Useless. Works for one kid but for my other kid I can not report absences. It worked for a very short time at the beginning of the year and then never again. I keep hoping the next update with fix things but it never does. What an absolute waste. This app is nothing but an extra step.

Poor sign up process. Who thought it was a good idea to have the password field on the iPhone use “scan” instead of “paste”? Terrible for people using password managers. And no 2nd password field to make sure you typed it right? Terrible for people NOT using password managers. And for some reason it doesn’t recognize the email address that the school uses to send me email every single day.

Always a pain. Have to re login almost EVERY time! Duplicates messages I get texted to me! And to top it off, it doesn’t flag messages as read after reading them causing me to constantly check since the app icon shows the number of “unread” messages!

Junk app, no stars. My district spent so much of our tax dollars for the use of this app and it’s ABSOLUTELY JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK JUNK. DID YOU HEAR THAT THIEF OF A DEVELOPER, it’s JUNK! I have to use this app to communicate attendance changes for my children. It hasn’t worked yet. I enter my kids info, submit and get a message to try again later because the app isn’t working. So, I have to call all the schools and tell the staff, explain that the app isn’t working to which I hear “it doesn’t work for anyone” but from staff that are so annoyed because this app Is supposed to make their job easier. Then I have to write notes for excuse all the while my tax dollars are paying for the use of this app to NOT have to do all that. Absolutely ridiculous

Great App!. School emails are separate for all of my other emails, therefore we no longer miss any emails from the school. I recommend this app to everyone.

I love it. This App is a must have for children in Kipp schools it keeps you updated on everything school related in a timely manner

Terrible.. If I could give zero stars I would. This app is not conducive to a parent or a teacher’s needs. As an educator, it will not allow me to delete messages. Sending a message to families is a multi step process that can be aggravating to deal with especially if one is in a hurry. Notifications do not go through properly. (Either not at all or 12 notifications for one message) There is no way for a parent to begin a message to me through this app. They are forced to reply to an announcement I have made and most parents have opted out for fear of everyone seeing their replies (even though I make it private). Parents are not getting messages until a day or two later. My school district has had to send out MULTIPLE test messages in the middle of the year to ensure everyone is receiving the district’s messages. There are some serious functionality issues with this app. School messenger should contact Remind Me and take notes. If our district hadn’t taken on this app I would still be using Remind for my classroom and families. Good luck to those of you who have download this horrible app.

Abismal. This app is seriously a waste of storage. I have problems logging in every time I want to use it and it constantly crashes on me. With all the problems and bugs it’s almost impossible to use.

Doesn’t work very well. It does it’s job of providing you with messages from your school, however there are some MAJOR issues. First, there’s no way to mark multiple messages as read, so if your school has posted 100+ messages before you signed up, you have to go through each one individually. Secondly, pick a memorable password because you’ll have to log back in every other day for some reason. Lastly, as of the past few weeks, when our school posts a message I literally get about 20-50 push notifications in a row about it. It has gotten so bad I’ve just removed the app.

Keeps us informed!. With everything going on right now, this app keeps us informed! Our school, community and safety are most important!

Notification Crazy. I get about five push notifications for every actual message from my school district. A little ridiculous...

Worthless App. The absences can only be approved that day. You cannot approve them after that. The options for being late or absent is for the full day. If your student needs to leave early for a doctors appointment, the only option is to excuse them for the full day. No option for half day or an option to have them return after the appointment. Overall, it’s not a very thought out app.

No longer remembers password (keychain) which makes it worthless.. Last year this app worked well for me to receive messages from two different districts my kids are in. This year it fails to get the password from the keychain. Not useful

Ease of use. App works extremely well. It is a great tool to have all communications in one place and at your finger tips. We find it very helpful

Useful but hard to read the tiny text of messages. The most useful aspect of this app - getting a direct notification instead of needing to listen to a call of unknown length - could be vastly improved if the message could be read in a user-friendly way. The tiny text is barely readable on even a large phone screen. I do appreciate getting the email and voice options in one place, and I’d really like to be able to quickly scan the text. Devs, please try reading a message in app - while it’s possible to zoom in, the usability for reading a whole page is atrocious. I usually give up a scrolling side to side and just leave the app to load the email. Supporting viewing in landscape mode would fix this easily! You could also support Dynamic Type. I see this has been reported to the developers for *years*, and it wouldn’t take a lot to make this much more user-friendly.

Perfect for Communication. This app makes it so easy and convenient to send and receive quick, pertinent messages to and from the school! I have been waiting for years for this type of communication, it is fast! If you want a detailed message, use email, even though this app does provide that format. I overall a +5 rating!

DIFFERENT PHONE NUMBER??!!. I am very frustrated with this app. I downloaded it so that the notifications for two hour delays and cancellations can be sent directly to my phone. I was getting tired of having my mom always have to tell me. I logged into the app pretty easily but then I looked at the phone number that it said that it would send the messages to, and it was my moms! This is frustrating to me because I want to be able to have the notifications on my Lock Screen so I can easily see if there is a delay or cancellation. Yes, I can still go into the app, but things still get sent to my moms phone number instead of mine. I don’t want to have to go into the app and go through all the messages every time that I want to see if there is a delay. I have already tried changing the phone number in contacts and in the profile but for some reason it doesn’t want me to change it! It’s weird because my mom has the app on her phone and I really hope that it doesn’t send her double notifications. I might have to delete the app if so. Please help!!!

This app is awesome. I have had this app since 2020. My school sends me events that is happening the next day and the day after that.

Needs swipe option. Messages often stay unread status and don’t clear once message is in fact read. Should have option to swipe and get rid of old messages or at least mark as read to clear notifications.

Not very good. There are 3 main problems with this app. 1) it frequently logs me out and then I don’t receive notifications. This is a messaging app. If you don’t get notifications then it’s useless. 2) in the message format the text is too small to read and there is no apparent way to zoom in or enlarge. 3) there are a bunch of quirks in the attendance area. Especially with widgets being below the keyboard with no scroll bar or other indicator that something else is required. Also the contrast between light blue and white is difficult to read.

Stay Communicate!!. Thanks for so such amazing app!! My #1 priority is to be in touch with my kids schools specially on this new school year having a transition to online schooling. After looking around the app, I found out its really easy to keep in touch with all the messages. I highly recommended!

Already frustrated. Tried to make an account because our district is now using this App. 3 years there and 3rd app. Anyway, tried to create account with email on file with the school and told a verification email would be sent. Got no email and even checked spam and trash. Tried to change password and told no email exists. Tried work email and told it was not on file. Tried again with the email i knew was in file with the school and told it doesn’t exist. Tried to change password again and said a reset email would be sent but hasn’t sent. Sent an email to myself from work and it went through in leas than 30 seconds so i know its not my email not receiving messages. Second day of school and I already cannot. I hate this app.

Not good communication. This app will notify me of a new message and it doesn’t matter if I click the notification or go into the app directly, there is never a new message

School messenger. Easy to use and understand I love the voice messages that we get from the teachers will see how good it is once school starts

Helpful, but needs an update!. The app is very useful, but the last few weeks, the push notification/badge won’t delete after a message has been read. Very annoying.

Suddenly Messages are no longer marked as read?. This started in mid-January and has persisted. Help please.

Like scrolling?. When you are in a messaging conversation with one or more people, this app takes you to the beginning of a conversation instead of taking you to the most recent message forcing you to scroll and scroll until you get to the most recent message. The authors of this app must not text and know how nice that feature would be.

Terrible. I used to be able to use the app, no problem. All of a sudden I cannot use it to notify my school for absences, I reached out to them and they said it’s a school issue. It’s not. Other people are able to use the app just fine. I’ve tried everything I can on my end and nothing has been resolved.

Winter Springs High School 🐻. We didn’t have this when I was growing up. I gotta love it! they can’t get away with nothing anymore. Ha

Keeps sending notifications for read messages. Had to uninstall due to app continually sending push notifications even after message is read in the app.

So many unread messages. Can we get an easier way to mark all the messages as read? I have 5 kids and get a lot of messages and it takes forever to go through them all and open and close them to mark them as read.

Horrible App. This app is beyond awful. Our district started using it this year and it has been nothing but a nightmare to use. It’s slow, kicks me off repeatedly, doesn’t even allow me to message my children’s teachers, and always shows I have messages even when I don’t. I’ll just be using good old fashioned email to communicate with my children’s teachers from now on because this app is a joke!

Sneaky. I’d like to point out that you really have to download this app if your child’s school uses it, if for no other reason than because on the screenshots in the iOS store the teachers name is Krabapple....also it works really well.

Ugh. Constantly logs me out. Recently it started constantly notifying me despite having notifications on the app turned off. There were no new messages it just kept randomly sending me like 10 notifications in a row a few times a day. Turned off app notifications in my phone settings. About to delete the app If this doesn’t work.

Has been glitching for months. Worked fine for a couple years and now the app keeps telling me messages are unread when they’ve all been read. Number of messages never gets deleted when read. Reached out to customer service on app and website with no help. Also preferences for notifications not working. Getting calls and emails when it is set to text. Really frustrating and annoying

Great new tool so far!. I’ve only gotten on it for a few minutes so far. I still have to learn to do a few more things. But so far so good!

School district. The app (& website) has no way for me to change school districts. I tried deleting the app & reinstalling, but it just has me back in the same old school district. Very frustrating.

Enjoy this app. I would like to say that is app works for me. It makes it easier for me to update who care get the notification or not, or just emegency. Sometimes with all the work that I have, I tend to be forgetful about the update meeting I can go to. I would differently say try this app and work through it, you won't regret it.

Awful. I use to receive emails just fine with this. Everyone’s email is correct on it. First I stopped receiving emails and now my husband. The push notifications are garbage, the app constantly logs you out so you barely ever get any. The only thing working are the calls and sometimes it gives a silent call with no recording on the other end. The school blames this company, the company blames the school. Beyond frustrating, I highly advise schools stop using this, and use another application.

Immediately crashes in iOS 13.3. I’m on an iPhone 11 running iOS 13.3. The app crashes immediately on opening. Tried several times force quitting the app each time.

My ONLY complaint. There needs to be a “Mark all as read” button for the notifications. Other than that, this is a pretty great app!

Notifications. The app is great aside from the fact that when I read a message the notification is still there and won’t go away. So the notification bubble stays there and message count keeps going up even though I’ve read them all. Driving me crazy.

Messages show UNREAD. I came to the comments to see if I was the only one experiencing having received messages, open and read them, but it still shows up as a new message as if unread and there’s no option to mark as read manually. Please fix. Otherwise everything is seems fine as I get the messages sent by the school, just want it shown as read so I don’t keep scrolling through to see if I missed anything important.

30 notifications about 1 email. I just got 30 notifications in last 3 minutes about 1 email which school sent yesterday. So finally today i turned off all the notifications. I can live without any notifications from this app, but cant bear 30 notifications in the middle of night because of some bugs which the developers are unable to fix for ages

icon missing from iphone after update. The icon for this app. that is mandatory for me to use is missing from my iphone home screen. It’s either a bug related to the SchoolMessenger update or related to the IOS update. I have to access the app through app purchases. Super annoying.

Bad app or horrible integration? Either way, has potential but needs work.. Can’t report absences over 3 days, School requests that we not report late arrivals or early departures through app. Great for planned absence notification. Timing of data uploads to school systems severely limit usefulness.

Awkward. The title says it. The UX is awkward and clunky. It looks like it was made a decade ago for desktop and didn’t translate well to mobile. Navigation is not straightforward, and login is slow and unreliable. Needs a makeover

Read msg still marked unread. I had been constantly checking messages but for the last 3 months, the read messages are still marked unread.

Continuous Notifications. Recently I am getting non stop ghost notifications that when I go in there is nothing new but get a new notification every 15-30 minutes. Very annoying.

Could not register. I used it before, but after changing school the system shows that I don’t have connected information. School couldn’t help. Changed emails with school, doesn’t work. Who can help?

Reset Password. The app will not send me a link to reset the password. Therefore, I can no longer access the app.

Missing Key Features. Great way to consolidate school messages in one place HOWEVER it’s missing features. You cannot select messages to mark as read or delete them. Not all messages pertain to me so why can’t I get rid of the ones I don’t want to see? Having to scroll through all the messages to find important ones is frustrating. Having to click open every message to mark as read (and remove the notification) is extremely slow and annoying.

You don’t miss school information. The app helps you to be informed about everything happening in the school

I hate this, with so many apps to choose from. I work at a school and have to communicate with parents directly on a daily basis regarding their child’s health. What would normally take 3-5 minutes, now takes 15-20 mins. Here are some of the reasons. 1. You have to scroll all the way down to find newest text. Gets annoying after a day or 2. 2. I am notified of new text coming in, but once inside the app, no way of know who actually sent the text without changing settings. 3. Texts are often delayed, especially when sent from a computer. About the only “reliable” way (and I use this term loosely) is using my personal phone. Which the whole reason we have to use this app is because I didn’t want to be using my personal phone and number for texting parents directly. 4. I have to constantly be signing in throughout the day. 5. Doesn’t put group name in title, instead name of person who last texted. I have groups with individual families and then groups with a certain grade, etc. I have to be double checking to make sure I send out information to. This is one of my biggest complains! I send out potentially confidential information and with so many groups, checking for the right group takes time. 6. Forget about sending pictures! They take forever to load and you can only send one at a time and must add caption. I love my job! But using this way of communication (which is the only school approved), increases my stress level and takes up so much of my time. It’s almost easier to call parents directly, though VERY inconvenient for everyone involved.

Good but Falls a little short. Currently when there is a message, it is not wrapped to your screen. Instead you have to scroll left and right to read the messages.

Repeating notifications are maddening. The app notifies my of each message dozens, AND DOZENS of times. Doesn’t matter what i do, what I read, what I tap, what I delete. Ding! Ding! Ding! It’s done it 7 times as I write this review.

Email preferences not followed!. I’ve set up two email addresses, with different settings, but I keep getting the same emails to both addresses (for a type only one or the other address should be getting). And, the emails have no information appended at the end about unsubscribing, or an email address for help.

Ok. Needs mark all as read. App works. 1) I wish you could mark all the notifications as read vs going into each one. 2) Easier notification navigation. When you click and open a notification there should be an option to go to the next one or the one before vs having to back out and click on the next one.

Crashes on iPhone 6s. The app crashes everytime I go to open it on my iPhone 6s. I can see the messages in my Notification Center, but not in the actual app. Please look into this. My kid's school is utilizing this app for messages so getting this working is critical!

Won’t recall my password. It’s irritating that I have to log in every time I want to read a message from my school district. This app will not remember my password and I cannot find a setting to change this. It also won’t allow me to delete an old phone number that my wife used to have but doesn’t any more. Finally, it won’t remove the notification icon even though I have read all my messages. It says I still have two unread messages.

Crashes & Not User Friendly. The app is consistently crashing. You need to log in ALL the time. There is no way to tell which are unread messages. You cannot delete messages. It is slow when you attempt to open a message. I wish LBUSD would STOP using it.

Lousy & Embarassing. My district has decided this is to be our primary means of communication between parents/students/teachers. It is absolutely disgraceful. During parent conferences, after finding out some parents weren’t using the app for various “lousy app” related reasons, we tried to open the app and “sell” the parent on it and the darn thing wouldn’t even open. We waited at least 30 minutes to no avail! Talk about embarrassing!! We’ve decided to go back to good old email!!

Needs more features.... 1. I have to log in every single time I open the app to view messages from teachers. This is extremely frustrating. 2. You cannot send a private message to your child’s teacher. You also have to constantly worry that your messages can be viewed by other parents if you reply to your child’s teacher. 3. It’s constantly showing messages as unread. 4. There is nothing that tells you who can view a “public” message. There seems to be no difference between public messages and private ones. 5. Class Dojo offers several user friendly features that would make this school messenger app better. Hopefully this app gets updated and made less frustrating to use.

Fix this!. The app is okay. When you look at a message, the top tells you the initials of the student the message is relevant to. It really needs to be set up so that the app doesn’t log out. It’s ridiculous having to log in each and every time a message is sent.

Will this app ever get fixed?. This is going to be the 2nd year that my school site uses this website/app. Last year, parents and students were not really able to join the groups. I was literally with parents, making sure they used the same email that the school had on file for them. This app is great, as far as receiving mass messages from admin. But everything else, communicating with parents/students doesn’t work. This is why practically all the teachers at our site stopped using this. Hopefully it’s fixed for this upcoming school year. But by looking at their update history, it seems highly unlikely.

School Messenger. GREAT APP!

No Choice. My school district chose School Messenger as our primary communication system between teachers and parents. I can access all parts off the computer, but the app has crashed every single time I’ve tried to use it on my phone (iPhone X). They’ve communicated with the district, who’s communicated with us, that they are working on fixing the known issues. However, it’s September...we started school August 6. I hope it gets fixed soon since this is our point of communication.

Msgs not sized for a phone?. I guess it’s not meant for viewing on a phone? The messages don’t fit on a small screen and it drives me nuts haha. Also, can’t you delete old messages? I haven’t found a way yet.

Unable to log in. I’m unable to log in. It says I have to verify my account by following the instructions sent to my email, but I never received one (not in spam folder). Then, when I click resend verification email, it tells me “access is forbidden “.

:|. the idea is cool and all but it keeps blowing up my phone for messages that i already saw. it also logs me out periodically but whatever.

OK needs Landscape View. I was able to login and see messages; but with iPad (and perhaps iPhone) there is no landscape/adaptive view. So it’s pretty clunky to refer to and use with a keyboard to add notes/events to calendar/email etc.

Can't change schools. I could not find an option anywhere to change our school when we moved. Your school choice seems permanently linked to your email address. No FAQs or contact information to get help with this either.

Please Fix. App is not working can not sign up

Too slow. If my school didn’t make me use this, I would have laughed at this puny excuse of a school tool. The data is so slow, that it takes 30 seconds just to get you in the app. The controls are super retarded, it looks as if a kindergartner coded this. If you seriously think this is a great app, go look somewhere else.

Needs Work. Lots of potential, and helpful to have an app for school communication, but some problems that make this app not very fun to use: - Can't delete messages - a side-swipe just opens the message. - Can't scroll up or down on messages feed - hope you don't access to anything earlier than the 8 most recent messages! - Message format feels like iOS circa 2008 - just an email formatted (poorly) into a phone app. - Even when zooming in by clicking the very small plus-button, text size is small - When entering the app via lock screen notification, it often takes you to the sign-in screen, sometimes even making you sign back into the app. - No 3D Touch capability (naturally) Overall it feels like someone wrote this who hasn't used iOS except to write this app. If I were an administrator who didn't want to agitate parents, I would steer clear of this one until they make this parent app less cumbersome for the end-user.

Great app!. It is a seamless working app. Easy to navigate.

Awful. This app has so many issues. It’s irritating that my school district chose it as our means of communication with parents. 1. It’s cute that parents can ❤️ a message but there is no way to find out who it is that liked it. 2. I can only send one picture at a time and half the parents can’t download it. 3. When I send out a group message and a parent comments, I can’t comment back to them directly. The whole group can see my message. It makes me look dumb. Instead I have to go back try and find that parent and remember what they asked and respond separately. There definitely has to be a better way to do all this. Too many bugs to list. It is awful. 😡 I hope they can fix all this or my district can find an app that is easy, convenient, and actually WORKS!

The best app I ever use. Love this app very reliable, and very informative.

Bad app!. This app worked at the beginning then it wouldn’t let me log in because it said that my E-mail didn’t match the one at the school so I stop by to ask and they let me know that it was the same E-mail in the System! I seems like no one knows how to work this school messenger at the school. So i’ll be out the loop on any information the teacher has for my son!!!!!!!!

Change School. Pls. provide an option to change school district, school when move to other States.. The School we move in have this app and when I sign up, my Kids School is the old one.. How can I change to the new School? Tanks!

Confusing and. This appearance and navigation in this app are pretty bad for such limited functionality.

Not Improved. Right from the start you can tell this is a dog. It asked for an email address and as soon as you put in a single letter it comes up with an invalid format message. Same with password. Says you need a number even when you give it one. Try to use the ‘see’ password option... doesn’t work. Add this to what other reviewers have said and there’s little reason to get involved.

Buggy and laggy. Too many button presses to log in. Also when messages appear and I log in, it crashes. Why do I have to select which country on log in? Surely that can be set against my account details which is unique to me. Slow clunky interface. This should be quick and simple.

It’s great!. It’s just great!

Poor Quality. This app had the potential to be great but currently it falls way short. There is no way to switch between children if you have multiple. There are multiple spots for messages all with the same message but no way to know what child the teacher is referencing. The app doesn’t stay logged in and the formatting is obviously not meant for a phone. Please fix this if you are going to market it to schools for a communication tool.

Verification email. I can’t get an email sent to even start my verification?!

So disappointed. After getting my colleagues and classroom parents all pumped up about using this app, I could not be more disappointed with the outcome. Currently, my school has the largest amount of participants signed on district-wide (85%). All I keep hearing is that School Messenger is ineffective. When I’ve asked why, here’s what I’ve heard: 1. It’s super laggy (slow). 2. It won’t allow me to post pictures/files. 3. It’s slow to load. 4. The font is really small with no ability to enlarge font size. 5. It only orients portrait on my iOS devices. (A landscape option would be nice). 6. My parents are complaining of not receiving my messages. 7. My parents are complaining of having text messages forwarded to inactive landlines. When they’ve attempted to update the account with current phone numbers, the app won’t allow them to. 8. Another parent complained of receiving messages in a language not spoken at home. All in all, the parents and staff at my school are preferring to use Remind or Class Dojo over School Messenger. If things don’t change fast, you’re going to lose your clientele.

Messenger no longer works. Worked twice, now I can’t send attendance messages

Okay. This app is okay, but why do we have to login every time we get a message? Is there a way to save your login info, so you don’t have to sign in for every notification!

SchoolMessenger Info Center. I just downloaded this App. Had hoped for a little more within the App. Example: We use School Messenger at the school I work for, my kid's school also uses School Messenger. The email addresses in those systems are not the same. It appears as if you have to log out of one account (email address) and then log in as another account (different email address). The ability to kink multiple email address or school systems to a single account would make the App easier to use. It is new, so I expect this will be a common suggestion and change in a future version.

Unable to update info or preferences in the app. 1. There is no way to update my contact info through the app. Even the “delete number” option is greyed out and non-responsive when I click on it. 2. When I try to update my preferences on which types of communication I want to receive, there is no way to save the preferences. This is the lamest school app I’ve tried. P. S. I’m the communications manager for a private school system. It’s hard to believe that one of the premier school districts in the Kansas City area (SMSD) can’t afford a decently functional app.

One Step Above Crap. This app is barely useable. It gets two stars for being a gateway for me to set communication preferences with my daughter's school district, but that's all. Alerts go off repeatedly (just got five in a row for one new message), and messages cannot realistically be viewed in the app (there's only a small viewing window, and text in that window cannot be resized, so you get a small window with a big-text message you need to slide around to actually read). I will be strongly encouraging my district to find another app for parent-notifications and -communications.

I can’t log in and your email never been delivered. I have an account but your email never been delivered. I have a trouble communicating with my kids school. Please help.

Really great app!. Really enjoy having this app and what it lets me do! Reviewing old messages, setting my own preferences as well as being able to speak with teachers makes life so much easier!
