Who can enroll?
The Attain program is available to Aetna commercial medical members aged 18 and above and with participating plans. Other eligibility and participation requirements, including certain state restrictions and exclusion, may apply.

How do I earn rewards?
Hit your activity goals and complete healthy actions to earn points. Activity goals are based on your weight and sex. Some healthy actions are based on your personal health history. Meet your weekly activity goals and complete healthy actions to earn enough points each month to cover your Apple Watch payment (if eligible). Or use your points to get gift cards from popular retailers. Find out which rewards you’re eligible for by downloading and logging in to Attain.

Do I need an Apple Watch?
Yes. Activity from your Apple Watch — along with your Aetna health history — powers the program.

How can I earn an Apple Watch?
Order a base model in Attain then pay it off with points over 24 months. All you’ll pay initially is a one-time activation fee plus sales tax. You can choose to upgrade to a different model for an additional up-front cost. You will use the points you earn in Attain to cover all or part of the monthly payment of your Apple Watch.

What if I already have my own Apple Watch?
If you already have your own Apple Watch, you can use your points on gift cards from popular retailers.

*Goals and suggested health actions should not replace your doctor’s advice. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from meeting your goals, or if your doctor advises you not to take part in physical activity, there may be an opportunity for you to earn the same reward in a different way.

**Eligibility for particular incentives varies by health plan type and location, including availability of Apple Watch as a reward. 💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

I wanted an Apple Watch. I wanted an Apple Watch because it worked better for the walking challenge we did at work plus I have an iPhone. But I didn’t want to pay $300 for a smart watch when I already had one. But I was getting ready to cave then a co-worker told me about the app and the deal with the watch. It has helped me get back into a healthier lifestyle even motivated me to sign back up for the gym and my kids are enjoying the walks we take so it’s helping us enjoy family time together too! And they are very understanding I emailed them a few days ago because I hurt my ankle and the walking actions were going to be impossible and they made accommodations for me to take the time I need to recover. I’m so happy my co-worker told me about the app and I even brought it up in one of our staff meetings because I knew a lot of my other co-workers were on the verge of purchasing their own watches as well

Great app, not so great execution. Before I downloaded the app and began, I read several of the reviews to see how it worked. Even after the mostly negative reviews I decided to give it a shot seeing as I’m pretty active I didn’t see it being an issue hitting the weekly goals. We run 5k/10k’s, OCR races as well as do Crossfit 4/5 days a week consistently. That being said even the most active fit person needs a rest day every once in a while so it’s actually counterproductive to be forced to meet the goals 7 days a week or miss the goals. The $2 per week if you don’t meet them won’t break the bank but it’s just how quickly it jumps up to the higher number of days to meet the weekly goals that is rather frustrating. I’ve liked the ideas I’ve read from others about the increasing average. Maybe we could come up with a better more motivating answer to make this app more appealing and the users more successful at meeting their fitness goals. After all healthier members helps the whole group!

Bugged checkout experience. [update] I was having a rough day and I apologize for how harsh I was. I was able to try again later that night and get my order in. Not sure what the issue was - same OS version. Nothing that I know of changed. I will update to four stars until I give the core app experience a try. I still think your initial UX would improve a lot with a different solution for selecting the watch. For example, I use my digital Apple Card for online purchases, but there’s no way for me to switch over to my wallet app and get my card info for your purchase form because this causes your web app flow to refresh. [original] Couldn’t get a new Apple Watch through the app because the forms would reload as you complete them - erasing all inputted data. Even before this complete show stopper, the checkout process would kick me back to the start for something as simple as jumping to a different app and then back. Seems like one of those half-baked solutions where the mobile app is taking you through a web app flow. I would’ve loved to just order my watch from the website (since this is just a web app form that you are seeing through the window of a mobile app), but you are forced to go through the mobile app purchase flow which has an awful user experience. If this tells me anything about how the app experience is going to go, I think I’ll just pay for the watch..

Motivation?. Overall I am happy with the app and am happy to be able to “work off” the payment for an Apple Watch. But like others I have a problem with when you get to 7 days required for the weekly bonus. This isn’t like training for a marathon, the requirements aren’t so strenuous that you need a day of rest. The goals seem pretty much like push yourself a little more than usual and you’ll meet your goal. So I’m not going to complain about the 7 days as a whole. But, as a source of motivation, I think it’s bad. If you miss one day, that’s it. Your week is shot, and you will pretty much have to pay something for the watch that month. There is no margin of error and it is not possible to make up the 2000 points for that week by any other means other than paying the $2 for that missed weekly bonus. And again, the $2 isn’t the end of the world either. I just don’t think that is effective in motivation. To me, it feels more punitive if you don’t hit your goal. If it was maybe changed to a weekly average or something, you would have the motivation to work more to make up that difference. As of now, if you have a work trip or something and are unable to do much on Monday, then there is no motivation to do anything for the rest of that week, because you cannot make it up.

Goals are not realistic.. Update: 2/9/23. The app also seams glitchy. They say it connects to your watch and can upload info from 30 days in the past if not connected to the app or the phone. What I have found to be reality is if you don’t log into the app on your phone for a few days it logs you out. After this happens any log data you accumulate on your watch will not sync with the app after logging back in. I have multiple days with ether no data or it says the watch was not connected. However I wear my watch daily. The only thing that changes is I’m not looking at the app daily. Maybe a couple times per week. It’s annoying as it cheats you out of those points. Original review: I would give this a 5 star because it does get you moving and makes you realize when your not doing much. However the goals are unrealistic. Even days when I do a substantial amount of working out I have trouble making the goal for one day. Then every time you make your weekly goal they go and raise the goal to more days. Makes it difficult to achieve when your constantly loosing. Personally I don’t even look at the daily goal any more. The weekly challenges I do try to accomplish and typically they are achievable with a little extra work. If your using the app to get a free Apple Watch don’t. I would say im fairly active and using it for 3 months have only achieved 10,000 points which is $10.

Working out by someone else’s rules. Overall, this app does what it advertises it to do. Encourage people to become more active by providing a set goal and rewarding them for attaining that goal. The app provides the set goal of meeting the required caloric burn for a set period of time as well as some bonus points if you complete the daily challenge of the week by doing specific activities like breathing exercises, walking more than a certain amount of steps or miles a day. It has changed the way I approach how to be more active on a daily basis over the past year. The only two issues that I think about 1)the logout issue continues to persist forcing me to check daily to avoid being logged out. The developer is correct that if you are logged out, as long as you login again with 90 days, you can recover your activity but it still seems weird that this is needed. 2) the bulk of points are designed and are achieved by meeting the weekly caloric goal by exercising “x” amount of days which steadily increase until it asks you to achieve the goal about 6 days a week. So the app works if you are just trying to meet your calorie burn goal, create more active lifestyle and potentially get a free watch, but in terms of fitness, this app does little to help with actual weight loss.

Tedious. So many issues. I tried to work with this app for months. Like other reviewers have mentioned, you can’t adjust the daily calorie goal, and if you’re regularly meeting your weekly goal it will keep upping the days per week that you need to meet your daily goal, until you’re having to meet it 7 days a week. The app also regularly logs you out. Far more frustrating was that the app would regularly mark a day as “incomplete” even though I had burned far past my daily calorie goal. In the details for that day it would have a workout from that day listed, say, for 200 calories burned - but right above that it would say that I only burned 5 total calories for that day. For months I messaged back and forth with customer service about the issue; they kept adjusting it manually, providing the same troubleshooting recommendations that I had already tried, and failing to fix the issue. I withdrew from the program and deleted the app. Not nearly worth the headache.

Okay App. I have been using this app for at least 2 years. I agree with many others that the 7 day a week activity expectation was too much and a definite motivation killer when you missed a day, especially early in the week and knew no matter what you did the rest of the week you weren’t getting your weekly points. It made it easy to be lazy! With the change to 6 days a week I am definitely happier and most of the time hit 7 anyway. There are still a few things I think they need to look at doing that would make the app better. I would like to see statistics as to how I compare to others in my age group. I would also like to see the app designed for a walking pace that would make adjustments for elevation differences. I find it frustrating to look and see my “trend” showing a 19 and 20 minute mile when I am constantly dealing with the mountains and hills in my area and not walking flat streets. Maybe I should be logging that cardio under hiking instead of an outdoor walk, I don’t know. All in all I think the app does what it’s designed to do which is to keep you looking for ways to improve your health (I personally detest the “breathing” and “flexibility” challenges so being forced to do those weeks activities to get my points becomes a matter of my personal pride and keeps me on task). I also enjoy the periodic reward of a gift card when you have enough points. It’s not a lot but every little bit helps, right?

Not a Fan. I’ve used this app for about two years now. The first year and a half, I loved it. I’m had zero issues and found myself really enjoying setting goals and being able to track my progress. Now, the app is just an exercise in frustration. One- it never keeps me logged on like it used to so instead of just clicking on the app and all of my information popping up, I have to log on every dang time. I have gone through every setting possible and this is not user error but the app itself. Two- the activity count on my watch and what translate over to the app is off not just a little bit a lot. It used to never have any problems then just a miss or two and now in the past several months there are massive errors of several days a week. Lastly- reaching out to customer service is a joke. Sometimes they answer. Often times they do not and the problems haven’t been remedied they’ve only gotten worse. Such a bummer.

Not worth the trouble. If you already have an apple watch this app may be fun for you to be rewarded for exercise. But in my experience paying off the watch through Attain has been a waste of time and money. I find the app to be extremely glitchy and frustrating and there are many poor aspects of the app that have not been fixed the last year or more I have been using the app (i.e. being constantly logged out). Even living a very active lifestyle it’s often hard for me to get enough points to cover the watch each month. If I hit my active goals for the week they’ll increase the number of days per week I have to hit the goal. Mine is often at 6 days/week which is kind of ridiculous. Even if it is not particularly difficult for me to hit the daily goal, rest is also important when living an active lifestyle. I think it’s problematic you cannot set these goals yourself. Basing how many calories I should be burning off of just my sex and weight is not a good standard. I think you should be allowed to set the calorie goal yourself or it should be based on exercise minutes instead. When I first started I wanted to give Aetna the benefit of the doubt since the app was still pretty new, but it has barely (if at all) improved since then. If I had known this app would be so difficult to work with I never would have signed up.

Rules you don’t know. The app is okay and I like earning rewards. However, there are rules you don’t know. For example, if you close a notification about refilling a prescription for 400 points, you won’t get the points even if you refill the prescription. In fact, if you close a notification about any reward, you lose out on the ability to earn the points. Who knew? Further, if you don’t close out a notification, you may miss a new notification that comes in below it. A little bizarre. Perhaps a development flaw? Even more discouraging is that, even if you’re working out, using the breathing app for mindfulness, running, walking, biking, etc., there are no rewards for achieving healthy results even if you are going above and beyond. Better watch for the week’s theme or you will miss out, even if you’re hitting it out of the park in other areas.

One size feed all problem.. I’m a 55 years old man who played sports a good part of his life. I have old injuries, bad knees and ankles, among other. I like to stay active, but I can’t force my body beyond my limits. I bought the Apple Watch, not because I’m a teenager dreaming with one, but as a motivational tool to help me exercise 3 times a week without having to incur in any additional expense (paying my watch with points earned through exercising). Now my goals have gone from 3 days to 6 days of exercise per week!!! which is hurting my knees badly. I wrote to attain and they suggest for me to go to the dr To get a report of my injuries. So I should spend money, time, and the risk of getting a virus at my dr’s to justify exercising 3 times a week which is what most physicians recommend for people my age even without any injury.....I offer to return the watch and get my money back, but I’m still waiting on any resolution. So be careful those who think this is a personalized plan, it is not, and then you might be stock with payment for several year (for as little as those payments may be)....

This App is amazing. The Attain App is amazing with it’s constant encouragement to move and be active daily, with challenges and goals to meet, even ideals and suggestions to use my Apple Watch Apps for exercises, how to breathe properly, even educated and encourage you to get the proper rest, from bad eating habits with suggestions on how to make better choices, all to Help us with Healthy habits, I love it and need it, it’s easy to get out of control, at least it is for me. Oh plus they have Rewards, yes, gift cards!!! What a great incentive to reward me for reaching my goal for the day and completing challenges or just reading and trying their suggestions. What a great resource of healthy information. It really has helped me a lot. Thank you Attain

Update Failure. I was so excited for the new update that would allow for a day of rest. I updated on a Monday & it said it would reformat the following week. Since then (3 weeks later) the weekly workout activity goal is missing. This is how you know how many days are needed to workout to get the bonus points. It’s just blank. Which means even if i worked out all 7 days I wouldn’t get the points b/c it’s not registering the workouts. So far I’m out 6,000 points and who knows if it’ll get fixed b/c according to my Customer Service call, apparently I’m the only one having this problem. I was told I would get a call back in 48 hours... it’s been a week. I’ve sent emails...no replies. But of course the part of the app that charges you for the month, making sure to take the 8,000 points required even if you aren’t able to earn them, is working fine. So frustrating. I am now on week 5 of no weekly activity goal. Which means I’m out 10,000 points now. I never got a call back from the rep that said she’d call me back. I called customer service again this week & another rep told me there was no record of my emails or previous phone calls!!! And I asked her to manually give me the points (which the follow up to reviews on here ALWAYS alleges they will do)and have not received any of them. I am so frustrated. It used to be the 7 day workout week that annoyed me, now that that’s resolved I can’t even get points for any workouts!

A year later and LOVE it!!. I have been using the app for a little over a year now it’s so great!! The goals are set for you and are totally attainable. The daily goal set for me is 450- 6 days a week and there has only been 1 week that I did not reach my goal. I have my personal daily goal set to 620 so the attain goal is not difficult at all. On rest days I usually only get to 350 so Attain motivates me to at least get a walk or yoga workout in to reach my goal. It’s great motivation to move your body!!! In my opinion everyone could benefit from this program. I ask all my friends if they have Aetna so I can recommend this program. I was skeptical before I signed up because of the reviews from people saying their goal was unattainable- bottom line, they aren’t moving their bodies enough. This is totally doable! I also like the challenges they have to earn more points- I have earned $100 in gift cards so far. I am in the best shape of my life at 35 after having 3 kids, thank you Apple and Aetna!!!!!!

More of a review of program. Make your goal? The next week it will Jack your days up... and keep doing this until you have to meet your calorie burn 7 days a week, with no rest days. Eventually, if you can’t sustain the 7 days, you get no points for meeting goals. Which means, for me, for example, I will not ever get my watch paid for just by activity alone unless I’m a robot! The other activities are small points and barely contribute toward meaningful pay down of the cost of the watch. So what do you do? Miss a month of goals so you can get it back down to 3x a week that you can manage, knowing that once you do, the cycle starts all over again. In short, this program doesn’t motivate me. It frustrates and makes me feel worse because the goals eventually get unreasonable. It asks for 500 calories of burn for me and on a good day, I can get 300. For me to get all 500 it would be an hour and a half on the bike every single day. This program actually sets you up to fail by being too rigid in the expectations. 4 days a week is reasonable. 7 days of hard exercise a week for 2,000 points, $2 toward the watch, is a lot to ask. So only do this if you are OK with them singing your credit card each month for the watch payment. Don’t think you will actually be able to earn the watch payment every month as advertised, because you won’t. They don’t tell you at sign up how they lure you in and then change the expectations on you. Caveat emptor.

Ok if could set realistic daily goals and purchase watch through app.. Started to use this app as was offered by my early insurance and incentive to get moving. I tried to order the watch and was never able to, would take me to start of app. After several attempts to order Apple Watch and not able to as app kept freezing, in order to get app to work had to click on have my own watch. Needless to say had to purchase a watch and cost of paying up front to get so to work wish I could have gotten through app and pay monthly. I called customer service to inform of what happened and they advised they would eventually offer purchase of watch to those who couldn’t purchase due to app issues, this was a year ago and still nothing. Liked the idea of paying monthly and use points to pay for watch monthly but that didn’t happen for me. Would still like to get watch through app as watch I purchased is not working well. Goals of hitting 750 daily points is somewhat attainable if you are very active. Even working in a shipping and receiving area I don’t reach my daily goal unless I track other work out from moving packages and walking around to deliver packages as nonstop for 30-45 mins. Goes from 3 times a week to 7 days to achieve daily goal. Watch is set to 600 as daily goal, most days I reach this but app has me at 750 and don’t reach this goal so much. Wish there was a way to change this to a more realistic goal.

Wouldn’t let me get free watch or log in. I tried getting the watch and it would say error. I tried all day and it wouldn’t work so I decided to click on the got my own watch option to see if it’ll error as well. It didn’t but I didn’t have my own watch so when I unsigned up to reselect my choice, it takes me to the log in page where I would use my Aetna login and once in it says “thanks for your interest in Attain” and says not enrolled with an OK at the bottom. When I click on the ok button it just takes me back to the log in page. Why is it hard to download and use the option of getting a free watch to exercise if that is what the company wants you to do? To work on your fitness goals. The only thing I worked on today was my frustration levels and how much I can take from an app before I lose my cool.

Crashes, buggy, not well thought out. I don't usually leave reviews for apps, but after having used this for over a year I feel like I've seen enough to make an honest judgement. When I first downloaded it I thought maybe they were still working out the kinks because it was so buggy- I would get signed out randomly, or the app wouldn't pair to my watch, or it would retrospectively zero out my daily calorie total two days after the fact - which actually made me miss my weekly goal once, even after I sent feedback within the app to let them know, I was never contacted or given the points back. I agree with other reviewers that the incentive structure is not as good as it could be- if you miss a day early in the week there's no way for you to make it up and it's easy to slack off after that. If there were daily goals where you could still get points even after missing your weekly, it would actually help you out of motivational slumps. I really appreciate what they are TRYING to do with this app I just feel like they made a sort of half-way attempt at it. It's also somehow even buggier NOW than it was a year ago, and it logs me out every single time I close the app, which really deters me from even using it at all. I would stop using it right now if i wasn't still in the process of paying off my watch. I used to be eager to check it every day and now if anything it's just a nuisance. It's a huge missed opportunity in my opinion, as the idea was good but the execution was a C-.

Unrealistic goals. I love the idea of this app and the fact that Aetna offers it, but the execution is absolutely horrible. They set your calorie goal higher than the goal on your Apple Watch, which is fine, I get that it has to be a challenge. But then once you hit that goal 3 days a week, they raise the number of days you have to hit the goal to 4, then 5, then 6, then 7. Then the goal stays at 7 days a week and if you want the goal to go back down, you have to miss it for 4 weeks (and lose your extra 1000 points all 4 weeks, essentially meaning you get no points those weeks). It is not realistic or healthy for people to be expected to reach the high calorie goal set by this app 7 days a week EVERY SINGLE WEEK! I work out 5 days a week every week and I’m usually active on the weekends, and I shouldn’t be punished for wanting to take 1 rest day per week! This app should not, under any circumstances, make 7 days per week the goal and punish you for not hitting that goal.

Great Fitness Accountability. I love the way this program is designed and how user friendly the app is. The daily challenges are fun and educational. It’s very easy to track your progress and keeps you accountable in staying active and healthy, with great motivation. However, the app does often log you out or crashes pretty frequently. The other thing I don’t like about the program is the way the weekly goals are determined. The way they determine your average goal for the next week based on the previous week does not make much sense, so it’s been a little hard to get any amount of points worth redeeming for prizes, especially after points are used to pay for the watch. I know that’s not the case for everyone though! It’s very different person to person. Overall I’m fairly pleased with the program.

Attain: growth encouraged. I’m gonna have to disagree with the other reviews for the most part. I’ve had the app for a little over half a year and been keeping up off and on, not as much as I should... but working on it! The activity goal starts at 3 days and moves up. My current daily goal is 600, I believe because that is what my watch is set to. If I do any exercise that day, including a chill 30 minute walk, I’m fairly likely to hit that goal. I am currently training for a half marathon and most days are easy to hit. Off days are more of a challenge, but I appreciate the goal of some movement, as I don’t take rest days to mean non-existent movement. That said, there are a couple bugs with points though they are typically uploaded later to compensate. They have daily information/goals to try which add some flavor to with mental, physical, social, and spiritual health. Was very impressed by these. I earned a $50 gift card to this point, and I think that is fair, considering I’m being paid for being healthy. Thanks for the motivation and half off Nike shoes, guys!!

The first time I’ve ever hit my work out goals!!. I have an Apple Watch and was already checking on steps and trying to close things. To get paid, even if it’s a little, is so worth it to me because I’m ALREADY doing this. This app makes moving so easy!! I’ve had no real problems and have cashed out about $50 worth of gifts cards so far..... what’s not to like about that?? I also appreciate the apps tips and the fact that they go beyond “hey go run” but also include mental health and stress management, all necessary for healthy living. The only thing I’d change is including a tab that houses all the tips and tricks I’ve already “learned” for me to review if I want to or maybe challenge myself to do them again if it isn’t a habit yet.

No Committed To Health!!!. Without any reason Aetna cut off my access to this app and it was really helping me with health, wellness, and physical fitness. It just said randomly that it was cutting off my access and good luck! My work situation has not changed. I still have Aetna insurance! To add insult to injury, I was about 200 points away from getting another gift card. I can’t help but think that somehow this is a scam at worst or a sop to Aetna’s policy holders. If I were you I wouldn’t bother. ******** ADDENDUM I called the customer service line and after getting bounced around the queue 3-4 times and returned to the “main menu” every time someone told me they would elevate my issue immediately. It’s been four weeks and I never got my last 200 points and no one has even bothered to respond. Typical of this company whose apps are anything BUT user-friendly. Now I don’t even have access my account so I’ve deleted the app. What a rip-off!

Doesn’t track fitness information correctly. I use this app in conjunction with my Apple Watch. Our health insurance offered a plan to get the watch for free if and only if we keep up an active lifestyle. The issues is that they slowly upped the amount of active calories that made it almost impossible for us to hit our active goals for the week. I am a 50+ inactive male who they started out at 3 days of ~30 minutes of actively... very doable and beneficial for me at my age and shape. Within 3 months they moved me up to almost 60-90 minutes of exercise to even get close to my goal and then they moved up my active days from 3 to 5! I am all for moving up my goals and pushing me to do better but the rate they moved us was completely impossible with my work & personal responsibilities. I talked to Aetna and they said they would make an adjustment but the adjustment lasted for 1-2 weeks and I was back to 5 days of 60-90 minutes of active movement & exercise... needless to say we have been paying for our Apple watches and not getting them for free

A great app to keep you healthy!. I started using Attain almost 2 years ago when it was suggested through Aetna, my health care provider. I’ve enjoyed the benefit of having an Apple Watch that I am able to pay for by being active. Any points above the ‘cost’ of the watch, you use to purchase gift cards so I’m basically being paid for being healthy. The Attain app sets daily goals based on your activity level and although challenging, they have been attainable. There are also activities or daily challenges that help you stay healthy and earn additional points. I have had very few questions for the support team but they have responded quickly and resolved. This is a great app if you need a little motivation to stay on track as it makes you want to close your ring and earn those points!!

I updated app and now I lost my $60 in credit!!!!!. I have been using this app for about a year, and I have currently accumulated 60k points ($60). I tried to cash out my points for a gift card tonight, but it wasn’t working. So I updated the app thinking that would help. WRONG! It now says I’m ineligible for the program and I have no way to get my gift cards. I’m so angry!!!! I worked really hard to accumulate those points. Now I wish I had never wasted my time on this program!!!!! Update: I called the main number and they said they saw I had points, but didn’t cash them out and transferred me to someone about my eligibility. She was super confused about why I was calling her. Her connection was awful and she told me to call back and gave me “her” number, then hung up on me. Her number was just the main number with the long wait to talk to a random person. That whole thing took 30 minutes. 2nd update: I called the main number. I was transferred 6 times (yes SIX TIMES) and no one could help me. I kept repeating my story and they said “I can’t help you, but this department can,” then would transfer me and I would repeat my story. The last person started talking, then their phone line cut out and they HUNG UP on me. After spending 55 minutes with NO resolution. I’m beyond angry and frustrated. What a complete waste of my time!!!! Someone send me a direct number of someone who can actually help me!!

Not realistic. Attain sets your activity goal based on weight and height. I don’t believe age is factored in. I’m almost 67 and work out at the gym 3 times a week doing strength training for an hour minimum. Each workout begins with 15 mins on the rowing machine. Another day is spent on the spin bike. Pretty active for my age but it also means I need rest days in between my workouts. Attain wants me to achieve my move goal 7 days a week. It’s not reasonable nor is it physically good for my body. Instead of the app/watch being an inspiration to move it has become a source of frustration. I burn a weeks worth of calories in 4 days but get nothing towards the purchase of my watch because I didn’t do it for 6 or 7 days. Flawed program. Update: I’ve been using this app for almost 18 months. Not sure what’s going on but I’m having trouble getting my daily activities for extra credit to track. Some days it does, other days not. I have to contact Attain customer service and provide a screenshot because God forbid they should believe me. Once my watch is paid for through the program I’m done with this app.

Unrealistic goals and shady practices. When I first started the program there was no clear Understanding of the points system and how you earn them. It also set what I felt was a highly unrealistic goal for my daily calories burned. As someone who was working out prior to the watch I would’ve been doing 2 hr peloton rides to hit the goal. Shortly after joining the program there was an update to the points system hitting your daily goal now only earned 10 points as opposed to the 250 it had been earning. There was also a significant change to the points for the weekly goal. I assume the goal was to drive more interaction within the app as the only way to possibly earn enough points to not owe anything is to visit the app daily to amuse the developers by pressing a button. I didn’t sign up for this and was railroaded into the new points system because the only other option was to withdraw with over half the balance remaining on my watch.

Great motivation. I installed this app over a year ago and agree with some of the comments below about the seven day goals. Attain a listen to the comments and reduce the girls down to six days. Attain pays attention to the feedback they receive. My job has me in front of a computer all day. This app keeps me on track to move throughout the day. It is sometimes tough to reach the 12 hour standing goal but is great to keep me on track. They also offer challenges throughout different parts of the year so that you can obtain more points and help improve your Health. I feel in the last year that my overall physical stamina has drastically improved . I would be lost if this app goes away.

Great design, some tech issues. This app is really effective and engaging. It gently pushes you to do more and gets you excited about seeing your progress while keeping it interesting with a variety of ways to earn points. It has a nice friendly feel and is easy to use with the Apple Watch. My complaint is that it makes me log in constantly, like almost every day, and often has technical glitches that cause the Healthy Actions to not load. Happens about 5 times a week. If I forget to force a log in or don’t refresh the app, I don’t get notifications and I frequently miss the daily healthy actions points opportunities. Super frustrating, and would earn any other app a max of two stars, so it says a lot about how much I enjoy using it when it works. Still, great design and behavior change support means nothing if your stuff just doesn’t work—please fix this. Thanks!

Unrealistic goals. I have been training for a half-marathon for 2 months and I play volleyball twice a week for over 2 hours each time, amongst other physical activities. Although, I was able to reach the goals the app established for me at the beginning, now the goals are unattainable. The app now asks me to train 6 days a week at over 530 active calories each of those 6 days. If you train properly, your body requires rest and recovery, which makes this app’s requirements both unattainable and risky for your health. As an example - one day I ran 7 miles and burned 1000 calories and the next day, I ran 2 miles for recovery and burned approximately 320 calories. Therefore, I missed my goal for the entire week because one of the six training days I didn’t hit 530 calories. As I Continue my training I haven't reached my goals for 4 weeks. I am glad I didn’t sign up for the watch or I would be upset because it’s simply not achievable - even for an athlete. While I appreciate the idea of the app to incentivize more exercise, excessive exercise does not mean health.

The other reviews are accurate. I got this app because it was a part of my insurance plan’s wellness benefits. Previously when I had Humana, they had a great wellness incentive program and I was hopeful this would be the same. It was ok at first, but has gotten progressively more frustrating and less motivating. It’s always a mystery if you’ll get your points for the healthy actions. The most recent one I had was to track any workout from the workout app for more than 30 minutes. I never got those points despite doing this all three days it was an option. You are also expected to hit your move goal seven days a week. If you’re training for something like a half marathon, this is not very realistic, as you are supposed to take rest days. And the points you get for doing a day’s worth is so minimal that it isn’t motivating to do it if you can’t get the weekly bonus. The Humana program made it worthwhile to hit your movement goal daily, and it was very motivating. It seems clear that this was something they felt they “had” to do but that they have no real interest in actually paying out any incentives. If they did, it was be structured differently and would be more motivating. I’m just glad I bought my own Apple Watch and am not trying to earn it through this!

Ok system, still a good deal!. I’ve been using this app for a year now. Like others my weekly goal goes up if I hit it until I have to make it all 7 days. The goal is not particularly hard to reach- I don’t even have to get a workout to get it. As long as I’m not a couch potato I’m good. But every now and then I need a couch potato day. Or I’m sick, forget to wear my watch, need to charge it, or can’t wear it because I’m doing something (like painting). One day missed, and my entire week is shot- thus losing motivation and at times giving me an excuse to be lazy the rest of the week. If I miss my weekly goal 2 weeks in a row, my weekly goal goes back down...until I reach it again. So at this point I’m usually only getting my weekly goal 2 out 4 weeks in a month. I almost always miss it one day a week. A year in, I still haven’t paid a dollar for my watch. I had enough accumulated points with the extra actions to cover my missed weeks. I’ll probably have to start paying in the next month or so. $8 a month isn’t a bad deal for an Apple Watch- realistically it’ll be more like $4 a month for a year. 🤷‍♀️ So it’s a flawed system, but still a good deal. But if their point was to motivate....the system needs to be reworked a little.

Needs Work. I’ve had the app for about 4 months now and have managed to get around $25 in points. It would have been way more if I didn’t get my goal put at 7 days a week. I am pretty active and can usually hit my calorie goal for the day just going to class and work but 7 days a week is absurd. I quit using the app for awhile because I was tired of trying to hit that crazy goal and always failing. Also discouraged by the fact that you get the same amount of points for completing 3 days/ week goal as you do a 7 days/ week goal. Additionally I get so frustrated because my app will log me out at random times. I will have a really good week and go to check the app and it had logged me out at the end of last week. I don’t have time to check the app every day and make sure it is still logged in. I understand it may be a safety concern to let you stay logged in but that is also a necessity of the app (to see your activity 24/7). So I’ve definitely missed out on a lot of points because of this. Not to mention that it won’t let you save your info and log in with your face which would make the situation a little easier. I had high hopes but have ended up very disappointed. I am also discouraged seeing all of the reviews from the past saying the same thing as mine. Please listen to us and improve the app. Or stop marketing it as something that is ATTAIN-able.

Only did it bc of the watch... Honestly this app is terrible. You get booted out several times a week. The weekly goals are ridiculous. For example, I CrossFit 5 days a week. Now with my calorie goal of 420 a day I burn that with one workout, now the stupid thing is this app sees that i workout that much and will move my goal days to 6-7 days a week of workouts.. umm no. It doesn’t account for rest days, and there is absolutely no way I’m working out 7 days a week.. so if you don’t reach the stupid goal you don’t get the points, and then they set this stupid goal for 3 weeks in a row of 6-7 days of workouts. So for 3 freakin weeks I won’t get the 2,000 points for the watch. Then after 3 weeks of me not reaching the goal is moved it back to 4 days a week, and it’s a vicious cycle. I hate it, I hate this app. It’s absolutely worthless. The only thing is that I have a free Apple Watch. That’s is. Otherwise I do NOT recommend. Waste of time and space on your phone. 100% irritating.

Good Incentive/Reinforcement Tool - algorithm needs adjusting.. Love the positive reinforcement of good behaviors - including exercising, food, and mental health. However the more you work out, the more the app expects. If you hit 7 days in a week of working out, it expects 7 the following week. You have to miss the higher goal twice before it drops it back one. Suggestion: cap the number of days per week at 5; award perhaps fewer (but still significant points—1000 or 1500) for hitting 5, then do bonus points if a person does workouts days 6 and/or 7. It occasionally misses a workout day causing me to miss the weekly goal. I tried reporting using the “contact us” and nothing ever happened. There ought to be a simple way to report an error and get it corrected. Also, there doesn’t appear to be a way to “logout”, even though occasionally it asks me to login after an update?

I’m probably going to be buying this watch. Update: It did it all through the Attain games. It’s doing it again now. You can’t click on anything. You can’t log out of the app. Honestly, whoever is in charge of this app should be fired. It doesn’t work more often than it does. AND every recent review is complaining about the same problem, yet the developer’s response is always something along the lines of lines of a “it’s a you problem”. I’m telling you, this app hardly works. You will not get any of the Healthy Action points. You definitely aren’t getting any of the new Challenge points. Take any points you can or you’ll owe. It shouldn’t take so much work to make it do what it’s supposed to do. It’s a great app if you like to watch it spin and spin and spin. So frustrated and over this program. It had the potential to be great. I loved this app when I first got into the program. But, now, this app works maybe 50% of the time. I try to get into the Daily Actions but I can’t access the points. Either, the screen won’t load or when you tap on the button to say you’ve read it it doesn’t do anything. Im trying to pay off this watch with exercise and healthy actions and im getting really frustrated with this app. This app could also be improved by letting me link to my Strava account. All of my backpacking out of cell range didn’t count this summer.

Getting healthy has never been this easy. I am so happy that Aetna offers this app for getting healthy. I am currently going through a divorce so everything has been chaotic for a while. I have found that the app and Apple Watch have me paying more attention to myself and my health. The “exercises” the app brings on a daily basis are actually teaching me and giving me great ideas to change different aspects of my life. It’s not all about just physical exercise but mental health and eating habits as well. I don’t think the daily goals are unrealistic. But when I do struggle to meet a daily goal, I just know that it’s going to make me feel that much better when I do. I highly recommend this app to anyone looking to feel better and improve their health.

Deceiving. When I first sign up, it was clear in the contract, the commitment was for 3xs a week which is doable with a FT stressful job. The it turned to 4 x’s a week, then 5 xs, then 6 and then a ridiculous 7xs a week. Don’t expect to have a down day during these ridiculous stressful times or even get a cold. I would not recommend this to anyone if fact, I am sorry I signed up and may be dropping soon. This is not reasonable or ‘ATTAINABLE’ as promised and or guaranteed. Totally false advertising and misinformation. Run fast and stay away. I am an active person but this is ludicrous. They won’t answer your questions and then I’ll not adjust your goals. I will be calling the BBB on this program and Aetna. I wish I had read the reviews prior to signing up for this. In fact my husband told me this was a scam which it is. I will be reporting to the FCC also. I was promised everything you all were. Run. This is a scam. The insurance commissioner’s will be contacted as well. I heard a lot of lip service total and excuses. Also promises of changes s we’d high obviously is BS

Customer Service. I can tell that This program is intended on helping people through their wellness journey. It’s great Intention to motivate people to get up and move. I love the benefit of getting an Apple Watch in return for the wellness maintenance. The only downfall I have is when your watch battery dies, or if you forget to wear it, then the points doesn’t get counted. Then you have to jump through hoops to prove to the customer service (very rude and unprofessional) that you completed your goal. Wish there was an easier way to enter your points in if you had a situation where the watch didn’t connect. The reps work according to different standards of customer service than what I am used to and it causes so much frustration that sometimes I will just bypass the wanting to call and get it resolved. The contact is portion of the app doesn’t get monitored. I am still awaiting an email response from a year ago. I do love the program and it’s Intentions however the management of this app and it’s employees could use a lot of customer service training. I get it that the times are hard but there is no excuse for u professional customer service.

In total, really great app. I’ve had this app for 2 years now. I love this app. I had issues with frequent logins but now I only experience it 1 to 2 times a month at the most. I appreciate that the app is intuitive in pushing my goal from originally 3 days a week to now 6 days a week. It keeps me motivated to push myself. I’m not sure how often the calorie goal is increased or what intervals it’s reviewed but I’ve had the same calorie goal for about 1 year. Even with my ability to meet and exceed the goal for weeks on end, I still have the same goal. I’m not complaining but I’m curious how it works. I LOVE the attain games that have been done in the past. They are fun and push you to meet new goals! The only issue I’ve experienced with the app is goals tracked for time (i.e. complete a 15 min workout to receive points). In some cases I’ve completed the goal but wasn’t awarded the points and the day passes and there’s no way to go back. I have no way of seeing it in my points history either as it just says “completed healthy action”. Other than small issues, overall the app is great! I’ve earned lots of points and I love being able to get gift cards to help with gift buying during birthdays or holidays. The only thing I’ve seen from others that was not offered to me was the ability to purchase an Apple Watch. I’ve had my Apple Watch for 4-5 years and I would’ve loved a new one if I was offered the ability to purchase one.

Goals/rewards SIGNIFICANTLY different than my husbands. My husband & I both signed up for the attain app together. We have really enjoyed using it overall...but recently began noticing that my goals & rewards were significantly different than my husbands. Some of the goals might be the same, but the rewards for my SAME goal would be a fraction of what my husband received for doing the SAME goal. Now, my goal is MORE than my husband’s...for again just a fraction of the reward! This past week’s difference: His goal is 15 minutes of logged workout for 400 points. MY goal is 30 (yes, THIRTY) minutes of logged workout for 50 (yep, ONLY FIFTY) points!!! He did the math & he gets 8x’s the points of what I can earn this week! Somebody care to explain how that is even remotely fair! I’ve tried at least twice now to contact them to see if anything could be done...& have yet to hear anything! I was originally very pleased with & enjoyed using this app...now, am getting a mite frustrated.

I don’t recommend this app. This app offers a program where you get a free apple watch if you meet your daily challenges. It uses the data from your fitness app to record the points. Unfortunately my points aren’t always accurately accounted for and I end up having to pay a fee at the end of the month. I am pretty active so according to my fitness app I perform well above the daily requirements. Its just not recorded on the attain app. I have emailed letters to tech support with no response, and called. Finally got someone when I called but had to pretend I was calling about signing up cause thats the only way to get through to someone. Was told my account would be credited. And it was not. My points still aren’t being recorded correctly. My coworker is experiencing the same issues. The attain app is constantly signing me out as well which is really annoying.

Love this app, it’s a great motivator. I have been using this app for more than a year now and I just love it. Does the app has issues sometimes? Yes. But they are resolved too. I recently had a major issue with the app where it stopped recording my active energy daily/ weekly goals. I reached out to the support and the team was super helpful they provided me with multiple ways to fix the problem but unfortunately it was a bug. But as soon as the update was released the agent I was communicating with reached out to me and asked to update the app and the issue got resolved and I got points for the previous goals hit too. I am looking forward to use the app more, hit the goals, participate in the challenges, and see what new things the app comes up with. Thank you Audra Reeves and Wendy for helping me with the issue!!

Realistic goals for me!. I am able to complete daily actions and earn points even while there are some weeks I haven’t met goals due to illness. I haven’t experienced the issues many have had, yes goals were increased but even then did not require me to work out every single day, but as long as I am semi-active most of the day (I.e. getting up from my desk and walking around on my break), I am still able to make my goals. I Love this app! I have had since January, “payments” for my watch started in February, I haven’t had to make a payment yet- and if I took the next month “off” I’d still have enough points to cover 2 months of payments. I love it! It’s motivating without feeling unreachable. Today I actually got a notification that they’ve adjusted calorie goals for members- mine actually went down, which is good for my points, as this new goal will be easy- but I am a little disappointed because my previous goal requires that I stay conscious of my movement and I had to put in at least a little effort every day to stay focused on it. Hopefully they’ll use current activity to gradually increase goals. Overall I’m very happy!

High daily calorie burn starting out. I just received this watch deal through my place of work. Only having it for one day, the calories needed to burn to reach your daily goal seems a bit high. Having primarily a sit down job, I know it will be quite the challenge to burn 520 calories in a day. But, this is for the whole day you just have to remember to wear it. But, isn’t that what it’s all about-challenge?😊 I love looking at the activities and earning those points as there will be times when those extra points are needed to go towards the monthly goal. Having the ability to roll forward some unused points is nice option to have. I am not sure I will be able to do that too often but having started off with 2 months of points allowance and earning the activity points will help with that. Or there are always those gift cards you can purchase with those earned points. I do think that it would be nice to be able to incorporate a food option with the app so that you can track your food intake. Food is a big component in a healthy lifestyle so to be able to see that all in one place would be a great addition.

Ok App. I got this app because I do stay pretty active. But hate that they set you to a mandatory 7 day goal. It’s actually stressing me out more that helping me out. Once my watch is paid off I don’t know if I’ll keep the app. I do understand that it would be pure profit afterwards for staying active but it’s really just that annoying to be held to a 7 day goal. Yes it’s supposed to encourage you but once you get 7 days it’s extremely difficult to get it lowered. What i had to do was just not wear the watch till it dropped. I think I may just do that to cheat the system. Max I think it should be 6 day with the 7th as an extra reward. You should get a day to relax and let your body recover from the week. Anyway I’m just so annoyed with it I just click on the healthy actions and not read them anymore. It’s not like they earn you much, although they do earn you more than actually going out for a run. So why actually exercise. This app needs to redo their point system, don’t really think it’s helping.

Good App & Hope it Gets Even Better. Invited to try app by insurance company and I’m happy I did. After trying other activity trackers and apps, I splurged on an Apple Watch and started Attain. After nearly a year, it’s still keeping me motivated and active. I consider the points and gift cards a bonus, so I can see why some reviewers may be frustrated if they’re trying to earn a watch. Requiring 7-day a week goals to be met is rough and I’m not sure it’s a healthy balance. At some point, life interferes and there should be a grace option to miss daily goals once or twice a week without losing all the weekly points. I’m hopeful that the app will continue to evolve with insights gained from constructive reviews.

Very good App. I like this App more than I thought I would. The goals are realistic and keep me motivated. I already exercise daily so it has been relatively easy for me to meet the calorie goals but seeing my progress really helps on those days that I am tempted to be lazy. I also really like that it focuses on other areas of wellness: reducing stress, healthy eating, etc. My husband and I like this so much that we convinced our 2 daughters to participate. So far, they are enjoying it as well. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I feel that you should be earning more points as your weekly goal gets bigger and bigger (ie moving from 3 days to 5 and up) and I am concerned about what will happen once I hit a 7 day per week goal. There should be a way to earn a rest day or, the goal should max out at 6 days a week. I agree with other reviewers that a 7 day/week goal could end up being the downfall of motivation.

What a waste of time… I wish I could give zero stars. I have been trying unsuccessfully for almost 2 years to enroll in this program. Originally I tried to order the watch and I could never get through to checkout but rather redirected to the home page. Finally I decided to just upgrade my own Apple Watch and now it won’t allow me to register my watch with the app. I just getting a spinning wheel for a few seconds and then it disappears. I have made dozens of attempts to call the contact number and they are always unable to take my call according the answering service and they don’t even give you the option to leave a message for call back. There is also no other way to contact them listen online. Any link you find online just redirects you to the app download page and no help is available.

Doesn’t work. I ordered my watch through the app on March 24, got the watch on April 4 (Sunday). The activity screen showed that my watch had been ordered, but didn’t appear to have registered that I had already received and paired the new watch. On the actions screen, there was a red bubble notification telling me that my first goal would arrive on Monday. Monday came and went, these screens stayed the same. The following Monday (4/12), the notification bubble was gone, I still had no activities but the activity screen still showed that my watch was only ordered. I have the attain app working on the watch with visible goals, but the iPhone app has not updated to reflect the fact that I have already received the watch. I have messaged support, received a response to delete the app and app setting, restart my phone and watch. I have done this and it still does not work. At this point I’m no longer receiving responses from support. I purchased this watch through attain because I could pay with points. If the app doesn’t work, I end up paying because it doesn’t even show me what goals I need to hit to get the points to pay the monthly bill. Attain, PLEASE help me resolve this issue.

Life-changing app—love it!. I couldn’t believe the email that said I could get an Apple Watch for free if I met my weekly movement goals. I’ve never been great with goals and with the pandemic, all of my gym sessions stopped and I wasn’t moving much. I’m 63. From the minute I set up the Attain app with my new watch I’ve met and exceeded my movement goals every week! It’s a great combo—I don’t know why the incentive is so effective, but it’s definitely working for me! Whoever developed this Attain app + Apple Watch plan is brilliant! I’ve moved more every day in the last few weeks since I got it than ever before. Just wish there was a way to add lap swimming manually so it counts for movement since I don’t want to risk taking watch in pool.)

App Crashes too often. I love this app, but fir some reason, it crashes all the time. When I open it, it shuts down right away. I have to re-login every time because it forgets who I am-face ID doesn’t work most of the time. Thankfully, my watch stores memory of my workouts and the app will sync once it’s up and running (pun intended) again so I don’t lose those points, but I am missing out on the daily extra points because the app is so inconsistent. Thankfully I’m well ahead of my monthly 8,000 points so I don’t get in a jam where I have to pay. Hopefully they can get the bugs worked out because I like the challenges and the incentive! Need to come up with more/different challenges to keep it interesting!

Set realistic goals and show workout history. It would be practical to have realistic daily goals in the app. There is no adjustment to normalize the baseline for each individuals. Eg. For my profile I have to burn 200 calories 3 times a day, 3 days a week to attain my weekly goal which is 600X 3 ie 1800 calories. Even with extra walks I reach only 450 calories a day 5 days a week. Why have this kind of goal where I can attain 450X5 ie 2250 per week personally rather than just 1800 as per app goal? It also is limited in showing how many days you burned how may calories in Calendar setting. History is not available so how would a person spot a trend or understand longterm habits? The app is very limited compared to other fitness tracking apps.

Needs a more personal plan. I am not outright saying this is a scam, but they rope you into the platform advertising free or subsidized Apple Watch for meeting your health goals. What they don’t tell you clearly is that they set the goals, not you or not your doctor, and these are very high and don’t give you a way to adjust. Their goals may be right for someone with a healthy lifestyle already, but for someone like me tied to a computer screen 50-60 hours a week with no prior workout plan, it is unattainable cold turkey. So the platform marketed as a way to motivate you to workout turns into a way to get you to buy that Watch and remain on their platform for their own business model exploitation. This is probably a good plan if you are already semi-active, but it is NOT a motivator to get more active for those of us who really need the help building to a healthier lifestyle. The too high goals have the opposite effect of being demotivating.

Chiming in with motivation. I agree with “motivation” that there should be a way to come back from a missed Monday. And.... I’m just now in the month that increases the goal by one day each week. After 2 or 3 weeks with a goal of 3 days a week, increasing the goal by one day every week seemed fast. I went over that goal each time - however overachieving felt safe... this fast shift toward no margin of error feels not safe. Also... in that first month I was challenging myself to be okay with less than perfection. If I naturally met the goal for all days, no problem. I didn’t want the App to become the driver of my movement, though, resulting in obsessive thoughts. For example.... now that I have no margin for error, I’ll sacrifice sleep to get those last few steps in. And that seems counterproductive to the goal. So I agree with “motivation”’s suggestions of an average or an alternate way to meet those points, just to provide a margin of error so meeting the daily goal doesn’t become a counterproductive obsessive thought.

I have run 5 marathons, but will never hit the apps goals.. I gave Attain a chance. Training for a marathon means running 6 days a week, and resting one day. Your body has to heal from the damage done from running so hard for so long. Some days I run for three hours straight, and burn about 3,000 extra calories. After doing that, your body has to heal. You need a rest day. According to this app, that’s not possible. I would have to exercise 7 days per week now. That’s not going to happen, because it’s bad for my body. This app needs to change. You need a weekly calorie goal so people who choose to rest can actually use this app. I’m done with this. I was excited I could get rewarded for my workouts, and then you set the goals in such a way that does not allow for me to train properly. You deserve one star, and that’s what you’ll get.

Great app. Attain keeps you motivated by helping you to set your goals weekly and slowly move towards working towards higher goals each week for just walking. At the same time it gives you tips on how to improve your health and lifestyle while giving you points for both the tips and meeting your goals in walking each week; that you can change into gift cards. Now who doesn’t like free money for something that you are probably already doing each day already, walking! So get up, get on the move with Attain to a healthier and happier lifestyle and earn some extra money while doing it!

Great App to keep track of fitness routine with a bit a disappointment. It’s been nearing a year I guess using Attain App well must say burning minimum 350+ calories is my goal and app motivates me to do so by tracking different activities in any given day. Also, health actions are kind of reminder on the key things we are missing to concentrate upon. However, I am just giving 4 starts because the weekly achievable points are not worth the effort I am putting in daily and health action points too is way to less at times this demotivates me to delete this app but still hoping it might get better someday will change and mind and keep the app up and running in my device.

So far, I like the app. I just started the app about 3 weeks ago. I’ve enjoyed reading the daily actions. My concern is that the goals are going to get unreasonable as stated by some previous reviewers. I am disabled & I view this app as a way to motivate me to stay active. So far, I’ve been able to meet the daily goals, but I was not aware when I signed up, that it will gradually increase to 7 days a week which seems excessive ... no day of rest to rejuvenate from the work week. Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep up with the app’s future increased demands. I’ll give it 5 stars for now. That may change in the future.

A New accountability that works. I sooo love this app. I have been looking for something that will hold me accountability to stay active. This app does just that. It remind me to get up, take a min breath and burn calories. I love the challenges they add for you to earn extra points . So far I have had it for less than 2 months and I have accumulated a lot of points. I would recommend this to anyone looking for accountability tool that will help them stay active. I got my Apple Watch through this app and I’ll be using the points to pay off my watch. Thank you Attain!!!

Terrible Program. Like other users have said, this is a review of the program. The calorie goals are so ridiculous that I have almost never met the goal three times per week in the two years that I have been in the program, despite being very active. I’ll give an example of how impossible the calorie goal is. I spent two hours yesterday manually mowing my lawn and trimming, then proceeded to walk three miles later that evening. I HAD ONLY MET MY CALORIE GOAL BY FIVE CALORIES BY BEDTIME. It is absolutely ridiculous that spending three hours + of rigorous activity BARELY meets the goal. The calorie goal for Attain is also 100 calories higher than my daily goal in Apple Fitness, which is based on the same demographic info. This clearly is a scam to keep Aetna from having to pay for your watch. I would not recommend this program to anyone.

Unrealistic Goals. One star for the same reason that multiple other people have mentioned. Realistic calorie goals. I workout 4-5 times a week and hit my goal of 700 calories during my normal workout, but after meeting my goal for a couple consecutive weeks I was placed into an 'elite group of individuals with 7 weekly goals.' While I'll hit my goal 4 or 5 times a week, hitting that calorie mark every single day just isn't going to happen. I called and spoke with one of the representatives and was told that they understood rest days were necessary but this is 'still a fairly new app' so there wouldn't be any way to customize calorie goals. The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week and the idea that you can't accomplish that with 3-5 days of exercise is nonsensical.

Glitchy every single day. I like the concept but they need to fix this app… There is some sort of glitch, new or old, pretty much every time I open the app. Buttons don’t work so you can’t click to complete actions. Can’t accept challenges because it keeps loading and wouldn’t accept. This morning I tried to complete a survey as part of the action and it says oops something is wrong it’s not you it’s us. Later I got a notification about updating my weight, I click on it and nothing happens in the app. I could go on and on. Also disappointed because I did message support once about missing points. They responded that they added the points manually, but to date I still don’t see them. Emailed again, and this time just no response. So now I don’t even bother.

Would be 5 star if:. I like having the app for the extra push, day to day. I also enjoy the fact it is helping me pay for my Apple Watch, and I can get other rewards. With all the positive there is a couple negatives. In my opinion there should only be 5-6 days a week of goals to reach the weekly rewards. I push hard day in and day out. They say to take a day of rest and let the body recoup. Even trying to burn the 750 calories on a day I am not going to the gym and or work is very difficult. So I never get a day to let my body recoup. I also have had issues of burning well over 750 calories, tracked and shows, but not received the credit for it. Also my app doesn’t always keep me logged in, or give me daily extra goals to earn extra points, towards the rewards.

Calories Always Wrong. This app consistently misses calories. For example, Apple Health shows 1353 for a day where Attain shows 983. This happens several times a week, with a few days being correct. I’d give one more star if this was fixed, mostly because this app is calorie based. The app starts giving a bonus when 3 days of calories has been met, the next week will be 4 days, then 5 days. I’d think 7 is unrealistic. If the bonus system was updated to something like making 4 or 5 days a large bonus, and a completed week an additional bonus on top of that, then it’d be more realistic to achieve. I don’t like the all or none approach. Fix this and that would be the other missing star. I like most of the app and the various goals it presents on a daily basis. Overall it has gotten me moving more.

Good idea, bad implementation. I love the idea of working on a goal that is attainable. I love earning points and all the variety of ways to earn them. The apple rings keep track of my calories and they suggest a level that is attainable for me yet a challenge, based on my history. It would be so motivating for me to see that gradually go up as I increase my activity. Unfortunately, I have to keep my goal set at 750 because that’s what the Attain app requires. I recently learned that everyone has the 750 calories goal. Since when does one size fit all?? And to reach that level every day? I will never be able to “attain” that. Might as well just pay for my watch and use the Apple rings instead. Also, I would love to be able to reread the challenges that I accept, to keep myself motivated but they disappear and all I can see is the name of the challenge.

Love it. I was offered the Apple Watch as an incentive from my insurance, through the attain app if I reach my goals at least three times a week my watch is paid for. Great incentive! I have been using it for about a month now and have become much more active. My job is very sedentary, but I make a point now to get up and move around throughout the day now and to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day after work. The app sends reminders through the day to get up and move around if you’ve been sitting too long and gives suggestions for a healthier lifestyle each day. Love the app!

Motivation to Demotivation. The app was great and motivating when it was 3 goals to be met in a week. It allowed for days of rest and busy schedules not allowing time for exercise. But after a month in, app started increasing to 4 to 5 to currently 6 goals to be met in rapid succession. Now, I rarely work out because I know I wont be able to meet that unrealistic goal with my medical conditon. No, I’m not going to ask my doctor to sign a waiver for me. Suggestion to app makers: if you are indeed concerned about motivating people, make each day of goal achievement merit a set number of points, instead of the unrealistic goal of 6 to 7 days of goal to be met. As it is now, it shows that your main goal is to not pay out and maximize corporate profits than to motivate your clients.

Unrealistic expectations?. I get the point is to try to get exercise and to push yourself a bit. I work in a retail pharmacy, I definitely get my steps in. Between my watch and the app, it clearly doesn’t add up- sent my watch back to Apple to verify it was working properly. The only way I can actually burn the 450 calories I need a day is by walking an extra three or four miles after an already busy workday. For the “suggestions” for things like changing diet, you don’t get credit by saying “I already do this”, which is quite disheartening. Lately the app doesn’t even register that I’m wearing the watch at all. My fitness app shows that I am, but it can take a few days to load the data and even then, it doesn’t always get it right. My coworker seems to be having better luck, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend this to anyone at all.

Unrealistic daily move goal. I’m 67 yo, moderately active. Had a daily move goal of 300 cal, I reached that goal any day I exercised, which was NOT seven days a week. First complaint is if you meet your weekly goal, they up the days until 7 days/week. Second complaint is they upped my daily goal to 350 cals about six months ago. I reach that goal about once a month!! No effort to reduce goal to a more realistic number. Frankly, at age 67, 350 cals is asking a lot. I called when I originally got the app to ask about variables, and they said they don’t take age into consideration when calculating daily goal. Really?! You should—67 is different than 27! The other day, I exercised for 75 minutes doing a 10,000 step walk. Nowhere near 350 calories recorded. That’s demotivated for sure.

Goals get to demanding.. When I started out my goals were 3 per week and went to 4 after about a month. Then 5 days the next week, 6 the next and now 7 days a week. I am very active, I go to the gym 4 days a week and will run or some other type of activity the other days so I didn’t think I would have any trouble meeting my goals. One day of the week I didn’t get my calorie goal so I missed out on the 2000 points for the week. Even though my average calories for that week were more than my goal. It killed my motivation for the rest of the week. Having 5 or 6 required days makes more sense. But every single day gives no room for sick or super busy work days. Requiring every single day is to much, I don’t really have motivation to push myself the rest of the week when I have missed one day.

I Don’t Understand the Nevative Reviews. I love the app. If people have issues with the program, that’s separate from a review of the app. Anyway, I love the program & the app. It has motivated me to stick to my goal of 10,000 steps a day. I don’t know why everyone is complaining about hitting the active goals 7 days a week. It’s definitely a challenge, but it’s not impossible. The point of this is to increase your activity level and earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards. If for some reason I’m unable to hit my weekly goal, then I’m not going to earn the 1000 point bonus. But I’m ok with that. I’m motivated.

App needs work / common sense check. Overall, this program seemed like a pretty good way to get people interested in being healthier. I don’t really share a lot of the concerns on here about sharing my data. My main issue with the app is their algorithm which adds a day to your required calorie completion whenever you have a successful week. Basically after a few weeks you’ll be expected to hit the 600 calorie goal 7x a week or you won’t get the weeks point bonus (which is the only way to actually pay off the watch using points.) It’s not sustainable. Rest days are part of any sensible workout plan. When I contacted support they sent me a form letter detailing how the algorithm works without actually addressing the issue at all. On top of that, every week I’ve had to email support (since starting about 2.5 months ago) to get credited for completing my daily goals because the app seems to mysterious drop days when it resets at night (even though the circles are filled and the Apple health app has my active kcal way over 600 for every day of the week.) TL;DR It’s ok for a little motivation to workout every day, though It’s very unlikely that you’ll be able to get the points to get the watch for free. (update) Adjusting the star rating again for their ongoing refusal to address any of the major issues with the app.

Fantastic!. I really didn’t think I could achieve my goals as easily as I have been, but Attain gives me the incentive to keep going. I love how easy it is to use and there have been no tech issues at all. And I’ve had the added incentive of earning points to pay off my Apple Watch! Love this app! Update: the one thing I’d suggest is to account for women who have had a total hysterectomy because the questions about screening for a pap don’t apply if you have no cervix. And also, please take into account women who had a total hysterectomy more than 5 years ago. They absolutely should get the points for those questions without penalty. Know your audience, Aetna!

Fix Weekly Goal Setting. The weekly exercise days goal setting seems flawed. I went from a few weeks of hitting 3 day to 4 days which makes sense. All of a sudden I’m at 5 exercise days and even when I don't meet the days I'm suddenly at 6 and then 7. Why cant it be a progression of 4 weeks of 5 days then gradually move up? Last week I did not meet 6 days of exercise and (I did 4 days) today I’m at 7 days. That make no sense. The rest of the features and suggestions are fine. The exercise frequency just seems really off.

Great until goals are unattainable. I loved this app at first, but every two weeks my goal increased until I had to hit 6 days a week. I’ve read that it eventually goes up to 7. I have to do cardio each day to hit the active calories goal. That just isn’t reasonable for me. You can’t even miss a day. I would prefer more flexibility - like a weekly calorie goal that would allow us to do longer workouts on days of our choice to hit the weekly goal. Also figure out a way to log specific exercises like weight training, yoga, etc. Its hard for me to hit my calorie goal doing those activities with this app, but they are just as important for our health as cardio!

Makes working out a chore.. It was fun for the first couple of weeks. I even had a streak of getting all of my points that lasted months. But when it started making me get my daily points all 7 days of the week every week to get my weekly bonus, it became something I HAD to do instead of me wanting to or instead of motivating me to do better. It just became a chore and was not longer fun. Once I had enough points to cover my watch, I totally quit worrying about getting points other than through daily challenges that are simple. I also hated using my Apple Watch as a workout watch. I’m an ultra runner and use a high end Garmin. But I had to also wear my Apple Watch to get my points as the app wouldn’t let my workouts from my garmin count.

The Perfect Health App!. There is absolutely no doubt this app motivates me and keeps me motivated. I actually look forward to the daily suggestions and topics they present. I find the app easy to use along with my Apple Watch and found myself addicted to moving more and earning points while doing so. I especially love redeeming the points for various gift cards and purchased some nice quality products with those points. I honestly would really really miss this app and it’s inspirational value if it went away. It has provided great advice to improve my overall health while earning incentive points. Great job Attain and I also thank my employer, Aetna for participating: )

Has the potential to be dangerous. Now i see what everyone is talking about. My first month I needed to hit my goal 3 times in a week. I did it and I was feeling great. Then for one week it bumped to 4 times. I knew I could do it but I started to get nervous because I had a day or two that was close simply because of having too many conference calls etc. Then after one week of four times it jumps to five times a week. I don’t know if they understand the idea behind positive reinforcement but I know find myself obsessing over the app. My screen time has gone up which seems counterintuitive to the whole “mindfulness “ week and my heart rate increases. Will decide in the next month if I just say screw it and continue to pay for the watch but go back to my Fitbit.

Annoying bugs. This app starts with the premise that you can potentially get a free apple watch just by walking every day and reaching a calorie goal. It increases the amount of days you need to exercise in a week after accumulating more points to make it harder, but that’s to be expected. What they don’t tell you is that the app has a bug that will log you out without warning, meaning that it will completely wipe out your daily progress if you don’t check before you begin exercise. It would just be annoying if it happened every once in a while, but it occurs very frequently. I’ve had weeks where it would log me out every 1-2 days. Also, some of the healthy actions don’t even give points. Honestly embarassing that they even have these issues, and it makes it feel like a scam. Please fix these bugs!

Only about a month and no problems. I’ve only been using this app for about a month but have not run into any problems. The layout is pretty simple to understand and it’s tracking my workouts and movements very well as far as I can tell. I like that I can earn points for real gift cards and stuff like that. That’s the main thing for me. But it gives me some insight into my calories burned and sets goals for me. There pretty easy to accomplish. I’d say for the points you can earn to cash in for real stuff is a reason to download this app alone. It’s a no brainer. Have a good day!!

Truly terrible app experience. I don’t know if corporate higher ups sabotaged this app for profitability reasons or if it’s just bad for for more mundane reasons but I sure wish I hadn’t signed up for two miserable years with it. I hate it. First, it barely functions. Frequent crashes, links to nowhere, and a login system designed by Mr. Potato Head are my most common issues. Why do I have to log into the app every time I open it?? It’s not my bank or my brokerage account, just a supposed healthy lifestyle supplement. There’s no private healthcare information, just a log of how much movement I’ve done. They can’t even use FaceTime like every other sensitive app. Second, the Byzantine point system they use to determine if I owe them my watch blood money is opaque to the point of intentional. The app does not make it clear when I’ll owe money and why that’s the case. I don’t get a notification that says “time to step it up” or any other user friendly option that would actually motivate people to achieve the stated goal of this app. On the whole, I’m counting the days until I can be done with this pile of junk and would recommend staying away from the Attain program by any means necessary.

A Bit Misleading. I was told I would only need to meet my goal 3 times a week to have my insurance cover my payment. After a month it increased to 4 times then 5. I’m a yoga instructor that teaches 6-8 times a week and keep pretty active with my own workouts so thought this was fair. Now I have to meet my goal 7 times a week, which is a bummer because I liked having a rest day. I was counting on having to pay the monthly payment if I ever wanted to take a vacation and leave my watch at home and the payment isn’t that much at all. It’s more the fact that I wasn’t told the goal would increase or that 7 days a week was even an option. It makes keeping my goal more of a “have to” then a “want to”. I’m not given a choice regarding my own exercise schedule.

Great app. If you need more motivation to workout everyday, this is it. 🙂 I’m one of the religious users of this app and it has helped me a lot. Working out has been a part of my life since I was 21 and I’m 37 now. But there really are days that laziness would win. Lol. Not anymore. I always need to move, exercise and be more active because I have a goal to reach on this app. Plus the Healthy Actions page that gives good advice and reminders come in handy. They’ve also improved the app and customer service responds relatively quick. Thanks Aetna and Attain!

Ok but I seem to have issues. I like the app and have been using it for well over a year. However more and more recently it keeps telling me there is a problem with the servers so some info may be out of date. I have always updated the app and have the current version on my phone. Having this error come up all the time has made me miss hitting my goal for the day on multiple occasions. As it doesn’t always update my total until it’s too late to burn the calories. It’s just frustrating that I’ve been short by only like 1-10 calories because there was this error. I’m not sure how to fix it and have tried everything I can think of. I wanted to give it three stars but that wouldn’t work either.

Unrealistic goals. Edit: please stop saying “look out for changes”. Just lower the activity goals for people. Seriously. Make them never be 7 days a week. It’s that simple. Stop feeding us BS about “changes coming up”. Nothing is coming. Most of the reviews agree that the goals are unattainable. This is a giant scam. I hope nobody actually tries to get a watch through this (I’m so glad I didn’t!). I think we should all start filing with the attorney generals of our states (consumer protection division) and the FTC. This is deceptive and low. I work out every day, I’m healthy and pretty active. Leave it to Attain to penalize me by setting a calorie burn that’s higher than my Apple Watch suggests and making the goal to hit that EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK. Um what? Perfectionism is not the answer here, people. It’s unrealistic to expect me to hit the goal every single day of the week. Rest days are a thing. I’m at a healthy weight and am more active than most people, yet I can’t hit these goals.

Worth It. I have been using this app with the Apple Watch for over 4 months. Yes, the goals increase, that’s part of the motivation to carry on an active lifestyle and sustain it. To meet my goals, I am up to 7 days a week and 500 calories. This seems to be my plateau at age 56. I have met my goal every week and Attain offers some extra bonus points that don’t require any exercise. Through my daily activities (moving around the office or home) and a 45-50 minute walk, I have exceeded every daily goal from day one. To me, signing up for this is a no brainer unless you are all talk no action.

Frustrating experience. This app was working well initially but several months in, I kept getting charged small amounts for chunks of time the app claimed I had not met my movement goals. On 3 separate occasions, I had to email them screen shots from my health app to prove that I had met the move goal and the app was actually just not syncing properly with my data. I was given credit back for some and points only for some. It’s frustrating to me that I wear the watch daily and meet my move goals every week but still have to double and triple check that the app isn’t charging me or missing something. Feels like I have to constantly be on the defensive to make sure it’s working as it is supposed to. I would not use this app again.

From inspiration to desperation. The concept of the app is great. And in the beginning, it was very motivating. The goals were attainable. And frankly, a little too easy. So I get when it went from 3 days to 4 days. That made me work a little harder, but ok...that’s how we get better. Then it moved to 5 days. And by stretching it a little, yes, that was doable. Once you hit 6 days...you start to realize you can’t do it based in the way the metrics work. I train for marathons, and switch to bike every other day. The bike doesn’t tabulate the same as the watch (via Peloton), so I miss out in a majority of the active calories I’m actually burning. So instead of getting rewarded for working hard, I feel the user gets penalized for working hard. Eventually not tabulating for a month will lower it back down to manageable, but what’s the point then?

Added to a Waitlist. In a time when staying healthy is so vital (coronavirus pandemic) I was extremely disappoint to find out that the Attain by Aetna program is no longer accepting new members. After researching the program extensively and deciding that this was the push I needed to get out, stay at an acceptable social distance and improve my health during this tough time I ran into a message stating I would have to join a waitlist for an undisclosed amount of time. I decided to call and was told that the program has suspended adding new members for the near future and there was no estimate when this would change. Aetna appears to have abandoned the incentive for people to improve their health during this hardship our entire Country is struggling day by day to face. Aetna - I am extremely disappointed in your decision to abandon incentivizing preventive health during a time when health is so very important. Shame on you.

Glad I tried it!. I hesitated to sign up for this because of the reviews on here, so I wanted to come back to say that I’m really enjoying it! I love my Apple Watch and am motivated to exercise more because I don’t want to have a payment on it. My goals have been very reasonable so far (I am 5 weeks in) I’m happy I decided to try it! I’m having fun with it and definitely exercising more. And haven’t owed anything on the watch yet. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I think the app itself isn’t that exciting. It works as a nice compliment to the Apple activity features and I like checking in to see what my goals are for the week. Excited to continue with it.

It’s ok and I use it. All in all I think this app is good, but it’s pretty clear that the weekly goal set up is not very realistic. I always complete the surveys they send and it doesn’t seem that the developers take the feedback into consideration. Just browsing through the reviews and I see the same sentiments I expressed repeated over and over again. I think a total weekly calorie goal would be better. That way if you are sick or have a few off days you aren’t “out” of earning the weekly goal. You can still set daily targets to reach the goals and put a little more control into the users hands.

Motivating but sometimes too much of a stretch. I absolutely love this app. It’s definitely motivated me to be a tad bit healthier. But I feel like meeting your daily goals 6 days of the week is a little but of a stretch and at times if I miss a day or two at the beginning of the week, I lose motivation to try and meet the daily goal for the rest of the week. I think a consolidated weekly goal (Active cals) would be far more motivating, so even if I did miss a couple days at the start of the week, I would still feel motivated to work out and make up for the rest of the week.

Love this app for the most part. Got this app thru my health insurance. Love the Apple Watch incentive & being able to pay it off over time by earning activity points each week. Also like the tips it provides each day. Wish it had a little more flexibility - like if I miss 2 days in the beginning of a week where I am supposed To meet my goal 6 out of 7 days - I have no incentive to exercise the rest of the week. Maybe it should give you a makeup day by 2 workouts in 1 day or doubling your calorie goal. Just a thought. Attain def keeps me motivated to work out!

Great Motivation. I use this app through my insurance. I already had an Apple Watch so I’m not trying to pay one off. The app has some glitches, like when I’m traveling through different time zones, but when you email the company they are willing to give you credit if you send a screenshot from your Apple Watch app that shows your activity. The app seems to have improved over the two years I’ve had it. I’m no longer expected to meet my goal 7 days a week and it doesn’t log me out as often as it used to. I appreciate the gift card motivation for reaching goals.

iOS14 / WatchOS7 disaster. I’ve been using attain since it’s launch and have been generally pretty happy with it. The recent changes to avoid 7 day goal was a welcome modification and makes meeting weekly goals more realistic. However, since the launch of iOS14 and watchOS7 the calorie tracking is way off. Attain seems to look at ‘active’ calories from the health app and not ‘move’ calories from the watch. For some reason active calories in the health app are always trailing move calories and as the day goes on the difference grows. Currently I have a 620 daily goal to reach but this is only possible by logging over 850 calories on the watch. There never used to be an issue like this until the OS updates. I can only assume that the app was not tested with the the OS beta which is not good.

It’s good but..... I am a athlete and I was super excited to get the chance to have a Apple Watch. Set up was easy. App is very easy to follow and my goal in the beginning was sensible. After a couple of months. They raised the days that I had to meet my caloric output from 6 to 7 and I was a little upset. This app is suppose to encourage moving and working out and possibly a free Apple Watch and that’s great but a part of being healthy and listening to your body is having days off. Letting your body rest and heal. Which isn’t attainable now. I wrote a email to Attain and never heard back. I suggested maybe raising my caloric output for 6 days a week but it’s just unrealistic for someone to workout and exercise 7 days a week. No rest. No break. Just my 2 cents....

Great if you already have an Apple watch!. When I first had the opportunity to use the app, I read through the reviews and decided it was more trouble than it was worth to try to earn an Apple watch. However, after buying my own Apple watch about a year ago, I got the app, and I have loved it. Already having an Apple watch means there’s no pressure to meet the app’s requirements to pay it off, and I get extra money in my pocket for whatever effort I am able to make! I find it does give me an extra incentive to move more because I love hitting the weekly goals and adding points toward more gift cards.
