WOW!!! Have your cake and eat it. Watch it for the Metronome, it’s loud and it not obvious where to turn it off, should have a dedicated button. That said.. WOW is an understatement, this app is jus too much. You everything you need in one place even Has IMPORT options for importing wavs. Would also be nice if you could record directly into the pads via microphone or audiobus. The fact you can automate everything really make this a very powerful beat maker. It even has a sample slicer which is really useful. MIDI please would be really the icing on the cake and maybe the ability to trigger patterns from the pads. SoI’m going to spend more time with it and try go deep let’s see where it leads.

Like Hardware Groove Box. Groove Rider is the truth! It is a feature rich groovebox app that competes favorably against VST Groovebox software like FL STUDIO Groove Machine or others that cost way much more money. Groove Rider makes you feel like you are working with an old school hardware beat machine (think Roland MC 505 or MC 909). Kudos to the developer for bringing this quality app to IOS!

Greatest iOS music production app ever.. Awesome regular updates. Synth patch randomizer like in Poison would be nice, or maybe I missed the setting. No brainer purchase, like having an electribe at 1/20th the price.

First real groovebox experience for iOS. I really love my boxes. Even with today's awesome apps and software, I cannot let go of my MC-303, EA-1, ER-1, EMX, SP-404, Sampletrak and whatnot. Then Jim releases this and my stuff is gathering some dust (until I reintegrate them to my workflow, of course) Highly recommend this powerful and intuitive groovebox, which as stated in my review title, is the first to fully embrace the full experience. No diving in menus to get stuff done. And the dev keeps the updates flowing. Pure love <3

Love it!. I'm a huge fan of Poison 202, so naturally I picked this gem up the day after its release. The updates have been coming fast and furious (and hopefully an iPhone X update is on the way).

Buy this now.. I was initially upset when I bought this because I forgot to purchase this yesterday for Black Friday (my own fault, you snooze you lose). I really wanted to try it however, caved, and bought it for double the discount price. And you know what... it was worth every, single, cent and then some. I can already tell that this is the greatest purchase Ive made in terms of music production software on iOS and I’ve bought a LOT. Nothing has been able to take the number one spot, Fugue, until now. I love electronic music and this is one of those tools that just “resonates” with me as I use it and you get into the zone with near instant gratification of your musical ideas. Wow. This is special. Just buy it. The developer deserves more than the regular price and I’m glad I actually paid full. My only regret now is that I didn’t discover it sooner.

What the new Electribe series should have been.. Based on a combination of the synth and sampler version of the Electribe 2 hardware. It is both a sampler and a synth. Being able to shift timing off the 16th note is amazing allowing me to make music that doesn’t sound so robotic. Wonderful workflow and sounds amazing. I am having a blast controlling this app from my Electribe. Adding a line in for sampling and time stretching would make this app even better. Great app. I love it.

Great App!!!. It’s one of the best tools I’ve ever used for track and idea creation (and I use a lot). The multi-effect section and pattern linking really let you expand a quick idea into a useable professional sounding track. This app has been the main tool in track and instrumental sales totaling over $3400 in less than two months! I have most high end hardware grooveboxes. And this is super fun to play, maybe the best software groovebox. A lot of love and work went into this, and it deserves the accolades. Fantastic app!

Phenomenal developer. One of the great, independent developers supporting iOS (not just iPad!) musicians. GR-16 has evolved to be the best groovebox app you can buy. Song mode is icing on the cake. World class. A must buy.

A Digitakt/Electribe Hybrid. There are prettier apps. But none nearly as versatile or inspiration-friendly as Groove Rider. It takes a little to get into it, but this is fantastically adaptable. It really can do anything, and the updates just keep improving it. I revisited it at first, but now I’m all in.

Best iOS groovebox. Update: Skins are a great addition! Loving it! ————- Update: I hope this app lives forever. I’ve had it a few days now and can say beyond a doubt that it is actually the only true groove box ever made on iOS. What an amazing experience to get back into that workflow and that way of thinking. Wow. ———— This thing is amazing, and reminds me most of my Korg EMX-1 synth from back in the day, except that it is more powerful! So fun, and so nostalgic. If I could have either right now I would definitely go with this app. I am about to start reading the manual, so if these capabilities are there, I apologize. Would love to have the ability to create choke groups for hi hats. Also, can you name the user patterns? If we can already do this, then forgive me! Job well done on an incredible and much needed app!

Awesome. Don’t quite grasp it yet and find it actually harder than Drambo and a few of the other sort of hard to learn but worth it synths/grooveboxes, There’s an Elektronish kind o feel, that I don’t know why this little box is so cool, but ima find out.

Like it. This would be my go to sample instrument if only it let you record samples and not just import them. It has all the features I want but because of that it’s just something I play with occasionally, sadly. Will you add sample recording? PLEASE!

Iamhousemachines top app. Just an amazing user interface and production tool. I know some will call it a toy but you will be seriously surprised how artistic you can get. Don’t fall into the hype on buying Uber expensive gear only to realize everything you need is on your phone already.

ATTENTION EVERYBODY:. GET THIS! The Electribe 2 further realized with: -larger useful screen -proper adsr -seemingly easier editing due to touch screen -mixer -advanced sends/master effects flexibility ...is this not a complete rip off of the Electribe? Granted, the layout of the Electribe is super logical so why reinvent the wheel, right? Yeah, so jumping into this thing from the Electribe is a no-brainer. And I can apparently load my own samples in without having to buy the Electribe S...I do like that. So, yes, I do like it a lot and thank you to the developer for making this thing. That being said, if they do come after you with some kinda legal threat about similarity and you are forced to change it...don’t ef it up by radically changing anything. Please keep it subdued and logical...no hyped up graphics or unnecessary visual candy.

Enable sample editing. I would love to see and option to edit and highlight different parts of wav samples regardless of length. Also when using a midi keyboard I can only play 4 note chords.

Close to perfect but needs a few things!. This app is so close to being the perfect groove box but needs a few things! First 6 note polyphony! Next we need templates! I don’t like having to change the drums every single time I load up a new track it really slows down the workflow and creativity sometimes! Last thing would be truly unquantized notes! Sometimes when I play it cuts off some notes which made me realize they aren’t truly unquantized! Other than that it’s great.

So much fun. Groove rider is so fun to jam on. It’s work flow is so fast and easy it feels so natural once you start getting use to it. There’s some missing functions but it seems like the dev, has most planned in upcoming releases already. Definitely worth the the price $ and more.

Best iOS music app hands down.. I’ve been making music on iOS for bout 3 years now and nothing strikes a more perfect balance between, fun, immediacy, and great sound sculpting options like this thing. Feels like an instrument. Between the great synth engine, sample import AND resampling options, and the wonderful tools like the touchpad, erase button, chord modes, arp, groove presets, and super handy fx routing, you pretty much feel like you can do no wrong here. So sit back, relax, and ride those grooves. And special thanks to the developer for rolling out quick updates that tweaked the app to amazingly be better than it was on release. Great stuff here. I can see myself making music with this for a LONG time.

A serious go at the machinery. ...and the developer is right on it, improving, adding, listening. Seems a bit opaque at the very start (if you haven’t played with hardware versions), but about ten minutes in the bell rings and while you’ve hardly scratched the surface of what it can do you’re already doing something. And it’s cool.

Awesome once you learn how to use it. I was a bit lost by this app at first, but once I understood how to use it I was in love. Seems a bit bewildering at first, but is actually very easy and fun once you understand how to use it. The app could use a built in tutorial, but I found that the walkthrough by Electronisounds on YT really helped me understand this great app.

Fantastic Groovebox app. Between this and Electribe Wave- buy Grooverider Developer responded to my concern showing me that a feature I wanted was actually already in the app. So the app is great and the developer behind the app listens.

Best in the Biz!. Amazing app by a skilled, responsive developer. This has answered nearly every hope I had for a sequencing app (iOS or not), and the fact that it’s universal makes it my most used app. This app is so great that I will probably keep a legacy iOS device to keep it running forever. Here’s my weird request: If the dev finds time to make everything midi controllable, including controls for the settings menus, I will use this until the day I die.

The IOS Groovebox of grooveboxes. - which is no small feat, there’s a lot of cool ones on the platform. The developer is quite amazing, huge updates keep coming, the app’s power keeps doubling, I don’t think dude ever sleeps. Buy this, his synth Poison, and whatever else he makes...

Incredible app. I was going to buy an Elektron Digitakt because while I love the Korg Electribe Sampler workflow, I just don't think the hardware actually sounds that good. The Digitakt appears to be the next level version of that xoxox type of sequencing but it's pretty expensive. Then this app appears out of nowhere and gives me all sample mangling functionality I was looking for at a fraction of the cost. Really looking forward to the dev's continued support on it. If they add direct sampling capability, midi clock/midi in, and audio export then this thing becomes perfect.

Incredible app!. This app blows away all the other MPC type apps out there right now. Korg, AKAI and Native Instruments have very dated apps or put all their focus on selling sound packs. This is the only app that really delivers to musicians, and provides a solid and flexible workflow. I highly recommend to anyone who is looking that you just buy this app - you won’t regret it.

Simply the best. After going through endless apps searching for a gig ready performance and production tool on iOS, I can say that this is it. Quite possibly the only iOS app that is not a one trick pony or given to some gimmicks, this is a professional level app that rivals hardware.

LOVELY SEQUENCING BEAST. Love all of the features and simplicity of your app seriously useful & great interface! =============================================== Small suggestions or requests An ability to change octaves by swiping up, down or to sides above below or on side of pads would be amazing to allow for changing octaves in key or chord mode fast without a midi controller or without having to move finger to octave change area and keep it with the pads. Another feature I think you could benefit from is a user sample folder section that automatically loads pads. A shuffle or random button could apply samples in this folder to all pads. Lastly a cloud partnership with sample library apps or music apps that allow people to chop & place samples on pads directly in app would be cool & possibly a way to extend your reach or partnerships. Regardless it’s amazing and these are not essential, just suggestions that might take it somewhere else! Thanks for all of your hard work and creativity!

New update is all over the place!. Whoa you got wavetable synthesis and new features, new import, new instruments, and even Serum support! But OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO ADD IN-APP PURCHASES!!!!! I’ve had this groove monster for a while, and this is very well a good way to attract new buyers, but please, cut off the in-app-ropriate-ness before it escalates past my $15! Maybe if it were say, to unlock more power in the synth engine, it’d be more effective, but right now I’m about to find out how much this new stuff costs!

First great true Groovebox for iOS!. Been waiting for something like this one for awhile. Outstanding implementation with everything on a single pane. Can be very deep and flexible. I don’t write reviews either. I was forced to because this one is that good. Very happy purchase!

A full fledged groove box at a steal of a price. What a great tool for fleshing out ideas on the go. On the surface it may not seem sonically deep but once you understand all the options you can achieve some very usable sounds. While there is quite a bit of menu diving involved for all the various parts of the sequencer and menu it all makes sense to allow you to have a mostly 1 screen app. You could go spend 10x or more on a hardware groovebox and not really have as much freedom to arrange and tweak sounds the way you do on GR-16.

Better with each update!!. Love this app! I own the Korg er,ea and em1. Purchased the sold the elective 2 because I didn't like the layout and menu diving. This is the best replacement I have found. Any chance the next update will allow the user to change the incoming/outgoing midi notes?

Best in Class Groove Making Machine. Wow! Just wow!! This is a serious machine built by a musician for musicians. On the surface it’s an amazing and tangible interface for making wonderful beats, but below that surface is a monster waiting to be unleashed. I’ve gone through almost every iOS beat making machine there is and I can say without hesitation this is the most powerful one I’ve seen to date. This is the kind of app that makes me start to delete other apps so I can focus on one machine and learn it inside it out. This puts the focus on making music and that’s what being a musician should be about.

Fastest workflow for browsing and loading samples. What is the most important thing for a drum machine to have? For me, it's the ability to quickly browse and preview drum samples when building a kit. The latest update of GrooveRider offers a great workflow for this task. It offers AUv3 support, and it's also great as a standalone groovebox.

To the developer. I really like this app but I’m a beatmaker so sound design isn’t my best asset I know basics to shape a sound to my liking from a preset but this app comes with a few instrument sounds and the rest of the melody sounds I find are raw sound wave types and combos. Basically please could you app preset sounds like Poison-202 or add a way to use it in this app. ?

Seriously one of the TOP apps of all time!. This app is utterly fabulous, and this developer is amazingly responsive. Feature after feature has been added every week. Groove Rider 16 is a groove box. And it is so feature rich, well designed, and just plain fun to use that I can’t put it down. All my iOS DAWs seem like work rather than play. This is mainly designed around 4-bar patterns, so take the reviews saying this is a full fledged music production system, the best DAW ever, etc. Sure, you can make songs by chaining patterns together, and can export patterns into DAWs, but it’s main attraction for me is as a quick and fun jammin’ idea powerhouse. That said, it has HUGE power under the hood. A good library of samples included, the ability to import your own, and a surprisingly good synth, that is super-basic, but able to dial in great sounds in a fraction of the time I spend messing around with full synth apps. Did I say synth ... I mean up to 16 of them if you want. At the very least, consider this an introduction into the best features of high-end hardware groove boxes at a tiny fraction of the cost. If it doesn’t gel with you ... then you just saved yourself hundreds of dollars on hardware, cause you won’t like it either.

If you like making music. Buy this, it’s good for you. Tons of stuff to work with. You can automate everything...

Must have tool.. One of the best music making apps out there. Only issue I’m having is I need the ability to use multiple midi controllers at once. Please implement this.

Amaze-⚽️ 🏀 ⚾️ groove creation station!!!!!!. Amazing pro level app from the dev who made the phenomenal Poison-202 synth! Anything I can say has probably already been said so I’m just going to use this as a platform to beg the dev for my feature requests. 1) the X-Y JimAudio manipulator pad needs to be like 25-50% bigger PLEASE! [erhaps not all the time but for some functions it would work during live play SOOO much better IMHO... Secondly, okay so the people who you’re really making this app for have already invested tons of $$ in Novation’s iMachine-Launchpad-Blocs-, Retronyms AudioCopy, Beatmakers Intua, Sampletank, Beat Hawk, (and a couple more I’m forgetting) sound bank/libraries.. make it a $5-10 IAP +/- but plz be our hero musical savior and incorporate a way to import these sample libraries into groove rider and manipulate them with your terrific program. Thank you!!!

Buy the IAP just to give Jim some love for all the time, effort and patience he has put into this app. If you can’t afford $5 considering all the effort that has gone into this app then get out of the kitchen! I sold my digital sample sequencer hardware after I bought this app. This is amazing, it does all my korg volca sample did but too much easier, complete and with a better sound quality

One of my favorite groove boxes. This app is fun, intuitive, versatile and full of features. It has “Electron type” conditional trigs, an awesome analog sounding synth engine, lots of modulation options and effects. I would love to have a hardware version of this groove box. Direct sampling would be a nice addition for a future update.

Ohh This Is Going To Beee Fun❣️. I'm going through the setting, turning on background play, etc., and probably will be playing with this till sunrise. I can feel it❣️ My Christmas present to me. 🤓 Thank you Dmitrij❣️ I stopped reading when I saw that it used the Poison synth engine and bought it. It became a no brainer, it did. It wasn't that it was 50% off. lol (and that I saw that the filter was a 12/24 dB / octave. I'll come back for the rest. This, THIS is going to be good. A lot fun. Dmitrij these (and Poison) are like what I would put together with the exact same features if I was so gifted. I had been wishing for something that was both a 'mad synthesizer' but it was hidden under a bigger musical personality. Be back with results of my initial impressions.

Turns iPad into a better groovebox than most dedicated hardware options.. This app is simply perfect. Easy enough to immediately use, but enough hidden depth under the surface to take quite a while to master. Fantastic and fun Groovebox. Like many other reviewers here I’ve tried a few music apps, but this one really cuts through. It’s so fun to use and surprisingly powerful. If you’ve ever used an electribe 2 or similar and thought ‘damn I wish it could do that’ - well this app does that! Has an excellent sample player and slicer and nifty step sequencer editor. I’m pretty sure I have to ditch my electribe now, even the synth part of this is better. Highly recommended

Best App of 2017?. Definitely one of my favorites of 2017, so musical, so much fun. Why buy an Electribe when you can get this for fraction of the price.

Love it.. Hopelessly addicted. I was a 90s kid, got a Korg EM-1 in 1999 age 18 and have loved grooveboxes since. I can tell the dev loves them, too, and may have been a 90s kid too -- the inclusion of 32kHz output option certainly suggests this! ;) Already made three full tracks, only bought the app a few days ago, was going to wait for a sale but glad I didn't. This is one of those devs you should support at full price, all the best, looking forward to future developments and refinements, love from Canada!

GR 16 sets the bar for music apps. I have been playing around with tons of iOS music apps since I got my iPad mini three years ago. GR16 is the best music app I have and the one I spend the most time with because of its excellent workflow, reliability, functionality, great sounds and because it’s just so much fun to play, whether composing a song or performing live. It’s very musical, very user friendly, very well programmed and will help you come up with material you wouldn’t believe you are crafting. It’s three synthesizers (subtractive with two oscillators, FM and wavetable), a sampler and drum machine all rolled into one. Whether composing tight pattern songs or going experimental with a live multi synth jam session, the sky is the limit. Sets the bar for all other music apps in my opinion.

Great Update. This was a winner of a great app. Now it's even better. Yes I know it doesn't make sense to be better than a winner, but this app is truly amazing, only if you like to make music. You also have to like having fun. If I'm feeling down I open groove rider and play and the blues goes away.

Who Needs Hardware when you Got GrooveRider. Best GrooveBox For your Drum n Bass And House Tracks

Excellent groovebox - one of the best. There is a lot under the hood on this one. GR-16 mimics a well known KORG groovebox, but adds a lot more which makes this one of the best grooveboxes on iOS and pretty comparable to many hardware grooveboxes. Now with AUv3 and multi-out audio, it really is stellar. My new main groovebox and drum machine for AUM. Every time I make music with it, I am very happy with the result. With the Poison-202 synth (a standout synth on its own), to wavetables, sample import (does not sample in app), FX, automation, the XY pad controllable ARP or FX (great for live play or record your ARP play from the XY pad to quickly make a unique groove), there is a lot to play with to get unique sound design from it. Listen to the sample songs on the jimpavloff YouTube channel to see the wide variety of possibilities there are. Like any hardware style groovebox, you need to take the time to learn how to use it. It isn’t difficult and once you do, you will see why everyone loves this thing.

Dude:Seriously? OF COURSE!. K, really dude..?! Where has THIS been my whole life! If you have Poison 202....then YOU know not to expect anything less from the sonic genius and ability of Dmitrij. Gorgeous, User friendly, simple and sonically vibrant,... I am one happy soft synth enthusiast. My 10 bucks was NOT wasted, and man am I stoked about the potential for Live use outta this thang. I DO have two simple requests though... please in your next update, include more ‘instruments’, and more important: please find a way to make it easier to lock-in on non-decimal values when changing/re-tuning a sample’s pitch. The Oscillator’s pitch control is a littttttle sensitive. Just an idea, but maybe think about replacing the knob control with a Fine and Course tune-setting. But man am I excited to take some more time with this baby, thanks Dmitrij, you are a superior sound designer and whoever does your graphic design is quite impressive as well! * hey there- Maples Ex here, it is Mar. 12, a few months after I wrote the above review, and I felt the need to pop in again just to mention this: I bought this app as soon as it hit the App Store. Since it came out, I can say with full confidence that Dmitrij has been on top of this thang, kicking each version up a notch and just making it better and better almost by the month. There does exist a very select few App developers working in the Synth/Seq./DJ/Electronic music production realm who you just know have their whole hearts into what they put out there, giving their absolute all to their product. Dmitrij is at the top of those few. I loved Groove Rider from day one, and I have had a blast watching it continuously and consistently get even better and better; one or two tweaks at a time. It is worth spending the time with. And lemme also just mention: I get such a kick still out of the design and working within it. For me it’s a throwback to all of my “hardware favorites” from the 90’s, and packed to the gills with all every crucial sound and sample from back in the day. Add parameter tweak-ability to the Nth degree and add a modern library to stack on top, and we get Groove-Rider. Dangerously close to being a one-stop-shop studio application. -Cheers-

Best iOS groovebox. Title says it all, this is the best groovebox on iOS. It’s a Korg electribe and Digitakt rolled into one, plays nice with other apps and is simply a joy to make music on.

The Groove is in the Box!. GR-16 is so ahead of its time, It’ s gonna take me a minute to get through all the goodies inside of this groove box app. It’s definitely a must have. my whole new approach to writing all around music, evolves around the GR-16. In all honesty there are a few things I would love to have had, but those would put it in a higher price bracket. I won’t get into each feature, you have YouTube for that. all I can say! this is an app you need! And yes, I am a real user and I’m not endorsed! Great job! Jim Audio.....

Super intuitive fun.. My first sequencer was the MC-303. This brings back great memories of that step writing feel and does what I always wanted, import samples. Add MIDI support and this is five stars.

Well, I’m beginning to like it. But the is not all that.... Ok. I’m starting to like this app after playing with it for a while. Based on the reviews, I see that it’s a common thing to first hate it and then like it better. It’s definitely a competent app, however it really isn’t intuitive to use and quite clunky. It has many cool features which feel like inspired by some hardware instruments (such as timing shift per step reminding me the Digitakt). However, the interface needs A LOT of work. Please please make it better! For example. Buttons don’t follow one uniform idea of operation that makes the user interact with them easily and intuitively. Some functions have dedicated buttons, sometimes buttons require double pressing to access their second function (for example “slice” button), sometimes they have sub selection menu (for example “copy” button), sometimes buttons behave as if they had a bug. A good example of it are the “touchpad mode” buttons. Once ARP and scale is selected it takes multiple presses of other keys to be able to have just the ARP selected again. After doing so the pad still plays pitch shifted notes unless you press it in a new area. *** The main jog wheel is simply bad. Unresponsive and not easy to operate. It should allow both fast and precise scrolling but is really neither. The graphic design of it is also rather ugly and not immediately suggesting that it needs to be turned. ***Some great features such as parameter locks of individual steps are very VERY tedious to adjust. The window to perform them is small and it becomes tricky even with a small number of steps displayed there. ***Menus are labeled in an awkward way, for example, a confusing IFX list selection method: even if you select an effect other than the one marked with a check mark, the check mark stays unchanged. I’m guessing this indicates the default effect for the given selected sound but some other symbol should be used for it (this is on top of the fact that the way the actual selection is marked looks like just highlighting the parameter before making selection). All these things together are very important and heavily affect the user experience. ***The developer brags about the app having all the controls on one page, MEANWHILE the navigation requires constant menu dives, even for the most basic settings. For example, deleting all steps in all parts requires navigations into the menu, selecting the function, executing selection , then confirming the choice on the yes/no prompt screen! This is such a commonly used function and requires 4 button presses and a menu dive! ***Same with many other settings including BPM/tempo. By the way, the “Tap Tempo” button is well hidden. You have to first change the assignment of the “4th button” in the menu... Why so complicated? ***Menu has a messy structure with weirdly assigned categories and questionable logic used for the items in subcategories. ***cryptic basic operations: for example when you want to copy something you press “copy” button. But then to paste it you have to press “copy” button again and choose “paste” from a pop up list! ***The IFX (effects) have a laughable control - all you get is one knob which controls unknown parameter or set of them. That’s it.! ***You can’t use multiple IFX on one sound (other than combining it with MFX effects controlled by the x/y pad and as a master in the mixer). ***When in “slice” mode individual slices can’t have individual IFX or even just different settings for the same effect. IFX (effects) adjustment affects all of the slices. Same with the filter settings. ***No reverb as one of the IFX effects, only as MFX??? These are just some of the things that make the usability of the app not ideal. This app has some undeniable potential but the interface needs improvement. The functionality leans towards the gimmick side of things sometimes rather than being an intuitive tool for music creations. However, it does offer many many various functions, it definitely is features-rich.
