, back when I’d sync my iPod almost daily to make sure I had the most current version of mi library. As Apple has encouraged users to stop docking over the years that fell by the wayside, and I was left with only basic playlist control. Now Miximum is here and it works in tandem with Apple Music to help me get some of that feeling back. It’s an attractive app that does a good job and I feel confident it will get even better over time.

Best mix creation app in the game!!. I first have to say that I almost never go out of my way to write a review unless I really stand by the product. This is definitely an app that everyone should be using. Especially if you’re like me and enjoy coming up with different angles to mixing music together. What Miximum is able to do is something I’ve always wanted on my phone. Being able to create random mixes on the fly with so many rules to customize its outcome is really a beautiful thing. Mike is clearly putting a lot of work into this app. So thanks for putting Miximum out there! It’s a game changer!!

Cool extension to the stock music app!. This is really cool! As I have a local music library that has pretty much matured, this app does exactly what I need so I don't have to keep relying on itunes to manage my playlists. This is basically a work-around that offers the same functionality as itunes smart playlists. I recommend getting the trio of apps, cs, mix and play tally. Mind you my local music library is over 200 gb, so this makes it much easier to manage. Kudos to the devs!

Excellent App. I love the interface and the novel play/skip interface. Excellent app that helps add much needed functionality to Apple Music. My only note to the developer would be to try an implement a way to sync the playlists you make back into Apple Music, if possible. 🤘

Works well with a clean, consistent design. I’m honestly surprised how great this app is. The UI is decluttered and consistent with Apple Music’s. It’s snappy and fits right into the ecosystem. The customization it gives you for playlists is unlike any other app I’ve found. There is definitely room for improvement (re-ordering rules, duplicating groups, etc) but this app is one of the main reasons I’m sticking with Apple Music instead of switching to Tidal, for example. It was so tedious manually adding songs to the several playlists they belong to, now all I have to do is add a song to my library and it’s automatically sorted into the correct mixes. As mentioned, it is definitely not without its flaws, but it’s for sure the best for what I’m looking for, as far as I’m aware. Definitely worth the couple bucks.

Convenient, personalized music player. Miximum makes creating mixes a breeze, and it does it well. The interface is clean and simple, you can customize mixes to be whatever you want, and it simply works! If you’re a music fanatic that likes to create playlists for any occasion, Miximum is your go-to app. Why not give it a try? It’s free! (At least at the time of this review.) As a side note, the developer is active in keeping this app up to date and listening to feedback he receives, so that’s always a plus. Thanks for making and updating this app, Mike!

Helpful, but shuffle doesn’t work for large libraries. My main reason for getting this app was to consolidate music “in my library” with music “not in my library” (since my experience with the Apple Music app has been buggy and incomplete). First I tried just selecting “All Music” which (after a few minutes of waiting) generated a playlist of 110,000 songs, which means that part worked! Sadly when I hit the shuffle button, it simply failed to play. I assume this is a bug in Apple Music, not in the app. I was able to use the smart filters to create a 1000 song randomized playlist, though, which means I have a way around it at least by creating a new randomized playlist each session/day. If it was possible to handle this automatically somehow (only open the maximum allowable playlist size in Apple a music when clicking the shuffle button), that would be an improvement, but I assume it isn’t that simple. Thanks for creating a great app! I look forward to seeing what’s in store for the future.

My playlist app of choice.. I drive a lot so having custom, updating playlists is really handy. My personal favorite list is a list that shuffles my entire library but only one song from each artist! I cannot put into words how happy it makes me having this functionality.

One request. I love using this app to play my music at work. I can create multiple playlist and make adjustments on the fly. My one request that I don’t see or can’t figure out, is an automatic way to keep songs with the same title, from the same artist, from duplicating.

Would love an iPad version. For anyone who is looking for more granular control of their Apple Music playlists, Miximum is a no brainer. Mike Clay: Is there any plans to introduce iPad support? I’m able to use the iPhone version on my iPad, but would love nothing more than full support of the extra screen real estate!! Thanks in advance!

Amazing. I use iTunes Match and have love everything about it EXCEPT the lack of smart playlist support. Yes, I can see them and download songs in them, but the logic is not the same as it is on the desktop. This app totally solves that for me. LOVE IT. If you use smart playlists to get fresh music on your phone, this is really the only way to do it (without connecting directly to your pc/Mac).

Great app. Does exactly what is advertised simply and efficiently. My only complaint is that when you sort a playlist, it creates an entire new playlist that doesn’t have a title, description, or picture. I’m not sure if Apple allows apps to change/rearrange song, but if that is possible it really would be nice.

ALMOST what I need. There is a confirmed problem with Alexa and Apple Music, where the shuffle function simply does not work on large lists. This app has the potential to fix my issue once and for all, but needs a couple of tweaks to be perfect, and could be shared as answers on the many thousand thread responses of frustrated Alexa/Apple users. Right now this fixes my issue in a clunky way, in that I can open the app on a regular basis, open my mix, select random for sort again and saved it to a playlist that my Alexa routine calls. This works only AFTER deleting the existing playlist. What the hordes of frustrated Alexa users out there would love to see is a single button or right click to automate the shuffling and OVERWRITE the playlist of the same name in Apple Music. Bonus points for integrating with iOS Automator app to do it in one click! Great work! If you make these changes, I promise to spend some time promoting it for you in the many threads I talked about. That would make it worth much more than $2.99.

Great app! 1.5 introduced a bug though.. Love the app so the new bug hits me pretty hard as it’s rendered it kind of useless for me. When I sort a playlist on genre it will consistently crash the app. If I uninstall and reinstall the app I can view the playlist I want. If I sort it on genre it crashes immediately. If I open the app and try to open the playlist again the app crashes immediately. No transitions, fatal error. If I delete the app and reinstall the sort resets to song and I can open it and do this all over again. A thing I should note is I use non-alpha characters in my genre names, like “Rock/Metal” or “Drum & Bass”.

The missing feature is here!. When Apple shifted to streaming music, they broke the smart playlist feature. Miximum brings it back! It’s easy to understand and works flawlessly. Highly recommended. Update: developer is very quick to help solve problems. Been using it for a long time now, and it is essential!

I like this app.... I do enjoy the simplicity and look. I only wish I could turn off the shuffle function. I’m just annoyed because I pick a playlist but I like to sort songs from date added (from Apple Music). After sorting I just pick a random song and wish it just continue thru the list. At this time after the first song is done it shuffles automatically and I can’t turn turn it off.

Track position. Good concept, but doesn’t do what I need. I’d like one of selection criteria to be track position. Like every first track in an album or every fifth track. Or even better, allow me search for characters in the actual file name. It also seems like this app allows you to have just one mix at a time before you have to pay?

Great App. I was looking for a way to create smart playlists without a computer. This app does this very well. It seamlessly works with your current music library. I’m using the free version but will definitely be sending the $4.99. Not really to remove the ads but because it’s worked very well. 👍

Great App. My initial purpose in getting this app was just to get decent shuffle functionality. Which it does great (not really a mix, but my 1st and only mix for a long time was just my entire library). As others have noted it works great now with Apple Music subscriptions and allows you to create mixes of playlists curated by other people (or AI or whatever). A super easy way to hear the genre you want, the time period you want (most of my mixes have a rule about date released, because music is always changing) randomize your library (or not). I can’t tell if Song Owl or CS is the current player by this same dev, but they both can be called from within Miximum.

Song ratings don’t stick. The ratings functionality doesn’t really work. Probably Apple’s fault, but after rating thousands of songs in Cs Music, most show up again later in my “Unrated” mix. This happens repeatedly, consistently, every day. This functionality was the ONLY reason I bought this app. Would be amazing if it really worked.

Select all, some or one of your artists; cloud or on device; and the have fun with the options. A playlist of songs with ‘and’ in the title; songs less than 3 minutes; more than 20 minutes; a playlist exactly an hour and one minute long. Great App. Just one request. Can you limit the songs in a group? Similar like the smart playlist in Itunes? (Example: limit 25 random, 25 least played, etc.)

Filter playlists. This is a great app. What I would love is the ability to filter out other playlists. I.e. create a playlist which includes songs that aren’t in playlist a, b, and c. I don’t seem to be able to do that.

Brings much missing functionality to iOS!. This app is great to bringing smart playlists to iOS. The app lets you export a static version of the playlist, but doesn’t update it as new music meeting your criteria is added - which means it needs to be re-exported (delete the old playlist from Apple Music, then re-export from Miximum).

Have a smart playlist without Apple Music ♥️. Stop paying for Apple Music for a while, buying each song I like, saved a lot of money. However losing Smart Playlist is my only regret, but this app is my life saver, I’m no longer regret! 👍🏼 Nice job developer!!

Almost great. If the dynamic playlists created in this app could refresh the associated Apple Music playlist regularly (daily, weekly, monthly) then it would be a winner. Right now without that feature it doesn’t meet my needs.

Great on phone, would love CarPlay app. Wild love to be able to start one of these playlists from CarPlay so I don’t have to touch my phone when in the car.

So useful. Pretty amazing app. I love being able to make smart playlists while away from my mac (pretty much all the time). I’d love to be able to duplicate a mix so I can keep one and tweak instead of starting from scratch each time.

Great for Live Playlist Maintenance on the phone. I’ve been using Miximum a lot the past couple of weeks. Great for creating and maintaining ad box playlists.

Awesome app. This is great. It has the nice minimalist interface that Apple has in their official Apple Music app and it can create better “smart” playlists than the Mac app can.

Over rated. Purchased the Pro version and I regret it. For one thing. I created a playlist from the Selections within the app. Look into my list of playlists in iTunes and I could see the new playlist however it is empty. The song selections from the app did not populate the playlist. This app and Smart-playlist does not belong together .

App does not work. I found this app from a YouTube review which must have been paid for because the app doesn’t work at all. All the comments under the video are similar complaints. The music won’t populate the playlist. And the playlist don’t even show up in your music library. Actual garbage money grab

BPM doesn’t work. I’ve been trying to sort by BPM and none of the groupings work, it just gives me the same order of the playlist

BPM Rules Broken?. I bought the app to sort through my music by BPM for exercising. I can't get any simple BPM rules to work (a lot of null results) while it seems other types of simple rules work fine. It'd be a 5 star rating if it worked as it looks like it should for BPM.

Smart Playlists are finally here!. A fantastic app that recreates iTunes smart playlists is now on iOS! I can create custom playlists anywhere, with the added bonus of workflow and Siri shortcuts support. Looking forward to CarPlay and full iPad support.

Where is the pause button?. Why would you not include a pause/play button?

Can’t customize order of playlists. While this app provides a ton of ways to sort songs with a playlist, that’s all it does. Your stuck with the default order of how playlists show up.

Great App with Bad Issues. the app itself is a genius idea, algorithmic playlists, I like that. But the issue is that it is often difficult to transfer these playlists to Apple Music despite paying for that feature.

Issues with “Year, Release Date” & Such. If fixed, would definitely be a 5 star review, but it’s currently impossible for me to use those features

Delete playlists?. I like it, but…is there truly no way to delete a playlist? Why should I have to keep five versions of the same playlist as I update it?

iCloud sync doesn’t work right. Did a restore of my phone and all my mixes are incorrect. I got a ton of 0 song blank mixes and all of my other mixes are missing rules. Reached out to the developer awhile ago (via twitter which is linked as app support) and never got a response.

Great app for controlling your music!. The app is great! The ability to mix playlists and artists with that much ease is great. Only thing I wish I could do is copy a mix to quickly make alternate versions.

Great application. Great application. It works with or without Apple Music subscription. One regret. It is not possible to create a mix by selecting certain music genres. It misses the "And". Do not hesitate to leave a good tip!

What happened. My music library no longer shows up since the new update. This used to be my favorite app. -- Thanks for response. It might help to know I use iTunes Match (or whatever they call it now).

Doesn't do BPM. Tried to make a playlist to run to and this app was recommended because it lets you curate using beats per minute. I tried making a playlist between 150 and 165bpm and it couldn't come up with a single song out of 700 that I fed it even though so many were in that range.

URL Scheme is great for making shortcuts!. This app is incredible! It allows me to make a playlist with specific parameters and then start that playlist with a Apple shortcut. I use this to start a playlist every time I drive anywhere.

Crashes upon opening. …After updating, the app crashes immediately opening.😢

It just works. This is actually such a great app. I’m a real human typing and I swear I really enjoy this app. I’ve donated to the crew that’s behind it and I will prolly try out some of their other apps too.

Fits the way I use Apple Music. I have a slightly convoluted, Rube Goldberg-esque way of making playlists. Miximum has automated a lot of it.

App was great but playlist will not populate since iPad OS 15. Since the release of iPad OS 15 and iOS 15 playlist no longer populate. When you select “make a new playlist,” then select the playlist with the song you wish to populate your new playlist with the new playlist remains empty. But it was great before that.

One of my Go-to Gotta-Have Apps. Awesome functionality. Just love the ability to modify the playback for Last Played. Keep up the good work!

Would Love to Export as New Playlists. ::UPDATE:: The app was working perfectly until the last update. Intermittent crashes. Sadly, I purchased this app with the thinking that you could export your sorted playlist as a NEW playlist which you cannot.

Please add automated playlist updating to Apple Music. For this to be a true Smart Playlists replacement, it would be great to have it auto sync to an Apple Music playlist so you don’t have to bounce between apps. SongShift does auto syncing. Maybe connect with that dev and see how they do it?

Finally!. Smart playlists should be integral to iOS Music, but they are not. Glad I found this app. Simple and Great.

Smart Playlists for your phone. If you like smart playlists, this is an amazing app.

Miximum is excellent. This is a great app for Apple Music and is much more consistent than Apple’s Smart Playlist.

Don’t waste your money. there is no point to this app all it does is create “mixes” for you which really just combines songs from pre-existing playlists which you can do yourself. I thought this app would add and organize songs and make good mixes but it does not. It is also hard to navigate. Do not waste your money as the only stuff it does you can easily do yourself.

Custom playlists not displaying on Apple Music. Love this app, however the custom playlists I create with it no longer display on my Apple Music. I really miss having that!
