Nintendo Switch App Comments & Reviews 2026
Judged a bit harshly. It’s not the best app but is judged a bit harshly. So first the fact that you need the online membership to use the app makes sense, because what would you do on the app aside from play with your friends online? And if you didn’t have one of the games that were supported then again, you wouldn’t have any real use for the app. There’s plenty of other apps that you could use for voice calls, this app is just for people doing call while playing games simultaneously. And also the online membership is a bargain compared to the memberships offered by Microsoft and Sony. This app could’ve been designed a lot better or implemented directly onto the console, but it still is an okay app. I honestly think I’ll just keep on using FaceTime instead of this, but I still think that people are giving this app a hard time.
certainly an app that has functions. i am not one to complain about what i am given, and for the most part, that applies to this app as well. i use this almost exclusively to check splatoon modes and salmon run shifts, and likely will continue to after splatoon 3 releases. as much convenience as this app has offered me, i do believe there to be lots more unused potential in this app that i would be so hyped to see realized! i'd love to see the clip-sharing opportunities the ssb section expanded upon--being able to share clips from any game, browsing ones your friends have shared, maybe even discovering some that are popular among fans. the app would also be a wonderful place to spread announcements and relevant news through notifications--and widgets! it would be wonderful if i could easily view information such as salmon run shifts or mode rotations from the convenience of the home page. this app harbors so much potential, and as an Avid Nintendo Switch User i really hope to see it grow.
Broken, needs more features and game support. The reason I’m writing this review is because the app doesn’t even launch on my iPhone XR. I’ve reinstalled the app multiple times, and it was broken before I updated to iOS 14. I normally wouldn’t have an issue with bugs surrounding a major software update, but a month is way too long. Update your app. Now, on to things I wish were changed in the app if it worked. The support for voice chat is terrible! Voice chat only works for specific games and I’ve noticed that even games that have online multiplayer don’t have voice chat options in the nso app. There’s no option to just call or text your friends like I can on Xbox live (or even the Wii), or even to see if they’re online, so I usually just use discord or messenger to call my friends, thus making this app useless. I seriously feel ripped off paying $20 for an online service that isn’t much better than what was on my 3ds almost a decade ago for free. I gladly pay $60 for Xbox live gold because it’s objectively a good service. I wouldn’t be so disappointed if I didn’t know Nintendo could do better. But they have such high quality standards for their games, hardware, and (in the past) system software that I know they’re capable of better. Please, offer a better service, even if that means charging more, and fix your app. 🤙
the problem with the 1 stars. I understand your guys’ need to vent about voice chat not being imbedded into the console but that’s not a description of this application itself. this app is s u p e r helpful alongside the Nintendo Switch. voice chat is integrated into games by a case by case basis on games however due to the secondary nature of the switch’s friend capabilities i don’t think we should expect a party system to come along any day soon, furthermore since calling your switch friend with your phone is what you’d do anyway to work around this issue this app is fabulous. also switch’s don’t have bluetooth headset comparability for whatever reason so this app allows us to circumvent this. nice job nintendo
Pros and Cons. (AND SUGGESTIONS). While the app is very easy (I use it for animal crossing) I wish there was more. So my first point is that Nintendo Online is a little overrated. I love the low price, it’s very convenient. But for a lot of people, I’ve heard and read, (and I agree) we used to be able to have all these features built in for a much lower price. I do think that this is a little money hungry, but because I use Nintendo Online purely for animal crossing, I am satisfied with the product. After saying that, I wish the Animal Crossing part of the app had more features!! Please, please add more. Some ideas that would be good would be to add your encyclopedia into the app so you can see what bugs and fish your villager have caught from the app. Another thing that is helpful would be a calendar to show you things like villagers’ birthdays and when the fishing tournaments are! This would make it 10x more amazing than it already is. Thank you!! :)
Disappointed. I just got my first Nintendo product since the Wii (a switch oled) so when I saw there was an app I was impressed I figured it would be similar to the Xbox or PS apps where you can see downloads, update games from your phone, have text chat, link any game under your account to the app, etc and I launch the switch app to find literally nothing like actually nothing since I’m new I don’t have console friends and I don’t really have a variety of games so to find out Mario isn’t supported in the app is flabbergasting it’s the og game it has such a wide following that it was turned into a movie yet I can’t access it from the app the only feature this has is voice chat (there are literally no other buttons other than settings) which is no use with no one to talk to thank you for calling me lonely Nintendo
Add a messaging/invite system!!!!. Nintendo please answer every gamers request and add a messaging system to the switch!!! Doing so will make it so so SO simple to cooperate and join forces with other people! Not only that, but if you add an invite system (that limits player invites to 3-5 every 5 minute to prevent spamming), then the players can see what their friends are doing, and directly join them from said invite. Judging from experience, whenever I got an invite from my friends on my PS4, I was able to join them right away, but with this system as it is, there is the trouble of spending 30+ minutes trying to figure out how to start a match with my friends on one of my favorite games. All I’m saying is that if there were any improvements you can make to the system, it would be this very crucial and simple step to developing a better way to game on the switch. Thank you for anyone who read this, and anyone from Nintendo please keep this is mind.
Pretty good for Splatoon players. If you’re like me who plays Splatoon then you’ll find this app useful as this is where you can see battle stats and stuff like that, there is even a shop where you can order gear that have different abilties. This app also has nooklink, which is alright. You can scan qr codes for custom designs, get daily nook points for exclusive stuff, and type more easier. I play animal crossing but don’t use this nearly as much as splatnet. The other services are zelda notes, which can serve as a GPS alongside some features you can access in game (daily effects, voice memories, etc), smash world, which lets you see uploaded videos and stuff (you will never use this, trust me) and another cool feature is you can send screenshots and videos directly from your switch 2 (idk if this is also a switch 1 thing) to the switch app. Much better than the previous method of having to scan 2 qr codes. Overall, this app serves its purpose and if you use NSO and switch and all that then you will find this app satisfactory.
Small but important nitpick. I know this is so small compared to NSO and the stigma around it, but why is there barely anything for Eggstra Work in SplatNet3? It’s on the same page as Big Run, but we can’t see stats or high scores at all?! Why can we only see how many times we’ve gotten in the top 5%? So many Salmon Run players work so hard to overfish to practice for these events, yet not only do they happen once a season, but Eggstra Work receives very little fanfare at all. It got more attention on Splatoon JP’s Twitter than in the game itself or in the DEDICATED APP. Please give Eggstra Work the same love that Splatfests and Big Run get. Not even 1 million players have even played the event, which is a tiny fraction out of the 15 million who own Splatoon 3. I know not all of this relates to the app, but it would help get the event more known and get more people to play the game. If you are reading this Nintendo, thank you very much for your time.
Zelda Notes App is….OKAY. Went back in to play BOTW and TOTK with this app. Easily the best Zelda tracker for those trying to get all the Koroks, Shrines, and Quests finished BUT it has absolutely no DLC support. Shame they went thru with this amazing idea of an app, then just completely neglected DLC and all Chest locations. Great idea, but feels unfinished. Cannot give it above a 3 star for this reason alone. Very disappointing. Daily Bonus also needs to scale with in-game difficulty. Rewards are useful in the first 2 hours of gameplay, outside that they are near useless. Item Sharing is good in theory (haven’t tried it) but it seemed clunky to use. They need to consider implementing this in the next Zelda game to make it even SLIGHTLY multiplayer. Voice Memories are a perfect addition to an already complete game, just wish it was linked to a Quest in-game instead of just app based. I should say this is all based on BOTW play-through, have not tried TOTK yet.
Pointless. This app is an utter disappointment. I used to use it to “purchase” exclusive Splatoon 2 gear and to check records and stats, but other than that it is almost entirely pointless, beyond the fact that these things should have been implemented into the game from the beginning. Most games require this app to use voice chat, but unlike other apps, this is required to stay open or it kills the connection. The addition of SSB hasn’t provided anything new or exciting - just a bunch of videos that are arbitrarily presented in a very confusing format. Spirits can be grouped but again, this is something that could have been part of the actual game. What is the point of this app? After 3 (?) years, these are still the only two games utilizing the service and only one is doing a halfway decent job, despite the fact that it’s heading out the door anyway. RIP Spla2n. Nintendo has all but abandoned this app and anyone who believes otherwise has a lot of explaining to do.
A antiquated solution for a company stuck in the past....... I didn’t mind the app at first, especially given that I’ve never had an opportunity to utilize it, moreover, none of my fiends who own Switch own Splatoon. But, now that they EXPECT me to pay for this service I’m miffed to put it mildly. Nintendo is so focused on protecting children, that it comes at the total expense of their more mature audience. This is just the sort of thing that caused me to skip the Wii-U & buy an X-Box 360, & the ONLY reason I’m back is because of the greed present in modern gaming: micro-transactions, day 1 DLC, lack of single player, & etc. Nintendo doesn’t seem to be on that bandwagon, but they are still stuck in the past with regards to online gaming. I didn’t mind paying Microsoft to access their online service, moreover, it had EVERYTHING I needed: DMs, party chat, seamless online integration, a functional buddy list, & in-game voice chat. The Switch has almost none of these features, & it’s outrageous that they expect us to pay them given that. I’d play more Splatoon if I could talk to my teammates, but I can’t & it’s frustrating. The Switch already has parental controls, expand those to protect children so you don’t have to hinder my experience. If anything, I need protection from those children online!! I rarely had trouble with other adults while playing Halo or Gears of War, however, I frequently had to mute 12 year olds whom always seemed to know about my sexual preferences or deceased mother some how. 😒
Nintendo you can do a lot better. Assuming that you have to be 13 to already use this app I’d inspect more for a mature audience let text chatting through maybe iMessage or the app itself, or allow us to voice chat on the switch itself if I can take my switch on the go why do I want to use another portable device separate It feels like how in Mario Party 10 for amibo Party where you took your turn by tapping your figure to the game pad but I still had to use the wii remote to play the mini games or for certain events. One thing I do like is being able to chat while in sleep mode and ussing a different app but that’s about it also why not have us use it for all online multiplayer games especially arms since that’s like the new splatoon I don’t know if I’m even going to by the online service now.
This should be built into the Switch... It’s 2017 for crying out loud! This should be built into the the switch! All the other consoles you can chat and talk to your friends without this app... even the Xbox 360 and PS3 had it, so power should not be an issue. If you want to hear your game, and not just your chat, you are going to need a bunch of adapters in order to do this not to mention phone chargers and your Switch undocked with it charging in the awful place the charger is located at.. with all of this... my Switch is my console for Nintendo exclusives... and my Xbox One is for everything else... it’s almost to the point where you might was well use Skype because it doesn’t drain you phone battery as quickly! The first party games on Switch, make it 100% worth getting one... (Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Metroid Prime 4)(and many more if you never had a Wii U.. (I have one) )but all the other games.. are better played on all other platforms, unless you want to play on the go...
Great Start. This app is a great start and has a lot of potential. Yes, voice chat on phones are a bit silly for playing online. It should have been imbedded into the switch, like some third party headphones you can buy to voice chat with others. Sadly, this app only offers Splatoon 2 and not other games, but the switch is only a year old so you have to give it time. Plus some games do not even offer multiplayer mode like Splatoon 2. You can not voice chat or even play Mario Odyssey in multiplayer mode. Hopefully that makes sense. I believe Nintendo has a lot up there sleeves as new games are being developed. Then this app may help a lot. If you really wanted to voice chat there is always Discord or other voice chat apps, but if you are comparing it with Xbox or PS4 then you shouldn’t even own a switch because Nintendo does there own unique thing and most people are happy with what they are doing.
Not about Nintendo Online. I’m not going to sit here and whine about an online service that requires servers to run costing money, especially when it costs *33%* of what other, older services historically cost per year. Get over it people. 17 years ago games were made out of sprites and 7 years ago they were made out of what I’ll now call primitive 3D renders. These assets were previously made by skilled, professional adults. Well, guess what, times have changed and now *little children* make these assets for fun in their art or graphic design class. Times simply are not the same, nor are they at all comparable. Things don’t stay free forever. Anyone who actually complains about this demonstrates a lack of critical thinking and makes the rest of us look bad. Instead what I’ll complain about is downloading this app three (3) weeks ago on iOS 13.5 and not being able to even sign into the app for the first time, with the app only showing an infinite loading circle on a grey background. There have been no further patches in these 3 weeks or word from developers regarding the issue.
Nice, but problem.. I have a little brother who loves to play Zelda games with me. But ever since we got Zelda Notes, we kept having to log out and log in to each of our profiles to scan each others QR codes, and it gets really annoying. Why can't there just be an option to save a profile, and just select it when you log in? And I don't know if there already is. If there is a way to do that, can you please tell me how? We also have another thing. Not a problem, but a request :) Can you add some Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity and Age of Imprisonment profile rewards to the Nintendo Switch online sometime soon? I really want to use Calamo/mini Deku Tree as my profile pic. Ps- Compliment :D OMG the final battle with the Forbidden Construct was literally so epic, I had no words when I beat it!!! Keep it up!!! Also, can you give me a small hint on what the next open world Zelda game will be? Can it still have Sky islands and the depths? Those additions in TotK were awesome! Can the next game have you be able to go beyond Hyrule? Maybe traveling through time, or maybe other planets, dimensions, ooooh back in time to when the Zonai were still alive! And noooo!!!! What about BEFORE the Zonai??? What came before??? Idk I am so proud of your games 🥲 𝓚𝓮𝓮𝓹 𝓲𝓽 𝓾𝓹, 𝓝𝓲𝓷𝓽𝓮𝓷𝓭𝓸!!!
Smash voice chat. Voice chat works fine for me despite it needs to reconnect every time before and after a match in battle arenas. It is understandable if Nintendo doesn’t really want to deal with messaging, but at least give us an option to invite people to our battle arenas. I have met some friends just by playing online, but it’s so hard to play with them again because I have to search all the arenas and figure out where they are at. What’s the point of a friend list if you can’t even interact with them?!?! I’m not asking for a messaging function but a simple invitation function that every console out there has it. The app also seems like an undergrad’s programming project. It doesn’t even look like a developed app. If I show the app to my programming friends who don’t have a switch, they’d all laugh at it because it’s a total joke. Come on Nintendo, you can do better.
Love it. Ok to all the negative ratings... please stop it's rude the switch most likely can't handle VC being built into it. I love this app it's a completely new way Nintendo is making VC available like everyone wanted. Yes the app is free the online service is not they are aware all free apps have some sort of payment to it so they get paid for it being used and add new updates/ features. Rating it bad for one reason (VC) is not going to help them. Suggest ideas like what I'd like to see in an update would be more compatible games, have it be able to be widgets compatible with who is online and have a message system if you mute your mic and lastly being able to send and receive friend requests in app. These are just ideas not demands. LOVE YOU NINTENDO KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK YOU DO FOR YOUR COMPANY❤️❤️❤️
More use for games it’s designed for. I really do like the spirit team creation features for ultimate and the recording side for splatoon but if this review get in the app developers hands I would recommend having more immersive features added for support for the games like guides or character stats or how in game tip are read through loading screen as well as update history so it’s one place they can quickly access instead of going to a website and waiting for people to sift through it and for spirit team building it would be helpful for it to display descriptions on what the effects do and if they stack or not and I would suggest that for any games that are supported by this app if DLC is made available details can be seen through the app as well as game purchase like how on the console you a wishlist or prepurchase option it’d be convenient if the eshop and its contents are visible through the app just like how Sony and Microsoft do with their apps in relation to their platforms you can buy the games and dlc using a mobile cellular device without being restricted of not have WiFi connections to make purchases for the console whether you have it in your hand or not
ZELDA NOTES. Zelda notes shouldn’t be a switch 2 exclusive, re-releasing an 8 year old game and making the only appeal the better graphics and a new app feature is desperate, as much as i love nintendo, anything switch 2 related has been nothing short of disappointing, and as someone who is still replaying botw and totk on the switch lite, i was extremely upset to realize that zelda notes was going to be switch 2 exclusive. Other features of this app are alright, but i also have issues with my animal crossing island in this app. I started out with the regular switch, then transferred to the switch lite, but when i did so my island never transferred, and i can’t change it to the new island i started on the lite in this app, so im just stuck looking at an island i no longer go on.
Good Ideas, Bad Base. I love splatnet for Splatoon it's a really good idea I Actually wouldn't mind this app if the Switch app had a different base but sadly it does not. The main point from what I understand was the chat system and It failed bad. I tried to be optimistic but it's like a worse discord + the only saving grace that is splatnet. 1.For one you can't chat while your not playing a game. 2.You can't leave the app and still hear anybody. It doesn't really affect much but it's dumb. 3. It supports nothing else. I'll be honest I don't Have MK8DX or Arms. But it doesn't support it. I understand that MK8 and Arms can't have something like splatnet but why can't you voice chat with it on those games. I hope they add it sooner but once again it's dumb. How are you gonna release an app and have it only support one game. As I stated earlier this app is pretty much only useful if you have Splatoon 2 because of Splatnet which is once Again a REALLY good idea and it works really well. But besides that your better off just using discord. Me and my friends end up using discord over the app even when where playing Splatoon 2. Note:Use headphones when using Discord it'll be hard to hear otherwise. I can see this app getting better. It's not broken and can definitely improve but as it stands it's only really good for splatnet.
Hassle when I can just make a vc on Xbox for the same thing and shorter time. This is a good app just a hassle becuse nobody uses it and you can just make a discord vc PlayStation vc or xbox party n half the time and I wish switch had a thing to message people but no and why do you have to have to have a smart device just to make a vc and not just do what xbox and PlayStation do and let you make a vc on the acthullal counsel and Nintendo switch online is not good you have to pay money just to play with real people the exspanshion pack is good tho i will say switch does have a easy way to enter a online room to play with a friend if you do buy switch online it is a bit harder then PlayStation or Xbox but still efficient and I git this isint a Nintendo switch review but really Nintendo why did you stop making 2d Mario games this is bassicly all I have I hop a dev reads this but based off how busy Nintendo is and big I bet they won’t read it
Its a good app but doesnt update. I deleted my old island a few months after downloading this app last year in july. I restarted my island and renamed it and everything. I went to check the app on my phone to see if it updated my nook phone but it still stuck on my old island which i deleted the data for. Ive tried to fix it but it doesn’t work. I logged out of it on my phone and logged back in hoping it would get new data that i reset my island but it didn't. I tried deleting the app and re-downloading it, still didn't work. I cant find anything on the support page to help me so im hoping by writing this review, someone can help me out? Or maybe just let some people know it doesnt update your island if it was deleted. If anyone knows how to help please help me lol.
Not good for Nintendo's online payment. Also a horrible idea. I don't think we should be using an APP to voice chat with our friends. This feature should be built into the switch. Also if you want to protect young players, make a party system like Microsoft on Xbox One and Sony on ps4. And if that's not good enough, make the party system Friends only. What I'm trying to say, is that there are so many solutions to chatting. And Nintendo didn't follow one. Before we start paying you for online, PUT VOICE CHAT ON THE SWITCH! Also another reason this app is horrible, is because it only supports splatoon 2. Only that game out of all the games on this amazing console. Nintendo, listen to your fans. Or else, when people start paying online, you don't scratch your heads wondering why your not making as much money as you though. Not to mention your online history has already been horrible. We shouldn't be using an app to chat for a console game. All I'm saying is put voice chat on switch and listen to the community before we pay for online.
People are whiney manchildren, the app is good.. Firstly, I would like to say, it does what it says it does; nothing more, nothing less. As somebody who plays splatoon 2 A LOT, I love being able to see what friends are on which team for splatfests, being able to get exclusive gears, and view a lot of data of your profile. Also I would like to say voice chat will technically work even without a mic attachment. Also, people will NOT stop complaining about bad connection for online games, which is more than likely THEIR WiFi, so people SERIOUSLY need to invest in a lan adapter. Compared to other online services, I think $20/Year is a fair price; but mainly because I practically never have connection issues, even though I do not own a lan adapter. It does what it’s meant to.
More Frustrating Than No Online service. When playing Smash last night, my friends and I tried using this app for voice chat thinking “It can’t be that bad, the internet exaggerates”. I am here to report that the internet did not exaggerate. It is that bad. All you can do is “start voice chat” which opens a voice chat with everyone in your online session. But in smash online, every match is a session and where you put your token on the match setup screen counts as a different session. So who you can talk to is constantly changing, with people dropping in or out depending on what they’re doing. This is baffling. On top of this poor design, the app devours battery and does not handle gracefully your phone locking or shutting off the screen, with chat cutting out when this happens. I was constantly having to tap my phone screen to keep it awake. And lastly, it crashes. You’d wonder why nobody was talking to you, look down at your phone, and it would be sitting back on the home screen, the app having crashed out. After the 6th crash it wasn’t funny enough to keep using and I switched to Discord. This was a 0/10 experience. Not only was it inconvenient, it didn’t do what I wanted, it was confusing, and it crashed constantly. Nintendo should be embarrassed. This is worse than if they had offered nothing at all. I’m mad I paid for this terrible online service.
Doesn’t work. Nintendo need to get their online gaming presence sorted out, or stay out of it all together For some reason they have two types of Nintendo logins/profiles. Why not consolidate that? Beyond that, when you’re trying to recover a password the keyboard disappears in this app. Above and beyond that, I will never stop buying Nintendo products. They are my childhood up to this point and hold some nostalgia that I will always treasure. But I am very discouraged at paying any amount of money to play any online games (like smash) just for their to be constant networking issues and repercussions on the users for poor connections. Why would I give them more money for something that they don’t seem to be investing themselves in fixing? Plus I have a grip with paying full cost on switch games that are years old or even ports from the Wii U. Like I said, I’ll always support Nintendo, but I feel like they don’t support us. At this point this review is pouring over into something else entirely. But it’s completely mind blowing that a company as reputable as Nintendo or that a game as competitive as smash has such bad connection issues or general network gaming issues where games developed for online play, over a decade ago, didn’t have or quickly fixed these issues.
Bug and Complaints. My internet is fine on my end, and I even tried with cellular data and as soon as I open the app it says that I have poor internet connection. I’ve been trying to use the app for a month but it says the same message every day and prohibits me from using it. I paid for a 3 month membership to see if I would continue paying for it later on but this service doesn’t even work. I want to scan QR codes and that is one of the main reasons why I paid for Online and the app doesn’t even work. I just deleted it and am going to download it again and see if that somehow fixes it but the fact that I even have to do that makes this app get a bad rating from me. Also, nobody likes having to pay for Online. We already spent loads on the switch console (expensive as hell) and loads on the games that require Online to even be fun. Shows how greedy big companies are, and shows how they don’t care about the consumer. Horrible service.
TERRIBLE APP!!!. I’m sorry to say this Nintendo, but your online system IS RIDICULOUS!!! You make amazing and well-developed systems with the BEST games of all-time. From classics to modernize, you manage to improve greatly! As you are amazing at the accomplishments you’ve made during the years, knowingly some things were flawed, one thing I have to say is that you continue to worsen in is LACK OF PROPER ONLINE FEATURES!! I know you have gotten complaints about this before, but it’s clear that you have a online system for a reason! How is it that there’s a friend system, but still can’t chat with friends mainly out and occasions inside games?!?! You got rid of your old online system for a alternative?! A inconsiderate attempt to download a app that doesn’t support very much gaming. What I suggest is maybe considering listening to those around you to add friend messaging much like your competitors with able ability to start parties to voice chat in the background while playing a software. Rather you up the system or create an app WITHIN your switch system that enables these features, without the need of phones or devices! No offense to this app, but it’s no good!! I’ve been having a few problems that I don’t feel the need to go in details with. You’re an amazing company, but you lack at working in the fields of online systems. You guys have the capabilities, but you don’t give yourself that management, and you should try working at that too! Thank you, and hope you understand. :)
Asinine doesn’t even begin to describe it. Where to start... most asinine implementation of online services that I’ve ever seen. See a buddy online and want to play? Nope can’t send an invite. Left your phone at home by accident? Nope no voice chat for you.... seriously Nintendo has been a money grab, corner cutting, not listening to actual consumers since I can remember and this is their shrine of “SCREW THE CUSTOMER, we are Nintendo we do what we want, they will buy it anyway” type company. Seriously whoever came up with the online functionality of the switch needs to be taken out back of HQ building and Shot, or at the very least fired and humiliated. A five year old could have come up with a better solution. I pray the Microsoft partnership gets you guys modernized and your heads out of your rear! NO ONE wants a gimmick, we want what works, what is tried and true, with a little innovation thrown in... stop being idiots!
Zelda notes are fire but need to track a bit more. I really love that I can track my BOTW progression. Some people aren’t a fan but as a veteran of the game I decided to turn off my in-game map through settings (Pro HUD) and explore the world using the audio directions. It’s a lot harder but it’s a challenge that gets me to spend more time enjoying the game. I’ve spent a lot of my time just climbing around trying to find the sun so I can tell which direction is north to find all the shrines and korok seeds. Definitely worth it if you have the switch 2 edition. My only complaints are that there is no way to track some in game items like armor, special trinkets or progress in terry town which I’d consider all collectibles necessary for a 100% playthrough.
Used to work, now it doesn’t launch. My device is an iPhone 11 IOS 15.5 and the app used to work perfectly fine prior to your update when you gave the app a UI enhancement overhaul, the app looks beautiful from the pictures provided and I’ve been very excited to start using the Nintendo app every day now. I check the Appstore every day for an update that could hopefully patch this issue, and nothing yet. Sadly I’ve quite literally checked the App Store daily for about 3 months now and nothing. The Nintendo app does launch, after prompting to sign in I do, and immediately after selecting my profile I get a brief black screen and crash. I’d desperately wanted this issue patched and would be eternally grateful if there were a bug fix patch that would allow me to use the app again. Once again very beautiful job with the UI overhaul and new integrations but it would be nice if I could experience them with the rest of everyone lol. Thank you for taking the time to read my review, I’ll remove the review and give you another 5 star review when I’m able to use the app again. You’re a bright and talented team so I’m looking forward to a patch in the very near future! Thanks again
It isn’t perfect but.... The Nintendo Switch Online app is honestly something that should be praised in its efforts instead of shamed for the final production. The app was made to give another point of view on nintendo switch games and make it easier to connect to your Nintendo Switch friends. The app has additional functionality for Splatoon 2, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and Online Voice Chat. The Splatoon 2 and SSBU portions are very well put together and makes things for the user very beneficial in terms of finding what they need quickly, and providing good additional content for your Switch games. The Online Voice Chat is not the best, but it definitely isn’t the worst. The purpose of the chat system is to talk to friends, teammates, and other in-game allies in NSO supported games. Sure it may be a bit buggy or laggy, but it could be WAY worse. A lot of people will state “we can just use X app instead of this for voice chat” and will poorly rate this app for that exact reason. I say for what they were trying to do for the users of the app, they succeeded.
Please use this app as an opportunity to go above and beyond.. This app could have been something really great. I love the idea of ditching the headset for my phone and a pair of buds. But then I saw that only a very small handful of games are supported. Why? Why isn’t there a small little notification that pops up in the corner of the T.V. screen when someone joins the voice chat room. The uselessness of this app is mind boggling. I would love to be able to access something like an activity log on the 3ds, or buy stuff on the Eshop straight from my phone (like the Steam app). There’s nothing to say about this app, because it literally doesn’t do anything, apart from a horribly implemented voice chat system, a keyboard for Animal Crossing, and some extra gear for Splatoon 2. Smash’s section is the most useless of em’ all. Only being able to look at recently uploaded stage builder stages, without the ability to filter it and see the popular, actually good stuff. Overall, when it comes to games, Nintendo hit it out of the park this generation. But when it comes to hardware and software other than games, they’ve reached the bottom of the barrel (you could also say their starting to ‘drift’ off course).
Very bad.... This app is very bare bones. I know PS4 and Xbox has apps too but they are actually USEFUL and they offer the same functionality on their own systems. Nintendo is now charging $20 a year (I know it’s not a lot but this service isn’t worth anything. It should be free.) The fact that we have to pay for a service that offers literally nothing except NES games that you can literally find on your computer or other consoles free of charge is sad. The fact that cloud saves don’t work for Splatoon 2 (the game that is making people by this service) is pretty embarrassing. I know they want to prevent cheating but there are other ways around that. They delayed this service to a year, and there is nothing. It’s embarrassing. There aren’t any dedicated servers either. The online on the WII U was better (and free). Nintendo is basically making money for doing absolutely nothing. There are no big online games that need this service except Splatoon 2 (and no, Mario kart doesn’t count because the online there is so bare bones, and you’re using your own WiFi, and Arms... people still play arms?) Games like fortnite and paladins (basically anything non-Nintendo) don’t need this service to be played online. So yes, hopefully Nintendo adds MUCH more in the future. This glitchy “service” should be free.
Looking back on Nintendo online. I got my second Nintendo console in 2017 around September or December, when I was around ten or eleven. Nothing was like the switch. It was almost magical! it had everything that made the Wii great, and even more. it was almost like It was the only thing I ever did then. Game after game I completed, and release after release I excitedly waited for. but then I noticed something in 2018. My joy cons were acting a little wonky. The motion controls moved by themselves. The joysticks too. I was so confused, this was never an issue on other consoles. I searched for solutions everywhere but they were all complicated and unusable at the time. I just had to live with it, and this was the start of my eventual hatred of this console. Soon came Nintendo switch online of which I didn’t have for months. I couldn’t play any of the games I wanted to, and when i got it, I was astounded on how much it didn’t work. Smash was unplayable, splatoon 2 was a disaster, and any game with online to come after failed even worse. This app didn’t work even more, as despite the convoluted form of the voice chat system, it was a cool novelty. But now, I have to pay for it. 20 bucks for a year isn’t much, but why? There’s no reason to pay for an online service that doesn’t work that goes with a console that is a technological failiure that goes with an app that solved an issue that never needed fixing. I technically have 12 pairs of joycons now, eight of which successfully broken. the switch is a nightmare, it almost seems like it was on purpose. As you, Nintendo, fight amidst a lawsuit for your failiure and your own company denying its existence, I hope you think about the failiures of the switch and this service you make us pay for, because if I may be frank, it’s horrible and you should never do it again.
Needs some work.... So, as we all know, Nintendo has had some questionable game experiences as with their past online gaming qualities. But, there’s a lot of things that should be fixed about this app and just the service. But, I am talking about the app, not the service. Anyway, voice chat. There is a possible way to make this better: Allow us to use a headset via the headphone jack, implement a audio jack in the Switch Pro Controller. You get the idea. Also, if you have the app and you enter a game that is supported, you can replace voice chat with an actual chat; and other people can chat with a headset. Here’s another idea...another chat function. It would be nice if through this app you could chat to your friends...especially for Animal Crossing, as you have codes. It would also be just convenient. Most of the previous features are only here for convenience. “Everybody relies on and uses their phone, so why not implement a voice chat system in the app?” Other things I think are useful, but my list of possible things they could change could work if applied.
I’ve gone and restarted my animal crossing island. Once you complete the story and make your island 5 stars there’s honestly nothing really to do and so I reset my island (and the backed up data) and made a new one and saved the data to whatever it is and it still shows my old island and I’ve tried multiple things but nothing has fixed it and that’s just one of the problems I’ve had with the app, I could go on for a long time about all the problems with the app, Nintendo and pricing and with how money hungry and private this company is you’d think they’d have a better online service then Xbox, they really don’t, everything works so much better and games are always overpriced with deals that only take off 5-10 dollars, overall I’ve been with Nintendo since the first console and I’m done with how expensive everything is. Paying for online is by far the stupidest thing they’ve made and I’m done
I literally can’t login. please, please help. I’ve tried multiple times, but right when I login to the account I want to use, and i’m at the step that says “select this account” I tap that, IT WONT LOG IT. i’ve tried everything. googling. yt videos. making new account, changing pass and email, even using reddit. I. cant. login. it literally refuses to let me login, even when I make sure it is the right and proper account that I have set to my nintendo switch. i’m so confused, can someone please help? it’s not like I haven’t used the app before, because I have, mostly for splatoon 2. all I did was take a break from my switch, and my nintendo switch online subscription ran out, so I deleted the app for storage. i’ve been playing again but like I’ve stated a lot, I can’t login. please help me. i’m so confused, even tried asking my friend who uses the app and we don’t know what to do or why it isn’t working.
Needs to be included on the console!. Edit-1: Because the last patch addressed so many of my initial issues I'm revising my score from 1 star to 3 stars. I still believe the chat functionality needs to be native on the Switch and not on a mobile phone that creates a clumsy setup. That said they fixed enough issues for me to raise the rating. Most of the functionality of this app should be included on the console. To have this exclusively on a phone app is cumbersome and unnecessarily. That being said if you do have an app it should have certain functions that all other console apps have. This app has none of the following: 1) Ability to work when the screen is locked is a must. This app does not allow this and if the screen locks you're disconnected from chat. This will cause major battery drain. 2) You should be able to multitask. You cannot open another app when the Switch app is open. If you do you'll be disconnected from chat. No texts, no web-browser, no email, and no phone. 3) You should have the ability to message anyone on your friends list. Sadly you can only talk with people actively in the lobby you create. If you see a friend online you can't just message them to see what game to play. All the above are functions that Sony and Microsoft have on their console apps. There are also 3rd party apps such as Discord that provide these functions. I would recommend using one of these 3rd party apps for your Nintendo online gaming. This is a surprisingly lazy effort by Nintendo!
Absolutely Love this App. I absolutely love the Nintendo Switch online app. I can easily be notified when my friends are online. I only use this for Animal Crossing New Horizons. Some of the things I wish were available is an option to delete old island (if you see your old island in change player settings) if you restarted to a new island and the option to type full sentences in the chat in Animal Crossing New Horizons. I hope there will be a delete player in change player section part of the settings in Animal Crossing New Horizons. Keep up the good work and thank you to the developers making the app better and better with each update.
Merge this with My Nintendo App and bring to West. Merge this app with the My Nintendo app in Japan, enable a party chat feature for “best friends”, a text chat feature, game invites, themes, playtime metrics, embedded the eshop store here so we can favorite games and purchase for download, add funds, etc. I don’t mind the solution being an app, just wish the app was robust! Make it easy for informed consumers of Nintendo products to connect with friends online in 2022 and beyond… this is kind of sad to even have to suggest. I’d much rather use this app than discord if it worked more seamlessly with the switch hardware. Perhaps I can click voice chat on my switch and, boom, I get a notification on my phone to start the room, or vice versa. Oh and… for the love of goodness add themes already…. And about 100 new game icons would be nice.
No actual chat function. I almost exclusively use this for Splatoon 3, and it’s great! But I do have some problems with it. 1. No genuine regular chat function at all, I sometimes play with my friends on voice chat. But I just wish I could chat sometimes. 2. There is exclusive stuff like gear that you can’t get in game. Yes people can download the app but some people don’t even know this app exists so they’re missing out on a lot of content, for example: The next 2 salmon run rotations, or any mode rotations. You cant see most of the progress you see on the app in game. 3. You can't see your progress for badges in game and even in the app it’s pretty hard to see how much progress you’ve made. In conclusion, I think the app is very useful but just has some problems that should be addressed, but it’s Nintendo so it’s a coin flip.
Wish one thing. If this whole online chat system is ran through an app it could be more. A simple update is all that’s needed. You guys are so close to satisfying me! Most of my friends are hooked on the darn Xbox nowadays 🙄 so my friends I usually make online. I add friends but what can I really do with that? It’s not like it is actually easy to just join them in a simple party and play online matches. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been with Nintendo since I was 5. But the update would be nice. I guess the only thing I can do right now is play random people. Just think though. If friends could easily join a party and strategize a team, would be a game changer. It would be the ultimate challenge. But for now I’m going to keep playing 🤝
Horrible. This is probably the worst app that I’ve ever tried to use for something useful. A lot of people say it’s bad because it’s not free anymore or something. I say it’s bad because I have tried 8 times and it still won’t log me in! I make sure that my console is on I make sure I have the right information I have tried EVERYTHING! It lets me put in my email and password it shows me my account I pick my account and then it just says the service isn’t compatible with my console or whatever. And I have NO IDEA WHY! I’ve payed it all I’ve done. It . All. At first when I got this I was excited because I could do everything I wanted for my splatoon 2. I kept trying again. And again. AND AGAIN. NOTHING WORKED! I am really upset with this so maybe just try fixing it. Or since you probably don’t care because I haven’t seen a single developer response in these reviews just make a new frekin software!
Where’s the other games?. Nintendo, I’ve liked your consoles and games from day one but the apps are kinda 5/10 for me. 2/3 aren’t even iPad formatted (a basic thing for an app developer), and this app in particular needs way more services then just 3-4 main ones! Splatoon 2 stopped around 3 years ago, and almost everyone doesn’t use the app for it. Maybe add an app for Mario Kart World where you can track your progress or something. The rebrand is cool, but dangling Zelda notes in front of our faces is cruel. Just add it on June fifth instead of having it there inoperable! I really think the app experience for Nintendo users can be improved by just basic things, so please take this into consideration.
Wish they had a built in party system like Xbox and ps4. I been playing Nintendo since I was 4 years old I love their games And System’s for the years I think the switch is amazing system for at home and on the go but I feel if they did a better job with a voice chat system I would enjoy it more also have Bluetooth support the app is ok I do like the Nintendo virtual online service I like to see snes and n64 and GameCube games come to the Nintendo online service but with that being said I been loveing all the games on it for the most part had not had any issues also like useing the pro controller looking forward to Mario maker 2 direct today anyway that’s all I going to say the app works ok but could be better
Pointless. The only reason why I originally signed up for switch online was for Smash Bros. I like fighting with online players because it’s more challenging than just playing against the game’s AI. I don’t actually want to talk to those people though and can’t really think of a reason why anybody would... Later I found the virtual console stuff for the NES and SNES I am certainly happy that those are on there, but I feel like there aren’t really very many games on there, and of the ones they have only a few are really good and nostalgic. I’m a little upset because on past consoles (like the Wii and the 3DS) you didn’t have to pay a recurring fee to play virtual console games. You only had to pay for the initial game itself and download it and then just have it forever. I personally much prefer paying $5 to $10 one time for some classic 8 bit game that I can play forever than paying $20 a year to have access to that one game plus a bunch of others that I’m never going to play!
Not bad. Could be better.. Now, this app is really good. I don't know if it’s because of compatibility issues, but whatever it is, I haven’t had any issues like crashes with this app like what others are saying. It is a great way to talk to Switch friends while in game, like the sole purpose of the app is. The problem is, it must be in a supported game. You cant call or message them to see if they are available. That’s something that irritates me because, as a Smash Ultimate player, I really like playing online with my friends, especially one in particular. I need to go through a bunch of arenas to figure out where he is, and I normally cant find anyone and give up. If you could add a messaging feature and restrict when you can call someone, I’d be happy to use this more, and you’d probably help not just me but many other users. Thank you for reading this (if you are).

Great But There could be improvement.. Animal Crossing New Horizons works great on the app along with splatoon 2. But you could try and make The scan image in the NookLink easier and make the voice chat less hard to set up ( mainly for splatoon 2)
Voice chat. I think the voice chat for ssbu is great as it lets you talk about the game and also get to know the wider Nintendo community. If u would really like to talk to players I really recommend to get this wonderful app. It is very helpful all you have to do is sign in and u can do voice chat, manage account etc(Nintendo players); u can even manage friends list. Thank you Nintendo for every thing you do for the community!!!!! Love from your fans.
Not bad. Really useful for splatoon 3 and acnh Although i hope they can set a lower Splat goal for the wondercrust Because It takes too long to obtain one piece Of gear
The app crashes after the update. Ever since the update, my app crashes every time when I try to login. Tried different account, deleted the app and reinstalled again, nothing helped. It just kept crashing over and over again.
Amazing, but I only use NookLink. It’s an amazing app, thanks Nintendo, but I only really use it for NookLink, so I have no feedback on SplatNet, but Smash Universe is kinda boring, I don’t know how it works. NookLink is amazing, and it is synced to your Switch which is helpful, it keeps track of your friends and is overall a good app! You can find me under the gamer tag: NayrusLove
Recommend. I think people hate on it too much just because of voice chat, if you want something a bit better I’d recommend discord but the app itself as actually good, order gear on splatoon, send some designs in animal crossing, watch smash videos, it’s good
Still only good for Splatoon. And even then, the Splatoon services could REALLY be better. It clearly has a lot more data on your stats (like amount of each king salmon defeated) but doesn’t give you that info, or will only give you a vague number. The monthly summaries on your weapon usages disappear once the season turns over, so good luck looking back at them if you didn’t get a screenshot. The exclusive gear is definitely the best part about the app, but god do I wish it would show what I currently have ordered when there’s a conflict. It shows what conflicting gear you already have in-game, but not in-app. Having the schedules there to see ahead of time is amazing, and the Home Screen Widgets are the only ones I use. I did use the voice call service once with a friend, which worked *surprisingly* well, but we immediately went back to using discord when it started working again. They could rebrand the entire app to be splatoon centric, and I don’t think anyone would know the difference
Splatoon 2. I can access the Smash Bros service, which I have 400 hours with, and the Animal Crossing Service, which I have only played 5 hours with, so why the hell can I not access the Splatoon 2 service which I also have 400 hours with?
I like it. First off, most of these reviews are done by under 13yr olds so they are not reliable. Secondly, I've never tried the voice chatting but I believe discord and other apps are better. However, I do love the Splatoon 2 tracker, where you can easily track your progress, battle records, order clothes, and check the stages. I would recommend to get this app.
Easy to use for acnh. I don’t know about other apps but for animal crossing new horizons it is simply a life saver! There is an island news, and in the newspaper you can check the weekly turnip prices. Instead of having to type on the small keyboard on the switch you can use your own, which is faster and easier. Plus reactions! Also if you log in once everyday you can redeem points for novelties. Great app imo.
Screen time is annoying. The Zelda notes keeps blurring, most likely due to the content and privacy restriction that thinks it’s too old for me. Please make the website thing that it uses 8+ or something so I can use it. Thank you!
I love it!. I love using NookLink as it allows me to control ACNH with my phone, like an ACNH remote. Plus, it let me use my designs from ACNL! And the Nook Points! Now I'm more motivated to play.
Used to work. This app used to work for me now after i sign in and choose which account to use, it just sits there infinitely loading. I have cleared the app cache, even deleted it many times but the same thing keeps happening every time i install. I can’t even use this anymore. Disappointed as i am a paying online account holder.
Smash World. Smash World is AWESOME, but nothing's perfect. Here's some changes to consider. - I would like to view all of the newcomers' trailers in-app, not just the most recent one. - What if there's a user posting clean content, but for some reason you don't want to see their posts? That's why I suggest a 'Block' option in the 'Report' menu. - Please add a "Mature" tag (like DeviantArt's) for users who post 18+ photos and video montages so they can be separated from everything else. - There should be a means of listening to the in-game soundtrack from the app.
Why can't I message and invite friends?. If you're gonna force us to use a mobile app to use your online service, at least spend some time and money developing it properly with some decent features like friend lists, invites, messaging etc. Rather than the half baked unfinished piece of garbage it currently is.
I LOVE IT( ˘ ³˘)♥. i love this app so much. i use it for animal crossing new horizens and it is amazing. with it you can chat to your friends via your phone and it shows up on the switch. i personally found it hard typing on a switch doing it letter by letter but this app makes it faster and easier. it also corrects your spelling lol. i recommend this app sooo much. it doesent just do animal crossing but that’s the only game i have used on this app.
Great App but it’s missing a few features. The Nintendo Online app is a good app, although, it’s missing a lot of features. Like more voice chat compatible apps (example: Fortnite, Super Kirby Clash etc) and checking different stats like on Splatoon 2’s thingy. I honestly think Discord is better because of how easy it is compared to specific games required to chat with friends. Overall it’s good, but it’s missing quite a bit of opportunity.
Really helpful. Nintendo switch online has really helped with voice chatting with friends and it’s really good, download it now
Needs iPad Landscape support. The app itself works fine for me but my only complaint is that this app only works in Portrait mode. I use the Apple Magic Keyboard for work and school so I always have my iPad in landscape mode. It’s annoying that I have to remove the keyboard so I can rotate my iPad so I don’t have to use this app sideways.
Still useless, no changes or updates.. Why does it need to be game specific voice chat? It’s understandable to have voice chat with your team if they are not on your friends list but still there is so few games enabled for it. Needs a feature to show your friends list and ability to voice chat with them or a messaging system.
I like it but.... I like ok but I think every one should be able to play it like if your under 13 you need a parents account and then kids account
Add Mario Maker 2 to the list. Now that Mario Maker 2 is out we need a feature to see what levels are made from friends and other creators Also enjoying using the splatnet for updates
Tried to get it for splatoon 2.... I went through that entire sign in system, I clicked my account and the app gave up. Tells me I need to be 13 or up to use the service. There was only one option, sign out. I wasted 5 minutes, I could have done a turf war in that time. Ok, I get the voice chat thing and how you would probably be too young to use that but you don’t need to lock the entire thing because someone just happens to be 12. I want to see my progress in splatoon 2, the weapons I use and what happened recently. Honestly, if I wanted to use voice chat I would probably use something like discord since your voice chat functionality is apparently horrible. People don’t need to be 13 to see what weapon they use the most so make that accessible. If I can’t get any access to this app, I’m not going to keep it. Im giving it a 2 star because it doesn’t take up much storage. If your under 13, this app is complete BS. If your 13 or up, then I guess this app is kinda good according to the reviews.
Find my game card 🙂. Ok so the features are good, I love it. There’s a idea I have for the app. The Find my gamecard app. Like 2 months ago, I lost my game card for splatoon 2 and it’s still lost. With find my gamecard, I could find it! The fmg app could be good
Great for Splatoon and nothing else... Come on, Nintendo. Do you read these and the other thousands of messages and comments and reviews on the web about this app? Make it more useful. Add messaging, more games, a Friends tab, perhaps a posting/fees system like Miiverse's? A Store tab where you can buy games from would be nice, and also a Library where you can see your games and how much you've played them.. Oh and the News Feed you can get on the Switch seems perfect for mobile too.. Why not add that in there?!? COME ON, Nintendo. I want to use this app. Make me want to
We need a way to contact our friends. Nintendo please let us be able to use this app to message people on our friends list. Diablo 3 has just come out and it would be handy to be able to message people to organise games. It’s not your job to police younger users from strangers on the internet, that’s what parents and the Nintendo parental control app is for. Literally everyone in the Nintendo switch adds is an adult, this console is marketed towards adults and we should be able to contact each other, like adults. I don’t care that voice chat has to be done through an app ( which is dumb FYI ) but just let us be able to message people on our friends list for goodness sake.
Would you believe Nintendo doesn’t want to use this to sell you stuff?. This app is solely for in-game comms. It doesn’t let you do any other useful things like surf the eshop or interact with your wish list, because why would you want to do that when you can make people spend their money the hard way with joy-cons and a system that groans under the strain of continuous scroll, right?
Just another review. As everyone else says. This app is only good as a splatoon companion. The app really shines as a companion app for both splatoon 2 and 3, seeing stats, schedule, gun usage, even crusty seans bike adventure where you use your hard earned turf inkage to get rewards. It’s brilliant! But aside from that the app is useless. I don’t get why there aren’t similar companions for almost every Nintendo title? Where you can see stats and other little things. But as it stands there are only 4 titles. 2 of which are almost useless (though a proper animal crossing companion would have been great, stats, milestone tracker, more exclusive items, and so so much more). There could be mario kart, super Mario wonder, the legend of Zelda breath of the wild / tears of the kingdom, super Mario odyssey. Basically any and all Nintendo titles could use a companion app in one form or other. Keeping track of stats, exclusive rewards etc. This app could have been absolutely brilliant but Nintendo seems to have not even tried. On top of all that there could have been so many other elements as just a general Nintendo switch companion. Surf the Eshop, message friends, hours played for each game, even an achievements system to get the most out of each game. This app falls far short of anything half decent. The Xbox and ps apps lack any game companion features to them but are far more competent than this. I just don’t get why Nintendo couldn’t do more with this? It’s a no brainer.
Parental controls option. I think this is a great app and use it all the time, one thing that I think it needs though is a way to request more time on your Nintendo switch/switch 2 because me being a child with parental controls on my switch always ends up with me having to go and ask my dad when he is in the middle of work or something, I guess I kind of whant the I-pad request more time feature but on this app so that I can just open my phone and request time and my dad might increase the limit, Bye from 😛Blah
Nooklink Rating. It’s a helpful app but on my daughters switch it didn’t connect, even connecting it to the switches is a challenge I’d say make it less of a complexing app
Doesn't work.. I try to use this for animal crossing, works great all apps open but i try to use chat or reactions and it doesn't. I am apparently not connected to internet when I am. My switch and iPhone are both registered to the same internet, which is my phone hotspot. I try my house wifi, guess what? It doesn't work. The app doesn't need and update and ive refreshed my phone. Still "not connected to wifi" This is BS. Useless. Fix this and i'll give a higher rating. 😐
The new version is good but one thing is missing. Allow purchase of games through the app.
Good! (I play splatoon 3). I like this app because you can get special benefits from it and see photos and battle logs from Splatoon 3. You can also see what new maps are coming up! It is very useful, and you also use it for voice chat but I do not do that. I wish you could play Table Turf matches on it though. That would be very fun. Anyways bye!
Splat service. I’ve had this app since release, and literally the only viable use I’ve found for it is as a companion app for splatoon 2. Voice chat is easily outclassed by practically any other service, simply making a phone call makes a lot more sense. Most of the services available are even more arbitrary. I have the other games, and it’s literally pointless. You may as well just turn on your switch with everything else, but when it comes to splatoon 2, the app is amazing! Check for new gear, keep up to date on what maps and modes are currently being played, and check your stats, Nintendo at its finest. The real question is: why isn’t this just a standalone splatoon app? If it wasn’t for the splat content, this would literally be the most pointless app on the App Store, and that’s really saying something.
A blunder. The fact you need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to even view game data is a redundant and annoying feature that should never have been designed in the first place. It doesn’t help that, even after you get the subscription, the actual meat of each service is very lacking (except for the Splatoon services). More games should have found some utility in this app.
Information rich and great functionality. Amazing services for splatoon 3 and every new feature added is very helpful. Being able to view detailed info on individual jobs (specials used per wave, boss appearances) for salmon run is helpful to understand how to improve. Two suggestions: - The turf war/anarchy/x battle stage and story mode wallpapers are incredible, would love to have wallpapers of salmon run stages - maybe unlocked by reaching Eggsecutive VP 100 at that particular stage. - Ability to select which image to use for album Home Screen widget using the ‘edit widget’ option when long pressing on the widget from the Home Screen
Nintendo eSlop. Shop is flooded with AI slop. No quality control. Also no virtual console anymore. Despite buying games on Wii, Wii U, 3DS. Nintendo keeps serving up the same stuff, but this time through a terrible subscription model with zero ownership. No point buying GameCube and SNES controllers as you can’t buy the games digitally and when they shut down the servers they’ll be unusable accessories.
Awful. This app hasn’t been well utilised in its whole existence. It has a poor UI. You can’t message your friends, send game invites, view game history or gameplay time, the “game services” have remained the same since its inception except the addition of splatoon 3 which is the only use for this thing. You also can’t view in game events across any games unless they’re the 4 games that are supported by the app.
Whhyyyyyy!!!!!!. Nintendo i have something to say you guys are soooo annoying you guys shouldve said at the launch of the nintendo switch there will be a online membership soon but no you guys just wanted people to buy your product and now your just telling people to give us 20$ every year great job nintendo great job please dont add online membership we all beg you guys
Good app. Great app for voice chat. Works fine runs well, however the games I join have no one in the voice channel a lot of times, so I suggest advertising it more like on Mario kart the text options maybe add let's use voice chat. That would be really helpful thanks.
I thought this was Splatoon Mobile. When I downloaded this app I thought it was an official app that would allow you to port Nintendo games onto mobile. I got my hopes up and thought that I would finally be able to play Splatoon. But I’m sure that the app works great for what it actually does, thanks.
Problem with your 12.0.3. Hello Nintendo, I recently downloaded your 12.0.3 software on switch and whenever I download or update a game it says, “error try again later when solved.” Please fix this as soon as possible.
Can I Ask Nintendo something about their console. Doesn’t Nintendo have a console that sold over 💯million units worldwide
Wasted. This app has so much wasted potential for a Nintendo switch equivalent to Xbox and PS apps. Why aren’t there more games supported like Scarlet/Violet which has a wealth of online use? Why can’t we make or share miis? Why can’t we connect our switches to look at our game libraries and remotely buy and download apps and games? Why can’t we message friends through the app as well as voice chat? This should have been a great app, but it is wasted and it needs to be fixed!
My ideas. I don’t have a Nintendo switch so I need to buy that so can this be made for people who don’t have Nintendo switches and I will still pay for the games.
Good app. I got it for splatoon2 and a so good to use I can see all the maps and what time it changes all around very good app
Ridiculous. I spent so much time setting up the Switch and that has all been wasted by setting up app, because apparently “you have to be 13 or older to link the switch with a online device” and everyone on the switch is under the age of 13, this is ridiculous, what a waste of time
Not bad but doesn't support landscape orientation on iPad. So you can use it to do text chat in Animal Crossing? Cool! Except I want to type on a physical keyboard. Oh I know, I have one of those on my iPad. Download and sign in... super awkward though... why is it locked to portrait orientation??
Average App. It’s average, however my friends and I have noticed that voice chat doesn’t work properly with wireless headphones. The sound switches between playing through my phone and playing through my headphones which is frustrating.
Not as good as it says 🥺😭😢. I went through making sure that I’m not a robot and all the other stuff and in the end it said in need a switch console SOME PEOPLE DON’T HAVE ONE!! but at least I have a account 😌🙂😉😀😎😸

Confused. I thought this app would AT LEAST tell me when a friend is online through a notification but that hasn’t happened yet I see some have been active since getting the app. Am I missing something?
Not much use if any at all. Don’t really recommend downloading.. In my opinion, the app isn’t really worth downloading. There isn’t exactly anything wrong in it, but its more a case of there’s nothing on it that really makes it useful to have. It’d be fantastic if it had more features to it, things like maybe being able to see yours &/or your friends playtime data(speaking of playtime data, they really need to deal with the problem where if you’ve purchased a new switch the playtime won’t update until you hit above the old data.) and etc. information that would be lovely to be able to see and not need to drag out my switch for. However, those things don’t exist. It’s simply just a extremely small selection of games that you can do stuff for and basically nothing else.
Best thing ever!! Love it <3. Ty miamoto
DRAGALIA LOST. We need to resume services for dragalia lost, that game was absolutely legendary but i only got to play it for like 2 months before yall shut er down
Their is a problem. I put in my information and i know its right it wont let me sign in
Nintendo online. Nintendo is very late you have nothing more than your competitors
Needs more game-specific services. I think that you should add more game-specific services because I don’t have Splatoon 2 and I was hoping to play some Mariokart 8 Deluxe On here or something else. You should definitely add more games to voice chat in. It says “services”, but there is only one service. Although I am sure this is still a work in progress and is set to be complete in 2018, there should still be a few other things to do. Anyways, I hope you keep this in mind and I hope to see some other games somewhere In this app soon!
Let me do the update. It’s not letting me play cause I need an update but when I check for it it’s not there.
Great new update!. I like the new update! It is very good, and this app is useful!!
Tehjp. Great app
ACNH Letters. Please give us the ability to write letters in Animal Crossing New Horizons from our phone!! They Switch keyboard is rlly hard to use but being able to type from my phone is so much quicker and easier.
Unacceptable. This is unacceptable for something That should be built into the console plus the fact that you have to be in the app for voice chat is ridiculous. Nintendo I love you but this is bad.
It’s good. I don’t use it much, I just use it for platinum points and I don’t have splatoon 2 :l
DO NOT DOWNLOAD. App is a waste of time and space. Only game listed is splatoon and that don’t even work. Please remove this unfinished app from the App Store until it’s done
No point unless:. Be cool if you could connect your Nintendo Switch to the app and see the photos and videos and games on the sd and internal storage. And more
This app is godly. Awesome! No errors and it is perfect for starting voice chats. I highly recommend this app.
Love it, but it needs more game options. This is such a good add on to the Nintendo switch! But rather only problem is that it needs more games! Like where is Fortnite 💀
DON’T GET. I have Nintendo Switch Online, a Nintendo Switch (OBVIOUSLY!) and I tried to use this, it said, “This service CANNOT be used with your account. I pay $20 a year OUT OF MY OWN MONEY for THIS TO NOT WORK!!! I EVEN DOD THE RECAPTCHA TRAFFIC LIGHT THING!
Bad Controls. When I was playing Nintendo with my friend, it kept on pausing the Game, so we wrote this review so you DON’T have to use Nintendo USA
The hell?!. What he hell is this app? I respect Nintendo, but this app ruins its reputation. I can even add funds from my apple account. Screw Nintendo
Unacceptable for 2017. This shouldn't be a feature for something that should be built into the console itself. Who thought this was a good idea? I love you Nintendo, but get with the times.
What’s the point?. Having to jump through this many hoops to play with friends, only to find out I have to have a group of 4 friends to play Splatfest together. If you only have one or two friends online during Splatfest, you can’t play together. That sucks. I’ve been able to play online games with one friend at a time since the 90s. Please fix this.
Voice doesn’t work. The main feature and reason to download this app is voice chat. The main feature does not work on any game that supports voice chat, defeating the whole purpose of the app.
Ok so. Love the Idea, but it should work for other apps, also try to get support from Epic and Respawn, so it could work for Fortnite and Apex.
Needs a nintendo account. I need a nintendo account to use and i have one i use my email and password it does not work.
Doesnt do anything. Cannot view games or store. Cant even access account, sends you to web page. No point to app
Not that much useful stuff on the app. Now I think the app is cool and all but since some people don’t have phones they can’t get this app, Also if voice chat was built in to the switch it would be a lot more useful although most people use discord or just there phone to talk with people. it would be so cool to see voice chat on nintendo switch. Honestly if or when they come out with a new console they should add voice chat but aside from voice chat just the app itself could use a good update.
I can't use becuz.... I can't use my Nintendo account because it says I can't use this Nintendo account and I don't know why plz help
Great App. Great app because it let’s me upload my pictures and videos
Smash Online Developers are morons. Why do I constantly have almost a second of latency during battles in the evening. Maybe learn how to properly build network services.
Update in the future?. I have been playing switch for 3-4 years and I think this app need an update in the future for more games to come and definitely need more features like groups or a chat for players to play games together hope this happens in the future soon.
Great for Splatoon 2/3. I honestly like this service, especially for Splatoon, I can get gear I want and others
Why does this exist?. This App exists so you can voice chat with the 4 supported games, I don’t think I’ve ever used this app for real once since the 6 years I’ve had my switch. - safe to delete.
Can’t login. I have typed the correct information and it will not let me in.
Simply bastardized. I've always hated using this app despite how great of a concept it is. I'm going to begin with what this app does right; The specific game services for games like Splatoon and Animal crossing are fantastically implemented. The idea that you could still do certain tasks such as purchase gear or check your stats without actually needing your console is great. The idea of using your smartphone to type instead of a controller is great. I think innovative features like these should be put in more often. Now, as for what I don't appericiate about this app, is literally everything else. This app is seldom updated and so easily forgotten. Its a selling point for your pitiful Windows XP based online service, yet nobody but the odd Splatoon fan will actually care about it. Theres literally nothing a user can do with this app aside from the already mentioned ***hyper specific*** game services, voice chat, and the ability to add friends without needing your console, which to be fair are all great features, but what makes them bad is how they're forced, and not just implemented by default. Does anybody even use your app? I've been using Discord long before the switch even came out. At least Xbox and Playstation give you the option of using a phone for voice chat, its not even a requirement. I find myself uninstalling this app as often as I am reinstalling because of that ***1*** specific use case, which for me right now is free gear in Splatoon 3. This app is essentially a waste of time and by the time Nintendo realizes theres something wrong, we'll already be in the next generation of game consoles; the Nintendo Switch will most likely be long gone and there will be no room for improvement unless proven otherwise, but I highly doubt it. Thanks for wasting my time.
This needs to be embedded in the switch.. Considering getting rid of my Nintendo for this disaster. What moron decided to have a system with no native voice chat? You killed online gameplay.
App refuses to open. I have tried everything from redownloading the app, closing and reopening, ending the app and restarting it, but every time I enter my Nintendo account and choose to link it with the phone it either freezes or gets stuck on a loading screen; that I had watched for 25 minutes straight! This app is garbage and shouldn’t even be on the App Store, Nintendo you need to get it together!
IM STRUGGLING. I can’t log my self in if I want to tho I will have to delete my account
Why use this?. Why use this voice chat app when you can use the really good Discord app. Much easier to use and nicer
Crashes when launching it. As the title says, every time I open the app, it crashes immediately
Five star review for good. I think it works very good
Why. Why make an app than just put it in the damn console like how the ps4 and Xbox have parties
No store. Let us buy games from this
Small problem. It was good (for my Splatoon 2 and 3 logs) until the update-it crashed every single time I opened the app since. Please fix <3
Why can't I play with friends?. You can only use voice chat in a private lobby. Which defeats the purpose why can I not just invite some friends to a party and play online with them on the same team? Instead we talk on discord on only get to be on the same team and coordinate half the time
Cool. Can you make a table turf app? That would be cool. Like you sign in to your Nintendo account and saves your cards so you can play on iPad, phones and stuff. You can play online with friends or offline with baby jelly or something like that. Please?
Great. Like a second discord
Add More Titles. What’s the point in having an online service when it’s geared towards only a select few games that Nintendo offers? There are dozens of games that offer in game chat using a microphone so you can actually talk strategy with your team but Nintendo doesn’t have the option to do so with the majority of their games especially cross-platform.
Evil company making crappy products. First of all, let’s mention how thier online service used to be free and great. Then all of the sudden, they started advertising how “oh hahaha now you have to pay for what you already had haha we win” Also- they make thier consoles BREAK ON PURPOSE so you are forced to buy new ones. The joycons drifting, oh just buy a new one. Same with the kickstand, it’s so cheap (quality) I could tape it and it would work better. Their games are priced so high for a game that was already existed on the wii u. And that’s not all, you still have to buy the dlc, as if you are just using a free version of a product. Can’t wait for the day they go bankrupt and all of thier brainwashed fans will realize the entire scam.
Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!
Worthless. I was willing to give it a try, but so far this app has more bugs and less functionality than Discord, which is free. Setting aside the fact that voice chat should just be on the console to begin with, this app does a poor job at connecting players through voice. Simple things like unified voice channels within matches on games like super smash brothers, or any actual system options like volume adjustments for individuals are just a few things Nintendo neglected to add to this cheap piece of junk they tacked on to their laggy servers. I'd honestly rather spend more to get at least a stable connection or for this program not to crash any time I try to turn my screen back on while it's running. If I could rate this lower, I would.
The excuses don’t work Nintendo. There is no reason this is not built into splatoon and other games. One of the main things people say to back up the app is “the switch is not powerful enough for voice chat so they put it in an app” put the switch is powerful. My proof is that on fortnite voice chat runs just fine and there is no app for that. Nintendo, just het rid of this app if you care about your fans. Also why can’t I connect my Bluetooth headphones to my switch. “Because they would have to make a whole new model of the switch that has Bluetooth” You might be saying. But no, the controllers connect with Bluetooth it’s just that they restricted anything except for controllers from connecting which is stupid. You guys better fix these issues
Disappointing Nintendo. I'm really disappointed in your greediness and that you really think that they service is gonna work. I wish you couldn't of done this, you gave all your competition, your pride, your path to a bright future, and your comeback from the WII. Nintendo, I'm gonna say this once. Change your system and make it better, we know you're capable of improving and you're not doing it at all. And the quality of it, I don't care if I can get a discount on annual payment, even a cheap price dosen't feel worth it for something so poorly made and produced, but to be shared to all systems without second thought. You've just made something as bad as the virtual boy. to Nintendo Smash just came out, if smash starts to fail, we aren't gonna be suprised, and if that does happen, maybe next time you'll listen to your consumers and not to those stacks of money.
I LOVE THE APP one request for splatoon 4 though. As I said, I love the app. It is a good way to be able to get stuff that you’re not able to in the games that you can play in the app I play a lot more Splatoon smash Bros and animal crossing so that’s not really the reason why I got the app. I mainly got it for the Splatoon stuff. but I know will be coming out next year or sometime later so I have one question please add facial hair. I know it’s kind of weird for teenagers, but like it would be really cool to have that. I think we could do so much more creativity with the facial hair in Splatoon four. THANKS
What is this?. Seems to be a 1-trick pony (voice-chat) that is so user-unfriendly that it fails succeed at its 1-trick - so it’s a 0-trick pony I guess? It would honestly be faster and easier to just talk to someone on speaker-phone then use this app - any other 3rd-party voice chat app you’ve heard of would be significantly better and easier to use compared to this app. I can’t even see my Switch friends list using this app - maybe it’s possible, but if so, I haven’t figured out how yet, and that should be easy. It’s so pointless that I actually can’t believe a major company developed this app and published it, much less marketed it. I love Nintendo’s IP, but for the life of me, I can’t believe this is what launched with such an otherwise-successful console. It sorely needs a complete redesign to be something that is somewhat functional or purposeful.
Nook link is great for ACNH. I only use this app for the Animal Crossing Nook Link feature. I love being able to use the text option for multiplayer. It’s much easier than typing in game. I mainly use the app for the catalogue. I can quickly look and see if I have an item catalogued so I don’t have to buy it at Nook’s. I can also sort by color so I know what items I have if I want to decorate in a certain color scheme. You can also earn points and redeem cute exclusive items. It’s a small selection but I love having my favorites in game (raccoon wall clock, leaf pochette, and toilet paper).
Love! But…. This is SO helpful and I’m so glad you can use this but there’s one thing I would request to make this app just- excellent✨ For Animal Crossing New Horizons I think you should be able to buy more things with the Nook Points like changing the selection of items every month or at least adding new items for the next year or so. I love the items you can currently buy with Nook Points but it would make the app so much more exciting if in ACNH there were a few more things to purchase. Thank you! -Kahni
Read me. The whole idea, everything is just nonsense. I paid over 300$ for the switch plus splatoon 2 (one of my fav games) now I can’t play it unless I pay an extra 20$. I paid enough the switch the game, now the horrible online aspects. NES I had enough, nothing new, online play still horrible, and voice chat, just why? This is FAR LESS FUN if you know what I mean. The main idea for this is, money, money, money, money. Legit sold my Nintendo switch, the piece of garbage is worthless to me. The one thing that made Nintendo different from, other gaming consoles was that online play was completely free, now we have to pay because “Nintendo” gotten greedy. If you want to play splatoon, play on Wii U, forget switch online, forget splatoon 2. See ya’ll on Splatoon (the original) this whole scheme is horrible, and Nintendo is just screwing us over.
Splatoon 2 Inkstorm. Battle royale Mode on Splatoon will be great. Call It InkStorm So it is a mode unlocked when at level 15. You drop from the squid sisters bus and you are on squid form and falling and you can navigate yourself so don’t forget. And if you die you will have your teammate get you back by 5 Ink Tanks. If you are lucky you will have a Sheldon box Drop Simbol on the map. And it will be OP. Please I Am BEGGING you!!! Make Sheldon cases give you armor and a gun and secondary then you are ready need more armor? Get a GIANT CRATE and it will have a legendary armor patch in there. Make sure there are MEDS:ink syringe, ink kit, ink ball, ink chug jug, ink minis, Ammunition/Ammo. Don’t forget that the ink wall do us 1 Tick Damage Per Second so when the hp hits 0 you splat. Make the ink wall a circle. And the ink wall has clouds inside it so it rains in it when you’re in it. Good Luck Nintendo. Make the ink wall blue. Nobody should be colored blue. Soooo Good Luck Doing This Nintendo. And this app be like 🚔.
Good app, more game support. I recently downloaded this app and I really like it. I mostly use it for Animal Crossing and Splatoon 2, but occasionally watch Smash Bros replays. This is a great concept, but it would be better if it supported more than a few games for the voice chat feature. This would make the app a lot better. Just imagine booting up Pokemon Violet or Super Mario Wonder and talking to your friends through this app instead of over a phone call or FaceTime. I hope for the next console this app will get better. Other than the lack of voice chat support it’s great. Keep up the great work Nintendo!
Works just as intended. This app is really useful and a good idea, it also has its perks like in Splatoon 2 you can get some new gear. I like the layout of the app and how it’s a nice “polished” tracker for your games. Personally I think that using a phone for voice chat is super convenient and some people who write reviews on how they wish that we could just plug in a headset to the switch, they need to realize that they would have to update all their games to add that feature and that would be very difficult.
Completely and utterly useless. This app is USELESS!!! I’ve used this app for 10 seconds and the functions are useless. Voice chat can be done somewhere else like Discord. It showed me 3 games on the home page that I do not even have! We all Nintendo to being a money hog but the only good thing about this app was that the app was free. You need to pay to do the voice chat anyways. Also online used to be free. Yup you saw that right... You have to pay $20 a year!!! (which is not affordable for some people) If Nintendo Switch Online didn’t exist I wouldn’t have to write this review! Yeah, I’m talking to you NINTENDO! Just make an app for just the Nintendo Switch, and (maybe) include the Nintendo Switch Online Service as an offer not a requirement to use the app.
I love it!. I play animal crossing! It’s very hard to type on nintendo.I found this app and logged into my account and then saw animal crossing! I connected my phone to my nook phone on animal crossing! So now i can type and do reactions!! I also loved the island newspaper it also helps me to find what day the turnips was selling to time travel to get turnips from daisy mae! I can also see my passport and my villagers and it shows their birthdays! This app is very helpful! I would recommend! Also nintendo needs to make more animal crossing updates and they need to add more items to nintendo shop for points!
Why. The Nintendo Switch should have voice chat for every online game period, if parents don’t like it than but something in the settings preventing kids from talking to strangers and only friends. Speaking about speaking to friends, make a better way to talk to them on the switch console itself, something like a party system like PSN or Xbox Live. Another thing, they should’ve made this app like a portable eShop. Let me Explain, so you go on your phone and you can browse the eShop on your phone on your account, you could also buy games and when you come back to your switch, BAM, it’s ready to download. This is what I wanted from this app and from what I wanted Nintendo to do with voice chat and the friend system but Nintendo and online is like in another world.
What’s wrong with in game chat?. The fact that this app exists for “in game chat” showcases a big failure by Nintendo. To chat with my friend in game I have to turn off the sound on my console and use a third party app to make a phone call to someone, and you can only join or start a chat if you are in a lobby, so timing is critical. Trying to balance your console volume with your phone is a nightmare. Forget using headphones or ear buds. If you are going to download this app for chat purposes just save yourself the time and call the person you are going to chat with. The call has better functionality and won’t drop you. The Nintendo app will drop you if you leave a lobby, even if you rejoin it. So it is an extremely limited feature that really is just a poorer version of what you would do with your phone anyway.
Not paying. NSO should be free. It was free for every single nintendo up to the switch. Nintendo is getting VERY greedy. Years ago, I got a 2ds. It cost $149, and I spent $29 on Super Mario 3d Land. Now if you want to get a Nintendo Switch, you have to pay $349 for the console, $59 for a game, and $29 more just to play online, a function that was PREVIOUSLY FREE. Because of that, I have to fight max raids in Pokemon Shield (which is way too expensive, $89 for the full game plus DLC) by myself with NPCs, so I never. get to beat 5-Star raids unless I'm with a friend, which I'm obviously not during the COVID-19 pandemic. There's also ACNH, but the problems don't relate to NSO (only one island per switch and a terrible same console multiplayer experience). I'm very disappointed in Nintendo, I used to like the company. The only reason I buy Nintendo products is because of classic games and Pokemon games.
Awesome app but can’t voice chat with friends. The switch online app is really great! You get to join your friends, view your stats, but I really don’t get to use voice chat with them. So I hade an idea of giving the Nintendo switch, chat! You get to text your friends anytime you want. I was thinking to message my friends to go on voice chat and if they wanted to play a game that includes voice chat. Please make chat in ver 10.1.0 please. And add the “new message” tag on the top left corner of the Nintendo switch and the profile who sent the message to know which friend messages others :)
App isn't helpful. This isn't much of a system companion app compared to alike apps made by other brands. All you can really do is see which friends are on and the voice char system. I changed my Smash Bros. Ultimate spirit team but the usefulness stops there. You can't add to/manage your friends list. You can't browse your own nor friends achievements or any other info. I believe the store is a separate app for some reason. Other gaming system companion apps like XBox includes everything I listed and a lot more, all in one single app that is still very user friendly. I would like to see a lot of additions or changes made to this app in the future.
Good addition to switch online, but is still lacking. I appreciate the addition to the Nintendo switch online membership. It’s nice being able to see what my friends are doing while I’m away from my console. However it’s significantly lacking in some areas. There is limited features in the app making it boring and a waste of phone storage. For instance why can I only see what my friends are doing instead of also being able to see their entire profile? Why can’t I see membership perks in the app instead of going to the shortcut on the console homepage? In order for it to be a functional app I need to be able to: 1) see membership perks and purchase profile icons in the app instead of only on the console homepage 2) be able to change profile icon in the app 3) there needs to be a “party” feature in the app where I can chat and call friends and is not limited to select games 4) view friends entire profile in app Please consider these features
Smash world. What about making an option for users to delete, rename, or change music on custom stages that they posted? Because it’s kind of annoying when you post a stage only to realize there is a small mistake, then after editing it and posting it again, it keeps both versions. Also why can I see the stage IDs for my own stages only on the smash ultimate online mode but not on the app? Because I just want to copy and share with my friend but I can’t do that when I have to get my Nintendo switch first, open smash ultimate, check the internet connection, go to online, shared content, go to the creator tab, and search for the custom stage.
MUST HAVE app for Nintendo Switch users. I just started using this app for Splatoon 2 usage. And I realized how much you can really do with it, like anywhere from checking the map schedules to seeing your own in depth stats of your performance in the game. Also not to mention the wide selection of features that are in the app, are far more than what I expected, and also kinda overwhelmed me a bit. Other than that, I highly recommend this app to anyone that plays Splatoon 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, or Smash Ultimate.
Why do you have to be 13+ to use Nintendo Switch Online 😡😭. Ok so it’s literally stupid that you have to be 13+ plus to use this app it’s just ridiculous like I play Animal Crossing New Horizons and I want to be able to do QR codes but I have to be 13+ older like why? It should be 10+ for online like there’s probably million of kids out there wanting to use it but no there not 13+ and they’ll just have to waist a few more years to be 13+ and over to use Nintendo switch online like just make were it can be 10+ I feel like I just wasted 60$ on Animal Crossing New Horizons like when they game came out I was so pumped it to make clothes and scan QR codes but no you guys made were you have to be 13+ plus to use Nintendo switch online! Thank you and goodbye!
AMAZING. ok so why are all the reviews so bad?! THIS APP IS AMAZING! Everyone is complaining oh there is not enough games. But like u can use the voice thing for some games too like Mario cart! So it has more games u can use it with! Ok another reason people are saying bad reviews is because u have to pay for Nintendo online! Ok yeah u do but like it is worth it!! I only downloaded it for the animal crossing feature but I love the Mario cart voice chat!! This app should not have a 2.8 star rating. The app has no bugs as I have seen! So you should totally download this app! I love it! ❤️😁
Very Unbecoming. Let me start by saying I have purchased every Nintendo home entertainment system since inception. I also don’t write many reviews. However, I am very disappointed that Nintendo is showing they’re not a consumer first company. The fact that you have to pay for save backups and that they’re making you pay for online play, a service that came with the system is a joke. Also, I have many players in my home, and to save all account data, I must pay for the family service which is 35 bucks. I understand other consoles charge more. However, I would be glad to pay $60 a year if the service was as good. No dedicated servers for big N titles such as Splatoon and no save data. How could do this be?!?!?!!!!! Very disappointed Nintendo.
We are in a Pandemic have some MERCY. I haven’t paid for this yet because of the reviews HOWEVER if I want to be able to have special outfit designs in MY animal crossing game that I paid basically 60 dollars for I have to pay 20 dollars a YEAR. Same thing if I want to visit other people’s islands! This is REDICULOUS this shouldn’t be paid content! This is over charging already and I have a switch LITE. Maaaaybe this would be fair if we WEREN’T in a pandemic but the harsh reality is we are! Most apps that I have downloaded have been COURTEOUS and have done sales or even given things for free! Hell even my SERVICE PROVIDER gave me free unlimited data for our time of need! So why can’t you give a discount at LEAST during the pandemic? You are a multimillion dollar company. Get off your high horse.
It could be better:). Ok we all know about nooklink well it could use some improvements k so I wanna be able to reset it for my new island fern grove but idk if u can and for voice chat were not able to close the app pls Nintendo in u see this add these updates anyway on this app why aren’t we able to see how long we have played these games, also please add another acnh update we need mini games and I wanna make coffee at the roost in the museum ok back to improvements, Nintendo pls respond to this telling me how to reset my thing please everyone’s reviews are true but mine is from the heart and I desire more updates please and thank you Nintendo
THIS IS THE BEST ONLINE GAME. Seriously please stop all of these to be waiting please just stop this is one of the best on my games I have probably have a soul I have never so something like this you can literally play with friends and you can play games with chili in the switch I don’t know what you guys are talking about but I think this is one of the best creations that Nintendo switch has ever made OK just be honest you like seriously like this is pretty cool for an iPad like that much stuff to literally put into this iPad which is really hard to put online game OK hope editors choice says this is a great game!! OK people well in that case BYE.
Counter-intuitive. I don’t understand why Nintendo can’t implement an online service like everyone else. Have the party system on the actual console and allow it to be used even when not in a game. Add some trophies and leveling to your Nintendo account. Implement a chatting feature, this would be amazing since it has a touch screen. This is just some simple basic stuff it should have. No need to over complicate things by having a whole separate app just for basic features to be able to function. Nintendo seems to be great at doing that and not listening to fans. For once I would like to see them actually innovate and develop a reliable os that has all the basic features that people expect in 2021.
GᖇEᗩT, ᗷᑌT ᗩ ᖴEᗯ ᔕᑌGGEᔕTIOᑎᔕ. Overall, I think this is a great idea, but it could be better. I suggest adding a mobile store, like how Splatoon has “SplatNet” which is a feature that allows you to place orders on gear for splatoon from your mobile device. I really think that adding a NookStop store for animal crossing new horizons would be popular because so many people are currently playing the game, and this feature on the app would be bound to get lots of more downloads. I cannot speak for the other programs, as the only games I own which are on the app are Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing. Thanks for reading my review, and I hope you consider my ideas! -GOᒪᗪEᑎᖇETᖇᐯᖇ
Awful Idea Nintendo. This app is an awful idea. I don’t necessarily mind an app for chat, but you have 5 games on the chat service??? What am I supposed to do about all of the other 500 games that are multiplayer? I can’t even message people to get on Discord or Skype if I want to play and chat with them. I have to know them in real life to chat with them, and even then it is a hassle. There needs to be a messaging system, like Xbox or any other piece of technology as well. At least give us some way to write people messages. I am thoroughly disappointed and I would like a chat/party system. Xbox even allows people in a party to play different games and still chat. Also, when you have headphones on chatting with your friends (I use noise canceling headphones) you can’t hear your game. It really throws me off.
Great, but…. This app is great for tracking stats from your favorite Nintendo games. I mainly use it for Splatoon 3, and I will tell you why I didn’t give it 5 stars. Sometimes, it takes a LONG time to update certain stats. For example, one time I had 42 badges, but the app said I had 35, and it finally updated about a week later. Also, it would be very useful if there was an option to look at your Tableturf battle stats. Please add this, and please make it so it updates more efficiently. Otherwise, this is a great app and I use it every day!
You’re protecting 5 year olds at the expense on 75% of your customer base.. I don’t understand how you can listen to the cry’s of thousands of customers who are drowning for the ability to communicate with other people, and choose to throw the lifebuoy to kids who were gifted this console. The ultimate reality of this flawed system is that individual are exchanging snapchat and discord information upon first contact in games such as Overwatch and Fortnite, which turns out to be way more dangerous than just inviting someone to a “party” or sending a message in which you have records to. My buddies refuses to buy Switch because of this issue ALONE. I love the console, but after years of neglect I am considering exchanging for PS4.
Not good, but not bad. The specialty thing for some games is great. It is just only on 2 games. Online is okay. Smash can be really rough sometimes, but Splatoon is fine. The nes games are great, but please make a way that we can get super mario world. Whether it be through the eshop or the online thing just make it available. This could be a really good service just needs a lot of work, but hey we have punch out and Kirby along with the first 4 super Mario bros games. What else could we need from nes (so start on snes games or make them available. Also why does everyone complain about voice chat being on a phone. It works fine, but it drains battery fast.
Why are people hating?. Ok. So personally I use this app around once a week. I only use it for voice chat and spirits. I look at the critical reviews and most of them are saying “they only have three games” or “There’s nothing to do” I’m pretty sure they said that in the description. I’m also sure they said that in the launch trailer and the trailer for switch online. There are better things to complain about. All in all. 10/10 app. Gets the job done, Quality over Quantity. (Name one game that was made by Nintendo that you think should have a voice chat feature)
Nintendo Switch needs upgrades. This is my review on the console and not the game since I am not subscribed with Nintendo Switch Online™️ I know this is not a review for the app but for the console but thanks for reading. Overall the console is really well but it needs some upgrades. I would like to be able to install other apps and streaming services such as the following; Roblox, HBO Max and Disney+. The console did not give me any problems except the console not found problem. I have been trying to fix that for 24 hours but I have fixed it but when I try to play Just Dance 2022 it says "console not found, must be detached to play." Meanwhile it was detached but it wouldn't let me play unless it was connected to the Switch. If Nintendo Switch Online was free i'd happily get it so I could play Animal Crossing New Horisons in peace. I know this is not a review for the app but for the console but thanks for reading.
Please read Nintendo.. No denying it’s a very good app, works exactly as advertised my only grievance is that children under 13 cannot use it in my living room and son tastic all his friends to play games online and it’s rather annoying especially for me because he hast to take my phone I just feel like you could lower it or perhaps even add a personal way for parents to allow it like through an email or something like that either way very good app. I myself play animal crossing from time to time and nooklink is very helpful. That is all, thanks for reading.
Flawed, But Functional. Most of the reviews of this app are either 5 stars, saying they love this app and it’s perfect, or 1 star, saying that it’s dumb that it’s not on the console itself and that it’s $20. However, this app does what it’s supposed to do. It isn’t a hub for all online activities, it’s a companion to the Switch. And for all of the issues people have with desyncs, lag, and disconnects, a lot of these issues spout from a poor internet connection. And yes, this app should have a wider range of games it works with, but unlike Splatoon 2 there isn’t enough content besides play history (which could be accessed in the game itself) to put into the app. Voice chat for games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is flawed, and I would recommend a regular phone or Skype call.
Here’s some feedback. Look, Nintendo, You are honestly great. Like your games are amazing but the main problem is this online thing in general. I got Animal Crossing New Horizons recently and so did my cousin. I wanted him to visit my island so I made my Nintendo account and signed up and everything and I thought he could just fly on over, but NO. Apparently you have to get online in order to play with people? That’s honestly very dumb, NOT TO MENTION YOU HAVE TO PAY TO GET ONLINE LIKE YOU ARE A GOOD MONEY EARNING COMPANY DON’T YOU HAVE ENOUGH!? Also some people can’t make custom designs that they like so now they have to pay just so they can where cute clothes and feel happy!? That’s not ok! By the way, I’m just putting my opinion out there if you like spending your money so be it. This is just what I think.
This is the greatest app ever made in the entire history of humankind. If you need an app you absolutely have to get this app it can do everything and it does all things better than any app that could ever be created. it is phenomenal this app was obviously created by super intelligent people from Nintendo university . So helpful I can always check what friends doing online gaming and look inside their houses not spying just connecting it feels good to be so in touch with friends even dwhen they can not. see. me. Overall 10 out of 4 thank you
More features. The app itself has some ideas and thats it, if the voice chat works fine and friends were fine then id be good using it more often. Personally id like to access the eshop for switch and 3DS on the app, maybe see what games my friends have and how long they’ve played it, i just want more reasons to actually use the app. Maybe when smash comes out it can have an amiibo feature? Like display which amiibos you have and grey out the ones that you don't. As it is i can’t recommend the app to most people unless they specifically ask about voice chat. Going back to the amiibo thing maybe it could actually display all amiibos, and what features they have for different games. That would be nice.
This app serves no purpose. The app is literally just voice chat, it is no different from just voice calling your friends. The only difference is the audio actually cuts out every single time you switch a game mode for a few seconds, so it is actually worse than calling your friends on the phone. I was under the impression that it would be an experience similar to the online on the PS4 where you can actually hear the game audio too but no this is not the case. You cannot use gamer headphones to talk to your friends bc it will cancel out the audio on your tv/switch. If you have earbuds, you have to keep one earbud our so you can hear your friends and hear the game. It’s pretty much on par with the horrible online service I paid Nintendo $20 for. Absolutely pointless
Really disappointing. When me and my family subscribed to Nintendo switch online, I was really excited to use the voice chat app instead of FaceTimeing with my friends. When I set up the voice chat app I had to enter my password and everything and then it just brought me to a screen where it said I couldn’t do voice chat! I mean, this is INSANELY INSANE! Why can’t Nintendo just put a headphone jack into the pro controller or something where you could just plug in any kind of headset and then chat with your friends that way? It’s a lot less hassle and it’s easier to work with. I would really like it if Nintendo chose to do that and it would make me definitely not angry about this anymore.
Voice chat issues. When playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, you switch to a different group of players for the battle than the actual arena. But when that switch happens, it disconnects from voice chat for a second. Normally you can just stay out of the app and do other things while voice chatting, but when it switches it just kicks you out of the app. Hopefully this is fixed soon, because it’s the most annoying thing about this app. Otherwise, it’s super useful, especially with Animal Crossing, since it would be a pain to type everything with the controller. But that’s sort of the only thing I like about this app, I never use Smash world and I’ve never used that Splatoon thing.
Infinite Loading After Launch. This application is very very useful to communicate properly with Voice Chatting and Keyboard abilities. Frankly that’s the only use it provides prominently. Recently with the last update, there is a nasty common bug that messed with the app. altogether. After login into our Nintendo Accounts, we are treated with a infinite loading screen. There isn’t a fix for this at all, so by speculation, it has to be a big affiliated with the failure to communicate to there servers where the bridge is completely disconnected. I’m not sure if it’s a ban feature, I believe it isn’t. Never received any notification of improper gameplay. Nintendo, please check this very common and annoying bug! It’s a fantastic creative application, just wish I and many of us could use it!
Well, it needs some help. I was really confused when I first started my Nintendo Switch: there was no online communication features. Then I found the app. The app is... not perfect. Sure it has some great first-party game features, like those of Splatoon 2 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. And the voice chat isn’t bad. But there’s some empty gaps that were left untouched. Firstly, why not put all of these great features from the app onto the Switch itself, but keep the features on the app as well? Just look at other mainstream consoles, and they have some fantastic apps to go with already great features from their consoles. Secondly, there needs to be an easier way to chat with friends. I friended people for a reason! Lastly, the app needs a better layout. The logo takes up half the screen, but if more features are added, I need organization. In the end, I like this app, it’s decent, but it needs some serious help when you compare it to the likes of other apps.
A great work around. This app is better than what most people say, there is no headphone jack in the joycons so Nintendo made an ENTIRE app just for voice chat!!! People stop complaining!! This app has its uses. And the “bad online” y’all complain about, complain about it on redit, because this app has nothing to do with that! Most of the bad reviews are on the switch online, not the app itself. I applause Nintendo for making a app for voice chat and working around the issue!! Also Nintendo if you are reading this. Make actually VR happen! Like FNAF VR, superhot VR. The sales would be very good!
Love the game, but it could be better. Honestly, I love this app! It’s really cool how you can voice chat with online friends on the Nintendo switch! I just wish there was another feature on the app where you can text them to see if they want to join you in private battle (splatoon 2) or something else, instead of just waiting and waiting for someone to join your battle. It would be easier to text them just to get their attention. Also, if your online friends are away from their switch, you can at least text them to see how they’re doing. Thanks for reading this my review.
Great App. This app is a great app for use with the Nintendo Switch! I haven’t used voice chat much but when I have is runs well. And SplatNet is really cool and useful. Can’t wait ‘till the SSBU releases and its features come! A lot of people think this app should be on the Switch itself but the Switch isn’t powerful enough (it is the first hybrid console), don’t get me wrong it is powerful enough to run voice chat but it wouldn’t run as smooth and you would run the risk of a crash in the middle of a game. The price is very reasonable, $20, Xbox is $60. So I think the price is pretty fair.
It would be great but... I can see the potential in this and it could have been a great idea but it was executed horribly. For starters how am I supposed to set up a chat room and have my friends actually come to it if I can’t msg them in game “hey join my chat room on app” also I really wish you could join random chat rooms. I can see how this is aiming towards people who play switch with irl friends but sadly none of mine have a switch. I like making friends in games that I can relate to that like the same games and I really wish the switch had that! I’m not one for voice chatting really either so I really wish it was just normal messages just so I could ask one of my friends if they wanted to play a game with me! The only thing I like from this app is SplatNet and even that isn’t that great unfortunately
This is a Problem. I would give this app 5 stars but here are my complaints! 1. I hate how you have to get all this stuff just to voice chat with your friends on a game! 2. I HATE having to use the Nintendo Switch online just to do certain stuff on Animal Crossing I mean It’s ok to have the membership for playing online with people but it is not ok not to be able to not send cards or presents to your friends with the membership ITS JUST STUPID!!! Nintendo I hope you read this I have a Nintendo for a long time and I don’t want to leave but if these problems don’t get addressed maybe I might leave the fandom please fix these things I beg your pardon!
