Hope this wonderful paper survives and thrives. Great local reporting, solid app

Very useful newspaper!. Just began receiving the Providence Journal again after a long hiatus and am enjoying keeping up to date on local and state news. Really necessary especially during the pandemic.

Good read. Helpful information and current events local news pretty good app

Where’s TODAYS edition !!!!. Not all published articles are found on same day Kinda ridiculous

App is a mess.. As you scroll down, the same articles come up over and over at seemingly random intervals. Not ever clear what is new and what is old; some of the articles are from yesterday.

Easy to read. Nice page layout

Great local resource. Perfect for finding out what’s happening in the world, but truly perfect for staying abreast of local happenings.

Personalized Notifications. Pretty good app overall but the notification preferences don’t work. I opted out of sports notifications and yet I still get 2 notifications a day about high school sports (I really don’t care about high school sports).

Reliable local news. I just got this app. I was using the New York Times but I don’t live in New York and I find most of their articles a bit too high brow for me to be honest. The Projo is very comprehensible and I honestly don’t see why I need to know what’s going on in Botswana or wherever which I’m sure the NYT covers. Projo seems to be mostly local news (judging from my usage of it thus far) which is basically all I care about at this point in my life. So... as they say, “It works for me.”

Update Is Terrible. The newest update has ruined this app. The former version was much more user friendly and had a better look. Very disappointing.

Be aware of the terms of the digital subscription. Keep in mind that if you have a digital subscription, there are no refunds if you cancel. Make sure to cancel before the monthly bill gets posted. Seems like unfair billing practices but it is apparently written in the fine print.

A good app. Easy to navigate, the ProJo has finally gotten digital right.

Terrible changes. Recent changes make this app user unfriendly. It was easy to read pages before. Now I have to go to text version or blow up pages using + or - buttons. When finished I went to pages and when clicking on a page nothing happened. You have made navigation very cumbersome. We hate it.

App does not work. Your app does not work well. So many time I can’t log in with my google credentials. So much creepy click bait ads on you site. I feel bad it makes the journalist look bad to associated with the trashy ads

Why change?. I loved this app before it was “improved”. It was great to be able to read the paper like you were actually paging through the paper version. Why take that option away? I see from other reviews that I’m not the only one.

Very disappointing. The content is not as robust as one would expect from a newspaper and the writing is poor. The application also crashes regularly.

Not that great. It was a pleasant experience to read the paper,,,no longer is the case

Where’s the journal. I wanted the version that replicated the print version. This new update is confusing. I liked seeing the front page news and then selecting the sections. This is a huge disappointment. I may delete it as it is not useful

Terrible. I have to keep deleting the app, reinstall, etc. Then it is locked. Wish they would get their technology straight. I am so close to cancelling my subscription to this newspaper.

Poor interface. I have tried various ProJo apps over the years. All have been poorly made, buggy, and frustrating. The only thing that the current app has done well was to take my money. It is slow, difficult to use on a tablet, and full of pop-up advertisements blocking content. I won’t renew.

Bugs me. That blue flashing ad at the bottom of the screen is very annoying. I pay for Projo and would prefer to not see the ad. Otherwise it seems fine.

Great. Easy to browse and read

Not too good.. Glitchy. Worked fine, now several screens to go thru. Today paper would not appear. Good app only when it’s working.

Love the ProJo. New app is awesome and user friendly!

OK but needs work. Not enough local news. Still disappointed that Ed Achorn wasn’t replaced. Did not like the excuse for not replacing him. We need editorials not commentary as a filler!

Much Better Format. The new online format is much more viewer friendly

Great Local News. Superior reporting and columnists. Did prefer however the previous layout and format. Now hard to tell if an article is current or several/days weeks old.

Won’t let me sign in!. Been a subscriber since 1977 - I get updates on my phone, but if I click through it says I must sign in. If a subscriber, restore purchase. If I click on that, the screen darkens and the twirly circle twirls…and twirls…and twirls. Nothing. This is useless!

New version infinitely more difficult to navigate. I needed to delete and re-install the ProJo app on my iPad. Where navigation in the older e-newspaper version with the blue background was seamless—just like turning a page in the print version, this new incarnation makes the reader jump through hoops just to read the darned news. If your intention is to lose subscribers even more quickly, you’re doing a great job.

Where’s the News. I find the app to combine news with unrelated items. I’d like to see news, sports, opinion etc separated.

Difficulty getting pro jo obituaries. I would like to be able to get to obituaries the same way as the readable newspaper

Crassly focused on advertisers first. Designed to be always shifting content by rotataing ads, this app makes the articles really difficult to find and read because your place is always changing. ProJo, remember that without readers your ads have no value. Redesign the app so content stays in place. If not, I’ll just stop reading and rely on your competitors.

Good app. Enjoying reading the local news and sports in the ProJo app!

App works well. The ProJo app and e-edition app work well. Was happy to subscribe when a discount was available.

Ads Ads Ads ... Wasn’t a bad news app. I pay for the iPad app for the daily newspaper and is well worth it. But as I’m told they don’t offer anything like that for the iPhone. Problem: The Ads are do bad that they take over the article. You spend more time trying to get rid of the ads so you can read the article. I’m deleting this app.. Because of this problem this news App is Worthless. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME.. You should get rid of the company who does you advertising.. that causes this to happen.

Focus on local news and more. While I read several papers the Journal gives a different perspective on the news that you don’t get in other nationally focused papers

Can't Log In. This app has had issues with logging in for quite a while, and the latest update hasn't resolved them. Constantly crashes. When the paper gets taken over by Big Newspaper, you'd think that at least the tech would work. Not so much.

new pro jo app. I want to read the paper set up as a paper NOT a busy collage of information and ads! Having no option like other on-line apps do stinks

This app is terrible. Advertisements make reading content difficult. I get notifications from ProJo. But, when I click on the notification, the http page launches asking me to log in. The app launches too, but it’s not evident. When I switch to the app, the news article I got notified about is not there and there is no search function. So frustrating.

Great app. I really enjoy the ProJo app. It’s one of the best newspaper apps I experience and of course the quality of the journalism is top notch.

Updated App is Well Done. Being a snow bird....I get all of my RI information right here. It is nice to stay connected and get to read all the current news and articles from sunny Southwest Florida

If only there was a way to show zero stars. I have been so frustrated with this app that I could scream (or curse)! It is clunky, not user friendly, my settings mean nothing, it is not seamless, nor is it intuitive. It is obvious the app designers haven’t a clue how users use the app or it wouldn’t be so clunky. A very expensive app to read my local newspaper.

PROJO. Great app easy to use and updates very fast

A great way to access local news. I love having access to The Providence Journal on my iPhone! The app is very user friendly.

Worst ever!. We are literally in a health crisis/pandemic and every article related to it is blocked because I’ve read too many free articles for the month. Seriously? How about you let people read news related to the governor’s guidelines for keeping us safe without eliciting a subscription. And don’t bother reaching out to ask them to relax the settings to allow for open information during this time-they don’t fix it-rather say it must be a glitch. Shameful.

Providence e journal easy read. Have had my issues with projo but gave them one more try. Found the digital issue is my go to with easy navigation and on all my devices. The digital version price was attractive and sealed the deal

App hasn't worked in over a week. I used the app daily for months without too much of an issue. Now it won't scroll at all and I can't select any articles. Hopefully they revamp this app.

Latest version of this app is a disaster. Unfortunately there is no way to select zero stars. I thought the previous version was a little clunky but useable. This latest version that I was required to download is horrible. Zooming and fit to screen of pages is not friendly and inconsistent. Browsing form page to page sometimes skips pages and makes them unreadable. Like the Sunday comics? Good luck in reading all pages. Maybe some who actually reads a paper should be the one who designs and quality assurance of the app that gets published to the readership. The Providence Journal has destroyed the print version and now they are on their way to wrecking the digital also. Gannet should be ashamed in what they have delivered.

Selfish. This should be free and available to the people during this health crisis. The navigation is bad unless you are looking for ads. Whoever designed this online debacle should be fired. It seemed to have articles for about 2 weeks on the crisis, but now I’ve reached my limit and can’t catch up with the RI news.

So much missed potential... This app is disappointing. I believe in supporting local journalism, and I think having a clean, functional app is important. I’ve lived in RI my whole life and I’d hate to see the Projo go out of printing. As someone who would pay for a good app, here are some suggestions: 1. The navigation is confusing and the sidebar menu is a little overwhelming. It would be cool to have some sort of quick navigation tools or just an overall more fluid and intuitive interface. 2. Should have a login capability. There aren’t (from what I can find) any options for logging in, linking a subscription, or even any personalization options. 3. Not sure if I’m missing this one too, but I didn’t see any options for paying to turn off ads. I understand this is a hard time so maybe app development isn’t in the budget. But just wanted to give some feedback because I think it could be a great app for all my local news.

Adsterra is the most preferred ad network for those looking for an alternative to AdSense. Adsterra is the ideal choice for new sites with low daily traffic. In order to advertise on the site in Adsterra, like other ad networks, a certain traffic limit, domain age, etc. is required. There are no strict rules. Sign up!

Good Insight. Considering it is a free app, the content provided is quite expansive. Would a digital subscription be better, no doubt. Yet to get a quick look at Rhode Island's many foibles, it is very worthwhile.

H. Yummy

Not a bad way to get local news. I use this app to get bulletins, not to read the paper. For that usage, it's very good

sign in. why is it always such a hassle to sign in?

California. Jeff Malone

A pleasure to use...but. I can't find the comics. If they're hidden in there, I wish someone would tell me where they are. Otherwise, the app is clean and easy to navigate.

Providence Journal. Full of spam and other onconveniences.

4 stars for the reporters.... ... not the management. Online subscriptions are less than a small Dunkin each day. Pay if you can. If we only read the free version, the layoffs will continue.

Timely Info. ProJo on my phone is terrific! It keeps me in the loop all day long!

Works well / great notifications. App works well. Easy to browse stories. Notifications highlights important/useful local Providence news.

Great App. This app has really evolved into a great reading experience. I find it very easy and convenient to use. An excellent way to keep up with the local RI news.

Great app. Love this PRO-JO app and it's free! Keeps you up to date on breaking news and you can peruse the different sections of the paper.

FC. Alerts are good. Seem to be as prompt as other outlets. I can’t stand the Legacy obituary format. Old was much better and easier to navigate. This newer version has glitches that send you to web pages you are not asking for. I know this is about the app but I must throw my 2 cents in about one other quirk. Some of the writers on staff cannot write to save their life. Running sentences, misspelled words and bad grammar. Stories that bring you in a circling maze, leaving you scratching your head to figure it out. If that were the case I would have turned to the puzzle page.

Limit for the month. According to the ProJo I have reached my limit for the month. No, correction: I have reached my limit with this app.

Keep up the great work of information. Use this as my source for daily news. Great job. This Presidency Magazine is top notch. Info I never knew.

Fair app - could be better. I find it difficult to find today's news - also find I need to check each category and find the same story in multiple categories. Lastly, I don't care for the new obituary format - I would like to see yesterday's only!

Good way to access ProJo. Interface is much improved. Search function could be a bit easier to use.

Review of Prov. Journal app. I enjoy the app. I check it a couple of times daily for news, weather etc. I do not, however, like the new format for obituaries. I wish they would go back to the old format.

App, what App. App is very limited in the newspaper format options and constantly crashes.

App is useful, content needs some work. I like the app and the interface is reasonable. Unfortunately I cannot give the app more stars because the quality of writing has suffered in the last two decades.

Ads wont let it open. Please fix the app! The ads are trying to load but never do so the app never opens anymore.

Great way to keep up with local news. Have been using the ProJo app on my phone and tablet; it is well organized and easy to use.

I really like liike. (Liike). Gives just about all information. Now time ..

Love the Projo. Not always the most seamless navigation but I grew up with the Projo--and am a huge advocate of keeping our dailies alive, so love being able to access. Perfect world: I'd read the actual paper, held in my hands, every day.

Too Much Sports. There are too many sports related stories in the News section. Sports should be in the Sports section. I like that news is frequently updated and it is well written. More local news would be preferable. The weather forecast is not very adequate.

Annoying popups. Keeps displaying annoying popups to subscribe even though I am a subscriber and logged in

Pro-Jo. Excellent app. I love having the newspaper at my fingertips.

Dr John C. An essential tool to continue a free and open society.

Keeps me in touch. The ProJo is my tool for keeping in touch with local news for RI.

Like it. The Journal has done well by producing this app. If it starts to charge fees for access I hope they are reasonable.

Reader2. Stories are missing. The full newspaper is not here

Awful. It’s an App. All of a sudden it says I have to pay to read articles. Advertisers beware. They are chasing away app users. Deleted.

Great app. Easy to navigate, great layout!

Ridiculously Anti-Republican. Trump could walk on water and the ProJo would report that he couldn't swim, and all Republicans are rich baby and granny killers according to this totally one-sided disappointment of a paper. I only read it for the local news. Otherwise it's nothing but a desperate for survival left-wing fear mongering propaganda machine that's turning many fellow Rhode Islanders into a bunch of greedy scared idiots.

Murray two. It is bad. Where is my paper format?

Terrible. This is one of the worst newspaper apps I’ve had the misfortune of using. Not surprising since the once-excellent Providence Journal is now just a rotting shell of its former self.

Doesn’t recognize subscription. Occasionally the app doesn’t accept my sign in info.

Born & Bred in RI now live in WI. Still love the app keeps me utd on everything happening. My family lives in RI and I go back every summer to visit. In the meantime this app is wonderful.

Great news. Like the app

Excellent. Clean and simple UI. Easy to navigate. It's become an every-day go-to app. Puts the daily ridiculous stories of our little state at my fingertips whenever I need them.

Happy. The ve g he hugged

Watched this once ok newspaper decline. More ads than news. Sad to see superficial stories with no depth.

Primitive. The app works fairly well and slowly, but the online version of the Projo is impossible to use unless you buy a lame subscription. Have the Projo people ever read the New York Times, the Washington Post, or any of the other nations leading papers? What is this, 1996?

Incomplete. This is a fairly clean looking and easy to use app. However, it doesn't include all the news from the print ProJo, and THERE'S NO INFORMATION ON HOW TO SUBSCRIBE if you're interested in getting a more comprehensive online or print subscription!

NEW JOURNAL APP. I am from Providence but have been living in SW Central Florida for 18 Years, and I am ON The JOURNAL APP a few times a Day, and let Me TELL You, I LOVE the NEW APP, it is SO MUCH BETTER, than PREVIOUS versions.

Fantastic. Happy to have the local newspaper at my fingertips 👍🏽👍🏽

Very useful for local RI news and breaking news. The app is a big improvement with latest update. Notifications is very useful for getting breaking news on local topics of interest. I wish it included the "this day in history events" provided on print edition inside front page (page 2). That daily piece is so educational and interesting.

Just as good as the paper version. Not many people read a paper anymore. This app is the modern paper. Great news coverage.

Good option for accessing PROJOREADER. This app is easy to use. Provides great access to Providence Journal news. It loads and updates without issues. At this point, I wish it had a good search function.

Not at all. I preferred the old version with the newspaper layout. I never read the entire paper this way. Change it back,
