ModMed Practice Add-On App Description & Overview

What is modmed practice add-on app? EMA Add-On is a companion application to EMA by Modernizing Medicine. It provides our Users with additional functionality that is sometimes necessary for proper usage.

Please note that EMA can only be used in conjunction with a subscription-based Web Application Service. Modernizing Medicine introduces the first native iPad application designed for medical surgical specialities — EMA by Modernizing medicine for iPad. Each relevant part of the visit can be recorded in real time by the patients in the waiting room and by the medical assistants, physician extenders, or physicians in the exam room. At the end of each patient visit, data is transmitted back to the server automating documentation without costing the doctor a second.

ModMed Practice Add-On Comments & Reviews 2026

Best Available to us. No one LOVES there EMR, but I have to admit that I do really like ours (ModMed). From the standpoint of a physician, it has the best user interface and is SO much faster for getting my notes done than any of the systems we have used in the past. (I'm an ENT physician). I can't speak to the practice Management part of the system since I am not involved with that. No system is perfect, and one must accept that with any EMR, but I am happier using this one than any I've used previously and I do recommend it.

One of the worst EMRs out there. And I’ve used a lot of them. The note output is pretty bad. If I work around the program I can get a decent note, but I shouldn’t have to work against the program, it should be working for me. Prescription refills are a joke, usually it’s just faster to input a new one. Using the “follow up” function in the CC is full of stuff from even earlier visits that no longer applies. I would like to see prior rx’s pulled into the chart so they can easily be refilled, here no chance. The Dxs are completely jumbled, not even in alphabetical order, and contain tons of junk not even pertinent to my specialty. The plans are just as jumbled. I recommend passing on this EMR completely.

Horrible. Every time they “fix” a problem something else stops working or disappears. No explanation, no apologies. After 3 years, some very obvious words, phrases, locations are still missing.

The worst and overpriced.. Nightmare. And mod med simply put — horrible.

Poor service, poor communication, poor teaching on site.. Modmed has poor communication with your practice once they sign you on for a year and get your money. They lack technical support that has knowledge of your practice. Many times with technical assist it takes over 24 hours to get back to you on your question (problem) and then are told “we will get back to you”because they can not answer the question. We get multiple answers, with only one being correct, on multiple problems. The best session we had was with a doctor who is practicing, and we had to schedule weeks in advance and were given 30 min because he was busy.

Call button?. Call button doesn’t always pop up. Also doesn’t make an alert sound. Call button should have an audible signal not just a visual signal. Also the ability to separate office locations for call button. I.e. if I’m in location an and location b sends a call button to a group only those in location b should get the alert not everyone in location a&b.

Great for ENT. After having used multiple systems, I really do like this EMR. I have used it now for the last two years. It is Intuitive and he updates. Keep adding relevant risks and benefits to new procedures and also including new CPT codes.

Best ophthalmology EMR. Would definitely recommend.

Worst and most expensive program out there. It is so unfortunate. There are so many glitches that you have to deal with, every patient, every day, every week, that never get fixed, costing you hours and hours per day, pulling your hair out, just won’t fix. Tech-support will admit and express don’t understand how this happened, but getting it fixed just never gets done. When you’re trapped your accounts receivable or in this program and you can’t quit. Worst part of the whole thing is they are the most expensive their wrist.. EMR’s that are less than half the price and are five times faster, more versatile and more accurate. Very disappointing.

Listen to the reviews! Don’t do it!. Terrible EMR and EVERYTHING takes longer to do.

Lots of Potential…. But Needs Work. This app could truly be the best EMR available if they would take the time to listen to the requests of the countless orthopedic and neurological surgeons who use it. there are basic features of the app that would apply to every user, that need improvement (some are simple… the save feature at the bottom often activates the iPad Home Screen line). The app also needs keyword searches for diagnoses and not just the exact word match that it currently requires… there are countless ways this app could be better if only the developers would listen to the users and respond far more quickly.

10 years. After 10 years of use I have not seen any EMR better for ophthalmology.

Worst Update. This update is the worst. Love ModMed, hate this update

Expect an 8% Rate Increase Every Year. My derm practice has been with ModMed for 10 years. The support has deteriorated tremendously during that time. Tickets for issues we’ve had have languished for months without resolution. And, yep, they want their 8% annual increase with no ability to lock in a rate. My partners and I wish we’d stuck with pen and paper. Even with the penalties we’d incur for MIPS, we’d still be far ahead financially with the ability to see more patients and less the tremendous cost of this EHR.

Updates EVERY D@M WEEK !. More time wasted than any other EMR I have ever used for 20 years ...

Ncdh. Not at all what was sold. Fragmented and not as efficient as was expected. In carrying on the tradition from their prior EMR platform multiple hiccups and continual fixes.

You better know what you’re getting into. Great sales pitch. Soon as you sign up be ready for absolutely no support, no training, no help. The people assigned as your contacts are a joke. They don’t return calls or emails. They have hidden costs, like faxing for instance. They charge you PER PAGE so be ready for an astronomically high bill for faxing. System has some nice features for billing, but it also makes some simple billing tasks (that were simple in our former system) into complex monstrosities that require a call to support every time. Just wait and see. Absolutely awful company and wouldn’t recommend to anyone! Buyer beware.

No EMR is perfect but this is surprisingly good. This lends itself well to efficient and quality documentation. If they had a better PACS (picture archive and communication system) for image review it would be a 5 star. As with anything, the more time you spend familiarizing yourself with the software the better it will work for you.

Terrible. This is absolutely the worst medical app I have ever used. You fix one thing and screw up something else. Maybe try testing it before rolling it out to find your mistakes. You guys are absolutely terrible!

Excellent software for Ophthalmology. Our practice has tried 4 different EMRs over the past 9 years. We last had NextGen, which was very time consuming. It would be great for an accountant, because it was like staring at an Excel spreadsheet for each patient visit. Our revenue increased notably after switching back to ModMed, as the coding functions were more robust, and accurate. I used to have two scribes, running two rooms. With the Covid-relate staffing shortage, we lost quite a few scribes and I have been self-scribing 80% of the time for the past six months. I could not have done this accurately with NextGen. There are some mild bugs, and development can take some time, but there aren’t any better ophtho EMRs that I have used/tested.

Worst EMR. Terrible. I neatly have such a hard time coming up with a positive thing to say. I was bamboozled during the demos sad they had certain things and they do not. The slowness of the app omg. Then call it diagnosis plan why impression think you are slick that is just dumb! Reporting I do not feel confident is correct. The 101 things to an EMR are not there. Practice management is lacking serious functionality. I have tried to get things relived have I ever been contacted nobly a manager or higher up NOPE they don’t care. Caution look at something else. I would like to turn it off and go back to my other crappy EMR that is better than this. Very very dissatisfied

Lackluster EMR. Usability features on the iPad is handy, however finding an ICD 10 diagnosis code can sometimes be very difficult and time consuming. I often spend an extra five minutes on about 25% of my clinic visit notes just trying to find the correct diagnosis code for common issues seen in an orthopedics outpatient clinic. This has been very frustrating! I haven’t had this issue with other EMR’s such as Athena, Centricity, or Epic. I honestly think it’s because this EMR was originally developed for a dermatology practice. Also, I didn’t realize until after we purchased this system that there are extra costs of certain features that other EMR’s provide as part of the basic package fee. We are constantly having to scan in image reports and lab results rather than it coming into an in-basket for physician review. So, unfortunately, I am not notified by the EMR when the results of my orders are back. As you might imagine, this opens the door to future lawsuits if there is an unexpected critical lab or radiological image finding you don’t know has resulted for a week or even a month since these are sometimes ordered at outside facilities and don’t know when the patient has been scheduled for the test. Finally, the most infuriating thing is that my dictation within the Impression and Plan section will sometimes not save. This only happens about 15% of the time after I’m about to finalize and sign my note which you can imagine is a huge letdown. So, I end up coping every dictation even before I hit save so that I can then go back and paste back in the Impression and Plan section if or when it doesn’t save. There have been a few of these instances where I will have to repeat this entire process three times before the system will actually save what I dictated. I have never, ever encountered this before in any other EMR system I used during clinical rotations in medical school, residency, or fellowship training. You should never have to doubt your EMR and be concerned about this ever happening. When I contact support, all they can tell me is that they have to witness it happening in order to figure out to fix it. So, to me this is an unrealistic request bc I often close my notes after hours at home in the evenings or weekends or am trying to close them as quickly as I can while keeping up with a very busy schedule during the day so I can spend more time with my wife and 3 kids on the weekend. Lost time is essentially lost money. I believe there is some sort of glitch between this EMR and the built-in Dragon dictation function. Buyer beware!!! Do not purchase this EMR.
