TESTIMONIALS:
"BeatMirror truly is simplicity at its finest. That quality is missing from most apps who try to cram too many features into one app thus making it difficult to use and many times buggy. We feel like your app is VERY good. We're reviewing BeatMirror and it will be a part of the next show. It's got nothing but thumbs up!" - Phil Smith of "Drummer's Weekly Groovecast" (podcast)
"When I first heard about BeatMirror, I was kind of skeptical but after trying it out for weeks now and playing with it everyday, I'm mindblown. Alex really wanted to put a focus on helping drummers improve their internal clock and I really think he's done so." - Richard Ducat of "Drummers I Like" (podcast)
"Overall, this app is so quick and simple to use, there's not really an excuse as to why you wouldn't use it during practice sessions, just to see how you’re improving. If you're a drummer, having an app on your phone or tablet like BeatMirror just makes sense." - Laura Barnes of MI-PRO (mi-pro.co.uk)
FEATURES:
Good music needs good rhythm. But learning to stay on beat—learning to groove—isn't always easy. Build your inner metronome with BeatMirror and catch yourself when you're speeding up or slowing down. Here’s what BeatMirror has to offer:
- Wide tempo range. Tempo detection between 40 bpm and 208 bpm.
- Fast. Detects tempo quickly and accurately.
- Flexible. Accurate across time signatures (e.g., 4/4, 6/8) and rhythm styles (e.g., swing).
- Real-time, scrollable graph. Displays current tempo and tempo history in real-time.
- Zoom features. Choose tight, loose, or full zoom—or double-tap the graph for easy toggling.
- Easy sharing. Share your tempo graph with a tap.
- Easy-to-read interface. Optimized for various light environments, such as stages and practice spaces.
- Tempo keyboard. A special tempo keyboard (with tap pad) lets you set a target tempo easily and intuitively.
- Visual feedback. If you drift from your target tempo, BeatMirror shows a red (slow down!), blue (speed up!), or green (perfect!) indicator.
- Custom count-in. BeatMirror gives you an optional count-in before you start playing.
- Versatile. Perfect for solo practice, band rehearsals, recorded music, and you can even use it at concerts!
- Tutorial. An in-app tutorial gets you up and running in a flash.
TIPS FOR BEST PERFORMANCE:
- Avoid handling your device during tempo measurement.
- Be mindful of competing noise near the device's microphone (e.g., conversation, typing).
- Unplug any headphones with a built-in microphone.
NOTES ON USAGE:
- "Target Tempo." BeatMirror is aimed at musicians and bands looking to build their internal rhythm and musical skills. With that in mind, you are prompted for a "target tempo" (the tempo you're aiming for) prior to tempo detection. To ensure highly accurate results, the detection range is limited to roughly ±20% of your target tempo. (Tempos outside of this range will not be detected.)
- Recorded music. To detect the tempo of recorded music using BeatMirror, follow these steps:
1) Play a song from your favorite music player app using the device speaker (i.e., unplug your headphones). Or, play the song from a different device altogether.
2) Open BeatMirror and set a rough target tempo by tapping along.
3) The song's precise tempo will then be displayed in real-time.

Nice app with one major pain. I would give this app 5 stars if it would just have a mode like the app liveBPM where it just detects your playing. I try to use this in a band setting but there isn’t time to tap in a target tempo between most songs.
Lame. Doesn’t work with my iPhone. Tap a bpm hit play, it counts on and then nothing. How do I get my money back???
😤DON’T PURCHASE | SCAM 😤. Not only does this “app” not work. It clearly wasn’t designed to work. You enter a “target” and the “reading” swings back and forth randomly +/- 20. Apple should be aware of this guy having stolen 5 bucks from everyone who purchased this. Is nobody at Apple moderating the store anymore?
Inconsistent Performance. For what ever reason SOMETIMES when i use the app, the mic on the phone just decides to not pick up the beat and fails to accurately read the BPM it’s pretty annoying. I have to delete the app and re download it every time.
Just What My Drum Teaching Studio Needed!. I’m a professional drummer/teacher who was using and endorsing the BeatNik Rhythmic Analyzer from Onboard Research since 2008. When the company folded in December of 2017, I was dreading the day both my units would malfunction. It used to be a simple matter of me sending them in for a free repair under their lifetime warranty. Now I needed an alternative. I did some research and stumbled upon the Beat Mirror. It took a little getting used to but is far more simple and intuitive to operate and it doesn’t have the risk of a sensor going bad. The price point is reasonable and having the functionality on both phone and iPad make it super convenient. The developer is very responsive and quick to answer questions and offer solutions. All in all I’m very pleased with Beat Mirror and know my students will be as well!
Does not work with acoustic guitar. This app gets lots of love but I can’t get it work with my Martin D28, which is loud.
Incredible App with SP404MKII ETC!. After years of tapping to determine BPM using hardware and apps, I never understood why it seemed so difficult to find the BPM of a sample or song. My Korg KP3 did a good job, but now that hardware music devices have audio and MIDI over USB-C, this app is a must-have for me. I've never written a review of an app before, but I tried several other BPM apps which still required me to tap for BPM or only showed popular music BPM. This app is perfect for use with new samplers and any app where your loop needs to be perfect. Unless you're only producing dance music that hovers around 120 BPM or whatever and you don’t change the original beat in samples, you need a simple app like this. I use old vintage analog live 'standards' samples or obscure things for sound design, and while it will fluctuate, the app includes an option to use a different algorithm, each of which works slightly differently. It's fun to watch the BPM needle move along and draw out the beat as a fluctuating line on a heart monitor. I just got this the other day, and I was amazed when I opened the app on my iPad Pro M2, plugged in my SP404 Mk2 to a daisy-chained third hub with USB-C, and instantly saw the BPM of everything I was doing while the music was playing via monitors or headphones! I didn’t believe it was working, so I tried different samples, and it matched right away. It may need more features to thrill others, but it’s great as it is. I have a couple of requests at the end. I've been quickly fixing samples that I thought were good by ear, but the app synced them perfectly. I'm on a steep learning curve with two new hardware samplers, every decent iPad app (2000+), and I just got the SP404 and recently a Polyend tracker, plus the new Zoom R4 4-track recorder and the new Minifreak I got last year. I am overwhelmed, but I'm an artist with ADHD who is also obsessed with sound design since I first heard Kraftwerk on reel-to-reel in high school!
Love It!. I am a drummer, and have been using this both with my iPhone, and with my iPad. Recently I connected the iPad to the wall mounted TV in my studio so the other band members can see what used to be only visible to me. After I first installed it on my iPhone I was at a concert, and I noticed the band was playing to a sequencer. I fired it up, tapped in the target tempo, and bam! BeatMirror showed the tempo and did not waver one bit, as should be expected. When the band resumed playing without the sequencer, the displayed tempo varied appropriately. Most gigging bands are pretty tight, so there wasn’t much variance, like +/- 2/3/4 bpm - which was expected. I’m very happy with it!
Gaps in the tracking. I am playing a piece on the piano and I notice when I play the bridge the beat mirror goes gray and only comes back once I exit the bridge the tempo of the bridge never gets tracked
Very helpful tool!. When songwriting, I often have trouble figuring out the tempo I’m looking for. This app helps by recognizing the tempo in real-time while I’m jamming.
Essential Tool!. There are two tools EVERY musician who wants to improve their tempo needs: a metronome and BeatMirror. A metronome trains you to (re)sync with an external reference. BeatMirror shows you what your internal tempo is and how (un)stable it is. The app interprets tempo accuately even when there are complex rhythms. It’s rock solid and works well in a practice room, rehearsal, and on stage! I highly recommend it!!!
Excellent. This is a fantastic app. Focusing on getting the tempo correct from the start and holding it is crucial and this is a great tool for that.
iPad awesome. I only record drums now but retired I have plenty time. With iPad mounted by kit & QSC mixer I can see how much drift I have. It is actually less than I thought. It’s easy, fast & accurate in real time. Wish I had it 40 years ago as a kid! Highly recommended~!!!
Feed back. I love it. I know if I am going to fast or to slow.so it keeps me in time.please let me know if you come up with a new app.thanks
Doesn’t do what it claims. It’s won’t pick up the correct bpm by playing it music. Yes my mic is on.
Great Practice Tool!. Let’s face it, practicing with a metronome is just not enough. This app takes the training wheels off and gives you feedback on your overall pulse.
Simply brilliant. I wanted this app to exist but only discovered today that it does! Exactly what I was looking for, no more and no less. Thanks for building it!
Appears inconsistent. Just downloaded and set target bpm at 40 and played a song I’ve been working on. It recorded my tempo between 40 and 50. Then set it at 70 and played very same section at similar tempo and it recorded between 70 and 80. It appears to be recording near the set target—-there’s no way my tempo was that different
Great for keeping you and the band honest.. I like to use this app during band practice. I set the bpm for the song we’re about to play and keep a casual eye on it to make sure we’re not getting carried away. I have a pretty fat pocket, but that doesn’t mean the other guys don’t want to run off with the tempo. So I can glance over periodically and check that we’re still within 5 or so BPM of where we should be. I can also check the graph after the fact and see where we wobble a bit and where we lock in, etc. Good tool. I haven’t used it in a performance, but probably will.
Crap. The app is a piece of not functional CRAP. I bought it to determine beats per minute of songs but I am expected to indicate “count in” beats, whatever that is. I need documentation that has complete sentences with a noun and a verb
It is not auto-detecting beats. It doesn’t do what a slew of other products do. I have to yap it for it to register the beats. The way it is advertised it makes you think you just play the music and lt tells you the bpm. It does not
Did exactly what it said it would do. I set it next to my computer and used it to monitor a recording of a rehearsal. It gave a real good sense of how well we were keeping time. Will be using this a lot for live rehearsals. Thank you!

Not worth the price. Huge rip off for what you get. No way to learn the BPM of a song or track a songs BPM without first entering a target BPM... which doesnt make sense since you are trying to find out what that songs bpm is. Also it is incredibly hit or miss (it ignored my pad sound even at loud volumes). If this app is just intended for practicing, it sucks at that too. The app itself has no Metronome capabilities (no sound, visual, haptic etc) so I am not sure how the app expects you to keep on a specific tempo. Really regret purchasing it, they just dont allow refunds (i wonder why..)
Garbage. Doesn’t work
Andrew P. Really useful tool for band rehearsal. The room we rent has a projector hook up so we display the app for all to see. Just enter the target bpm for each song and we’re given a real time display of our bpm. Less intrusive than a click track and really easy to use.
Great app. This app saves me so much time playing with metronomes and tapping out beats on keyboards. It works well is very useful.
