Very interesting.... I’m still trying to figure out what format I could use this app in, but it’s pretty fun to mess around with. It does have inter app audio, but it is pretty buggy in n-Track Studio Pro. Audiobus compatibly would be great and the ability to be able to set the release of the keys would be a game changer. Otherwise, this is a fun toy.

Love it!. Got for free but bought sound packs. Very fun and so much better than many (if not any) sound/music generators out there. Very funky 70s feel and it’s really addable right from the get-go to your (short) projects. Unique, enjoyable, great fun. Leyland Kirby could have a field day butchering this music.

Incredible, but add virtual midi please. IOptigan is a great, solid emulation that stands uniquely among all other iPad apps. The clunky elements that’d normally render most apps useless stands as a homage to the original device. The developer has obviously spent a great deal of time and head scratching figuring out how to create this digital beast w an analog heart + the price is right. Virtual midi however would be an amazing inclusion thus allowing its capability’s to grow by playing w it’s other pad friends. With vm I feel would enable the dev to charge a few bux (most of us use it allot). The general workings of the unit are greatly intuitive ever in future versions I’d love to see more info/help as far as its midi function. Otherwise this buggaz as as sweet as a tang, pixie stick powder and zotz induced diabetic coma. Hmmm scratch the diabetic coma part.

Good, but…. E major plays the sample for D Diminished instead? It’s weird. The weirdest part is that it isn’t swapped. D Diminished still plays what it’s supposed to. PLSFIX!

I love this. This app is clearly made with a lot of love. It’s extremely wild and awesome to be able to pick out my favorite spots from Optiganally Yours tunes, as well as make my own. A dream come true, and the first app that I’ve ever felt is truly worth the $.

Where’s my disc pak purchase?. I love this so much, but I cannot see how to load the extra content I just bought. Help?

Hell yeah. As a former (normally frustrated) optigan owner (mine died long ago) I was looking for some samples and stumbled on this app. Instant oscars all around. Has the same wonderful lofi and features of the original with midi added. Most important is the upside down switch, was a bit disappointed until I found it. So happy.

Touch issues & audio clipping. Update: There’s also audio level clipping, and since there’s no level control in the app, there’s nothing for the user to do about it. It gets worse when slowing the playback, using multiple keys (of course, because then it’s multiple samples), and adding reverb on the scaled notes. The scaled note keyboard playing bug I reported below seems not to happen on the iPad Pro 12.9”. One more star removed, now that I’ve found the audio level problem. Sigh. Original review: I just started playing with this app and quickly found that the bottom row of controls doesn’t respond correctly. The buttons & keys will animate with touches near the bottom of the screen but the sounds aren't triggered unless the finger is moved up farther, which might be too far to trigger the controls (note: I’m using an iPhone 6s, rotated such that the lightning port is to the right, with iOS 12.x). That’s pretty weird. Does that mean the developer has separate touch zones for audio triggers and for control animations? This results in a music app that’s not very playable. Luckily it was free when I “bought” it; this kind of usability flaw in an app I’ve actually spent money on would result in a much worse rating.

Better than a real Optigan!. Why is this better than a real optigan? Because it actually works! I don't think I'll ever find a working optigan, let alone find the discs! This app works perfectly, and recreates the interface which makes it so easy to use to make music! I can't stop playing Sparklehorse songs on this app! It is so fun!

Completely meets expectations!. Oh man, I have been waiting for this. Having been an owner of 2 Optigans and a complete disc set, I have been long waiting for someone to create a comprehensive app or plug in for the legendary Optigan. As anyone who has owned an Opitgan knows, that can be troublesome creatures, sticky switches that work intermittently etc. This app completely delivers the goods. At first I didn't realize that you could incorporate one of my favorite features of the Optigan, in that you can insert the discs in upside down and play the prerecorded tracks backwards. So happy they included this feature on the app! This is a fantastic app that truly delivers the goods! Great job guys!

Finally, woot!. Have been waiting for this for years and so glad it’s here! Purchased the sample CD-ROM from Pea many years ago but this interface makes it much more fun and interactive (not to mention portable)! The only things that would make it any better would be: Ableton Link for tempo syncing (if technically possible given the continuous looping), AUv3 for tight DAW integration, and receiving MIDI program changes (for calling up programs when playing live gigs). Great work and thanks, guys!

FINALLY!. I’ve been hoping for an Optigan app for years, and who better to come out with one than Pea Hicks? I, too, bought his original CD-ROM disc of Optigan sounds and it’s been one of my favorite sources of sonic oddity. Now, it’s right here on my iPad! Works great, sounds great, interface is fun and easy; if you love old, lo-if sounds, you owe it to yourself to pick this up! I only have one request: Can we get an add-on pack of Orchestron sounds, pretty please?

Absolute FUN. Very well executed in every aspect. Tempo changes, a plethora of different sounds and settings. I highly recommend this identical replication of a wonderful machine.

scratching my head.... So the app is the best. Seriously. Fun, creative, my type of weird. But for the life of me no matter how many pairs of headphones I have tested I can only get audio through the left headphone in this app??

Stunning!!!. I have spent decades trying to find a working optigan, disks, and support. As any Opti fan knows Pea Hicks and his team are the gurus and even if you get a unit it will need work and at best last a bit before it needs it again. Years ago Pea made a cdrom of sounds available which was pricy but amazing. still, the joy of an optigan is playing it’s ridiculous buttons and switches in real time to “make” the music. It’s the ultimate obscure “cha-cha” box. This app is done RIGHT. It capture all the nuance and features and is well laid out. I have never even heard a working reverb on an Opti- this has it! Haven’t tried the midi support but it appears to be extensive and there is even demo and recording features. You will never find an optigan in this condition let alone with this collection of disks. This app captures and gives you the real deal. After almost 30 years and with two semi working Optis in my living room I am over joyed to see this app. On an emotional and personal note The low price is absurd. Buy it now and pick up the full disk upgrade and support this team that has kept Optigan fever alive for all this time. - DT in Phila, Pa.

The greatest thing. I vaguely remember hearing about these devices a hundred years ago, but never saw one in real life. This app is brilliant, and more fun than can be believed. It's 100% cheesy, but after five minutes to figure out what the hell is going on, anybody can make delightful music in a host of different styles. It comes with 25, "disks," of different styles, with another 15 available for IAP, either individually or all at once. The whole thing is a huge bargain, and the developer is a genius. Be the life of any/every party!

Really cool but doesn’t fit modern screen sizes.. This app is great, but it doesn’t fill the entire screen for more recent devices. If you could update the app with larger screen compatibility that would be amazing.

Addictive fun. This is addictive and will drive your family nuts. My favorite thing is to look up random chord charts for classic songs and follow along on a random setting- Polynesian Village version of Hard Days Night ?!?!? Sweet.

Great App.. Brings me back to the day when I had my Optigan. My only criticism for this app is, I wish it had a way of limiting the loudness of the pops and scratches (equalizer?) they seem louder than I recall on my original optigan and not all of my discs were pristine. Otherwise, this is still an outstanding app! Thanks!

The iOptigan app makes me so happy!. I’ve been waiting for this app for years and it’s everything I ever dreamed of and more. I never thought the app would include being able to flip over the discs and play them backwards, but it does :) Now all it needs is a way to stack the discs and play them combined.

very good except a few things. the touch is a little off for the bottom row of buttons, and i cannot get any sound to come through the left of my headphones. kind of problematic since i wanted to use the samples to make music,,

Incredible and a must-have application!. The value is off the charts with this application! Oh, and to reviewer "Schnauzage" - you CAN play the discs upside down - just press the button that does that function located at the top of the disc screen! Have fun!

Question. I spent years looking for Optigan sounds to throw into a rompler, etc. Nothing ever worked that great. iOptigan has everything all in one place once you buy all the discs. My only issue is trying to figure out how to export a wav. Is this not available?

Beauty and very similar. This sounds just like the Optigan I had. I only had a couple of discs and this has the whole set. Very much worth the price. I should have known Pea Hicks was involved. It is outstanding!

Better than the real thing.. Love my real optigan, but it'll never work this well. Haven't hooked up a controller yet, but the in-app controls are great. Outstanding work! Includes all the rare discs I'll never find. Fingers crossed for Pea's original discs!

Sometimes the unexpected is cool!. I bought this app out of curiosity and it turns out I find it really cool. Sure it’s cheesy as hell and it sounds old (with crackles and all other noises associated with vinyls) but that’s what makes it charm. You imagine what all of these sounds from yesteryears could bring to your music today and then the possibilities are infinite. Buy it!

iOptigan is perfect. I've been using this since day one and love everything about it! I especially like the variable tempo. Before this app came along, I was using an Optigan emulator made by another company. While it was good, this is way better. Fans of the band Sparklehorse will find some instantly recognizable sounds here. Please don't ever stop supporting this app!
