Modmed Practice App Description & Overview

What is modmed practice app? Please note that EMA can only be used in conjunction with a subscription-based Web Application Service. Modernizing Medicine introduces the first native iPad application designed for medical surgical specialities — EMA by Modernizing medicine for iPad. Each relevant part of the visit can be recorded in real time by the patients in the waiting room and by the medical assistants, physician extenders, or physicians in the exam room. At the end of each patient visit, data is transmitted back to the server automating documentation without costing the doctor a second.

Modmed Practice Comments & Reviews 2024

💸 Want to send money abroad for free?

We transfer money over €4 billion every month. We enable individual and business accounts to save 4 million Euros on bank transfer fees. Want to send free money abroad or transfer money abroad for free? Free international money transfer!

Ortho. Not perfect but I’ve been through four EMR by farThe best. Plus they’re constantly improving her if I could give it six stars I would.

App consistently crashing. This app crashes more times than any other app I have used, the charting is ok but the stupid thing crashes at the most inconvenient times

Supposed to save you time and make you money, but costs you time and loses money. Within 4 months of “committing” to this platform, the monthly price escalated significantly, and we’ve seen a second increase since. Promised features like Rx via cellphone don’t work and no one cares. My partner pays for narcotics Rx, but surprise, never worked-and no one cares. Three groups here with 20 providers are soon to leap elsewhere.

Excellent Product. Not sure why there are negative reviews. I have used several EMR systems over the course of 20 years. I recently switched to EMA, and couldn’t be happier. The system just works. Our workflow is easier, the notes make more sense and are laid out in a logical pattern. The path log is fantastic. Every update makes the program better and better. In the future, I would like to see better photo management. Otherwise, this is perhaps the best current Dermatology EMR system.

Love this EMR!. I love EMA! I’m surprised by all the negative reviews. I have used EMA for my dermatology practice since 2013 and have not had any complaints. I feel it is very user friendly and I am very pleased with it. I tried to switch to another EMR and it was a nightmare. They couldn’t compare!

Horrible. Horrible does not begin to adequately describe what a disaster modernizing medicine is. The system is flat out terrible. Takes a million clicks to see a patient. The system is all about generating a bill but isn’t interested in the least about patient care or enabling doctors to see patients and quickly document their thoughts and the plan in an efficient matter. There are pre generated discussions that are all a disaster. Trying to look at previous visits quickly is a disaster and not easy. Everything about this system is bad.

Huge time saver. If you spend time up front building protocols and customizations you can document most visits in about 30 seconds. This truly is the best and most efficient EHR available.

Stop updating. EMA team. No need for such constant updates. Most of the time the updates make things much worse and inefficient. Please. Stop. Updating. So. Often! Go back to how it was five years ago when it was at its best.

Ophthalmology. Excellent program and customer service. We’ve been with EMA since we opened four years ago and have been very happy with it. Our provider had experience with several other EHRs and said this was by far the best. Having a cloud-based platform saves us the expense and hassle of maintaining an on-site server.

Do not buy!!. Awful. We had revolution ehr before and so much better.

Don’t do it. We were forced in to this abomination of an EMR. It has killed productivity, diminished the diagnostic integrity of our charts, and made the notes unreadable and devoid of useful information regarding the encounter. And let’s not forget to mention the fraud potential of using protocols and forgetting to delete orders and plans you did not perform or order. Because you cannot amend notes to correct errors. This system is horribly designed and grossly inefficient. Add on to all of that the complete disaster that is their install and go live plan.

Good and bad. Good: I like the format of the notes. It eprescribes reasonably easily. Bad: I have had several instances where input in exam does not equal output to the note. Some really serious things too where if not caught on review could be bad. In addition it crashes and errors a lot. Even the web based application this weekend won't pull up previous exams and have to close and relogin multiple times. It doesn't interface with anything or any other EMR. This is my biggest beef with all EMRs though. They don't play nice with each other. Switching to EPIC and couldn't be more excited. For a private practice may be adequate.

Fast, quick efficient!. I have used three other platforms including epic, another PC based system and Macpractice. EMA hands down out performs them all. With EMA I am able to easily train my MA’s to scribe fore me. Total time for me to review, amend and finalize 90% of notes is 30-60 seconds. Also very little amending and no dot phrases to create. EMA comes pre populated with most of what you need yet is still customizable for any preferences. Thank you for such a great product.

What happened?. With the new update, everything has slowed down. In fact, I cannot finalize my notes without closing the app and restarting.

Home button. Go back to when it was always in the same place

Meh. Multiple issues. For one, we were never given in person training. Virtual training is not sufficient. Still struggling after almost 3 years with this to figure out how to use it to its so called potential. Search function for either diagnoses or patients is horrific. After a while, it slows down or the screen pauses, there’s a several second delay between you typing in something then words showing up, can’t even scroll without hickups. Have to uninstall and reinstall the app( but then you lose all your customizations) each time that happens, about once every few weeks. It’s not our internet…we’ve done ping tests. Too many clicks to get what you need. Look elsewhere.

Financials. Practice Management software below par. Greatly lacking in the ability to generate the most rudimentary monthly end reports needed by all medical practices. Overpayments by patient secondary supplements are a financial nightmare to process. MIPS calculations by this software are NOT always per CMS specifications.

EMA is awful. EMA Simply awful EMA has given our practice no financial or clinical return for renting their software. Workflow is horrible Safety is awful No interoperability with other practices or physicians No HISP directories No drug formularies and prices per plan Content is infantile defaults There’s not a day that goes by where our physicians and staff don’t bemoan our use of modernizing medicines product and there’s no doubt we’d go back to paper charts if Federsl laws didn’t penalize us and leave this predatory company

Dermatology. We love EMA ! When it works, it great !

Use if you want to add hours to your day. I used to be done when I left the office, but since using ema, I now have hours of charting to complete after hours. It is so cumbersome to use. You are constantly waiting for the software. So much clicking. Constantly dealing with bugs in the software. Don’t make the mistake of signing up with them since it is very hard to change to another electronic medical system once they have sucked you in.

Hate it. 1) it is nice to have eRx ability and ability to pull up patient information, which is the case for any EHR I think, but other than that this thing is horrible. I would give zero if I could. 2) things that are supposed to be “sticky” (pulled forward from prior notes, I.e. sutures you use every time, etc) DO NOT work. I use the same sutures 90% of the time and still have to scroll through a list and choose same thing over and over now nearly 10 years later). Likewise for surgery templates. When I first got this system, I typed up all of my surgery templates to be the way I wanted them and poof they were gone. 3) it is so slow. I often find myself wondering if I just didn’t hit the button on iPad hard enough because nothing is happening. 4) monthly fee is automatically withdrawn from bank. I got several notifications of travel expenses recently for in person training to the tune of several thousand dollars that was in the process of being withdrawn from my bank. I called and told them we’ve been using their system for several years and have not had any recent in person training and that this must be a mistake. I demanded to speak to someone, but was told that department didn’t take calls. They gave me a case number. I blocked these transfers from my bank and I have not heard a word from them now ~2 months later, but still get bills for these travel expenses for what must be someone else’s practice. 5) I could go on but I won’t.

Words escape me…. It is hard to put into words what a total time sink this EMR represents. Having worked with EMR’s since 2005 on multiple platform, I think the description that this is a “slow motion train wreck running into a dumpster fire” only partially captures the effect this software has on a providers efficiency. If you like wasting 1-2 hours per day babysitting software, this is the application for you. Don’t let the flashy marketing materials fool you, there is no substance. Not a day goes by without my wondering whether the software developers really have this much disrespect for a healthcare providers time. Prepare to memorize ICD-10, because you can no longer rely on your EMR to search for codes. Get a multi monitor system because you will need to have an ICD10 search site up on another monitor to move your day forward. (The developers of this software do not care to bother with providing Soundex search capability. ). If you write a prescription, do not expect the SIG and DISP to flow through to the med list - you have to enter that in different fields because the developers cannot figure out how to capture that in the med list. Expect hot-patches to fix the bugs in each release - the development process is broken. In short - do not waste your time, do not waste your money, do not risk your practice…. Consider other alternatives.

Terrible. F.. We recently changed to the system, and I have never regretted anything more. This program is absolutely horrible and unnecessarily complicated. If you are considering this EMR, I would recommend anything else. Writing in crayon would be an improvement.

Wildly Offensive. While as an MA I think there are many aspects of the actual visits that are really user friendly, but the fact that all patient diagrams have white skin is so offensive and infuriating. There is no option to change skin color to match that of the patient, all patient diagrams are white. I cannot believe no one thought this to be a problem.

New update. The new update is not good to say the least, way to much scrolling on desk top and ipad, go back to having tabs for conj, cornea, lens, disc, makes life easier for us scribes instead of scrolling or typing in our information every single time. For a doctor who sees more than 60 patient a day this update just does not work.

GARBAGE. This new update has completely ruined the exam portion on the exam. The new bubble bullets are HORRIBLE!!! it needs to go back to the way it was which made it much faster and more efficient. App constantly freezes or crashes. The only positive I have for this system is escribing.

Poor support. Works well most of the time but when there is a glitch and you talk to support they think it’s all your fault or your settings and treat you poorly.

The worst. 1 star only because 0 is not an option. Our practice has had ModMed for 16 weeks. It is the single worst decision we have ever made. We have had to hire multiple MAs to help with data entry, which is not a cost efficient trade. Everyone hates this. We are now data entry clerks, and patient care is no longer the focus. In just under 4 months, this single dumpster fire of software has killed any morale in our practice. Providers are actively seeking other jobs because of Mod Med. It adds hours to the day for the inefficient charting format. Taking work home or staying late is the new normal for my life. If you want every note to say the same meaningless thing, their templates are awesome. If you want your note to actually mean something, its absolutely terrible. To enter data in a personalized way, so that you can go back and read your notes to remember what happened or your thought process is painful. I sincerely hope this company goes bankrupt so that we can change to literally anything else. Nowhere in business is a more expensive, lower quality, less efficient “upgrade” described as a great idea. Run away from this system as fast as you can.

Why wait. I totally agree with the fact of the iPad EMR is the way to go. It is here to stay. I also agree that the biopsy application is horribly flight. Yes it does take a full time for us to chase down these results. There’s so many steps to review and finalize test results and biopsy results that they can easily be overlooked. The information is so in bedded you have to look at many places to see the results and finalize them. It’s also not that easy if you want to take something out of the note or change something you already put in the note. EMA has been around long enough these things should be corrected right now. Either EMA doesn’t believe they’re a problem or they’re simply not gonna listen

Don't let the negative reviews keep you from this fantastic ear. I have been using this system for over 3 yr now and it is wonderful. Very efficient and minimally glitchy. I don't work for them, but I am a very happy customer. Nothing else compares to it in the EMR arena for Derm.

This EMR GIVES ME ANXIETY. To edit a paragraph you need to go through three channels. To find results you have to dig and prey for divine help. Logs are poor. Notes are too wordy. And coding is iffy. The diagnoses are incomplete for derm. It’s so so. Really giving me good reason to retire early.

Worst EMR I have worked with. Very inefficient. Constantly crashes, unable to chart on Sunday nights before the week begins due to updates (previous EMRs I worked with did updates on Friday night or Saturday night during low traffic, which made more sense for clinicians). Multiple steps to chart than are even necessary. No opportunity for chart note templates based on problem which would make charting much easier. I keep waiting for this EMR to get better...still waiting...

Good product, no regrets. We have used EMA since 2016 and have no regrets. It works well for our dermatology practice. We use ModMed PM as well and feel the same about that product. Are there things I wish were different? Of course; but all in all, this has been an excellent solution for us.

Login. App now requires login anytime the app is minimized. Please fix this because it wastes time.

Do not choose EMA. We bought EMA within the last six months. It was a mistake. We were under the impression that it was engineered to think as a doctor would. It does not. We have the dermatologist edition and the ENT. The procedural portion contains more junk and certainly was not written by a surgeon or even by a physician who knew the standard format of operative reports. To tract biopsy reports is laborious. Your diagnostic choices are constricted and limited and often to find an appropriate diagnosis, you must guess what the programmer was thinking. Don’t believe any of the hype about this system. Continue your search for a better system.

Not the best EMR. Inflexible system with poor drug prescribing program. The EMR is slow and freezes up on a regular basis.

Basically satisfied. We have used the EMR for over 3 years and the Practice Management for over 2 years and have no regrets. Nothing is perfect, but this EMR and PM program integrate well with each other.

I loathe this app. Have no choice bc I have to use at work, but this app is horrible. I rarely say this, but I truly hate it. Buggy, loses my data, not intuitive. Run away.

QUIT “updating”. At first I was impressed that you continued to change and improve this product. NOW the “improvements” are more of a hindrance- just STOP! For example I don’t need a huge green button to tell me it’s finalized and I have to wait 3 more seconds to proceed. You are supposed to make it better not worse.

Wonderful Product. We have used this product for 5 years now. It has changed and updated and continues to improve. I love how quickly I am able complete an exam. It allows me to spend time with my patients and not with charts. For Optometry or Ophthalmology it is the BEST software out there! I own 4 locations. We all love it!

Not perfect, but pretty good. In the beginning, I hated EMA. Having to document all these things over again since it didn’t port over the old EHR records well (it gave pdfs but they were pretty useless), was absolutely painful and I wanted to switch back. As we’ve gotten used to it (I have a scribe), we’ve gotten more efficient. Yes, there is more documentation, but since I have quite a few complex ophthalmology patients, I’ve noticed an uptick in my per visit coding. We’ve finally been able to go fully paperless now, which was always a dream of mine! Sure it has some kinks, but what EHR doesn’t?

Best EHR. This is a specialty EHR that is the very best of its type. Product is fast; documentation is excellent and audit-proof, and requires almost no typing. Support is the best I have ever had or ever heard of from any company. Program is updated with features and fixes about every two weeks which is unheard of in EHR-dom. Keep up the great job!

So much potential. EMA is great for day to day patient visit. It’s horrible, absolutely horrible when it comes to results (biopsies, excisions and other procedures) followup. It’s hard to imagine how bad it is. We were misinformed prior to purchasing EMA reg it’s abilities to follow up results. The result log is so bad and poorly design that it takes an extra full time employee for each medical provider to simply keep up with it. We had another digital biopsy log before , very simple but so much better. I don’t think it would take EMA that much to improve their biopsy log. It’s such a shame because if EMA just improved the biopsy log , the software would be fantastic — there are so many cool things about this EMR. PLEASE CONSIDER WORKING ONTHAT PART OF SOFTWARE.

A Good Effort But Frustrating. When it works it’s helpful, however periodically you will run into technical errors that have nothing to do with medicine. Support is limited and unpredictable causing your workload to build up as you attempt to troubleshoot through the problem. It’s a laudable effort to be sure, but not yet ready for prime time.

Worst medical software. Terrible software. I would never recommend anyone getting this software

Negative reviews about crashing are misleading. I have used this program for more than two years. Faster internet speed will nearly resolve crashing problems. Now since most of my patients are in the system my charting time is less than paper charting.

Even the update fails. I cannot sign in at all on my iPad w/out updating BUT the update won’t load so I cannot use the iPad version at all now. Like someone else remarked, it gets worse every time they publish a ‘fix.’

Ophtho. Great platform for ophthalmology. I wish they get clinicians’ feedback when going to a newer version. Maybe they do, maybe the wrong ones. Anyway, very happy end user.

Get your crap together. ModMed makes updates, and each update is not done well. it is very buggy. Disappointing. I am sure my practice paid a lot for it

Not Recommended for Eye Surgeons. The platform has excellent potential but unfortunately falls flat on its face because of poor support and failure to address the needs of the average eye surgeon. In particular the sections necessary for the anterior segment surgeon to document properly, counsel and avoid litigation are woefully inadequate. Very cumbersome to use for an anterior segment surgeon performing cataract surgery and LASIK. A real pity because the ability to use the iPad and having everything stored in the Cloud is the right approach. Pity that the execution is so poor.

Strengths and Weaknesses. I was part of a large academic medical center and used EPIC for about 5 years prior to witching practices and starting to use EMA, which I've now been using for about 3 months. Strengths: 1. Easy to get up and running very quickly. However, how "fast" you're able to run is pretty limited - in EPIC it took a while to figure it out, but once I did it was much more efficient than EMA for everything but documenting office visits. 2. Very good functionality for allowing office staff who don't know much or have much experience to be able to adequately document patient visits as scribes. This is the main strength of EMA, but also the main function an EMR needs to get done, so it should be the best part. Weaknesses: 1. Prescribing is clunky but not terrible. 2. Ordering labs is horrendous. Should be able to easily select by clicking boxes on a menu of common labs, then print it as an order. Would be even nicer if it also gave the option to e-order labs directly with quest and lab corp, but making labs easier to select and print is a MUST. To be honest, I can't believe you've been in business this long without addressing this - it is very close to being a deal breaker for me. 3. Writing instructions for patients and printing them is difficult and doesn't allow enough formatting options (such as making font larger for the elderly). 4. Functionality for communicating with office staff via notes regarding labs, biopsies, patient phone calls, etc really and truly stinks, for multiple reasons, and again, I can't believe EMA has been around as long as it has without fixing basic issues like those below: 4.1. Should be able to set a default individual (my primary nurse) to whom any notes I write are routed to 4.2. Should be able to route a note to multiple people 4.3. System should automatically stamp every note with the author name, date, and time as soon as they exit it or send it to someone else - should not be able to write in the record without this info being attached to what was written. 4.4. number of clicks needed to e-prescribe should be reduced (not as big a deal as numbers 1-3) 4.5. Should be integrated with goodrx.com to automatically show the cash price of prescriptions (this one not nearly as important as numbers 1-3). 4.6. Sending e-prescriptions is harder than it should be - should be able to select and send for more than one patient at a time.

Necessary evil. We have to use electronic record to practice medicine these days. Unfortunately this is the crap we have to use. Their platform is very unstable. It crashes regularly and becomes in operable for hours. They upgrade overnight without informing us in advance so you can walk in in the morning and find you have to manually download new software to have your iPad work, all the while patients are waiting for you to begin seeing them.It makes my day more stressful, not less so. Ugh. PS. They block unfavorable reviews

Horrible. I gave this app one star simply because it was necessary but it is absolutely HORRIBLE. It crashes and freezes all the time, there are constant updates, the interface is always being tweaked with. Its the worst. If you want a stable reliable system, this is not the one to have. I work with patients and this makes my job 20000 times harder when i have to constantly be babysitting the system so it doesn't freeze and doing patient care at the same time. The camera orientation has issues. Do yourself a favor and find a better system.

Best in Ophthalmology. Our 27 doctor clinic has used EMA for two years. We came from paper, and had a smooth transition primarily due to the hard work of our scribes combined with the ease of use of their native iPad app. Most impressive aspect of this company is their responsiveness to change features to aid doctor’s workflow. They hire docs, both for medical information, but also to write code. Frequent monthly updates to the app show that they are a software company that has the resources to continue development on an already full featured program.

Connection. Frequent connection errors and crashes. Very frustrating. Their support blamed my internet connection. I tracked lag at amazon web services which is their server host. They claimed it was fine on their end but different parts of the country will log to different servers so not a valid test. I’m not an IT person and not sure if it is problem on their end or amazon but it isn’t my internet connection. They said my IT person or comcast needs to change my routing, really? This is not a problem for any other web programs I use.

Cannot log into the app. After the last update today, 9/16/17, I cannot log into the app. Login from the website is not a problem. Fix login bug please
