Not terrible. There are some annoying bits. It doesn’t always let you look for specific schools that you want to work for. Schools frequently have a hard time finding me via my ID number, and It takes a really long time to load. With that said, it works on an iPhone 6 and it does the job it’s meant to do you just have to be patient. Look for work while you’re making coffee or loading the washer and eventually it’ll open. :)
Ok could be better. I love that you can see that k is bk and q is queens but wish they added the address on the main screen instead of having to click on the jobs to see the address. Also I wish you could click on locations to separate Brooklyn from queens instead of scrolling through it all. I live in queens so I don’t want to see bk unless I click on it. So it could be better . Also we should have access to all districts in NY just in case. My daughter lives in Manhattan and sometimes I stay for two months but would like to work there . So give us more options all the time . You do this and you have more availability and help in locations needed.
I like others better. I have used several sub apps. I work at a medium to large school district and it has several schools. When I go to the kind school and get a job, I seem to only get jobs there unless it's a last minute call in. If I get that last minute call in at the 2nd grade school then I'm stuck in the 2nd grade school unless I'm a last minute job or someone asks me/requests me. I am so frustrated with this! I have said it for 2 years to people and they can all see if except for the people who decide what we use. The kind school says they see the same subs for several weeks then won't see them for months and then they will come back for 2 months but only have them. It is an algorithm that needs fixing! The Aesop app was much better where you could switch between schools to look at other schools for job, not be stuck on one school and not see other jobs at other schools. I am so frustrated with this app for that reason. It is nice that it has text, call, app and website. It is very frustrating that you can't accept a job as soon as you call in. You have to wait for someone to reject it and they may not even be looking for a job. I don't like that at all. Aesop again let me do this: first come first given not alphabetical. It does keep information organized okay. The app also calls me on every day I say I'm not available and offers jobs for days I'm not available. I get more jobs that way and that is sad. Please fix these kind of bugs!
Love the app but….. I love the app but I miss out on jobs without push app notifications. Our previous system had notifications sent to our phones and I worked every day. While subbing I don’t have the time to log in every 10 minutes and check for available jobs. I used to get notifications on my watch and could reach my phone and accept. I know several subs have complained to our HR department about this issue and pleaded with them to go back to our old system. Hopefully notifications become available soon!
Ugh. Frustrating. Can’t find “help” feature. Want to change filter for date range. It defaults to a two week range and I need to plan me life out further than two weeks. I constantly have a problem with this. Also, if I cancel a job I would like a field to write a reason other than the list given, or even an “other” choice.
Jobs won’t load. The job search for substitute teaching jobs is taking several minutes to load, then comes up with an error message of unexpected interruption. This is very frustrating when you are trying to book in a popular district that several substitutes want to work in. I’m missing job opportunities because the app won’t load. Out of a 12 hour day, the app seems to be loading jobs 2-3 times. I’ve tried to load in several different areas, full signal bars, and even wifi; it just won’t work right. It used to be a great app, but the last few months have been awful.
Frontline was more user friendly. Everything about this app has been frustrating this school year and it’s only August. I set which schools I can work at but I still get all the calls for everywhere else. I had to stop all calls. I don’t get notifications for positions online though. I set it to send those notifications but if I don’t open the app, I don’t see the postings. If I do open the app and see a job, I can’t always accept it because people on phone calls get first dibs. Refreshing the app gets you put on time out from access. Frontline allowed me to create a calendar that reflected days I couldn’t work and only showed me jobs that were available when I was. It was easy to reference my schedule when jobs were available so there were no conflicts. There was also a function that sent a message to my personal calendar so blocked off the time for me to easily view. Now I’m having to take a job and go back in to my calendar app to annotate it. Small thing but it’s annoying. Frontline, I could clock in and out, and have running on the desktop computer so I could intermittently checks jobs when there was a break in class. Now it’s more difficult because I can’t access my cell phone while I’m at school. I wish I could think of one thing about this app that’s better than Frontline but it’s antiquated and a step back in time to resemble the system we had 20 years ago.
It works better than a person calling. I like this better than a person calling. It could use some improvement. One, it needs to tell what grade or subject a teacher is as that helps me know if I want to sub for them. Two, the repeated phone calls for an open position is obnoxious. One text is plenty as I am not able to know ASAP if I am available when I get a phone call. Three, the wait time for searches on the app is also annoying. Four, it would be nice to block out certain dates I know I am unavailable.
Availability Section is Pointless. I would think there would be a way to put the hours I CAN work, and then only be shown jobs that are within those hours. I do that, and I’m still getting notifications of jobs I can’t do. I try to put in an unavailability, like I’m UNAVAILABLE during certain hours of certain days and it’s only long term unavailability like a maternity leave kind of thing. I’m tired of getting notifications of jobs that don’t pertain to me, but I do want to be notified as soon as jobs I can do are available so I guess until you fix it I just have to keep checking.
Not thrilled. I’m not liking this app. It is not user friendly and does not save settings that I’ve set up. I also signed up for text message job alerts but have not gotten any. There was a place to choose schools you want. I filled it out and saved and after 3 attempts I decided to take a break ugh. Also I still need to learn about how to put my times in so I can get paid. I couldn’t find that either. Yes, I asked questions through email and phone calls. Sometimes they get back to me on email like the next day but sometimes I’ve waited two weeks from him to get back to me on email.
Works halfsies. Everytime I login to check for jobs, I put in the dates and hit apply, then check the locations I want, and nothing. No jobs. But I know there are jobs bc I just got a text notification for said jobs. I have do this several times for it to simply pull up available jobs. Works if I pray to God, cross my fingers and do a funny dance. Then, maybe it will pull up jobs. Works half the time but it gets old and I give up on the app. I rely on texts which isn’t helpful when I want to accept a job or read any details. I got 2 emails yesterday stating the app is not working for “some” and to troubleshoot by updating the app. And if it is updated, to try manually updating the app. My app is updated. That’s not the issue. Still is inconsistently works. Please, fix the bugs, I’m tired of making up funny dances.
Seems worse with every update. I don’t know what is going on with your developers, but what was once a fairly reliable app (although it’s been close to a year since I would say that was true) is now just complete trash. No longer do I get notices from it, at some point after the last update it just stopped. Also, the login is terrible, probably 2 out of 3 times it just sits at fetching data from server message. Also if I try to update my call/do not call times under scheduling it just gives me an error when I save. All I can do is turn that option on or off. Can’t set a time. So I end up just logging in on line when I have time. So much for making things easier to access.
Good data to find sub jobs but way too slow. Although this app is good for finding sub jobs it has very poor performance. Opening the first page at sign on takes way to long and only returns a small number of records. Querying up the second page takes just as long. I don’t know if other school districts have this issue, but mine sure does. If the developer solved the problem with speed and increased the number of jobs returned with each search, this would be a five star app.
It works sometimes. This app is not the greatest and the website is just as fickle. It is a good resource though when it is working : to see available jobs and their locations, view your active jobs and check in as well as check out, and see your completed/finished jobs. I like that it does give you the option to filter results and view any instructions if left by the school or teacher. The website is faster and more responsive. I’ve experienced with this app though that it does not load completely , my active and finished jobs list will be empty the entire day up until 20 minutes before shift starts and if it’s still empty I must use the website to login and check in. I don’t like the loading speed of the app either but it does populate with available jobs if you wait for the loading circle to disappear. I do not take calls from smart express - I solely use the app to schedule my shifts and when it’s time to check in , If I can’t on the app, I use the website.
SFE ISSUE: DO NOT CALL time clock does not allow 24 hour or am- pm distinctions!. No calling time set custom does not allow 24 hour clock or am/pm distinctions! I get calls over night as result. Secondary issue but of major import, since last update applied; texting of opportunities have been discontinued. I have lost significant opportunities to work as a result. I can’t answer phone calls while in class but I can answer text messages!
“Fetching data from Server”. At times, this app is incredibly infuriating. It’s kind of a joke how unreliable it is— literally. I have heard several staff members and other subs make the same remarks I do about it never loading!! If you open it up and you see the words “Fetching data from Server” for more than 5-10 seconds, it will likely not load even if you let it try for 10+ minutes. On several occasions I have literally logged in and back out more than 5 times in a row and it will not load…wait 15 minutes try again…won’t load… try later that evening…still won’t load. It feels like you’ve won the lottery if you’re able to make it to the available jobs page, or even active/upcoming jobs you’ve accepted! Please fix this. The app would be perfect for it’s intended purpose, if it actually worked more than 25% of the time.
So hard to log in! Updated after a year of use.. I don’t understand why I would need to log in literally every single day on this app. It’s terrible. And the constant phone calls and voicemails. This should be streamlined and not something that takes several minutes each time to log in. I love subbing but I hate using this system. One year later: it’s still terrible. My school system is now using rapid id to login and I have to keep accepting permission FROM THE APP to use it. Then it has multiple screens to input login information. How is that any more user friendly than before? You should have a system in place that will remember login information on trusted devices. I should be able to see more than a certain date in the future on the list, I shouldn’t need to comb through the calendar view to see all the dates for jobs that are in the future. As someone who can’t work spontaneously the day of because I have to schedule childcare this is a terrible system that prevents me from working as much as I would like to. I literally would never see the jobs in advance.
Not User Friendly or a time saver. Very subpar to Frontline app. Archaic experience. Every time you log on you have to go through steps to filter for the schools you wish to work at. Seems no way to lock in your school preferences. Logging in, filtering, is time consuming when you are having to compete for jobs. With Frontline, jobs can be easily linked to your cell’s calendar; not so with SmartFind; a must if working multi districts. Wanted to link my Frontline District with the SmartFind District but seems can’t be done. Log on time, no multi district view, and having to manually load jobs to my cell calendar is a problem. Too easy to make a mistake and book 2 schools same day. Rethinking working for a district using SmartFind. Too cumbersome.
Improve it already!!. Finally the app is available to us but there is much room for improvement. A search feature is a must. Second, how about the courtesy of a phone number or even an email address for questions? The available job list also does not refresh. By that I mean if there are 10 jobs when I leave the app without closing it - there are still 10 available jobs when I bring the app back up 2 hours later. The problem some of those jobs were taken but the app failed to refresh the screen.
Good app, only problem is is with the password. I check the app every day and have gotten many sub jobs from using it. this year I’ve gotten phone calls from the app and that’s not working for me. I can’t enter my PW from my phone because I have one upper case letter and one special character, which I can’t type on the cell phone. the app won’t let me change my PW, saying’ enter a valid password’
Works but needs enhancements. While the app works well for finding substitute jobs, it can be improved. First, make the filter selections permanent so the user doesn’t have to select them every time after logging in. Second, enable notifications so jobs fitting the user’s criteria/filter selections can automatically be sent via text or email. Third, it often takes several seconds to conduct a new search, so the user has to wait for the system to reset. This also should be corrected if possible.
Not great. As someone who has subbed in various districts, this is the least user-friendly app for finding jobs I have come across. The available jobs search is incredibly janky. Why do I have to wait several seconds just for it to “fetch” the next set of 10 or so jobs? If I tap something while it’s still ‘thinking’, it often just breaks altogether and comes up with a time-out error that indicates I can “search again in X seconds” but I usually just have to close out of the app entirely to get it working again. Filtering for jobs by location doesn’t work on the app; I don’t know if this more on my district’s end but I can’t actually filter for location, which also allows me to filter by grade level, etc which is irritating because then I have to wait ages (see above) while I scroll through jobs I don’t want. The filters are all available when I log in on a computer, however. The in-app calendar is nice, but why is there no option to add assignments to my own personal calendar? Pretty much everything comes with an ‘Add to Calendar’ button nowadays. That would be a huge quality of life improvement.
Good resource that adds clarity. It’s helpful to be able to track down positions as a Substitute Teacher, but the app could be more streamlined; currently, I can select specific schools under Locations on the web page, but not on the app (The only option that shows up is All Locations). A map of the area and available positions would be a fantastic upgrade to better understand travel times associated with the particular position one is looking at relative to our respective home neighborhoods. The loading times for active jobs are about as painful as the cutscenes for the remake of Chrono Trigger on the PS1.
Whew…this is so much better!. The mobile app is so much better than the old one. The only thing is we were without a working app since the roll out of iOS8 and the new app is ONLY surpassed by the laptop/desktop version. Good job! Is it perfect? No, there is always room for improvement. I think the functionality of this app could be expanded (thus increasing it’s value) using current technologies, to make our jobs easier, especially when it comes to the increase in security since the tragedy in Uvalde. Thank you.
Will spam you if you link a phone number. This is a terrible app. Their service will spam your phone with phone calls (I received 20 calls in less than 20 minutes). I ended up blocking the number altogether while I was getting spammed at dinner, BUT even that didn’t work. Apparently, blocking a number on an iPhone will still allow them to leave a voicemail. I quite literally had my voicemail box full for weeks and didn’t know because once I blocked the number, the calls weren’t showing up but could still leave voicemails. After having blocked the number, I had 32 voicemails from SmartFind Express, all were from the same day. What a pathetic system. I shouldn’t have to adjust my do not call hours to avoid this, as even during the hours I would want to be called, I dont want to be spammed like that. I reccomend logging onto the website and deleting your number from your account altogether. There is never a call time one would want to be spammed like this.
A sub’s best friend. What’s great about this app is everything you need to stay organized is right here in one place: a calendar, new job offerings, jobs you’ve accepted, plus everything you need to know about each job assignment. No more post-it’s or other ways of keeping track of your week. If you’re a busy substitute teacher like me, you’ll love this app and all its practical features.
Helpful App for substitute teachers. Thank you very much for this app. It helps the guest teachers to choose the job they can do or they are interested in. At this time I couldn’t think of any suggestions to improve the app. However, as I use mire, I will definitely contribute providing feedback on how to improve. Pretty good app!. My only problem with it is that I keep having to tell it the Location(s) I want every time I open it. I have no interest in elementary, but every time I open the app, elementary jobs appear along with the high schools (I actually want) on the list as available. So I have to go back in again to Filters and tell it the high schools I want to see, and hit Apply, but it never “sticks!” I have to do this EVERY TIME I use the app. Definitely a first-world problem, but it’s still annoying and could be easily fixed, I would think?
Don’t receive the job offers. It is frustrating that when you booked for a job I don’t see the other available options for the same day/time in case i want to change the job or location etc, i have to cancel the accepted job first to see the other available jobs for the same day/time, please correct/improve this fault, thanks
Not User Friendly For Substitutes. Has stopped working at all! I’ve contacted my tech support and they confirmed that it’s nit working and it’s now necessary to use the website rather than the mobile app….This app requires a tedious logging in and a range setting every-time you want check for assignments. The filters need to be reset with each log in. It is so time consuming when all you want is a very quick check for available assignments. Further, it has no ability to push notifications that an assignment is available! So antiquated! Best I can guess is that it must be more “cost effective” for the school district over other, more efficient, applications.
Awful. This app will crash constantly, takes forever to load jobs when you scroll down. One time it deleted all of my upcoming jobs and I had to delete the app and reinstall it for it to work. It won’t let you sign in at least 5 minutes before which is awful because when the bell rings, I have children in the room and the last thing on my mind is to sign in. It’s also not user friendly for administration and they have had a hard time adding in jobs.
Not remotely user friendly. This app could not be any more frustrating! It takes forever to load and 80% of the time I’m receiving an “Unexpected Exception” message and the available jobs won’t display for hours (the website is just as bad). Whatever changes or updates they made really messed things up. Go back to the old format; at least it was reliable. Other subs are also having similar issues. I have tried everything! Updating to the newest versions on my phone, uninstalling and reinstalling, etc. and nothing is working. Ugh! :(
Could be improved with some key features. Would love to see the following features: - access to full settings available on desktop - ability to sync with google calendar to instantly set unavailable dates and to add assignments to my personal calendar - ability to ask questions about an assignment within the app - ability to only get app notifications and no phone calls
Does Not Send Job Notifications. My school district switched to this system last year. I can not even begin to describe how frustrating it is to not receive notifications for jobs. I am set to receive calls and notifications at all times, but it rarely happens. When I am requested for a job, the app does not notify me. Logging in every ten minutes every day to see if jobs are available isn’t practical, uses data to send me text messages to verify the log in , is time consuming and frustrating. School has been in session since August and out of all those days the system has called maybe 20 times which equals to about one fifth of the time. In addition, the app rarely sends me a pop up in regards to jib notifications.
Does not work for subs. App does not work well for substitute teachers trying to acquire jobs. It does not update available jobs unless I log out and then log back in. It often gets so bogged down that I have to completely shut off and restart my phone. I cannot use this app at all when the system is calling out (5-10 PM and 6-9 AM). Even though it is clunkier to to sign into the website, I often need to do that rather than use this app. Apps are supposed to be easier than websites when you are on a phone. You folks have failed miserably with this app.
App punishes you for cancelling last day even if accident. This app will call you at 5 am when you’re completely asleep only to delete the job offer because you accidentally clicked something else. The most frustrating thing about this l is waking up early, accidentally clicking the wrong job only to find the app punishes you for “cancelling last minute”. Now no jobs show up even if you could very well be on time and find work because this happened before school starts! 5 am and 7 am, doesn’t matter if you are already awake or if it was an accident now you can’t work for the day! That is insanely awful , this is a JOB using an extremely flawed app that makes finding jobs difficult! Also good luck if someone cancels on YOU because the app forces you to “accept” that your job was cancelled, but then you click and somehow it never works to it calls you every hour of the day until the job passes telling you to “accept” its cancellation. I can’t think of a worse app for a job like this.
So bad I’m writing my first review ever. This app is so egregiously horrendous and I’m so absolutely fed up that I’m writing an App Store review for the first time in my 12 years of iPhone ownership. It logs you out in the middle of using it CONSTANTLY. Constantly. I can’t set my availability, scroll through available jobs, literally ANYTHING without getting randomly logged out in the middle of using the app. It’s infuriating. And it’s not like there’s a minute or even a few seconds of inactivity—I’ll be actively trying to move as fast as humanly possible to finish what I need to do before getting logged out but every 30-60 seconds I’ll click on something and get the dreaded screen with the long error message and forced back to the district selection page. It makes me want to flush my phone down the toilet. I REALLY REALLY hope my district will consider switching to another hosting platform like frontline, because this app is so comically horrific that it feels like they’re actively trying to prank us. There’s no way someone whose job it is to make apps and gets paid actual money to do this could have possibly effed this up so bad. I truly despise and resent you, SmartFind express.
Check In/Out. I enjoy using SmartFind - generally. However, I have one major concern. Specifically , the checkin and finish job feature have issues. ThThere needs to be improvements within this system. Moreover, when I enter my check in time, it seems to change automatically some point later. It is critical that I always chk my hours by the weekend. Pls try to improve this feature of SmartFind. Thank you .
Lousy app with poor to non existent support. The mobile app provides little help for Subs. To specify an ongoing day each week that I am Unavailable for jobs should e done in Profile Settings. When I set that I am unavailable on all Wednesdays I am still getting calls and texts. The online system does not reflect my preferences that I set in Mobile app. Using Filters is another problem. Instructions are unclear as to whether I am selecting preferences for Locations or eliminating Locations for potential jobs. Lastly, you can’t find anyone to call at Power School who supports Smart Find Express and it is not in their list of products on web site or IVR answering menu.
Needs Updating. Been trying to log on all morning for teaching jobs I have lined up this upcoming week. Continue getting an Error message that says “ERROR: Please update your version of SFE Mobile.” However, there isn’t an update available. I have restarted my phone numerous times and deleted and reinstalled the app. That has not worked. I’ve been using the app for a year, so I know it’s not user error. Prior to this, the app has been great. But they need to fix this issue asap. Thanks.
Nothing good. Because of all problems I’m working about 25% of what I was. I’ve actually taken a second job. The school is chronically understaffed so this is a problem for both of us. I only take jobs at one school out of 35. I can’t permanently select this school, I have to go through multiple steps to select it every time I want to search. My last app texted me the minute a job hit. Now I have to go through many steps to search and jobs can be taken by other subs. The practical effect is that the schools have lost subs like me that specialize in one school. If they want to work they now have to take jobs from any school. This is a negative for the kids. Having subs that really know your school and get to know the kids is helpful. For that reason the loss of this feature is possibly the worst. The app doesn’t link to my calendar like our last one did. I’m nervous I’m going to forget a job. It says it has text capabilities to confirm a job or notify you for changes/cancelations. but I can not make it work. I can’t get job confirmations, reminders ir notice if the job cancels. I’ve had one job change and I don’t recall it calling me (I just saw it in the app). It doesn’t call when the school coordinator puts me in on her side. I just have to sign into the app to accept It will call me if there are jobs available, at any of the 35 which is always. If I don’t answer it calls back in 2 minutes. The first day I had 15 voicemails in half an hour. There are many steps to decline a job so I can’t just decline them at the call so it stops calling on the 34 campuses I don’t want. It’s new so my school doesn’t seem to have many who understand it and I can’t find help support anywhere. There are so many features the school used last. This year is the first time I’ve had multiple schools calling me every week at 8 am trying to fill jobs for that morning and I really think all of these problems are contributing to them not being able to get subs. It really is an app that needs a ton of work.
Desired Features. Hi, the app us great, I wish we could see other available assignments in our district even when we are in an active assignment. Sometimes we get into a placement and it’s not a great fit but we don’t want to leave unless we know there are other available options. So it would be helpful if we could still see available assignments and maybe not allow us to accept a new assignment until we are removed from the current position. Thank you!! A Substitute in Vegas
Helpful, but only when it’s working. I’m so thankful that there’s an app and it has the option to block calls so that I can find a job on my own without getting calls all day everyday. BUT the app (and on the computer) is so finicky. Sometimes it says there are no jobs available and I cannot start another search for 30 seconds. Sometimes it only gives me jobs available for that specific day. And sometimes it gives me all the jobs available for the entire month. But I am constantly refreshing the page and spending so much time just trying to get the app (or website, both are equally bad) to actually show me all my options. The filter hardly ever works. 9 out of 10 times it says nothing is available. I’d like to simply search for a specific date, but apparently there’s nothing available for any dates you pick, even if you just saw something. The calendar option never works either. Everything about the app is great in theory, and if it all worked I’d give it 5 stars because that would be a great and easy way to pick up jobs. But nothing works! I’ve been trying to pick up a job I’ve been requested to do for the past hour but it’s not giving me results in any capacity. If it’s because there are too many users and it can’t keep up, something needs to be updated, because this is horrendous. I should not be spending this much time trying to pick up a job. And mind you I’m only trying to pick up jobs twice a week. I couldn’t imagine trying to do this full-time.
Super helpful, could be even better. This app is the only tool I use for jobs and I sub every day. It’s easy to use and has some great features. I love the calendar, but it could be even better by going back to show past jobs as well. That would make double checking my paychecks so much easier. I don’t love that I have to refresh it constantly. I’m stalking that thing all day, every day. I would love to get an instant push notification when there’s a new job.
Poor Usability. I agree it’s frustrating to use on your phone. It won’t load all the jobs available at once and makes you scroll up and wait 5 seconds before trying to scroll down and load more jobs. Before I figured out this hack I spent hours frustrated that I could only see jobs coming up immediately and could only get jobs for say May to load sometimes before the system kicks you out, makes you re-login and start all over again at the top of the list trying to load jobs future months. You need a filter by date function as well as location and teacher.
On the fritz?. Typically this app doesn’t give me too many problems. Aside from taking a while to load… But today, for some reason none of my active jobs show on the app, despite the fact that I know I have jobs for this week, and it’s only registering the press of my finger for a certain sections of the app. For example, I’ve tried updating my schedule availability, but when I press the Save option… It doesn’t register it at all, but it seems to be perfectly fine with me exiting out of the page so that I can go back to another section of the app without having saved the changes I made in the first place. Anyone else having this issue? I have been on top of updating the app and I do have the most recent iOS on my mobile devices… I don’t know if maybe that might be part of the issue or not but…?
Fetching data from server… delay issues ALL THE TIME. I can never use this app. And it’s something that needs to be very reliable. As I log on it, it always grays out the screen and spins stating fetching data from server… with everything grayed out, I can’t even click on other options to see my current jobs, my account info or messages. Every blue moon I can get it in. This is very frustrated trying to see upcoming available jobs when all it does is always states fetching data from server and you can’t use any functions in the app. This app needs a major tuneup. TY
Slow moving and unreliable. Every time I search I have to apply filters for location. In such a large school district, it’s be nice to be able to have filters set since we tend to sub in certain areas. Also, if we want to start a new search, we have to wait a set amount of time before it will let you do it. Why?!? And for a week now, jobs for the school I sub at won’t show up. I reached out to the district and they say it’s a glitch that smart find has at times and there is nothing I can do. So now I can’t see jobs where I’m able to work. That’s a problem.
great option until most recent update. I loved the app version of SmartFind, it let me see until the end of the school year and not have to reset my day range every time like the website does. It has its drawbacks like the unavailability selectively shows me assignments that i've stated i can't do but then sometimes won't show them. HOWEVER the most recently update made it so every correct job i have and all past jobs say "Invalid DateTime - Invalid DateTime" which is AWFUL. my district doesn't "support" the app which means unless yall fix it i'm in for a miserable school year since as a grad student i rely on the app to pick up future jobs quickly during breaks in the school day while i'm working ir during evening classes. please fix it!!!!! update 10/17: it's fixed! still not perfect but upped a star for the quick response (under 3 days i think!)
No Heads up for Grade Level at ES. This app is great to locate and submit jobs you may want to accept. It can be potluck though. If it’s ES though, you won't known if it’s 1st or 5th. If early ed is not your forte that could be an issue. Also when I used to submit a request for a guest teacher( aka sub=sub sandwich?=subpar? Hate that name!) I would attach the plans so a guest teacher could preview the plans the night before. So on a computer at least you find the name of the teacher, but still no available plans. On the app you won’t get the name of the teacher or a plan to preview. This may not matter to everyone but it does for many.

Stopped working. This app was working great. I sort of need it for my job until I went to sign in and I get the message ! Identity provider account not mapped with any SFE account. I tried contacting the app another way and just get bots sending me in circles. I can log into the website but it’s WAY less convenient. I really just want someone to help me fix the issue and maybe this will get someone to help basically.

Bug fixes ruined app. When I first signed up for this app in September it worked perfectly. Now when I sign in, it doesn’t go straight to available jobs, it goes to active jobs and keeps saying it’s fetching data. I have to keep exiting and going back in until it works. Very annoying! Please fix this.

Move the “cancel assignment” button, s.v.p!. I love this app! However, jobs can be canceled in error because, on the newer iPhones, swiping up from the bottom can accidentally cancel the assignment! It is not where that function should be placed! ;)
Horrible app/system. Stressful app when you accept jobs and it gets cancelled without telling you. You get a call for a job and it’s no longer available. The bugs are still not fixed and the app creates a lot of stress for nothing

Please do some upgrading. Whenever trying to load the jobs at 5:30pm (with TVDSB), the app states "fetching from server", then until if finally loads, no jobs exist. Not a tech savvy person, but does it the server is not able to support all the users?
Still far from ideal. Lately all my times and dates say ‘invalid’. Seems there’s always something, but it’s getting there
Major bug. It’s a good app when it works. but I’m always having to delete the app then reinstall it because it’s always freezing on my phone. Very annoying.
App doesn’t edit/sync with school board data. I tried on the app to change some of my locations for substituting, followed the outlined process, but the edit button wouldn’t save. Instead, I changed locations via a form on the board website (employee self service). I went back to this app a while later, logged back in — but it still showed the former set of schools. I logged out, logged back in — same issue. I advise deleting the edit button on the app if it doesn’t work, & giving an indication of how long it takes for the app to sync with the board info. Otherwise, it makes for a frustrating process, & raises the question: why bother with the app if I end up using the board website anyway?
The lowest level of customer care one might imagine!. They are not even reading the problem’s explanation you are sending to them! They, being creators of the app, redirecting you to sources who never saw and never dealt with the app (?!) The most negative experience I ever had!
New Update Still Has Glitches. The newest update (released October 16) has fixed some bugs from the previous update but there are still many user errors. Can’t access settings or press the unavailability button.
Frustrating. Very frustrating App to use. I have to open and close it sometimes 8 or 10 times or more before it will actually open. Usually just get a message saying, “fetching data from the server.” Worked great last year, whatever has been done to it in 2024 has made it excruciating to use.
Please add date sorting.. Over all SFE is a very functional app that does its job quite well, especially after some recent updates. However, I would like to suggest 2 improvements: 1) please add a date sorting option (most recent in particular) to the list of Unavailable dates we post. It’s counter-intuitive to have to have to scroll to the bottom of a years old list of dates just to check which ones I’ve booked off. 2) if a posting teacher adds more than one comment (typically an attachment) that extends the posting beyond the size of my iPhone screen such that one cannot access the Accept or Decline assignment buttons (you can’t slide it up). This has still not been have been fixed as of 2024 Oct 31… but should be.
Not working for picking up EA casual jobs. I am struggling to get this app the show me future jobs that I want to pick up. Can not even search for jobs as that button is not working and logs me out when I try and press it. Please fix this…this is my job and my means of getting work. It is essential for me to keep working.
Last update broke app. Why would you mess with a good thing. Your last update said it fixed bugs but it added so many others. You have to enter your district code everyday then log in with your credentials each time. The app won’t let you stay logged in like before. It’s a grind having to do this each time I want to use the app which is everyday.

It should work on th phone, no?. When I phoned tech support at my school board about the lack of notifications for available jobs, they said not even to bother with this app but to use my laptop instead. ‘Nuff said.
Partial day calls. 6 AM calls for jobs that do not start until 1 is totally unnecessary.
Unacceptable performance. This system continues to drop calls, it does not accept our entries when using the app to accept jobs and the text accept feature has been disabled for months. The app has not been showing current job, upcoming jobs, or completed jobs for months. To change anything we have to use the web version. I have missed out on over 5 days this year because of this app and its glitches.
DOES NOT WORK. This app will not properly connect you to your district.
Freezing. This app is constantly freezing and I have to delete it and reinstall to use it - very frustrating as I need it on a daily basis 😩

Date/time issues. App has issues that need to be dealt with by the app creator. Needs to be a way to contact app support directly instead of through administrator of organization.
Export assignments directly into a calendar. Been using this for a couple of years now, it would be a good idea if we could add jobs into a calendar.

I've had this app for two years now and never get notified on text when there is a job even when I get requested for a job I don't get notified so someone else picks it up unless I'm hovering on my phone and refreshing the page every 30 seconds you also don't get phone calls as this app suggest you do
Terrible. Cannot login via Microsoft 90% of the time. Mobile site very limited. Cannot believe that we have to use this due to a limited mobile site.
So many problems!. I miss calls on this system. The auto calling doesn’t always call in order and I have missed days of work because of it. The app glitches more than it works and I have lost access twice in just a couple months using it. I would not recommend.
Update. The update does not allow you to save information. Each time I open the app I have to add district code and log back in. As well the font size is larger than the screen allows you to view. New fix needs to happen.
Still full of bugs. So if there are too many jobs available, it times out- so apparently some of the jobs have to be taken before one can log on and actually see what is still available. Also it is difficult for a teacher to book off multiple days when they are sick. So students could potentially have multiple teachers for a multiple day job. It’s better than not having an app, but it’s still got a ways to go. Like it would be nice for a teacher to be able to leave comments next to their completed jobs, such as, parking is first come first serve, or secretary was surprised I took a French immersion job.
Confusing and Overly complicated. Compared to Apply to Education, this is an inferior app. It is not user friendly, is missing key functionality found in ATE, takes forever to load, doesn’t track if you are paid for a day, does not have job board vs offered job filters, calendar is cumbersome to add unavailability, and more. Peel Board has made a terrible decision to change systems.
Horrible. This app is the worst it’s super glitchy and takes so long to load I’m always having to close and reopen sometimes deleting the whole app just to get it to work properly…and sometimes that doesn’t even work!!! This app needs a revamp it’s not good the schools need to find a different method to search for staff!!!
Doesn’t stay logged in and push notifications don’t work. At least it seems to fetch new data for me now..which it didn’t do before so I kept having to log off to get new data
Text size. Your app does not work well if text size is larger in phone settings. Info at bottom of screen is not accessible… accept and decline buttons often not appearing on screen.
Useless. We are required to use this app in our district. It never loads properly, just keeps buffering, and makes it impossible to search jobs. People rely on this app to make a living and it is virtually unusable.
The app sucks. It doesn’t show jobs that I can clearly see available with the same search settings on my computer. This is costing me money, and there is absolutely no reason as as the search parameters are the same! I wish my board never made the switch to this system, it’s the worst and the constant logging in and out of the app is so counterintuitive. If I set search parameters why does it need to constantly be reset? On top of that the app doesn’t allow you to update your locations either. What is the point of having an app that sucks this bad at what it does?
Problems registering. The app kept sending me to a loop when I was registering. I had to authenticate using a different method. Also very difficult to change password for new accounts
The worse app. The worse app in the world, that has and will make your life disastrous. You will have bad mental health and depression with this app.
Does not work. The App is terrible. It’s been stuck on buffering for ever. I have tried reinstalling many times it just won’t work.
Always Locked Up. I don't know what happened, the first two months the app was stable and worked very well. Way more user friendly than the mobile version. But all of last year and so far this year the app spends most of the time locked up with a spinning wheel of death and a 'Fetching data from the server' message. I've tried everything that I can think of from deleting the app five or six times a day to restarting and resetting the phone and checking all of my settings and nothing works consistently. Sometimes it works, but most times it doesn't. If I had to guess it's probably because it signs me up through Google and that is always a mess.

SmartFind express difficulties. The app is so so sooo slow. When login in to look for teaching jobs at my district the app takes almost 20 minutes just to login in. Reloading the screen for any new job postings also takes a long time which I didn’t experience any of this issues last school year. For some reason this school year the app has just been slow which is a big inconvenience.
Have to log in EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.. Something changed in the app, maybe when I updated to iOS26, and now every time I open the app i have to log in (which is several clicks the way my district has it set up). Super annoying because I check often for new postings. Other than that, for how I use it, it's great. Nonissues seeing/selecting/declining jobs. I just wish it would stay logged in.
This is my livelihood!!. This is our district’s first year using this system and the elementary schools (where I usually sub) are refusing to use it. The only people dependent upon the app are the coaches and SPED, so as an “adolescent senior” that is not on a pension, I’m struggling get to work. I hate that the jobs can’t be added directly into my phone calendar. I hate that the app doesn’t stay logged in and takes too many steps to log in. I hate that the preset search functions poorly and there is often a lag notice if I decline a job or change search parameters. The “ phone in” system which I don’t use may be working however in a district that is tech savvy this app does not perform satisfactorily. Perhaps this is designed for a smaller district but is a not up to standard for a 22 school district, Which is an oversight by our administration.
Waited four years for this SmartFind Express app. They should have created a SmartFind Express app a long time ago. It is much faster than logging in on the website. I would suggest some updates or a faster notification when each job assignment appears so that we do not have to rely on checking the website every single time.
Great, handy app!. I love the SFE app! It’s so much quicker to bring up than the online version! Even quicker than waiting for a phone call! I often just not accept the call and go right for the app! If you’re a sub and have access to the app, give it a try! 😊
Truly the worst app I have ever used. I substitute often and have experienced good and great substitute management systems. This is by far the worst app out there for subbing. It often crashes before I can even log in. Plus, when there are jobs available, I can’t even accept them because they are being offered to people over the phone. So then why even have the app?? It seems futile to rate the app since I don’t really think anything can be changed, but if there’s anyone out there who reads these and can do something…please do!!
Horrific: does not work. This is one of the most horrible and frustrating applications I’ve ever had to work with. Even the school administration can not explain why SmartFind Express does not show or send ANY available jobs which are in reality available. Instead the administrators must text and email me assignments since the portal and app neither work. This company’s contract with the public schools warmest time and lots of tax dollars. On top of it, they have no customer service nor technical support number.
Is anyone else struggling. Last year the app was awesome. I received phone calls. Now we do not get actual phone calls but text only and that’s only every once in a while. I do not want to have to pick up my phone every few minutes to check the app for jobs. I have called the district and asked if there was a problem and was pretty much told they had no clue and seemed very disinterested the problem. I want to work but if I do not see available jobs I can’t . Just frustrated and wish I could get actual phone calls.
Awful. They RUINED their own app!. I’m unable to stay signed in to the three districts I sub for through this app. If I put in my user ID and password for one district, it automatically populates to all three districts- yet each district requires a different ID and password. As a result, I can no longer CONVENIENTLY check for jobs on all districts. I’m missing work opportunities every day since this app was screwed up in Dec 2023. By the way, each district tells me they have to contact IT for me- I, the actual user, have no way of contacting the app for support. Way to mess up a good thing. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼
Not user friendly. Takes forever to input do not call times, set up for text notification- STILL do not get texted when a new job is available, can only get an alert from the app and they are delayed and often past job start time. No grade level indication on jobs. Nice concept but whoever designed it doesn’t actually use it.
Suggestion from a retired and very active substitute. I think it would be a great upgrade and very helpful to require that substitute requests must identify the grade for which the job is. Adding a place for that other than in “text instructions” would be great. Some requests DO identify the grade, but it’s not required, so sometimes when accepting a job, a sub is in the dark until arriving at the site.
This App Sever and Speed needs improvement. Since October 2024, I have been attempting to give myself a task; nevertheless, it is seldom (1 out of 10 tries) for me to be successfully assigned due to server timeouts. This consistently prevents me from seeing what is accessible. This occurs to both me and many of my coworkers who use the Smart Find app. This application, catering to a vast number of users, should not have timeouts and must possess sufficient capacity to accommodate thousands of concurrent users. Kindly rectify this problem. This application has rendered me unable to work due to its persistent malfunction.
Works OK. So far have been enjoying this app… Except a times out very quickly, which can be irritating and I wish that if you were to pick specific filters they would be applied for as long as you needed them to be so you wouldn’t have to keep applying the filter every time you do a search
Latest update is a downgrade!. ***Update Sunday evening 12/17. App finally seems to be working! We're back in business! App was more user friendly than the site, other than the app calendar not showing my dates off. (Please fix that and it will be perfect!) Since this latest update I can no longer access the app data, it just keeps reloading in full site form.
Easy to use and quick. Once they instituted this site looking for a sub job became so much easier . It’s quick and easy to navigate and make changes to your availability and see what jobs you have coming up it’s a great site
Needs an upgrade. This app needs a severe upgrade. Too slow, limited setting options. Its only good use is to view jobs but it only works best for the next day. You can not view any other possible job dates. The calendar function is useless also. And forget about having the option to block future calls, you need to log into a computer for that. This app is very basic and it’s very slow. It’s a shame that for a large city, large population, we have poor technology for city workers.
SFE App. It is terrible. It is sow to load jobs and often freezes where a job won’t open for details and properly able to log off. And most importantly, it won’t open and list my finished jobs so I can put in my hours to get paid. This has happened several times in the month that I have used this app. I have called and said something about it but no one said to know how to fix it. Every wee there’s another problem. Please get someone to fix this app
Hard to setup. I find this app ridiculously hard to setup and use even when you have the User’s guide pulled up on one device and trying to navigate on another. There’s no place that I’ve found to actually put in dates that you already know you’re going to be out. And it appears that you have to setup times to be called on a daily bases which is ridiculous.
Loading and Filters. It takes a very long time to load/ refresh. When looking for an assignment or when asked if available for a specific date… can check immediately because it takes a very long time to load. Filtering to a specific school is very complicated. Finding a specific teacher is practically impossible.
Rarely Loads Properly. I have been using this app for a year now. It is great in theory, however the app rarely works properly. I have to wait for it to load and then it tells me I have to wait 10-5 seconds to refresh the sub openings. Last night the sign in page did not work for 10 minutes. It would be nice to filter by location but that feature doesn’t load properly either. While this app looks like it has a lot of features that would be valuable, they are only for show. I wish my district would find a better option!
Substitute App for Lee County FL. This app takes longer to navigate than the previous one we had last year. The second top bar on my app is missing, no way to place do not call dates, so I have to turn off my phone to avoid getting calls at 5 in the morning and 6 in the evening. In addition, no way to cancel jobs, if needed. Also, it tales too long to load jobs. This app is not user friendly at all. The app we had last year, everything was right there when you signed in. This is the worst app I’ve experienced in my 14 years as a guest teacher.
Horrible. It’s nice to have an app on your phone to access smart find, but it is incredibly slow and doesn’t always load. I have to wait 5-10 mins sometimes for a page to load. Specifically my personal calendar and my specific search details. I’ve been using it for a month now and on WiFi and no WiFi has not made any difference. The convenience of the app is no longer relevant because it is not longer convenient, it is a hassle and I loathe using it.
Missing some options. I would like the ability to email or text the contact to ask questions before I accept. An interested button would be nice to allow for the questions to be answered before I accept or to signal school to reach out to me. Some days I could be available for a partial shift and I would like to be able to easily communicate that interest within the app.
The best!. I was kind of reluctant to add another app to my phone, but changed my mind after numerous calls as a sub. I love the ability to accept a job without the hassle. I also enjoy being able to review my assignments as many times as I want. Love this app.
Glitchy and frustrating. This app is glitchy and takes forever to load. The “15 second lag time” between switching days to look at available jobs is absolutely ridiculous. As well as how it doesn’t show you jobs on the day of when you’re looking at the current day, it just says “no jobs available” which is not accurate per the admins at the schools I work in. I would never use this app if it wasn’t required by my school district.
No Push Notifications?. The app works fine, so long as you’re checking it routinely. It’s much much much easier to get jobs for districts that use Frontline due to the app SubAlert sending Text, App, and email notifications about available jobs! Seriously, lemme know when something pops up, also the phone calls are so sporadic. I understand it’s due to when requests are put in, but even as substitutes we have to sleep!
Substitute Teacher. App needs to offer an area that gives only a start and end day. This app “makes” you start and end a break….even if you didn’t get one! I worked with Autistic Kindergarten students for two days in a row. I didn’t have a break. I sat with them at their lunch table to help open their containers, drinks, etc…. I also had to constantly get up and chase two children to bring them back to our lunch table.
Settings don’t work/Not getting calls. Based on the settings, you should be able to setup do not call time. After I set it up, I stopped getting calls. The app didn't call me even during the time I mentioned it is okay to receive calls. So I changed the do not call time to its default settings. But not getting calls anymore. I really like the job search part. Can you guys fix the settings/call setting part?
Works well & convenient!. My district wasn’t using the app when I first started subbing, so I had to continually login to the website version to look for & accept assignments. The app makes it super easy and I can get job alerts when openings get posted.
Doesn’t always work. The app doesn’t always work. I’ve deleted the app and started again and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. For example, it will load the available jobs, but won’t let me do anything else in the app. Yesterday, I had to go into my laptop to “finish” a job to be able to receive payment for working. The app continued to spin when I pressed the “ finished “ section. A lot of times the app won’t allow me to filter my selections.
Not great but no choice. The app leaves a lot to want. Even though I put in to be notified of jobs, it will never notify me. Even though I put in filters, it ignores them and shows me jobs I wanted filtered out. Once, I was requested for a job and it would never let me click and accept it. I always have the most updated version and these glitches keep happening. Currently frustrated because I need to cancel a job and it won’t let me. Wish there was a better app but this is the app my district uses.
Filters/ Select All. It’s not clear that the filters require selection and are actually saved in the profile. Where is the ‘select all’ for the filters or profile setting? Also, the date range should be open ended to preview future opportunities or the user should be able to save the filters. ( No jobs were appearing until I began applying filters.) TY for considering my comments!
User Friendly Idea. The app is very useful. The one thing that’s frustrating is that it requires the user to sign in with a password every time I check for jobs. It would be so much easier to use if I didn’t have to sign in, or if it sent me a notification when a job pops up. I used the jobulator app in another state, and it was much easier to use that way.
Needs Better Instruction. Silly that u can’t punch in at 7:23am. Not able to be paid until 7:30 am anyway and sh be able to have a 7 minute buffer as opposed to a 1 minute buffer. Also, have to struggle to figure out how to simply punch in/out the time on another screen if u accidentally punch in late bc you are being given instruction by the coordinator. That causes the coordinator extra work. Liked the Kronos.
Works okay but could use some improvements.. The app works great for picking jobs. It’s simple and straightforward. However, my only issue is with the phone calls. If your call availability is set for a certain time period expect to be called frequently and often back to back. You can however set no call availability and accept jobs whenever you browse what’s available. The only issue is that if a teacher requests you it will not call you or give you a notification. If you enjoy working with a specific teacher it’s far easier to communicate through phone and instead have then assign you to the position directly rather than you accepting through the program.
Missing features. It would be nice if the app would have the feature where we can search for assignments and not just seeing the active/non active and past assignments. At the end, what is the true purpose of this app that will only take up space in my phone and it only works for seeing assignments that are active, past ones, and canceled one. It also have the options to cancel an assignment which is good thing.
Better than the constant phone calls. The single biggest improvement needed is the ability to pick grade levels and specific schools. I’m a retired high school teacher and I just had a call (and saw it there too) for a Pre-K class!! Seriously, that is ridiculous. I almost never see high schools here, just junior high and elementary schools.
It would be nice to be ableTo separate the days. Often times I am seeing shifts going unaccepted. So many of these, I could do the middle of the 3-day request or the first but not the last, etc. And rather than having no one help at all, it might be beneficial to allow the days to be split and have a better chance at getting coverages.
Horrible. Cannot find worked jobs & cannot find new jobs. I have at least 10 phone numbers for “help” and the app looks totally different than the links that they send. It’s ridicules. I’m probably not going to be paid for the days that I worked. How sad is that? I don’t work for free! Plus I did 2 hours of online required training with no compensation. Now, that’s sad. At least the government HHS pays me for online trainings. This company is too cheap to pay an hour for mandatory online training courses.
The worst. This new system is horrible. I’ve edited my filters to the specific school I sub at and I still get job postings and phone calls for all of the schools in our district. The first night I received 10 calls in a row and not a single one was for the school I work with, and I had already excepted a job for the day they were calling me about. Getting my profile set up took 3 weeks and there is no help from the website/ app nor my school district. 10/10 would NOT recommend!
Keeps freezing. Keeps freezing and my jobs don’t load up some days. The location look up freezes and I tap and tap on it and nothing happens! I get calls from all the Broward County school board and when I log in all the available jobs in Broward come up instead of the “location” I have chosen on the app and System. It didn’t use to be like this until Kelly Education took over. At this point concerned that I am going to show up at a job site and won’t be able to check in since my jobs will not load on this app.
Poor layout. Can't save login. Inaccessible sub plans.. Can't believe there layout on many screens. Have their developers looked at the app on an iphone? Words on top of words, inaccessible buttons, links to sub plans that always give an error. Do they have a user interface or user experience team? Have they tried their own app? I log in every day, many times to look for sub positions. Can you make it so I can save my login credentials? Powerschool needs to do a deep review of their own product.
Smart Find Express. I appreciate the flexibility about being able to select call times. I would be more content if there was a method to send a text message to accept or decline a job. Overall, I am very satisfied with the forms of communication.
Great !. This app has been a life saver. I work almost every day of the week in many different schools with different start times. It would be a nightmare to try to organize my schedule without this app. Everything I need to work as a substitute teacher is at my fingertips.
Does not show active jobs. I receive phone calls alerting me there are job opportunities however they do not show on the app. Since SmartFind won’t accept my new pin and the text messaging feature doesn’t work there’s no way to get jobs. Frustrating. I’ve had 3 other people try to solve this issue but nothing works. I’m signed up for two districts, but SmartFind App consistently shows active jobs for one. Frustrated.
Frustrating. The site does not tell what position a teacher is teaching. Many substitutes want to know what grade or subject they are agreeing to teach. The notification of a new job does not immediately notify you that a new job exists. It only notifies you if a job has not been taken for some time and I haven’t been able to determine how long that is. It is not user friendly to enter a non work day. The calendar is small and a job is noted by a bold numberCar which is sometimes difficult to see. Frontline was so much better on every level.
Download issues. I accepted a job. I got a notification that it had been modified. When I go to the job there is a button to download instructions. When I download it, I can never find where it has been downloaded. Where do I look for that info? I have an iPhone XR.
Too easy to accept. This app overall works well. Just could you please please add a confirmation step after accepting a job. Maybe I have fumble fingers, but I have twice while just looking at the description of a job clicked the accept button by mistake. An extra step to confirm you actually wanted to accept the job would be helpful. Thanks
I Love This App. It’s great but I there is always room for improvement. When the system is calling for someone to accept a job assignment and I try to accept the job at the same time… If that person called does not accept the job then automatically give it to me instead of calling the next on the list.
Frustrating. This app is very frustrating to use. I see that I’m not the only one with this problem based on other reviews. Getting logged off while you’re in the middle of scrolling through jobs, and having to wait 30 seconds for the next search every time is less than ideal. It’s unfortunate because this app could be so good!
