Stop giving blanket responses. It’s disrespectful to your users. You clearly have issues with your app, and you’re not addressing any of them here, or anywhere. Please respond as human beings. It keeps loosing contact with HomeKit. The only way to reconnect is to reset the whole system and re-pair every unit one by one, twice. Once for TRÅDFRI and once for HomeKit. With 20 units it’s not fun the twentieth time around. If power fails, get ready to reset and start reconnecting, naming lamps and making groups. As a stand-alone app, it’s just not usable as a system with more than one room. Is there any plans on making anything close to HomeKit features natively? Like an on/off switch for leaving the house? Or scenes for all rooms at once? There is new hardware coming out, but no innovation with the app since it was released. What the heck is going on over there? Has IKEA left the software to bare minimum maintenance? Are there any plans at all?

Great purchase. When I first bought these bulbs it took me forever just for the bulbs to show up, but I noticed after the bulbs were connected, they automatically begin a software update. Once the update is finished for the remote and the bulbs, they pair easily and show up in HomeKit right away. I love these bulbs and I also recommend the Tradfri Disco app to get some cool effects.

Stopped working with latest update. I had the app working perfectly with my Fyrtur blinds for several months. It was linked to Alexa as well. After the last update of this app my Alexa routine stopped working that closed my blinds at sunset. The blinds disappeared from Alexa completely. They still show in the Home Smart app but are unresponsive. I have reinstalled the app and can not get it to work at all. When trying to resync with Alexa it just goes to an endless loop and never connects. Luckily the remote still works so I can control the blinds that way. Please fix this or I have wasted over $500 on this system. I pressed the “ask for help” button and called the 800 number and got a general help line and the poor girl had no idea what I was talking about. You need a dedicated number for IT problems. Recap: App does not control blinds (but they show up) Alexa will not connect at all and previous connection disappeared. No way to call for actual help. Wasted $500+ on this setup.

Significant connectivity issues. Have had the system for little less than a year, and I have to say does anyone internal actually work on improving g the software? I would say roughly 90% of the time I’ve owned it the gateway loses connection to the light sources and I have to do a manual reset on the back of the gateway. Very recently, the app has been updated such that it forces you to connect to a remote control. However, my remote control battery died and upon replacing the app STILL CANNOT find the remote somehow. Performing a reset of the remote control as instructed by the app yielded absolutely nothing. Guys, just pay some one to fix the software. The product is totally useless until you fix these mounting issues.

Not working with Apple home. Now the device isn’t seeing my bulbs at all. Tried removing and it won’t add back. This is terrible. What is happening? Updates should not break functionality. I bought the ikea product because it advertises compatibility with Apple home. Recent update broke all connectivity, making automation useless. Still can use the ikea app but it doesn’t have the functionality I want

Timers Regression. Setup can be a bit flaky but makes sense once you understand the IKEA way. However, sometime in October 2020 the timer function in this app stopped changing the color/temp for all of my bulbs. They still come on, brighten, and go off as expected on schedule but they’re now stuck on whatever the most recent manual change to cool white, warm white, or warm glow. Calling the Home Smart support line under the "Help” option within the app lead me to a polite conversation with someone who knew less about the products than I did. When she realized that she wouldn’t be able to help me she tried to transfer me to the nearest store location—also unfamiliar with the app or products. This is a technical issue that requires technical support, not outsourced customer service. Edit: Another update, another regression. Still unable to find actual tech support

Way better security & privacy than Hue but still lights turn back on after power outage. Strengths: IKEA ’s app and the SECURITY model it uses (to SECUREly communicate with the Tradfri hub with COAP TLS) while RESPECTing your data privacy (by NOT spying on you and NOT reporting your time-stamped usage data to its servers) deserves a LOT of praise and it’s very well engineered ‘under-the-hood’. This is all in complete contrast to how the Hue app and bridge setup works, and how it’s security model is STILL “trivial” to defeat with a MITM attack, since it still uses a self-signed security certificate for https. It also sends a ton of data back to its home servers on a regular basis, and this is bad. The biggest weakness for IKEA’s app and Tradfri setup is that there’s still no ability to configure the Tradfri lights to NOT automatically get turned back on in the middle of the night after a power outage (which Hue app does allow user to configure to prevent) PLEASE implement this feature in your app and Tradfri lights’ firmware!

Save your time and your money. Non existent customer support, seriously. Even the IKEA people at the store agree that support is non existent. That’s a problem. Constantly have to reconnect your devices. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don’t. Sometimes only some devices work, the next day the devices that worked the day before don’t and the ones that didn’t work now work. And then sometimes the devices are grayed out and you have to reset the remote and the hub and reinstall everything. Extremely frustrating. If only zero starts was possible.

FEEDBACK. The app interface is outdated. If you have 10 devices that you want to control with this app you will need to scroll. Only devices fit per screen. Please this is just bad interface design. Creating a schedule is not that smart. There is no way in an easy way to set multiple daily schedules for each device. For example I have a fan and I want it to turn on 10 times per day. You will need to create 10 independent schedules, and if you have other devices that you want to schedule well that becomes a nightmare. It’s much easier to do it on a manual timer, so there is nothing smart about it. If you have small flat with few devices you will be fine, but if you want to do more complex automations the look for other solutions.

Unable to pair gateway with remotes. I'm having trouble setting up the Trådfri Gateway kit and the app is currently unusable for me. Everything worked for a couple days after my initial purchase and setup. However, sometime in the past few days the system became unresponsive and subsequent attempts to factory reset the gateway and reconfigure the network have not been successful. Specifically, when following the instructions to pair a remote with the gateway the app never displays the dialog that the new device has been found nor does the network LED on the gateway flash 4 times as described. The remotes and bulbs function as expected standalone, without using the gateway and app. Customer support and troubleshooting have been nearly non-existent. In-app (and App Store) support directs me to the general Ikea customer support page. The Trådfri support page FAQ does not describe this scenario and offers no resolution. Phone support did not have knowledge about this product and directed me to the retail store. The co-workers at the retail store were understanding but mentioned that the product is new and they don't have much experience with it and were unable to solve the issue and offered an exchange. I'm submitting this review in the hopes that *someone* with a technical background associated with the product and/or app can contact me to help troubleshoot.

Crashes every time I hit timer icon. I use the Alexa routines to control all my Ikea connected devices and from there, they are 100% reliable. Recently, my Fyrtur blinds have been closing an hour early for no apparent reason (certainly not how they're set-up in Alexa Routines). I tried checking the Ikea Home Smart app, to see if there was a timer mis-set there, but the app crashes immediately upon touching the timer icon. So, I have no idea why the blinds have developed a mind of their own, because the app is unstable. Is this a known bug???

Works well until latest update. Latest update adds more products but now the app asks you what you want to install every couple of times you open it and there is no exit option. Only thing you can do is shut down the app. Seems like sloppy but testing. It’s really come a long way in the last year too bad they still need to do some work.

Alright for price, room for improvement. Had Wink System before. Changed to Ikea since I like Ikea and items are affordable. After using for 6 months: - major update/upgrade of app would be nice. - lights randomly turn on or off outside scheduled times. After manually correcting, schedule is picked up again. - when changing start time of lights turning on (due to change sunset times), time that is set to turn off lights automatically defaults to 1 hour later. Please fix that it remains as programmed. - include option to turn on/off lights based on sunset/sunrise time. Give option e.g. “30 min before sunset”. Wink did offer that option. In general: Wink app offers more options, runs more stable, works as programmed after power outage.

app thinks nothing is set up. Stuck in a mode where I get asked what I want to add even though I’ve already added 2 blinds. Can’t get past it to actually control the blinds. Deleted the app and reinstalled and it’s still doing the same thing. Kind of ridiculous. UPDATE Finally the app was able to remember that we had set up blinds with it but sadly, we had already reset the blinds and got them working on my wife’s phone. Now we’re trying to pair new blinds and the remote will not pair to the app. We looked on the Ikea website and found NO SUPPORT PAGE FOR THE BLINDS. This is ridiculous. We see a page for the Gateway, the light bulbs, the lamp/speakers, the speakers and THAT’S IT. What is wrong with you guys? The software is buggy and you guys don’t even have a support/troubleshooting page?!?

Easy to use, but….. App is easy to use. And to set up. It was a little buggy after the app upgrade. Needed to, First, completely uninstall the app, then unplug the hub, then plug the hub after 15 seconds, then reinstall the app. That seemed to do it after many attempts of troubleshooting.

Blind people are customers too so why can’t IKEA make this app accessible for them?. All this company needs to do is follow Apple‘s guidelines when building a app and use their native tools instead of some clunky third-party shortcut to building an app with a non-Apple framework. The result of this app spore development is that high as a blind user can’t adjust my blinds can’t easily add them or see their status. Buttons are on labeled so I have no idea what buttons do and content overlays other content so as I move around the screen I’m hearing options that aren’t even visible on the screen because they’ve been hidden but the screen reader has not been told they been hidden

Ikea Home Smart app 😍. What can you say about something that is in any possible way from A-Z the closest thing to be exactly like me, myself and I? I know it seems pointless having to mention the word... but just in case if there really is anyone out there wandering🤔, yes not really fully informed about the facts of life... it's PERFECT👌

Nice. Overall a nice set of bulbs and motion sensors. I recently began a quest to automate my house to save electricity. Compared to Hue bulbs, the ikea alternatives are much cheaper and of similar high quality. The bulbs lose connection at times but 9/10 times they just work. I wish the developers of the app all the best and thank them for working hard to bring cheap automation to consumers.

Lots of issues. I’m not sure why the average rating for this app is so high. My experience, so far, has been sub par. I bought the IKEA smart blinds and used the app to connect with the gateway. I’ve had to completely remove the blinds twice now because they can’t be found or only one blind will be controlled through timers. Speaking of timers, the interface makes no sense for blinds. Why do I have to choose a time range for opening or closing instead of just a time? Also, I can’t connect the blinds to HomeKit. Maybe the functionality doesn’t yet exist? Pairing could also be a lot simpler if you ask me. So the app (for blinds at least) has potential but it’s not there yet.

Lose settings, A lot of opportunites. Still not a reliable system Gateway will NOT connect. Makes the whole system useless. Need a Fix!!!!! Major concept flaw is that timer toggle between on/off.... and that the light settings is lost from time to time, unknown when/what trigger the setting to reset. Some pain to set it up.... very limited information what it does or does not do .... The app can adjust the brightness and temperature of the lights. You can set some timers and you can use the app to turn on or off any bulbs. Neither can set like a sleep timer (tap on the small bulb icon} Feels overall very basic and dated A major flaw is the toggle switch on the remote... while you set timer on individual bulb the remote will turn on the other bulbs and turn off the bulb that was on by timer. It should be that the toggle should be able to get all bulb to the same state aka all on or all off ( now you have unpower the bulbs to get them in sync) We need version 3 now A m

Solid Start. The app is very good at walking the user through the setup with the lights/remotes. The user defined moods are excellent ways to make your room look great! They are easy to set up and quick to use. However there is still work to be done with the timer features and improving grouping functionality. Widgets are not present which are quite important for a smart home app. Connecting to the hub when opening the app takes a few seconds, I expect it to be snappier. I also feel constricted by just 3 color temperatures, 5 would be very welcome. These are all things that I imagine IKEA is aware of, I am looking forward to the future versions of the app!!

Terrible. My review used to be 5 stars, until I moved. New house, everything worked but the bulbs were in different rooms. I removed he bulbs from the app, and wanted to pair them with a different steering wheel. I couldn’t pair them, and read about the light switch toggle 6 time trick to reset bulbs. Guess what? You can’t reset them. Look on the internet, tons of complaints. You can reset and pair the white bulbs, not the 3 tone bulbs. I took the bulbs back to ikea, and they did replace them. Hopefully they fix the issue before I move again. Don’t use these bulbs in a kids room where kids are likely to flick the light switch, this resetting the bulb and I can’t re-pair. Lame.

Terrible experience. Everything was fine in the beginning, but after few weeks I saw one bulb “no responding” however it controls fine via remote switch. And this issue growing and after about 6 months, only half of bulbs can be controlled via phone. Another big problem, you need remote switch for add bulbs to the app, that’s awfully. I completely disappointed about Ikea smart home solution and not recommend it to anyone. For now I looking for another Gateway for replacing this garbage.

Shameful setup hassles. Great IKEA smartblinds, but awful software! It took several days to get the hub to communicate with my router and my 3 ikea blinds linked to the hub. Followed the confusing directions to the T many times over and still success was hit and miss with SmartHome. After weeks of trying, I am still unangezogne get voice commands working on Google Nest and Alexa device. With Siri, commands to open and close blinds are occasionally ignored or performed erratically. IKEA must do better with their software and customers should hold off buying the blinds until the many bugs have been ironed out, else you my find yourself tearing your hair out. The only positive comment Ican offer is that the price of the blinds was reasonable.

A bit of a pain to setup, but works great after that. It takes a while to setup and get everything to pair correctly (3-4 tries per item), but once everything is connected, it works well. Would like to see it add HomeKit compatibility, but that's not a deal-breaker for me. The setup does require a different controller for each set of lights you connect if you want to control them separately (one for living room, one for bedroom, etc). A previous reviewer mentioned that they couldn't pair their lights The to the gateway. I ran into this problem at first, but figured out that you have to connect the remote to the gateway first, before you can connect the lights. The setup wizard skipped that when I first tried to set it up but the Help section sent me in the right direction. I also had to reset the gateway before I could get the remote to successfully pair. Just keep trying. Hope this helps!

Buggy - Incomplete. It’s almost mind boggling the issues that both the app/software and hardware seems to have for IKEA based devices. I can’t even express the odd navigation behavior when killing the app and restarting it and immediately receiving a new device onboarding flow for setting up the blinds. Not being notified of updates while things are being linked and setup only to have things stall. This was a poor experience and poorly designed UX. The app is buggy and seems to have many state issues, and the hardware seems week in quality/signal/communication. Software should have been able to solve common IKEA issues, but it would seem their instructions made it into their app UX.

App refuses to recognize second blinds. I bought 2 blinds and it only seems to be BARELY successful at syncing 1. The second one refuses to get recognized by the app sometimes the repeater doesn’t get recognized, the blinds always pair perfectly to the physical remote that never is an issue. I’ve tried resetting the gateway, resetting the remotes, resetting the repeaters. Resetting literally every single piece and running through the setup over and over again NEVER actually seeing it pair completely a single time. I spent 500 dollars on this cus it’s the cheapest way to make blinds work with Siri HomeKit but this ikea app is garbage please fix it i don’t want to have to return these blinds. Really disappointed with this whine experience.

Response. In response to the one I recieved- What exactly is the issue? Like I stated, every time there is an update, something looses connection; bulbs, remotes, sensors, stops communicating with HomeKit... Sometimes a restart fixes it, sometimes I need to re-pair the device. Maybe take more time with the updates to be sure they won't break whats already working. "Hej! We are sorry to read this. Updates should give you the feeling of improvement, but we understand that e.g. necessary gateway restarts after an update, things can happen. With the recent update we have introduced a hot fix for ongoing connectivity problems between app and gateway. While this has brought some relief to users, we understand that there is still some way to go. Would you like to share what exactly is not working anymore? /IKEA Home smart"

Wow, talk about terrible. I didn’t know there could actually be software written this bad but this is horrible. First I haven’t been able to connect to my gateway for months. Tried resetting it without any luck. Next the interface is crap. The timer settings are stupid. You set one and it interferes with another. How about a simple linear timeline for each day and I can take blocks to select what I want the lights doing at each time. It’s dumb to set a wake up time but if I want the light to go back off as he sun comes up, oops that is an interference. Stupid. I’ve had this now since at least last August/ September and would happily return it all if I could. I was hoping they would be about 50 to 75% of the Philips but they are barely 1%. Absolutely worst automated lighting solution on the market. Cheap Chinese crap software is actually written far better than this.

Works well after you get it working. Overall it works well once you get it working. It may take a few times to get the lamps to connect. Once connected they are rock stable. The various remote connect without any issues like one expects. The white driver modules that have two light settings works well with its dumb light switch puck. Now the big issue is the smart gray driver modules. I have three of them and can not get a single one to connect. I see that other people also have the same issues with the smart driver. I hope that get it resolved soon. Online support does not mention troubleshooting any driver issues.

Major QA issues. Major Instability like few apps I have used.. Blinds and remote will not stay synced. They work when they feel like it. The app constantly loses connectivity and you have to constantly tell it that the blinds are there and in which group they belong. Sometimes it will stay for minutes other times for a few hours max, eventually when you go to open / close your blinds the app says oops nothing in that group and you have to start the process all over again. This is a daily occurrence. Also the hub doesn’t work on WiFi for internet. Only to communicate with the ikea devices. Very 1990s so get ready to move your router along with the hub or grab a long Ethernet cable.

Issues with “Scenes”. Hi- I have tried to get support via your tech support but they are clueless on how to get help with your app. So I am writing here in hopes to get some help. I have some scenes setup to play music on sonos speakers. I have discovered a bug. My first question is there a max number of speakers a Sean can support? One of my scenes will work for one day and then it won’t. If I delete and then setup again it works. I have tried different music stations to see if that is it but that’s not it. I’m not sure if it’s an issue with the shortcut button but my long press scene will not work after one day of being setup. I can go in the sonos app and it’s pairing the correct speakers together and adding the correct music but it won’t play. Can someone help me look into this?

Doesn't work, literally at all-RUN!!!!!!!!. I've been trying for two days and I can't get a single thing connected to the hub. I've followed all of the instructions, reset each component multiple times and nothing works. You can’t even get into the app to check on the gateway firmware until you’ve connected a remote... which may be impossible until a firmware update has completed. Day three, got a dimmer connected and it managed to update the dimmer overnight. Before AND now after, still unable to pair a light to said remote. Unable to get both a remote and a dimmer connected to the gateway at the same time.

Bizarre experience!. There’s no indication how this app works with the TRÅDFRI gateway. No where prior to the setup I got an indication that I need to have a dimmer/remote control/motion sensor/wireless switch to proceed further in the app. I am stuck on the choose your device screen because no one told me I need one of those. This screen should at least have an option to skip or access the menu, which I can’t. From the gateway literature, I just thought I need the app or Alexa to make it work with the TRÅDFRI lights. Do I have to call ikea or go to the store again to figure this out?

Easy and Cheap. If you are looking for a way to do smart lights on the cheap, the IKEA solution is pretty amazing. It took me a little bit to figure out how to set it all up, but compared to actual IKEA furniture it was pretty much a breeze! The IKEA Smart Home app and lineup of products does pretty much all the stuff you’d expect, although I’d like to see a few things added: (1) I would love a sleep timer that will gradually dim or just shut off the lights after you activate it. Currently, you can only set up the app to turn the lights on/off at fixed times. (2) More full RBG bulbs! IKEA smart bulbs come in two types: adjustable white tones (think warm vs blue light) and fully adjustable color bulbs. The distinction isn’t always clear on the website or products. I would love some full color adjustable bulbs for some of the smaller sizes such as the GU10. I would also love a color adjustable LED smart strip!!! (3) Customizable UI for App: the IKEA App is very clean, but I would like if you could custom size aspects like the limit on the number of scenes you can put on your main dashboard. (4) iOS widget: would love to be able to control my lights right off the Home Screen vs. going into the app. Any or some of these improvements would elevate this to a 5 star product for me. If you’re on the fence about this product, I highly recommend you go for it!

Meh. It started out good.. a pain to set up i use multiple bulbs, 2 for outside (garage) 1 in foyer, 1 in front room, 6 in chandelier, 2 in master, and 3 bulbs on the lanai ceiling fan...often the bulbs will need to be re-synced and just stop coming on and off and just stay on👀😳 I don’t think my gateway can handle it all... I like the convenience of using my smartphone to turn on and off but I have all lights on a timer i don’t know a lot of money to get so-so results. Fix this IKEA! Thanks 🙏🏽

Update after Ikea response. After resetting the Tradfri to factory settings and starting over after calls with IKEA I finally got the app to work and connect with HomeKit. I had to reset tradfri twice and revert it to factory settings and reconnect 4 bulbs and remote both times. Frustrating experience and calls to ikea customer service were just telling me the same thing or to bring it back to ikea. ______________________ Latest update quit working with HomeKit. Tried resetting and won’t connect. After most recent update lights won’t even connect to Tradfri Ikea app at all. Do not buy and I do not recommend. Waste of money.

Room for improvement. These lights are clearly marketed as a more affordable alternative to Phillips Hue. I’ve tried both and Hue has shortcomings of its own, not least of which is the lack of cooler tones and fewer lumens. I’m also ambivalent about both apps. I think Hue has some advantages but the widget and room schemes seem awkward. TRÅDFRI has this as well, but it feels incrementally better. The obvious areas for improvement for TRÅDFRI are HomeKit compatibility and more choices when selecting color temperatures. Once those features are added in, this will be a formidable product. I assume that since ikea is not a tech company first, they are not developing their tech products as quickly. It would be refreshing if their team was more receptive and proactive about putting these changes into action.

Great product at an affordable price. The TRÅDFRI system is very good. The lights look nice, it is easy to set up, and the app is intuitively set up. The only thing that is missing for me to give it 5 stars is support for Google Home. Hope that is coming soon. Also, a smart tip for everyone - let the bulbs and remotes update before you write a review. A lot of the comments here are due to you running outdated software.

Needs work. I have to give one star because the app keeps crashing, takes forever for the app to start up, crashes, and forgets my gateway often. The app has a nice layout, but I suggest that a dimming/brightness slider with the three “mood” circle buttons right next to it for that specific bulb. From the current layout, I see how you want to separate the different groups of lights, but with 3 groups, you then have to scroll around to find a certain light. Use tabs, or the horizontal page switching things that are common in iOS apps, for easy switching between rooms or groups. Also, please add a widget for iOS so that I can turn off/on a light from the notification screen with a button.

Could be better. Yes, setting up the app for your smart devices is a bit of a pain. The app is fairly simple, almost too simple, to use. It’s a little misleading to have my remote controls for my blinds, as well as the repeater, to show up in devices. Since they are listed, it would be nice if their firmware would eventually support Thread. I would rate the app higher if it was cross platform friendly. I set up everything up on my iPhone. I went to use the app on my iPad, only to find that I have to set up my iPad independently. Why can’t I just log in to my account, like every other smart home product I have. Thankfully the blinds show up in my HomeKit app.

Okay, but future is dim. The app has been okay. Always clunky, a little hard to navigate for advanced settings, but basics were accessible and it was all excusable for the price of their hardware. But part of investing in a smart home ecosystem, whether IKEA or Phillips, or anyone else, is that you expect that as they add new hardware, you can pair it with your existing setup and manage it all under one app. Unfortunately IKEA decided to start from scratch and release a new app with their new smart hub, and didn’t include support for their old hardware. This makes it harder to have trust in the longevity of one’s investment into IKEAs smart home ecosystem if they sunset support for their old hardware immediately upon release of their new hardware.

Unreliable and just terrible. Extremely buggy to setup, you have to pair each driver about 15 times and start over if the app can’t find one driver through the gateway. One day it says it can find my under cabinet kitchen lighting drivers; another day they are unreachable. When they finally show up, dimming only affects two of my lights and the other is unresponsive. Remote is always “updating” and later failing. This is a terrible system so far and seem to be far from built in a solid way. I stuck a Lutron switch on the lights in my kitchen when I gave up, of course that switch work flawlessly with HomeKit and their app. Saying that... it would be nice to be able to dim my kitchen and get my moneys worth. Support is non existent, and noone picks up the phone at IKEA. I’m certainly not standing 3 hrs in line for the store to only be confronted with a clueless teenager who can’t help either. IKEA, it is time to get it together, the storm on social media is real (your customer really had enough now).

Bulb turning on randomly. I have 3 bulbs and a remote. I travel frequently so I’ve enjoyed having bulbs throughout my home on various timers for well over a year now without issue. Lately one bulb has been turning itself on at random times. I turn it off with the remote or app and it turns back on a short while later. I’ve completely deleted the on off schedule for that specific bulb and it continues to turn itself on. I am not having any issues with the other bulbs and timer schedules in my home.

Super Klunky. IKEA is known for their ability to simplify unnecessary complexity. Unfortunately, in this regard, IKEA Home Smart is, so far, a step in the wrong direction. The major weakness in the IKEA home automation ecosystem is their super-klunky app. I started with a simple remote switch/outlet combo, which actually worked great as a standalone system. I was then able to register the remote switch with the central hub through the app. Not only was I then still not able to do any automation on the device, but now the switch had stopped working with the outlet! I tried to resync the switch with the outlet using their recommended procedure, but that didn't work either, so I will probably have to swap out another new remote switch/outlet until I can figure out what's going on with the first one. I also still have no clue how to set on/off times for the one device I've managed to register so far. I probably should have stayed within the Apple ecosystem, but I wanted to give IKEA a try, but so far no love. Deeply disappointing.

Basically functional, but should be better. I can set basic schedules and control my lights — as long as I’m on the same WiFi Network. It’s a little irksome how unreliable it is with 3rd party integrations like Alexa (mine just stopped working a week ago and none of the support solutions have worked yet). It would be really nice if remote support was built in to the app (even Kasa does this relatively well for their components), but as of now we’re at the mercy of half-baked integrations you just can’t rely on. Which is a shame, because I like IKEA, and I really wanted this to work much better than it does right now.

Completely stopped working.. Worked great for a couple months with little issues. At some point, none of the bulbs were recognized on my phone (they still turn on manually but I can’t control them). Tried to reset my WiFi, no change. Decided to just disconnect and reconnect everything (gateway, remote, bulbs). Now nothing will connect/pair. Pressing the button for pairing on the remote does absolutely nothing. The gateway can’t be found by the app, despite everything being connected properly. I’ve already tried every hard reset option. I have no idea what to do at this point. Troubleshoot on the Ikea website is nonexistent. Every question concerning a problem is answered with setup instructions (e.g. Bulb not connecting? Connect using the remote!) I have never in my life been this frustrated with any piece of technology. It just does. not. work.

Never going back. Love this app and the Ike’s line of smart products. I’ve slowly transitioned most light bulbs to Ikea and use this app to control them. My only request is for an update to the app with dark mode option. Otherwise I have only positive things to say about the app and products!

IKEA should exit smart devices business. Having had FYRTUR blinds for a couple years working just fine, the recent-ish firmware update made them problematic to use and requiring intervention every week. The problem: the blinds never go up all the way as they used to. So when they come down every night, they come down a little longer day by day and eventually sit on the window sill. Then they start warping and bunching up. This necessitates battery removal and reboot of each blind. It’s not been an issue but now IKEA broke it with no way to fix.

Works but Very buggy. It is ridiculous homeSmart does not have Cloud Integration for remote access after several years on market or a means to provide port forwarding to be able to control Trådfri hub from app. Sonos integration is not polished and crashes a lot hence my only view is to use the Sonos app but the effort to create a Sonos integration is nice overall as it helps bring down the inflated price of Sonos. Would love a Connect device for existing stereo that did not cost $350 a pop. Lights since they are on Zigbee Light Standard are better to integrate with SmartThings/HomeAssistant or if lucky integrate with Hue app. HomeSmart needs a lot work from Ikeas software development team in my opinion to compete competitively with Hue. Also random issues with not able to connect to Hub from app although directly connected on same network. Many areas for improvement.

Please add user profiles. I don’t know about other smart product brands if they offer it. But having “admin” and “unprivileged” profiles fixes the issue in shared households where users can only control their designated devices. This stops a user from accidentally controlling devices of other users(personal space). Of course there should “public” devices as well like living area lights/speakers.

Don’t bother. The products and app are not worth the savings

It’d be so much better if the ap wasn’t so buggy. I am constantly being told that I’m not connected to wifi and can’t connect to the gateway, which is rubbish. I end up turning on and off the lights using the Apple home app instead, but you really can’t get as much control over the brightness or colour of the lights with the home app so it’s annoying to say the least. I do love that I can remotely control the lights, I just wish the application was more stable and had more functionality. Could be great, but it’s just okay.

Barely works. Lights work for a day or so until they need to be re set up again.

Motorised blinds. A bit fiddly at first but but works well once you have sorted out all the pairing

Works if you’re not in a hurry. Providing you aren’t in a hurry, she’s all good. If you need to just turn lights on or off quickly, you’ll likely get frustrated with the lovely orange “unable to connect” error. You’ll get very familiar with it. And now that I’ve updated to the latest version of iPhone app, the app just freezes and shuts down anyway. No lights for you.

Light connects to switch. Switch controls light but doesn’t appear in the app..... Useless

Timers are broken. Time pickers in timers are broken. You move the minute and the hour changes! Trying to set the time with broken UI like this is like solving a Rubik’s cube. This timers now are useless. I guess you get what you paid for (half the price of Philips Hue)

Update update update update. I know things have to be updated, but almost every time I open this app there’s an update. It also nags you all the time. I just need an app to control my lights! Can I turn off the update alert? The last update changed the app icon from yellow to white! Is this to increase obscurity? So people who have used the app for years cannot find it anymore? I guess that’s one way to not see an update alert

Horrible UX. Absolutely horrible user experience setting up blinds. You gotta select add new lights to add their blinds and other things. Come on IKEA, you guys make quality stuff, invest in the app and you’ll have a killer product. Plus side, once a blind has been setup, you don’t have to access the app any more :-)

Well I tried .. got there eventually. UPDATE: use a modem from the early 2000’s in order to support the latest TRÅDFRI devices .. go figure :/ Plugged the dam thing in, flicked open app - can’t find gateway. Locate IP from router, enter manual IP, scan back of gateway and then ... no devices found.. Have tried factory reset. Might try reversing over it with car...

Buggy time picker makes alarms useless. The time picker used to select the time for light and dark timers simpler does not work. Two things go wrong: 1. You select the hour (eg. 8), and it then clicks over to 9 automatically 2. When you set the timer to start at 6am, it actually starts at 5am.

Timers keep changing! Highly irritating. So very annoying.

Timers are dreadful to set. The app has a bug with scheduling. The number dials do not stop on the time you which to select. The hour dial keeps rotating to other numbers other than the time I want. Every change to hours, minutes and AM/PM causes the hour dial to rotate spontaneously. When I eventually manage to select the time I want and save the setting, the lights actually turn on and go off 1 hour before the time I’ve selected. I set the lights to turn in at 5.30pm, they actually came on at 4.30pm. Initially I thought the timers were working at all and I was about to return all the TRÅDFRI products, however I read a previous review experiencing the same troubles. Please can this issue be fixed.

No language setting?. Changed my phone and was reinstalling my apps when I was overseas. It got installed in Italian. Have not been able to change it to ever since. What a pathetic software design! If you can’t handle your pants, let a third party do that for you.

Wasn’t able to connect tradfri light to iPad. Gah

Terrible!. If you have more than a couple of light control, you’ll find the technology and design terrible. 1. The IKEA PLATTBOJ CR2032 lithium battery pack has the shortest battery life I’ve used. It last at most a week. Though it is not child-safe and thus easier to take out. It’s cheap if your time cost doesn’t count. 2. Each TRÅDFRI dimmer needs a CR2032 button battery, and how much time you prepared to spend on replacing the battery? It’s about 5 minutes per replacement job. 3. Unreliable dimmer control. It’s always a total disarray whenever an iOS upgrade or IKEA SMART Home app update. Hardware side, you can only turn it clockwise, otherwise the dimmer cap will come off. 4. It doesn’t work well with Google Assistant and Google Home app. It’s also have compatibility issue with Apple Home app, especially when you have multiple brands in the same home, e.g. Philips Hue. 5. About 50% of TRÅDFRI smart lightbulbs I purchased are too short to make a contact with the socket. 6. The apps, work too slow to control the lights. You also have to control them one at a time only.

Still in development. The app and the system are promising, but there are still bugs to be worked out. For example, setting a timer works, but you then can’t remove timers ever again “Oops: Timers are still loading. Please try again in a few seconds.” Well, I’ve tried after days and still have the same problem. Then devices vanish, some turn up again as a new name, others become uncontrollable even though they are next to functioning ones. These are all basic functions and need to be worked out.

Not a bad start ... but still issues. The app has a nice layout and is pretty usable. Combined with the good prices for the hardware it is amazing. It’s just not perfect yet. App crashes. The hub needs an Ethernet connection (cable!) and the pairing requires to be a few cm of the bulbs. Some lights can’t be discovered every now and then (they work with the remote but not the app). My Symfonisk remote is still useless as it does not find any of my speakers (they are fine in the Sonos app but not in the Smart Home App). So still lots of issues ... but I can see this getting better over time.

Come on IKEA, you can do better. Gateway should support cross subnet communication and should be running PoE, it feels like the dark ages having to use a power cable and Ethernet. Pairing should be easier - you need a doctorate in aeronautical engineering to pair this thing 🤬🤬🤬

Hardly ever works. Bought this for integration with HomeKit. Honestly, don’t bother! The app is clunky, the sensor barely works and the shortcut switches work about 3% of the time. Sending it all back! *Update* Against my better judgement, I decided to try to expand the system with a repeater thinking maybe I didn’t have enough coverage. Whilst the sensor seems to work now, neither shortcut switch does. I also bought the Sonos remote. It worked for three hours and now just says “Oops. That didn’t work”. Support is non-existent: I gave up waiting on the phone after no answer after 30 mins. Tried chatting online and they have no idea about these products. Completely and utterly hopeless and an absolute waste of my time. I sincerely hope people read this review before purchasing.

Please fix the timers. Setting on-off timers for bulbs is the most important feature of the app - but it is almost impossible.

Latest update is fantastic. I originally bought the tradfri set as it is one of the only security friendly smart lighting options. It uses only a local network connection for control, nothing external, which gets rid of a lot of risk with these sorts of devices. It’s reasonably easy to set up. The app was a little lacking up until now, as I originally wanted to use smart lighting for sleep hygiene, specifically controlling light temperature to aid sleep. Now that we have timers that include colour and brightness settings I can simulate sunset type colours to gradually darken through the evening. Yay! Thanks developers! My only wish is that we could get a full colour spectrum option rather than being limited to a group of presets - I’m not sure if this is a software or hardware limitation but it would be really neat. Eg. at the moment there are only 2 shades of green, and you can’t even get onto green cycling through on the remote.

Gateway doesn’t connect. I’ve followed all the steps and yet Still whenever I get to the part where I scan the QR code on the back it will then say it can’t find my gateway. I’ve tried resetting and tweaking everything. It doesn’t work. Back to Ikea for a refund unfortunately.

Timers are buggy. The timer seems to have a one hour off problem. It goes off one hour early (maybe a daylight savings issue) also, it went off on Saturday when it wasn’t programmed to. Everything else is great, please fix timers!

Works, most of the time. Cheaper than most smart lights, but suffers from reliability problems. Have to re-start the controllers every month or so. Cannot rely on it.

Continuous problems. Super flaky. I’ve had to setup the gateway 3 times in past 4 months.

Always crashing. Unfortunately this App crashes on -50% of opening. Great product let down by App.

Can be tricky to setup. Brilliant once écrit-il is up and running, with order light ambiances and control by light bulb. But fish what a pain it was to sync the bulb, switch and hub. Had to try and reset probably 10 times.

Works but needs polish. It’s a bit clunky the UI need multi controls and more granular controls for scenes. Looking forward to more functions ie. easy to configure multi steering device control better google home integrations. Thanks.

No settings icon. I have installed the app exactly per instructions and it doesn’t show a settings icon. It doesn’t look like the preview screens.

Frustrating. It’s very frustrating. Lights work for a while and then become unavailable and are ghosted out so they can’t be controlled by the app. It seems impossible to get them recognised by the system again.

1.12.1 update screwed me over. The latest update 1.12.1 has made all my lights stop working. Everything worked perfectly for the last year, now nothing works and my lights won’t pair with the remote. Very unhappy. Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both app and lights and nothing works. This is awful and I’m sitting in the dark.

Trafaldi gateway crashes every 14 days. I have to reset the gateway every 2 weeks to get it to work. 1 month on since the dev team responded to my original complaint and I’m still experiencing the same issues with having to reset the gateway every 2 or so weeks. The app is up to date.

Decent but issues. Won’t connect to amazon which is infuriating.

Need colour shift. I’d like a button that could change the colour slowly from one to the other. And what about adding some more colours?

Setting up timers is very buggy. Most features of this app have worked well except for setting up timers. When I use the feature to set a light to come on at 5pm, the wheel keeps scrolling backwards or forwards so I’m unable to select the desired time for the light to turn on and off. It takes quite a lot of fiddling around to try and get the desired timings set. When I eventually set the timer for the two lights to come on at 5pm, they turned on at 4pm instead. The main reason we bought the smart light system was for the timers. Please come up with a fix for this bug. It’s extremely frustrating and could make the difference between a substandard product that could be great - all because the app has failed to deliver.

Frustrating. Really frustrating the App keeps losing groups on a regular basis and you have to create a new one again and again. Also disappointing you can’t use the app remotely. Simple things but this app fails on both.

Keeps losing connection to controls. Would be great but the controls and lights keep dropping off. Had to buy a new control and have repaired the others numerous times. No short way of doing it through the app…back to square one ever time.

Adequate Quality hardware and Adequate Quality App.. The hardware is a bit fiddly to set up; holding buttons for the exact number of milliseconds within the exact range of the device. The software is adequate for setting up the ecosystem of devices. Once set up and configured with HomeKit; Wow! HomeKit integration elevates the product from a mediocre budget IoT ecosystem to a premium product. Responsiveness in the iOS Home.app is much faster and the UX is improved tenfold.

The app disconnects to gateway. The app disconnects to gateway and have to the l the link process all over.

Remote and app. Remote control is always ‘updating’ but fails. Cannot use the app

Finally this app is stable and working well. We have been using this system for a while, and it’s now working quite well. They seem to have sorted out the earlier issues. We use the ikea app to control our lights and blinds and to occasionally set up some timers. We appreciate that it only works with the app while your on your home wifi. It reduces the hacking potential. I gather not everyone sees it as a positive feature, but it also means that you can control your system even if your internet is down as it’s not using the cloud to control it, you only need your wifi to be operational.

Everything Wiped… WTH. I avoid using this app because it’s junk. I use the Home app from Apple to do all the work I need. Worked fine until today when Ikea decided to wipe every single device (42 of them) and made me start over all the way back to the hub. Who has 6 hours to reprogram everything from scratch???? Time to throw this entire line of garbage out.

More events. I wish that I could program more than one event per day.

connecting problem. technology is wonderful, but the soft should get better with connecting many lights, it is easy have some bugs, then I have to reset again, then again, again

Very picky and strange. Everything makes these Ikea automation devices need resetting. If power. Network. Etc. goes off 6 times off and on and 4 presses on the back and ya put your left foot in and shake it all about. What if the hokee pokee is what it is all about???

Very frustrating. The app is, OK, there’s a lot of aspects to it that just aren’t really well thought out, a lot of “oops, let’s shim that in” instead of customizing the interface to the specific device. The system as a whole is unbelievably frustrating, can rarely sync / pair stuff correctly in one go.

“Geographic restriction” with Alexa. This used to work fine with Alexa but after a reset it claims there’s a geographic restriction on the connection. Seriously, why is there a geographic restriction on light bulbs. Avoid this and buy bulbs that are not so restricted.

Finicky, and no out-of-home support?. The Trådfri system is a bit odd in how it works - rather than have the bridge talk to the bulbs, it seems it talks to the physical remotes which then talk to the bulbs. It took several tries to get things set up but eventually it worked. However, as soon as I leave my house, I can no longer use the app at all, as for whatever reason, the app doesn’t offer any remote access to my bridge. Fortunately, the HomeKit connection does work, but I see no reason why ikea hasn’t implemented out-of-home access to the bridge, the way my other smart home wifi devices have.

Probably the worst smart home system in the market.. Ikea bulbs are cheap thats the only reason I bought them. Their motion sensor won’t show in HomeKit and most of the time they don’t work if you use them in night mode. I’m switching to aqara the moment they are available in Canada.

Nb de stores limités. J’ai 3 stores dans la salle à manger et 4 dans mon salon. L’application ne permet pas de mettre plus de 2 équipements par pièce. Y-a-t’il une solution ?

Frustrating. Constant connection issues. Worked great until recent update. No longer connects or recognizes Alexa which is beyond frustrating since I now have 15 bulbs that no longer work.

Stops working every week. Home smart not smart

Rarely ever works. Bought over a year ago, always needs to be updated and seldom functions properly.

The app works pretty good. I’d you have a link to show me just take me to the website don’t ask me to install yet another app on my phone. I don’t need the ikea store app to read an article.

It’s alright.. The app doesn’t enjoy connecting to the actual lights sometimes and it’s annoying, also I really wish there was a strobe setting on the coloured lights as it’s kind of boring to have all of those colours available on the light but you can’t use it for anything fun.

Unreliable garbage. For the past five years, I’ve wished and wished that tradfri would work as advertised. No more, I’m giving up and switching to Philips Hue. Good riddance, IKEA.

Crashes when I select the lights. Have had tradfri for less than a week and the lights stopped responding. Neither remote nor app did anything. Opened the app and the lights are unreachable even though they're less than 20 feet from the hub. When I tried to reach the lights through settings the app would instantly close when I selected the lights. After turning them off and on again multiple times they're now reachable again. Hopefully for good, but who knows. And the app doesn't crash now that they're reachable. Update. Now the bulbs are lighting up in different colors in the morning. They're both correctly colored in the morning setting.

Version 1.15 broke Speakers connectivity. Two iPhone devices with IKEA Smart Home app. One iPhone says Cannot Connect to Speakers after updating the app to 1.15. The other works fine, still on previous version. Then it gets the prompt to update and now it says Cannot Connect to Speakers too.

App can’t pair with anything if it’s life depended on it. My lights and remote are working fine, but the app pairing is utter garbage. I can get the switch paired to the gateway and to lights but it never registers on the app. Waste of my time and money. I’ve tried everything on support pages as well. If there’s no fix soon I’m returning and switching to Phillips Hue

Fantastic at what it supports, which sadly is very little.. Over six months now since I purchased the scene button that does not work as the app still does not support it.

Horrible app. Spend a fortune on the automatic blinds and the app makes them useless. Slow, laggy, disconnects daily, get stuck and pushes blinds past their breaking point flipping them inside out. Wanted it to wake up to sunlight. Bought the blinds and bridge and the blinds never open in the morning. Says can’t connect. Terrible. With the money Ikea makes, pay a dev team the right money to make a decent app.

Hope you’re patient!!!. This kinda works and kinda doesnt. Einstein said the defintion of stupdity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Well, let me tell you one thing, that is the only way to pair something to this device. 11th time’s the charm… then it joins a group you didnt mean it to be added to and well…. Good luck…

No response in HomeKit happens randomly for no reason. The tradfri concept is nice but the actual devices are very flaky. All my other lights haven’t failed once (from Sylvania) and my smart dimmer hasn’t failed once either from but the Ikea bulbs go MIA every now and then as a group for no reason. I then have to reset them individually. Add them back to the app using the irksome process with the remote until the next time. It’s very frustrating

New update (June 30, 2021) messed up my home settings. This new update has lost connect to two of my devices, and thinks that my IKEA multi colour light bulb is a different brand. This seems to happen every couple of updates. Ready to ditch it completely!

Never very stable, no longer working on iOS17. I love the Ikea system and it usually works ok with Homekit. Been stable for a couple of years actually. But lately I started having issues again with some lights disappearing from Hoekit. But that seemed to resolve itself. But now, with iOS 17, my bridge simply stopped being available and I can no longer add lights at all to a remote. Related to iOS 17? Not sure, but getting support is not easy with Ikea, so I'm writing here as they seem to respond sometimes.

Not so smart home. Why does an app to remotely manage a smart home disable itself once you leave your home. This used to work just fine. What was the reason to break this functionality. I am removing all traddfri devices and replacing them with something that is not so stupid.

Latest app update (edit). Thanks for fast response, app is working wonderfully!!!! All my speakers are found! Remotes are working great. Old response below Just updated the app to the latest, and for some reason none of my Sonos speakers are coming up, making my ikea volume dial thingy useless. Otherwise the app is reliable.

ADAPTIVE LIGHTING. Great! App works great with Tradfri lights! Please please please add apples adaptive lighting feature within HomeKit!!!! It will make it so much more worth it!

They forgot about this app. Couldn’t connect to Gateway using iOS 16 for days. Suddenly started working after I used an iPad that had iOS 15 on. Then iOS 16 connected. Unplugged reset the router multiple times before returning to the iPad. This thing is trash for iOS 16.

Recent updates ruined the product. “Rise and Shine” turns the lamp on, but doesn’t change the colour of the light. Choosing a scene in the app doesn’t activate the one I chose, but instead activates some other random scene. At this point, I’m considering switching to Philips Hue because I can’t trust IKEA to release a functional app.

Have to reset everything after no power. I’ve lost power in my unit for a few hours and now the entire home smart network is not reachable. :/ I started resetting the bulbs and all, but they won’t reconnect, even after I removed them and tried to add back. Why do I have to go through this? Why wouldn’t you think of your consumers first and create a nice user experience with your products? I’ve lost so much time and no luck still. Will be returning what I can return at this point. What a waste of my time :/

Suggestion to make it better. Hi I would make the system be able to work even if the network is down. This mean a little memory to store the last configuration. Tk, Js

Save your money. Many connection issues. Frustrating to set up. You get what you pay for I suppose.

Can't connect to Gateway since latest update. My app won't connect to the gateway since the most recent update - is this a known issue? I have an older system and bridge but it worked perfectly until now.

Can’t control light away from home. What is the point of wifi gateway if can’t control the light away from home via internet?

Constantly looses HomeKit connection. The whole setup worked fine for a few months but since late December the bulbs show up as “no response” in the HomeKit app. The remote control works fine and the gateway shows as connected. Not sure what to do now as I have had to reboot the gateway at least twice a day to be able to use HomeKit. So far the previous reviews were accurate and I should spent a bit more on Philips Hue instead.

Works well with HomeKit. No issues once we got it setup

Piece sh t software. Trying to set it up for 10 months now. No support, no clear instructions. “ All 3 lights are on and it’s still doesn’t connect? You’re sh t out of luck”

Why do devices need to be added to switches. Seems like poor design to not to be able to simply add a light bulb. Hub would be much more useful if it could control other manufacturers bulbs etc. Disappointing.

Setting up is a hassle (blinds). Adding the Gateway to my network was a hassle - it won’t work with VLANs. You need to have a proper VLAN fallback or it will simply never connect. Adding blinds is equally hard. I had all remotes/repeaters and blinds paired together, now I need to start over pairing them with the Gateway. It’s taking a lot of time, trial and errors and frustration. There’s no apparent reason which would explain that much complexity - I have over 40 smart home device, some of them on Zigbee, and have never had so much trouble. I should also mention how long it takes for the devices to update firmware. Hue has the same kind of environment, and they can do it incredibly faster than this thing here.

Love the product... hate the tech. Love the bulbs, they add great light to my space but I wish the colours were more diverse. I hate that I have to constantly reset it due to technical connection issues, I should have bought a different brand. Too many issues.

Chris. Why does this have to be so tedious? It’s annoying. Simplify the instructions

Sunrise/Sunset Timer. I suggested this feature a few weeks ago as I had this on an old BSR system back in the '80s Thanks for implementing Sunrise/Sunset timers-great feature that adds to the simplicity & security for our home.

Good product. The app and the lights work great, I installed them throughout my condo because the regular light switches were in inconvenient places and to connect to my lamp bulbs.

Scenes crashes my app. Ever since the latest upgrade, my app will not stay open. It will be visible until the Scenes load and then closes down. I’ve reset it, deleted the app, reinstalled the app, reset to factory settings. Same thing. Please create a functional app! I really like these products. They work great and are in a good price range. And I have a whole house of product. But I will switch to something else if you cannot create a reliable app. Come one! What are you thinking? Fix this please.

Forced to use an input devise. I purchased a bridge, a color light and a white light to see how good Ikea lights are... i can’t do nothing with those since the Ikea app request to pair at least one input device prior to control the light with the Ikea app. I don’t want input device, i use HomeKit for all my need..... bad bad bad.

J. Wow

Good value. The IKEA smart home system is a smart money decision, everything connects seamlessly and it is all extremely good value and high-quality.

Potential is There…. I used the software because it’s the only way to program the blinds and set them up. The software works, but it REALLY needs work. The software has potential to be very decent software. IKEA needs to spend time on this software, it’s not fully baked yet. I hope they clean this app up, as I want to buy more of IKEA’s automated blinds. FOLLOW-UP: Let me know if you want specific (repeatable) examples of problems with the app. Thank you for listening.

Seriously faulty. Flimsy USB ports. The inside micro USB fits loose, so if I move the unit and the jack moves out of its location, it loses power. This applies to the wall unit USB. Both should be snugly fit. Once I had the unit powered and still, tried to pair the remote. No success. It says 'press the button 4 times and the light will come on. No light came on. This is going back for a return. Too bad, the concept is good but IKEA was never famous for quality so not sure why I expected this to work.

Unable to pair with gateway. It took an entire day to get the gateway, remote, and two lightbulbs to all work together properly. The next morning, we were still able to use the system with the app on our iPhones. When we came home the next night, the app could not pair with the gateway. Nothing has changed. Everything is plugged in. The remote works. The app simply can't find the gateway and there are no solutions online. Where do I even get support? The FAQ page has nothing about this problem.

Poorly written software and very poor device installation direction no s. When it works it’s great. That said twice in the last few months I have lost everything and had to recreate all of my device connections. This includes Alexa integration to any routines using IKEA devices. Dear IKEA, my time is valuable. Wasting it recreating my network is a non-starter. I have disconnected everything and uninstalled the software. Buyer beware.

Phenomenal. These lights are everything you’re looking for to set a booth in your home, office, etc. I highly recommend this product

Portal to handoff to HomeKit. I don’t really use this app after setup since I use HomeKit to control the lights. A lot more functionality that way with way more automation possibilities. Everything worked for a few weeks and now all my automations are broken. Not sure if it’s an IKEA product’s fault or Apple.

No HomeKit Integration. I’ve always been quite pleased with all my past IKEA purchases, so when I heard about their smart home devices were going to finally become compatible with HomeKit, I was rather excited. But talk about being disappointed. Despite trying over a dozen times, the app simply refuses to connect with HomeKit. Everything works acceptably well when just controlling it through the app, but then again, so does nearly every other competitive products. Being able to integrate into my HomeKit network and then being able to control things with Siri was the only reason why I went with IKEA and not with a lower priced competitor. Definitely won’t be investing into any more of IKEA’s smart products until this fake integration is resolved.

After some initial pairing issues, it works pretty well!. I had a few issues pairing my gateway initially, but after a quick uninstall/reinstall things went smoothly. Really like the UI of the app!

Don’t buy these lights. These lights are the biggest pain! I wish we had just stuck to our light sensing bulbs. They are constantly having to be reset. And there’s no way to set an automatic dark to light you have to choose a time which in our part of the world changes a lot from winter to summer. They are constantly on when they’re not supposed to be on and then it’s really difficult to figure out how to turn them off and reset it I wish I could get my money back

New version unusable. The new version display a large blue screen with two some text in the upper region. I am stuck here. Cant manage my home anymore. Edit: it is fixed now, change my rating

Apple HomeKit. The IKEA TRÅDFRI worked just once with Apple HomeKit and when I had to reset the app it hasn’t worked since. I love IKEA products but I have yet to find any useful information or help with HomeKit integration. The hub just will not connect to iPhone or iPad via HomeKit and I have tried everything I could think of after each update with no luck. Still sticking with TRÅDFRI hopefully they can sort it out.

So many issues. 1) Firmware updates says pending, but never complete 2) Contact Support button in app always says “PLEASE TRY AGAIN” 3) Pairing devices just doesn’t work. 4) Trying to get a hold of a human from IKEA to tech support issues is impossible. No one at the main IKEA (888) number knows how to troubleshoot Tradfri and I was told by a short tempered rep “if it doesn’t work for you, just return it.” - Might take you up on that.

Design problem. Even it is compatible with HomeKit but you can’t see switches and motion sensors. Also huge problem with allowing only one switch per room. Like you have 3 lamps in the room and you cannot control then with the motion sensor AND switch at the same time. As a result all devices were returned and the application was uninstalled. Dear IKEA please let me know when you will fix all those problems.

Was good until one certain update…. This app was working wonderful until it updated and it has been horrible since. I have to constantly unplug and plug it into the wifi because it has connection issues since the update. Would not recommend.

Desperation. Never successfully add any Wireless Dimmer nor Remote Control. If you can’t do that, you’re unable to add any lights. That’s what I called desperation. However, I happen to have a backup Andr0id phone. It’s so easy to setup the TRÅDFRI system! It took me like two hours to add nothing with iPhone but twenty minutes to add four controllers and fifteen lights. It’s a shame for an iPhone people to get help from Andr0id. Fix the app please.

Trash. Really wish I saved my money up and went with all hue lights. This whole system is trash. The app is buggy, & doesn’t work with Siri anymore. The switches/remotes that U have to purchase worth the lights don’t last longer than a few days before the battery dies. I installed a few hue lights 3 years ago and haven’t had any problems since then... meanwhile this whole ikea set up has been a daily headache

Always disconnecting. Bought two different ikea gateways and tried on two different wifi routers and after a few months the gateway gets disconnected and I have to reset all over again. This has been an ongoing issue since 2017. I would not buy any IKEA Smart devices.

Changes for next update. This app needs a widget for easy access, changing colors or brightness to bulbs, control curtains... Also, save button needs to be static at bottom of the screen, I don’t like that for some small changes I need to scroll all the way down to confirm and save any changes.

Need more features via software.. Can we have some more features? How about cycling an option to cycle with the sun? Kind of like a sun lamp. How about a gradual dimming feature. Not just the “rise and shine” How about also allowing Apple home kit to control the color of the lighting by voice? I think there’s a lot you include feature wise that would only involve software updates.

Reset Router = Re-setup of whole system. We reset our router regularly, every time I reset I lose connection and have to uninstall and re-setup the whole system. Would love if this was fixed in the following versions. When it works, it works well. But it's incredibly annoying to have to re-setup every time you lose connection the to internet or something.

Return to ikea, junk tech. This app consistently doesn’t work. Either it opens and the buttons don’t turn lights on/off, or it tells me it can connect to the gateway. This ikea smart home stuff struggles outside the app too. It’s not unusual for a remote to stop working, or a single light bulb in a group stops responding. You turn the group off but one single stays on.

Finding my IKEA air purifier. Find my IKEA air purifier proved extremely difficult with the IKEA gateway, several attempts but once found it works well, take note I work in IT but the gateway interface needs improvement

Now with Google Home Support. Now that Google Home support has been added, I have changed my review to 5 stars. Works great with Google Home. Can turn on and off my lights with voice commands and change brightness. Love it!

don’t download this app for lights. i believe they want you to set this up with a third party device unless you have ikea blinds。 as you can not schedule the time for your lights unless you have both blinds and lights。 there is no color wheel unless you set up apple home or something。 definitely a lot of space for improvement。 nice to have but it’s honestly to simple。 also this should have auto rgb color swap。 the lights can do it and they sell the rgb strips, why not? this app is seriously just a demo, if you bought the lights or any other product this is compatible with don’t actually take this as serious。 simply use apple home or something better。 ps。 the lights look good tho。

Critical functionality removed. The app has gotten worse over time. They have removed critical functionality like disconnecting and reconnecting gateways or entering the gateway information manually. The app is now stuck in an infinite loop of trying to connect without success.

Pretty Good. The set up took some trial and error, but after that it works pretty good. I would like to see HomeKit integration and moods accessible from 3D Touch menu when I’m on the home screen. I would also like to be able to access the moods right when I open the app but that is not a big deal.

Timer now buggy. Since this update timers have now started going on and off an hour earlier than they are set to.

No FYRTUR blinds show up in Home app. This app supposedly supports them since 1.10.0, but though the IKEA Home Smart shows my FYRTUR blind, it doesn’t show up in the Home app after adding the gateway there. Their smart outlet works fine, and the blind works from *this* app, but forget about the Siri integration I bought these blinds for. 😢

Soooo buggy. Been working fine for a couple years. I recall it being an absolute nightmare to get setup, but once it worked it purred like a kitten. Now I went to add a new device and it was an absolute disaster. Existing devices stopped working, had to reset the hub multiple times and now I finally get the new device added, but the app is showing “updating” for the device since yesterday!!!

Broken for around two month now.... IKEA I like your guy’s stuff... also liked the tradfri devices in the past... Apple gives developers months of lead time before a new OS is released... why after 2 month of iOS 13 do you still not have a solution? I cannot connect my gateway to home kit! Control of the devices in the Ikea app works... just not what I want and what I paid for

Shouldn’t have run the last update. It was working horribly - not seeing my lamps, constantly needing to turn light on and off , which makes this whole idea and technology meaningless. However, after the update about a month ago all worked fine… right until another update just now. Stopped seeing the lamps again. Seriously Ikea?

Brilliant! Easy!. Love the ability control all Smart home stuff through the app! Really like how SONOS volume control is super wide spectrum. Color changing lights make it awesome!

Cheap entry to smart devices. Works ok, but with every update, it breaks. I have to unplug the hub to restart it. I have to make sure my app is updated, then check to make sure the the hub and IKEA devices are updated. These updates need to stop requiring physical intervention to get it working again.

Patience is key; room for improvement. The setup was a bit frustrating. I had to re-set up the same blinds multiple times. They’ll occasionally stop being recognize and I have to reboot the hub. Now when I’m attempting to use the app, the scroll bar jumps between different rooms and I’ll wind up opening/closing the wrong devices.

In general good but... I really like Ikea’s smart home products but they are still far from being a great. The setup procedure requires multiple attempts per device, it is not the smoothest process. The new smart blinds are not well integrated into the system, e.g. there is no way to add them to an existing room or move them from room, and they do not appear in HomeKit. Why is needed the signal repeater for the blinds to work? The panels make an unpleasant constant noise under certain brightness and tone settings. I think that in general it is nice product and there have been incremental improvements but sometimes they feel too slow.

Lots of improvements needed. Please remove wifi connection check because i can’t connect to my home via VPN. Also i have a lot of devices and scrolling through them is very laggy.

Terrible app filled with bugs. This is the worst app I’ve ever used. Trying to setup the FYRTUR roller blinds was an absolute nightmare. You follow the directions but it doesn’t work, so you try again and again and on the fifth attempt it randomly success. The actually using the app to control the blinds is infuriating. The touches register on the wrong part of the screen, so you end up controlling the wrong blinds. IKEA makes nice hardware but their software team is not up to the task.

Having so much fun!. I am shocked to see so many recent negative reviews - so far I am really enjoying the experience with the Trådfri products and this app! I’ve had just bulbs & remotes for about a year, and finally added the gateway this weekend. SO worth it. I am already planning more rooms to add to the system. Set up is definitely tedious - having to reset my remote and then walk all around to 4 light bulbs to manually add them (when they were already synced to the remote) was frustrating. I appreciated the good set up walk through instructions though. Made things a lot easier! Can’t wait to connect my symfonisk devices tomorrow!

Final update. New, out of the box, connected to HomeKit with only two blinds set up: within minutes, the hub is unresponsive in HomeKit. The IKEA app itself sees the blinds and can operate them without issues but HomeKit connection registers the devices as unresponsive. This is my third Tradfri unit and I’m done. Don’t bother with this product is my final opinion after three years of owning this product and trying to automate nine IKEA blinds throughout the house.

After setting up and pairing gateway/app connection reset. First on the overall connection - it’s a bit time consuming but relatively easy to connect the remote to the gateway and then the remote (again if you set this up prior) to the lights. If they are ceiling lights be prepared to stand on the ladder for 10s+ with the remote over your head while it pairs. I did all this, and once complete, after testing once and the app lost connection to the gateway and wanted me to redo the entire pairing and set-up AGAIN. Competitors are much easier, product wise. On the product side any light you wish to use with the gateway needs to be paired with a remote. Competitors enable you to pair directly to the light, and use your phone, Home assistant or whatever as the remote. I recently switched to IKEA from using a different brand. Likely will be switching back.

Works well!. This app is simple and easy to use once set up. I can't say the same for the pairing process of the bulbs and remotes, but that's not a fault of the app. The only thing missing is HomeKit support which I understand is coming- once that comes, this will be a 5 star app!

Blind. Should’ve known better than to think a company that makes cheapness its brand shouldn’t make anything that requires technology. Worked for about a week and stopped responding. Have read that this is very common (now that it is too late). Nice product that requires instillation only to have to remove because of course it is garbage like the furniture they sell.

Poor Experience. The gateway has some issue connecting to anything besides basic routers and unmanaged switches. I had to limp my way through the setup on another network to get an updated firmware that at least gets me internet connectivity. The gateway still drops off my network. Despite having 50+ rock solid HomeKit devices and 50 other devices on my network I’m still unable to get the Tradfri gateway added to HomeKit.

App doesn’t work. The whole point of this system is to be able to access it from this app or using a smart device like Alexa. Used to work a few months ago, now it only works with the provided remote. I have 3 bulbs in this system and the app can never see the bulbs and says they’re unreachable. It’s pathetic to have invested in the hub and system and it doesn’t work as intended.

Current Update. After the latest update I’m unable to even get past the loading screen of “Connecting to your gateway”.

Unfortunate. I had been using the smart lights for a while and happy with them. So I decided to get a smart outlet to plug a small window ac unit into specifically with the intent to use the “on/off” feature so that it would cool periodically throughout the day to keep my cat from overheating. Set it up easily a week ago & haven't thought about it until today. I’m home, at the time it should have turned on, and guess what? It’s not on. I am really disappointed that I can’t trust this.

Super buggy. Every time the app auto updates, my whole system collapses and everything gets disconnected. Sometimes it eventually fixes itself after some time, sometimes it never does and I have to manually disconnect/ reconnect everything one by one (their setup process is it’s own nightmare). Just so you know what you’re in for.

Buggy!. Very buggy, works less 50% of the time! 🤯 They need to go talk to Phillips Hue team. Took forever to hookup app to the (physical) Blinds and then a lot more time to get HomeKit to work. NOW it’s hit and miss if the app or HomeKit work. This team really needs to fix this app. Only way to control the blinds is to use the physical up/down button. I was hoping to use automation 😫

Annoying bug. Every update I’m hoping it would fix it but your app constantly changes other blinds position when you are trying to fine tune one blind position. What is this?? The moment I move the slider slowly, randomly other blind sliders would glitch out and move. I’m frustrated. This app is getting on my nerves and will never own a product if it keeps on going like this. Please fix.

Horrible with homekit. Setup was easy, the problem is this staying connected. Honestly, I have other cheap devices from China that work better with homekit and do not require a gateway or remote. I’d stay away until there is a major update.

Works fine. Sometimes I have a problem with HomeKit not connecting to the devices but I just unplug the ikea hub from the power and plug it back in. That usually solves the problem. I only have the issue after an update and occasionally after a power outage
