Real Vintage Sounds. Recognize these sounds from psychedelic to blaxploitation to 70s horror film soundtracks in addition to commercial music of that era. The guitar sounds are familiar from 70s horror soundtracks as dramatic accents & leads. I never knew where they originated from. That was an unexpected bonus: remarkably nostalgic. Considering the sound source of the real instrument is pre recorded samples, this is arguably as authentic as is possible within the confines of digital media. Any limitations of the sounds or the ability to customize them should be consistent with the real instrument. One of the best vintage synth apps. Very inexpensive & worthwhile & no issues w/ excessive battery drain or connectivity. It’s a big app & uses a lot of battery but still seems more efficient than others apps of this size. I would expected to pay at least 3x the price if not more.

Version 4.0.1 Update ruined the app for me (fixed). Before the 4.0.1 update this app worked great on my iPad Pro 12.9 1st generation running IOS 12.3.1, now when trying to open the app it just crashes to the home screen. Useless now. Really thinking about ditching IOS and going back to my desktop PC’s and Reaper. This has literally been the most unproductive year for me since switching to an iPad only workflow, IOS and its apps bring new meaning to the old Windows slang term ‘plug and pray’ Anyway hope this app gets fixed to run again on IOS 12 cause it sounds good. UPDATE: The developer fixed this to work on IOS 12 again almost overnight. Excellent support! ( and a great sounding app, wish there were more presets though) Thanks!

Shouldn’t have to pay for this. Not good enough to pay for at all. Let alone 5 bucks

Grooves. Funk soul brother beat some virtual ivory of a classic sound. The updates keep coming so jam in confidence. 👍👍

Glitchy. Causes garageband to glitch constantly. I lost five songs that were almost complete. That’s several days worth of work gone.

No Sound. I just updated the app (free, was planning to pay soon) and now no sound comes out when I play. Tried through Inter-App Audio with GarageBand, restarting the app, and I still got nothing. The needle doesn’t move either when I play the keys.

Good except the update. This app sounded great until the update this morning. Now when I go through GarageBand it sounds like gibberish. ( crap). It sounds good on its own tho

World class app - gorgeous sound. This is a review of the for-pay upgrade version. I’m obsessed with the Mellotron, and I’ve owned several emulator apps over the years - none come close to this one. Beautiful authentic sounds, the ability to easily record and share, metronome, reverb, tremolo and echo effects, a slider to go up and down the keyboard. LOVE IT!! Great UI - compliments to the developers.

Shuts down Bluetooth. Hey guys I love the app. I have iPhone 6s with iOS 12.2 When the app is running foreground or background the app blocks Bluetooth output to my stereo I have to shutdown the app then stop and restart Bluetooth and reconnect my devices to get output again Love the app lots of fun to play with

It sounds very authentic!. I love the way this mellotron app sounds! I have a couple grips though. one. when I use midi there is no sustain with this app so if I want to put emphasis on a chord the signal it dies out right away when I change chords creating a very very dry sound. Which is actually authentic but we should have the option of it. at least that way we can integrate this app with daw sounds easier. Because otherwise it just doesn’t flow as smoothly and sound blocky in the mix. Now there is reverb which can help with that problem but ends up sound a bit muddy when I have the level of sustain I’m looking for. Which is a shame because The sounds are beautiful and authentic. Second. The app only has 2 octaves to choose from which is fine like the original. If you have a full 49 key then this would work. But, I have a 37 key midi and when I switch octaves the keys start making sound in the middle of my keyboard which makes for some awkward playability. Other than that it sound wonderful and true. Fingerlab Please in corporate sustain in the sounds!

Just what I was hoping for. Just enough features + easy to use + awesome sound = total winner.

Crash town. Crashed 5 times in a row on iPhone 14 pro max. No time for weak sauce:(

Not restoring purchases. It’s not letting me restore my purchases for the pro. Update: It’s fixed and it sounds good.

Crashes whenever I try loading it as an inter app. It will crash and glitch out. It doesn't work as an inter app audio unit or auv3. It has even restarted my iPad.

Terrible - Do NOT buy. I purchased for “Glockenspiel & voices.” Different parts of the keyboard corresponds to either a really weird human voice or a tinkering sound that sounds nothing like a glockenspiel that combine to make a terrible mix. Also pop up / help menus appear randomly at unexpected times and you cannot close them unless you shut down and reopen the app. Do NOT recommend.

Merge in Garage Band not Working. I love the app and the sound quality! The only thing is that merging inside of GarageBand (latest version) isn't working. It works with all my other audiounit apps but with mellowsound (latest version) I get an empty audio. Please help, thanks!!

Restore my purchase. I purchased this app in Dec 2018. I am not able to access the instruments in which I purchased. I have not found a way to contact the maker. Please respond. Thanks

Potential to be the best one. It has been frustrating finding the perfect Tron app, as they all have a lot of issues. This one seems promising. The interface looks great, as are the effects, and the upcoming adsr update is something to look forward to. Two small gripes...I have the latest version, and the battery drain problem is still there. I left my phone unplugged overnight and it was almost dead in the morning, settings said that 83 percent of battery use was from the app. The other small gripe... Some of the Tron sounds they include are not the ones commonly used. Of course, the flute and sad strings are there, but the Tron isn't exactly known for its electric guitar samples, so I hope that in the future, some more of the popular bigger choir sounds and some more orchestra variations make it into the mix. A small gripe, but I play old school Berlin School music and those tones are vital. this certainly has the potential to be the best Tron out there. Suggestion/wish. Ability to blend sounds, like brass and violins, so I can play Watcher of the Skies.😏 Thanks for a great app.

These sounds are epic. Quality over quantity is what this app is about. The sounds are great and I want to thank the designers for not resting on their laurels by continuing to make improvements. I’m looking forward to Au3 capabilities like I looked forward to Derek’s Blue Steel.

Lacking.. I was hoping to get some more piano presets with this app, but for the price, this really isn’t worth it. The FX settings are nice for the app but honestly, the quality of the sounds just don’t meet that professional grade you might hear out of other better-known brands.

Needs more options. I like it and all and it’s really fun and easy but there’s not much for you to do except use the instruments. I mean... at least make Two strings free for and ad or something, or I sound horrible.

Love it!. I truly love this app! I keep coming back to it and the sounds I can make in it never disappoint. It was great even without the envelops, layers and other recently added features, they bring this little app to the top.

Can’t get to keyboard. This app used to work fine, but now, the keyboard is below the visible screen snd I have tried everything to scroll down to the keyboard but nothing works. App is useless!

Serious battery life drain in background!. This sounds amazing, even through the iPhone speaker. However, there is a SERIOUS BUG - according to the Battery control panel in my iOS 12 7 Plus, when this app was in the background, it was a huge battery drain, responsible for 48% of the total drain while the phone was idle (the next highest was 15% for Facebook.) Developers, consider this filing a bug!

Beautiful / 1 request. This sounds nicer than any other instrument app. I love recording layers and exporting them. Is it possible to record external audio? My acoustic guitar played along w piano ? If not, I’ll layer it in another app. Please don’t change this and make it corny.

Good... but I expected a little more. Everything that I wanted this app for (strings vocals etc) has to be paid for. You get three instruments and that’s it. Dissapoited.

WONT EXPORT THE SOUND. I have GarageBand and BeatMaker 3 and when I use this sound it never export into a wave or mp3 I’m bout to try and export as steams to see if that works please do a update for this problem then I will pay for the in app purchases

Pretty darn good. I like this a lot! I’ve seen and heard the original, and I’ve gotta say That this app is as good or better than other apps that represents itself to be a true copy. A true copy would present with a plethora of problems if one say, wanted to take it on the road. A true mellotron would have a pitch that varied by temperature. Moreover, it would be a surprise if the thing would have worked at all! I suppose if you tinkered long enough with this app you could tweak *all*of the sounds, making them nice and shiny... But then this app wouldn’t be able to trigger thoughts about the past and the inclination of some users to create new arrangements with tools to represent something worth keeping. In short it wouldn’t sound like a mellotron. Serious well done folks, I liked it enough to pay for it:)

Mellowsound issue. When I open the app, I have no ability to close it and have to turn off iPhone to close it.

Not getting full use out of this.. July 10, 2021: Even after the most recent update, only the Flute sound shows up using this as an AUv3 instrument in NanoStudio 2 Great sounds all around, very authentic! But, even after the latest update (June 2021), only one sound appears for use as an AUV3 plug-in within NanoStudio 2. If all you want to use is the original Beetle-esque flute sound, then great. However, there’s so much more to the app then that!

Can’t purchase IAP. Get no response when attempting the IAP. The app just sits there. Will update when fixed...

App keeps crashing in GarageBand ** UPDATE: FIXED!**. Great sounding app but every time I keep trying to use it in GB either through IAA or using Audiobus it keeps crashing. Re-installed it and it still crashes. Can’t get any audio recorded. **Update: With the latest update the problem with GB crashes and with Audiobus have been fixed making this one of my favorite apps right now! Thanks for the quick fix and I’ve changed my review accordingly. Hope to see new sounds available soon!

Hello. Besides the recent bug related issues, this is an excellent app. Some of the sounds are better sounding than the mellotron included in Logic Pro. This is astounding for their $5 asking price (the full version). Even so, using the apps free version is sufficient enough for messing around with. Thank you developers for updating the app with new sounds. I love the one preset glockenspiel & voices. The voices has an authoritative and eerie vibe to it.

GOOD SOUND. Had to buy the full version the sounds do work for me I’d rather have a couple instruments that I can use on records vs a bunch of unusable sounds Good job Fingerlab

Sounds great. Already have several other Mellotron options, but this does sound good. Very good. Also, it comes courtesy of a developer rightly known for both quality and reliability. Go ahead.. get it. You won't regret it.

Sounds great but needs higher volume.. I LOVE THIS. BUT I wish so much that it had much higher and lower notes.

MPE? (Checking back in...). I really love what do you’ve made, and I’m waiting for MPE to be able to fully embrace it in my rig. You mentioned it was in the development pipeline? Update 2/7/20: You mentioned in a response dated Dec. 2018 that MPE was to be included in the next update. It seems like that didn’t happen. Do you have any news about your MPE incorporation plans?

This should be a plug-in for GarageBand. Not sure what to do with this if I don’t use a midi output source into a separate DAW

No blending?. I’ll change the number of stars if I’m wrong. But how can there be no blending of sounds with a Mellotron emulator? Regretting the purchase.

Needs work. No ability to mix instruments like on an actual Mellotron? No Brass, or possibility for the classic brass/strings mix? Would be nice to be able to adjust the keys range (more than two octaves), I would rather not slide when playing.

Beautiful inside and out. The beauty of this instrument is surpassed only by Fingerlab’s privacy policy, which I encourage all to read and compare with others. Not even IP addresses are collected. To use an app in this day and age that not only sounds and feels angelic, but seems to have been coded and produced by angels, too, is astonishing. Worth playing for free, worth paying for the full version, and worth standing as a shining example of ethical commerce.

Disappointed. It was super broken , I wouldn’t say wonderfully coded at all- as an above commenter blinded stated. Seems prone to phishing attacks also. I don’t believe that privacy rights are respected either , not assured at all by the privacy policy listed on the app. “Personnal “ - dude it’s spelled “personal” . Yeah, seems super reliable ! - nada “insert sarcasm”. The app had potential , but i don’t believe its been executed correctly, also I’d rather the original machine any day obviously. Too game-y and glitched out way too much. ! Gross malware

Enjoying this app. Had a problem with recording earlier but has now been fixed. Enjoying this app and look forward to more instruments in the future.

Incredible. I have had this app for 2 days and it is awesome, I first played with the flute and winds sound and I thought I it was worth paying for the full version and I was right. I connected by Akai MPK mini to it and it works great and the built in reverb and other effects to it off, Great Game

not too bad, some missing features. love the effects, but it would be great to be able to blend two sounds like most mellotron apps. Also being able to choose the midi channel (it seems to be on omni mode)

Well done. Liking this a lot. Was more than what I was looking for and Fingerlab keeps adding to it. Definitely recommend the app for successfully bringing back a classic sound (among many others as well). (Disclaimer: I don’t have the full version yet, but I plan to buy it soon to support devs that sorted my issue and responded quickly).

Best mellotron app. It’s really good for an iOS app and what’s the best thing is it doesn’t have any ads which is just great

Good Start for first build. Should’ve named it “MelloSound” instead, dropping the “W” altogether. Capital M&S. Needs a split keyboard. More Instruments and Choir voices. Mix between 2 different Instruments. Still a very good Mellotron emulator!

Mellowsound Review VIOLON ENSEMBLE???. Just installed the update today 28.2.2019. It is getting better. I wish their was a soprano recorder sample. That would be great for doing ‘ As Tears Go By by the Rolling Stones’, ‘Along Comes Mary by The Association’, and That recorder solo in Paul McCartney’s ‘Somebody Who Cares’. 1982 album Tug of War. Under the STRINGS section, there is a ‘VIOLON ENSEMBLE’. Is this a viola/violin ensemble or someone made a typo error with the word VIOLIN? Big Thanks and keep up the great work to the developers!!!

Greatest sounding app for the mellotron yet. So many people try reproduce that old vintage flute sound, and you guys have done it now I don’t have to go looking for a mellotron m400 form 1964 when I can get it for free or 5 bucks. I making an I movie and now I can put my own tracks in for the music. Thank you Fingerlab
